Is it possible to see your Skyrim playlists 👀 particularly the Miraak one (I understand if not!)
oh hell yeah. sorry for liking edgy music. These are the playlists I use for writing these characters so the lyrics aren't always specific to them, they just get me in the right headspace to write my favorite fellas. some of these are loud, maybe lower your volume just in case. A lot of them are love songs because that's what i write!
Miraak
Snow - Ricky Montgomery The Night We Met - Lord Huron The Worst In Me - Bad Omens Never Think - Robert Pattinson I Will Possess Your Heart - Death Cab For Cutie Arcade - Duncan Laurence As The World Caves In - Sarah Cothran Let's Talk About Your Hair - Have Mercy Such Small Hands - La Dispute In The End - Black Veil Brides Love Like Ghosts - Lord Huron This Loneliness Won't Be The Death Of Me - Being As An Ocean Always Attract - You Me At Six Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't - Brand New Weak At The Knees - Have Mercy MANTRA - Bring Me The Horizon Sad Prayers For Guilty Bodies - La Dispute Sex With A Ghost - Teddy Hyde Ivy - The Amity Affliction

I did one of these on tiktok Over a Year Ago, I call it an Animatic To-Do List, and it's basically a list of Animatics I want to do at some point. And with The Underworld Saga coming out very soon...
A Humanformers Epic the Musical Animatic To-Do List
It's literally just Humanformers Animatics with Epic Songs and has literally nothing to do with the Oddesey/Greek Mythos Outside of That. And also, Humanformers BECAUSE I CANT ANIMATE ROBOTS FOR THE LIFE OF ME AND I DONT WANT TO TRY. It took me long enough to figure out how to draw TFs in a style I liked.
List below the cut.
So I'm doing pretty much every Song released so far except Survive,Polyphemus, and Storm, which Storm is Kinda Up In the Air of if I'm gonna do it or not. That may be a short Animatic. Also Descriptions of what I plan to do with them.
Horse and The Infant:
I've thought about this a lot, and I know I want to create a Praxis Animatic for this song because it reminds me of him. Also, Zues=Prima (in personality)
Just a man:
So..uh..Confession that a lot of people probably already know.. I used to, and still kinda do, Play Gacha. I had a series I created with Gacha and posted to My YouTube Channel called Knights Honor, which has now wrapped up. And It basically focused on Thunderhowl and the Other Knights of The Primes. This is where OCs Like Necromancer, Praxis, and Esmerelda were born. Scatterspark and Thunderstrike already existed at that time, but they were fairly different. So Anyway, in Thunderhowl’s intro for his Parts, because the series was Segmented by Knight, he had his backstory dialog from Cyberverse + Just A Man. This series was a musical of sorts, and I originally planned for One of Thunderhowl’s songs post imprisonment to be Just A Man, but eventually decided against it, though I put it in the intro. After Thunderhowl, I started this pattern of using songs I decided against in the Intro.
So this is why I want To Create a Thunderhowl Animatic for Just A Man.
Full Speed Ahead:
Optimus, Thunderhowl and Soundwave animatic. Human versions of My Fan Contunity Designs.
Open Arms:
An Animatic with Thunderhowl and Hot Rod, slightly inspired by a fanfic I read, though mostly original.
Warrior of The Mind:
ORION PAX/OPTIMUS AND ALPHA TRION I HAVE THOUGHT OF THIS SO OFTEN IT DRIVES ME CRAZY
Polyphemus/Survive: I'm putting this here to explain why I'm not doing these. And it's simple.
I don't care for these two songs. Something about Polyphemus's voice? It just messes with me the wrong way, I don't know what it is. And also that way I can try to avoid being reminded of Polites. I get why people like these songs but I don't care for them. I'll listen to them on occasion but they're not a favorite.
Remember Them:
It's probably a short Animatic because I love the end part with Athena and Ody shouting everything about him to everyone in the world. I love that he delayed his way home by 10 years by doing that. I like watching misery sometimes.Probably Gonna be Optimus and Trion.
My Goodbye:
Though it's no longer Canon,(to the fanfic, the song is plenty canon) I made a Gcmv with Aria and Cody from Rescue bots to this song, but I might change it to like, Jett and Aria.
Either way, Cyberverse Human Partners AU animatic.
Storm:
I actually like Storm Quite a bit, I just can't find any ideas for it.
Luck Runs Out:
Do you know how much this song reminds me of MegaOp.? Like, yeah. Not even in a Romantic sense.
Keep your friends close:
This is actually my second favorite song, and I really want to animate my OC Nightjaw as Aeolus, who also, like Aeolus, was a boy in the original source material.
Ruthlessness:
I knew I wanted to create an Animatic of it, and my First idea was Alchemist and Onyx Vs Starscream..but then I was like Ehh I don't like that, so I decided on A Necromancer Animatic because he may seem sweet, but he is very much a "Ruthlessness is Mercy" Kind of Person deep down. So a Necromancer vs. Op Animatic, and I'm hoping to create more of those after Ruthlessness.
Puppeteer:My third favorite song! I love this song ,and it is so my OC Loki. So Hot Rod and Soundwave are invited in by Her.
Wouldn't you like:
Thunderhowl In my Fan Contunity was built upon the snippet of this Song literally. just Thunderhowl in My Fan Contunity.
