The new 'compost obligatoire' rules came into force on 1 January 2024. Here's what they entail.
As of 1 January 2024, organic waste recycling is mandatory in France under new 'compost obligatoire' rules.
With support from the government’s Green Fund, municipalities must provide residents with ways to sort bio-waste, which includes food scraps, vegetable peels, expired food and garden waste.
Households and businesses are required to dispose of organic matter either in a dedicated small bin for home collection or at a municipal collection point. Previously, only those who generated over five tonnes of organic waste per year were required to separate it.
The waste will then be turned into biogas or compost to replace chemical fertilisers. Alternatively, it can be composted at home.
The obligation is currently on local authorities to provide an easy means for households to compost or separate organic waste.
While facilities are rolled out, there will not be fines imposed for non-compliance. It is yet to be seen whether stricter rules will be imposed in future.
One-third of household waste is bio-waste
Organic waste from food and gardens accounts for almost one-third of household waste. When it is mixed with other rubbish, it typically ends up in landfills or incinerators, where it produces heat-trapping greenhouse gases like methane and CO2.
Food waste is responsible for about 16 per cent of the total emissions from the EU food system, according to the European Commission. Globally, food loss and waste generates around 8 per cent of all human-caused emissions annually, the UN says.
It can also contaminate packaging destined for recycling like paper, plastic and glass.
In 2018, only 34 per cent of the EU’s total bio-waste was collected, leaving 40 million tonnes of potential soil nutrients to be discarded, according to NGO Zero Waste Europe.
In France, an estimated 82 kg of compostable waste per person is thrown away each year.
Is bio-waste separation mandatory in other European countries?
Under the EU’s Waste Framework Directive, bio-waste collection is being encouraged this year, but it stops short of setting mandatory targets.
In many European countries, organic waste separation has already been implemented at the municipal level.
Milan in Italy has been running a residential food waste collection programme since 2014. Households were given dedicated bins and compostable bags to kick off the scheme.
Elsewhere, taxes or bans on incinerating bio-waste have encouraged similar schemes, with separate bins and home composting widespread in Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium.
The UK announced plans to roll out separate food waste collection in 2023. It remains voluntary for households in England, but is more strictly enforced in Wales and for business owners.
How to sort your bio-waste
Ideally, all waste - including organic matter - should be kept to a minimum.
This can be achieved through careful meal planning. Consuming, freezing or preserving food before it expires along with using every part of an ingredient also help to reduce waste. Some food waste can even be repurposed into animal feed.
Any food waste that cannot be saved or repurposed should be either composted or separated for collection. This includes uneaten food scraps, baked goods, dairy products, eggshells, fruit and vegetables and their peels, mouldy food, pet food, raw and cooked meat and fish, bones, tea and coffee grounds.
Liquids, non-food products and packaging should not be placed in bio-waste bins.

AlterMidya on Twitter @altermidya:
LOOK: Filipino fisherfolks and environmental groups protest in front of the Netherlands embassy in Makati City today, March 22, to demand justice for what they call "grave corporate abuse" by Dutch dredging company Boskalis Westminster NV.
According to Kalikasan - People's Network for the Environment, the Dutch company is involved in several reclamation projects in the country such as the San Miguel Corporation's New Manila International Airport (NMIA) in Bulacan.
NMIA is considered by Boskalis as their "largest project in history."
“Boskalis is profiting from a project that bypassed environmental and social scrutiny, ignored warnings from impact assessments, and, worst, used military intimidation to coerce ‘consent’ from affected communities," said anti-reclamation activist Jhed Tamano.
The groups also seek accountability from the Dutch export credit agency Atradius Dutch State Business for supporting the construction of NMIA by providing export credit insurance valued at EUR 1.5 billion.
"We urge the Netherlands government to investigate corporate abuses by Dutch companies and -- until these abuses are thoroughly investigated -- to pressure the Philippine government to halt the airport project,” said Jonila Castro of Kalikasan.
Meanwhile, environmental advocates also protest in Papendrecht, Netherlands, where the Boskalis Westminster NV headquarters is located.

📝 ENG Translation: European Tours in Times of Inflation
Tumblr media
💬Kris Guštin shares some insight into the organization of Joker Out's recent See You Soon tour.
Article written by Gašper Završnik and published in Delo on 03.04.2024, English translation by a member of JOS and @kurooscoffee, Proofread by IG GBoleyn123.
Coping with rising costs and crowded markets is a challenge for the whole industry.
The concert part of the music industry in the post-Covid era is characterised by the expansion of live performance. The long-suppressed desire to tour, to perform in front of audiences in as many countries as possible, is only this year being fully realised.
We took a look at how European touring is going in the new inflation-driven reality. This was one of the themes of the conference part of this year's Ment¹. The European concert market is facing many challenges, such as the rising costs of touring, organising concerts and festivals, increasing musician fees and, as a consequence, more and more expensive tickets. There is also the question of how to manage the concentration and congestion of concert venues and balancing the availability of the most sought-after artists. An additional problem is finding opportunities for new performers in such a competitive environment.
¹Ment is a showcase festival and music conference that happens every year in Ljubljana.
We also enquired about the European tours of Slovenian performers, two groups that have a different style and a different audience, Joker Out and Širom².
²We translated only the part of the article that was relevant to Joker Out.
Joker Out recently returned from a European Tour. As Kris Guštin told us, it was organised by “a booking agent from the Wasserman agency and our manager. The booking agent arranges the concerts, the conditions, and the dates, and then the manager comes up with all the logistics, that is, he arranges the transport, the accommodation, puts together a team and everything that needs to be done.” He says that tours have always been a big financial investment for performers. “Especially for performers of our size, who have only just started breaking into the European market, where the ticket sales often don’t make up for the costs of transit, accommodation, and the salaries of the performers and the team. The inflation over the past few years is of course making that even harder, but the musical market has slowly adapted to that with higher ticket prices.”
