I just binged all of M!ik, and i just have to say how much I love how diverse the gender expression is among its characters!!

Like the obvious one is Opera, who’s canonically Non-Binary and uses they/them pronouns (at least in the English translation, since Japanese doesn’t really use gendered pronouns the same way), and who presents with a mix of feminine and masculine attributes, without it ever being seen as something strange by the other characters. Like, everyone just accepts that Opera is neither a man or woman. They’re just Opera.

But even outside of everyone’s favorite cat-demon, theres so many other gender nonconforming characters, including the main character!! Like I know that him dressing up in frilly dresses is played for a joke at one point, but for the most part, it’s not something he’s ashamed of. He’s a bit embarrassed to go on national tv dressed as an idol, but he also has a lot of fun doing it, even leaning more into it during the concert portion of the Evidol Games.

I also have a special place in my heart for the gnc men in the series, because I feel like that’s not something you really see all that often, except for with the generic pretty boy trope. But in M!ik we have Balam, who is undeniably a very masculine figure, but he has a lot of equally undeniably feminine traits. He’s very gentle and physically affectionate, and has a great love for small creatures and likes to make cute picture books. And on the Physical side of things, he has long hair that he wears down a lot that he carefully takes care to maintain (at least after he grows it out again).

And there’s a lot more than that, even just in the background characters that appear, but these three are the ones that came to mind first.

Hey so I don’t know you, and you don’t know me, but I saw that you were getting death threats (is that the right word?) for shipping Alastor and Lucifer, and I just wanted to say that you absolutely do not deserve that, especially over something so small.

I’m aroace, and, though I’m not a hazbin hotel fan, I understand that Alastor is too? Yeah, it sucks when people ignore or erase aspec characters identities, but we need to understand that it is fiction. This isn’t a real person who is being forced into relationships against their Will, or who knows that someone is shipping them with another.

Yeah I personally as an aroace person don’t like ships with Alastor in them- because I’m aroace. But I’m not about to start telling someone to kill themself over it.

And also like there are aroace people who do get in relationships, who do sometimes feel attraction, who do fall in love. And maybe Alastor isn’t one of those idk. Maybe he is. He can still be aroace while people ship he with people

In my opinion, people shipping Alastor is actually a chance for us to gain more rep! It can help educate people on what being aroace really is, the fact that it is a spectrum. We can still fall in love and have sexual desires, its just different! But some aroaces don't desire either of those things, at all! People shipping Alastor had lead me to better understand what aroace people are, and helped me come to the realization that I am one as well!

Look if no one else is gonna say it then I’ll say it:

I didn’t really like Gary and Marshall’s relationship portrayal.

Like, don’t get me wrong, I personally love Gary and Marshall and have nothin violently against them; I loved their meeting in ‘Winter King’, it was a cute and lovely side plot-! same goes with ‘The Star’- even if it was a little rushed it was generally cute.

But as in ‘Casper & Nova’, I started to have the same issue with them that I have with bubbline- where everything is abandoned in favour of one another.

It’s just kinda.. lame? Especially when Gary says like “We just met” (signifying NO time skip) and still being SO sure him and Marshall were made for one another… it’s very middle school romance cringe vibes. And when you look into it more, the more issues kinda arise from the pair.

Like… for example here,, Marshall and Ellis are clearly besties; they’ve been shown hanging out on multiple occasions, and are presumably pretty close. But since Marshall got with Gary, he has NO further interactions with Ellis? There was even a brief moment in ‘Cheers’ where the viewing party thought Ellis was just killed, and Marshall had no further emotion about it?? Like??? Dude that’s ur homeboy??? Also, with this being the second time Ellis has burst from a clothes pile in Fionna’s apartment, wouldn’t it occur to Marshall to maybe check for him?? This is clearly a reoccurring issue???

But abandoning social aspects in favour of your relationship isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the world.. but then there’s Gary.

It’s a sweet sentiment that in ‘The Star’ Gary sacrificed something near and dear to him just for Marshall’s well being, but let’s think about this for more than a second.

He had JUST met this guy, and this was his life’s DREAM he threw away. At the drop of a hat no less! His dream, which he has been planning out and perusing for god knows how long. This gives me generally the same vibes as Simon and Betty’s case, where something really special gets thrown away in order to peruse the relationship. It’s kinda icky.

I dunno, maybe I’m just a sick Marshall & Ellis fan who’s starving of interaction and am being bitter ab it, but I really didn’t like how Heart-Stopper, middle school romance cringe those two were built up to be,,, like those are two grown ass men and Marshall’s like “hold on, let me defeat this cosmic entity with a love song!” DUDE PLEASE I HATE U
