[Start ID. A dark, warm-toned drawing of Tundra, a robot with bladed legs and mechanical hands both lightened by frost, and a face like that of a fencing mask. She wears a blue jacket with a fluffy white ruff and pockets on the shoulders and chest, a long green skirt with tassels and pale wavy lines at the border, and a brown belt with a pouch at the side. She's shown from the right, leaning back on a stack of pillows and a wooden wall as she looks out to the left, disregarding the open book in her hand, her legs bent in front of her. Under her is a yellow and red rug which pads gritty flooring, over her are series of low, round string lights, providing soft lighting in a room that's partially open to the night sky.]
it's a friend's birthday today yet again... in honor of the occasion here's a Tundra for @automatonknight :]

<3 lumine
maybe i'm the villain
Alec isn’t sure what he expected from Bane, but a thick strip of leather in deep maroon with what looks like a black, gleaming bell on the middle isn’t it.
There is a pocket of near silence around them — the magic Bane used muffling the sounds to a swell of noise surrounding their quiet — and Alec can hear the clear chime as it’s lifted.
“Lean forward, kitten.” Bane says and Alec obeys automatically. It isn’t until the leather is already pressing around his neck that he realizes how instinctive it was to listen to Bane and he flushes, unable to help his longing and frustration.
The bell chimes again as the leather seals and Alec swallows against the snug press of butter-smooth leather against his jugular. The bell seems like a siren call to Bane, who idly plays with it a few times, as if to coax a tune from the irregular but sweet sound
Alec isn’t sure why Bane seems so smugly pleased about the bell, but it’s hardly anything he minds compared to what Bane could be demanding of him. It’s comfortable, in a strange way that he tries not to think about, and the noise of the bell isn’t the garish ding of a mundane one but one that sings with Bane’s pure magic.
Minutes drip by, like sap bleeding from a wounded tree.
Bane is strange with his demands.
The things he dresses Alec in are sets of bangles made with platinum and demon pearls and mismatching but accompanying rings with tigers eye and peridot and fire opals that dance blue with Bane's own magic. An hour passes and Alec aches without being hungry and is thirty for something none of the drinks Bane has offered him can quench.
He’s naked and vulnerable and the only constant and safety he’s known since the clave gave him this mission is Bane’s lap and his hands.
“I’m going to be a bit mean, this next one.” Bane tells him teasingly when another ten minutes have past and Alec doesn’t care, even when Bane shows him how and why he’s supposed to be mean and he still doesn’t get it.
His confusion must show on his face because pure, awed avarice crosses Bane’s and then Alec can only gasp and cling to Bane and squeeze desperately with his thighs as he tries to fight and relax at the same time.
— Alexander is pure temptation incarnate and Magnus almost hates that he has to wait to truly taste him until the first death.
Almost.
After all, Magnus is quite a fan of foreplay and Alexander is quite a delight to play with.
Knees dig tightly into his hips and thighs clench against his own as Alexander adjusts and tries to breathe above him. He’s so clearly new to pleasure that Magnus can’t help but keep up a steady murmur of praise as he pets trembling sides and then croons and rumbles as he rubs Alexander’s ears.
He’s whining, shifting in Magnus’ lap as he tries to make himself comfortable but only ends up overwhelming himself with new sensations that he doesn’t know how to control.
Not that Magnus is going to let him learn to.
“Hush kitten, let me help.” Magnus soothes and he ignores how Alexander shifts in discomfort and whines, manhandling him into one position and keeping him there with a possessive hand on his thigh. “There we are, just breathe darling, you’ll adjust in a few minutes.”
Alexander shakes his head, as if the very thought of surviving for even a few more seconds is too much and Magnus can’t help but laugh. He tugs teasingly on Alexander’s tail and watches as his kitten automatically tenses up and then immediately shivers and fights to relax only to tense again.
“There, waiting for a few minutes doesn’t seem so bad now, does it.” Magnus doesn’t expect and answer and he won’t get one.
Alexander is practically mewling against Magnus’ neck and his nails have sharpened to pinpricks against Magnus’ skin from where he’s clutching the edges of Magnus’ ruined shirt.
The bell around his neck chimes with each deep, heaving breath that his kitten struggles to take and it sings a pretty accompaniment to Alexander’s whines as Magnus chuckles and pets his ears.

🔮Carnelian Trinkets🗝️
Vex!Scar x Reader
thank you to my 🪶feather anon for requesting this I'm sorry I accidentally deleted you're request but from what a remember you said you wanted a vex!Scar x reader where scar likes to give reader trinkets and little gifts because of his vex side! please enjoy and feel free to leave tips (p.s im not so proud of this story but I hope at least you guy like it<3)
𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬&𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬🌱🧄🌿
Scar had decided to go on a little adventure as he liked to call it but in Y/ns case it meant being left alone for a few days, it not like Y/n couldn't be by their self or that they constantly needed to be with Scar but tonight Y/n will be all alone with no date for the party.
A small gathering happens every so often in Hermitcraft where all the hermits get together and have a nice evening with drinks and treats for all, even though there's so many members as well as a few guests coming from their empires it feels right to give everyone a little thank you gift. pulling out tiny little boxes Y/n walks out of their house and into the mines, after hours and hours of mining and polishing a scatter of crystals lay on a table, from ruby to agate there is a set of handpicked personalized crystals for every guest.
Gold or silver, crown, necklace, bracelet, or ring, smooth or pointy. hundreds of decisions lay in front of Y/n but at the end of the day around 40 sets of jewelry are set in boxes to be given to the person there for.
Amber ear cuffs for Impulse, aquamarine and pink coral tiara for Queen Lizzie of the Ocean empire, golden peridot anklets for the one and only fae girl Gem, and a jasper pendent like amulet for the prince of the lost empire Joey.
The only thing that catches Y/ns eye is a carnelian ring with a engraving inside saying " I Love You, Dear " a little bit of disappointment hits them as they remember Scars absents but all they do is close the box and throw it in the basket.
________
The stars shine brightly around Scar as he walks down the paths of the Ender capital, people pass scar left and right from Endermen hybrids to Nether hybrids hes surrounded, some people stare at him and his vex features uncomfortably as others pass and don't bat an eye.
Markets and stalls are set up everywhere going from one to another nothings right, some potions and magical seeds end up in scars inventory but there's something hes looking for that he just cant figure out what it is until a small sparky shine catches his eye.
A flow of magic wisps through the air pulling scar in all he wanted was something personal to give Y/n so all he can do is hope this light can lead him to the perfect thing, slowly he steps over to the shine and a small chest of colorful crystals, rare buttons, and mini empty bottles sits Infront of him his eyes light up and his wings flutter at the big and small trinkets to give his partner.
walking back to the portal to the over world, end flowers, and little pieces of shiny metal litter the ground, more and more bobbles clutter into scar bag and cut his hand and he picks up sharp pieces. reaching into a different pocket for a bandage Scar communicator tumbles out of his bag a bright yellow message takes up the whole screen leaving his face shocked.
"GATHERING AT NINE HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!"
---
Y/n stands there looking in the mirror at their fancy attire, their shoes click as they walk across their house grabbing the big basket full of little gift boxes, a load knock echos through their house slowly but surely Y/n walks the open the door but when they get their someone is already their waiting for them.
"SCAR!"
Y/n runs up the him, he pulls them into a soft hug slowly lowering to the ground.
"oh my god.. I am so sorry, I totally forgot about the party tonight I never meant to do that Y/n, I missed you so so much"
a small kiss opens Scars eyes Y/n just sits there with a goofy smile on their face as they tug on his arm standing up, Y/n yanks Scar to the table they rummage through the big weaved basket and pull out one box slowly opening it they hide it in there hands and slowly slide it on to scars ring finger, he looks at it for a few moments before Y/n asks him a question.
"Do you like it!" they say swinging side to side in excitement, Scar looks up at them and lifts them up with a huge smile on his face, giddy as heck he pulls Y/n in to a seat.
"I LOVE IT!! LOOK LOOK I HAVE STUFF FOR YOU AS WELL, I HOPE YOU LIKE IT" Scar pulls out the big box of little knobs and treats, if he was a dog his big golden retriever tail would be shaking faster then lightning and all Y/n could do is match his energy the trinkets doesn’t matter anymore as much as Y/n loved their partners little gift they were just exited to be with him.
Walking to the party scar runs off like a little child to grab sparkly nicknacks and give them back to Y/n and they just swing their basket excitedly like little red riding hood.
The vex boy rests at his lovers side as they enter the party with everyone. The night was long but the energy never died gifts were given, hugs were shared and the night ended of with cuddles in their warm comfy bed.