Done For: my Favorite Snippet I heard and My Favorite Song! Loki vs Hot Rod.
There are Other Ways:I actually didn't think I'd like this song as much as I did.(Thanks, Ody, for saying no to this.)
Yet another Loki Animatic.
And now, the Snippets I will maybe do:
Legendary:One of the First Snippets I heard, it reminds Me Of my Oc, Apollo, who is the Son of Thunderhowl in my Future Kids AU.
Love In Paradise: one of, If not the first,Snippet I heard. I want to create a Hammerquake(OC) animatic to it.
The Challenge: another Nightjaw Animatic
Hold Him Down:CircuitBreaker(OC) animatic if I don't replace CircuitBreaker by then.(seriously I'm thinking of Replacing him with a New Oc, he doesn't work in that AU anymore.)
Snippets I was gonna do before the Underworld saga was announced so now I'm gonna wait for the official release:
No longer You: i was restraining myself to thumbnail this one when The Underworld saga was announced because I have the whole snippet. In. My.Head.
It opens with my Fan Contunity Optimus walking into a Room, and finding Vector Prime. He starts singing. And like there's a Cybertron reference, there's clockwork all around in an empty void of Space. It was literally gonna look awesome, but now I gotta wait.
Monster:
An Animatic about one of My Thunderhowl AUs. You can probably guess what the AU is about by the song. I actually have an incomplete Flipaclip version that I abandoned.

I was gonna make a fun little formatted playlist post but I keep adding new songs so instead, I’m just gonna list all my favorites on the playlist, and also leave a link to it in case anyone is interested in it.
if you look down and see the stars, what will you see when you look up?
Art Is Dead - Bo Burnham: This song just screams Loquatius to me.
BLOODMONEY - Poppy: If episode 2 has proved anything for me, it’s proved that Zerxus is angry.
cult leader - KiNG MALA: I added both songs that Aabria included in her Insta takeover, but this one is definitely my favorite (mercy also fucking slaps tho).
Eleanor Rigby - Cody Fry: The vibes of this song are IMMACULATE, the epicness of the orchestra and then the sadness of the ending is just THE BEST.
Enemy - Imagine Dragons ft. JID: I love Arcane and Avalir reminds me a lot of Piltover, just the general vibe of the high and mighty city in the sky.
The Fall - Lovejoy: Rich wizards and their hubris.
Hell of a Ride - Bo Burnham: “We’ve had a hell of a ride, but you thought you were riding to heaven. Well, I motherfucking lied…”
How Wonderful - NateWantsToBattle: This is a song about a very obscure Undertale character named W.D. Gaster, and if you know then you know, and Vespin Chloras just gives me the same vibes.
I Don’t Want To Set the World On Fire - The Ink Spots: This song is just an “end of the world” song for me now.
Icarus - Bastille: Wizard hubris part 2
Nearer My God To Thee - Titanic Orchestra: I just keep seeing people bringing up the band playing on the Titanic as it’s sinking and so I googled the song because the imagery of Loquatius doing a final broadcast as their world ends is so compelling to me.
Sex Sells - Lovejoy: Another Loquatius song for me.

All the Cinephiles!
Talking films with filmmakers at TIFF 2019, including Bong Joon-ho, Beanie Feldstein and Daniel Radcliffe.
The 2019 Toronto International Film Festival brought pay-offs for the Letterboxd community from some heavily anticipated world premieres: Taika Waititi’s “anti-hate satire” Jojo Rabbit, Rian Johnson’s entertaining whodunnit, Knives Out, Marielle Heller’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Todd Phillips’ Joker, and the Canadian premieres of big-hitters like Palme d’Or winner Parasite, The Lighthouse, Bacurau and Marriage Story.
The following films also went over well with the Letterboxd members in attendance: Blood Quantum, Saint Maud, Color Out of Space, La belle époque, Waves, 37 Seconds, The Burnt Orange Heresy, About Endlessness, The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão, Uncut Gems, The Obituary of Tunde Johnson, Dolemite Is My Name, Just Mercy and documentaries The Australian Dream and Collective.
We took the chance to ask some of the many filmmakers on the ground in Toronto about films they love (and the films they were there to represent).

Parasite
“All the cinephiles, the film geeks!”
We had just one question for Bong Joon-ho: how does he feel about Parasite being not just our highest rated film this year, but this decade? “I’m so happy with that. All the cinephiles, the film geeks! Me, also the cinephile, so I’m very happy with that news, thank you!”
Choi Woo-shik, who plays Ki Woo, the son in Parasite’s poorer family, described what it’s like to be directed by the acclaimed filmmaker. “This is my second time working with director Bong. He gives very friendly but subtle, very descriptive direction to actors, so I think that gave us a lot of confidence to act better.”
His favorite scene to film? “It must be the scene where the whole family’s drinking together in our semi-basement, right before my friend comes from work and gives me the stone. It was really fun working with director Bong and Song Kang-ho as my father. It was perfect.”
‘Parasite’ opens in US cinemas on October 11.

How to Build a Girl
“That’s someone who’s really enjoying writing.”
