"Oh no, someone's attracted to the aesthetics of my -punk movement but doesn't know the praxis and history behind it like I do--"
OK. Tell them. Make it a teaching moment. Everyone who's in your movement learned the background from somewhere at some point, maybe this is that point for that person. Give them a jumping off point that they can dive into later.
"Oh but I shouldn't be responsible for teaching baby -punks about the history and the how-tos and--"
OK. Then don't tell them. You don't have to be responsible for teaching people with a budding interest in your group the ins and outs and how-tos. That's fair and valid! It can be a lot of work. Someone else will handle it
"But I'm annoyed that they would try to claim to be part of/be interested in my community without knowing all the details that I know after being in it for months/years/decades, they're dumb, they're posers, they're--"
OK. Then don't engage with them, if it's that bad. Maybe someone else will come around and tell them the history, maybe they'll pick it up on their own, maybe they'll just enjoy the fashion elements for awhile.
"But they shouldn't claim to be part of the -punk community if they don't know the--"
I feel like we have a few options here. People can either talk to them, share the history, share the values, share the praxis. Or they can just chase off anyone who even thinks about dipping a toe in their community, and then wonder why it's dying off later down the line.
I dunno, maybe I'm too naive and patient or whatever. But if people are entering your -punk spaces without knowing The Rundown of what you feel they need to know, maybe being nice about it and informing people instead of immediately assuming stupidity and malicious intent could help you make a new friend. Even the loudest voices in a space had to learn from somewhere, and not everyone has the luxury of being in the space as the History was Happening--whether it's an age thing or a not being aware of the space thing. Or maybe I just don't see what the big deal is behind people hating people who like the aesthetic of something and don't know the behind the scenes history about it yet.
Because I believe in the word 'yet.' No one comes into this world knowing everything about everything, and we're all constantly learning new things. I'm not gonna degrade someone and call them a poser for not knowing what I know. Because if it were me, interested in a scene but getting chased out and called a poser? I wouldn't hit the books and study up, I'd go 'that fuckin sucks, those people sucked' and then avoid anyone and anything having to do with it.
So chase people off and call them posers if you want. But if your community starts dwindling, don't be fucking shocked.

Remember kids, gatekeeping punk is OKAY when it’s done to conservatives who try to co-opt the punk scene!
“Conservative is the new punk” 🤡
“Punk is right wing” Johnny Ramone 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Any band or individual in the scene old or new that are conservatives are POSERS!! Remember, punk went against rock star worship of the 70s!

MLP battle vest update! Original Post
6 new patches and 2 new original pins!
I also added another row of studs to the shoulders, as well as a pin and ribbon I got at pride.
Antonymph: created by Vylet Pony
Yippie! Pinkie Pie refrenced from TroubleLooksForMe on Deviantart
Creator of Fluffle Puff, FlufflePuff662 on DeviantArt
I decided to use the old TLT logo, as it’s more associated with his time in the brony fandom and more closely resembles his OC’s cutie mark.
Please let me know your thoughts, comments and questions, and feel free to tag me if you create anything similar that is inspired by this!
Pic of me wearing the vest at pride under the cut:

I literally do not understand how most people perfer punk as just the aesthetic after knowing about the culture.Sickest music ever, learning to make your own shit,UNlearning internalized bigotry, helping people, being weird as fuck, breaking the law, sense of community and solidarity, kids looking up to you and getting them join in.What is the downside compared to looking cool with piercings and dyed hair but not even being willing to be rude to people who actually deserve it instead of trying to be Mcu quip-adjacent,it's like we're an entirely different species. Are you guys afraid to develop personalities? Is that why you kin Mcu characters?

ive made this post before but Shoutout to Cripples who listen to punk and embrace the subculture but cant attend gigs, either due to our own disabilities or general inaccessibility. we can still engage in the subculture from our homes! and anyone who calls you a poser for that probably is an ACTUAL poser wearing shein clothes standing in the back of the room shaking in their poshmark boots cuz theyre scared of messing up their tiktok eyeliner in the mosh pit lmfao. REAL punks are anti-ableism and will share music with you and bring you back merch from the gigs you couldnt attend

Can we talk more about the transitional phase between normie and alternative? Because we all did some corny shiz back then. Very poser behavior. And I think we all need to talk about it. Cleanse our souls.
I feel like the "I call myself emo but I don't even understand what that means" starter pack is a tattoo choker, a pair of black plain cross earrings and a band tee for a wildly popular rock band that isn't even really emo like AC/DC or Misfits or something. Or that Nirvana t-shirt, you know the one I'm talking about. If I see that shirt one more time, I'm gonna puke.
It's like you looked around Walmart for anything at all black so you could fit in with the edgy kids at school. It's like those "emo transformation" TikToks but... but this isn't a game to you, this is normal Tuesday behavior. Who is three or four years deep into alt culture and still wearing this outfit? Cuz I wore this outfit when I was probably thirteen... for about a year... never again. Also had a leather jacket that you could not peel off my body. I ran that thing into the ground.
Don't even get me started on how we all labeled everything "emo" that clearly was not- especially music. Who was gonna tell us emo was not a synonym for edgy and sad?
Anyways, I ended up donating those cross earrings to a nearby blossoming baby bat and burned the tattoo chokers a LOOONG time ago. They no longer have power over me. I'm a free woman.
Got any funny baby bat/puppy punk/poser days stories or thoughts? I need this.

so much "punk gatekeeping discourse" would be solved if only weird posers online started educating themselves on anarchism
"even if someone doesn't interact with the punk subculture literally at all, they could still be called punk if they have punk ideals" is a complete nonsense statement when 1. there is no such thing as universal """punk ideals"""
and 2. if I had to guess, those "punk ideals" you're talking about is just anarchism. only you don't know anything about anarchism other than the most rudimentary aesthetic-level shit that you're picking up on through your neo-liberal lenses, so instead of (correctly) identifying those ideals as political anarchism, you're instead (incorrectly) assuming those ideals are just some kind of cutest costumey "punk" belief system, and (because you refuse to engage with subcultures beyond social media tags) you're now pretending that your warped assumption-based concept of punk must be the whole subculture, and it upsets you to be told that you might be wrong.
if you refuse to engage with punk music (or "punk fashion" or the punk community or even individual punks themselves) but you like the idea of dismantling structures of authority, dismantling abusive institutions, abolishing borders and states, and uplifting your community, then you are not a punk but you might be a wannabe anarchist. which is fine. you're allowed to be an anarchist. literally instead of trying to force yourself into a music scene you hate (making both yourself and others miserable in the process), do something useful by educating yourself on anarchism and see if that quenches your desire for "punk ideals"
