ROUND 2: PART 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda under cut
Paarthurnax (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)
● Turned against his family. Lives in seclusion to have better discipline over instincts that he feels ashamed of -- "there are many hungers it is better to deny than to feed." Almost exclusively speaks with his found family (the Greybeards), who are very protective of him.
Tamarin (Wings of Fire)
● Not only is she canonically in relationship with another female dragon (Anemone who may be submitted by someone else) she's also positive disability representation as a blind dragon. She has a very sweet and likeable personality and beautiful character design.
● Tamarin is canonically sapphic, due to the fact that she’s revealed to be dating another female dragon named Anemone within the book “A Guide to the Dragon World”.

I like Delphine as a character for her character flaws. She absolutely hates not being in control of a situation, which is why she's so dodgy when she first meets the Dragonborn, why she insists you be the one to infiltrate the Thalmor party (ELENWEN'S party) and why she refuses to work with you if you refuse to kill Parthurnax. She's scared of not being the one calling the shots, and it makes her interesting
idk i do think she absolutely wants to be in control, or at least to feel like she is, but i'm not sure any of those particular things are related, at least the first ones... of course she's cautious in the beginning, and of course she doesn't go to the party herself. because if she was recognised for who and/or what she was, she'd be dead on the spot. she's a damn blade. THE damn blade. and if skyrim is anything to go by, the thalmor have eyes almost everywhere
and she wants paarthurnax dead because he did some pretty questionable stuff, back in the day; and because the blades after all, are a dragon killing organisation. if you refuse that, you don't fit. at least in the way she's conceived her blades. and if you don't agree with her, that's fine, but really there's not much of a future in dragon-killing for someone who refuses to kill dragons i guess??
my conception of her, – and at this point i don't know how canon it is, – is partly as someone so lost in the old stories that she doesn't realise real life isn't like that. and so when the dragonborn refuses to bring what she sees as closure to this big story they're writing, – then the ground starts to slip
and i think maybe there she does want control over the dragonborn, in the same way that she wants control over the narrative. but paradoxically she wants someone she can be proud and confident to follow. she doesn't see paarthurnax in the same way we perhaps do: and to her, a person with so much power siding with such an extraordinary remnant of a bitter past, – that's got to seem alarming, and she's obviously going to question if she's hired/allied with the right person
and i don't think, in the circs, that wanting control is a character flaw. skyrims's gone absolutely to pot. she doesn't after all, want control over the land or its people. only over the situation. delphine is a logical person, – works through everything meticulously and several steps ahead. of course she wants to bring order to the chaos. and for a long while, it really seems as if she's the only one who can do that

