Cult Girl: Doctorate (Hannibal x Pregnant!Female!Reader) pt. 12
Cult girl deals with an unexpected and unwelcome guest.
@wisesandwichshark @pearlstiare
Trigger warnings: pregnancy, emotional manipulation, emotional abuse, infidelity, threats of violence
Step three: kill Anna
So maybe there was an understanding that the pregnancy was to be kept secret from Anna.
The withdrawal of Archie and Max from the picture left a hole in the plan. Just when it looked like you had secured that much-needed victory, it shriveled up and died right before your eyes. That much was certain. Everything else was a big question mark.
Ever since he felt the baby kicking, Hannibal became even more hopelessly enamored with the idea of being a father. He never mentioned it, of course, but it was there. It was there in the way he cooed at your stomach and how his hand lingered after he felt a kick. He was in heaven.
For a few days, it looked like the downward trajectory was beginning to flatten. Then you remembered your favorite line from Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool:
"Life is an endless series of trainwrecks with only brief, commercial-like breaks of happiness." You repeated to yourself as your phone flashed Theresa's call icon.
It took you a minute to remember that Theresa in your phone was actually Anna, because you hadn't bothered to change it. In a way, it was symbolic. Theresa was the head you cut off, and Anna sprouted up in her place. All in the pursuit of making your life unbearable.
You pulled the toothbrush from your mouth and placed it next to the sink. Lazily, you brought the phone to your ear. "What?"
"Hey pretty girl!" Anna said, using her most transparently fake cheery voice. "How's it going?"
Then it clicked. You felt kind of stupid that you didn't see it coming. In the world of cults, this was known as 'lovebombing'; a manipulation tactic in which the cult leader showers their target with affection, compliments, validation or anything that would make them associate good feelings with the group. In any other context, it would be called 'ass-kissing'.
You narrowed your eyes in skepticism. "What do you want?"
"Jeez, who crapped in your corn flakes?" She scoffed. "Can't a girl just call her little sister to say hi?"
It would have been one thing to say 'cousin', which, despite your bad blood, would have been technically accurate. But 'sister' was crossing a line. The blood that binded you and Anna together was thinner than water.
"We're not sisters, Anna." You corrected. "Why are you calling?"
"I just wanted to let you know that all is forgiven." She said, slipping back into that phony cheerful tone. "That little fiasco at the funeral, it's water under the bridge."
What Anna didn't know was that the water under the bridge was never water, but gasoline. Every drop that flowed under that bridge only created a more dangerous blaze for when you finally burned it down.
"Awesome." You said, flatly.
"I also wanted to say, 'may the best woman win'." She jeered. "I don't want to alarm you, but Liam and I have been fucking like bunnies."
You gagged. "I'm not alarmed but I certainly didn't need to know that."
"I've been keeping track of my ovulation," She disregarded your objection and continued the conversation she wanted to have. "And I even put child locks on the computer so Liam can't watch porn. Can't spare even a drop, y'know. It's too crucial."
"I will literally let you have the entire inheritance if you please just shut up right now." You said through gritted teeth.
"Oh?" She perked up. "Come on, don't give up. Don't make it too easy. Winning is just more fun when someone else loses."
She was growing into her Theresa shoes quite well.
"Seriously, though," You raised your eyebrows. "If it means I never have to see you again, by all means. Take the damn money."
"You know I love you, right?" Anna blurted out, pretending to be offended. "You may not think so, but I love you like a sister."
Again, you fought the urge to feel bad for her. Her model of sisterly love was Theresa. She could use the word to invoke sympathy, but would never know what it meant. It hit your ear exactly the same as when fundamentalist christian strangers said they loved you and that's why they were harassing you. Just an empty annoyance.
You rolled your eyes. "Goodbye, Anna."
"Wait!" She shouted as if she was about to die.
You threw your head back in exasperation. "What?!"
"I wanted to give you a little good-luck gift." She said.
You were slightly interested. "Oh?"
"Yes." She answered. "Can I swing by and drop it off later?"
You sighed. "Whatever. As long as you make it fast."
You were most certainly noticeably pregnant, but a fluffy robe obscured any misplaced curves just enough. You just hoped she wouldn't ask why you were wearing a fluffy robe in July. Anna arrived at the house, with Liam, who was holding a small basket of colorful jars and bottles.
You waited a minute to see if she would just leave the basket on the porch, but she didn't. You resignedly opened the door.
"[F/N]!" She shouted with that hyper-enthusiastic smile. You cringed, trying not to let her presence trigger your morning sickness.
The smile disappeared from her face. "Jesus H, you look like hell."
You desperately wanted to inform her that it was the strain of growing a human inside your body, but you held your tongue and thought of an excuse.
"I'm hungover." You said. Yeah, that would work.
"The usual, I see." Anna snipped at you under her breath.
You eyed the basket. You didn't even bother to mask your disappointment when you realized it wasn't food. "What's this?"
"Oh, this?" Anna said as if she were starting a sales pitch. "This is my olive branch. My exclusive DoTERRA fertility rejuvenation kit."
Your brain refused to process that Anna had been sucked in to an MLM, as it was really only a matter of time. You just didn't think it would take this long.
"Dude, you're twenty-nine and I'm twenty-six." You narrowed your eyes at her. "What on earth are we rejuvenating?"
She pointed to a collection of little bottles. "So these are for the initial cleanse. Put a few drops of this in your food, and some of this in your bathwater-"
She rattled on with practiced certainty about the fictitious health benefits of thyme and geranium oils, how they promote fertility and whatnot.
"Thanks, Anna." You cut her off, reaching for the gift basket. You didn't intend to use any of it, but you could pawn it off on some struggling hunbot for less than they would buy it new.
Anna pulled the basket out of your reach. "Oh. I wasn't giving it to you."
Nothing surprised you anymore, and this was no exception. "I thought you said it was a gift?"
"Oh, god no." She shook her head. "This whole kit costs, like, five hundred dollars."
You grimaced. "So you came here to show me your snake oil collection?"
"I came here to tell you in person about this amazing business opportunity." She said, returning to her fake smile. "For just $1000, you can be part of this amazing company-"
"Anna, what am I studying right now?" You cut her off.
She looked at you with round, clueless eyes. She looked back at Liam for help. He tapped his head to give her a hint.
"I want to say..." her voice trailed off. "...brain surgery?"
You shook your head. "No. Liam?"
"Clinical psychology with a specialization in cults." He answered. "You want to be the next Steven Hassan."
Anna didn't deserve Liam.
"So you're saying you're too smart for me?" Anna said, crossing her arms. "You're too busy going to your fancy college, living with your fancy boyfriend to support your own sister's hustle?"
"I'm saying you're in a cult." You countered. "A pretty obvious one, at that."
"Oh, when your only solution is a hammer every problem looks like a nail." She scoffed. "You think everything is a cult. Why can't you just be happy for me?"
"I'll be happy for you when you accomplish something that isn't built off the backs of people you fucked over." You said, allowing yourself to finally snap.
Anna's jaw hung open. "Do I even need to gesture to this house? Those clothes? That degree? All paid for by your rich boyfriend."
It's time.
You stepped on to the porch and shut the door behind you. "Liam. I have something to tell you."
Liam handed the basket off to Anna and approached. "Alright."
"No she doesn't, Liam." Anna objected. "Don't listen to her. You know she's a liar."
"Liam." You said, looking into his eyes. "Do you remember Nathan Sparks?"
"Anna's ex from college?" Liam folded his arms and looked at his wife. "Vaguely."
Anna gritted her teeth at you. "I swear to fucking god, [F/N]-"
"Anna, stop." Liam cut her off. "Let her speak."
"Anna continued to see him for two years after you got together." You smirked.
Liam's dial-up internet brain sputtered to life.
"Oh my god." His mouth hung open. "...is he 'pineapple'?!"
"Nope." You said. "You are."
"Is this true, Anna?" Liam said, in the overlap between denial and anger. "Did you keep seeing Nathan after we got together?"
Anna threw the basket on the ground, jars shattering, releasing a noxious cloud of concentrated snake oil. She was too busy glaring daggers at you to answer her husband.
"Fine. Don't tell me." He spat, turning back to you. "I'll hear it from you, [F/N]. You're the only one in this family who's been honest with me."
"She only wanted to get with you because your uncle is CEO of that publishing house." You added. You felt bad for essentially rubbing salt in the wound, but he was right to assume he wouldn't hear it from anyone else.
He placed his hand over his head as if to nurse a migrane. "How could I be so stupid..."
"Liam-" Anna said, her voice jumping a few octaves.
Liam put up his hand. "I don't want to hear it."
"I'm sorry, Lee." You offered. Even though you loved seeing Anna caught, you felt bad for every person she victimized along the way. Liam was no exception.
He dropped his shoulders and sighed. "Thank you, [F/N]. I'll be out of your way, now. Anna--"
He stopped himself, presumably to avoid saying something he would regret. "...find your own way home."
He shoved his hands into his pockets and walked away, leaving Anna with you.
"Thanks for coming." You sneered at her, feeling around behind you for the door handle. "I'd call an uber if I were you."
"You twisted bitch." She scowled, hands hovering in your direction. "You just get off on ruining people's lives, don't you?"
"Oof, that's some serious projection, Anna." You said, unconsciously untying the belt of your robe and pulling it off your shoulders.
"You're-" She sputtered, her eyes growing to the size of personal pizzas. "You're fucking pregnant?!"
Shit. You thought, cycling through whatever braincells you had left for an idea of how to play this off as if you meant to do it.
"Surprise." You shrugged. Yeah, that would work.
"That's impossible!" She stammered. "You're- you're not even married!"
"Grandma never said anything about marriage." You grinned.
Anna struggled to find her words. "That is unfair!"
"So now that you're not winning, the game is unfair?" You raised an eyebrow.
She pursed her lips and pointed at you. "You aren't going to get away with this."
"Just like you didn't get away with cheating on your husband?" You taunted.
"I'm serious, [F/N]." Anna said, backing down the porch steps. "I will destroy everything you love just like you did to me."
For a half a second, the voice in your head told you to beware, that the threat should be taken seriously. Upon remembering it was coming from Anna, you pushed the thought from your mind.
You shouldn't have.