Beanie Feldstein, admired for her work in Booksmart and Lady Bird, hit the TIFF red carpet for famed feminist writer Caitlin Moran’s adaptation of her semi-autobiographical novel, How to Build a Girl. Feldstein is a riot as Wolverhampton teen Johanna Morrigan, who reinvents herself as “Dolly Wilde”, a rock critic and “lady-sex-pirate”. Feldstein promised Letterboxd that if Moran’s next two books about Morrigan, which have been optioned by the same producing team, are also adapted for the screen, she’s in for the trilogy. “Of course! I mean, she’s my girl! I feel so protective of Johanna and I love her so much.”
We asked the reigning queen of the coming-of-age genre about the films that she loved, growing up: “I grew up obsessed with Funny Girl. Fanny Brice is my idol! Bridesmaids, my senior year of high school, was, like, the best movie ever. It was the most memorable theater-going experience of my life.”
How to Build a Girl is Caitlin Moran’s first film screenplay. (Working with her sister, she has previously adapted their family life for the British sitcom Raised by Wolves.) We asked Moran which screenwriters she most admires. “Oh my gosh. Who do I really love? If you read the scripts of Bruce Robinson, who did Withnail and I and How to Get Ahead in Advertising, those scripts read beautifully. All the description is there; he describes the sky looking the color of burnt sugar. That’s someone who’s really enjoying writing and you feel that vivacity come through on the page and in the character of Withnail. I love Bruce Robinson’s scripts.
“Juno was my favorite film of the last ten years. The way that that story was told just made me incredibly happy. I just love Diablo Cody so much. Like, when you read her stuff you feel her heart, sometimes her groin, and her massively exploding soul! So that’s what I’m always looking for. I just want to see things on screen that look real, that someone went ‘I’m going to have to write this or bust’. I hate films that look like someone went, ‘Oh, we’d better make a film that looks like a film’. I want people to have sat down and done a list of things where they’re, like, ‘What would I like to see on screen that I’ve never seen before?’
“And that’s what we tried to do with How to Build a Girl. I just literally, when I was writing the book, just [had] a list of things that I’d never heard anybody talk about with girls.”
‘How to Build a Girl’ does not yet have a scheduled release date.

The Lighthouse
“I think the fart jokes work.”
The Lighthouse, directed by Robert Eggers and co-written with his brother, Max, is a film that the word “bonkers” has been thrown around a lot to describe. Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson go head-to-head in the black-and-white, claustrophobic, psychedelic and disarmingly funny psychological horror.
Max told us: “I came up with the original conceit that, you know, the sort of horror-genre of a lighthouse, I’d never seen done. And then Rob needed a writing partner. Well, actually, he had said to me, ‘Do you mind if I steal this lighthouse idea?’ And I was like, ‘Sure, fine, whatever,’ not knowing where it would land me eventually!”
Writing as brothers, says Max, involved “a lot of turpentine being drank! That’ll make sense for people who see it later. No, I’m just joking. It was a perfect fit. We trust each other, and I think that’s the big thing about writing teams is you gotta trust each other. And brothers, you know, it’s easy. You’d hope it would be easy. Sometimes it’s not.”
When we suggested that the brotherly relationship likely influenced a lot of the flatulence comedy in The Lighthouse, Max agreed: “Yeah, again, it’s one of those things where we took risks. Comedy is about that. You’ve gotta be able to be honest and trust yourselves. We didn’t know how it was going to play but, thankfully, I think the fart jokes work.” (When asked at the TIFF Q&A whether those farts were real, Dafoe replied: “Half and half.”)
Robert, when asked about the film he remembers as inspiring him to think about filmmaking, immediately offered Star Wars, particularly because of the available behind-the-scenes coverage that aided the “discovery process”. Max couldn’t recall the first film that inspired him into a movie-making career, but “one that reaffirmed my work would be a film by Elem Klemov called Come and See, which is the greatest, one of the best films I’ve ever seen. Amazing film.”
‘The Lighthouse’ opens in US cinemas on October 18.

Jojo Rabbit
“Adults are ridiculous.”
“To me, Kak was so visceral and real.” That’s Jojo Rabbit producer Chelsea Winstanley talking about her imaginary childhood friend, for whom her family would set a place at the table and open doors, at her instruction. Jojo Rabbit’s writer-director Taika Waititi is also Winstanley’s husband, so her producing role naturally started early in the process, when they would share stories at home about childhood imaginary friends. Waititi plays the title character’s imaginary confidante: a stupid, vain, petulant and badly-dressed version of Nazi despot Adolf Hitler. It’s a character not found in ‘Caging Skies’, the Christine Leunens novel from which the film was adapted.
“We talked a lot, shared stories like that, so I think it’s very clever that he introduced that,” Winstanley explains. “It’s almost like we want to have some kind of heroes in our lives but we don’t know if they’re good or bad. Jojo doesn’t know the actions of adults. We’re just ridiculous. Adults are ridiculous. So it’s a really incredible way to show this kid that [Hitler is] not such a great hero.”
Winstanley, a director herself, was last at TIFF with the female-directed anthology film Waru, and produced the acclaimed documentary Merata: How Mum Decolonised the Screen, which was picked up by Ava DuVernay’s Array Releasing and is currently available on Netflix. “It’s amazing how I get messages, emails from people around the world who have watched it, because they can, thanks to Ava DuVernay. She championed this film to get out there. I have a massive girl crush on her.”