Dev Journal: Day 1
I’ve tried a few times at putting myself out there with my system, boss, level, and world design content. Every time I did it for feedback, or validation, because I was looking for a reason to go out and do it full-time. Well, I’m now fresh out of college, a year down the drain trying to find any job that matches my qualifications, and have nothing better to do than to take the hobby I’ve poured countless hours into and run with it. So now this blog is finally just going out there for myself; clean slate.
For anyone who finds themselves becoming an interested and long-time fan of my work, I’ll document where I’m starting from here. Like I said, I’m fresh out of college. Twenty-two years old with a degree in Statistical Analysis, and a sizable amount of coursework in Operations, Actuarial Math, and Physics to boot. All that aside, I’ve been a huge game nerd for 15 years, been writing worlds and systems for a decade, and have been a perma-DM of both Dungeons and Dragons as well as, now, Pathfinder for a sum total of 5 years and counting. Needless to say, I’m a nerd who wasn’t encouraged to write - so I did all the hard homework first to make time for it.
This blog is gonna start out kinda boring, it’s really just me documenting what I’m doing. In part so I can look back at it, in part so I have it all somewhere that can be seen, and finally just so I can put myself out there. Being nerdy doesn’t really score you a huge network until well after school. Eventually I’m hoping to put some of my old D&D content and notes as a DM and worldbuilder out there. Maybe someone will learn something, maybe not.
Regardless, today was Day One. My first steps to really becoming a game designer. I’ve always had a knack for level and world design. I like making things that feel meaningful and have something to add. I’ve also been infatuated with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim since I was in middle school. So me, who has no credentials in softdev or compsci, well how am I going to make myself stand out to game studios? I’m starting with the Skyrim Creation Kit, and hopefully I can make something good enough to play with the big boys in some of the large community projects.
Today is Day One, Project One: The Bookwyrm’s Vault.
When I think of Skyrim, I think of three things. Vikings, dragons, and the Jedi Greybeards. But when I think of my ideal fantasy, I think of the wizarding type of sorcery, I think of arcane dragons - long-lived individuals who have honed magic over generations. And who’s to say that the dragons of Skyrim can’t be this way, Parthurnax certainly is.
So I devised the idea of the Bookwyrm’s Vault. I’m still undecided whether it is a Dwemer ruin built around the den of a long-departed dragon, or a ruin which a dragon took interest in. Regardless of which, the goal of this dungeon, unlike many of those in Skyrim, is not to add a crawl through enemies to feed the martial prowess of so many of the races of Tamriel. It’s to instead create something once beautiful and tranquil.
Initially I thought to conform to the Dwemer dungeon stereotypes of long hallways with many guardian automatons and littered steamworks and metal scraps. I’ve decided instead to be less industrious and more mystic and monastic with this ruin, to design a great library of magic and lore, one that rivals the College of Winterhold. Perhaps some Dwarven Spiders, remnants of a bookkeeping system as degraded as the parchment, remain to provide a small inconvenience to the Dragonborn. Even maybe a few runes of fire and lightning protecting more secretive experiments, or lingering from the attempts to keep something else in. This is my level, my addition, and I want it to reflect my interests in fantasy.
Tumblr media
Now, today was my first day working with the Creation Kit. Panning with the MMB is a new experience, and wow could it use an efficiency update, but it is a decade-plus old piece of software, so I guess it gets a pass. For my first time working with the software, and having no clue what assets Skyrim actually uses, I decided to go pretty simple.
We start, as all subterranean dwellings must, with a passageway down and in to the earth, allowing all the room needed to carve out the great recording hall that is front and center. This room will, once populated, hold a dozen or more desks in varying states of repair and organization, and will have been where historically research of older tomes and transcription was done.
To the east of the recording hall, I’ve made a larger laboratory for more practical experimentation, which will feature a handful of crafting stations, like an alchemy and enchanting table, as well as maybe a staff enchanter if I feel inclined to make this mod require the Dragonborn mod.
To the west of the recording hall I plan to have a short hallway that connects a number of bedchambers, or private cells. A place to rest or study quietly.
Finally, to the south a passage leads further down. The door at the end of this passage will be locked, and I feel the key would be best kept in a well-warded chest in one of the private cells, as it leads to the special collections room.
Based on what I’ve seen of the assets library so far, I’m worried about making the special collections room because I had been hoping to make it a two-tiered library, but that may not be possible with the assets that exist and I certainly don’t have the experience to produce new ones. I may be able to use some of the components normally reserved for exteriors to get by, though. Only time will tell.

thoughts on dragon priests? how they're chosen, what they Do, the relation between them and their dragons, etc? ever since finding out about zaan the scalecaller and thurvokun i've been mildly obsessed with the dragon priests but we're given so little...
So I think each preist has a dragon for example Zaan and Thurvokun. As for why the dragons choose someone is entirely up to the dragons, they don't need to provide a reason they're the mighty god dragons they could litterally pick a child and say that's my preist (which in my headcannons did with Zaan)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This does cause some annoyance for the preists they can't openly speak about as the job of a dragon priest is the same in the lore, they're rulers over parts of the area that dragons controled (we know Aludin's group controled into hammerfell and high rock to Solstime and Bleakrock so it wasn't just main land skyrim). So now because a 15 yo had vibes a dragon liked you have to teach her how to do taxes and speak Dovahzul (as I think Dovahzul was not the common language, it was like the church preserving latin) So there's not a set in stone process of how one becomes a dragon priest, but not evey dragon can have a preist either. It's usually just those high ranked enough to have a significant portion of land to rule over and there for needs a preist to govern that land because dragons don't care about repairing the plumbing system.
This did all start with Heimverlund in Atmora, where he met Alduin and the two teamed up to overthrow (Alduin could destroy everyone yes but if he had a mortal pawn he could rule easier because mortals spread the idea that dragon rule is good so less uprisings) and gave Heimverlund a mask making him Nahkriin who is the high priest. Morokei being old friends with Nahkriin even before they where preists became his second in comand with Odahviing being his dragon (not Parthurnax he got Krosis).

