No blog concerning British character actors of the golden age could start anywhere other than here.
Marianne Stone
23 August 1922 – 21 December 2009
Marianne Stone has a whopping 271 credits listed on her IMDB page beginning with the 1943 Arthur Askey musical comedy Miss London Ltd. through to the poorly received Eric Sykes comedy series The Nineteenth Hole in 1989.
Stone featured in every kind of movie but comedy was where you'd find her most often from the sixties on.
Some of her stand out credits include 1948's Brighton Rock, Seven Days to Noon in 1950, Yield tonthe Night in 1956, minor classic Hell Drivers from 1957, Vivien Darkbloom in Lolita in 1962. I could go on for a lot longer but I'll just add two Quatermass' and nine Carry Ons and leave this link.
For what it's worth my personal favourite Stone appearances are in two episodes of TV series Public Eye as a secretary that Frank Marker enjoys a flirtatious couple of scenes with. The episodes are It's a Woman's Privilege and Who Wants to Be Told Bad News.

We did what girls do. Kissed. Took baths together. I was madly in love with Anita. She was so gorgeous. The one time we began to make love we were interrupted in flagrante by Mick and Keith. We were upstairs at Anita and Keith's house, caressing each other and kissing on the bed and in the middle of our lovemaking Mick and Keith walked in. Mick's attitude was, "Let's join 'em." But Keith put a stop to it right away. There's quite an old-fashioned side to him.