On the topic of inspiring women, Roman Griffin Davis, who has been gaining notice for his title role, praised his acting coach, New Zealand actor Rachel House: “She’s properly amazing. She’s a great actress and she’s very good at teaching acting. She kind of taught me how to act. Apart from my mother as well!” Fun fact: House is a long-time collaborator of Waititi’s (and voices Gramma Tala in Moana).
At the Jojo Rabbit Q&A, actor Stephen Merchant revealed the inspiration for his Nazi Gestapo officer: “I don’t think it’s going to come as a shock to anyone that I obviously watched Raiders of the Lost Ark. The great Ronald Lacey performance as the Nazi Gestapo officer… he’s very scary and terrifying so that to me seemed like a great guide; you can be comic but every so often you just turn on that chill factor.”
Meanwhile, Jojo Rabbit production designer Ra Vincent told us that the film Life is Beautiful—and the personal interests of filmmaker Sir Peter Jackson—were his key influences for the film’s design. “I’ve had quite a long relationship working with Peter Jackson and being around his interests, which are First World War memorabilia and stories. So I’ve had an opportunity to see how close to people’s hearts these stories are, and how it’s important to protect them.”
As for the films that made him want to be a filmmaker, Vincent, who began his movie career as a model maker, replied: “I think Star Wars did it to me. And also, oddly enough, Medusa [Ray Harryhausen’s work in Clash of the Titans], because of the claymation aspect to it. That’s my background.” Vincent is already working with Waititi on his next project, “a very nice little feel-good film about the American Samoa soccer team of 2011. It’s exciting to do a job at the beach!” (Michael Fassbender is reportedly in talks to play the team’s coach.)
‘Jojo Rabbit’ opens in the US on October 18.

Guns Akimbo
“Life’s too short to work with assholes.”
Daniel Radcliffe hit the red carpet this year for New Zealand director Jason Lei Howden’s Guns Akimbo, the follow-up to his micro-budget, metal-horror, splatter-fest Deathgasm. Also starring Samara Weaving and Rhys Darby, Guns Akimbo finds Radcliffe drawn into a live-streamed game in which guns have been bolted to his hands. It’s a far cry from Harry Potter and, looking over his recent output, we couldn’t help but comment that he must be having the time of his life picking roles as far from the boy-wizard as possible.
“I mean, I’m looking to be happy and live a nice life,” Radcliffe replied. “I’m very fortunate to be in a position where I can really pick and choose what I wanna do. No actor is in that position. That’s such a gift, so I’m very lucky to just get to work on stuff that I love and is maybe, I am told, weird, but I love it. And, yeah, also life’s too short to work with assholes, so I generally love to work with lovely people like Samara and Rhys and Jason. It’s very nice.”
Getting Radcliffe to name the film that made him want to work in movies is a tricky ask, since he started out so young. “That’s what’s weird about me is that I feel like most actors get into it by becoming a fan of film and then, like, ‘I wanna be an actor,’ whereas I was on film sets already by the time I realized I liked film. And I love film sets. I love being here. I feel like that’s what I fell in love with, was actually the experience of making things on set.” When pushed, he ponied up: “The first films I remember falling in love with are, like, Toy Story. Those are the first films that I remember seeing and going, ‘Oh, this is amazing’.”
Rhys Darby, who plays a down-and-out character named Glenjamin in Guns Akimbo, had been at the premiere of his friend Taika Waititi’s film the night before (Darby played Psycho Sam in Waititi’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople). “There’s nothing like it,” he said of Jojo Rabbit. “He manages every time to cast these fantastically comic-driven, gifted children, and [to] have so much pathos and heart. It was a triumph. I’m just jealous I wasn’t in it!”
Asked what the film was that made him want to get into the entertainment business, Darby responded: “Wow, that’s a good question. To be honest, I’ve always been a James Bond fan. I grew up watching the Roger Moore James Bonds, and it was the epic-ness of those 1980s films, which are ridiculous. The Roger Moore ones, there’s a lot of humor in them, there’s gadgets, and there’s these great locations, and I kind of dreamed of the idea of maybe being part of that world. It just seemed so ridiculous that it would never happen to a kid from Pakuranga, but it’s kinda happening!”
Darby recently achieved a dream of visiting Bond creator Ian Fleming’s home. “I actually went to Goldeneye! Yeah! Who would have thought that I’d get to go to Ian Fleming’s resort in Jamaica, and sit on his chair, where he wrote these novels? That was really special to me.”
‘Guns Akimbo’ does not yet have a scheduled release date.

My Top 10 Favorite Albums of 2018
When it comes to music, ideas of "good" or "bad" or "best" are purely subjective. Frankly, it's ridiculous to suggest that any one person, or even any one group, has the authority to decide what the best albums of the year are, even if they did have the capacity to listen to every single release. But I love these kind of lists anyway because, at their best, they provide people the chance to gush about the music they loved in a year, the albums that challenged them, brought them joy, and helped reshape their lives. I don't necessarily think music should be ranked and judged, but it absolutely should be explored, examined, and shared.
The following is exactly that. These are my ten favorite albums of 2018, the ten albums I spent the most time with, got the most out of, and loved more than anything else released this year (that I had a chance to listen to, at least). If you've heard some of these albums before, I hope I can help you find something new to appreciate, or at least remind you why you liked them in the first place; if you haven't, then I hope you find a new song, band, or album here to love.
