We Fell in Love in October, Chapter one - October 1st: The Deal
Shout-out to @gaelic-symphony for beta reading for me
Summary: It's October, and Emily Prentiss doesn't feel like being single for unofficial "lesbian month." What happens when she asks her friend, Tara Lewis, to be her girlfriend for the month? Will it last longer, or will a beautiful friendship meet its bitter end?
Word count: 1266
Can also be read here on Ao3
"Happy lesbian month," Emily Prentiss muttered as she slid down the wall to sit next to her friend, Tara Lewis, as they ate lunch.
Tara looked up from her psychology textbook questioningly. "It's October? Not June?"
"Exactly. We Fell in Love in October. Girl in Red."
"Oh, right. You know, for a lesbian, you don't seem too thrilled about it being 'lesbian month.'"
"I'm single, Tara. A-fucking-gain. I want someone to fall in love with me during October!"
"Okay, felt," Tara admitted.
That was when Emily got an idea. A terrible idea. A wonderful idea. A dangerous idea. This described most of her ideas. "Okay, hear me out…"
Tara groaned. "Emily, you are my friend, and you know I love you, but nothing good ever comes of you saying 'hear me out.' Ever."
"No, this isn't that bad, I promise!"
"Okay," Tara relented. She had never been good at stopping herself from being roped into Emily's shenanigans. It was something about the other girl's charm. "Let me hear it."
"So, you know how we dated for August first so that neither of us would be single for National Girlfriend Day?"
"Yes…" Tara said, unsure as to where Emily was going with this.
"So what if we dated for October so neither of us are single for lesbian month?"
Tara's eyes went wide. "Emily… you do realize that there is a huge difference between a day and a month, right?"
"Yeah, so? It'll be fun!"
"You have been reading way too much fanfiction."
"There is no such thing. Catradora and Tardarcy are my everything."
Tara shook her head, laughing. "You are insane. Seriously. This is not a good idea. Dating for a month? The chances of actual feelings coming out of that are high, that's basic psychology. What do we do if that happens? I don't want to lose my friend because we were both lonely touch-starved gays who wanted to live out a lesbian fanfiction."
"If that happens then at the end of the month we'll have an actual discussion on if we want this to continue like the mature almost-adults we are."
As sudden as this was, Emily seemed to have thought through the consequences, at least briefly. Tara didn't really have another argument other than I'm already in love with you, and this will absolutely destroy me if you don't end up feeling the same way, but she didn't exactly feel like saying that at the moment. With a sigh, she gave in. "Fine. Yes. Okay. Let's do it. I will be your girlfriend for October."
Emily's face lit up. "Really?"
"Yes," Tara replied, reaching over to take one of Emily's fries.
Emily slapped her hand away. "Hey, what?"
"A good girlfriend would share her fries, Emily," Tara teased, shoving a handful of fries into her mouth.
"Oh fuck you," Emily teased back.
"That's very forward of you, Emily Prentiss. I didn't realize you were that kind of girl."
Emily's face went bright red. "I– that's not what I– can we just agree that for the purposes of maintaining our friendship… that won't happen?"
"Oh no, obviously it won't," Tara agreed. "I was just teasing."
"Okay." Emily stole one of Tara's chicken nuggets.
Tara's jaw dropped. "Oh you did not."
"A good girlfriend would share her chicken nuggets, Tara."
***
"Tara," Luke admonished.
"I know," Tara groaned into her hands. As soon as she had gotten to class she had spilled the details of her deal with Emily and their new relationship to Luke Alvez and Matt Simmons, her best friends. "I know, it was stupid, but I just…"
"Couldn't say no?"
"I couldn't say no."
"Tell me why I'm not surprised," Matt said.
"Because you've known me for years and know I am in fact a useless lesbian who becomes absolutely stupid when a pretty girl even smiles at her?"
He laughed. "Yeah, that's about it."
"It's okay," Luke said, shoving her playfully. "We still love you."
"Oh you're one to talk," Tara said.
"What do you mean?"
"You think you're much better when a certain captain of the coding club even breathes in your direction?"
His face went noticeably darker by a few shades. "Shut up," he whispered.
It was at that moment that said captain of the coding club, Penelope Garcia, walked into the room. "Hey, Matt. Tara." She faux-sneered at Luke. "Newbie." He hadn't even been the new kid for years, but she called him that and it stuck, and he secretly loved that she had a special nickname for him.
"Chica," he returned with a smirk.
Penelope rolled her eyes and kept walking.
Matt had to stop himself from bashing his head on the table. "I need new friends."
***
"Oh, Emily, you didn't," Derek Morgan laughed.
"I did."
"I'm impressed. I didn't realize you had it in you. Hey, Pretty Boy," Derek called to Spencer Reid as he sat down beside the pair. "Want to fall in love with me this October?"
He laughed. "Derek, we've been dating for three years now. You can stop using pick-up lines on me." Spencer was a year younger than the rest of them, but wicked smart, so he'd been bumped up a grade.
"Never," Derek said, with a kiss on his boy's cheek.
"Gay people disgust me," Emily said, averting her eyes.
"Emily, babes, we've talked about the self-loathing," Jennifer "Call me JJ" Jareau said as she sat down behind her best friend.
"Derek and Spencer are being gross again."
"You're just saying that because you're sad you're single," JJ told her.
"Actually…" Derek said, a cheeky grin on his face.
JJ gasped. "Emily! Do you have something to tell me?"
Emily relayed the whole story back to JJ, who sat there shaking her head the whole time.
"When I told you to do something about your crush on Tara, I did not mean propose the plot of a rom-com," the blonde said. "I meant ask to get coffee or something over lunch break. Jesus, Emily. Are you always this extra?"
"JJ, do you know me at all?"
JJ let out a small snort of a laugh. "Fair enough. So what are you going to do?"
"Well I can't exactly back out now. I'll just take it one day at a time. See where it goes. Enjoy the time I have with her, even if it's temporary."
"Simp, " Derek teased.
"Says the man who sat through the entirety of Star Trek with me while I added my own commentary because someone picked on me in the cafeteria one day," Spencer pointed out.
"Boy, shut your mouth."
Spencer grinned, cheekily. "Hmm, no, I'm good."
Emily groaned. She loved her friends, but sometimes their flirting could get a little much. "Get a room or shut up. Please."
"Technically," Spencer said. "A classroom is a room."
Emily glared at him. "I am giving you three seconds to rescind that comment."
"Comment rescinded."
"Yeah, that's what I thought."
***
"So, as your girlfriend for the next month, at least," Tara said when she showed up at Emily's locker at the end of the day. "Is it my job to walk you home at the end of the day?"
"Well you don't have to, but I certainly wouldn't complain," Emily replied.
Tara extended her hand. "Well then, shall we go, m'lady?"
Emily placed her hand in Tara's. "We shall."
When Tara dropped Emily off at her house, she also dropped a kiss on the back of Emily's hand. "See you tomorrow, girlfriend." Emily grinned and fought to keep herself standing. "See you tomorrow." Oh she was so incredibly fucked.

