eddie munson x henderson!fem reader
summary: you were a part of hellfire long before your brother and his friends got to high school, yet they fit right into the club while you get pushed aside.
requested: no
word count: 6.4k
warnings: light angst, jealousy, brief arguing/raised voices, lots of fluff, kissing, fake gagging, few curse words
a/n: i apparently can’t write short fics for eddie, but i don’t think anyone is complaining about it. plus, i think the fics are freaking adorable & i’m highkey kinda proud of them. so i hope you continue enjoying them, as i’ve got plenty of ideas for him with more coming daily. if you’ve got an idea you’d like done (for eddie or any other st character) feel free to send it my way & i’ll give it a go. also, i couldn’t think of a better title than this, but the actual fic has no purposeful inpsiration from the olivia rodrigo song. i hope you enjoy it regardless! Xx
Part 2 out now!
Tumblr media
You groan as you see your brother and his friends make their way through the cafeteria towards you. Knowing it was their first day of high school, you had no doubt they’d try to sit with you. It’s not that you don’t want them to, but you’re terrified that they’ll embarrass you in front of your long-standing crush and dungeon master.
It had been a few months into your freshman year of high school when the small group of friends you’d found yourself in started ranting about how weird and creepy the Hellfire club - and their leader, Eddie Munson - was. You didn’t quite hold the same opinions, though, since you’d been playing the game for a few years by then. In fact, you had only recently given it up when the friend you played with moved towns.
It was during one of your free periods when their ranting became a bit annoying to you. You had started correcting and fact-checking them, forgetting that Eddie shared the study hall with you. You never even gave it a thought that he could hear the four of you talking until he stopped you at your locker after that period - the day, luckily, being over.
He wanted to know how you knew so much about the game which is when you admitted you had played. Of course that knowledge completely floored him.
When he was able to pull himself back together, though, he offered for you to join them at lunch the following day to meet the group and see if you wanted to become their newest member. You agreed, and within the week found yourself a permanent part of hellfire with your own shirt and everything.
It’s been two and a half years since then and you were still a part of the group, happily devoting your Thursday evenings to play the game. Within these past couple years and all the Thursdays you’ve spent in his presence, though, you found yourself falling hard for Eddie.
It’s nearly impossible not to when he’s so charismatic and funny. Not to mention how kind, passionate, and beautiful he is. You’d swear he was a fucking angel, regardless of the image he tries to portray.
“Y/n! Can we sit here with you? Please?” You hear your brother almost beg, catching your attention as your heart starts to race.
You’ve never mentioned to the group that you have a younger brother, especially not a younger brother that also plays D&D. You knew they’d want to be introduced to him, and you fear that he'd slowly come to replace you in the group.
“Who’re these kids?” Eddie questions, hands clasped in front of his face as he looks between you and the three younger boys standing behind you.
“Uh, Dustin, here, is my brother.” You start, nodding towards him as he smiles.
“A-and these are his friends, Mike and Lucas.”
“A young Henderson…hmm? Tell me, do you guys play?” Eddie asks the three boys, catching them off guard, their mouths opening and closing as they figure out how to answer.
“They do. They’ve been playing for a few years.” You answer for them, motioning for them to just sit down.
“Thank you.” Mike and Lucas mouth, having sat on the same side of the table as you with Dustin.
You sigh, smiling lightly as you nod to them. Of course you don’t want to upset Eddie, but you’re also not going to leave your brother and his friends to fend for themselves.
Wanting to move on, you take a bite of your lunch, hoping that Eddie leaves the topic of the boys joining you alone. Having known him for three years, though, you should know that he can’t.
“You’ve never mentioned having a brother, Henderson.” He comments, and you can practically feel his eyes on you as you stare at your food.
“The topic never really came up.”
“Not even when I’ve mentioned wanting to find new members?” He lightly smirks, curious as to why you’d keep such a thing secret.
Surely you realize how great having a brother that plays D&D is? Within the year most of you will be graduating, and he needs someone to pass the dungeon master title on to. Your younger brother and his friends just starting high school couldn’t be a better option.
“Figured you’d find him and his friends soon enough anyways.” you comment, still not looking up to the curly-haired adonis.
“Hmm, well they’ve saved me the work of searching them out by coming over here. Welcome to hellfire, boys.”
“Wait, you’re just letting them join?” Gareth questions.
“Yeah. You’ve seen Henderson play. If they know her then they’ve got to be good.” Eddie smiles, making your cheeks flush.
“They’re good, but not on my account.” You mumble.
“Nonsense. Still can’t believe you wouldn’t tell us about them before now, though.”
“How come you haven’t, y/n? I mean, you talk about them all the time.” Dustin asks, before taking a bite of his food.
At his statement, the rest of the group seem to perk up, curious to know what you say about each of them.
“I do not. I’ve only mentioned the club a few times.” You huff, feeling your cheeks heat up a bit more.
“Only a few times to mom and I, but I hear you on the phone with your friend talking about them every week.”
“First off, why’re you even listening to me on the phone? Secondly, the only reason I talk about the club is because I’m updating her on my life.”
“Got a rather boring life then.” Dustin quips and you simply gawk at him, not believing him right now as a few surprised chuckles leave the rest of the boys.
“Shut up and eat, Dustin. No one asked for your input.”
You watch him shrug before turning to Mike and Lucas while you stick to staring at your food, feeling the group's eyes on you. It’s bad enough you’re the only girl in the group, you didn’t need them to know you talk about them on a weekly basis.
Little do you realize that Eddie can’t help but find himself smiling at this new side of you. He’s been intrigued by you ever since he first heard you correcting your friends back in your freshman year. He couldn’t believe that such a beautiful girl would play the game he loved.
Of course, after watching you play and just spending time with you during lunch, he’s found himself crushing on you, even if you still remained a bit of a mystery to him. He couldn’t bring himself to tell you of his feelings, though. Not once in the three years he’s known you.
Hearing that you talk about the club, though, makes his heart race. You really enjoy their company so much that you’d talk about them to a friend? It’s insane to him, and yet it makes him feel giddy. He can’t help but wonder what you’ve said - about the club or about him.
~.~
“Lauren, I’m telling you! For as long as I’ve been a part of the club, my brother joins and suddenly that’s all they care about. They all like my brother and his friends better than me.” You sigh, turning onto your back as you stare at the ceiling.
“I highly doubt that, y/n. I’m sure it’s just that your brother and his friends are still new.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure, Laur. I mean, it’s not like I really bring anything to the group.”
“Y/n, you’re the only girl.”
“That doesn’t mean anything though.” You almost whine.
You hate to admit it, but you’ve been feeling left out of the club ever since your brother and his friends joined a few months ago. You had the feeling that this would happen, even though you hoped it wouldn’t.
It’s not like you really bring anything to the group, though, now that you’ve introduced Dustin, Lucas, and Mike to the club. Your character isn’t super powerful or helpful or anything. You’re not the best roller. You’re just there...seemingly wasting space.
“Pretty sure it does. I mean, the way you’ve talked about…what’s his name, Eddie?”
“What about him?”
“The way you’ve talked about him, it sounds like he likes you.”
“No. No, he doesn’t. I’m sure of that. He barely talks to me.” You sigh, rolling over onto your stomach as you bury your head into the pillows.
“Y/n, hon, boys are terrible at talking to the girls they like!” Lauren laughs, and you know she’s shaking her head at you.
“Not Eddie. He usually can’t stop flirting, and yet he doesn’t flirt with me. I don’t even think he’s ever actually called me by my name, Laur. I’m just...Henderson to him.”
“Maybe you make him nervous.”
“Me? Make him nervous? Laur, you’ve lost your mind!” You scoff, knowing you could never make a guy nervous.
Guys don’t even notice you, for crying out loud. How can you make them nervous?
“I don’t make guys nervous. Guys don’t even notice me, Laur. I’m not you.”
“Okay, now you’re just being down on yourself and I’m not going to have that. If this Eddie guy can’t see how fucking amazing you are, then he just doesn’t deserve you. Alright?”
“Not alright. I want him to like me. Like, a lot.” You pout.
“I’m telling you he does. If I’m wrong then I’ll drive myself down there and let you have free go at me. How’s that?”
“You know I’d never do that to you, but I’m telling you that you’re wrong.”
“Sure, I like him, but I know it’s never going to happen.” You sigh, twirling the cord as you stare at your bedspread, still laying on your stomach.
“What’s never going to happen?” You hear Dustin ask, making you jump and drop the phone.
“Dustin, get out of my room!”
“But it’s time to go! We’re going to be late if we don’t leave, y/n, and I don’t want to upset Eddie by being late.” He rambles, and all you can do is roll your eyes.
“Fine. Go get in the car. I’ll be right down.”
“Don’t forget that we’re picking up Mike and Lucas. And don’t forget your folder!”
“I won’t. Now go.” You groan, rolling back onto your stomach and grabbing the phone.
“I’m sorry, Laur. I’ve got to go.”
“Time to go see your man, huh?” She teases and you roll your eyes, attempting to fight back a blush.
“He’s not my man. Never will be. I’ll call you later, though, okay?”
“You better! Love you.”
With a ‘love you’ of your own you hang up the phone and roll off of your bed. Grabbing your backpack and a sweater, you slip your shoes on before grabbing your keys and leaving the room.
You really kind of hope tonight’s game goes by quickly, not wanting to be in Eddie’s presence longer than necessary.
~.~
Eddie can’t help but frown as he watches you tonight. He’s been noticing how you’ve been seeming more and more down, almost seeming to pull into yourself and away from the group this past month.
You’ve been quiet lately, which isn’t terribly out of character for you, but it seems different than normal. You don’t quite have that same brightness to you that Eddie’s come to look forward to each day.
“Henderson, is everything alright?”
At his voice you’re pulled from your thoughts, turning to look at the beautiful, curly-haired man that makes your heart race and palms sweat.
“Mhm. Fine.” You hum, nodding and sending a small smile in his direction.
“You’re sure?”
“Mhm.”
As you hum, you turn your attention back to your clasped hands on the table as you zone back out to Dustin and the rest of the group chattering around you.
“Little Henderson, is something up with your sister?” you hear Eddie question as he turns his attention to your brother.
“Unbelievable.” You huff, shaking your head and crossing your arms as you slump back in your chair.
“Excuse me?”
“Nothing. Never mind.” You mumble, staring at the table in front of you as you chew on the inside of your cheek.
All you did was zone out for a moment. You don’t understand why he’d have to ask Dustin what’s wrong when that’s all you did. It’s not like he’s ever actually taken notice of your emotions before to know that something is wrong.
“I think she’s upset about a guy.” Dustin speaks up after a moment and you can’t help but scowl at him, brows furrowed in shocked anger.
“A guy?” Eddie questions, almost seeming surprised.
“Yeah.”
“It’s not about a guy, Dustin. Maybe try keeping your head out of my business.” You retort, jaw tensing in anger.
“But you were saying something about liking someone and how it’s not going to happen.”
“And I told you to stop listening in on me when I’m on the phone.”
“Then what’s wrong?” Dustin questions, seeming like he genuinely wants to know which irritates you slightly. Why does he have to be so caring when you’re trying to be angry with him?
“Doesn’t matter.” you state, wanting the conversation to be over.
“Yes, it does.”
“If I wanted to tell you, Dustin, I would. Just leave it.”
“G-guys, can we…can we get playing again?” You hear Mike stutter out and you let out a deep breath.
“Yeah. Sorry for getting off topic. Let’s play.”
“Are you going to be alright to play?” Eddie questions, looking you over, seemingly studying your body language.
He’s never seen you upset before, and he can’t help but wonder what’s going on. It’s not like you to be angry and short with others. Not when he’s always seen you as the happy, upbeat one of the group.
Could it be a guy like Dustin suggested? Or is it just that you’re not feeling well? Either way he can’t help but want to know.
“I’ll be fine. Let’s just get this going again.” you answer, not bothering to look at anyone but rather as the table and your hands.
“Henderson-“ Eddie starts, but you quickly cut him off, taking him by surprise at the sheer frustration coming from you.
“Do you not want me playing right now? I said I’ll be fine. Believe me, will you?”
“Alright. Where were we?”
You let out a breath as you all slowly get back to the game, although you can feel the tenseness of the air still lingering. Attempting to ignore it, you force yourself to focus on what Eddie and everyone else is saying, hoping to god the campaign isn’t much longer.
~.~
Taking your seat at the lunch table, you feel Gareth and Jeff’s eyes on you. It’s like they’re not sure how to talk to you, almost afraid that you’re still as touchy as you were last night during the game.
“I’m not going to bite your heads off, you know.” You comment, not bothering to look up at them as you shove a forkful of food into your mouth.
“You’re sure?” Gareth questions, eyes wider than normal as he still seems cautious.
“Mhm. I just wasn’t feeling great last night.”
“Okay. You’ve just…never been like this.” He states and you know he’s not wrong. Ever since you first joined the club you’ve been quiet and almost demure, not wanting to create any issues.
You shrug, acknowledging his statement, but leave it unanswered. There’s not really anything to say to that. Not when the entire reason for your irritation is kind of embarrassing and childish.
The two of them don’t seem to mind though, going back to talking amongst themselves as you eat in silence, waiting for everyone else to join the table.
It’s not like anything really changes once everyone is there. They all chat amongst themselves while you keep to yourself, only giving short replies when talked to. You simply eat in silence as you let yourself fall into your thoughts, not wanting to make the atmosphere tense like you had last night.
No one seems to mind, though. At least you don’t think they do. Not until Eddie slides into the empty desk next to yours in your shared study hall at the end of the day.
“Hey, Henderson.” He greets, voice lowered so as to not get yelled at by the teacher or to potentially get on your bad side.
“Hey.”
“What’s…what’s going on lately?”
“What do y’mean?”
“You’ve been quieter than usual. Not as happy either.”
“Don’t know what you’re talking about Eddie.” You mumble, not wanting to share what’s been going on.
“No? See, I think you know exactly what I’m talking about. Something’s bothering you.”
“So what if there is? I’m not telling you unless I want to.”
At your reply, Eddie simply sighs, and you can’t help but feel a little rude. It’s not like he’s done anything, it’s just your stupid thoughts and feelings getting in the way.
“Alright then. I’m not going to push for an answer. I just...I need to know that whatever it is won’t be interfering with the campaign.”
“It won’t be. Not from here on out.”
“Here on out?”
“I’m quitting the club. Been thinking about it for a while now.” You admit, watching his face fall at your words.
“Henderson-“
“It’s y/n, Eddie.“
As the words leave your lips, the bell rings to signal that the day is finally over. Without hesitating a second, you’re up from your seat and walking away, leaving Eddie confused and scrambling to catch up to you.
“Y/n?” He calls, chasing you from the classroom and towards the doors, not caring that he needed to stop at his locker.
You see Dustin, Lucas, and Mike waiting by the trash can at the edge of the parking lot, and you sigh. You really can’t wait to get home.
“Y/n?! What’s brought this on? Why do you wanna leave the club?” Eddie calls as he continues to follow you towards the parking lot.
“You’re leaving hellfire?” Dustin questions, him and the other two boys having heard Eddie.
“Just get in the car, Dustin.”
“But you’re leaving hellfire?! You can’t just do that!”
“Exactly! Why’re you trying to leave?” Eddie questions, panting lightly as he finally catches up to you at your car.
“I’m not trying to leave, Eddie. I am leaving. I don’t want to be a part of it anymore. Sorry.”
“No. You can’t just leave. We haven’t finished the campaign yet.”
“You’ll figure out how to continue it without me, I’m sure.”
Of course he’d just be upset about the game getting messed up and not about you actually leaving. Why would he care when he’s still got Little Henderson there?
“I’ll return my shirt next week.” You state, moving to get into the car.
“Th-that’s not necessary. Hold onto the shirt. Keep it for memory’s sake, I mean.”
“If that’s what you want.”
Eddie nods, watching you, seeming as if he wants to say something else but he can’t bring himself to.
“Is that everything?” You question, wanting nothing more than to leave.
“Yeah...Yeah, I guess. I’ll see you around?”
“Yeah. See you around. Come on now, Dustin.”
“You two need rides?” You question Mike and Lucas, almost seeming to ignore Eddie as you get in the car. They shake their heads and you nod, closing your door as you wait for Dustin to do the same.
Soon as he does, you’re putting the car in reverse and backing out as you had already started it. You really didn’t want to be there any longer than you already had been.
As you pull out of the parking lot, though, you can feel Dustin wanting to ask questions, but he seems scared to anger you, so he stays quiet. His questions simply swirling around his head, instead.
~.~
“Wait, you did what now?!” Lauren questions, almost screaming into the receiver.
“I quit the club. I couldn’t keep pretending everything was fine when it wasn’t.”
“But you enjoyed it.”
“I enjoyed it when I hadn’t been shoved to the background. I enjoyed it when I actually felt like a part of the club.”
“So talk to them? You don’t just quit something because it stopped being fun.”
“I think that’s precisely what you do when a club stops being fun, Laur. Besides, it’s not like they miss me.” You huff, pulling your feet towards your body as you lay on your stomach, softly kicking them in the air.
It’s been just about a month since you quit the club, and while it saddens you a little, you’ve also felt the tiniest bit of relief. You don’t have to try so hard to keep your crush on Eddie hidden anymore. You don’t have to spend every lunch period listening to the guys talk about whatever it is they do while you sit to the side. You don’t have to feel like the outcast in the group of outcasts.
Sure you miss playing the game, but it’s not the end of the world. You’ve found other things to keep yourself preoccupied. Mostly just listening to music and doing your homework, but you’ve found yourself picking up art as a hobby as the days dragged on, slowly starting to fill and old sketchbook you’ve had lying around.
~.~
“It’s still so weird that y/n isn’t here.” Gareth comments as the boys watch you sit at a different table once again. They don’t know why, but they keep hoping this has just been some kind of nightmare and that any day you’ll actually sit back down with them. It just doesn’t make sense why you’d leave them all so abruptly.
“Yeah. It is.” Jeff agrees, sighing as they see a smile form on your face with a laugh falling out right after. It’s been way too long since any of them have seen you like this, and it kind of hurts.
“She still wears her shirt a lot.” Dustin informs, looking at the older boys - Eddie included - as they watch you.
“She does?” Eddie questions, the bit of knowledge somehow lifting him up a little.
He hated hearing you say you were quitting, and he hated it even more when Monday came around the week after and you didn’t sit with them. Nearly three years you had sat by his side and suddenly you weren’t there anymore. It felt beyond wrong, but he didn’t know what to do to fix it, if there even was anything that he could do.
“Yeah. She seems to wear it all the time now. I’m honestly not sure when the last time was that she didn’t wear it.”
Eddie nods, smiling lightly at the thought. He can’t help but wonder if there’s anything different he could have done to keep you from leaving. Was it something he had said? Or done? Was it just him?
“She’s been acting weird since she left. I heard her on the phone the other day-“
“You really should stop that, Dustin.” Eddie pipes up, but the younger boy doesn’t seem to hear.
“She said something about how she couldn’t keep pretending everything was fine after mentioning to her friend that she quit.”
“What?”
“Yeah, I don’t know. I’ve never known her to pretend about anything. I don’t know what she was talking about.”
“Because then she said something about enjoying the club when she felt like a part of it? She’s always been a part of it though.” Dustin continues, frowning as he eats his food.
He may not understand what you were talking about, but Eddie has a sinking feeling that he does. He really hopes he’s wrong though.
He doesn’t want to admit that he was giving your brother and his friends more attention than he’s ever really gave you. It’s not that they’re better than you in any way, honestly. It’s just that they’re boys.
He’s always hesitated in giving you attention during meetings or at lunch, because he didn’t want anyone to catch onto the crush he has on you. He was afraid that if Gareth or Jeff knew he liked you, that it’d make the atmosphere awkward.
Even by keeping you at a distance, though, the two guys picked up on Eddie’s crush. It’s not in his character to be quiet or reserved in the slightest, so when they noticed how he constrained himself in conversation with you, they knew something was up.
Still, Eddie could never allow himself to act the same way with you like he does with Gareth and Jeff, and now your brother and his friends. He wanted you to like him, so he kept himself from being sarcastic and outspoken with you. Hearing Dustin talk though, Eddie has the suspicion that his plan may have backfired.
“Your sister still picks you up from the meetings, doesn’t she?” Eddie questions, already planning out what he wants to say to you when he can get you aside for a moment.
“No. Nancy’s been dropping me off or I’ve just been riding my bike.”
“I’ll be driving you home tonight then.”
“O-okay?!”
Eddie chuckles lightly at Dustin’s excitement, but he never takes his eyes off of you across the cafeteria. He needs to talk to you, and he’s hoping that tonight he can do just that.
~.~
“You know it ain’t easy, running out of thrills. You know it ain’t easy when you don’t know what you want.”
You hum, laying on your bed as you listen to the drums, guitar, and vocals of Europe fill your room.
“What do you want?” You question, mirroring the song, your foot tapping against your bedspread as you close your eyes.
“Woah-oh-oh, you want to rock now, rock the night, ‘til early in the morning light. Rock now, rock the night.”
“Woah-oh, woah-oh, yeah!” You sing, smiling lightly.
It’s been awhile since you’ve been able to just relax and enjoy listening to your music without worrying about homework or being late to hellfire. One of the plus sides of quitting the club - you finally get time just for yourself.
Hearing a knock on your door, you hum loud enough to acknowledge whoever is at the door.
“y/n? You’ve got a visitor.” Dustin calls, gently opening your door.
“Who?” You question, sitting up on your bed, nodding as Eddie comes into view behind Dustin.
“Oh…hi.”
“Hi. I-is it alright if I come in?” He questions, pausing in your doorway.
“Yeah, I guess so.”
As he makes his way inside, you situate yourself in your bed so you’re comfortably sitting up.
“Do you…”
At Eddie’s voice, you look up to see him questioning you about your door, going to close it before swinging it open.
“You can close it if you want. I don’t care.”
He nods, softly shoving the door to close it, not quite giving it enough force to close all the way so there’s a little crack left open.
“So what’re you doing here?” You question him, watching him as he looks around, seeming a bit out of place with your soft white walls and contradicting decor.
While he may fit into the plethora of rock band posters covering your walls and the many records and cassettes you’ve got laying around, he doesn’t fit in with the florals and stuffed animals you’ve got elsewhere in your room.
“I, uh, I was hoping we could talk.”
“About what?”
You can’t help but chuckle as he spots the bralette hanging out of your dresser, you having been too lazy to tuck it back in earlier, and seems to pale in horror. For seeming so confident and cocky, he sure doesn’t look it being in a girl’s room.
“You can sit, you know.” You offer, motioning to the chair you’ve got in the corner of your room.
“Yeah, okay.” He mumbles, taking a few steps over towards the chair before sitting on the edge of the seat.
You watch as he takes in your room, fidgeting with his hands and rings as he does so. If you didn’t know better, you’d say he was nervous to be here.
“What did you want to talk about?”
“Uh, well, w-we really miss you being in the club. G-gareth, Jeff, and I. I mean, s-so do the younger ones, but…”
“But you three miss me more?” You question, eyebrow cocking in disbelief.
“Well, yeah…yeah.”
“Okay.” You deadpan, not sure what he wants in reply to that. It’s nice to hear that they miss you, but it doesn’t really change anything.
A brief moment passes where you watch Eddie, waiting for him to say something else. Taking in his mannerisms and body language, you can’t remember a time when Eddie’s ever looked so nervous and unsure of himself.
“D-dustin was saying you felt left out? Of the club?” Eddie clarifies, drawing up just enough courage to look at you.
“He was listening to me on the phone again, wasn’t he?”
“Y-yeah. I tried telling him to stop, but I don’t think he heard me.” he sighs, chuckling lightly in nerves as you shake your head.
“I don’t think he’ll ever stop, if I’m honest. He’ll be traumatized one day or another I’m sure.” You laugh, shaking your head at the thought as you smile.
“It’s true though? You…you felt left out?”
“Yeah. It’s dumb, I know, but you guys took so easily to Dustin, Lucas, and Mike.”
“I get it, they’re great kids, and they play D&D…but it’s like they didn’t even have to try to fit into the group.” You sigh, knowing it’s about time you share at least part of the problem.
“No. No, it’s not dumb. I’m sorry we made you - I made you - feel that way.” Eddie sighs, catching your line of sight in his, wanting you to realize how sincere he’s being.
He never wanted to make you feel left out, it’s just his stupid feelings that got in the way.
“It’s fine. It doesn’t matter anymore, anyways.”
“It does matter, though. We’d - I’d - really like you to join the group again. It’s not the same without you there, y/n.”
“I’m sorry. I just, I really don’t think joining again would be good, though.” You admit, knowing that if you joined again you’d still just be upset that nothing will ever come from your crush on him.
“How come? I-is there something else that’s been bothering you about the club? I want you to feel welcome.”
“No. No, It’s nothing about the club, Eddie. There’s just a lot of things going on personally that’d make it hard.”
“That guy issue?”
“What?”
“Is it anything to do with that guy issue Dustin mentioned?” Eddie questions, and you can’t help but gawk at him.
“Does he not like you playing or something?”
“What? No.” you answer, shaking your head incredulously, wondering how Eddie got it into his head that you’d ever be wanted by someone. Has he never actually watched how other guys interact with you?
“Then what is it? Why won’t you come back to the club?”
“It doesn’t matter. I just...can’t. It’s better if I let you guys enjoy it yourselves.”
“It’s not better, though. We all want you back, y/n.”
“I’m sorry.” You sigh, not knowing what else you can say.
A moment passes where neither of you say anything and you start to think that maybe you’re done talking. Before you can say anything of the sort though, Eddie’s asking a question.
“Tell me, is there anything I can do? Anything that would make you want to come back?”
“No…no, there’s nothing you could do, eddie, I promise y-“
“There must be.” He argues, wanting nothing more than to find something he can do to get you to come back.
He misses you more than he thought possible, and he just needs there to be something - anything - he can do.
“There’s not, though.”
“How come?”
“What?”
“How come there’s nothing I can do? Are you just that dead set on not coming back? Even though we all miss you?”
“If I could, trust me that I would join the group again. I just, I can’t right now, Eddie. I’m sor-“
“Why can’t you?”
“Because…because of you.” You sigh, fed up with him pushing for an answer.
“Me?”
