This Mandragora officinarum (common mandrake, devil's apple, devil's candle) plant was grown from seed and has a deep fleshy tap root. The perennial produces a rosette of dark green leaves which are flat on the ground and hiding the fruit which are the size of a large hen’s egg. This plant is part of the nightshade family and contains alkaloids that make it poisonous, so handle with care.

got to watch The Boy and the Heron as part of the film festival going on in chicago right now. I don't really think it had the strongest plot; there were a lot of parts that were just like. this is happening because the script says so, which tbh is fine for really high concept fantasy shit. the characters weren't really the strongest either. just about everything else about it I really loved

#i think the general consensus is that this is one of his weaker movies #which i agree with; there's a certain one-notedness to the vibe that is not as interesting as say nausicaa or spirited away

YOU ASKED THIS A WHILE AGO, I APOLOGIZE FOR THE WAIT--I wanted to have a more interesting answer than I did at the time and now I do!

I think I've been turning PtL!JGY, especially EARLY Jgy over in my mind for a while now, trying to pick apart the details that went on beyond [world is ending. Again], because it would feel pretty one note otherwise 😂 And likewise turning this ask idea over in my mind because my first reaction was 'his change is so so much slower, his aha moments take so much longer and he ignores them more, I don't know how interesting that would be', mostly for the above reason of one-notedness.

But now--and this is mostly just me musing to future self as a place to keep notes--dealing with his automatic people pleasing tendencies, as well as the Caregiving Fencing he does with Yanli. Literally they are both giving each other white-knuckled smiles being like "WHY WON'T YOU LET ME DISAPPEAR BEHIND YOU, WHY AREN'T YOU LETTING ME FILL YOUR EVERY NEED, THIS ISN'T HOW IT GOES 🙃🙃🙃"

And him just being confused at how different of Rich People the Jin and Jiang are.

hrmm... assuming you were inspired to send this after seeing a recent post i made, there wasn't anything that brought on that thought process other than someone having put this old post in my notes again the other day

i'm not very active with this blog anymore. if memory serves i started watching the simpsons back from the beginning in late 2019 and made this blog in early 2020, which is a long time ago already (remember, like, quarantine?). i had a strong hyperfixation on the show at the time and i used to post a LOT more, i'd post art, some of it incorporating headcanons i had for certain characters or original depictions of them, i'd post more thinkpieces whenever i'd want to psychoanalyze something for fun, and i DID used to have a lot to say about todd flanders

aside from posts i'd make like the one linked above i will never forget how heavily this particular episode really fed the fire of the idea that todd was destined for the potential to break free of his appointed one-notedness and eventually grow into this organic rebellion, i guess it got to me as something that felt so human, when someone is raised only ever being told certain things or trained to think in certain ways and as they get older they start to think for themselves and in many cases at least go through a phase where they desperately strive to adopt every ideology that contradicts those things they maybe now feel were harmful to their growth as a person, and maybe it's to spite a parent, or maybe it's to figure out who they wanna be, whatever it means to them in the moment they just HAVE to BREAK AWAY... it's a shared experience of so many people and it's sooo much fun to apply it to silly yellow cartoon child

if you've been following me since toddgate, which historically brought us such classics as the various psychoanalysis posts, emo todd, the whole tossica timeline (x, x, x, x), older bart hanging out with nelson and adoptive brother todd after rod goes away to college and they're some of the last og springfield kids still hanging around town (x, x, x, x, x) and so much more, i seriously love u and u earned that veteran discount

Uggggghhhhhh are you kidding meeeeeee the copyright infriging worms are gonna be actual reoccurring characters uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggghhhhhh.

Look, I don't mind the worms because they're a quicky species or offensively unoriginal. It's the fact that, what do the worms represent in Jon's life? They just seem to be a quirky addition to this comic for the sake of quirkiness. They've appeared only twice and I can already sense their one-notedness, their gimmickness if you will.

Now the worms would be more in place at a comic like Carnivores because that comic mostly seems to take place in a bizarre cartoon world where vore and gore is common. Like I can see them playing a similar role to the wolves from Lothan Arc. In autobiographical comic with comedy elements like this, the worms just feel out of place. I think Jon's mindset is we need to have quirky small animals running around because all newspaper comics have those, like the spiders from Garfield, like Woodstock's friends from Peanuts, like the...worms from U.S. Acres. I'm sure Calvin and Hobbes had little quirky things too but I haven't read that in ages so I don't remember.

It would be more interesting if they were treated as entities only those who have guardians can see, and they'd be in some sort of symbiosis with them like Fraggles and Doozers.
