Kamiya Hiroshi Talks About His ‘Fateful Encounter’ with ‘Natsume’s Book of Friends’ on ‘Say You to Yo Asobi’
Tumblr media
Kamiya Hiroshi, who voices the protagonist Natsume Takashi in the new animated film, "Natsume’s Book of Friends: The Waking Rock and the Strange Visitor," currently playing in theatres, made a guest appearance on "Say You to Yo Asobi" [lit: Night Entertainment with Voice Actors] hosted by voice actors Namikawa Daisuke and Ishikawa Kaito.
Tumblr media
In the program, he talked about the new film during the segment "If You Just Watch, You’ll Enjoy It! Natsume’s Book of Friends’ Recommendations", and matched voice actors to various youkai during  "Voice Actor Personification Meeting ~Youkai Edition~".
The TV anime "Natsume’s Book of Friends" began its first season in 2008 and has now reached its sixth season. Kamiya, who has been involved with "Natsume’s Book of Friends" for about 12 years, said, "Everyone loves Midorikawa-sensei’s original drawings". He revealed, "Without Midorikawa-sensei’s original work, there is no anime" - a principle that has been upheld this entire time.
Tumblr media
Additionally, Kamiya referenced his fateful encounter with the "Natsume’s Book of Friends" anime.
Kamiya already had a cat named Nyanko-sensei before he started working on the series. The name was taken from one of his favourite manga, "The Funny Judo Champion" [Inakappe Taishō - a manga and anime from the late 60’s and early 70’s]. A fan told Kamiya that there was a series with a cat that had the same name; he noted that he was then drawn in by its charm.
Kamiya participated in the [Natsume] Drama CD, and after auditioning, proceeded to work on the anime adaptation. He also spoke about how deeply attached to Natsume he is, as it was around this time that his career as a voice actor started to take off.
Tumblr media
At the end, Kamiya spoke about how "There is always one story that somehow resonates. When you encounter it, every episode transforms into something important; it’s a work that you experience with wonder." When he said "I hope you come across such moments", many audience members commented "I totally understand!", "I get it….", and that "It was a very cherished work", and how they "could feel Kamiya’s love for Natsume".
ABEMA premium members can also watch "Say You to Yo Asobi Premium #27", which includes exclusive footage.

Why does everyone hate Mori soo much!!!!
The show would be soo bland without his sorry ass interfering every now and then.
I actually like the way his character is presented!
(No hate please, if you don't like mori feel free to skip)
So I've been doing a bit research and kinda a character study for a fic i'm writing. And ofc Mori has a part in it.
And so, i go on and look through all his scenes. Read through a few fics to see his interactions with other characters. And do a bit on character analysis as a whole.
It baffles me how people just downright hate him or plain misunderstand his Character as whole.
Like, i don't usually try to defend characters online because everyone has their reasons and rationale, but the whole thing with Mori seems so absurd to me, because we've seen the villains do soo much worse!
Canonically speaking, while he has done some bad shit, he's not the worst in the series either!!!
BSD has always taken the 'it can't get any worse than this' phase and proved it wrong. Mori was supposed to be 1st/2nd season's antagonist.
And no, i don't mean to say that he is not evil. He is downright evil, a mastermind through and through. He's the Port Mafia's boss for gods sake, the most dangerous underground organization, he has a reputation to live up to!
Yes, he is a calculating bastard. He measures each and every move and knows about warfare in depth, and he wields his knowledge as a weapon very well.
Is he a paedophile? Maybe. It's been implied once or twice (if i'm not wrong)
Was his treatment of yosano wrong? Definitely! and he is an ass for that!
But he is SUPPOSED to be an ASS!!! That's the whole point of that character! And i believe those are the character that bring sooo much excitement to the storyline!
But everyone seem to have misunderstood his character soo much or just doesn't want to see the whole picture. And I used to think Chuuya was misunderstood!!!
You remember, when in 15, Dazai was given his first mission as a PM member and that time Mori said 15!Dazai reminded him of himself?
Now think back to what 15!Dazai was -
a teen
suicide maniac
a genius who has never been surprised
manipulative freak
acting carefree and harmless but having a killing intent hidden in plain sight
Now put it in this perspective,
Mori had a life before war that we have no idea about. He was a doctor. He was desperate to win the war by any means, even if it included bringing a child in the military camp, even if it meant keeping a death loop going on and on, even if it meant permanently traumatizing the soldiers.
But WHY?
Mori, as it has been stated multiple times, is someone who is always calculating and rational. He does not let his emotions overtake his decision making, thus making him cold towards others. But there must be a reason why he turned out to be so.
After war, he started working underground, creating a neutral zone for criminals. He knew Natsume sensei before that time. I always wounder why would Natsume entrust his vision to someone like Mori (along with Fukuzawa), if he was really a lost case.
After the whole fight with Fukuzawa over Yosano; he turned to take control of Port Mafia. Maybe he wanted to take Yosano with him then, to create an army of unstoppable ability users.
But the war was over. Then why would he need to do that?
Mori is one of those few characters whose backstory is not at all known to us. I can only think of Dazai and Fyodor other than him with no clear backstory. This makes him a dangerous wild card in a lot of situations. We saw that with Tachihara and Verlaine (completely different circumstances but instead of killing them he kept them close)
But then i read fics that depict him as feral and unhinged, portraying him as a predator who took advantage of poor poor Chuuya and/or Dazai, making them do horrible stuff without their consent.
Like, DID WE EVEN WATCH THE SAME SHOW?
Dazai and Chuuya have been unhinged wayyyy BEFORE they met each other or Mori.
Dazai is not some soft kid, who was physically and sexually assaulted, he was not made to behave tough with Akutagawa. And he certainly was not afraid of Mori. Does Dazai have PTSD related to Mori? Maybe, but in regards to Oda's death. That's it.
Chuuya is not someone who would sit still and take punishment from scalpels and whatnot because he fucked up a mission. Mori is not a fool to send Chuuya on a death mission just because he is afraid he'll take his place or to spite Dazai.
Does this bring a rather angst narrative to Soukoku? Yes it does. Does it make sense? if it's cannon compliant, no it does not!
Soukoku does not need Mori to be the bad guy to come together!
(i think he is no 1 Soukoku shipper himself)
He is not soft but he is not unhinged either. He knows how the ways of war work and he knows there can be no emotions involved if you have to win the war.
You don't always get such characters who are so morally grey, they do everything bad, they are supposed to be evil but still, the plot will be lost without them. Mori is such a great example of that.
Wanting to have peace and staying by the rightful path is all well and good. But where there is light, there will be darkness (because it's definition itself says its absence of light, so you can't exactly have one without the other). And without anyone to keep a check on that darkness, it will consume all.
Without Mori taking over Port Mafia, if we recollect how the previous boss had lead, Yokohama would have been way too bloodier and chaotic than it is now.
Plus, i don't think if Mori was such a bad boss, all of Port Mafia would jump in to protect him against agency during the Cannibalism arc. Hell, even if the grunts did not have a say in it, the executives and commanders did. And we saw them all - Chuuya, Kouyou, Kajii, Black Lizards; hell even Akutagawa and Higuchi were there! And that fight was after he had insisted no altercations with the agency.
My point is, can i have a normal representation of such a great character?