“You, Eddie. I can’t come back because of you. Because if I did then I’d just get all upset again because my heart is dumb and doesn’t know how to listen.”
“What do you mean?”
You sigh, taking a deep breath as you look at him. You can’t seriously be getting ready to tell him this, but you are. You don’t see any other option right now.
“I like you, Eddie.” You sigh, fidgeting with your fingers.
“I like you, but you don’t like me. I mean, it’s obvious between you never talking to me or looking at me and how you’ve always called me Hender-“
You gasp, moaning lightly as you get cut off by a pair of lips on yours. Eddie was kissing you to shut you up.
At the realization you can’t help but panic, not understanding why he’d do this when he doesn’t like you.
“Eddie!”
“Fuck! I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I just, you were rambling and saying I didn’t like you but I do! I do. I like y-“
It’s his turn to gasp and groan into the kiss as you pull him to your lips, one hand tightly grasped in the front of his shirt while the other drapes around his shoulders, holding him close to you.
As he realizes what’s happening, he relaxes into the kiss, his one hand coming up to caress your cheek as the other holds himself up on the bed.
It’s not until you’re both out of breath and gasping for air do you actually pull away from each other, your hand relaxing against his chest as he lowers his from your cheek.
“Woah.” He sighs, trying to catch his breath as he chuckles lightly, studying your face.
“Yeah.” You murmur, ghosting your fingers over your lips as if trying to remember if that actually just happened.
“Uhm, so I like you. If-if that wasn’t obvious.” He stutters and you chuckle, smiling at the curly-haired dork.
“I like you too.”
“I’m sorry I pushed you away. Made you feel left out when I was just too nervous to admit I liked you.”
“I’m sorry I got all moody and quit the club because I was jealous of my brother instead of just telling you how I felt.”
“So…does this mean you’ll come back?” He asks, hopeful, as he kneels in front of you.
“You’ll stop treating me differently?”
“Mhm. Trust me when I say there’ll be no pushing you away after that.”
“Mm. Don’t be treating me specially either just because we kissed.” you lightly chuckle, cocking a brow as you chew on your lip to hold back the smile wanting to light up your face.
“Can I treat you differently if I ask you to be my girlfriend?” he questions, a wide, goofy smile filling his face as he looks at you.
A smile grows on your face at his sheer happiness, drawing a light chuckle from you as you reply to his question.
“Not during game play. We don’t wanna be unfair to the guys, do we?”
“Mm, you’re right. If I promise to not treat you specially during gameplay then will you be my girlfriend?” he asks, really wanting to hear you say yes. He’s only liked you for nearly three years, frequently imagining you as his girlfriend the entire time.
“I would really love for you to be my girlfriend, and I your boyfriend. It just. It sounds really nice.”
“You ramble a lot. You know that?” You giggle, tucking some hair behind his ear as a blush dusts over his cheeks.
“Is that a good thing?”
“Sometimes.” You smile, biting your lip to keep from kissing him again.
“So…?”
“If you promise not to treat me specially during the game, then I’d love to be your girlfriend, Eddie.”
“Yeah?” He questions, as if he doesn’t believe that you’d agree.
“Yeah.”
With the word out of your mouth, his lips find yours again, pulling a chuckle from your body as he slowly lowers himself on top of you, pinning you against your mattress as he kisses you, one hand cupping your cheek as the other rests on your waist.
“Did you-ew!” You hear Dustin call from your doorway, fake gagging as he sees Eddie on top of you, effectively startling the man back into kneeling at the end of your bed.
“Did we what, dustin?” You ask, leaning around Eddie’s body to look at your brother still standing at your doorway, one hand plastered over his eyes.
“I wanted to see if you two had figured things out, but it seems like you did.”
“Yeah, we did, little henderson. Your sister is coming back to the club.” Eddie shares, smiling at you as he situates himself on the bed beside you, Dustin uncovering his eyes in excitement at the exact same time.
“Can you please get off of my sister?” he begs, shielding his eyes again as eddie places a soft kiss to your lips in his own happiness of you coming back to the club.
“But I like being close to my girlfriend.”
“Girlfriend?! You’re dating my sister?!” Dustin exclaims, a look of pure shock and disgust on his face.
“Is there a problem with it, Dustin?” You question, watching your brother almost seeming to pout.
“I guess not. Just…don’t be gross when I’m around. Please?”
“We’ll try not to be.” Eddie states, smiling at you as Dustin nods, giving a small okay before leaving the two of you alone.
As the door closes, Eddie’s looking back at you, both of you chuckling.
“Guess you were right in saying he’d be traumatized one day.” He chuckles, leaning down to give you another kiss, never realizing just how amazing it’d feel to have your lips on his.
You can’t help but smile into it, enjoying the feel of his body on yours. You’ve only been imaging this moment for nearly four years. You’ve got to say that nothing you imagined could ever live up to the reality, though. Kissing Eddie is like a little slice of heaven, you swear.
It certainly took you long enough to get here, but now that you’re here, you don’t ever want to go back.

Eddie slams his pile of books down on the counter, grinning at how hard Steve startles.
"Jesus, fuck," Steve holds a hand to his chest, glaring. "Man, come on, I'm too young to die of a heart attack."
"Are you sure about that?" Eddie reaches over, to tug at his hair- Steve bats his hand away before he can get near. "What are you now, seventy?"
"I'll have you know that the silver only adds to my charm."
"Sure, keep telling yourself that." He pats the pile of books. "I need to check all of these out."
"You know the limit."
"Please? Pretty please? I'll never insult you for going grey early ever again! Promise!"
"You've made that promise before," Steve grumbles, but starts to check the books out anyway. "What's all of this for anyway? New campaign or something?"
"Nah. Robin mentioned something about the cold war and nuclear shit. Got me curious."
Steve pointedly looks at the books, snorting. "Curious."
"What, you've never wanted to learn some new thing or something?"
"Not this much."
"What about all those sports you played?"
"That was more to do with my parents than me actually wanting to do it."
Eddies eyes narrow because... yeah. Outside of his old King Steve days, Eddie doesn't think Steve has ever wanted something. Not even for his birthday, or Christmas.
All he asks is for them to come to his and Robins flat. All he seems to want is confirmation that they're ok and alive.
"You always say you want kids though, right?"
"I mean, kind of. Though, I'm starting to think the brats we babysat might be more than enough for me."
"Chocolate?"
"Oh no..."
"What?"
"You're planning something, aren't you?"
"No! No, no, no... but there has to be something, right?"
"Something?"
"That you really want."
"There's nothing I need."
"That's not what I'm asking."
"That's all the answer you're getting." Steve shoves the pile of books towards him. "Get lost, I'm supposed to be working."
"Ugh, fine, you're no fun."
But he can't stop thinking about it. He ends up returning the pile of books, despite the fact that he barely read one page. When he tries to use it to question Steve, he dodges the question again.
He very quickly gives up, deciding to pester Robin until she tells him. That takes three weeks of constant, daily efforts. And, in the end, the answer is obvious.
Steve just wants to spend more time with people he cares about.
It's not easy to gather anyone in the party, given that there's no holiday or significant occasion- he manages it, though. All the kids, now young adults, organize transportation. Nancy and Jonathan, over the phone, help Eddie and Robin plan out where everyone will sleep with their small apartments.
The effort, and pain of organizing it all, is worth it for the look on Steves face when he comes home to find them all waiting for him.
When Dustin almost knocks him over with how harm he hugs him, for a second, Eddie is worried that he's going to start crying. But he holds it together, greets them all with so much enthusiasm...
"I forgot that he used to be like this," Robin comments, late into the night. They're sat a little away from the group, watching them argue over their games. "The kids mean a lot to him."
"He means a lot to them."
"I know. I think he forgets though, so... thank you."
Steve doesn't corner him until they've got the kids asleep- half of them going with Nancy, Jonathan and Argyle to Eddies appartment, the rest of them fighting over the little space in Steve and Robins.
"You could've got me chocolate," Steve says, nudging him.
"This is what you really wanted though, isn't it? That was the whole point, big boy."
"Right. Sorry, it... I wanted to say thank you. I know this must have taken a lot to organize and-"
"Steve. You don't need to thank me. Besides, I could never have done this on my own."
"Still... thank you." Steve is quiet for a moment, looking out to the busy city street. "What do you want?"
"This."
"No, what do you really want?"
"Yeah, this. Everyones together, having so much fun. We're gonna do a one-shot when you go to work tomorrow. And, uh... you're happy. I don't need anything more than that."
"Right," Steve clears his throat. He shuffles a little closer, so their sides are almost flush together, tentatively reaching out to hold Eddies hand. "You don't need anything else. What about what you want?"
"You know what I want."
"I want you to say it."
Steve leans over, bumping their shoulders together when he hesitates. He smiles, reassuring, and gives Eddies hand a squeeze.
"What do you want, Eddie?"
"You. I- I want you."
It's terrifying to admit, a horrifying leap... but the smile Steve gives him, so soft and happy, is more than worth it.
"As you wish."

Steddie grammys au part 2
Part 1
------
Steve is texting Eddie Munson via the private message function on instagram. Because that's just the kinda shit that happens to him now. One day he's at the Grammys doing his job and the next, the lead guitarist/lyricist of a famous rock band is following his instagram account (Dustin and Robin had lost their collective minds) which is full of dorky pictures of him with a group of high schoolers, his cat and Robin. And that one picture of Robin and him at pride, posing with a lesbian and pansexual pride flag respectively.
His follower count has also gone up by couple extra thousands and there are a couple DMs from people he's never heard of, saying some unsavoury things about him. It's all very intense and dramatic. Needless to say, his account is private now.
The thing is, Steve has been flirted with during interviews before, he's a good looking guy and he knows it. It's just never happened with an international rockstar before—then immediately went viral for the entire world to see.
Didn't peg you as a cat person Stevie
Then there is the other thing. Eddie Munson flirting with him in his DMs. Which kinda sorta makes him forget how to be a person. Steve Harrington is nothing if not a people person, always knows the right thing to say. But with Eddie he barely just manages, no sign of the alleged lover boy he had been in his high school years. Eighteen year old Steve would cry if he could see the bland ass conversation he's having about his cat of all things.
I'm not
He just barged into my house one day and refused to leave
Eddie is hot, and rich and famous. Did he mention hot, because he is. Painfully so. Steve will never forget his all black ensemble at the Grammys where he had been standing a foot away from Steve in his bejewelled suit jacket with nothing underneath it.
Point is, Eddie is intimidating. He seems so far away with his rockstar status and the hoards of fans worshipping him like he's their god. What could Eddie Munson possibly want from Steve Harrington?
Would you like to get dinner sometime?
Eddie's latest text is staring up at him like its going to jump out of his phone and attack him. Its too late to ditch and run, Eddie knows Steve has seen it so he needs to come up with a response. Soon. So Steve does the only reasonable thing and barges into Robin's room at ass o'clock in the morning.
"Say yes Dingus!" Robin says, after kicking him in the shin for waking her up.
"But—" she silences him with another well placed kick.
"Listen, no one who just wants to bang you asks you about the shitty retail job you had in high school, Steven. Even if he only wants to sleep with you, you're gonna get a fun night out of it and like bragging rights or something," He supposes she’s right. Eddie did seem very interested in Steve’s personal life. He really did hope it is a date though. If only he has the balls to actually ask him.
"I'd be so jealous of you right now if I liked men, so get out of your head and go have some fun. Now get the fuck out and let me sleep,"
------
Eddie picks an upscale rooftop bar with private seating and a breathtaking view. He's there sitting at the booth half an hour before their scheduled meet up time out of nerves.
Eddie sometimes hates that his public image takes precedence when people meet him. The truth is that he is a little bit of a loner. Never got the point of physical intimacy without a connection no matter how much people tend to think he's the type of person to have a different person warming his bed each night.
It makes dating so hard when the perception of Eddie the rockstar doesn't line up with who Eddie the person really is. Eddie rarely even takes the first step anymore. It took the combined ragging of his entire band for him to even gather the courage to message Steve.
"Hey," a voice greets him from behind.
Steve is here. And Steve is an enigma. An ex high school jock who used to babysit a bunch of middle schoolers. He's so full of delicious contradictions and dry humor and it's impossible not to like him the more he learns about him.
But there’s still the question of what Steve expects of him that Eddie dreads a little. Above all, Eddie just wants Steve to like Eddie the person so badly.
------
“A fire extinguisher,” Eddie’s eyebrows are somewhere up in his bangs.
“Yep,”
“Against an armed robber,”
“I swear I had grey hairs at seventeen because of those kids,” Steve knows how sappy and fond his voice sounds when he talks about the kids. It’s never been something he could help.
The night’s been going a lot better that Steve had expected. Eddie is funny, and dramatic and it’s hard not to feel giddy from the attention he utterly devotes to Steve. They have a nice dinner, and exchange stores over drinks and it’s feels like a real date. Steve can practically hear Robin in his head telling him to stop being such a dingus and overthinking everything.
They go quite for a second, Eddie suspiciously focused on his drink when Steve feels his boot nudge against his shoe. Steve nudges back and soon instigates a game of footsie neither of them acknowledge above the table. It ends with Eddie’s foot trapped between Steve’s ankles and a faint rise of colour in his cheeks as he takes a comically large gulp from his drink. It’s just adorable.
"Can I kiss you?" The words are out of Steve’s mouth before he even realises it. Before he could beat himself up about it, Eddie turns a slightly worrying shade of crimson but he's nodding and thats all Steve needs before he is leaning over the table.
It's nice, it's really fucking sweet and not at all how he had expected Eddie to kiss, but Steve is quickly learning that nothing about Eddie is what it seems like. The kiss is all soft presses of their lips, wet, languid slides of tongue at the seams of his mouth. Steve feels a little dizzy when he pulls away and drops back into his seat, happy grins mirrored in both their faces.
———
Its a couple months after that when Eddie starts trending again. He posts a picture taken by Gareth, post show as he lays on top of Steve on the couch. Steve has his arms around him, lips pressed to his gross, sweaty hair.
Caption says: Happy birthday to my sweetheart <3

can I request something for our sweet boy Eddie? reader is cautious of eddies smoking / drinking bc she's had experiences associated to them and they're not the best. my uncle does it a lot and it can affect happy family gatherings and more in the past that I can't remember, but everyone older then me seems to and makes me be careful because of whatever happened. and I see many fics glorifying those habits. you can do whatever plot you think fits best. 💚

Eddie Munson was an enigma. Which is, undoubtedly, one of the many things you liked about him. He wasn’t afraid to be different, wasn’t afraid to speak his mind or his truth. He was also, you know, very pretty, which didn't hurt anything. You liked his long hair, the wavy roguish strands, his big brown eyes, and that smile that made your heart melt. He was, in essence, a man you'd harbored a crush on for a long time.
But you'd never do anything about it. Absolutely not. For all his virtues and good qualities, there were certain vices that had you keeping your distance from him. Besides the fact that you were painfully shy, and pretty much invisible except to your small friend group. While you knew so much about Eddie Munson, you were positive he didn't even know your name.
You found out, one chilly fall morning, that you were dead wrong.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
You should have known it was going to be a horrible, no good, very bad day as soon as you were getting ready for school and nothing seemed to go right. Your favorite dress had a rip, your makeup came out all wrong, you'd forgotten to make lunch, and almost missed the school bus. If the driver hadn't been feeling generous, you were sure you would have ended up walking to school, but your pathetic running and yelling as he pulled away had him garnering sympathy for you.
But eventually you'd made it to school, feeling like an utter clown but at least you were on time. You managed a quick stop at your locker, grabbing out your binders and books for your morning classes, almost running to make it to first period on time.
And you would have…had you not shut your locker and managed to immediately run into him. Him being, as fate would have it, none other than Eddie Munson. Your collision managed to knock the papers and books from both of your hands and you groaned deeply. Eddie's natural reaction had been to recoil, sure you were going to flip out at him, but instead you gave him an almost pathetically sorry look.
"I am so sorry, Eddie," you picked everything off the dirty, sticky floor and organized it before handing everything back to him in a neat stack. It was more put together than before your little accident and he felt warmth rise up in his cheeks, "I'm such an…idiot. And now I've made us both late. Sorry again."
You scooped your things up and stuffed them into your backpack before standing back up. Eddie's hand gently grabbed your arm to keep you from moving away just yet. He whispered your name before softly asking, "are you alright?"
"I'm just having an off morning 's all," you were surprised he even knew your name. You'd always felt so invisible around not just him, but most of your classmates, "I should get going to class before old man Johnson makes things even worse."
"Okay," he gave you a small, tentative little smile, "see you around."
All you managed to do was to give him a hesitant little nod before tearing down the hallway and leaving him watching you in amusement.
You knew his name. Holy fuck. He wouldn't have thought you'd known who he was. And you'd been so kind and sweet, despite your literal run in having been half his fault. He never thought you'd so much as give him the time of day. But you had. And that was something he didn't plan on forgetting anytime soon.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
When lunch time came around, you were starving. Your plan was to buy lunch since you had neglected to make it, but once you'd gotten your tray of food - if it could even really be called that - and were ready to pay, you realized you didn't have any money on. Fantastic.
You looked around as if something was just going to magically solve your problem. But somehow…it did. Eddie Munson was at your side and holding out money to the annoyed looking lunch lady. Too stunned to speak, you trailed after him as he walked away. He caught sight of your big, wide doe eyes and chuckled lightly, "everything alright?"
"You didn't have to do that," you stammered nervously, feeling warm under his scrutinizing gaze, "to pay for my lunch. I could have left it."
"I wanted to," he insisted softly, "besides, you said you've been having a rough day and I figured you could use something nice today."
"That's so kind of you," you worried your bottom lip between your teeth, "thank you, Eddie."
"See you around angel," he shot you a wink before almost skipping over to his table where his friends had been watching everything eagerly. You smiled down at your tray before making your way to your own table.
Your best friend had seen everything, and her face was pulled into a huge smile, "I didn't realize you had a crush on Eddie Munson."
"I don't!" It was a weak lie that wasn't fooling anyone.
"Of course you don't," she playfully teased, "you act like a lovesick puppy around everyone."
"Oh my god!"
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Over the next couple of weeks, it seemed like you ran into him with increasing frequency. It seemed like whenever there was an opportunity for him to be here, he would pop up. Like saying good morning, when he appeared at your locker when you knew his wasn’t anywhere near yours. You knew something was up, but you weren’t going to push the envelope. You liked Eddie, you really did, but you were hung up on some of his lifestyle choices. He wasn’t a bad person, you knew that, but you just couldn’t bring yourself to look past that. It was on you, not him, which made you feel somehow even worse.
Whatever was going on between the two of you would have to be it. You’d have to live with the fact that while you pined after him, Eddie Munson was never going to be yours. Even though you’d never admit it, that made your heart break.
“Heya,” his cheerful voice snapped out of your internal struggle - about him naturally - and you almost jumped out of your seat. He laughed softly before giving your shoulder a gentle squeeze and sitting next to you on the picnic table bench. He didn’t even know that you knew about this spot, but he was happy to have found you. Okay…made he’d casually followed. But that made him sound like a creep, which he totally wasn’t aiming to be, “don’t mean to scare you. Sorry!”
“‘s okay,” you promised through a small smile as you clutched at your rapidly beating heart. It wasn’t the shock so much as the nerves that made it race, “what’s up, Eds?”
The little nickname made his heart soar as his big brown eyes watched you in excitement. He drummed his fingers along the aging wood of the table, attempting to search for the right words. Eddie’s own heart was beating so quickly that he was surprised you couldn’t hear it and that it didn’t burst out of his chest, “listen - I was wondering if you’d…if you’d like to hang out sometime.”
“Hang out?” you parroted, attempting vainly to hide your shock. He nodded slightly, a pretty pastel pink flush rising up in his cheeks, “you want to hang out with me?”
“Yeah,” he breathed out nervously, running a hand through his messy waves, “like…a date. Maybe we could go to the movies and grab dinner?”
“Oh,” the soft expression on your face made his knees weak and he was glad that he was sitting. You paused for a moment before looking at the ground and studying your scuffed up converse and his boots, “umm, it’s really sweet of you to ask, Eddie. I never thought…you’re really nice and funny and I think you’re a wonderful person. Really.”
“But you don’t want to go out with me,” he finished for you, and your head snapped to look at him. He kept his face pointedly neutral as you remained silent, “and I’ve just ruined any chance we even had of being friends. I’m sorry - I just thought…maybe you liked me too.”
“Eddie…fuck, I do,” you confessed and his face turned to confusion, “really. But I think we’re very different people and it wouldn’t work out.”
“Why?” he kept like a child, looking at you with a small pout on his pretty face, “we could try.”
“I…listen, please don’t take this the wrong way, because like I said I really do like you and I do think you’re amazing,” you promised, “but I don’t…the alcohol and the drugs. It’s not…I don’t like either of them. I-I’ve had some bad experiences with them with people in my life and it’s something I’m not entirely comfortable with. But with that - I don’t care that it’s your thing, you know? I don’t think you’re a bad, or wicked person because you like those things. It’s just…not for me. And it wouldn’t be fair of me to ask you to never drink or smoke or whatever, ya know? So…maybe we can be friends though?”
Eddie stunned into silence, a feat that few people can claim to have accomplished, as you looked at him nervously. One of the first things he appreciated, and he wished more people were like this, was the upfront honesty. You’d chosen not to beat around the bush, which was probably the easier option. He nodded after a few moments of silence filled with only nervous heartbeats and anxious breaths, “yeah, we can be friends. I…I appreciate you being honest, though. Most people would have probably made up some lame excuse and just blown me off.”
“I wouldn’t do that to you,” you put your hand on his forearm and gave it a gentle squeeze, “you’re really nice and funny, and I like being around you. Hey - I’ve got something to ask you.”
“Shoot.”
“Is there any more room in Hellfire for another member?” The way his whole face lit up in excitement was a thing of beauty and you can’t help but marvel at him. His smile was beautiful, toothy and all dimples and lovely. He nodded eagerly, his roguish hair bouncing around, “I-I still have a lot to learn, but I’d really like to join. If that’s okay with you.”
“Absolutely,” he didn’t hesitate, his voice almost shaking with excitement, “yes. I can help teach you!”
“That sounds wonderful, Eddie. I’m really excited!”
“Me too, angel, me too.”
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The next couple of months were spent getting to know Eddie, the rest of the Hellfire club, and Dungeons and Dragons. You were pretty sure you’d never had this much fun before. The only issue - and nonissue at the same time - was your ever growing feelings for Eddie. It was hard not to fall for him; he was kind, funny, smart, and handsome on top of it all. You were pretty sure that you were not the only feeling that way either; you knew Eddie could feel it as well, but he never did anything to overstep any boundaries or make you uncomfortable. He was way too good for that.
But as was the natural order of things, it all had to come to a head at some point.
“Hey,” his hand was on top of yours, stopping you from grabbing anything further off the table in your effort to clean up after another Hellfire session. You felt your skin tingling from his touch, his fingertips rough and calloused but still so soft. You turned around to face him and saw the confused look on his face.
“Eds?” your voice was soft and he was almost positive it would be the death of him, “what’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong,” he almost choked out as you looked at him, “I was just…listen. I really like you, and I thought I was okay with being just friends, but I don’t think I could ever be just friends with you. Every day you do something that makes me…fall for you a little more. And I remember what you said and I think I…I have kind of a solution?”
“A solution?” you repeated, your eyes sparkling with amusement, “Eddie, I don’t want you to have to change anything or do anything different just because of me.”
“Well, when you really like someone, you’re willing to do things differently,” he shrugged as if it was no big deal, “I was thinking…if you’re willing that is, that maybe we could try, you know, going out. And in turn, I promise, I won’t drink or smoke around you. I mean like before or after, whatever. None of that around you at all.”
“Eddie…” the corners of your mouth were pulling up into a small smile as he returned your shy expression, “I…you’ve really thought about this, haven’t you?”
“I really like you, angel,” and oh. Those words were enough to make you weak, “and besides, I could probably use a break from that shit too.”
“I don’t want you to have to change who you are,” you repeated and he nodded in acknowledgment, “I…how about this? How about you can still do all that stuff, but just don’t expect me to?”
“I would never,” he insisted, his body humming in excitement, “but still - I won’t do it around you, and won’t expect you to. But does…that mean you’ll let me take you?”
“Yes,” you couldn’t stop yourself from leaning in and pressing a kiss to his cheek. His eyes widened in surprise, “I’d really like that, Eddie.”
“Really?” he still seemed surprised at the fact that not only did you actually like him, but you actually wanted to go out with him. You nodded and his smile stretched from ear to ear, “c-can I kiss you?”
“Yes, please.”

He is a fucking alpha who has been staring at the omega’s supplies for at least half an hour. “I… I’m just looking.” He says, trying to hide his nervousness, but he knows that he reeks of anxiety like a lost puppy. He grabs a fluffy pink blanket, ready to leave the shop, but when he caresses it he finds that it’s really soft and really nice, he wonders if starting with a blanket is too much. There are a lot of pillows from every dimension, some of them have feathers, others sparkle, but the one that catches his attention is a small velvety one. He takes it, holds it in his hands, looks for any imperfection, and finds none, so he takes it to the counter and the clerk smiles at him “Do you want me to wrap it for you?” Jason freezes “Why should I…” “Oh, I thought it was a courting gift. My bad.” The woman, a beta, replies, putting the pillow in a bag. “It’s for my sister.” Jason states while paying and the woman nods but it’s clear that she doesn’t believe a single word Jason is saying, so he takes his bag and goes back home, once there he runs to his room to hide the purchase he made in the back of his wardrobe, so deep that he will forget about it and will not make a fool out of himself. The next day he drives to school, resolved to forget about the pillow he bought and put it in the trash as soon as he came back, but when he sees the omega of his dreams he can’t hide the scent of arousal that comes from him: Steve the Hair Harrington, the only male omega of the school, walks just a few steps away from him, surrounded by his numerous admirers and his bodyguards, and Jason can’t help but stare at him until the group disappears in the corridor. “So, did you go?” A blond omega asks him, and Jason startles. “Hey, Chrissy. Hi.” “Tell me, did you go to the shop I told you about?” Jason nods, blushing “It was really… omegan.” “I know! It’s the best, isn’t it? Their products are all top quality!” she winks at him, “So, what did you get? A set of bed sheets for your first shared heat?” “Stop it!” Jason complains, putting a hand on her mouth to make her shut up, but the girl keeps giggling. “I know you bought something. Just tell me what!” she demands, still laughing. “I… I bought a pillow, ok? Nothing too fancy. Just… I’m going to throw it away as soon as I get home. This is a mistake. I could never… I have no possibility.” “Why no?” Chrissy asks while they walk toward their first class. There are so many reasons that Jason doesn’t even know where to start. First of all Steve Harrington, the omega he is wanting to court, is the King of the school and everyone who doesn’t dream to be him certainly would like to fuck him! Not only he is older than Jason and even taller, but he is surrounded by alphas and Jason can’t compete with Hargrove or Munson. Hagan maybe, but the other two are almost Steve’s bodyguards: wherever Steve goes they go, ready to growl at any alpha that gets too close to him. The only moment Steve is alone is in the lockers before or after PE, but Munson is outside of the door making sure no one gets too close to the king, and that is exactly where he is when Chrissy and Jason turn the corner.

