Who are your writing inspirations?
Good question from a good boy! Here, have a worksheet to fill out while I think about this. It'll be hot, I promise ;)
In the tf community, my entry point was finding @takeovertales years and years ago. I also really admire @aardvarkia, and the Craftsman and Mr. Cavanaugh were huge influences on my tf writing. Derek Williams and Cris Kane (links to their pages on GaySpiralStories) are huge influences on my tf writing and interests as well. Jockhole Transformations by Abra Cadabra on Nifty rewired my brain. In terms of art that inspires me, you can't go wrong with theobromic's transformation sequences.
Beyond the tf community, I really admire the writing of Diane Duane and Diana Wynne Jones. N.K. Jemisin also influences my work a lot. I wish that I could write like Ursula K. Le Guin. I actually don't read very much published erotica, but I'll be first in line if someone in the tf community gets a book deal.
Did you finish that homework I gave you? The Perfect Guy... poor handwriting, punk music, favourite colour blue, short blue hair, green eyes, pale skin, lots of hair, short beard, smokey voice, slender mesomorph, punk-ass clothes or nothing at all, big penis, no underwear, gay slut, total dummy. Hello, perfect guy, welcome to your new life.

what inspires you the most when you’re writing songs? does it just come to you? is it based on prior experiences? i’m so curious!!!
literature, surrealist paintings, and people inspire me most :)
i write tons outside of writing songs. usually i refer to what i've already written. if i'm feeling a bit blocked i'll write poetry for surrealist paintings (often frida kahlo or remedios varo)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harmony- Remedios Varo  Sun and Life- Frida Kahlo
for example, i wrote poems for each of these paintings. i made up stories for them. for this remedios varo painting i imagined the women in the walls were spirits of genius, and the person in the chair was an artist that they were communicating with to make a song. it reminded me of how it feels when i make songs, like an outside source is speaking through me. one day i'll probably use that idea for a song of mine <3

The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa
i like picking out books that are slightly densely poetic. i’ve been frequenting the book of disquiet lots lately. i’ll usually only read a page or three at a time but i’ll read them with immense attention and care. i’ll annotate and make note of words/ phrases that spark something in my brain. then i tuck them away in my notes app and write a few poems based on whatever sparks something. having your own library of ideas is essential for having inspiration at your fingertips.
the people that inspire me tend to have a confusing quality about them. they have an air of softness and a quiet sadness that most people ignore. they listen intently to those that have something valuable to say (i am drawn to people that value intellectual qualities over appearance and other qualities, etc.) they almost always have aquarius/ air placements. i like how they look at people when they talk. i like how ppl stare off to corners in the room (because eye contact is too intimate for them) and they continue to stare and stare and absorb every word that expels from the lips that they find most interesting. whether my lips or not, i love feeling, and watching, them absorb. they have a quiet sadness, as i’ve said, but also a quiet genius. every person i’ve fallen for has been a muse to me because they have been uniquely talented, and had a music knowledge that sent me down paths of euphoric creative discoveries. thus, they inspire not only the stories in my songs, but also the sound itself.
if you scroll through my diary entries on this blog you’ll find a specific initial pops up more than the others. he was the muse for my upcoming album and all the songs i’ve released this year so far.

Someone may have already asked this but what's some of your biggest inspirations when it comes to your art style?
Oooh I love questions like this, even though it’s so hard for me to narrow it down to a few people. I’ll try my best though!!
Alphonse Mucha - I love art nouveau, also I want the hair I draw to look like how he did hair
Old Disney animated movies, particularly Atlantis - The hands in Atlantis are masterful. I also like when character designs have a “flow” to them, I try to get all the curves in my character designs to have a pleasant flow like that.
Bryan Lee O’Malley - When I was a teen I would do studies from Scott Pilgrim, particularly I remember learning to draw forearms by doing that
Tracy J Butler - Her webcomic Lackadaisy is GORGEOUS. She has tutorials on expressions and stuff and I would study from them, especially during highschool
Ben Caldwell - His character designs are fantastic. The bodies have a lot of that “flow” I look for, and he even has tutorial books (which I’ve been meaning to buy forever but I have been able to look at them at the library)
Simply Too Many Digital Artists To List - I was a child of the internet so naturally I learned by studying my peers. This one is even harder to narrow down because the list of digital artists I admire and do studies of is really really long. If you ever want a list I can try, but suffice it to say, I follow a lot of amazing artists!!
Thank you for your question, I love talking about art so much 🥳

