if Max was genuinely abused he wouldn't be where he is because talent crumbles under scrutiny and abuse.
most fans don't understand what it takes to be an F1 world champion and they are too soft for this sport and they blow things out of proportion just so they can victimize and baby the drivers.
Lewis's dad did similar things to Lewis, for example pushing him to race in extreme conditions, but for some reason it only jos that is abusive.
I don’t think it’s true that talent crumbles under scrutiny. I just think you have to have a certain kind of personality/psyche to make the most of those circumstances. Michael Jackson was genuinely abused, his talent survived it.
But I definitely agree that almost no one understands what it takes to get to the pinnacle of a sport, and what it takes to support a child in order for them to achieve that. And also, not every kid thrives being coddled, some actually thrive under pressure. It’s all about knowing that child inside out and understanding what drives them. Because as kids, they won’t always be thinking long term, they won’t be motivated every day or even every month, it’s often up to the parent to see the bigger picture and want it more than the kid on the day the kid would rather be out with their friends.
I think Jos gets the stick because he’s too honest about it. Neither Jos nor Max have ever tried to put a spin on what went on, because they’re not ashamed of it. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen any genuine criticism of the way Jos was with Max from anyone who has ever achieved that level of success, or been around karting parents. I think it’s not as uncommon or poorly thought of as fans like to believe.
Also I think the fact that Jos has so many personal controversies kind of lends to the narrative that there was something more sinister about his tough love. Which really isn’t substantiated.
And lastly, I think the thing with Jos is that most parents, even the tough love ones, are relegated to the sidelines of their kids’ sporting careers. Very rarely do you see a parent with enough talent and experience in their child’s sport to be able to provide real coaching, and if they have it they choose for their kids to be coached by other people a lot of the time. So Jos seems like he was so much more pushy and hands on because he was the dad and the trainer. Max didn’t have a whole of adults who were professionals and had professional distance and standards to uphold, like tennis players often do (unless you’re the Williams sisters but pretty sure their dad got stick for his harsh training as well), for example.
Basically I think Jos gets some undeserved stick. And some of it is probably deserved from a purely objective angle but it will never sit right with me to trash a parent for how they treat their child when their adult child still maintains a good relationship with them. Where people get off with that I will never know.

Listen I've connected some dots
-lando saying thank you in that workout video
-lando saying one advice he would give to his younger self being work harder
-landos competency kink
-oscar being broader than lando in such a delicious way, lando being smaller (his thighs in the karting video.......) and so much more bendy, match made in heaven
-jon helping lando so much
Oscar is Landos personal trainer, which spirals into a 24/7 bdsm dynamic. Oscar being there at all times to help Lando not have to make choices. In the start he's trying so hard to stay professional, this is his big chance he doesn't wanna screw it, but Lando is just so malleable. Lando keeps getting hard when they work out, especially on the days Oscar pushes him past the limit. Keeps asking Oscar for advice on the smallest things, wants him to plan everything, gets all wide eyed when Oscar gets him to eat something he doesn't really like. When they start sleeping together it's kinda meh, doesn't seem to leave Lando satisfied, Oscar is stressed, he's risking everything for this and can't even seem to get the fucking right. Lando starts acting out. Fucks himself with a tok big dildo right before the race and makes life difficult for everyone. Then orgasm denial enters the picture. In the end Oscar has to give in, embraces the dynamic and the fact that it works for them, thrives on making Lando happy, even if it goes against everything he thought a relationship can and should be.
Sorry for the rant but I needed to get this out and your asks feels like the confession boot to come to.
oh my godddd anon u have the VISION!! many blessings to you for this confession!!
HEAVILY into the orgasm denial side of this too, esp as lando strikes me as the kind of person who rapidly begins to lose his mind if he can’t come so it would be such an intense method of control oughhhh~
thank u delicious anon for this headcanon and for the excuse to think about oscar’s shoulders some more

S.N.A.F.U CH65-‘Reaching’
Eadaoin gave Michael’s hand a squeeze and flashed the personal trainer a smile as he got to his feet and adjusted his suit jacket.  He returned the smile and confidently strode to the front of the court where he was sworn in by the court bailiff.
“Thanks for taking the time to be here today Michael,” Darren began “could you please begin by telling the court how you came to know Mr Ricciardo?”
“We met on the first day of year seven at Newman College in Perth,” Michael replied a barely detectable tremor in his voice “we were assigned to the same homeroom and became fast friends from the beginning.”
“And could you please describe the nature of your relationship now?”
“Personal or professional?”
“Both if you wouldn’t mind.”
“Well personally we’re each other’s best mate right from our school days we’ve studied together, travelled together, did a bit of karting together-though I only ever did it for fun Danny was all abut being a professional driver right from when I first met him and even when he left school and went to Europe to race and I remained home in Perth to go to uni we kept in touch, he would travel home to visit when he could and I would travel to Europe when he was unable to because of racing.  Professionally I’m his personal trainer and performance coach and have been since the beginning of two thousand eighteen.”
“And what does your job entail?”
“Primarily I manage his fitness and nutrition regime,” Michael replied “based on the length of the F1 season and location of the races I devise an exercise regime and associated nutrition program that maximizes his physical and mental ability to be a formula one driver.”
“So would you say you know Mr Ricciardo well?”
“Yeah I like to think I do.” Michael replied “and I’m sure he would say the same about me.”
“Would you describe him as an emotional person?”
“Yes and no,” Michael replied “it depends on the situation, for as long as I’ve known Danny he’s worn his heart on his sleeve he’s a private person and only lets a select few into his circle but he trusts those in it implicitly. It’s only the people in that circle that knows the real Daniel Ricciardo.  Its only when that trust is broken that he’ll become upset.”
“Can you think of any examples in the entire time you’ve known Danny that he’s become upset under the circumstances you described?”
“Only twice,” Michael replied “back in two thousand sixteen when his pit crew messed up his pit stop at the Monaco GP.  A lot of people thought he would win the race that year and to this day are convinced that’s what cost him the win.  Afterwards he was absolutely filthy and refused to talk to anyone including me for half an hour after the race.  And even though I wasn’t his trainer at the time I convinced him to take his rage out in a sparring session and despite his physical exhaustion we boxed hard for twenty minutes.  And the second time was after the 2020 Abu Dhabi GP after party when he caught Jemma in the company of Cyril.  I’ve never seen anyone so absolutely devastated about what happened.  While Max escorted him back to the hotel I went through the Renault garage and his trailer and driver’s room gathering up all his possessions so he wouldn’t have to return to the track and do it himself.”
“And in all the time you’ve known Danny have you ever known him to act aggressively when drunk?”
“Absolutely one hundred percent no,” Michael replied emphatically “not even in the ball park of aggressive or violent like he’s been accused of.  Danny’s a happy drunk, he’s more likely to lay down on a couch and fall asleep or get up and dance badly when drunk.  I’ve known him the longest out of everyone in his circle of friends and I’ve never known him to be violent or aggressive period drunk or sober.  The last time I saw him drunk was at Eadaoin’s birthday party in Austin and all he did then was watch her sing or sit in the corner kissing her.”