blood moon – part three
read on ao3 | read part one | gemcyt/life series, 3.2k words
for this update, i scrapped an old scene that provided context but was otherwise very boring. if you're curious, there's a longer explanation available in my ao3 notes.
Bdubs woke up in the late morning to the sound of several people arguing in the next room. He recognized Grian and Cleo’s voices, so he got up to see what all the fuss was, only to run right into Pearl in the hallway.
“Oh, I’m sorry!” Pearl said in a low voice. “I was just…”
“Snooping around?” Bdubs attempted to deliver this line with an intimidating glare, but he only managed a yawn.
“What? No, of course not! I just wanted—I wanted to talk to you, actually.”
“Why’s that?”
“Grian said you were an expert on building. I had a few questions for you.”
“Really?” He brightened. “What else did he tell you about me?”
“He said if I had any questions about making a base, I should go to you first.”
“Well, he’s absolutely right. I know everything there is to know about building. I built this base we’re standing in now, you know. It’s called a crastle.”
“It’s lovely,” Pearl said. “Probably my favorite base! Don’t tell Grian, though.”
“Oh, you flatterer.” Bdubs waved her off modestly. “I do my best. So what were your questions?”
“Do you know what a chimney is?”
…A chimney. Right. Yes, he definitely knew what that was. “It’s the top part of a fireplace,” Bdubs said with perfect confidence.
“And what’s a fireplace?”
“Why, it’s the place you put fire, of course!”
Pearl looked baffled. “Why would you need a place to put fire?”
This stumped him for a few moments. Why would anyone have a place for fire in their home? “It’s a very complicated question,” Bdubs said. “I could explain it, but it would take all day, and I’m sure you’d find it very boring.”
“Right, of course.” A small smile appeared on Pearl’s face. “I wouldn’t want to take up all of your valuable time.”
“Is there anything else you want to know?”
“I guess I want to know why you’ve all started building bases for yourselves in the first place,” Pearl said. “They’re very lovely, but I don’t understand what they’re for, exactly.”
“Oh, of course! You’re a pearl, so you’ve probably never had a space just for yourself, right?”
Pearl blinked. “I guess not.”
“When me, Cleo, Tango, and Impulse first got here, we found lots of old ruins,” Bdubs explained. “That’s where we got all our books. Let me see, where is it…” He got up and looked through the nearby bookshelf. “Here it is! Man-Made Wonders of The World.”
He presented the book to Pearl with a giddy smile. Pearl took it, flipping through the first few pages with delicate hands. “What’s a man?”
“It’s short for human,” Bdubs said. He was very proud of having figured that one out on his own. “They’re a type of life-form that used to live here on this planet a long time ago. Cleo thinks they’re extinct, because otherwise we would have found one by now.”
“And they built all these? Without gem technology?” Pearl’s eyes widened. “Where are these structures? Have you seen them all?”
“Well, that’s the problem,” Bdubs sighed. “This planet’s really big, and none of us have a working ship anymore. If we had one, we might be able to explore, but it would be a long journey on foot, and Cleo doesn’t believe me when I tell her I can make sure we don’t get lost.”
“That’s a shame,” Pearl said, so quietly that Bdubs almost missed it.
“Wait a minute!” he said. “You must have had a ship to get here, right? Where is it?”
Pearl looked very much as if an agate had just walked in and caught her goofing off. “Well, you see—”
“Bdubs!” Cleo called from the other room. “What are you shouting about?”
“Coming!” Bdubs answered. “Don’t go anywhere,” he told Pearl, before poking his head into the other room.
He was greeted with the sight of two unfamiliar gems, a rose quartz and a peridot, the latter of whom seemed to be attempting to hide behind Grian. (It wasn’t working.) “These are Lizzie and Mumbo,” Cleo told Bdubs. “They came here with Pearl, apparently. Pearl was just here a second ago, but…”
“Oh, she was talking to me!” Bdubs said. “We were having a wonderful little conversation about bases.” He glanced back into the hallway, but Pearl had already disappeared. “Huh. She must have wandered off.”
“Seems to be a habit of hers.” Cleo didn’t look too happy. “You entertain our guests for a minute, and I’ll go make sure she’s not rifling around in our storage.”
“Sure thing!” Bdubs’ arms instinctively went to perform the diamond salute, but he knew Cleo hated when he did that, so he disguised the gesture by clapping his hands together. “So how did you guys all get here? Where’s your ship?”
“They claim there’s no ship,” Cleo said on their way out of the room. Her tone of voice clearly indicated that she didn’t believe them.
“It crashed,” Lizzie told him very solemnly. “Horribly. Went up in flames and everything. Big disaster.”
“Funny coincidence,” Bdubs said, “that’s exactly what happened to ours.”
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Pearl through the window, in the process of sneaking away. She met Bdubs’ gaze for a split second, and gave him a wink before vanishing from view.
Scott was out in the garden when Jimmy heard a visitor knocking at their door. Usually he waited for Scott to tell him what to expect, but it had been a while since they’d had any surprises, and besides, Scott rarely gave him a straight answer when it came to the future. So instead of waiting for him, Jimmy got up and opened the door by himself.
“Hi! You’re Jimmy, right?” Pearl stuck out her arm, and he took it, bewildered. “I just learned about handshakes from Bdubs. Did I do it right?”
“Probably,” Jimmy said with a shrug. “I wouldn’t know. What’s up?”
“You fuse a lot, right? I wanna talk about fusion.”
She must have seen Flower Agate at the party last night. “Yeah, sure. Come on in.” Jimmy stepped aside to allow Pearl to enter. She took a few steps, only to be stopped by the sudden appearance of a wall of ice between them.
“No,” Scott said evenly from where he stood at the back door, his arm outstretched. “Not happening.”
“Scott, what’s going on?” Jimmy backed away from Pearl, who looked just as confused as he felt. “Is something wrong?”
Scott ignored him. “I can’t tell what you’re planning,” he said to Pearl, “but it won’t work. You’re going to get yourself and a lot of other gems hurt.”
“What are you talking about?” Pearl asked. The ice only came up to her waist, but she didn’t try to step over it. “I don’t want to hurt anyone.” Her voice trembled on the words.
“Maybe not, but you will.”
“Is this about a future vision you saw?” Pearl said. “Just tell me what it was, that way I can—”
“I’m not taking that risk,” Scott said. “Just stay away from me and Jimmy.”
“Hey, wait a minute!” Jimmy interrupted. “Can’t we talk about this? I’d rather have nobody get hurt, if that’s an option.”
“You and I can talk about this,” Scott told him. “But you—” he turned his attention back to Pearl, “—need to leave.”
Before Pearl could respond, Scott pushed the ice wall further forward, forcing her out the door. It slammed shut, and he hurried over to lock it.
“What has gotten into you?” Jimmy asked him. “Wouldn’t it have been a better idea to talk it out with her? What harm can one pearl do?”
“You really have to ask that question? You’ve met Joel.”
He couldn’t argue with that—Joel had caused a lot of trouble when he’d first arrived. But for the brief time they’d spoken, Pearl had been perfectly pleasant. “Can you at least tell me what’s going to happen?”
“I can’t,” Scott said.
Jimmy rolled his eyes. “Yes, you can.”
“No, I can’t. There are too many possibilities right now. We’ll have to wait it out and see how things end up.”
Jimmy loved Scott, he really did, but sometimes he made Jimmy want to tear his hair out. “Then what’s the use of future vision if we still don’t know what to do?”
Scott didn’t answer him. Jimmy looked down to see a small ring of ice encircling the hem of his skirt.
“Sorry, sorry,” he said hastily, reaching to pry Scott free of the ice. He set him down on the couch. “Forget I said that. How about tonight? Can you see what happens tonight?”
“We go to the party,” Scott said slowly. “We fuse again. It’s—I think there’s a new fusion? It’s hard to see as Flower Agate.”
“So that’s good, right?” Jimmy asked. “We’re safe.”
“I think so.”
“We’re safe,” Jimmy repeated, with more confidence this time. “We’ll be fine.”
He hoped Scott believed him. He wasn’t sure he believed himself.
Mumbo was at a party with a bunch of rebel gems, and people were fusing.
At least, that’s what he thought they were doing. Pearl had warned him this would happen, but it was one thing to hear about it and quite another to see it for himself. Right now, the sapphire and the lapis lazuli were involved in a dance that made Mumbo want to politely avert his eyes—yet at the same time, he couldn’t look away.
“This is…a lot,” he said.
“Yeah,” Pearl agreed. “Are you freaking out? It’s okay if you’re freaking out. We can go back to the ship.”
“No, it’s alright!” Mumbo couldn’t imagine going back to the ship and letting this happen without him. “We can stay.”
The sapphire and lapis finally fused, and he got to watch in real time as their forms merged into one. It was slow and confusing and oddly beautiful. He let out a gasp when the ball of light finally solidified into a single figure, which stood taller than most of the other nearby gems.
“I’m trying to be supportive of Gri,” Pearl said. “I know he likes this. When he fused yesterday, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him look so…”
“Happy?” Mumbo guessed, searching for Grian in the crowd. He found him talking to a blue gem, with Scar somewhere off in the distance. Maybe Grian didn’t always fuse with Scar, then. Maybe he liked to branch out. “He seems really at home here.”
He’d officially reunited with Grian that morning, which had been wonderful, but…strange. Tense. Mumbo had been expecting everything to promptly return to normal once they found Gri, but it was becoming more and more obvious that that would not be the case. Even worse, Pearl seemed to be in denial about it, and Mumbo had been taking cues from her for long enough that he had no idea what to do.
His attention was pulled to the nephrite and green jasper he’d met earlier, who were—well, if the previous fusion dance had made Mumbo want to look away, this one made him want to bury his head in the ground. Still, he watched. He’d never seen anything even remotely like it. He couldn’t imagine himself ever making moves like that, but perhaps he could manage a twirl or two. Would he have to take off his limb enhancers?
“I don’t know what else to do,” Pearl said.  “Do you think if I fused with him, it would convince him to choose us instead of them?”
“Huh?” The second fusion dance had reached its culmination, but a third and a fourth had started up. Mumbo managed to tear his eyes away for a moment to look at Pearl. She had taken on an odd in-between color, which corresponded with the sun’s current position most of the way below the horizon. “Beg your pardon, did you say you were thinking of fusing with Grian?”
“I might as well try.” Pearl got to her feet. “I’ll just go ask him. No big deal, right?”
Mumbo was fairly certain that Pearl and Grian fusing would be a recipe for disaster, but he doubted Pearl would listen to him. “He’s been talking to that blue gem for quite a while now. You might be interrupting something.”
“I don’t care.” Pearl was fully red now. “We’re losing him. He’s in love with this planet. If we don’t offer him something better, he’s going to realize he prefers it to us.”
“Surely there’s a better way than—”
Pearl had already begun walking away before he could finish. Mumbo didn’t follow her. He’d seen enough of Pearl in her red state to know there wasn’t anything he could do except watch the disaster unfold in front of him.
“Boys,” a very sarcastic voice said behind him.
Mumbo looked up to see Rose Quartz—no, Lizzie—taking a seat in the grass beside him. “What’s a boy?” he asked.
“Not sure!” Lizzie said. “I heard Cleo say it earlier, just like that. I think it’s an insult.”
“Boys,” Mumbo repeated, trying to mimic her derision. He watched Pearl storm up to Grian and grab his arm, pulling him away from the blue quartz. “I really don’t understand pearls.”
“Me neither,” Lizzie said, with a little huff of exasperation. “Want a flower? I’ve been picking off the petals for fun.” She passed Mumbo a small white blossom with long petals, the stem severed halfway down.
Mumbo methodically plucked every third petal as he watched Pearl and Grian’s conversation from afar. He didn’t dare approach them, but he couldn’t help but wonder what they were saying.
“What are you even saying?” Grian said, throwing up his hands. “Have you gone mad?”
“Am I not good enough to fuse with?” Pearl asked. “You’ll fuse with spinels and quartzes but not me?”
“Pearl, I’m not—” Grian cast a glance at BigB, who was trying to mind his own business. It was proving to be a very difficult task. “I haven’t even fused with any quartzes yet, I’ll have you know. And besides, it’s not about what type of gem you are.”
“So why not? Spit it out.”
“I don’t think this is a good time.” Grian looked wary, but his mind was clearly made up. “Not while you’re still red.”
“That’s it, then?” Pearl threw up her hands. “You won’t fuse with me because I’m off-color?”
BigB winced at that one. “Woah, okay, I don’t think that’s—”
“Don’t you start,” Pearl snapped. “I’m talking to Grian right now.”
“Actually, I was talking to him first,” Grian said, before BigB could figure out a polite way to exit the conversation. “I know you’re still adjusting to living here, Pearl, but BigB didn’t do anything wrong.”
Pearl gave him a look of pure fury, then turned the same gaze on BigB, who immediately put up his hands in surrender. “Fine,” she said. “I get it. You’d rather hang out with your new friends.”
“Pearl, I don’t—”
“Whatever, Gri,” she said coldly, and turned on her heel, walking away into the dark.
Grian sighed. “I’m sorry you had to see that,” he told BigB.
“Did you know her from somewhere?” BigB asked him. “That really didn’t seem like a conversation between two gems that met yesterday.”
“I guess there’s no point in keeping it a secret if she wants to have loud arguments in front of people,” Grian said. “Yeah, I know her. At least, I thought I did.”
“That bad, huh?”
Grian shrugged. “Something’s going on with her, but I have no idea what it is.”
“You think it has anything to do with the whole color-changing thing?”
“I don’t know. I’ve never seen her do that before.” Grian stared off into the woods where Pearl had just disappeared. “I’ve never seen any gem do that before.”
“Me neither,” BigB said. “I bet if anyone knows, it’s Ren. He’s seen a lot of weird stuff.”
“You think he’d know something?” Grian looked even more worried at the prospect. “I’m not sure if I should bother him with this.”
“I can ask him,” BigB volunteered. “I don’t mind.”
He looked around at the rest of the party, finding Ren lounging in the grass by himself. He was surprised Ren and Martyn hadn’t formed Red Diamond yet, considering all the other fusions that were going on, but he wasn’t about to question it. “Hey, Ren! Can I ask you something?”
“What’s up, dude?” Ren waved him over. “Is something wrong?”
“Not with me,” BigB said. “I just wanted to ask, have you ever seen a gem change color?”
“Hmm.” Ren took a moment to think. “I can’t say I have. Not permanently, at least.”
“What about temporarily?”
“Well, that’s a different story. I’ve seen it happen a few times.”
“You have? Really?”
“Sure, have, m’dude. It’s pretty funky.” Ren sat up straight, immediately towering over BigB. “Happens sometimes on planets with different types of suns. Most gems look about the same, but sometimes a gem will go a bit—well, I don’t want to say off-color, but—”
“So it’s just a trick of the light?” BigB asked.
“Sometimes,” Ren said. “Sometimes nothing else happens, but—haven’t seen it myself, mind you, but I’ve heard certain gems will start to go a little off the rails, if you know what I mean.”
BigB laughed. “Like we all did when we got here?”
“Hey! Not all of us!”
“You’re right,” BigB said. “It was mostly you and Martyn.”
Ren sighed. “I suppose you’re not wrong. Why were you asking about color-changing gems, anyway?”
“You’ve met the new gems, haven’t you?”
“Seen ‘em, yes. Not really had a chat with any of them yet. I was planning on introducing myself, but I was worried I might intimidate them with my size.”
“You could always shrink down,” BigB suggested. “But yeah, Grian and I just talked to Pearl, and she was kind of…the wrong color? Last I saw her she was close to the same color as Grian, but this time she was red. Is that normal?”
“She was red, you say?” Ren looked alarmed. “Are you sure?”
“Pretty sure. Saw it with my own eyes. Grian said it happened last night, too.”
“That’s…not good,” Ren said. “Where is she now?”
“She got upset and ran off.” BigB pointed in the direction he’d seen Pearl disappear. Ren’s frown only deepened.
“We should probably go make sure she’s okay.” He got to his feet, then looked down at BigB and hesitated. “Maybe I’ll take your advice on that shrinking thing. Wouldn’t want to scare her.”
BigB watched as Ren shrank down to match his height. Amusingly, Ren’s gem stayed the same size, making it look huge on his chest. It was odd to be able to look Ren in the eye, but BigB found he quite liked it.
“Alright, you lead the way,” Ren told him.
“Just you and me?” BigB asked. “We’re not getting anyone else?”
“We don’t need a whole group for one pearl,” Ren said. “She’s not hostile, is she?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Then I’m sure we’ll be fine!” Ren flashed him a grin. “What’s the worst that could happen?”