Joker Out had 19 concerts in 18 cities in 12 countries this year, and they have three more coming up in Great Britain. The ticket price for each concert is determined based on the size of the venue, how in-demand the artist is, the local standard, and the overall concert-going culture in a certain place.
Joker Out are very happy with how many people came to their concerts. “The turnout differed across Europe. In the countries we’re strong in, like Finland and the Netherlands, we played for crowds from 1500 to 2000 people, and for countries we haven't played in a lot yet, like Germany and France, we performed for 500 to 1000 people. The venues were always nicely filled and the audience was excited.”
We asked Guštin what they base the length of the tour on. “The length of the tour is based on demand, territory strategy, and how busy the performer is. In our case, we decided for a month-long tour, in which we covered a lot of countries that we couldn’t do last year,” he added.

Chapter 14
Max Verstappen was an old friend of Lando's. Amelia recognised the Dutchman from Lando's time karting when he was just a kid. Lando always dragged Amelia with, and she hated it at first because it was just a bunch of boys. Then she convinced her father to let her drive a kart and she was hooked. It made sense why she had such a love for supercars. She was always a speed freak.
In the quaint Dutch village outside Rotterdam, where Max had set them up, Lando and Amelia found solace in the simplicity of their surroundings. Surrounded by unfamiliar sights and sounds, they relied on each other to navigate this new chapter of their lives. The language barrier posed a challenge at first, but they soon adapted, finding comfort in their shared experiences.
As they strolled through the cobblestone streets, hand in hand, they couldn't help but marvel at the charm of the village. The colourful houses with their window boxes filled with vibrant flowers, the smell of freshly baked bread wafting from the local bakery, and the friendly smiles of the villagers all added to the enchantment of their temporary home.
Despite the uncertainty of their future, Lando and Amelia embraced the opportunity to explore and immerse themselves in this unfamiliar culture. They spent their days wandering through the bustling markets, sampling local delicacies, and learning about the rich history of the region.
And through it all, their bond only grew stronger. They laughed, they talked, they shared their hopes and dreams for the future. In this tranquil village, far removed from the chaos of their past lives, they found a sense of peace and belonging that they had long been searching for.
But their time in the Netherlands was short-lived. Soon, they received word from Max that it was time to move on to their next destination: Brazil. With a mixture of excitement and apprehension, they packed their bags and boarded a plane, ready to embark on the next chapter of their journey together.
In São Paulo, the heat enveloped Lando and Amelia like a warm embrace, a stark contrast to the mild Mediterranean climate they were accustomed to. Adjusting to the sweltering temperatures and bustling city life proved to be a challenge, but they found solace in the hospitality of Max's girlfriend, Kelly, who welcomed them into her Brazilian villa with open arms.
Nestled amidst lush greenery, Kelly's villa offered a sanctuary from the chaotic streets of Sao Paulo. With its sprawling gardens and inviting pool, it provided the perfect retreat for Lando and Amelia to unwind and relax. They spent their days lounging by the pool, sipping caipirinhas, and soaking up the tropical sunshine.
As they watched the locals cycle down the street, their laughter mingling with the vibrant sounds of the city, Lando and Amelia couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of their surroundings. The rhythm of life in São Paulo was intoxicating, and they found themselves drawn to its vibrant energy and diverse culture.
Despite the challenges of adapting to a new environment, Lando and Amelia embraced the opportunity to explore São Paulo and immerse themselves in its rich tapestry of sights and sounds. From sampling exotic fruits at the local markets to dancing the night away at lively samba clubs, they embraced every moment of their Brazilian adventure with a sense of wonder and excitement. And through it all, Kelly's warmth and hospitality made them feel right at home, easing their transition into the vibrant and bustling city.
Amelia's fingers trembled slightly as she dialled Charles's number on the burner phone, her heart racing with a mixture of anxiety and relief. She needed someone she could trust, someone who could help manage her dealership left behind in the rush to escape the UK. Charles had always been reliable, a steady presence in her life, and she hoped he would be willing to lend a hand in her time of need.
After a few tense rings, Charles finally answered, his voice a welcome sound in the midst of uncertainty.
“Amelia? Is everything alright?” He asked, his concern evident in his tone.
Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, Amelia launched into an explanation of her situation, her words tumbling out in a rush as she recounted the events that had led to their sudden departure from the UK. She explained the urgency of the situation and the need for someone to oversee her dealership in her absence. To her relief, Charles responded with understanding and reassurance, offering his full support and assistance.
“Don't worry, Amelia. I've got everything under control.” He assured her. “I'll take care of your dealership as if it were my own. You focus on staying safe and getting settled wherever you are.”
Gratitude flooded through Amelia as she listened to Charles's words, a weight lifting from her shoulders knowing that her business was in capable hands. With Charles's help, she could finally breathe a little easier, knowing that she had someone she could trust to manage her affairs back home. As they finalised their plans, exchanging details and arranging for ongoing communication, Amelia couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over her.
Lando's concern was palpable as he watched Amelia complete the call with Charles, his brow furrowed with worry. It wasn't that he was jealous or distrustful of Charles, but rather, he was deeply anxious about the potential risks of making contact with anyone from their past life in the UK. Every call, every message, every connection was a potential link back to their old identities, and Lando couldn't shake the fear that their enemies might use that against them.
“Amelia, are you sure that was a good idea?” He asked, his voice tinged with concern as he approached her. “I understand you needed help with the dealership, but contacting Charles - it's risky. What if someone traces the call? What if they find us?”