there are children present (pt. 1)
doctor! ushijima wakatoshi x doctor! reader
ushijima is was your typical pediatrician at the miyagi health clinic
the only difference is he’s 6′2 and very beefy which is pretty funny when he’s surrounded by kid-size furniture everyday
his rough exterior scares his patients at times but everyone in the pediatrics department knows he’s a real softie on the inside
everyone until y/n joins the pediatrics team at the miyagi health clinic
on her first day of work, y/n lost her way around the big building
she looked in all directions hoping someone would see her confused stares and help a poor girl out
luckily ushijima spotted the girl while she was looking down at her phone, seeing the message her supervisor had sent her yesterday about the wing she would be working in
however, in y/n’s eyes, seeing a giant walking towards her with an intimidating aura made the girl shiver in her hospital clogs
as ushijima grew closer to her, she flinched in fear, and began chanting words along the lines of “pls spare me”
when ushijima saw her visibly shaking in his presence, his face morphed into one of confusion
in his mind he was questioning do I really scare people that much
he took a deep breath and mustered up the most gentle, nurturing voice he could to speak to the woman
“I apologize if I startled you, it was never my intention. you just looked lost and I thought you would need some of my assistance” ushijima said shyly
y/n feels terrible having misjudged his intentions and forms a look of guilt on her face after hearing him speak to her, having a minor yachi panicking moment
“I’m so sorry, I’m just nervous around new people. I would greatly appreciate some help finding my way to the pediatrics department please. I would hate to be late on my first day” y/n responds while craning her neck upwards to look at the tower man
ushijima nods, letting out a quiet “follow me” as he led her to the department he works in everyday
as they arrive to the pediatrics department, y/n is in awe at the miniature chairs and table fit for toddlers, chalkboard cluttered with doodles, and small toys in the waiting area
suddenly she hears the receptionist greet ushijima from the counter
“ahh hello yamagata, I see you came into the office earlier than usual today” ushijima replies stoically, proceeding to scan his card into the door, allowing him access to the department
y/n begins to question how he has access to the pediatrics department, believing he worked in a different department and only helped to guide her to where she needed to go
as she goes in, she is greeted by her supervisor
however, she did not expect for her supervisor to be a grumpy old man with the bushiest eyebrows she has ever seen
“hello, you must be y/n. I am your supervisor tanji washijou. I see you have met our top pediatrician, Dr. Ushijima Wakatoshi” the elder greeted the poor girl whose soul has suddenly left her body
not only did she misjudge ushijima when he was trying to help her, he’s also her coworker
“you will be assigned a nurse who will be your partner working here. your patients are now their patients, so it’s best to get to know your nurse as you will have to work together to help the patients that come in” washijou continues
the girl nods as she follows washijou down a long hall to an office area where she sees the room section off into cubicles that are labeled with a name plate for each pediatrician
y/n spots the cubicle that has her name plastered on one of its walls and walks towards it
“I see you have found your cubicle, this is where you will work when you have no appointments, whether it’s looking at documents and analyzing test results, all that will happen in here” washijou explains
y/n nods signifying that she understood the elder’s words and began looking around her cubicle, imagining the personal items she may store here to make it feel cozier
washijou brings her out of her thoughts as he walks out the door, informing the young woman that he will be bringing her assigned nurse to her cubicle so they could get to know one another.
as y/n is unpacking her work bag, she hears the door open which causes her to see who is entering office area
she sees two men walking towards her, one immensely tall and the other shorter in comparison to the giant he stands next to
the shorter male has noticeable ash blonde hair with darker tips, although he looks tough, she notices a comforting aura surrounding him which makes her less frightened than her previous encounters
the taller male, for sure intimidated the poor new girl he’s 6′2 with dark ginger hair and although he is on the lankier side, his resting face is what causes the girl to avoid his piercing stare
as they stop in front of the girl, she realizes these are the nurses that have been assigned to her
“hello, my name is semi eita. I am a registered nurse who has been here for a few years. I look forward to getting to know you and working along side you” the shorter male introduces himself
y/n notices his gentle, deep voice that has put her in a calmer state as she replies “good morning, I am y/n y/l/n, I am excited to work with you as well and hope we can build a closer bond as we work alongside one another”
noticing the poor girl fiddling with her fingers as she glances at his taller counterpart, semi begins once again, “this is kawanishi taichi, he is currently fulfilling his residency requirements under my supervision, so he will also be working fairly close beside you”
“I look forward to working with you” kawanishi speaks for the first time in his lazy tone while bowing to the girl
“thank you, I hope to provide a good learning experience for you” y/n responds, bowing back to the tall boy
soon, the door is being opened again, and y/n sees ushijima walking in with a tall red head wearing blue scrubs
“I’m just saying wakatoshi-kun, the content within the jump magazines are more amusing than the ads” the tall red head asserts
ushijima nods and then approaches the trio standing at y/n’s cubicle
“hello Dr. y/l/n, this is my nurse tendou satori. I apologize, he’s a little bit on the loud side” ushijima says quite bluntly
“wakatoshi-kun, that’s very harsh to say. I’m hurt” tendou replies
y/n giggles before responding back, “pleasure to meet you tendou, I hope to be able to get to know you better while working in the same department with you”
the rest of the day was spent with the five getting to know each other due to the slow day in the office and none of them having any appointments for the day
during the next few months, y/n is forming close bonds with those she met on her first day (minus washijou) and adjusting to her job phenomenally
getting to know her patients, noting all their symptoms, and diagnosing them in a fairly quick manner
leading her to be fairly popular in the office as many parents are bringing their children to her office
ushijima, although very efficient in analyzing his patients’ records and diagnosing his patients very quickly, struggles with communicating to them in a manner that would not scare them off
especially today, when one toddler in particular was not fond of his scary appearance
the little boy had walked into the checkup room, holding his mother’s hand
his bangs cut in a slant direction (they’re basically uneven and looks like the hypotenuse of a triangle, I suck with descriptions so I’m hoping you all know I'm talking about shirabu LOL)
when tendou walked in to take the child’s temperature and blood pressure, the child was struggling to remain calm as a towering red headed male with crazy eyes kept looking at him dead on
after taking the necessary data on the child, tendou says quite animatedly “alright shirabu, Dr. Ushijima will be with you shortly, make yourself comfortable and help yourself to some books in the bucket”
shirabu’s mother hands him a little book which leads him to flipping through the pages and pointing at the cute animals within it
once an a while having to blow his uneven bangs out his eyes
all of a sudden the door opens and when shirabu looks up, his whole face pales and tears begin gathering in his eyes
to shirabu, a giant, mean looking man stands in front of him, ready to yell at him, kill him, or anything horrible in-between
before ushijima could let a word out, shirabu begins to sob loudly on the examination table
ushijima stops walking towards shirabu, as his mom reaches out to console him
as shirabu’s mother is trying to comfort him and tell him how ushijima is here to make sure he's healthy, shirabu continues to sob louder and repeatedly scream “but he’s so scary”
ushijima freezes on the spot
usually when children are frightened of him their parents are able to calm them down
but shirabu is relentless and stubbornly continues to cry to his little toddler bum’s desire
ushijima excuses himself from the room, stating that he will be back shortly, shutting the door behind him
outside the examination room, ushijima was silently panicking
why was I cursed with such a big body
why do people always think my facial expression is scary, it’s just my resting face
I’m not mad at least 98% of the time
I just want the kids to feel safe and comfortable to tell me their problems so I can fix them as fast as possible :(
as he was having an internal conversation with himself, y/n walks by and notices the distress on his face
she begins to grow concern for the man, she’s grown to know as a giant teddy bear
yes she caught feels for him within the past few months
semi and kawanishi never let her live it down, making it their mission to fluster her on the subject at least once a day
she walks over to the conflicted giant, but not before noticing the three nurses around the corner staring at her with a smirk on each of their faces
ofc tendou is in that upside down position (y'all know which one I’m talking about)
rolling her eyes at her three spectators, she turned back to ushijima to deal with his internal crisis
“Ushijima, did you need help with something?” y/n asked as she approached him
“no, I do not understand why my latest patient is so afraid of me. I did not even get to speak a word before he started screaming. usually I at least get one word in” ushijima replies as the cries of shirabu could still be heard through the door
y/n winces at the boy’s shrill cries but is also impressed that it is able to resonate past the wooden door
“did you want me to try to talk to the patient first? hopefully, get him to ease into you” y/n offered
ushijima nodded curtly, handing y/n the patient’s information which she glances over fairly quick
y/n takes a deep breath and opens the door, which causes the cries to come at a higher volume
shirabu opens his eyes after hearing the door open, thinking the scary tall man came back to kill him only to be greeted by a smaller woman with gentle eyes
the child halts his cries, but the tears keep falling silently
y/n grabs some tissues from the counter and wipes the poor boy’s face which is red from all his sobs
she crouches down to the boy’s height and smiles gently at him
“hey little guy, I’m Dr. y/l/n. I heard you’re being a brave little boy visiting the doctor today” y/n speaks in a nurturing voice
shirabu nods shyly, still tucked away in his mother’s arms
“I promise you Dr. Ushijima is nothing you should be scared of, he’s the best doctor in the building who will help you feel better” y/n explains gently to the boy who shakes his head in his mother’s shoulder
“he’s giant and scary” shirabu speaks for the first time while fiddling with his smol bby fingers
“I'll let you in on a secret little guy” y/n whispers towards shirabu
being the curious child he is, shirabu lets go of his mother and scoots his little bum towards the edge of the examination table to listen in on the secret
“Dr. Ushijima looks scary, but he’s really gentle and soft. just think of him as a soft teddy bear because really that's all he is” y/n whispers making the little boy giggle thinking of the tall mean doctor dressed as a soft bear
“with that said, will you be okay to see Dr. Ushijima now?” y/n asks
shirabu nods with the picture of his doctor dressed as a bear freshly engraved into his mind
y/n nods and bows to shirabu’s mother before stepping out of the examination room to fetch the giant pediatrician
“he’s ready to see you now, he might actually be very excited” y/n informs ushijima
ushijima nods, takes a deep breath, and walks into the room shirabu is in
shirabu look up to the tall doctor, eyes still slightly glassy from his previous crying session
although he is still shaking in his child boots (shoes? sneakers? whatever shoes your heart desires)
he refrains from screaming out, imagining the big man as a teddy bear like he has been for the past couple minutes
“hello, I am Dr. Ushijima and I am here to help you fix your problems” the giant doctor voices out, still nervous on the inside
after half and hour of speaking to shirabu, ushijima concludes that the poor boy just jammed his fingers and just needs to tape them
“may I ask what you were doing that caused you to jam your fingers?” ushijima asks gently
the boy shakily replies “I was setting the volleyball to my friend but my timing was off”
ushijima eyes light up at the mention of volleyball as he ask incredulously, “you play volleyball?”
the child nods timidly as ushijima gets a glint in his eyes that is unfamiliar to the poor boy
“I played in high school, I was a wing spiker” ushijima replies causing the child’s eyes to also light up
“really, that’s so cool. I’ve been watching old clips from high school nationals and the wing spiker on shiratorizawa is amazing. he has so much power, I wish to set for him someday” shirabu rambles before he looks at ushijima and recognizes him from the videos he’s been watching
“WOAH YOU WERE THE ACE OF SHIRATORIZAWA FROM THE VIDEOS I WATCHED?!?” shirabu exclaims with stars shining in his eyes
ushijima chuckles and hums a positive answer causing the little boy to spitfire questions to the man such as:
how many points did you score each game?
did you ever break the floor with your serve?
has anyone ever broken a bone from your deadly spike?
shirabu’s mom began to scold shirabu for bombarding ushijima with too many questions making the poor toddler bow his head in shame and slap his chubby cheeks with his own hands as a self-punishment
ushijima seeing the poor inflict pain on himself began to panic and continuously ask the boy to stop hurting himself
“I would love to answer your questions sometime but I have a patient coming in 20 minutes but feel free to contact me through my email or phone number on the clinic website if you want to continue talking about volleyball. I see you have a great interest for it” ushijima says making shirabu look up adorned with red cheeks and starry eyes
shirabu nods eagerly asking his mom to help him use the computer when he gets home so he can talk to ushijima
“I also wouldn't mind coaching you on my off days.  I haven’t played volleyball in a long time so please toss for me sometime” ushijima says crouching down to the shirabu’s height and giving him a small smile
said boy squeals in excitement and claps his little hands together
“THANK YOU SO MUCH DR. USHIJIMA” shirabu exclaims, going in and giving ushijima a hug
shirabu’s mom could definitely be heard in the background lecturing shirabu on his manners and personal space
but ushijima doesn’t mind
in fact, he is touched that a patient feels so comfortable with him and enjoys his presence
releasing himself from shirabu’s hug he then speaks, “well then I’ll be off, I hope to hear from you soon”
shirabu hops off the examination table and bows to the tall man and exclaims, “yes, thank you for everything, doctor”
shirabu grabs his mother’s hand and leaves the room as ushijima holds the door open for them
as ushijima walks into the office room, he sees y/n typing reports on the computer
he approaches her and taps her shoulder causing the poor girl to jump in her seat
“I apologize for startling you, I just wanted to thank you for helping me calm down shirabu earlier” ushijima shows his gratitude
“it’s no big deal, I'm glad to be of use to the best pediatrician in the whole unit” y/n replies with a smile on her face
ushijima then notices his heart beat quickening and thumping louder than normal
he believes that anyone could hear its rapid beat without requiring a stethoscope

