"The fey eladrin were the most powerful of the eladrin, a subrace of elves who adopted the Feywild as their home. After centuries of exposure to that plane's magic, they acquired supernatural abilities not seen on most of their kin from the Prime Material plane and were effectively transformed into fey. Sometimes called noble eladrin, they were capable of changing their physical appearance and powers according to their mood, assuming characteristics of the seasons.

When in their Spring Phase they were at their joyous and most benevolent. Their skin, hair and eyes would take on the green hues of spring, they would love song, dance and the arts and happily help those in need."

I think they should be allowed to have bright colors for festivals and stuff. Yeah, I get needing desert camouflage when your neighbors are Mad Max Adjacent, but when you're inside the walls, why not liven it up a little?

Jak getting adopted in Faulty Info is a good enough reason for fancier clothes 😉

I love writing characters that communicate differently, because my verbal ability varies wildly from day to day and I like giving my characters parts of me.

Adya mimics and mimes. They repeat back the last word or sound they heard and gesture with their hands to communicate.

Ihzi can speak in full sentences but that exhausts her and makes her feel uncomfortable and unsafe, so she uses her own dialect, and just uses the single words to get her point across.

Sai communicates with sign language, or by her Esteem, Sana, taking over their body and speaking verbally.

Raza has so many accents and languages and dialects crammed into them that they struggle to sound like they're from one place and people often struggle to understand them when they get excited and talk fast.

Tola understands Eorzean but only speaks Drivanian, relying on Ysayle to translate what's necessary to the people around them.

Nergui has a very intense stutter, so often tries to shorten her sentences so she can get them out quicker, avoiding words with W or S sounds as they make it worse.

All of these characters have varying education and intelligence levels. Nergui is an Archon, Ihzi stopped getting any education at age 5, but none of that is related to their methods of communication.

Sometimes I get self conscious, as when I've written characters with alternate communication in the past, people have accused me of ableism and mockery, when I'm only trying to give voice to my own experiences.

So I decided to swap Raen's parents species after all. Made his father, Cian, in game. Some interesting things about Cian:

He was once a sith by the name of Darth Astrum. When Raen had been conceived he had decided he did not want any child of his to be raised sith like he had been.

Raen's mother was against this and since the war was still raging staged his assassination only for him to survive but with 0 memories.

He was saved by Master Gnost Dural and trained by him in the ways of the jedi.

Cian is not his real name, he still does not know who he was prior to joining the jedi. The name comes from him hearing a child ask him why he had cyan colored skin even though his skin is not even close to that colour.

Ironically he knows Raen very well as he had originally wanted to train him after sensing that they shared a bond. His request was denied by the council.

"What's that?" Raza twisted their head, eyes following Pura's finger to the scrap of cloth sticking out of one of their outer pockets. They pulled it free and unfurled it, showing Pura the wings sewn to the scrap.

"It's uh," they paused, thinking of how best to explain what it was. "I grew up a Gleaner," they said, ignoring the way their insides twisted and they prepared for derision and cruelty, "this 'elps us identify each other out in t'world," they folded the scrap and tucked it back into their pocket. "I ain't 'ad need o'it fer a few years, but I carry it anyway. Never know when I'll meet one on t'road an' need their 'elp." Raza couldn't look at Pura. They hated that they couldn't have pride in the fact that they were brought up a Gleaner. They hated that they expected the worse of Pura, who'd given them no reason to think she'd react as others had before.

"Cool," Pura offered Raza out the pot of polish she was holding for them, "I'll keep an eye out in case anyone else has one then."
