Winged Artemis in art 🌙
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Of all the Hellenic deities Artemis in many respects contains the most primitive features: her statues are often ruder and more aniconic than those of any other divinity and her various cults may be divided into two main classes, the one containing those cults in which the goddess shows her later and more truly Hellenic aspects and is the chaste huntress, the sister and female counter-part of Apollo, and the other including endless minor cults in which she has the more primitive character of a goddess of nature without any apparent relationship to Apollo in any way whatsover.” - Thompson, M. S. “The Asiatic or Winged Artemis.” The Journal of Hellenic Studies, vol. 29, 1909, pp. 286–307.

Potnia Theron or "Mistress of Animals"
Potnia theron or "Mistress of Animals" is the figure found more commonly in Minoan and Mycnenaean arts than any other Potnias. She was also known as "Lady of Wild Things", "Mistress of Wild Beasts", and several other similar titles.

The Circus Animals’ Desertion
I. I sought a theme and sought for it in vain, I sought it daily for six weeks or so. Maybe at last, being but a broken man, I must be satisfied with my heart, although Winter and summer till old age began My circus animals were all on show, Those stilted boys, that burnished chariot, Lion and woman and the Lord knows what. II What can I but enumerate old themes, First that sea-rider Oisin led by the nose Through three enchanted islands, allegorical dreams, Vain gaiety, vain battle, vain repose, Themes of the embittered heart, or so it seems, That might adorn old songs or courtly shows; But what cared I that set him on to ride, I, starved for the bosom of his faery bride. And then a counter-truth filled out its play, ‘The Countess Cathleen’ was the name I gave it; She, pity-crazed, had given her soul away, But masterful Heaven had intervened to save it. I thought my dear must her own soul destroy So did fanaticism and hate enslave it, And this brought forth a dream and soon enough This dream itself had all my thought and love. And when the Fool and Blind Man stole the bread Cuchulain fought the ungovernable sea; Heart-mysteries there, and yet when all is said It was the dream itself enchanted me: Character isolated by a deed To engross the present and dominate memory. Players and painted stage took all my love, And not those things that they were emblems of. III Those masterful images because complete Grew in pure mind, but out of what began? A mound of refuse or the sweepings of a street, Old kettles, old bottles, and a broken can, Old iron, old bones, old rags, that raving slut Who keeps the till. Now that my ladder’s gone, I must lie down where all the ladders start In the foul rag and bone shop of the heart. The Circus Animals’ Desertion - Yeats

💜 I honor my Sacred Lady in all her limitless forms and manifestations, including her Ephesian incarnation and the Nymphai
🕊 I am also devoted to Mother Mary Theotokos as a form of hero worship, ancestor veneration, and as an extension of Artemis Ephesia (Artemis of Ephesus) specifically in her 'Queen of Heaven' aspect
☀️ I honor the exalted Apollo(n) Musagetes as my Mother's divine counterpart. For this reason, he is as my Father to me, and I view the Mousai as extensions of him

Praise to divine Mistress Artemis, architect of my soul and eternal keeper of my heart.
She of the wolves and of the deer. She of the hunt and of the fire. Swift running archer who haunts the forest wilds and roams in the night. The cresent moon, her silver bow. She who dwells at the mountain peak. She of the Earth and the Heavens.
Bestower of death with her showering arrows. Strong-voiced worker from afar who whispers, “Kneel, or be knelt.” Beautiful empress who bears sword and reins on her golden throne. She of the lake, the marsh, and the harbor. Far-shooter. Lightbringer. Dawn-breaker.
Divine virgin, pure and revered, who soothes. Celestial midwife who nurses the young and patron of childbirth. She of the hymns and pastures. Singer of divine songs and leader of the dance. Sweet-garlanded lady of clamors. She of the white bird, the toad, and the berry seed. Bright goddess.
Beloved and loving high priestess of the bear's jaw, whose hymns only beasts can sing. Willow-bound and royal of cedar, walnut, and laurel. Immortal torch-bearer. Ancestral guardian who stands before the door.
Goddess queen of beasts and nymphs. Maiden. Death. Animal. Feral child. Holy mother. Praise be to Lady Diana, deliverer and savior.