Furtively Eadaoin looked over at Jem and noted with a certain amount of glee that the other woman’s face had darkened with fury.  She smiled and gave Max’s hand a squeeze jerking her head in the other woman’s direction.
“She doesn’t like that Michael saw me and Danny kissing in Austin,” she whispered.
“You should snog him before things finish today,” the young Dutchman said with a chuckle “one of those pornographic ones you always do.”
Eadaoin rolled her eyes and elbowed her friend.
“You’re terrible Max!”
“So would it be accurate to say you disagree with every allegation Miss Boskovich has made?”
“Yes absolutely one hundred percent.  I think anyone that’s spent any meaningful time with him would think the same too.”
“Very well, thankyou for your candor Michael, m’lady I have finished questioning the witness.”
“Very well, Mr Albrecht do you have any questions?”
“I do m’lady,” Albrecht said getting to his feet “Mr Italiano how long has your relationship with Mr Ricciardo been sexual?”
Darren hadn’t even resumed his seat before he whipped around and bellowed.
“OBJECTION!  That question is neither relevant or any of my learned friend’s business!” he exclaimed as a mixture of what the fuck’s and gasps of incredulity rose from the Daniel’s friends and colleagues.
“I agree,” Justice Wickstead said sternly tapping the gavel on the bench on front of her “objection sustained Mr Albrecht you will retract that question and refrain from asking more of a similar nature understood?”
“Of course m’lady.” Albrecht replied a barely discernable smirk forming on his lips.
“Why d'you want to know if the relationship Danny and I have is sexual?” Michael asked “I’ve already stated the nature of our relationship both professional and personal.  That should be sufficient information for you.”
“I only ask Mr Italiano because if you and Mr Ricciardo enjoyed a more personal relationship you could be seen as biased in your evaluation of his nature,” Albrecht replied “as in you’d be more likely to be ignore any let’s say negative traits he has than someone not involved with him in such a manner.”
“What the hell have you been telling him?” Michael asked Jem incredulously leaning sideways to address Jem directly “What the actual hell have you been telling him?  Jesus for the record Mr Albrecht never once in the twenty one years I have known Danny has our relationship ever been sexual; it hasn’t ever been in the ball park of sexual.  And not that it’s any of your or your client’s business but I am very heterosexual and so is Danny.  Anyone who says otherwise is either jealous or deluded....likely both.”
“Are you calling me deluded?” Jem shrilled leaping to her feet “you fuck-”
The clamor was interrupted Justice Wickstead slamming her gavel down on her bench.
“SILENCE!” she bellowed “Miss Boskovich SIT DOWN!  It is NOT your turn to speak and mind your language!  Mr Albrecht it’s high time you reminded your client the procedure when it comes to court room etiquette.  Her behaviour has been undesirable to say the least”
“Yes m’lady,” Albrecht replied turning and giving Jemma a death glare “sit down.” He added to her with a hiss.
“Can we move on?” Michael asked in clipped tones “unlike some I’m actually here to be truthful about the plaintiff and if my presence is no longer required on the stand I’d like to return to the gallery to give one of his other friends or colleagues the opportunity to tell their story.”
“I’ve finished questioning the witness for now m’lady,” Albrecht said addressing Justice Wickstead directly in a sickeningly sweet tone that made Eadaoin inwardly gag.
“Alright then, Mr Cook do you have anyone else you’d like to call to the stand?”
“Yes m’lady now I’d like to call Mr Max Emilian Verstappen to the stand.”
Max gave Eadaoin’s hand one more squeeze before leaning down to whisper in her ear.
“Don’t worry I’ve got this,” he murmured.
“Thanks Max.”
Michael returned to the gallery patting Max on the shoulder as they passed each other.  He then took his spot beside Eadaoin and grasped her hand again.
“Thank you for that,” she murmured “it meant a lot to hear you stand up for Danny like that.”
“No worries luv.”
Max made his way to the stand and was sworn in before sitting down.
“Thanks for coming in today Max,” Darren began “for the benefit of the court would you please tell us when you first met Mr Ricciardo?.”
“At the end of the twenty fifteen season,” Max replied “after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix I was doing some post season testing for what was then Toro Rosso and was introduced to him in the Red Bull garage by Christian.  At the time there was no plans for me to drive for Red Bull main but with Toro Rosso being a feeder team for Red Bull Christian thought it best I meet everyone at Red Bull in the event I ended up in the main team.”
“And how would you describe the relationship between you two?”
“Back then it was just work associates, we drove for different teams, had different engineers and different pit crews so we rarely associated outside activities directly related to our jobs.  I didn’t have my road car license and I was too young to drink so I rarely went out with the older drivers socially until the end of the twenty sixteen season by which time I had turned eighteen and had transferred into the Red Bull main team.  From there we enjoyed a friendly relationship despite the gap in our ages.  We’ve become really good mates especially since he left Red Bull; we socialize more now than we did when we drove for the same team.  We often work out together when we’re both in Monaco, go out for meals, and play squash or tennis etcetera.  Our girlfriends have become good friends and I’m proud to say now Daniel is one of my best friends too.”
“Lovely to hear, lovely to hear, now if you wouldn’t mind giving your assessment of Daniel’s character as both a drunk and sober person?”
“Sure, when he’s drunk he’s the life of the party, he’ll get up and sing badly....”
The public gallery laughed heartily, the only people remaining stony faced was Jem and Albrecht.
“He’ll dance, sing talk loudly and most of all when he’s drunk he’ll think he can solve all the world’s problems, he turns into a philosopher,” Max said with a grin “he tells the greatest stories and is the best party host.”
“And sober?”
“As a sober person he’s the guy everyone should and would want as a friend, he cares for those less fortunate than him donates to several social justice causes and once I saw him stop traffic so a duck and her ducklings could cross the road safely.  He loves and provides for his family and friends like no other person I’ve seen and I’ve literally never seen a man as in love with their woman as he is with Eadaoin. The minute she came into his life he was a goner.  Everyone at the track teased him about being a love struck idiot.  Essentially he’s a kind, decent and caring person the absolute opposite of what the defendant is accusing him of.”
“Thank you for that assessment,” Darren said “now in his statement to the court Mr Italiano referenced the evening of December thirteenth twenty twenty the evening upon which Daniel found Miss Boskovich in the company of Mr Abiteboul, you were present at the same function that night would you be so kind as to give your version of events?”
“Where do you want me to start?”
“From the beginning if you would, recall to the best of your ability.”
