"THeY stOle SteveBucky moments!"
You say with your whole chest while replacing Peggy's picture in the compass, using "You're late." line, photoshopping Peggy out of the kiss scene in Endgame and generally acting like she never ever existed or was of any importance to Steve.
I know it's not the same, but still, you get the gist

"Rise" Chapter One by Senashenta
Tumblr media
Fandom: MCU
Pairing: Stucky
Warnings: Gets explicit later on.
Summary: Bucky is an Angel of Death, but when Heaven experiences a shortage of Guardian Angels, he's pulled from his reaping duties to become a Guardian himself, charged with protecting the one-and-only Captain America. Between pulling Steve out of fires and catching his ass when he jumps out of airplanes without a parachute, Bucky thinks he might just have a stroke... but he also might just be falling in love at the same time.
Notes: This is based off a prompt from @writing-prompt-s that said “Due to a shortage in guardian angels, God has issued an official decree. All angels must enroll in the guardian program under threat of banishment. You are the angel of death.”

RISE Chapter One By Senashenta
This was Bucky’s worst nightmare.
Admittedly, Heaven had a bit of a problem in the Guardian Angel department; bluntly put, they had none. Being a Guardian was dangerous, and over the previous few decades, between wars, famine, natural disasters and anything else the Earth could dish out, the majority of their ranks had been decimated, lost to the violence the world below was capable of producing.
The problem was that Guardians didn’t just grow on trees like the proverbial apple, and even if they did, it took a hell off a long time to train them. But they were still needed. The humans, living their lives in the mortal coil, had no idea how often Guardian Angels were there to whisk them away from danger—lately often at the cost of their own lives. And while any Guardian worth his salt would do so without a second thought, it meant that their numbers were dwindling, leaving humanity more and more vulnerable by the day… and that just couldn’t stand.
That was where Bucky came in.
He was not a Guardian by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, he was about the most opposite of a Guardian as you could get; he was an Angel of Death. His kind, while naturally less numerous than some of the other Angel classes, were still doing fine. In fact, with all the catastrophes going on on Earth, business in his neck of the woods was downright booming.
It was a Death Angel’s job to administer the final Touch when a person was dying, to snuff out of the last spark of life, and then to escort their spirit to it’s final resting place in Heaven. They kept Earth as free of wandering souls as possible, while giving a measure of peace to those who had just departed from life.
Bucky was good at his job, and he liked it. Which is why he was so pissed off when he found out he was being pulled from his regular duties and put into Guardian Angel rotation.
He wasn’t the only one, of course. A lot of Angels from all the different classes were yanked out of their comfortable positions and shoved into the role of Guardians. Unceremoniously, at that. And Bucky understood that they had a reason for doing it—Guardians were an important part of keeping the Earth running smoothly, making sure important people were protected, and at the moment they were dying off at an unprecedented rate. He knew that all too well.
That still didn’t mean he had to like it.
To say Bucky wasn’t a “people person” was more than just an understatement. In his job heralding death and escorting souls, there had been very little interaction with his charges; just enough to explain what was going on (confusion was a common occurrence in the first moments immediately after death) and then to say goodbye when they reached Heaven and he sent them on their way.
Guardians, on the other hand, had to live among humans constantly, only returning to Heaven occasionally to give reports to their superiors. Certainly, and thankfully, they were invisible to humankind unless they wished to be seen, but they were still surrounded by people, by the crush of humanity and the crowded world their lived in. Bucky preferred a quiet life, one where he didn’t feel like he was constantly being boxed in, trapped.
Not that he had a choice in the matter. He had orders, and if he disobeyed the punishment was banishment, losing his Grace and his wings, being cast from Heaven altogether. That simply wasn’t an option, as far as Bucky was concerned. Heaven was his home and had been for as long as he could remember—what would he even do, if he was forced to leave? To live a human life? He wouldn’t even know where to begin.
Which was why he had shown up to the orientation, then training, determined but with a frown on his face the entire time.
It only got worse when they had to alter his tattoo, a full sleeve of designs that ran from his wrist to his shoulder on his left arm; the intricate patterns and designs were complex spell work, and enabled him to perform magic, mostly simple but some more powerful. Angels’ tattoos were how they were able to make themselves invisible to humans, for example, or how he, as a Death Angel, had been able to Touch people to reap their souls.
