It's a Modern College AU set in the omegaverse, and the gang attends Storybrooke University's Annual Beltane Festival, a springtime celebration of nature and fertility. Killian’s keeping a big secret, and it’s about to change Emma’s whole world… (warning: extra steamy)

“What do you even know? You haven’t been paying attention to a single thing since you got here!”

“Oh, I most certainly have, Ms. Swan.” She paused, gesturing over to the occupied jail cell. “For instance, Captain Morgan over there just pretends to be drunk so you can arrest him. He’s generally a functioning member of society when not mooning over you like a love sick puppy.” She paused for a second, looking over at the other two men by the desk. “They all know, by the way. The whole town has a bet going. I think the blonde at the ice cream shop won.”

Deputy Goldilocks gaped at her, slack-jawed. Her coworkers tried not to snicker. Jones just leaned back against his bunk and shot her a somewhat sheepish smile when she turned to glare at him and the sheriff in turn. But Regina wasn’t finished.

“Oh, and I know all about your little stint in juvie, Ms. Swan. And not for that car that you stole. Sheriff, you might want to run a registration check on the Volkswagen. Being in possession of stolen property is a crime you know.”

“Now wait just a minute--”

“I’m not quite finished yet. Deputy Ken-doll over there cheated on his first wife with Miss Susie Sunshine. That’s the real reason they divorced--”

The man in question sputtered.

“--Tall, Dark, and Irish is into kinky dungeon sex,--”

The sheriff blushed bright red at this.

“--Dr. Strangelove’s got a Vicodin addiction, the librarian’s an alcoholic, your karate teacher friend has terrible taste in women and her online girlfriend who lives in Canada is actually just married, Wannabe Hells Angel is so secretive about his masterpiece because he writes dinosaur erotica for a living, that one mouthy janitor has a nun fetish, Granny’s lasagna is frozen, and also? There’s definitely no such thing as werewolves.”

Regina looked around the room of bemused, shocked, and mildly horrified townspeople. “Now, did I miss anyone, Ms. Swan?”

How long have you been in the CS/OUAT fandom?

It's been about six months. I binged watched OUAT in September '19 and immediately dusted the two years of dust off this tumblr account to get stuck in. I've met so many lovely people and met some fantastic friends!

When did you start shipping Captain Swan?

Tallahassee! I know they hadn't had much screen time at that point and Killian was well and truly a bad guy but enemies/rivals to lovers is one of my favourite tropes. I started reading fic when I was partway through season 5 and that just solidified my love for them as characters and as a pairing.

What drew you to this event?

EVERYTHING! The combinations of CS and supernatural subject matter is a match made in heaven for me. I love supernatural elements in fiction. Vampires? Werewolves? Ghosts? Magic? Demons? All of it! I'm so excited to be able to take part! Also, so many fantastic CS works have come from this event in previous years. I can't wait to see what this year brings!

What inspired your topic?

In short: The Witcher universe. I hadn't even considered that I could use it as my CSSNS idea until Nat @carpedzem reminded me that I'd promised her a CS Witcher!AU late last year. It's all grown from there. I could go on and on about the lore and the intricacies of the world have been my favourite to get lost in for the past 5 years but... I'm hoping it'll all show when the fic drops.

For the first time in a long time, he’s asleep before his head hits the pillow. The exhaustion of the weeks passed weighing his bones like lead, as if they’d sink straight through the mattress and into the nether below. He wishes they would.

“Killian.”

He jerks awake—no, not awake. Asleep. Further into the embrace of a dream. Oppressive darkness and silence surround him, his keenest senses rendered useless in their wake. Beneath him, a plush leather armchair. It’s painfully familiar. Precious, somewhat. Worn and comfortable and moulded to him as if he’d spent a century sat only here. This dreamscape. This void.

Oneiromancy. Perfect.

“Killian.”

A woman’s voice— her voice.

“Emma.”

“And I thought you’d forgotten about me.” She smiles, suddenly appearing in his lap, hips straddling his thighs as if it hadn’t been almost five years since they’d last parted. Five long, arduous years.

“Impossible, love. You’re not so easy to forget.” Killian can feel the steady beat of her heart as his hands instinctively take her waist. Soft, so soft. And centuries old.

“You never thought to stop by on your travels then?”

“The path is—”

“The path is the path. I know.” Pouting, she brings her arms around Killian’s neck. The thin swath of lace she’s wearing does nothing to hide her figure but its intricacies marr the details he wants very much to focus on; the blush of her breasts, the swell of her arse, what lies between those slender legs. Each time he tries to take her in, see past the veil of fabric, it shifts, obscuring his gaze once more. Fucking magic. “But I have missed you terribly.”

“Emma Swan, legendary sorceress and advisor to the throne of Misthaven, missing but a lowly Witcher?” The pale expanse of her neck calls for his kiss, so close and yet so far. “People will talk.”

With a violet flash, Emma winks. “Noise complaints, hopefully.”

His eyes slip shut, trying to maintain what little composure he has left. As disconcerting as dream magic is, he doesn’t want the spell to end. The feel of her so close is maddening. Waking to an empty bed will be torture.

Words he can’t possibly say nor mean jump to his throat, aching to be whispered against her mouth, passed to her tongue by his own. They burn.

“Come see me.”

“Emma—”

“I need you. I can’t tell you why—not here—but I need you.” There’s a silent plea hidden in her words, behind the typical bravado she always favours. He almost doesn’t catch it. She adjusts herself slightly, sitting back on his knees and letting her hands reverently trace the scars across his shoulders and chest. Ones she’s seen before and ones she hasn’t, long healed but still raw to her touch. It’s been too long. Her tongue darts out to wet her lips and it takes every modicum of restraint he has not to kiss her there and then. “Come to King David’s court in Misthaven. There’s a tourney one week from now.”

“I’m sensing I don’t have a choice.”

“Of course you have a choice. It’s in your best interests to make the right one.”

Killian sighs, letting his palms slide from her middle to her thighs, taking in the phantom warmth he’s missed so greatly. Emma Swan is an enigma. She’s centuries of power wrapped in mystery and untold sorrows and it lingers beneath her skin. She’s the first kiss of morning sun, the dark chill of winter, the wild lilacs that grow along the dirt roads of Misthaven. She’s true love’s first kiss and the denial of destiny. She’s nothing and everything, the beginning and the end.

And, occasionally, his.

“One week?” He muses, too focused on the way her nails feel against his skin, as if she were there, as if it were real. Her eyes, green as woodland moss, captivate him in the way they always used to, but they’re not the same. A mere mimicry. Beneath his fingers, the dream begins to fall away.

There’s no depth, no glimmer of magic below the surface.

Everything’s hollow and when he finally presses his lips to her fading visage, all he tastes is ash, dirt and the absence of all things.

“One week.”

It echoes around the cramped room, a whisper in the darkness not yet reached by morning’s soft first touches. A reminder.

OUAT Shadowhunters AU

Okay so this is a bit of a beast and I’m so sorry for how long it is. But this is the basic outlines of each character I thought of, although I may not include all of them in the story. I’m also still tweaking some ideas, but here’s how I kinda sorted everyone out. I want to work on a snippet, but it is very late so this is what I have! Shadowhunters

Killian Jones: Fae/Shadowhunter (26)

Killian is the second son of Alycia of the Fae Court and Brennan Jones, making him a Fae/Shadowhunter hybrid. He is extremely skilled with seraph blades and throwing daggers. His two most prominent runes are Calm Anger and Courage in Combat. Killian’s fae heritage means that he is seen as less than other Shadowhunters and has had to work twice as hard as other Shadowhunters to prove his worth. However, he is disturbed by the discrimination that downworlders face and often finds himself among downworld company. His best friend was David Nolan, but when they were nineteen, David was bitten by a werewolf and exiled from Misthaven. Killian was dating the werewolf Milah, but she was killed in a raid a few years previously and Killian has been investigating her death ever since.