Also this
Top 10 audition songs:
Mustang sally - OMG Roderick’s voice is amazing. He has a sound that no one else in Glee club before him has ever had. Perfect audition song for him. I love Hummelberry’s facial expressions and the Holy Trinity.
My man - Ok so I don’t like Rachel’s voice a lot of the time but whenever she goes to her roots and sings broadway it’s always amazing. She blows it out of the park and deserves all the praise. She is definitely a great Fanny Brice.
Not the boy next door - ICONIC. Those pants, the range in his voice. Really great song for Kurt. He is also someone who should sing broadway more often (he’s destined for it no matter how hard it may be for him to get gigs). The whole NYADA storyline for him was a slap in the face but this audition stands as one of his best solos.
Being alive - ok you don’t often see Kurt do a park and bark (the other one off the top of my head is I have nothing.) He really really delivers with this song and idk how Chris finds the emotion to pull this stuff off. Rachel’s a emotional performer but it always leans towards fake but this just seems so real and raw. He pulled all his emotions from being in New York and loosing Blaine and loosing the supportive family environment of the Hudson-Hummels into this song.
And I’m telling you I’m not going - ok, so a fully live performance. Spine chilling. Mercedes has superior belting power and vocals.
Spotlight - a softer side to Mercedes. She starts taking no shit in season 3. I am here for her not taking a backseat to Rachel no more.
Blow me (one last kiss) - I love me a Marely and Unique duet. Their friendship is great and it’s just starting with this duet. It murders!
Home - the creepy incest twins have great voices. I love the set out of this song and how it tells a narrative story at the same time.
New York state of mind - introduction to Marely, introduction to Brochel. They both slap and Marely definitely gives the best audition song (one time I agree with Schue)
Some people - ok, love Kurt’s outfit. Bringing back the Gypsy musical. He has fun with the choreography. The song has a weird beat but it does work for Kurt.

Take me out to the ball game.
Tumblr media
A/N So…  This is the result of me being sad over Opening Day being postponed, the MLB livestreaming game 7 of 2016 WS when my Cubs won, and having watched yesterday the episode where Rossi talks about this and puts up the W in his office wall *cries thinking about it* (I thrive everytime David Rossi of Criminal Minds or Nick Miller of New Girl make a reference about the Chicago Cubs lmao) Also in my head the Simmons family are huge Nationals fans just for the sake of the story lmao. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it.
Summary: It’s MLB’s Opening Day and since the Cubs are playing against the Nationals, Rossi invites the whole BAU fam to the Nats Park. (Please remember I suck at summaries)
Pairing: I guess there’s a little Spencer Reid x SSA (y/n) (y/l/n) there but it is mostly bonding time between the BAU fam.
Warnings: None.
Masterlist
“Well, this isn’t Wrigley Field but at least our Cubbies are playing” (y/n) said to David as they got to their seats.
It was MLB’s Opening Day and David had invited everyone to go and see his beloved Cubs playing against the Nationals, he was particularly excited that he finally had another Cubs fan in the team. They were both wearing Cubs jerseys and hats.
“Aren’t you supposed to be on the field playing? There’s enough of you to be a team” Prentiss teased the Simmons family, who were proudly wearing Nationals gear, all six of them had jerseys, even little Rose Mary.
“Very funny, Em, but actually we’re incomplete, there are nine team members on the diamond” Matt said with a laugh.
“Better start working on triplets then” Will said while he and JJ put sunscreen on their boys.
“Not a chance” Kristy was quick to answer braiding Lily’s hair.
The whole BAU family was there, even though not all of them were baseball fans, they felt it would be a good memory attending Opening Day all together.
“I have an extra Cubs hat if anyone wants it, maybe you Luke, come to your senses, come on” (y/n) teased Luke and he jokingly gasped while adjusting his Yankees hat.
“Haha, very funny, (y/l/n)”
“I’ll take it” Spencer, who was conveniently sitting next to her,  spoke and everyone hid their smirks, they knew he was doing it so he could impress (y/n), truth was he didn’t know much about sports, he had been busy with his lectures so he couldn’t do proper research on the sport but he was willing to learn as the game progressed.
“Yes! That’s the attitude, Spence” She happily gave it to him.
“Usually I’m more into hockey and football but this could be nice” JJ thought the weather was beautiful and the atmosphere at the park was nice.
“Wait, till this lasts 4 hours or more” Kristy joked with wide eyes.
“What!?”
“This is the king of sports and now I could finally prove it to you” Rossi was ecstatic being there.
“I love you, Dave but if this goes on for more than three hours I’ll leave you up to it and I’ll go to the house, or anywhere else”
“Yup, I want to tag along if that does happen” Penelope chimed in and Luke laughed.
“Count me in, I’m mainly here for the food and the beer” Emily added with a beer already on her hand.
“Amen to that” Tara was also holding a beer and putting on her sunglasses.
“I want a hot dog!” Michael got hungry at the mention of food.
“Sure, buddy, I’ll go grab you one”
“I’ll go with you, the kids also will want food any second now” Matt was quick to follow Will and soon Tara, Emily and (y/n) joined them to buy snacks for the rest of the team.
Soon they were back with a lot of food and drinks for all nineteen of them.
They all chatted about different things, they were seated in two rows so that they weren’t that far from each other, the game started and Matt, David and (y/n) were immediately lost in the game, the three of them talking about what their teams were doing good and what they could work on.
Kristy noticed Spencer was a little bit anxious, he moved his foot and every other minute he looked at (y/n), probably wishing he knew something about baseball so he could talk to her.
“First game, Spence?” She bounced Rose who was sitting in her lap.
“Uh, yeah” He turned to her and little Rose who was having the time of her life with a foam finger, that was almost as big as her, his uncle Dave had bought for her.
“Do you want to know more about how baseball works?” She offered and Spencer nodded desperately.
“Ok, so…”
And so Kristy began to explain to Spencer everything she had learned of the sport from her dad, brothers and Matt, she enjoyed watching the games before she started dating Matt but when they started dating, Matt’s love for it rubbed off on her.
It was the middle of the fourth inning and the Presidents race was happening, the kids were excited to see it. Soon JJ and Will had their sons on their shoulders, Matt had Jake, Luke had David, Kristy had Chloe and (y/n) had Lily while Penelope carried a happy Rose.
The scene of all of them cheering on the presidents was adorable, Krystall decided to take a video to capture the scene. The race ended and the kids were on their seats again talking about how cool it was to see the presidents run.
“I want my own giant foam caricature head” A tipsy Emily declared “Let’s all make our own foam heads and have a BAU race, woo!” She screamed and everyone laughed.
“It’s a good thing she didn’t drive here” Penelope said still holding Rose.
“I’ll take her home, I’m taking Spence too” (y/n) offered as she noticed a very quiet Spencer “Are you having fun?”
“Uh, yeah, this is nice, it’s my first baseball game but Kristy helped me out understanding the rules” Reid nodded as he ran a hand through his hair nervously.
“That’s great, you should’ve told me and I could’ve explained it to you on our way here”
“Don’t worry, it’s ok” His smile made (y/n) melt, his eyes looked particularly beautiful with the sunlight above them.
“Maybe it was best that Kristy explained it to you, I can get intense as I’m sure you noticed”
“I would say you’re passionate and it’s… It’s- really nice to see you talk about something you’re so passionate about, you know, besides work” He looked at her with a shy smile on his lips and noticed she was blushing, as she was going to say something Lily tapped on her shoulder.
“Aunt (y/n), are you gonna sing with me the baseball song?” She asked with a sweet voice.
“Of course, I’ll do that, maybe uncle Spencer can sing with us too” He looked terrified because he had no idea what they were talking about “We’re going to teach you a song so you can sing it with us during the middle of the 7th, ok?” More than asking, (y/n) was informing him he was going to sing with them and he nodded.
Soon  it was the 7th inning stretch and everyone were on their feet ready to sing, while Emily and Penelope didn’t know all of the lyrics they did their best, the rest of them happily sang “Take me out to the ball game”, Reid had Lily in his arms as she and (y/n) waved their arms in the air to the rhythm of the baseball classic.
“Take me out to the ballgame, take me out with the crowd, buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks, I don’t care if I ever get back, let me root, root, root for the home team, if they don’t win, it’s a shame, for it’s one, two, three strikes you’re out at the old ball game”
At the end of the game the Nationals had won, leaving the Simmons family, especially the kids very happy, so David and (y/n) weren’t that sad their team had lost if it meant the little ones being happy.
The rest of the gang was also happy at how the day had turned out, as they expected they had a great time, after all, it wasn’t everyday they were able to do this kind of things all of them together.

