A Republican lawmaker in Texas has introduced a bill that would allow the death penalty for women who have abortions.
“Today, I filed HB 3326 to Abolish Abortion in Texas,” Texas State Rep. Bryan Slaton (R) said on Twitter.
“The bill will end the discriminatory practice of terminating the life of innocent children, and will guarantee the equal protection of the laws to all Texans, no matter how small,” he said.
Tumblr media
Under HB 3326, a person who has an abortion or performs an abortion could be charged with assault or homicide, which is punishable by death, the Texas Tribune reported.
Slaton’s legislation also says that certain parties may have to testify in cases of death or “bodily injury to an unborn child,” and offers immunity to those that do.
The legislation also directs the state’s attorney general to “direct a state agency to enforce those laws, regardless of any contrary federal statute, regulation, treaty, order, or court decision,” the newspaper reported.
The bill would also ban abortions at fertilization, whereas most abortions in Texas are prohibited after 20 weeks.
Slaton’s proposal is not the first time a Texas lawmaker has proposed the death penalty for abortion. Texas state Rep. Tony Tinderholt (R) introduced a similar measure in 2019 classifying abortion as a homicide.
The legislation comes as GOP states seek to aggressively restrict or ban abortions in an effort to get the Supreme Court to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.
Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) signed a bill into law on Tuesday banning abortions unless it is to save th e life of the mother.

y'all need to get a grip. you blab all day about how much you hate bigots and hateful people and how evil it is to dehumanize anyone and then you turn around and say "kys" and "i think [x] should all just kill themselves" and other disgusting, violent and childish trash
so many people on here are just full of hatred and vitriol and turn into frenzied sharks anytime the target 'deserves it' and they think they can get away with it and not be called bad people. then they whine about how sad it is that we can't all just get along and if only all the evil people in the world would stop doing evil things wouldn't that be nicer
you're just as vicious, hypocritical and fanatically puritanical as the caricature you have made in your minds of the people you think you have nothing in common with. if you've ever told someone, ANYONE to kill themselves you're not advocates of justice, you're not artisans of peace, and you certainly don't have any moral high ground that would allow you to pass judgment on others

one time I was walking in the park with vege guy (he's vegetarian because he's buddhist) and a lady who was handing out Christian pamphlets went "Jesus loves you!!" to us except I couldn't parse it because I'd never been missionaried at in Chinese before and when we were out of earshot he immediately turned towards me and went "Would it have been bad if I responded with "Buddha loves you too". Or is that like too petty" and well. I for one would have supported him

Hi, I voted "to save the mother's life" in the poll, but I'm not sure if a procedure under such circumstances (Like, i guess an ectopic pregnancy) are really considered abortion. I know that a lot of places where abortion is criminalised do not consider it as such for an ectopic pregnancy. Do you care to share thoughts/sources on this?
Hope you're having a great weekend
Hello!
So ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage treatment are not considered elective abortions because the intention is not the same. Especially with ectopic pregnancy since the treatment is either medication (methotrexate, which is rarely ever used for elective abortions), laparoscopic surgery, or abdominal surgery. Most abortion ban laws make it clear that ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage treatments are not considered abortions, so there's no reason a doctor shouldn't treat a woman suffering a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy, and the treatments for these conditions have not changed with abortion bans.
I have heard two different arguments, some doctors say abortion is medically necessary, while other doctors don't. For the side that argues that abortion is medically necessary I found HealthFeedback talk about it here:
Daniel Grossman, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at University of California, San Francisco, told Health Feedback that “If the pregnant woman develops a life-threatening condition at a gestational age when the fetus is likely to survive, it is true that in most cases, obstetricians would proceed with expedited delivery”.
“But,” he cautioned, “if the pregnant woman develops a serious condition at 20 weeks, such as ruptured membranes with signs of infection or heavy bleeding from a placenta previa, it is critical to terminate the pregnancy quickly to save her life. There is no chance that the fetus can survive, and an abortion would be the fastest and safest way to terminate the pregnancy”. To date, the most premature baby to survive was born in 2020, at about 21 weeks of gestation.
Luckily for us, the Lozier Institute has listed every single medical emergency a pregnant woman may face and the treatment guidance described by the ACOG, and also the abortion ban laws in every US state:
To assist healthcare providers and dispel the myths being spread by those more concerned with promoting abortion than women’s health, this document discusses miscarriage management, treatment for ectopic pregnancy, and medical conditions that could qualify as life-threatening, permitting abortion under pro-life laws. Specifically, we cite guidance from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), a prominent professional organization that has provided comprehensive guidance for management of obstetric and gynecologic conditions. Further, the exact text of the laws, definitions, and exceptions are included below to further demonstrate that the laws in question do not inhibit appropriate and standard medical care.
The reason pro-lifers don't consider abortion medically necessary is because we believe doctors should always try to save both mother and baby, but if they can't do both then the mother should be the priority. There have been instances where the doctors could not save the mother, but could save the unborn child. I would recommend looking through the Lozier Institute article linked above since it contains so much information on the treatment for life-threatening situations for pregnant women.
If you would like more information, Why Prolife also discusses the "medically necessary" question here. It may be a pro-life source, but they include sources for everything.
Former abortionist, Dr. Anthony Levatino, explains why abortion is never medically necessary:
youtube
There's a lot to look at with both sides of the argument. Some doctors agree that it's medically necessary, while other doctors disagree. I think if the procedure's purpose is to save the life of the mother, but her unborn child is unintentionally killed as a result of that procedure, then it's not abortion.
I hope this answers your question.