I demand huntlow fluff IMMEDIATELY after that angst post!!!! aghhhh it was so good but illegal to make them so saaaad whyyyyyy
This is exact opposite of angst, I promise. This might be too fluffy, tbh. It's honestly a little embarrassing.
---
Willow was simply minding her own business, tending to her flower beds on her balcony when out of nowhere, she turned and found Hunter crash landing beside her. Before she could ask if he was okay or what was going on, he rose dramatically to his feet. His cape wrapped around him making it difficult for him to regain balance, his eyes were locked on her, with a vexation and intensity she was unfamiliar with outside the flyer derby field.
“You know love potions are illegal, right?!” Hunter exclaimed very unceremoniously, clearly flustered and disheveled.
“Um... hi?” said a very confused Willow, not expecting company, especially not from such a loud and upset Hunter.
“They’re ill-e-gal!” Hunter said loudly, stretching the word as though it would help her understand. “Like, against the law!”
“Okay... I already knew that, but thanks for telling me I guess?” she said, setting down her watering can.
“Well, if you knew then why did you give me one?” Hunter demanded, breathing heavily.
“What?”
“Oh, don’t act like you don’t know!” he scoffed dramatically, becoming more unhinged by the second. “After practice t-t-that alleged ‘blue sport drink’ you gave me? It was clearly a love potion!”
“Why would I give you a love potion?”
“I dunno, hazing? A mistake? Curiosity? I don’t have the time to try and decipher the inner workings of your beautiful, complicated mind, I just need the antidote! The ones at the marketplace haven’t been working, so obviously you added something strong to the batch.”
“Hunter, I’m not on the potions track, I don’t even know what ingredients I’d need for that,” Willow said with a small smile, unable to help but be amused. “Besides, it definitely wasn’t a love potion.”
“Well then how do you explain... this?” He gestured vaguely to himself as his voice became more distraught. “I’m a mess! I can't eat, i can't sleep, I-I start thinking about you and all of I sudden I feel sweaty and stupid and- why are you smiling?”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” said Willow, covering her mouth though she couldn’t hide her clear delight at his cluelessness.
“It’s not funny!” he insisted.
“I know, I know,” she said, unable to sound convincing. “Keep going, I’m sorry.”
“Agh! Even looking at you right now I feel like I’m gonna pass out!” He said, exacerbated, not sure where he was supposed to look. “I can’t focus on patrol because I’m staring at your penstagram account or wondering what you’re doing and my distractions are gonna end up putting people in danger!”
“You’re right; this is serious,” said Willow, trying to sound convincing. She herself was in no rush to cure or resolve the ailment. “And you think you’re feeling this way because you drank a love potion?”
“Yes! What other explanation is there?”
“Well, I think I might have an idea but I don’t wanna embarrass you.”
“Well, what am I supposed to do?” he pleaded desperately. “Clearly, distance does nothing to dilute the effects. Willow, my pockets are full of leaves!” He declared, taking her shoulders and shaking her.
“Why?”
“Because they’re green like your eyes and I wanted to find one the same shade!” He explained as he bashfully removed her from his grasp and began to pace, talking faster and fidgeting with his hands. Willow tried with all her might to suppress her joy at his concern for the symptoms and not the sickness. “It's actually a fairly difficult shade to find organically in the arboreal section of nature, it’s more of peridot color which led me to search for matching gemstones and now my pockets are full of rocks and leaves and it’s getting very messy and heavy!”
“Wait, why did you keep all the leaves?” Willow laughed.
“Because you’re a plant witch! You love leaves!” Hunter practically screamed, tossing his collection from his pockets into the air in frustration as he panted, running out of breath from his rant.
“Awh, I do love leaves,” she giggled as she picked one out of his hair and twirled it between her fingers, admiring the coloring. Upon her closeness, Hunter’s face quickly became beet red. Willow made a mental note to grow a tree later with leaves the same shade. “How long does a love potion take to wear off?”
“Usually 48 hours for a standard one, but this has been going on for over a week now,” he said helplessly, burying his head in his hands as he leaned his back to the rail and sank to the ground. “And it’s only been getting worse! I wrote you a poem, Willow. A poem!”
“Wow, that is serious,” Willow asked, taking a seat on the ground beside him and placing her hand on his shoulder. “Why didn’t you say anything sooner?”
“I thought I could get rid of it on my own,” he said with a sigh. “I told Darius what was happening. But he just laughed at me! Can you believe it? Then I told him everything I tried and he told me to try going to the source but you clearly didn’t do this so I just…I feel like my chest is gonna explode.”
“Hunter...” Willow didn’t know where to start. How were you supposed to inform your crush that they had a crush on you? “You know the drink I gave you... I just bought it from the store.”
“Oh! Which store? I’ll go back there and ask them if they have a-.”
“I bought a pack of four, everyone at practice had one,” she said softly.
“Has... everyone else been having similar side effects?”
She shook her head.
“Oh,” said Hunter, suddenly uncertain. He folded his hands and brought them to his face and Willow could tell he was thinking intently of what to do next. Willow made herself comfortable on the ground beside him, watching the calculations fly behind his burgundy eyes. She knew he was smart, he was bright, but he truly was the stupidest boy she had ever met. “Hmm.”
“I can go get a bottle from the kitchen if you wanna read the ingredients-.”
“Wait! They came in a pack of four!” Hunter recalled excitedly.
“Yeah?”
“I remember you offered me one but I didn’t want to take one if that meant you couldn’t have one-.”
“You told me it was because you had never had a liquid that was so oddly colored,” Willow interjected, finding the real reason even sweeter.
“-well, yes that too,” confirmed Hunter as he continued. “So I was skeptical and then you assured me there was nothing wrong with it so you took a sip of it to show me. And of course I trust you completely so I drank the rest without questioning it.”
“Okay…?”
“It was an indirect kiss!” he said with delight as though that explained anything.
“I… guess so?”
“If an indirect kiss is what caused this to happen….”
“Hunter, I don’t think that’s actually what-.”
“... then a direct one  must be the way to reverse it!”
“Ya know what actually maybe,” said Willow, placing her hand beneath her chin. Now she was the one unable to catch her breath. They needed to say they tried everything, right? What kind of friend would she be if she didn’t help him anyway she could?
“Oh, but I could never ask that of you,” groaned Hunter, defeated.
“Well, I dunno, I think you could,” Willow said, trying to seem nonchalant and casual, brushing her hair behind her ear.
“Do you… think it will work?”
Oh it definitely wouldn’t, Willow was counting on it.
“Guess we’ll find out,” she said with a seemingly innocent shrug as she leaned in closer, and Hunter jumped back when he realized just how close she was.
“Oh my Titan, are you trying to kill me??” he exclaimed, falling over himself. Willow just laughed. “This is great, this is just great,” said Hunter, removing his cape and throwing it in front of him, trying anything to help him breathe again. “You’re laughing. I’m basically dying and you’re laughing!
“I’m sorry,” she said, trying but failing to subdue her laughter. “It’s just kind of cute.”
“‘I’m cute?’” he turned to her, as though disgusted by the thought. “No, you’re cute, that’s the problem! Ahh! I don’t know what I was thinking, I can't even look at you without freaking out, why would I ever think I’d be able to… titan, I can’t even say it now.”
“It’s okay, we’ll figure this out together," she assured him, rising back up to her feet. She offered her hand to help him up and he took a deep breath before he mustered up the courage to take it. Progress, right? He stood in front of her and she took his other hand, and prompted him to do the breathing exercise. Progress. “Try closing your eyes, okay?”
He obliged, squeezing them shut tight and Willow’s heart skipped at how winsome he looked, putty in her hands. She delicately stepped onto her tiptoes to press a gentle but meaningful kiss to his lips. Closing her eyes as she leaned into the contact, her chest warm and buzzing like a fire bee hive. She waited there for a moment, waiting for him to pull away but he stood there stunned and when he realized the moment as real he removed his hands from hers and wrapped his arms around her waist to pull her closer. Willow was a little surprised but did not object as she brought her arms around his neck. She could feel him smiling, delighted that this was a remedy he approved of. As she went to pull away, he followed after, not ready to let the moment end.
She opened her eyes first and saw the talkative anxious boy who had crashed on her balcony, now totally speechless. His eyes slowly opened as she eagerly awaited to hear his thoughts.
“It didn’t work,” he said breathlessly, forgetting why he was supposed to be disappointed. “You’re still cute.”
“Darn it,” she said, equally as breathlessly and even less disappointed as she did not loosen her grip on him. “Sorry.”
It was even worse now. Everything seemed like it was in slow motion and there was a rose colored frame around her and music was playing and Hunter felt like he would float up into the sun if she let go of him now.
“It’s okay, it's not your fault,” he said, their position finally registering as he slowly removed her arms from her waist, hyper aware of how sweaty his hands were and how hot his face was. “I’m sorry to have bothered you with this. Thanks for trying to help.”
“Anytime,” said Willow softly, never meaning anything more.as she tried to figure out what to do with her hands now that they weren’t anchored around his neck.
“I should… probably go…” he said timidly as he picked up his cape from the floor, quiet for the first time and Willow worried that he was embarrassed and that was the last thing she wanted him to associate with kissing her. She wanted to tell him what was really happening, but that hardly seemed like a way to lessen his embarrassment.
“Wait!” she said, and he looked up to her with wide eyes. “Um, actually… what if I took a love potion too?”
“No, I couldn’t let you do that,” said Hunter, shaking his head. “It’s so scary. But actually kind of incredible? But then scary again, and I couldn’t let you feel this way about me. That would be less like a potion and more like a curse.”
“What if I told you… I already took one?”
“What? Willow, why would you-?”
“What’s done is done,” she said innocently, as though it was out of her hands. “Right? And... the kiss didn't reverse mine either so I guess… we’re in this mess together.”
Hunter nodded slowly. “This constitutes an investigation,” he declared, slamming his fist into his palm. “Someone’s going around distributing illegal love potions! But who? And why?”
It was a start, Willow would take what she could get.
“Who knows?” she said with a grand shrug. “But um, until we do… are you okay feeling this way for a little bit longer?”
“I mean, it’s a little less scary knowing that you’re feeling the same way,” he admitted, rubbing his neck and giving her a shy grin .
“That’s usually how it goes,” she said with a bright smile that made him feel like he was melting. “And… what if the effects turn out to be permanent? Would you… be okay with that too?”
“Well,” Hunter took a deep breath as he carefully took Willow’s hand, the rush still there but not quite as overwhelming. Maybe it was because they shared that now. “I’m okay with it i-if you are.”
“Well,” she interlaced their fingers and gave his hand a gentle squeeze and looked up at him with shining eyes even the most precious peridot would envy. “I’ve got a gut feeling it’s incurable.”

