what is and what should never be (remastered) |older!dilf!eddie munson x reader| II
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
prompt: you agree to go on a date with mr. munson- eddie.
part 2 of the older!eddie x reader series, remastered version lol!
contains: age gap (eddie is early forties, reader is late twenties early thirties, all consensual), language, drinking, smoking, p in v sex, oral (fem and male). mentions of divorce & eddie was previously married. 18+ minors DNI I'm so serious.
Your knee bounced underneath the table, freshly polished nails tapping against the faux-leather lined menu in your hand. You couldn’t will yourself to look over at Mr. Mun-
Eddie. You had to remind yourself, cheeks heating at the playful reminder he’d given you earlier.
“Mr. Munson? Makes me feel old, sweetheart.” He had teased you when he picked you up.
He’d held the door open for you and everything, a bundle of red roses in the passenger seat.  "Told you I was old school, sweet thing." Eddie purred, sending you a wink that made your thighs clench together, hoping he couldn’t see the way you’d squirmed in blistering heat under his gaze.
Eddie sat across from you, an envious kind of calm in his demeanor that you desperately hoped you could channel. He was so collected, a painstaking reminder of his seniority over you. It made your heart flutter and jump every time his eyes would meet yours, peek over the menu at you.
“So,” Eddie placed his menu down, breaking the silence that fell between the two of you. “Brielle tells me you went away for college?”
“Yeah,” You squeaked, swallowing your beating heart with a slight cringe. “I mean, yes, I did.” Your eyes met his, the low light of the art deco lamp shining in them.
“What did you study?” Eddie pressed, tongue rolling on the inside of his cheek.
“Don’t laugh,” You gave him a soft glare, lips curling in a playful grin. “I majored in Art History.”
“Art History?” Eddie’s lips spread in a smile that matched yours. You noticed the creasing in his stubbled cheeks, dimples peeking through. “You know I gotta ask the question now.”
“Oh, please don’t.” You groaned, shaking your head.
“I’ve got to.” Eddie shrugged. “What are you going to do with that degree?”
“C’mon,” You laughed, lips pursing, lashes batting at him flirtatiously, satisfied at how his brows raised. “Uh, you know… I thought I would be like Charlotte York, y’know?”
Eddie blinked at you. “From Sex and the City?” You blinked back.
“Is that… A movie?”
“No.” You gasped playfully. “You don’t know Sex and the City? The show? I mean, there’s movies too, but it’s a show. The best show.”
“Sounds like a good one.” Eddie purred, a seductive tone in his humor that had your tummy flipping, rushing with exciting heat.
“Um, so, I-I wanted to buy and sell art. Work in a museum, do the whole thing.” You tilted your head slightly. “Didn’t exactly work out.”
“You’ve got time.” Eddie hummed.
You rolled your eyes lightly. “I don’t know. I feel like it’s probably unrealistic. Probably will end up being the part time art teacher at the elementary school for life. Maybe even work up to a full time spot.” You giggled, crossing your fingers playfully in the air.
“Is that what you do now?” Eddie asked.
“Yeah, that and the barista thing. It’s easy. Both of them are.” Nerves bubbled in your chest under his gaze. You knew you were rambling, fuck you were rambling, but how could you not? When he was looking at you so calmly, when he was looking right through you.
“The, uh, the district can’t pay a full time art teacher, so I come every other week.” Your nails tapped against your thighs to keep your fidgeting hands from ringing under the table.
“Yeah? That’s cool. Bet it’s fun.” Eddie grinned softly. “I always liked when Brielle was little, and she’d come home with some creation.” Your heart swelled at how he beamed, how he lit up when he talked about Brielle.
“Especially after my- well, my divorce.” Eddie smiled shyly, and through the dim lights of the restaurant, you swore you could see a blush. “I was living in this shitty little apartment. I had nothing on the walls, didn’t even really unpack because it was like, what’s the point, y’know? Brielle would always bring me drawings and stuff she made in art class to hang on the walls. She told me it made it look less boring.”
Your giggles mixed with his own soft laughter, shoulders relaxing for the first time, tension finally breaking. The waiter came with your glasses of wine, a gentle break from the affection blooming between the two of you.
“So,” You swirled the riesling around in your own crystal glass, looking at him over the rim. “Now I have to ask the question.”
Eddie’s right lip tugged in a smirk, one he tried to hide with a roll of his tongue. “Lay it on me, sweetheart.”
Your cheeks tingled with prickling heat, taking a steadying breath to soothe your jittering nerves. “You’re divorced?”
“Yeah.” Eddie snorted lightly. “You think I’d be here if I wasn’t?”
“No, I didn’t,” You shook your head, chin ducking to hide your burning face.
“I’m kidding.” Eddie soothed, knee brushing against yours under the table playfully. “What do you want to know? I’m an open book.”
“When’d you get divorced?” You said into the crystal of your glass, voice echoing before you swallowed your wine.
“When Brielle was eight.” Eddie continued, fingers drumming against the wood of the table. “We were married eight years, together almost a year before that. Gina- my ex- she got pregnant, and… I don’t want it to sound like that. Brielle, she’s the best thing that ever happened to me-”
“-No, I get that.” You nodded. “I get what you’re saying.”
“I thought it was the right thing to do. We were really young and- honestly? We were scared shitless at the time. Figured we should do it together, and…” Eddie trailed off with a sigh, shoulders slumping in defeat.
“And?” You pressed, the alcohol in your system already, loosening up your nerves.
Eddie’s lips twitched, a small huff blowing through his nostrils in soft amusement. “And when your seven year old asks Santa for her parents to stop fighting for Christmas, you have to make difficult choices.”
“Oh,” Your brows creased gently. “Yeah, I guess that would do it. You two fought a lot?” You couldn’t stop the question from coming out, tumbling past your lips in curiosity.
“Yeah, we did.” Eddie said with a small laugh. “It… We just weren’t good together. We hated each other- well, I shouldn’t say that. I didn’t hate her. We just couldn’t get along. Couldn’t get aligned no matter how hard we tried to, and when you’re raising a kid? You need to be aligned.”
You nodded, an iron grip on your wine glass as you took another sip. Your brain raced with the urgency to fill the uncomfortable silence, coming up blank and void of anything.
“What about you?” Eddie broke the silence. “Your parents divorced?”
“No they’re not.” You shook your head. “Still together.”
“That’s nice.” He nodded. “You’re from Hawkins?”
“Pretty much. Moved here when I was in second grade.”
“So not that long ago.” Eddie’s lips curled in a wicked grin, eyes lighting with something so exciting. Filled you with rushing heat from head to toe.
"Ha-ha." You deadpanned sarcastically, lips rolling to try and bite back your own grin.
Eddie held his hands up in mock defense. "I'm just trying to address the elephant in the room, sweetheart.”
“What elephant?” Your eyes rounded innocently, feigning confusion. It was adorable, Eddie’s heart skipped at it. This was fun- you were fun.
“C’mon,” Eddie faltered, a breathy laugh slipping out. “I mean, it’s not a secret I’m a little bit older than you.” He pressed his pointer finger and thumb together, and for a moment, you got to see the etchings on them.
“What’s wrong with that?” You were shocked at your own boldness. Eddie certainly was too, brows lifting before his lips spread in a wolfish grin. “I’m having a good time.”
“Yeah?” Eddie’s eyes lit up. “Me too. Between me and you, this is the first date I’ve enjoyed in a while.”
You pressed your lips together, fighting back your own giggly grin threatening to show. "Oh, this is a date?I thought this was just a thank you dinner, Mr. Munson?" You challenged, playfully raising a brow.
You smirked when you saw his cheeks flush underneath the light, lips twitching and twisting into a smug smile. "If that's all you want it to be, that's all it'll be." Eddie said, fingers tapping on the table. "But I really am having a good time talkin' to you. Enjoying your company."
"It's been nice talking to you, too." You agreed with a breathy sigh. "It’s been really nive, actually. The last few times I've been on a date it's been..." You cringed at the memory. "This is way better, let's just say that."
"So it is a date?" Eddie teased, raising a brow playfully. The wrinkles in his forehead deepened as did the small ones by his eyes, a grit to his look that left you feeling flustered.
The waiter returned with a refill, saving you from a response. Your body burned when Eddie nodded, motioning for your glass to be refilled.
Eddie lifted his whiskey out to you in a toast. "To you. A thank you for the other night, and tonight." You smiled bashfully, clinking your glass delicately against his, a familiar giddy rush of heat you hadn’t felt in a long time returning to the pit of your belly.
Tumblr media
You weren’t entirely sure how it happened.
If it was the wine, or the countless stories Eddie told you exaggeratedly that left you laughing so hard your sides ached. Maybe it was the dimples, how they’d crease in a wicked grin when he’d say something that made you blush. How he’d catch his tongue between his teeth, eyes darkening in the most exciting way.
Maybe the wine was to blame. Two glasses turned to three, you’d slipped beside Eddie in the booth after the waiter filled your fourth glass. Gone was any apprehension about the night, nerves disappearing with every wine soaked giggle.
You’d shut the place down, the last two lingering in the same booth as the staff cleaned up, loudly stacked chairs and passive aggressive sweeps under your table until Eddie finally paid the bill. “Let’s get outta here.”