This is why I’m not interested in extending “empathy” and “understanding” to pro-choicers. They’re not brainwashed by the Patriarchy or manipulated into hating their own children or whatever; they know exactly what they stand for and just don’t care. Some of them even think it’s something to celebrate and be proud of. Hugs and cuddles and infantilizing aren’t going to convince them that killing babies is wrong.

id like it to be known that i wholeheartedly support abortion. i support abortion for the person whose pregnancy has become too dangerous to come to term. i support abortion for the victim of rape. i support abortion for those who don't have the financial means to have a child. i support abortion for those underage. i support abortion for someone middle-aged with a stable family and finances and loving partner who quite simply does not want a child. i support abortion for people who sleep around. i support abortion for someone who thought they wanted a child but changed their mind. i support abortion in all its infinitely different situations. if it comes to me picking between a bunch of cells that look like fish eggs and an actual living breathing person with a name and future then babe we're having caviar
#fun fact! 9/10 abortions happen before 12 weeks#and over half happen in the first 8 weeks#at 12 weeks your fetus (bc it's not even a baby yet if u want to be technical) is the size of a lime. a fucking lime#i wasnt going to make a post about this bc i dont like bringing politics onto tumblr#bc after how jaded i got with covid and now Everythign Else i wanted a site that could be safe from real world shit#and also it's very tiring that an American Issue suddenly becomes Everyone's Issue and it can be quite frustrating#when that energy isn't met for literally any other country. and i didnt want to contribute to the en masse posting about roe v wade atm#for those two reasons (at least on tumblr. im not actually spiteful about this and obviously really care about the topic. it's just tiring)#but it's come to my attention that somehow i have pro-lifers in these parts#and i want to make it very fucking clear that i dont want them here#me and this blog are completely wholeheartedly pro-choice in any form it may show itself as#because i have enough critical thinking skills to know two basic facts#1) that people have ALWAYS had abortions. the only thing that's changed is the safety in which they're carried out#you will NEVER get rid of them you will only ever endanger the people and women you're trying so hard to 'protect'#and 2) i have never heard of a single person that was happy to get an abortion. not one. it's not a fun experience#it's incredibly hard and traumatic but oftentimes necessary for whatever personal reason specific to that person#stop fucking making laws about other people's bodies#it really shouldn't be difficult

okay this is the only abortion post im gonna make cause Current Events are deeply upsetting, but it bugs the crap out of me every time the topic comes up.
listen to me. discussions of what a fetus is and when something can be called “alive” are an obfuscation. they do not matter.
because the people you’re arguing with, despite calling themselves pro-life, aren’t TALKING about the scientific definition of “life.” they’re talking about a religious belief of when something gains a soul. and according to christianity, the soul is Known by God before conception, and then metaphysically becomes a Person at conception. according to this belief, it does not matter when life begins, because the soul was pre-determined when two people decided to have sex.
pro-lifers arent idiots willfully ignoring Science, they are fundamentally arguing about a different topic, and are frustrated that you keep changing the subject. you can’t disprove a philosophical belief, you need to assume their theological point is sound before addressing it. because who CARES if a fetus has a soul, the fact of the matter is that we don’t legally compel people to suffer to save other people, that’s barbaric. organ donation is opt-in. blood donation is opt-in. even if you’re the only match and you know the patient will die without it. biology and shit doesnt even come into it the POINT is that bodily autonomy is already treated as a human right in all other fields. (you could also argue of course that religion is not a basis for law, but....i guarantee zero pro-lifers will give a shit about you saying that.)

Christian anti-abortion arguments always make God look like a dick. So you’re saying a soul has one chance at life, one chance to live on earth, and then it’s off to Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory? And God can see everything, and knows everything that can and will happen? But he’s full of love, right?
So then why the fuck does he put a soul in a ‘baby’ that he knows will die before it’s born?! That’s a horrible thing to do, denying a soul a chance at the only possible life it would ever get under his own rules. Don’t tell me the ‘the baby will be happy in heaven’ thing, that’s not the point. The point is a loving God wouldn’t intentionally put a soul - a helpless, innocent soul, one that cannot control its own fate - into a situation where it would be killed.
Look, Christians and/or pro-lifers. Either you worship a loving god, or you don’t. You don’t get to pick and choose what he does to benefit you or the people you’re voting for. Either god loves everyone, including souls that he controls the destination of, or...
[also, don’t you dare clown on this post or come to me with your arguments. you should spend that time doing some self-reflection on why you believe this crap]
