My friend Elmie moved to California a little over a year ago and her birthday is in a couple of days. I got this pre written paragraph ima send her when the clock strikes 12 on the west coast. I’m so sentimental when it comes to the people I truly love. Currently thinking about all those times she’d pull up on me and we’d talk for houurrrrssss. How I stayed with her for like 3 weeks when her dad was in the Philippines. All the times she’d kidnap me and we would blow it dowwwnnn😂 all the trips to the beach. The LAUGHS 🤣😭 How she’d swing on anybody who tried to wake her up out her sleep lmaooo. You’d have to tap her with a broom or some shit. All of our countlesss memories. Like I’m glad she finally spread her wings and started living for herself, because that was definitely a foreign concept to her for a long time. I remember praying she finally realized she deserved so much better. From partners, from friends, from life. But I love and miss her man. So much. Anyone who knows her knows.. she’s one of a kind. And she’s known by many lol there isn’t a single norview head that don’t know who she is. I miss my dawwggggg

The public is invited to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for Five Points Civic Plaza Park on Saturday, October 23, from 11:00 am -2:00 pm at the intersection of Norview Avenue and Sewells Point Road. Commencement of remarks is set for 11:30 a.m.
As part of the new Five Points Civic Plaza Park, residents will get to enjoy green space for gatherings, a play park for children, and a community garden. The Department of Public Works will also make improvements to the intersection. Early winter of 2021 is projected to be the start of construction.
Projects and improvements planned for the area include the Five Points Civic Plaza Park. The City of Norfolk held a Better Block Build Plan in 2015 to gather feedback and suggestions from residents and business owners. Afterward, some ideas test against the Imagine Five Points. Residents wanted more landscaping and an entertainment venue at that time.

*** YOU READ IT RIGHT *** Sorry for the long messge, however... Read it through before you respond in my comments. So, it's that time that God has made it clear, we've outgrown our existing home (We more than overstayed our time there) & it's time to MOVE! Now, with THAT being clear, I'm putting this out to all of you that I'm reaching out for some suggestions, yet & still there's some criteria we're looking for. We already have a realtor, mortgage broker, & a credit specialist, so purchasing a home is in the future (Just not now, unless God says otherwise)... Because of that, we're looking to rent A.S.A.P. already looking into Zillow, Craigslist, & our realtor gave us access to her MLS, so... Any other suggestions you may have would be AWESOME! Also, we're looking for at least; * 4 bedrooms * 2 bathrooms * (3) dog friendly (1 of them is a pitbul) * In the Norview area of Norfolk (Preferably) I know it's a lot, however... We serve an AWEWOME GOD & there's plenty of you here that may know other ways to find what we're looking for. (at Norfolk, Virginia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLJ_MnxBw5r/?igshid=muimhficjm1q

“In the years leading up to 1868, the need for assisting the unfortunate, the indigent, the poor, the sick, the orphaned and all those requiring social assistance had been discussed, considered and reconsidered by the Norfolk County Council. The general attitude of the public regarding these individuals and families seemed to be that they got what they deserved. Through the influence of William Mercer wilson and others like him, Council determined to establish an Industrial Farm / House of Refuge (often referred to as the Poorhouse) at this location. Norfolk County was the first municipal government, in the Province of Ontario, to do so and many others soon followed.
In 1868, the facility was established. Council had previously purchased one hundred acres of land from Zebulan Landon, U.E., in the northerly part of lot 16 and 17 Woodhouse Township for the sum of $3,200.00. It was decided to use the existing buildings on this property and on June 12th, Council ordered the procurement of the necessary furnishings, utensils and livestock to open the Poorhouse and Industrial Farm. Crops already planted would be harvested by the inmates. The first officer and matron, Mr. and Mrs. Wallis, were hired. The first resident, a forty-one year old man from Townsend, was admitted on October 12, 1868 and by the year's end the number of inmates totaled eighteen. When the 1871 Census was taken in April, the number had risen to thirty-two.
The house extended about 100 feet in length and in 1877 there were forty inmates besides the help living in it. There were two large chimneys centrally located in the main building and a smaller chimney served in the older sections, which were mainly used by the help.
On the night of Saturday, August 4, 1877 the building burned. Seventeen inmates, some old and some young, lost their lives in one of the most horrific fires Norfolk County has ever seen. Seven men, eight women and two boys, burned to death. The newspapers of the day indicated that their remains were buried at five p.m. the following day in the poor-house burying grounds close by. Four other men were badly burned and hope for their survival was not good. Two did not survive.
The County received two thousand dollars insurance on the building and contents and by September 1877, they had contacted A.J. Dalby, of Jarvis, to build a new brick building at a cost of $45,000.00. This new facility opened in June 1878 and served as the County Home until a new and modern structure was built to the north in 1961 - Norview. An addition was built in 1966 and this facility served the area until 2005, when the Norview Lodge opened west of its original location.
In this immediate area, between 1868 and mid 1930's, more than 200 inmaes of the Industrial Farm were buried. Unfortunately, no map or plan of the cemetery can be found.
It appears, from the cemetery records that do exist, that the burials were done rather haphazardly. Death and burial records show that several hundred burials took place.
Today, twenty-eight grave markers survive and provide us with little information.
These monuments were moved to their present location in the early 1970's under the supervision of Mr. Robert Landon and Mr. Cecil Pettinger.
No doubt, some stones were not located at the time and may still be buried beneath the overgrowth today. Local individuals have identified the location of the burial grounds as they recall them and it is generally agreed by most that it was in this immediate area.
Here we recognize and remember those numerous individuals, who through no fault of their own, are buried in this sacred location. We will never know the name of every individual who was interred in the Poorhouse Burial Ground but in place this record we recognize them for the contribution they made, their humanity and for the lives they lived."