Now the complex linework on his arm was being changed, taking away some of his previous abilities and opening up new ones for him. He didn’t like it. He didn’t like any of it. Watching his tattoo become something else entirely was like losing a part of his identity, a part of himself. It made discomfort coil and curl in his stomach.
At least they weren’t taking his wings.
Black as night with feathers edged as sharp as knives, they were formidable weapons, both defensive and offensive. More than that, they helped regulate his body temperature, keeping him warm when it was cold out and cool when it was too hot. He didn’t think he could have handled it if they had tried to tamper with his wings on top of everything else.
It was bad enough when they locked the silver bracelet around his right wrist—every Guardian Angel wore one, it chained them to their duties and served as a homing beacon to their charge down on Earth, the runes carved in it glowing faintly when said person was nearby.
Bucky sighed and fiddled with the bracelet absently, tugging at it as his frown deepened, creasing deeply around his mouth and between his eyebrows.
“James.”
He still responded to his given name, even though he preferred to go by ‘Bucky’, mostly because several of the higher-ups insisted on calling him that, refusing to use his nickname. So when a voice called for him, he stopped twisting the bracelet around his wrist restlessly and looked up.
He recognized Peggy right away. She had been the one to tell him about his reassignment, and while he wasn’t happy with the entire debacle, he couldn’t exactly blame her for it. She was just doing her job. When God decreed something, no one could do anything but obey, no matter how high-ranking an Angel they might be.
Now, Peggy approached him with a small, vague smile on her face. Bucky had to admit she seemed nice enough. Put together, her hair pulled back neatly and not a single one of her snow white feathers out of place. When she reached his side she paused and waved for him to hold his arm out. “Let me see.”
Bucky held his left arm out for her, waiting while she inspected the new spells that had been worked into his tattoo design before eventually giving a little nod of satisfaction. She patted his arm and he dropped it back to his side, even as she was taking his other hand and lifting it up to have a quick look at his new bracelet, making sure it was properly secured.
“Are you nervous?”
“I don’t want to do this.” Bucky’s frown returned again. “I’m not a Guardian.”
Peggy gave him a sympathetic smile, “you are now. You passed all the training and tests. And we need all the Guardians we can get right now.”
A sigh. “So I’ve been told.”
“Just try to make the best of it.” Peggy advised; “people watch. Maybe enjoy some food. Just make sure to take care of your charge.” Her voice took on a serious tone, then, and she added firmly, “this is important, James. The man you’re going to be watching over is a pivotal person in the world right now, and has been for decades. We’re counting on him being around for a long time yet to come as well. You need to take special precautions with him.”
Bucky shifted from one foot to the other, giving Peggy an incredulous look. Why in the hell would they be giving him someone so apparently important to watch over for his very first assignment? Surely someone with more experience would have been a better choice. Or maybe the ranks for the Guardian Angels were worse off than he’d actually realised.
“Okay, so who is he?”
Peggy reached out to tap his bracelet. The runes began to glow a faint red color, signifying that his charge was far away. She looked back up at him and squared her shoulders. “You’re being assigned to Steven Grant Rogers.”
Bucky nearly swallowed his tongue. “Captain America?”
“Yes.” She nodded and lifted a hand to pat against his chest lightly, then offered, “it won’t be easy. His last Guardian quit outright in the middle of his assignment, it was quite the scene. So all I can say is good luck.”
Good luck? Yeah. He was going to fucking need it.

Peggy knew everything he wasn’t saying.
They were the only ones left of their merry little band, and… she understood what he meant. They still had family, and it felt almost like home—but nothing ever would without the others. Without her Daniel and her Angie, and without Steve's Bucky and their Howlies.
“Yes,” she agreed, leaning her cheek against his shoulder, taking comfort in his presence. “Almost.”

Headcanon :: The Dynamic Duo :: Steve and Bucky
This headcanon is based as a sort of meta but also default for my dynamic’s between Steve and Bucky. Please note two things, firstly this is adaptable as varying portrayals obviously have different canons and styles and secondly it is a basis for mainly my MCU default verse.
As such, if parts of it weren’t in your canon, or you really love the MCU dynamic you don’t have to worry but also please be aware this isn’t gushy and St.ucky praising. Because on this blog I will spill truth about Bucky no matter the cold chill it takes to swallow it.