you're mine and we belong together | chapter one | steve harrington x reader
Tumblr media
this story is mine. i originally posted on my AO3.
will have stranger things season 4 spoilers from volume 1! SUMMARY:
Y/N is a new Senior student at Hawkins High School. She finds herself friends with Max, Dustin, and Eddie. A new start means a new job - in which Y/N takes Robin's position at Family Video since Robin is getting promoted to manager. This leads to Dustin introducing Y/N to Steve. They get off to a rocky start but find themselves growing closer and closer. The Byers have moved back.
Eddie failed his senior year again but that's okay. We get to experience the icon he is.
Also, I don't know much about Dungeons and Dragons, so just know that I'm trying my hardest to write it correctly. I've even rewatched episodes and looked at parts of the rulebook.
Y/N is from {CITY, STATE} and never expected to be in Hawkins, Indiana, but here she is. Y/N has H/C hair and E/C eyes, can't forget to mention her unique style.
Y/N = your name H/C = hair color E/C = eye color
POV alters throughout the story but usually starts off in third-person and proceeds to first-person.
-----------------------
"I want to introduce a new face to the Hellfire Club..."
The room is dimly-lit, joined by the other group members. The curly-haired leader, Eddie, raises a brow at you. A smirk appears on his face as he extends his arms widely in an inviting gesture.
"Hi, I'm Dustin!" The other curly-haired boy interrupts, before gesturing for his friends to introduce themselves.
"I'm Mike, this is Will, and this is Erica." He speaks in a fast tone, seemingly wanting to get the introductions done and over with.
Eddie flashes a gaze at you, gesturing for you to introduce yourself. "I'm Y/N, I'm from {CITY, STATE} and I just moved to Hawkins with my family..."
"How long have you been playing Dungeon and Dragons?" Mike questions, seeming to test your knowledge.
"A few years, maybe five or six?"
"Favorite class?"
"Hard to choose but usually Cleric or Druid."
The guys seem impressed but you know they're not done. Trust me, this isn't your first club.
"Favorite villain to go against?" This time Will asks a question. You're a bit surprised because he seems anti-social but you can relate.
"Vecna and Orcus. They're challenging but tease in the perfect way."
Erica smiles at you, looking at Eddie, "You got another awesome girl in your hands."
"Hell yes," You reply, both you and Erica give each other fist-bumps.
Eddie clicks his tongue against his teeth, flashing you both a look. You stand back, crossing your arms across your chest. "Yes?"
"What's your class and level?"
You amusingly scoff, combing your fingers through your hair. "Half-Elf. Cleric. Level 13. I am Madame Castle. I may strike with a poison-soaked dagger or may strike with my almighty spells."
"Alrighty, thus moves forward into reign."
It begins. Mike and Will move in. Erica prepares to strike any monsters. You approach the board, blatantly staring at the leader. You countdown. Five. Four. Three. Two. One.
"The Cleric arrives on the field. A new face to our quest. Hooded members of our village chant welcoming chords." Eddie narrates, beginning to harmonize, in a way.
THE POV CHANGES
The lit candles around us seem to flicker, almost as if the game was real. Almost as if the game was coming to life. "Servants of Orcus arrive. They're loyal to their Lord and will strike. Madame Castle, will you strike first?"
I take the D20 dice, clasping it into my hand, rolling it around before letting it fall across the board. We watch it turn a few times before landing on 14.
"I strike using an exclusive spell within my sources. I use a mace in the other hand, striking once before chanting my magic on this monster." I narrate back, making my move and marking my territory.
"One down. Four to go." Eddie declares, seemingly teasing me. Every leader enjoys teasing a new member but I'm not a newcomer. I bite back - making my objective known.
"The spell isn't of the multiple one, it can kill as many as a ton," I reply, pointing to my dictum card. "It's always a part of my equipment."
"Nice one!" Mike calls out, patting me on the back a few times.
"The remaining two servants charge forward. They see their foes dead on the ground. They prepare to shake this town. They chant, 'All Hail, Our Lord Orcus, For He Will Provide Us Strength!' over and over." Eddie reads dramatically, moving two of the characters forward on the board. He begins to repeat the chant.
"All Hail, Our Lord Orcus, For He Will Provide us Strength! All Hail, Our Lord Orcus, For He Will Provide us Strength! It's time to make a move before they unleash their wrath upon you."
I look at Mike, Will, and Erica. We gather together for a moment, strategizing our next attack.
Before we can make our move, the bell rings, meaning it's time to go home. Did it go by that fast? Eddie laughs, knocking over the pieces, "Lord Orcus' servants devour you all into a deep slumber."
"Oh, fuck you, Eddie." I jokingly shout, laughing at him. He seems surprised but nevertheless laughs back. "Shit, I promised my parents that I would look for a job today. Does anyone know if any place is hiring?"
Dustin raises his hand, "The Family Video store! Our friend works there. They aren't closing for like, another hour, so we can head over there."
"Let's get going because I have a curfew."
"You're 18, right?"
"Well, yeah, but that doesn't change strict parents."
Dustin agrees with me, nodding in a sense of understanding. "Yeah, I get that. We get interrogated by our parents often..."
"Are you serious?" I laugh out as I put my backpack on, pulling my hair into a ponytail. They all nod -- except for Eddie. Then again, he's 20-years-old. Not going to question that.
"I have no clue where it's at so Eddie, you're driving!" I finish off, turning around to look at him. "You got a car or do you wanna drive mine?"
"I-I got a car... Don't even question that."
"Sorry but you never know, trust me. A lot of people at my old school didn't have cars. They usually did carpool or some shit like that."
--------------------------------
We arrive at the store, right on time. Dustin is the first to get out, ushering us over to the store. "Come on, slowpokes. Come on!"
I get out of the car, following Dustin, "I'm coming, hold up dude."
Dustin opens the door for me, the bell ringing, signaling the attention of the staff member. This must be Dustin's friend? He looks like he's in his twenties. I give Dustin a stare, "Is this...?"
"Yeah, yeah! He used to date Mike's sister and he's so cool. Practically a babysitter but..."
"I'm not the goddamn babysitter, Dustin, we've talked about this." The guy intrudes in, arguing with Dustin.
"Steve, this isn't the time..."
"You're the one coming in here and telling this chick that I'm your babysitter. That's not appealing whatsoever."
"Not true, some women love men who care for kids."
"Whatever, Henderson! Anyways, are you new around here?" Steve turns to me and we make eye contact. I nod softly.
"Yeah, I just move here from {STATE} but um..." I start, nervously biting the inside of my cheek. "Dustin was telling me that you have a job opening here?"
"Yeah, yeah. It's all yours!"
I knit my brows together, "What if I'm a serial killer?"
"Are you a serial killer?"
"No but..."
"Then you're hired! Trust me, I need all the help I can get. We can do a more thorough interview tomorrow. I'm beat but welcome to Family Video. Hourly pay is $7. We can work out your schedule. Just come here after three tomorrow, sound good?"
He runs his fingers through his hair. I smile a bit, "Yeah, sounds good. Nice to meet you, Steve!"
"Wait... What's your name?" He drops the tapes that are in his arms. I bend over and help him with them, looking him directly in the eyes.
"I'm Y/N."
We stay like that for a few seconds but get up from off the ground. "Well, uh, I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah, yeah," I reply before heading out with Dustin.
"You're totally into him."
"I just met him, Dustin. Don't make assumptions."
He begins to laugh, nudging his shoulder into me, winking. I roll my eyes, chuckling to myself. Eddie propped up against his car, smoking a cigarette. "Y'all done?"
"Yeah but Eddie, can you pick me up tomorrow morning. I left my car in the school parking lot."
Eddie groans, "Why can't we just go get it now?"
"Because I don't feel like it and I'm sure you don't either."
Eddie stands there for a second, before nodding. "Yeah, that's true."
"Wait, Y/N, where do you live?" He blows the smoke out of his mouth, letting the ashes fall to the ground.
"Uh, on Lockwood Drive, something like that."
He looks at me, dropping his cigarette, smudging it into the ground with his shoe.
"Alright, let's get going."

just kinda dig the idea that all the kids/teens have had a crush on Eddie at some point apart from Dustin and Robin obviously
Mike just feels obvious? My guy is enamoured with Eddie, ‘he’s just so cool, his hair is awesome, his clothes look so good’ my favourite part though is that he fully does not realise it’s a crush and how big it is, everyone else, including Eddie, can see it from a mile away but poor Mike has no idea until he’s like 22 then he wakes up in a cold sweat one day like ‘wait, did I have a crush Eddie’
Will and El meet him after everything and poor Will didn’t stand a chance, this guy plays D&D and the guitar and he doesn’t care what anybody thinks of him and he’s just so pretty, his heart falls out of his ass immediately and he follows Eddie round like a baby duck for a month straight at one point, El also thinks Eddie has pretty hair and he lets her braid it too, he lets her listen to his tapes and he smiles a lot and always gives her a hug if she asks, her and Will get over their little crushes when they go to see Top Gun and the beach scene becomes the only thing talked about in their house until Christmas much to Hopper’s dismay
Max grudgingly admits she once had a baby crush on Eddie, it wasn’t straight after everything but maybe a few months down the line, he would play Kate Bush on his guitar for her and let her paint his nails and they’d just talk about anything and nothing and fine she thought he was cute or whatever but then she tried to teach him how to skateboard and watching him immediately fall off it brought her right out of any infatuation she had
Lucas asks Eddie to teach him how to play guitar and during one of their lessons he looks over at Eddie, who is in his element right now, and briefly wonders what it would be like to kiss him, panics that that’s weird and makes an excuse to leave, he brings up the idea of kissing boys to Steve at their next informal basketball coaching session because Steve recently told them all he likes both, he doesn’t mention that it was Eddie that sparked this thought but after that moment he never really thinks of Eddie in that way again but one time he drunkenly admits that Eddie was his bi awakening and Dustin literally never lets him forget it
Erica will never admit that she thinks that weirdo super senior is cute, it will go with her to the grave but if she got him an ammo belt as an accessory before their showdown with Vecna just because she thought he’d like it, well nobody needs to know
Argyle openly states as soon as he and Eddie meet that he’s hot and that’s that, everyone just rolls with it not knowing that the majority of them silently agree with him
Nancy and Jonathan had a full in depth conversation about how cute and nice Eddie was once when he was high and she was drunk and neither of them remember it
Steve is SEETHING when he realises that he’s competing for Eddie’s time and affection with nearly everyone in their group, like yeah half of them are children but STILL, he watches them all cling to Eddie and silently stews whilst Robin counts down to his inevitable rant about it all, Dustin, blissfully oblivious to it all, doesn’t help matters by constantly talking Eddie up like Steve doesn’t already KNOW how great Eddie is, one day he accidentally lets it slip that he’s thought Eddie was hot for YEARS so why is he having to wait in line to hang out with him and Robin shrieks, what do you mean years Steve? and Steve admits that he’s thought Eddie was cute since he was like 14 and Eddie was a mysterious sophomore that just intrigued him so much but he thought it was wrong to feel like that so he never did anything about it but now he KNOWS and you know what it’s time he goes and gets his man
Eddie is ignorant to all of this (apart from Mike, even he can pick that one up and he did help Will with the whole sexuality thing but Will is just a cutie, right?) and just thinks that everyone is super sweet and chill if you take away the whole fighting monsters thing but he won’t complain if Steve wants to sit in his lap and give him a kiss out of nowhere, he’s cute and Eddie has a little crush, sue him

He barely sleeps, laying in the living room all night, staring at the ceiling, just thinking about how nice it was to finally kiss king Steve.
He has breakfast with the Buckleys, trying not to think about what happened in this same kitchen the night before. He was so later focused that Grandma Beth could tell something was up, she just smiled at him as she took his empty plate from the table to clean. Gareth and Jeff aren’t up yet, Robin doesn’t eat breakfast with them usually but today she came down. And sat beside him and had small-talk with him, having no idea that last night he was making out with her best friend down here.
“Thank you for breakfast,” he thanks Grandma Beth by walking over to the sink and wrapping her up in a half hug, kissing her cheek. “I’m not going to be here for dinner tonight. I have plans with a friend.”
He doesn’t notice but Robin's eyes grow impossibly large and she has to bite her lip so she doesn’t say anything… completely freaking out on the inside.
He heads out without saying goodbye to her.
He showers and changes his outfit about 4 times back at the trailer, all while Wayne sleeps on the couch in the main room. And thank god, because he couldn’t stomach lying to his face about where he was going for the day.
He wears his swim trunks under his jeans and packs a few of his things into a bag just in case he stays there all night. Not like sexy time things… more like his toothbrush and deodorant and the only brush he has that will go through his hair without scalping him. He spends so long packing and worrying that noon starts to approach and his stomach turns more than ever.
He's so nervous.
He fucking loves Steve and it's killing him from the inside out.
And then the drive over only takes 5 minutes so it’s not like he can listen to something to calm down before he pulls into the driveway.
He parks behind Steve's car, takes a few deep breaths on his walk up to the door and goes to knock right when he’s swinging the door open to tug him inside.
Steve hugs him tight as soon as the door is closed and no prying eyes will be on them. He kisses the side of his neck and breathes him in deeply. “You’re here.”
“I am,” he settles every fear fading as he holds Steve back. “Hi.”
“Hi,” he repeats, kissing eddies cheek lightly as he pulls away. “I have to go get the towels from the dryer, they beeped as you pulled in, you okay waiting here a sec?”
He nods, “yeah, take your time.”
“Thanks,” he steals one more kiss and then rushes out of the foyer and out of Eddie’s sight.
He looks around the foyer, the entrance of his house bigger than Eddie’s entire trailer… he sighed, wandering over to the black grand piano by the spiral staircase. He takes a seat at the bench, noticing the dust on the wood and the decorative runner laid on top of it. He lifts the cover, tapping some of the keys gently to see if they’re in tune, and if they sound okay.
He plays one of the only songs he knows on piano, his mom used to play the piano in her group recovery room, she taught him to play there, he’d never forget it.
The Winner Takes It All, with its easy key progression and sweet lyrics, it was a song his mother loved so dearly, from the moment it was released 6 years ago. Sometimes he couldn’t believe she’s been gone almost as long as it was out.
“I don’t wanna talk,” he sings softly to himself, not even thinking about Steve coming back to find this. “About the the things we’ve gone through. Thought it’s hurting me, now it’s history… I’ve played all my cards, and that’s what you’ve done too, nothing more to say, no more ace to play.”
Steve comes up the stairs from the basement to the angelic sound of the piano flowing through the house. It’s been years since anyone has played it. He didn’t even know Eddie knew how to play… he learns that Eddie can sing too, the closer he gets.
“The winner takes it all, the loser standing small. Beside the victory, that’s her destiny… I was in your arms, thinking I belonged there, I figured it made sense… Building me a fence. Building me a home. Thinking I'd be strong there. But I was a fool… Playing by the rules,” Eddie’s voice fits the song so beautifully that Steve stops in his tracks and stares from the doorway.
His voice echoes around the room beautifully, he’s effortlessly playing the keys like he’s touched them a million times before like his fingers are home. He plays with more intent, louder and more in the zone, it’s quite beautiful.
“The gods may throw a dice! Their minds as cold as ice… and someone way down here… Loses someone dear.
The winner takes it all, the loser has to fall. It's simple and it's plain why should I complain?”
Steve walks over slowly, not wanting to get too close incase he startles him and the song stops. He never wants it to stop.
“But tell me, does she kiss, like I used to kiss you? Does it feel the same when she calls your name?” Eddie doesn’t change the original pronouns, making Steve feel it even deeper in his chest.
What he’s feeling? He doesn’t know yet.
“Somewhere deep inside, you must know I miss you? But what can I say? Rules must be obeyed…The judges will decide! The likes of me abide… spectators of the show! Always staying low!!!” his beautiful voice hits that bravado and Steve’s knees almost buckle beneath him.
“The game is on again! A lover or a friend! A big thing or a small! The winner takes it all!”
He slows almost to a stop, playing softly, humming to himself, like he couldn’t carry on singing that hard anymore like his emotions got to him. So Steve stands behind him, placing his hand on Eddie’s shoulder softly, he jumps out of his skin and hits random keys, “I’m sorry—
“It’s okay— more than okay, even, that was beautiful,” Steve cuts him off and takes a seat beside him on the bench. “What brought all that on? Are you okay?”
He nods, “my mom used to play it a lot… before she died.”
“I’m sorry,” Steve looks deep into his eyes, tearing up just the same as his. “I didn’t know you lost your mom…”
“Yeah,” he takes a shaky deep breath and Steve feels bad.
“We don’t have to talk about it I don’t want you to be upset, this was supposed to be fun,” he reminds Eddie. “I uh, I have clean towels and stuff if you wanted to go swimming still?”
“I just miss her sometimes, but it’s okay,” Eddie whispers, not wanting to change the topic, not minding that he’s being vulnerable with Steve Harrington of all people.
“I don’t know what it’s like to have parents to miss, otherwise I’d say something comforting,” Steve’s honest. “In a way, I’m kinda glad they suck, cause this looks painful.”
Eddie laughs a bit, “yeah, it sucks, but I also have a shit dad so I get that side too.”
“I’m sorry,” Steve touches his arm again, smiling softly to let him know it’s okay.  It doesn’t take much for Eddie to feel okay with Steve, but he feels safe when Steve moves in closer, hugging his arm and resting his head on his shoulder.
It’s such a small act of trust, so innocent and pure, like a child seeking safety in their guardians' embrace, Steve feels comfortable with him. Him. Of all people in the world, it was Eddie the freak Munson that he was hanging off of like a scared cat caught in the rain and rescued by his person… it means more to Eddie than he would ever express.
He keeps playing even with Steve on his arm, the same cords as before, finishing the song that fit them so fucking well it was like ABBA wrote it for them from the future. “I don’t wanna talk,” Steve sings instead, his voice so low and different from the key Eddie was used to. “If it makes you feel sad. And I understand. You’ve come to shake my hand.”
“I apologize,” Eddie sings alongside him, soft and gentle and just for him. “If it makes you feel bad. Seeing me so tense, no self-confidence.”
“The winner takes it all!” Eddie belts, louder than before, stunning Steve that he can do “The winner takes it all!” Hitting the keys with passion and fervour, it’s impressive and exciting and honestly… pretty hot.
Still wrapped around his arm, albeit gently and barely holding on as Eddie played enthusiastically, he digs his chin into his shoulder as he tightens his grip and hugs his arm before doing the impossible. He kisses Eddie’s shoulder gently and covers it back up with his chin as if it never happened. Snuggled in, Eddie’s gone still from shock Steve thinks, when really Eddie just didn’t want to move and risk Steve rushing away.
“I really, really, like you, Steve,” he admits, glad he’s not looking at him to see the panic on his face.
“I’d hope so,” he giggles a bit, his laugh vibrating through his body and shaking a smile into Eddie’s face. “I like you too.”
“Should we go swimming now?” He asks, hopelessly embarrassed by the confession and even more so by his confusion. He didn’t know if Steve was just like this with all his friends or if he like liked him…
Steve pulls away and stands up, reaching out a hand for Eddie to take,  he does and makes it back to his feet, eye level with Steve. He never thought the colour of his eyes was to be desired until he saw Steve’s matching brown wonders, he gets lost in them momentarily. Swimming in the chocolate sea with content.
“Did you bring any swim trunks?” He asks, breaking Eddie out of his haze.
He nods, “under my jeans…”
“I was gonna say you’re a little bundled up for the end of June,” he teases.
“I have enough clothes for like 4 outfits, I can’t help it,” he explains, “it’s annoying trying that I only have so many ways to mix and match them so I don’t repeat often.”
“You can rummage through my closet? My mom buys me clothes to make up for how mean my dad is to us and I never wear most of the shit, you’re more than welcome to take anything you want,” he explains, “not like a handout or cause I feel bad for you or anything more in a what’s mine can be yours too if you want it? Kinda way…”
All he can do is nod along. His heart almost leaps out of his chest at those words, they sound a lot like what love is supposed to be to him and he wants it so badly. To be loved by Steve Harrington would be a blessing.
“Dude…” Eddie stills when he sees Steve’s room. It’s boring and plain, there’s nothing on the walls, the rooms an ugly cream colour, there’s no metals or awards or family photos… there isn’t a single sports banner or album artwork, it’s just a bed and a desk and a walk-in closet.
“What?”
“Your room has no personality?” His heart hurts, “where’s all your stuff?”
“Here?” He points, confused, “why? What’s your room look like”
“A pig sty where a bomb went off,” he quotes his uncle. “Do your parents not let you decorate?”
“It is decorated, there’s wallpaper,” he references to the wall behind his bed that was different from the rest. “And I made that model plane when I was 9,” he points at the old fighter jet hanging from the ceiling in front of his window.”
“i mean like posters, vinyls, nicknacks,” he really can’t believe it. Even his desk was clean. “It looks like you moved in yesterday.”
He shrugs, “it’s just always been like this.”
“I guess I expected it to be more like Robin's room,” he explains. “You know, her room is full of memories, she has everything taped to her walls and it’s so her… I was expecting all your sports awards to be up.”
“I have some participation ribbons and things I put away before you got here, I haven’t actually won anything myself, before,” he admits. “I’ve been on teams that have won, but the awards are at school. I don’t have any real accomplishments here.”
“That makes two of us,” Eddie rests a hand on his shoulder and pulls him into a hug. “Maybe we can get you some things to make it homier here…”
“I’m going to move out soon,” he admits, hugging Eddie back and resting his chin on his shoulder, swaying slightly. “I’ve saved all my money this summer and all my birthday money for years and I steal cash from my dad's desk drawer…”
“Rebel,” Eddie teases. “You should get a trailer… then we’d be neighbours.”
“Or roommates,” he suggests. “It would be nice to see you all the time… we could drive to work together and have dinners and stay up all night watching movies.”
“You’re so fucking cute it makes me want to scream, Harrington,” Eddie says through gritted teeth, squeezing him impossibly tight, he lifts Steve off the ground slightly and spins them around.
Steve laughs, holding on for dear life until his feet hit the ground again. “I’m just being honest!” He can’t help but get louder, his heart was so full that yelling was the only thing that felt right.
Eddie grabs both of his cheeks in his hands and kisses him right on the lips again, after thinking about it all night long, he was finally kissing him again. It's Steve who initiates more, swiping his tongue along eddies bottom lip, asking permission to make out with him.
With his hands searching Steve's back and his tongue making acquaintance with his own, he backs them up slowly until the backs of Steve’s knees are hitting the edge of his mattress. The kiss breaks for a second, Steve drags him into bed, pushing his jacket off his shoulders before he pushes Eddie down against the mattress and hovers over him. Laying mostly on his side, he tries his best not to touch Eddie too much, but Eddie grabs his hips and pulls him flush to his body, a hand on each thigh as Steve straddled him. He was literally in heaven right now.
He gently swipes Eddie’s hair off his face and behind his ear, “hi.”
“Hi?” Eddie’s breathless, shocked that they’ve ended up here as quickly as they have. “What are you doing?”
“Kissing my Eddie,” he whispers. He didn’t want to say friend cause they were more, and he couldn’t say boyfriend because that was too constricting for him right now… so he was now his Eddie.
He leans forward, kissing Eddie on the lips once more, and then his cheek and forehead. Both eyelids, his perfect nose, everything. “I’d like to kiss all of you…” he admits, moving to kiss his jaw and his neck.
Eddie cranes his neck to the side, giving him more room to kiss, “you can’t leave any marks… cause if I mark you up they’ll all know.”
Steve hums against him, his breath hot on Eddie’s neck as he pulls the neck of his shirt down, “you mean more… I have a hickie already, mister.”
“Mhm,” he bites his lips as Steve gently sucks on his collarbone, pulling away with a pop, he blows cold hair over it right after, making Eddie’s breath come out sputtered as he forgets how to swallow properly. He doesn’t even realize his nipples are hard until Steve plays with the left one, the one with a piercing through it.
He gasps, almost choking, “fuck, Steve, stop…”
“Okay,” he stills, afraid to move. “What’s wrong?”
“I’ve never done anything like this with a guy either… I’ve never even slept with a girl yet,” he admits. “And as fucking amazing as this feels, I have no fucking idea what I’m doing.”
“Okay, so I can show you,” Steve is gentile. “I mean, sex is sex—
“And I’m a virgin,” the words slip past Eddie’s lips as his face fills with shame. “I know it doesn’t seem like a huge thing to you cause you’ve had so many people in this bed before me…”
“Not that many,” he feels defensive. “I’ve slept with a few girls, sue me, but not all here…”
“It's still more than me,” Eddie whispers. “I feel like a fucking loser because of it.”
“You’re not?” Steve reaches out for him again, hand on his cheek, “you’re perfect the way you are and honestly… it will be nice when we finally do something cause I’ve never been with someone who cares about me… like really cares.”
“Not even Nancy? You were together a whole year,” he’s genuinely curious.”
Steve sighs and cuddles back into eddies chest
“Do you remember that party in 84, around Halloween? When Billy first showed up…”
“How can I forget,” he rolled his eyes. “God, it was a shit show, I think someone roofied the punch.”
“yeah… Nancy got so fucked up—
“You spilled the punch on her,” Eddie remembers. “And then you ran off to the bathroom.”
