Fandom posts about Megatron's trial/him being put on the Lost Light that frame Optimus as the bad guy are always so fucking funny to me. And it's almost never "Optimus putting Megatron on the Lost Light was an abuse of authority and unfair to Rodimus and everyone else on the ship" which is an actually valid critique, but I often see it from Megatron fans who are somehow convinced that Optimus was like.............unfair to him?????? By "making" Megatron join the Lost Light? Or by "forcing" him into doing things he didn't want to do?

There's the people who think that being put on the LL was a punishment for Megatron where they were constantly putting him through moral tests designed to make him fail which is.... literally where, where did you get that. The LL was just a random cruiseship of misfits who didn't even ask for Megatron to be on the ship with them, where are ppl getting this idea that Optimus/the LL crew were in some sort of Machiavellan plot to torment Megatron and rub in how he's so evil he'll never be accepted?

Or like the fact that wanting to join the LL in search of the Knights of Cybertron was literally Megatron's own idea and the whole "only the Knights of Cybertron can judge me" thing was a legal loophole that he only pulled out bc he was mad about Starscream publicly humiliating him during his trial? And that if Megatron really didn't want to agree to the terms of his parole, Optimus was just going to keep him in prison until the LL came back with the Knights rather than immediately executing him?

Oh but Optimus made Megatron drink Fool's Energon. Ah yes, it's so evil and unfair of Optimus to make Megatron (one of the deadliest fighters of their entire race) drink a substance to make him weaker due to the fact that in far space, there's no one to enforce Megatron's parole or to stop him if he was lying and really just wanted to kill everyone. And btw Fool's Energon was a placebo the whole time, so Optimus' gay ass couldn't even poison Megatron properly. It was entirely a token gesture made for appearances only.

What about the part where Optimus made Megatron denounce the Decepticons, you cry? Well if one were to actually read the entire speech instead of taking screenshots out of context (something this fandom loves to do), the "we were wrong to assert ourselves" comes directly after a statement about technoism and subjugating organics; in other words, "we were wrong" is referring to the whole colonialism and genocide thing, not saying "we were wrong to rise up against Functionism." (Which btw Optimus was literally a fanboy of Megatron's and agreed with his writings, and pre-war OP did his own undercover work to foil the Senate's plans, and they overthrew the previous Prime Zeta together, so idk where people are getting this idea that Optimus hates Megatron for being a meanie revolutionary that didn't play nice >:((( ).

And given that the Decepticons attacked Megatron's trial to try and break him out, and that there was a splinter faction of Deceptions under Galvatron that were trying to invade Earth again, I think it's pretty fucking reasonable that Optimus would go "So before I very indulgently grant you the rank of captain and let you go on a random cruise ship for your journey of self-actualization, would you mind making a speech to deradicalize the Decepticons? I'm trying to keep society from not descending into another civil war and you helping by telling the Decepticons to Fucking Stop is the least you can do in exchange." I mean if Megatron cared so much about the Decepticons he could've said "No, I'm not going to give that speech, in fact I'm going to stay on Cybertron and speak to the Decepticons my way" but he didn't bc he decided that going on his personal quest was more important than sticking around to integrate the Decepticons back into society.

But somehow, Megatron choosing to make that speech so that he'd be allowed on a ridiculously lenient parole is the big, evil Optimus' fault, and Megatron has nothing to do with how poorly the Decepticons are treated post war, he had no power to stop that apparently.

Like it's just so incredibly weird to me that Megatron fans villainize Optimus for, of all things, letting Megatron join the journey for the Knights of Cybertron. Optimus' decisions were almost entirely driven by personal bias towards Megatron where he abused his authority as Prime to defy what quite literally everyone on Cybertron (and possibly the whole galaxy) wanted, which was Megatron's immediate execution for his crimes. He lets Megatron free of prison with almost no oversight, grants him captaincy of an Autobot ship, gives him a freaking placebo instead of actual weakening energon, and the only thing he demands from Megatron in return is a speech to make the remaining Decepticons who were still fighting (which wasn't even all of them) understand that the war is over. And Megatron accepts all of these terms because the whole thing was his idea that he wanted to be allowed to do. The only reason Optimus' indulgence didn't go badly is bc Megatron wasn't lying and actually meant his heel-face turn.

