I’ve known I was aromantic since middle school, and I also knew that I was not and will never be asexual.

I stopped posting much about it after everything Aromantic began being linked with Asexuality around 2016; god forbid someone is physically attracted to someone but doesn’t want to be romantically involved; or is genuinely repulsed by it.

So I guess it’s nice to see the existence of the aroallo label after coming back to the Aro space.

ive said before i love love love love love all the short stories and crowdsourced worlds here on tumblr. arepo. stabby the roomba. brad wayne. all the popular short stories like the woman with the cat with the key you need to marry her. all of these were created by one person but then spiraled out into so much more. it's folklore, some funny, some heart-wrenching. we're all just telling stories around a campfire.

Last night, this character was a blank slate for me. I had a name, and a place of origin, but otherwise, a white piece of paper.

Now, now she's real. She has a past, a choice she made, a decision that was hers, a family both by blood and by choice. I know her hopes, and fears, and dreams. I know what she knew and what she learned, I know her skills, why she has them, why she looks forward, why she looks back, and why she passes on what she knows. I know her reason for being, and her reason for becoming. I know everyone she loves, and I know why.

I love being a writer.

Being an artist is actually so fucking cool.

There's a girl in my class who let me take pictures of her because in my mind a podcast character looks like her. And looking at the pictures and drawing her I am constantly thrown off by how beautiful she is - and that's not specific to conventionally pretty people.

I just. Love how I can stare at someone, or at a picture, or a moment, and find the details that makes it what it is - I am trying very hard to not send this friend a hundred messages, to say that her hands are actually so soft and romantic and that the casual way she holds herself is relaxing to look at and that her eyes are wild, like she doesn't know how much they change when she talks.

And sure, some people who aren't artists can pay this much attention to details, but when you want to do art, the act will force you to watch, your practice will make you find the precious details, and I think that's a vital endeavor, actually.

So I just recalled how I get weird looks sometimes when I describe people. Like sometimes people will be down about their looks and instead of doing the "oh no, you're beautiful thing" I'll instead stop, think for a minute, and then tell them the exact traits that I think make them a beautiful person or unique.

Like I remember doing this to one of my girl friends, I remember pointing out how her eyes were round and doe shaped and that her skin was an incredibly pretty shade of brown and just idk, lots of little things. But instead of getting a "thank you!" look or even comment I got like an awkward thank you and a glance away. And like this has happened a lot before.

And I just...do other people not objectively look for the beauty in other humans? Not because you're interested in them, romantically, sexually, whatever, but just because humans are interesting and beautiful in their own right. Because like if you only look at people to notice their beauty to gain something from them, whether that's a date, a kiss, anything, then you're missing out on so much in life itself, and idk that's just kind of sad.

So I may be a bit much, I may be intense, but I'd prefer telling someone the exact traits that make them a beautiful person without expecting anything out of it than to just tell someone they're pretty without meaning it or knowing what makes them pretty.