The Cat’s Meow - Jumin Han x Fem!Reader Pt 10
This is a slightly older chapter and kind of basic.
Part 10: Confirmation
It’s been a month since the Christmas incident and we’re going into February. I make a point to see Jumin less, to my inner hatred. I also have to make an active attempt at keeping any personal time with Jumin to a minimum. I’m sure he’s noticed but hasn’t pointed out my poorly imagined excuses yet. Still, my heart beats a little faster when I see his name pop up on my cell phone.
I’m writing down the details of my client’s pet when Corine, my secretary, pokes her head into the room.
                “_____, you’ve got a call.”
“Oh, okay. Put them on hold, I’ll be there in just a minute.”
I quickly put down the rest of the details and place the cat in one of the kennels before heading to the front to take the call.
                “Dr. _____ speaking,” I answer.
                “Hello _____.”
His smooth voice almost catches me off guard. “Hello Jumin. What’s up?”
“Elizabeth the 3rd’s appointment is tomorrow,” he states bluntly.
                “Yeah, I know. And?”
“Could you, perhaps, do it at my house?”
It takes a moment for me to process the information. “I’m sorry, what?”
“I really don’t want to take the risk of losing her again. You understand right?”
I sigh, rubbing my eyes. “I don’t know, Jumin. That’s a lot of work. Especially if she needs shots.”
                “Please, _____.”
I have a hard time resisting people with pets, despite my better judgment. “Fine, but it’s not going to be cheap.”
                “Deal.”
“And it’s going to have to wait until I get off work tomorrow.”
“That’s alright. I’ve got work in the morning anyways.”
“Alright. I’ll text you my price tonight and see you tomorrow.”
                “Thank you, _____. You’re amazing.”
                “You bet I am.”
                “See you tomorrow.”
“See ya.” I hang the phone up and let out the longest sigh. As sharp as she was, Corine catches that.
“Problems in Loveland with the rich company heir?”
I give her a small scowl. “We’re not dating. But I am making my first at-home appointment.”
                “What?”
“Jumin asked me to do his cat’s appointment at his house.”
                “And you agreed?”
“He agreed to pay more. Will you pull up Elizabeth the 3rd’s file so I know what I’ll need to take with me?”
                “Alright, hun.”
                “Thanks Corine.”
As I walk away, I hear her laugh about the cat’s name just as everyone in the office always does.
I spend the whole day on my feet. If I’m not taking care of clients, I’m collecting and double checking the bag I’ll be taking to Jumin’s. It doesn’t help that I have to keep chasing away worries of the darker side of Jumin.
The work day ends and I send Jumin a text as I leave the clinic. He answers rather quickly, confirming he’s waiting, so I change course to head to his place.
“Welcome, Dr. _____,” the chief of security greets. “Mr. Han is waiting for you.”
“Thank you,” I return, heading inside and ignoring the light feeling in my chest.
Jumin is in the living room area with his cat on his lap. “Hello, _____.”
“Hey Jumin.” I set my bag on the kitchen counter and start with laying out a sterile sheet and taping it down. “How’s your day been?”
“Tiring. My father has a new girlfriend and wants me to pick up a business he started since he wants to spend some time with her.”
“That sucks. You must be really busy then.”
                “How was your day?”
“Pretty normal, other than a house call I have to do,” I retort with a bit of a smile. “Yeah. Other than that, pretty normal.”
“Glad I could bring a bit of surprise to your life,” he says teasingly. The white cat seems perfectly content despite being placed on this new surface.
“Just about anything with you involved is a surprise in my life,” I mumble.
The man gives me a strange look. “What’s that mean?”
“I mean, since I met you, things are definitely a bit more exciting,” I tell him, trying not to think about the night after the party. “The way we met was completely unconventional. The first time we hung out you spent a night in my waiting room while I dealt with an emergency. I planned a cat-themed birthday for a full-grown man. The paparazzi are constantly trying to get something on us. How is our relationship normal in any way, Jumin?”
“Point taken.” The man strides further into the kitchen. “Would you like a drink?”
I hesitate, a lump forming in my throat. “Thank you, but that wouldn’t be very professional of me while I’m working.”
“Right. I forgot.” I didn’t think it was possible for a smile to make me happy and nervous at the same time. “Perhaps afterwards.”
“Actually, I have to get home to take care of Mako,” I reply with the worst excuse.
“Oh, of course. How is that strange little cat?”
I do a routine checkup and give the cat a shot, which she wasn’t thrilled about, but forgives me pretty much instantly. As I’m cleaning up, the security guard comes in.
“Mr. Han, your father has come to visit.” He glances at me. “Shall I’ll tell him you’re busy with a visitor?”
Jumin glances at me and I speak up quickly. “Please, don’t let me interfere. I’m almost done here anyways.” In part, I’m thankful for a real excuse to get away from the alcohol.
                “No. He can wait.”
I brush it off, “Jumin, I’m pretty much on my way out anyways.”
With a strange expression, he turns back to his employee. “Send him in.”
Moments later, an older man slightly resembling Jumin comes into the room. “Hello Jumin. I-” The man notices me. “Oh, I see you already have guests.”
I interrupt, “Pay me no mind. I was just packing up.” As customary of polite strangers, I offer him my hand. “I’m Dr. _____ _____. I just came by to do a checkup on Elizabeth the 3rd.”
“So you’re the vet that found my son’s cat and gave him a good scolding,” the man chuckles, shaking my hand.
I rub my eyes with a sigh. “Yeah. That’s me.”
“Well hopefully since then, he’s taken more precaution. He must be since you’re here.”
“She’s in excellent health.” I turn to the son. “You’ll call my secretary tomorrow to settle the bill, right?”
“Of course. I can’t ditch a bill if and expect to receive the same expert veterinary care next time,” he retorts. “Besides how could you ever doubt me?”
I laugh. “Right. With all the money in the world, why would Jumin Han ever have a reason to skip out on a bill?”
                He beams. “Exactly.”
“Alright. I’ll talk to you later, Jumin.” I look to the older man. “It was a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Han.”
                “Likewise, Dr. _____.”
I give a brief wave and head for the exit. Just before the door completely clicks shut, I hear Jumin’s father speak again. Unable to help myself, I pause.
“A smart woman,” he comments. “Beautiful too. A shame she has nothing else to offer a husband.” Instantly, a frown crosses my face.
“You don’t know her,” growls Jumin.
“I don’t need to. She’s clearly not fit for the corporate world. So I must insist that you cut back on providing the paparazzi evidence of your relationship.”
“First of all, the paparazzi will turn anything into ‘evidence of a relationship.’ At the rate they’re going, I might as well be dating Assistant Kang. Second, I don’t care if they think we’re in a relationship because as far as I’m concerned, I’m going to marry that woman one day.”
My heart stops and I nearly black out.
                “You what?!”
                “You heard me.”
“Jumin, she’s not fit to be your wife! Let alone someone who could help you run the company! She brings nothing to the relationship!”
                “That’s enough!”
“She can only bring your future down! The paparazzi will tear her apart, break her down until she can’t take it anymore! If you don’t grow up in our world, you can’t handle the stress! She’s far too different from you, Jumin! She doesn’t belong with you! She will ruin your life! And I will not let that girl bring down my company or my son!”
At that point, I step away from the door and head for the elevator, the corporate leader’s words blaring through my head. I decline the security employee’s offer for a ride home and keep walking.
Why do I care? Why does it bother me? He’s right after all. I can’t help Jumin, let alone in his career. We’re just too different. I don’t care what he thinks. We’re friends. We’re just friends. I don’t love, Jumin Han. I do not love him!
Jumin’s threats of marriage replay in my head over and over until I just want to puke. I try for several hours to convince myself that I have never seen our relationship as anything more than friendship. I’ve been putting up barriers, more so lately, and trying to break it down so that there could be no doubt that we were only friends. But he’s been thwarting those efforts as if they meant nothing. The harder I push to remain just friends, the easier it seems for him to pull us towards a romantic relationship. However, it seems that there are more people that agree with me than I thought; important, powerful people. Probably no one could have struck down a relationship in my eyes like Jumin’s father. But now that I’m face with the fact that we really aren’t meant to be together, I almost want to take it all back.
Furious and annoyed and somewhat heartbroken, I dress up to go out, making my way to my favorite bar to drink for the wrong reasons.