Liam Jones: Fae/Shadowhunter (30)

Liam is the oldest of the Jones brothers and also a hybrid like his brother. Liam’s choice of weapon is a seraph blade, but he is also quite skilled with the stave, making him deadly at both range and up-close. His most prominent rune is the Angelic Power rune because, unlike his brother, Liam cleaves closer to his angelic heritage than his fae heritage. He works hard to make himself the perfect Shadowhunter so that the Clave doesn’t doubt his loyalty. He worries incessantly after his younger brothers and is slow to believe Killian’s theory that there is something rotten in the Clave. He is not overly fond of Emma at first, but is very interested in her young Warlock friend, Elsa.

William “Lee” Jones (Liam 2.0) (20)

Lee is the youngest of the Jones brothers and the result of his father’s second marriage Anne Whitlock. He is a full Shadowhunter, but still very much aware of the shadow that hangs over his older brothers. Lee is very talented with the crossbow and prefers to be able to analyze a fight before getting involved. However, he is as hot-headed as his brothers and his most prominent rune is Accuracy. He works alongside his brothers to stop whatever Gold is planning.

Will Scarlet (25)

Will is a good friend of the Jones brothers and parabatai to Robin Locksley. He prefers seraph daggers and his most prominent rune is Stealth. Will enjoys hanging around downworld bars and his quickly falling head over heels for the head of the vampire coven, Belle French.

Robin Locksley (30)

Robin and Liam are best friends, but Robin chose to form a parabatai bond with the young Will Scarlet because for all Will’s recklessness, he’s a good, passionate fighter and he needs someone with Robin’s head to watch out for him. Robin prefers the bow and his most prominent rune is Flexibility. Robin is in love with fellow Shadowhunter Regina, but Cora doesn’t think Robin has the right background to marry her daughter.

Regina Mills (28)

Regina is a particularly talented Shadowhunter that prefers the electrum whip and her most prominent rune is her Angelic Power rune. She believes that she is superior, mostly because of the way Cora raised her. Born to one of the “original” families, Regina doesn’t think much of the discrimination that downworlders face, but agrees to investigate what is happening in the hopes that her mother will allow her to marry Robin.

Robert Gold (52)

Gold is the Inquisitor and is known for doling out harsh punishments to downworlders and Shadowhunter sympathizers. He has been attempting to ruin Killian for years and sees downworlders as scum to be eliminated. Gold has teamed up with Cora Mills and Peter Pan to destroy the downworld and raise a new, pure order from the ashes. Gold orchestrates many of the murders and tries to pass laws that would place stricter regulations on downworlders. They would also forbid the Jones brothers from being Shadowhunters. His most prominent rune is the Power rune.

Cora Mills (50)

Cora is a skilled Shadowhunter that specializes in the electrum whip like her daughter. However, she also has impressive rune work with her most prominent rune being her Voyance rune. Cora believes downworlders to be a scourge and is working to eradicate them along with Gold and Pan. Cora had a daughter at 18 when she slept with a demon for fun. She cast Zelena aside and instead married into the high-class Mills family through Henry Mills. She has raised Regina to follow in her footsteps and does not approve of the lowly Robin.

Warlocks

Emma Swan (200+)

Emma is the High Warlock of Misthaven and takes great pride in protecting her downworld community from threats, both from demons and from the Clave. She is extremely skilled in defensive magic and her warlock mark comes in the form of white, shining stripes and glowing eyes. Emma is the current ward for a young warlock Henry and they have a mother-son relationship, especially since they share the same demonic parent. Emma first comes across Killian in the club she owns that he frequent, but their first official meeting comes when a young warlock is murdered and Killian comes to ask her about him. From then on, the two of them work closely together to solve the murders and they begin to develop feelings for each other.

Henry Swan (12)

A young Warlock who was taken in by Emma when his birth mother abandoned him, Henry and Emma share the same demonic parent. Henry has similar stripes to Emma, although his are red, and he has small fangs. Henry is an excitable kid that doesn’t quite understand the discrimination the downworld faces. Emma is extremely protective of him.

Zelena West (32)

A young Warlock, Zelena is the illegitimate child of Cora Mills, who had an affair with a demon, but cast the child off. Zelena’s angelic heritage makes her particularly powerful, but her bitterness at Shadowhunters makes her a nasty opponent. She works with Pan and Arthur in the hopes that they will double-cross Gold and take over. Her warlock mark is her green skin and she specializes in potions.

Elsa and Anna Fross (182, 178)

Elsa and Anna Fross are sisters born to the same mother. Their mother was part of a brooding den that was broken up by Shadowhunters. They saw the horrible things their mother experienced and hold kinder feelings than most Warlocks towards Shadowhunters. Elsa has a particular talent for water and ice magic and her warlock mark is her white hair and two horns. Elsa has begun to fall in love with Liam Jones and worries about what that might mean. Anna has less magical talent than her sister, but can also manipulate water, although she uses it for healing mostly. Anna’s warlock mark is the same horns as her sister, but she also has a white tail instead of white hair.

Werewolves

Snow White (30)

Snow is the Alpha of the Misthaven pack, along with her mate, David. Snow is a born werewolf and her wolf form has white fur, which is what earned her her name. She is well-respected among the downworld community and rules with a fair and firm hand. Her acceptance of David was much contested at the time, but he quickly proved to be an asset. She and David have a son named Leo, who is still a little puppy. She and Emma are good friends.

David Nolan (26)

David was once a shadowhunter who was bitten by a rogue werewolf during a mission gone wrong. He was close with the Jones family and didn’t much mind their half-fae heritage, especially since he was mocked for being from a lower-class Shadowhunter family. David met Snow’s pack after he turned and fell in love with the Alpha. David still keeps in contact with Killian, but it is sometimes difficult as Killian is closely monitored. David’s wolf form is russet and sandy-brown. His most prominent rune was Fortitude.

Ruby and Granny Lucas (29, 80)

Ruby and Granny Lucas are both born werewolves that run in Snow’s pack. Ruby is Snow’s Beta and Granny often advises Snow on difficult political matters. They two women are incredibly loyal, but have a severe distrust of Shadowhunters, especially since Ruby’s mother was killed by Shadowhunters when they declared her rogue. Ruby is a dark brown and black wolf while Granny is silver. They are both trained fighters, although Granny usually runs the restaurant, Lupus Diner, which is a front for the werewolves.

Graham Humbert (31)

Graham was a human cop who was bitten by a werewolf and joined Snow’s pack. He is mated to Ruby Lucas and still works as a police officer. He is in charge of investigating the human connections to the Shadow World murders. He doesn’t really trust Shadowhunters, but doesn’t have quite the same hate for them as others. He is a brown and gray wolf.

Milah Auro (33)

Milah was a werewolf in the Misthaven pack and dating Killian, although their relationship was kept secret for obvious reasons. However, she was murdered by Pan and it was made to look like a Shadowhunter attack on a rogue werewolf. Milah’s death prompts Killian to pull away from the Clave and begin investigating Gold. Milah was a pretty black wolf.