Amelia glanced up at him, her own worry mirrored in her eyes as she considered his words. She knew Lando was right; every interaction they had with their past lives carried the potential for danger. But she couldn't ignore the pressing need for someone to oversee her business in her absence, and Charles was the only person she trusted to handle it.
“I know it's risky, Lando, but I had to do something. Charles is trustworthy, and he's the only one who can help me manage the dealership. I had to take the chance.” She replied, her voice trembling slightly with anxiety.
Lando sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. He knew he couldn't fault Amelia for wanting to protect her business and seek help from someone she trusted. But the thought of their enemies closing in on them filled him with a sense of dread that he couldn't shake.
“Alright. But we need to be careful. We can't afford to let our guard down, not even for a moment.” He conceded reluctantly, his gaze softening as he looked at her.
Amelia nodded in agreement, her heart heavy with the weight of their precarious situation. She knew that every decision they made from now on would carry consequences, but she was determined to do whatever it took to protect herself and the ones she loved, even if it meant taking risks along the way.
Amelia's discomfort had been building throughout the scorching Brazilian afternoon, each passing moment seeming to exacerbate her symptoms. Despite Lando's insistence that she take it easy and rest, she found herself unable to find relief, her mind plagued by a persistent unease. The sensation of sweat clinging to her skin, the persistent lightheadedness, and the gnawing emptiness in her stomach seemed to consume her every thought, leaving her feeling weak and depleted.
Relegated to the bed, Amelia tossed and turned, her restlessness only heightening her discomfort. With each shift of her body, her mind raced, searching for answers to the puzzle they found themselves trapped in. It wasn't until she turned onto her side for what felt like the hundredth time that afternoon that the pieces began to click into place, sending a surge of adrenaline coursing through her veins.
With a newfound sense of urgency, Amelia practically leaped out of bed, her movements fueled by a sudden clarity of purpose. Ignoring the protests of her protesting muscles, she hurried out to the terrace where Lando sat, the weight of her revelation pressing down on her like a leaden blanket.
“Baby.” She called out, her voice trembling with a mixture of excitement and apprehension as she approached him.
“Mmh.” Lando hummed in response, his brain numb from the events of the weeks prior.
“The Russells.” She began, her voice tinged with a hint of urgency.
“What about them?” Lando asked, confused, as he turned to look at her leaning against the door frame.
“Steve killed Clyde. If they had evidence my father was involved, surely there must have been evidence against Steve confirming he was the physical hitman.” She continued to explain.
“Yeah?” Lando urged her to continue explaining.
“If they want to continue building a reputation and grow their status in society, that information would derail everything. And, since my father had nothing left to lose, he wouldn't have hesitated to throw Steve under the bus.” Amelia added, breathless as she finished speaking.
Lando's brows furrowed as he processed Amelia's theory. The pieces of the puzzle began to align in his mind, forming a troubling picture of deceit and manipulation.
“So you think the Russells orchestrated everything to protect their own interests?” He asked, his voice tinged with a mixture of disbelief and realisation.
“It's the only explanation that makes sense. They had the means, the motive, and the opportunity.” Amelia nodded, her expression grave. “Nowhere in the documents George gave us did it mention Steve, so they’ve covered their tracks. And, we trusted George before all hell broke loose. Obviously he didn’t think we’d go through with the plan to expose my father.”
“It's a good thing you're so clever, baby.” Lando chuckled as he smiled at her.
Amelia offered a weak smile at Lando's compliment, though the gravity of their situation still weighed heavily on her mind.
“I just hope we can use this knowledge to stay one step ahead of them.” She replied, her voice tinged with determination. Lando reached out to gently squeeze her hand, offering reassurance.
“We will.” He affirmed, his eyes meeting hers with unwavering confidence. Lando's concern deepened as Amelia confessed her worries, but he remained calm, his voice steady as he gently stroked her arm. “Are you feeling any better?”
Amelia shifted uncomfortably, the weight of her unease palpable as she spoke.
“The heat is killing me.” She admitted, her voice tinged with frustration.
“I bet. Maybe we need to just see a doctor anyway, make sure you're really okay.” Lando suggested, his concern evident in his tone.
“If I tell you why I think I'm unwell, you might just lose your mind.” Amelia responded hesitantly, her gaze drifting away for a moment before returning to meet Lando's concerned eyes.
“Tell me.” Lando urged gently, reaching out to grasp her wrist and pull her into his lap.
“I haven't taken my birth control since we left London.” Amelia admitted, her voice barely above a whisper as she spoke the words that had been weighing heavily on her mind.
Lando's brows furrowed in concern as he processed her words.
“You think you're pregnant?” He asked, his voice laced with worry.
“No, but I think my hormones are all over and unbalanced and that's why I feel like shit.” Amelia explained, her voice tinged with frustration and anxiety.
“I see.” Lando murmured, his mind already racing with thoughts of how to alleviate Amelia's discomfort. “I'm sure we can get you the pills you need here too. No need to suffer, baby.”
As Lando delved deeper into his plans to take down the Russells, Amelia's condition continued to deteriorate, leaving her grappling with a range of unsettling symptoms. Each passing day seemed to bring a new wave of discomfort, from persistent nausea to debilitating headaches. At first, she attributed her malaise to common ailments like food poisoning or a bout of seasonal flu, but a nagging voice in the back of her mind urged her to explore every possible explanation. As Lando busied himself with devising a strategy with his father to bring down their adversaries, Amelia found herself consumed by a different kind of battle—one waged against the unknown forces wreaking havoc on her body.
As Lando immersed himself in an intense conversation with his father, Amelia seized the opportunity to slip away unnoticed. With a sense of urgency gnawing at her insides, she made her way to the waiting VW Beetle, the familiar hum of its engine offering a comforting reassurance amidst the chaos swirling within her mind. Each turn of the wheel brought her closer to her destination, the pharmacy that Kelly had pointed her towards—a beacon of hope in the midst of uncertainty.