But somehow all of this makes Optimus the bad guy who's being unfair to Megatron???? Never mind Optimus' flagrant disregard of the law in favor of granting Megatron's personal wish??? Never mind the fact that the conditions for Megatron's parole were incredibly lenient to the point that one of them was a placebo and not hurting Megatron in any way??? Never mind that the speech Optimus made Megatron make was entirely for political reasons to try to stabilize society again and not bc he wanted to humiliate Megatron or something ridiculous like that???

What I mean to say is it's very confusing to me why the discussion of Megatron's trial is "Optimus is so mean/bigoted for making Megatron do what he did and forcing him to live under such strict conditions" and not, idk, "Megatron chose to abandon the Decepticons and publicly denounce their cause for the sake of getting to go on his own personal journey" or even "Megatron was initially going to just submit to trial, and the Knights of Cybertron excuse was something he pulled at the last minute because Starscream made Megatron look like an idiot and Megatron decided he wanted a more Grand and Important legacy than that." Or even "If Megatron cared about the Decepticon,s he would've just refused Optimus' deal and stayed in prison on Cybertron rather than trade the dignity of their cause for his own freedom." Nope. It's all Optimus' fault. Poor Megatron was forced onto the Lost Light and this is such a horrible and unfair punishment for him.

People want Megatron to be a poor downtrodden victim of the Ebul Autobots so bad, when the reality is that post-war/early MTMTE Megatron is nothing more than a dethroned tyrant, severely in denial of of his own shittiness, going on a journey solely to benefit his own ego, and all of MTMTE/LL is about him trying to get better from his stupid pride and self-centered behavior.

And of course, he takes it upon himself to interrogate Megatron alone. How brave, they think. If only they knew the true relationship between Megatron and Shockwave!

They plan a lot on how to get the Cons out of prison. But they also frag. Sometimes both at once. Until Megatron gets sparked up, and it becomes a desperate race against time, because the Decepticon heir can't be born in an Autobot prison.

That, and what kind of sire would Shockwave be if he let that happen?

So it's up to him and Team Chaar to get them out.

In their optics, he's volunteering to do something many other mecha would beg not to. They think he's taking on the task nobody else wants.

Shockwave over here is playing 4D chess and turning this "interrogation" into the perfect way to feed the autobots false information, directly relay information to and from Megatron with wayyyy less chance of getting caught, and also rekindling their very much missed sexual relationship.

I was wondering how you created the characters. Do you have a page on each one all drawn up?

I think I'm correct in assuming you mean the original characters, so I'm going to roll that way with this question.

First of all, I want to mention that I try to avoid OCs in fanfiction unless I decide they're absolutely necessary. And in a long fic like Bad Bet, they really were unavoidable. The reason I avoid writing OCs is because, as a reader, I'm not in a fanfic for the OCs -- I'm there for the blorbos from my shows. That being said, if OCs are necessary to the fic, I don't shy away from.

But the fact that you think I have meta documentation on my OCs is very flattering and totally untrue. 🤣

The OCs have an alarming habit of walking into the story and then telling me who they are, and I actually feel wildly out of control with them.

They show up and say, "I'm doing what I want. You can just deal with it."

*** Bad Bet SPOILERS under the cut. ***

Mark was the worst offender.

He walked into the story, and suddenly I was daydreaming about who he was and what his motivations were. This was when I was writing chapter 5 back in February of 2023. Back then, I still had the utterly naive belief that Bad Bet would be less than 100k. Back then, I thought the Blue Room would be nothing more than a setting where I'd redirect Porsche back to the Theerapanyakuls. Then Mark, THIS asshole, rolled up and was so interesting to me that I suddenly realized, "Oh, shit, these guys are going to play a significant role, and I want the Blue Room to come back in the second half of the story."

He was just suddenly so fun to me. To get a set of fighters at the Blue Room who would do what they did for Porsche, I needed someone like Mark who would be highly biased in his selection of who fought in his rings, who had a motivation for selecting guys who would do what they did for Porsche. Mark had to be a leader who would lead in such a way that this behavior would be encouraged. Mark had to be SO specific for that scene to work. Without Mark, that environment normally would not support that scene. That environment, without Mark, would be "to each their own, every man for himself."

That was also when I slowly realized I was fucked and Bad Bet was going to be enormous. (That and the fact that I still hadn't gotten to the Chay reunion yet, which I originally thought would be a little sooner.)

Sure enough, when I worked out the rest of the outline, I had more than double the fic that I was expecting.