Vampires

Belle French (124)

Belle French is the leader of the Misthaven coven of vampires and an old friend of Emma’s. The two aren’t incredibly close, but they respect each other and will come to each other’s aid. Belle keeps her coven on a tight leash and does not wish to give Shadowhunters an inch when it comes to coven business. She has worked hard to change the vampiric image and the recent killings disturb her. Belle’s true love is her library, but the snarky Will Scarlet is beginning to turn her head, something that hasn’t happened in decades. She and Snow have a fairly amicable agreement between the vampires and werewolves.

Arthur Pendragon (600+)

Arthur is a very old vampire that remembers the times when downworlders weren’t beholden to the Accords and wishes to return to that time. He is working with Pan and Zelena to double-cross Gold and bring down the Clave, restoring downworlders to their place as predators.

Victor Whale (107)

Whale is a vampire that was turned during World War II when he was serving as a doctor in Europe. Whale is in charge of getting blood shipments for Belle’s coven and mostly just wants to keep practicing medicine. He has found a few effective treatments for wounds dealt by Shadowhunter weapons or demon ichor.

Archie Hopper (300+)

An old vampire that often gives counsel to younger vampires and coven leaders. He is an oddly peaceful vampire who works as a therapist on the side. He is good friends with Emma and Belle.

Fair Folk

Tinkerbelle (Unknown)

A member of the Faerie Queen’s court, Tinkerbelle is a scout that often works with the Shadowhunters to bring murderers to justice. She is also the one who brings Pan’s plans to the attention of the Shadowhunters, but she doesn’t really trust them. She works mostly with Killian because Alycia was her friend and she trusts her sons. Tink is particularly deadly with a dagger.

Alycia (Unknown)

Alycia is a handmaiden to the Queen and a particularly trusted scout. She fell in love with Brennan and had two sons with him, but was forced to return to Court. She has little contact with her sons, but tries to let them know how much she loves them and how proud of them she is. Alycia has a son, Jefferson, from a previous relationship with a human.

Jefferson is a relatively young Fae who chose to leave the human world behind and accept the immortality offered by the Fae Court. He serves as diplomat and knight to the Queen and wishes to get to know his younger brothers better.

Peter Pan (Unknown)

Pan wants to rid the world of Shadowhunter influence and teams up with Gold to bring the Shadow World to the brink of war. He murders Milah and organizes the murder of both Shadowhunter and downworlder alike so that he can double-cross Gold and overthrow the Clave.

So Gold wants to destroy all downworlders; he enlists the help of Peter Pan to sow discord in the downworld and Cora to spread hate rhetoric. He particularly targets the Jones brothers, and Killian because he has friends in the downworld, his supposed to be parabatai was turned, and he has a wolf lover. Pan kills Milah, but makes it look like a Shadowhunter attack. While investigating her death, Killian comes across several cases of what looks like shadowhunter-on-downworlder crime and downworlder-on-shadowhunter crime. Tensions are rising and the brothers are in the middle. They team up with the downworld and work to bring Gold’s horrible plans to light.

Aw, hi anon! I’m very flattered you asked me, but I should add a disclaimer that I don’t really keep up with the AO3 tag like I used to and whatever list I make will almost definitely be missing some really good fic that came out the last few years that I just happened to miss. At this point most of my involvement with SHIELD fic is AUs that my wife and I make up and occasionally I go poking into the tag, but I don’t really have my finger on the pulse of fandom the way I used to.

I’ll Be the Rock Star if You’ll Be the Scientist by nerdwegian (T) - this is IMO a classic, and an absolute delight. I come back to it every now and again because it’s just a really fun story. It’s basically a season 1-era plot where FitzSimmons accidentally created a dinosaur and it escapes the plane using Lola, and the team has to get it back. It isn’t exclusively a romance fic but it feels like the way an actual episode would have handled them if they’d been canon early on. I’m very picky about character voices in fic, and I feel like this one really nails them.

Would It Be Okay If I Took Your Breath Away by pirateygoodness (E) - full disclosure, this is by my friend J @swashbucklery, but I liked this fic before we were friends! It’s just some very nice in-character smut, which at the time of its posting the tag was really in need of.

Blanket recommendation for all of JackEPeace’s AUs but I especially recall liking the reincarnation AU (T) and the Veronica Mars AU (T).

and if you’re still breathing (you’re the lucky ones) by plinys - 1x13 “T.R.A.C.K.S” fix-it that I like much more than the episode, obviously.

Here There Be Dragons by Selenay (T) - with the small caveat that I only read this once and don’t remember a lot of it, but I remember liking it.

To the Rescue (Here I Am) by plinys (T) - Power Rangers AU, which, I know there are a few of these floating around. I think this is the only one I ever read though, and it’s just cute and fun.

Also I’m not sure if you’re supposed to rec your own stuff on posts like these, but I’m gonna do it anyway because I created this tag, I’ve written like 2% of the whole thing, and I’m really quite proud of some of the stuff I’ve written (and my wife as well).

We have an ongoing BDSM/kink PWP series which we update whenever canon presents an opportunity, basically. If you want to read the fluffiest BDSM porn in the world look no further!

There is a Phantom of the Opera AU we wrote to dunk on Ward! It’s fun!

There is a loose medieval AU we wrote that (in retrospect) I think is kind of messy plot-wise but we had fun with it, and some people seemed to like it, so!

I used to write a companion fic after each episode of season 1 but then senior year of college said “fuck you” so I stopped doing that and now I feel like it would be too weird to go back lol. But people really liked it, it was some of the first fic in the tag (the first one WAS the first Skimmons fic on AO3), and I think it is still worth a look.

There’s a loose OUAT AU that I wrote for a friend that I’m still very fond of, because it has werewolves and I love werewolves.

Autostraddle once linked my cute fluffy Valentine’s Day fic and I have never fully recovered from the shock.

The fandom’s first High School AU ayyyyyy

I cannot overestimate the nicheness of the Warehouse 13 AU but a few people loved this and I swear I will go back to this AU someday!

B (my wife) has a vampire AU series that’s meant to be loosely True Blood AU and which I think is very fun. Most of it is porn, JSYK.

She also wrote a Fury Road AU which is very long and involved and involves multiple ships, but which I think is very good!

And she has a series of anthologies where she puts her Femslash February one-shot collections, as well as other one-shot collections (she did Skimmons Week awhile back for example)

Anyway! Again, I really haven’t dug into the tag very extensively the last few years, I’m sure I’m missing some great stuff, but hopefully that helps you out.

Some Thoughts about Tagging on AO3

(I originally made this post back in 2014 on the Yuletide LJ com, and I think it's still both helpful and useful, and other people have told me it is, but it's not actually in my own space, so here it is for posterity.)

There are a lot of people confused about what to tag their stuff on AO3. I mean, like, people who use AO3 regularly sometimes talk about not knowing how to tag their fic. And this is Yuletide; there are people who only post to AO3 for ficathons such as Yuletide, and they probably are even less sure what to do. There aren't many rules, and even the guidelines are kind of fuzzy. But yet there are many dedicated volunteers who spend many hours trying to make some sense out of the mess! It's chaotic and organized at the same time.

Fear not. I'm not a tag mod or anybody from AO3, but I am a power user of the site, and have been since it started, so I have a pretty good feel for the different ways people use the site and how people tag. So here are some suggestions, if you feel you need them.

ETA: Thanks to some wonderful feedback in the comments, I'm adding some other perspectives.

First, remember that the primary purpose of tags is to help people find stuff they'd like to read. No matter what your philosophy of tagging is, your goal should be to make it easy for people to find your fic and decide if they want to read it.

There are two basic ways people use tags when they're looking for fic.