Let's get to it:
10. MXPX -- MXPX: There were a few really strong albums competing for this final slot, but MXPX took it through sheer consistency. Every single song on this album is just an incredibly solid block of pop-punk, bolstered by some fun, yet often unexpectedly mature, lyrics. Mike Herrera and the rest of MXPX look backwards and forward simultaneously, reminiscing about their childhood and long history as a band, but also sharing the lessons they've learned along the way; on album stand-out "Moments Like This," Herrera specifically confronts the legacy he's leaving his family, and it's surprisingly poignant. MXPX is a blueprint for how any pop-punk band can mature without losing that youthful spark that makes the genre so dang fun in the first place.
Highlights: Rolling Strong, The Way We Do, Moments Like This
9. Justin Courtney Pierre -- In The Drink: Two grueling years after the demise of Motion City Soundtrack (one of my Top Five favorite bands), former frontman Justin Courtney Pierre has returned with a solo album that manages to capture much of the spirit of MCS, but of course, with a more personal, intimate spin. Pierre still graces listeners with his intricate wordplay and earworm hooks, but also highlights some techniques and instruments that rarely took prominence in MCS (the bouncy bass in "Shoulder the Weight" is a personal favorite). In The Drink cuts right to the core of every song, especially in the exhilarating title track; the album is blistering, economical, and often ruthless, not just musically (only two songs clock in at over three minutes), but also lyrically, examining some surprisingly dark scenarios with the honesty and careful empathy fans have come to expect from Pierre. It's great to have him back (I still miss Jesse's MOOG, though).
Highlights: Anchor, Shoulder the Weight, In The Drink
8. Jeff Rosenstock -- Post-: The first album of 2018 (seriously -- Post- was a surprise release on 1/1/18) remained urgent, relevant, and relatable throughout the entire year -- that's not good for the world, but it's great for Post-. Jeff Rosenstock's social commentary is as sharp as ever, deftly mixing the political and the personal, especially in tracks like opener "USA," which dives head-first into the paranoia, apathy, and hypocrisy of modern American living. The frustration and hopelessness of trying to change a broken system coats this album like dew, but Rosenstock's approachable and energetic strain of punk make them seem manageable -- or at least bearable -- nonetheless, and closer "Let Them Win" provides much needed catharsis and hope; it's a rally cry for a better future. Post- wasn't necessarily the follow-up to Worry. that anyone expected, but it's certainly the one we needed, right when we needed it.
Highlights: Powerlessness, 9/10, Let Them Win
7. The Penske File -- Salvation: Out of all the albums on this list, Salvation by far was the biggest (and happiest) surprise. Having never heard of them before, I saw The Penske File open for (the irresistibly fun) PKEW PKEW PKEW back in October and was blown away by their harmonies, by Alex Standen's ability to balance drums and lead vocals at the same time, and most of all, by a song that dug its way into my head and wouldn't let go. That song turned out to be album stand-out "Spin My History" (easily one of my top favorite new songs of the year), and thankfully, all the best aspects of The Penske File's live show translated perfectly over to Salvation. The vocals are the perfect combination of intensity, melody, and harmony; the lyrics expertly capture and unpack moments in time; the music itself (especially when accompanied by harmonica, which pops up in a few songs) wonderfully reflects the mood of each song, be it the reckless abandon of "Lakeshore" or the aching nostalgia of "American Basements." Thanks to Salvation, I could easily see The Penske File following in the blue collar punk footsteps of bands like the Menzingers, and that's high praise indeed.
Highlights: Spin My History, Come What May, Blessed Unrest
6. Joyce Manor -- Million Dollars to Kill Me: Joyce Manor has never been a band content to make the same album twice, and Million Dollars to Kill Me not only continues the musical evolution that began on 2016's Cody, but manages to run an entire musical gamut in under 25 minutes. Million Dollars to Kill Me shows off Joyce Manor's impressive range, leaping from something approaching hardcore ("Up The Punks") to shoegaze ("Gone Tomorrow") to ballads ("I'm Not the One") to even doo wop ("Silly Games"); lead singer Barry Johnson likewise moves between the frenetic, frantic yowls of "Up The Punks" or "Big Lie" to the gentle, sing-songy joy of "Wildflowers," revealing new facets to his voice and thus finding new notes for Joyce Manor to hit. Underneath it all, though, lies some wonderfully classic emo, with Johnson channeling intelligent, introspective, and bittersweet lyrics into each and every track. Not every song on Million Dollars to Kill Me is going to work for every listener, but every single one of them is guaranteed to leave an impression.
Highlights: Big Lie, Million Dollars to Kill Me, Wildflowers
5. Bad Moves -- Tell No One: On first listen, it might be Tell No One's flawless harmonies that most catch your attention, or perhaps the bouncy, infectious melodies of its early tracks. Spend some time with it, though, and Tell No One has so much more to offer. Bad Moves makes some truly ambitious musical leaps here, especially on tracks like "Out of Reach," whose bridge and outro layers several different, contrasting harmonies over a darkly ominous riff; it's the musical equivalent of standing at the edge of a hurricane, and it's exhilarating. Ultimately, though, it may be Tell No One's lyrics that leave the greatest impression. Bad Moves creates anthems for those on the outskirts of society; Tell No One features songs about dealing with disappointing your family, forbidden romances, dark family secrets, growing up queer, facing police harassment, and the toll hiding parts of yourself can take on you, but also some uplifting tracks about using everything you've got to make life better for everyone around you. There's albums I liked more this year, but I don't think there's any lyrics that hit home for me harder than the ones on Tell No One.