Hi....If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
Hi! Thank you for asking ❤️ On general (no specific order):
Coraline, Neil Gaiman (book)
I read it for the first time in elementary school. I completely fell in love with the story. I was young and I remember being quite impressed with it (for a children's book, it's quite shocking huh). Years later I reread the book and felt again as if I was reading it for the first time. It's been my favorite book for a long time. I always read it every now and then.
Friends (TV series)
My comfort show. I watch it at any time to have fun or just pass the time. I've watched it so many times that I know almost everything about this series. I can talk about it for hours or write a 10,000-word thesis about it.
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle (manga)
My favorite manga of my collection. My little paper treasure, as I like to call it. I really like this story, it has everything I enjoy in a piece of media (fantasy, mystery, plot twists, angst, well-developted characters, etc). I really wanted to erase my memories and read it as if it were the first time again. It is breathtaking.
One Piece (anime)
Despite having seen Naruto first, One Piece is somehow more memorable for me. Whether due to its long duration or the complexity of the character/world build, One Piece is a remarkable work that I always talk about when talking about favorites.
Shinya Shokudo (manga, TV series)
Talking about Shinya Shokudo is not easy. Whether it's the manga or the TV series, it touches me on several levels. A feeling of nostalgia for something I didn't experience, coziness and tranquility. There are few media that bring me such nice feelings. It's simple but touching. Even though I have zero kitchen skills, I love seeing Master cooking different dishes and the customers telling their unique stories.
Hajime no Ippo (anime, manga)
It's a lifetime series, published since long before I was born. I've been reading it for so many years already! I always say I need to see its ending before I die. It's something that I simply have as a goal in life lol Seeing Ippo reaching the end of his story. (Mori sensei please be healthy, okay?)
World Trigger (anime, manga)
Amazing story, amazing characters, amazing world building. Everything about World Trigger is amazing to me. I'm a big fan of science fiction and World Trigger delivers everything and much more. The only sad thing about it is the very slow pace for the story to progress, but we have to be grateful that even with health problems, Ashihara sensei keeps going. I'll always support him and wish to see the end of WT someday.
Supernatural (TV series)
I watched it for the first time when I was a kid and it scared the hell out of me. Ever since then I've been watching SPN from time to time. I love the cheap drama and the quirky stories. Although, for me the quality of the series has deteriorated a lot over the seasons and I don't understand the fandom tbh. But that's another topic I guess.
Tokyo Revengers (manga)
Tokyo Revengers started as an obsession and has remained as a favorite. Time travel stories are always a must-read / must-watch for me and TR knows what they're doing with it. I love protagonists who at the beginning are nothing, but over time manage to develop into someone better in order to achieve their goals. Also, Mikey has become a very imporant character for me, I can say that in the end, he was pretty much the reason why I read the whole thing.
*I didn't include movies because I would need a whole list to fit all of them, there are so many that I would like to mention.
**Honorable mentions: mushishi, natsume yuujinchou, link click, nge, golden kamuy, pandora hearts, yu yu hakusho, dorohedoro, hxh, naruto, bsd, clamp's works, junji ito's works.

Can I ask your top 10 favorite anime? And your top 10 favorite manga? Feel free if you want to write the reasons of why you love them or not.....Thanks if you want to answer.

Anime
Naruto
My Hero Academia
One Piece
Natsume Yuujinchou
Play It Cool, Guys
Buddy Daddies
The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague
Code Geass
ReLIFE
Dokyuusei (Classmates)

Busu ni Hanataba o
Trace

top 10 anime is always the most difficult question for me. i've watched so many, but hardly any of them became my favorite. the top 3 are the anime i rewatched & talked about the most. on the contrary, i've just started reading manga habitually last year, and i almost always liked what i read.
tbh, i really wanted to put the reasons why i liked them, but i'm too lazy to do it🙏💦