“Well after the final race of the season and post season testing all the teams and their staff had a pitlane party at the Yas Marina circuit,” Max began “there was a DJ plenty of alcohol and a good vibe going.  All the drivers had their friends, family or significant other in town and we all gathered at the track for a good night of partying it had been a long and hard season and we were all relived that it was over and we could relax.  The party had been going for three or four hours and we were all having a great time.  I was in front of the Mercedes garage talking to Valtteri when I heard a shrill scream from a woman and a bellowing yell from a man further down the pitlane, I took off at a run and followed the sound that was coming from the Renault garage and ran inside to see the defendant with her underwear around her ankles, Cyril in a corner with his jeans around his ankles, blood pouring out of his nose and Danny in front of him with a tyre iron in his hand looking like he was about to hit him with it.  He would have if Valtteri, Lewis, Toto, Christian and I hadn’t pulled him away. It took all our combined strength to pull Danny away.  I’ve never ever seen him that upset in the entire time I’ve known him.”
“Would you say Danny was angry?”
“Yes, no?” Max replied “devastated is the word I would say is most accurate, he was crying but angry as well.  If I had been in his position I would feel angry that another man had been with my partner and I’d also feel angry that that man had been with my partner, especially my boss.  Danny and Cyril used to have quite a good personal and working relationship.  They used to socialize outside of work, they’d work out together, sometimes I’d join them and often they’d go out for a meal as well.”
“At any point did you see Danny hit or make contact with Mr Abiteboul?”
“No, the most I saw was his hand on Cyril’s chest pushing him up against a rack of ratchet guns.  He may have hit him prior to my arrival in the garage but I didn’t see it happen.”
On the other side of the courtroom Jemma rolled her eyes and audibly huffed.
“So to the best of your knowledge you don’t know how Mr Abiteboul’s nose came to be bleeding that night?”
“That is correct.”
“Oh come ON!” Jemma exclaimed in a carrying whisper.
“And at any point during your time in the Renault garage did Daniel express any desire to physically strike Mr Abiteboul?”
“No, all he said was “Let me at him” or “get off me” when we-Valtteri, Lewis, Toto, Christian and I held him back from lunging at him.”
“Did at any point in your time in the Renault garage did Daniel express any desire to physically strike Miss Boskovich?”
Max shook his head.
“No, he didn’t speak to her at all; the only communication they shared was a look of disgust on Daniel’s part.  I don’t think he knew what to say or even if he trusted himself to say anything.” He said “as I said earlier, he looked devastated.”
“And what happened after that?”
“Valtteri, Lewis and I dragged Daniel out of the garage and by then Michael had arrived, we told him what happened and he instructed me to take Danny back to the hotel, I did that and from there I called Robert the Renault team doctor because his right wrist was swollen.”
“And did Danny say what cause that swelling in his wrist?”
“No all he kept saying was he wanted to smash Cyril’s face in over and over and over until Robert arrive to assess his condition.”
“At any point did you think he would ‘smash Cyril’s face in’?”
“Seriously?  No he may have been angry about catching his boss in a compromising situation with his girlfriend but I never honestly thought he would do it.  I’ve never seen or even heard of him hitting anyone in that manner in all my time in F1.”
“Hmm thanks for your candor this morning Max it’s been extraordinarily helpful, I’ve finished questioning the witness m’lady.”
“Mr Albrecht would you like to question the witness?”
Albrecht got to his feet just as Darren sat down.
“I would m’lady,” he said “Mr Verstappen have you ever been to the Ricciardo family farm in Australia?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
“Winter break two thousand seventeen into eighteen so January two thousand eighteen.”
“And what did you do during your stay?”
To Eadaoin Max looked bored and she noted in amusement the young Dutchman barely hid an eyeroll.
“The usual thing one does when on holiday, I went to the beach, Daniel took me on a fishing and scuba diving trip with some of his Australian friends, I helped out his parents with farm chores, we worked out the usual stuff.”
“And nothing extraordinary or unusual happened during your stay?”
“No?  Nothing I would consider extraordinary or unusual anyway.”
“So you wouldn’t consider being punched by you in your words ‘good mate’ and breaking your nose extraordinary or unusual especially in a holiday setting?”
Max did actually roll his eyes at this question.
“No not really,” he said dismissively, shrugging his shoulders “not in the context of the situation no.”
“I hardly think that’s relevant Mr Verstappen-”
“Yeah actually it is,” Max returned in clipped toes “what did you client tell you about the incident?”
“That’s of no concern to you Mr Verstappen facts are there is evidence to suggest that Mr Ricciardo has violent tendencies and has violently assaulted someone other than my client clearly displaying a less than squeaky clean character!”
“Oh my god for fu-” Max muttered cutting himself off “are you actually for real?”
“I hardly think that attitude is appropriate for the courtroom Mr Verstappen.”
“Yeah well neither is lying and there is actual evidence to suggest your client’s been doing that isn’t there?” Max exclaimed in annoyed exasperation “you really are reaching for any scrap of proof Daniel is a violent alcoholic abuser aren’t you?  Let me tell you-”
“I have it on good authority-”
“Excuse me I have given you the courtesy of not interrupting you thus far I would appreciate it if you could do the same....alright?”
There was a long and awkward silence and all Albrecht could do is nod.
“I’ll start from the beginning and tell you every single fact of the story seeing and you don’t appear to be getting it from your client,” Max said in annoyance “on that day in question Daniel and I had been working out, under Michael’s instruction and we all decided to do some sparring.  I was wearing focus pads and Daniel was wearing gloves, we were going back and forth learning correct form and technique and had worked up quite a sweat and Daniel came at me with an upper cut and his glove slipped off my focus pad, through my hands and got my nose.  I knew immediately it had broken and it straight away started bleeding. Michael immediately rendered first aid and Daniel immediately began apologizing.  Michael couldn’t stop the bleeding so ordered Daniel to go inside and call an ambulance.  Mrs Ricciardo came out onto the deck and helped Michael make sure I was comfortable and when the ambulance arrived Daniel was the one who rode in the ambulance with me to hospital.  He was the one who stood aside and told the doctors at the hospital what happened and sat with me whilst I waited for a specialist to examine me.  I was unable to speak so he was the one that rang my both my parents, sister and girlfriend at the time to let them know what was happening and stayed with me till I was examined by the specialist after which it was determined I required surgery.  He paid for the surgery, was the first to visit me post surgery and was the one to keep my family updated until I was lucid enough to do it myself.  He even drove me home from hospital when I was discharged.  Then he re-organised his own flight schedule when it came time to go back to Europe and made sure he could sit with me til we were back in Monaco, he even wanted me to stay at his apartment to make sure I was going to be alright but by that stage, despite still wearing bandages I was fine to be alone.  He still insisted on going to my follow up medical appointments til I was given the all clear to resume normal activities.  Your client wasn’t even at the farm that day.  She was over fifty kilometers away in Perth and had been away for two days, she didn’t even return to the farm for til the next morning!  Does that sound like a violent alcoholic abuser to you?  It doesn’t to any right thinking person in the room today. What happened was a pure accident and in no way shape or form intentional, No matter how hard you try no one in this room, in the F1 paddock or anyone who has ever spent any meaningful time with him will ever say anything bad about Daniel, he’s a good guy, a true friend a decent person-everything your client isn’t.  He isn’t the person your client and yourself are making him out to be.  If you had been told the truth you’d realize that.”