Throughout their time in Brazil, Kelly had become a trusted confidant for Amelia, offering a sympathetic ear and invaluable guidance in navigating the complexities of their situation. Their bond had blossomed swiftly and effortlessly, forged by shared experiences and a mutual understanding of the challenges they faced. With Kelly's unwavering support, Amelia felt emboldened to confront her fears head-on, determined to find the answers she so desperately sought.
As she pulled up to the pharmacy, a sense of relief washed over her, tempered by a lingering sense of apprehension. Stepping out of the car, she squared her shoulders and made her way inside, the weight of her purpose heavy upon her. With each step, she drew closer to the solution she sought, her resolve unwavering in the face of uncertainty.
Inside, she wasted no time in procuring the necessary supplies, her movements swift and purposeful as she navigated the aisles with practised ease. With the familiar click of the cashier's register, she emerged victorious, clutching the precious cargo in her hands—a lifeline in the storm of uncertainty that threatened to engulf her.
As she made her way back to the waiting Beetle, a sense of determination settled over her, driving her forward with renewed purpose. And as she drove back to the villa, the weight of her burden felt just a little lighter, buoyed by the knowledge that she was not alone in her journey. She had Lando. She always had Lando.
With trembling hands, Amelia carefully made her way back to the villa, her heart pounding in her chest with each passing moment. She couldn't afford for Lando to realise she had slipped away, not when the weight of her discovery threatened to consume her every thought. As she reached the safety of their temporary sanctuary, she hurried upstairs to the bathroom, her footsteps echoing loudly in the silence of the empty villa.
Once inside, she wasted no time in tearing open the box containing the precious test, her fingers fumbling with the packaging in her haste. With the test in hand, she laid it carefully on the counter, her eyes scanning the instructions repeatedly as if searching for some hidden reassurance within their words. Each step felt like an eternity as she followed the prescribed process, her mind consumed by a whirlwind of anxious thoughts and fervent prayers.
With a deep breath, she steadied herself and allowed the moment to unfold, her gaze fixed unwaveringly on the white stick before her. As she waited for the telltale result to materialise, her mind raced with a myriad of emotions, each one vying for dominance in the tumult of her inner turmoil. She couldn't help but feel a pang of apprehension at the prospect of what the test might reveal—a single moment poised to irrevocably alter the course of their lives.
In those agonisingly long minutes, she found herself grappling with the weight of their circumstances, the reality of their situation casting a shadow over her hopes and dreams. She knew that Lando desired nothing more than to start a family of their own, and she shared in that longing with every fibre of her being. But now, as she stood on the precipice of uncertainty, she couldn't help but wonder if the timing was right, if their fragile existence could withstand the added strain of parenthood.
As the seconds ticked by with excruciating slowness, she paced the confines of the bathroom, her nerves frayed and her heart pounding in her ears. With each passing moment, the pressure mounted, the weight of her anticipation threatening to suffocate her in its relentless grip. And then, finally, as the three minutes elapsed, she dared to steal a glance at the test before her, her breath catching in her throat as she braced herself for the revelation that awaited.
“Lando!” Amelia exclaimed as she stood staring at the test on the counter. Her voice was panicked and immediately caught Lando’s attention. He waited a moment before hearing her call for him again. “Lan!”
As Lando reached the top of the stairs, his heart raced with a mix of concern and anticipation. He found Amelia standing in the doorway of the bathroom, her eyes wide with disbelief as she stared at something on the counter. Without a word, Lando rushed to her side, his own anxiety mounting with each passing second.
“What’s wrong?” He asked urgently, his voice laced with worry as he followed her gaze to the test lying on the counter.
His breath caught in his throat as he took in the sight, his mind racing with a whirlwind of emotions. Amelia turned to him, her expression a mixture of fear and uncertainty.
“I took a test.” She murmured, her voice barely above a whisper as she reached out to grasp his hand in hers.
Lando's heart skipped a beat as he processed her words, his mind reeling at the implications of what she was saying. Without hesitation, he stepped closer, his eyes never leaving hers as he gently squeezed her hand in a silent gesture of support.
“Okay.” He replied softly, his voice tinged with a hint of apprehension. “Is it positive?”
“Uh huh.” She whispered, studying his demeanour as he picked up the test.
“Wowie.” He echoed, his voice barely above a whisper as he looked back down at the test in his hand.
Amelia couldn't help but mirror his smile, relief flooding through her at his reaction. Despite the uncertainty of their situation, she couldn't deny the flicker of hope that ignited within her at the thought of starting a family with Lando. The thought brought silent tears to her eyes, trickling down her cheeks.
Seeing the tears trickling down Amelia's cheeks, Lando's grin softened into a tender smile. Without hesitation, he reached out to gently wipe away her tears, his touch warm and reassuring against her skin.
“Hey, why the tears, huh?” He murmured softly, his voice laced with concern and affection.
Amelia sniffled, struggling to find the words to express the tumult of emotions swirling inside her. She reached out to grasp Lando's hand, holding it tightly as she met his gaze with watery eyes.
“I don't know.” She admitted, her voice trembling slightly. "I guess it's just the timing with everything happening.”
Lando's expression softened further at her words, his thumb gently stroking her cheek as he leaned in to press a tender kiss to her forehead.
“Listen to me.” He whispered, his voice barely above a whisper. “I know things might seem scary right now, but we'll figure it out, okay? Together. We've faced tough times before, and we've always come out stronger on the other side. Now it’s you, me, and peanut in this together.”