All on The Prince’s Seal / Ch. IX
Tumblr media
[ Masterlist ]
“I’d like to keep this chat on the shorter side, so pardon me if I get straight to the point, sir.”
With a single sentence, Atwood confirmed most of the general impression Luke had gotten of the man from meetings and what his father and sister had said about the long-serving head of national security when they had been alive. The neat, orderly fashion Atwood’s office was decorate—no personal items on the desk, and only framed pictures of him with other high-ranking officials on the wall for colour—told the rest. Formal introductions and meetings aside, Luke had never had a chance to talk to Atwood; this wasn’t an ideal circumstance for their first talk one-on-one (well, one-on-one save for Mr Rossi for security), but it was the inevitable one.
Luke gestured the man to continue.
Atwood gave something between a nod and a bow before looking at his hands and speaking again. “You’ve seen the news. There’s an… unrest with the people towards the crown. Most people aren’t aware of what exactly would happen if the royal family simply ceased to exist, I think I would have to check my books as well on that. I don’t think Valosian laws were written thinking there would never come a situation where the entire family would die all at once outside of the realm of an all-out war.”
The way Luke’s family’s death was passed over in the sentence happened quickly, emotionlessly, in a way Luke could almost presume Atwood had practised. Luke couldn’t help a small intake of breath at the coldness of it—Atwood’s face reacted with compassion as soon as he noticed—but had to be appreciative of. There was a reason he’d been asked here, with Rossi instead of Matt, and Luke wanted to get to it. There’d be time for sentimentality later.
Over the passing month, it’d become easier and easier to slip into a public persona even outside of the view of the press and the public—it was quick, cheap, and no doubt transparent to someone who had seen as much politics as Walter Atwood, but it worked enough to conceal emotional unrest in the face of something he needed to do—or at the very least gave the message that that was the goal. “It’d automatically put the nation in the state of national emergency.” I’m okay. Let’s proceed.
There was a flicker of uncertainty before Atwood continued again. “Yes, I mentioned that in the conference—when was it, week, two ago?” A small pause, despite the rhetorical nature of the question. “Doesn’t matter. What matters is, yes, you’re correct, it would start a state of national emergency. Back in the day, our founders and friends just presumed you would die in an assassination or another violent act, and that would start a war, so the power should move to the defence department to decide how to act. The point is, nobody knows what would happen then with the bloodline..” Atwood picked up his pen, opening his palms, never gesturing more than wrist-up as he spoke. “And Valosia has been pretty damn lax about what makes royal blood royal—what with your grandfather being adopted and all these other workarounds—to specifically avoid this problem. And we found ourselves it being one goddamn cartoon banana peel away from that being reality now.”
The laugh Luke let out wasn’t a cheerful one. Atwood was being honest—brutally so, yes, but people had been dancing around the topic so gingerly Luke almost appreciated someone laying out the situation bare like this, even if it brought no comfort. And yet, at the same time as the facts settled and took root in his mind, it became harder to not feel the temptation to distance himself from the situation as to not feel the dread towards the consequences Atwood was detailing for him.
It wasn’t the first time the topic had crossed his mind, but it was the first time it stood so clearly before him: the day Teresa had died, it had become Luke’s first and foremost duty to his country to not die for as long as he was alone.
“Your health is the only thing keeping Valosia from the edge of a constitutional crisis.”
“...Yes.” Atwood had made his point.
“Now, I don’t suppose you’ve had much time to think about marriage and kids in the middle of all this, your Majesty.” It was more a statement of the obvious fact than it was a question—Luke gave a sharp shake of his head. “Yeah, I thought so. And no one expects you to—no one sensible, anyway, tabloids be damned—but until you do, until there’s a next something who could replace you if something happened to you, and I assure you I am strictly speaking as a cog in the government machine here, I am going to have to ask you to increase security, starting with forming a new Kingsguard.”
It was now clearer why Atwood had insisted Rossi to join him and Matt be given the day off. From their last conversation, Luke had gotten the impression the man wanted to talk to them both; Matt would, it seemed, have his chat separately. Rossi, on the other hand, had been the head of the Kingsguard—title preserved from older generations that currently served as the name of the bodyguards surrounding the King—when Luke’s father had been King, and a coordinator for forming the same for Teresa.
Mr Rossi had not said a word, but Luke could tell he’d started to pay attention to the matter more visibly as opposed to pretending he wasn’t hearing it.
“You don’t think I should wait until closer to my coronation?”
“Absolutely not,” Atwood responded with a sharpness Luke hadn’t heard from the man before, “there’s enough unrest as it is. We’ll officiate the new Kingsguard in a week, max two. Until then, one man with you, constantly—when you’re outside, at least one man on your person and another one in civilian clothing surveying the situation, and that’s on top of your current arrangements.”
Luke could see where Atwood was coming from: from a strictly defensive standpoint, what the man was saying made sense. It just wasn’t the only angle he needed to consider. “No.”
“Excuse me?”
“You said it—there’s too much unrest. If a reason for that, even partially, is that people are afraid I might die at any given moment, visibly adding security is going to show that there’s reason to be scared.”
“Is there not, in your opinion?”
Luke ignored the thinly veiled mockery. “My sister died because of a protest gone wrong. It would have not been prevented with more guards—all it would have done is added more people to the body count. There’s time for that later when people have grown used to my presence.”
Atwood considered it for a moment. “I see.” A pause as he studied Luke’s expression. “I do have to insist on the extra security until we have an idea of what we want the Kingsguard to be, and then we’ll discuss on the timing.”
Luke nodded in response.
“You clearly have a preference for Simmons to fulfil some of those tasks—if he is willing to accept these new conditions, I have no problem with that. I’ll talk with him later when it is more timely—until then, I’d wish you’d coordinate with Mr Rossi on the specifics of how your undercover bodyguard will be arranged and who it will be; I’m sure you agree Simmons is too public of a figure to pull that off convincingly by now. Now, I understand you have the engagement party to attend...”
“I do—and thank you, I will.” There was an air of the conversation coming to an end, and Luke stood up, rebuttoning his suit jacket, and taking a step away from the chair.
In a series of small, polite nods and vague goodbyes, Luke made his way to the door, only stopping when Atwood’s voice spoke again from behind him.
“Your Majesty. One more suggestion, if I may...” Luke turned his head to face him. “You know, those dating apps are hugely popular now—...”