Davies similarly showed up in chapter 1, and suddenly I had a circus ringmaster on my hands. He wanted to be a showman, and all I could think was, "Sir, where did you come from?"

Alix, Santichai, Dan, Happy, Ford, Megat, they were all somewhat better behaved. But I still have no idea why they are what they are. If you told me that spirits possessed me and wrote themselves into the fic, I might actually believe you.

Mek, however, my beloved random, mature bodyguard, is my own personal running gag. Mek appears in multiple fics and will continue to appear in multiple fics.

Megabee fantasy au

A little 18+ nothing major just some spicey thoughts from megatron and talk of consummation.

Once upon a time there were two great kings. One was the noble ultra magnus, a renowned knight and skilled tactician loved by his people and respected by his allies for his wisdom and fairness. The other was the ferocious dragon king megatron, a vicious warrior and powerful sorcerer, feared by all for his might and mercilessness who ruled a kingdom stolen by way of revolution. For years a great war was waged by these two rulers, both taking direct involvement and neither willing to bend to the other. It is during the later years of this conflict that the noble king's only child died tragically shortly after the birth of their own. Eventually with the power of the legendary allspark, magnus claimed victory and established peace.

The plan had been simple, it was supposed to be simple. He'd attack the capital and rain down dragon fire on all the peasants praising and celebrating the wretched magnus then kidnap his rivals precious granddaughter allowing him to bargain the princess for the allspark. It had all gone so smoothly. Up until he reached his castle and unhanded the young royal in order properly introduce himself and scare the little thing a bit, that he rapidly learned three things.

One, the princess was actually a prince, by the name of bumblebee infact.

Two, said prince couldn't have been less afraid of him, made clear through the fact he started yelling at him before he could get a word in.

And three, megatron had no clue how to handle fearless, pretty things given all he could do in the moment was grin and offer to show the prince to his room.

It had been a few months now and megatron was rapidly falling harder and harder each day for his captive. Bumblebee was simply... enrapturing. He was bold and shameless in a way that megatron couldn't help but be drawn to, always confident in his words and direct in his opinions. Such openess was a rare trait among the courts and quite refreshing. As a matter of fact, megatron was already planning to bring him into his court as an advisor, the thought if which made his insides flutter. On top of that bee was quite the charming one, funny and witty in a way that left megatron smiling and made hours pass by like minutes, melting away all the days stresses.

The prince's stay was never meant to be permanent, megatron was never meant to keep him, never meant to fall for this wild thing in fine silk and priceless jewels that could speak in regal honeyed words with one breath then let loose a string of profanity that would make a sailor blush the next. but it seemed that a change in plans was in order, the only question was what that change would entail.

On one hand, he could simply demand the allspark in return for the prince and later on use the artifact to conquer magnus's kingdom as intended then wed his sweet bee afterwards. but bumblebee deserved so much more then being some spoil of war and his dragonic instincts snarled at the thought of giving him up for any amount of time. No. No he wouldn't allow such a thing.

On the other, he could marry his paramore then claim his kingdom once magnus died maybe even poison the old bastard to speed up the proces. He would be able to keep bee by his side and torture magnus with the thought of his "vile enemy" tainting his precious heir. Bumblebee would make a radiant queen, megatron could just picture him cloaked in the finery of his kingdom, decorated with jewelery from his horde, an elegant crown perched on his brow as proudly as dragon horns, beautiful and regal and precious and all his.

Megatron shook his head at that train of thought, he had to focus on planning right now heeding the demands of his instincts could come later after they were properly wed, preferably when they consummated the union. He shook his head again. He had to focus. "Megatron?" The voice of bumblebee called. He could focus on those things later. Megatron looked up to see the welcoming sight of his paramore in the entrance of his office leaning on the doorway. He had to admit, while bee looked stunning in the fine honey yellow silk he had originally donned, the darker, leather and fur trappings of megatron's kingdom had quite the elegant appeal on his little bee. Whether that was simply bee's natural beauty or megatron's slight possessive streak talking was unknown as of late.

"What can I do for you my dear?" He greeted with a seductive smile." Bee toyed with hem of his jacket as he spoke. "Strika says you need to take a break and I know you aren't big on take things easy so I was wondering if..." bee looked away "if?" Megatron pressed curiously. "You'd wanna go on a horse ride with me? Out in the woods?" Megatron sat up from his desk with a grin. "It would be my pleasure." The beeming smile bee shot him hardened megatron's resolve impossibly further. No matter what course he took one thing was certain in his heart, he would never be letting this treasure go.