Highlights: Spirit FM, Out of Reach, Missing You
4. The Get Up Kids -- Kicker: Kicker is the Get Up Kids record I've wanted for more than a decade now; it's a band recapturing lightning in a bottle. The first three tracks channel the pop-punk glory of the Red Letter Day/Something to Write Home About era without copying it wholesale (there's a rawness to the guitars and Matt Pryor's voice that was absent on those releases; it's very rock and roll), and the lyrics take that trademark Get Up Kids earnestness and update it for 2018, with Pryor and Jim Suptic tackling topics like regret, responsibility, and family with the same honesty and emotional intensity they once saved for tales of adolescent love and heartbreak. And then comes the closer, "My Own Reflection," which sounds like nothing the Get Up Kids have ever done before, a track driven by one of James Dewees' best synth-lines, some propulsive drums, and a striking, surprising bit of profanity. It's somehow upbeat and downbeat simultaneously, totally bittersweet, and thus emo in a nutshell, while also transcending so many of the genre's (and this band's) most common cliches; if these four songs are the future of the Get Up Kids, then it's a bright one indeed. The main reason Kicker isn't ranked higher on this list is because it's an EP rather than a full record (it's harder to keep this level of quality up for 12 tracks instead of 4), but let's not mince words: every single song on this EP is perfect.
Highlight: My Own Reflection
3. Save Face -- Merci: Merci would be ambitious even if it wasn't Save Face's debut release -- it's a concept album about addiction and the way it can destroy lives and relationships, accompanied by music videos for each and every track, linking together to form a visual novel of sorts. What's even more impressive than all that ambition, though, is the fact that it all works -- the overall concept forms a compelling narrative on its own, but should still resonate with anyone who's dealt with addiction or mental illness, with heartbreak and loss, with self-hatred or self-destructive habits. All those ideas are packaged within some truly explosive tunes -- Save Face's riffs are so big it's a wonder they can even be contained within the record, and singer Tyler Povanda's voice cracks with passion and mania, accompanied by some cathartic, soul-piercing screams, yet Povanda also has the range to capture the smaller, more nuanced emotions beneath all the outsized drama. The simple melodies reveal more and more layers the more you listen to them, creating a record I've returned to over and over, consistently, throughout 2018. Merci is almost as addictive as the substances its songs highlights, although in this case, that's a feature, not a bug.
Highlights: Bad, Plans, Love
2. Saves the Day -- 9: There's a line from their song "It's Such a Beautiful World" that sums up both Saves the Day and their newest album, 9, perfectly: "Let them say what they say/we're gonna play what we play." That instinct has proven polarizing at times, but as an absolute Saves the Day fanatic, I've always found it a joy and privilege to join the band as they follow their muse, and thankfully, 9 is no exception. 9 is an investigation and celebration of Saves the Day's history and legacy; some listeners have criticized this as being self-indulgent, but Saves the Day has always been a band that's channeled very specific scenarios into relatable and cathartic emotion, and at its best, 9 does just that, from the power and joy of friendship ("Side By Side") to nostalgia and the way our experiences help us change and grow ("Rendezvous"), all of it wrapped up in the power music has to bring people together (and if that last point's not something you can appreciate, then I'm not sure how you even found this list). Meanwhile, "Rosé'" provides a classic Saves the Day diss track that wouldn't feel that out of place on Stay What You Are, while the 22 minute "29" transforms frontman Chris Conley's entire life story into a sprawling epic that needs to be heard to believed. 9 also provides an opportunity for each and every member of the band to show off; lead guitarist Arun Bali continues to highlight his ability to shred in increasingly cool and unique ways, Rodrigo Palma sneaks fun bass flourishes into every song, absolutely taking charge of "1997," and Conley stretches his voice to unexpected heights, be it the yowls of "Side By Side" or the falsetto of "Saves the Day." Hell, they even kick 9 off by writing their own theme song. If you can't appreciate that, this probably isn't the album for you, but man, that is my exact kind of jam.
Highlights: Side By Side, Rosé, 29
1. The Wonder Years -- Sister Cities: I can't remember the last time I've seen an album become an essential part of a band's canon as fast as Sister Cities has, especially considering how far The Wonder Years are into their career at this point. Sister Cities is undeniably a Wonder Years album despite sounding almost nothing like what's come before, and in large part, that's due to Dan Campbell's sheer skill as a storyteller. The songs on Sister Cities pick up the ideas of compassion, connectivity, and home introduced on previous albums and take them global; Campbell discovers the similarities between his relationship and the relationship of a homeless couple despite all their differences, finds a lifeline from his overwhelming grief half a world away, and just overall finds power in exploring what holds us together as human beings rather than what splits us apart. Even the music videos tap hard into these ideas; last winter I wrote about how the video for "Sister Cities" finds power in connection, and its follow up, "Raining in Kyoto," expands upon this by cutting back and forth between life in Kyoto and Philadelphia, showing how, no matter where you go, people are just trying to live their lives the best they can. Lyrically, Campbell just keeps getting better and better, creating vivid metaphors and word pictures and finding perfect turns of phrases; he's straight-up the best in the biz at knowing just when and how to use profanity to the maximum effect (seriously, nobody else should be allowed to use the word "goddamn" in a song until they can do it even half as well as Campbell does in "Pyramids of Salt" or "Flowers Where Your Face Should Be"). Musically, Sister Cities takes big risks, and finds success, in going small more often than not, but reaches its greatest heights in closer "The Ocean Grew Hands To Hold Me," a song that just builds and builds until it reaches this epic swell of pure catharsis that just washes over you like the ocean. Honestly, Sister Cities is so emotional that it can sometimes be hard to listen to. That kind of power is that makes it my favorite album of 2018.

