Finding information on Jamila wasn't particularly easy, but from what I can gather...
(credit to @eepop-stuffs btw for getting her on my radar!)
Tumblr media
Jamila was first released in 2006 by Simba Toys Middle East. According to an article published upon her debut at the 2006 Middle East Toy Fair in Dubai, her prototype initially intended to include fashions representing Turkey, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. However, these concepts never made it to final release, and we unfortunately have no photos of what they would have looked like.
Tumblr media
Her initial lineup consisted of four dolls: herself, her male Arabic friend Jamil, her Indian friend Sunayana, and her Egyptian friend Kareema.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The name Jamila means "beautiful", and she seems to have only really been released with one outfit. She wore a black abaya with silver detailing with black shoes, and underneath wore a light blue tanktop with a white pencil skirt. Like her friends Sunayana and Kareema, Jamila has dark hair, brown eyes, and henna on her hands and feet.
(Credit to Bababolond on Flickr for the images)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those unaware, Henna is a form of body decoration which originated from Africa and the Middle East, used with a natural dye from the Mehendi (lawsonia inermis). It is commonly tied to religious ceremonies such as engagements, weddings, Diwali, and Eid!
For Eid Al-Fitr, Henna would be applied towards the end of Ramadan as a symbol of the earthly delight of being alive. Jamila (and Sunayana if we're to believe they had identical Henna) seems to have eye imagery in hers, which represents protection from evil thoughts or wishes. It's also found on the top of her hands, also symbolizing protection, and on her feet, meant to soothe the nerves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The name Jamil means "handsome". Jamil was initially released clean-shaven, but it seems later releases gave him facial hair. This might have been around the same time he was changed from Jamila's male friend to her husband, likely because (although opposite-sex friendships aren't explicitly forbidden) certain Muslims worry such friendships might result in inappropriate romantic thoughts. While this doesn't seem to be a unanimous belief across the board (many believing opposite-sex friendships are fine so long as you're careful), it might have caused enough controversy that Simba felt the need to marry the two so there weren't any implications. (Credit to Jan Unwichtig and Bababolond on Flickr for the images)
Ngl tho he is giving me major Kenergy...
Tumblr media
Jamil comes with a white Thobe with silver buttons, a white Serwal ( undergarments traditionally worn beneath the Thobe), a white cotton undershirt, a white headscarf known as a Ghutra (tied with a black band called the Egal), black sandals, and a small dagger.
I'm actually not sure why his doll comes with a knife? The closest I could find was the Kirpan: a knife or sword which serves as a reminder to promote justice and protect the weak, mandatory for Amritdhari Sikhs to wear at all times. However, although non-Muslims sometimes confuse the two, Sikhism is a completely separate religion from Islam.
If anyone knows what this knife might be intended to represent, please let me know and I'll reblog an edit to this post!
Tumblr media
After they were married, Jamila and Jamil had two children: Asad (meaning "Lion") and Almira (meaning "Princess"), both seen in the first illustration on this post. However, I can only seem to find one doll release for their daughter Almira, and none for Asad. Jamila comes in this playset in her base outfit, while her daughter (who cries when you press her stomach) wears pink pajamas. The playset includes a crib and several plastic accessories, including two hair brushes, a blow drier, and a baby bottle. Not only is this only release for Almira, but this also seems to be the only other release for Jamila aside from her initial core doll.
Tumblr media
Sunayana means "woman with lovely eyes". She has long braided black hair, wearing a blue Lehenga Choli with a yellow Dupatta. Like Jamila, she also has henna on her hands and feet. She wears silver bangles, a silver necklace, and what I believe might be a Maang Tikka. Based on her images on the back of the doll boxes, I'm fairly certain she came wearing yellow sandal heels as well!
Honestly she might be one of my favorites of the line, since you sadly don't see many culturally-accurate Indian dolls compared to other ethnic groups. I especially love the use of color, and just how much jewelry she comes with!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally we have Jamila's Egyptian friend Kareema, whose name means "generous" or "kind". She has pale pink undergarments painted on beneath her clothes, which I assume Jamila has as well. Weirdly enough, however, she doesn't seem to have Henna like the other two.
Like Sunayana and Jamila she has long black hair, which is kept beneath a white hijab. She wears a long blue overcoat, matching jeans, blue shoes, and a multicolored striped shirt. As far as I can tell, her clothing doesn't seem to have Egyptian cultural roots like Sunayana's has Indian, however her modest style of dress and hijab are common for most Muslim women.