So I love ESO, I really enjoy the game. But something I've always thought about is how notorious and well known the Vestige must be. So average citizens are like, "Yay!!! I get to meet the hero of tamriel!!!"
Meanwhile over in the corner the camera pans to Razum-Dar and he's like, "Ah Raz's friend, that usually only shows up when the world is almost ending, is here. Perhaps this one should be more worried."
Then about two hours later it turns out he was right because Dragons are invading Elsweyr, or another deadric prince is attacking. And so Raz just resigned to having to send an update to Ayrenn about their mutual friend stopping everyone from dying again.
So my HC is sort of like, the Vestige's friends love seeing them again. However they're also constantly wary of everything when they do show up. Since it's not just a simple plot to kill the king with them, but also tied into deadra cults.

I feel like if my Oblivion oc were to meet Delphine from Skyrim, she would be utterly repulsed by how Delphine behaves and her self entitlement. Like the final breaking point for Ko’Krina would be Delphine’s order to kill Parthurnax.
Ko’Krina: “You.. you are kidding yes? This is a jest in poor taste?”
Delphine: “No. We have nothing to discuss until Parthurnax is dead.”
Ko’Krina: “…you are a disgrace. You dare think to call yourself a Blade!? I was a Blade long before you were born. I fought along side Martin Septim, the previous Dragonborn! We faced the hordes of Oblivion! We fought a war that determined the fate of all of Tamriel!”
Delphine: “How dare y-“
Ko’Krina: “SILENCE! The adult is talking! All you have done has hindered the progress of my great grand child, who happens to be the last Dragonborn. All you have done is send her on pointless political missions against the Thalmor because of your own little vendetta against them! Your little shindig with infiltrating Elenwen’s party was a total waste of time!”
Delphine: “N-No we got Esbern-“
Ko’Krina: “Oh ho ho if you interrupt me one more time you’ll see exactly how I’m still alive and you won’t like it…” *Ko’Krina summons the staff of Sheogorath to her hands.* “Esbern turned out to be only slightly more useful than you, Delphine, and all he did was show my grandchild the existence of Dragonrend! That was the extent of your usefulness. Parthurnax on the other hand.. he’s been alive for thousands of years and since his betrayal of Alduin he has done nothing but aid and help mortals. He taught the old mortals to shout and fight Alduin. He pointed my grandchild in the direction of the Elder Scroll, allowing her access to Dragonrend. Hell! He actually helped her fight Alduin when he ambushed them on the Throat Of The World! I don’t recall you helping my grandchild fight her way through Skuldafn to Alduin’s portal.”
Delphine: “…”
Ko’Krina: “You don’t deserve to call yourself a Blade. You don’t deserve to even look at my grandchild let alone give her orders! You never cared to help her, you wanted her to be a tool. You wanted to use my grandchild as a tool to get what you want because you’re too pathetic and weak to do it yourself. Now begone from my sight”

God I wish I was my Skyrim character. Literally just sprinting across Skyrim. maybe a wolf bites my ass, but I'm too fast for it to matter. Maybe talk to serana or nazir. Make parthurnax bend his neck around in a weird way. Eat a giant's toe just for the thrill. Spend a week just hanging out with a khajiit caravan. The good stuff, ya know?

I just remembered that person who was trying to say that Skyrim treats all the races equally and it’s like.
did you even play the game
because a very massive portion of the game is devoted to the fact that the races are not treated as equals
and past the obvious in your face shit there’s the bigotry and bias baked into the game itself. You can’t do anything to help the Khajiit and this is treated as just not something worth caring about. Parthurnax literally says he would never trust another dragon because they’re all born inherently evil. The Rieklings are treated like animals on their own fucking island. The Falmer are literally just living in their homes and you go in massacreing them like they aren’t even worthy of the respect you’d give an animal. As far as the game wants you to care, they’re “just animals” even though they’re very blatantly people.
If you think Skyrim treats all races like equals you didn’t play the game.