He wrapped an arm around your shoulders on the way to the car, smitten at the way you leaned into his side. Eddie had opened the door for you, not at all ready for you to fist his shirt, pulling him in for a sloppy kiss. The strong scent of his spicy aftershave overtook your senses, blended perfectly with a hint of cigarette smoke. You could taste the whiskey from before on his tongue, mixing with the remnants of the wine left on yours, a perfect collision that left your head spinning deliciously.
Your hands found his hair, tangling your fingers through his curls, pulling him deeper and deeper into you until you found yourself here- pressed in the backseat of his truck, his weight pressing you into the leather seats. Forearms planted on either side of your head to keep himself above you, Eddie’s lips moved against yours expertly. You thought he’d be a lousy kisser, too old to be good at it- it was a pleasant surprise that he was quite the opposite, clearly with years of experience that perfected his craft.
You were beneath him, writhing and grinding into his thigh, feet sliding the length of his calf. Insatiable- needy, even.
"Sweetheart, hold on." Eddie breathed, pulling apart so he hovered above you. “Wait.” He laughed, pushing away when you clawed at him, desperately trying to pull him back to you.
His curly tendrils fell onto your cheeks, ticking them when he looked down at you through thick, dark lashes. Your eyes rounded so sweetly up at him, lips swollen and kiss bitten.
Eddie sighed gently, a content yet sharp exhale you could feel, your chest still on his. "This is great. Really great, but..."
The hummingbird beat of your heart stilled entirely, taking a sharp breath in. You knew it was coming. The inevitable 'I can't do this with you'. The fall, the crash back to reality. It was too good to be true, too odd to work anyways. You cursed yourself for letting him get you this far. You were stupid to think this was going to work. You knew better.
"I just,” Eddie huffed, smacking a hand against the headrest, pushing up. Your legs tightened around his hips frantically, one last desperate attempt to stop him.
“Hang on. I gotta move. My back is killing me." Eddie sighed, shaking his head as he adjusted so he knelt awkwardly between your legs, still hunched in the back of the car.
You blinked. "What?"
Eddie scoffed lightly, grinning, face still inches from your own. "C’mon, I'm not young like you, baby. Can’t do the backseat as easy anymore. Not as good as I once was." He smiled, tossing you a wink that had your body screaming with excitement.
You smiled shyly, scooting back into the seat to make room for him, mumbling a quiet apology. "No, it’s not- I wanna do this. I just-I gotta go somewhere where I'm not so cramped. If you wanna do this.” Eddie added the last part quickly, eyes scanning your features carefully.
“Yeah, of course.” You giggled, lip tucking between your teeth.
“Back to my place?” Eddie grunted, fumbling to find the door handle. You nodded, pulling to adjust your clothing.
The two of you stumbled through the front door, limbs clinging and grabbing the other, fisting and shoving clothes off in between feverish kisses. A trail of clothing following the two of you to the living room. You dropped to your knees before he could pull you into the room, stopping in the entrance, his hands planted on the door frame above you.
Your hands shook with excitement, fumbling with his belt. “Easy,” Eddie rasped, looking down at you through lidded lashes. “Take your time, baby. No need to rush. ‘M not goin’ anywhere.”
Your thighs squeezed, rubbing together for friction, his hands finding your hair as you licked his tip. One hand gripping the back of his thigh to keep you steady, and the other cupping his balls, squeezing as you rolled them, smug at the grunts and hushed moans of pleasure spilling from his lips.
"Fuuuck, baby." Eddie groaned, stilling his hips. "Just like that. All the way. Good girl." He groaned, looking down at you through half-lidded eyes. You felt another trembling gush of excited wetness flood your panties, clenching around nothing but an aching desire to be filled, taking him deeper.
You swallowed him as far as you could, only gagging when he pushed past your throat. "C’mon, you got it. You can do it. Do it f’me? Ah, yeah, just like that.” Eddie panted, head tipping back when he touched the back of your throat. “Atta girl, good girl. Such a good girl for me, aren't you, baby?" Your nose brushed against his coarse hair at the base of him, eyes pricking with tears.
He pulled out of you unexpectedly, a small whimper leaving your lips. "That's a good girl." Eddie cooed, calloused fingers wiping the wetness from under your eyes. "Someone's gotta take care of you, huh? Your turn now, hm?"
Eddie led you to the couch, hands gripping your waist, baring you for him. Your body trembled at the way his eyes darkened, looking at your puffy, slick lips with a hungry, nearly predatory look. Legs over his shoulders, your nails digging into the cushions behind you as your hips bucked, held into place by his steady grip until you were crying out his name. He was a pro, that much was for certain.
You told him that, body still shaking with after shocks of pleasure that left  your mind spacey from your second orgasm. He'd simply laughed. "Years of practice, baby doll." Throwing you a wink, smooching the inside of your thigh sloppily before letting his fingers run through your slick, sensitive folds.
He'd finally got you into his bed, stumbling down the hallway, before you propped yourself on all fours near the edge of the bed. He'd fucked you, hard. The squelch of your pussy being filled with him echoing off the walls, mixed with whimpers and groans from the both of you, a sinful melody that neither one of you wanted to end.
You'd pushed him on the bed, climbing on top before you sank down on his cock. It was a thank you for the dinner, you decided, and for everything afterwards. Nails digging into his tattooed chest as you sank down, brows pinched and eyes shining taking- feeling every single inch of him inside of you. You felt so full of him. It was overwhelming, dizzying the way he felt inside of you. The head of his cock bumped, teasing the sensitive spot that made you gush, leaving your body burning and aching for him.
Eddie's hands dug into the meat of your hips and ass, a low grunt falling from his chest. Your hips swiveled, sucking him in with ever pleasure filled gallop on top of him.
"You close? Y'gonna cum for me, sweet thing?" Eddie whispered, your whiny response making his cock twitch, groaning at the squeeze of your walls around his length. "Doin’ so good. Shit- feel so good. Go ahead. Cum f’me, baby." His fingers traveled up your body, flicking and twisting your pebbled nipples.
You clenched, rhythm stuttering, sitting fully and grinding against his base for friction. "Oh, fuck," You whined, high and nasally. "I-I’m really close- oh!” Your body stuttered when his calloused thumb pressed to your clit, circling it and sending you spiraling into pleasure.
Your brain blanked, eyes rolling back as you clamped down on him, leaning forward for support as he held you up. Eddie smirked, moving you so you were on your back, still buried inside of you.
"'M gonna finish up, alright? I'm close." Eddie whispered, pressing lazy kisses up and down your neck, breath ghosting over your collarbones leaving you shuddering. You nodded dumbly, sensitive and starry eyed still as he thrusted in you.
"You're such a pretty thing, you know that? Beautiful, baby." Eddie teased, nipping and sucking at your neck. The stubble of his beard rubbed against your skin, leaving it raw and chafed in its wake, not that you minded. He collapsed on top of you after he finished, chest slick against yours. You could feel every stuttering, ragged breath.
Your thighs were trembling, still covered in a sticky sheen of sweat, dizzy as your body slowly settled. Melting into the mattress, the realization of it all came flooding back into your mind. Your eyes cut to Eddie sheepishly, anticipating a look that would send you into another deep wave of shame. Instead, he lit a cigarette next to you, jimmying the window open just barely, letting the smoke pass through.
He looked over, handing it over as an offering, which you shook your head. "Good," Eddie's gruff voice said, blowing smoke in the opposite direction. "Nasty habit. Don’t start it, you’ll never be able to stop." He grinned.
You felt a blush coming on, one that never quite made it. Your own body too exhausted, heavy with sleep, the effects of the wine finally settling in your system. "Thanks for takin' me out tonight." You sighed, cheek pressed to the cool linen of the pillow. "'M glad you asked me out."
"Anytime, sweetheart." Eddie said through a cloud of smoke that fell from his lips. “Had a good time too. Let’s do it again.” That same wicked grin spread across his lips, devious and daring. Your body tingled with excitement, nose pressing into the pillow to hide your sleepy smile.

say, i heard you reblog a post about role playing games. do you happen to know of any ones that i, a beginner, could feasibly get into in this day and age? i tried DnD but a combination of not having anybody to play with (whether irl or online) and a dissatisfaction with low level boringness kind of made it fizzle out for me
oh hey an ask from 3 months ago that I didn't even see. hi.
ANYWAY. First things first, i cannot recommend @theresattrpgforthat enough. Ain't nobody better at recommending rpgs than that blog right there. Now, on to my thoughts.
If you want a DnD-like rpg, Pathfinder 2nd Edition is gonna be my first recommendation. It's harder to find games for on account of being significantly less popular than dnd5e but it's probably the 2nd most popular game. It's also completely free, with everything being hosted on https://2e.aonprd.com/. It's got everything except adventures, those ya gotta buy. For the next 10 days, there's a humble bundle that includes PDFs of lots of the pre-remaster legacy books, and includes a couple adventures, including a whole adventure path going from level 1 to 20. As a whole, the game is different to dnd but it's recognizable. Big fan myself, and paizo isn't a bunch of pricks. The setting is also super gay. There's a potion of trans your gender, and one of the main religions in the world is the worship of 3 gods in lesbian polycule.