I'm gonna start posting my really short one-shots on here.
Pumpkin - Peridot and Lapis start a dog army for their Pumpkin.
“Lapis!” Peridot shouted from the bottom of the barn to Lapis, who was hovering in the air.
“Yeah, Peri?” Lapis looked down.
“I’ve been researching dogs, as Steven calls them, and they are social creatures. But our Pumpkin is all alone out here,” Peridot exclaimed.
“Pumpkin is a pumpkin, and they have us,” Lapis replied.
“Yes, but what if they crave more than us!?” Peridot whined.
“Then take Pumpkin to more dogs?” Lapis stated.
“We don’t have more dogs!” Peridot cried.
Lapis sighed, “Then get Steven to make more?”
“Pumpkin needs companionship now! We need dogs!” Peridot waved her arms around to make it seem more urgent.
Lapis picked up Peridot and Pumpkin, “Let’s go dog hunting then.” Then she flew off.
The three of them grazed by grass as they searched for dogs. The bright sun shined across fields and fields of emptiness, quickly flying by.
They spotted a person walking their golden retriever below them. Lapis ducked and grabbed the dog and its leash in one big swoop.
They repeated this process several times before spotting many dogs, all gathered in a park.
“Lazuli! Look at all those dogs we’ve hit the jackpot!” Peridot cheered.
Wordlessly, Lapis landed them in the dog park.
Peridot stared awestruck and excitedly pointed to all kinds of dogs. “Look! There’s a great dane! Oh, and there’s a corgi!”
Lapis Lazuli smiled at this display, “I don’t know how we’ll carry all these dogs.”
Peridot didn’t hear her and instead strutted off to grab more dogs.
Lapis sighed and sat on the ground, waiting for Peridot’s return.
Pumpkin barked excitedly at other dogs and then barked and pawed at Lapis.
“What is it, Pumpkin?” Lapis asked.
Pumpkin spun around and chased its tail.
“Do you want to play?” Lapis observed.
Pumpkin nodded, and Lapis looked around for a nearby stick.
After finding and grabbing one, Lapis threw the stick and shouted, “Fetch!”
The dogs ecstatically chased after the stick and playfully fought amongst themselves for it.
Lapis continued playing fetch with the dogs while waiting for Peridot to return.
Eventually, Peridot returned with an angry crowd behind her.
Shouts rang from behind her, “Let's fly, Lapis!”
Lapis used her powers to carry all the dogs that were playing with each other.
Once they got to the barn, Pumpkin started happily getting to know all the other dogs.
“We’re such great parents,” Peridot smiled.
Steven made them return all the dogs.
Constructive criticism is appreciated!

