Something I don’t see people talk about when it comes to the Oracle games often is how there is a decently large chunk of the map that can under the right conditions change from gameplay to gameplay. Let me explain.
So in the oracle games you get an animal companion that can help you get across tricky terrain that Link can’t usually get across (or usually doesn’t have item to get across yet). These companions are Ricky, Moosh, and Dmitri. (Drawn to the right, from top to bottom)
Tumblr media
Well I say three of them, but in reality while you may interract with them during the game you get to keep Moosh as your companion in Ages and Ricky as your companion in seasons. Dmitri doesn’t stay for the full game in either one. Or does he?
There are two ways I know of to change you companion. One is, if right before you start the portion of the game where you’ll meet the usual animal companion you go to the town store, you can buy the horn for the other animal. Or, before you start the game if you enter the right code it will change (I believe this is the way to get specifically Dmitri).
HOWEVER. Changing companions is no easy task. You see each companions has a specific thing they help with. For instance Moosh is used to fly across big gaps. If you had Dmitri or Ricky instead you would be stuck. So if you have one of the other companions for the game the entire companion section of the game is altered to a different map that is suited for your new companion! I’ve always found this really neat and when I first found it while trying out codes I found on zelda dungeon it totally changed the game for me :3

oracle hype!!! now presenting midnight doodle ft. the dip pen again
Tumblr media
Just got the manga and plan on playing the game! In the manga, the Link in Oracles is not the same one from ALttP (as he likely is in the games), and this gave me many thoughts. I couldn't help myself...
For Zelda, I changed a few details to differentiate her from OoT Zelda just a bit more. I kept features more taken from ALttP Zelda and changed some shapes to match the sprite in-game (her tiara). Link has some patterns from Farore's design, as well as Roc's Cape. And yes, the feathers on his cap belong to Moosh. Of course I am choosing Moosh. Just look at it!!!
Program: Ibis Paint X
Time Elapsed: 1 hour, 41 minutes
Reblogging is fine, but please don't post this anywhere else without linking the original post. Thanks!

“Hey, Legend, I’ve been meaning to ask. Why do you not eat meat? N-Not that it’s an issue! I was just wondering.” Wind asks one night during dinner.
Legend pauses as he’s taking a bite of his own food. “Oh, um- I can, um, talk t’ animals.”
Wind’s mouth makes an ‘O’ shape. “...I can see how that would put you off, yeah.”
“Have you... always had that ability?” Twilight asks. Four looks intrigued; he’d explained once how he’d used what he called ‘jabber nuts’ during one of his adventures to be able to understand the minish as well as animals.
“No, I got it on my, um...” He stops to think for a moment, counting on his fingers. “On my second ‘venture. I went ta Holodrum an’ ended up havin’ ta save Din. She’s th’ Oracle o’ Seasons. Some o’ them can talk like people, like Ricky an’ Moosh an’ Dimitri! Th’ rest are jus’ normal animals.”
“Who are Ricky, Moosh, and Dimitri?”
Legend brightens, excited to talk about something from his adventures for once. “Ricky’s a kangaroo! He lost his gloves inna boxing match so I got ‘em back for him!” He mimes a boxing stance and throws a few punches. Sky dives to save his bowl from spilling onto the ground and instead holds onto it for him until he’s done.
“You can box?” Twilight looks surprised.
“Enough ta win a match!” He looks very proud of himself. “Moosh is a bear! He’s blue an’ has little white wings so he can fly an’ he likes sleeping a lot. Ricky an’ me met him when we were facing off against a buncha monsters. He woke up cause o’ all th’ noise and then we flew away and escaped.”
“And Dimitri?” Time prompts.
“Dimitri’s a dodongo!” More than one of them gape in surprise. “He’s real nice, an’ really good at swimming! You can tell it’s him cause he has a broken horn.”