Ironsworn: probably my favorite RPG, period. (also has a space version, that works the same way). It is narrative focused, and designed for solo play or in groups with no GM. Works just as well by yourself, as a duo, in a small group, or in a traditional way with a few players and a GM. It's structured around it's vow system. Your character makes a vow, you decide how difficult that vow should be to accomplish, and as you do things that advance it, you mark progress. Eventually, you make a roll to try and fulfill the vow, with the difficulty determined by how much progress you've made. If you fail that roll, it's bad. Cool thing is that just about everything works that way. Undertaking a journey, delving a dungeon, fighting a dude, it's all handled with the same system. It's a game about perseverance and struggle and relationships, both with people and with places. also very fun to play for writing practice. It's mechanics are rooted in it's setting, but there's no reason you couldn't play it in basically any setting. the youtube channel Me, Myself, And Die is, essentially, Critical Role But It's Solo RPGs, and he did a great season where he played Ironsworn, check it out. Also, Basement Fort on youtube did a duo playthrough. I've only seen the first episode but it seems like a fun watch, as well as showing off duo gameplay.
the Witcher RPG: i haven't played this myself or even looked at the books yet, but everything I've heard about this game has me super excited about it. the general consesus seems to be "yo this is wayyyy better than I thought it would be, why aren't more people playing this, what the fuck". If somebody more familiar wants to talk about it, that'd be dope.
gonna ramble about the rest much less, LIGHTNING ROUND OF RECOMMENDATIONS
Dungeon World: same genre as dnd, but much less crunchy gameplay. Much easier to learn.
Kids On Bikes: it's Stranger Things but as a ttrpg.
Call of Cthulhu: get spooky, idiot. The players are investigators unraveling some mystery or another, and trying to keep their sanity in the face of some cosmic bullshit.
Lancer: it's about mechs! closer to anime-style mechs than battletech style, from what I can tell. I've heard good things.
Vampire: The Masquerade: you will NEVER guess what this is about. It's a classic, it's great, it pretty much redefined the way I think vampires should work. The new version of Werewolf: The Apocalypse is coming soon, and I'm real hyped for that, too.
Shadow Of The Demon Lord: my understanding is that this game is basically "DnD 5e, but good".

A few more snippets of interest and insight from Mark Darrah, from an older Mark Darrah on Games YouTube video where he was livestreaming playing Dragon Age: Origins some months ago -
Chat said "I would love to see Shale again, but I'm not counting on it." Mark replied "Shale is quantum."
"I don't think we'll ever see broodmothers again. People trapped in statues, sure, I could see that. Desire demons would definitely get a redesign if they ever came back for sure. You could do something like the Fear demon in DA:I where it sort've, you could do it in conversation where it looks like something different to everybody. That might be an interesting approach. Yeah, or Desire demons mirroring the player character's romance, if you had a romance then you'd know what would work with the character."
"I don't think the character artists are happy with the sort've giant bulldog look of mabari. I think if we got mabari again it would be [inaudible]".
"My original plan for Joplin was to make a toolset, find a talented group of people and essentially uplift them into an indie studio and help them make a remake of DA:O. So if that had been the case, the combat would have been much more modern. If you were to Deadspace[-style remake] it, I don't know what you'd do, because remaking DA:O with modern graphics and tac cam would be expensive. If you go to a remaster you could just up-res all the textures and call it a day, that's the easy one, it's easy to see what you'd do with that. If you're doing a remake I'm not sure where you land. Like do you go more action RPG? DA:O was considered an action RPG in its day."
Chat asked "Is there a plan to include any of the old main player characters in the next games?" Mark replied, "The problem with the Hero of Ferelden appearing in future games is they don't have a voice and everyone else has a voice now, and they could very well be dead. So it's sort of a difficult one. It was discussed for DA:I when you're in the Fade, but. If you're gonna bring them back you gotta figure out what to do, it could be done. Bringing them back now, I think what you would do is make it so that, 'surprise! they're still alive' and they are mute now because of something to do with the Blight. I mean you're kind of retconning that in, but you could 'a wizard did it' into making them mute. The other thing would be, their appearance is definitely lost, so you would have to recreate them. But that's already been done, we did that with Hawke."
Chat commented around this point, "Same problem with DA:D and the Inquisitor, but it would be weird if they didn't have any role at all." Mark said, "With the Inquisitor, at least you can just assume that the events of Trespasser happened whether they played it or not. So they have no arm."
"The Dead Space remake is designed to feel like the original, not be the original. I don't know that you can do that with DA. You can remaster, in which case it is the original, just pretty. You can remake, but I think remaking and making it feel like the original isn't really possible. So if you make a remake it's more likely to feel like DA:I or like whatever DA:D ends up feeling like, more than it is to feel like DA:O. One of the reasons why it hasn't happened is, Mass Effect is like, if you find a partner that knows how to do Unreal, and there's a million of them, then you know what you need to do. It's on early Unreal 4, especially ME1, so it needs to be updated, so you need to touch a bunch of stuff and find stuff that's been lost. You know the best version of the combat, so you update everything to that. With DA:O it's like you could just up-res the textures, but first of all there's no partners out there, basically, that know how to use Eclipse. The pitch was to take DA:O and DAII and you basically remake them in Frostbite and you make the 'Champions Trilogy', you retcon it into a trilogy. Like it's three different player characters, 'this is their rises', and you remake it."
"There was some appetite after Joplin was gone, there became some appetite for releasing the toolset for Frostbite, but the two things didn't line up."
"I like Absolution, I feel like it could have used one or two more episodes but you know, I get why it didn't get that. Oh yeah, it's definitely a love letter [to DA]. I can't imagine someone watching Absolution if they didn't know anything about DA and it making a ton of sense, because it's talking about an 'Inquisition' as if they're the good guys, and the Tevinter Imperium isn't really set up as being that bad until it suddenly is really bad, so I think you kinda need to know what's going on coming in. Netflix is kind've throwing a lot of things at the wall to figure out what works. Disney is eating their lunch and Disney controls all the IPs." Chat here said "The sad thing is Netflix is notorious for cancelling things that are loved." Mark said "It's possible that Absolution was relatively cheap, but Netflix's track record is, that unless it was very cheap, I can't imagine us [inaudible]. I don't know the numbers on Absolution. I mean they set it up to make it so they could do a second season, but yeah, I don't know if they were."
"Absolution would have been a relatively cheap show but that doesn't, so like that's the weird thing, Netflix will do multiple seasons of things. It's like a cost-benefit analysis. Something with lower ratings that was cheap enough could get a second season versus something that was really popular but cost a lot could get cancelled. Absolution was pretty cheap, but I don't know if it was cheap enough."
[source]
He also talked more generally about DA:O and the franchise and things in general. These bits are collected under a cut due to length -
[During Witch Hunt DLC when talking to Sandal] "Interesting that Dagna's not here in the Circle Tower. Would have been a good opportunity. Someone forgot"
"I feel like Ariane's personality is a bit inconsistent"
[when ambient dialogue in the Tower references the refugee camp at Kirkwall] "Definitely starting to lay the foundation for DAII"
Chat said "Shale having thoughts on the Titans would be interesting". Mark replied "I mean they're just a dwarf, so they wouldn't necessarily know anything, but maybe they picked some knowledge up from the transition"
Chat asked "How do you feel about mods that allow players infinite retrains for stats?" Mark replied "I think these days, infinite retraining is not a bad thing. Probably don't wanna be able to do it in the middle of a level because then you can trivialize encounters"
[at the Witch Hunt veil tears] "So unlike in DA:I, you can just punch veil tears to death here." Mark then mentions that this doesn't really make sense
"You can see that Witch Hunt had a low budget for character art"
Chat said "So how does looking into the future work in DA?" Mark replied "I think seeing the future is sort've like, ripples coming back in the Fade, is how it's presented"
"It's weird that darkspawn emissaries are called 'emissaries' if they can't talk. Sort've an odd choice of name." Chat mentioned here that in the related codex, hurlock alphas spoke. Mark said "Yeah, it's a bit inconsistent, because I'm pretty sure that even in DA:O there's an implication of speaking darkspawn, and then in Awakening everyone is like, omg, speaking darkspawn?"