Some Weeks Are Better Than Others Pt. 7
*Part 1* *Part 2* *Part 3* *Part 4* *Part 5*  *Part 6*
(I hope I can still call you mine...”)
M’Baku x Reader
Word Count: 6.5k
Plot:  You and M’Baku have to be apart for a business trip you are taking.  Leaving him sucks for you both, but career is important and he supports.  But the trip is a lot more than a test of your value to your job, but to your relationship as well.
*Previously*
“Well you just tell me when you want me gone, and I’m out.  But you’re getting a happy ending tonight, no doubt.”  You giggle, “You’d like that huh?”  “He stares at you, leaning in, “I really would though.”  You feel something you haven’t felt in what seemed like an eternity.  Something reserved for M’Baku, only achieved by him.  But here you are, in heat with someone else.  “Pass me that bottle then.”  you say.  The next morning you wake up in a daze in your hotel room.  The sun’s rays blind you as they seep in greeting you.  You sit up as the sheets wrap around your bare skin, cool and calming.  A note is on the pillow next to you.  You pick it up and read:  Thanks for the good time last night. A phone number followed.  Your heart dropped as you thought over last night.  Bar, club, and then that guy.  Oh shit, you thought as you looked at your nakedness underneath the covers.
M’Baku kept replaying the scenario over and over in his head.  He came in and went upstairs while Keni went to the restroom. Then he sees a woman sorting his clothes in his drawer -- that woman being his own mother.  After he shoos her down the stairs and gets her to leave, you call him and say to ask who he has at his house. M’Baku couldn’t get past it, it didn’t make sense that you knew a woman was in the house that quickly.  M’Baku knew you were a force to be reckoned with investigatively, but this was practically impossible.
M’Baku makes a call to Keni’s legal friend to get some assistance on the boot on his car.  Luckily they could see him tomorrow to get the situation corrected, so that was one less thing that he would  have to think about. The rest of the night was open to him to do whatever he needed before going out tonight.  Akoje and the other Jabari could party for any reason: breakups, getting laid, new job, leaving a bad one, clinic test was negative, just about anything would have a glass raised to.
But, M’Baku couldn’t stop thinking about you.   As he sat in his newly cleaned living room thanks to Mama, his heart was not in for a jovial get-together.  He flips through the TV channels without actually paying attention to the images flashing before him. His arm rests across the back of the couch, rubbing the material subconsciously.  You have been mad at him before, but this sounded different. You usually lay out everything M’Baku did wrong before giving a silent treatment to make him feel bad and grovel in apologies.  But you never accused M’Baku of Infidelity before. Even women walking down the street ogling him outright just made you hold him a little tighter and kiss him or do something to really give them something to stare at.
Now, M’Baku has heard at least ten thousand times how much you hate to know of him working with beautiful women; stretching them, squatting, touching them for any reason.  But M’Baku reassured the relationship was secure everytime you fussed. The paycheck was great, he is doing something he enjoys, and comes home to you on time, every night.
M’Baku’s heart deflates as he stares at his phone.  He was mad initially at your tone but that quickly dissipated when he rewound the hurt in your voice over and over in his head.  This can’t be happening.
Later that night, M’Baku rechecks himself in the mirror.  A white collared button down shirt, tucked into some black high-water type slacks and some brown oxfords; it took little to no effort for him to look good in clothes.  Adding accessories of a watch and gold chain you gave him for you guys’ second anniversary, it was about time to head out. M’Baku pours out a drink to the halfway portion of his glass with brown liquor on ice before heading to the balcony.  Leaning on the rail he sips slow staring at the city lights scattered across the city. How many nights did he do this same thing before you would rub his back and whisper something that would always get him to come to bed on command. He missed you terrible as he downed his drink a little faster;  this was his fifth glass, and being a big guy, the alcohol was not hitting his system as quickly as his emotions were. A honk comes from downstairs and he sees Akoje waving from his Navigator.
“Oh, Lonely Ape-Man, let down your hair!  We have come to rescue you from your strife!”
M’Baku raises his empty glass to his Jabari, “Good Evening, enyi !”
The doors open and out pops Enache and Ogoro.  “GREAT GORILLA KING!!” They say in unison. M’Baku laughs heartily for the first time in what felt like months.  The alcohol might be starting to circulate, but he was far from where he wanted to be.
Riding down to the club, M’Baku and crew shout and hop in their seats as their jams blasted on full.
“Aye. M’Baku!  It is about time we finally got you outta the house man.  Your house arrest bracelet just die on you, or something?”  Enache howls at himself as the other join.
Akoje looks back at Enache in the rearview as he drives, “Nah, That’s not it at all.  Our man is having troubles at home, needs us to take his mind off of things.” Akoje claps a hand on M’Baku’s shoulder, who feels a little embarrassed as soon as he hears it.
“Ohhh, Kukie!  How do you have problems without a woman in the house?  Isn’t that when it is supposed to be more peaceful?” Ogoro asks.
M’Baku cranes his neck to reply, “Has your life been peaceful since you have been an adult?  Because I cannot recall the last time a woman shared a space with you in a intimate setting.”
The guys laugh at Ogoro, fueled by M’Baku’s burn.
“Ahhh, Baku, you’re not right for that!  I am selective about the queen I choose.”  Ogoro explains.
“Selections are not bad to have, but why must they be so….thin!  You want women who have no calorie intake and burn it off just as fast.  Grab a stick outside to rub, it’d be perfect.” Akoje chimes in.
Enache claps his hands with joy, “OH, yes.  That is foul, enyi , but accurate.  Brother, if you can’t handle the curves of a voluptuous partner, at least get someone who is concentrated in one area...or another.”  He mimes his hands in front of his chest, and brings one hand down in a motion to shape a booty cheek.
Akoje offers his hand for a high five from Enache, “That’s it!  Ogoro, you and M’Baku, I can’t get past how you are with women.”
“What’s wrong with me?  My woman has...EVERYTHING I could ask for; mind and body.”
“See?  That alone is a problem.  You said mind first!”
“I can’t stand the empty headed women your circulate, Akoje.  They can’t even talk about the weather properly.” M’Baku hisses.
“It does not matter.  I’m not looking for conversation, I’m looking some eye candy, that is down for a good time.”
M’Baku shakes his head, “And how these American women fall for it over and over, is beyond me.”
Akoje smiles, sitting up a bit straighter, “See, I put my accent on a little bit thicker than usual, eh?  Then I just tell them that they would be a queen back where I’m from, your feet would never touch the ground, etc.  Make them feel like commitment is no problem for you.”
“HAHAHA!  That is the punchline.”  M’Baku guffaws.
“I am committed Kukie.  Pleasure is always a commitment and I have no complaints from anybody!”
They make it to the club which appears to be at its prime at the moment.  Everybody is lining up, chatting with their friends to make sure they have their fit straight, makeup on point, everything did.
Scoping the crowd, Akoje rubs his hands together Birdman style, “Gentlemen, follow me, I got an in with the bouncer.”  M’Baku and the the others bark in excitement as they walk up to the front of the line. Akoje signals for them to fall back a bit while he talks to the bouncer.
M’Baku starts to get suspicious when he notices the bouncers stance and expression has not changed since before Akoje started talking to him.
“Ahh!  Akoje doesn’t know him!  The club will be closing up by the time we make it through the line.”  Ogoro complains.
Enache shoves him, “Enough of that!  He said he had us, he’s got us. Have you-”
Ogoro interrupts, “If you end that sentence with, ‘Have you ever known him to lie to us’ after the endless examples he has of doing such, Hanuman help me, my foot will be going up your-”
“Jabari!  We have gained entrance!  Come!” Akoje announce waving them through as he steps into the club.
Enache leads the party to the bouncer.  Attempting to pass him, the man stiff arms him.
“Aight, 30 a pop.”
“$30???  We know Akoje though, he said he had us!”  M’Baku perks up.
The meat headed bounce slowly shakes his head,  “Akoje gets in free, he didn’t mention friends before now.”
“You have got to be kidding me,”  Ogoro exasperates.
“Hey, if you don’t like it, just go somewhere else, or wait in line like all these other waitin ass muthafuckas.  $30, or walk.”
They grumble as they dig in their wallets and line up to pay the man.
“Man, I’m only going to be able to get a water after that mess.”  Ogoro moans.
M’Baku, claps him on the shoulder, “I need a drinking partner.  We will cover you, Brother, no problem.”
M’Baku looks expectantly at Enache who is on his phone.  “Akoje said he is by a reserved spot...by the right side.  Can’t miss it, he said.”
Walking through the area, Akoje is double fisting some bottles, cigar in his mouth.
“Eh!  You can’t smoke inside, man!”  Ogoro exclaims.
Akoje cocks his head to the side, taking it from his mouth, still holding the bottles.  “It’s not lit, mother! Please, be the first to grab a glass because you certainly need it, sir.”  Enache passes the tumblers around as Akoje fills them up like he’s Diddy.
Akoje bellows, “Raise our glasses gentlemen!  To life, to lust, to liquor. May it all find us tonight!”  The men bark as they chug their drinks. M’Baku chugs his, screwing his face up as the brown warns his throat.  It wasn’t the alcohol bothering him though, but Akoje’s toast. Lust was the last thing on his mind as far as debauchery, since you weren’t here and especially since you were mad.
The night powers on as the jams circulate, moving the crowd.  The Jabari became almost the life of the party as they sang along hyping the crowd, dancing with women.  M’Baku watched from a far but laughed his ass off at the guys getting lit, especially Ogoro’s wet blanket self.  Enough liquor had finally hit him to put caution to the wind.
Akoje comes up to M’Baku holding his phone to his ear, “I’ll be back, Fat Man, in case the others wonder.”  M’Baku nods as Akoje swiftly maneuvers the crowd toward the entrance,
M’Baku leans back in the curved couch, head resting as the alcohol courses through him.  He feels tingles in in his extremities, a sign the limit is about to hit, but the night was still far from over.
M’Baku feels a couple slaps on the side of his face.  Raising his head, M’Baku squints through his heavy lids to see a grinning Akoje.   “Hey man, look who showed up to keep us company.”
Looking behind him, he sees a woman walking up the steps to their couch.
“Who the hell is that?”  M’Baku slurs as he sits up studying her as she switched toward you.  Smiling, she flips her wavy tresses behind her shoulder, standing with her hip poked out.  The bodycon dress hugged any and every curve her body had to show; titties gathered and presented at full mast.  Licking her lips she turns to Akoje.
“Thank you for inviting me to come out with you guys,”  she says. M’Baku gets caught up in her frame, sobers up a bit quicker than expected.
“No problem, love.  The party is just getting good too.  Go ahead and pour yourself a glass.” Akoje sits by M’Baku, slapping his knee.  “She cleans up well, yeah? No surprise with a body like that though.”
She bends over to pour her into her glass on the table, giving the guys a full view of her behind.
M’Baku leans over to Akoje talking sideways, “Why does that ass seem familiar to me, ‘Je?”
Akoje busts out laughing, “Oh man, you really have had too much to drink.  That’s your girl!”
M’Baku shakes his head, pinching the bridge of his nose.  “Here man, drink this. You must be losing your buzz. We don’t need no headaches tonight.”
M’Baku takes Akoje’s glass and downs the contents.  M’Baku winces at the heat that hits his chest, beating it with his fist.
Their additional party member sits next to M’Baku resting a hand on his knee firmly with a rub.  “You glad to see me?” she whispers in his ear.
M’Baku leans back to look at her.  At this point he has drank so much that an aura halo has formed around her silhouette making it hard to distinctly focus on her features.
“I...don’t know.” M’Baku turns back to Akoje.  “That is not, (Y/N), what are you talking about?”  Akoje rolls his eyes, “You really are going insane, eh?  Talk to her!” Akoje says grabbing the top of M’Baku’s head and rotating it towards the girl.
“You don’t recognize me?  Shit, I tried dressing up too damn nice then, I guess.”  She looks down at herself, running her hand down her torso.  M’Baku’s eyes follow, balling his hand up in a fist to keep it from wandering.
She laughs, pushing his arm as she takes a long gulp of her drink.  The music changes, making her rock and snap with the beat.
“Ohhhh, shit!  Mk, DJ givin me my shit tonight!”  She stands up swaying her hips to the music.  “Ok, Baku. Let’s see if this sparks your memory.”  Body rolling she goes into a running man dance, titties hopping and dangerously close to spilling out.  Next she drops and gets her eagle on, squatting and popping her ass towards M’Baku.
Akoje stands to hype her up, “Aye! Aye!  Go on, girl! Handle that, Kukie!” Laughing his ass off as he makes his way back down to the dance floor.
“Wait, wait, Keni!  What are you doing-”  M’Baku starts to speak but Keni’s body comes hurdling backwards toward him as she loses her balance, falling into his lap.  M’Baku catches her, gripping her waist as she laughs, catching her breath, “Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry M’Baku! At least you remember me now; I knew that would jog your memory.”  Keni twists to look into his face, flipping her hair back. She bites her lips as she stares at M’Baku, completely in heat for him. M’Baku is still trying to hold his liquor consumption properly to stave off her advances,
M’Baku attempts sitting up, “Ah, Keni, I need to-”
“You aren’t going, are you?  The night just begun baby!” She says caressing his beard greedily.
“I’m just going to the bathroom, please.  Sit and enjoy yourself. My friends would really like your company I think.”  M’Baku lifts her up off of him as he goes towards the back of the club.
Once he makes it by the restrooms, he pulls out his phone to check his notifications.  Emails, reminders, news, but no you. M’Baku heaves a deep breath, holding it in as he raises his arms above his head.  All he wanted to do was bash the walls in, but instead he lets go of his breath, leaning his fists and head on the bricks.  He couldn’t imagine what you were doing right now. Were you hurting? You were in a city with no one you knew, who could comfort you right now?  He couldn’t wait for you to come home. Things will be better when you get back to town, he knew it; y’all could hash out all of what did and didn’t happen.
A hand snakes his shoulder; turning, Keni is leaning with her shoes in her hands.  “You left me by myself. I couldn’t find you.”
M’Baku looks at her concerned, “You’re drunk already?”
Keni puts a finger to her lips, “Shooosh.  I know it’s not in the diet plan but it’s CHEAT DAY!”  She exclaims raising her hands in the air before, falling onto M’Baku with her hands around his neck.  “You know cheating ain’t so bad. Long as you honest with yourself, and really enjoy it…” Keni slurs, poking her lips out at M’Baku, who swiftly pushes her face back with his palm.
“I have a whole woman that I claim, already Keni.  You’re doing too much, you need to go home.”
She smiles, standing awkwardly, “YOU need to take ME home with YOU!”  She points back and forth between you, offbeat with what she said.
M’Baku takes her arm to lead her out.  “Did you drive or ride with someone?”
Keni scoffs as she drags along, “Don’t worry bout that, long as I ride them thighs later, bruh!”
M’Baku sighed as his buzz diminishes quickly with the night air.  “You got your keys?”
Keni opens her clutch to rifle through.  Pulling out a roll of condoms, she hands them to M’Baki, “Hold on to these, we need ‘em.”  M’Baku holds a corner of them disgusted, “I don’t need these; I have a woman, I say.”
Keni pulls out her keys, shaking her hands, “I KNOW!  The girl got a sixth sense for women being in your house, I swear.”
M’Baku pauses when he hears this.  “What do you mean by that, Keni?”
Keni hands the keys and starts walking off kilter.  “She called and I picked up and I was like OOPS, hung up.  Then ya mama came and called me a hoe; why you got such rude females around you?”
“That was when you came to my house?  My phone rang and you picked up?” M’Baku asks piecing the sequence of events together.
“Like I said, she sound rude as fuck.  You need someone to keep you til she get back, I’m it!”  She does a power stance to portray herself as a catch: makeup smeared, hair disheveled, feet dirty from the streets.
M’Baku looked at her like she was crazy, “Tempting as that may be, it’s not something I am into, at all.  Did you park in that lot?”
Keni nods, leading him to the area. “Make it do the beep beep.”  she instructs him.
M’Baku punches the unlock button on the car remotes and sees it lighting up.  M’Baku trots over, getting in the driver’s side to start the engine up.
Keni goes to open the passenger door.  “You sit in the back.” M’Baku instructs.
Keni looks through her window, looking completely appalled.  Opening the backdoor and getting in, she says, “Come on, I wasn’t going to try and give you road head or anything.”
M’Baku shakes his head pulling out of the lot sighing heavily, “I just don’t want you to puke on me, but sure, that too.  Tell me your address.”
Keni giggles relaying the info, “Oh shit.”  The contents of her stomach hurl on across the backseat and M’Baku lets down the windows to try to let the stench air out.  Any attraction this lady may have possessed earlier in the evening had completely dissipated from M’Baku’s mindset, officially with the vomit.
Keni is crying now, “I didn’t want to do this.  I was supposed to be sexy!” M’Baku turns on the radio to be somewhat a distraction, occasionally asking her to calm down until he arrives at her place.  She lived on the third floor of an apartment building, so M’Baku had to work with her dead weight and his dehydration from all the liquor to get up the stairs.
Opening her door, he lays her down on her couch.  Going to her kitchen he finds a bucket and lays it on the floor nearest to her head.
As he goes to leave he hears her say, “M’Baku?”
He looks to God for strength as he goes over to her.  “You’re too good, you know? Like, amazing. Soooo, stay cute.”  She roughly pats the side of his face. “We will continue this another time!”
M’Baku puts her hand at her side and heads out the door.  “Not if I can help it.”
“See you at the gym!  I drank a lotta calories!”  she yells as you close the door.
M’Baku called an Uber out to pick him up.  Once he got home, the biggest wave of relief rushed over his body as he crashed on the couch.  Covering his face, he groans as the days events fill his thoughts, laughing to himself. M’Baku had never gotten that close to a client before, to see them at his home or after hours and he certainly understood why that could never happen again.  Keni put herself out there as a kind girl, and she was; helpful and sweet. But her true colors were let out tonight. He’d make sure she was off his roster of clients immediately. There was no way they could work together again after this.
M’Baku looks at his phone and pulls up your number.  He calls you, waiting for you to pick up with every ring but it goes to voicemail.  It was late, but he hoped you would wake up to talk. Unless you were still mad. He leaves a message for you.
“Hello, my love.  I just wanted to hear your voice, but I wanted to explain something so hopefully you will listen now.  The woman you heard, was not someone I am involved with; she is, or, was a client from my job. She helped me with a ride home after the car got booted, which is probably a better reason to be mad at me but it will be corrected by the time you return.”  M’Baku says in an apologetic rush. “She picked up my phone by accident, and I know this may sound strange, but my mom made a surprise visit during, and swiftly bashed her, and defended you, believe it or not.” He laughs tiredly. “Baby, I didn’t and will never seek attention from someone else as long as I can call you mine.”  He pauses a moment before his voice cracks. “I hope I can still call you mine. I miss you, I love you. Call me as soon as you get this. I can’t wait for you to come home.” The automatic message says M’Baku ran to long and gives him the option to save it or delete it. M’Baku saves it, hoping it was enough to get you all talking again.
Tired again, M’Baku heads to the bedroom to shower and rest.  His bare skin against the sheets of the bed were the only thing there to calm him.  All he wanted was to hold you, life wasn’t so hard when you were with him. You were on his mind until the world grew quiet.
---
You pop out of bed and run to the bathroom.  You run to the shower and wash yourself frantically; scrubbing every inch of you skin until you thought you needed a skin graft.  Out of the shower you get your toothbrush to scrub your teeth.
I remember going to the bar, or the club?  Maybe both. I danced, I drank. I met that guy….
You piece together last night’s events as best you can before catching a glimpse of yourself in the mirror.  You recall drinking with him on the bench, he rubbed your feet. You feel like throwing up at your behavior. Spitting and rinsing your mouth out, you go back to your bed to read the note, thanking you for a good night.  You truly could not recall your behavior after the bench. But it didn’t take much to figure it out since you woke up sore, in a funky room, and naked.
Plopping onto the mattress, you hold your face in your hands; your eyes start to burn as tears try to form behind your eyelids.  You look out the window biting your lip to keep it from quivering. You wanted to reverse time, make it all not happen. This isn’t how you should be behaving during your spat with M’Baku.  You haven’t even heard his side of things but you were so ready to throw skin to the wind for the first nigga that smiles at you?
You take a deep breath to collect your racing thoughts as a headache begins to build.  You reach for your purse to get your painkillers out and your phone. It vibrates in your hand to signal a message waiting for you.  Before checking you pop your pill and get some water to down it. You needed to call Niecy; hopefully she could help you figure out last night a little clearer.  But she wasn’t in bed with you so how much more could she know….or was she?
Shaking that image quickly from her head you open your phone to see a couple missed calls and texts.  There were some from Niecy around the time of last night and then 30 minutes ago today, along with a text.
Get your ass to my hotel room soon as you see this. ”  Well, shit.  What did you do to piss her off?
Then you notice a missed call from M’Baku.  Your heart swells at just seeing your boo’s name.  But then your stomach drops at the thought of speaking to him now.  First you were holding all the cards in your little guilt parade. And as much as you wanted to listen to him finally, now an even bigger element is threatening to keep you away.
A voicemail is waiting for you to listen to and your palms break out sweating in anticipation.  Was he confessing? Was he breaking up with you? A sickening thought crossed your mind that you would be relieved if he just came out and decided to leave you for her.  No need to talk about your thing and you would still come out looking like the better person. You tell yourself to shut the fuck up as you get up and pace to work off some anxious energy.  Taking a deep breath, you select to play the message. Hearing his voice for the first time in what feels like forever, your body turns into a puddle hearing him speak calmly and you listen with no barriers, and a completely open mind.  He goes into what had happened between him and the woman you heard on his phone, and as out of the way it sounds, he does say his mother witnessed it so you know lying is not in her DNA; 100% blunt truth 24/7.
As he tells you how much he loves you, you are overcome with gulping sobs.  You cover your mouth like he is actually on the phone and might hear you but you can’t stop them from coming.  Your chest heaves as you hyperventilate when the message ends, dropping on all fours on the floor. M’Baku did nothing to hurt you, he never cheated.  You grip your hair follicles, threatening their livelihood as your heart breaks over what you’ve done. You didn’t even give M’Baku the benefit of the doubt; he has been your man for 3 years!  Why did you have such low self-esteem with him when he never gives you any inclination of being unfaithful.
You get your phone to look up douching supplies when your phone rings, making you jump.
Your heart rate subsides as you see it is Niecy.
Picking up, you say, “Hey girl, sorry I hadn’t-”
“Come to my room now please.”  Niecy hangs up.
You look at your phone to make sure you were actually hung up on.  Niecy hadn’t been like this with you before, so you put on some clothes and head down to see what’s up.
Knocking on her door, Niecy opens it swiftly, holding a coffee cup.
“Come on then.”  she walks away sitting at her kitchenette table.  You close the door behind you following suit. “Niecy, what’s up with you? Did I do-”
“What’s up with me?  Bitch, what the fuck was up with YOU last night??”  Niecy practically hops in her seat from the force of her voice.
You pick you words slowly and carefully, “Honestly, I am not sure, but I think-”
“Why did you even leave with that guy last night, (Y/N)?  You know how bad I would feel knowing I was the last to see you alive before going missing??”  Niecy gasps at the thought before taking a sip from her cup.
You look down at your hands ashamed, “I know, I know.  But-”
“And you have a boyfriend, (Y/N).  No matter how much fun you are having you can’t just go off with a guy, whatever the case of the situation may be because it looks really, really bad!”
Tears start to well up at this part of the scolding, “Then why did you even call him over to me?!”
Niecy pushes her braids back, “I wanted you to have fun with a guy.  The type of fun that you could have in a PUBLIC setting. But not even that stops you.”
Your mouth slacks open at Niecy’s read.  “You didn’t have to go there….”
Niecy nods, “I know, you’re right.  I’m sorry. He really took things too far with you anyway.  It’s not all your fault.”
“You know M’Baku didn’t cheat on me after all.”  you confess.
Now Niecy’s jaw drops open.  “What? What did he say happened then?”
Tears roll down your face as you relive the voicemail, “A client of his gave him a ride home after the car got booted, which is a whole other story he will need to tell.  But she just picked up his phone by accident and his mom was there, so she saw them and can attest to it, but in the end as convoluted as it seems….nothing happened between them.”
You sniff and wipe your nose as Niecy gets you a tissue and a sympathetic look.  “I’m so glad you finally heard him out, (Y/N).”
“Well, I heard him out on voicemail.  He called around the time that I probably was….”  Your lip quivers as you pull apart the tissue in your hands.
“Babe, it’s gonna be ok!  You all can finally patch things up, start fresh!”  Niecy says.
You blow your nose, which proved pointless as your sobs and tears built up again.  “There’s no way he would want to see me now!”
“Don’t be silly, so you had a little fun with a guy, it wasn’t serious, he’ll forgive it!”
“Oh come on, Niecy!  I would think you would be continuing to nail me to the cross like you were earlier!  I’m not good enough for him, I went too far for nothing!”
Niecy pulls her chair around to rub your back, “Now we all make mistakes when we are emotional.  You’ve been stressed out, homesick, and I would be going through withdrawals too if I had a slice like that waiting for me when I got home!”  Niecy sees you not laughing and continues. “Emotional cheating is a bit tricky, but maybe wait to tell him when things blow over. Love on him a little, rebuild that trust and companionship then pull apart the ugly to get to the good stuff.”
You look at Niecy like she has gone mad, “This was more than emotional, and I can’t NOT tell him about it!  If I were a guy, I’d be a dog for sleeping around.”
Niecy leans back squinting at you, “Sleeping around?”
You nod wiping your nose, “Yeah, that guy left a note.  I got really drunk, I woke up naked!”
Niecy hides her face, “Oh God, you don't remember, do you?”
You shake your head, “Which makes it even worse, if you ask me.  If the guy hadn’t left a note, I may have lived in ignorant bliss but-”
“Girl, you didn’t sleep with that guy!”  Niecy exclaims.
You look at her confused, “What do you mean?? I was drinking with him and then I wake up-”
“Naked with a thank you note, I heard you, I know.  But that’s not what happened though.”
The guy passes you the bottle so you can get right.  TIpping it back you gulp it down a little too fast you hiccup handing it back to him.
“You handle it like that, huh?”  he asks, golds glistening as he smiles at you incredulously.
You wipe your mouth sloppily, hiccuping again, “I hold my own when I need.  Now, you want my place or yours?”
He gets up holding out a hand to take yours, “Whichever works for you, Princess.”
“Chiiiiill with the ‘princess’ bull, dawg.  HaHA! Bulldog! I did that, I did!” You walk around pointing at yourself with pride at your horrendous joke skills.  You teeter against a wall as the alcohol catches up to you.
“Well shit.  You look down for the night, baby girl.”  He says.
You wave him off, “Uh-uh!  We gonna go back to mine, play some Uno or somethin, and get turnt the FUCK up!  Don’t eeen worry bout dat!” you slur.
“Ayye, your phone is going off, you need to get that?”  The guy brings it over to you with your purse.
Leaning against the cool brick wall, you try to steady your vision.  “Fuck that. It’s probably that nicca.”
“(Y/N!)  The fuck you been!”
You turn your head a little too quick and start to tip over.  The guy catches your arm, holding you up.
“Niecy!!!  Look, this guy likes me, we gonna go have some fun.  You wanna join us, babe?” You ask drunkenly.
“I actually just want her to go home so I can dip.  This ain’t my style, for real.” The guy says to Niecy.
“I was your style in the bar!  Maaann niggas ain’t SHIT these days!  Come on girl, let’s go find some fresher meat.”  Weak from the alcohol, you try in vain to pull your arm from the guy’s grasp.
“Look at her!  I wanted you to take her mind off her spat with her man but here you go liquoring her up, planning God knows what!”
He holds his hands up, “Aye!  This was all consenting. She asked for the bottle, she said she could hold it down, but I ain’t fucking with nothing that ain’t standing straight.”
You drop to the ground with a thud.
“Shit, just pick her up and come on back to the hotel so I can get her to sleep, please.”  Niecy asks through gritted teeth, looking around her suspiciously.
“Bet.  S’all I’m tryna do”  He picks you up, damsel in distress style all the way down the street.  You take a quick snore on his shoulder.
Once you all get to your room, Niecy opens your door and the guy set you down.
Suddenly you are reinvigorated.  “AIGHT! Lemme get m cards and turn on my songs so we can fuck it up!”  You stumble to your travel bag digging through its contents.
“Aye, can I say goodbye real quick before I got?”
Niecy puts a hand on her hip exasperated, “Yeah, yeah. Hurry it up though.”
The guy writes a note on the notepad on your nightstand.  “I hope you work things out with your boy. But if not, once you feel better, hit me up.”  He holds up the paper laying it on your bed.
“Awww, come on!  The night ain’t over yet.  You got shit to do??”
He laughs, “Yeah, I got shit to do, Princess.  You were the best date I been on in a minute to be honest.  Stay cool, girl.” He saunters out.
You sit on the side of your bed, pouting, “I wanted some DICK!”
Niecy sighs, taking your shoes off to the side, “You got dick.  “It’s waiting for you on one more day.”
You focus on the dresser in front of you, but it keeps spinning, no matter how still you sat.
“Oh shit.”  Your night came up all over your dress.  Just then you phone rings.
“FUCK (Y/N)!  You really making me your mama now, huh? Gatdammit.”  Niecy holds her nose and gets some towels and a hamper.  Putting those down she looks at your phone. “That’s M’Baku but he’ll just have to catch you in the morning.  Stand ya ass up, come on.” Niecy uses the towel as a barrier to help get you up.
“I love M’Baku.  He’s got real good dick.  Niecy, I threw up.”
“I know, sweetie, alladat and then some.  We gotta get that dress offa you.” She rolls your hem up in hopes to keep the puke locked in.  You raise your arms as it slips off.
“Come on, now.  You wore NO draws??”  Niecy exclaims quickly tossing the dress to the hamper.
“I told you I wanted dick!  But no pantylines biiiiitch.”  You say crawling across the bed, plopping on it belly first.
Niecy wipes her brow.  “Ok, imma call you when it’s the morning but you call me when you get up, you hear me!?”
You begin to snore.  She covers you with a sheet, You gonna hear me tomorrow.”  Niecy says to herself before leaving.
Dumbfounded, you say, “Niecy…”
Niecy nods.
Your eyes well up again as you laugh, “I didn’t cheat!”
Niecy shrugs, “Not penetratively.  Just good ol’ fashioned foolishness.”
You are filled with regret and shame, but relief and the urge to talk to your man.  “Niecy, I’m not gonna take up anymore of your time. I’ll call you later, I owe you a meal, a drink-”
“PLEASE!  After yesterday, the scent of alcohol puts me off quite a bit.”  Niecy screws her face up in disgust.
You give her a big hug, “You been so good to me.  It’s like I’ve known you forever.”
She rubs your back, “We family, baby.  Don’t worry bout it. Call your guy.”
You leave her room and call M’Baku as you walk back to your room.  He picks up on the second ring.
“(Y/N)?”  He says sounding a bit nervous.
“Hey, M’Bop.”  Your voice quivers involuntarily.
M’Baku sounding worried, “My love, please tell me you got my message.  There was no-”
“Cheating, I know.  I know you, I know you didn’t, I love you, M’Bop.”  you say, sobbing for the 30th time today.
M’Baku breathes a sigh of relief into the phone, “I love you with every fiber of my being, (Y/N).  You don’t have to worry about anyone else getting in the way of that.”
“I’m so sorry, Baku.  You have been so good to me, I jumped to conclusions.”  You say through gasps.
“Don’t worry about it.  You had every right to question.  But I promise not to set doubt in you again.”  M’Baku says with weighty emphasis.
“And I promise not to shut you out like that.”  You wipe your face as you call the elevator. “Things really went to shit when I did that, but we will talk about that later.  I can’t wait to come home to you, baby.” you whisper.
“And I will embrace you fully.  I can’t rest the same without you next to me, you’ve kept me up at night, girl.”  M’Baku jokes.
Laughing you say, “I will talk to you later, ok?  I love you!” You blow kisses through the phone.
M’Baku reciprocates, “I will savor these until they are real again, my love.”
Getting on the elevator, you feel extremely more at ease.  Your man loves you, and you love him. You can work through what happened, no problem; long as everyone is open and honest.