Natsume Yuujinchou Chapter 116 (“Younger Cousin” part 4)
Here's the last chapter, finally! As always, be aware there may be translation errors on my part but it should overall be pretty accurate to what's going on.
Mountain Youkai: How many times, for how many years and months has it been like this? I forgot long ago. Whatever I steal, whatever I eat, I’m only going to fade away. I let my feet lead me across unknown ground, but now I just wish to become part of the mountain. I listen to the north wind blow through the trees, and the noises of the forest. In the morning the migrating birds of winter pass through the sky. Sometimes at night, animals will howl in the distance. No one is left. I have nothing.
[There’s a rustle in the leaves, and the youkai notices someone coming. It’s Natori.]
Mountain Youkai: Ahh, at least there’s no light from the moon…
[Cut to present: Natsume is running down the hall, Nyanko-sensei clinging on to his back.]
Nyanko-sensei: Oiii Natsume, you can just leave that youkai alone. It was already driven away once. It’s especially not going to show up before an exorcist. If that strong attachment isn’t severed, the root of its evil will remain. You’re unfit to go through with the callous ways of exorcists. You trying to help this youkai will only make Natori’s heart waver. Protecting that youkai here is-
Natsume: [sternly] I know.
Nyanko-sensei: What are you trying to do for him? This will only make things worse.
[Flashback to Mountain Youkai]
Mountain Youkai: Ahh, that man is here again… night after night… I wonder why he came this deep into the mountains to walk around… Did he lose his way? Did he lose something? Yet there’s just a tiny glimmer of light… I wonder if he can see me?... Hey… hey you, it’s dangerous, you know. There’s no moonlight to help you see. [she watches Natori] Hey, what are you looking for? Ahh, he came here from the valley on this moonless night. You better turn around and go home before you get hurt. Hey… hey you… can the voice of a youkai reach your ears… Listen to me… What are you looking for? I’m a youkai from the east who eats humans… [Natori slowly turns around to face her]. Now, I found you.
[Fade back to the present]
Natsume: –ru-san…
[Mitsuru is fast asleep at her calligraphy desk, surrounded by talismans. Natsume opens the door. There’s flashback narration of Mitsusu telling him about how abysmal she is at talismans, and how Natori just laughed about it. There’s a frame of Natori smiling while he stands by her with a calligraphy pen when he was in the illusion]
Natsume: –Mitsuru-san
Mitsuru: [waking up] Quiet, child.
Natsume: Mitsuru-san… Can you please explain?
Mitsuru: …About what?
Natsume: Your attachment to this house, why you were trying to be “Mitsuru”, what you told me about Natori-san, and for what purpose.
Mitsuru: You really are a strange child. Open your eyes and see me for what I am. You don’t understand the danger you’re in.
Natsume: You told me that you want to become Natori-san’s ally. “Mitsuru” wasn’t his only wish. I… I remember your own words. [internal narration: Therefore, that existence is what Natori-san was so desperate to protect.] I don’t want Natori-san to exorcize you. If there was any way…
Mitsuru: Heh, for instance? Beg for forgiveness and serve him? I refuse to be rewarded the way those servants are. I saw the form of that man on a night stroll in the mountains as he was looking for something. The naive boy came every night. I watched him from the cover of a tree, hoping the moon would shed some light. If it would only shine just a little… However, that man turned around at the sound of a youkai’s voice. He was an exorcist… [there’s a frame from her perspective of Natori looking at her] It felt like he was staring at me forever. He was looking for me. The length of time, as well as my weary state, it didn’t matter if I was exorcized. But, I at least knew a name. If I quickly introduced myself with this name, I could show him an imitation. I’m wavering. I… am going to meet that gaze. Therefore, kind boy, I am no longer under the mere light of the moon. I will not become a tool like those servants. My name is “Mitsuru” [note: the kanji is now “deep” and “influence”. additional note: these kanji have multiple meanings but this choice seems most fitting for her character]. I feed on the deepest desires of my prey. That is my nature. I don’t know where I can escape or how much longer I have. Well, I guess, I want nothing except for him…
[She smiles and disappears, with her talismans now fluttering around and falling.]
Hiiragi: Natsume. It was too late to prepare. It probably heard Natori’s voice calling.
Natsume: Hiiragi… could it have waited until our conversation was over?
Hiiragi: … That ayakashi… gave off the pleasant scent of flowers. It seemed to have escaped from somewhere. If not led out of the mountain, it was too weak to show itself. It gave up on attacking humans long ago. But still, it concealed itself with a scent. The stench ingrained deep in its blood wouldn’t go away. It wouldn’t change no matter where it went. It took much from humans. And thus, we will help our exorcist masters overtake it. We will not back down. Whether or not this awkwardness is something to ridicule, this is Natori’s greatest shame. I want to let him deal with this.
[Natsume clenches his fist]
Hiiragi: …Being a familiar is a pitiful role. I do not want that reward. That’s what the youkai said. But we’ve made up our minds to serve till the very end.
[Mitsuru arrives where Natori and the shiki are. She wears a camellia in her hair. Natori stands in the middle of a circle, holding a stick with a talisman. He looks at her slightly]
Mitsuru: Heh, your face is lowered. Please turn around to look at me, like the first time. Did you find what you were looking for?
[Natori begins chanting]
Mitsuru: That time, I obtained from you the existence of the name “Mitsuru”, something tied into your family, the dim light of days past. I was gradually fading away. I thought I could lend a helping hand. None knew of your fortune that I found for you.
Natori: Enough with the pretense of kindness. Who’s the monster here? It seems I can’t grow to comprehend you.
[He throws paper for the spell, and talismans swirl around her]
Natori: It would have been best if you hadn’t appeared before me that night. Don’t put on the anxious voice of a fickle human. Shouldn’t you have stayed hidden?
Mitsuru: No. In that case, I wouldn’t have learned your name. I couldn’t have spoken with you. I couldn’t have run while holding your hand. Therefore, once more now, I challenge you. That box… why did your uncle disappoint you by entrusting you with a secret of betrayal when he was about to leave? I wonder if it could be tied into the grudge against youkai. Or, searching for some hope for the Natori clan. If no one had remained here for a long time, if they had already given up without burdens to carry, I wonder if it hasn’t already been shown. If that’s the case, please come here just once. I can grant your wish. Time will stop like a frozen flower. Let’s sleep in an everlasting beautiful scene. You can meet this Mitsuru, and replicate the same scenery. We won’t have to put up falsehoods. Let’s stand and face problems together. Even without walking alone on a moonless night.
Natori: …That desire is my weakness. That wish can no longer come true. I don’t want that sentiment to only become my shortcoming. I don’t have a younger cousin. Mitsuru was an illusion. You are a youkai. I have made it my career to oppose you.
[Talismans and flowers flutter around Mitsuru]
Mitsuru: …Ah, truly… those talismans are so beautiful and powerful. I can see my dream coming closer, that time of beauty. Wretched man-eater, whose heart trembled from the joy of passing the time with one she loves. I’m glad it was you who exorcized me, Natori Shuuichi-sama.
[She disappears. Cut to Natori walking over to the entrance door after the exorcism. He sighs and opens it. An illusion or memory of Mitsuru appears.]
Mitsuru: Ah, you finally came. Welcome back, Shuuichi-san. Come in, quickly. I want you to show me how to make talismans. Hey, Shuuichi-san, I’m sure if it’s you—
[This fades out. Natsume sits on a porch outside. Natori goes over and pats his head.]
Natori: It’s over, Natsume.
Natsume: …I’m sorry, because of my selfishness… nothing…
Natori: Not at all, it’s all okay, Natsume.
[Natsume looks down, his face red. Natori smiles softly.]
Natori: Ah, I’m really glad you didn’t become an exorcist.
Natsume: …You’re…
[They look at each other.]
Natori: …I’m okay. I’m unable to have my way with various things I’m bad at, but just because someone’s burdened doesn’t mean they’re tied down. Nevertheless, I want to keep looking.
[Natori grabs his bag and begins to head out]
Natsume: Hey, Sensei.
Nyanko-sensei: Hm?
Natsume: I don’t understand… Why did the uncle leave that sort of box for Natori-san… I don’t get it.
Nyanko-sensei: How should I know?! Let’s go, Natsume!
Natori: Now that it’s completely cold, shall we go grab something warm to eat?
Nyanko-sensei: [pouncing on Natori's back] Oh! That’s great! Where to, kid? [Looking at a charm written on Natori’s neck] What’s this weird mark on the back of your neck?
Natori: Oh… [covering it] It’s nothing… Just for protection.
Nyanko-sensei: Hm…
Natori: Thank you for coming. I couldn’t have completed the mission without your help.
Natsume: Ah, Sensei, Natori-san, this snow is… [looking at the paper dolls]
Natori: Haha, you’re right, Natsume, it looks exactly like snow.
[The paper dolls fall around the estate. The three familiars stand watching, and Hiiragi looks down at a camellia blossom on the ground.]
Natori: Thank you, Natsume. Let’s go back together.
Natsume: Yeah.
[Natsume notices a blossom on the ground and picks it up]
Natsume: Nato-
[Natori is already walking away. Natsume places the blossom in the stone lantern.]
Mitsuru(?): So, you’re an exorcist. …Hm? Your name is Natori? I’m… My name is—