1. Clicking on tags they want to read. Do you want to look for a particular fandom, character, or pairing? You can click on a tag and get all of them to come up. But you can use tags to find so much more than just the basics! Do you want to read wing!fic? Search for it on the archive and click the wingfic tag and you'll get a list of all fics tagged with "wings" or "wingfic" or something similar. The tag mods have done a lot of background work to make sure that similar tags (i.e. every permutation of wingfic ever used) are put together so when you're looking for wingfic you don't have to think of every possible permutation of what someone might have tagged it. They'll all come up. Now, if you click on the "wingfic" tag, it will bring up every wingfic in every fandom. Which is great if you're polyfannish like I am and don't necessarily care what fandom something is if it hits whatever kink you have right then. If you are more monofannish, then the sort and filter bar on the left side of the "Works" list is your friend, but either way, the tag is the first place to start. People look for a lot of things. Here are some categories that people may search tags for, either within a particular fandom or across the archive:

fandoms, characters, relationships, obviously.

AU types: is it a canon divergence, is it a highschool au, or a coffee shop, or whatever?

SFnal or fantasy elements: time travel, wings, magic, werewolves, telepethy, etc

Genres: angst, fluff, mystery, comedy.

Trigger warnings to avoid: mentions of rape or abuse (things not warned for in the warning tags).

Tropes: Aliens made them do it, kidfic, etc.

Sex stuff: kinks, positions, sex toys, polyamory, etc.

Social justice stuff: bechdel pass, character of color POV, etc.

Fandom specific stuff: is it related to a particular episode, or season, is it about a particular theme or backstory or trope or characterization that your fandom likes, is there any other fandom-specific thing that people might look for?

2. When they are deciding whether or not to read a particular fic. That is, a potential reader is looking at a fic in a list on AO3 (maybe they're going through the fandom's page, maybe they're looking at an author's works list, etc.) or perhaps have clicked on a link in a rec list and have opened the story up to see more about it, but the fic is in front of them and they haven't yet decided whether or not to read it. In this case, tags are one of a couple of things people will be looking at. The summary is the biggie; at this point it's usually the first thing people look at. They will also look at word count--they may be looking for an epic, they may be looking for a vignette, either way, word count matters. They'll look at the rating--do they want something hot and heavy, or not? They'll look at the comment/kudo/bookmark/hit counts--how popular is this fic? And they'll look at the tags. What is this fic tagged for? Characters, pairings, fandom, etc., all can be useful, but so can many other things.

This is why people add chatty tumblr-style tags, such as "Tony Stark has Daddy Issues." That tag tells you a lot about the story that may not be evident from the summary. You can add any tag like that you want, that will help people get a feel for your story. If it's unique, clicking on it won't help them find other stories like it and it won't help people find your fic, either, but it may well help people who have already found your fic decide if they want to read it. And, if enough people tag things with a chatty tag like "Tony Stark Has Daddy Issues," eventually the tag mods will take it and make it into a tag you can search on just like more general tags such as "wingfic." (There are currently 51 fics on the archive tagged "Tony Stark Has Daddy Issues.") Also, chatty tags like that can sometimes be made subtags for larger tags, so that "Tony Stark Has Daddy Issues." is a subtag of "Daddy Issues.", and then you can click on the Daddy Issues tag and filter by fandom and/or character.

3. Looking for things to avoid. If a trope squicks someone, they want to know before they click on the story. If someone hates a character or relationship, they want to know if it's in a story. Even if it's only in a minor/background way. Protip from tag wrangler liviapenn:

"if you are posting a story and you want to indicate that the character or ship appears in the story -- but only in a minor/background role -- you can tag for them in the "Additional Tags" field, with a modifier. For instance, "Minor appearance by Sam Wilson". Or, a tag like "Very minor background Tony Stark/Pepper Potts" or "Past Tony Stark/Pepper Potts" for a story where Tony and Pepper's relationship is only mentioned but not really important in the story. Then those stories won't come up when people are searching for Tony/Pepper in the Relationships field. You can also make 'warning' type Additional Tags more specific or accurate, with modifiers like "implied," "referenced," "minor," "mentioned", "non-graphic" or "past", if the story doesn't seriously focus on those topics, but you still want to indicate that they appear in the work, even in a minor or slight way."

(ALSO, if you are one of these people, the "Sort and filter" bar on the right side of the page is your friend. I hate, loathe, and despise Killian Jones on Once Upon a Time, and so whenever I'm searching for OUaT fic on the archive I go to the "Sort and Filter" bar, go down to the Exclude section, and I check his name and any pairings he appears in. Then I hit the "sort and filter" button at the bottom of that bar, and poof! It's like he never existed! It's wonderful.)

So how does this affect how you tag your fic? I'm so glad you asked. It means you need to take both uses of tags--finding fic, and deciding if you want to read a fic you've found--into account. As you tag, ask yourself: what in my fic might people want to read? What kind of craving would my fic satisfy? Tag for those things (fandoms, characters, relationships, tropes, kinks, whatever). Then ask yourself: once people have found my fic, what might help them decide they want to read my fic? Then tag for that. Then ask yourself: is there anything in my fic that might squick people or that they might want to avoid? Then tag for that, too. Autocomplete is your friend. As you start typing in the tag field, it will bring up tags people have already used, which are searchable, and which may therefore help people find your fic.

But beware! Before you hit "post," look at your tags and ask yourself: is there any deceptive advertising here? By which I mean, if someone is looking specifically for a fic with something you tagged for, are they going to be disappointed in your fic? Different people use tags differently, so you can't please everybody. But sometimes a selective approach can be better than a "kitchen sink" approach where you select every tag that might be half-way applicable.

As an example, take Sam Wilson. He is tagged in over 2800 stories on AO3 ... but in the vast majority of them, he's a sidekick, if that. Yes, he appears in each of these fics, but he's a very small part of the story in most of them. When I go looking for Sam Wilson fic, I sigh, because I may get three pages in to the list of works tagged "Sam Wilson" before I find one where he's important enough in the story to get mentioned in the summary. Having to slog through all those fics about other Avengers to get to the fics about the character I want to read about does not make me likely to read those stories. It makes me annoyed, because they're taking up my time and preventing me from finding the stories I actually want to read right now! I love reading about Steve's angst over Bucky, and Bucky's recovery, but if what I'm craving at the moment is Sam Wilson pwning everything, 50k words of Buck-and-Steve angst in which Sam appears in three scenes is just not going to scratch my itch. On the other hand, some people may find a mention that Sam plays a role in the story to be the difference that makes them read this Steve/Bucky fic over some other one. Even so, if he appears briefly but isn't significant to the plot, even they may be annoyed.

Now, as sandrine points out, some people have aversions to particular characters, pairings, and tropes, such that including them in your fic will completely ruin the fic for them even if all that happens is a one sentence mention buried in 100k of fic. For example, some Science Bros and Steve/Tony fans prefer not to read about Tony/Pepper. (I get it, because I loathe Killian Jones with the passion of a thousand burning suns.) liviapenn points out that (instead of using a regular character tag), if you put a tag with a modifier in the "Additional Tags" category (for example, "background Tony/Pepper"), it will be there for people who want to avoid it but won't pop up for people searching it out with the main character or relationship tags.

Just use some common sense, folks. Tag for everything important, and don't bother with the minor stuff. And you're the one who knows your story best; you know what's important in your story.

On creating new tags: This is particularly important for Yuletiders to know, since so many of us will be creating tags for characters and fandoms that did not exist on the archive before this Yuletide.