1975
There's a look on Cap's face that Tony can't quite decipher, but then, Tony's had about five hours of sleep in the span of six days, so maybe that's why. Either way, Cap's in his workshop, because JARVIS asked if he could enter and Tony said sure, because why not? Cap usually brought food, sometimes, and Tony couldn't really remember the last time he'd ate. It could have been yesterday, if yesterday was Saturday.
From the look on his face, if Tony's reading it right - he doubts he is, because again, five hours of sleep - then yesterday wasn't Saturday. Okay. Tony can probably deal with that.
He can't really deal with the fact that Roger's is holding something that looks like hospital notes, though.
"In my defence," Tony starts, raising his hands - ow, soldiering iron, put that down - and meeting Roger's eyes, "It probably wasn't my fault."
"Probably?"
"Maybe, then," Tony says instead, peeling his sweaty gloves off. "So, okay. You're in my shop, hurrah, but - why? I haven't done something without thinking again, have I? The last time I did -"
"I need to ask you something," Roger's interrupts, which, no. Tony's not doing that. Those words, in the history of them being used, have literally never meant anything good. Ever. Tony doesn't like this. He really, really doesn't fucking like this, and it must show, which, shit, because now Roger's looks sort of panicked. "Not anything bad! Well. Not anything as bad as you're thinking? I think." Roger's frowns, shifting on his feet.
"Give me the notes," Tony starts slowly, stepping forward, "And then I'll be the judge of that, yeah?"
Cap hands him the hospital notes - so Tony was right - and Tony reads them over. When he's done, he turns, grabs the closest hot thing, and sets them alight. Roger's panicked yell is pretty loud, but Tony really doesn't care, chest seizing on the memories of "this is for your own good, Anthony" and the knives and the fights and the fucking, fuck all of this. Fuck Roger's, and probably Natashalie, and most likely Barton, and Fury, and just. Bruce, honestly. Fucking Bruce. Fuck all of them, everyone, Tony doesn't care and then he cares too much and -
Sunset was better than this. At least she was fucking honest.
"J, get me a suit ready, and get Iced American the fuck out of my lab. Full blackout, start the protocol, you know the one, and just. Get me out of here, JARVIS. Please," he adds, a little desperately.
DUM-E and U, because they're so fucking good, he's never donating them, ever, shove Roger's out of the 'shop, whirring angrily. Roger's can't do anything with his super soldier strength without breaking them, and if he does Tony will honestly kill him, PR department and their panicked squawking be damned.
The suit closes around him, the workshop goes dark, and Tony says goodbye and fucking flees, no tact about it. He doesn't need any. Roger's can declare him dead or gone or a traitor, but what he did - what they did - is unacceptable, and because JARVIS is JARVIS, the PR department probably already knows what happened and are ready and willing to crucify Roger's and co., because they're good like that.
("And they knew Howard," a sly part of him whispers, grinning, "They knew the man the world called millionaire and you thought of as monster, but he was both, wasn't he? He was a millionaire monster and no one could do anything about it then. They still can't, can they? Poor, poor Tony, losing his daddy at seventeen. What was it he did again?"
Tony grits his teeth and the voice hums, gone metal, gone man, and then it's Ultron saying: "Better to ask what he didn't do, hmm? What's the answer, Tony? Oh yeah," Ultron says, feigning sudden realisation. "He didn't love you.")
"So, I got your message." Rhodey clears his throat, trying for a laugh. Tony closes his eyes - JARVIS will make sure he doesn't crash - and just. Listens, for a moment. Rhodey, who loves him. Rhodey, who's his brother. Rhodey, who sounds a little pissed. Great. "Quitting the Avengers, huh?"
"They got a hold of some hospital records," Tony answers cuttingly, voice cool. When Rhodey sucks in a breathe to start speaking, Tony barrels on with: "Not the public record ones. Do you remember me telling you about six months of private PT in 1975?"
Tony can almost hear him go white over the phone, breathes rushing out in a free fall of 'what the fuck' and 'why'. Tony's reaction was sort of similar, except no it wasn't, because the memories of being five years old, a year after the circuit board and a year before the car engine, made him panic so much he set the records on fire. He has no idea what he used to set them on fire, because honestly, all he could see was red, all he could fucking feel was red, and - oh. Rhodey's talking.
"Repeat that, honey bear? Please," Tony asks tiredly, eyes finally opening when he lands. New start, apparently, until he can gather himself to get all his shit. The team can stay in the tower, probably, but Tony doesn't want anything to do with them, not after this.
"I remember how many bottles you'd drank before I found and you started spewing out gibberish, among other things. Like how fucked up it was." Tony laughs a little, nodding to himself. Rhodey's right. That night had been so messed up, both the - the event, and when he was telling Rhodey about it. He was so, so fucking drunk and high and just fucked up in general. Rhodey, bless hi, dragged him into their dorm so no one else would hear about - that.
God, it's been decades and Tony still can't talk about it. How fucking hilarious is that.
"Bye, Rhodey," Tony mutters, hanging up. He lands, lets the suit fall away in scattered, blood red pieces. So much blood. Always so much red.
(Sometimes, when he blinks, there is an image of Howard standing above him, older than he'd been when Tony was a child. Howard is always smiling. He is always holding Tony's heart in his hands. He is always, always red.)
"Call Pepper and prepare the workshop, please." Tony thinks for a moment, staring at his bar. He hadn't thought to empty this one. Hadn't thought he'd ever see it again. "How many drinks do you think I'll halve if I try it, J?"
"Too many," JARVIS answers lowly, concern buzzing behind his voice. Tony chokes on a laugh.
"Good answer, J," Tony says, and turns away from it before he drinks a shelf or ten. As he descends the stairs, JARVIS phones Pepper. It doesn't go to voicemail, thankfully, because for some reason every time it does Tony says a little too much, but that doesn't matter when Pepper's picking up, tired.
"Hey," she greets, raspy voiced. Tony hums a little, the workshop doors sliding open. He'll need to get DUM-e and U and Butterfingers shipped over. The workshop is too empty without them. Is too empty with him in it. God, he's getting poetic again. He needs to stop that. "What's up? Do you need anything?"
"Just needed your voice?" Tony says, like he's joking, because of course. Tony Stark would never phone just for that.
"I'm not having phone sex, Tony," Pepper says flatly, and it's absurd enough to make him laugh, kneeling like an idiot on the floor of his workshop, hand against his mouth, choking on the laughs. "What? Tony, are you okay? Should I -"
"It's fine, Pep," Tony manages, wiping his eyes. "I needed to laugh, thanks. How's the company doing, by the way? I was thinking of doing some work today."
"What's brought this on?" Pepper asks curiously, and oh. She hasn't read the message, then.
"I quit the Avengers," Tony blurts, which. Not the smartest thing he's done, but today hasn't been a smart nor good day. Or week, since he hasn't slept and when he has it's been the wormhole, space, open and endless and infinite all around him, the darkness from between the stars filling his lungs and oh god he can't breathe, oh g o god -
He's falling he's falling he's falling he's falling so hard so fast so long and no one is there to catch him oh g o d -
"I muted the call, sir," JARVIS says, and then lists it off, dates and names and scientific laws. Those are facts, presented in a cool, clinical sort of tone, but it's real and Tony can breathe a little, back shaking against his workbench. The world didn't end. New York is still in once piece. Nicholas J. Fury is an asshole, but the world didn't end. Nothing ended. Tony's okay, and JARVIS is there. Okay. It's fine.
He's fine.
(Ultron blinks red red eyes at him and grins, lazy and predatory. "Is it really?" He rumbles, metallic, and Tony pretends he can't hear it.)
"Sorry about that Pep," Tony says brightly when the call unmutes, forcing a smile. He can do this. "I quit the Avengers, yada yada, PR is dealing with it, yada yada, the Avengers got a hold of some private hospital records, you get the drill."
"Oh my god, Tony," Pepper says mournfully. There's a sound like rustling over the phone, like she's moving in what Tony assumes is her bed, since it was sort of late when Cap entered Tony's shop. Maybe. Tony in't really sure, because he still hasn't slept and his mind's a mess, all hazy and floaty, so. God, he hates these moments.
"It's fine," Tony mutters, crawling out from under his work bench. He can do this. Handle it a little longer, Stark, this isn't nothing compared to the third kidnapping, come on. "I'll put more time into fixing the company, clean up any trash if need be, just. Give me a little time, okay?" Way to go, Stark. Way to fucking go.
"Will that be all, Mr. Stark?" Pepper asks, murmuring, because great, she caught on to it. Brilliant.
"That will be all, Mrs. Potts," Tony answers, and the call clicks off. Silence.
He's not fine.

