OSTs that perfectly represent the Kdrama

Through the Darkness (2022) I recently finished watching Through the Darkness a kdrama about the first criminal profiler in South Korea Kwon Il Yong. It was a slow burn of a show and I imagine that if you are from South Korea it would really hit hard. Kim Nam Gil takes the lead role as the empathetic and intuitive Kwon II Yong.

Lullaby by The Nerd Connection provided the perfect accompaniment to the painstaking and painful mind hunter work of the main characters. The guitar provides a clear sense of time moving relentlessly forward, appropriate for a series which spans the years from the establishment to the acceptance and consolidation of unit as a key part of the institutional structure of the South Korean police force.

Strangers from Hell (2019) Creepy and utterly addictive, Strangers from Hell stares into the abyss and the abyss swallows us whole. I've written about the Hannibal parallels in the relationship between the two lead characters before but, just to reiterate, the sizzling chemistry between Yim Siwan and Lee Dong Wook is difficult to turn away from even in the most tense and gory moments.

The Rose's Strangers is a taut, grinding rock song which perfectly embodies the claustrophobic feel of the show. The backing vocals whispered behind the agonized voice of the lead singer communicate the persistence of the devil to influence while the lyrics emphasize the sensation of being trapped, slowly asphyxiated and wholly corrupted by evil.

Our Blues (2022) Our Blues wasn't everybody's cup of tea but, this drama, highlighting the struggles and small triumphs of different members of a close knit fishing community on Jeju Island kept me hooked until the end. It, along with Secret Garden, Something in the Rain, Run On, and The Island, are the reason that Jeju will definitely be part of the itinerary for my dream trip to South Korea.

With You sung by Jimin and Ha Sung Woon will forever be associated with Min Seon A's emotional journey. She loves her child deeply but cannot care for him because she is literally drowning in her sorrows. Her journey to self acceptance, recovery and healing, aided by Lee Byung Hun's character Lee Dong Seok, is determined and poignant and is perfectly reflected in the lyrics of the song, "I promise I'll never leave your love. My heart is beating 'cause of you"

AU where Deku stays quirkless and he enrolls in UA's support department, he and bakugo befriend each other because they take the same train to school & Deku approaches him because they're both batfam fans :) they bond over common interest which also inspires them to work togetherrrrrr

#better drawn mdzs #mdzs #wei wuxian #yiling laozu #Happy Friday the 13th!#This is scientific fact btw!#Ventilation operates through a series of active and passive forces #The active forces being muscular contraction with inhalation and exhalation having their own set of muscles.#but the interesting part is the passive forces at work:#The lungs have a certain level of elasticity to them - meaning the more they expand the more the those elastic forces are functioning-#-to try and return the system to rest (exhalation passive forces). Your diaphragm is the main force - pushing against the lungs at rest.#Your ribcage on the other hand is under a state of being pulled outwards. It *wants* to be as open as possible.#These to contradicting forces create a constant push and pull which assists in the ebb and flow of air. Most significantly with exhalation.#Now that being said - the primary action of inhalation ventilation is through control centers in your brainstem.#If you lose connection to that due to trauma you're going to need ventilation assistance.#Small note: Respiration is the cellular event of chemical exchange in the alveoli. Ventilation is airflow and pressure.#They are both important but also very different things. Sadly used interchangeably.#My anatomy nerd brain is screaming over the inaccurate ribcage...but its...recognizable. i. about 2 weeks ago, i was told there's a good chance that in 5 or so years, i'll need a wheelchair.

ii. okay. i loved harry potter as a kid. i have a hypothesis about this to be honest - why people still kind of like it. it's that she got very lucky. she managed to make a cross-generational hit. it was something shared for both parents and kids. it was right at the start of a huge cultural shift from pre to post-internet. i genuinely think many people were just seeking community; not her writing. it was a nice shorthand to create connection. which is a long way of saying - she didn't build this legacy, we built it for her. she got lucky, just once. that's all.

iii. to be real with you, i still struggle with identifying as someone with a disability, which is wild, especially given the ways my life has changed. i always come up against internalized ableism and shame - convinced even right now that i'm faking it for attention. i passed out in a grocery store recently. i hit my head on the shelves while i went down.

iv. he raises his eyebrows while he sends me a look. her most recent new book has POTS featured in it. okay, i say. i already don't like where this is going. we both take another bite of ramen. it is a trait of the villain, he says. we both roll our eyes about it.

v. so one of the things about being nonbinary but previously super into harry potter is that i super hate jk rowling. but it is also not good for my mental health to regret any form of joy i engaged with as a kid. i can't punish my young self for being so into the books - it was a passion, and it was how i made most of my friends. everyone knew about it. i felt like everyone had my same joy, my same fixation. as a "weird kid", this sense of belonging resonated with me so loudly that i would have done anything to protect it.

vi. as a present, my parents once took me out of school to go see the second movie. it is an incredibly precious memory: my mom straight-up lying about a dentist appointment. us snickering and sneaking into the weekday matinee. within seven years of this experience, the internet would be a necessity to get my homework finished. the world had permanently changed. harry potter was a relic, a way any of us could hold onto something of the analog.

vii. by sheer luck, the year that i started figuring out the whole gender fluid thing was also the first year people started to point out that she might have some internalized biases. i remember tumblr before that; how often her name was treated as godhood. how harry potter was kind of a word synonymous for "nerdy but cool." i would walk out of that year tasting he/him and they/them; she would walk out snarling and snapping about it.

viii. when i teach older kids creative writing, i usually tell them - so, she did change the face of young adult fiction, there's no denying that. she had a lot more opportunities than many of us will - there were more publishing houses, less push for "virally" popular content creators. but beyond reading another book, we need to write more books. we need to uplift the voices of those who remain unrepresented. we need to push for an exposure to the bigotry baked into the publishing system. and i promise you: you can write better than she ever did. nothing she did was what was magical - it was the way that the community responded to it.

ix. i get home from ramen. three other people have screenshotted the POTS thing and sent it to me. can you fucking believe we're still hearing this shit from her when it's almost twenty-fucking-twenty-three. the villain is notably also popular on tumblr. i just think that's funny. this woman is a billionaire and she's mad that she can't control the opinions of some people on a dying blue site that makes no money. lady, and i mean this - get a fucking life.

x. i am sorry to the kid i was. maybe the kid you were too. none of us deserved to see something like this ruined. that thing used to be precious to me. and now - all those good times; measured into dust.

I lost my mind when I saw this costume!

In Celtic mythology the white stag is a messenger from the otherworld, often a harbinger. It often appears when one has transgressed, and must atone or be undone. And yet it is also associated with prosperity. In this case, a white stag shows up in the house of prosperity to show them their own transgressions and brings ruin upon their house. That's Oliver. The white stag showing the aristocrats their transgressions and each of them fails to atone and is summarily undone. Except the father. The knight who banishes the white stag. Who lives out the rest of his life free of Oliver, who only returns to Saltburn upon his death.

The jacket embroidery is oak and acorns. This is often representative of power, victory, and enduring hardship. It also represents sorrow.

I saw this costume and I knew this deranged little freak would bring this house to ruin. I lost my fucking mind when I saw this costume.

Kim Nam-gil is SK's first criminal profiler

Currently on Chapter 4 of Through the Darkness with Jin's mate Kim Nam-gil.

It's good to see him in something a little bit down to earth after the larger than life performances in The Fiery Priest and The Island.

It is based on the autobiography Through the Darkness, co-written by Korea's first criminal profiler, Kwon Il Yong and journalist-turned-author Ko Na Mu. It's kind of a South Korean Mindhunter.