The only other advice I would give is for people posting stories in superhero comics fandoms. So many superhero names are very generic, or shared by multiple people within one canon (like the 3 or 4 different versions of "Robin", "The Flash" or "Supergirl" in DC fandom.) If there's a possibility that your character's cape name might have been used for another character (in your fandom or another fandom) maybe consider tagging with their "real" name instead of (or in addition to) their "cape" name. So for instance, "Tim Drake" or "Robin - Tim Drake" "Tim Drake aka Robin" -- any of those would be better than just "Robin". Finally, if you want to find out whether a tag already exists in some format you can use the Tag Search page: http://archiveofourown.org/tags/search So let's say I wanted to find out if there's a canonical tag for food carts or food trucks. I would go to the tag search page and type in "cart* " (which brings up any word that starts with "cart") and click the Canonical ticky box. This just brings up a lot of tags about Sam Carter and Peggy Carter though. So I hit backspace and type in "truck* " and click the Canonical ticky box, and this will bring up all canonical tags that have a word that starts with truck in it, and hey, one of them is Food Trucks. Freeform: Alternate Universe - Truckers ‎(10) Freeform: Truckers ‎(8) Freeform: Food Trucks ‎(7) Freeform: Episode: s08e07 Shawn and Gus Truck Things Up ‎(1) Freeform: Trucks ‎(11) If anyone has any other questions about tagging I'd be glad to answer them!

As another tag wrangler, I'd just add that the thing about cape names applies generally really - if you want to make a freeform (or any tag) involving your characters, remember the archive is a big place and expanding all the time with fandoms in multiple media, so the more you use full names etc., the more likely it is the tag can stay in your fandom or eventually become canonical. one of the joys of Yuletide is that it's about fic in rare fandoms or non-existent-till-now fandoms, but that does mean you might well find yourself posting the first fic in a fandom or for that pairing or character - and that means you have to create that tag yourself. So I just wanted to add - don't be nervous of doing that! You don't have to read through archive tagging guidelines and get it perfect; just be as clear and specific as you can, especially with fandom tags, where the wranglers dealing with those might never have heard of it. The same with new character and relationship tags - do add them! Just be sure to use full names in both categories, and if the names are very common or likely to cause confusion, add something like the fandom name in brackets to make doubly sure. Wranglers can link up any tags like these no problem - it's only when things aren't clear (ambiguous), that it gets tricky. (Wranglers in tiny fandoms love it when they suddenly have actual tags to wrangle! ♥)

One other thing I'd like to suggest is keeping each freeform/additional tag to one discrete concept! For example, "Tony Stark Has Daddy Issues" is a single concept; "Tony Stark has daddy issues and mommy issues and luckily lots of money too" includes several, and is unlikely to ever become filterable in any way. Also, if a single concept is split across multiple tags, a wrangler often can't do anything with the individual tags-- for example, the two tags "his heart", "it is so broken" is likely going to end up with both tags unfilterable instead of being linked to a canonical tag like Heartbreak.

When a new tag is created (i.e. when someone tags their fic with something that has never before been tagged) it is not yet canonical--that is, when you click on it, you won't bring up any other fic tagged with it, and even if someone else uses that tag, at this point it won't come up when you click on the tag. That only changes when a tag wrangler--a volunteer with AO3, in charge of wrangling tags for that particular fandom--looks at it and decides what to do with it. Most chatty tags get ignored (unless the wrangler has seen others very similar). New fandom tags and character tags get made 'canonical' and attached to particular fandoms, so that a) they will now be clickable so you can find other fic tagged with that tag once other people use it and b) it will come up in the autocomplete. Other tags that the wrangler thinks will be generally useful (i.e. anything that other writers might use) get made canonical as well, either attached to the fandom (Tony Stark's Daddy Issues) or not attached to the fandom (mpreg, wingfic, etc). Tags that are close to/mean the same thing as other tags already in use get 'synned' to those tags, so "Bechdel Pass" and "Bechdel Test Pass" become functionally the same tag--you click on one, you get all the fics tagged with one or the other, so you don't need to know the exact tag you're looking for if you can get close.

What actually makes life harder for tag wranglers? People tagging obscure characters or OCs who are not in the work. Private bookmark tags that use terms we’ve never seen before. Smushnames. Comma fail. Drafts that stay for months because people keep editing them. All of those are allowed, and hardly anyone ever says anything about them outside of wrangler spaces.

If you spot a tag that you think is wrong (wrong spelling of a name, for example, which I've come across a couple of times--for some reason Vulcan women often get their names improperly capitalized, T'lar instead of T'Lar, that sort of thing) you can report it! At the bottom of every AO3 page is a link to "Technical Support and Feedback." Your comment will be sent to the tag wrangler for that fandom, and they can then either fix or explain the issue. “Run to Me (in the Dead of Night)”

Well, folks, here we are at last - the final installment of my CSSNS MC. I can’t believe it’s really over (or that it has carried all the way into the new year.) But I have had a lot of fun exploring the world of this werewolf AU, and I am so thankful for everyone who read and encouraged me along the way as I wrote. I am sorry I kept you waiting for the loose ends to be tied up and the happy ending achieved, but I hope you will enjoy this last segment. I may check back in with these versions of the characters and this verse with a shorter look into the future if there is a second CSSNS. (After all, I did leave a small hint or two for things that might yet be brewing in the plot!) But for now, here we are at the finish line complete.

epilogue ~ moments in the moonlight

A few days after Emma and Killian’s successful deal with the Dark One, a hesitant sort of waiting peace had fallen over Storybrooke as life seemed to return to its version of normal. Gold had made no noticeable moves to break his word, and though none of those who had fought for a sense of safety against he, Cora, and Regina were going to quit watching him closely, the intensely charged atmosphere of the previous weeks and the sense of constantly awaiting the next calamity or attack, had begun to subside. Henry and Snow, both as student and teacher, had returned to their regular school routine. Emma and Graham had gone back to regular shifts at the station handling once-more mundane complaints of dwarf squabbles, Mr. and Mrs. Sprat’s domestic disturbances in the grocery aisles, and Widow Shue’s numerous kids making too much noise in the backyard and bothering the neighbors. Killian seemed to be settling into town as well, planning to make it a more long-term home. When not with Emma and Henry, or out and about with David and Graham, both of whom were becoming the closest friends he’d had since the loss of his brother, the pirate puttered around on his ship, either cleaning or seeing that it was airtight and warm enough to remain habitable in the fast-approaching winter months.

Tucked away in her cozy office in the very back corner of the library however, one evening just a few days before Thanksgiving, Belle French fought to keep recent events and the distressing tangle of emotion knotting her gut from overrunning her mind. It was easier, admittedly, now that she wasn’t alone. Graham had stopped in after he was done at the sheriff’s station for the day, Granny’s takeout in hand for their dinner, and they had just finished eating in warm companionship, both of them more than anything grateful to no longer be eating alone, to have the other’s presence beside them to dispel the regrets and doubts whispering in their minds.

When at last she looked up to gaze full in his focused, understanding face, already looking back at her and seeming to read behind her attempt at a casual smile and false normalcy, Belle found herself catching her breath at the zing of warmth and electricity that went skittering through her. Tossing the napkin she had already crumpled into the paper bag on the table between them, she reached for the sheriff’s large, calloused hand, already held out open and waiting for her on the wooden tabletop. She couldn’t have imagined before this just how much comfort there was in simply being known - truly known, accepted, and understood intrinsically by someone else. She had come to feel nearly invisible with Rumple quite quickly upon regaining her sense of self (and more memories of the Enchanted Forest). There had been good moment long ago, but in truth she had been more of a shadow of the brave adventuress she’d always hoped. Yes, Rumple had needed her, but as an extension of himself, to keep him behaving as the good person he should have already been. Graham needed her too, but in the way any person would need someone they cared for; moreover, it was the same way that she needed him as well.

