I am not sure where the JC discourse stuff coming from but hey I went to twt the mdzsquote bot thing where people had discourse with jc stans vs wwx stans (idk at this point anymore I block the account but got the gist there is discourse over a quote bot account) I feel like while exiledrebels is doing a good job translating the novel to English as the only finished English translation, English readers don’t deserve no translation from ExR. And a lot of the quote they ‘discourse’ about in the QTs kinda feel a bit weird to me as someone reading the Chinese version, MXTX‘s narration feels more straightfoward in a ‘slay’ way where she doesn’t mince the words (and as someone who kinda speaks English, English as a language for translation target sucks, especially since we don’t have ways to translate cultural phrases or popular idioms and popular Chinese only phrases got removed a lot (because they’re weird when you translate them to English) BUT. Removing them makes the story even weirder now that I read it in Chinese. Don’t get me wrong, I love the ExR translation but translating anything to a different language is very nuanced and translations are not without fault. (I found that the English words are kinda a bit not as straightforward as the Chinese one, it hits different)
Even the absolute highest quality translation possible, done by a professional translator with experience in their field and perfect fluency in both languages, is never going to perfectly match the original text. There are some things that just... don't translate well, and you have to find the closest equivalent. And the ExR translation is uh... not. that. I'm glad it exists, but it's kind of... y'know, bad as far as translations go. This is why you want translations to be done by actual translators. "Better than nothing" about sums it up, I think.

This kid’s arms are so strong. He’s truly your disciple, Hanguang-jun. You taught him too. Well, it’s no wonder he turned out so handsome and capable.

I was the successor of the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng. What gives you the right? Who was the one that went back on his words first? Who was the one that betrayed the Jiang Clan? Tell me! Every single time, you sided with those outsiders! What did you take us for? How much do you owe the Jiang Clang? The Jiang Clan raised you. The Jiangs even gave their lives for you. My father, my mother, my sister, and Jin Zixuan. Should I not hate you? Why is it that now, it appears as if I’m the one who owes you? Why should I have lived like a fool for all these years? That I deserve to live in your shadows, blinded by your light?

Ghost General. The ashes were swept away by the wind. We tried our best, but these were all we could find. Thank you.

Uncle Jiang, Madam Yu. I’ve come to disturb both of you again. But this time, I brought Lan Zhan along with me.

What gives... What gives you the right not to tell me all of those things? You said you would be my subordinate when I became the clan leader. You said you would support me for your entire life. You said you would never betray me. You said you would never betray the Jiang Clang. You said so yourself...

A council? More like a crusade against Jin Guangyao and a celebration of his death. Lan Zhan. How about I take you to another place? All right.

Back then, during the first siege of Burial Mound, Jin Guangshan led the Lanling Jin Sect, while Jiang Cheng led the Yunmeng Jiang Sect; Lan Qiren led the Gusu Lan Sect, while Nie Mingjue led the Quinghe Nie Sect. The former two were the main forces, the latter could’ve gone without. Now, the Lanling Jin Sect’s leader hadn’t arrived at Burial Mound, having only sent people for the Gusu Lan Sect to command; with the Gusu Lan Sect still led by Lan Qiren. Nie Huaisang replaced his brother’s position, shrunken within the crowd, his face still full of ‘I don’t know about anything’, ‘I don’t want to do anything’, and ‘I’m just here for the numbers’. Only Jiang Cheng was still the one surrounded by hostile energy, face insidious, staring straight at him. But... Wei Wuxian looked slightly to the side. He saw Lan Wangji, who stood beside him, without any of hesitation, any thought of withdrawing. But, this time, he wasn’t alone anymore.

His expression was in a disarray. There was anger, there was hatred, there was doubt, there was hesitation, there was distress. He shouted again, “You really are Wei Ying, Wei Wuxian?” Seeing how he looked, the pain in his voice infinitely greater than the hatred, Wei Wuxian felt his heart shake... All of a sudden, a coldness passed through his stomach. As he looked down, Jin Ling had already pulled the white blade—now red with blood—out of him. He didn’t expect that Jin Ling really would come at him. The thought in Wei Wuxian’s mind was, He could be like anyone, yet he just so happened to have taken after his uncle Jiang Cheng. They even like to stab the same places.