advice i think we should tell children is that when adults say stuff like ‘now that i’m an adult i get really excited about stuff like coffee tables and bathrooms and rugs etc’ they don’t mean ‘and now i don’t care about blorbo and squimbus from my childhood tv shows anymore’ bc your average adult still loves all the same pop culture stuff they always did; they just have a greater appreciation for the mundane as well. growing up just means you can enjoy life twice as much now. you can get really excited about a new stuffed animal AND about a new kitchen sponge. peace and love

Big fan of sun motifs in characters not necessarily being about positivity and happiness and how they're so " bright and warm" but instead being about fucking brutal they are.
Radiant. A FORCE of nature that will turn you to ash. That warmth that burns so hot it feels like ice. Piercing yellow and red and white. A character being a Sun because you cannot challenge a Sun without burning alive or taking everything down with them if victorious.

because sometimes there are invisible tests and invisible rules and you're just supposed to ... know the rule. someone you thought of as a friend asks you for book recommendations, so you give her a list of like 30 books, each with a brief blurb and why you like it. later, you find out she screenshotted the list and send it out to a group chat with the note: what an absolute freak can you believe this. you saw the responses: emojis where people are rolling over laughing. too much and obsessive and actually kind of creepy in the comments. you thought you'd been doing the right thing. she'd asked, right? an invisible rule: this is what happens when you get too excited.
you aren't supposed to laugh at your own jokes, so you don't, but then you're too serious. you're not supposed to be too loud, but then people say you're too quiet. you aren't supposed to get passionate about things, but then you're shy, boring. you aren't supposed to talk too much, but then people are mad when you're not good at replying.
you fold yourself into a prettier paper crane. since you never know what is "selfish" and what is "charity," you give yourself over, fully. you'd rather be empty and over-generous - you'd rather eat your own boundaries than have even one person believe that you're mean. since you don't know what the thing is that will make them hate you, you simply scrub yourself clean of any form of roughness. if you are perfect and smiling and funny, they can love you. if you are always there for them and never admit what's happening and never mention your past and never make them uncomfortable - you can make up for it. you can earn it.
don't fuck up. they're all testing you, always. they're tolerating you. whatever secret club happened, over a summer somewhere - during some activity you didn't get to attend - everyone else just... figured it out. like they got some kind of award or examination that allowed them to know how-to-be-normal. how to fit. and for the rest of your life, you've been playing catch-up. you've been trying to prove that - haha! you get it! that the joke they're telling, the people they are, the manual they got- yeah, you've totally read it.
if you can just divide yourself in two - the lovable one, and the one that is you - you can do this. you can walk the line. they can laugh and accept you. if you are always-balanced, never burdensome, a delight to have in class, champagne and glittering and never gawky or florescent or god-forbid cringe: you can get away with it.
you stare at your therapist, whom you can make jokes with, and who laughs at your jokes, because you are so fucking good at people-pleasing. you smile at her, and she asks you how you're doing, and you automatically say i'm good, thanks, how are you? while the answer swims somewhere in your little lizard brain:
how long have you been doing this now? mastering the art of your body and mind like you're piloting a puppet. has it worked? what do you mean that all you feel is... just exhausted. pick yourself up, the tightrope has no net. after all, you're cheating, somehow, but nobody seems to know you actually flunked the test. it's working!
aren't you happy yet?
