Where I’ve been, and my plans moving forward.
Tumblr media
Hey Tumblr (and hopefully my AO3 readers)…it’s been a minute. And I’m sorry for that, I really am. I wanted to pop on here and give y’all an explanation as to what’s been going on with me and where I’ve been…but for a writer, I’m surprisingly short on stuff to say. So I’m just going to start.
Where I’ve been
It’s been at least a month since I’ve posted (and over a year since I’ve updated my most popular series, The Raven House). And…yeah, I feel bad about that. The short version is, I completely changed my lifestyle. The long version is that I finished my semester of school at the end of May last year and just…didn’t go back. Initially, I decided to work full time for awhile to give myself some time to recover after a bad mental break. But I realized pretty quickly that I didn’t want it to be temporary. I have severe ADHD and anxiety, as well as some health issues that just overall made school miserable for me. At least right now, I’m much more fulfilled and happy with my work. I’m lucky enough to have gotten a good job (really good for someone my age) in an AMAZING work environment and I’m just much happier there.
So what does this have to do with my fics and my blog?
Well, two things. One- I have less time overall. To be honest, a LOT of my works were written while I was spacing out in class. With my job, I don’t have the time or really any reason to space out at my desk- and that really is a good thing! Because secondly, writing was as much a coping mechanism as it was a hobby. When I was posting and writing regularly, a lot of it was pure avoidance. I could stave off my stress by pretending I was being productive when I wrote a new chapter, and I could avoid paying attention to class by researching for my character’s outfits, you know? It made it easier. It was also (depressingly) one of the few places where I could get real positive feedback and praise, which I DESPERATELY needed, but never got (as I was admittedly a terrible student). So I did as much as possible in order to garner pretty much any positive attention. And I am grateful that in those times, I had writing to cope- but I’m also glad that I don’t have to rely on it as much anymore, because it ultimately wasn’t healthy.
Where does this leave me?
I don’t write all this to announce the closing of my account. I promise, this is not me saying goodbye. However, I’m going to be learning how to truly embrace writing as a hobby and how to fit it into my new lifestyle. With that, I’ll be trying to work on more of my original content, which I post separately. I'll also be adjusting my plans for some of my fics. Here’s the list of what I’m planning on going forward.
The Raven House
The Raven House is my most popular work and absolutely one of my favorites. It also takes AGES to write, especially with me having shifted hyper fixations. I won't be pausing or stopping work on it all, but it will continue to take ages. TL;DR: It's not going away, but it'll continue to take a long time and have a very uneven upload schedule. I hope y'all will understand and keep going.
Multimedia
This piece will be discontinued. Honestly, I just have no idea where to go with it and there's not much point in me keeping it going. I think it's a fun concept, but I don't really want to continue it at this time.
Insomnia
Similar to Multimedia, it's a fun concept, but I don't have any ideas or motivation to push forward with it.
Blank Space
This will stay as a one-shot for now. I originally wrote this with plans to have it as a three chapter story, but I'd rather focus my motivation on The Raven House.
Shades Of Lavender
For lack of a better word, I'm considering this piece to be on hiatus. I don't want to say goodbye to this piece or these characters by any means- however it's another that will continue to take AGES. I'll work on it on the side, but I won't be posting it for the foreseeable future.
Purgatory
I'm wrapping up the last pages of this fic! However I'm still deciding if I can really wrap this up with one more chapter.
That's...pretty much all I had to say. I feel like I'm forgetting something. I'll remember later.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to my readers who see this. I understand if you left, but I'm doubly grateful for the ones who stuck around <3

As a friendly reminder of why beta reading is important*, here's a list of stupid shit that @sound-under-the-sea has had to remind me of
The rain on the Boiling Isles boils.
Neither the internet or I speaks fluent French.
Lilith cannot do spells after she splits the curse. Not even for purposes of angst.
Lilith and Eda are almost certainly related to Belos, and a dark au where Lilith is coerced into becoming the Empress is technically incest.
King exists.
Hooty exists.
Adrian Graye is a Coven Head.
Warden Wrath breathes fire.
'Pang' is not spelled with a 't'.
Metal does glow when it melts, you don't need to say it twice.
I use 'and' wayyyyy too much.
If you snatch someone up off the ground, it implies that you're lifting them up. You don't need to say that twice either.
Palismen do not taste like blue raspberry. Or grape. Or banana.
Wooper does not evolve into Quagmire (ok, that one's not fic related, but I had to include it).
Moral of the story? Have someone beta read your shit unless you want to hear this after it's published!
*I am, in fact, very guilty of being too impatient to have someone beta read my shit. That's how shit like this happens ;-;

Shades of Lavender: You Choose!
In chapter two (which will be posted tonight), Darius has an exhibit at a very fancy art show. What should he wear?
Option A:
Tumblr media
Option B:
Tumblr media
Option C:
Tumblr media
Option D:
Tumblr media
Choose carefully! Some important people are going to see this tonight :) If you have another suggestion, feel free to reblog with that.
(Also, I'm 100% over trying to dress this man in the ridiculous fuchsia color of the Abomination Coven. There are NO OPTIONS. NONE. I will forever complain about how stupid it was to make the Oracle Coven's color purple instead of the Abomination Coven, whose core tool is literally purple AGH and yes I understand it's partially my fault for choosing formal wear based on coven color but still)
*deep inhale*
Have fun, and click the link to read the fic!