GARVEZ STORIES
TANGO DEL PECADO
The man takes a listless sip of his beer, then pulls out what torments him. -I think Penelope cheats on me.- two pairs of eyes stare at him as if a second nose had popped up on his forehead.
The first to react is the one with Asian features. -What?- he waits, hoping the other says it's just a joke. -Luke, did you lose your brain?- but the Latin agent doesn't seem to want to laugh at all.
Fortunately, the other gives him strength. -Yes, friend, it's the stupidest thing you've ever said.- but he gets no reply. -And you've fired some great bullshit since we met.- Luke senses that his friends have not understood the gravity of the situation. Of course, he himself struggled a lot even to accept this possibility, but he is a profiler, he has to put together the data he has and face what goes with it.
-Guys, please, I'm serious.- he looks at them one by one. -When we don't have a case, she's never home.- he starts to explain. -She comes back late, it is full of bruises and strange pains...- especially on the legs. And the plausible explanations, in fact, would be more than one, but the other doesn’t want to even consider it. He hesitates, before moving on to the next point, bowing his head and seeing Phil and Matt do the same. -We haven't been making love in a while, because every movement is a pain for her.- he whispers, but his cheeks still turn red. -I didn't even think it was possible, I trust her completely, but... I don't know what else to think about.- he takes his head in his hands.
A few moments of silence. -But there will certainly be another explanation, Garcia is not really the type.- even Phil, while remaining silent, nods vigorously.
Luke, however, shakes his head. -I don't know.- he answers to his best friend, then focuses on the other man. -Matt, did you not notice how she became distracted even at work?- another clue that she tried to avoid until the end, but how not to pay attention to those dark circles, to the constant yawns, and worse, to the fact that she didn't called him more to report some discovery to them.
Simmons takes a moment to think seriously about what his friend and colleague asked to him. -Well, actually she always looks tired, but I don't think this is overwhelming.- in fact, before Alvez dragged them here early in the morning, almost pulling him out of bed, he was convinced that he and Penelope were exaggerating a little with the extracurricular activities.
-No, but it's definitely strange.- Luke stares at the beer and pushes it away from him, as if he saw all his problems inside. It is not something he did, to drink at these times, although he is very well able to manage alcohol without unpleasant consequences.
-Well, what are you going to do?- Phil asks, unable to bear the silence. He wonders how can he not mention at all this to Samantha. That woman has radars, she'll surely understand that he's hiding something from her.
Luke takes his head in his hands. -I don't know.- he sighs. -It's not that I can go to her and ask her if she's cheating on me, don't you think?- they both stare at him thinking the same thing. Why not?
-Yes, well, do you want me to try to investigate?- proposes the Asian, noting that the clock now marks 7.20.
-No, Matt, I thank you, but it's something I have to face alone.- Luke shrugs his shoulders and his head, trying to give himself a firm and confident tone. -I just needed to let off steam a little.- he confesses, only in part sincere. -Thank you very much, both of us.- Phil slaps him on the back and Matt merely looks at him meaningfully.
-You are welcome, friend.- adds the latter. -Try to stay calm.- he winks at him. -Inside you, you know that Penelope would never hurt you.- he reminds him.
Phil gives him a hand. -That's right. Even if she stopped loving you, which frankly I can believe as life on Mars, well, she wouldn't betray you, you know, she'd leave you, blaming herself.- Luke nods, but someone else punches not too hard the table, making all glasses clink.
-Hey, but what do you know there is no life on the red planet?- Matt asks indignantly and also quite upset.
Phil struggles to hold back an ironic smile. -If the aliens existed, they would have already tried to conquer us.- he explains in a rational and scientific tone that makes him look like a correspondent for some documentaries of National Geographic.
Matt glances at his colleague, looking for support, but gets nothing. -Well, but it is not necessarily so, for the way we have reduced the Earth, probably they stay away from us.- he says, equally convinced and above all convincing.
-You are not telling me that you also believe that man was really arrived on the moon?- when his best friend poses that rhetorical question, Luke understands that he has to take charge the situation again. -Come on, and how do you explain that the flag sways in the wind?- he jeft, and nobody will stop him. Sammie was also shocked when she found out that she was dealing with a secret conspirator. –And then at the time they already had all the means available, the location and the right director to recreate the landing.- he adds, pleased.
Seeing Matt open his mouth, Luke anticipates him, shouting. -Guys!- they both stare at him.
-Sorry.- Matt raises his hand in surrender. -However, the only way to find out is to ask her, or follow her in secret.- exchange of glances between the two soul mates.
-The hunter is back.- Phil says.
-He never left.- Luke echoes him.
That evening, in the gym available to federal employees
He sees her in another man's arms, moving sinuously. He waits for the stranger to leave, then opens the door. -Penelope!- she turns immediately.
-Luke, what are you doing here?- she is wearing a black and red dress, which leaves her back uncovered.
-I could ask you the same question.- she folds her arms. The hair is collected in a chignon.
-I'm training... to surprise you, you fool! I'm learning to dance the tango.- she explains then, performing in a pirouette that makes the slit of the skirt dance.
-What? That's why you come home every night in pain and...- she interrupts him.
-Yes, Mr. Spoilerowski! What did you think I was doing?- Luke doesn't answer. -Oh, for all the gigabytes in the world. You thought I was betraying you!- she understands.
-I'm sorry, I'm... I'm a jerk.- she nods.
-A month of suffering, falls and poundings, all for nothing!- he puts his hand on her back.
With the other, he grabs hers. -Why you say this?- he approaches her. -Come here.- Penelope stares at him, intrigued. -I know a few steps too...-