“Where she told me I’m bullshit, our relationship wasn’t ever real and she didn’t love me,” he starts to cry. “She just stayed with me 'cause she felt bad about everything that happened and she led me on for a whole fucking year. I loved her so much, I wanted to marry her… I was going to go work for my dad and stay here for a bit till she graduated and then follow her to school and she just couldn’t wait for me to get bored and break it off so she wouldn’t have to…”
“Are you fucking kidding me?” Eddie’s instant reaction is to protect, and from how devastated Steve looks, Eddie wants to kill… “she pretended? For a fucking year?”
He nods, dropping his chin down to rest against Eddie’s chest, “God, I can’t even begin to tell you why… and you wouldn’t believe me if I did? But I could get Dustin to confirm it when he gets home from camp.”
“He said they went through something bad as a group, and I mean, I know the whole zombie boy thing with Will… didn’t Barb go missing around then too?”
He nods, “Nancy thinks we killed her… she was taken from my yard while we were right her.”
“Oh,” Eddie realizes. “So she had sex with you for the first time the night her friend died and that makes you the bad guy?”
He nods, “or at least the biggest mistake of her life.”
“Not to be mean, but girls are fucking dumb in high school, they always say guys are but they can be just as clueless,” Eddie explains. “I mean, with the hormones from having sex the first time and the trauma of losing a friend, I can see why she’d be so willing to get so fucked up at a party… but leading you on like that is so careless and hurtful, sweetheart, I’m sorry, genuinely.”
“It’s okay,” he says again.
“It’s really not… but I get it if you want to drop it?” Eddie stares at him gently, brushing his hair behind his ear and cupping his cheek. He just wants to know where to lead the conversation, never being very good at making a conversation last long without some fantasy, and he can’t do that here.
“Why don’t you tell me a secret?” Steve asks, “I’ve shared a bit, it’s your turn.”
“Oh… I’m a pretty open book?” He says as he thinks about it. “Deadbeat dad, fantastic uncle, dead mom, trailer park, almost high school drop out, drug dealer… not much more.”
“Nothing super juicy in your family line?” He teases. “Did you know I have a half-brother?”
He shakes his head, “no, what?”
He nods, “my dad got some lady pregnant on a work trip and my mom forgave him as long as he never saw the kid… I only know 'cause I heard them screaming about it once when he got a fathers day card in the mail from him.”
“I understand more and more why my uncle fucking hates his guts every time you tell me more,” Eddie says with a tone of disgust. “Seriously, what a fucking asshole?”
“I hope I meet the kid one day,” he admits. “I’ve always wanted a brother. I think it’s why I love Dustin so much.”
“He’s something else,” Eddie agrees with a smile, he only got a week and a half with the dork before he went away to camp for the month of June. Everyone missed him, he was the life of their party.
Steve, still resting his chin on Eddie’s chest, pulls back and scoots his way up the bed a bit more so he can kiss him. Once, twice, three times before they start smiling, “he’s going to love this, you know?”
“Yeah?” He laughs. “He’s going to like his dungeon master and his babysitter getting together?”
Steve nods, “love it.”
He likes hearing Steve say that word. Love. He wants to be loved by him so fucking bad he’d do anything for it. “Steve… you think you can refrain from talking about him so we can get back to what you invited me here to do?”
He nods, “mhm,” he mumbles against his lips, cupping his face in his hands as he straddles his hips again.
Eddies hands wander up his thighs and over his hips, he slips them into the pockets of Steve’s jeans, cupping his ass as his tongue slips into Eddie’s mouth. Lost in the sensation, they end up in a haze of emotions, slowing time and making the pleasure endless…
It’s the first time Steve didn’t have to have sex to feel truly connected to someone. He felt safe and loved and happy… all without taking his clothes off.

Maybe it's because i still try to have some kind of hope in this show, but the fact that they cut the eddie/lucy scene where as ak said she told him she didn't want to replace him, but maybe the 118 is just growing and that our dear kristen saying they don't know if they can keep ak make me think that maybe she won't coming back, ofc they can't say omg everyone hates her because we mad a big mistake
Yeah, when the episode ended and they had cut her scene with Eddie (add it to the list of specific moments she mentioned that never made it to screen), I started to have a tiny bit of hope. I'm not holding my breath because they may be banking on the fact that since they cut most of her stuff the GA may forget about the kiss for the most part by season 6, and that the "joking" scene in the truck would shut down the idea of BL (for now) so people online would go back to defending her as "bi-besties" with Buck. Just like the did with Tay Kay. And oh look! It's happening, exactly as predicted. So they absolutely could be working on a soft revamp for the character. 🤷🏻‍♀️
However, they do have solid evidence most especially and most recently with Tay Kay that this approach doesn't work. The GA was ambivalent mostly about her coming back in season 4 and a lot of fandom took her obviously terribly treatment of Buck to mean they wouldn't get together. (Which is why I am so baffled that people think the show "made it clear" that BL were incompatible so we shouldn't worry. Like, have you seen Tay Kay? She called him "needy" right after we learned his painful backstory and even though it never made sense for him to want her after 2x06 it certainly didn't stop them from dragging BT out for a whole fucking season. ANYWAY) But come 5a when everyone saw Buck being miserable with her and how she ignored him and his light was just so dim, people starting singing a different tune. And then she was there all the time taking up screentime and then we got Ghost Stories and the GA officially got fed up with her. I think we were ALL looking forward to a fun, lighthearted episode (which we STILL never got the whole season) and to see all that stuff get cut so we could watch the most pointless procedural show about NOT first responding? To watch her half of the investigation which ended up having NO bearing on what Lou did, or how the case turned out? It was incredibly disappointing and the GA was done. The show continuing to drag it out for the whole rest of the season didn’t help either and I doubt they’d be able to bring her back though KR making sure to show them ending amicably after Buck was was so upset sure was...a choice 🙄
But in L’s case, she started out badly and never recovered for the GA after all the push for her in the interviews instead of talking about the actual main characters, and then the kiss. And we got a break for Boston, but 5x13 was so awkward and cringey and we saw her doing things we’d normally see Buck do on a call and after 5a being so light on things actually happening for the mains, people were tired of them not getting the focus. Then we had 5x14 and the whole high-rise save debacle which even the GA noticed was a WEIRD storyline to have for someone with so many more years of experience than Buck, instead of going to Ravi who has been a delightful and loved addition to the recurring character line-up. We just got to see him and Buck working together in 5x13 and making the save through good planning, so him making the save out of luck and then worrying that he might mess up and someone could die would be a natural thing for a probie to go through and Buck helping him through it would be a very full circle moment from 1x02. We also got her insulting Chim, insulting marriage to a group of mostly married people and someone who desperately wants to be (in another call that would have flowed better with someone like Chim or Ravi around), and all her otherwise superfluous moments.
So while the cynical part of me who is trying to quash any hope so I’m not disappointed and angry when she’s not fucking gone even though she never should have existed says to brace for impact, there IS a part of me that says the numbers are loud and they have precedence for knowing how this turns out and they can’t afford to do it again. Losing 1.5 million viewers and .6 key demo over the 2 seasons KR has been mostly at the helm is still a lot even if they’re not in the danger zone (though airing up against sitcoms helps). Plus two of the most hated characters ever on the show being her creations, and having to entirely cut a whole storyline because a 2 minute scene got SUCH backlash, and everyone dragging the finale as being incredibly lackluster and overly full of emergencies instead of showing us the main character’s storylines wrapping up, especially May’s after all the focus on her not being sure what to do in May Day, and Eddie’s after his arc is one of the only things that got consistently positive reactions from fans for all of 5b, and season 5 generally being criticized for poor planning/pacing issues/mains doing nothing, it’s a LOT of bad all at once and a lot laid at the feet of the showrunner. Which Tim picked and Tim signs off on decisions from, so he’d be in the hot seat too.
I’m just going to spend this hiatus manifesting some good changes and season 2/3 vibes coming back around for season 6, and all our mains getting the focus and screentime and storylines they deserve. We saw some incredible work from Ryan, Kenny, and Aisha especially this season and I hope the overwhelmingly positive and “it’s about time” reactions will result in more for them in the coming season, and for the love of all that is holy can we please get Oliver something to do outside of having to simper after KR’s self-insert women? The man is literally begging.

Previously:
Your shoulder brushes against him as you walk past Bucky and he turns his body around, following you with his gaze. He takes a long sip of his drink and places a hand inside his pocket, watching as you approach your ex-boyfriend.
He tries hard to bury deep down inside him the tug on his chest.
“Oh, fuck…”
Natasha’s curse makes him turn to her and he realizes she’s been watching him, with a dumbfounded expression he’s not used to see on her face.
“What?”
She scoffs and shakes her head, seeming in an estate of disbelief, “This whole time I’d been worried with the wrong person.”
No point. Bucky sees absolutely no point in trying to make it like there isn’t  turmoil twisting inside of him. Not for Natasha, anyway, it would be to no avail. Also, he’s pretty sure there’s a kicked puppy look on his face to make it harder for him to put on any kind of façade.
“Fuck,” he sighs and run his hand harshly over his face, “What the hell is this, Natasha?” He whines, failing at trying to not sound as helpless as he does.
“You tell me, buddy.” She points at him with her glass of vodka, tilting her head with interest.
“Shit,” he exhales, looking down, before his face snaps up at her, “I’m … just weird, I’m not myself these days.” Bucky bites his lower lip as if trying to somehow refrain from spilling the words, but he just can’t, he’s dying to let it all out. He steps closer to her and lowers his voice as much as he can with the loud music beating around them, “I’ve spent almost every day of the last month with her. I have absolutely no desire to see or think of another woman and I have to restrain myself constantly, cause if I had it my way I would call her every five minutes to check in on her, and… and when I’m thinking about her - which is all the time, I fucking swear - I wonder if she’s thinking of me, and now? I mean, right now? I feel like snatching the blade right now on my ankle and shooting it right on that fella’s throat.” Finally taking a breath after his rambling, he points in your direction, before turning to see you right when you’re letting out a small laugh at something the punk has said.
“Wow…” Natasha lets out a whistle.
“A few days ago,” he turns back to his friend, “I snuck into her closet to find out the name of her perfume. And you know what I did next?  I bought a large bottle for myself, like a fucking creep,” sheer frustration plasters on his tone.
“Oh my…,” Natasha snorts at the same time a mix of incredulity and amusement shines on her eyes, “That’s definitely creepy and it’s even worse than I imagined. The almighty Bucky Barnes, the I’m a whore and proud,” she thickens her voice playfully, moving her arms in a mimicking way, “The I don’t do romance and attachments king is a tiny lost puppy with big blue heart eyes, aww,” she inclines her head as if she’s thinking of him as exactly how she’s just described him.
Bucky tries but he can’t actually find the amusement in all of that. The fact one single woman is making him feel that way is entirely new, unpredictable and… scary as hell. He has no clue where to go from there.
Natasha seems to swiftly catch on his little inner self torment and, after letting out a deep sigh, she puts on a small smile and shakes her head, “Don’t worry Bucky, it’s probably a crush. A big one. But only a crush,” she places her hand on his arm, giving it a squeeze, “Y/n is one of my best friends and I know how delightful it is to be beside her. Maybe you’re just infatuated…”
“Maybe…” he exhales and shrugs, “I wouldn’t know… all I know is I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. Not that I remember…. but I’m pretty sure I would.” He looks at you again while you’re still talking to the Eddie guy.
“They have history,” Natasha says in a kind voice, following your gaze.
“I know.”
“He was her first and only boyfriend.”
“I know.”
“She thought she was going to marry him.”
“Damn Nat…” he breathes out his frustration, dropping his head for a moment, before raising his downcast gaze at her again, “Yeah, I know that, too.”
“But you’re Bucky fucking Barnes,” she snaps in a more cheerful voice shaking his arm with a enthusiastic force, “Don’t forget that, buddy,” she shoots him a warning glare, “Also, I’ve never seen a brighter smile on that woman than when she’s talking about you,” she beams.
Bucky’s heart jumps and a quick breathy smile surges on his lips before he takes in a shuddering breath, “I’m not sure what I should do, though.”
“Well, figure it out,” she lets go of his arm and taps on it, “My advice for the night if you should accept it is let it flow,” she shrugs. “Go on with your thing and see what happens. Just try not to hurt you or her on your way, though,” Nat warns.
“I’m not even sure I-Wait,” he frowns after his gaze is drawn to the spot where you are again, “Did that fucker just leave her alone?”
He instantly struts towards you, ignoring Nat’s snicker.
~~~
“Hey,” you smile, gulping down the nervousness down your throat as you approach your ex-boyfriend. The one you haven’t seen ever since he broke up with you months ago.
“Hey,” he offers you a tight but kind smile back.
You halt on your way, the awkwardness building up a barrier on your way as you’re not sure what to do next. Should you give him your hand to shake? Hug him? Do nothing at all? Not once before you had thought that moment would play out between you and Eddie.
But he seems a bit more resolved than you and shrugs, leaning forward and wrapping an arm around your shoulders, “Congratulations again,” he says, still holding you, “You’re the best and most hard working person I know, you deserve it.”
The small smile in your lips grows wider and you accept the compliment, relieved that the awkwardness seems to be tamed. While you’re so close to him after all that time, you notice he’s wearing the same perfume he’s been wearing for years, the one which would make you sneeze all the time, but you never really said anything.
“Thank you,” you lean back, sniffing discreetly to suppress the sneeze threatening to come out, “I’m happy you could make it,” you add. The fact he’s arrived all by himself grasps your interest, considering how everyone around you would tell you he was probably seeing someone else… however, if he did have someone, he wouldn’t bring them to your party, would he?
“Of course. I wouldn’t miss it,” he says with a gentle tone, but the formality is still there, you notice.
You two engage in some small conversation and you can’t help but to take him in and realize that, just like the perfume, Eddie looks exactly the same with everything else. The same hairstyle, same grey t-shirt you gifted him on your last Christmas together, the same constant half smile while he talks… he still speaks quietly, letting out just a few small words, which has always forced you to be the one to push on the conversations…
It’s… familiar… even comfortable, you dare say. But if you’re going to be honest with your own feelings, ever since he walked away, you thought you would be yearning to feel that familiarity again, that it would lead you to a sense of… home.
Why it isn’t quite like that, though?
“You look different,” he says as the subjects of small talk seem to come to an ending point.
You put your previous thoughts aside for later consideration.
“Oh…Different good or bad?” you ask, tilting your head with a small pull in the corner of your lips.
“I don’t know... just…different, I guess,” he frowns and quickly puts on that half smile of his.
“Oh, well… it’s been a while…“
“Yeah… I guess you’re right,” he says, regarding you with a wondering look in his eyes that makes you shift on your knees, “Listen,” he clears his throat, “I was wondering if we could meet to talk one of these days.”
“Oh,” you draw in a breath. Talking to him, having a real conversation, is something you’ve been wanting to do for a long time. It still feels like you don’t fully understand why you’re broken-up. Regardless the time it’s passed, you still feel attached to him somehow, like, no matter how exciting and new, you’re now living someone else’s life and not the one you had planned for you years ago.
“I mean,” he adds before you can give him a proper answer, “We still need to figure out what to do about the condo.”
The words are like cold water thrown at your face. There you are, thinking he wanted to talk about your relationship, but what’s really on his mind is the condo you’ve bought together. Swiftly, you work on putting a small smile on your face, “Yeah… sure, you’re right,” you nod.
“Hey! Eddie!”
Both of you look towards the female voice and your eyes fall upon a beautiful young woman you recognize as one of the members of SHIELD’s tech team. You’ve worked with her on a joined project of the two organizations before. Chloe… you believe her name is Chloe.
She’s waving at Eddie excitedly, calling him over the little group she’s with. She doesn’t seem to notice you’re standing next to him until her gaze meets yours. The wide grin on her face drops into a quick cringe before she nods in a respectful manner and shifts her look away, whispering something at one of the guys in the group.
When you set your attention back on Eddie, you tighten your lips just as you notice how the bone on his throat bobs right before his flustered eyes meet yours again.
“I-I, ahm, gotta go,” he runs his hand on the nape of his neck, “Can I call you later?”
“Yeah, sure.” Your voice comes out calm and controlled.
“It was good to see you,” he says, before placing his hand on your shoulder, “Congratulations again.”
After you give him a small nod as a thank you, keeping the tight smile on your face matching his, he walks away towards the group and the woman. The one your friends kept warning you about, apparently, given how uncomfortable he seemed to be in front of you after you saw her. As soon as he gets there, you see the two of them talking in hushed words. He keeps a safe distance from her, but his hand on her arm is where your gaze sticks on.
You don’t have the slightest idea of what’s happening with your feelings right now. Minutes ago you were realizing the familiarity of Eddie wasn’t what you expected it to be anymore, but now, seeing him so close to someone else… a beautiful woman, to be more specific, with her long black straightened hair and fancy blue dress holding each one of her beautiful curves…It just crushes you.  A lump grows in your throat and while your gaze flicks around, you feel small… lost… picturing ways you could flee away from your own party at the same time ten years of your life flash in your mind.
The cold, yet gentle touch of metal in your elbow is what takes you out of your own head, “Hey, everything alright?” says the silky and soothing voice.
Your gaze meets Bucky’s while he stares at you with concerned eyes. Those gorgeous blue eyes of his…There’s already a bit less  turbulence inside your chest and mind. You think nothing of it, though.
“Yeah, yeah…” you smile, “He, ahm… Some friends called him. He had to go.”
Bucky just lets out a hum – which sounds more like a groan – staring over your shoulder to where the little group stands.
“He said he wants to talk…“ you start, and don’t see when Bucky’s breath hatches catches on his throat, his eyes back on you, “About the condo,” you press your lips, “He said he’ll call me.”
While your gaze gets lost ahead, you have no idea that the sadness in them pinches deep inside Bucky’s chest. If you could read Bucky’s mind at that moment, you would find out that the fact your reencounter with your ex-boyfriend hadn’t ended up in some sort of hope for reconciliation hasn’t left him sad at all, but the lost look in your eyes… makes him wanna hold you in his arms and never let go. Not before punching a douche in the face, of course.
“Oh, come on, sweetheart,” he wraps his arm around your shoulder, side hugging and pulling you closer to him, “You’re the fucking boss now and, look around, ” he gestures with his glass of whiskey to the crowded and jazzing place, ”You have a damn Stark party just for you. We’re all here to celebrate the badass motherfucker you are. You’re not just going to let anything ruin your night, will you?” The corner of his eyes crinkle as he grins at you.
You let out a small laugh, the heaviness inside you slowly slipping out of your body as you allow yourself to synchronize with Bucky’s vibe. You can always trust  the upbeat way he presents the world to you to lift whatever mood of yours up.  You look down at your empty glass and shrugs, “I might need a refill, though…or two,” you shoot him a warning look.
Bucky’s smile stretches even wider and he lets go of your shoulders to offer his arm, nodding towards the bar, “Shall we?”
You gladly accept his suggestion by wrapping your hand around his elbow and walking with him, not even noticing that Eddie’s gaze follows you with piqued interest.
~~~
Quite a few more drinks later and after listening to Tony’s very nice and very Tony speech on his toast to honor you, you’re already fully invested in your party again. Bucky stays by your side most of the time, but you also come across with a lot of your friends from work and a few others, who are all more than happy to put you high on a pedestal for your promotion and party with you. It stings a bit when Camilla, your friend from work, tells you she heard Eddie and Chole are really together, but two or three more drinks after, you end up hitting the dance floor with a few friends by your side, not even seeing when Eddie leaves the party early, right before Chloe.
You’re happy to see that Amanda, one of Bucky’s friends you met that night in the club, has made it to the party, but you’re already too tipsy and it slips from your attention when she comments on how Bucky has been quite distant from her and the other girls for almost a month now.
If you’re going to be honest, you end up not truly noticing a lot of stuff since you’ve been drinking a great deal more than you’re used to, probably due the drill of having a kickass party thrown for you mixed with the unexpected sight of Eddie with a potential new girl - after months without seeing him. As the alcohol does its thing in your senses, you don’t notice the way Bucky looks at you, the way he holds you a little bit stronger when you’re dancing together, how he glares at the guys who tries to approach you or the fact he only leaves your side when he knows you’re comfortable and safe.
All you see and feel now is the music and the lights as you sway your hips to the beats. The party is almost coming to an end, but there’s still a small crowd of people enjoying their last moments there. The alcohol, the music and your friends, more precisely Camilla, Olivia, Amanda and Nat – the last two in the middle of a flirting contest you fail to notice, as well – are the ones around you. The buzz clouds your mind in a delicious way until your back bumps into a hard wall. Your weakened knees give in but before you hit the floor the wall wraps around you and holds you still.
Oh, you know that hard wall of muscles… You know it pretty well.
“Hey, there.” A foolish smile plasters on your lips at the same time the back of your head leans against the wall so you can see his face. His gorgeous and ungodly sexy face, “Your face is sexy,” you decide it is a very good idea to tell him that now.
“That right?” Bucky smirks, holding your gaze.
“Oh, yeah,” you clumsily turn around to face him, prompting him to grab you tighter since you stumble a bit on your toes. You curl the hand holding your glass around his neck, “And you’re big, too,” you don’t even notice but you’re a slurring mess as you speak and look to see your running hand down his broad chest, roughly probing his muscles, “Very, very big,” you exaggerate a sultry tone, the alcohol erasing any kind of subtleness or refinement in you or the notion that there are people around you, while your hand explores further down his body to say it’s not just about his muscles you’re talking about.
“Sweetheart.” Not making a big fuss about it, he gently grabs your wrist over his lower stomach to place it around his neck along with the other one, ”I’m very flattered to hear that, you’re one very nice piece of ass yourself, too,” he engages with you, keeping the playful tone.
You let out a girlish giggle, turning your face towards your friends, the trio now whispering and laughing among themselves as they watch the both of you, “He said I have a nice ass,” you shout, not realizing how loud you actually are as you lift and shake your hips, making your friends laugh harder and causing you to trip on your toes once again. But of course Bucky catches you before you fall.
“How many drinks, so far, huh?” Bucky chuckles, keeping the hold of his arms and eyes on you.
“Three or four,” you answer with nonchalance, bringing the glass to your lips as you hold yourself on his neck, only to pout when you notice it’s empty.
Your friends scoff at your lie behind you, “You can add at least ten more to that count, sweetheart,” Natasha shouts from behind you, punctuating the word sweetheart with a teasing pull on her mouth.
You make a dismissive face only Bucky can see, “Nonsense, check out what I can do,“ You step back from Bucky with the intention to put on a yoga pose you’re sure will convince your friends of how ok and steady you are and as soon as you lift your leg, you trip again and this time Bucky is not fast enough to catch you before your ass hit the floor.
The four of them rush to help you out as tears fall down from your eyes at how much you’re laughing, holding your glass up. It’s Bucky who ends up picking you up, though.
He and your friends shower you with questions to check if you’re ok but it all falls like a blur sound to your years.
“Ok, I guess it was a bit more than three or five,” ignoring the curious eyes around your group, you laugh making an ok sign with your hands before your stomach churns and you grimace, placing your hand over it, “Oh…” your face drops.
 “Alright, come one, let’s go,” Bucky supports you with his hands and urges you to walk with him.
“Where are you taking me?” You frown, sounding almost offended as he takes your glass from you and hands it to Natasha, gently pulling you along.
“My place… let’s freshen up, come on,” Bucky patiently says, nodding at the girls to say goodbye, who just nod back, knowing you would be in good hands.
“Ooooo, bye girls, we’re going to his place to freshen up,” you wink exaggeratedly and make air quotations with your fingers, addressing your friends as you clumsily walk away with Bucky.
~~~
“Bridal style,” you loudly announce stretching your hands and legs to the air as soon as he steps inside his living room with you in his arms.
Bucky can’t help but laugh as a snorting giggle follows your words. If he had his way he would’ve carried you from the party, but he didn’t want to attract even more attention to your state. So, on the second trip on your own feet inside the elevator he picked you up. It would be easier that way.
Bucky carefully puts you standing on the floor and, as soon as he’s convinced you can stand on your feet without stumbling or falling, he turns to shut the door, only to have you jumping on him as soon as he faces you.
“Hey, hey,” he manages to say softly, placing his hands on your hips as you shower his mouth and face with sloppy kisses which taste strongly like fancy champagne.
“What? Let’s freshen up,” you answer in a log slur, dragging your lips on anything of him you can reach.
Bucky laughs, pushing you away with a gentle yet steady touch, looking deep into your eyes, “That’s not what I meant… not when you had so much to drink, sweetheart.” He flicks his thumb on your chin.
It takes a moment or two, but realization – and disappointment- finally dawns on your face, “Oh… you meant freshen up for real…” You shut your eyes and tap your hand on your forehead.
Bucky thinks you’re too damn cute for your own good.
You focus on him again, “Are you sure, though?” You insist, shoving a finger in your mouth and tilting your hips, putting on before him the unsexist pose Bucky has ever seen.
Yet, it’s the most adorable thing and his annoying heart swells inside his chest for you as you keep your attempts of seducing him, “Yeah, I’m sure,” he nods unrelentingly, holding back a laugh and waiting to see the follow up of your shenanigans.
“But I’m horny and I wanted to suck your big dick,” you pout, crossing your arms and thumping your foot against the floor.
Bucky takes in a deep breath. He is only human and can’t help that his poor cock twitches at your bratty whine. But your glossy half open eyes and dragged voice reminds him he’s the only one sober enough to make decisions in the room and therefore, his buddy down there needs to chill, “I’ll be more than happy to allow you to do so,” he’s amused when your face light up, “But not tonight, sweetheart,” he puts his hands on your shoulders and turns you towards the kitchen, not without spotting the dirty look you give him.
“You’re no fun,” you complain, barely able to put one foot in front of the other before you stop and swirl around, trusting on his strong hold to not let you fall wearing a devilish little smirk on your face.
Bucky cocks an eyebrow, waiting for whatever mischievous pearl will come out of your lips now.
“What if…” you start before a hiccup interrupts you, “I show you my boobies?” You offer, leaning over and pressing your breasts together through your dress, “You looove my boobies,” you wiggle your eyebrows suggestively even if your eyelids can’t even remain wide open.
“I do love your boobies,” Bucky can’t deny, not hiding his amusement.
Apparently, that’s all you need to hear before you throw yourself on him again. Bucky swiftly catches you with a huff, but you can’t do much more than circle your arms around his neck and rest your head on him.