There as a deafening silence as everyone in the court room digested Max’s speech, even Jem sat in her seat her mouth open in shock.
“D'you have any more questions for the witness Mr Albrecht?” Justice Wickstead asked.
“Er....um no m’lday I have no further questions.” The barrister replied stiffly.
“Alright, Mr Verstappen you can step down from the stand and I’m going to call for a short recess of two hours so we can all go and get some lunch and decompress a little,” Jutice Wickstead announced as Max returned to the public gallery “let’s all convene back here at one thirty PM sharp.”

BIOGRAPHY
trigger warning: unhappy (strict) childhood, racing accident, fire, miscarriage
Julian was born into the Hawthorne family on May 24th, 1986 as the oldest son of what eventually would turn into a five person family. Julian was shaped into what his parents needed him to be, keeping his emotions and thoughts to himself and learning how to stand tall, and be an authoritative figure to those around him. With their traditional views Julian was to carry on the Hawthorne family name in the future and would eventually inherit the estate as well as family company: HCP Holding, Something his parents often told him and his siblings. That didn’t mean however he received the brass of criticism and complaints from his parents, no that landed on his older sister instead. Julian of course noticed but said nothing of it, always happy he could just avoid the issues and do what he wanted.
It was from a very young age that he discovered his passion for karting, something his father saw talent in and decided to sponsor his hobby. He was always a confident boy which only grew into overconfidence the older he became. He was the popular kid, even becoming the student government president by popular vote, but also getting him, and sometimes others, in trouble. Detention was a familiar territory for him, as well as the after school parties. Despite this, Julian had to do well in school so not to face his parents’ wrath. So he graduated with high grades, saying goodbye to his teenage years.
It was by the urge of his father that he enrolled to university in Harvard in the United States of America and followed his parents over to America. He always knew he wanted to chase a professional career with his hobby, and would often be at the kart track whenever he didn’t have to be at the university, or didn’t attend parties. It was during one of these frat parties at Kismet Harbor’s university that rocked his world. What is important to know about Julian is that he is quite the casanova. Leaving a trail of girlfriends behind him since high school. Julian never grew attachments to anyone outside of his siblings and a few close friends, and it was more the matter of having something pretty at his side than to form an actual relationship. The more serious it grew, the faster he would break it off. This one evening at a frat party however, he woo’d a girl that took to his liking, a high school senior that snuck in. She showed him behaviour opposite than the women he had dated before, and it entrigued him. She also showed no interest to stick around, which was a sign that perhaps she was what he needed in his life, and pursued her, gallantly.
For the next few years, everything went as they should. Julian had the girl, he graduated university, settled in Kismet Harbor, shadowed his father at wok and got his first contract in Formula 3. It was the start of an ever rising career. He quickly gathered popularity among the race fans, became a flirty and teasing personality both on screen and off screen to the world and to his colleagues. The world was at his feet, winning his F3 championship and transferring to Formula 2 thereafter. The next years after Julian seemed to pour his free time into charities, no longer being in a relationship got him to pour more time into other things. Such as becoming a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, particularly focusing on children’s education in third world countries and children in warzones. He wears the UNICEF logo with pride on his racing suit.
Formula one was a calling, the elite of the best drivers the world had to offer. With speeds as high as 200 miles an hour, all of them wanting to go for that number one podium step and in the end, the world champion trophy, and another. In the end Julian made it, a rivalry growing between him and another driver, both going for their third world championship. It was the race where Julian could already grasp the trophy. But his rival made a sharp overtake, creating Julian’s car to spin off track and into the barrier. For what seemed to be forever, shocked viewers looked at repeated footage of the crash, his red car split in half, a barrier broken, and a fireball reaching to the sky where the front half of his vehicle had went. No one would make it out of there alive, Fire was always bad news after all. His family in the paddock had their sweet release after three minutes with footage of Julian in the medical car. He had survived the accident with mere burns to his hands and feet. His rival had caught up the lead, and there was only one race left.
Nobody expected Julian to get back in that race car after what he had gone through. But that very last race he was there. He watched those red lights, ignored the pain and he raced. A third championship to his name. He couldn’t say the near death experience hadn’t changed him, and there were talks that the next season, the season of 2023 would be his last one. Especially since news leaked of plans to build a house of his own and a youth center in his hometown. Would Julian finally settle down with a new beau after the end of the season, or would a possible fourth win convince him to stay on? Only time would tell.
2023 proved to be fruitful for Julian. He won his fourth championship, managed to officially close the chapter with his ex and start a new relationship and open up a youth center in his town. With a dark cloud to look back on where he lost a child he was expecting with Verity Wagner. He realises everyday that he is ready for a new path in his life, yet has still to figure out exactly what that means, the path he wants for himself but is still uncertain about, or the path his parents have envisioned for him ever since his birth?

masterlist 🦋 requests are open feedback is awalys important to me!
Tumblr media
"I think I've done this before..." Baekhyun said as they got in the kart track.
Jaein linked her arms with Kai's and placed her head on his shoulder as they walked to a table where there were some helmets with a go pro on top of it and the booby trap siren ringing.
"I think we're competing again." Kai said.
"Welcome to the thrilling MTOPIA."
The director said and they looked at her.
"You'll be driving five laps in total. The member with the best record will earn 5 M-Cash, and the reward will decrease down the rank. The last one to finish earns no money."
"I can't go any lower." Jaein said chuckling.
"Who are the last ones?" Ten asked.
"Me, Jaein and Mark." Kai answered him.
"But wait," Taemin said. "what happens to me?"
"We prepared a two-seater kart for you." the director explained. "Whoever rides with you, will receive the double number of M-Cash."
"Taemin-ah." Kai and Jaein said at the same time and looked at each other surprised.
"Wow!" Mark said, laughing and clapping.
"I've already decided." Taemin instantly said. "Should I go with Mark since he's the youngest?"
"NO!" Jaein quickly exclaimed.
"She's gonna cry." Kai teased Jaein with a pout, and she playfully punched his biceps.
"I won't." Jaein said, fixing her hair. "He'll regret it. No offence Mark."
Mark and the other boys laughed at Jaein while the director told them to wait in another corner so that a professional trainer could explain to them the rules and everything they needed to know before starting the race.
When the woman got closer to them, she bowed at Jaein with a little smile.
"So, I'll explain to you the rules, and I need you to pay attention because although it looks simple, it can be dangerous." she meticulously said and looked at Jaein. "I know you already know the rules, but it's always to review."
"Sure." Jaein said with a slight smile.
Taemin tilted his head and furrowed his eyebrows with that info. He rose his head behind Kai and focused on Jaein, who was holding back a laugh, and he quickly recognised that face.
It was the same face she had when they were going out for dinner once, and the cashier recognised her as 'the owner's favourite child'.
He looked at her with jaw dropped.
"Wait a minute..." Taemin said, walking closer and pointing at Jaein, who started chuckling right away. "Does your father own this place?!" he exclaimed.