Next Gen Skyrim Fic where Sissel and Agni meet at the College of Winterhold as students.
Sissel is one of Lemkil's daughters in Rorikstead. He is physically and emotionally abusive toward his daughters, and Britte, Sissel's sister, reacts to the abuse by bullying her sister. She has unexpected magical powers, and can astral project while dreaming, allowing her to reach the Throat of the World and meet Parthurnax, but she is unaware of this. Jouane Manette, Rorik's old war friend and retired battlemage, is training her in magic as an escape for the abuse, probably to get her to become his apprentice and successor in Rorikstead whole "Mage sacrifices mothers after birth to keep soil fertile." Her power might even be caused by this, since she and her sisters are twins and their mother died in Childbirth, so what's to say she was sacrificed on the first child, Britte, and Sissel was literally born out of death?
Agni is an orphan girl in Morthal. She has been adopted by Falion, the local redguard mage, and she is also learning magic under him. He is distrustful of the college, with some classic evil mentor lines such as "don't go to Winterhold girl, only I can teach you properly," and is being incredibly shady about his research. Agni also seems to be a le to astral project while sleeping, since she can come out in her dreams and see Falion doing his experiments with the veil of Oblivion at night, and is scared by it.
Agni and Sissel both are discouraged to go to Winterhold to learn magic, yet you can tell they could both go there under the right circumstances, a desire to learn more, teenage rebellion, learning the truth about their Mentor but still considering magic to be a neutral thing that can be used for good...
We of course need 2 more students since a Winterhold class can't exactly be only 2 people and J'zargo the Destruction Lecturer and main teacher, so assuming at least one of them is a Dragonborn Adopted Orphan we need a 4th kid for this...

going to enjoy the problem of parthurnax w my skyrim ocs- if i can even figure out how we get to that point in this version of events. hjulde is heavily influenced by wulfharth cloud/kyne shenanigans so she has grandpa opinions on paarthurnax, but then cuan has opinions of "you failed to abate nordic war crimes for literal centuries and continue to teach a martial art that to this day terrorizes innocent people" that'll be fun to resolve

Miraak's line "Do you ever wonder if it hurts? To have one's soul ripped out like that?" has to be the most thought provoking thing Skyrim ever dealt out. Which isn't saying much, Skyrim isn't Shakespearean, but that line just kind of floored me. Does it hurt? Is it not fucked up that our Dragonborn is basically a walking soul gem for divine beings? Miraak's character really could've delved into what being Dragonborn *means*.
Yes, I totally agree! And that really ties into one of my biggest complaints in Skyrim: it’s a mile wide, but an inch deep.
Skyrim, and TES as a whole, adores putting on airs for dragons. We’re told time and time again that they’re extraordinarily intelligent, and to that effect, we’re taught snippets of their language, their writing, and even their society. Yet, with the exception of 3 dragons (Parthurnax, Odahviing, and Durnehviir) they’re little more than mindless antagonists or rabid animals that become nothing more than a chore to take down.
The motivations of these “intelligent creatures” are never explored depth. Take Alduin, for example. He attacks the world because he wants to usher in a new age, and devours the souls of the dead to that end. But why does he devour souls? Why does he want to usher in a new age? Why does every Dragon, (save for the 3!) allow themselves to be coerced into blindly following him? Why is it common for dragons to desire to dominate, to control? We’re never told, save for a paltry "it is in their nature.”
But why? If they’re so intelligent, why?
It would’ve been fascinating to understand these creatures; to learn how to appreciate them.
Imagine how incredible it would’ve been to learn why dragons despise humanity; after all, they are the first born children of a God. How dare we attack divine beings? What right do we have to strike out against what Akatosh desired to exist?
(no surprise, but I love love love the theme of “God is dead” in literature)
But of course, such an explanation never happens. Alduin and his dragon posee simply attack the world because that is who they are, and we’re told to simply nod and go with it.
That is, until Miraak gave us a small window into understanding.
His sole line provided the closest we ever got to depth with these incredible, living dragons. And more importantly (like you said), it added depth to you, the player, and your role.
We see Dragons, violent as they are, and are left to reflect upon ourselves. We, the player, dominate; we kill and destroy thousands of people and creatures for the smallest grasps at power. Everything we do is to better ourselves, as that is in the nature of the game, just as it is the nature of dragons.
Miraak tells to consider the consequences of our actions. To us, dragons and bandits and npcs have become a mindless stepping stone. But to the world we live in, we’re a force for absolute destruction and pain, whether that be for good or evil.
We have, in our own way, carved out a world for ourselves; altered events, changed lives and ended them just to suit our own whims. And who else does that? Who else has desired to shape the world? Who else has caused pain and death on an unimaginable scale?
Alduin. He is simply the villain, and you the hero, only by difference of who we consider is more justified.
Now, like you said, Skyrim isn’t Shakespearean. The theme, “is your desire for growth worth the pain and suffering of others?” is never really touched upon by the writers.
And I seriously doubt Skyrim's writers in particular intended for the line to be that "deep"
But it’s nice to think about. Miraak, with his one line, made us ponder all the narrative potential Skryim has: potential that was ultimately squandered.