Anson Funderburgh & The Rockets feat. Sam Myers - “Look What You're Doing to Me” Blues Cocktail Party Song released in 1987. Compilation released in 1991. Blues
The Dallas, Texas-based blues bandleader and guitarist Anson Funderburgh has consistently been one of the hardest working men on America’s national blues circuit since his debut with his band, The Rockets, in 1981. That album kicked off the acclaimed modern blues label, Black Top Records, and for about the next fourteen years, Funderburgh called the label his home. Throughout their career, Funderburgh and The Rockets managed to release seven studio albums, and at their peak, were considered total road warriors, having lit up stages at an eye-popping average of 300 times per year.
A little-known piece of trivia about Funderburgh and The Rockets is that Mike Judge, the man of Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill, Office Space, and Silicon Valley fame, was actually the band’s bassist for a couple of years. And that’s an important fact because Beavis’ look is actually based off of Funderburgh.

You see it, right?
Anyway, from 1981 to 1985, The Rockets’ lead singer and harmonica player was a man by the name of Darrell Nulisch. ‘85 also happened to be the year that Funderburgh (without The Rockets) teamed up with a chittlin circuit veteran vocalist and harmonica player from Jackson, Mississippi named Sam Myers to release an album. The following year, Myers would become Nulisch’s permanent replacement in The Rockets, which was a move that proved quite fortuitous. Myers’ bonafides as a longtime bluesman played a significant part in raising Funderburgh’s own profile.
In 1992, Black Top released a various artists compilation called Blues Cocktail Party, a collection of good, upbeat songs to play at a classy social gathering. Appearing exclusively on that album is a Funderburgh and Rockets song that was recorded in 1987 called “Look What You’re Doing to Me”.
This song shows two things: One, it shows that Funderburgh’s guitar doesn’t have to shine on every Rockets song. He’s a team-playing kind of bandleader and doesn’t seem to mind if he’s not in the spotlight. What matters most is that he and his bandmates reel off a good song, and it doesn’t really matter how they do it. In the end, he doesn’t have to be the ultimate reason why. A true sign of a gracious bandleader.
Two, this song shows just how good of a vocalist Myers is. It doesn’t really sound like he’s expending much effort here, but his butter-smooth voice still has a way of filling a room. A solid combination of Matt McCabe’s underlying piano, Funderburgh’s guitar plucks, Marc Wilson’s steady drumbeat, and Rhandy Simmons’ bass all help to provide “Look What You’re Doing to Me” with a light and fun, 60s R&B vibe that Myers can just casually glide across.
Some upbeat late 80s blues for these troubling times. Stay the fuck inside you freaks.

For a professional fighter this is invaluable and I highly recommend this manual if you are serious about your fighting career!”
The Immortal Matt Brown ,UFC Fighter
“Rob Pilger’s book The Boxing Blueprint is just what I’ve been looking for in real strength and conditioning expertise from someone who is entrenched into the boxing world. These exercises and conditioning drills are specific designed for boxers again Rob great work, I will be implementing these training workouts in my sons program.” Joe Suarez-Suarez Boxing Boxing Coach, Father & Trainer of Carlos Suarez

“Rob has been an under ground in the trenches fight coach for years. He has delivered a masterpiece with this manual! The power chapter is sick! It’s packed full of real world no fluff bullshit training methods that will have you hitting harder, faster, and longer, outlasting your toughest competition!”
Renegade Mind Set Coach for Fighters Stephen Ladd CHEK II
BOOM! Right hook of knowledge!
“Rob Pilger’s Boxing Blueprint is a must have for combat athletes. Rob provides a complete program and explanation to improve strength, power, and endurance. He sets this manual apart by adding rock solid science and making it practical for any lifter. I already have this manual printed out and will be referencing it regularly at our gym!
Thanks Rob! Joe Hashey CSCS
“Man, I wish I’d had this book 25 years ago! I was fortunate in that my first boxing coach (Willie Toweel) knew I needed strength training, unfortunately he had no idea what kind. I can still remember his words as he sent me off to the gym, ‘just don’t let them make you big and slow’. That was the fear of most boxing coaches back then and it still is today when it comes to resistance training. Fortunately Rob’s book should finally change all of that! Here’s a book that breaks down exactly how to build explosive power in a safe and scientific manner based on all of Rob’s incredible experience and knowledge.”
Author of 5-Minute Flexibility, 25 years in the combat arts Giles Wiley CSCS
“It’s about time that someone cuts through the bull shit in the Boxing world. Where was this book when I was a kid? That’s all I could think of when I had the opportunity to read The Boxing Blueprint. I consider Rob Pilger a colleague and a friend in Boxing. If you are ever in question, learn from people who lead by example – Real Fighters and Those who actually train real fighters. Rob is the best of both worlds. There is no room for “The Land Of Make Believe” in Boxing. Rob Pilger’s book is practical. Not theory. The Boxing Blueprint maps out every training aspect for a Novice Boxer to a Seasoned Professional. The knowledge that is shared is superior and is laid out in an understandable way. It will answer all the training questions you may have and will save you from the mistakes most fighters make. It may very well save your Boxing Career.”
The YESS TRAINING BARBELL CLUB (LLC) Joe Rossi
“This book does what it says on the cover! Rob has covered every aspect of a fighters training with this book if you take your training seriously then this training bible is a must. I have used it when planning sessions with fighters from amateur to professional and the feedback and results are tops.”