AS AN ANIME BOOMER WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ANIME STUDIO (i'm a newbie in watching anime btw so i want to know more <3)
this is going to contain anime recommendations too <3
if you're expecting mappa to be in this list, i'm apologizing in advance because it's not :") this post is entirely to gush about studio shaft so thank you so much for asking this question. dw there are other studios after i finish my studio shaft spiel:
Tumblr media
let me tell you guys how the love story between studio shaft and i began. i was a child watching shoujo kakumei utena and i fell in love. it was... so unlike any other anime i’ve watched as a child, especially when i was watching blue dragon, pokemon, and naruto in the sides. it had a female main character, had homosexual undertones that made may or may not pushed me further in the closet, but most of all: it was unique.
enter: arakawa under the bridge was an experience. then sayonara zetsubou sensei. god. but at this point, i still haven’t pinpointed that they were all from the same studio. and then, here comes the monogatari series.
the monogatari series will always be the greatest pieces of animation (and by that, i don’t necessarily mean plot but the animation itself) in all of the shit that i watched, and when i say i’ve watched lots of animation, i mean lots. but the monogatari series will always stand out as the best. the thing about good animation that i’m searching for is a distinct style that you can see from afar. this is actually one of the reasons why i don’t really consider mappa as one of my top animation studios because while they’re amazing, and they really are, it’s not the type of animation that you glance at and then go “ohhh, it’s mappa” unless you sit down for a couple of minutes. well, you can, but i’m the type of person who prefers metaphors over descriptors, you know?
anyway, studio shaft’s animation of the monogatari series is ingrained in my writing. i always want to make my writing look and feel like the monogatari series which is so hard to do, but i can proudly say that one of my main inspirations is studio shaft.
Tumblr media
THEN MAHOU SHOUJO MADOKA CAME OUT AND I—
mahou shoujo madoka magica. my sweet. this is the time when i finally recognized studio shaft’s animation and it was the best feeling ever. the head tilts, the framing, the backgrounds, the sudden texts. the tragic and confused atmosphere. and then nisekoi. i also recognized the animation and yes, it was also the best feeling ever. and i was obsessed with nisekoi for the longest time and to be honest, i was one of those people who fought in the comments section of chia-anime and fighting for team chitoge.
a dream come true: mekakucity actors. i was the biggest fan of the kagerou project and when i found out studio shaft was animating it? i wanted to bawl my eyes out. of course, it was beautifully done as i expected, and of course, as a fan of kagerou project, i was disappointed by how it ended, but still, the point is: studio shaft.
some notable animes from studio shaft: mahou sensei negima, sangatsu no lion, kino no tobi, maria holic, ef, uchiage hanabi, etc. etc.
Tumblr media
some other studios i like and my favorites from them:
Tumblr media
i love the storytelling of brain's base the most. while i love studio shaft for it's style and uniqueness, brain's base storytelling triumphs over all studios. period. if studio shaft is my favorite animation, brain's base is my favorite storytelling!

Natsume and the Djinn of the Labyrinth, Himiko
This One-shot was written in 2021 so please - feel free to tell me about my spelling mistakes Himiko is a student in the same class as tsubasa - she's my OC She possess long brown hair and green eyes
PS : Aladdin in this story is the student currently doing the attraction of the Special Class during the Alice Festival.
-------------
Patiently waiting for her next Aladdin, Himiko was playing with the objects in front of her, hoping to make time go faster. The noises around her were making the labyrinth lively, which was amusing her. Between the screams, laughter and Alice’s noises, she was happy that the Playground of the Special class was such a success this year. And it’s all thanks to the new student of their class, Mikan Sakura. Anyone could say that, ever since that kid joined their class, the whole Spe class started to be happy again.
For years now, Spe class hadn’t done anything for the Alice Festival. First of all, because it was hard to find an idea that could use all the Alices in their class, and also, no one was expecting much from the Spe class. Mikan managed to find the perfect idea, and everyone got motivated to make sure that it would work. Everyone waited for the festival to happen, all excited to prove that they aren’t the abandoned kids, the useless Alices of the Academy, they how other classes were talking about the shape class. Himiko really hated that, because she didn’t see her comrades and herself as abandoned, useless Alices. She saw her class, her family inside the Academy as a proof that something rare is a true force. Stepping noises coming from her left side dragged her attention. Turning toward the sound, she smiled happily because she finally had something to do. Not a lot of Aladdin managed to succeed her enigma – she didn’t really count Narumi-sensei because with his Alice it’s way too easy, she hates the pheromone Alice so much. Her smile staged a bit when her eyes crossed their crimson colleague. “Hyuga-Kun” she said. Hyuga Natsume, a famous elementary kid inside the Academy, was currently in front of her, looking truly bothered. Before Mikan joined the Academy, Himiko had never really talked to the kid before, maybe once or twice? But since that, she easily had noticed how that kid (Natsume) and that blond boy – Luca-Pyon like her kohai (Mikan) calls him – turned around the young girl, even though his reputation of “I don’t care about anyone”. Himiko hasn’t really had anything against the boy in front of her, she knew the rumors like everyone else, not that she has truly given a thought about them. She always had refused to believe what rumors tell. Well, the rumors about him being a huge pervert seemed true based on what she witnessed earlier.
The boy glared coldly at her, clearly annoyed by the fact that she wasn’t moving. Mentally shaking her head, she concentrated and smiled at him before telling him to step in front of the table. Table on which 3 identical objects were put. “Here's my enigma. My Alice turns my drawings into real things. One of those three object is my drawing. Find it before the end of the timer and you win. But be aware, you can only try to find the fake one once.” As he was staring angrily at the table, Himiko used that free moment to look closely at him. Everyone knew that the boy was quite handsome even though he was still ten years old, it wasn’t a secret to anyone and it was one of the reasons that the girls in the academy were crazy about him. Now that she thought about it, she remembered that once she helped him hide from crazy girls during the last Valentine day, watching people running around was entertaining. Noticing the dark look in his eyes because she was staring at him, she started looking away, embarrassed and asking herself how those girls could like him even with his horrible personality. But then, she started feeling guilty because he might have been stalked like that during the whole day and the whole game.
Like Tsubasa, she had noticed earlier how he seemed jealous when Tsubasa was holding Mikan in his arms, trying to calm the young girl who was crying over her self-proclaimed “lost-virtue”. Himiko had a good laugh when she saw how scared Tsubasa became after he pushed the elementary boy too far, that the ten years old boy wanted to have Tsubasa as his slave more than anything in the world. She promised herself that, if she had met Natsume in the Labyrinth, she would do anything to let him win against her in order to make Tsubasa his slave because she wanted to revenge herself from the joke that Tsubasa did to her some days ago. So she had smiled, happy to have found how to get revenge on her comrade who commands shadows at his pleasure. A smile that didn’t seem to please the elementary kid in front of her how glared back at her for the umpteenth. Glaring at the clock, she bites her lip. Natsume looked as if he started to lose the last of his patience that he seemed to have. Knowing that the boy would be angry at her, she gave him a nervous smile before giving him advice.
“To help you, you can break an object. But be aware that, if it’s not my drawing, then you lose. If it’s my drawing, then you will only have paper left in your hands.” The glare she gets after saying that scared her. As Natsume was openly criticizing her – saying how stupid she was for not telling this directly. Has he noticed that she did it in order to help him? Well, thinking twice about it, Himiko kinda guessed that it would be better for her hair – her beautiful hair, the thing she likes the most about herself – if the elementary boy didn’t know about that.
Looking at the boy who was going away, she sighed angrily. The boy played with her words, but she did know that the fact that he won was true – or it was what she was telling herself, so she could let him get Tsubasa’s lamp and win him as a slave. Cleaning the table, she glanced at the boy when she saw where he was going. Trying to see if she should help him, she decided that she still could get a bit of revenge by having Natsume fight against Tsubasa. So she called after twice, but he completely ignored her. Angry, she screamed his name. “Natsume!” The boy turned around at once, giving Himiko a death look. That made the girl take a step backwards. But she got over it quickly, getting used to it, before smiling – creepily – at him when she thought of the terror that was going to live her classmate. Natsume looked at her weirdly, not understanding why she was looking at him like that. “If you are looking for Tsubasa,” she said with a bigger smile, “then you should go left and then right!” Frowning, the boy looked at Himiko trying to see if he could trust her words. But a predatory smile won over his face. Getting ready to find Tsubasa and beat his ass. He turned around, starting to follow Himiko’s instruction before giving her a small hand gesture – filled with disdain. Himiko smiled, knowing that behind that – stupid – hand gesture, the boy was saying that he a bit thankful to her.