Catra Redemption Theory
Every character can be redeemed, the only reason why everyone doesnt think Catra can be redeemed, Is because they saw her truly happy before her downfall. We /saw/ her decent into madness and we saw why she went crazy. And a lot of people feel like that Adora Leaving wasn't enough of a reason for Catra to fall as bad as she did. But you have to think, Catra was manipulated. She was abused and she was seen as second best. She's insecure. Her best friend promised they'd always be together and then left. Adora leaving was the last straw for her. Adora was what was keeping her sane.
Imagine if you went through traumatic experience after traumatic experience and there was only one thing left keeping you okay. Your lifeline. And if you lost it, you'd snap.
Adora was Catra's lifeline.
Back to the point, A lot of the villains who we encounter (like hordak) Are already evil when we meet them. We don't see their decent into madness. We don't get to see them happy or how they were before. They were always the villian. We don't get to love them like the fans love Catra. But when we met Catra, she was happy. And we think that since we saw her truly happy and we saw her fall a little more each time, we thought she couldn't fall any farther than she had from the last. Not until now. Catra believes she lost everything because she lost her best friend. She hadn't truly lost Adora until s3e6. Adora finally cut the ties between her and Catra. That glare that shera gave her, was adora saying, "I'm done playing your games. You wanted to be enemies, here your wish." She thinks she lost everything. But, Thats not the truth. The truth is, Catra has so much more left to lose; Scorpia(I think scorpia is getting close to cutting it off with catra now, too), her rank in the horde, even the horde itself.
Honestly I think she needs to lose all of that before she can truly be redeemed. She needs to lose the horde. She has to be forcefully removed from the locationf. She needs to be kicked out. She needs to hit rock freaking bottom. Once she loses everything it's gonna be like a snap. She's gonna realize that she was doing things all wrong. That she had gone about it the wrong way. That she should have gone with Adora the first time. And she's gonna try to fix it. And I know it's gonna be a long, long road.
Catra is gonna make mistakes. She grew up in the horde what do you expect? Manipulation and abuse is all she's ever known. If you dont get what you want, take it. It's all she has ever known. So yes she will try to manipulate people at first in her redemption. But people, or herself, will tell her that that's not right. It is gonna be a long road, filled with hurt and tears and stuff like that. Shes gonna make mistakes. Shes gonna have time where she takes a step forward and then three steps back. But eventually Catra will redeem herself. But that's how a redemption arc is supposed to work. They're gonna make mistakes. They have to basically rewire their brain into a different way of thinking. They have to force themselves to be good. My favorite quote:
"Which is better; to be born good or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?"
-Parthurnax Elder Scrolls IV Skyrim
You know the theory about catra's eyes? How when shes happy and teasing and not in any malicious way, her blue eye is profile. But when shes evil, unhinged, and just nasty, it's her yellow eye? And when she was corrupted, her Blue eye was completely gone. What if that's true? That that isnt necessarily the reason shes evil, but it shows two sides of her. And a lot of people are saying now that "CATRA HAS TO SACRIFICE HERSELF!!!!!" I'm not saying she has to sacrifice herself. No, thats shoddy writing and the creators are smarter than that. But what if at some point, to signify that she's truly changed, she sacrifices her yellow eye? Like, shes trying to protect adora or glimmer, or someone and she ends up losing the eye? Which will show that shes truly a good person now. That would signify that she has turned over a new leaf. And that she is truly a better version of herself. Just some food for thought.
She also holds a cat w/ an eye patch in glimmers dnd version of her. I'm just saying. If that isnt forshadowing, I dont know what is.