Coach Rob
Q: Rob, is this training system for a complete beginner?
If you’re a beginner, this training system will rapidly improve your strength, power, and conditioning as you have a young training age and don’t not bad lifting patterns and imbalances to correct like the advanced fighters do. This system is for the amateur JO fighters, novice, open, and open fighter. For 4-8 round pro fighter, 10-12 round main event fighter, and the veteran pro. You simply plug the appropriate training guidelines I have in this manual to your current experience level.
Q: Rob, but if it doesn’t work for me?
Then it’s FREE. If you don’t get stronger, faster, more explosive, and improve your conditioning then I will quickly refund your $ NO questions asked. That’s how confident I am with my training system. So you have ZERO risk. The heat is on me to produce and I will in this book. 🙂
Q: Rob, do i need expensive equipment to use your training system?
You don’t need any shiny machine equipment. That shit is garbage! Just the bare bone essentials will get you in amazing shape.
• Room to perform body-weight exercises. • Barbells, Dumbells, kettle bells • Power rack ( this is like a total gym, squat, dead lifts, chin up, pull ups, close presses, all in one piece of equipment) • Swiss ball
And while medicine balls and cables aren’t absolutely necessary, you will get optimal results if you have access to these as well.
Q: Is my credit card information safe?
That is a great question! I understand that many people are still just now making their first purchases online and are a little nervous about using their credit cards on the Internet. These days, online payment processors have advanced to the point that they are actually MORE secure than many other forms of payment.
In many ways, ordering online is actually a safer method of payment than giving out the info on the phone or on a mail-in stub, where an actual human is going to have access to your info. With a secure online form, a human will not have access to your info, only the merchant bank.
Our merchant account uses SSL (secure socket layer) technology to protect your information from being viewed by any third parties. Even as the website owner myself, I don’t have access to any credit card information that you input for the order. Only the bank processes the information.
We use Clickbank to process our orders. Clickbank is the most popular and frequently used credit card processing company in the world for online downloadable products. Clickbank has an outstanding reputation and security has never been a problem. You’ll notice that when you get to the page where you are inputting your card numbers, the beginning of the web URL will change from http to https. That indicates that you are on a secure page and the info cannot be found by a 3rd party. Keep that in mind on any websites where you are using your credit card. Always look for the https at the beginning of the web address on the actual page where the card info is requested.
Q: How long does it take for The Boxing Blue Print System to arrive?
No more than about 1-3 minutes. As soon as you complete your purchase, you’ll be given instant access to E-Manual and bonuses. No need to wait impatiently until it arrives in the mail, or pay additional fees for shipping.
Q: Does it matter what country I live in and is the sale in US dollars?
You can order online no matter what country you’re located in. Our secure credit card processor will automatically convert the US dollars to your country’s currency.
Order Online 24 Hours A Day, 7 Days A Week, 365 Days A Year
All orders are processed on a SECURE server.

Teen Challenges
 https://www.voiceamerica.com/episode/124072/teen-challenges
“We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” Franklin Roosevelt
Rachel Glass hosts a show focusing on teen challenges. She begins by reading then resonating with the chapter, The Gift of Youth by Victoria Whitebread from the book, Be the Star You Are! Millennials to Boomers Celebrating Gifts of Positive Voices in a Changing Digital World. Rachel also reads the chapter she wrote for the same book titled, The Gift of Self-Love and provides an update on how she has grown and changed since writing the chapter. Her chapter’s purpose is a call to action for people to individually look inward and be thankful. People across the country are facing real issues like hunger, poverty, and racism, and it’s not as simple as just staying positive and being thankful. We must help and love others. Author of For Teenagers Living with a Parent Who Abuses Alcohol/Drugs, Edith Lynn Hornik-Beer, is interviewed. Edith was inspired to write her book after she was approached by teens after they read her newspaper column, The Young World. The book answers many questions including: What causes alcoholism? What can I as a teenager do to protect myself from abuse? Where can I get help? Should I stay at home? How can anyone expect me to concentrate in school? Why do I fight with my parents even when they are sober? Where can I go for help?
Edith wants everyone to remember: You are not alone.  You can do so much with your life. You do NOT have to be a prisoner of your circumstances. Establish a healthy lifestyle. There is help.

All on The Prince’s Seal / Ch. VI
Tumblr media
[ Masterlist ]
A sea of concerned faces turned to him as he got into the small dining room that had, during the course of the few passing weeks, turned into the unofficial meeting room between him and the major politicians of the country. Matt was on his heels, dutifully closing the doors behind him before walking to Mr Rossi and the rest of the security detail on the wall while Luke sat down. It had been three weeks after Teresa’s death, and Luke had taken the advice of both Matt and his personal doctor to stay out of politics for the immediate aftermath while he was still going through the grieving process, but the news cycle hadn’t allowed him to stay away from it as much as unable to do anything.
“Your Highness,” Barnes greeted as the room stood up, muting the cable news running in the background. Luke motioned them to sit down, keeping his face passive despite knowing them to have been watching the exact same story he was on his way down. The same man the channel had called was still talking, the reel running on the bottom line with little changes from Luke’s last check: “Political expert: Prince Lucas’s stalling is ‘already hurting’ Valosia.”
“Prime Minister,” Luke responded, prompting her to begin the meeting.
Barnes collected herself, clicking her pen and settling ready to write on one paper as she read from another: “As I’m sure has not escaped your notice---” Luke nodded, “the people are expressing their concerns towards your reign. Both as your abilities as a political leader, and over the uncertainty of the next coronation.”
“I’ve given the public a date.”
“Yes, you did. As did your sister before you. But with a year still ahead, and the foreign leaders having uncertainty of your legal capabilities before coronation, there’s concern in the air within both the public and international relations if following tradition in the middle of what was undoubtedly a state of crisis was the best move.”
At the mention of international affairs, Barnes turned her eyes towards Prentiss, who nodded to convey she’d be glad to continue, before turning to Luke. “I’m afraid the Prime Minister is right. While older allies of Valosia and the people who interacted with Teresa before her passing know of our traditions and know to treat you as if you were King in the absence of one, countries Valosia doesn’t have that extended history with seem unsure how to proceed with diplomacy... and many of our existing allies don’t know what to expect from your leadership.”
The issues weren’t new information to him---many of those points he had heard and read, some over and over again while trying to keep up with the events of his nation---but it still felt jarring. It was very different to read it from media outlets than hear it with the voices he associated with trust and authority. Luke nodded solemnly, absorbing the information… and, perhaps above all, trying to find ways to fix it. He’d hoped that he could, with time, show himself worthy of the crown without needing to resort to flashy publicity stunts… It’d felt like a good strategy, especially in the footsteps of Teresa’s months before her coronation. Suddenly, he wasn’t so sure any more.
Barnes raised her voice. “There’s also an another matter. The safety of the crown. Though, I think perhaps Mr Atwood would be best suited to speak on this.”
“Thank you, Prime Minister,” the Head of National Security, stated, ending the absent playing with his pen upon being given his turn to speak. “I would like to schedule a meeting on this, in private, later with you, but it’s maybe best I give a run-down of the matter now.” It wasn’t quite a pause that he held, but the man showed hesitation in the way his eyes flickered between his papers and Luke’s eyes. “As you know, and I’m very sorry to bring this up, you are the last living member of the Alvez family.”
Luke couldn’t help a small, sharp intake of breath. The matter had been an uncomfortable elephant in the room---for himself. Ever since the day of Teresa’s passing and her subsequent funeral, the media had not failed to reiterate the matter, spicing the storytelling with speculation on how Luke would carry on the legacy, reminding the audience at home where the leadership would fall if he would pass as unexpectedly as his sister. The staff and the people around him had been considerate enough to refrain from mentioning the topic, but it had always been a matter of time when the silence would be broken. It had to be, eventually, even if only in the name of the nation.
It still struck him.
“Since you are not married, and especially since you aren’t King yet as far as the constitution is concerned, there is no obvious next of kin who would take upon the duties you have been given now in your sister’s passing. The constitution declares any event of the entire Royal family ceasing to exist as an immediate national emergency, and nobody wants that, especially not now.”
Another difficult breath.
“Now, I know there’s a lot in your plate right now. There are things we can do, things you can do, to secure the throne. Right now, however, while you’re still in your transition period, I would suggest increasing your security detail, especially when you are moving outside of the palace. Both for your safety and to give the people the message that you’re not gonna be taken down so easily. I would like to sit down with you and Mr Simmons to discuss specifics more in detail---if Mr Simmons is still planning to stay in charge of your personal safety, that is.”
The man’s eyes didn’t raise from Luke.
“I am, sir,” Matt responded from behind him.
“That’s alright then. I’ll find a date for our little chat, in the meanwhile… You should keep in mind, as it nears the anniversary of your father’s passing, Valosia has been without a King or a Queen for almost two years. Even if you have clear-cut plans about what you’re gonna do, the public certainly doesn’t. We can tell them to keep going with their daily lives for some time, but eventually, your Highness, they’re gonna look for guidance. And you need to rise up to that.”
It looked, for a moment, as if he’d planned to continue the statement---then the silence went on for too long, and Barnes cleared her throat.
“Does anyone have anything to add?” Silence filled the room. “In that case, I suggest we end this meeting here to keep it short. The parliament will be in session in two hours, those to whom this concerns will have until then to have their smoke breaks. Thank you for your time, Prince Lucas.”
Luke stood up, giving the room the permission to clear out. He faced Matt while people emptied their seats behind him, security detail around them pairing up with their protectees. Matt had a glimmer of anticipation in his eye, something unbothered by the bleak tone of the conversation; Luke raised his eyebrow.
Matt simply gave him a quick nod, telling him to be patient.
As the last people in the room---Prentiss and chief of staff Hotchner---left the room, Matt took a few long steps behind them to close the double doors, turning the handle to lock them, giving it a few tugs to make sure it did. He then turned around, walking back to Luke on the back wall. It was enough for Luke’s stress levels to rise… until he saw the look in Matt’s eyes: not worry, not his forcibly neutral expression, nothing to indicate the danger he seemed to be isolating them away from.
Just gentle and slightly eager.
“Matt, what a---” Luke’s words got cut off when Matt took hold of his collar, quickly pulling the prince into a kiss, lips in controlled collision with Luke’s, making him forget how to talk even after Matt’s mouth moved to his jawline.
“You have too much going on in your head.” To where jaw meets neck. “You’re stressed.” By Luke’s throat. “I’m giving you something else to think about.”
“Matt…”
“Barnes said two hours.” There was nothing cautious in the way Matt’s mouth was moving, nor in how his fingers had slipped under the collar, tugging it down for as much access he could get before getting permission to start taking it off him. “There’s no security cameras here.” Matt pulled him to a brief, demanding kiss. “Your bedroom is too emotionally loaded.”
And then he separated, a pause long enough for Luke to hear the lust in his breath and see the expression: let me help you. A pause long enough to hear he himself wasn’t unaffected by it, either. “Two hours,” Matt pleaded.
Past Matt’s shoulders, Luke could see a couple of takeaway coffee cups that had been left there by the attendants of the meeting. He turned them around, now his back by the table and Matt’s by the wall, and knocked one over, remnants of cold coffee spilling on the table and dripping to the floor below. His eyes turned to Matt’s, the other anticipating an explanation.
“Now the table needs to be cleaned anyway.”