LOOSE ENDS/FUTURE HEAD CANONS “Luke and Vader Save the Galaxy” - Some final snippets in this universe as requested focusing on what happens for our favorite clones in the future. As you can see, I stole my favorite ideas from the EU. The rest of the masterpost you can find on my main Tumblr page. Thanks everyone!
-The holonet figures out Anakin and Padme are married and have twins near the end of the Tatooine campaign. (Not that the they were hiding it, but it certainly didn’t help that Hack Squad had set up several holomedia accounts and groups for clone brothers to post and share photos and stories and keep in touch with each other. Several of the troopers had holocameras and like taking pictures of their Jedi General goofing off and being something other than a stoic Jedi.) Holosnaps of Anakin embracing Padme and carrying his children cause a massive crash of several popular holomedia sites. The Jedi Order neither censured nor expelled him. When Ventress later posted her own holosnaps of Obi-Wan and Duchess Satine, the Jedi Order again said nothing. As Master Windu later remarked when some journalists just wouldn’t leave him alone, the Order had much more important business to take care of and deal with.
-The GAR reformed under the Reconstruciton Accords into the Republic Reconstruction Forces or RRF, and was no longer just a military force. The Force sensitive clones form the Jedi Corps branch of the RRF.  Luke’s first students are clones but he is not adverse to teaching anyone who has the ability, regardless of age and his students take up the tradition. Force training is offered at nearly every Home Base where clones have made their communities on half a dozen different worlds. Many parents choose not to give up their children for Search when their children can learn how to be Jedi and stay in touch with their families. It leads to widespread changes within the Order and in the centuries that follow, the time will be referred to by scholars and lore masters as the Era of Reconciliation between a variety of Force traditions both old and new.
-Luke continues to help people and travel the galaxy with the RRF and his students. He opens a formal Jedi academy and training facility on Yavin IV and the planet is claimed as a formal home planet for the clones. He is confronted by the Noghri some years later who have tracked him down and they pledge loyalty to him in honor of what he and Vader did to protect their planet. The clones and the Noghri warriors get along like a house on fire and together manage to cause even more chaos and help an even greater number of people throughout the galaxy.
-Luke visits the Order’s Temple on Coruscant only once at Master Plo and Master Kenobi’s invitation. During the tour he asks them quite candidly why they are bothering to reconstruct the Temple over what feels like a Sith Shrine that is seeping malevolence into the very air. Master Jocasta Nu who overhears the question, fires back that he is the foolish one settling his Academy on Yavin IV. Luke thanks her for her concern but informs her that the Sith Ghost of Exar Kun was handily disposed of with the help of ghost!Vader and his students before anyone moved into the old Temple structure and the planet now is a beacon of Light. Coruscant, cannot say the same. The Order moves off Coruscant within two years after Luke’s first and only visit. The land still belongs to them though and they let the gardens retake the entire Temple District before they leave Courscant.
-Luke finds time to keep up with racing and ensures that when his old model X-Wing is finally released onto the market he buys one for his personal use. It isn’t the same without Artoo, though.  He still is invited out with clones for nights on the town. He visits dozens of systems and explores the galaxy. He keeps a careful distance from Anakin and Padme’s family, not wanting to interfere until Leia attends Young Legislators Camp one summer and in an effort to stop Luke from moping dejectedly around the house for being abandoned by his sister, Anakin brings Luke to Yavin IV for Jedi summer camp. Luke and Luke bond and are so similar in mannerism and mood that they spend the entire summer joined at the hip.  The clones and those familiar with clone culture take it in stride. They don’t find it odd at all to have little Luke following grown up Luke around.
-Ventress settles up the bets she took for the 501st eventually. She takes one look at Luke and Luke on Yavin IV and knows who the winner is. She sends the substantial credit pot to Chatterbox without a word.
-Satine and Obi-Wan bicker over the finer points of pacificism and the Jedi Code for the rest of their lives.
-Ahsoka Tano delays her Knighting by over two years, choosing instead to stay with Anakin and when not with Anakin, traveling with various clone troopers (but mostly Captain Rex and Commander Cody) as part of their ongoing mission to tackle the Datapad of Disasters that Luke maintains from his Father’s memory. She insists that Barriss is Knighted alongside her which further delays things since it takes at least the approval of 4 High Council Members to be present for the Knighting outside the Temple. After her Knighting, a party rivaling the celebration after the Battle of Theed is held.