Amelia's heart swelled with love as she gazed up at Lando, her fears slowly melting away in the warmth of his embrace. Amelia chuckled through her tears at Lando's endearing choice of nickname.
“Peanut? Really?” She teased gently, her voice still laced with emotion. Lando grinned, his eyes sparkling with affection as he gently caressed her stomach.
“Well, I bet it's still small, no?” He quipped playfully, his tone warm and teasing. Amelia nodded, a soft smile tugging at her lips as she leaned into his touch.
“That's true.” She agreed softly, feeling a surge of warmth and love enveloping her heart.
Lando's grin softened into a tender smile as he gazed down at her, his eyes filled with adoration.
“Oh, honey, you're going to be the best Mumma to our peanut.” He murmured, his voice filled with unwavering confidence and love.
Amelia's laughter mixed with tears as she nestled into Lando's embrace, feeling overwhelmed with joy and gratitude.
“A baby, Lan.” She whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.
Lando tightened his arms around her, holding her close as he pressed a gentle kiss to the top of her head.
“Our baby. A little bit of you, a little bit of me, and a whole lot of magic.” He murmured softly, his words filled with awe and wonder. Amelia sniffled, her heart swelling with love as she looked up at him through watery eyes.
“Shut up.” She teased playfully, her lips curling into a watery smile as she reached up to wipe away her tears.
Lando kissed her gently and pressed her against the counter before lifting her up onto it to sit. He lifted her shirt and kissed her stomach under her belly button.
“Hey, little baby.” Lando whispered against her stomach. Amelia giggled as Lando showered her stomach with kisses, feeling a rush of warmth and love envelop her.
“Stop, you're too cute.” She protested, but her heart swelled with affection at his tender words.
“It's your Dad here.” Lando continued, his voice filled with adoration. “Be good to Mumma while you're in there so she can take good care of you when you're ready to be in the world with us.”
Amelia's smile softened, touched by Lando's words, but a hint of doubt lingered in her mind.
“Lan, baby, it could have been a false positive.” She reminded him gently, her hand resting on his cheek. Lando brushed off her concerns with a dismissive wave of his hand.
“Oh, hush. Let me have a moment with my peanut.” He insisted, pressing a soft kiss to her lips.

Valley Towers
The building distinguishes itself in several ways: firstly, it combines offices, shops, catering, cultural facilities, and apartments in one building; secondly, unlike the closed-off buildings elsewhere in the Zuidas, the green valley that winds between the towers on the fourth and fifth floors is accessible to everyone via two external stone staircases. The building’s extensive planting, designed by landscape architect Piet Oudolf, hosts approximately 13,500 young plants, shrubs, and trees. As these mature over the coming years, they will give Valley an increasingly green appearance, making the building a manifesto for a greener city.
Valley is an attempt to bring a green and human dimension back to the inhospitable office environment of Amsterdam Zuidas. It is a building with multiple faces; on the outer edges of the building is a shell of smooth mirrored glass, which fits the context of the business district. Inside this shell, the building has a completely different, more inviting natural appearance, as if the glass block has crumbled away to reveal craggy rock faces inside replete with natural stone and greenery.

“The U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy routinely conduct operations in the Far North alongside Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian air forces and naval, and the Arctic Challenge provided enhanced opportunities for NATO allies and partners to integrate with U.S. strategic bombers and Ford aircraft carrier class in a new environment,” said a U.S. Air Forces press release in Europe.
Tumblr media
The B-1s are in Europe as part of a deployment of the Bomber Task Force at the RAF Base in Fairford, United Kingdom. Since they arrived two weeks ago, the aviators and the aircraft have been busy. On May 23, a B-1 was intercepted by a Russian fighter in the Baltic Sea region. On May 30, a bomber flew over Bosnia and Herzegovina, in a demonstration of support amid the ongoing unrest in the area. And on June 1º, a B-1 integrated into the allied forces during a small strength exercise in France and Belgium.
Tumblr media
His participation in the Arctic Exercise Challenge, however, marks his greatest training opportunity so far - and the first time American bombers have flown in the biennial exercise since it began in 2013.
Tumblr media
In addition to the B-1, the U.S. Air Force is flying F-35 and F-15 from the 48ª Fighter Wing of Lakenheath RAF Base, UK, in the exercise, as well as KC-135 from the 100ª Air Refueling Wing of the RAF Base of Mildenhall, UK, and the Maine National Air Guard.
Tumblr media
Sweden is leading the exercise, with aircraft also stationed in Norway and Finland. The USA, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark and the Czech Republic sent personnel and aircraft.
Tumblr media
"By training and performing realistic exercises in the Far North, such as the Arctic Challenge Exercise 2023, U.S. forces and allied and partner nations improve skills, adjust interoperability, nurture important relationships and adapt to the inherent challenges posed by the struggle in the extreme conditions of the Arctic," said a USAFE press release.