BONUS

A squad of knights sat proud on their horses, their weapons at the ready and everything they'd need for their expedition prepared. "Remember," King magnus addressed with all the power of a monarch in his voice. "You must keep this quiet on your way in, catch them off guard to ensure your princess suffers as little harm as possible." "Understood your highness, the princess will be safely returned before the enemy is even aware we were there. " the leader of the squad and magnus's captain of the guard, sentinel, assured. "See to it that you do captain. Now go! Do your kingdom proud and save your princess, save my grandchild!" Magnus ordered and just like that the team surged away out of the castle gates like a rolling storm. A moment of silence passed, then another, and finally ultra magnus sighed. "Never fear my little one, you'll be home soon and we will make those savages pay for all this."

BONUS BONUS

As the group of knights tore out of the castle, another group set off after at a distance. "Keep quiet and stay close, understood?" Optimus called in hushed voice to his friends who each nodded their ascent. "Good," he raised his axe up a bit. "for bumblebee." He quietly called. "For bumblebee." The others echoed, their voices quiet but filled with determination.

So I have read a fanfic recently (mainly part 1) about what if Megatron meet Nemesis Prime. ("Know Thy Enemy" by YunaYamiMouto on AO3) And it got me thinking. Like here are some quotes from this:

"The mech before him turned around, something ... not quite right in his movement. In fact, he held himself all wrong. Even as a data archivist, Orion had held himself more regally than that fake Prime, Sentinel, ever could. The shape of the body in front of him was right, but the motions were all wrong. Yes, Optimus had always held himself as a fighter: proud back straight, shoulders bravely squared, helm held high as he regarded any enemy that might oppose him, [...] Whether he knew it or not, both as Orion Pax and as Optimus Prime, he had a very sensual motion to his hips, whether he was standing still, charging into battle or strolling into a verbal sparring match. It could be quite distracting, if one was not used to it or of a weak processor and resolve. Gladiators and soldiers both had ran into things when the red and blue mech used to pass them by on his way to Megatron, whether it be in the streets of Kaon or the battlefield. The shape before him was right and held itself halfway decently, [...].

Seen or unseen, heard or unheard, Optimus Prime's presence was always felt. It wasn't even just Megatron. Every bot felt it when Optimus Prime set foot on the battlefield. The Autobots started fighting harder, the Decepticons found it far more difficult to hold the line but they didn't give up ground easily, either, though most of their fields sang with the need to run and Megatron always felt his spark skip a few harmonics. Optimus could be on the other side of the battlefield entirely, miles upon miles separating them so not even their sharp optics could pick each other up and yet he'd always know Optimus was there." And here is what got most of my attention:

""I must admit, I'm impressed. It took the other robots a lot longer to figure that out," the imposter said in sub-vocals that were distinctly human despite the robotic drawl of the vocalizer it was using. Megatron growled, optics narrowed, EM field lashing out in anger. The other didn't react, only straightening Megatron's suspicions about this fake being a drone. Created by the fleshlings of this pathetic, cursed planet, no doubt. [...]

"I am Silas, but more importantly, we are MECH," 'Silas' responded in a proud, arrogant tone [...] It only made him hate the human and the impersonator of his rival even more. "I was honestly expecting Optimus Prime here, but instead I got you. And just who might you be?"

"Megatron of Kaon, the Lord of the Decepticons. Why are you impersonating Optimus Prime, filth?"[...]

"MECH is always searching for new technology. As soon as we learned of your species' presence on Earth, we started studying you until we finally managed to build you. Optimus Prime was the strongest, sturdiest robot we knew of, so we made a copy of him. Only we made him better."

Megatron couldn't help it. He laughed in the human's face. The mere notion of someone thinking they could create a better Optimus Prime than the bot himself was so ridiculous it was bordering on mad. "You are so delusional, human, that I actually pity you. You can't make a better Optimus Prime!"

"And why is that?"[...]

"Because Optimus Prime is perfect," replied the gray mech instantly, feeling no shame in admitting something that he had thought even before the Matrix had reformatted his enemy. "From spark to mind to frame, Optimus Prime is the pinnacle of perfection in a Cybertronian. A little too naively idealistic and optimistic, perhaps, but even Primes aren't flawless." [...] "What made it so easy to tell you apart from the real Optimus Prime is that you've chosen to replicate the closest thing to perfection itself and you've failed miserably."

