In Arabic we don’t say “you’re my love” we say "يا عمري" which literally translates to “my lifetime” because we believe that love is supposed to be ageless and last for all of eternity.

NEW MAP: Northern Africa 110: Trajan’s Red Sea expansion (circa 110) https://omniatlas.com/maps/northern-africa/1101214/ When Trajan assumed power in 98 AD, the Roman Empire entered its most expansionist phase since the reign of Augustus. Particularly interested in the East, Trajan secured Indian Ocean trade by annexing Nabataea, building a canal to link the Nile to the Red Sea, and, in the south of that sea, establishing a garrison on tropical Farasan island. #trajan #ancientrome #romanemperor #carta #romanafrica #farasan #historian #histories #historyclass #historymajor #historymuseum #mapa #mapmaking #mapping #maps #northernafrica #parthia #riskgame #roman #romanempire #romanhistory #romanegypt #romans #ancientarabia #spqr #emperortrajan #ancientegypt #ancienthistory #teachinghistory #newmap (at Farasan Islands) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKF1BQ9AxfR/?igshid=133v6ffwknhih

This was our first time in Morocco. It was pretty exciting not knowing what to expect. We definitely didn’t expect our host tuned in to a 70s radio station playing Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven.

#MetalMondays: Designing frames for historic and/or cultural objects is something in which we take great pleasure. Here, a beaded vest from Morocco we framed for a client of interior designer Kathy Abbott. The vest -- the craftsmanship of which was typical of the beautiful work being done in Morocco in the early 20th century and prior -- is a keepsake the client’s parents bought on a trip right after World War II. Abbott worked with Bark designer Kate Truisi to design a frame for this intricate piece. The vest is sewn on to a Belgian Oyster Linen-wrapped backing board, with matching linen wrapped fillets. The frame itself is 3/8"-wide brass with a medium patina and wax finish. Client and designer chose the brass frame because it complimented the darker brown tones in the vest’s fabric so nicely without detracting from any of the detailed stitches. #Morocco #textiles #keepsakes #KathyAbbottInteriors #BarkFrameworks #interiordecor #interiordesign #customframes #FramedbyBark #northernafrica #keepsakes #worldtravel #clothing #vest #beading #beadwork #sewing #linen (at Westchester County, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXcLfRhlP1m/?utm_medium=tumblr

Volubilis is a partly excavated Berber and Roman city in Morocco situated near the city of Meknes, and commonly considered as the ancient capital of the kingdom of Mauretania. First a Berber, then proto-Carthaginian, settlement before becoming the capital of the kingdom of Mauretania. It grew rapidly under Roman rule. Juba II of Numidia was placed on the Mauretanian throne by Augustus in 25 BC and built a royal capital at Volubilis. Juba II was married to Cleopatra Selene II, the daughter of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. It was here that Moulay Idriss established the Idrisid dynasty of Morocco in 787-8. A direct descendant of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad. He was proclaimed "imam" in Volubilis. He conquered most of Northern Morocco during the three years of his reign, founding the city of Fes. He was assassinated in Volubilis in 791. #morocco #moroccotravel #moroccan #history #roman #berber #cleopatra #egypt #markanthony #ruins #ancient #northernafrica #africa #archeology #fes #islamic (at Volubilis وليلي, Meknès)

Travel Reminiscence Day 2. #Morocco My first and most reliable vehicle on the African continent. I do not remember if I accepted the #fez being offered me. If I had only known it would become a #DoctorWho thing. I think Wendy Sandquist and Marilyn Retzer followed in tandem. #travel #Camel #adventure #africa #northernafrica #dromedary https://www.instagram.com/p/CDXITNfMsFC/?igshid=1a0ls9fj4vjgf

NEW MAP: Northern Africa 1914: Ottoman Entry into WWI (29 October 1914) https://omniatlas.com/maps/northern-africa/19141029/ The outbreak of World War I exacerbated mistrust between the Ottoman Empire and the Allied powers of Britain and Russia. After the British requisitioned warships being built for them, the Ottomans signed a secret alliance with Germany, agreed to provide sanctuary to German cruisers, and closed the Turkish Straits. In October they raided Russian bases in the Black Sea, prompting Russia to declare war. #1910s #1914 #20thcentury #ottoman #carta #francophone #germanempire #historicalmaps #histories #historisch #history #historyinthemaking #historylover #historymajor #historyschool #ottomanempire #maps #modernhistory #northernafrica #october #october29 #oldmaps #russianempire #ww1 #greatwar #worldwar1 #turkey #britishempire #worldhistory #newmap (at Istanbul, Turkey) https://www.instagram.com/p/CH91iz8AJsm/?igshid=zo2lbuissobp