She laughed out loud while the other boys were also shocked about the sudden reveal.
"Jaein-ssi?" Baekhyun spoke, amazed. "Is this true?"
"For real?" Mark asked in the same way.
Unable to say much, she just nodded, making the boys snort at the same time.
"Wow, Jaein flex!" Baekhyun said, making a shaka sign.
"So that's why you suggested this." Ten said after absorbing what happened.
"You just got it now?" Lucas asked him, laughing.
"Okay, now pay attention to what she's gonna say because it's pretty obvious I'm gonna win." Jaein pointed at the trainer with a teasing smile.
"Whoa, she's unbelievable!" Taemin said.
Not even ten minutes after, they were all aware of what to do and what not to do, which flag was for what and were ready to begin the race.
"I swear I'm taking easy on you..." Jaein said as she got in the kart car and put her safety belt on.
"You don't have to." Kai said. "I'm gonna win anyway."
"Hyung!" Mark whined on his shared car with Taemin. "Don't do this!"
Jaein chuckled and teased Jongin with a flying kiss, making him make an ugly face in disapproval and pretending to 'throw' the kiss away.  Once everyone was ready, and the kart cars were on, the green flag started to wave, indicating the race has begun.
She purposely took the last car, letting the boys have this advantage over her and started calm and slow, not even caring about winning anymore. But, once she looked to the cars and saw Kai overtaking Baekhyun, she couldn't let the opportunity to piss him off slid.
Jaein speeded up as much as she could, passing by Mark and Taemin, Lucas, Ten and Baekhyun.
"Jaein!" she heard Baekhyun screaming in frustration behind her and chuckled, showing him a finger heart as she reached the back of Kai's car.
He tried to look over his shoulder, and when he saw who was there, he whined.
"How is she already here?" he groaned to himself.
Unfortunately, Jaein wasn't able to overtake him on the first lap but, as soon as they passed the finish line to start the second lap, she once again speeded up and reached him, sending a peace sign.
"KIM JAEIN!" she heard him screaming her name.
Tumblr media
"I won. I won. I won!" Jaein said getting out of the car after finishing all her laps.
Jongin's car stopped right behind hers, and before he could completely leave the car, she was already jumping and making silly dances in front of him. He left the car and crossed his arms, pouting.
"Kim Jongin," she said a childish tone and hugged him from behind. "you said you'd win. You can't beat me."
"How did you suddenly show up behind me?" he asked, turning around to face her as he took the helmet off.
"God has his favourites." she shrugged.
His sulking expression quickly turned into a laugh.
"I guess I'm not one of them!"

E-Sports
Occasionally, you can read about a game adding or already having “e-sports features“ like tournaments or spectator mode, or about trying to “bootstrap an e-sports scene“ by hosting a tournament with a five- or low-six-figure dollar amount prize pool.
This is not how it works. You can’t turn any game into an e-sport by paying people to play it, or by adding features that enable players to run their own tournaments. E-sports are computer games as competitive spectator sports.
For this to work, you need:
Full-time competitive players
A large audience of passive viewers
A media industry/tournament circuit with sponsors, commentators, broadcasting channels, hosting and monetising professional matches
You cannot have #3 without the first two. You cannot have full-time professional players without #2 and #3. It all feeds into the other pieces.
Maybe, if you cannot afford to have a tournament circuit and full-time pro gamers, you can instead have something similar on a smaller scale:
A high-level hobbyist competitive scene
A small, but committed crowd of enthusiasts keeping the game alive
Enough interest for the enthusiasts to fund an annual tournament
The small-scale model seems to be how speed running and the fighting game community operate. The large-scale model is how StarCraft used to work, and how League of Legends, CS:GO and Overwatch work today.
Professional Competitive High-Level Play
E-sports depends on world-class players who can make a living playing your game at a world-class level. They are called “professional gamers”. They train for the game as their day job, probably with some cardio, gymnastics, and hand-eye coordination exercise mixed in. They have sponsors and trainers, which I will cover more in depth in point #3. For there to even be world-class players, the game has to reward high skill.
A competitive scene needs a a balanced, but competitive game. A competitive game with has skill measurement and a high skill ceiling.
E-sports pro gamers are playing the same game as regular players, but they are very good at it, so good that they dominate matches against average players, and even matches against good players. That’s what makes them world-class. If you could spectate just any game on the ladder, the e-sports scene would nor be special. If the outcomes of a match are heavily influenced by randomness, there can’t be a big difference between world-class players and people who just picked up the game. If the game provides high skill measurement at low levels, but runs into ceiling effects at high levels, for example if pro players frequently play a perfect game of computer golf, or a perfect game of computer bowling, there is no skill measurement at high levels, and high-level matches become boring.
An e-sports scene can only exist when the game is balanced for high-level play and has a long skill chain. I the game is discovered to have boring solutions, it must be patched.
How can you determine who is a “world-class“ player after the game launches? How can you be sure the pro-gamers are really world-class if they only play against other pro gamers? How do players ascend from competitive hobbyist to pro? An e-sports game needs a lively hobbyist competitive scene. Good matchmaking and a public ladder allow professional players to practice against random high-level players, hobbyist players to measure their skill against pro players, and everybody everywhere to know where the metagame is at. After all, what good is skill measurement if you never measure yourself?
An e-sports game needs a ranked ladder and good matchmaking.
The pro gamers will probably spend a significant amount of time each week training, sparring against team mates, practising specific moves, techniques, or strategies. This requires custom matches (ranked ladder matches are still good for raising team brand recognition on twitch though, in addition to getting a feel for the metagame). I heard that during the heyday of StarCraft II, some teams spent hours practising defence against cheese like 6-pool Zerg rush, a bunker rush, or a Zealot/Stalker all-in.
Of course, if you practice defence against bunker rushes for days only for bunkers to be nerfed on the day of a tournament, it’s all moot.
There must be a way for competitive players to practice in custom games against colleagues. Patches affecting balance or tournament play must be small and announced well in advance.
The Passive Watching Experience
The audience cares about the game, knows what’s going on and who is winning, and loosely follows the metagame and the goings-on in the e-sports scene, but not necessarily all the beef and player transfers.
The simplest, but not easiest, way to a large audience for an e-sport is to have a large player base. People who occasionally play the game at a hobbyist level are already familiar with the mechanics, and a little emotionally invested in the outcome of games. Even in some real-life spectator sports (like football), you expect almost all people in your audience to have played the game at some point in the past.
A large hobbyist player base also feeds into the smaller pool of more competitive players, and thus ultimately into the pro gamer scene.
All this is presupposing that the e-sport still resembles the game as most players know it. If the high-level matches look completely different from hobbyist ones, if different skills are important, and if it is difficult to know for a hobbyist player what is going on and who is winning, it is much more difficult to parley a hobbyist player base into an e-sports audience. In some Nintendo party games, like Mario Kart and Smash Bros, (but not Mario Party, which is only casual and does not have a competitive scene) most players are playing only very casually against friends, and in others, most players are only playing in single-player mode. They don’t care about winning or getting good at the game, so they are less likely to care about e-sports.