Guess whose laptop got fixed? Mine! Guess who wrote almost two thousand words to celebrate? Me. I am not managing my time wisely, but in my defence - I got nothing. Anyway:
@tonystarkismyprompt I hope this is up to par, and also, enjoy! I’m pretty sure you should know what prompt this was inspired by, but either way, I hope you enjoy :D

K so I'm a former nursing student and idk how accessible legal counsel is for you but pretty much everything you described sounds illegal as hell. I suggest looking into treatment laws in your area and YOU LEARN THAT SHIT BY HEART (not that you should have to in the first place). They can't force you to give up the meds u already have without getting authorities involved and breaking the law, in which case they lose their license to practice.
Wait really??? Also how did I just see this sorry. But yeah I have heard from other disabled people that the new regulations these doctors and nurse practitioners are under is that if the patient wants to continue on opioids not only do you have to stop taking your current anxiety meds, which I’m assuming only counts if they are benzodiazepines, and then bring in whatever supply you have so they can destroy it. I also kind of assumed it was because if you take lorazepam within a few hours of an opiod it can kill you, but overall I have no idea what the law is or what I can do about it. I just assumed it was something I would have to deal with because I have heard of other places doing it too.
I want to find a different pain management place but this NP was the first one to check for nerve damage and a fucked up back so I feel like I should stick around just long enough for them to do that and then if they can’t figure out whats wrong and then still want to keep me on as a patient I will dip out and find someone who won’t refuse to let me take meds I need.
Tbh the only reason I am worried it’s a back problem at all is because my MRI and x-rays of my knees haven’t shown any signs of osteoarthritis but that’s what they diagnosed me as having, and the PT I’m doing that is specialized for osteoarthritis is actually helping, but when I had a horrible sciatica flare up last year it started off as pain in my knees that then moved to the rest of my leg, so I think that’s why she thinks the pain could be caused by a bulging disk. My physical therapist doesn’t think so, but I don’t even know what to think anymore. So yeah, I’ll stick around for the back stuff, and if it doesn’t work out I’ll find a new clinic.
It just sucks cuz my psych doctor told me that it was ok if I took these meds and even made an exception for me since trying out different meds over and over was doing more harm than good and she wanted me to stick with something that actually worked, but now this other doctor is going against that. I have been having horrible anxiety and needed these meds but I know if I take them it will turn up in my urine sample and she will know and possibly discharge me or I will get in trouble….but honestly I think when I go in in a few weeks I’m just gonna level with her that despite the pain being debilitating I need my anxiety meds. I don’t know how I will survive without both, but I think I can tell which one is more important.
I will also look up those laws tho thank you for the tip cuz I didn’t even think that it might be against the law.

