ARE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? My mom was playing volleyball in the early days of her pregnancy and one of the opposing team member's name she loved so much, said she'd never heard it before, and named me it. I grew up in a small town and there were two other people with my name in my grade. Sad for me. However, I nicknamed myself as soon as I could talk and have never gone by my legal name (except professionally 🤪). Also I named myself after a bug sooooo who's the real winner here 🪲🪲🪲

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? This morning i listened to a podcast about community care and queer platonic love using bell hooks work as the foundational text and it made me cry happy tears of gratitude for the growth I've had in my own life. I do cry fairly easily, especially over beautiful things, the joys of being alive, that sorta thing.

DO YOU HAVE KIDS? No no. I have one precious adorable perfect nephew and he is everything I could ever desire.

WHAT SPORTS DO YOU PLAY/HAVE YOU PLAYED? I grew up playing soccer til I broke my nose and knocked all my front teeth out! I'm a big ping pong fan (I was the reigning champion two years in a row at math camp 🤓)

WHAT'S YOUR EYE COLOR? Dark brown, when I was born, you couldn't distinguish my iris from the pupil because they were so dark. They've lightened a bit over the years.

SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? Never been a scary movie fan, but a happy ending isn't what I seek, either. I love a good melancholic storyline and ending 🖤

FAVORITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL? three way tie between anything art related, creative writing, and physics (like how creative and dreamy is physics??? It was the only thing that challenged me and I even started to study it in undergrad!!)

DREAM JOB? I have a pretty dreamy job that's values-aligned, flexible, remote, creative, and fun! It's pretty high stress and I'm always working tho, so something less intensive that let's me travel more would be ideal 😎

currently working on: finishing my InktOmens project, for one (which may become a set of prints/handmade reproductions if I figure out the shipping?), and other GO related stuff: a couple of planned artworks and some unnecessarily long-winded metas which apparently tend to make everybody cry; possibly my first attempt at a fanfic since my old ff-writer days (we are talking 2005, my friends, that's how ancient I am)

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

Oh boy uhhhh honestly I’m proud of all of them from this year but I probably have to give it to When He’s Given Something to Keep. It was my first time writing a long smut scene, the longest ofmd fic I’d written by that point, and I just poured my whole heart and soul into that story to the point where it’s become a separate project that’s the biggest I’ve ever undertaken in my life

6. Favorite title you used

Hmmmm probably actually Something Growing, Something Good because it’s the only one that isn’t from a song/poem and I think it fits the story really well on top of being a nice visual and mouthfeel

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

Okay listen, it’s not even fair because this year I wrote “Maybe there’s a muscle memory to loving someone, even in the wanting.” (from the fic in q3) and like. That’s the GOAT. So imma give an honorable mention to this: “It was like—like if drowning could save you. Like Ed had gasped underwater and realized this was what he was meant to breathe all along.” (from Just To Kiss Me)

3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

Are you going to make me choose between my children?? ... Okay, seriously, I love all of my stories. I'm probably proudest of "Heartleaves", though, and I still regularly re-read "Everything That Touches Us". Even when I'm collaborating, I'm still writing for myself, you know? These are the stories and relationships I wanna read about, so I do!

Also, even if it's not done yet, I'm still very proud of "Neon, Neon". It took a lot out of me to start writing German fanfic again, to publish it, and then to also make it Explicit. I realised that I really like writing porn in German, I guess? Aaahhh, that sounds TERRIBLE!! xD

5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?

"Never" is a long time.... But I've had this idea of a OFMD/Steddyhands AU that's basically an OT3 take on "Sweet Home Alabama", you know, the romcom with Reese Witherspoon? I even have a playlist for it, but.... there's so many other things I want to write? Idk... Maybe some day...

6. Are there any fics from others you reread all the time?

YEEESSSSSS. There's "Benefits & Costs" by trans_chickens, I JUST reread that and it's still AMAZING. Then, the "Polyamory" series by Euphorion. Did I ever tell anyone that I'm obsessed with Kuroko no Basuke? WELL I AM OBSESSED. (Also, uuhhh, very E-rated, but go read the "A Firm Hand" series by lysapadin, it's so good!) I'm sure there are more but those are the ones I remember rn.

15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters?

Uuhhh, sometimes it's just words I like or that feel fitting. I like one-word-titles, especially for the German stories. And while I do love to get inspired by music and lyrics, I like lines from poems for titles even more!

(And then there's "Neon, Neon", which is called that, because I couldn't come up with a title, but I knew I wanted something related to Neon Trees.......)

This is just an excerpt from an Ed/Izzy, with past Izzy/Sam Bellamy story that I'll probably never finish.

"Later, there's a Sam-shaped hole burned into the inside of his chest as if was made out of paper, the edges black and fraying and still able to ignite if it catches the breeze wrong. He doesn't really think about it anymore, only that he burns and has been burnt, so he's decided that, for now, it's better to not think at all. About Sam. About Sam leaving. About any of it. And if, sometimes, he thinks about satin under his hands, cool and soft and almost liquid, if he thinks about Sam's fingers digging into his thighs, about the dark-blue-like-the-sky-just-before-dawn bruises he'd left there, if he finds himself reminded of him when looking out into the night, and reminded of silk when looking out to sea. Well, then, that's his own fucking business, and everyone else can go fuck themselves."