“Love your muscles,” you mumble quietly against him, “There are so many of them.”
“Come on, sweetheart,” Bucky tries, “As much as I love your boobies and you love my muscles, now it’s not the time. Now it’s time to get you some water, maybe a sandwich, huh? Then I can prepare you a shower and you can rest a bit and… Y/N?” Bucky calls when you’re too quiet- not even making a sex innuendo when he mentions a shower.
He listens a not so soft snore as a response and looks down to see you completely dozed, with your mouth agape against his chest. He sighs… still the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, goddammit.
“Guess we can skip right to the resting, then,” he whispers through a fond smile.
Taking you in his arms he walks towards his bedroom and places you on his bed. You only stir a bit when he gently removes your shimmery and apparently uncomfortable dress and unties your heels. He dresses you in a t-shirt of his so you can rest comfortably. He manages to make you drink a little bit of water, to which you whine graciously enough, and, after covering you with a thin blanket – because he knows you’re never really that cold at night, no matter the temperature in the room –  he moves to get up and maybe take a shower for himself.
“Bucky,” you mumble and, without opening your eyes, you move yourself to nuzzle against his metal hand sprawled on the mattress, “You’re not going to leave me, are you?”
Bucky is absolutely sure you have no idea of what that question really means to him, how it falls upon the rising tangle of feelings inside him… which is all for you. Wonderful and beautiful and special you, who came unannounced and stirred up something in him he never thought possible. Something he just doesn’t know what to do with.
Moving meticulously slowly not to pull his hand and wake you up again now that you’re deep back into slumber, he lays down beside you. For your question… he doesn’t say anything. Simply because he doesn’t know the right answer yet.
Have You Been Taking Care of Yourself?- a fanfic
prompt: Have you been taking care of yourself?
WC: 2044
It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence for Jane Seymour to be seen around the house, around the theatre, around the town doing what she could for others. It was very rare that she ever took the time to take care of herself, although she would tell you that by taking care of others she was taking care of herself.
“Okay guys,” Jane addressed the group as she loaded the dishes from dinner into the dishwasher. “So, tomorrow we only have a night show- no matinee. I’ll clean up around the house in the morning, but then I promised Val I would help out at the library for a little bit- you know just clean up some of the children’s sections and organize a bit. You know how kids can get.”
The blonde closed the door to the dishwasher before forgetting that she didn’t put in the dish detergent. “Do you think you could all manage to get to the theatre on time? Because Joan wants to run that new little lick that she thought would go well in my song before we put it in. And then the next day, I think I’m going to volunteer at the food pantry in the morning before the shows, but I was thinking we could all have dinner after? I’ll cook. And oh, Kat: don’t think I’ve forgotten about that shirt I told you I would embroider.” She closed the dishwasher once more, this time loaded with detergent before pressing the start button. Turning to her family, she put her hands on her hips and looked at the youngest. “I’ll do that after the show tomorrow.”
“You sound like you really have your days planned out for the next few days,” Catherine noted diligently.
The third monarch grinned. “I like to stay busy. Now, I’ve got to go to my room to coordinate a few things for tomorrow with Val, but I’ll be sure to make my rounds before I head to bed. If you need me, don’t hesitate to knock, yes?” The other five queens nodded their heads, watching in wonderment as the woman dressed in grey made her way up the stairs.
“Does she-” Cathy started.
“There’s no way she doesn’t,” Anne finished.
“She’s well aware that Edward's birthday and her death day are coming soon. She’s doing what she can to distract herself,” Catherine stated as if it was obvious. “She isn’t ignoring it, although she’s doing her best to try.”
“How are we supposed to help her?” Kat wondered.
“I suppose we just let her live. If she wishes to distract herself, then sobeit. We just have to be there when she breaks.”
“I think we can do that,” the fourth queen affirmed.
A week had passed, and Jane was still on the move- desperate as ever to get her mind off of her son and her untimely passing. Only, it was getting harder.
Any time she slept now, Edward haunted her dreams. Sometimes it was his birth all over again, the feeling of a three day labor returning. Other times, it was as though she was an angel watching over him as he mused his wishes for his mother to come back. Once it was the blonde boy confronting her angrily over her death- how could she leave him with such a horrible father, and wasn’t she supposed to be the first woman he would ever love; but he would never get that chance since she had the audacity to slip away from him before they could properly meet.
The blonde had been making meals for the queens for days now- something that each of the other queens knew was Jane’s way of coping. The third queen was already in the kitchen cooking or baking more than the others ever were, but it was more and more that the house smelled of something sweet being baked. Jane never ate any of it; she gave it away instead to those that she loved: her family, the food bank down the road, those at the theatre she thought could use a pick-me-up. The thought of food at this point made the woman nauseous. Not knowing if she could stomach the food, she had resorted to supplementing with a protein shake before continuing on with her hectic days she had planned.
“So, are we going to ignore Janey’s death day like she is or...?” the second queen questioned after the silver queen had excused herself from the table that night. Edward’s birthday had come and gone, and it seemed as though Jane was doing just fine.
“If this is how she’s coping with it- I know it isn’t necessarily healthy- but who are we to try to get her upset over it?” The writer wondered aloud.
“I’m not sure she’s coping with it very well though,” Kat sighed into her hand, half asleep. “Last night when I went to her room, she was wide awake. I didn’t think she’s been sleeping at night, so I stayed awake all night. She was awake too, until like five in the morning. I could practically hear the gears in her mind turning. Once she fell asleep, I did too, but when I woke up she wasn’t asleep anymore.”
“She was downstairs and saw me out for my run at six this morning,” Cleves muttered. “Has she not been sleeping at all these past few nights?”
“If you’ll excuse me, I think I have to go talk to Jane.” Catherine pushed herself up from her seat before beginning to make her way out of the room.
“Don’t you think-” Parr started.
“Querida, whatever is happening is far more unhealthy than Jane just letting herself break. Someone needs to talk to her,” the gold queen stated triumphantly before continuing up the steps and towards the grey room.
“Jane, love? Can I come in?” When the first queen heard no response, she assumed that the third queen was finally getting the shuteye she needed, but her light was still on. Turning the knob and letting herself into the room though, she found a puffy-eyed Jane Seymour awake and trembling.
“Oh honey,” Aragon sighed as she made her way across the room.
“I thought I could handle it this year,” the blonde winced as she busied herself with folding laundry. “If I just continued on like it was any other day, I thought I could handle it.”
Catherine plucked the shirt out of the trembling woman’s hands before folding it and placing it in the pile. Grabbing another, she asked, “Have you been taking care of yourself? Like, really and truly taking care of yourself? None of that ‘by taking care of others, I am taking care of myself’ shit.” Jane shook her head defeatedly.
“I haven’t slept more than two hours a night in the past two weeks, Lina. Every time I close my eyes, all I see is him.”
“Him?” The gold queen froze, the pants in her hands half folded.
The silver queen looked at Catalina for the first time since she entered the room before solemnly whispering, “Eddie.”
“Oh honey.” The pair of pants having been dropped to the ground, the elder queen embraced the third with all the love she could muster up. “You must be exhausted.”
“I am,” the younger monarch’s voice broke a little as she buried her face in the other’s shoulder. “I haven’t been able to eat either. I don’t think I can stomach anything at the moment, and I haven’t been able to since three days before his birthday.”
“When you went into labor,” Catherine sighed, a wave of sadness twinging through her for her friend. Jane nodded. “I’m so sorry, love. Why didn’t you-”
“Because I knew you would all dote on me, and I just don't know if I could handle that again. It’s like it makes it worse when you do. All that swims through my mind is Edward and the fact that I-” the younger queen pulled away from the woman dressed in yellow before mumbling, “-I failed him. I thought if I could take care of others, it would help me like it usually does but...”
“Querida, this is a completely different situation, and you did not have to go through it alone.”
“I’m sorry,” was all the troubled woman could breathe out.
“There’s nothing to be sorry for honey. But instead of taking this all on by yourself and constantly caring for others, why don’t you let us take care of you for a change? Nothing has to be out of the ordinary.”
“How would we even do that?”
“We treat it as though you’re on your period. I’m assuming you’ve been having phantom pains that you’ve just been ignoring?” Catherine voiced. When Jane meekly nodded, the first queen all but scooped her up into her arms and placed her in her bed. “I’ll be back in a few moments.”
“Please don’t leave me,” the blonde whimpered out.
“I won’t be but a few minutes,” she assured the woman in bed. When she noticed the pout that was beginning to grow on the younger woman’s face, Catherine pulled out her cell phone to text Kat. “What if I had Kat come keep you company while I just do a few things downstairs? I promise you I won’t be more than ten minutes.” Seeing that Jane seemed content with the plan, she asked the fifth queen to come keep the third monarch company for a few minutes.
“I’ve been summoned?” the pink haired queen joked before sliding onto the bed next to her maternal figure. When Jane grimaced in pain, Katherine immediately backed off.
“No, no, please come here. I’m fine.” The blonde waved a hand dismissively. “Just a bit of cramping, but nothing will stop me from-”
“Say no more Mum. You just tell me if you get uncomfortable, and I’ll help you in any way I can,” Kat told the woman gently.
Satisfied that Jane was finally taking a moment to rest, Catherine made her way out of the room.
When Catalina walked downstairs, she heard the television playing softly, but all eyes were on her.
“So?” the television show now forgotten about, the four women on the couch were staring at her curiously.
“She hasn’t slept more than two hours each night since three night’s before Edward’s birthday. She hasn’t eaten much since then either, unsure if she could stomach anything other than a light protein shake in the mornings. It’s no wonder she looks like absolute hell: the malnutrition along with the lack of sleep would have anyone looking like a zombie.”
“And yet she still looks like our Janey, although a few pounds lighter if I do say so myself,” Anne noted.
“Her sweater did look a bit bigger on her now that you mention it,” Cathy added on.
“So what are we doing about it?” Anna looked ready to help in any way she could.
“She doesn’t want us to make a big fuss over it. Says it makes it worse than it already is. I told her we could handle it like we handle any particularly bad period for any of us.”
“I’ll go get the heating pad.” Cathy stood from her place and headed to her room.
“I’ll make some toast,” Anne replied and made her way to the kitchen.
When Catherine gave her a stern look, Cleves sighed. “I’ll go cut up some bananas for the bread and make sure Boleyn doesn’t burn down the house making toast.”
“Very well. I’ll be in Jane’s room.”
That night, Jane slept peacefully with her five housemates by her side. For the first time in three weeks, the blonde queen was able to close her eyes without being harassed with terrible thoughts flooding her brain. Instead, her dreams were pleasant: a young blonde boy, a striking image of Jane (no Henry could be detected in this boy), enjoying the day with his mother- the five other queens included.
When the third queen woke up the next morning, she was greeted with a breakfast made by the house’s very own Catherine of Aragon. At her place sat a note:
Take care of yourself, and when you can’t: Let us take care of you.
Can’t Pretend - Richie Tozier
Tumblr media
word count: 13,840 warnings: swearing, sexual themes summary: richie and (y/n) share a dirty little secret, and it’s starting to get in the way of her relationship.  but it shouldn’t if it was just a fling, right? based on this song (a/n): about to hit 5.4k so I thought I'd celebrate by posting this ol’ thing :) I really like it I hope y'all do too :3
___
[ love... i have wounds, only you can mend // i guess that’s love… i can’t pretend ]
It was a plain saturday for the Losers.  And by plain, I mean they were chilling in Bill’s bedroom, thankful that his parents were out of town for the weekend because that meant they could raid the liquor cabinet and be a bit louder than usual.
(y/n) was leaning against the mattress, sat on the floor, a beer bottle in hand and a smile on her face.  These were the best kinds of nights, where all they did was talk, and it was all they had to do.
Eddie smacks Richie on his shoulder, but nearly hits his face in his drunken stupor.  And when (y/n) laughs, her head leans a little more into Ben’s leg, which is hanging off the side of the bed where he sat.  She’s laughing loudly into the denim of his jeans, and the material does nothing to muffle the sound.
Everyone else is laughing too, though, so it doesn’t matter.
“Alright, so is anyone aware that in four months, we won’t see each other like this anymore?” Beverly asks, a frown on her face as she takes another drink.  “I mean, what, am I supposed to make new friends?”
“Yeah, good look with that, Ringwald” Richie snorts, and Bev just flips him off, the way she always does when he calls her that.
“We won’t be that far from each other” Ben says to her with a sweet smile.
“And it’s not like we won’t write, too,” Stan chimes in.  “Except you Richie, after we graduate, never fucking talk to me again-”
“Oh, I’ll send you love letters every day sweetie pie,” Richie says before Stan can even finish.  “Don’t you worry, it’ll be like I’m right there with you”
He sticks his tongue out and snickers, while Stan grumbles about needing a break.
(y/n) can’t help but giggle at both boys.  Partially because she gets very giggly when tipsy, and partially because they’re the two funniest people she knows.  Richie grins at her when he catches her laughing, only making her laugh more.
“How are w-we gonna do it?” Bill muses, not really looking for an answer, because there really isn’t one.
“We don’t,” (y/n) shrugs.  “We avoid it until… there’s not really any other option”
“Dark” Ben mumbled.
“Its true,” (y/n) argued.  “If we go through this year with the mindset that this is the end, then we’ll push each other away, it’s psychology”
Eddie nods because he was in her class and is pretty sure he remembers hearing that.
“So we just live our best year” He agrees with her.
She high fives him.
“Well you’re already on your way,” Beverly said, and stood up from where she sat next to Mike so she could plop down next to her best girl.  “What, with your fancy scholarship, and your boyfriend” She singsonged the word, and (y/n) wilted with embarrassment.
“Come on Bev-”
“Are you guys gonna stay together?” Stan asks, the gears in his head turning as soon as her boyfriend was mentioned.  “I mean it’s been like… five months, right?”
“Four and a half” (y/n) mumbled, pulling her knees to her chest.
She stares down at her drink, and then takes a long swig.  She had a feeling she’d need it.
Talking about her boyfriend when everyone was around was… awkward.  It was one thing if it was just her and Beverly, but to have all the boys’ eyes on her every time his name came up made her feel hot, like she was being interrogated.
“So you’re kinda serious,” Stan shrugged.  “How many times have you done it?”
She chokes, and coughs for a long moment before catching her breath.
“Stan you don’t get to-”
“Come on, just fess up,” Beverly giggles.  “We won’t make fun! Promise!”
(y/n’s) cheeks go hot, and she knows they’re pink and that she’ll only be picked on more for it.  She locks eyes with Richie, who winks at her, and now her face must be red.
“We- uh-” Her eyes dart away before she can choke and lose her train of thought again.  “We actually um… haven’t… done… that” She says slowly, and with every reluctant word her voice gets softer.
“What?” Eddie screeches.
“No way,” Stan is laughing in disbelief.  “Come on, just give up the number.  What, ten? Fifteen? Twenty-?!”
(y/n’s) eyes are narrowed at him, silently yelling for him to fuck off.
“Really?” Beverly asks, just as shocked as the others.
Well, everyone was surprised.
“But he’s so…”
“Hot?” Eddie offers, only to get nudged in the ribs by the trashmouth next to him.
“I was going to say affectionate,” Beverly answers, staring skeptically at Richie.  “He’s always hanging all over you, how have you not hooked up?”
(y/n) shrugs her shoulders and stares down at her drink again.
“I dunno” She mumbles weakly.
“Has he tried-?”
“This is super awkward, can we be done?” She asked, voice still soft, embarrassed.
“I mean come on, don’t you want to f-”
“Can we stop fucking talking about this, before I’m forced to visualize his dick?” Richie cuts in, faking a gag.  “Oh, fuck, too late, thanks a lot you sluts”
Stan and Beverly are distracted by the comment and burst into laughter while Richie pretends to throw up.
After the conversation ends, and Ben starts talking about the colleges he’s deciding between, (y/n) glances over to her favorite glasses-wearing idiot.  He catches her gaze, and she mouths ‘thank you’.  He just smiles, before diving right back into conversation about why Ben should be an architect and not a poet.
A few beers later and they have to cut themselves off, because if they drink too much then Bill’s parents will notice and they’ll all get in trouble.  They shouldn’t be drinking anymore anyways, because everyone’s relatively tipsy, and with the general excitable mood among the group, drinking more would be a bad idea.
Everyone’s lying on their backs, staring at the ceiling and talking about nonsense.  What was once a serious conversation about their future has turned into a debate about what the most important thing to have when stranded on an island would be.
“A knife, definitely a knife” Mike argues.
“What? Fuck no, a gun” Stanley fights back, thus starting an argument about not having bullets because you can only choose one item.
“Flint? I guess? I don’t fuckin’ know” Beverly says sleepily.  She didn’t care much for this discussion when it started, and forty five minutes later, she still doesn’t.
“I’d bring an issue of Maxim, for sure.  Gotta keep busy you know-”
“Beep beep, Richie,” Eddie grumbles.  “I’d bring an epipen.  I’m allergic to everything on an island”
“Oh fuck off, you’re not allergic to sand” Richie smacks the boy on his arm for suggesting something so idiotic.
“I’d bring  one of my grandpa’s sheep,” Mike spoke after what seemed like forever of deliberation.  “It’d save his life and I’d have a companion”
“That’s sweet,” (y/n) cooed, smiling delightedly at the idea of Mike wanting a friend more than anything else.  “I’ll take a sheep too, please”
The two break out into laughter for a few minutes, uncontrollable, belly aching laughter.
“You can’t copy Mike, come up with your own!” Eddie scolded, offended that (y/n) tried to break the rules of their made up game.
“Alright, alright, let a girl think first…” (y/n) folded her arms over her head as she squinted, to help her thought process.  “Um… a book”
“A book?” Eddie laughed almost maniacally at her answer.  “Alright, just fuckin’ take a sheep from Mike, that was even worse”
“What? No it isn’t,” (y/n) argued.  “It’ll keep me occupied and entertained, and when it’s done I can read it over again”
“Lame” Eddie muttered.
She reached over to smack him, and sadly Bill got caught in the crossfire.
“You wouldn’t bring your lover?” Stan teased, and she almost hit him too.  “You’d pick a farm animal over your boyfriend?”
“I didn’t think of it like that” She said quietly.
“I don’t get you guys,” Stan says, and she sighs because the conversation has somehow drifted to him, again.  “I mean, it’s been four and a half months, and typically couples get it on for their one month.  But you’ve had four anniversaries and still haven’t-”
“Why are you so interested in my business, Stanley?” (y/n) asked, a bit more defensive than she needed to be.
He raises his hands and pulls an innocent face.
“I’m just worried about you!” He retorts.  “You’re the one in desperate need-”
“I’m not desperate for anything” She snaps.
“Yeah, Stan, she’s not a virgin, (y/n’s) gotten some before” Beverly makes an attempt to back (y/n) up, but it only makes her feel worse.
“What? But he’s her first boyfriend- oh my god, who was it?” Stan asks, way more interested in this topic now.
“Leave me alone” She rolls her eyes and shoves his shoulder.
“Oh god, it must be real embarrassing,” Eddie is giddy for the gossip now, sitting up to join in better.  “Who was it?”
“Cut it out” She says a bit louder, sharp eyes meeting Eddies, a silent threat in them.
“Who was it, Bev?” Eddie asked, deciding to go the source it came from.
But she shrugs her shoulders, and makes an ‘I don’t know’ sound.
“What do you m-mean you don’t kn-know?” Bill stammers out.
“She didn’t wanna tell me” Beverly answers, simple as that.
(y/n) covers her face with her hands.  She wishes she was more drunk than she was, because then maybe there was hope for recovering from this.  Or maybe even forgetting completely.
“Must be real embarrassing,” Richie teases.
She peeks at him through her fingers.
“Bowers?” He asks with a raised brow, and she barks out a laugh.
Everyone laughs then, at the mere idea of anyone hooking up with that nutcase.
“I promised I wouldn’t tell, okay?” She admits after the laughter has died and all attention is on her again.  “It’s private” She adds softer.
“Fine” Stan gives in, not wanting to make the girl anymore uncomfortable.
If they knew anything about (y/n), it was that she kept secrets and promises locked away forever.  She was the most trustworthy person any of them had ever met.  And she’d never break someone else’s trust either.
“But if you’ve done it before, why aren’t you, yaknow, still doing it?” Stan asks, and begins to giggle at his own words.  “I mean, if I had a hot girlfriend, I’d be doing it like… all the time”
“Pervert” (y/n) mumbles.
“Did you just call (y/n) hot?” Eddie asks, and everyone ooohs at his catch.
“Alright, alright! Calm down, of course I did!” Stan announces, and a blush takes over the girl’s face again.  But this time she’s not embarrassed, she’s flattered.  “It’s an observation, okay? Jesus”
She giggles, and leans over to kiss his cheek.
“You guys are so dumb,” She mumbles.  “I love you all so much”
“All I’m asking,” Stan declares, voice loud.  “Is why you’re avoiding it!”
“I’m not avoiding it” She argues, but she knows she’s failed because it’s such a blatant lie, and any sober mind would be able to see that.
Luckily, no one in this room is sober.
“Oh yeah?” Stan scoffs.  “Have you been home alone with him in the last four and a half months?”
“Yeah?” She asks, voice cracking slightly.
“And you didn’t screw him?”
“Watch it” Richie’s voice bites from where he lies a few feet away from them.  Stan pays it no mind, but Bev kicks his leg, and furrows her brow at him, wondering why he gave a fuck what Stan had to say.
The others were either asleep, or didn’t want to step in on the mini argument (y/n) and Stan were having.
Ben and Mike had passed out on the floor a few minutes ago.  And Eddie and Bill just sat and listened to the argument, wishing they could pass out.
“No, I- I didn’t,” (y/n) stammers.  “But so? I don’t want to rush it-”
“Liaaaar,” Stan singsongs.  “You don’t want to hook up with him”
“That’s not true!” She exclaims.  “We-. we’re actually hanging out at his place tuesday night,” She tells him matter of factly.  “Alone!”
“Ooh, good for you,” Stan retorts sarcastically.  “That doesn’t mean shit unless you actually take your pants off”
Her face scrunches up as her eyes narrow at him.  Now she’s angry, because he doesn’t believe her, and he’s not trying to.  So what if she’s lying through her teeth? He’s her friend and he should believe her.
“I’m tired” She announces suddenly, and forces herself to stand up.
She steals one of the few blankets on Bill’s bed that he’d prepared for everyone.  Her balance is a bit shaky as she wraps it around herself, and heads for the door.
“Goodnight” She calls, only once she’s left the room and is heading for the pullout bed in the living room sofa.
The room is silent for a few minutes after she’s left.
“Well fuck, you’re gonna have to apologize in the morning” Eddie mumbles, and San knows he’s talking to him.
“I didn’t think she’d get that pissed,” He replied guiltily.  “I was just messin’, I thought she’d just get embarrassed.  I don’t know what I did-”
“She doesn’t like talking about that stuff, dumbass,” Richie says.  “Shit makes her uncomfortable”
“Well I didn’t know that-” Stan starts to argue.
Beverly stops him before he can start any more drama tonight.
“Don’t worry about it, Stan, she’ll be alright,” She says, and then gets up to get a blanket as well.  “I’ll go talk to her to make sure she really is alright, goodnight”
The boys mumble a ‘goodnight’ back to her, and she descends the staircase to check on her friend, who’s laying facedown on the mattress.
“Oh, hon,” Bev laughs, and lays down next to her.  “Don’t be so upset with Stan, he was just being dumb-”
“I know” (y/n) mumbles into her pillow.
Beverly pulls the blanket she’s brought with her and drapes it over her back, so she won’t get cold while she’s pouting.
“Then what’s troubling you?”
Her words are a bit slurred, but the care is still there.
“I just… I don’t know.  I didn’t have to think about it before and now I can’t stop,” (y/n) admits with a sign.  “And maybe I’m upset because… he’s right.  Maybe I’m upset because he’s write and I wouldn’t admit it to myself, but I have been avoiding hooking up with him.  I mean, so much could go wrong and I just… don’t want to have a bunch of drama our senior year, yaknow? I want it to be smooth and easy.  And so far with him our relationship has been smooth and easy, but what if he’s wanted to do it this whole time and I keep dodging him and now he’s gonna break up with me?”
(y/n) lifts her head to turn to her redheaded friend for advice.
But Beverly is sound asleep, snoring softly against her pillow.
(y/n) can’t help but smile a bit, even though she really needed help sorting out her messy thoughts.  But she wasn’t going to bother Beverly by waking her up.
So she carefully crept off the squeaky pullout mattress, and went back upstairs.
Ben and Mike are still asleep on the floor, but someone’s thrown a couple blankets over them.
Stan is on Bill’s bed, facing the opposite direction as Bill, and they’ve both knocked off as well.
Maybe everyone else had more to drink than her, she thinks as she shuts the door to leave them be.  When she turns to head to the guest bedroom, she nearly runs into Eddie.
“Who are you looking for?” He asks right away.
He rubs his tired eyes, and she adores that he looks like a child when he does so.
“Um-”
“Richie’s in bed already,” Eddie says before she can answer.  “If you’re gonna prank him, you might want to wait a few minutes, so you know he’s in a deep enough sleep”
(y/n) chuckles at the unprompted advice, and nods her head.
“Alright... thanks” She says.
Eddie doesn’t say anything else as he pushes past her to go to sleep in Bill’s room.
“You aren’t gonna sleep in the guest room?” She asks with furrowed brows.
“Fuck no, Richie kicks and talks in his sleep.  I’d rather stay on the floor with those two” Eddie answers, and then gives her a small wave before shutting the bedroom door.
She takes a deep breath as she stands in front of the guest room’s door.  And then before she could stop herself, she opens the door, and shuts it quickly behind her as she steps inside.
Richie's laying in bed, arms wrapped around the pillow that his face is pressed into.  He mumbles a slurred ‘who is it?’ into the feathery cushion.  But he knows it’s her before she even answers.  Because as she sits on the side of the bed next to him, he can smell her perfume.
He squints up at her, having lost his glasses somewhere in Bill’s room, and wonders what she’s doing here.
“Surprise” She says weakly, and a slight smirk tugs on his lips.