"Trusting the Architect, probably not a good idea"
Chat asked "Why do some people think the DA world and the ME world are in the same universe? What do you think about it?" Mark said "People think that because they just like joining things like they like together. I guess there is a krogan head in DA:O and there's an ogre on the wall in ME. Cole references ME characters and events, but he also references irl movies from the 80s"
"Witch Hunt is balanced to be able to play it after base game DA:O or after Awakening"
"PEGI and ESRB ratings used to matter a lot because stores like Walmart for example wouldn't carry anything with an M rating. That's not true anymore. There was also a time when T rated games sold worse than M rated games because teenagers didn't wanna buy T rated games because they thought they were kiddie"
Chat said "In hindsight, do you think it was a good idea to have this many fleshed out different origins? They really made the game unique and replayable, but no other games are doing it." Mark replied, "It's incredibly expensive. Having origins like this, you need to do tutorials six times, it's brutal. So I think it's kind've, if you could do it for free I think it's great because it lets you see, set the setting up from a bunch of different places. But as a general content thing it's a lot of extra work. If you wanted to do it what I would actually suggest would be something where you start with, somehow have a common beginning place, and then either flashback to the origins, or do a mission in the middle which was unique to each of your origins. So if you are playing, like if you imagine you started in Ostagar, but then did a flashback to your individual origin, how you got to Ostagar, but then it was after the tutorial, so at least you're not six timing all of the tutorials. Maybe"
"DA:O has a lot more custom levels than following games just because of the workflows"
"I don't know why you're chasing Morrigan down in Witch Hunt if you didn't have a baby or romance with her or she didn't have the OG baby. It's a bit weird, your motivation for it is a bit loose. The hook is a little weak if the OGB doesn't exist"
"DA:O combat feels like an MMO, through a modern lens. Bits of the story have aged really badly, but otherwise the story holds up well"
"Stroud is there in DA:I because he's the only one for sure who is alive"
"Tac cam is not widely used after DA:O. If a remake of DA:O is for the original audience, I think you'd need tac cam still there. Tac cam was important to them. But the question is who is the remake for, who is your audience? DA:I tac cam is a compromise. DA:O is free-roaming, you can drive it into the darkness, but that requires a ton of special work in terms of level creation. So you could make the DA:I-style tac cam for a DA:O remake but I think you would find it virtually unusable, because the levels are built assuming you can just slide it out"
"EA doesn't like spending money. I think there's a belief that a DA remaster/remake would make money. The question is would it make enough money? This is the weird corporate thing. Would it be profitable enough?"
Chat asked "Can BioWare just give up the code to the public for the community to have some fun and make DA:O 2.0?" Mark replied "There's no way EA would let the code go out. EA is too worried, a lot of decisions at EA are made by executives from the perspective of, 'I would rather something not exists than something exists and I get in trouble for it not being us that made it'"
"MELE did well and is well-reviewed but I mean did it sell millions of copies? It made its money back but did it do better than that?"
"A remaster of DA:O, DAII and DA:I would cost more than MELE but it is comparable. A remake, you're getting into, like remaking the DA 'trilogy' is at least as expensive as a brand new game and it probably doesn't sell that well"
"If you're gonna open the hood of DA:O you should remaster DA:I. I don't think it would take too much, there's a couple of things you could do to make it look even better and also I thin you rebalance the Power requirements. Which would take a week. Just tune the down, just so you could make it through the game a bit quicker and not get lost in the middle. And maybe force you out of the Hinterlands"

Mikunology Reviews: Boku wa Hatsune Miku to Kiss wo Shita (2013) (Pt.2)
Tumblr media
Alright, here we are with Part 2, where I will chat about the album's second half! Let's get to it!
Part 1 here
Ii, Er Fanclub: I think anyone who vaguely knows of Mikito has heard this one, if it's not ROKI. XD This is another more goofy, fun track about Rin and Gumi being fans of Chinese culture. And I love it! It's a great song, the back-and-forth between Rin and Gumi is so fun to sing along to - the inclusion of actual Chinese words is really fun as well. The drums are great here too. There's not really much I can say on this one that isn't just regular praise?? I highly recommend checking out it's PV by the wonderful Yori and Ryuusee! (Actually, I do have one comment I want to make: unpopular opinion, but I like this original Rin & Gumi version a lot more over Giga's Miku & Len mix. The goofy charm of the original song just jives with me more, although Giga's tuning is stellar.)
Wednesday Blue: This is another remaster, this time of one of Mikito's much older Miki originals. This is more typical rock'n'roll-style track, and it's a bit noisier than Mikito's usual fare. Unfortunately, I do think it's my least favorite on this album: it's a bit…all-over-the-place, compared to Mikito's later work? The Miki vocals are clearer and a bit better than the original NND upload, but they're still notably clunky in some places which can kinda take me out of the song. That said, the song as a whole isn't bad or anything, and it's actually pretty catchy after a few listens - it's just kinda clear this song was written by a less experienced Mikito. (Not to poke fun - everyone starts somewhere!)
Setsuna Plus (Momentary Plus): And here we are, back to Miku Dark again. This song is a bit more abstract in terms of lyrics, I think, but I still find myself coming back to it. There's not much I can say about this one either, honestly? Other than that it's good and that I like it - it has that usual great atmosphere again. However, I do have a slight criticism, I think - as much as I love the way Miku sounds here, I think this song could have done with a bit more powerful vocal instead, after hearing a few covers with characters like Amaga Eru (who can be pretty loud in her base voicebank).
Sarishinohara (Distant Fields): I remember not being too keen on this track at first for some reason? I don't know what was up with me because this song is really lovely XD This is a rock song about the forbidden love between a boy and his best friend and classmate, who has become an idol (and since idols can't date, she can no longer see him). There's such a tragic, melancholic feel to this song that really gets across the pain the boy is in, both in that he can no longer be with the girl despite her being "everywhere", in a sense, both in the instruments and in Miku Dark's vocals. Personally, I find this to be my favorite in the "Sarishinohara" trilogy, since 1) I think the melody is a bit easier to get into compared to the others and 2) just the sheer vibes.
Secret DVD: Ah, this one…the spicy one. A more straightforward rock track with a bit more "vanilla" Miku voice instead of Miku Dark, about doing sexy things. I actually like this one quite a bit despite the mature subject matter - it is pretty catchy, and the guitars are really good here. There's a part in the second verse where there's a harp-like strum and it's really satisfying. I also gotta say, something I always appreciated about Mikito's more sexual songs is that they're usually written in a manner that actually makes the act sound romantic rather than…well, you know. XD (*looks at REOL and Umetora*) I recommend this one for the music alone even if you're not into the song lyrically.
Salad Banya Cauda: Now for something completely different! XD This is one of the very few completely album-exclusive tracks, since I believe all of the tracks on this list have been released with PVs with the exception of this and Gariben Hirose no Shouri. This isn't really a rock track at all - it's a cute little folksy-type song with more acoustic instruments and simple Miki vocals (with the exception of some electric guitar between verses). I like it, though! It's a cute song, it makes you feel like marching through some sunny trees to find some berries or some adventure. However, I do think it can come as a surprise given the vibe of literally everything else. I think you might enjoy it, still!
Gariben Hirose no Shouri (A Geek's Huge Victory): OK, back to rock - this is the other completely album-exclusive track, and honestly? I've come to like it quite a bit. It has that signature nice Mikito J-rock vibe, with some lovely Gumi tuning to go with it. There's not much I can say about it that I haven't said for other songs on this CD, though? Just more of the same good stuff, I suppose. XD However, I really like the end part, where Gumi starts singing some "lalala"'s - something I like about Mikito's rock songs is that some of them feel like they could be played at the end of movies or as ending themes to anime episodes, and this is definitely one such song with the way it plays out.
Sayoko: Ah, this is another famous one. Sayoko is a soft J-rock track about severe depression, and once again uses Miku Dark - I think this is a really brilliant use of her, though, it really fits the song's theme since Miku sounds so melancholic and tired here. The melody is again a bit more understated, but it also really fits. I'm running out of things to say about the music itself XD I really think this song has a great calming vibe to it, despite the sad lyrics…I think someone could find it a great comfort, especially if you relate (like me!).
kiss: Finally, the last track, and the single collaboration on this CD: featuring the great Vocarock producer keeno! Together, he and Mikito form Mikeeno! (I love it when producers do that.) Predictably given their respective work, this is a slow, calm rock ballad about love. Now, I'm not the hugest fan of rock ballads? But I really love this one: the lyrics are really sweet and wistful, the lead guitar is perfect and Miku Dark returns to the gentle sound usually associated with both these producers. If you really like songs like "glow" or the slower songs I've already talked about on this album, you'll definitely love "kiss".
And that, my pals, is the whole CD! Yeah, all in all, for a first album, I think this is an amazing start for Mikito-san and an absolute must-listen if you are an enjoyer of Vocarock. Sure, he isn't the hard-rocking 164 or Utsu, but the soft and atmospheric yet fun and lively tunes by Mikito are incredibly worth hearing. Thanks for reading my first album review, please let me know if you enjoyed it ;v;
now if only I could get this album physically orz

So here I am, gathering references for my Desmond study, as one does, and I reach AC3. I brace myself for impact because I have the original un-mastered version, and I find the remaster flattens the models too much and kinda, plastifies them?? which makes figuring out dimensions hard. So I gotta deal with, a lot of lighting and rendering bullshit instead. Fun all around.
I start the game and get to screenshooting, and I notice Desmond has some drastic pale palms going on. Like, oddly so. I shrug it off for now, but then I notice that Bill Miles also has them. And, Shaun? Some more gameplay in and we reach Haytham and, he has the same stark pale palms situation going on. Ngl, I'm baffled.
Tumblr media
Speaking of averages and my own observations, people with pale skin don't get that stark pale palms even when they tan. They get some faint distinction, but it's mostly from a tanning gradient, the undersides of your arms don't get as exposed to sunlight so less tan. Meanwhile people with naturally brown skin do have distinct pale palms that clashes even with their own tanning gradient.