Don’t worry though it has soft openings and a chance to be better. I’m just not a popular sugar coater whoops.
So on we go!
1940′s the Brooklyn Boys:
Bucky meets Steve as a young teen, helping him get out of a tight spot during a fight and taking him back to his mothers diner for patching up. The two bond quickly over sciences, technology, an enjoyment of games and a want for a better tomorrow. Becoming best friends is easy, and Bucky cared for Steve like he did all of those closest to him.
This care extended to helping Steve in other ways, some he didn’t know about. As Steve’s illnesses became worse the Rogers were struggling with paying for the multitude of medication. Already having a paper route Bucky knew it wouldn’t give much, so he began looking for a second job.
The one he found wasn’t the best of things, or entirely legal. Bucky ended up boxing for money. Already having the athleticism and training for it from his self defence classes (his mothers insistence with the turning tides of society, his father wasn’t fond of it but understood) meant that he was good. Good enough to stay alive anyway, and good enough to make some bucks from it.
Steve’s parents didn’t ask and he didn’t tell where and how when he turned up with the medication. Glad for the help, and happy to help the silence worked well and Bucky got to see his best friend keep going and well enough to be the fighting little shit he was.
Now at this point in my portrayal Bucky doesn’t have romantic feelings for Steve. More he doubles as both a carer and a friend. It’s platonic, but intense due to the twist that comes when your life revolves around keeping someone else alive. You’ve got to understand, between boxing for Steve, fighting people with Steve, spending time with Steve and studying with Steve almost 80% of his day was wholly and entirely given to Steve who became a major part of his daily routine and life. That’s important later so keep it in mind.
The War:
Being drafted was what changed Steve and Bucky’s dynamic, oddly enough. Away from Steve for an extended period of time, with the memories of games and the comfort of his friend Bucky did what a lot of people do when memories all they got.
He got rose tinted glasses.
Steve became a sort of safe space mentally along with his family, to the point that Bucky’s feeling to Steve went from the role of carer and friend to more romantic in nature. Separation makes the heart fonder and all that.
When Steve then saved him from Hydra the first time, Bucky’s mental romanticisation of Steve lingered into something close to hero worship that most people experience when being helped. Attraction comes with it. At this point, Bucky is inexplicitely heart eyes and willing to follow Steve into deadly hydra operations against any and all form of fucking logic. But hey, they’ve got their best friends back! Yay!
God don’t we wish that lasted.
TWS onwards:
Breaking conditioning isn’t easy. Contrary to MCU belief a cutesy hand touch from a pretty redhead you potentially banged one night wont do it will i ever not drag mcu? no It’s got to be something substantial enough that your mind has made it a long term memory, not a short term one.
Steve is that substantial memory.
For Bucky, Steve was 80% of his daily life for years, and then someone who saved his life, who he was very likely in love with, who he idealised. Steve was a long term memory and oof did that come back with a vengeance.
The only problem we have here is that whilst Bucky’s memory is jagged pieces and he feels affection for Steve, it’s not at strong or as all consuming as war Bucky had it. Think of it like the difference between seeing someone you love in person, and waking up from a dream you can’t really remember but you knew they were in it. You still feel warm, but you’re not all that sure why or how warm.
Steve however, is now in the situation War Bucky was in. Idealisation and Romanticising of memories and lost potential. Or, rose tinted glasses.
Problem with rose tinted glasses? They have the potential to make you blind, and in like in this case, make things worse.
Steve and Bucky’s dynamic becomes toxic. Yeah, yeah I embrace the rumble of an angry fandom with a smile as I walk back into the truth of hell. It WAS toxic and you can quote me on that.
Here’s why though since I’m going all out with this.
Steve is currently in a stage of denial, and likely due to his PTSD though remember kids mental illness isn’t an excuse to be an asshole, is currently desperately trying to cling to his image of Bucky that is right now being shredded by reality.
Bucky’s popping his Bucky bubble and Steve isn’t taking it well, it sucks all around, especially for us watching.
Steve is currently Bucky’s only source of information about his past and his identity, Bucky trusts him because the memory of trusting Steve is a strong and driving factor. Steve meanwhile is driven by having his Bucky back.
In any way.