“What’s goin’ on?” He asks, leaning his face back down into the comfort of the cool pillow.  He was already getting a headache from the four beers he had.  (He’d drank two of the three Eddie had gotten)
“Can we talk?” She asks in a voice so soft that she can only be referencing one thing.
Richie nods, and pats the space next to him with his palm.
She hesitates for just a moment, before giving in and laying down in the spot, grabbing a hold of the other pillow she mirrors Richie’s actions and hugs it under her head.
He doesn’t say anything, just lays there with his eyes closed in the dark and waits for her to go first.
“Was I….” She starts, but then bites her lip and shakes her head as she changes her mind.  “When we…”
“...hooked up?” He offers.
It’s so casual, so quiet, that her heart skips a beat, because she can’t believe he can just say it like that.  Speak their darkest, most carefully kept secret, out into the open like that.
“Yeah…” She mumbled back.  “Was I… I don’t know… good?”
He opens his eyes now, and his brows furrow as he sees her anxious expression.
They hadn’t talked about it since it had happened, which was their deal, but after her argument with Stan he figured she was going to sneak in here and talk to him.  He’s not sure why she looks so scared, though.
“Were you good?” He repeats her question, like he doesn’t understand it.
She nods her head.
“(y/n), of course you were good, you were you,” He chuckles, a genuine smile on his lips.  The compliment, if you could call it that, made her blush.  “He’ll be lucky to have you in his bed, alright?”
“Be honest with me,” She said.  “Don’t just say stuff to make me feel better”
“I’m not” Richie grumbles, laying back down again.
His head his swirling a bit, and with her laying so close to him, it wasn’t helping.
“Why haven’t you done it yet, anyways?” He asks her after it’s been silent for too long.
“I…” She tries and fails to answer the question.  But she’s her most honest self when she’s with Richie, and feels he deserves an explanation for her behavior tonight.  “... was scared” She finishes after a few minutes.
“You’re scared of sex?” He mumbles, and she shakes her head.
“No… just… with him”
“That makes no sense, (y/n/n)”
“I know” She whispers out, and her fingers draw patterns on the sheets.
“You think he’s gonna… hurt you?” Richie asks, because as soon as the thought crosses his mind, he has to ask.
“No, of course not,” She replies, and lifts up his blanket so she can shimmy under it and warm up a bit.  “Sometimes I feel like I just don’t know him” Her voice drops to a whisper again.
Her eyes are focused on his tee shirt, trying to figure out what band is advertised on it while Richie thinks.  He’s not sure what to tell her, because of course he doesn’t want to promote her hooking up with him.  But… the guy’s her boyfriend, so what’s he supposed to do?
“(y/n)....” He sighs, and subconsciously wraps an arm around her.  His hand tangles in her hair, massaging her scalp comfortingly.  “That’s not true, you’ve been together for a while now”
The logic is there, but she’s unconvinced.
“And besides,” He continues, and she looks up at him, meeting his kind eyes.  “When you’re ready, you’ll know,” He says, and he grins before poking her cheek and nose.  “But you already know that”
She giggles softly, swatting away his hand.
“I hate when you’re right, you know,” She says through a yawn.
Without thinking, she leaned her head into his chest.
“What if I don’t want to do it, though?” She asks.  “What if… what if I don’t like it?”
“You hurt my feelings when you talk like you’ve never done it before”
“No more jokes,” She whispers.  “I mean it”
“Then you tell him, and you stop,” Richie answers without missing a beat.  “That’s how it works… you know that, right?”
“S-sure,” She stammers out.  “But what if-”
“No, there’s no ‘what ifs’ about that one, (y/n/n),” He tells her seriously.  “I’m not fucking around, if you want to stop then you-”
“Don’t worry, Rich,” She hums.  “You don’t have to give me the consent talk, that’s not what I mean”
His brows furrow down at her, but she doesn’t see because her eyes are closed and her face is hidden in his shirt.  For a second he’s distracted and wonders if he should be holding her like this when she has a boyfriend.
“What… do you mean, then?”
“What if I’m not… um…” She trails off, clearly embarrassed.
“Come on, don’t hold out on me now” Richie chuckles teasingly.
“... attracted to him… sexually?” She speaks like she’s unsure of her words, and it takes everything in Richie not to laugh out loud.
“That’s not something I can fix, hon” He tells her, and she can tell he’s holding back a laugh.
She’s silent, and Richie hopes she hasn’t fallen asleep, because knows it wouldn’t be right to share a bed for the night.
“I mean you’ve… done other stuff, right?” He asks, and even that seems wrong.  He really shouldn’t even be talking to her about this, but it’s not his fault that he’s the only person she can talk to about this stuff.
(It’s maybe his fault that they slept together in the first place, but surely (y/n) can take some responsibility for that one)
“Not really” She says in a barely audible mumble.
“Not really?” He repeats, confused by the question.  “All you’ve done is-”
“We’ve made out a couple times,” She tells him before she overthinks it and starts to feel uncomfortable.  “That’s it”
“Clothes have never come off?” He asks with a chuckle he can’t contain.
(y/n) shakes her head.
“What the fuck is wrong with-”
“Richie…”
“-him?” He finished anyways, taking her by surprise that he wasn’t trying to bash on her.  “Look, (y/n/n), it’s your relationship, you do what you want to do.  But do you even see a future with him?”
She’s silent again.
And then she shuffles off the mattress, and heads for the door.
“(y/n),” Richie called with a sigh.  “It’s just a question”
She held the open door in her hand, and looked back at him.  He had a guilty but confused look on his face, and was propped up in ed, hoping she’d come back and finish talking.
“I’m tired, Richie,” She said softly.  “Goodnight”
He let out a sigh, regretting having been so forward and pushing her out of her comfort zone.  He hadn’t realized it when he’d asked, but he sure as hell could tell now.
“Goodnight” He said before she could shut the door behind her.
(y/n) was glad that Beverly was fast asleep on the pullout bed still, because all she did for the rest of the night is fuss to get comfortable, only to lay wide awake, overthinking.
Trying to figure out a future with her boyfriend in it. ___
[ oh feel our bodies grow, and our souls they play // yeah love i hope you know how much my heart depends ]
It was loud, it was so loud that the bass in the music playing was ringing in her ears, and making the liquid in her cup ripple.  But that might have just been because she was stumbling around so much, trying to find somewhere to chill out for a minute in this sea of bodies.
Richie Tozier’s hand was holding on tightly to hers, pulling her behind him, acting as a guide through the chaos.  But who was she kidding, he was the chaos.  It was his house party after all.
How he’d even invited this many people, (y/n) wasn’t sure.  It’s not like he knew everyone here, but word of mouth works fast in Derry, and a byob party that had half a dozen kegs and then some, not one student from their school missed it.
Even Stan was here… somewhere.
It was a bit hopeless to go looking for people in this crowd.
Finally Richie had taken them outside.  There were still a couple dozen people hanging out in his backyard, but at least she could hear herself think, or take a step without bumping into someone.
“Thank god,” She huffed, pushing her hair out of her face and taking a drink.  “I thought I was gonna get trampled to death in there”
Richie chuckles, eyes shining as he watched her finally relax a bit.
“You would’ve made this party worth talking about if you had” He teases her.
“I think it already is,” She replies with a small and nervous laugh.  “The whole school’s here, Rich, I think people will be talking about it for a- who brought a kiddie pool?”
She cuts herself off as her eye catch a plastic pool, filled with eyes and the most beer she’s ever seen all at once.  They definitely hadn’t brought it, although she’s surprised that none of them had thought of it when planning for this party.
“Don’t know” Richie shrugs, and then wanders over to grab them two bottles.
They’d been drinking soda all night, not wanting to get shit faced so they could keep an eye on things.  But they were well past that, and at this point, whatever happens, happens.
She taps her glass against his in a quiet ‘clink’
“Cheers to you, Tozier” She says with a rather sweet smile, the kind that he compulsively smiles back at.
“And you” He replies, before tipping the bottle back and taking a long swig.
The thing about (y/n) was that… well, there was just this thing.  An undeniable, unspoken, electric thing.  There was something about her that drew Richie towards her like a magnet.  Even tonight, he’d shown up at her side, and just like that they’d spent the last two hours together.  She was such a lovely person, which was a rarity in this town.
He had a feeling that she owned his heart, even though he just had a silly teenage crush on her.  But what had started as a silly crush, an admiration for her beauty, grew into an adoration of her entire being, her soul.  He was falling for her, at a speed from the atmosphere, and he was bound to crash soon.
Her hand reaches out and seizes the sleeve of his denim jacket, yanking him towards her all in one motion.  His heart’s beating out of his chest with anticipation, but as quickly as she’d grabbed him, she was shaking him out of his daze.
“You almost got knocked over,” She tells him, nodding to the pair of drunken boys with their arms slung around one another, stumbling around the backyard, trying to walk in sync.  “You alright?”
“Yeah, sorry, out of it” He answered with choppy words.
He finds the crease between her brows adorable.
“You only took one sip,” She jokes, poking at his bottle.  “Quick, how many fingers am I holding up?” She asks, holding four fingers in front of his face while giggling.
Richie rolls his eyes, grabbing her hand to pull it out of his face.
But he doesn’t let go.
And for the next hour, as they talk and drink a little and dance, her hand remains in his.  She didn’t say anything about it, which he’s silently thankful for.  Maybe she feels safer when attached to him, knowing she’s not going to get sucked into the crowd and lost.  Or maybe she just… wants to.
They’re dancing in the living room, to a song neither of them knew, with a hundred strangers, when she finally mentions it.
“You’re blushing!” She announces, albeit a bit tipsy.
There’s a grin on her face, and with her free hand she pokes at the pink on his cheeks.
“Cut that out- what’s with you and jabbing your fingers at me today?” He says, trying to brush it off and get her to forget about it.  It doesn’t work.
She bursts into a fit of laughter, and her body leans towards his a bit as she does.
She only lets go of his hand to wrap her arms around his neck and spin them around excitedly.
“You never blush,” She says.  “So what’s on your mind?”
She sounds bubbly, as if his answer is amusing to her, and she’s impatient to hear it.  Richie shakes his head, and wills the heat in his face to go away, but it doesn’t.  Of course it doesn’t, she’s standing a few inches away from him and staring at him with those round and curious eyes that he loves and-
“You” He responds with a shrug.
His voice is cool and casual as ever, but he’s losing his shit on the inside.
Her lips form an ‘o’ as she processes the single word.  For a second he regretted speaking, which was kinda normal for him, but then her eyes lit up and she giggles with delightful bashfulness.
A breath of a laugh escapes his lips as he laughs nervously with her.
“You’re adorably funny” She says, and takes him by surprise when she leans up on her toes, cups her face in one hand, and presses a kiss to his other cheek.
When she lands back flat on her feet, she’s amused by the grin that she’d put on his face.
“Drinks?” She asks, and when he pulls a face, she clarifies, “Non-alcoholic drinks”
“Fine” He agrees, and when they head out of the living room, her hand reaches out and grabs his, slotting her fingers through his with ease.
He glances down to her when she does so, but she just gives him a big and innocent smile.
They find their friends in the kitchen.  Beverly and Eddie are quite… shit faced, while Bill is drinking water and trying to get them to have some as well.  From what Richie and (y/n) could tell, his efforts were useless.
“Let them be,” (y/n) says, ruffling up Eddie’s hair with her free hand, only to get swatted away.  “They’ll pay the consequences in the morning”
Bill shrugs and hums in agreement, but he tries to get them to drink something.
“What’s goin’ on here?” Bev asks, pointing at Richie and (y/n’s) conjoined hands.
Richie starts to let go, but she squeezes his hand and smiles almost proudly at her drunk friend.
“Well I don’t wanna get lost” She says confidently.
Beverly shrugs, not having the attention span to ask further questions, or really care.
“Is that- are you- is that rootbeer?” Eddie asks, and he squints at the can in (y/n’s) hand, like he can’t see.  “You’re at a- a fuckin’ party and you’re drinkin’ a soda?”
“Leave her alone Eddie Spaghetti” Richie chides, smacking the shorter boy on the shoulder.
“Yeah, Eddie Spaghetti” (y/n) adds in a mocking tone, and giggles to herself at the nickname.
Eddie hates it, but he’s drunk off his ass, so there’s not much he can do about it.  He’ll try to throw hands with Richie tomorrow.
Bev starts to tell a story about a fight she saw on the front lawn.  It’s missing parts, and she’s having a hard time remembering most of it, but they listen because it’s funny and interesting.
(y/n) sat herself on the kitchen counter, drink in one hand and Richie’s hand in the other, laughing along and encouraging her to continue.  Even when she finishes her story, she’s not sure what happened, or who was even fighting, but it doesn’t matter.
“It’s l-late,” Bill says, eyeing the stove that reads 2:15.  “I think I should go”
“You’re not staying the night?” (y/n) asked.
Richie’s parents would be gone for another day, leaving plenty of time for the Losers Club to hang out, and clean up the trashed house everyone else left behind.
“No, I sh-shouldn’t,” He says.  “B-but I’ll come b-back tomorrow to help with th-the mess” He adds in a reassuring tone.
“Alright Billy,” (y/n) reaches her arms out towards him, prompting him to hug her goodbye.  She embraces him tightly for a short moment.  “See ya tomorrow”
He gives a small wave, and then offers a ride to Eddie and Bev.  They both decide to keep drinking and crash at the house.  He’s not surprised.
“I feel like dancing!” Beverly declares, and is out of the kitchen before anyone could say a word.
“Man is she fuckin’ wasted” Eddie chuckles.
Richie and (y/n) burst out laughing at the irony, but don’t tell him why it’s funny when he asks why they’re laughing their asses off.
Eddie winds up sitting on the kitchen floor, and then laying on it, cradling an empty bottle of vodka to his chest.
“You gonna sleep down there with him?” Richie asks (y/n), and gives the asmathic on the floor a gentle kick.
(y/n) giggles and shakes her head, and without thinking, reaches out to grab onto his hands again.  With a small tug, he steps closer, almost standing between her open legs.  But he doesn’t dare move that close.
“No…” She answers after a minute.  “There’s no way in hell you’re making me sleep on a floor”
“Well, if the beds are all taken-”
“Richard Tozier” She says his name firmly, “If you don’t give me a bed to sleep in like a human fucking being I swear I will-”
“You’ll what, sweetheart?”
His voice drops an octave, and his head cocks to the side a bit as he stares at her skeptically, wondering what it was she was about to say next.  When her mouth is left hanging open, he smirks a little.
“Come on (y/n/n), you’re not the threatening type,” He speaks at a normal volume again, but his closeness and the look on his face doesn’t fade.  “Besides, you got nothing on me”
“Oh, I doubt that-” She tries to argue, but he cuts her off again.
“Just try to think of something, you can’t.  My record’s squeaky clean”
He leans a bit closer with every word, but the movement is miniscule, and she’s probably the only person in the room who could have noticed it.
As soon as he eyes wander to his lips, they dart right back up, but it’s too late, he caught the glance, and his smirk widens.
Richie quirks a brow in question, like an asshole.
She sets her soda can on the counter next to her.
“You really value me so little that you’ll make me sleep, where, on the floor? The bathtub?”
“I think the tub is still occupied, actually,” Richie says.  “And the floor, well, it’s covered in trash and…” He looks down to Eddie, who’s very close to passing out.  “... more trash”
(y/n) hits his chest with the back of her hand.
“That was for Eddie” She says, and Richie laughs.
She’s got an offended look on her face, and fuck if it wasn’t the cutest thing he’s ever seen…
“I’m just saying sweetheart…” He shrugs his shoulders innocently.  “Your sleeping options aren’t looking great.  Pretty much everywhere is taken”
She’s quiet for a moment, and he can tell she’s hesitant, because she bites down on her lip, and she has a hard time keeping eye contact.  He doesn’t rush her to say whatever’s on her mind, just stands there, unmoving, and waits.
“Show me a bed, then, Tozier”
It’s soft, whispered like a secret, and unsure.
They’re both still for a beat, each waiting for the other to back out.
But neither do.
So he offers her his hand, which she gladly takes before hopping off the counter and following closely behind him.  Through the thinning crowd in the living room, and then up the stairs.
When they’re in the hall, he casts a look over his shoulder to her, and her eyes meet his instantly.
There’s something serious in them that he’s never seen in her before.  Like she was trying to tell him something, but he couldn’t put his finger on what it is.
Her free hand grabs onto the sleeve of his jacket, tethering herself to him.  There was nowhere to get lost up here, everyone was downstairs.  Except for the boy passed out in the bathtub, and Richie was fairly certain a couple passed out in his parent’s bedroom.  But right now, they were alone.
He brings her to his room, carefully peeking in to make sure no one was in there, before letting her inside.  He’s quick to shut and lock the door.
(y/n) gives him a look at the sound of the lock clicking, and his face flushes.
“I mean- it’d be weird if some frisky couple were to come in- while we’re in here” He defends his actions.
She just hums, and wanders over to his dresser, where his fish tank sat.  She smiled at his goldfish before swirling the tip of her finger in the water.
Richie just admires her while she glances over his things.  The picture frames, the trinkets and forgotten things he’s left there.  She looks so natural standing there.
It wasn’t often that she was in his room, Richie’s house isn’t somewhere that everyone hangs out at, and (y/n) and Richie rarely hang out alone.  It was kind of nice to have so much time with her tonight, just her.  And still, he wanted it all the time.
She can feel his eyes on her, and when she turns around, she isn’t surprised that she was right.
She gives him a small smile, and clasps her hands together behind her back.  It was a nervous habit she had, squeezing her hands together tightly, and Richie loved seeing her do it now.
“It’s been a while since I’ve been in here,” She says, desperately trying to fill the silence.  “Hasn’t changed much though” She added in a quieter voice.
He doesn’t say anything, and it only amps up her nerves.
And then he strides over to her, rather quickly, and her breath caught in her throat as he’s suddenly towering over her, face a mere few inches away from hers.
She’s frozen, staring at him wide eyed and waiting for him to do something.
She’d thought he was going to kiss her, and when he didn’t, hear heart only beat harder in her chest.
“What?” She asks, wondering what he was doing if he wasn’t going to make a move.
“Nothing” He shakes his head, and her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“What are you doing then?” She questions him again, voice a hundred times softer.
He gives her a playful smirk, and she almost frowns at him, annoyed by the teasing.
“I’m not doing anything” He hums with a shrug.
She rolls her eyes, done with the games, and steps away.  She needs a breath.  Or two.  Two very deep breaths.
But before she can, Richie’s hand shoots out and grabs her wrist, pulling her back so rough that she collides into his chest, making them both stagger for a brief moment, until his lips crash down into hers.
She’s just gotten her balance back when he pulls away, staring at her expectantly, waiting for her to tell him to stop.
Her lips are parted and she’s panting softly, still in shock, and her eyes flutter open to meet his.
She doesn’t tell him to stop, instead, she leans up on the tips of her toes to kiss him again, a much longer kiss that she wished he’d begun with.
They pulled away at the same time.
“We can’t tell the others!” They both rush out the words so fast, so panicked, but it disappears as they register the other agrees.
And then all at once they’re kissing again.  His hands are gripping her hips, keeping her pressed completely against him, while hers are tangled in his hair, combing and gripping at his strands of curls.
Their lips move so feverishly, both desperate for every second to be fulfilling.  They knew this was a once in a lifetime chance, that this was their only chance, and it had to be perfect.
They part for a few seconds, so (y/n) can catch her breath.
His nose prods against hers, before he takes her cin between his thumb and forefinger, turning her head to the side so that he can trail a line of kisses along her jaw, tracing up to the sweet spot just below her ear.
He bit the soft skin, because he couldn’t help himself.  She gasped softly, and then giggled at the delightful and ticklish feeling of his mouth against the spot.  Her hands tighten a bit in his hair.
Eventually, once he’s left a decent purple mark on her neck, she tugs on his hair, pulling his lips back to hers needily.  She’s delicate as she glides over the seam of his lips with her tongue.  Richie isn’t so sweet as he gladly tangles his own tongue with hers.
When she’s the one to win the battle for dominance, she smirks against his lips.  But Richie’s quick to retaliate, turning her suddenly, and pushing her backwards until she runs into the wall.
Her lips detach from his as she grunts at the surprise contact, and her eyes shoot up to his out of annoyance.
“Jesus, fucking watch it” She mutters.
She grabs the collar of his jacket and yanks his lips back down to hers anyways, already craving more contact.
Kissing Richie Tozier is exactly as she expected, or more accurately dreamed, it would be.  Bliss.  Passionate.  Hot.
She hastily shoves his jacket down his shoulders, and then practically clawed the sleeves off of his arms.  As soon as it was discarded, his hands slammed into the wall on either side of her head, caging her in.  She loves it.
She wonders if he’s really gotten her addicted to his lips in a matter of two minutes.
After a few more kisses, she confirms that he has.
Her arms wrap around his neck and she can’t hold back a smile.
They part for a moment, and then rush to his bed.
(y/n’s) giggling as Richie crawls over her, one hand caressing her cheek while the other is pinned to the bed as not to crush her.  His thumb brushed over her cheekbone sweetly.
“You’re sure?” He asks, suddenly worried that he was rushing her.
But she nods, excitedly, and pulls his face down so she can kiss him again.
“But like-” Richie pulls away.  “You’re sure you’re sure? Like absolutely positive?”
“Richie,” She laughs, shaking her head a bit.  “Yes”
And that’s how it happened. ___
[ but i guess that’s love, i can’t pretend… i can’t pretend... ]
(y/n) had known Richie pretty much her whole life.  And they’d always gotten along, despite his big mouth and his tendency to say the wrong thing at the wrong time.  She found it endearing that he would call her hot stuff and then his face would go bright red, knowing he’d made a mistake.
But the thing was, that changed the day after they’d hooked up.  They were still friends, they still hung out, and it wasn’t necessarily awkward, but it was different.  He didn’t call her cute names anymore, not even sweetheart.  He stuck solely to his nickname for her.
She wasn’t sure if it was because of their incident, or because she was seeing someone.  It often felt like she was walking on eggshells around him, unsure of what to say or do.  It was like as soon as they’d crossed the line between friends and more than friends, she wasn’t sure how to go back to being just friends.
And she hadn’t ever thought of Richie as boyfriend material.  Even when they’d hooked up, she hadn’t considered the idea of being with him romantically.  Sure, he was attractive and funny and… charismatic, exciting, and somehow tender at the same time-”
“Babe..? Babe?”
(y/n) snapped back to reality, spinning around to see her boyfriend standing behind her.  He gave a short laugh before nodding to the dish in her hand that she must have been scrubbing for a few minutes now.
“Daydreaming?” He asks, while she bashfully set the very clean plate on the counter.
“Something like that” She replied, and went on to cleaning the next dish.
They’d had a nice dinner, one they both prepared.  She thought it would be fun to cook with him, maybe they would even listen to music and dance around the tiled floor.  But her boyfriend wasn’t that kind of guy, and this wasn’t a romantic comedy.
Richie would dance in the kitchen with me-
“So!” (y/n) spoke, a little too loud as she tried to rid her own thoughts from her head.  “Movie?”
Her boyfriend grinned, and gave her a thumbs up before leaving the kitchen and heading to the living room to pick out a good movie for them to watch.
(y/n) went back to distracting herself with doing the dishes.  But her pesky thoughts kept on getting in the way of her task.
Thinking of Richie in a romantic light made her feel dazed.  He was Richie.  Trashmouth Tozier, the boy she grew up with that was infamous for trying to ride his bike off the cliffside at the quarry.  He wasn’t someone you had a crush on, he was someone you always had a dumb story about.
But besides that, it simply wasn’t fair of her to think of him this way.  They had both agreed that what they had was a one time thing, and it didn’t mean anything to either of them.  They were just friends, and that was all either of them wanted to be.
At least, that’s what she’d always told herself.
But when she thought back on last summer, all she could remember was how badly she wanted him to kiss her that whole night.  And when he finally had… it felt like she was flying.
Drying the last dish, she left it on the counter, and forced herself to relax on the couch with her boyfriend.
Whatever movie he’d picked, she’d never heard of, and it only took seven minutes of watching it for her to realize why.  It was boring.
She was so damn near close to passing out, even though he seemed excited to share it with her.
“Hey,” She hummed after half an hour of forcing herself to stay awake.  He hummed in response, but didn’t look away from the television.
So she took matters into her own hands, and turned his head so she could kiss him.
She poured all of the passion that she could into the kiss, hoping to convey that she wanted him, and she wanted him now.
But how could she do such a thing when it wasn’t true? She simply wasn’t convincing enough.  Not to him, or herself.
Defeated, she pulled away from him, and by the look on his face, she knew that he sensed her disappointment.  Which was ironic, because he had never been in sync with her emotions in the last four and a half months they’d been together.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
There was a deep frown on her face, and her eyes were so apologetic that he just knew what was coming next.
“I’m sorry” She mumbled out.
“(y/n)...?” He was hoping that by some miracle she wasn’t about to break up with him.
“I can’t do this anymore” She finished weakly, voice cracking a bit as her throat burned with tears.
“What do you mean?” He asked.  “What’s wrong? What happened?”
She didn’t say anything, just shut her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose, trying to keep herself from crying.  It would be pathetic if she broke up with him and she was the one to cry about it.
“Whatever it is I can work on it, we can fix it-”
“No, you can’t-”
“Yes I can-”
“You can’t fix this!” She shouted, not meaning to come off as angry, but her emotions had flustered her and it was making her frustrated.  “Because there’s nothing to fix, there’s nothing here” She clarified, her hands flying between them.
“What do you mean there’s nothing here?” He asked, sounding broken.  For a moment, she felt bad for saying something so cruel.  “Is there someone else?”
And then her guilt disappeared.
“What? Of course not-”
“Well there- there has to be!”
“Well there isn’t!” She shouted back.  “Jesus Christ, don’t make this more difficult than it has to be,” She rolled her eyes.  “I don’t feel anything, anything, for you! I thought with time that I could learn to love you, but I haven’t.  There’s no spark-”
He seized forward, taking her face in his hands and kissing her frantically.
But just as soon as his mouth crushed over hers, she shoved his shoulders with all the force she could muster, and leapt off of the sofa.
She was stunned to silence at first, surprised that he’d done something so dramatic and… disgusting.
