I feel like tags like these were inevitable on the post about people traumatising themselves for the greater good or w/e... There is SO much emphasis on posting on tumblr and other social media being so important and so useful and we must never stop. But I would like to counterargue with the idea that posting on social media (especially tumblr) constantly does very little/nothing. If that was true then the point here becomes meaningless.

top secret writing tip: when you’ve finished your draft, and you think “well, i’ve included everything i want in this, but it feels too short. I don’t know what else to add.”

Simply.... don’t!! If you’ve got everything you want, throw out your arbitrary word count goal, and let your story be as long as you need it to be.

If you add things just for the sake of hitting some length, then you’re probably gonna end up with unneccessary fluff that you might as well just trim out again.

Only 5k words? That’s perfectly fine. 1k words? Fine too. 500 words? Perfect. 100 words? You know it.

Like The Day Of he's just paralyzed with worry and caught between wanting to do something and not wanting to go against Aoki... maybe at most he chances calling Arakawa telling him to be careful, because that's not too conspicuous given his role in the dissolution, but Arakawa just gives him the old I'll Be Fine Worry About Yourself... and, you know, why shouldn't he; they've always had their enemies and he's Arakawa the Assassin, he can handle himself... he can let himself have that fleeting hope, but deep down... and THEN he finds out and has to act like he didn't mean anything to him and has to go back to his duties like nothing happened... Can I just say. Literally such an insane fucking series of scenes in Coin Locker Baby. Because you get Jo's despondence when he's saying he might have killed Arakawa--he's being a bitch to provoke Ichiban into a fight, but it's also an admission his inaction played a part, isn't it... and then you get him expressing that he's familiar with Ichiban's need to protect Arakawa... and then you get the sheer desperation and insistence in his voice when he says he could never kill him... and then you get--I'm not totally sure how clear it is in English--but you get him actively saying his feelings go deeper than Ichiban's without really explaining how... and then you get the tinge of fondness when he's thinking back on the old days when Arakawa lived up to his name... Like. Why Did They Do That. Any Of That.

ALSO. GOD. I've gotten so much shit the past couple days because I said I want to lock Jo, Kume, and Tendo in a room for five minutes For My Entertainment. Reading those tags felt like coming home honestly 😭 Like, even Ichi was ready to kill someone over Arakawa, and Jo was out here threatening to disembowel people [in the dub]. And I Think They Should Be Allowed To. As A Treat. So FOR REAL the biggest "I'm so glad we get to talk" 😭😭😭

On that note genuinely so funny that I took an extra ten minutes re-rendering the video because I forgot to put the "flashback" part in Arakawa's subtitles at first but then nobody read it 😭

But it's also something I've been mulling over because I'm delusional. Getting actors as high-profile as Nakai and Takei back for just A Flashback is kinda crazy to me because Arakawa and Jo's screen-time took up a full four percent of the entire game [over ten percent of the cutscenes] originally. But then if it's multiple flashbacks equivalent to that... what exactly is going on here that the past is so intertwined...

And Because My Brain Is Evil there is the fact that technically speaking, Yokoyama only said that line was from a flashback, and specified Arakawa wouldn't be appearing in the main story. Now of course a normal person would interpret that as him reassuring the audience he won't appear in any present-day scenes, but part of me was like. Oh So A Side Story Is On The Table [<- it's not it's fucking not it will not be in a million years]

I've never had an easel, mostly because I never really needed one until I started using acrylics, but I finally bought one for the first time! it's just a used table easel but I think that'll definitely be enough for now.

this has been the slowest buying process ever though lol. I first messaged this person two weeks ago, and now she's not at home until next week so I have to wait even longer until she can ship it.

on the one hand that's pretty frustrating (I want it now!!! 😭), but on the other I'm trying to stop spending money impulsively, and this has given me more than enough time to consider if I really need it. I also waited several months and sold a couple things specifically to buy it, so I think that's definitely progress. I just hope I'll actually use it as much as I'd like to.

I always cringe when all the kpop stans praise the group singing in the "it's live" channel because the vocal editing is so bad imo. The band arrangement is great it's true, especially with DC since their music is rock influenced obviously it's gonna work (the arrangement for bon voyage is so good 😩). However I'm sorry but the vocal editing is not it. Honestly it barely deserves the "it's live" mention, because ok they sing live but whoever edit this must hate raw vocals or something and as a result it doesn't sounds live at all. Like for example they always edit Dami's voice so much that she ends up sounding robotic and higher than her natural voice and like it is very clear that it's heavily edited??? And a lot of time I've heard voices sounding more robotic and the pitch way too high to sounds natural... Whatever settings they are using, they are using them wrong.