Even if for instance he has to traumatise him into reliving potentially false memories, degrade him when he doesn’t fit the mould the way Steve wants, i will fight him for the “that’s not good enough” line alone try and stop me to outright just dismissing anything Bucky says or wants and gaslighting him into “no, no I know better! I know YOU” ( “i’m not bucky” “yes you are” “no im not” “you fucking well will be even if I have to drag you through a civil war and to wakanda by your pigtails” ring any bells?)
NOW DON’T GET ME WRONG I DON’T THINK STEVE DOES IT DELIBERATELY. Please don’t confuse me here, I’m not saying Steve is a deliberate piece of shit, only that in his own desperation he accidentally becomes the worst possible way of helping.
And uh, well, it kinda goes downhill from there. Sadly because Steve tried to protect Bucky and in doing so lost the trust of Bucky. This is especially fitting in my portrayal where IW didn’t happen, so buckle in we’re on our last legs.
Steve lied to Tony about his parents yeah yeah we all know blah blah civil war BUT what people don’t want to talk about is that Steve didn’t just hide it from Tony. He hid it from Bucky also.
Look, when Bucky watches that Video not only does he go through pretty violent flash backs and border on a panic attack, but he also comes to the realisation that he can’t trust Steve to tell him the truth.
You can see it in the way he flinches back from Steve (who is closest, reaching out, and moves first) and the way he fully intends to bolt before the real fighting starts.
In my portrayal he steps in to try and break it up, and only fights against Tony when Tony actively starts gunning for his ass. Which is fair. Well, it’s not because neither should have been in that situation and it’s a shitty situation but like, it’s fair he’s defending himself.
BUT from there on Bucky has an issue, and that issue is that he doesn’t know who he is, he doesn’t trust his own memories and he knows he can not trust Steve to tell him all of it, or be honest about it, or to not keep things from him.
Which is why Wakanda happens. Bucky no longer trusts Steve, and it’s not safe for him to be out. So he willingly agree’s to be frozen for a while, and let them see if they can help. Now in my canon once unfrozen he slips out of the hold because he desperately needs to learn about himself without Steve’s influence or control over the story. He NEEDS to find himself, he doesn’t hate Steve but he needs that.
By my main verse Bucky isn’t on either side, he doesn’t fully trust either side and he’s moving alone to try and figure out who he is and who he wants to be. Whilst the affection remains for Steve, it’s not romantic at that time, and Steve will have to earn his trust back just like all the other people who have (inadvertently or not) manipulated him.
So that’s that! Thanks for making it this far, please come and cry with me about how both of them deserve better and then please give Bucky a friend he can trust, and also build a really dramatic and heart breaking reality stucky with me thank you.

Chapter Two: Dancing Cheek to Cheek (read first chapter here)
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Pairing: Steve Rogers x James “Bucky” Buchanan Barnes (Stucky)
Summary:  So much has changed in the seventy years that Steve was under, and now, in the 21st century, he realizes that he no longer has to hide those parts of himself that he used to.
But it isn't that easy, because when Bucky comes back into his life, he remembers all those feelings they’d had to hide back then that they wouldn’t have to now. But he isn't sure if that’s what Bucky wants - because it's been a while and feelings may have changed.
ao3 | ff.net | wattpad
One night, Steve was working late, looking over status reports from the offices of In the Light all over the country on the kitchen island. He heard soft footsteps in the hallway and looked up to see Bucky enter the kitchen. He wore a sleeveless shirt, pajama pants and the Darth Vader slippers Nat had given him as a ‘welcome to the Avengers’ gift (something about him also having a metal arm). From his lack of metal arm and how his hair was all flattened on one side, Steve could tell he had been sleeping.
“Hey,” Bucky said quietly.
“Hey,” Steve replied, intending to go back to his work, but he couldn’t help stealing glances as Bucky moved around the kitchen, grabbing the ingredients for hot chocolate.
It was so nice to see Bucky in a normal, homey environment in regular clothes. Something about it let Steve relax in a way that he hadn’t been able to in a long time.
As Bucky opened the cabinet, he looked over at Steve, who quickly ducked his head to look back down at the papers in front of him. When he dared to look back half a minute later, Bucky was smiling to himself as he prepared two mugs of hot chocolate.
Steve thought about saying something. He thought about saying many things – all the things he had wanted to say since he had found out Bucky was alive. All those old memories and old feelings that had resurfaced.