So recently I posted fusion art of Grian and Doc from the Gemcyt au, and I love them so much (bc toxic) so I wrote a oneshot for them. This oneshot features Grian, Doc, Scar, Mumbo, Watermelon Tourmaline (my fusion of Mumbo and Doc) and Purple Azurite (my fusion of Grian and Doc). I’d recommend looking at their designs if you haven’t already, just to more easily understand the oneshot.
Credit to @chrisrin for Scar, Grian, Mumbo and Doc designs, and also for making Gemcyt au in the first place :)
-
The day was like any other, Mumbo watching as Scar and Grian practiced their duels, standing on the balcony of the beach house. His gaze was focused on Grian, watching as the aquamarine pulled water balloons from his gem, soaring above the ground as he attacked Scar. The spinel sliced through each of the balloons with his cane sword, giggling happily as he did so.
“Hey, Mumbo!” Grian paused, tossing a water balloon in his hand as he waved to the peridot. “Why don’t you come down and practice with us?”
“Oh, um-“ Mumbo blushed slightly. “I-I’m okay. You know I’m no good at fighting..”
“Awe. Okay.” Grian said, turning back to continue his fight. Only, he ended up pausing, his wings slowly flapping as he landed on the sandy ground.
“Gri?” Scar raised an eyebrow. “What’s up? Why’d you stop?”
“I thought I saw—“ He said, before smiling. “I did! I-I think that’s him!”
“Him?” Scar and Mumbo asked in unison, the two looking further down the beach to spot a large figure. Grian smiled widely as he flew off, rushing to meet the figure.
Mumbo came down the steps of the beach house, he and Scar sharing a confused look. “Do we…follow him?”
“I suppose.” Mumbo said, walking along the beach to follow after Grian.
Grian and the mystery gem were already walking back to the beach house, so the four met at the halfway point. When Mumbo approached the two, the gem that Grian was with was nearly twice his size. And Mumbo was quite tall, this new gem had to be at least twelve feet!
He was some kind of centaur gem, maybe bloodstone, used for heavy construction and even wars. His gem was on his left eye, and he was laughing with Grian perched atop his shoulder.
“Oh, guys!” Grian smiled as the new gem came to a stop in front of the two. “This is— wait, hold on..”
He paused, suddenly noticing the spikes along the new gem’s body that were leftover from corruption. “Oh my gosh, I-I didn’t even notice! Doc, what on earth happened to you?!”
The gem known as Doc let out a slight chuckle. “Oh, I was hoping you wouldn’t notice those..”
“Doc..” Grian spoke, his voice nearly a whisper as he placed the palm of his hand against the bloodstone’s cheek. “You were corrupted, weren’t you?” He asked quietly, a sad look across the smaller gem’s face.
“I wanted to get stronger.” He muttered, his voice somewhat ashamed of his actions. “I missed you. I missed fusing with you.”
“So you fused with a corrupted gem? Oh Doc..” Grian’s expression saddened further at that thought, leaping off the bloodstone’s shoulder. He flapped his wings, hovering face to face with Doc. His tiny hands were placed on Doc’s cheeks, while Grian pressed his forehead against the larger gem’s. “Is that why it’s been so long? You’ve been corrupted? All this time?”
“It was just a couple thousands of years.” Doc said gruffly as he pulled away, a slight blush across his face.
“I can’t believe you!” Grian put his hands on his hips, the wings on his back flapping angrily. “You fused, knowing you would get corrupted!”
“Um, sorry.” Mumbo stepped between the two, a bit nervous to approach the twelve foot tall gem. “Gri, who exactly is this..?”
Doc seemed a little upset as the peridot referred to Grian with a nickname, though the smaller gem didn’t seem to notice. “Oh, sorry Mumbo. Sometimes I forget I met you and Scar after leaving Homeworld. This is Doc. He and I worked together back on Homeworld.”
“Mm.” The bloodstone nodded, opening the palm of his hand to give Grian a place to land comfortably. “We ran away together after we realized the diamonds would never allow gems like us to be together.”
“Buh-, be together-?” Mumbo seemed a bit jealous as he stumbled over his words, while Doc simply had a smug grin across his face.
“I-it was a long time ago, really.” Grian said dismissively, sensing the tension between the two gems.
“Wow! So you two were together?” Scar asked excitedly, while Mumbo looked away sadly.
Doc nodded proudly. “We even fused. Y’know, back when it wasn’t acceptable.”
“Wow G! I didn’t know you had this whole other life before us!” The spinel said excitedly, reaching out to try and pet the fluff on Doc’s chest as he spoke. The larger gem slapped his hand away, growling slightly. Grian pat his shoulder, helping to calm the beast down.
He gave an awkward chuckle. “Oh boy, there’s a lot of things I haven’t told you guys.”
“Oh.” Mumbo sighed, deflating visibly. “I’ll um, let you two catch up. I’ll be inside, okay?”
“Wait, Mumbo!” Grian tried to follow the peridot, who was clearly upset, though Doc grabbed his wrist.
“C’mon, let him go.” Said the bloodstone, shooting a cold glare at Scar as he spoke. The spinel gem looked intimidated, shrinking under the stare.
“I’ll, uh..go check on him…” Scar forced an awkward giggle, rushing after Mumbo.
Grian frowned, clearly concerned about the two, though Doc dragged a claw through his hair, bringing the aquamarine back to the present. “I never thought I’d see you again. I thought I’d be stuck a corrupted gem forever.”
“I really am glad to see you again, Doc.” Grian nodded, a sad smile across his face as he glanced back to the house. “But I think my friends are a bit intimidated by you..”
“Aw, they can use a bit of toughening up.” He said dismissively, “Those two haven’t seen what we have. Especially that peridot.”
“Mumbo is fine just the way he is.”
Doc’s nose wrinkled in disgust, the bloodstone glancing away with a mix of anger and upset across his face. “So he’s clearly your new fusion partner.”
“Don’t talk like that, Mumbo and Scar are my friends. Yeah we fused, but as friends.”
“I don’t think that peridot thinks so.” Doc sneered.
Grian frowned. “You’re not being very nice right now. I’m starting to remember why we went our separate ways.”
“You mean how you left me?” The bloodstone asked, raising his voice slightly.
Grian opened his wings, flying slightly above Doc’s hand. “Because you wanted to stay fused! You know that’s not what I wanted! All you wanted was to fuse to be stronger, you just wanted to use me!”
Doc scoffed, looking insulted. “You loved being Azurite just as much as I did. Don’t act like I forced you to fuse.”
“That’s all you ever did! You only wanted me because I was able to make you stronger! You could have done that with any other gem!”
“But I wanted to do it with YOU!”
The two went silent, staring at one another with anger and frustration in their eyes. Grian sighed, turning away while crossing his arms. “You’re the same as ever. I don’t think you should stay.”
Growling, Doc stomped closer to the aquamarine. “I came all this way, just to see you, and you’re just going to reject me?!”
“What, were you expecting things to magically go back to normal?” Grian snapped. “It’s been hundreds of thousands of years! We were only together for a couple hundred!”
“I came back because I wanted to fuse with you again! To be Purple Azurite again! Don’t you want that too?!”
Grian shook his head, keeping his back facing the bloodstone as he crossed his arms. “No, I don’t. I want you to leave.”
He growled again, a deep growl from his chest, Doc grabbing ahold of Grian’s arm to pull him close. “We’re fusing.” He spoke darkly, a cold look in his eye.
Grian frantically shook his head, trying to pull his arm free. “W-Wha-? Doc—?! Nono, I-I don’t want to fuse—!” His voice cracked, tears starting to well in his eyes as he began to panic.
He tried to spin Grian in an attempt to dance, though the small aquamarine wasn’t cooperative, squirming in Doc’s grip while trying to escape. “We can be together again.” Said the bloodstone, “We can be Purple Azurite forever.”
“N-no! I don’t want to be, not with you!” Grian said, kicking Doc’s arm to try and free himself, with no success. “M-Mumbo! Scar! Anyone, please!”
The two gems came running out of the house upon hearing their names called, both had clearly been watching the whole time out of concern for Grian. Doc paused with a growl, pulling the aquamarine closer to him. “What are you two runts supposed to do?” He spoke tauntingly with a laugh in his voice.
Scar and Mumbo shared a look of concern, the peridot grabbing the shorter gem’s wrist. “Scar.” He said, eyes pleading. “Please. Fuse with me to help Grian.”
The spinel’s lips curled into a grin that spread across his face, excited at the proposition. “Oh boy, it’s been a while!”
Mumbo wrapped an arm around Scar’s waist, dipping the gem slightly. “Then let’s dance, shall we?” The green gem smirked, taking Scar’s hand with his free one.
The gem on Mumbo’s forehead began to glow, as well as the gem in the center of Scar’s chest, while Grian’s face lit up with hope. Mumbo tossed Scar into the air, catching him by the waist before twirling with the spinel in his arms. Scar giggled as he was dipped again, before Mumbo lowered his head, pressing his gem against Scar’s.
Their bodies were enveloped in a white flash of light, Doc growling underneath his breath. He clenched his teeth tightly, shaking his head in annoyance. “Fine. I’ll take care of the two of you.” The bloodstone said as he released his hold on Grian before stepping forward.
“Don’t you mean the one of us?” An excited and bubbly voice spoke up, causing a tall figure to step through the light, the fusion of the two gems revealing himself. “Oh, wait, is that grammatically correct? Oh dear, that would be embarrassing if it wasn’t.”
One hand was on his hip as he spoke, while the other scratched his chin. The second pair of hands lifted up the fusion’s tophat and scratched the top of his head as he pondered for a moment. “Oh well, no time for that!”
“Watermelon!” Grian smiled upon spotting the fusion, relief washing over the aquamarine. “I’m so happy you’re here!”
Doc began to laugh, reaching up to his gem. “Watermelon? You gotta be kidding me.” He said, pulling his battle axe from his gem. “I’m going to shatter the two of you.”
“Watermelon Tourmaline, to be exact.” The gem introduced himself, lifting his tophat as he bowed. “And I’m not too sure my friend there is on board with fusing.”
“And you’re supposed to stop me?” Doc snorted, letting the handle of his war axe rest on his shoulder. “Even as a fusion, you two are still runts.”
Watermelon blushed out of embarrassment, before letting out a sigh to keep his cool. “Yes, we are, but I won’t tolerate any violence towards Grian.” Said the fusion, reaching to his chest gem. He pulled out a cane in a matter of seconds, pointing it at the bloodstone. “So either leave, or we’ll take care of you.”
Doc chuckled darkly, raising his axe slightly. “It might be one vs two, but I don’t lose to scrawny gems.”
He tapped his cane against the ground, causing the end of the walking stick to reveal the hidden blade attached at the end. Watermelon raised his cane sword, a smile across his face. “En garde.”
Doc growled as his face heated with anger, raising his axe as he galloped forward. He slashed down at Watermelon, the latter blocking easily with his own sword. He stepped to the side, avoiding a follow up attack, and brought up his cane to block Doc’s next attack. Watermelon smirked, using his sword against the axe to hold his ground.
“You aren’t good enough for Grian.” Doc spat as the two fought to hold their ground.
“I wouldn’t say that.” Replied Watermelon with a sly smirk.
Doc growled in annoyance as he charged once more, swinging his axe downwards. Watermelon parried, making contact with the axe before slashing upwards, knocking it off balance slightly. He then thrust his left leg upwards, knocking the axe out of Doc’s hands and sending it flying into the air.
Watermelon’s second pair of arms cartoonishly wrapped around Doc’s body, tying him up securely. His other pair of arms took off his hat, and without breaking eye contact, he held the hat off to the side. Doc’s axe came down from the sky, falling right into the tophat. Watermelon smirked as he showed Doc the inside of the tophat, revealing his weapon was suddenly gone.
Grian’s smile grew wider as he began happily clapping his hands together. Watermelon placed his tophat back on his head, chuckling slightly as he began to do a few bows. “Thank you, thank you! I’m here all night, folks!”
Doc looked at Grian, wrath burning in his gaze. With the sudden burst of rage Doc grabbed Watermelon’s arms, still bound, using them to swing Watermelon Tourmaline around with enough force to send him flying into the side of the rocky cliff. Doc pulled a new axe from his gem, clearly more angry than before.
Watermelon groaned, adjusting his top hat. “Jeez, this guy packs quite the punch.” He muttered underneath his breath, reaching to pull a new cane sword from his gem.
Doc moved quicker than before, practically leaping across the beach to reach Watermelon before he could grab his new weapon. Just as he had grabbed the edge of his cane, Doc used the flat end of his axe to knock the cane out of Watermelon’s grasp.
“I told you.” Doc growled, lowering the axe just an inch away from Watermelon’s chest. “You two will never be enough for Grian.”
He brought the axe down, slicing Watermelon’s body, causing the two gems to split from their fusion. They fell apart, both exhausted as they landed onto the sandy beach. “And you-“ Doc growled angrily, grabbing Mumbo by the collar of his shirt. “I’m going to enjoy shattering you.”
“Doc, no! Stop!” Grian rushed over, grabbing the handle of the bloodstone’s axe, trying to pull the weapon from his grasp. “Please, d-don’t! Y-you can’t, d-don’t shatter him.”
Grian was begging, tears rolling out of his eye as he shook his head. “Please, I-I’ll fuse with you, I’ll stay with you, I swear! Don’t hurt Mumbo or Scar, pl-please!”
Doc smirked, dropping Mumbo to the ground. He fell limp, barely conscious he hit the ground. “Good. That’s what I wanted to hear.” The gem leaned in close, cupping Grian’s cheek with his free hand. “I promise I won’t shatter your friends, then.”
He looked back down at the defeated Mumbo, before shoving his axe into the peridot’s chest, causing his body to poof, while his gem landed safely in the sand. Doc chuckled, turning towards Grian while offering his hand. “Shall we?” He asked, a dark grin across his face.
Grian sighed, placing his hand in Doc’s as he nodded. “Yes. Let’s fuse.”
“G-Gri—“ Scar tried to speak up, though he was clearly very beat up from the fight. Doc growled at him, glaring down the spinel.
“Scar, it’s okay.” Grian spoke softly, refusing eye contact with the pink gem. “Just..please. Don’t look for me. And take care of Mumbo.”
Doc began the fusion dance, not giving Scar a chance to react. Grian stayed in the air to keep the dance easier, the bloodstone twirling the aquamarine before pulling him close. He chuckled darkly as their gems began to glow, the light overtaking the two of them.
“NO!” Scar yelled, watching as the light cleared.
Purple Azurite had his arms wrapped around his body, as if he were hugging himself, his breathing ragged. He looked down at his purple skin, dragging his hands through his long hair. His face twisted into a dark grin, a laugh escaping the fusion as he dragged a hand along Grian’s gem.
“We’re us again.” Azurite spoke, looking up at the sky while he chuckled to himself. “I’m me again.”
Scar reached into his gem, pulling out his cane sword. He stood up with shaking legs, eyes filled with tears. “Gr-Grian, no, s-stop-“ The spinel tried to argue. “Don’t, d-don’t do this-“
“That’s not our name!” Azurite snapped, eyes filled with fury. “Grian isn’t here anymore. He’s gone!”
“P-please—“ Scar reached out his hand, using his cane as support to hold himself up. Azurite grabbed his wrist, lifting the pink gem off of the ground with a horrifying grin. He threw Scar against the wall, hard enough to cause a crater to form and shake the cliff side.
“Stay down.” Azurite spoke, his voice more of Grian’s than Doc. “Don’t make me poof you.”
Scar curled up into a ball, shaking from the pain and fear. His breath came quickly, short gasps coming from between clenched teeth. He looked up at the fusion with his eyes filled with tears, watching as they walked to the edge of the beach.
The wings of water formed on his back, opening up to reveal they were three times the size of Grian’s original wings. Azurite looked back for a moment, before looking forward once more.
His wings flapped a few times, lifting the fusion off of the ground, before he flew off.