“I’m done,” She said, heading for the door, and putting on her shoes and coat with lightning speed.  “Don’t fucking call me- don’t talk to me at school, I’m done”
He tried to call after her, but she slammed the door behind her as she stormed out, and ran down the sidewalk, just in case he had the idiotic idea to chase after her.
She slowed at the end of the block, mentally striking herself upside the head at the thought.  Of course he wouldn't chase after her.  It would be an act of passion for him to pursue her, and he would be in denial to think he was any more in love with her than she was with him.
It dawned on her that she’d been in denial for the past four months for thinking she could learn to love him.  You can’t learn to love anybody, it has to come naturally.  And there wasn’t one natural thing about their relationship.
She wrapped her arms around herself to keep warm in the chilly december air, and walked the rest of the way home.  She’d had enough of today, and just wanted to crawl into bed, and try not to cry. ___
When the doorbell rang, Richie ignored it.  Surely his parents would get it, and he could stay in bed.
When it rang again, he shoved his pillow over his head.
It wasn’t until the third time the sound rang that he remembered his parents were at an event in Augusta tonight.
So with a groan, and the realization that whoever it was, wasn’t going to go away, he dragged himself out of bed, and down the stairs.
It was almost midnight, who the fuck was a the door? He decided if it was some freshman ding-dong ditching him, that he’d run them down and ruin their shit.
When he whipped open the door, he also opened his can of whoop ass on the unsuspecting freshman.
“Do you realize that it’s the middle of the fucking ni-”
He shut up real fast when he realized it was (y/n) standing there, who now looked incredibly taken off guard to have been greeted so harshly.
“(y/n)?”
It was only then that he realized she was crying softly.
“Oh- oh my god, I’m sorry-  I thought you were-”
“It’s fine” She said, and then sniffled quietly.
“What- what are you-”
“I’m sorry, it’s not r-right of me to show up in the middle of the night,” She whimpered a little bit, and wiped her sleeve over her cheeks to get rid of her tears.  “I should go home-”
“No,” Richie reached out, taking her wrist and tugging her inside.  “Come in, stay” He rushed the words out while shutting the door, not wanting her to leave, and especially not like this.
She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to stop her own shivering.  She didn’t even want to look at Richie while crying, but at the same time-
“So what’s going on-?”
Before he could even finish talking, she threw her arms around him and buried her face in his shoulder.
Richie stumbled a bit from the sudden force of her hug, but wrapped his arms around her nonetheless and hugged her tightly.
It was obvious that she was trying to stop crying in front of him, but she just couldn’t help it.
“Did something happen?” He asked, but received no answer.  “Are you hurt?”
He could feel her tears seeping into the fabric of his tee shirt.
“Hey, sweetheart,” He called softly, and pulled her away to look at her.  She kept her eyes shut, which made him chuckle, but eventually she looked up at him.  “Come on, (y/n/n),” He hummed.  “Talk to me”
She took in a deep breath, and Richie mentally prepared himself for whatever was going to come next.  It must be serious if she came to him instead of Beverly, or Eddie.
“I couldn’t have sex with him” She murmured.
Richie’s eyebrows shot up in surprise, and confusion, and a feeling he wasn’t quite sure of.  He never would have guessed that’s what had her so distraught.
“Um…”
“I know,” (y/n) cried out, tears streaming down her cheeks again.  “It’s pathetic, I’m so pathetic!”
“(y/n),” Richie said, setting his hands on her shoulders so she would calm down.  “You’re not- where is this coming from? Why are you so upset about this?”
It took her a minute to catch her breath, and her tears hadn’t really stopped flooding, but at least she could speak again.
“I broke up with him” She admitted.
Richie’s eyes widened, and again, she’d done what he’d least expected.  Her eyes were darting between his, trying to figure out what he was thinking.  But he looked so shocked, she couldn’t tell.
“Do you think I made a mistake?” She asked in a murur, her hands resting against his chest, and her body gravitating towards his a bit more from the sensitive question.
“I…”
He was having a hard time maintaining eye contact with her, his brain moving far too fast and his train of thought going in too many different directions for him to comprehend what he even thought.
“You do, don’t you?” (y/n) asked defeatedly.  “I should’ve tried harder- maybe I could have loved him-?”
“What? (y/n), no, don’t think like that,” He scolded her gently.  “If you didn’t feel anything, then that’s it, that’s the end, it didn’t work”
She stares down at her feet.
“(y/n)...” Richie sighed, lifting her chin softly with his hand.  “Did you even like him?”
She shrugged her shoulders, which was answer enough.
“Oh, (y/n),” His thumb stroked gently against her jaw, before he wrapped his arms around her and hugged her again.  “If you didn’t like him there was never even a chance of you falling in love- that’s just not how it works sweetheart”
(y/n) grabbed the back of his shirt in her fists, just wanting to hold onto him for a few moments longer.
“How’s it work?” She mumbled into his shoulder after embracing for a few moments.
“Well first of all, you don’t learn to do it, it just happens,” He chuckles, and his hands begin to rhythmically rub her back.  “And you won’t find them boring.  That guy was a sack of fucking potatoes (y/n/n) I don’t know what you were doing with him-”
“Yeah yeah I get it,” She cut him off before he could go on.  “What else?” Her voice was so soft, so full of curiosity for where these kind words were coming from, that she just had to know what more Richie thought about the subject.
“Well…” He hummed, still rubbing her back as he thought.  “You typically enjoy their company, more than anyone else’s, even if you won’t admit it,” He was thinking out loud.  “And they’ll always be the prettiest thing in your eyes- even when they won’t stop crying all over you” He teased.
She glared up at him, and wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
“Come on, be real,” She said.  “He was nice, and cute, and he really liked me, why wasn’t there a spark?”
He shook his head at her.
“Like I said.  Can’t learn to love someone, and you can’t force what isn’t there,” He shrugged.  “I’m sorry though.  You’re clearly bothered by it”
She wanted to explain that she wasn’t bothered by the breakup at all.  She was bothered by the mixup in her feelings.  By what she thought to be true- but wasn’t quite sure yet.
“You want tea? Or something?” He offered after she hadn’t spoken for a few beats.
“No,” She shook her head, and then stepped back from him.  “A blanket would be nice though? I had to walk the whole way here and it’s freezing”
Richie chuckled, and nodded.
“‘I’ll get one from upstairs.  Be right back”
He headed off rather quickly, taking the steps two at a time to get a blanket from his room.
The one time she’d stayed overnight, she’d really liked one of his- and he’d know, because she hogged it, and he had to wake her up to get her to share.  So he figured that one would do fine.
At the sound of a soft knocking at his door frame, he turned to see (y/n) standing there.
Her eyes were wandering around his room, mapping it out like it was her first time here.  However, she hadn’t been here since…
He didn’t miss the blush on her cheeks when her gaze landed on his bed, the covers messed up from his attempts to sleep earlier.  And then finally, she looked at him.
“Oh,” She smiled, and walked into the room, taking the blanket from his hands.  “You remembered” She said with a small laugh as she wrapped it tightly around herself.
It was still a little bit warmed, and smelled so distinctly like Richie, it made her want to melt into it.  And she nearly did for a moment.
“Well how could I you almost made me freeze to death that night”  He muttered teasingly.
“Fuck off, I did not” She played back, but her voice was much gentler than his.
He gave her a look as if to say ‘you did though’, which she only rolled her eyes to.
Deciding it’d be best to ignore him, she walked over to his dresser to excitedly play with his fish.  It didn’t do much, but it did swim back and forth in front of her finger, which was amusing enough.
“You… want to watch a movie?” Richie asked.
He didn’t want her to leave, but he didn’t know how to offer her to stay the night either.
“Sure” She answered, and followed him downstairs.
Richie made her pick the movie, that way whatever they watched she wouldn’t lose interest in.
“What?” She’s asked when he tried to leave the room for popcorn.
“I said pick whatever you want so you actually watch it and enjoy it” Richie repeated himself, and was in the kitchen before he could see her face change expressions.
Her heart skipped a beat in her chest, and all she could do was stare at where he stood with his back to her.  She didn’t even bother looking at his DVD collection, and followed him into the kitchen.
“You want me to pick a movie I like?” She asked him.
Richie gave her a weird look over his shoulder as she set the timer on the microwave.
“What? Yeah” He answered.
“But you’ll hate it,” She said matter-of-factly.  “It’s a chick flick, it’s real cheesy, not even Eds would watch it with me”
“Okay?” Richie repeated.  “You setting me up to hate it?”
She stared at him skeptically, and Richie had a similar look on his face, but only because he was very confused.
“Just pick a movie, (y/n/n), anyone’s fine” He chuckled.
He pulled the bag of popcorn out of the mic when it beeped, and dumped it’s contents into a large bowl.  When he turned back around, (y/n) was still standing there.  His brows furrowed, and he popped a kernel into his mouth.
“Would you dance with me?” She asked him.
Her volume was so soft he almost didn’t catch what she’d said, but when he processed the words, he was sure he’d heard her wrong.
“What?”
“Would you dance with me?” She repeated, a bit more clearly.  “If I asked?”
“Is…. that what you want to do?” Richie spoke unsurely, trying to figure out what part of the breakup process ‘dancing’ would fall under.  He shoved more popcorn into his mouth.
“I just wanna know” She shrugged.
“I mean, sure, but then the popcorn would get cold, it’s only good when it’s-”
“Richie” She mumbled, and by some miracle he actually heard her, and stopped rambling.  He knows from the way she’s staring at him, and the sudden softness in her voice that something’s up.  He waits for her to continue, but she doesn’t.
“What?” He feels like he’s lost, because he really has no idea what’s going on with her tonight.  This breakup had really thrown her for a loop, he supposed
“Nothing” She shook her head, and before he could question her about her strange behavior, snatched the popcorn bowl and made a break for the living room.
When they got settled on the sofa and the movie (y/n) picked began to play.  They were sat side by side, the bowl of popcorn separating them.  She tucked her feet up underneath her in an attempt to be more comfortable, and kept on fussing with the blanket.  It was like no matter how many times she readjusted, she just couldn’t get settled.
Eventually, she sighed, and looked over at Richie.
Low and behold, he was completely wrapped up in the plot of the movie, and hadn’t noticed a thing.  (y/n) smiled at this, loving that he’d actually gotten into her lame romantic comedy.  She leaned her head back on the cushion as she admired him.  He was so serious when he was focused on something, his jaw set in place, eyes trained on the screen.  It was so cute how drawn into the movie he really was.
Something happened that made him laugh, and he turned to (y/n) to crack a joke about it, but whatever he was about to say was lost on him when he caught her eyes already locked on him.
“Would you do it again?” She asked, before he could think of anything to say.  He doesn’t have to ask her to clarify what she means, because he knows, he can tell by the way she’s studying him.  “Ever?” She adds in a mumble after he’s been quiet for just a beat too long.
“Well, that’s a trick question now isn’t it?” He chuckles, but she shakes her head.
“No,” She speaks softly, “It’s not, I’m just wondering,”
She’s looking up at him so innocently that he wonders what sparked this question.  Not that he hadn’t been thinking about it every minute of every day for the past four and a half months or so.  He just didn’t think it ever crossed her mind.  They had sworn to each other that it was a one time thing, no pesky strings or feelings attached.  And Richie had thought she’d stuck to that promise pretty well- mostly because not a week later she’d gotten asked out, and then she dated the guy for a while.
“There’s no wrong answer, Rich,” She giggles, a nervous little sound that was the result of her heart doing backflips in her chest.  “Really”
His eyes flicker between her impatient ones, testing to see if that were really true.
“Kind of” He says.
Her brows furrowed, signaling that there apparently was a wrong answer, and he’d said it.
“Kind of-?”
“Well, there’s a lot I’d do differently” He muses with a shrug of his shoulders, before she could get upset and ask him just what the hell ‘kind of’ means.
She angles her body a bit more towards his, waiting eagerly to hear what he has to say.  But he gives her a confused look.
“What would you do differently?” She asks.  She sounds restless, and Richie chuckles to himself.  “Come on, really”
“For starters, I wouldn’t have chosen to do it at my own houseparty.  Someone busted the coffee table you know, and I blame you for that-”
“What else?” She asks abruptly.
“Alright well,” Richie huffs, deciding there was no turning back now, because she was already more than eager to hear what he was thinking.  “Also probably should’ve been a little more sober, just a little,” She laughed quietly, but didn’t speak so that he’ll keep talking.  “And I would’ve grabbed an extra blanket, had I known you were a blanket hogger”
She laughs again, and this time he laughs with her.  It’s a sweet moment, for it being so vulnerable.
“And I would’ve made sure you didn’t go in the morning” He confesses, in the midst of their laughter.  (y/n’s) laughter stops instantaneously.
“What?” She murmurs, like she’d heard him wrong, because she must have heard him wrong.
“Yeah,” He shrugs.  “I wouldn’t have let you go”
She blinks, stunned.
“You wanted me to stay?” She asks, a sweet little whisper that was bound to make everything come crashing down.
“Of course I did,” Richie chuckles.  “I’d be an idiot to let you- I was an idiot to let you go.  I hated that feeling,”
She’s silent again, her lips parted as the more he explained himself, the more surprised she was.
“It felt like- like I’d made the biggest mistake of my life- and trust me sweetheart, sleeping with you was a miracle- but if I could do it over again I wish that I could’ve...um…”
She’s waiting, hanging on to every word he spoke.  She doesn’t realize that she’s leaning closer to him, too antsy to wait for him to find his voice.
“(y/n/n) if I’m being honest then I would’ve told you how I felt- about you- that night”
“How you felt about me?” She repeats in disbelief, and then sits upright on the couch, realizing they’re only a few inches away from one another.
Richie watches her as she takes the popcorn bowl and sets it to the side.  And then leans back in towards him again, giving him her undivided attention.
“And how did you feel about me?” She murmurs.
Her hands set on his wrists, grasping onto them softly as his hands reach out to wrap around her waist.
“How didn’t I feel- Jesus I liked you so much I lost my fucking mind when you wanted me too”
Once he’s holding her firmly, she lets go of his hands to rest her palms on his shoulders, tilting up towards him to be more at his height.  Even sat on the couch Richie practically towered over her.
“I didn’t know it was more to you than a quick fuck” She hums.  Her voice is too sweet to be saying something so filthy, and it makes him chuckle just a bit.
He couldn’t help but tug her hips forwards, small prod really, but she took the bait and swung her leg over his lap.
“There was nothing quick about it sweetheart,” He teases, and as she situates herself on his lap, he releases one of his hands from her waist to gently trail his fingers over her throat, until his hand settles against the side of her neck.  She’s blushing, but she’s smiling with anticipation.
He pulls her towards him a bit, and the tip of her nose presses against his cheek, her lips barely ghosting his.  When her eyes flickered shut, Richie smirks
“And you were never a quick fuck”
She leans in, wanting nothing more than to kiss him and never stop.  There was more electricity between them in this moment than she’d ever felt with her ex, and the realization made her feel like she was alive again.
Just as her moment of liberation is about to happen, the doorbell rings.
Richie brushes it off and cups her cheek, leaning in to kiss her anyways, but then his visitor started screaming.
“Richiieeee!” The distinct voice of Eddie Kaspbrack rings out from the other side of the door.  “Dude! Open up! I got some drama for you!”
Richie and (y/n) turn to look at each other, equally confused.
“Let’s just pretend he’s not there” Richie says, making her giggle as he finally tries to kiss her.
And then Eddie lets himself in.
“I’m coming in!” He announces, and shuts the door behind him.  “You’re not gonna believe this! (y/n) broke up with-”
It doesn’t surprise the couple on the couch when Eddie stops talking, and stares wide eyed and open mouthed.
“What the fuck is going on here!?” He’s screaming, which also isn’t a surprise, but it’s very upsetting.
(y/n) calmly slides off of Richie’s lap, and he lets go of his hold on her.
“Nothing” They say at the same time, unconvincingly.
“You were on his lap-” Eddie accuses.
“I-”
“You were kissing-!”
“No-?” Richie tries.
“You guys have been fucking this whole time!” He screeches.
“No!” Richie and (y/n) speak simultaneously again.
“Wait,” (y/n) walks over to Eddie.  “How did you know I broke up with-”
“He called me” Eddie shrugged.
“What?”
“Yeah, he was trying to call you, but you never picked up.  Clearly you weren’t home, because you were here, letting Richie get in your pants- jesus fuck (y/n) I thought you had better standards-”
“Stop it” (y/n) hissed, before frustratedly running her hands through her hair.
Richie shot up from the couch, walking over in hopes of convincing her to sit back down and relax again.  But she shrugged off his hand and continued to pace around between him and Eddie.
“Very uncool, dickwad” Richie muttered to Eddie, who gave him an exasperated look and flipped him off.
“Why’d you come here then?” (y/n) spoke up.
“Um… huh?” Eddie played stupid.
“Why’d you come here? If my ex called you looking for me, why’d you come to tell Richie the news?”
Eddie and Richie shared a look, only making the girl more confused.
“I- well I thought you’d be here, you know, for support-”
Eddie shut up when the girl narrowed her eyes in disbelief.  He was never a good liar, and (y/n) had a pretty good bullshit detector.
“This isn’t important,” Eddie shook his head.  “What’s important is that he’s heartbroken, and looking for y-”
“I don’t care,” (y/n) said with a humorless chuckle as she crossed her arms over her chest.  “I don’t fucking care! He’s the worst, and he’s insane to think that he was ever in love with me.  Had a real boring way of expressing it-”
“Uh, I’m not here to tell you to get back together with him” Eddie said before she could yell anymore.
“What are you here for, then?” (y/n) asked.
“I could ask you the same thing” Eddie shoots back, and smirks victoriously between the two.
Richie’s just standing there, knowing better than to open his mouth.  If he did, something bad would slip and he knew it, so he stared down at the ground.
(y/n) puckers her lips, casting a glance to Rich before back to Eddie.
“Well?” The asthmatic boy asks.  “What the fuck were you guys up to?”
“None of your business,” Richie says before (y/n) has the chance to say anything.  “You should go, Eds, I’ll call you tomorrow.  We’re busy”
“With what?” Eddie’s practically daring Richie to confess.
“We’re watching a movie, don’t make me fucking kick you out”
Eddie rolls his eyes, bored with the lack of drama, and then heads for the door.
As soon as he closes it, he whips it open again, pointing an accusatory finger at the pair left standing there, as if he’d caught them in the act.
“Go, Eds” They both say, with the utmost annoyance in their voices.
This time when he left, they both watched the door, as if waiting for him to jump back into the room again.  When it was clear he’d actually gone this time, (y/n) let out a sigh of relief.
She looked at Richie, and then back to the couch, where the movie, the popcorn bowl, and her blanket were left unattended.
“I should probably g-”
“You wanna stay the night?” Richie asked before she could finish her sentence, and her eyes shot up to his.
“Really?” She asked in disbelief.
Richie just nodded, and so she hesitantly nodded back.
“Okay” She agreed softly.
“I’ll find something for you to sleep in,” He told her.  “You can finish the movie if you want” And with that he headed up the stairs.
At this point, she was more confused than ever.  She had no idea where her and Richie stood now, the line between friendship and something… else… was so warped in her mind that she couldn’t tell how he felt anymore.
Richie came back down a few minutes later, finding her sat on the couch with the movie paused and the popcorn bowl in her lap.  He grinned as he handed her a long sleeved shirt and a pair of sweatpants that looked very soft.
After changing quickly in the bathroom, she concluded they were the coziest things she’d ever worn.  And Richie’s scent and laundry detergent lingered in them, making every inhale of breath she took be inviting.
When she came back out, Richie was on the couch, just waiting.  His back was turned to her, and she could tell he was drumming his hands on his legs, a frequently done nervous habit of his.
She stood there for a moment, too anxious to walk over and sit with him like nothing had happened in the last half hour.  Even though with everything that’s happened, her heart was beating a mile a minute with no end in sight.
Richie must’ve realized she was there, because he turned and made a face as if to ask why she was just standing there.
His expression softened though when his eyes landed on her figure.  She looked so goddamn cute in his clothes that were just a bit too big for her.  And by just a bit, I mean the sleeves kept falling over her hands and the waistband of the sweatpants had probably been rolled three times to keep the fabric from barely touching the ground.
He thought he was gonna have a stroke.
“You gonna come sit, sweetheart?” He finally spoke, “Or just stand there and look pretty all night?”
She laughs, and the tension in the room thins out a little as she makes her way over to sit with him again.  Richie plays the movie again, and just like before, gets sucked right into it.
(y/n) sort of watches it, but has little attachment to what’s going on.  Her mind is too busy processing everything, there was no capacity to keep an eye on a film as well.
The popcorn bowl is empty, so she can’t distract herself with eating.  And she’s already tapping her fingers on her knee to a made up beat in her mind.  How Richie is able to actually watch this movie right now is beyond her.
“(y/n)?” He asks, and she realizes he’s been staring at her for a while, trying to get her attention.  She hums in response.  “Do you want me to shut off the movie?”
Her eyes are wide as they meet his.
“W-why?” She stammers out.
“Because you aren’t paying attention at all,” He chuckles.  “Are you tired? It is like… one in the morning”
“Uh- yeah, I-I guess” She stumbles over her words again, and balls up the fabric of her blanket in her hands.
He gives her a dorky little smile, and then stands to turn off the tv.  She watches him grab the empty bowl before leaving the room.
She gets up to follow him into the kitchen, but he waved her off.
“You should go up to bed,” He says.  “I’ll finish up down here”
She doesn’t know what else to say, so she follows the instructions.
It dawns on her that she hasn’t told her parents that she won’t be coming home tonight, but as she gets situated in Richie’s bed with her new favorite blanket, she just can’t seem to care.  She decides a lecture when she comes home tomorrow is worth it.
She’s under all the covers, and her face is buried deep into a pillow when Richie finally comes up.  He smirks at how settled she’s already gotten.
“You sleeping already?” He asks quietly, and her eyes open to smile at him.
“No, ‘m waiting” She hums, before snuggling her face back into her pillow.
“Waiting?” He asks, and walks closer to hear her better.
“Mhm”
“For… Santa?”
“For you, dummy,” She giggles softly, and then makes a grabby hand towards him.  “Hurry up”
He laughs, and shakes his head at her, before kneeling onto the bed.
“I kinda thought I should sleep on the-”
“In here,” She whispers, hand finding his wrist and latching onto it.  “With me, please” She adds in a much softer voice, like she’s embarrassed to ask, and he knows that she is.
“Okay…” Richie hesitantly gets under the covers.  “As long as that doesn’t bother you”
“It didn’t before” She replies casually.
Her eyes are closed, but he smiles warmly at the comment.  He thinks she’s falling asleep, but he was wrong, because her hand trailed from his wrist so that her fingertips were pressed into his palm.
“Richie?” She calls quietly.
He hums.
Her eyes open, and she squirms a little closer to him, finding comfort in the heat he radiated.
Her fingers slot into the spaces between his perfectly, and she grasps his hand tight.
“You weren’t a quick fuck for me either,” She admits gently.
He can see in her eyes that she’s uncertain, that she’s nervous to say anything, so he squeezes her hand to reassure her that she can tell him anything.
“And I wanted you long before that night, I just… um…” She licks her lips anxiously before continuing.  “I didn’t think that you uh… actually wanted me, you know, like, more than…” She doesn’t finish her thought, but she doesn’t have to.
Richie gives her a smile, and then reaches his free hand out to brush his knuckles over her cheek.  She smiles back at the comforting touch.
“You’ll stay in the morning?” He whispers, and she nods, brows drawn together as her smile widens.  “Good” He breathes out in relief.
They lean in simultaneously, and their lips touch in a soft and sweet kiss.  (y/n) relishes in how her lips seemed to have his committed to memory, and she melts against him once again.
She pushes forward so that her body is flush against his, and her free hand is holding his shirt in a fist.  She’s filled with more love and lust and happiness that a girl can be, practically overflowing with it, even.
Richie pulls away too soon for her liking, tucking a strand of her hair back behind her ear tenderly before meeting her gaze.
“If anyone asks,” He tells her, “That was our first kiss”
(y/n) giggles, and nods her head before kissing him sweetly again.
“Okay” She agrees.
His fingers comb through her hair for a few moments, and he contemplates laying here, like this, with her, for the rest of his life.  The quiet moment is so serene, so perfect, that he can’t imagine ever being happier than he is right now.
(y/n) whispers something, but it’s so soft that he only catches her lips moving.
“What?” He muses, and instantly there’s a pink blush blooming across her cheeks.  “What?” He asks again, this time chuckling at her bashfulness.
“I love you…” She murmurs, only darkening her blush.
Richie pulls her into his chest, wrapping her up in his arms as he cradles her close for the night.
“I love you too, sweetheart,” He responds with a kiss to the top of her head.  “Let’s do it right this time, okay?”
“M’kay” She hums back delightedly, already beginning to fall asleep in his arms.
It took months of agony and confusion to get here, but it couldn’t be clearer now.  This is what love was supposed to feel like.  She hadn’t learned to love before because that’s simply not how it works.  Her heart already belonged to someone else, and she hardly even knew it.  But now, it and she were all his, and he’d take good care of them.
[ i guess that’s love, i can’t pretend. ]
The conclusion to the VA/BL reread with Silver Shadows and Ruby Circle (here’s the post on FH, here’s the post on the VA closers SB and LS)
I think I forgot to emphasize this in the last post: it is bullshit that Adrian still had the Alchemist-paid-for apartment after the events of “TFH” and only becomes more unbelievable that Trey has it still in “SS”... I do not get it
Like with SB and LS, I would make a lot of plot changes in the adaptation.
Silver Shadows
Fun fact: her golden lily on this book cover actually flashes a little gold in the right lighting, and I love that
This one, especially the majority of Sydney’s stuff in the first half or so of the book, was much better than I remembered.