7 winners and 5 losers from Day 1 of the NFL Draft
Tumblr media
Isaiah Simmons, Jeff Okudah, and Jedrick Wills Jr. heard their names during Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Things went great for the Dolphins, Tom Brady, and Ohio State. Not everyone was so lucky, though
The first round of the first-ever teleconferenced NFL Draft is over. Tragically, it was short on unmuted phone lines, random dog interruptions, and pick-disrupting technical difficulties. In fact, it was pretty much just a normal draft, only without Roger Goodell getting pummeled by 300-pound defensive tackles and their excessive hugs.
While the true results of this year’s opening day at the draft won’t be understood for more than a decade, the first 32 picks were able to earn knee-jerk reactions. The Dolphins got to see their rebuild take root with a QB-OT combination that will hopefully carry them into the future. Across the division, Bill Belichick played his cards so close to his vest he opted out of Thursday entirely.
The Packers got a new quarterback to play behind one they still owe more than $120 million. The Jaguars killed the trade leverage of one of their few remaining stars. The city of Columbus, Ohio, got to see a whole bunch of former residents make the leap to football’s biggest stage.
Who were Thursday night’s biggest winners and losers? We’ve got a few ideas, some of which won’t be completely proven wrong over the next five years.
Winner: Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins
Tua Tagovailoa was the smart choice. Though it looked like the Dolphins may trade up for an offensive lineman or opt for Justin Herbert, those pre-draft rumors turned out to be a smokescreen. Miami has its franchise quarterback, and it’s the guy who lit up the SEC over three sometimes-healthy years.
The same guy who looks good in a suit, even in his family’s swank-ass living room:

The Dolphins were able to get their cornerstone tackle 13 picks later. Austin Jackson isn’t just a great pass blocker, he’s a tremendous human being who put off his dreams in order to save his sister’s life. He’s a raw talent, but he’s got the potential to be an All-Pro with the right development.
That wasn’t all! They turned the 26th pick — one acquired from the Texans in exchange for Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills — into the 30th pick and a fourth-rounder through a deal with the Packers. That pick turned out to be speedster corner Noah Igbinoghene, who will team up with Byron Jones and Xavien Howard in one of the NFL’s most terrifying secondaries.
The Dolphins needed A LOT of talent to speed up their turnaround. They got three possible future stars and the chance to add more all in the course of a few hours Thursday.
Loser: Patriots fans
New England was set to make only its second draft pick inside the top 23 since 2012 after flopping out of the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. But instead of selecting a potential quarterback of the future, Bill Belichick decided to defer to Friday. He shipped the Patriots’ first-round pick to the Chargers for their 37th and 71st overall selections.
The move recharges the team’s Day 2 draft pool and gives the Patriots more low-cost ammunition to refill a roster that’s been picked apart in free agency. Per Adam Schefter, Belichick is confident the player he wanted at No. 23 will be available at No. 37, which would effectively give the club a free third-rounder.
That’s good! But if you’re a Pats fan who came into Thursday night waiting for some semblance of local sports news or a glimpse into the team’s future, well ... at least you got to see Belichick’s wicker collection:

Winner: Ohio State
Joe Burrow. Chase Young. Jeff Okudah. What do the top three picks in this year’s draft have in common? They all, at one point, played for Ohio State.
Consider for a second the Buckeyes’ 2017 roster. It not only had Burrow, Young, and Okudah, but also another first-round pick in this class, Damon Arnette, and several first-round picks from other years, including Nick Bosa, Dwayne Haskins, Billy Price, and Denzel Ward. And probable future first-round picks like Shaun Wade and Wyatt Davis. And way more NFL players (Jerome Baker, Sam Hubbard, Terry McLaurin, etc) than that.
It’s no wonder OSU alums are already coming up with a new nickname for the program, when DBU no longer does it justice:
Nah we might as well just say NFL U ! I’m sayin that from now on Sunday Night Intros ! Lol https://t.co/fcqxFZM8OE