Me when I watch Spiderman and become a better gem because of it

My take on a Gemcyt Roier, a yellow pearl whose very loyal to his diamond ;)
Gemcyt AU created by @chrisrin
First outfit design inspired by @mertensia this gem Roier specifically it’s so good tysm
More notes below
So, Roier is a yellow pearl assigned to yellow diamond. He’s loyal, protective, but is known to gossip. Basically he’s similar to yellow pearl in the show but with more roier-isms. Yellow diamond is someone other than stampy in this concept, because I thought of someone who would be really funny and I’m sticking with it. I tried to make the third outfit reflect the diamond like in the show but I’m not sure how obvious it comes across. Either way I’m drawing him next so just wait and see ;)
For relationships other than his diamond, Roier trusts a certain Lapis Lazuli with his life and are always seen together whenever he isn’t working. After a few days on Earth, she’s already referring to herself as Jaiden. He also does not care for Joel, mainly because he’s an off color pearl. Lots of I’m perfect and therefore superior behavior which Joel also doesn’t care for. Other than that, they’re more like colleagues than acquaintances. Far far in the future, when Roier does chill out on Earth, their interactions are awkward to say the least (very “oh yeah we used to work together thousands of years ago and did not like each other”) but they cope eventually.
I’d imagine Roier comes to Earth long after the shattering of Pink Diamond and the great gem war. He’s still loyal to the diamonds during the rise of rebels and runaways, as seen in the life crew. Though eventually, he has to make a tough decision, perhaps involving said Lapis and a certain Tiger’s Eye and escapes to Earth. He does not like it and behaves similarly to Peridot early. However, much like Peridot and Camp Pininghearts, what really sells him on Earth is the media, specifically Spiderman. He’s just enthralled and begins to love Earth for it.
Why? Because it’s funny :D

poor fusion reader :( they just wanted to have peace
Why must you make me sad 😞/pos
I didn't mean to make you, or anyone sad. And their reborn parts- Navy!Reader and Peach!Reader- get back together again, becoming friends, and fusing again. Even having odd memories of strange people in a foreign world, in colors of the rainbow... If only... if only they knew what those dreams meant. Who those funny-looking people were...
And sometimes... there's something else... someONE else... who visits their dreams. But, they're so... tiny. With a little yellow gem tucked over their heart, who stares at them in such shock. Like they've never seen another person-er, persons- whatever they are, before...
Bonus:
Wolverine (Black Diamond): sighing on his throne I miss my Sapphire... Even their weird little friend... Why did they leave me- leave their own home?
Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): I miss Pearlie, too... And even your weird corundum... Guards, let in the Peridot and their manager
Peridot 5XS enters, giving the diamond salute along with the guards and their manager: Greetings, oh lustrous, amazing, illuminating, shining Black Diamond and Orange Diamond!
Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): rolls his eyes
Wolverine (Black Diamond): motions for them to get on with it
Peridot 5XS: Oh stunning, wonderful Diamonds, I, Peridot 5XS Cut 350 Facet 9-12, have for Your Lustrousness' eyes and use, Experiment X has their holoscreen light up with information on organics and gems We have found it possible to use unwanted gems, fuse them with organics, and make the newest stage of weaponized soldiers! We won't have anymore need of gem-on-gem fusions, so as not to soil gems superior intellect and forms. As organics are durable against certain weapons such as destabilizers, light distortion, and can adapt to the atmospheres of foreign planets, I fused them with a repurposed gem, one harvested and inserted into the organic, making certain they'll receive the superior intellect, weaponry, and abilities of a gem. What restrictions their organic part has, can be used to further exert control and keep them obedient... Not-Not that they WOULDN'T be obedient! But due to the organic bits being... reliant... on certain stimuli, they require extra discipline and orders
Peridot 5XS: sends the information of the tests and experiments to the Diamonds As you can see, I've made progress with three test subjects, repurposing two of their gems and creating the first one... And the gems withstood every test! Oh, if only they had stayed loyal to your merciful and wonderful selves. It was such a waste of their potential
The Diamonds scroll through the notes, slowly filling with dread...
Wolverine (Black Diamond): These are very... thorough. What gems did you use?
Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): Perhaps they could be of use... Hmmm... You did everything but shatter them
Peridot 5XS: Oh, I'm SO glad you find it useful! The gems I used are of no concern, simply traitors to the Empire. Off-Colors, if you will
Wolverine (Black Diamond): This is an order. Which gems did you use? glares down at them
Peridot 5XS: gulps and quivers J-just a pearl and a sapphire- they were fused, a filthy abomination against the Empire- th-they wouldn't be missed!
The two Diamonds freeze:
Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): Guards. Shatter them
Peridot 5XS: W-w-wait, what?! Please, my Diamonds, have mercy!
Sabreooth (Orange Diamond): Shatter their manager as well, for allowing this to happen
Peridot 5XS: WAIT! PLEASE! M-my Black Diamond! Please, spare me!
Wolverine (Black Diamond): ... shatter them
The room goes still
Wolverine (Black Diamond): WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! I SAID SHATTER THEM!
Peridot 5XS: WAIT, PL- poofed by a guard's spear
Wolverine (Black Diamond): Take them away, and leave us
The guards leave...
Wolverine (Black Diamond): Brother... what have we done?
Sabretooth (Orange Diamond):
Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): Nothing we can't try and fix... OLIVE PEARL!
Toad/Todd (Olive Pearl): Y-yes, My Diamond?
Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): Call in Gray Diamond. We need to talk...
(They DO find and rescue Laura/Yellow Diamond, who they find out can't be separated from her gem, as she is only half gem and half human, so they learn to accept her as a product of their blindness, and do their best to take care of her and healing her, while also looking for Sapphire!Reader and Pearl!Reader (who will be called Navy and Peach). Laura can visit them/Nacre in her dreams, and tries to talk with them, not knowing who they are or were. They become buddies, and gossip about the people/gems they know... She slowly pieces together they're the two who the Diamonds talk about, and who they miss. Thus, Laura kinda sends them to Earth, more-or-less saying "Here they are, fix them" and hoping her new sibling is brought back home so she can hang out with them for real)

[Start ID. Four drawings of Hollow Knight ocs, in a dull green tone on a small canvas. Taking up the right half is a render of Caramel, a bee wielding a mantis claw across her shoulder and donning a cape in the colors of the aromantic flag. On the left are three colored sketches: the first at the top shows Caramel with her trio of friends, green-mantled bug Hawksbeard talking with her and gray millipede Molini curled around them both. The caption to the right says "Friends who love her" in all caps. In the center-left is a drawing of a tan and brown slugcat with a vulture mask on her face and a spear on her back, captioned "caramel slugcat, what will she do". Last is a sketch of Caramel and the bee nosk Pollux, who's dressed in an asexual flag of their own, and who has taken Caramel's mask to hold it up to its face. Caramel looks at her cheerfully, arm around her back. End ID.]
Tumblr media
[Start ID. A rough drawing of Caramel and Hawksbeard in Rain World. They're now a tan slugcat and green scavenger, respectively, seeming less familiar with each other in the image than they are in canon. Caramel now has two spears on her back, holding another spear in one hand and a pearl in the other. Hawksbeard wears a sash of pearls, and offers a lantern to Caramel, the only thing lighting up the drawing in the dim Shaded Citadel. End ID.]
Tumblr media
[Start ID. Another drawing of Caramel and Hawksbeard together, sitting down on a blank, dull green background. A cropped tweet by Caramel's head reads "Why are girls allowed to say girlfriend to refer to a platonic friend, but I can't say 'this is my boytoy twink malewife Hawksbeard'", with a spur indicating she's saying it, and the Hawksbeard part being a write-over. Caramel gestures with one hand in a sort of wave and has her other arm around her friend, while Hawksbeard looks at her in slight concern, simply stating "what". End ID.]
Small doodles of Caramel to commemorate the first-ever aromantic visibility day :]

Buttercup Lifts Couch & Mammon Becomes A Dad...? (2024)

Credit for The Powerpuff Girls goes to Craig McCracken

------------
if anyone is wondering, Pink-Pearl is suppose to still look like her original gem humanoid but she is also suppose to be a Moth, and well if Lonely-Pearl was a Moth in her corrupted form, it would make sense that Pearls in a Crossover between Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel and Steven Universe, they would be Moths but still look a bit how they originally looked.
I want to call Pink-Pearl by the nickname "Vollie" but it's okay not everyone calls her that, and it would be interesting in a Crossover Fanon Timeline she forms a friendship with Verosika.
and yes I gave that Soundwave a bow on their head, it is suppose to be one of those Sound-Wave copies of the Original Sounwave.
I have had the idea for a while, that Lancer mistakes Mammon as his Dad, just in a different outfit...
I worked on this drawing around January and I'm just now posting it on February...it was not great a few days ago, I know during my trying to write a theory that has to do with Sari that of course has to do with a Crossover with Hazbin Hotel and TFA...
the connection kept going on and off, and yeah I ended up noticing a bit too late that I forgot to put the word "just" and well it is called "Hazformers Theory: What Sari Could Be Doing With Her Autobot Friends MIA" but even when I was trying to write it, the connection kept going off on me, and it was only making me more mad and feeling not so happy...so even when I got lucky and was finally able to post it, but when I wanted to log back on to fix and edit what I notice I forgot to put down on it...and yeah I had finally got around to it today...
but I was having some trouble logging back on, which I think it was because of the connection going off and on me again, and it might of possibly messed up my password, cause when I did try to use it again today......it didn't turn out too well, I still couldn't get on and at some point I had to make a new password just so I could post not only some new fan theories, but also this drawing and that
I seriously wasn't having a good day, I couldn't really get to sleep and well I do feel a little tired right now, it doesn't help that what happen was I guess a bit stressful...
and anyway Peridot is being Feral and is suppose to have Doe Ears and a Tail, like Peridots end up with Deer like appearance.
Alastor ending up adopting her and having her on that very thing that we see her have on her in one of the episodes of Steven Universe, well it can be one of the ways to keep her from running off when she gets all feral...like it only comes off if she calms down and doesn't act all feral.
and even when you make the drawing big, to read what is being said...
here is what Mammon is saying...
"when did I become a Dad…? I don't remember having a kid…unless Stella has been keeping it a secret from me. oh man, do I need to marry Stella?! I'm NOT ready yet!!! I need to call Stella and tell her to pick up our little acciden-…cough I mean Son."
also in this drawing, Buttercup Utonium is 22 years old, so this is the much older future self of Buttercup.
I think I will post one more thing, than I will be heading to bed to get some sleep...I rather post it now than wait until either tomorrow or in a few days...plus if I'm able to, I may talk more about that Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss Theory that has to do with Soul-Partnership Contract...
anyway hope some find it funny that Lancer thinks that Mammon is his Dad, and making Mammon very confused...also I like the Mamtella ship between Mammon and Stella.....their ship name still sounds like a type of food you put on toast, and I don't know if many will end up using that Mamtella ship name or not, so far I'm the first to call those two by that ship name. XD