In the Raven house AU, how you imagine Lilith dress ?
Hi Anon! Thanks for the ask.
Lilith's dress was loosely based on this one I found online.
Tumblr media
I liked this idea, but didn't like all the loose fabric or the short skirt/sleeves. It didn't feel very practical or very Lilith. However, I still wanted her to have that dramatic flair that Boiling Isles dress codes so often seem to entail. I did some more looking and ended up going with this interpretation!

I adore platonic Ravenation so, so much. So much that I wrote an angsty fic for them! 😁
Summary: Lilith gets hurt, Steve is a good friend, and Darius has a lot of feelings.
Shoot me a comment if you read!

Trigger warnings: violence, torture, execution, injury, grief.
Extra credits:
@sound-under-the-sea for beta reading and editing it for me!
@itsnicsalad who I stole the platonic ship name ‘ravenation’ from, lol.

Welcome to my Tumblr!
Hi guys! My name's Lyn, also known as LynNyx or WhothefelsewantedtobeLynNyx. This is the blog where I'll be keeping up with my series, works, and friends from AO3.
Who I am
I’m a budding author and part-time fanfiction writer. My current focus is The Owl House! You may know me from works on AO3 such as:
The Raven House (A TOH Swap AU)
Insomnia
The Red Herring In The Tea Leaves
Ground Zero
And more! (for anyone new, check me out here!)
Why I’m setting up a new Tumblr.
I recognize that a lot of you follow me for content that only comes out every couple months. I want to interact with you guys more than that, and give you more content than that! That’s why I’m creating this blog. On Tumblr, I’ll be able to post more often and post more unique content, including:
Worldbuilding
Art
Answered questions
Updates and timelines
Shorts and mini-fics
Sneak peeks
Other related content, such as incorrect quotes postings or little facts that I’m not able to work into the story
I’ll also be able to interact with my amazing, amazing audience more! I’ll be answering asks, doing Q&As (both in character and out) and just generally chatting with y’all. Every once in awhile, I may open up a poll, prompt, or some other kind of interactive post- like the one where OCs can be featured in The Raven House.
Rules
I have some ground rules and boundaries that I’d like everyone to please respect, for the sake of myself and others.
I do not proship, nor do I allow discussion of proshipping when it pertains to my works. Here’s a link to the post where I discuss my reasoning on my other blog. My main concern when it comes to this rule is my work ‘Shades of Lavender’, but it still stands in regards to my other works.
I will not tolerate hate in my comments. Full stop.
I’m writing this just before the release of For The Future, and I’m sure you all know of the leaks from the episode. I am lucky enough to have the privilege of being able to watch the episode legally and supporting Dana and her team. While I recognize that not everyone has that as an option, I ask that we try and avoid spoilers here, both with regards to the upcoming release and when the final episode comes out (because we’re 0/2 so far on managing not to get leaked, and I don’t love the chances)
I don’t do NSFL stuff, which in my definition includes:
Incest or pseudo-incest/found family incest
Vore
Graphic or detailed rape/non-con
Any form of underage character/adult character shipping
When it comes to 18+ stuff, I do occasionally create and discuss smut works. However, it will be clearly marked and closely monitored. I also do not create 18+ stuff involving underaged or aged up characters (where they’re aged up for the sake of making smut legal).
Be patient with me, please. I’m a full time student with a part time job. This is my hobby and I love it, but I don’t have the luxury of spending as much time as I’d like on it. Sometimes projects will come out late or take ages to update. If that happens, know that I’m doing the best I can to create the best project I can.
Anything else?
Don’t hesitate to shoot me an ask or a DM if you’re more comfortable with that! I’m always happy to chat. To celebrate the start of this new blog, I’ll be running an AMA for the next day or so! Feel free to shoot me any questions about me or my works that you’d like to ask, and I’ll get back to you ASAP!

Best friend: You know that thing artists do when they mimic the facial expression they’re drawing? Do writers do something like that?
Me, looking up from the angst I’m writing with tears streaming down my face: Sorry, did you say something?

Fictional
They aren’t real, people say. Fictional characters aren’t real people. They’re figments of our imagination, fleeting mental images on a page. They’re an emotional crutch, used to teach little ones about the harsh realities of the world through the lense of fantasy (so that the idea of fighting for or sacrificing your life at the tender age of 12 seems more like a wonderful adventure than a dystopian helltrope).
But they seem to forget that we define real. We look at these people who we can’t see or touch and say no. Because they don’t exist on the level I do, they don’t exist.
But how many of us have cried in movies? Or laughed at snarky lines that the classic tough side character drops, or cheered when the bad guy finally fell? The truth is, these characters are real. Maybe they aren’t people in our day to day lives, maybe they aren’t truly our friends or parents or lovers. But we laugh with them, love with them, cry with them. We feel their triumphs and we feel their pain, all through the power of human imagination and some well placed words.
And maybe, just maybe, we go home at the end of the day and feel a little bit of them in us. Maybe they guide us to finally kiss that one special person in our lives, or make that wonderful, crazy decision that reason had us putting off. Or maybe we come home one day in pain, lost, confused or angry. Their pain follows us there too, like a phantom weight pressed comfortingly against our back, reminding us we aren’t alone. And when we reread the pages where they heal, maybe we start to heal a little too.
So maybe fictional characters don’t start off real. Maybe they can’t even be counted as real. But we are. And through us, so are they.