Thank to rub salt in the wounds, Twi.
Not only your timeline was perfectly FINE, not only the hero before you isn't DEAD but he left you a sword in a perfect condition.
Twilight didn't have to fight, as a child, to survive in a cruel world. The hero before him did'n't fail, he didn't leave the sword in a horrible condition.
Tumblr media
I wonder if Legend has guessed that the hero before Twi was Time, seen Twi's smile. (it's kinda obvious seen how close they are)
Did he guessed that Time was the hero before him too? And he chooses to stay silence to not hurt anyone? Time has never been the hero of time in his timeline after all and is probably died as a child.
But outch Legend's face....it's a mix between "Yep you are a lucky boy" and "if only you knew about the hero before me or maybe "thank to remember me how much a tragic mess my timeline is"
Because Legend is too nice and patient to say "how nice for you, the hero before me died against Ganon, his sword was in a horrible condition with still his blood on her, so much that i have had to reforge her myself! As a CHILD."
No Legend is too nice to take his bitterness on Twilight who did nothing wrong and didn't know. He'll shallow it and says nothing about the sword's condition in his timeline.
I think that's a big part of who Legend is actually! He comes off as really bitter and cold, at least as far as Twilight is concerned, and I wish there was more focus on that interplay.
Twilight met Legend and, based off of a few limited interactions, mentally labeled him as a bully and a jerk and thus treats him accordingly. Not without reason of course, he's drawing mental parallels to actual bullies and Legend is unintentionally checking the boxes, but I think it's sort of sad that until this point, Twilight has still not bothered to get to know Legend at all beyond his initial observations .
But the fact remains that Legend IS from a world that was in shambles, a world where everyone is a threat, if not to everyone else than at least to him. Legend is a prey animal trapped amongst predators with little to no guidance. The cards of fate are stacked against him as far as his world is concerned, and while the goddesses may have granted him additional blessings and favor to make up for that, his world is still magically a mess, physically a mess, and just generally a mess.
The vet has no legacy of proud heroes to look back on. The First Hero died. The Hero of the Four Sword is a raging lunatic who tries to murder children and is sealed beneath the castle. The Hero of Time died in combat. This is the legacy he gets to follow in. Legend doesn't have the hope of becoming like those before, he has the fear of meeting a similar fate because life is never kind to heroes.
Legend's world was left in shambles, and he's had to be the one to help rebuild it, only to watch it get torn down again and again as enemies undo all his hard work. But on a more personal note, Legend has tried again and again to establish himself in the world just to have all the people he loves hurt or harmed on his account.
His Uncle died, and even though he was brought back, he disappears from the timeline shortly after, leaving a kid hero alone in the world. Legend's grandparents have high expectations and aren't the best at listening when he says that their wishes make him unhappy or uncomfortable, and instead push him to follow them anyway, only to themselves disappear from his life once the Oracle adventures are over. Din, Ralph, Raven, Nayru, Moosh, Ricky, Dmitri, all these are people Ledge befriended and was close to and had to say goodbye to again for one reason or another.
Marin.
Legend is always losing the people he loves most, watching his work get thrown in his face and receiving little to no thanks for his work. He's still actively treated like a nuisance and a threat by some people in his kingdom and no doubt there are others who simply don't believe him.
The whole world is against him, and yet the only thing it's done is made him defensive. Ledge isn't cold or cruel, you can see that he actively cares for and worries about the other heroes, he's just guarded more than they are about it. Still, in times of high emotion the walls fall and he's his true self: that kid who's got a heart too big for his own good and is going to get it broken again.
And Legend knows this. Legend actively knows that Twilight isn't fond of him, and that the other heroes regard him as an ass, but rather than correct them, stand up for himself, provide even one of the thousands of reasons he has to guard and defend his heart like he does, he just lets them have their peace because what good would it do to tell them about the losses he's suffered? The world he grew up in? The legacy he has to bear? The terrible fate he no doubt expects to one day meet? What good would it do to make them love him if that will just make their inevitable parting all the harder?
It's hard to lose those you love, but it's easier if you convince yourself they never actually loved you, so you're better off.
So yeah, Twilight is over here unintentionally rubbing salt in the vet's many wounds, but Legend keeps his mouth shut because it does no good to speak up, and in the long run, at least as far as he thinks, it's better to let it be.
I kinda hope Twilight will come to understand the vet better though, and maybe get a peek at what has hardened up the younger hero enough that he comes across the way he does. I'm pretty sure his whole outlook would change if he did, and his respect for the vet would definitely increase.