For a large player base, the game has to be easy to pick up, easy to understand, and still fun and competitive at the entry level. Being easy to pick up and understand also makes e-sports games easier to watch and understand passively.
Having multiple games modes can be a nice compromise, allowing casual players to play in a low-skill game mode while competitive players have a higher skill ceiling. This works best if the cards, units, weapons, or whatever your game has, and all mechanics and physics still follow the same rules, and only a few elements are swapped out. Playing with the same rules but different starting configuration and goal state is better than playing “easy mode” with a completely different balance. Casual observers can follow and appreciate e-sports matches if they know what’s going on. By changing the win condition, starting state, and introducing a couple of new mechanics, new game modes can mostly maintain the game mechanics while shifting the dynamics of a match. Keeping the dynamics but making the moment-to-moment gameplay less predictable for the casual observer is much more confusing.
For the viewers who are not playing the game at all, e-sports broadcasters must explain what’s going on, who is winning, and what the current metagame is.
In some games, the metagame is more important than in others. Card games like Hearthstone are difficult to understand for viewers who are not up-to-date on the metagame, even though the mechanics are easily explained, and the card-specific rules are written on the cards. Without knowledge about the current metagame (which decks are dominating the ladder, whether aggro, control, or combo decks rule, what kinds of tech cards/adjustments players can add to react to small shifts in the metagame) it is nearly impossible to make sense of what is happening. That is true even when the viewers see all the cards and know both decks in advance. Specifically, it is difficult to understand why a player is playing fast or slow, greedy or safe, defensive or aggressive, and also who is winning. The same goes for Magic - The Gathering. It’s nigh impossible to understand how a matchup between two decks works without knowing what other cards could be in there, but aren’t. This can ruin the experience for people who know the rules but play the game only very casually.
Other games may have clearer indicators of who is winning and what is going on, but even fighting games with health bars, RTS games with supply counters, and MOBA games with lanes whose battle lines you can see on the minimap won’t let you tell who is winning based on one factor alone. Such a game would be boring! In every competitive game, there should be a way to sacrifice hit points for better positioning (e.g. in Smash Bros or Virtua Fighter), or to fall back on a lane in exchange for gold, so there is never a “simple” metric to see who is winning. If there were such a metric, the first player who gains a small advantage by that metric would just snowball out of control and dominate the match.
In any case, passive spectators benefit from additional visual feedback, because while the players know which buttons were pressed, the audience does not. Passive watchers have much less information than active players. In the first-person view, it can be enough to just indicate whether something failed or succeeded, hit or missed. A fighting game player knows which button he pressed, and his opponent knows whether he blocked correctly or not. Nonetheless, the game should also communicate visually which type of action the players chose for the benefit of the audience.
Visual spectacle and clear legibility are sometimes at odds with each other, but visual spectacle can make watching a game more “fun“.
Having too clear an indication of who is winning can be a detriment, too. It’s good to have clear visual feedback, but not to have limited gameplay options. If the future trajectory of a match is set in stone as soon as one player establishes a clear lead, the game is no longer fun to watch from that point onwards. In games with perfect information, or with enough information, the losing player might simply resign instead of drawing out the match to its bitter conclusion, but in some games with fog of war, one player might be oblivious of his disadvantage, or he might go on and on looking for “outs“ while the audience already knows how everything will eventually play out.
This is just one way in which games can be boring to watch at higher levels of skill, even if the audience understands what is going on. There needs to be a certain flow of action, to keep viewers engaged and entertained. The game should get going without a long set-up phase, and should wind down without a drawn-out endgame. To keep viewers involved at all times, decisions throughout every phase of the match should influence the outcome.
Comebacks, reversals, pivoting to different strategies, risky plays with big pay-offs are all ways to introduce drama into the watching experience.
Fighting games are harder to read for the audience moment-to-moment, the matches are shorter, they can end abruptly, and they are difficult to get into. All this means they don’t make for as fun a watching experience compared to MOBAs, RTS games, or objective-based modes in first-person shooters.
Digression: Let’s Play and Variety Streaming
E-sports is not the only way to broadcast games for entertainment. Your YouTubers and variety streamers can make a living on games, but they don’t have to be world-class. People don’t watch them because they are good at the game, or sometimes not at all because of the game, but because of the streamer’s personality, the community, and the funny commentary. Playing the right game is a way for small twitch streamers to gain new viewers, but it’s not what keeps people around. Some streamers mainly stream the same single-player game every time, and are so good at it they have a streak of hundreds of games in hard mode. Even they retain their viewers because of their personality, not because they are the best at the game.
Of course, a variety streamer or Youtuber can also play competitive games like Chess, PUBG, or Rainbow Six: Siege. It’s played a different format though: Viewers see what the streamer sees, and a face-cam, and if the streamer is eliminated from a round of PUBG or Fall Guys, the streamer often does not spectate the rest of the round for the viewers find out who wins.
YouTubers of average gaming skill can even play tournaments of casual but competitive (in the sense that you play against each other) games against other YouTubers, or organise tournaments in more casual goofy games like Ultimate Chicken Horse, Duck Game, Mount Your Friends, Golf with Friends, or Rock of Ages and still draw in viewers. This is a common method of cross-promotion.
Variety streamers also play party games like Quiplash, Cards Against Humanity, or Mario Party as a backdrop for conversation with other streamers.
They sometimes play competitive games in a team with other streamers, but the necessity of coordinating within the squad in League of Legends, PUBG or CS:GO means more airtime will be dedicated to the actual game, and banter will suddenly have to make way for tactics.
Events and Broadcasting
E-sports events have legitimacy, teams, sponsors, brand recognition that draws an audience, and commentators.
E-sports broadcasters usually call the commentators their “talent“, not the players. The players or “athletes“ come and go, and they get sponsor money from elsewhere, but the commentators and moderators are hired by the broadcaster/event organiser. The commentators are usually both entertaining personalities and knowledgeable about the game. They fill dead air with background info about he players and their recent matches, explain what’s going on, crack jokes, or just do play-by-play commentary. Viewers are often more attached to commentators than to players. There are usually two commentators and a dedicated off-screen observer controlling the spectator camera, in addition to a referee spectating the game, and the players. Additional moderators and interviewers may be on the stage during an e-sports event. Sometimes experts (retired pro gamers) are brought in to analyse a replay in the pause between matches, like in real sports.
While variety streamers play both the role of “entertainer“ and player, this is split up between players and the commentators/moderators, so players can focus on winning and commentators can focus on filling dead air.
By “legitimacy” I mean this: Players in tournaments are supposed to the best of the best, and the organiser’s brand guarantees that viewers won’t see any old boring game, but a pro game with high stakes. If there is a random member of the public in the pool, you know he played his way through some preliminary rounds. I could host a LAN party, throw a Kernel Panic tournament, and declare the winner the 2021 world champion, but I would not have any legitimacy in the eyes of the player base. Large prize pools, a structured and well-regulated tournament, big-name players, and a blessing from the developers can bestow legitimacy.
