i don’t know if i’ll ever emotionally recover from obi wan looking at his lover and realizing that person isn’t there anymore. the heartbreak in his eyes after being told that vader killed anakin, WHILE HEARING remnants of anakin’s voice, is like no other. obi wan finally understood AND accepted that he’s never getting back his soulmate, no water how hard he tries.

obi wan does, however, get to experience the qualities of anakin, his partner/lover/padawan/twin flame, through his time with leia, and his time with luke in the future. i can’t imagine the emotion of looking over and seeing something anakin would do, while looking at his child and knowing that person is gone. just the depths of obi wan is unreal.

also i will never stop talking about his laugh with leia before leaving her, the sparkle of joy that he has finally found after letting go of anakin

I’m somewhat amazed that no one picked up on Obi Wan calling him Darth. Not only does it mean that, in Obi Wan’s heart, his friend is truly gone, but it also explains why he calls him Darth in  ANH AND it’s a complete BURN IN THE 3RD DEGREE.

The way they used the light of Obi Wan’s lightsaber to mirror Anakin/Darth Vader during their confrontation seen is just *chef’s kiss*.  The way we see half Anakin and half Vader and whenever we cut back to Obi Wan its mirrored in blue and red light? The part where Anakin fades and Vader consumes him and we see Obi Wan’s face completely bathed in blue? What a great way to subconsciously promote the idea of empathy and connection Obi Wan has for his former Padawan as well as the moment he is forced to close the door and see Vader as the murderer of his friend.

This scene absolutely gutted me.

Obi-Wan faces Vader with the resolute decision that he will end him, but seeing his face without the mask - that glimpse of the man he used to know is enough to send him spiraling into guilt and tears for the brother he failed.

And Vader is usually so cold and ruthless in the words he chooses...but these words come out almost sad. They sound resigned. They're the words of a man who takes responsibility for everything he has done and will continue to do. He's absolving Obi-Wan of the guilt, which is ultimately the last act of kindness he could do to his former master. The little bit of Anakin seeping through Vader and the voice distortion just-

“the obi wan show was bad and not good” okay maybe so but we got another scene of vader with his mask split open during a fight with a former loved one (but this time on a DIFFERENT side) and then he tells obi wan that he didn’t do anything wrong and obi wan cries again and his voice breaks so it’s the best show of all time