There was no judgement or impatience on Graham’s face, only concern and a desire to help as his thumb rubbed soothingly over the back of her hand. “What is it, Belle?” he asked, voice low and calming in the dim light of her single desk lamp in the silent echoes of the library closed for the day. “Something is clearly bothering you… Maybe it would help to share it?”

Belle squeezed the hand that held her own reassuringly, before wrapping her free hand around their interwoven fingers, wanting to hold onto him that much more for his compassion and his intuition, traits she knew had made her initial gratitude and attraction to him swell into all that she felt for him now. It wasn’t that she couldn’t share her worry with him, she thought as she shook her head in agitation, it was that she didn’t quite know how to try. Finally, she bit her lip and then, with a released whoosh of breath, she plowed ahead impulsively, “It’s just that...well...I don’t really feel relieved. You know? I mean, I assumed that if we were able to stop Rumple - and Emma and Killian forcing his hand into that deal seems to have worked, at least for the time being - then I would feel more at ease, like I could safely move on. But I don’t feel any better about it… more sort of hollow...and anxious too, like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop.”

Graham scooted his chair closer, obviously trying to offer a shoulder if she needed it; despite her having noticed that in most situations he didn’t tend to get overly close in proximity to other people unless absolutely necessary. “If you’re worried that we’ve dropped our guard, we haven’t. Everyone knows Gold is quite possibly only safe until he finds a way out of the deal he struck-”

But she interrupted him, shaking her head and turning away from his searching, deep eyes that she felt could look right into and read her very soul if she let him. “No, it’s not that. Well, there is the worry that he’ll find a loophole and attack us the first chance he gets, but it’s more that I can’t believe I was ever foolish enough to think he would change, that he could be different. So much wasted time, so much of my own life lost for a cause that was always hopeless.”

Graham’s fingers were tender, barely brushing over her skin as he ever-so-softly touched her chin to move her face back to his. “Please don’t say that,” he husked, his voice raspy with strangled emotion as he continued. “Your faith in others, your hope, your belief that we can overcome and change, that we do control our own fates… I… I love that about you.”

Her breath caught at his admission, long lashes blinking rapidly as she met his eyes now, transfixed and unable to look away.

“Don’t let him take that from you,” Graham finished breathlessly, his chest heaving as if he had just run for miles, and a surprising red flush climbing up his neck before his eyes dropped to the wood of the desk between them and then finishing with a murmured, “I couldn’t bear it.”

It took Belle a minute to get her wits about her, her thoughts pinging and racing in every direction at once and her heart beating as though it might pump right out of her chest, but she felt the sheriff beside her tensed to move, as if embarrassed to have said too much and preparing himself to withdraw. Quickly, she gripped his hand a little tighter, until he looked back into her face.

“You...you love me?” she whispered, not at all certain she could believe her ears.

Graham wordlessly nodded at that without saying anything more aloud. She could read his expression just then, as much as she had ever felt that he could read hers. She had been beating herself up for her own mistakes, both in the past and the present, fearing that her failures would always be laid out before her, but she could see in that weighted moment that her werewolf boyfriend carried all the same self-doubt and fear. He wasn’t sure that what had happened to him, what he had been made into and forced to do, would ever be fully behind him, or if anyone could look at him without seeing the damage, and yet despite it all, he was reaching out to her.

Belle didn’t know if it was right or if it was wrong, too much or too fast, but in that moment, with the flood of emotion he’d brought forth in her, she couldn’t hold back. Leaning forward over their joined hands, she pressed her mouth to his, savoring the soft feel of his lips in a first kiss full of the hope he had just reignited within her, and everything else she felt for him besides.

When Graham opened for her, drinking her in with a low hum of pleasure and kissing back, it was so enthusiastic that before she knew it, he was pulling her toward him over the table until she was curled, giggling in his lap, sheltered by his warm embrace as he peppered more kisses to her hair, cheeks, and forehead. They might both still be broken, but together they were going to mend the jagged edges.

High on the hill overlooking Storybrooke, later that same night, Emma and Killian sat on the hood of her VW Bug, alternately stargazing and making out like the two carefree teenagers neither of them had ever really gotten the chance to be. Emma was just pondering the fact, when the idea of her deputy father on duty tonight catching them up here, flashing lights and stern expression and all the trappings he would have certainly pulled out if he’d actually been able to parent her when she was sixteen, seventeen, lost and living on the wild side. A chuckle escaped her at the both preposterous and yet utterly plausible mental image, causing Killian to pull back with an affronted look as she buried her head in his shoulder, her own shaking with silent mirth.

“And just what is so funny?” he questioned. “A man could begin to doubt himself when his lady love begins to laugh instead of melt at his romantic overtures.”

“Easy there, Wolf Man,” she soothed, trailing her hand along his open collar and into the exposed hair of his chest with idly stroking fingers, both their heart rates picking up at the gesture. “No need to get your hackles up. You’re doing just fine, trust me.”

A teasing grin quirked her delectable lips as she stared up at him, offering a seductive wink for good measure, even as she decided for herself that though she would definitely tell him later what had made her laugh and let him gain a chuckle from it as well, it wasn’t the time just then, nor did she want the heavy chemistry rippling between them broken with humor.

Killian, for his part, saw her green eyes darken from sparkling jade to forest deepness with want and was more than happy to let the matter drop for the present. All sensible thought fled him at that moment anyway, as Emma’s hand crawled up his neck to scratch behind his ear, making it all he could do not to whine in the back of his throat like a mere pup begging a treat from its owner. Emma did own him, body and soul, in all the ways that mattered. Killian saw no purpose or sense in denying it.

However, once he managed to gather a few threads of coherent thought, he leaned forward to growl warningly against her skin, not quite willing to let her win the upper hand so easily. “You’re playing with fire, Emma...as you well know. Toying with me that way wakes the beast within…”

She shivered at the husky intonation of his words, his meaning all too clear. In truth, she couldn’t help thinking that might be just what she was after; she was only too eager to let him devour her with tooth, tongue, and claw. Still, there had been a reason they’d chosen this particular spot for the evening, and the time was fast approaching. The full moon above was nearly at its peak.

Seeming to recall himself just as Emma did, Killian pulled back from her slightly, his forehead resting against hers as they both tried to catch their breath. Finally, with a quick kiss to the tip of her nose, he slid off the hood of the car and stood, looking back at her with hope and uncertainty warring in his eyes. “Swan, in all seriousness, are you sure about wanting to wait for me? It could get quite chilly up here tonight.

Emma could only nod her head at him at first, wondering how he still didn’t quite see his own worth in her eyes, how intensely she wanted to be with him every moment she could. “Yes, Jones, I’m sure,” she said at last, with some exasperation, not failing to notice the affection and joy that flooded his face with her confirmation. “It’s only a few hours, right? Go - have your run. Maybe it’s the loosed beast I’m anxious to see when you get back.”

Killian visibly swallowed hard at her last words, but then a devilish gleam entered those mesmerizing eyes of his, and she could see his tongue poke into the corner of his mouth as he replied with a promise that set the blood in her veins on fire. “Have it your way, Love. I can say with some certainty that he’ll be salivating to see you too by the time I return.”

With that, he divested himself of his shirt, pulling it up over his head and baring his scarred and heavily furred chest as well as the ripple of stomach muscles that accompanied the action. Emma’s mouth went dry at the sight, even as she reached out her hand dumbly to take the shirt from him, along with the pants, socks, and boxers that followed. Looking up at her once more with a smirk, knowing that she was staring at his nude form as she clutched the discarded clothing to her chest, Killian then jogged into the treeline and was gone.