Anyway, truth to be told, generally speaking kpop stans baffle me. Like when I first got into kpop and DC I've seen a lot of people praising them for singing live and I was like "???? They are singers it's literally their jobs what do you mean????", before finding out that it is indeed not so common for singers to sing 💀

Don't get me wrong, I know TV broadcasts are almost pre recorded for technical reason, and not just kpop shows, like every musical awards ceremonies are like that. The Eurovision song contest is just a different breed lmao. Also I get that they are dancing so they need to breathe and can rely on backtrack, although some choreographers clearly don't give a fuck about the singing part cause some dance moves can't physically allow the artist to sing at the same time 🙄 As for encore stages, obviously nobody should expect perfection when the artists are singing, with a noisy crowd and no in ear monitor but at least sing. So I'm not here to bash imperfections. Although being able to at least decently sing your lines seems like the bare minimum. Obviously we know it won't be the outstanding vocals moment and I don't really care if they skip something because they are celebrating, gooding around etc., have a voice crack or sometimes are a bit out of tune because of the no in ear monitor but at least try, thank you very much.

But like for concerts and festivals???? You guys are paying for a backtrack concert??? Again I can understand why they need backing when dancing, although I'd say for a concert they should be more laid back on the dance to be able to sing but I suppose some people value choreographies more than I do. But when singing with no choreography at a concert and you can hear the backtrack more than the actual vocals???? That's insulting to everyone's wallet tbh. Not to mention the fact that they are groups so each member don't even sing an entire song by themselves????? And people are like, they need to preserve their vocals, they are tired etc. That's just bullshit. Bands sometimes have tours for months and they sing every two days or even every day, they may not be dancing but some are like running and jumping around for the whole show. And they sing live for like two hours. And yes sometimes their also singers have a bad day, and their vocals are weak, they sound exhausted etc. Sometimes their voices crack, they miss their cue etc. But tbh that's what I love about a concert. And personally I would rather see an artist performing at their lowest than paying for no live singing or being overpowered by a backing track.

Literally all a singer need is practice and obviously a healthy as possible life hygiene (but I won't get to that topic because tbh I don't think idols have anything to say in regarding this matter and I don't want to fuel that sterile debate). Some singers are better than other, that's for sure and not even talking about vocal capabilities, because I'm not an expert at all, we all have our preferences and that's alright. But they should be able to perform songs they actually recorded in the studio booth at some point. What's the point of making a song you can't even sing live anyway???

And I mean I can't blame the idols because they probably don't get to choose whether to sing live or not. Not to mention the fact that kpop stans praise so much fake live vocals that they don't understand what's a live vocals and can't stand imperfections which really does not help at all.

But to each their own I guess 🤷

We're near the end of the chapter where it's just going to keep ramping up without a reprieve, so we'll just have to make do with a few weird pauses in this chapter finale. Alright, Cassandra TED Talk Time! It's interesting.  A lot of people seem to paint Casey Senior as this law-breaking "stick-it to the man" type of character, but personally I see a young woman who mostly strives to do as she's told and honors those she deems worthy or above her station.  She holds a great deal of respect for her superiors and I could see that bleeding over into her adulthood.  Albeit, she does overcome this near fanatic obedience by the end of the series, but habits like those don't go away so easily.  She would hold the hierarchy of the colony in high regard and strive to place her family on the pedestal she believes they rightfully deserve after all they've done (regardless of whatever stigma they may have still received from some of the humans).  I think that part of her really rubbed off onto Casey Jr because the amount of respect he shows his closest family members in both naming convention, titles, and attitude is surprisingly uptight and never breaks in the movie save for when he's telling off Leo. Honestly, I can't think of anyone else he could have picked up this habit from because (unlike in other TMNT iterations) the terms "Sensei" and "Master" do not hold quite the same paternal meaning for the crew.  That's just my 2 cents though!

Hopefully now that all my responsibilities for Zines and other projects are complete I'll be able to get back onto a regular schedule. I'm really excited for the next chapter. We'll finally get to see Leo having to deal with some drama in the resistance and a few more familiar faces that I have yet to see make an appearance in any of the apocalyptic AUs. It's back to the character design board for me...