I've been meaning to make this post for at least a full week, and it's nice to finally get to share another beautiful yet obscure Muslim doll! It's a shame this doll didn't have more releases, since I'm honestly curious with the direction the might have taken with her and her friends based on the prior illustration! Regardless, I'm happy I got to share her and her friends with you all :)
Ramadan Kareem!

the headache and a cold doesn't seem to go away. i have a thousand pending assignments and too much work lined up leading straight to pre boards. there's so much wrong with life, but at least i can smell the winter in the air. i think I love the days leading up to diwali more than diwali itself. the streets are crowded with women who have mehendi on their hands, and someone else is holding all their stuff. the street food is better. there is light everywhere. people shop together. there's so much chaos, but in a beautiful way. you feel so much more loved.

 HINDU RITUALS FOR WEDDING
These are some of the pre-wedding rituals for Hindu Weddings.
Blooming Blossom
In Hinduism, a marriage takes place when the groom’s Mehendi with the bride's Mehendi is put on. Hence, the groom is adorned with a Mehendi to symbolize the union of the two families. A groom in his first marriage also has a first Mehendi and applies Mehendi on his wife’s hands for the marriage,” explains, Gita Joshi, a Delhi-based wedding stylist. “It is very common in rural areas of North India. Also, in rural areas, when a girl marries, her first Mehendi must be pink and for her husband’s Mehendi, he must apply purple Mehendi.”
Mangalsutra
A Mehendi generally marks the occasion for the girl to become a part of the groom’s family. The groom is expected to give her a Mangalsutra. In a Hindu marriage, a man cannot give his wife anything but mehndi.
Here are some marriage traditions from India.
Tilak
During the Hindu wedding, the bride and groom are painted with tilak, which means ‘to seal,’ and is done by the Mehendi artist to symbolize the bond of love.
Indian Wedding Rings
Before the ceremony, the groom puts a ring on his bride’s finger in a ceremony known as ‘Canadian’, according to some Hindu customs. While he wears the ring for a year or two, the bride also wears it for the rest of her life.
Kanyadaan
“The moment you begin living together after your marriage, your spouse becomes your family. When the man puts his ring on his wife's finger, the couple has sealed their bond and become one family. I have seen some men pinning the ring very soon after the wedding and others have waited till later. In my opinion, you should wait as the bride would feel uncomfortable being pulled towards her husband's finger immediately. The ring is given as a reminder of their commitment. When the couple meets after the wedding, it becomes a family ceremony, and they also get to keep the ring,” says Gita Joshi.
Put the Mehendi on the hands of both bride and groom and they remain engaged for one year or till the next Mehendi.
Conclusion
These were some of the rituals of Hindu Marriages. Marriage is meant to be a big ceremony in India.

Anika Sen is an Indian Stand User, having been born in Calcutta, in the midst of the tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to the Indo-Pakistan War in 1971. In fact, she was born on the day India won against Pakistan in that war. So, her birthday was considered a miracle by her family members.
Her father, Prabir, a businessman, is a Hindu from West Bengal, and her mother, Swati, a self defense instructor, is a Christian from Mumbai, Maharashtra. As Prabir’s ancestors were radicals and thus opposing of her parent’s marriage, they escaped to Mumbai for protection.
She has an elder sister named Antara who is eight years older than her and is very close. She’s gotten married twice, and her second husband, Shaan's been a blessing in disguise, with them eventually having a son, Shaurya.
Her best friend is Karan Bose, whose father met Anika’s father, and they became friends-colleagues-business partners in the oil industry. Karan and she have been friends since they were born and were considered to be inseparable as kids.
Anika’s been a victim of bullying as a result of a couple of incidents and it’s because of this, she never wanted to feel helpless again, so she decided to learn MMA from her mother.
How Did They Get Their Stands?
To celebrate her arrival back to Calcutta and the fact that Anika and Karan scored well in their board examinations, Karan’s and Anika’s family traveled to Egypt, only to find DIO’s minions kidnapping Anika's parents.
Karan, Anika, Antara and Shaan ran to find them only to find DIO having shot arrows at her parents, that’s when they ran to protect them, thereby all of them gaining what they thought were evil spirits, but what is now known to them as Stands, the manifestation of our souls.