Himiko smiled before looking at the mess in front of her and she sighted, because she had to clean that mess. She couldn’t wait to hurry towards the end of the labyrinth, hoping that the boy would win over Mikan so he could choose Tsubasa’s lamp and ridicule him. With that in mind, she prepared a new object for the new Aladdin that was going near her.
Sadly for her, Natsume never had Tsubasa for a slave because his classmate – was it Kokoroyomi? – Read the wrong name in his mind and ended up choosing Mikan, to the sadness of the young girl who tried to win comfort in the arms of Tsubasa and Himiko. Himiko then had to find a new way to avenge herself, as she was comforting the crying girl in her arms.

"This year our benefactor will be joining us for the New Year," the President says, "I trust that you will be on your moderately best behavior."
The members of the Armed Detective Agency crowd the meeting room, a rare occurrence and one that involved various levels of bribery on the President's part.
Haruno, as always, stands not far behind the president, her hands clasped around a clip board held to her chest. She has personally assisted the Agency's president for years, longer than half of the Agency's detectives. Much like every year, she will be joining them.
"Dazai in particular I ask to cooperate," the President singles out the bandaged man currently sitting with his front slumped over the table, "under no circumstance are you to touch Natsume-sensei."
"Such an action would have detrimental consequences."
Dazai's first course of action would be to go against the President's orders, it's one of his tried and true methods. It's something left over from his mafia days- perhaps it would be what one who was human would call his true nature. It feels right.
But he is actively continuing to change, to take his President's words and mull them over.
The President rarely asks anything of his employees- it's a wonder the Agency is still standing with the blatant neglect of a command. Dazai himself has only witnessed the President leave his office to settle disputes among them or to guide them through an assignment only a few handful of times over his three years as an employee and detective of the Agency.
So for the man to not only step out of the safety of his office to discuss their usual new years plans but to also address one of them directly, it must be important that Dazai follow his orders.
"Yes, sir."
"Good morning, everyone," a fairly tall man with a cane greets the detectives as Dazai joins them, his coat hastily thrown on as he recalled the time.
The President bows his head in greeting, "Natsume-sensei."
The President showing respect isn't unusual, from the little the man has told them about the Agency's benefactor, it's expected.
He and the others automatically follow their leader's actions, all except Ranpo-san and the woman he recognizes as the President's personal assistant.
Ranpo gives the man a slightly deeper bow, one that earns a slight chuckle from their benefactor.
"I see you are still up to your antics, Ranpo-kun."
The Detective grins, "Would you expect any different, Natsume-san?"
Natsume hums, an amused glint in his eyes, but ultimately does not answer.
They start up the stairs of the shrine. Dazai, Kunikida and Atsushi in the front, The President and his assistant trail at the end of their group to keep their benefactor company, his cane making the climb harder. Dazai vaguely heard Kunikida scolding him for stepping up backwards as he watched the three converse, too far behind for him to make out anything they were saying.
The President always stayed one stair behind whilst Haruno threaded her and Natsume's elbows together, offering the elder man support in ways that seemed second nature.
"God, they're so insufferable," Ranpo's voice breaks through his thoughts, having not noticed his superior catch up to their trio.
"What do you mean by that, Ranpo-san?," Atsushi asks, looking over his shoulder at where the elder's focus was. He didn't see anything wrong with the scene, Atsushi had done the same on numerous occasions for friend and foe alike, more notably his mentor, and his stubborn other half.
"They're practically drooling over him," the Detective overtakes the group, his scarf flowing behind him- really it was the President's scarf, the man had stolen it from him before the others had arrived, badgering the elder until he gave in.
"Natsume-sensei isn't some helpless old man- he's the Agency's benefactor after all."
Dazai hums, swaying side to side dangerously, a playful mannerism that had slowly snuck back into his life, nearly knocking Kunikida off the steps.
'..So why can't I touch him..?'

Ooh 29+2 for natsume + whoever you want
HEARTBREAKING PROMPTS
29. “I’m just tired of this. I’m tired of it all.”
ao3 // ko-fi
x
Natsume’s hands are shaking. Nyanko-sensei is watching, unblinking, from the corner of the room, and Natori is outside having a shouting match with that strange, shadowy man who brought the curse down on them in the first place, and Kaname is going through the motions of making tea just to have something to do, to contribute, and Natsume’s hands are shaking.
The exorcists won’t say what it is the curse has done, but Kaname can see it wreaking havoc. Natsume flinches every time someone moves too quickly. His pupils are dilated. When Kaname sets the tea tray down, Natsume’s head twists toward the soft sound of glasses clinking as if a gun went off.
Kaname is-- frightened. His fingertips are prickling, and there’s some tight, cold pressure behind his breastbone that makes it hard to breathe. He sits down slowly and then doesn’t move again, because Natsume is staring at him like he doesn’t know him.
“Ponta,” he whispers. His voice comes out kind of funny, a little thick and wobbly. Natsume is back to watching the room for invisible enemies, and doesn’t hear.
The lucky cat says, “We just have to wait it out.”
“How can we?” Kaname asks hoarsely. “How can we just-- sit here-- ”
“His heart will give out if we do anything else,” the cat replies mercilessly. “If he had even an ounce less of spiritual power, the curse would have killed him already.” That’s not what Kaname needs to hear, that’s not what he needs to hear-- “But he’s survived it this long. It’ll burn itself out by the end of the night. He just has to hold on.”
There’s still an angry conversation happening outside. The porch doors are closed but Kaname can just barely make out what they’re saying; Matoba wants to bring Natsume to his family home, where it will be easier to help him. Natori is promising what grievous bodily harm he’ll do to Matoba’s person if he takes even ‘one more fucking step towards the kids in that house.’
“So the worst is over?” Kaname asks.
“This is the worst,” Nyanko-sensei says. He’s sitting on his haunches, and his eyes are an eerie, glowing green, and he doesn’t look away from Natsume for even a second. “It will be the worst and then it will be over.”
“I can’t do this,” Natsume says suddenly. He’s pushing himself to his feet, clinging to the wall like there’s no strength left in his body. His eyes are almost fully black, pupils swallowing up all the green. “I can’t do this anymore.”
Nyanko-sensei goes tense, and Kaname stands up. “Natsume--”
“Please,” Natsume sobs, “please just let it be over, I can’t anymore.”
Kaname doesn’t know what to do. He never knows what to do. He’s always, constantly, two shades shy of completely useless at all times, in all situations. But Nyanko-sensei said Natsume’s heart would give out if he did anything besides sit calmly in a quiet room, and this-- this clawing his way toward the door, halfway to hyperventilating-- this is not that.
He rounds the table with his hands out in front of him, and bites the inside of his cheek when Natsume’s eyes dart towards him in a panic, like Kaname is any one of the monsters that have haunted him since he was a child.
“Stop him,” Nyanko-sensei says with an alarming note of urgency.
“Natsume,” Kaname says very softly, trying to pretend he isn’t light-headed with panic of his own. “Can you come back, please? You don’t have to do anything, just-- come back, okay?”
Natsume is crying earnestly, and he’s clearly scared out of his mind. In two years of classes and sleepovers and weekend trips and shared secrets, Kaname has never once seen him like this. Kaname has seen him stare down spirits three times his size without fear, has seen him reach out to people like Shibata and Adachi who were cruel to him in the past without flinching.
Whatever else this curse has done to him, it’s ripped away all that stubborn resilience, that dogged bravery, and left behind this kid who has always been afraid, who has never been rescued, who has been walking through the dark empty-handed for years.
“I’m tired of this, I’m tired of all of it,” Natsume says, “I just want it to be over. Please let it be over, please, I can’t do it, I can’t.”
“You can,” Kaname says. “I know you can. You can do anything.”
Shuddering, Natsume’s eyes track clumsily until he manages to find Kaname’s, and Kaname looks at him with everything he’s feeling plain on his face. He looks at him exactly the way he feels about him, like Natsume is the very best person he knows.
He hears a weight drop down from the windowsill behind him, and then the warm weight of Nyanko-sensei is leaning against his ankles.
“I know it hurts,” Kaname goes on. “I can’t imagine how much it hurts. But it won’t hurt forever. It’ll get better, I swear.”
He doesn’t move any closer, but he holds out his hands. He’s always holding out his hands. He never knows when it’s the right time to move, he isn’t always sure of his welcome, but he can do this. He can be here, just in case someone ends up needing him.
Natsume is staring at him, chest heaving, not moving forward and not running away. His expression has passed through the full gamut of emotion and now it’s mostly vacant. There’s hardly anything left of him in there.
Kaname whispers, “Please come back. I’ll help you. I’ll do anything.”
It could be a moment, or an hour, or a year. There are still loud voices in the yard, and Nyanko-sensei’s eyes are still a vivid, focused green, and Natsume’s hands are still shaking.
But he reaches out, and folds his shaking hands into Kaname’s larger ones. His pulse is rabbiting, the curse doing its best to drive him to hysteria. Everything in his mind and his body must be urging him to run, to escape, to do whatever it takes to put himself out of this misery, but he stands still instead. He closes his wide, dark eyes, and holds on a little bit longer.
Just a little bit longer.