Netherlands and Molossia bonding over weed botany and flowers
Molossia teaching Luxembourg all about gardening and them having a little conservatory (they sometimes get mystery gifts of tulip bulbs)
Molossia being 100% convinced that Lux is way too good for him
Lux, at the same time, admiring literally everything about Molossia because his existence contradicts everything he learned
Belgium (with Canada) convincing Lux to invite Molossia on a surprise double date (it ends Badly™️)

Hera spacecraft to return to binary asteroid to survey crater left by DART One of last year's space highlights was the NASA DART mission's collision with Dimorphos, the small moon of the binary asteroid Didymos (seen left). The impact measurably shifted the target asteroid's orbit around its primary while casting a plume of debris thousand of kilometers out into space. Next comes ESA's Hera spacecraft which will return to the binary asteroid to perform a close-up survey of the crater left by DART, as well as measuring Dimorphos' mass and make-up, along with that of its central body. "Hera is due to be launched in October 2024," explains Ian Carnelli, heading the mission. "In order to make that deadline our team has been working hard during the last year to finalize and test the various spacecraft subsystems—including the two CubeSats that will be deployed from Hera itself in the vicinity of Dimorphos. Meanwhile the overall mission passed its system Critical Design Review at the end of 2022, at the same time as Hera received funding for its launcher and operations. "This coming year is when everything comes together: all elements of the Hera flight model are due to be integrated so that we can perform a full campaign of environmental testing on the spacecraft at ESA's ESTEC Test Center in the Netherlands. So this is going to be another extremely busy year, but at the end of it we aim to be well on track for launch." The ESTEC Test Center is the largest satellite test facility in Europe, equipped with facilities to simulate every aspect of the launch and space environment. Hera's spacecraft-level test campaign is forecast to begin in the autumn. Hera will be equipped with automated guidance, navigation and control to allow it to safely navigate the double-asteroid system, akin in function to a self-driving car. Its desk-sized body will carry instruments including an optical Asteroid Framing Camera, supplemented by thermal and spectral imagers, as well as a laser altimeter for surface mapping. Hera is also three spacecraft in one, because it will also deliver a pair of shoebox-sized CubeSats to the vicinity of Dimorphos. The Juventas CubeSat will perform the first ever radar probe of an asteroid interior, while also carrying a gravimeter and accelerometer to measure the body's ultra-low gravity and surface mechanical response. The other CubeSat, Milani—named after the mission's original inventor—will perform near-infrared spectral imaging and sample asteroid dust. The CubeSat pair will remain in contact with their Hera mothership and each other through a novel inter-satellite link system, to build up experience of overseeing multiple spacecraft in exotic near-weightlessness, before eventually touching down on Dimorphos. NASA's DART and ESA's Hera missions have been supported by the same international teams of scientists and astronomers, and take place through an international collaboration called AIDA—the Asteroid Impact and Deflection Assessment. Planetary defense has no borders and is a great example of what international collaboration can achieve.

Caesarea, Israel - Wikipedia
The modern town is named after the nearby ancient city of Caesarea Maritima, built by Herod the Great about 25–13 BCE as a major port. It served as an administrative center of the province of Judaea (later named Syria Palaestina) in the Roman Empire, and later as the capital of the Byzantine province of Palaestina Prima. During the Muslim conquest in the 7th century, it was the last city of the Holy Land to fall to the Arabs. The city degraded to a small village after the provincial capital was moved to Ramla and had an Arab majority until Crusader conquest. Under the Crusaders it became once again a major port and a fortified city. It was diminished after the Mamluk conquest. In 1884, Herzegovinian Muslim immigrants who left Austria-Hungary were settled there by the Ottoman authorities. At the time, Caesarea was a semi-demolished archaeological site. Seferović writes that the Herzegovinian Muslims were completely assimilated into Arab culture. In 1940, kibbutz Sdot Yam was established next to the village. In February 1948, the village was taken and depopulated by a Palmach unit commanded by Yitzhak Rabin, following an earlier attack on a bus by the Lehi paramilitary group.
Rothschild Caesarea Foundation and Development Corporation
After the establishment of the State of Israel, the Rothschild family agreed to transfer most of its land holdings to the new state. A different arrangement was reached for the 35,000 dunams of land the family owned in and around modern Caesarea: after turning over the land to the state, it was leased back (for a period of 200 years) to a new charitable foundation. In his will, Edmond James de Rothschild stipulated that this foundation would further education, arts and culture, and welfare in Israel. The Caesarea Edmond Benjamin de Rothschild Foundation was formed and run based on the funds generated by the sale of Caesarea land which the Foundation is responsible for maintaining. The Foundation is owned half by the Rothschild family, and half by the State of Israel.[citation needed]
The Rothschild Caesarea Foundation established the Caesarea Edmond Benjamin de Rothschild Development Corporation Ltd. (CDC; Hebrew: החברה לפיתוח קיסריה אדמונד בנימין דה רוטשילד) in 1952 to act as its operations arm. The company transfers all profits from the development of Caesarea to the Foundation, which in turn contributes to organizations that advance higher education and culture across Israel.[citation needed] The goal of the CDC is to establish a unique community that combines quality of life and safeguarding the environment with advanced industry and tourism.[citation needed]
Today, the Chairman of the Rothschild Caesarea Foundation and the CDC is Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, the great-grandson of Baron Edmond de Rothschild.
As well as carrying out municipal services, the CDC markets plots for real-estate development, manages the nearby industrial park, and runs the Caesarea's golf course and country club, Israel's only 18-hole golf course.[citation needed]
Modern Caesarea, or Kesariya, remains today the only locality in Israel managed by a private organization rather than a municipal government. It is one of Israel's most upscale residential communities. The Baron de Rothschild still maintains a home in Caesarea, as do many business tycoons from Israel and abroad.[citation needed]
I'm suffering a bit of shock and amazement, right now. I've recently been studying American history closer and just last night found out that New Jersey's lesser known second name is Caesarea. I know I'd planned to look more into it, today, but before I even could, the article about Israelis boycotting near Netanyahu's home was reported, this morning; in the town of Caesarea.
"5. New Jersey had the alternate name of New Caesarea.
In 1664, King Charles II gave a charter for New Netherland, the land between the Connecticut and Delaware Rivers, to his brother James, the Duke of York. James, in turn, sent a fleet to chase out the Dutch, who also had claimed the area, and then gave a lease for a portion of the land to Lord John Berkeley, Baron of Stratton, and Sir George Carteret, a British naval officer who had helped defend the island of Jersey and keep it in Royalist hands during the English Civil Wars.