But the silence was nice too. There was no real awkwardness between them, just comfortable quiet.
Bucky leaned against the counter, watching the two mugs turn around each other inside the microwave – always the same distance apart.
Steve thought of the last time they were at a dance hall. They didn’t know it was the last time of course, just another Friday night – with Suzie and Maria this time.
Once they had danced with the girls for a little while – long enough to keep up the ruse of being their dates – they had gone to sit down and let the girls dance for a while. It was not entirely uncommon or improper for two girls to dance together for a bit, so no one really looked at them funny.
As he and Bucky had a drink, their fingers linked loosely under the table, hidden by the dark tablecloth. They spoke in low voices – loud enough that they could hear each other, but no one else could over the music.
Steve had been going on about something – he couldn’t remember what – but he remembered Bucky’s soft smile as he listened to him babble on.
At one point, his smile widened, and Steve stopped and asked, “What?”
Bucky grinned and looked down. “Nothing.”
Steve leaned closer, an elbow on the table. “Seriously, what?”
Buck looked up again, grip on Steve’s hand tightening a little, blue eyes soft and full of something. The corner of his mouth tugged up into ta half-smile. “I just like hearing you talk about things you’re passionate about.”
There had been a silence between them then too – a hopeful silence. It was skies the same colour as Bucky’s eyes, it was all those nights falling asleep and mornings waking up I the same cot, it was Bucky teasing him about his terrible coffee, it was Bucky singing at the top of his lungs until his mom kicked them out of the house for the afternoon. It was a feeling that looked towards the future. An apartment of their own where they could be themselves without hiding.
And when Suzie and Maria came over and asked them to dance, Steve and Bucky’s eyes found each other across the floor. Even though they spun around the room with the girls in their arms, never close enough to each other to touch, it felt like they were dancing together.
The beeping of the microwave brought Steve back to the present.
Bucky sat down across from him and put the steaming mug in front of Steve.
“Thanks,” he said with a smile, moving some papers aside.
“Deadline coming up?” Bucky asked after a few minutes.
Steve shook his head. “Just reports form the main offices.”
“Hope you’ve got some good accountants,” Bucky said, his voice echoing into his mug as he drained the last of the hot chocolate.
“Mm?”
Bucky grinned, putting the mug down. “You were always shit at math.”
Steve rolled his eyes. “Like you were any better.”
“Mrs. Monteiro thought I was a wonderful student,” Bucky said as he put his mug in the sink and rinsed it out.
“Mrs. Monteiro hated you, because you never did your homework – which is why you were bad at math.”
“Or maybe,” Bucky said, leaning over the island and resting on his elbows in front of Steve. “I didn’t do the homework because I was bad at math.”
Steve rolled his eyes again but couldn’t help but smile.
Then they held eye contact for a little too long and their faces were very close together. Steve thought he saw Bucky’s blue eyes flit down to his mouth for a second. And his lips were so dry all of a sudden, but he couldn’t like them, not now – that would be entirely too much.
And suddenly he was overthinking everything – with Bucky, the person he felt most comfortable around.
Bucky must have felt it too, because he cleared his throat and stood up straight. “Well, uh, goodnight Steve.”
“Goodnight, Buck,” Steve said, looking down into his half-full cup.
“And, Steve?”
He looked up. Bucky stood up in the doorway, looking like he wanted to come back in. “Yeah?”
The corner of his mouth tugged up a little, and that familiar softness returned to his eyes. “Get to bed soon, you look exhausted.”
Steve nodded. “I will.”
As Bucky’s soft footsteps retreated down the hall, Steve sighed and drew his fingers through his hair.
It was honestly ridiculous, the way he and Bucky were cautiously tiptoeing around each other. To everyone else, they seemed back to normal, thick as thieves, with inside jokes and entire conversations had without words – but they thought they had only been friends, nothing more.
And Steve wasn’t quite sure why. Back in the day, they had been sure about their feelings. Even during the war they’d understood each other.
About a week after that night at the dance hall, Bucky shipped out. Steve had always kind of wondered whether he’d already known that night and had just wanted to have one last fun night together without the knowledge hanging over them.
A few days later, they were both in the music room. Bucky had been trying to get back into piano since he’d moved in. Steve knew it was because playing had always relaxed him.