Why you should watch Ookiku Furikabutte aka Oofuri
A little history!
• Ookiku Furikabutte- popularly shortened to Oofuri and translated as Big Windup- is a manga created by Higuchi Asa, a female mangaka from Urawa, Saitama. She first published Oofuri in Afternoon, in 2004. The manga is still ongoing.
• She graduated from university with a major in sports psychology, which shows in her work!
• She has won both the 10th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize for best creative work and the 31st Kodansha Manga Award for general manga for Oofuri
The plot!
Oofuri follows main character and pitcher Mihashi as he enters a new high school. Scarred by his traumatic experience at his middle school, where his team despised him and refused to cooperate with him, he swears off playing baseball ever again. However, he can’t resist taking a peek at the fields of his new school, where he’s dragged into the team by the coach, Momoe Maria. This baseball club is only just starting out, with ten players, and Mihashi realizes that there he can still be a pitcher.
The characters
The main character, Mihashi, is bit much at the beginning. He has no self-confidence and speaks haltingly, so it’s hard to understand him at times. As someone with social anxiety, I see Mihashi as very similar (although a bit more extreme) to me. I’ve also seen him headcanoned as autistic, although as a non-autistic person I can’t say how accurate that is.
Abe, the catcher to Mihashi’s pitcher, and his partner in most things. Despite them being partners, Abe has a hard time understanding Mihashi. He has a short temper and a mysterious disdain towards pitchers, due to a bad past experience in middle school, which left an impact on him that shows, even later in the series.
The coach, Momoe Maria! That’s right- the coach is a woman! And she’s a really good character on top of that! She restarts the club as a hardball club and rebuilds it from the ground up. When she was a student, she was the manager of the team, with one other member. But who was this mystery member, and why haven’t they come back to visit?
Shino’oka, the manager! Another female character that contributes a lot to the team. She does most of the data collecting, food prep, etc. the team would truly be lost without her.
Other notable players on the team-
• Tajima, the team’s genius cleanup. Despite being great at everything, he lacks the height and strength needed to be a cleanup. He’s a very fun character, and someone who can understand Mihashi. I’ve seen him headcanoned as having ADHD, but again I don’t have ADHD so I can’t verify that.
• Hanai, who has the height and strength that Tajima lacks. He has a rocky start at the beginning of the show, but he’s a character that I genuinely like. You can see his growth as a character and a player throughout the series.
Here I’d gush about the other members of the team, but honestly that’s too much information for a post trying to get people to watch the show, so I’ll just tell you that the rest of the characters are amazing. Outside of the baseball team, there’s a cheering squad, led by Mihashi’s childhood friend, that supports the team later on in the series.
Other reasons why you should watch!
The characters all care for each other a lot
They are all so close that you could ship anyone on the team and I wouldn’t even bat an eyelash. They are all friends and have very close relationships.
The art style is really cute! Although it’s an older show, the animation isn’t that bad and I really enjoy watching it. (four times)
Sports psychology plays a large part in the show! They talk about training specifics, caloric intake and meals, meditation, how stress can impact plays, etc
Tired of sports anime parents being dead or missing? Look no further! Oofuri has /plenty/ of parents, which all have names, different personalities, and interests. The mothers (and some of the fathers!) show up to the games to cheer. They also become friends with each other, and seeing their interactions is always fun and interesting.
Mihashi makes a bunch of really fun facial expressions, and he’s not the only one! Nearly every character has a moment where they get chibi-fied or have an otherwise funny face.
The humor (in my opinion) is really funny! The characters all interact very well with each other and bounce off each other in funny ways.
There are a lot of great fan artists! @arunneronthird , @jeremy-pakhitou, @watmels , and @queenoftheantz are all really good artists who have drawn for Oofuri, although they aren’t the only ones!
Genuine boys being boys!
The female characters aren’t overly sexualized! The coach has large boobs, but the camera never focuses on them unless the other characters themselves do (this only happens once or twice because. They’re teenage boys. It’s also a character on another team, and he’s not ogling them) they’re also never put in revealing outfits, and there’s no fan service!
The other teams are actual people! They all get names and focus, which is something similar to Haikyuu. The players all joke around with each other and have nicknames for each other, and you can tell there’s a story beyond the one Higuchi-sensei is telling.
Characters are reoccurring. It’s almost guaranteed that you’ll see another character or at least their team again.
The openings and endings are really, really good
It deals with things like injuries in sports, bullying, anxiety, etc
Hand holding is a major plot point
Reviews
@liberolover24- I'd say honestly an 8/10 since it really is underrated in regards to popularity and other big sports anime. It's also very wholesome and digs into the feelings of the main character who goes through a lot of self deprecation but despite all that hes still wants to try his best and train himself to get better throughout the series. It's also comedic and family friendly
@stylinbreeze60- Oofuri belongs in the category of coming-of-age stories. A good swath of the manga’s drama and appeal rests in futile attempts to communicate as individuals, letting Higuchi display her understanding of communication and inner conflict. Higuchi’s skill as a writer emerges in her handling of exposition- the two talents Asa Higuchi most excels in are complex characters and an intricate understanding of human behavior. A 7/10 if I’m being harsh like an ice skating judge. 9/10 if I’m being biased.
@certified-catboy- 10/10. The character development is immaculate. I don't know what else to add but if you're into character development then consider putting Oofuri on your watchlist.
My mom- 8/10. Didn’t like it at first but would definitely watch a third season if it came out. Enjoys the characters.
Me: 10/10. I’ve watched the anime four times and reread the manga twice, and if that doesn’t convince you that it’s a good show, I don’t know what else will. Also Momoe (the coach) crushes an entire orange in her hands in the first episode.
Similar shows:
Nine Dragons’ Ball Parade
Given
Haikyuu
Daiya no Ace
Tsurune
Natsume Yuujinchou
In conclusion- go watch Oofuri!

