WIP challenge ask:
:eyes: The title is already making me feel soft and m up for some fluff so "Domesticity is Intimacy Earned" if that's alright!
(though if it does turn out to be angst, I don't mind either lmao)
Oho okay, but this is for the My Roommate is a Detective fandom. Written right about when the show ended, but I ended up getting distracted with uni, so it never progressed past 3 chps lol
Chapter 1 & 2 can be found HERE.
...
(Random snippet from chp 3)
“What are you guys talking about?” Lu Yao’s entrance startles them both. He raises an eyebrow at their fluster and then proceeds to ignore it, “Anyway, I’m done here. I need to go back to the forensic department. Chusheng, are you coming?”
“Ah, no, you can take the car. I’ll follow after we finish taking photographs.”
Youning looks at him with wide eyes as Lu Yao leaves. “Chusheng,” she whispers, “Chusheng?”
Well, that confirms it that Lu Yao hasn’t told her yet. And as usual, he has left it to him.
Chusheng looks back at her calmly. “Yes?”
“Huh,” she says, then swipes her notebook out of his hand. She looks at him consideringly, “No wonder you actually listened to me talk about Lu Yao’s ex-girlfriend.”
He clears his throat, “Now, that’s nothing to do with the case, so–”
“How long?”
“Youning,” he says, exasperated, “calm yourself. Why are you so upset?”
“Upset? Who’s upset, not me, I’m not upset!” She certainly looks upset.
“He would have told you when he felt ready, you can’t demand this of him.”
Youning bites her lips but nods understandingly, “When would that have been though?”
“Now, apparently,” says Chusheng and at her incredulous look, continues, “have you ever heard him say something in a straightforward manner?”

Here's another chance to put another in her place:
You're the new forensic in town. You've heard of the mafia-turned-inspector and his partner, the suspect-turned-consultant. One morning, you get a case. Later that afternoon, three people march into your office: the inspector, the consultant/detective, and a woman with camera.
Your reaction?
*even louder gasp* I GET TO YELL AT BYN?! OH, PRAISE THE LORD, THIS IS GONNA BE FUN
As I stared at the body on the metal gurney, I sighed
‘Oh, this is gonna be a pain in my ass’
Thankfully I was able to use the scale in the office to weigh the body as well as take it’s height but now I had to go through the lovely job of removing the deceased’s clothes
“And it’s just me in here…”
Just then, three people walked into the morgue, a woman with a camera, a pretty tall and lanky looking dude, and another man who looked like he could snap me like a fucking twig if I irritated him
“Can I…help you?”
The man who looked like he could snap me like a twig smiled
“Ah, I’m Inspector Qiao Chusheng, and this is my consultant, Lu Yao”
I then looked at the woman with the camera
“And she is…”
The woman looked at me and smiled, holding out her hand
“Bai Youning. Reporter”
I held up my gloved hands
“I don’t think you want me to touch your hands after I’ve touched this body”
Bai Youning’s eyes widened and she quickly retracted her hand as Qiao Chusheng looked at me
“So, what have we got?”
I huffed
“Buddy, the body just fucking got here, all I did was take his height and weight, I haven’t even fingerprinted him yet. I still have to remove his clothes”
Bai Youning frowned
“But you’re a woman, why are you doing that?”
I huffed
“It’s my fucking job”
I then quickly got to work on unbuttoning the deceased’s shirt, only to find a pretty deep knife wound that I hadn’t seen earlier at the scene, causing Bai Youning to raise her camera to her eye and take a picture
“Oi! Unless you’re a crime scene tech or an investigator, you can’t take pictures”
Bai Youning looked at me and smiled
“Sure I can”
“Fuck no you can’t”
I then reached out and snatched the camera from her hands, causing her, Qiao Chusheng, and Lu Yao to look at me in shock
“Ah! Give that back!”
“No. You’re that gossip reporter, aren’t you? The one that likes to twist cases into stories so that they’ll sell better”
Bai Youning smiled
“So you’ve heard of me”
“Yeah, and I think you’re trash”
The three of them looked at me in shock as I placed the camera down on the bench behind me and began working on removing the rest of the body’s clothes, sticking them in different paper bags
“Ah, I should be getting pictures of this!”
I glared at Bai Youning
“Have some fucking respect for the dead”
Qiao Chusheng and Lu Yao snickered and after I removed all the clothes, I grabbed Bai Youning’s camera and began taking pictures of the body
“Hey! That’s mine!”
“Yeah, well, in my office, it’s mine now”
I continued to take pictures of the body before I looked at Qiao Chusheng
“You seem strong. Can you turn him on his side?”
Qiao Chusheng blinked as I grabbed a pair of gloves and tossed it to him
“Put those on and help me turn the body on its side”
Qiao Chusheng nodded and slipped on the gloves before he helped me turn the body on its side so that I could get back shots
“Hmm…looks like he died on his back…all the blood’s pooled there”
After I took back shots, I walked over to the deceased’s face and looked at Qiao Chusheng
“Can you hold open his eyes, Inspector?”
Qiao Chusheng nodded and walked over to the deceased’s head, holding open the eyes to reveal very bloodshot eyes
“Oh…petechial hemorrhaging…your victim could have been potentially strangled before he was stabbed”
“Ah! Where’s my notebook? I have to write this down!”