In honor of Carteret’s services to the Crown, James insisted upon calling the colony New Jersey, with the alternative name of New Caesarea, after the Roman name for the island of Jersey..."

An idea of the future
You know, the future has always quite scared me. I think because so much happened across the years it has become rather difficult to look out and plan ahead for a few years because I am so used to life throwing me a curveball every once so often. Now that I am 20 I think I finally am seeing something ahead of me that is somewhat steady. Steady and achievable.
I think the most interesting thing is that across the couple of months and the new environments I have found myself in people keep giving me the exact same idea as I personally have of my future. And it is rather interesting to see how close me and my best friend can get to each other's idea of the future without ever really talking about it in the first place. We tend to be on one line a lot regardless even if we haven't seen each other for a long while we still manage to have the same incentives and same ways of parroting.
It was good to talk to them about the future and ridiculously heartwarming and important to me to hear that they see themselves in my future as much as I see me in theirs. That hasn't always been the case for me and it was a silent reassurance that no matter what we will stay friends. Modern technology helps a lot but they also said that if I were to emigrate they'd send me letters with little trinkets they find everywhere that remind them of me and I'd send them back dried flowers and small stones found on a beach together with the letter.
I think that the one thing I have heard the most about what people envision me to do is to become a writer, and if that doesn't sustain me enough I'd have a teaching job on the side. They also all tell me I'd live in a small town, close to nature.
And I very much agree.
Me and my best friend tend to speak in colours and in nature scenes, people have certain feels and we communicate those by means of colours and scenes. I have synaesthesia when it comes to feelings and colours and by extent people have colours. Renn has always been ridiculously good at figuring out my feelings when I couldn't put them into words and described them as colours. I think it might partially be the fact we are both neurodivergent.
I am going off in many tangents, the tl;dr of this story is that while I have always been rather scared of making plans for the future or dreaming of a fantasy that is perhaps not within reach this is more and more seeming like a clear and achievable picture and I am just simply not used to that. Like I am not to so many things that maybe should feel normal. Although I think my entire generation is quite cautious when it comes to a future mainly because of all the ways the world has been going.
I think I'd like escaping to a small cottage on top of a cliffside, a small town not too far away and a lighthouse shining in the distance with a dog and two cats. Writing books, teaching kids and perhaps accidentally taking a few with problems under my wing. It seems like it is something I was always meant to do. So maybe.
One thing is abundantly getting clearer; I don't think I want to stay in the Netherlands. It's too busy here, too full, too crowded with the impending doom of rising sea levels on top of it. My dad told me not to be too pessimistic but I have trouble seeing my future in this rushed country with nearly 18 million people. It just doesn't suit me.
I hope my health issues just won't get in the way of being able to emigrate.
I'd likely end up in a Celtic country regardless, always had a weird affinity for them.
The scene I would be or would be living in would be described somewhere along these lines:
okay so, imagine a slightly unruly sea, it's windy but not cold, a morning fresh around dawn, too dark to actually be considered light but the stars have gone away. It's a somewhat secluded beach, small patch of meadow with deers on one side that changes slowly into dense woods and rocky and grey cliffs on the other side, the rocks the kind people climb on. The sand is leaning towards a white-ish colour and there's a very small pier where you can sit and stick your feet in the water. It's quite the way from the small town however the lighthouse is close by and the outline visible within the dark grey air. On top of the cliffs stands a small dark wooden cottage, cluttered with creative stuff and books everywhere, a half handwritten letter with some dried flowers on the desk. Paintings drying beside the kitchen sink. Besides the desk stands a shelf that displays a variety of mismatched trinkets; all send to me by best friend. There's an old wooden chair outside on the porch, a golden retriever dog and two cats lazing about. Dawn but one after a night fuelled with insomnia, a sleepy and calm morning.

Kim Seokjin Past Life
This is solely based on intuition and clairs, no cards were used.Feel free to ask any questions you have.Entertainment purposes only.
As I was writing my to do list, he was basically like « hi, I’ll show you my past life right now if you want me to! ».So I followed him and he led me to a very beautiful forest, with a lot of light. He led me to a house where he was living with a wife and a few kids.It was very beautiful and peaceful !I think his wife was very knowledgeable about herbalism and nature, she might have been some sort of famous witch-healer or traditional practitioner, I see many books with drawings of different plants and mushrooms, and a lot of herbs are hanging on thread to dry.It was a small, cosy, warm cottage in the forest with a nice homely fireplace.I’m getting the idea of Celtic or Saxon ?So this life could have happened in the country side of Germany, Ireland, Great Britain or the Netherlands ?Its also possible it happened in Canada among colons but I don’t know enough about Canada to tell 🤔I’m also thinking about this Island near Canada/US which belongs/used to belong to the Netherlands ?
For the most part, the lessons in this life were centered around 2 things :being of service and taking care of his family.I think he took his role very seriously. However, this lesson seems to have seeped out into this life as well, there’s a small sense of “unfinished business” that he wants to tie up in this life, where he has to learn the lesson from a different approach. It’s like in the past life he learnt peace by experiencing it through his environment and in this life he has to learn it by finding it and making it happen in his life, as his current inclination would be avoidance or carelessness and pouting/complaining instead of taking action.I’m also getting a small thing about one of his younger children dying, and him promising the child to meet again. He will meet them again in this life it seems, maybe not as his child but as someone younger than him.
Overall, in this past life, Seokjin was a happy husband and father, who did his best to take care of his family and provide.

Njordlyd's 'Correlations Part Three' The Journey Continues
Njordlyd - Correlations Part Three
Music Genre: Electronic Sub-genre: Ambient; Dark ambient; Industrial ambient; Experimental ambient; Downtempo; Soundscapes; Drone; Experimental; Vibe: Soundscape: Atmospheric; Focus; Concentration; Meditation; Relaxing; Chill Located in: Den Haag, The Netherlands Sounds like: Mount Shrine / r beny / Burial
“Correlations” is my second EP as Njordlyd.