Summary:
What a unique game. The whole concept was super cute and I am surprised the oracle games aren't that popular. There are many aspects inspired by OOT and MM such as the Hand in the toiled and some of the enemies but it definitely takes even more inspo from the 2d games. There's a lot of similarities between this game and the Minish cap! It was super cute and it really felt like they let the developers explore silly ideas. For one, they included both river and ocean Zora which I believe is one of the only games to do so. It also has bonus content if you play its sister game, seasons. The dungeons had a good difficulty to them and the bosses and mini had really cool designs - honestly designs you probably wouldn't see in any other game. There was also a good amount of down time content for when you aren't in the dungeons with really fun scenery and characters. Speaking of, the character designs were super cute and unique since they a different pixel art style! (Before I knew this was inspired by Link's Awakening). I highly recommend this game to anyone with a 3DS (rip you can't get it anymore). It is absolutely worth it. A Zelda fan must!!

Which Hyrule Warriors character/moveset picks do you think were weird, whom/what would you have wanted instead?
Agitha was weird.
She's not even a character you are required to interact with in the game. They may as well have made Purlo or Madame Fanadi a playable character.
They could have picked any member of the Resistance, Yeto and Yeta, Hero's Shade, Even one of the Ordonian Kids or Barnes would have made more sense to me. But Agitha is a weird pull.
But in my opinion it didn't even need to be a Twilight Princess character so they could have used anyone else. They could have put the DLC characters into base game, I thought it was shitty that Wind Waker got shafted until the DLC. If they wanted a "sweet innocent girl" vibe they could have gone with Marin.
But we also could have done with more 2D game characters in general. "Old Man" could have used a lot of callbacks to the NES games, namely the Zelda 2 spells. They obviously would have given him a real name instead of just "old man" but it would be obvious who he represented. They could have had Aghanihm, Blind the Thief, Sarahsala, Hell, even the prince and his wizard from the manual of Zelda 2 would have been a good pull, maybe literally anything at all for the Oracle of Seasons and Ages, Onox, Veran, Maple, Moosh, Rikki, Dimitri, i'm shocked we didn't see Vaati at all. Or Linebeck, I was pretty sure the DS games were highly successful in Japan.
I dunno, I just feel like Hyrule Warriors only really did fan service to a very small portion of the series in it's base game and the DLC didn't expand it that much.

Took a while but I finally finished this. The fireless(?), aquatic(???), friendly Dodongo from Zelda Oracles of Ages/Seasons. Sorry Moosh and Ricky, I'm choosing the dinosaur every time.
Tumblr media
Idk if the folds on his legs and body show up but I swear they're there. I took some design liberties since my dude has got barely anything official to work with. Also I'm still a Blender noob heh. Some of the seam placements baffle me and I designed the thing. 🤦‍♀️
Tumblr media
Doesn't quite fit in my bag lol. It's nice (for me) that the only embroidery is the eyes. A welcome break from Magolor's ornate fit. 😛

Oracle games my beloved~
Seeing that the Capcom Zeldas will come back and the Splatoon 3 DLC is what got me hyped the most! Hopefully can make proper celebratory art later, but here's some 2020 art that are sort of redesigns of the Oracle trio and Link (I say sort of since Nayru and Din was me just trying to make fancy art lol).
The Oracle games are just so much fun - I'm definitely going to make 3 different save files just so each will have Moosh, Ricky and Dimitri! The mystery seeds are also fun to play around with. And something I like about the regular playthrough is you get to actually play through the happy ending and see Din and Nayru chilling out after they have been saved. And then the linked game adds Zelda and fun crossovers, like Queen Ambi visiting Holodrum - I don't know, I just really love these games and I'm excited to play through them again! I'll try not to use too many save states, but really that's my main cheat on emulator lol, otherwise I actually kind of suck at playing these games lol.