Round 1 ended up being a pretty good recruiting tool for Ohio State head coach Ryan Day:

Not that he needs much help these days.
Loser: Yannick Ngakoue
The Jaguars pass rusher is very publicly angling to get out of Jacksonville. While he was given the franchise tag by the team back in March, Ngakoue has taken to Twitter to express his desire for a trade. He’s even got into public spats with Jaguars executive Tony Khan about it.
Just trade me . I don’t need the speech
— Yannick Ngakoue (@YannickNgakoue) April 20, 2020
However, the first round of the draft was nothing but bad news for Ngakoue. It showed there continues to be no worthwhile trade market for his services — something Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell confirmed later in the night — and the team added another pass rusher to the mix by picking K’Lavon Chaisson.
Ngakoue is backed into a corner now. He can follow the Le’Veon Bell path and sit out the entire 2020 season, but that’d cost him the $17.8 million he’d make from the franchise tag. The Jaguars could trade Ngakoue, but they certainly don’t have to either. With Chaisson and Josh Allen on the roster, Jacksonville can feel OK with whatever route it chooses.
Even though the Jaguars already had most of the leverage, picking Chaisson gave them just a little bit more. Ngakoue’s chances at getting out of Duval any time soon looker slimmer than ever.
Winner: Kliff Kingsbury
The Arizona Cardinals needed a little bit of help all over their defense. So they got a player who can do a little bit of everything. Isaiah Simmons was projected to go as high as the No. 3 pick, but his brief slide down the draft board paired him up with an innovative head coach who’ll be receptive to his freewheeling, play-almost-anywhere skills.
And we do mean play almost anywhere:

Even better news for Kingsbury is that he can scheme up plays for Simmons, all from the comfort of his Parasite home:

Loser: The Panthers’ draft reasoning
Simmons, the Clemson linebacker/safety/corner/etc, was still on the board when the defense-needy Panthers made their selection at No. 7 overall. The fact they chose Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown over him wasn’t especially eye-opening on its own, considering what a talent Brown is.
Carolina’s reported reasoning behind the pick, however, was:
The Panthers liked Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons a lot at No. 7 and he was the best pure athlete on the board, but they felt he was a better fit for a veteran team because of his ability to play so many positions. So they went with Auburn DT Derrick Brown,... https://t.co/Wfu6yhMSgv
— David Newton (@DNewtonespn) April 24, 2020
Ah. So Simmons was too athletic and versatile for the Panthers. Got it.
Winner: Tom Brady
Brady’s week started with the addition of a recently un-retired Rob Gronkowski. Then the Buccaneers reiterated their commitment to keeping their new QB happy by trading up one spot to pick up a tackle who could be the best blocker to emerge from this year’s rookie crop.
Tampa Bay gave up a fourth-round pick to move from No. 14 to No. 13 and select Iowa hoss Tristan Wirfs, the reigning Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year. Wirfs was widely regarded as a top-10 pick this spring, but his slight fall made him too tempting for the Bucs to pass up. Now he’ll go from protecting Nate Stanley to keeping a six-time Super Bowl winner upright.
Loser: Aaron Rodgers
Coming into the 2020 draft, Rodgers was eager to point out how cool it would be for his Packers to add some receiving help in a draft loaded with wideout talent.
Aaron Rodgers on @PatMcAfeeShow: "We haven't picked a skill player in the first round in 15 years, so that would be kind of cool." Rodgers says whoever the pick is, he'll track down his phone number and welcome him to the team tonight — if the Packers don't trade out.
— Matt Schneidman (@mattschneidman) April 24, 2020
It looked like Green Bay was going to fulfill those expectations when it traded up to No. 26. Then the franchise selected ... Utah State quarterback Jordan Love. Instead of getting a first-round wide receiver or tight end to lighten Davante Adams’ load, Rodgers got the player who the Packers will groom to be his successor.
We’re sure he’s fine with that.
Winner (mostly): Javon Kinlaw
Kinlaw has big shoes to fill. His landing spot at No. 14 was made possible by the Niners’ willingness to ship DeForest Buckner — another first-round pass-rushing interior lineman, who has 19.5 sacks in just the past two years — to the Colts.
But Kinlaw is also capable of becoming an All-Pro for the 49ers. He was a wrecking ball in the middle of the field for South Carolina and should start immediately in the NFL. The presence of pass rushers like Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead, and Dee Ford should limit the number of double teams he sees as a rookie.
On that note, here’s Kinlaw’s dad impersonating every QB who has to face the 49ers’ defensive line this coming season:

Loser: The trade market
There was a lot of handwringing about the effect a fully virtual NFL Draft could have on teams’ ability to trade. The league even considered adding an extra time option if GMs were working on finalizing a trade. Maybe that’s why John Lynch of the 49ers had three phones at his draft day set up.
Teams worked ahead of time to make sure that they could get trades done.
More than ever, teams will try to work out trades before the NFL Draft begins just in case. To that point: The #Lions have been engaged with multiple teams on potentially trading out of the No. 3 spot, sources say. Things have heated up over the last 24 hours.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 23, 2020
So why was there just one trade in the first 20 picks and none in the top 10? There weren’t any technical difficulties that kept deals from happening. It seems like teams were content to patiently wait for the prospects they coveted to slide their way — which is fine, but kinda boring.
Winner: Mock drafts
Well, it wasn’t the most wronger year after all. Despite warnings that mock drafters were way off this year, they weren’t at all. It was actually one of the most accurate first rounds for mocks in a while.
Five of the first six selections were the most popular choice in mock drafts. The only exception was the Giants taking Andrew Thomas instead of a different offensive tackle. While there were a few relative surprises — like cornerback Damon Arnette to the Raiders with the 19th pick and linebacker Jordyn Brooks sneaking into the first round to the Seahawks at 27th overall — no pick came completely out of left field.
Even those two picks by the Raiders and Seahawks addressed needs that were expected to be priorities. It’s time to give the draft prognosticators a round of applause for their 2020 performance.
Winner: The Browns’ Super Bowl chances
There was little doubt the Browns would draft a tackle in the first round. It was just a matter of which one. Still, it was a little surprising they took Jedrick Wills, who’s only played right tackle, when they just signed Jack Conklin in free agency.
Wherever he lines up, though, Wills is ready to play right away, which is what Cleveland (and Baker Mayfield) needs most of all. And that has former Browns stalwart Joe Thomas pumped as hell:

That’s it, we’re ready to believe this is the Browns’ year.
