How do you manage to keep a neighborhood fresh and interesting to play for a long time? All your hoods are so well-established and have generations of sims to draw upon, and I lose interest with a hood in like, two. Maybe three.

First of all, I’m not certain that what you say is true. Drama Acres has representatives of several generations, but many of the first sims I created for it are still alive. Widespot was created with all age stages except toddler and infant (and those coming along soon!) and a tolerably complete backstory. Both of these hoods are likely to seem older than they are. I might get bored by the third generation, too, if I could tell what a generation was; there’s no way to know at this point.

I have the advantage of knowing my own tastes tolerably well. I’ve been an avid consumer and producer of stories since before I could read. I know what I like,  I know what I want to include when making a story, I know what I can’t include if I do it professionally so need to make room for when working outside of the publishing industry. I focus on characterization and let the characters drive the plot, and I am fascinated by the way lives interact in a community, watching the effects of events in one household and the decisions made by one person ripple out into the larger world. I’m constantly interpreting sim behavior, nudging it in key places that I know will give Story a chance to happen, and prepared to follow up on the Better Ideas that properly developed characters will always throw in your way, if you let them.

Another thing that keeps me coming back is that no two households are played the same way, just as no two real-life households are alike. Different characters are played by different informal rulesets (written rulesets would kill it for me) based on what I “know” about them. They are all constantly changing, too. So I’ll have one frantically busy house full of kids, teens, and toddlers followed by a restful old couple; and the restful old couple used to be a hotbed of juicy drama. My habitual one-day rotations also prevent me from spending so long with a household that I get bored. If I get bored anyway, it’s time to change something. Why play a game if you’re bored? If you want to be bored, that’s what day jobs and James Bond movies are for. 

But that’s me. I still haven’t done a lot of things in this game - not one top-level business, not one gold badge in any crafting station, not one werewolf, and so on. I’ll do all that eventually, probably. But I’m not goal-directed when it comes to the game. What you need to do is figure out what you’re most interested in, and learn to provide it for yourself.

Anyway, who says there’s anything wrong with playing a neighborhood for one or two generations and then moving on? The only wrong way to play is the way you don’t enjoy.

I have half answered this one to you on private; but no, i don’t plan to re-make the protagonists of that story for the neighbourhood, because i’m sane enough to know that would destroy the little mental heath i have. But already figured a way around it.

I don’t know why I did this but I installed Linux on my computer. Ts2 runs beautifully and with some fierce beating, SimPE works. I got photoshop CS2 to work, the dinosaur, while the newer version of photoshop currently refuse.

ts2 actually runs faster on this then it did on my windows. no lag when browsing sims or when the game generates a sim, and when using simpe i get no wait time at all when opening object workshop. so that’s neat.

i just can’t survive without photoshop LOL

ngl i just find smooth hands and sexy feet super uncanny valley

...if you'd read past the first sentence, you'd've known that's not remotely what the post was about. I'm trying to add sexyfeet to a huge batch of maxis match meshes and most of them are done in a way that makes the standard delete-below-knee-import-feet-DONE method NOT WORK.

I don't give two shits what you do in your game. I was just venting about how difficult some maxis match meshers make it for me to get MY game the way I want it.

I've been at this all weekend and then some, and have had to ditch several GOOD EF underwear meshes because I couldn't make the feet line up with the fatmorph without completely redoing the fatmorphs on them. So I'm a little short on patience right now.