Primrose Quartz Maheswaran-Universe
So I rewatched Steven Universe and caught up on the last season along with the movie and Steven Universe Future. You guys know me, I love giving canon character babies so it's time for the daughter of Connie and Steven! (When they're all grown up)
~*~
“Ladies, gentlemen, and gems of all ages!” Greg said. “After years of being away from Beach City, finishing college, and getting married, our favorite couple is back with a new addition. May I present to you Primrose Quartz Maheswaran-Universe!”
Greg opened the door to Steven’s old house, and polite clapping was heard as Steven entered with Connie. Their three-month-old baby, Primrose, was wide awake and taking everything in. When she saw Greg, she reached for him, and Greg took her, making everyone in the room go, ‘Aw.’
“Oh, let me see her; I must see her!” Pearl said. “Oh, look at her! She’s so perfect and chubby. Look at her little cheeks!”
“Primrose, this is Aunty Pearl,” Greg said. “She’s going to teach you how to be proper and, possibly, teach your sword stuff when you’re older.”
Primrose reached for Pearl. Pearl gasped and took her. Steven watched, unable to hide his smile. Primrose had proven to be friendly. Of course, she loved Greg. There were times when Steven had to fight to get his daughter back. She’d be curled up on Greg’s chest, her little fingers clinging to his clothing. She’d sometimes cry when Steven would take her back. Connie squeezed his hand, and he looked at her.
“I told you she’d love them,” Connie said.
“Okay, you were right,” Steven said. “It’s just a lot of people to meet. In the book I read, babies can get overwhelmed easily.”
“Hello, Primrose,” Pearl said. “As Greg said, I’ll be the one to teach you many things. Of course, you’ll be going to school. We’re going to make sure of that.”
“My turn, my turn, my turn!” Amethyst poked Pearl in the side. “I wanna see her!”
“Amethyst, stop that!” Pearl said. “I’ll give her to you, but you better hold her properly. Support her head at all times.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, give her here!” Amethyst demand.
Pearl reluctantly handed Primrose over. Primrose stared at Amethyst; she stuck out her tongue, and Primrose giggled.
“Hey, kiddo, I’m Amethyst! I’m going to be the fun aunt! Just wait until you get older! I’ll show you how to cliff dive!”
“You will not!” Pearl said. “That is out of the question!”
“Wow, this sounds familiar,” Steven chuckled.
It was like he had been taken back in time. He remembered how much Pearl had worried about him and her squabbles with Amethyst. God, he had caused so much trouble when he was younger. It was surreal thinking about his younger years. Here he was, married with a baby. Time really flew by. As Pearl argued about safety, Garnet reached down and plucked Primrose from Amethyst’s hands. Primrose cooed, grabbing hold of Garnet’s finger.
“Tiny hands,” She grinned. “My one weakness.”
“I still don’t believe that thing came from Steven,” Peridot finally spoke. “It doesn’t look a thing like Steven. And why isn’t it called Smaller Steven or Lesser Steven? It would make more logical sense!”
“I see Peridot is still having trouble understanding what a baby is,” Connie chuckled.
“She’s not Steven. She’s her person,” Garnet said. “Humans create other humans, but they’re not copies of them. Primrose will grow up to be her unique person.”
Peridot was about to argue when Garnet grabbed her by the hand and took her to the couch. Peridot was confused when Primrose was handed to her. The gem looked terrified as she held Primrose away from her. Garnet gently pushed Primrose back and then fixed Peridot’s arms so she had the baby correctly.
“Ah, what do I do? What do I do? Steven, guide me!” Peridot begged.
“Just hold her,” Steven said. “Talk to her.”
“Um--Peridot glanced down at the baby. “I’m Peridot. I’m a part of the Crystal Gems. I mostly reside at Little Homeworld. I met your father when I tried to destroy the planet.”
Primrose cooed, and then she gave Peridot a huge smile. Peridot stared at her before hugging her.
“This is my human now,” She declared. “You can’t have her back.”
“Hey, you can’t steal my grandbaby!” Greg said.
Steven burst out laughing. He had missed this chaos. Being on his own had been fantastic. Traveling the United States, meeting new people, and seeing the world had been cathartic. He had done that for a few years before Connie had started hinting she was ready to settle down. Steven had been waiting to hear those words from her, and after they got hitched, a baby was the next step.
Part of him had been terrified. Steven had no idea if his baby would be part Gem like he was. Rose Quartz had made an enormous sacrifice by having him, and Steven was scared it would be the same. Thankfully, the pregnancy went by without any issues. The only weird thing was Connie’s pickles, ice cream and sauerkraut dinners. Steven had been with Connie for every step of the process, from the classes to the doctor’s appointments. There had been no weird gem issues, except Primrose had been born with curly, pink hair. Other than that, everything went fine.
The warp pad glowed; Lapis and Bismuth had arrived. Bismuth was carrying something huge that was wrapped in mismatched wrapping paper.
“Sorry we’re late,” Lapis said. “We had to bring the gift.”
“Where is she? I want to see this baby,” Bismuth said, setting the significant gift down.
“Garnet had to steal her back from Peridot,” Connie said.
Sure enough, Garnet had plucked Primrose from Peridot’s tiny hands. She walked over to Lapis and Bismuth.
“Whoa, she’s tiny!” Lapis said.
“But look at that hair! She has the Quartz curls,” Bismuth chuckled.
Primrose reached up and grabbed Bismuth’s nose. Bismuth chuckled again, making the baby smile.
“That’s one heck of a grip you got there,” Bismuth said.
“You’re too close!” Peridot said. “Move back; you might have germs! I’ll go find the disinfectant!”
Steve watched as Peridot went to find some spray. He was surprised that she was the one who was more neurotic than Pearl. He glanced back to Bismuth, who was now holding Primrose. She brought the baby to the present.
“Ready?” Bismuth asked.
Bismuth grabbed the paper and tore it off. Underneath was a gorgeous silver crib with a mobile. Primrose’s name was engraved on it with a gemstone for the ‘o’. Both Steven and Connie gasped.
“Bismuth, that’s beautiful!” Connie said. “You made this for Primrose?”
“Yep!” Bismuth said with pride. “And watch this!”
Bismuth pressed the gemstone. The crib shook before transforming into a toddler bed with a pillow and blanket. Primrose gurgled, wiggling about in Bismuth’s grasp. Connie walked over to the bed and pressed the gem. Sure enough, it went back to its crib form.
“Bismuth, I’m speechless,” Connie said. “This has to be the most thoughtful and beautiful gift.”
“I did some research on human babies. I thought this gift would be the most helpful,” Bismuth. “What do you think, squirt?”
Bismuth placed Primrose in the crib. Primrose sat down and took in her surroundings. She then lay down in the crib, snuggling into the mattress. Peridot burst into tears.
“She’s so cute!” She bawled. “I love her so much!”
Steven couldn’t stop grinning. He was so happy Primrose had the Crystal Gems in her life. She may not have to save the universe or fight monsters, but she will always be loved.
“Whatcha thinking about schtu-ball?” Greg nudged Steven.
“I’m just happy,” Greg said. “I knew they’d love her, but seeing them love her just---feels right, ya know?”
“How could we not love her? She has the Universe charm,” Greg wrapped an arm around Steven. “Our family is known for making cute babies.”
Steven laughed.
“Peridot, get out of the crib,” Bismuth said.
“NEVER!” Peridot had climbed into the crib with Primrose.
“Oh boy,” Steven chuckled. “This might be a problem.”