Now, I know for a fact Haytham doesn't have enough melanin in him to have naturally brown skin, that's a white man. He might not burn in the sun but c'mon, this feels too stark. Not only that, but the skintone just, don't match? Their hands are too red undertoned while Haytham's and Desmond's faces are much less so.
Tumblr media
So I decide to do some digging. Now, I have no know-how on how to rip assets in games and god forbid, translate them to something like Blender. But I do know that machinimas were big back in the day, and that includes a lot of AC character models being used for gifs and videos and such, so I delve into DA for some model refs. And indeed, I find them, and...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, that's not the same skintone. And after looking at some other screenshots online, even in game the skintone is very much not a match. So what's up with that?
It turns out that as far as I can tell, Ubi did about three skintones (pale, brown and dark) for each gender, by modifying a base skin texture's levels or smth, thus why the palms are so stark. They used the same skintone for the native npcs, Connor, Haytham, Bill, and Desmond. Likewise, Ziio and Prudence share the same skin texture. Which, royally sucks for reference taking, despite being a fairly common game dev trick to shrink asset production.
Tumblr media
Where am I going with this? Nowhere really, I'm simply annoyed. ACR very much whitewashed Desmond, but AC3 did um... something alright.

Play This: DOL-OS
Tumblr media
Play This is a place for me to tell you about games or game demos that I love and want everyone to play! Right. Now.
Tumblr media
Year 3XXX, you discover an old computer, an antique, in some ruins. Surprisingly, it still powers up when you press its buttons. Wonder what you found within its files?
Play the game for yourself!
Y'all, this is a special game. Originally published in French, DOL-OS won Best Game of Concours de Fiction Interactive Frachophone. Luckily for me, @manonamora-if recently released a remastered and translated version of her game in English.
The narrative and story of the game are excellent, but I've gotta talk first about the UI and the loading screen because....dang. Just, mind-bogglingly good. I'm not particularly knowledgable/experienced/good when it comes to the combo move of css, html and javascript that is Twine and clicking Run Game for the first time--you know in Fallout 3 when the vault door rolls away and you're like wooooooah? It was like that. It's so impressive and neat and I've reloaded the game many times now just to watch it start. This game belongs in an art gallery for IF.
Once I picked my jaw up off the floor and started playing, another delight was in store for me. The game sparked the same kind of excitement and interest as Her Story. You are presented with a computer desktop and free to do with it what you will. It invites the player to explore (to snoop! I love snooping) and once you find what's there you can make of it what you will. There's no explicit instruction or implication in what kinds of opinions or thoughts you should form. Explore and think freely. And wonder, are you the player part of this narrative?
And solve puzzles! I love puzzles. I got so excited about the first one that I think I missed a lot of other world-building. Oops!
The more you play the more you learn about the history of this computer, of the world it came from and the influence it's had. Complex moral questions are raised again with no clear directive from the game. You'll have to decide for yourself how you feel about this machine...and what you do about those feelings.
There are so many great moments in this game. [SLIGHT SPOILERS] Though my favorite: while playing the game I enjoyed the ever-present sound effect of the gentle whir of a cooling fan--a nostalgic noise from my youth. Well into the game, a principal character starts suffering deleterious effects from something he refers to as "the Humming Machine" and I'm like !!! Wait, is that a gentle fan blade sound or am I hearing the Humming Machine, too?! It was so creeeeeeepy! Loved it! [/SPOILERS]
Also, there are minigames. Come on, people! Minigames!
DOL-OS is a great game and I highly recommend playing it. I'm excited to play again and discover what I missed the first time through. Give yourself a Sunday treat and play the game!

Brendon, Jon, Ryan, and Spencer sat and listened to the studio version of the album that they'd created together. Nervously, they stared ahead at the older male who listened intently to their music, staying completely silent. Once the demo album had finished, the eldest clicked pause on the computer to prevent the tracks from looping, and leaned back on the couch before nodding and clasping his hands together. The four barely-out-of-high-school boys had matching racing heart rates as they waited in anticipation for him to say anything at all. Every moment of silence felt like an eternity.
"I've gotta sign you guys. You have such an excellent sound that the world needs to hear. Don't even get me started on how phenomenal your lyrics are," He turned to Ryan, nodding at him as he kept talking, "You're so young yet so poetic. I dig it, man. Keep up the good work." Pete said, a large smile overtaking his face. An honored smile slowly wriggled its way onto the tallest member's face as he looked down at his hands, embarrassed and nervous, yet grateful.
Brendon was the first to shoot up and yell, "Are you serious?! Hooooly shit!" He laughed giddily, Spencer and Jon high-fiving as Ryan sat in shock, voiceless. Brendon pulled him up and gave him a very tight hug, "Dude, thanks to your awesome lyricism, we're going places!" Ryan still hadn't been able to speak, but when he opened his mouth to attempt such, Pete stood up and grabbed the phone buzzing in his back pocket and glanced at it before making a quick exit, "Sorry guys, gotta head to my own rehearsal. Talk soon." The boys had all nodded and basically yelled their gratitude as he walked away, and Brendon followed behind him to let Pete out, as they were at Brendon's house. Though, before Pete left the Urie house, he turned and spoke loud enough for the whole band to hear him, "And hey, congrats. Seriously."
Brendon nodded his thanks as he let the man out and turned back to his friends and bandmates. For someone who never really knew when exactly to be quiet, Brendon was pretty much speechless, minus some excited laughs.  He pulled everyone into a hug, to which everyone gratefully partook in. Though, a kind and gentle voice interrupted their excitement and celebratory hug,
"Woah, I leave the house for like two hours and everyone's hugging. Everything okay-" Before she could properly formulate her question, the younger girl was swept off of her feet by her older brother, causing her to giggle. "Jesus, Brendon, what the hell happened? You finally get laid?"
Her comment caused the boys to laugh, including her obnoxious older brother. "Pete just left–"
It was her turn to interrupt now, "Did you guys get signed?!" Brendon's words dissolved into excited giggles and he nodded emphatically. She squealed in excitement and hugged him tightly.
"So, is it just a Urie thing to interrupt each other, or...?" Ryan finally spoke up, mostly directing his comment towards Spencer and Jon rather than the two siblings. The two siblings' hug broke and the girl laughed at her brother's best friend's comment.
Ryan felt his heart skip a beat at the sound of her laugh, but he turned his head away once his and her eyes connected. She couldn't see him blush. Her brother would kill him if he found out how Ryan felt.
Y/n Urie was untouchable, deemed so by her protective older brother. It bothered Ryan to extraordinarily painful degree, the fact that he'd never be able to have Y/n all to himself, he'd never be able to take her on meaningful dates, to be able to kiss her beautiful face, touch her incredibly stunning body, be the man she told her deepest secrets to, or anything remotely similar.
A year ago, Brent fucking Wilson ruined that for him, and he'd never forgive him for that. Brent and Y/n had dated for about 3 years, and Y/n loved him with all of her soul, and Brent acted like he loved her all the same, until New Year's Eve.
Keltie Knight. A girl that the Urie's, and Ryan grew to hate.
Y/n had been looking everywhere for her boyfriend, as she wanted to kiss him as the year changed, she walked around the party, opening several doors, calling for him. She finally opened a bedroom door and found her so-called love of her life on top of Keltie, and she felt her heart absolutely shatter at the sight.  Her world began to spin. Who knew that in a party with blaring music, the sound of a heart splintering could still be heard?
The worst part? Brent showed absolutely no remorse. As he kept his pace, pleasing the girl beneath him, he held eye contact with Y/n. Y/n dropped the cups she was holding and ran out of the house, pushing past her very concerned older brother and his best friend.
Brendon felt his chest tighten in anxiety and worry as he looked at Ryan, he tilted his head towards the doorway Y/n ran through and started speed walking in the direction she had come. "Make sure she's okay." Brendon spoke before turning back around.
Ryan sprinted out of the house, following Y/n's footprints in the snow, "Y/n!" He called after her before she turned to him, the moonlight highlighting the tears that now cascaded down her cheeks. Ryan lost every sentence he'd prepared as he looked at the girl he'd loved, truly distraught.
So he did what he thought best, he held his arms open for her. She ran into his arms and sobbed her heart out as Ryan pet her hair soothingly, "Hey...Shhh, let it out, sweetheart. I'm here. Talk to me, what's going on?"
Ryan didn't mean to use a pet name on her, it just kind of slipped. He felt his face heat up in embarrassment before he mentally smacked himself; his girl, his best friend's sister, was very clearly upset over something and he was making things about himself. How selfish could he be? He couldn't help that Y/n truly brought out the protective side in him.
Y/n didn't realize that Ryan called her 'sweetheart', or if she did, she said nothing about it. She only pressed her face deeper into Ryan's chest, feeling if she hid her face far enough into him she'd forget what she'd just seen and felt.
Ryan lightly tapped her shoulder before he pulled her back a little bit to look her in the eyes as he cupped her face. "Y/n?" He pressed gently, causing her to take a deep breath as Ryan used the pad of his thumbs to wipe the tears under her eyes.
"Brent...Brent and Keltie Knight..." was the only thing she could muster before she collapsed in on herself, sobbing even harder than she previously was.