-Barriss Offee ends up leading a group of medic clones on mercy missions all across the galaxy. She walks unmolested through brutal firefights and defies all governments and treaties to treat the sick and the wounded. She ends up in command of the Medical Corp of the RRF. It is rumored she has not raised her saber in attack or defense since the day the chipped clones were triggered, and only then to defend others, not herself. She never returns to the Temple, but at Ahsoka’s insistence joins her friend at her Knighting and receives official Knighthood herself.
–Ventress always wanted revenge. It was what drove her to the Dark Side. Luke had once told her the best revenge was living well. She isn’t sure that she is living well, being the friend of largely moronic battle droids and the diplomatic voice of the Separatist Alliance systems before and after the Reconciliation Accords are signed.  She never wanted power or influence, but now she has both. When she grumped about it to Luke he laughed and says that is what made her a good leader. She never marries but she and Quilan Vos have four terrifying daughters together.
-Fives takes several clone apprentices over the years, and becomes a formidable leader and eventual high admiral of the RRF navy. It is one of the proudest days of his life when he takes command. With Echo serving with him, they lay the groundwork for clones to live and work in a variety of different arenas not just in military operations, always looking to help the innocent and those suffering above all else.
–Hardcase is the first of the clone brothers to take an apprentice and begins training Loops as soon as he can. The two of them are tireless in coordinating and leading the decades long battle against the remnants of the Zygerrian slave empire. In the end, Hardcase sacrifices his life to save his former apprentice and thousand of child slaves and finally destroys entire slaving civilization once and for all. He is memorialized with a statute at the Jedi Academy on Yavin IV and another in the Order’s Temple proper.  Loops however, believes that the most important memorial to his dear teacher and older brother are the several drinking songs written in his honor still sung in cantinas around the galaxy to this day.
–Chatterbox doesn’t so much choose an apprentice as an apprentice named Rob chooses him. Rob is cheerful and talks enough for the both of them and latches on to his older brother and won’t let go. People wonder how exactly Chatterbox manages to train Rob to be a powerful Jedi since Chatterbox is still very much a brother of few words. Eventually, Chatterbox succeeds 99 as the representative of the clone brothers. It is his gift of listening to the Force that proves instrumental in reaching a peaceful resolution to the galactic invasion the Reformed Republic faces fifty years after the death of Sidious. His one and only speech on the matter was so persuasive it is remembered as the catalyst for peace and responsible for saving trillions of lives. Chatterbox is named one of the most influential speakers of the time, an irony that never fails to have his brothers’ all laughing until they cry. In the future, historians will mourn the fact that only one recording of Chatterbox’s speeches survived because with his powers of oration and his name he obviously was a prolific speaker. It is such a shame that all other records of Chatterbox’s public speaking have been lost, historians mourn centuries in the future.
–Waxer and Boil go back to Ryloth and there an orphaned Numa remembers her brothers and isn’t going to let them go again. They end up adopting her and several other war orphans. Eventually they lead galactic efforts to aid the orphans of the Clone Wars finding homes. Many children are adopted by the newly freed clone soldiers following their example.  With encouragement from Senator Organa and Senator Amidala, they eventually leave the army proper and focus on leading the humanitarian efforts under the banner of the RRF.
-Captain Rex and Commander Cody like the good soldiers they always were, never retire. Their aging slows to a crawl for several decades before continuing on at a moderate pace. They spend the rest of their lives working with the Luke’s Jedi and their favorite Generals and Commanders maintaining peace in the galaxy. While Anakin Skywalker will always be considered the General of the 501st and Obi-Wan Kenobi will always have the loyalty of the 212th, the two battalions frequently operate under the joint command of Ahsoka Tano and send troopers to support Luke’s growing squads of Force sensitive clones on missions.
When they have free time, Rex’s favorite thing to do is to travel with Commander Tano to visit the Skywalker family and the Jedi Academy on Yavin IV. Cody loves to work training the new cadets who are interested in joining the RRF, showing his younger brothers how it is really done. Cody is also one of the few active military clones that Duchess Satine welcomes to Mandalore.
-Over time, the 104th reforms, takes in members of the Coruscant Home Guard and becomes a permanent detachment protecting the Order wherever it may call home. Master Plo couldn’t be happier.  Plo Koon is the first Order master to take a clone cadet as a Jedi Padawan on the understanding that there will be none of this “no attachment” business. Master Koon agrees.
-When Luke Skywalker, taught the Force by his father and by his other self and by half a dozen clone Force Sensitives and Obi-Wan reaches his teen years, Yoda himself travels to Naboo and asks if Luke Skywalker will be his padawan learner. The discussion that follows at the twins’ birthday party is an interesting one to say the least.
-It is a good thing that the RRF diversifies from the GAR. Fifty odd years after the death of Sidious during an invasion from the Unknown Region, the RRF with its Jedi Corps, its Refugee programs, Medcorps, Slicer teams, and its good old fashion troopers are quick to react and stand with the Jedi Order to defend the galaxy. They manage to stop the fleet before it passes through the Outer Rim. It is a costly campaign and in the end it is Luke using the Force to throw the alien fleet out of orbit of the Dantooine system that wins the day and allows the rest of the fleet to arrive under the command of Admiral Fives and General Anakin Skywalker and his children and stop the invasion before it starts.