Bai Youning then grabbed her notebook, only for me to grab it out of her hands
“You! Give that back!”
I glared at her
“I’m not letting you spin some fucking tale about this victim”
Bai Youning huffed
“I’ll tell father about you”
“Fucking do it. I’m not scared”
Qiao Chusheng made a face
“You should be…”
I looked over at him and raised an eyebrow
“Do I look like the type of person who’s going to be threated by some triad leader?”
“Father will make you sorry!”
I glared at Bai Youning again
“Don’t you have anything better to do? Like write an actually good news story?”
I then pointed to the door of the office
“If you have nothing better to do, then leave”
Bai Youning held out her hand
“Then give me my notebook and camera”
“Sure”
I then opened the camera and took out the roll of film, carefully sticking it in a container before handing back the camera and notebook
“Here”
Bai Youning continued to hold out her hand
“The film too”
I shook my head
“Film’s evidence”
Bai Youning huffed and stamped her foot, making me give her a look
“Acting like a five-year-old isn’t going to get you anywhere in life, you know. Now shoo”
Bai Youning huffed again before she turned and stormed out of the office, Lu Yao and Qiao Chusheng looking after her in shock before they turned to look at me
“No one’s ever stood up to her before”
“Yeah well…I’m not letting her fuck up this case”
I then motioned to the door
“Shut it for me, will ya?”
Lu Yao nodded and shut the door as I sighed
“Just between you and me, this guy is definitely triad or some sort of mafia…he’s got a large tattoo on his back”
Lu Yao and Qiao Chusheng looked at me in shock
“Eh? Why didn’t you say that earlier?”
I motioned to the door with my chin
“You think I was going to let her hear that? Imagine the story she’d spin”
I then quickly grabbed the fingerprinting powder and quickly powered the victim’s fingerprints, making sure to get them properly before I placed them down on the fingerprint form
Once I had the fingerprints, I looked at Lu Yao and Qiao Chusheng
“I’ll let y’all do your thing…let me know if you need anything”
“Ah, wait. We don’t even know your name”
“Sun Tian Li”
I then smiled
“I’m sure we’ll be seeing each other a lot”
I then grabbed my paperwork, evidence, and film roll before I turned and headed out of the morgue to my office, leaving Qiao Chusheng and Lu Yao to theorize over how the victim died

3, 5 & 7 💕
Thanks so much I LOVE these questions!!!
3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?
I think my writing style is very "direct" and "to the point", more shorter fics. I have like one objective or one idea, develop that and that's the fic.
I try to show the characters and their thoughts through the dialogue and body language, rather than extensive descriptions (also because I am unable to lol).
Rather light on the plot side, like there is a storyline but it's more... Scenes strung together like beads to form a collar that kind of make sense than a whole ass planned, fantasy adventure with side quests and stuff, and big reveals. I cannot deal with sad endings, so (one excepted) most of my fics you can expect a happy ending lol.
I try to balance out different emotions in a fic, some moments of tension, some moments of angst, trying to make it funny, some moments of comfort. I do love a good domestic- kind of closeness.
I would say angst is the genre I have the most trouble with. I can only handle so much haha then I have a need to comfort. Smut is also smth not completely easy for me.
What I love the most are satisfying resolutions, where I manage to tie together every kinds of character thoughts, clues and hints that I gave-not necessarily on purpose lmfao.
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
I love allllll my little fics. They're like little pebbles that I collect. Like they're not necessarily the shiniest or the most polished and maybe quite plain for the outside observer, but I like to sift through them and when I hold one up to the light it shines pretty colors and I'm happy to just have it in my collection and be able to look at it y'know?
I will show u some of my little pebbles tho, since that is the question:
I like this Chuyao (Chusheng/Lu Yao from cdrama My Roommate is a detective) fic - Empty space. Because I do feel like I managed to "tie everything together", despite the fact that the writing process was a trainwreck lmfao. Like I started the fic intending Angst (which is why the title sounds the way it does), was unable to finish it for a YEAR and when I returned intending to mark it on hiatus, inspiration came back, the fic made a 180° turn in mood, but still kind of made sense and I loved it.
Also this Xicheng (Lan Xichen/Jiang Cheng from the Untamed) fic called trying to hold on (to you). Idk I just really love the VIBE !? It's like rain and dancing and pain and understanding and comfort. Idk man, I love it.
I am also particularly satisfied with the last fic in the Devil Judge Yohan/Gaon series called New Beginnings. It's like, hope and forgiveness and dealing with the past and moving on to the future and I LOVE IT.
7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?
Descriptions!!! Sometimes I picture a scene sooooooo very clearly, but I just... Don't find the words or the elegant sentences to describe it in a way that satisfies me. I really really admire the writers who can write 100k+ fics and it's not boring and the descriptions are great like how.
That's where I really notice that English isn't my first language, because I know that in my own - thanks to years of mandatory language & literature classes, that I am now very thankful for lmao - I am able to.
I'd love to take that kind of classes for english.
On a tangent, I really really respect translation as a craft because damn, it ain't easy.
Thank you SO MUCH, loved thinking about it 💕, and I hope you have a great day!