With as few words and she had used, Ryan pieced together what happened and held her as tightly as he could. Anger raged through his bloodstream and he felt his body start to heat up from pure fury.
Ryan then realized how cold the girl in his hold was. Ryan took off his gray sweater, placing it over the shaking girl's shoulders. He wrapped his arms around her once more and rested his chin on her head before sighing softly, "I know the last thing you want to do is go back in there, but you're freezing, Y/n. Plus, Brendon was really worried about you."
She only nodded against his chest before pulling away and smearing her already smudged makeup with the back of her hand. She held Ryan's hand tightly, and she looked up at him.
They've always said the eyes are the window to the soul, Ryan would know. He knew almost every poetic saying there was: that saying was loud and true, especially right now. His heart cracked into little slivers as he could see how broken the younger girl truly was.
She squeezed his hand tightly and he glanced down before looking back up at her, "Please don't let go." She quietly begged, causing him to nod.
He forced his feelings, heart racing and all, to steady. He couldn't believe how his body was betraying him, Y/n was just cheated on and he couldn't keep his thoughts from swimming.
"I promise I won't." Ryan affirmed, squeezing her hand back.
Ryan guided her back to the house and the music that was previously blaring was now completely off, or turned down. Ryan and Y/n could hear the loud booming of a crowd and the grunting and yelling of two males, the sound of skin to fist echoing into the dark night.
The two made their way back into the house and shoved their way to the front of the circle that'd formed. Ryan, the taller of the two, spotted their friends, Jon and Spencer and made their way over to him. Spencer, like another older brother to Y/n, took her from Ryan's grip, and she momentarily let go of Ryan's hand. She pulled away before moving over to Ryan, taking his hand again and hiding in his chest once more.
She tilted her head slightly, watching the fight in front of her, for  her unfolded.
Her brother was on top of Brent, punch after punch landing into his nose. Brendon was unscathed, which surprised even Brendon himself. He was smaller than Brent, which had both advantages and disadvantages. Brendon was more agile due to karate, but he was a little weaker. At least, typically he was, but seeing his supposed friend, who was dating his sister, cheating on her unapologetically activated a different type of adrenaline in him.
Brent was bleeding and started to swell like a dropped fruit. "How could you do that to her?!" Brendon shouted down at him, another blow landing into Brent's face, "She and I fucking trusted you!" Another hit.
And another.
And another.
And another.
And then, Brendon stood up.
He walked over to Y/n and pulled her into a hug, still staring at Brent. He hadn't seen her and Ryan holding hands. A good thing. Especially right now. Ryan would've been lying if he said the cuts and blood on Brendon's hands didn't freak him out, at least a bit.
He walked Y/n towards the door before stopping at Brent's barely conscious body and kicking into his side as hard as he could, spitting on him. He wrapped his arms around Y/n once more, Ryan, following after the two.
As they got into the car, Brendon slid into the driver's seat, looking at Y/n in the rearview mirror, "I'm so sorry, Y/n, I won't let another one of my friends hurt you."
~
An elbow to the side knocked Ryan out of his reverie, and with a grunt of pain, he let out an irritated, "What?"
Jon snorted before gesturing towards Y/n who was now standing in front of him, no longer in the arms of her brother,
"I said, are you allergic to anything? I'm making a celebratory cake for you all! Pay attention, Ross!"
Ryan did his best to keep his composure, he rolled his eyes and shoved her playfully, "Obviously not, shouldn't you know this already?" He teased, smiling at her.
"Just making sure. Not trying to hide your dead body if you actually are allergic to something I make." And with that, she turned away and headed toward the kitchen, Spencer and Brendon following after her, excited to eat her awesome cake.
Jon lingered back for a moment with Ryan, "You gotta be careful man. I can't always save you." And then he headed towards the kitchen too.
Shit, was it that obvious he was thinking about her? There were some things she did that made him feel like she could possibly feel the same about her: the small stolen glances at him, the laughing sincerely at his jokes, making sure he was never left out of a conversation, the reassuring hand squeezes when he was nervous, the excited hugs. Man, her hugs were heavenly.
Jon was the only one who knew how Ryan felt about Y/n, hell, Jon was the only one who knew their song 'Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off' was really about Brent and Y/n, and not him and his ex girlfriend. Jon knew everything and helped Brendon know nothing.
Ryan knew he needed to relax and hide his feelings better, but, come on!
She was wearing Ryan's sweater.
That had to mean something, right?
Right?

BAR’s PS5 Screenshots 3-6-2024: the first 7 screenshots of this game are actually my Digital Download version of the Shadow of the Colossal PS4 Remake I now own digitally in my PS5 Console, and I gotta say though, that game is just as beautiful as when I actually used to play the PS3 Remaster of the original PS2 version of that game I played in the Team Ico Collection 12 or 13 years ago… my original PS3 Fat Launch Model Console crashed from the yellow light of death only once in summer 2010 and then later twice in summer 2011 when that 3rd yellow light of death forced me to go for a PS3 Slim Model Console later on Christmas 2011, that’s when I got myself the Team Ico Collection although I can’t remember if I got that compilation title in Christmas 2011 or on the 1st quarter months of early 2012, but one thing I do know is that the two visual styles of both SOTC’s PS2 Original Graphics and PS4 Remake Graphics have both aged gracefully, especially when the underdog PlayStation Studio Owned Company: BluePoint Games have surprisingly a marvelous job at remaking both that PS2 Cult Classic’s cast & open designs wholly from scratch, and for capturing the original PS2 Gameplay Animation Physics they put into that 2018 PS4 Remake too, the 8th and 9th screenshots are of this spectacular Metroidvania title known as Vernal Edge, and I know I’m having fun with that PS5 Digital Download Title too, and the 10th screenshot is of my Street Fighter Avatar I created in Street Fighter 6, and my SF6 Avatar’s name is Brisk Tintor, in hindsight: I probably should’ve also taken some pictures of my SF6 Avatar’s full body design too, just so you’d how I made my avatar’s design look, but maybe later when I’m done playing my Scarlet Nexus PS5 Disc Title’s whole story on my PS5 Disc Drive Console, I’ll reinstall Street Fighter 6 back in and capture some screenshots of my Avatar’s full appearance one of these days, since I wanted to save up my PS5 Console’s storage space btw, but I hope you folks like what games I’ve been playing of course.

Last-minute panics to do a task is real; it's a constant habit of mine and something you should, on a general note, never, ever, ever, EVER do.
I am, of course, talking about buying up any of the 3DS games I wanted before the eshop closes (as of this writing, tomorrow.) So the last two or so weeks have been a mad dash as I tried to fill my l'il handheld with whatever game that piques my interest. I can only hope I'll enjoy them!
So in fashionable alphabetical order, they are... under the "Keep Reading."
Tumblr media
Attack of the Friday Monster! A Tokyo Tale: Just the sound of exploring everyday mundane life in a small-time quiet, rural Japanese town was enough to draw me in. The Kaiju battles that happens every Friday was just incidental.
Tumblr media
BoxBoxBoy/Bye-Bye Box Boy: I already owned the first one and though I never finished it, I didn't feel particularly guilty about it. The whole series is one of those pick-up-and-play-for-a-few-minutes kind of puzzlers, so it'll still be there waiting for me whenever I feel the urge to return to its monochromatic world. I'm just relieved I don't love Box Boy that much to invest in the far-too-expensive Japanese exclusive amiibo.
Tumblr media
Bravely Default: "You gotta play Bravely Default!" "If you like Final Fantasy, play Bravely Default!" "Hey! When are you gonna play Bravely Default?" "Are you gonna get Bravely Default?" "YOU GOTTA PLAY BRAVELY DEFAULT!" Jesus Christ, alright already! I got goddang Bravely Default! I swear, this had better be the JRPG equivalent of ambrosia. (Exaggerated joking aside, I do love JRPGs and am always on the lookout for any intriguing potentials from its massive library.)\
Tumblr media
Crashmo: I mean, I already got Pushmo. I did pick up Stretchmo, but I'm not going to waste more money buying the packs that come with it. These are enough and like the Box Boy series, they're games that'll do on a whim.
Tumblr media
Dillon's Rolling Western: Honestly, I don't care about tower defense games and even though this is one of the rare, new Nintendo IP (well, "new", this game came out a decade ago, which says a lot about Nintendo's reliance on tried-and-true franchises nowadays), I don't particular find the artwork or setting (I can take or leave westerns) appealing. I guess I'm getting it since it's a digital-only game and I'm not confident I'll see any of these ported or remastered to newer consoles anytime soon. Who knows, maybe I'll dig it. I'm also kind of kicking myself, because when I purchased Dillon, I thought I got the first game. What I accidentally bought was its sequel (The Last Ranger), and me being a stickler to try and play the very first game whenever possible, double dipped to get Game 1. So I guess I have two Dillon games. I guess. :/
Tumblr media
Dragon Quest VIII: I have no excuse for this one. I have literally played the PS2 demo before it first came out almost twenty damn years ago, impressed as hell, and dead set on buying a copy when it came out. Then I got lazy. Then they announced the 3DS version and I was dead set on getting that. Then I got lazy. And now, both physical copies of the game went soaring up in price. Only now have I finally moved my ass and fulfilled a promise to my nineteen-year-old self to get this goddamn game. I've only played the DQ Builders series, so this will be my first mainstream DQ game... unless I get to DQ11 first, which I got for my Switch a while back. In any case, I couldn't pass up on entry number 8, the one that people cite as "one of the best in the series." Which... well, I can't compare since I'm both Dragon and Questless, but I am looking forward to a fun role-playing experience.