It had bene frustrating in the beginning, but eventually, with some design tweaks by Tony, Bucky had figured it out.
Now, a few months in, he could play as well as before.
Steve like to work in there when Bucky was practising. As he read over quarterly reports and proposals from people on the ground and did final edits of speeches, hearing Bucky slide between the hymns his mother approved of, the jazz she most certainly hadn’t, and newer music was some of the best support.
“I watched your press conference announcing the start of In the Light the other day,” Bucky said, somehow effortlessly transitioning from Amazing Grace to Oops, I Did It Again.
“Yeah?”
Bucky chuckled. “Coming out to the entire country partly to spite a dickwad politician is one of the most you things you’ve ever done.”
Steve smiled and looked up from his laptop. Bucky was watching him with that look – that clear blue skies look. The tempo of the music turned jazzier and the melody turned into an old familiar song, one they played often in those dance halls before the war complicated their lies.
As he continued working, part of his mind tried to remember the lyrics, but they were just a bit out of reach.
Bucky had played on for a while after that, and it wasn’t until after he’d gone that the words came back to Steve:
              Heaven, I’m in heaven
And my heart beats so loud that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we’re out together dancing, cheek to cheek
He looked up to the now-silent piano. It was the song that had played the night he’d danced with Peggy in the army camp, which wouldn’t make sense for Bucky to refer to if not for the events that followed.
After Steve’s successful rescue of the captured soldiers of the 107th, including Bucky, there had been a huge party. They had all gotten rather drunk – except for Steve, of course – and danced late into the night. When Peggy pulled Steve into a dance, he’d lost track of Bucky for a while. That was, until Cheek to Cheek began to play and the dancing slowed. As he swayed with Peggy, he saw Bucky turning away, downing a bottle as he went.
“Hey, Peg?” he said, standing still.
“Yeah?”
“I’ll be right back. Bucky’s…” he paused. “I gotta make sure he doesn’t die of alcohol poisoning; it would make my whole rescue a waste.”
She smiled. “And since no one’s gonna remember anything they see tonight, I have to find that redhead Star Spangled dances who was making eyes at me earlier.”
Steve quickly caught up to Bucky, who was wandering aimlessly through the rows of tents and trucks.
“Hey, Buck,” Steve fell into step beside him.
“Oh, hey, Steve,” Bucky said. “Get tired of Agent English already?”
Steve was so stunned he didn’t say anything for a full thirty seconds. Finally, he said quietly, “What do you mean by that, Buck?”
“Oh, you know what I mean,” he said.
“She’s my friend, Buck.”
He turned and raised his eyebrows incredulously. “Sure.”
Steve sighed. “It’s not like that, okay? You know I’m… well, I’m not…” he sighed again. “You know what I mean.”
“It’s just weird to see you, like,” he gestured vaguely at Steve. “this. And everyone else, well, they see it too. And they, you know, like you and the girls want you – I see them – and probably some of the guys too, cause, I mean, who wouldn’t. and It’s stupid but, you know, I was first. And they can’t know that, but I want them to.”
As Bucky babbled on, Steve led them closer to his tent. But before they could go inside, Bucky grabbed his arm, stopping them in the deserted muddy path.
“You know what I mean?” he asked and as they locked eyes, Steve realized that Bucky wasn’t half as drunk as he though he was, although he certainly had had a lot of drink.
“Yeah,” Steve said. “I do.”
“And, like, you don’t really need me anymore, cause you’re, you know.” He gestured at him again. “So, I don’t want to hold you back, and if you were with someone else, that’s entirely up to you and I wouldn’t want to stand in your way –”
“Buck,” Steve grabbed his shoulders. “I don’t want to be with anyone else. I –” He didn’t finish the sentence, but he didn’t have to.
“I love you, Steve,” Bucky said, and it was all Steve could do to make sure he’d dragged him into his tent before kissing him.
As they tumbled onto the cot together, he had only a few coherent thoughts. One, he was very grateful that his position as Captain America meant he got his own tent; two, he hoped that Peggy had found that redheaded dancer; and, three, that their cot at home had been comfier. All other thoughts were hidden beneath the haze of Bucky, and Bucky saying he loved him and knowing that he loved Bucky.

“Yes,” she agreed, leaning her cheek against his shoulder, taking comfort in his presence. “Almost.”