Potnia Theron
Publicity level: ⬤⬤⬤⬤⬤
Reputation: Potnia Theron is a state-of-the-art scientific research institute specializing in genetic engineering. They are contracted by companies around the world to assist in the development of crops and livestock, as well as for developing hardy plants for what survives of the aerospace industry.
Sixty years prior, the institute unveiled a program in which they'd genetically modify people's embryos into carrying traits from other vertebrate animals. In layman's terms: they gave aspiring parents the chance to have genetically-engineered catgirl daughters. In exchange, these genetically-engineered children are guaranteed a future career in Potnia Theron or in its associate organizations.
While it's praised for its contributions to the study of and application of genetics, it also has a lot of detractors who consider it an example of why wealthy eccentrics shouldn't have access to almighty technology. Even so, their actual reputation is quite squeaky-clean… █████ ██'█ ███████ ████ ████ ████ ██ ███████ ██ █████████ ████████ ███████?
Potential aesthetic: You know that meme about how corporate art styles try to be quirky but end up looking hollow, soulless and manufactured? Imagine that but it's actually good-looking.

She is nature embodied; Potnia Theron, Mistress of Animals. She is the birth of lambs in spring, she is the food that sustains us when the earth dies again each year, she watches and shelters over animals within and without. She is nature in her cruelty. She is nature in its life. She is the butcher. She is the deer being hunted, the hunter who chases it, and the arrow who hits its mark. She is the forest fire, the fire, and the person watching it. She is the cruel embrace the wild gives; she is its endless addicting impossibility. All we want is to return to nature, and all we fear is the wild unknown, from the safety of our beds and inside our walls. She is the creature watching us, and the dog keeping us safe. She is the mountains, the jagged peaks, and the deep abyss gaping before us.

hey, im deeply considering signing an oath to be an hunter of Artemis and i wanted to know if there were any rules that were important, aside from things such as rejecting male (romantic) attention and attraction and swearing off your virginity
take your time btw no pressure to answer:DD
Hey, Jordan! Thanks for the ask!
Personally, I am not an expert on Artemis' hunter oaths. I don't know much of anything about them besides that men could also become one of her hunters. I think you may have more luck asking @artemis-potnia-theron who is very knowledgeable about Artemis in general (not sure if they can give you the exact advice you're looking for, but I think they'd be a lot more helpful than me).
In general, when it comes to oaths, my advice will ALWAYS be to directly speak with the deity you're wishing to oath. Discuss the terms and conditions, the limits and benefits, the hard rules and the flexible ones, and especially be sure to touch on consequences of breaking your oath. Does the oath just break and that's it? Definitely do not make an oath without fully understanding what you're committing yourself to. If you don't know all the details, find them out. Oaths can be very serious commitments, so it's important to speak with the deity directly and see what their expectations are for you. None of this is to scare or discourage you; I just feel it's important to emphasize these things.
I hope you're able to find the answer to your question, and I'm sorry I couldn't provide it for you. May Artemis light your path, if you wish her to. Whether or not you become a hunter of hers, I wish you success on your journey. Take care, and have a good day/night. 🧡

Artemis Agrotera, Potnia Theron: "Artemis of the Wildland, Mistress of Animals."
www.shopdixi.com
Artemis, lover of woods and the wild chase over the mountains. Artemis, Virgin Huntress, beloved of wild animals and restrained by no man, mortal or God. Artemis, Moon Goddess, bearer of light, bringer of the Crescent Moon. Artemis, leader of Nymphs and protector of young Maidens.
Bow down to our Mistress.
Inspired by the sacred Deity of Wild Things, meet our devotion to Artemis. All in beautiful antiqued sterling silver detail, the feminine face of our Goddess is crowned in the crescent moon, as delicate thorns wrap around her face. This is the statement gothic necklace for all worshippers at the Altar of the Huntress.