Tumblr media
Ever Oasis: My criteria for getting most of these games were, "Will it be difficult to buy on ebay that it's just better to get the cheaper digital version because no one has heard about this hidden gem?" Hence Ever Oasis.
Tumblr media
Fantasy Life: Ditto this, too. I've been told Fantasy Life and the one before, Ever Oasis, are JRPGs with farm/town management and I'm moth to a flame for both genres, but even more so when combined.
Tumblr media
Kid Icarus: Uprising: Generally, I try to play at least one major Nintendo franchise unless I reaaaaaaaally don't care for its aesthetic or genre (Yeah, I'm good, F-Zero.) The bar is admittedly low for Kid Icarus since prior to the 3DS game, the series only had two games from nearly thirty years ago and I just do not have the time or patience nowadays to play a lot of 80s-era games. I'm fine if my only Kid Icarus exposure is the new version that comes with a hat.
Tumblr media
Picross 3D Round 2/Pokemon Picross: My other criteria is to find the digital-only 3DS exclusive that may or may not ever come out in other consoles, such as the Picross series. I didn't buy all of them because there's like twenty dang versions. I picked up Pokemon Picross because it's free and Picross 3D because it looks neat and different from the 98% 2D versions out there. I fucking love Picross.
Tumblr media
Pocket Card Jockey: I wasn't going to get this game because it supposedly came out for phones, but I couldn't find the damn thing in my android's store. So I just got it on the 3DS. I like Solitaire. And it was seven dollars. *shrugs*
Tumblr media
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology: It's a JRPG that uses time travel as its gameplay gimmick, 'nuff said. I should play Chrono Trigger again.
Tumblr media
Rhythm Heaven Megamix: I've never played a Rhythm Heaven game before, but I've been told if I didn't buy at least one, Rhythm Heaven will personally come into my apartment and break my kneecaps.
Tumblr media
Rhythm Thief: The Emperor's Treasure: I've heard the game has some issues, but it's a Lovable Rogue thief wearing a sharp as fuck suit wrapped up in a theater's kid rhythm game. It was a thousand times designed for me and my aesthetic.
Tumblr media
Rusty's Real Deal Baseball: Honestly, I think I just want it for the novelty than anything else. I'm aware this game will be totally useless come the 27th, but I don't wanna buy its micro-transcation-before-micro-transcation-were-a-thing mini-games, so I guess it'll remain forever in my 3DS as the little oddball that it is. I'm alright with that.
Tumblr media
Yo-Kai Watch: Boy, I'm gonna really regret it if I only bought the first game in the series, end up liking it so much, and then crying because the physical copies of its sequels are currently forty billion dollars on ebay. I got to admit, this carries some serious Dubbed-By-4kids energy, which either means it's gonna be annoying or charmingly cheesy. But also, I kind of bought it because the game's art style got me nostalgic for 90s-era anime. It certainly looks fun for that alone.
I also got Demos for Chibi-Robo: Photo Finder (just to experience at least one Chibi-Robo game), The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes (I've been told you can play by yourself, it's just not recommended, and since I'm a single-player kinda gal, I might as well test out the demo and see how clunky the solo session supposedly is), Bravely Second (sure, why not), and Puzzles and Dragons: Super Mario Bros Edition (suuuuure, why not?)
There are other 3DS games I'd love to get, but those are going to be physical hunts later down the line. Some I know will still be easy to nab (The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds), others probably shovelware that I can find in a bargain bin (Doctor Lautrec and the Forbidden Knights), and others ebay is selling at a higher price than normal, but I still might want (Warioware Gold), etc etc.
Regardless, I feel like I picked out a nice selection of games that will tide me over whenever I get the chance to play them. I guess it was, ultimately, a happy hunt for me. Buy physicals whenever you can. Don't be like me, who has to resort to digital-only for these games because I waited till the last damn minute.
...WiiU? What about the WiiU?

Hi! I havent played the tlou game myself but i watched gameplays of it. And i think I might have skipped the part where Joel found the files and audio tapes where they mentioned about the people they killed before Ellie. (I skipped the gamplay a little because it was 11 house long 😅) I was wondering if you know where I can look for it. It's interesting that the Fireflies kept a record of it.
Have a nice day!
So you can find some here. Note that it's a remastered version, before other remastered versions. Some people argue that on the PS3 it was even different, I personally don't know about that one, because I didn't have a PS3. You can find the files on Youtube here. Important to note that yes, it's made very vague how many people and what kind of people they experimented on. Obviously animals and infected people. But let's also note that it's implied that they've worked on this for years, talking about different stages of infection, varying components to their tests and all: we can only speculate since it's never clearly stated, but they experimented a lot, and probably not just on infected people. It's purposely left vague for reasons, and again and again it shows how The Fireflies were failing. There is also this quote "All of our sacrifices and the hundreds of men and women who've bled for this cause, or worse, will not be in vain." you could interpret it as the Fireflies' sacrifices, their men and women fighting against FEDRA. But it could also totally mean totally different things since it comes from Jerry Anderson, aka, the guy who was doing experiments on people to find a cure. Again, the game never clarifies on these issues, so it's basically up to the player's interpretation on the moment. Yknow, while you're in the hospital, with people doing scientifical experimentation. https://thelastofus.fandom.com/wiki/Surgeon%27s_recorder Now ofc there is this recording and you could argue that you're supposed to see it as OH BUT ELLIE IS DIFFERENT, but they also make Jerry Anderson, aka the main surgeon who was supposed to work on Ellie, literally say he didn't even KNOW where Ellie's immunity was coming from or how it was working? ("The cause of her immunity is uncertain.") And we're supposed to believe he was capable of doing anything constructive? But it clearly shows as well how desperate they were, and how they were counting their time. It also states how they hadn't had any breakthrough in their researches in 5 years, again, explaining their desperation when coming face to face with some scientifical curiosity like Ellie. I gotta give it to them, contrary to the show for example, the recordings show that at least they did some basic tests on Ellie before drawing conclusions. But as these tests' results and Jerry's interpretation of it show ("The cause of her immunity is uncertain."), they still don't even know how Ellie's immunity works, yet they're minutes away from killing her, basically taking a shot in the dark? (to note: this recording is found by Joel in the hospital itself, it really is the result of the doctor's last researches on Ellie). But the recordings (like this one and that one) also show how there were glaring evidences of the Fireflies having dissidence within their own ranks, how many officers saw their leaders as incompetent and delusional. It's important to note that these recordings are found at the University, so equivalent of when Joel gets hurt at the end of 1x06: the guy in the recording clearly states that their best equipment is here, at the University, with the lab equipment. Not where the Fireflies fled (after several attacks by infected -- and maybe even because of their own researches, because of the monkeys they infected for their experiments??), in the hospital where you end the game. It gives context to everything that lead the Fireflies into acting as they did when they got Ellie. It's not clear cut and it never was in the first game, but they clearly had added complicated layers to this whole cunnundrum, on both sides. You weren't meant to blindly trust the Fireflies. The game purposely put elements in its own narrative to make the player question their motives and their abilities to reach their goal. It was meant to be weighed against the very real fact of having Ellie die in the process. I guess it's up to everyone's interpretation *shrugs* and it was, until Neil Druckmann popped in, erasing anything that wasn't fitting his narrative.

King’s Quest: Quest for the Crown | Part 1
Tumblr media
The Adventurer’s Log
King’s Quest I: Quest for the Crown Part 1
Release Date: 1984 (original version)
Introduction
Ahh, King’s Quest, the well-known series from Sierra, but while it’s a series I’ve known of for a long time, it’s a series I had never played nor even seen played until these past couple months.
I came across the Youtube channel, Such Minutiae, and started watching their Lets Plays of the series. Come King’s Quest V and VI I decided I was interested in at least giving those two a play. On GOG they come bundled with KQIV and I figured, why not? I could give IV a shot too. Then this idea to start blogging my efforts struck and I thought, you know what? Why not start right from the beginning and grab the first three games after all, too? Throw in them being on sale and here we are.
Now, as noted, I watched a Let’s Play, so this won’t be a blind play. However, this particular game is a different version from what I watched. They played the Sierra Creative Interpreter (SCI) version which was a sort of remake/remaster. I’m playing the older AGI game and aside from graphical differences there are other differences as well. I probably won’t be able to spot a lot of them, but there is one different puzzle solution I’m aware of and I’ll make note of it when I come to it along with anything else that sticks out to me.
Having already watched the games be played I expect this will go a lot smoother than it otherwise would, but that I will still have some hangups. There is some real bullshit in these games, so it’s nice to go in prepared, accept that and enjoy the ride. And die a lot. I intend to keep a death counter. That will be noted at the end of the posts.
Let’s get to it, shall we?