hey there! i’m watching season 5 and i can’t with how sensei is always teasing takashi for being a softie but then he’s the first one to worry about natsume and it’s so obvious he has a soft spot for his boy 🥺❤️. like in episode 9, the one where the shiitake youkai wanted to join a really powerful youkai’s entourage so he thought about taking natsume as an offering, sensei knew about it and didn’t do anything at first saying that it would be a good lesson for natsume (to not be so trusting) but then when the youkai was about to confess and apologize, sensei interrupted him so natsume wouldn’t find out and be hurt… 😭❤️ sorry, i just love their relationship so much and i love characters like sensei that pretend to be all tough but are actually really caring (can he be considered a tsundere? lmao). may i ask some of your favorite natsume and sensei’s interactions/chapters?
I think they call that the moe gap, and Nyanko-sensei is 100% a tsundere. That's why he's among the best mascot characters. He's up there with Chopper One Piece, who will call you a bastard if you compliment him, and Pochita Chainsaw Man, who is not a tsundere but is a very good boy, so I'll allow it.
Not much comes to my mind off the top of my head, but I still can't get over the scene where Sensei just breathes on Natsume. Sounds super creepy without context, but it's super heartwarming when you have it. There's a reason it's one of the most memorable scenes from the series. I also love the mini interactions in s3e12 where Nyanko-sensei cares for a sick Natsume at Touko's request. Either by fixing his sick rag or by tucking him in.

Happy 2 Year Anniversary to this blog!! Thank you so much to all 1300+ of you for following! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°
For this year I thought it would be fun to do a Top Ten ranking of all the screenshots on this blog. There’s a lot of good Smiling Natsumes, but which ones are the best? Tell me what you think of my list... ohohoh....
10) ch79.1
Starting the list off strong with this beautiful manga cover. Always a fan of how ethereal manga Natsume looks (and the background’s green colour suits him so well!!)
Tumblr media
9) s05e06
I tagged this with “potential meme format” on the original post and actually saw a few memes :’) They were epic thank u
Tumblr media
8) There goes Nyanko-Sensei! ch11
“You’re so cute I could just eat you up!" (*/∇\*)
Tumblr media
7) s03e09
Natsume with all his friends!! They were really worried for him :’) Taki is so iconic (I wish I had my own Nyanko-Sensei to hug)
Tumblr media
6) ch7
toddle toddle What’re you complaining about, cat?
Tumblr media
5) s05e11
I really love the episodes where Natsume gets sick and Touko frets over him, they’re so cute ToT It’s just nice seeing my boy get cared for... look at how happy he is to drink the eggnog...
Tumblr media
4) OVA 01
box boy :)
Tumblr media
3) s04e06
Natsume and Tanuma’s relationship makes my heart go 💞💞 In this episode they were at a festival right?? and they were having so much fun until the Bottle incident happened ToT If they could go to another one without any interruptions that’d be Great. Also I’m a big fan of how the roasted corn looks (º ﹃ º )
Tumblr media
2) s03e12
Ohhh my GOD this part. I remember the first time I watched it I had to pause to blink through my tears ╥﹏╥ It’s been years since I watched this episode in full but I still remember the satisfaction of finally seeing people who were willing to take Natsume in. The Fujiwaras don’t think of him as a burden, they love and care for him like their real son... *ugly crying* He looks so genuinely relieved and happy in this moment too (I wish he could be like that all the time) Anyway this series defined found family for me <3
Tumblr media
1) s05e10
Ah yes, the sequel to the episode above... and where my favourite smiling Natsume comes from. It was quite hard to narrow it down to this one, but I think it’s a good choice!! He looks so precious here <333 Touko and Shigeru’s lives were really brightened up when they adopted Natsume. One of the first things he asked for was to keep Nyanko-Sensei, and when they let him, he smiles like this ;; It goes to show how accepting the Fujiwaras are of him. When you compare this moment to more present-day episodes, you can really see how much Natsume has settled in. He’s more comfortable confiding in his family and friends now. He’s still a bit tentative, but it’s a process! And this picture represents the start of that process to me :’)
Tumblr media
Honourable Mentions:
ch9
Everything about this image is so funny . give me more toddle toddle!!
Tumblr media
ch66.5
Natsume has gotten too used to saying these Deeply Troubling things with a big smile on his face 😭 Someone help him
Tumblr media
s01e13
Yeah they look like a family <3 also I love the fox child they’re adorable...
Tumblr media
And that’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed my silly little list (*^▽^*) Hopefully the Top 3 reasons make sense lol Thank you all so much again for sticking around <33 Look forward to more pictures of smiling Takashi!
What will I do when I run out, you ask?... Don’t worry about it 👍

What is the reason that made you watch Natsume Yuujinchou? It is my favorite anime because of Natsume childhood and his development with relationships, and of course a lot of whump (Sorry if it sounds weird). At first I think I’m such a weird person because who would love stuff like this? Everyone will definitely teased me,maybe I’m wrong after all?
It’s been such a long time😅. Based on my old notes, I’m estimating ~6 years ago (aka ~2.5 years after I started getting into anime).
My memory’s fuzzy, but I definitely used to see it whenever I scrolled through Crunchyroll’s library. And iirc, it was #1 on a “Top 10 list of (some genre) anime” YouTube video back in the day, and I THINK that’s the first time I heard a synopsis/saw a clip of it. Since I’ve never had NatsuYuu in common with any friends, I imagine it must have been a combination of those two things that got me to start it. Though I’m confident I would have come across it through other means eventually.
Unless it was super freaking subconsciously, my initial attachment to NatsuYuu had nothing to do with whump. After joining whumplr last year, I saw someone describe Natsume as “the king of anime whump,” and at the time I was like, “lol nahhh….” but after giving it some thought I realized, “OH SHIT SHE’S KINDA RIGHT THIS POOR BOY!!”😭😭
But yeah. I was oblivious to injury whump up until a bit ago, and while the episodes where he gets sick have a very special place in my heart, I absolutely would have fallen in love with the show regardless of whump.
I adore the tone of the show. It can be so relaxing and tender and beautiful. During school, I tried to listen to the soundtrack while studying and couldn’t bc I got too relaxed/emotional. It can actually be hard to watch sometimes too bc it hurts SO much when he’s sad/scared. I mean, anything about when he was younger and treated poorly, I just Weep. The way it depicts loneliness and compassion hits me so deeply and in such a unique way.
Natsume’s character development (albeit Very slow) is a joy to watch, and I love how his different relationships are portrayed.
Two of my favorite episodes in the series are the ones from the perspectives of Nishimura, Kitamoto, and the Fujiwaras (S5E10 & S6E6) when Natsume had just recently come to town. I’m so happy Natsume has friends like Tanuma and Taki who he can talk youkai business with, but seeing how there are “normal” people who acknowledge that there’s something different about him and still love and accept him without prying for answers is also wonderful.
For youkai relationships, an episode that made a strong impression on me is S3E4💖. He’s just… such a good boy and I want to protect him always. But he’s also very strong and I believe in him. Also his whole relationship with Nyanko-sensei is such gold.
Like any piece of fiction, I’m sure Natsume’s story means many different things to many different people. For me, NatsuYuu is like a safe place to go home to.