Getting players, sponsors, broadcasters and an audience into a room takes a lot of money. E-sports sponsors are usually manufacturers or brands of higher-priced gaming hardware, like Alienware, Razer and ASUS ROG, or snack foods and energy drinks. The products are either used by the pro gamers, thematically connected to the game in some way, or used by the audience. Snack foods go well with watching e-sports, but less well with playing. You wouldn’t want to eat a packet of crisps and move your hands back and forth between the crisps and the keyboard and mouse...
With so much money invested and riding on the success of e-sports events, there is a lot of incentive to diversify and look for the next big thing, but also
Takeaway
When you read news about a developer or publisher “establishing a game as an e-sport“, it often means throwing money at a tournament and getting sponsors on board.
When you read about a developer “adding e-sports features“, it often means a ladder, tournaments, or spectator mode.
Of all the prerequisites established above, the most important to establish a game as an e-sport are:
balance
skill measurement/high skill ceiling
easy to learn
interesting to watch
fun to watch
A game like Fall Guys is popular and “fun to watch“, but not particularly interesting, the drama only works if you follow a single player all the way to the last round, not if you watch the action from high up. Fall Guys has a lot of randomness and a low skill ceiling.
Amazon once even hosted a casual game tournament in which variety streamers played mobile games against each other. The goal of that event was to sell their Fire (Android) tablets. This did not kick-start a competitive mobile gaming scene.
There were rumours of EA trying to “establish“ Star Wars: Battlefront II as an e-sport, by funding a large tournament, but the game was neither interesting nor fun to watch.
It is a fool’s errand to “add e-sports“ to a game, instead of trying to make a good game first, or at least one that is fun to watch.

why does seb sometimes carry himself hunched over and off balance like he’s surrounded by glass shards on all sides???? It’s not always sometimes he stands normal but like the rental Maserati pic and the second pic from the teds notebook thing with Britta??? why is he doing this stand up square
anon i am DELIGHTED by this ask, i woke up, saw this, thought about it, was late for work because of the thinking about it, thought about is some more and came to this conclusion:
seb stands around like an awkward teenager before his mom tells him to stand up straight and have some manners. Why does he stand like this?
He has been professionally karting from age seven and been a red bull junior since he was twelve.
this means he a) was both from racing and from like, school probably under pressure and when driving to races and working on karts/cars, posture isn't the first thing people think of.
Due to the red bull programme he had to deliver, racing-wise, every time without fail which in turn means putting a lot of work in which means, especially progressing through higher categories, being hunched over data sheets and staring at screens for long periods of time and i doubt that helmut marko or anyone working with the red bull juniors is overly concerned with the way they sit.
The times when he doesn't stand like hes auditioning for the hunchback of notre dame is probably when his trainer sees him and tells him to stand up straight.
Tl;dr: seb was never told to have a normal posture as a kid/teenager and now antti is suffering
for your consideration; have some pictures in which sebs posture is questionable
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he doesn't look overly slouchy here but this image always makes me snort
Tumblr media
also please note the way he sits during the drivers briefing like sir if i sat like that my mom would yell at me to get some fucking manners
Tumblr media
to round it off, even when looking like maurizios sugar baby he is slouched on his chair in a way that would get me expelled from the family christmas dinner.
Tumblr media
of course all that is written here is purely speculative and all in good fun and if anyone really wants to know why seb sometimes has atrocious posture, please ask his trainer.

Circus AU tidbits: Part Deux
While I’m working on editing a few things, here’s a few more tidbits from my RotTMNT Circus AU! Today, we focus on the turts :)
The turtles aspire to be like their idol, Lou Jitsu: the greatest circus performer ever. But Lou Jitsu mysteriously vanished one day, and nobody knows his whereabouts... (hmmm....)
Raph has an interest in becoming an animal trainer (that is, if the animals actually liked him) or a protégé to Ghost Bear, who’s gig in Draxum’s circus is weightlifting and feats of strength. (Raph: Maybe I can weightlift animals!) One of Raph’s duties is roadie work: lifting things up and putting them down... that sort of thing.
Mikey dreams of combining his razzmatazz with pyrotechnics: he’s a big fan of the Sando Bros. When he’s not a hyping up the crowd, he helps Meat Sweats cook for the circus’ cast and crew.
Leo’s a jack of all trades: sword tricks, juggling, professional clown, you name it. Could he be the next daredevil act? Who knows. He gravitates towards Hypno (and his weird worm assistant) because he’s a sucker for magic tricks. He also tries recklessly showing off to Draxum, hoping to impress him.
Donnie works behind the scenes with Repo in maintenance: fixing equipment, circus vehicles, etc. One day, he hopes to dazzle audiences with a technological act of his own (laser light show, his trick drones, etc.) but for now, he helps formulate potential acts with his bros during his downtime. He and Repo are the guys you find driving around the premises in a golf-kart.

Potential jobs/careers for the Hargreeves if they weren’t raised by Reginald
In which the (not)Hargreeves were raised in supportive environments where they were able to pursue their own interests and weren’t turned into child super soldiers
also this turned out way longer than intended (like 1500 ish) and I don’t really have creative writing experience so this may read like an essay
Luther: Physical Therapist
Luther would frequently go to the gym for stress relief or just for fun. He would practically become a personal trainer/support team for any of his friends who asked for advice at the gym. The coach at his high school frequently encouraged him to compete in weight lifting, but Luther decided not to because he thought using his powers would count as cheating.
He realized senior year of high school that he could continue helping people by doing what he loves so he decided to study physical therapy when he went to his university. At one point he switched to being a general sciences major but he switched back after a semester.
However, his love of science never faded. He’s become a regular at several science museums and planetariums in his city and the surrounding area. He’s considering going back to college for another degree so he can teach science someday because he’s always had a passion for sharing what he loves.
Diego: EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)
Diego didn’t realize that his good aim came from his powers until he was in middle school; up until then he figured that he just didn’t have any powers. He played t-ball when he was young before switching to baseball and playing through high school. Although he could have used his powers to do supernaturally well, Diego focused on utilizing his own natural talents, which earned him a spot on his university’s baseball team.
Although he considered going pro, Diego decided to become an EMT. He has a passion for helping others and knew that this was a healthy and helpful way to channel the hero instinct that he’s always had.
Even though Diego didn’t pursue a career in baseball, he still enjoys the sport. He volunteers to coach a kids baseball team on the weekends. He has become a significant positive role model for the kids he teaches. Now he occasionally uses his powers to entertain them with pitches that could never happen naturally.
Allison: Lawyer
Luckily, Allison was able to train her powers to only work for a certain phrase fairly early on, when she was around four years old. Her parents helped her come up with a phrase so they could take a break from having ice cream for dinner almost every day.