The first thing I noticed when I loaded it for a simple quick test, was that unlike the SCI version there is no intro scene. It dumps you right into the game and you gotta go into the castle yourself and talk to the King yourself to know what you’re doing.
So the first step is to go see the king and so the quest begins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And so the quest ends
Come on now, I couldn’t not throw him in the moat. Also, the death music! It’s different in the SCI version. I know this music because it was also used in KQ II. It starts sombre with Chopin’s Death March and then… oh and then it transitions to I don’t actually know what it’s called, but it sure clowns on you. Please just go to this link https://youtu.be/AWvZNAv4_B8?t=527 I have it timestamped to the right place already and know my suffering. The most taunting thing ever. I love hate it.
Okay back to it for real. Go see the king and be told what your quest actually is:
Tumblr media
If you want further backstory and more details, you better read that manual.
From the manual in summary:
The kingdom of Daventry was ruled over by King Edward and his nameless, but lovely! Queen. They held three magic treasures that served to help Daventry maintain its peace and prosperity:
A Magic Mirror that reads the future so they were able to use it to stave off disasters and avoid things like planting crops right before frosts.
A Magic Shield that is supposed to make the bearer invincible and his army always victorious.
A Magic Chest that always remained full of gold.
Then disasters start striking. They want an heir but haven’t been able to have a child. A sorcerer comes and offers a solution but wants the mirror in return. They consult the mirror and see what they think will be their future prince (spoiler alert: It’ll be Sir Graham). They agree. No child is ever born. The Sorcerer ran off with mirror and placed it under guard by a beast.
Later the Queen falls ill. A dwarf offers a remedy that looks like it’ll work but wants the shield in return. The King agrees. The dwarf runs off with the shield. The Queen dies.
The King grows lonely as more years pass, but eventually Edward comes across a beautiful lady, the Princess Dahlia (she gets a name) in need of help. He saves her. They plan to wed and now it’s the night before the wedding except whoops. She was actually a witch and planned to steal the chest all along which she successfully does and off she goes too.
More years pass with the King and Daventry falling into despair and disrepair. King Edward realizes he may die soon and summons his knight, Sir Graham, realizing it was him he saw in the mirror. If Graham can gather back Daventry’s three treasures he’ll prove himself worthy of the crown and become the King foreseen in the mirror. Time to go Questing.
--
Once you see the king it’s time to set out and start exploring. I set out, I pushed a rock and died because I pushed it from the wrong side and got crushed. And I forgot to save, so I basically had to start again, although ScummVM autosaved me in the hallway in the castle, so I got to skip entering the castle.
Then I set out again and remembered to save this time. Save regularly and keep multiple saves. Now something cool that King’s Quest does is having some puzzles with multiple solutions. There is a points system and to get the highest points you need to do the optimal solutions. If you don’t care about points you’ve potentially got other options.
After finding a dagger and a pouch of diamonds I quickly encountered a flying condor. This condor is mandatory but unfortunately it’s random as to when and where it will show up. I managed to jump and catch the ride while I could, except I ended up in a dead end because I didn’t have what was needed to get past a big mean ol’ rat. I did try offering it the diamonds, which worked, except I think it actually lost me points and I would have ended up stuck again anyway. I reloaded a previous save.
Tumblr media
Thanks for the dead-end, condor, but fly on majestically.
My other activities included more exploration and finding more items, getting mauled by an ogre at least once or twice and managing to run away another time, some sorcerer encounters one of which left me frozen in place and essentially dead, got flown off by a witch and eaten, stolen from by a dwarf a couple times and got some temporary protection from a fairy.
I found a four-leaf clover and a walnut. I climbed a huge tree and found a golden egg. Surprisingly for how easy it is to die in other ways, falling off the tree doesn’t kill you. The egg doesn’t break either. Shockingly nice of them.
Moving on, I helped a starving woodcutter husband and his wife and got a fiddle in return. I got lucky in doing those two activities, and along with finding one other item, I earned everything I needed to deal with the rat and the rest of that area and shortly after getting those needed goods the condor showed up again. So, this time I was able to handle everything there and got my first treasure: the Magic Shield.
I was able to find the witch’s house, a gingerbread house naturally, and deal with her accordingly. Actually, I had to do it twice, because fumble fingers for me killed me again oops. This place was another big difference from the SCI version. In the SCI version there are gingerbread figures outside the house and of course the house just looks better. If she catches you Graham gets turned into gingerbread and she puts you outside with a punny Graham cracker death message. In this version you just get put in a cell and know you’re about to get eaten and that’s that. I did miss that in this version.
Tumblr media
Not exactly gingerbread-y on the inside. In the SCI version that oven is a cauldron.
I still have a bridge troll to deal with, but I have the means to do so and that’ll open up more areas to explore. I also found a well I haven’t checked out yet as well. I’ll probably try for the well first then go for the troll.
Tumblr media
I’m coming for you, troll.
I’ve been mapping as I go and I’m very glad I’m doing so. I’m sure I’d be getting lost if I hadn’t. There are many screens and quite a few are pretty nondescript.
With the huge caveat that I’ve watched this played before, I’m having a pretty good time. Sure, it’s primitive. It’s easy to die, ridiculously so at times. It can be easy to screw yourself over into an unwinnable state in these games, but if you go in with that knowledge and stay on top of your saves, it’s entertaining.
With deaths by: moat alligators, falling into unswimmable water, ogre, sorcerer, witch, rock crushing I am currently sitting a death counter of 15. I’m a little worried I may have forgotten to update it a couple times so it may be a death or two higher than 15. Three of those were deliberate.
I probably only have one, maaaybe two sessions left.
Death Counter: 15
Time Played: 1hr 35min
Current Points Score: 86/158

Okay, I know Hien is like, the future king of Doma, so it makes sense that they introduce him with Cyan's theme, but the remastered theme kinda caught me by surprise and is just making me misty eyed.
Which, I think is actually a disservice to this character and this game's version of Doma. There were fun references and nice nods up until now, but WOOF, directly inviting comparison through invoking Cyan with his theme is... a helluva lot of pressure to put on Hien's shoulders.
I'm not misty eyed from thinking about this Doma or this samurai's struggles, I'm misty eyed because I remember Cyan overcoming his profound grief and despair and finding new reasons to live and saving those he could.
Idk. Just feels like cheap nostalgia-bait, which is a shame because the game hasn't really indulged in too much of that yet. I mean, yeah, nostalgia NODS aplenty, usually in fun goofy things or the usual "Gotta have a cid," or visual designs, but nothing quite THIS directly tied to your buy-in on the narrative. Especially disappointing because the original music for this game is SO good. I feel like they could have incorporated ELEMENTS from Cyan's theme, without just... straight up putting the whole thing in there.
Mreh. Whatever.
At least it sounds good.

You have to feed your pet again tomorrow. You gotta know how your favorite show ends. You still have to take your friend out for drinks since you promised that like, forever ago. You still need to finish that drawing. You still got to play that game that’s been in your wishlist for years. And i still got to show you the art i’m making for you. Xoxo
I have roommates who can feed him.
I can pretty much guess how it ends.
She has her boyfriend now. She doesn’t need me anymore.
No one will see it, anyway.
It’s just a remastered version of what I’ve already played a thousand times over.

Lacuna Coil rant incoming!!!
Ok, ok first of all I need to say that Comalies is my first album of them, I knew them at that time. So I'm very protective about this album and even though Black Anima has became my favourite album of them, Comalies hold a special place in my heart no other of their albums have. I always has been a playlist girl since my first mp3 more than a "listen to bands by albums", I'm like "listen to the album when it comes out and then throw all the songs in a shuffle playlist with absolute opposite music in it" but Comalies is among the albums I regularly come back to listen for the sake of the album.
I must say I really love the direction the band have taken these past years. I know they have been through rough times and lineups change and I think each members have brought something to the band. But the chore three has been there since the beginning and it's probably why despite changing they always have felt like themselves. And yes I know about the Spellbound era. Gotta say even though it's not my favourite it's not as bad as people make it seems but anyway.
So Thight Rope XX it is ABSOLUTELY INSANELY GOOD and if the whole album is remade this way it's gonna be sick. Like sure the original is the original and nothing beats that. But I just love how they made it a modern version of it. I love heavier LC and Iove how well it works with their old songs (jfc twenty years that's insane). It works so well that's amazing! I love that the song sounds different, it's so much more interesting that just remastering the audio. Yet the last chorus sounds so similar to the original version, I got caught in a nostalgic loop (I mean coil ahah). Cristina's vocals are so good! I mean she always has been good. Saw them live and I couldn't believe my ears. But of course in twenty years you get better. Also Andrea's harsher vocals works so well for him. He's a big part of why LC sounds heavier today and he should get more recognition. I also loved his softer vocals but the duality between the two voices works even better now than twenty years ago imo.
Also I can't wait to hear Angels Punishment XX with harsh vocals it's gonna be sick!
Anyway I can't wait to hear the entire album. It's gonna be so interesting and fun to listen to. I bet it's gonna be a great version. And LC is gonna prove one more time why they have been such a successful band in more than twenty years of career.
So yes I love Lacuna Coil so much 😌