However, her father became sick, because he was a gentler soul, which if not treated, could cause him to succumb to the sickness. At the same time, a flesh bud was planted on Karan for sinister reasons.
All of them then started their training to use their Stands to great extents, that's when her mother told her about their long-term association with Mr. Robert E.O. Speedwagon and the Speedwagon Foundation. Speedwagon was friends with her great-great-grandfather, who helped him build the foundation and her grandfather helped in growing it the way it was today.
That's when they heard stories of the Joestar clan and how DIO was initially Dio Brando, Jonathan Joestar's adoptive brother, but they ended up being opponents once Dio stole a stone mask and turned into a vampire. They were told that Jonathan was then trained in Hamon and seemed to have been victorious over Dio, until 100 years later when a coffin was found from deep underneath the sea, causing the renamed DIO to escape, develop a Stand, and hire others, possessing them with flesh buds, to exterminate the existence of the Joestar clan and those willing to stand alongside them.
They then established contact with Joseph Joestar, Jonathan's grandson, who told them that his daughter, Holly Kujo also developed a Stand, but the Stand is acting upon her, causing her to fall ill the same way her dad fell ill. In fact, DIO's head now possessed Jonathan's body, so when DIO activated his Stand, the Joestar clan activated their Stands too, including his grandson, Jotaro Kujo.
Join Anika as she takes revenge on Dio, joins the Stardust Crusaders, learns about the potential of her Stand, gets over the skeletons in her closet, and hopefully, along the way, fall in love with a certain someone.

Every book I read in 2021 summarised in one sentence and reviewed in another: Part 2
The Remains of the Day - Kazuo Ishiguro. A longserving butler looks back on his time working for an aristocratic British family, reflections which show the audience how the values of butlerhood have had a haunting effect on his mental state and emotional maturity. Ishiguro’s writing style is very reflective and tangential, which can make this a bit of a slow burn, but the characters and message truly do make it worth it.
The Bookshop of the Broken-Hearted - Robert Hillman. After his wife and son leave him for a Christian cult, an Australian farmer falls in love with a Holocaust refugee bookseller, while trying to save his ex-wife and son from said Christian cult. The love story is really, really sweet, but this is one of those books that tries to tackle too many issues and ends up doing none of them super well.
Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda (Love Simon) - Becky Albertalli. A closeted gay teenager contemplates how to come out while striking up an anonymous online relationship with another closeted gay at his high school. I related to and enjoyed this book a lot for no particular reason.
Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro. A group of young English people reflect on their time at boarding school and how said boarding school was not, at all, what it seemed (the specific premise of this book is actually a massive spoiler so I have to be kind of vague). This book gave me the heebie-jeebies but in a good way.
Eleanor and Park - Rainbow Rowell. A boy who is trying too hard to be cool and edgy falls in love with the new girl in his school and defends her from her abusive stepdad. The romance is so emotionally investing I completely overlooked the egregious racial stereotyping and had to find out about it from YouTube.
The House on Carnaval Street (also published as Margarita Wednesdays) - Deborah Rodriguez. A memoir, detailing Rodriguez’s move from being a hairdresser in Afghanistan to dealing with PTSD in the Californian woods, and ultimately moving to an idyllic Mexican town. Fun story: despite this being a memoir, I actually found it in the fiction section of the library, but Rodriguez’s life is that crazy yet compelling it almost belongs in the fiction section.
Tales of the City (Tales of the City #1) - Armistead Maupin. A group of 20-something’s in 1980′s San Francisco, most of whom are not straight and all of whom are very horny, deal with relationships and the randomosities of life. The characters are literally amazing; literally one of my life’s dreams is to be part of this sort of friendship group.
A Match Made in Mehendi - Nandini Bajpai. A Desi teenage girl uses her family’s Indian matchmaking principles to create Tinder but for her high school, at which point hijinks ensue. The premise is a little absurd, but it’s very well-handled and I did end up genuinely caring about the characters.
Conversations With Friends - Sally Rooney. A cynical literature student falls in love with a married actor, and over the course of their relationship is forced to confront her own unacknowledged vulnerabilities. The level to which this is a realistic portrayal of modern relationships is chilling.
Madame Bovary - Gustave Flaubert. In 19th century France, a rural doctor’s wife becomes dissatisfied with how her life isn’t living up to her romantic expectations, and thus spends all her money on shopping and extramarital affairs. People say Tolstoy plagiarised this for Anna Karenina, I say a) this didn’t have the Levin subplot and b) this is four times shorter than Anna but somehow four times slower-paced.

