Okay hear me out: Zutara/PaintedSpirit Aladdin AU. Katara's a princess (Jasmine) and Zuko is Aladdin except this time Aladdin is an actual prince who disguises himself as a "street rat" (or the Blue Spirit?). Zuko and Katara are betrothed, but they dislike each other. However, each night when Katara sneaks out as the Painted Lady, she meets the Blue Spirit and they begin to fall for each other, just as Katara and Zuko begin to realize they have more in common and grow closer. Anywayyyy

Also, it would be SO satisfying if Aang were Jafar so Katara could yell: "I am not a prize to be won!"

Katara has been hunting for her mother’s killer for the last five years. She’s assumed the identity of the Painted Lady to do it. Now thanks to her mysterious masked partner, the Blue Spirit, Katara is about to avenge her mother’s death—until something goes terribly wrong.

This one is at least 98% your fault. I blame you for this because you encouraged it from an idea/longing to an actual fic. It has dialogue snippets, Blue! Your fault.

I'm not sure if it will actually become a fic, though, because most of the scenes/themes have been adapted to @lizanthium's Melting Pot AU she planted in my head a few days ago and has been watering. And I'm not sure about posting two fic with exactly the same tropes...

Oh, who am I kidding. I'm a cliche trope glutton. I will absolutely do two almost-exactly-the-same fic and probably feel no shame about it.

Anyway.

Katara gets rejected from going to the North to learn bending because she's a girl. So she signs up for Ba Sing Se University where the Foggy Swamp guys have a Waterbending class that isn't just healing. Only... university is expensive. Her good friend, Toph, has some underground contacts from the Earth Rumble, and they find somebody who is willing to fake marry Katara - with a fake certificate and everything - so they can get the huge discount (huge) offered to young married couples.

On the day she moves into her new digs, she meets her husband, Zuko.

Insert that Vine about them being roommates here.

There is, of course, PaintedSpirit shenanigans as well. And He's The Prince! reveals. It's... very generic lmao. No actual new things, just the same old rehashed. Maybe I'll make it a oneshot one day and focus more on the Melting Pot AU, which actually has some cool themes and stuff to work with, thanks to Liz's brain. Who knows, at this point.