Adrian’s stuff had me far less forgiving. I realize he’s struggling with a fictionalized elevated form of bipolar disorder and he developed addictions in trying to self-medicate over most of his adolescence/early adulthood so far, but as far as his actions go... the part where he blackouts for something like three weeks while in Sydney’s chapters she’s so certain he’s going to rescue her... it really frustrates me. Especially because Richelle writes him as self-flagellating over it, but Sydney immediately reassures him “oh, no, I just got the gas turned off, you couldn’t have really done anything...” as if those three or so days weren’t a big deal with the way the time crunch worked out later... it’s one of those heavy-handed things where I don’t feel like Richelle ever actually makes Adrian own up to his errors in the same way the rest of the main characters have to. Including: Wesley Drozdov and his motley crew show up again, and Adrian plays big hero and outs their dabbling attempt on Sydney, and then with Keith later on thinks to himself “at least I’d taken no for an answer from girls” as if he hadn’t insistently pursued both Rose and Sydney (including the scene at Alicia’s Victorian inn in IS) and been revealed to have dabbled at least once. Like, good that he’s trying to make up for past behavior, but again and again it comes off to me as glib or insincere (in the way it’s written- that he’s some model that is exempt from causing harm). This especially pisses me off in the way he treats his mom for sticking in a loveless marriage to his dad (did Adrian forget about his mom’s affair with Ambrose btw?) for financial security, and even with the hypocrisy being pointed out to him and him begrudgingly admitting it in his mind, or he drags Nina to Sonya’s to try and get her compensated for her work and she’s all googly eyes at him, but his acts of chivalry feel empty. And this extends to Marcus, too, to a lesser extent. Look, I love Carly (all the Sage sisters mean the world to me) and I’m glad that she became an advocate for fellow survivors and I get what Richelle was trying to do in empowering survivors with Carly’s character, but Marcus’ star-struck admiration of her (being made speechless by her strength) felt weird and make me uncomfortable.
On to Sydney’s stuff, holy hell her side of the story is dark. And this conversion therapy nonsense in it is part of why I desperately want canon queer leads in the adaptation (preferably Sydney herself, which would yes mean Adrian and probably Rose... that’s my prerogative). Is that potentially triggering? YES. But Richelle took that step when she laid it on so thick with the allegory. In the meantime, I love the supporting characters that Richelle drew up to be in the center with Sydney. Emma, Duncan, and the rest (the fellow detainees- not Sheridan... she can burn) and I want more of them (seriously, Richelle made some great underexplored groups with the Unpromised, the Keepers, the Merry Men, and then these additional Rebelchemists). There is a weird mention of Sydney having arranged some supply closets on one of the floors, despite whatever scene she did that in seemingly having been cut (there was also a line Rose ascribed to Victor at the end of Last Sacrifice about sending Jill away, so it’s not unheard of). When I first read the book (with a long break before), the degree to which Sydney was using magic in there felt illogical, but rereading directly from the other books, it is more justifiable. I think the Detainment, and Sydney’s struggles there, is some of the best writing Richelle managed in the books, and I don’t have any changes to that part.
But the escape... is actively worse than I remember it. There are glimmers of some great stuff in there- I mentioned in the last post how much I love when Sydney wakes up Hopper and sobs over him, and that still is powerful. But omfg Sydney (and Adrian) hold up the stupid stick so many times in these chapters. To be clear, first-off: Adrian should have gotten blood before they ever went into the desert. In the worst case, he and Eddie (the night before the infiltration) should have gone off to the side and done a feeding (doesn’t have to be Eddie, since I imagine he actually has a bad reaction to them since FB, but it does have to be someone willing). Eddie would have enough time to recover, especially with adequate food. Setting that aside, the actual events of the escape work for me. So I guess it’s more the after. Sydney and Adrian should have driven straight to Las Vegas (if they wanted to stop in the other town and change clothes and switch cars that’s fine with me- I even like the senior citizen tour they were on; p.s. we never learn if the Ivashkinator was shipped back to Palm Springs or anything, which is very surprising to me). Their decision to stay in a hotel overnight, even as much as Sydney did deserve that kind of relaxation, was stupid beyond belief. I would have preferred they got to Vegas, were spotted by Alchemists but made it to the Witching Hour without issue, and then Adrian got them a room, and that was the point where Sydney relaxed and slept. Consolidate some of that. Let Sydney have her luxury bath, and a haircut from Adrian, and other stuff there. Let her mention to him that the first photo she saw of him was taken near there, and hey, did he know Rose had bought a car in Russia that Sydney loved. And when Adrian goes down to make some money to further their escape, that’s when he realizes they’re being watched- there are too many yellow and orange auras. Let them have a less exorbitant wedding than in the book- no ridiculous mermaid dress that Sydney can’t expect to move in and that is ridiculously expensive (she can still have a beautiful stunning white dress). Let her start with the blue sneakers. Let Adrian find a place to get the ring made, if that’s necessary (or just use the dang cufflinks as are for the time being and pin them to the fancy attire). And Jill sends the chopper directly to the Firenze for an “Italian” wedding. They can still have the showdown with Sheridan on the roof- just simplify everything.
And then when they get to Court- let Sydney do more of the talking. Let her (righteously) call out the conditions in the reconditioning- the torture because she showed empathy to Renee who couldn’t even eat on her own, the torture they inflicted on Emma to break her- she didn’t betray her own kind, the Alchemists are repeatedly betraying their own kind, pushing them into the darkness of an empty hole. Oh, and this necklace around her neck, that Sheridan took for her own before Sydney reclaimed it, the morning glories were painted by the man she loves. And she rejects the Alcehmists having any authority on her. She’s a witch of the Stelle coven; she’s Sydney Sage Ivaskhov damnit. And when her dad tells her that if she doesn’t come with them, these will be the last words she ever gets to say to him? She gets to ask him if he knew what happened to Carly, if he let it happen under his own roof because he wanted a son like Keith more than the daughters he was blessed with. I want Sydney arguing her case, having her real communion. I said the same for Rose and Spirit Bound, and Sydney deserves the same here.
p.s. there are a lot of structural parallels between this book and BP/early SB- Sydney’s reeducation being like Rose’s time in Novosibirsk, the Tasarov escape from SB (which Eddie directly mentions) immediately followed up with a Vegas trip
Ruby Circle
Dang it. Look, I no longer hate the idea of Sydney and Adrian raising a kid. Their ending in RC was a lot better built-up (and a lot less bitter for Sydney) than I thought the first time. But the road to get there...
I hate the Jill being kidnapped by Alicia part (and I don’t buy the Warriors working with her). Honestly, just let them deal with Alicia during the events of Fiery Heart (when next to nothing else is going on). Like, Adrian and Sydney come off really badly in my head for “causing” her kidnapping because of a personal vendetta against them, when they came there to protect her in the first place (I realize the actual fault was with Alicia, but the feeling stands). Also the pointless scavenger hunt leading them from Pennsylvania (so conveniently, even though Alicia would have had to go there to set her traps after abducting Jill in the first place?) a month after the fact to whatever castle (then to Michigan) then to Palm Springs and the infiltrating the Warriors mission... it’s all too much (also I refuse to believe Sydney cast those stinging demons... that’s so dangerous I can’t even). Given the introduction of the Stelle in FH, and the unnecessary Malachi stuff, it works better to do that all then anyways. (I still want Jackie involved somehow of course) Instead of sidelining Angeline at Amberwood, she should get to be involved in the hunt for Jill (same as Eddie was for Sydney).
In other parts... Wesley Drozdov was never a good character. I really didn’t need even a mention of him in this book. I also... don’t buy how stigmatized Adrian was for marrying Sydney. I can see it being a scandal, or a laughingstock, the source of snarky asides and derision, but Richelle never built it in VA or the earlier BL books to being as heinous as she then tried to make it (so that Adrian could feel suffocated by Court, just like Sydney). I would have been much more interested in trying to see Sydney blend in, and take a stand in the Moroi world (and seeing her try to ally with nonroyal Moroi, but that also still not going super smoothly because they don’t like being on the same level as a human), and maybe her trying out her magic with the Moroi fighters that Mia and Christian had formed (that beautiful, blessed little moment), and then if it integrating there didn’t work admitting that it just... wasn’t going to. Rather than not even trying.
I understand that Richelle was building up with Adrian’s fears of completely losing it with Nina, but she just got screwed over in both of these books. (We’re acknowledging that it was wrong of her to kiss him in SS when he wasn’t even conscious, and moving on). And then Olive got screwed. And Neil got screwed. I said before that I don’t mind Sydney and Adrian raising a kid. But I mind a whole heck of a lot that Richelle killed (essentially) Nina and Olive both (in bullshit, tragic ways) and then wrote Neil off so that Sydney and Adrian would have to raise a baby. Let Sydney be pregnant. Let her be recovering from the most traumatic event of her life, she and Adrian forewent protection on their hectic honeymoon/escape, she’s going to be a mom to a Dhamphir and wow that’s going to be weird for her... and meanwhile this allows her to get through to Olive. To promise Olive and Neil that Sonya and everyone else will not use their baby as a test tube. Nina can still go up to the brink (maybe she passes it and the spirit trio of Lissa, Sonya, and Adrian have to heal her), there can still be a Strigoi attack at the Refuge in northern Michigan, but ffs cut the crap treatment of those three to pass on a readymade kid to Sydrian. It is a trope that I loathe. I also dislike the “ohmigod” fangirl characterization of Mallory, and while the Rand stuff was better than I remembered (that is to say, he is terrible and everyone acknowledges that and no one makes light of it the way I misremembered), I could do without it (especially since I’d prefer that if they keep Dimitri and Adrian cousins, they addres it much earlier).
Honestly, I would do the following:
the start of the season for RC (which doesn’t match its name??) has Sydney and Adrian locked down at Court and they can’t help like they want to, so they try to adapt and do what they can there, including Adrian trying to get Nina to calm down; their friends from Palm Springs and Marcus team up altogether and get an infiltration squad with the Warriors of Light; Eddie gets to participate; they rescue Jill, and get some of the data on the Alchemist/ Warrior collaboration
the Moroi Court finally gets into action on the age and family laws in earnest; meanwhile, Sydney is helping carve out a niche for the rebel Alchemists to work with the Moroi, especially for Strigoi hunting groups like what Mia and Christian wanted to organize; Jill and Sydney are helping each other emotionally recover from their respective hostage ordeals; Sydney realizes she’s pregnant, which helps Adrian realize in a dream with Olive that she’s pregnant, and finally sees her location marker
it’s “rescuing” Olive time; Neil gets to go too- with his presence, things don’t all go to shit; there is a Strigoi attack in retaliation for the new hunting groups, but heroes persevere and protect the commune; the data on the Alchemist/Warrior collaboration, and the Rebelchemists work with the Moroi, gives the perfect leverage now to get the Rebelchemists their freedom and establish Sydrian’s future together
SO, after rereading Bloodlines
I dislike Sydrian less than I did, though I still think Adrian could be vastly improved if adapted as a woman
the second half gave Eddie more to do, but still not enough emotional focus on him
man Amberwood and its supporting characters disappeared; I get that Adrian isn’t likely to settle in California long term, but can I please get more resolution to those characters, whether it comes from more focus in IS, or a graduation ceremony or something?
Abe also disappeared which is strange
man, Sydrian have a lot of daddy issues. because their dads are both abusive jerks. but why oh why did Jared end up collaborating with the Warriors for tattoos? was it because of anger over ‘losing’ Sydney or just greed? I’m glad that Zoe and Sydney at least started to heal things, and that Zoe is ok where she is
we still never got answers on who restored Lee... Clarence only showed up for deus ex machina money and shelter and I guess blood (did Marcus ever get to speak to him again?)
minor grievance: Richelle described the Warrior recruits as being almost evenly distributed between men and women, with a slide toward men, before two pages later saying there were 30 potential guys and 13 potential ladies, and remembering that, oh, yeah, the Warriors didn’t really use women on the front line; I don’t want any of that subplot adapted I just... editing?
star gazing | stanley uris
warnings: I wrote this all at once at 3 a.m. and have not edited it, you’ve been warned, mentions of drinking, deep shit™, this is short
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *
saturday night. you’re at a party at bill’s house with all your friends and half your grade. richie (and eddie by force) are doing karaoke in his basement, ben and bev are playing a drinking game while sitting on the kitchen island, bill and mike are arguing over some classic lit novel from english class, and you and stanley are sat on the porch out back watching the stars. stan’s never really been one for getting shitfaced, which makes him the perfect dd, and you feel bad for leaving him out, so you’re sober too.
you’re pointing out different made up constellations to each other. so far, you’ve found groups of stars that look like a fish, a house, and (upon stan’s insistency) the moon. it’s quiet and mind-numbing compared to the shit show going on inside, but it’s a nice break from the stressful week of finals you’ve had. you’d forgotten the end of high school meant test after pointless test. you’re just a number to the system, really. richie loves pointing that out.
“do you think we’ll still be friends?” stan asks suddenly. you turn your head to him, but he continues to stare at the sky. “after school.”
you think for a moment. this isn’t the first time he’s asked this. he asked once before at the quarry in eighth grade, seemingly concerned even then that your too-good-to-be-true-bond would be ripped from you all the moment high school ended.
you don’t blame him for being worried. being surrounded constantly by a group of people you know have your back for anything... it’s enlightening, almost a high of some sort. nothing feels as good as deliriously laughing at richie’s british accent at 3 a.m. when the rest of the world is asleep and your smiles are etched into the night.
so yeah, you understand why he doesn’t wanna let it go.
“if we want to be,” you say finally. he turns his head to you now, his fingers twirling around each other on his stomach as he asks, “how do you figure?”
“well i think if we wanna stay friends badly enough, we can. my mom is still friends with some people she knew from high school, and i’ll bet my savings they didn’t have anything close to what we have.” you reach your arm out to him and he takes your hand in his own.
with your fingers intertwined between the two of you, you realize how close you are to him. stan is mere inches from you as you watch each other, his eyes twinkling as they scan your face. the moonlight is spilling over him like water from a broken glass, and you realize kinda for the first time that stan’s beautiful-
“you’re ethereal,” stan says suddenly. you’re taken back for a moment, blinking in surprise. you smile because that kinda made your heart swoon.
“thanks, stan,” you say, squeezing his hand. “right back at ya.”
he opens his mouth and looks as though he’s about to say something else, but shuts it again. then he’s leaning over and kissing you. it’s a quick, timid kiss, like one you might receive in kindergarten, and he pulls back almost immediately to see your reaction.
you just gape at him because stanley uris just kissed you?? the sweet kid who likes to watch the birds and offers to braid your hair. kissed you.
“i'm sorry,” stan starts. “i didn’t mean-”
you cut him off with another kiss, this one more intimate and intent driven. he’s responsive quick, and one of his hands flies to the back of your neck, the other still holding your own by your sides.
stan’s a better kisser than you’d imagined. he seems to know what he’s doing and he tastes like mint. his lips are slightly chapped meshing against your soft ones, and your stomach is doing flips as his fingers tangle in your hair.
when you pull back you’re both breathing a little heavily, and stan has a single curly strand of hair drooping in front of his face that you brush behind his ear with a gentle swoop of your hand. he smiles down at you, then, and you smile back, feeling a blush creep up on your cheeks and neck because no one has ever looked at you the way stan’s looking at you right now.
like you hung the stars just for him.
then bill’s opening his glass door that leads into the house and saying, “y/n, stan, good, will you please tell mike that gene and finny from a separate peace are gay for each other.”
mike stumbles up behind bill then, nearly knocking him over. “that’s just one lens to look at it through,” he says insistently. bill rolls his eyes.
“sexuality isn’t a lens-”
stan kisses you again suddenly, and you know why. you have the same feeling he does. this isn’t a kiss between you and him. it’s a kiss for the bond you all have, the love you share for one another. this special moment that really isn’t that special at all. in two years you probably won’t remember this specific party on this specific saturday night, but right now it’s happening and you think maybe, just maybe, if you kiss long enough the moment can be frozen forever between your lips.
stan doesn’t need to ask anymore whether you’ll be friends forever because even if you aren’t you had this. you had special, intimate moments together, and a bond that couldn’t be broken with the force of the sun, let alone growing up. and maybe forever doesn’t matter so much when now is enough to take your breath away.
and stan, looking down at you with a twinkle in his eyes and a loving smile that you know means this is more than tonight, well, that’s something you won’t ever forget.
Scar » four
Tumblr media
three // five
Pairing: Richie Tozier x Fem!Reader
Summary: Richie is upset you’re not spending the day with him while you find out that Beverly has a scar that’s eerily similar to yours.
Word Count: 2292
A/N: I didn’t really proofread, I just skimmed over this one... so I’m sorry if there are any mistakes
It had been a few weeks since you met the infamous group of kids. Although they had obvious chemistry, a force that held all of them together like glue, you felt like you fit in well. It was natural for you and Eddie to get closer since he spent so much time around Richie. He often helped you throw playful insults at Richie when he would lose. You were like partners in crime. You weren’t as invested as him when it came to health-related topics, but you began to get used to zoning out as he rants about diseases and viruses that were lingering in the air.
Beverly was also another obvious person that you would get along with. Girls weren’t the easiest to get along with most of the time, but you trusted Beverly. She told you about the other people in school, including Greta who she warned you to avoid at all costs. She also mentioned a group of boys that wreaked havoc around the town, but she said that you didn’t need to worry about them anymore, whatever that means.
Other than preparing you for when the school year starts, Beverly was a very welcoming person when it came to you. While the boys had their own conversation, Beverly was getting to know you. Eventually, she invited you to hang out without the guys, talking about a much-needed break away from the masculine front that they put on. You speedily took up her offer, telling Richie that you were taking a day off from your Street Fighter championships much to his dismay.
Richie couldn’t deny that he was upset that you ditched him to spend time with Beverly. He selfishly wanted you to spend all your time with him. Something about Eddie’s insults without yours made his stomach turn, almost like he could feel you were missing. Richie told himself that it was stupid being so affected by your absence. Heck, you had only been in Derry a few weeks, there was no way that you could affect him this much, right?
Eddie had seen it too. Richie was so upbeat in your presence, the playful insults that you threw at him were taken as compliments and only boosted his ego. Without you, Richie’s mood declined and receiving Eddie’s insults made him annoyed.
“You really want to spend the rest of your summer playing this stupid game?”
“Shut up Eddie,” Richie grumbled, not even making an attempt to comb the hair out of his face. He was putting all of his energy into the game in front of him, wanting the day to pass as fast as it could.
Eddie scoffed at Richie’s response, crossing his arms in front of his small frame. “What’s up with you? You were all happy-go-lucky yesterday but today you’re Mr. Debbie Downer.” Richie rolled his eyes and smashed his fingers into the buttons, the tips of them turning white from the pressure he was forcing on them. Eddie felt himself getting angry at Richie’s lack of response so he decided to just get to the point. “Is it because (Y/n) isn’t here?”
Richie’s finger slipped from the button out of shock. He didn’t expect Eddie to realize what was actually making him so upset. The slip up made Richie’s Street Fighter character unable to move away, taking a lethal blow from the NPC. “What the fuck Eddie?” Richie boomed, glaring at his hypochondriac friend.
Eddie just shook his head, not taking any of his friend’s anger stricken statements to heart. “Don’t even try to lie to me, Richie. I’ve been friends with you too long for you to even try to fib.”
Richie just decided not to answer, his face starting to heat up despite his attempts to hold it back. Eddie smirked at his victory and decided to take the chance to step further.
“Does the trashmouth have a crush?”
“Hell no,” Richie cried out, “What the fuck made you think that?”
“Call it a premonition,” Eddie shrugged, “But really, it’s pretty obvious.”
Richie’s lip curled in mock disgust, he was really trying to hide his feelings from truly showing. Although he didn’t really mind Eddie knowing his true feelings, his pride convinced him to put on a strong front. Digging his right foot into the ground, his mind began to wonder about you. He felt selfish, only focused on himself rather than what you wanted. “She’s probably focused on finding her soulmate anyway.”
Eddie’s eyebrows furrowed, beginning to feel bad for his friend. “How do you know you’re not soulmates.”
Richie deadpanned at Eddie, not believing how ludicrous he was being. “Maybe I should remind you that she swam half-naked with us at the quarry. I think I would know if she was my soulmate.”
Eddie couldn’t help but feel heavy-hearted when looking at his friend. He knew that Richie was trying his best to cover his sensitivity by putting on a strong front. Richie cared about you, yes, but he also felt like he was betraying his soulmate. He may act like he doesn’t care but these feelings that came hurling at him made him wonder more about the mark on his foot. It made him wonder about who his soulmate really was. Did they act like you? Did they look like you? Every time he would think about his soulmate, his thoughts would go back to you. He knew it was wrong, but he couldn’t stop himself. Stupid teenage love.
You tapped your foot as you waited in a little alleyway next to where Beverly said she’d meet you. You didn’t have much with you at all, just your bike and a little bit of money in case you two got hungry. Other than that, there really wasn’t much planned for your outing. You both planned to stroll the street and do some window shopping, gazing at items with no intention of actually buying anything. You also just planned to take a much-needed break from the arcade. Although it was very entertaining to play with Richie, you were beginning to feel suffocated by the dark room. Being in the same place doing the same thing every day got monotonous. Not to mention, you were beginning to run out of insults towards Richie and that could never happen. You needed to refill your insult jar as fast as you could. What better way to do that than to spend time with Bev?
Beverly rolled up next to you with red cheeks and heavy breaths. “Sorry I’m late,” She spoke, moving her bike to park right next to yours. “I hope you haven’t been waiting long.”
“No, I got here like two minutes ago,” You responded, shoulders relaxing at the presence of your friend.
“Great. You ready to go?”
The two of you started your journey down the street, eyes wandering into the windows of the different stores. “So,” Beverly started, the corner of her lip tilting upwards, “What’s going on between you and Richie?”
You squinted your eyes at her, “What do you mean?”
“I’m not stupid, (Y/n),” She replied, putting her hand on her hip, “You know what I’m talking about.”
Biting your lip, you averted your eyes from hers, trying to ignore the piercing gaze of her eyes. “It’s really nothing. We’ve just been getting closer, it’s pretty normal.”
Beverly hummed, tilting her head upwards at your statement. “What do you classify as normal?”
“What about you and Bill?” You quickly tried to change the subject. Although you avoided her questioning, you knew that Beverly was not going to forget about it.
“What about me and Bill?”
“I’m not stupid, Beverly,” You mimicked her, earning a small grin from your friend.
“Well, you know it’s been pretty awkward since-” She gave you a pointed look, instantly making your mind go back to when she told you about the last time that they kissed. “But he’s been really sweet. He even got me this.” Beverly held out her left hand, showing off the small bracelet that hugged her wrist. You smiled at the cute gift, happy that your friend was so excited over a gift. When she turned her hand over, your face immediately fell. Even though her fingers were slightly curled, you could clearly make out the dark line that was etched into her skin.
Your hand shot out to grab hers, stopping in the middle of the sidewalk as you studied the palm of her hand. The scar was so similar that it made your heart race, but your heart dropped when you realized that it wasn’t identical. In fact, her hand not only had a prominent scar in the middle but another lighter line behind it. It was like she had two scars but one of them belonged to her soulmate. They were muddled together.
Beverly was shocked from your sudden outburst, eyes wide as she watched you gaze intently at her scar.
“Where did you get that from?” You spoke, mouth feeling dry.
“The scar?” You nodded your head. “All of the losers have one.”
Your head started to spin as you frantically started searching for an answer. If all the losers had one, then there was a high possibility that one of them was your soulmate. However, you also couldn’t deny the possibility that all of them wouldn’t have a scar that matched yours.
Beverly watched you closely as you began to feel lightheaded, taken over by the shock that coursed your body. “Are you okay?” Beverly asked quietly, eyes darting around you to make sure no one was staring.
“Y-Yeah,” You choked out, recoiling your hands from hers, “It’s just- It looked really similar to mine.”
“Wait,” Beverly sputtered out, mouth dropping open slightly at your statement. “You have one?” You nodded your head and stuck out your left hand, showing the jagged mark that was engraved in your palm. “Holy shit, when did you get this?” Beverly gasped, cradling your hand in hers as she inspected the scar closely.
“It showed up a few days before I moved here. So, maybe a month?”
“Oh my god,” Beverly breathed as she stood in front of you, hand frozen as she thought about when the losers made the blood oath.
“When did you get the scar?” You asked so quietly that she might not have heard you.
A part of you didn’t want to know. You wanted to find out your soulmate randomly, not go searching for them like those crazy people you see in films all the time. A part of you wanted to have that moment where your soulmate accidentally knocks you down and offers their hand when suddenly you realize they're your soulmate. A part of you was terrified that if you found your soulmate this early in life, it wouldn’t work in the end. There had been many cases where soulmates got bored of each other or they didn’t want to be tied to a certain person so early in their life. You didn’t want to experience that.
“Around a month ago,” Beverly responded, gently letting go of your hand.
You took a deep breath, eyes beginning to tear up as you became overwhelmed with emotions. You were happy and upset at the same time; happy that you found something that leads you to your soulmate, but upset that it happened so soon.
“Do you know how great this is?” Beverly lit up, obviously not catching your horror-stricken face. “This means your soulmate could be one of the guys! You don’t have to go looking anywhere else-”
“Beverly!” You yelled, but instantly lowered your voice when you noticed how loud you were. “I don’t want to know. Don’t you realize how terrible this is?”
“What do you mean?” Beverly breathed, eyebrows furrowed as she shot you an incredulous look. “Several people our age know their soulmate already, it’s totally normal. I don’t see what the problem is.”
You shook your head, your teeth starting to dig into your bottom lip. “Do you think any of them want to be tied down to someone right now? We’re only teenagers! Besides, who says the people at school are going to stay with their soulmates forever? Plenty of people who met their soulmate early in life split up. You’ve seen the research: the later you meet your soulmate, the easier it is to stay together.”
Beverly’s excitement started to boil down as you ranted. She thought what you were saying was absolutely ridiculous. She would give anything to know who her soulmate was. She was cursed with not knowing who out of the group was considered her soulmate. Her own scar covered her lover’s and without being able to make out details, figuring out her soulmate is a complete waste. You have the opportunity that she doesn’t. You have the opportunity to find your soulmate and live happy with your other half, yet you’re too afraid to act on it.
“Do you realize how lucky you are?” Beverly scoffed, “You’re taking your soulmate mark for granted.”
You both stood in silence, not sure what to say to each other. Obviously you both had completely different viewpoints. Although Beverly was seriously opposed to your opinion, she knew that going behind your back was something she despised even more.
“If you really don’t want to know, I’m not going to force you to. I’m not going to search for you either, I just don’t think you’re making the right choice.”
You took deep breaths, successfully pulling yourself back together before you responded. “Thanks, Bev, that means a lot.”
She nodded, putting a smile back on her face as she started to walk again. “Let’s do some window shopping.”