Asees Kaur Songs and Indian Idol Journey:
Asees Kaur Indian Idol (born 26 September 1988) is an Indian singer that has engaged in various singing reality shows like Indian Idol and Awaz Punjab Di. Asees Kaur aspired to be a playback singer at a young age. She's well known for her tender singing and effective voice. She began singing Gurbani at age 5. She left her Bollywood debut with "Dildara Reprise" out of Tamanchey. Ever since that time, she's worked with different music composers on many Bollywood songs such as"Ve Maahi" out of Kesari, Makhna" out of Drive, Bandeya Re Bandeya" &"Tere Bin" from Simmba, Akh Lad Jave" and"Chogada" from Loveyatri and"Bolna" from Kapoor & Sons.
Tumblr media
 Early life and History
Asees hails from Panipat, Haryana.
Born on 26 September 1988, Asees began singing at a tender age. It had been Asees's dad who pushed her to sing Gurbani. She learnt the Gurbani by herself and won accolades in the very first attempt. She finished her M.Com. Out of SD (PG) College Panipat.
As she grew up, she chose to take up acting professionally. Her version of this Gurbani was published in India and she gained an enormous appreciation for the same. She began singing Gurbani on different occasions. Her sisters were actively involved with the Gurbani recitation. Asees engaged in a Punjabi fact series, Awaz Punjab Di, after that she came to Bombay and fulfilled many different music composers.
 Music career
Asees is famous for its tune  Asees Kaur songs like "Ve Maahi"  which has been trending on all platforms. She completed "Bolna" in the GIMA 2016 Fan park. Her sisters" Gal Karke" using Desi Music Factory, Kisi Aur Naal" with VYRL Originals and "Mujhe Jeene de" together with Panoctave India were instant hits and topped the charts. She's now managed by Tarsame Mittal Talent Management because of her live shows.
It is not every day that three sisters come together to make a tune. However, singers Asees Kaur, Deedar Kaur, and Prabhjee Kaur have come together for the very first time using a distinctive wedding tune. The track, that will be a mash-up of favourite wedding tracks such as'Madhaniya' Chidiya Da Chamba' Laung Gawacha' and Mehendi', Asees Kaur nai lagda is sung by Asees Kaur and Deedar Kaur along with the music video is led by Prabhjee Kaur, who recently sang 'Stupid Saiyaan' out of' why Cheat India'.
It was a fun and publication experience, says Asees Kaur, known to belt out chartbusters such as Chogada','Tere Bin' Akh Lad Jave' Bolna' along with many others. We're planning this for a while now and it's a job we are extremely enthusiastic about.
Tumblr media
The track is extremely lively and peppy and that I hope that the listeners love it. It had been Deedar's thought to think of collaboration. She's the mastermind behind it and we simply loved the thought and came on board. Prabhjee Kaur, that headed the track states, I've led music videos before but functioning together with household is exciting and fun. Here is actually the first of several tracks individuals will hear by the Kaur sisters.

📸 This is an older henna photo of mine. I remember this henna, and enjoyed doing it for a beautiful lady who always stains really pretty when she sees me. I found it while posting to my Pinterest board and realized it was being used to sell henna kits and cones on Amazon that are not natural or safe or even useable. This pic is what natural henna stains look like at a certain point in the oxidation process. The "henna" sold on Amazon is not natural henna. Real henna is NEVER gel like, red, black, or comes out of a metal tube. Sometimes this icky pretend henna is put in henna cones to appear natural. Henna always looks like green toothpaste. Green frosting. It smells like plants, looks like plants, and is relatively safe like plants.....but you will NOT find natural, safe henna on Amazon,or in Walmart, or in craft stores. Please pass this info on. KITS ON INTERNET = BAD* *unless your local natural henna supplier is selling on their website. . . . . #naturalhenna #safehenna #realhenna #homemadehenna #hennatattoo #mehndi #mehandi #mehendi #heena #7enna #hennakit #hennaartist #mehndiartist #simplehenna #easyhenna #hennaforfun #stained #stainedbodyart #stained_bodyart #stainedhenna #hennalover #hennadesign #hennaink #hennaparty #hennatube #hennacone #hennacones #hennastain #blackhenna #redhenna (at Tampa, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8ZfRBUHRfO/?igshid=z3qov6qi46my