An EP consisting of 5 tracks that continues the industrial and dark ambient-styled music from the album “Getting Closer”. Most of the tracks on the album makes use of field recordings, transportation samples and samples in general. Moving vehicles such as trains, trams and metros (amongst others). Same goes for field recordings: water dripping, rain falling, breaking waves and birds. This EP is no exception. It continues the journey through stretched samples, field recordings and “reshaped” pieces of music and audio related content and creations. The main difference is: This EP is mainly based on “reshaping” of recorded live studio sessions from 2018 and 2019.
Correlation is a broader concept that goes beyond the album, but is interlinked. In 2018 I was stuck. Having created lots of music for years, but not completed and not releasing  anything. A frustrating period of time in my life. In September that year, I was in need of a change, and started working with iPads and apps, just to see where that would take me in terms of creating and completing music. It started with setting up a small and minimal setup, which I practiced and learned to use well. A totally different way of working for me and much more experimental and improvised than what I was used to. It ended up being more like a live setup and over the course of a year (2018 to 2019) I recorded over a 100 live “sessions”. In the end I did not complete anything for release and went back to the more classic DAW approach. I naturally started reshaping tracks from before 2018, which led to the release of the 5 singles in 2021-22 (Phase One). I am still not sure why it turned out this way, but I am confident that it is linked to (correlating) the 2018 to 2019 period. Without having done that, I am quite sure I would not have been where I am today with my music.
“Correlations Part One” is the 8th track on the album Getting Closer and the 1st track on the EP “Correlations”. The start of the track has a dominant noise-like sound. It gives the impression of travelling through the air, going somewhere, far away, maybe space. Leaving earth, going somewhere, far away. Throughout the track there is A feeling of uncertainty, almost apprehensive. It feels moody and harsh, a slightly gritty atmosphere. Uncomfortable, possibly passing through unknowns, unfamiliar feelings. What will the journey bring, what is the destination?
“Correlations Part Two” is the 9th track on the album Getting Closer and the 2nd track on the EP “Correlations”. A journey observing the passage of time, the feeling of slipping or drifting away, a wandering mind. Gradually adopting or adjusting to a certain situation. A particular moment of time, a snapshot of a particular part of a long journey. The sensation of travelling through space, somewhere in the future. Indistinct or fuzzy communication and chatter in the background. Arriving somewhere, …. an unknown destination, leaving the question, is this the last destination or is it just another stop on the way to …..
“Correlations Part Three” is the 3rd track on the EP “Correlations”. The journey continues with the feeling of being sad, somewhere in a melancholic place (or space) with life and activity. A nature-like environment, open and spacious. It then slowly transitions into a somewhat more active or busy place (or space), a less nature-like environment. Somewhere with a slightly more industrial and underground feel to it, a sort of downwards atmosphere.
“Correlations Part Four” is the 4th track on the EP “Correlations”. A transition to an almost paradise-like environment. The feeling of being relaxed and calm, the comforting sound of birds whistling in the background. Is it a forest, somewhere in the woods …. an ancient woodland? Again, the journey starts to deviate from its original course. It starts to get a bit more intense. Slowly moving away, the place becomes more and more distant. Moving back towards reality. Enjoying the last comforting sound of birds whistling while the mood of the atmosphere slowly changes to something more busy, ….. more comprehensive.
“Correlations Part Five” is the 5th track on the EP “Correlations”. This track closes off the EP with a more moody and slightly darker tone to it, but with the influence of nature still present or intact. The fringe of nature. In equal measure, indistinct and fuzzy chatter in the background. People holding on to something, but at the same time trying to adjust, …. to change. Slowly it gets more frantic, …. more determined. Something to overcome ….
Njordlyd The Artist
Njordlyd is a creator of experimental, dark and industrial ambient soundscapes.
"When creating music, I let the sounds, ideas, mood, and current inspiration control me until a certain point, where it all turns, and I naturally take over the control."
The Person
“Creating music is when I feel I am who I am and where I can be who I am"
I started listening to music when I was around 11 and have been directly involved with music since 1991, where I was involved in several underground music projects, collaborations and releases. The period from 1998 and until the end of 2014 was a phase of self-discovery, where I was absorbed in the process of music creation, learning and focused on defining my sound.
The Music
Towards the end of 2014, I began making music as Njordlyd (my current project) with the release of Silent Echoes (EP) in 2015 and the 2-track single Ghost Running in 2017. In 2021 I started working on a 3 year plan, with 3 phases. Each phase runs from April to April. As part of Phase 1 (April 2021 to April 2022) five 1-track singles has been released: "Circles", "Subconsciously", "Perception", "Voices" and "Clouds".
Phase 2 started in September 2022 with the release of a 2-track single “Interlaced”, which was followed up by the release of the album “Getting Closer” in mid November. In 2023 Phase 2 will be concluded with the release of the single Correlations Part Two and the EP “”Correlations (5 tracks).
Phase 3 will commence in August / September with the release of a single (TBA). Upon completion of Phase 3 in march / April 2024 I will do a wrap of all my music from 2015 - 2024.
My musical inspiration comes from artists such as Future Sound of London, Biosphere, Burial, Marconi Union, Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Massive Attack, Portishead and Marconi Union (amongst others).
The Name
Njord was the Norse god of the sea, sailing, fishing and fertility, and a name that I really like. “lyd” means sound, so Njord is a kind of pseudonym, combined with what I do (music), which is related to sound, hence Njordlyd (Njord’s sound). Video link: https://youtu.be/NBn9Owo_3DA
