I wanna say something and all I ask is that you read the whole thing before burning me at the stake.

There are always horrible things happening. There are always ppl who are suffering and dying. There are always corrupt politicians. There are always human rights violations. There are always tragedies. There is always misinformation and exploitation. War is always looming on the horizon or busting in the back gate. The world is always fucked up.

That fact does not mean that the lives affected matter any less than our own. It does not mean that we don't do what we can to help. It does mean that we cannot afford to put our lives on hold while a horrible thing consumes us.

I'm sure that, if your parent/sibling/partner/best friend had a medical emergency, you would gladly do whatever you needed to do to be there. I'm sure that you would sacrifice sleep, skip meals, call in to work, and be by their side until they were stable. You can afford to do that when those emergencies are infrequent and relatively brief.

You cannot do that with the world's emergencies. They are not infrequent. They are not relatively brief. You have to sleep, eat and shower. You have to pay your bills. You have to survive.

Daily life goes on.

It feels unjust. Of course it does. How can you possibly go about the mundane like nothing's going on? You Don't. You go about the mundane like there are horrible things happening. You make the adjustments you can sustain without sacrificing your well-being. You make drastic changes for as long as you can, when you simply can't take it anymore, and then you step back, take a breath, and go grocery shopping. You have to. If you don't, you won't survive the horrible thing.

No one who is going thru a horrible thing wants you to self-destruct. There's so much good you can do over the course of your life if you maintain that life. Adding your name to the list of casualties will prevent all of that good from happening. You have to survive.

And that includes the things that seem optional, bc those things aren't actually optional at all. You need to laugh. You need to watch movies and love your pets and go for walks. You need food that tastes good and clothes that make you feel confident. You need that show you'll regret not seeing. You need to get takeout and take naps. You need to have the weight lifted frequently, so you can heal the parts of you that get worn.

If you aren't living as well as you can, while making adjustments you can afford to make, you will not survive.

Please survive.

For how much Machete is described by others as off-putting, he really is a beautiful dog. Does Vasco ever tell him so? That his eyes make him look earnest, his fur the most comforting shade of white like cream, the way his ears catch light like stained glass? If someone doesn't tell him so, he'd forever think he was ugliest duckling

I think Vasco definitely tries, sincerely and often, but Machete is very reluctant to accept compliments and positive feedback. Especially if it's about something as personal and innate as his looks.

#he quietly spends a lot of time and effort trying to make himself look his best so appearances aren't a trivial thing for him #he's always very clean and neat and presentable #except on those occasions when he's soaked in blood but that's totally besides the point #white fur is kind of high maintenance any tiny bit of dirt or staining becomes an eyesore and if it dries it may be hard to remove #he bathes very frequently way more than average considering the time period #some of the outfits he wears are worth more than the combined lifetime earnings of like six generations of his family #silk was outrageously expensive and the brightest red dye came from pulverized cochineal insects that had to be imported from America #which had been colonized less than a century ago so those tiny little cactus bugs were really troublesome to get and the demand was huge #he doesn't quite have the nerve to wear perfume despite it's widespread popularity at the time #but he makes sure the smell of frankincense burned during church services sticks to his fur and clothes #in general when you spend your entire life around strict emotionally congested highly religious men #you might not end up developing a very healthy self-esteem or body image #once you've internalized that sense of inferiority it's hard to unlearn it #he's so thirsty for approval and praise but when he receives some he immediately gets uncomfortable and distrustful and vaguely angry #he absolutely struggles to compliment people back as well at least on any meaningful and personal level so there's that #answered #anonymous #Machete

A Grand Trunk Western plow extra is working its way toward Caseville, Michigan out of the yard in Pontiac. This "78" winter saw a lot of snow and this drift prone line along farm fields saw lots of plow action. Here working north near sunset at Kingston on February 4, 1978 with CN GP38 5528 and GTW GP9 as power.

#as with every other thing #I haven't properly sat down to work on consent #it's been worked into a lot of maintenance things but isn't followed strictly bc stuff needs to happen one way or another #I am very happy with how much of her grooming is restraint free #she hates baths but will still jump in the tub #she's wiggly for the dryer but it's because she presses herself up against the nozzle #our only real issue is nail trims #she gets scooped for those and I don't blame her #she's pretty good for teeth brushing too #anyways this is a fun behaviour because she has now pawed for continued pets #where as she used to only paw when she wanted to be under a blanket #turnpike #gifset #I love little pointless posts about my little dog <3 #cooperative care

#like it looks really bad to us but this is not a harmful process (if done right) and is. very helpful to the animals in question actually #I've seen the “aliens think cutting hair is like insanely painful” thing before but I don't think I've seen an elaboration on. why. #like. fur sheds??? if there's fuzzy aliens or whatever it has to be atleast somewhat known this occurs #I can understand like. a scaled alien equating this to something like a violent ripping off of skin or something #but I. struggle to imagine an alien with fur coming to a similar conclusion #so I like to imagine hair cutting is only perceived as painful because the method itself to do it is seen as unnecessarily violent #like. why are you doing that??? your head fur should just fall out when it's ready to?? you're going to damage your coat??? #and even then it's probably more of like. if you saw someone use a chainsaw to cut their nails. kind of reaction. #it's more. this is violent and potentially extremely painful and also there are better ways to do this specific thing. #saying stuff #i think. #humans are space orcs #I think I forgot to explain the hoof maintenance/horn trimming connection #basically it's like. logically yeah this looks better but it's seen as painful/even if you know this helps them it seems like it hurts