A few minutes later, Emma heard the singular, haunting and powerful howl of a wolf from well within the forest and knew that his transformation was complete. It had taken Killian a huge amount of trust to bring her here and let her into as much of the process as he dared, still not completely willing to shift into lupine form right in front of her; knowing that for a brief amount of time, just when the change was complete, he was purely a wild animal. Though he could swiftly regain control of his mind, he refused to risk even the slightest chance that he might hurt or frighten her in that minute lapse of time.

He had told her that he could actually hold the transformation off completely, but she sensed within his statement that it wasn’t a pleasant option, and when pressed, Killian had admitted that it was distressing - like an itch under the skin that couldn’t be scratched - if not downright painful, when one continued to fight nature. He didn’t know if it could do permanent damage, but Emma hadn’t wanted him to test the theory anyway. Yes, Henry was with her father tonight - out on a camping trip with him, Graham, his friend Nicholas, and Nick’s father, but she could wait a few hours. Plus, if she were honest, she was more than a bit curious, and not in the least turned off. So there she was, waiting for her love’s return.

It really was almost more than a cynic like her could believe, all that had happened in the last few months. At Thanksgiving this year, she had more to be grateful for than she could have fathomed possible not so long ago. She had the son she had lost - that she’d broken her own heart to give up for his best chance - back in her life, she had parents who loved her and had always wanted her, she had found love with a man she knew was devoted and true, she had genuine friends in Graham, Ruby, Belle, and many more of the quirky inhabitants of their little hamlet, and she had a job she enjoyed, that she was respected for doing well. Most of all, the lost girl who had still been hiding beneath her armour, had finally found her home.

Musing on all of that, Emma also had to concede that of course life still wasn’t perfect. There might yet be dark magic and curses that could come their way, along with everyday human heartache and trial, and of course she wasn’t going to turn her back on Mr. Gold, deal or not, but things were as near perfection as she had ever known. She felt stronger in belonging to a place and to these people than she had ever been before all alone.

A rustling of dried leaves and underbrush alerted her to turn back to the forest just in time to see a familiar dark black wolf emerge from the trees, its startling blue eyes intense and knowing, even in the face of a different being. The majestic animal lifted its snout slightly, as if catching her scent on the wind and savoring it before gazing back at her and taking another step forward. Speechless, Emma could have sworn the animal licked its chops before pacing toward her. Then, as suddenly as he had appeared, he seemed to stretch and rearrange before her very eyes. She blinked disbelievingly, even though she had known it was him and what he was capable of, and when she looked again, it was Killian stalking toward her purposefully, nearly knocking her off her feet as he reached her and swept her up in a breathless, hungry kiss.

Okay, so I wanted to put down some of the things that I want to write and do on this blog. I have a hard time asking for things that I want to do but putting out a sort of “wishlist” so to speak is a good way to start the process I guess? I’ll put it under a read more as I expect this to get quite long, but anyone willing to power through.... you the true mvps. I’m thinking of just listing some ideas and thoughts I have for each character and going from there. If any of these interest you, hmu!!!

Because this already got long quickly, I’m probably gonna post a p2 at some other point (since I have to leave work in a few) but this is just some ideas of what I want to do

For Magneto, I want to explore A LOT of different ideas. I want to venture into a time where he seeks redemption for his actions. I draw some inspiration from the comics in that his mutation drove him insane to certain degrees and that he was altered and “fixed” by Moira so to speak. I want to see him as a teacher, more first class threads. I want to go off on an au where he was blinded in the experiments during his time at the concentration camps and uses his ability as a means to “see”.

For Anna Valerious, I want interactions with other werewolves and vampires. I want her to see a world where she may overcome her ignorance to see that they are not all controlled/not all evil. I want interactions where she becomes a werewolf instead of her brother. I want Anna as part of the rebellion in a Star Wars verse. Her personality fits well with the rebellion and she reminds me a lot about Poe tbh.

For Emma Swan, s1 interactions are the best interactions and you cant ever change my mind about that. I want more of her bail bondswoman days and pairing up with police or detectives to solve a case accidentally while trying to get her money back. Because she is the product of true love and holds power inside of her, I want supernatural creatures to find her. I have a verse for The Vampire Diaries/The Originals where she becomes a new line of witches because of the magic of what she is and it would make her a target. This could apply in a lot of different ways.

I wanna get Emma thrown into the Star Wars universe with her verse that can be found HERE because she struggles with light and dark as is seen in ouat and I want to focus on the fact that she is not always entirely good nor is she entirely bad. The struggle is perfect in a star wars setting and she’d have a lot of means to interact with the first order. I also have this little headcanon that could make things A LOT more interesting as well. I have a lot of thoughts on this and could very well discuss it more in depth with people who are interested.

For Hermione Granger, I want threads involving her time after the war. I headcanon her having a mental break, ending up in St. Mungo’s. She struggles with PTSD after what Bellatrix did to her. I want threads of her in her 7th year when she goes back to hogwarts after the battle. I have her canon divergent in that she doesn’t pursue a career in the Ministry and actually becomes a teacher at Hogwarts. Education had been so important for her and to just abandon that seems strangely ooc? I want her teaching the next generation.

For Elizabeth Shaw I want ALL THE SPACE THINGS. Listen, I don’t use her enough and I need her in a WHOLE BUNCH OF THINGS. She can be in Star Wars, Star Trek, The Expanse, EVENT HORIZON AU. Just, I need all the shit. I need science/space bros. I gotta have it.

For Peter from What Still Remains, I want some post apocalyptic shit. This bitch is a cult leader guys. Like ????? he’s part of a religious cult that leads unsuspecting people to possibly death or to be part of his religion and he’s pretty extremist and crazy. If you catch him before he joins the cult, he probably wouldn’t be bad actually. Probably a normal dude trying to protect himself in the apocalypse. Catch him post-cult after it’s been destroyed then he’s a bit unhinged and probably psychotic. Either way, it’s bound to be an interesting time.

5. Most popular fic this year

My most popular fic this year was Brunch. This was a totally impromptu fic that wasn’t planned, but it is possibly my most liked/reblogged post on Tumblr this year. Y’all are really into breakfast food related innuendo with a dash of humor, hehe.

14. A fic you didn’t expect to write

Honestly, that would probably also be Brunch, but since I used that for the previous question, I’ll chose something else. I think my CSSNS story, Until the Stars are All Alight fits the bill. While I’ve enjoyed reading the stories everyone has written for the CS Supernatural Summer, I never expected to join the event myself, mainly because I’m just not that into supernatural stuff like werewolves and vampires and the like. But then something happened. The idea to do a CS/LOTR crossover just wouldn’t leave me, and so here we are. This story is taking me the longest to write of any multi chapter I’ve ever done, but the extra time I’m taking to mull over ideas seems to be paying off. Usually the chapter I end up with is quite a bit different from the chapter I originally planned to write, but it’s better than my original plan. Note: with the ridiculous busyness of this time of year, I’ve kind of had to put writing this story on hold for the moment, but don’t worry. It won’t be abandoned, and I have the next chapter mapped out in detail, so after the holidays, hopefully I’ll be able to update faster.

19. Any new fics to start next year?

No specific plans, but I still have a few ideas I’m mulling over. I would like to write a fluffy “what was happening in SB during season 7” fic which basically just shows the SB folks living out their happy beginnings. If I could make any sense of timelines and how things work together, I’d like to write a “season 8” fic. I’ve been mulling over an OUAT/Manifest cross over. I would like to write a CS Kate and Leopold au and maybe an au of one of Jane Austen’s books—Pride and Prejudice is my favorite, but it’s been done a few times before, so maybe Persuasion? Which I work on or whether I end up working on any of them is anyone’s guess, but those are my thoughts so far.