blood moon – part two
read on ao3 | read part one | gemcyt / life series, 2.5k words
An AU-within-an-AU of the wonderful gemcyt AU by @chrisrin, and the fic series by @sixteenth-days!
This part introduces two more characters, Mumbo and Lizzie, but since they're Homeworld gems, they don't use those names yet, and Lizzie doesn't use she/her pronouns yet. All that will change in the next chapter, but in the meantime, Mumbo is Peridot and Lizzie is Rose Quartz.
“I can’t believe this,” Grian said, looking at Pearl with a new eye. Now that he knew it was his old friend, he could see the resemblance, though it was mostly in Pearl’s expressions—her new form bore no resemblance to her previous one. “What are you doing here?”
“Looking for you, obviously.” Alex gave him a gentle bump with her shoulder. It hurt a lot less than usual now that she was only twice his size.
“I have so many questions.” Grian tried to organize his thoughts, but it was a hopeless task. “Why do you look like a pearl? Should I be calling you Pearl now, or Alexandrite? And why are you red?”
“I don't care what you call me, Gri. I’m just glad I finally found you,” Pearl said. “The pearl thing started out as a disguise, but I have no idea why I'm red. I was actually hoping you’d know.”
“I've never seen a gem change color before.” Grian landed on Alex’s shoulder and took a closer look, poking her arm in curiosity. “Maybe Scott or Cleo would know something, but I haven’t got a clue. Is this the first time it’s happened?”
“As far as I know. We landed last night, but I didn't leave the ship until morning because—”
“Hang on,” Grian interrupted. “Who’s ‘we’?”
“Me and Peridot,” Alex said. “Oh, and this rose quartz we picked up on the way, but he ran off the second we touched down. Haven't seen him since. He was such a ditz, he probably tripped on a rock somewhere and shattered himself.”
She laughed, but Grian didn’t join her. His days of considering quartz soldiers expendable were over now that he knew some of them personally. If anything happened to BigB, he’d be inconsolable.
“How did you convince Peridot to come with you?” he asked. “I figured he’d never leave Homeworld again after hearing that I disappeared.”
“He’s currently refusing to leave the ship,” Alex admitted. “But he came because he had to, Grian. We both did. We couldn’t just not look for you, knowing you could still be out there.”
A horrible thought occurred to Grian. “This isn’t a Homeworld mission, is it? You’re not reporting back to them or anything?”
“Course not. We left the main ship three solar systems away and took an escape pod here. They can’t track us.”
Grian breathed a sigh of relief. If there was one thing Alexandrite was good at, it was hiding things from the diamonds. He should have more faith in her. “I thought I’d never see you or Peri again,” he said. “I still can’t believe you’re just here.”
“I’m here,” she said. “Come on, bring it in.” She spread her arms open, and Grian moved forward to let her hug him. He could actually sort of hug back this time, since she was smaller than usual. “I missed you so much, Gri. I wish I could have come sooner.”
“I missed you too,” Grian admitted. “Living with Scar is kind of a nightmare. Makes you seem level-headed and rational in comparison.”
“Me? Level-headed?” Alex laughed. “I get it, though. Peri’s been driving me up a wall with how much he talks about you, but I can’t blame him. We were so worried you’d been shattered, but I kept telling myself, Gri’s a survivor. He’d never just die on an alien planet like that. And I was right!” she crowed. “He’ll be thrilled to see you.”
“You think if we’re both there, we can convince him to leave the ship?”
“Who cares about that? We can catch up on the way back, right?” Alex said, her red eyes shining. “Come on, Gri, let’s get out of here!”
“Wait, what?”
Grian stopped dead, replaying the conversation they’d just had in his head. Alex had been glad to see him, she’d been shirking her responsibilities to come find him, but she’d never said anything about staying—in fact, the first thing she’d said to him had been the exact opposite.
“We’re going home, silly.” Pearl tilted her head in confusion. “Don’t you want to get out of here?”
Maybe if she’d come earlier, Grian would have jumped at the chance to get off this planet and return to Homeworld. But now, he’d gotten used to the freedom of doing whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted to do it. He couldn’t imagine returning to his old life just to have the Diamond Authority constantly breathing down his neck.
“I can’t just up and leave,” he told her.
“Why not? We’ve already come up with the perfect cover story.”
“That’s not the problem,” Grian said. “I’ve got a whole life here now. I’m making new friends, fusing, working on this base—” He gestured behind him. “I just put in a chimney. You don’t even know what that is! I don’t even know what that is, but I’m not going to find out if I return to Homeworld.”
Pearl just stared at him. She clearly wasn’t getting the message. “So…you’re not going to come back with us?”
“No,” Grian said firmly. “I’m not going back to Homeworld.”
“Oh.” Pearl stepped back, her eyes going blank. “Okay then.”
“It’s just—” He sighed. “I thought you liked it here. I thought this place would be right up your alley.”
She shrugged. “It’s alright.”
“I was hoping you’d want to stay.” Grian couldn’t blame Pearl for having reservations. He’d had plenty of his own, and it had taken him a while to shake them. “I know it sounds insane.”
“It does,” Pearl agreed. “I’ll have to think about it.” Her voice was flat and unconvincing. She was upset, Grian realized, and trying not to show it. She took a few steps back, glancing off in the direction she’d come from.
“You don’t have to decide yet,” Grian said. “I know it’s a lot.”
“I get it,” Pearl said. “I’ll just—I’ve got to work on some things. I should go.”
“You’re not going to tell anyone from Homeworld that we’re here, are you?”
“I wouldn’t,” she said, sounding offended. “We’re still friends, Gri. I’d never get you in trouble.”
“Or anyone else,” he insisted.
“Or anyone else.” She started walking away, but stopped after a few steps. “You’re not going to blow my cover, are you?”
“You mean tell them you’re not really a pearl?”
“I am a pearl,” she said, but faltered. “I mean—yeah.”
“We’re still friends,” Grian echoed her. He still didn’t know why Alex was in disguise, but he’d get it out of her eventually. “I won’t tell anyone.”
Pearl nodded. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” she told him, and left.
Pearl’s return to the ship was concerning, to say the least.
When she left, Pearl had assured Peridot that she’d be back with Gri at her side. Not only was Gri nowhere to be seen, but Pearl had somehow managed to turn herself an entirely different color.
It may have been a trick of the light, but Peridot wasn’t willing to leave the ship to get a closer look. He hit the button on the wall to deploy the landing bay so she could come in.
“Don’t just stand there,” Pearl said, gesturing for him to join her. “Get out here.”
“I thought you said I wouldn’t have to leave the ship.”
“Change of plans.” Pearl crossed her arms, fixing him with an exasperated glare. “It’s perfectly safe, Peri. I’ve been out here for hours now without a scratch on me.”
“But—”
“Do you want Gri back or not?”
“I don’t want to change color,” Peridot said. “Can’t you just come in here?”
“Nope. You’ll be fine.” She walked up the ramp and grabbed him by the elbow, pulling him down with her. “See? Look, you’re still the same.”
Peridot winced as his foot touched the ground, but nothing happened. Pearl had told him the truth. His usual shade of green had gone a little dull from the dim light, but it was nothing like Pearl’s dramatic shift in hue. “Goodness,” he said, staring down at the earth beneath him. The soil was obscured by a thick layer of organic matter. “What is this stuff?”
“Don’t scan it. You can’t access the database here,” Pearl reminded him.
“I know, I know.” His arms stayed in place, his fingers tapping nervously against his elbows. “So what happened?”
Pearl let out a loud noise of frustration, making Peridot jump. “It went horribly,” she said. “I don’t know what Gri’s problem was. I showed him my gem and everything, and I even told him you came with me, but it was like he didn’t even care.”
“Even though he knows I’m here?” Pearl nodded, and Peridot pulled his arms a little closer around himself. “Oh,” he said softly. “I see.”
“I asked him to come back here with me,” Pearl said. “I told him you were waiting for him, but he refused. He wants to stay here, Peri. He doesn’t care about us anymore.”
Peridot didn’t think Pearl would lie to him, but he couldn’t bring himself to believe that Gri would have rejected them so harshly. “There must be some kind of misunderstanding,” he said. “Maybe he was just upset over something else. We can’t give up after getting all the way here.”
“I’m not giving up on him,” Pearl said. “That’s why I called you out here. We’re going to march right back over there and get this sorted. He can’t say no to us both.”
Peridot stared out into the darkness. Other than the light from the ship, their surroundings were rather dim. If he were to follow Pearl to wherever Gri was, he might risk unwanted contact with all manner of unseen creatures. “Can’t we wait until morning?” he asked her.
“I told you, there’s nothing to be afraid of. Besides the other gems, I haven’t seen a single motile organism since we arrived.”
Right as she finished speaking, something began rustling around in the greenery close by. Peridot immediately ran up the landing bay to hide inside the ship, but Pearl didn’t move. Instead, she drew her gem weapons, a pair of curved blades as long as her forearms, and held them aloft, ready to strike.
“Reveal yourself!” she shouted. “Who’s there?”
“What are you doing? Don’t draw its attention over here!”
“Guys, relax! It’s just me.” A few more branches snapped, and the bushes parted to make way for Rose Quartz, dirty and disheveled but no less chipper than the last time they’d seen him. “Did you find your little friend yet?”
Peridot had never met Rose before this journey. The only reason Rose was here was because he’d overheard Pearl and Peridot discussing their plans. Instead of ratting them out, he’d asked to join them, and they hadn’t had much of a choice but to agree.
“Where have you been all day?” Pearl asked Rose, letting her weapons vanish.
“I was looking around for other gems,” Rose said. “I followed the sun like you told me, but then it disappeared, so I turned around and came back.”
Pearl pinched the bridge of her nose. “Rose, I told you that the previous mission landings were in that direction,” she said, pointing east.
“You said they were towards the sun,” Rose said. “And the sun moved, so I followed it.”
“Are you like this on purpose, or are you really just that stupid?”
“Hey!” Rose crossed his arms. “Don’t call me stupid!”
“I’m glad you’re safe, Rose,” Peridot said, trying to steer the conversation away from an argument. He couldn’t make sense of why Pearl was acting so hostile. Until now, she’d had no problem being kind to Rose, keeping all her frustrations with Rose’s cluelessness between the two of them.
“Oh, I’m fine,” Rose said with confidence. “I’m a lot stronger than I look. Hey, Pearl, why are you red now?”
“That’s not important,” Pearl said. “What matters is that I saw all the missing gems today, Rose. None of them were shattered.”
“Wait, all of them? Really?”
“I cross-referenced every gem I saw with the reports of gems that were lost on Life. Everyone was accounted for.”
“What about Pearl? Where’s Pearl?”
Peridot pointed at Pearl immediately, only to find that Pearl was also currently pointing at herself. Rose laughed, waving them off.
“I know about that pearl, don’t worry,” he said. “I’m talking about Pink Pearl.”
“Wait, that’s who you’re here for?” Pearl asked. “Not one of the quartzes?”
“You know,” Peridot reflected, “maybe it would have been a good idea to ask that question before we let a random gem join our illegal top-secret mission.”
Pearl ignored him. “What do you want with Pink Diamond’s pearl?” she asked Rose.
“Erm.” Rose looked stumped. “That’s…classified?”
“We’re not playing by Homeworld rules anymore,” Pearl said, drawing her gem weapons once more. “You agreed to be a part of this mission, so you’d better tell me the truth.”
“Hey, woah, no need for violence!” Rose threw up his hands in surrender. “I kept seeing Pink Diamond really sad without his pearl, so when I overheard you guys talking about Earth, I figured I’d come too! That way I could bring the pearl back and make my diamond happy.”
“You didn’t tell anyone, right?” Pearl asked, stepping closer. “You’re not in contact with anybody from Homeworld?”
“No, no, of course not! Nobody knows I’m here.” Pearl took another step forward, undeterred, and Rose began backing away. “I’m telling the truth, I swear!”
“Pearl, what are you doing?” Peridot asked, his voice betraying his panic.
“Come on, Peri. You don’t find it suspicious that Rose is here for a diamond’s pearl?”
“I suppose, but…” If he was being honest, Peridot thought Rose’s story made sense. He’d never seen Pearl like this before. “I don’t think this is going to help. Please just put the knives away, Pearl, you’re—” You’re scaring me.
“Fine.” Pearl rolled her eyes and let her weapons dematerialize. “But if I find out you were lying, Rose…” She gave Rose a death glare, and Peridot shivered.
“Well, I’m not.” Rose briefly met Peridot’s eyes, but all Peridot could offer him was a helpless shrug. “I just want to find my—my diamond’s pearl. That’s all.”
There was a long, uncomfortable pause before Pearl broke the silence. “I’m taking Peri to see the other gems in the morning,” she said. “You might as well come with us if you want to see Pink Pearl.”
“I never agreed to that,” Peridot said, before he could think better of it.
“Well, there’s always Plan C,” Pearl said. “Where I go out and poof Gri and take him home with us by force.”
Peridot grimaced, imagining Gri’s reaction when he reformed on the ship back to Homeworld. “I don’t think we should try that one.”
“Then it’s decided.” Pearl gave him a dangerous grin, and Peridot shuddered. He was not looking forward to this.