"I find myself doubting your words, Megatron of Kaon, as I am quite confident this perfect mend of man and machine can defeat you." Megatron only grinned more at that. A fight is what he had been invited to, so a fight is what he will get, though he will have to find the real Optimus after he's finished with this pathetic fool. This stunt he's pulled is quite sneaky for Optimus' standards. [...] Luring Megatron out to fight his fake would keep his Autobots safe without worrying himself at the consequences of meeting the weak copy in close combat." There is also this moments, that absolutely is my favourite: "Even if he hadn't known this wasn't Optimus already, the stance the other picked would have told him everything, as would the fact that he attacked first. They had locked themselves in an unconscious dance throughout the centuries, taking turns in who's leading with the first attack. The last time they faced off was Optimus' turn, which meant this time it should have been Megatron's. Even though it wasn't a conscious decision on their part, it repeated itself like a general law of dynamics. They never strayed from the pattern. The fact that this fake Optimus engaged first in servo-to-servo combat was also completely un-Optimus-like, as the Prime always first engaged him in a firefight to discourage close combat, as it usually led to longer battles, higher risks, more casualties and more energon lost in the process." _____________ " After the long millennia of fighting with his dearest rival and the centuries before that of them being as close as brothers, Megatron knew every minute shift of Optimus' every nut and bolt and screw. To most of the universe, Optimus was as stoic as they come, especially if he engages his battlemask. In truth, he was very expressive, if only one knew where to look. Not only the optics gave him away. Megatron could see the direction his opponent might be going or on just what Optimus was focused on by tracking the movement of those ridiculously endearing audio finials of his. They were as telling as seeker wings or door-wings, particularly in Praxians." ___________ ""You are a special kind of fool, flesh bag. I know the body of Optimus Prime better than his medic! I know best how to both bring him pain as well as pleasure. Perhaps you would have been a better challenge had you picked anyone else for your little experiment. It would have at least held an element of surprise! As it was, this was rather disappointing.""

I thought I was going to fall and not get up when I read this. The dynamic between them both in this fic is incredible. I sincerely recommend reading it, specialy if you ship them togeher (if you do not then read scenario 2, it won't disapoint). ;)

Taissa Nadine Turner- this one was also chosen for the initials because i feel like taivan both having that is cute. tai's initials are TNT and Nadine both sounds good with with other two and means "hope" which i feel like would fit with both her parents' dreams for her and taissa's personality. the girl just keeps going

Benjamin David Scott- i like the sound of it and it would be fun for his middle name to match a queer icon: david bowie

Akilah Nicole King- nicole means victory, which i think would be tragic with akilah who's trying so hard to keep going but we know won't make it. and king just sounds really good with akilah AND is a common name across the board

Mari Gabriella Flores- middle name is from the angel gabriel that declared to mary that she was gonna have a baby because mari "i hope that shauna doesn't die" being named after gabriel is PEAK comedy to me. also flores is one of my favorite hispanic last names and i want to give her flowers. on account of the pit

Genesis Stevie Kondo- okay look, i know a person named after genesis the band and the idea of gen being named after genesis the band AND stevie nicks is entertaining to me. also marie kondo and getting rid of stuff with care and kindness and poor gen is getting thrown out of the cast by being killed. do you see my Vision TM

Kristin Cassandra Megat- i made this name up for god honoring cannibalism and i'm very fond of it for crystal <3

Travis Rosario Martinez- i know that rosario skews female, but it IS gender neutral still. and let me tell you, travis One of the Girls TM, virginity was jealousy guarded and then he was punished for having lost it being named partially after a famous devotion to the VIRGIN mary. i like the themes

Javier Alejandro Martinez- alejandro is very pretty, means warrior which is a sad sort of ironic, and then his initials are jam which makes me giggle

Lisa Marie Hawthorne- giving lisa a very common middle name and a fancy, wasp-y last name complete with nathaniel hawthorne's generations away from puritanism guilt. it feels right with her mom being the way she is

As part of her special day, I drew STC Sonic giving his GF Sakuya a gift:Megatal Knives he made from some Super Badniks he destroyed, Megatal Is super strong, so he found it a worthwhile gift for her in his eyes...and she certainly appreciates the gesture.

...And yeah, Sakuya came out horrible, I really can't say anything else.