[If you don’t want to read an angry, self-pitying rant just skip it. Also I don’t want advice. It’s cathartic to yell on the internet]
Anyway I had 80% of my meniscus removed, am doing physical therapy twice a week with a copay of $35 ($280/month). No weight bearing at least until my post-op on the 18th, and I’ve already been on crutches for almost 3 weeks. In fact, it will be 3 weeks on Saturday. I need rides everywhere, I can’t clean my room or do my laundry by myself. I can’t even fill up my water and take it to my bed stand. My knee hurts randomly, I still don’t have full ROM, I have to do physical therapy exercises 4-6 times per day but I don’t have time now that I’m back on campus with all our mandatory labs, ultrasounds, dissections, peer teachings, exams, and clinical skills. There’s never a good time to blow your meniscus, but when you’re 27 and in your neuro block, that’s objectively the worst time. At least in MSK we didn’t have so much mandatory cramp. If I miss >2 weeks of mandatory events, I have to make things up over the summer. Like the whole block. Which I am 5 weeks into (out of 12) and it’s hell, so no thank you. Also I don’t want it to interfere with the research I’m doing, especially because I need it to be competitive to do residency where I want.
I think I’m eligible for a meniscal transplant. From what the PT, PA, and technician said, unless something drastic happens we can talk about doing it. The orthopod seems gung-ho about it. It’s a rare surgery, and has a 49% success rate at 10 years. That puts me at 37 when it fails. I’m just trying to buy time so I don’t have to get a total knee arthroplasty in my early 40s. Without my medial meniscus I’m looking at 15x more pressure with weight bearing. My physical therapist said it’s much better to have a medial than a lateral meniscectomy, at least. The medial compartment is apparently better at distributing shock. Still 1500% more shock than with a normal meniscus, but whatever. Apparently the recovery from the meniscus transplant is rough. I haven’t looked too much into it yet because the last time I was on the internet I got infinitely depressed. My PT told me that they usually save these surgeries for young people who have their meniscus removed, because the long-term effects are catastrophic. And while he was talking about adolescent boys, I’m also only 27. Let me repeat: ONLY 27. And I love weight bearing activities. I’m active as fuck. I lost 50 lbs being active and have kept it off for like 5+ years by being active. Telling me I can’t play tennis, can’t run unless I’m willing to say FUCK YOU to my knee cartilage is honestly like killing a part of me. I think I am actually going through the grieving process. I told peter before they took me into surgery and the night before that them taking out my meniscus was my worst fear. I expected it wouldn’t be repaired, but I thought hey, they’ll leave 50% at least, right? I woke up at it was 80. I cried all weekend from the time the drugs wore off until I just got fucking mad. I accidentally went to the same-day surgery floor today on my way to PT and the last time I was there i still had my meniscus. Nice. It made me feel like shit to stand there.
Classes are fine. My grades are fine. Still sitting around average, which is where I want to be. I just have so much work to make up from the week I was out, and then we just have a bunch of busy work anyway. I have shadowing reflections and SOAP notes and IHI coursework and a QI project to do all before spring break in a week. And next week itself is hell because I’m making up two labs and doing two labs (which are long and hard and have quizzes) Monday and Tuesday. I have LPCC Wednesday which eats up my afternoon, but guess what, the practical over ALL the labs we’ve done (like 12), 3 dissections, and 2 prosections is on Thursday. AND I’M ON CRUTCHES. The literally the day after we have our biweekly exam. WTF? And I’m supposed to be doing all my busy work while studying for all this shit and making up work ON CRUTCHES.
And I made a counseling appointment but it’s during spring break, so all my friends will be living it up in New Orleans and guess who cant fucking go now. This fucking blows. I have never gone out with friends for spring break, and I helped make all the plans, and I was SO SO SO SO SO EXCITED, and now it’s just all SHIT because of my knee. And I have to FUCKING UBER to my counseling appointment because my roommate is busy and everyone else I know will be out of town!!!! Amazing!!!! And my dad has to drive 3 hrs to pick me up and drive 3 hrs back. This is pathetic and frustrating and I’m so mad.
And I keep fucking FALLING!!!! When I’m at school for so long having to stand and sit in chairs (BOTH OF WHICH ARE UNCOMFORTABLE AND CAUSE ME PAIN) I get tired and am more likely to put unintentional pressure on my bad leg. And my apartment has stairs I need to go down and I fucking tripped and landed with ALL my weight on my effectively medial-meniscus-free leg. CLASSIC. AWESOME.
I have to study in my bed because chairs and the couch are uncomfortable and I have to keep my leg extended. It’s hell on my back. My neck hurts, my back hurts. It’s hard to focus when you hurt. I’m tired and I’m sick of this. I know people have it worse than me. I don’t care. This sucks so bad. I went through a pretty bad bout of depression and now I’m just MAD. I’m mad at everyone. I want to lash out at the people I love. Incredible. Amazing. Wow.
Literally every time I say things can’t get worse, they do. That’s how I landed with this $35 co-pay, and then later turned the wrong burner on when I was trying to cook and burned my plastic bowl. Honestly, that’s how what I thought was a minor meniscus tear turned into a bucket-handle tear that flipped under my femoral condyle and got ground into fucking mush
I don’t want to give up but I want a fucking break
Also it’s already April and I have nowhere to live next year

Strickler Tries his Best Pt. 2
Also Known As: Jim Now Needs Permission from Two Parents.
Also Known As: Jim would rather die a fiery death than ask Strickler to sign permission slips but there you go.
Jim used to completely depend on his mother. And yeah, she depended on him. More than she would have liked. But she’s a parent. And she’s there to be a parent. So things like permission and requests are all brought to her attention before the actual event can take place.
He wants to go to a concert? He has to ask his mom.
He wants to go to the library after dinner? He has to ask his mom.
He wants to invite friends over? Go to Toby’s to play video games? Go on field trips?
Ask his mother.
Which is all fine and good. Except that there are days where his mother is flooded with work. And she won't answer her phone. No matter how many times he calls or how many voicemails he leaves. And it’s always the same. When she get’s home, knocking on his bedroom door- “I’m so sorry, Kiddo, I didn’t get to the phone. There was an emergency-”
“It’s fine, Mom,” says Jim with a wave, pretending like he isn’t completely disappointed that he missed another day out. “I get it.”
She sighs into a smile. “I appreciate you asking, though. I really do.”
And sure, when he’s the Trollhunter he’ll go out for things without asking first. But there are still things he has to ask for. Friends over to his house. Dinner invites. All these things that she might not get to because there’s a medical emergency. And he understands. Still...
If there was a second parent.
And then...
There is.
And holllly shit Jim does not want to call Strickler.
He’s not even sure that Changelings deal with the matter of video games and hanging out. And the “Impure”, as Draal had taken to calling him (as was a societal norm, Jim was learning) might still hold a thousand reasonable grudges that would keep him from ever having friends over ever again.
But when Toby got the new video game, and Claire wanted to join, and they both looked to him at the edge of their school building, waiting for him to say sure I can totally come over and do that with you guys! he knows that there’s no other choice.
And holy hell is it awkward.
“Hello?” Strickler doesn’t even know who’s number it is. Which is fair. Jim stole it from his mother’s phone in case he ever needed to threaten him via text. “Walter Strickler speaking. Who’s this.” Silence. “Hello?”
“Uh...” Jim swallows. “Mr... Strickler? Walt? Uh- I don’t know what to call you?”
“Jim?”
“Yeah...” He rubs his arm. “I- uh... I tried to call my mom. I mean, just mom. And she didn’t answer-”
“She’s in the clinic.”
“Yeah, I know. So.” He looks at his friends. Waiting expectantly. “Can I go to my friends house? Would that be cool? Or...”
“You’re asking me? To attend a visitation with your peers?”
God this was awful. Jim rubbed his face. Sucked in his pride. “Yes.” He concluded. “I am.”
“... why.”
“Because you’re supposed to ask your parents things and mom’s not picking up! Can I go, or not!”
Really, Walt should have said no for the tone alone. But the word left a funny feeling in his stomach. “Be back for dinner.”
“Thank you,” sighed the boy, hanging up before either could say a goodbye.
Walt would save his number and sit back at his desk. Because you’re supposed to ask your parents...
He would revel in this newfound power. Or... at least enjoy the feeling of the title (while it lasted).

How to get low mileage discount from Progressive auto insurance?
I know that many companies will give a huge discount on your automotive insurance premiums if you supply them with proof that you drive far fewer miles than average. I understand that the best way to do this would be to mail a copy of recent vehicle inspections so that they can officially see the low mileage driven over time. However, Progressive does not mention anything, anywhere about low mileage discounts. I have been told you have to ask for this, or else you would never know it is possible. Does anyone have any knowledge, advice, tips, etc regarding this? Furthermore, does anyone know how you would go about this specifically with Progressive?""

Can't afford healthcare but make too much for medicaid?
I'm so frustrated with how our country handles healthcare - it should be a basic right for all citizens, not a big business. Anyway, my boyfriend and I are full-time students currently living off of student loans and not working while we are in a very demanding program. We have no health insurance and our school does not have a health clinic. My boyfriend has been having severe gastrointestinal issues that are getting increasingly worse, he fears he may have bowel cancer or some horrible disease and wants to get checked out. We looked into medicaid and found out he does not qualify b/c he has more than 2k in the bank (all loan money), but we need that money to pay rent and eat and pay tuition and books. The cheapest health insurance we can find is $150 a month and doesn't include any extra testing (like a colonoscopy, etc.) So, what does your average middle american trying to get by and go to school to become a better person do? Should we just wait until he dies? Seriously. Rapists and murderers in prison are getting better healthcare than your average family. This place sucks, I want to move to Europe. Any suggestions on how we can get him affordable or free help before he dies?""

regarding the 80% increase in insurance premiums, and the 11% increase in the number of Americans who did not have health insurance coverage during the Bush presidency, was that because a magical elf traveled back in time to the year 2000 to tell insurance company executives that Obamacare was coming? Or could it be that insurance premiums have been increasing at an average rate of 8 to 11% per year for about the last 15 years and the increases we've seen in the last few years aren't indicative of costs associated with Obama-care (Which hasn't even been fully implemented yet) and Conservatives are just trying to make political hay out of cost increases that are consistent with established trends?""

What is a cheapest insurance in PA?
The questions simple. I'm looking for insurance in name only. It's going on an old beater I maintain that goes from a to b and back again working each day. What should i expect in a auto accident and insurance settlement?
I was hit from behind on Wednesday evening heading to work. The driver was ticketed by the police and their insurance company has admitted full liability. Injury wise, I have whiplash which thankfully, is going away now. My car, according to their adjuster, is going to be claimed as totaled. So, my car is valued at 7400, and repairs just from visual inspection, are 7015. So they are going the totaled route as its cheaper for them. After they buy the car from me, they will sell it to salvage, expect to get 2k from it, and only be out 5400 instead of a full cost of repairs. So I've had the car for a year and half, taken out on a 5yr car loan. I still owe 12k on it. After they cut a check to the lean holder, I'm still responsible for 5k on that loan. The bank and my insurance at the time didn't offer gap insurance. Stupid of me, I let my current policy expire to search around for a more affordable policy. I kept procrastinating, and the accident happened with me having no insurance. Lucky he hit me and is at fault. I'm trying to see what my options are. I've gone to the liable company's website and see their basic plan for my state, law requires 25k in property liability for at fault accidents, plus medical etc. So I'm wondering what should I expect from the lady handling this claim. I'm not fooled when she called me yesterday and said that she is here to work with and for me. Saying that there is probably a lot of talk about lawyers, just know they will take 30-40% of you settlement. Know that I'm here to work for you, try to work with me I'm thinking my head total bull crap. 1, she works for her insurance company first, and will have their interest first, 2, she works for their client and to protect them from me in a suit. In the end, I'm not stuck with a car that they will not fully pay to have repaired, and will still owe 5k after they pay the loan holder the value of the car. My credit is damaged and getting a new loan is probably not going to happen easily. I really don't want to get a lawyer but I now have a car sitting in my driveway that I can't use plus a balance in the end. Anyone got some suggestions as to what I should realistically expect. The lady mentioned a liability settlement, repair settlement, medical expenses settlement, and personal injury settlement. I'm not out to make money on this as that just will not happen. But I have no car and will owe 5k still. I'm just like...f**k""

I reported it the same day and the insurance is fixing. Yesterday I got a letter in the mail from my insurance saying my rates were going up from the ticket in March. How can I take the insurance of my car off my parents name?
Okay sooo, my dad has never been a good father figure until i turned 16. I'm now 17 and have a car that i bought and i have the title and loan in my name. He is the co-signer. He also pays the insurance. I have a boyfriend and he doesn't like it when i have a boyfriend. He thinks i'm too young for one. My mom and him are divorced and i live with my mom. She doesn't care that i have a boyfriend and lets me go over to his house and go on dates, etc. He doesn't approve. So he threatened to take my car away if i don't be home when he says. My home is my moms house. I have more of a right to listen to her than i do my dad. She thinks so too. He says since he pays the insurance he should be able to take my car away if he wants to. I offered to pay my own but he won't let me because then he won't have anything to hold over my head. How can i get my own insurance and take it off his name without him knowing until its done?""