Happy 46th birthday Kamiya Hiroshi-san! | 28.01.2021
Alright I’m back to posting birthday celebration/top seiyuu roles stuffs (or at least for Kamiyan’s birthday). My last Kamiyan birthday post was in 2019, so let’s revamp my list now.
#1: Takashi Natsume - Natsume Yuujinchou
Tumblr media
Soft Kamiyan is best Kamiyan. I’m sorry, but I guess I just love soft characters. I think I’ve gushed more than enough how much I love Natsume Yuujinchou, Natsume Takashi, and of course his small buta neko companion/self-proclaimed guardian. So here it is, Soft Kamiyan’s best cinnamon roll boi Natsume as my #1 favorite Kamiyan role (heck, my #1 favorite character, series, and performance ever). My heart expands three thousand times every time I hear Natsume speak.
#2: Kakushi Gotou - Kakushigoto
Tumblr media
I’ll be honest. This is the reason why I’m coming back to making these posts lol. I just finished watching Kakushigoto and I am in love with it!!! Definitely one of the hidden gems of 2020. A story about a single father who’s trying to raise his daughter while hiding the nature of his job. And Kamiyan nailed Gotou. From his dramatic performance when he’s on the job to the soft and caring side when he’s with his daughter. Everything was just perfect. Hearing Gotou just feels so natural.
#3: Izaya Orihara - Durarara!!
Tumblr media
The heartless little bastard that was probably the first Kamiyan role that stole my heart. Again, Kamiyan gave Izaya life. Still one of my favorite Kamiyan roles to this day. It makes one wonder how this is the same man who voices soft Natsume. Speaking of, I remember thinking ‘I know this voice!’ when Kamiyan used his Natsume voice as Nakura in episode 2 I think
#4: Yato - Noragami
Tumblr media
Season 3 when lol but well in all seriousness, Kamiyan as Yato is just amazing. He showed a wider range of emotion in Aragoto after we learn about his past as the God of Calamity, his desire to be the God of Fortune, and finally seeing him with Father for the first time. Just imagine how animated and voiced Yato will kill me if they ever decide to make a season 3 T-T
#5: Koyomi Araragi - Monogatari series
Tumblr media
It’s a talent in and of itself to be able to voice a wide range of characters and make each and every one of them memorable. Though he’s that type of seiyuu whose voice is very recognizable, I never get bored. Koyomi is one such case, and I just love him so much. (Speaking of Monogatari, I have yet to see Arakawa Under The Bridge and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Huh, so Kamiyan worked with Akiyuki Shinbou in three series, whereas he worked with Omori Takahiro in two - NatsuYuu and Durarara, one of which is still ongoing)
Well, seems like my top 5 still hasn’t changed (except for one) xD But really though, four of the five are indisputable, they probably won’t be dropping out of the list any time soon. It is funny how many of my favorite main characters were voiced by Kamiya Hiroshi. Whereas I usually associate a seiyuu with their popular characters, I never do so with Kamiyan. Somehow, he feels low-profile yet he manages to score big roles that end up being famous and/or iconic. His characters always feel so natural to me.
Honorable Mentions
HM1: Kusuo Saiki - Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan
Tumblr media
Don’t you just love when Kamiyan voices characters who talk a lot? I know I do, lol. There was Araragi, and then Saiki. I remember him talking in the DGS radio about when he got the role. He wasn’t actually too keen on it xD but hey I love him as Saiki lol
HM2: Levi Ackerman - Shingeki no Kyojin
Tumblr media
To be honest, I’m not much of a fan of Kamiyan’s Levi. I love Levi, not a fan of his voice lol. But I still gotta put him on this list. Because, well, one of his most popular roles to date? Yeah, lol. I said how Kamiyan’s voice is usually recognizable. That’s not quite the case with Levi. I still can’t find any trace of his voice whenever I hear Levi speak that you’d wonder how is it possible that the man behind Levi is also the one behind characters like Natsume, Yato, Izaya lol. Sometimes it feels like he had to force his voice to go that deep.
HM3: Choromatsu - Osomatsu-san
Tumblr media
Yeah I don’t follow Osomatsu-san, even though I want to. All my favorite A-list casts, but the comedy is just not my cup of tea ^^;; Still, I do love seeing some episodes, and the series is quite the phenomenon, so I’m gonna put him on the list.
HM4: Tieria Erde - Mobile Suits Gundam 00
Tumblr media
Seriously, there are a lot of other characters I want to put here. Like Ao no Exorcist’s Mephisto Pheles (Kamiyan was awesome here) or BSD’s Edogawa Ranpo (minor, but eh, still a popular series), but neither (not the characters or the series) are a favorite, so I’m going with Tieria Erde from Gundam 00. I’m not a Gundam fan. Not in the sense that I watched all series. But I do love mecha and even though Gundam 00 is more of a spin-off from the bigger Gundam narrative, I loved it. Great casts, enjoyable story. I guess this was before Kamiyan grew famous? Still, I did love Tieria, especially in the second season. That deadpan character who occasionally show emotion.
HM5: Machina Kunagiri - Final Fantasy Type-0
Tumblr media
I never played the game, tbh, but I wanted to mention him in the list because, well, Final Fantasy (and I’ve always been fascinated with Type-0′s lore). I wish Square would cast him in a mainline game. Well, he was casted as a minor role in FFX, but seeing Square’s trend of casting A-list seiyuu’s as their main characters, one could dream, right? To be fair, 7R mainly used their original cast from back in the 2000s and the main XV cast was decided also in mid 2000 (back from when it was still Versus XIII, though they changed Gladiolus’s seiyuu). I do wish they’d cast Kamiyan as, even if not a main character, a major supporting character. He’s not even in XIV when XIV has a lot of famous seiyuus in it.
well, that’s my list for now. I realize that many of my favorite Kamiyan roles are from recurring series. When I first made the list two years ago, I was surprised by how few roles I can list, because apparently all my favorites are from long ongoing series or ones that spawn many seasons. Look at NatsuYuu, Osomatsu, Monogatari, and SnK lol. No wonder it always feels like I hear Kamiyan every season xD