After a few unfortunate incidences of letting her powers go too far, she decided to be more careful and only use her powers when absolutely necessary. Allison recognized the importance of people using their voices for good so she participated in speech and debate teams and in student government throughout high school and college.
Allison studied pre-law before attending law school. She has taken on many high profile cases and plans to open her own firm fairly soon. She makes it a point to provide low cost or free services to people who may not be able to afford a good lawyer.
Klaus: Philosophy Professor
Being able to speak with the dead caused Klaus to have a lot of questions about the world, life, and the afterlife. His parents helped him to healthily cope with the ghosts around him; now he’s not afraid of ghosts and occasionally is able to help them. He excelled in school and graduated a year early.
Klaus worked as a medium and palm reader to have some extra funds while in college. All of the medium experiences were real but the palm readings were entirely made up (but were somehow always correct).
He double majored in philosophy and classics before pursuing his master’s degree and becoming a philosophy professor. He’s still a bit of a character, but what professor isn’t? Klaus is known for his thought-provoking lectures; students always try to enroll in his classes because they know that it will be a positive experience.
Five: Physicist
While he was very young, Five figured out that he could teleport; once he grew older, he made it his mission to find out how it works. He took as many classes as he could while in elementary, middle, and high school. Five studied physics at his university to continue to study the science behind teleportation.
After graduating college, Five got a job at NASA. His goal is to continue studying his power so that he can replicate it with machines to revolutionize the future of space travel. He’s begun considering whether or not he should attempt to time travel with his powers but he’s still considering the ethics of this.
Five’s other goal is to create the perfect cup of coffee. He worked as a barista in college to help him on this mission; the results were very mixed.
Ben: Book Editor
Ben discovered his powers as a young kid and was, unfortunately, terrified. He began keeping to himself and it took him a while to open up again. During those years to himself, he fell in love with books and literature.
When he began college he chose to study literature, but he switched to professional writing at the beginning of sophomore year. Ben worked at the school newspaper for his last two years of college and he has been working on his own novel on and off for several years.
Now he works as a book editor; this allows him to travel occasionally because he can work practically anywhere. Sometimes, Ben chooses to go somewhere remote so he can allow the thing inside of him to stretch out. He’s also trying to find and meet some of the other people like him so they know that they don’t have to be alone.
Vanya: Music Teacher
Vanya’s parents realized early on that she could healthily channel her powers through music. She enjoyed studying her first instrument so much that she now knows how to play eight, but her favorite is the violin.
She participated in band and orchestra throughout high school and continued on with orchestra through college. Although she didn’t declare a major starting out, Vanya decided to study music education after she began giving music lessons halfway through freshman year.
Vanya now works as a music teacher at an elementary school because she’s great with kids and understands that music can be a good way to channel emotions when you can’t describe what you’re feeling with words. She still does private lessons on the weekends and in the summer.
How they met each other (bc I still want them to be friends without the Academy)
Luther and Five
Luther and Five met in a general science class freshman year. They were in the same group for a project and quickly became friends; partially because they had a lot of shared interests, partially because their other group partner did practically nothing to help.
They rented an apartment together for the next three years. They accidentally discovered each others powers at the same time; while attempting to move a couch up the stairs to their apartment it started to fall, Luther picked it up to keep it from falling on Five as soon as Five teleported away. After that, they were happy to finally stop hiding their abilities. Luther and Five had a shared passion for space; Luther actually suggested that Five could apply his abilities to space travel.
Allison, Vanya, and Klaus
Allison decided to take piano lessons sophomore year, a friend recommended that she take lessons from Vanya. Allison only took lessons for a few months before she had to stop due to a busy schedule but they still hang out at least a few times a month. They met Klaus at a New Year’s Eve party when he offered to read their palms; they both declined but now they all hang out.
Klaus told them that he sees ghosts shortly after they met but they both thought that he was joking. Allison and Vanya realized that he was telling the truth when he manifested a ghost on their birthday junior year. Vanya was excited to share her powers with them but it took Allison a few months to be comfortable with sharing her abilities.
Ben and Diego
While Ben was working at the university paper, he met Diego while writing an article about the baseball team. They ended up in a class together the next semester and became pretty close friends. Even though they didn’t have a ton of interests in common, they both loved video games and would compete in Mario Kart competitions together.
Despite becoming close friends and celebrating a few birthdays together, they never told each other about their powers. Diego was worried that people would find out about his powers and assume he was cheating at baseball, meaning that he would be kicked off of the team. Ben was still not fully comfortable with his abilities and was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to keep them under control.
note: I know that it’s not likely 100% realistic that they would all end up going to a college or university because not everyone does. But it is a realistic way for people with different interests and from different countries to interact with each other so that’s what I went with. Idk I just like to think that they would all still be able to be friends without the experience of being in the umbrella academy to bring them together.

Note
No shade but the boys from Riverdale look scrumptious and he looks so unappealing which is sad because he plays the superhero. I’m happy he got a serious trainer because messing with his wife had him looking frail.
The boys from RD have been working out with professionals for a minute. Grant been playing Mario Kart, eating lettuce wraps and doing 6 out of 8 reps of whatever workouts LA stole off the internet for months. They are lot the same. 😂😂

Name: Carmen Guadalupe Laura Cruz
Character: Cruz Ramirez from Cars 3
Age: 30
Occupation: Professional Racecar Driver/Employee at King’s Mountain Go-Karts
Faceclaim: MJ Rodriguez
Played by: Adam
+ Ambitious, Sunny, Inspiring - Insecure, Clumsy, Stubborn
Carmen was born in Texas, the eldest of three children in an all boys house. It wasn’t until middle school that Carmen expressed her feelings to her parents who supported her in transitioning. With her family behind her she moved on to her next goal, becoming a real racer. While she eventually ended up on a track, her nerves got the better of her and she was unable to race. Instead she took a job as a trainer/technician, never feeling quite satisfied with her decision.
It wouldn’t be until she met the one and only, Lance ‘Lightning’ McQueen, that she’d start to believe in herself again. At first only his trainer, he eventually pushed her back onto the track, managing to go toe to toe with other racers. Afterwards their contracts were bought out by Dinoco, the two now focused on continuing on growing Carmen’s racing career.
Still even the thrill of racing can start to burn a person out after a while. Nowhere near ready to retire, Carmen asked Lance for advice on what to do. He recommended finding a home to unwind in much like he had found in Radiator Springs. While Texas had been nice, Carmen wanted a new adventure; picking a random town she’s managed to build a comfortable life here in Andromeda.
                                                   ~ Connections ~
Keith Carrington ~ Carmen almost couldn’t believe it when Keith hired her on the spot, she’d almost suffocated the man in a hug afterwards. She loves working with him, admiring his work ethic and positive attitude. More than grateful to work under such a caring and kindhearted man.
Lance 'Lighting’ McQueen ~ Her coach and mentor, she follows his advice to the letter. He was her hero growing up and she wants to inspire other kids just like he did for her. She keeps in regular contact with him and is the first person she calls when she’s in trouble.