23. Fics you wanted to write but didn’t

Any of the fic ideas from the question above would work for this question as well, but beyond that, I’ve seen so many interesting fandom fic events over the last year that I would have loved to join. Unfortunately this past year, it just wasn’t a possibility. It’s been a busy year fraught with a lot of personal/family stuff, some good, some bad, that’s kept me busy. Fingers crossed for a calmer, less busy 2020!

play things of man’s vanity ( true blood au ) -- Dracula, the son of the Devil, is the oldest and most feared vampire in modernity. With only whispers of a real Dracula, he is assumed to be nothing but a myth -- a character written in books and projected onto screens, yet the vampire king is as alive as any vampire can be and watches as The Authority consumes itself while worshiping the false idol that is Lilith.

in a land without color ( ouat au ) -- Dracula, having been brought to Storybrooke from The Land Without Color, holds claim to a large estate far superseding the size of Regina or Gold’s homes, given his status. He holds domain over all wolves that call the forest around his guarded home and of every night creature that calls Storybrooke home. He is the mysterious stranger, having never found a need to conspire with the citizens that call the city limits home.

Hi! Love your blog! What do you think of a Vampire Garcyatt AU? How do you think it could playout?

Ahaha, I invented a detailed modern vampire/werewolf world for my OUAT/CS fic Incarcerus, so it would be set in that same verse. It has a social network (Fangd), blood replacements (O-Neg), a government system and hierarchy and etc. Basically, the vampires become classified as Old Ones after the age of two hundred and fifty (I think, lol, that or two hundred, I can’t remember my own verse right now) and that’s when they have to go on a registry and be kept track of, because they could be dangerous if they chose to be; they have enough abilities and resistance to sunlight and so forth. There is a daylight shot that allows them to stay outside if they have to, and there was a lot of the history about how they became vampires and the lore that goes with that, and how that has changed their relations with werewolves and the laws they have now. (Anyway, it was a fun universe and I came up with a ton of stuff, so yes.)

In this setup, Flynn would be a dangerous Old One who has been out of sight and off the registry for quite a while, and nobody has heard from him. He is a loner without any territory, which vampires normally have, and there have been worries among the vampire community that he has resurfaced. He was made a vampire in 1780 when the powerful Old One David Rittenhouse and his followers attacked his family and killed them in retaliation for Flynn working as a Van Helsing-esque vampire hunter. One of Rittenhouse’s followers turned Flynn, he has never known which one and has killed a lot of them trying to find out; he is a vampire who hates himself and hates the others and thinks they’re all monsters, especially him, and yes, he is absolutely a Dark Prince of the Night and bad news whenever he turns up. And broods like a champ, obviously.

Lucy is younger; she is the daughter of the Vampire Queen of San Francisco, Carol Preston, and was born the normal way before Carol was turned into a vampire in the 1920s by Nicholas Keynes, who is also a member of Rittenhouse and was turned personally by David, making Lucy Rittenhouse’s blood great-granddaughter. Rittenhouse is a secret vampire society that has always insisted on the superiority of supernaturals – they have all these powers and abilities, they have a right to rule over humans and they resist all this wishy-washy soft inoffensive modern views of what vampires should be like. Lucy was made a vampire in the early 50s when she was biologically about 30, and has studied as a historian and learned a lot about both human and supernatural history. She does not know about Rittenhouse or her place in it, though due to her mother being a vampire queen, she’s always been some kind of princess. (Also, Emma is definitely a vampire who is super hella scary and tends to kill instead of just drinking from people – it’s possible for vampires to feed on humans without killing them, and human servants/fixers are known as drones, who live with vampires and get fed on, but anyway yes, Emma is vicious.)

Meanwhile, Wyatt is a redneck werewolf from Texas who has been in the army with his pack but a lot of them have gotten killed, as well as his wife (she was a human but she was murdered by Rittenhouse, which he doesn’t know, because Rittenhouse are all vampires and really still hate werewolves, even though the rest of vampire society kind of grudgingly tolerates them and vice versa). Wyatt is now kind of drifting and spinning out and has moved to the Bay Area in hopes of joining a new pack there, which is… not going well.

(Rufus is the snarky human friend to all these dramatic af supernaturals, and just spends all his time judging them and being like WELL LOOK WHO WOKE UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE COFFIN and DON’T PEE ON THE FIRE HYDRANT WYATT and otherwise making them stare at him like we could kill you But We Won’t)

Anyway, Lucy and Wyatt get thrown together to investigate these rumors of the Old One Flynn resurfacing, and Rufus has to help as well, and so it’s a vampire, a werewolf, and a human working together at first and it doesn’t go well. They of course don’t know about Rittenhouse, which Flynn is tearing through supernatural society trying to eradicate, and that goes kind of like canon with them trying to stop Flynn and him being Garbage and really extra sassy and garbage and Drama with 200+ years more experience. But eventually they of course realize that he’s right, and Lucy is drawn to him but Wyatt Hates Him ��, and that starts to change a little, and they end up on the same side, and then…

And aye, the red jacket is such a good look? You tap well into the witty red-jacket-wearing action heroine vibe of fantasy/fantasy-esque media with it (just off the top of my head from shows I’ve haunted, Emma Swan in OUAT and Beverly Katz from Hannibal), and Arthur just looks good in red. *SHRUG* Puppy can be BAMF and try not to get his favourite jacket shredded by wolfing out whilst still wearing it or getting into a fight. And Gabriel approves of his werewolf bf wearing clothes that are difficult for (other) vampires to get their fangs through.

My tag for the vamp/wolf au is BB:WPtG because its two main fics are titled Barks. Bites. and Whistle Past the Graveyard - although I lost most of my work on the first before any of it got posted online and was a bit too heartsore about it to try writing it again. But I mention it because BB was pretty much how Art/Gab first met and got together, being major dicks to each other for most of the way. And Arthur was 20, underage in a club with fake ID and alcohol, and got into a fight because a vampire was being a dick to the witches Arthur was cheerfully, reciprocally, hitting on chatting to. Boy was always a little punk with a spiteful streak of righteous vengeance in him, and kind of always recklessly put his money where his mouth was? It was kind of what made him so interesting to a 700+ year-old vampire lord like Gabriel in the first place: Arthur was fascinating, Arthur was amusing, and Arthur is a bb werewolf yet laid out one of Gab’s vamps flat. And then took up the fight with Gabriel... and kicked Sr. Vampire Lord in the family jewels. So. Fascination? Revenge?

...Anyway, much later than all of that, I’m sticking by my sugar daddy naming of Gab bc the dumbass is old, rich, and so, so indulgent of anything his werewolf boyfriend wants, or anything the vampires in his House may get that is for or will benefit their lord’s aesthetic appreciation of Arthur in some way? Meaning there’s always good food in the kitchen/pantry bc werewolves need a more varied diet than vampires and a lot more food to eat after they shift between wolf and humanoid forms. And when Arthur shifts between wolf and human, Arthur is naked. And too tired to put on a lot of clothing. And so, in the interests of Arthur not putting his bare behind on the kitchen countertops, certain little vampiric shits keep leaving Arthur booty shorts with terrible slogans on the arse to wear and Arthur just. Does Not Care. Too sleepy. Eats a joint of meat and three pies wearing his collar and teeny tiny hot pink shorts that say HOT BUNS on the butt.