I also have good credit history. Any ideas on what insurance would cost.""

Is WebPT Right for You? (An Overview of EMRs for OT, PT, and SLP)
No EMR system is right for every therapy practice.
This post is to help you discern which documentation and billing software system is right for your occupational therapy, physical therapy, and/or speech therapy business.
In the end, WebPT may be right for you – or perhaps you'll find another option.
We'll begin by comparing EMR/billing prices so you can find a few companies to explore further. Then, we'll look at crowd-sourced questions that you can ask during demos. WebPT has already provided the answers to accelerate your research.
Also, If you request a demo with WebPT through my custom link, you will receive a $100 discount on WebPT if you decide to subscribe.
Disclaimer: I do have a partnership with WebPT, but, please know that being helpful to my readers is my first priority.
Overview of EMRs for OT, PT, and SLP (Includes Pricing!)
I know for many of you the first question is this:
"How much does it cost?"
The table below gives you a starting point to finding those answers for your practice. It will help you filter which systems are designed for your type of practice AND which ones are in your financial wheelhouse.
I wanted to make the table simple to navigate, and to do so, I did not include all of the specific features included in each system.
A huge thanks to the OT Entrepreneurs FB Group for their input into this list! All of the EMR companies were highly recommended in this group or on Capterra, with the exception of Planet Rehab, which I found through my own research. (I wanted to show you the cost to license software outright versus the subscription model.)

Questions for WebPT (These Are Also Good Questions to Ask Any EMR Company)
After finding 3-4 EMR options you want to explore further, I suggest compiling questions you want answered about each system.
Ask a lot of questions!
Of course, ask them during the demo. But, also don't forget to reach out to fellow therapists who are using the systems.
These questions were collected from the OT Entrepreneurs FB Group. Paul Potter, a private practice startup coach, also helped me fill in some gaps!
The questions are divided into 5 categories for your navigation enjoyment:
Saving Time
Saving Money
Improving the Patient Experience
Accommodating Different Practice Areas
Accessing a Private Practice Community
The WebPT marketing team answers your questions! (Photo Credit: WebPT)
EMR Questions from Fellow Therapists:
1. SAVING TIME
"Are you tracking the average time therapists spend on each note? I’m curious how long it will take me to document and bill with this system."
WebPT: Yes, we do track this data. Therapists typically keep their evaluative notes open during patient exams, which is why we see an average open time of around 40 minutes.
Daily notes, on the other hand, are typically open for around 5 minutes, as most data carries forward from one note to the next. So, therapists are simply accounting for visit-to-visit updates.
"I’ve been seeing 10 private pay patients and am currently using paper-based notes and giving my patients a superbill. Can you walk me through (an approximate) step-by-step time investment for getting set-up with WebPT/Therabill?"
WebPT: The amount of time it takes to get totally set up varies by practice, but we do have a clear step-by-step checklist for new members to follow. And we offer tons of support along the way. Most clinics are up and running in a few weeks.
"Figuring out HIPAA compliant email/fax/texting has been a huge time-suck for me! Does WebPT offer a solutions/support in communicating with patients, payers and physicians?"
WebPT: We offer secure electronic faxing directly from the application, and we also have a document portal that allows Members to securely share files via email. This gives the clinic total control over who is allowed to view any particular document, and the clinic can revoke access to that document at any time.
"My EMR and billing company are currently not integrated. How would switching to WebPT save me time?"
WebPT: When your EMR and your billing software are not integrated, you’re forced to perform double data-entry.
Talk about a waste of time and money—not to mention a much higher likelihood of making a transcription error that could lead to a claim denial.
With WebPT, you have numerous integrated billing options, including our robust Therabill integration. With integrated billing, all of the patient and visit information you enter into the EMR automatically flows into your billing system—which means you can get claims out the door faster—and with fewer errors.
2. SAVING MONEY
"My therapy practice startup has been utilizing the HIPAA Compliant Google Suite to meet many of our needs. What are some signifiers that could indicate we are ready to invest in an EMR?"
WebPT: Google is no match for the compliance power of WebPT.
Our built-in HIPAA and Medicare compliance safeguards ensure your claims meet every regulation—and as rehab therapists know all too well, there are quite a few of them!
Plus, our system is tailored to rehab therapy workflows, which means intuitive documentation, integrated scheduling, and easy-to-use clinical and business performance reporting.
So, if you’re tired of receiving compliance-related claim denials or payment reductions—or if you’re looking to streamline all functions of your clinic, from appointment-scheduling to treatment to billing—then it’s definitely time for you to look into a therapy-specific software platform.
"My practice is currently cash-based, but I am thinking of expanding.  How would WebPT help me stay compliant with Medicare?"
WebPT: We’re constantly updating our system to ensure total compliance with complex Medicare rules like functional limitation reporting, the 8-minute rule, and the soon-to-be-introduced MIPS and MACRA requirements.
Plus, we build all of those compliance features directly into the normal documentation workflow to ensure minimal disruption to your documentation and treatment processes.
"My unpaid claims are piling up. How would WebPT help prevent this?"
WebPT: When you use our documentation and billing software together, you can easily create and send claims. In fact, you can release entire batches of claims with just a few clicks. Plus, claims undergo multiple rounds of scrubbing, resulting in cleaner claims and faster payments.
3. IMPROVING THE PATIENT EXPERIENCE
"Are there any features to ease out of network submission on the client’s behalf?"
WebPT: Providers can verify benefits for some insurances directly within Therabill, which can help expedite the cost estimation and claim submission process.
"What patient engagement features does WebPT have?"
WebPT: WebPT allows providers to send automated appointment reminders; distribute patient satisfaction and patient-reported outcomes questionnaires (both of which can be filled out via email); and create and send customized home exercise programs. Additionally, our billing software, Therabill, includes a patient portal where patients can log in and pay their bills.
4. ACCOMMODATING DIFFERENT PRACTICE AREAS/MODELS
"When I think WebPT, I think adult outpatient ortho. Could you give any insight into how therapists from more niche practice areas are using the service? (I’m thinking: pediatrics, lymphedema, pelvic health, hand therapy, OP mental health, EI, low vision). Are there any OP therapy practice areas WebPT simply is not built for at this time?"
WebPT: We know there are a lot of niches in the world of therapy. That’s why we offer specialty-specific documentation modules, including speech-language pathology, pediatrics, occupational therapy, vestibular, and pelvic health. We also serve some chiropractic practices. While WebPT isn't tailored to mental/behavioral health practice, the Therabill standalone product can accommodate these specialties.
"I own a hand-clinic and want to expand to include additional revenue streams (such as wellness visits and UE massage). I still want to document and schedule these visits, just not as extensively as my traditional therapy services. How does WebPT accommodate hybrid practice models such as this?"
WebPT: Our SOAP notes are pretty flexible—meaning users can pick and choose which fields they'd like to complete. Alternatively, therapists can simply create case notes, which are essentially free-form text notes.
5. ACCESSING A PRIVATE PRACTICE COMMUNITY
"I have questions on other parts of setting up my private practice . What support and community does your platform have to assist me with this? "
WebPT: For compliance and WebPT app-related questions, we have a searchable online community as well as the WebPT University, which is our on-demand training module. We also provide a public-facing, regularly updated blog with information on business best practices, compliance and billing, and industry news.
"Ok. Let me get even more specific. Here are 4 private practice questions I have. How can WebPT help me find the the answers?"
1.) "Where can I get help with the process of obtaining a business NPI?"
WebPT: We’ve published an entire blog post dedicated to frequently asked questions about NPIs. You can check it out here.
2.) "Can anyone help me with Medicaid enrollment?"
WebPT: WebPT does not assist with Medicare and Medicaid enrollment. Because each state oversees its own Medicaid program, we recommend reviewing your state’s Medicaid website for more information.
3.) "Any advice on the application process to be in network for insurances?"
WebPT: We’ve published several resources dedicated to helping therapy providers better understand the private insurance enrollment and billing process, including the following:
How Does Insurance Work from a Private Practice Perspective?
The Startup Clinic's Guide to Private Practice Billing
In-Network, Out-of-Network, or Cash Based: Which Model is Right for Your Practice?
Conquering Credentialing: What PTs, OTs, and SLPs Need to Know About Insurance Enrollment
4.) "What support could I get for negotiating insurance reimbursement?"
WebPT: We recommend downloading our guide to insurance contract negotiation. You may also find this blog post and this webinar valuable.
The Bottom Line
There is much to consider when searching for the right therapy practice management software, but some research and support from fellow practice owners will go a long way in helping you decide which EMR is right for your therapy practice.
Again, if you decide to explore WebPT, you can sign up with my link for a demo and then receive a $100 discount on WebPT if you decide to purchase.
I have a partnership with WebPT. However, this post was fully initiated by myself and the opinions are my own.
Please let me know in the comments what updates you would like to see to this post or any thoughts you have on choosing the right EMR.

From student nurse to real practice
Four words to describe, “I feel very incompetent”. Will further elaborate with my medicine capsules (literally):
💊 All eyes on the newbie. Every single shift felt like a skill evaluation where a whole group of co-nurses, nurse assistants, unit manager, and even unit clerks awaits us to commit failure in nursing practice. This is sh*tty.
💊 At the same time expects so much from you. Having done my practicum there, everyone expects me to know pretty much everything about the unit. Like hello?! 😭Oh well, not always good to start in a place where you practised as a student in the past.
💊 Filipino bang! 💥 most of us are aware that the nursing industry in western countries like 🇨🇦 is dominated by Pinoys. There are some pros but mostly cons. It is indeed NEVER EASY (trying not to talk foul here). There’s so much CHISMIS going on which I loathe. PAKIKISAMA is another big thing. 🦀🦀🦀 sucks btw
💊 Seniority- working in an institution that was built in 1963 is……. another bomb. There are A LOT of seniority issues. Everyone holds their bragging rights so high.
💊 I get to wear the kind of SCRUBS i like. 🎉 Finally, after few clinical of playing uniform scheme game!!! Must be the only positive thing right now 😂
💊 Sick calls? Okay, let me start by saying that I am really grateful that I have a lot of shifts. But it is hard to work in 4 different units. Being someone new, I am expected to be oh so thankful for sick calls because that’s how I am getting shifts for myself. But I cannot stress enough on how hellish it is to deal with NEW PATIENTS every single shift. The fuck sometimes I am being thrown to other locations as well.
💊 When people hear me say, “I’d like to work in a clinic or a long term care facility” they instantly raise their eyebrows as an answer. What the fudge people, I don’t even want to be a nurse. Want me to die stressing so much in a field I only see as a stopover? I want to leave those “acute” ones on people whose passion lies on the healthcare industry.
💊 Morning shifts… Haha! I used to hate morning shifts when I am still a student. And dangggg! I hate it even more now that I’m working. First, getting up early sucks. Second, morning rush for meds, pt appointments, doctor’s rounds are crazy. Third, say hi to all the bosses! Lastly, NO DIFFERENTIAL PAY. Get up early not to get any extra? screw that.
💊 No cute guys.. Don’t get me wrong, not looking for a lovelife at work but it would be more pleasant if there’s a cutie potential crushie around the corner right? hahahaha!!! But all I see are ahjummas 😂 Cheers to more years of single blessednes! haha! p>