I like the words here, maybe I'll re-use them for something else. (I also thought about sharing something from the One Piece modern roadtrip AU that I have lying around but every excerpt looked too long and this is already such a long answer....)

If you write Stede and Ed engaging in all manner of sexytimes, but Stede is convinced it's anything OTHER than Ed being in love with him because How Could Ed Be In Love With HIM ("this is just what pirates do and we're pirates, so...", "ed is helping me get acclimated to being more casual about touching", "ed is such a good friend to let me do this", etc.)? I'm yours.

So here's the thing. My hair is v. similar to the Ed wig. Long, dark, wavy, shot with silver streaks. It's v. distinctive and defining - like to the point that my college advisor would tell underclassmen to go talk to "the girl with the hair" and they would find me on that description alone (and that a high school teacher once wrote me a v. inappropriate poem entitled 'The Lady With Hair'). And I love my hair. I cut it all off several years ago to donate to Wigs 4 Kids, and while I don't regret the donation, the following few years while it grew back out were TORTURE. So I wouldn't trade it for anything. BUT, if I weren't so deeply lazy, and burdened by sensory issues, I would be serving mid-century high-femme all the times, and Stede's highly styled and shaped curls are The Dream.

It's been awhile, actually? I mean, I rarely go more than a week or two without checking back in on one specific scene or another to make sure I'm remembering it correctly before I mouth off about something here or on Discord, but it's been months since I've watched an episode from end to end. I am planning a full re-watch before the new season drops, though.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

I tried to look through this year's writing for a potential fav line (bc i forgot that passage is also an option) but like all the lines are made good or even better through context....

This is made even more difficult by the fact that I wrote a lot of poetry this year and poetry and fic are two different things. Also bc I wrote a range of fandoms this year and I mentally separate every fandom,,

I'm usually proud of my fics in their entirety, too, so picking out specific passages is HARD.

So for fav passage, I'm nominating the last verse of "what if this storm ends", and this passage from "and the skeletons..." (because cat) for destiel:

I also loved it when, in my ofmd fic "nothing goes as planned", I compared time to Ed stuck on a dinghy in e10 bc projecting on the literal concept of time is a MOOD.

Also shoutout to these lines from In These Catacombs bc it's still one of my fav poems out of my Hannibal poetry: "and a ghost is searching, / carrying a name, a heart / both not his"

Okay. Last, but not least, I do have one line I really love from my Witcher fic "Royal Blood". While I'm certainly proud of the whole fic, I really like this line in particular: "The sun flickered briefly, pointing its rays towards the poet’s scribbled ramblings." Describing Geralt's eyes as the sun is just 👌 yes

I described in a previous post how I typically find my reading, so here’s a crop of my all-time personal favorite collections, or at least the ones that immediately come to mind. And while I have faves based on moods/vibes, these transcend regardless of what mood I’m in or after.

Too Bright to See & Alma by Linda Gregg. Holy shit, buckle up. I’d been reading poetry for about a year when I encountered this book thanks to a post from the poetryisnotaluxury insta and it blew my socks out of my Birkenstocks. It’s Linda Gregg’s first two books (1981 & 1985), reprinted in one volume. Short, declarative sentences grab you by the shoulders and force you to reckon with the emotion she’s conveying with sparse but clear language and imagery. I had to, like, pause my poetry reading for a few days after reading this to let it swim around in my being. Could only read one or two of her poems at bedtime rather than my usual inadvertent five or seven (or 10, oops, knotwerk, go to sleep). Here’s the first poem in the collection: We Manage Most When We Manage Small

Time Is A Mother by Ocean Vuong. *rolls up sleeves* Okay, so: everything Ocean Vuong has done, ever. OMFG. I started with Night Sky with Exit Wounds, and then read On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous and my brainheart exploded. And then I listened to as many interviews as I could and got more insight into life art creativity writing than I thought possible from a single source. There was a span of time (early 2022; the months preceding the drop of OFMD S1 actually) where I had immersed myself so much in Ocean Vuong work that he appeared in my dreams. I had this one dream where I was wearing a mint green football jersey with OCEAN VUONG on the back in neon pink letters. I’m that kind of fan. And this particular collection—this is a writer at the top of his game, leaving it all on the field. Highly recommend getting acquainted with his bio & his preceding work first so you can get a sense for the context of this absolute brilliance.

Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals by Alexis Pauline Gumbs. OK, this is a hybrid work; prose-poem-y pieces that started out as posts on her Instagram. I want a t-shirt that says “I was there when Alexis Pauline Gumbs started posting the pieces on Instagram that became Undrowned” because I like remember where I was whenever I read a new post—I was like HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT LOOK WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH WORDS I HAVE TO LAY DOWN. And here it all is in a book and it’s amazing.

I’m not here, I’m just the ghost of the sea, the ghost on the shore, yearning for something I was, perhaps, never meant to have, still waiting for my flash of green. I let him go, why did I let him go? I’m the shadow in the paintings, burnt-out, erased, ne’er-do-well, never belonged. why did I come back?    (just to weep at the wedding gifts?    but I can’t stand before them, avoid the light,    I am not there) It’s clear I’m here to haunt (never meant to) and the only companion listening, is the orange, petrified. do you remember that, old sport? I’m not here ‘cause it’s the same as when I left except it’s not I’m the roughened piece, unpolished cutlery in the drawer, the broken glass in the window, the dried paint on her favorite brush — happy haunting! but we both found where we belong so wherever you go, there you are, love I’ve missed you.
