STEFAN REIN
[ “GERBEREI” | Pure Traxx | Stress Research | Aggregat | Ostgut Ton | Blast!, SN ] Born into an East-German family of artists, Stefan Rein experienced the world of music, especially within the theater scene, from early on. After many years of classic piano lessons during his childhood and youth, he devoted himself to electronic music in the early 1990s, when Hardcore became his first passion and Bunker-Tapes were deemed his collectables. The most crucial experience for Stefan, however, was the opening of the (meanwhile defunkt but never forgotten) „GERBEREI“ in 1994, the oldest and famous as well Techno Club in Mecklenburg, which should become the basis for all his future developments. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how, if Supernatural wanted a nostalgic call back in their series finale, instead of wiping out everything the boys had ever learned, they should have called back to what is generally considered the best episode of the entire series, Swan Song. And a brilliant way to do that would have been to have Jack be the narrator, paralleling Chuck in Swan Song. Ugh! I can just imagine it...
Jack’s voice over flashbacks montage-style: On May 15th 2008, Dean Winchester was dragged to hell after making a deal to save his brother’s life. On that day thousands of angels, the most powerful weapons in the universe, converged on hell all with a singular mission: to save the Righteous Man. Most didn’t know that the true nature of their quest was to start the Apocalypse that would change the world. Most didn’t make it out alive… For 40 years they fought, battling hoards of demons and even their Fallen brethren in the unfathomable depths of hell’s expanse. None of the angels knew which one of them would find and raise the man from the pit since this was a chapter that Chuck hadn’t thought to write carefully. By chance or fate or purely the passion of his will, the angel Castiel was the first to find Dean Winchester. By all accounts, he shouldn’t have been a special angel, just a grunt in a vast celestial army. But the moment he gripped Dean and raised him from perdition became the most important moment in the history of the universe. In that moment everything changed. That’s where this part of the story began. And here’s where it ends.
The episode continues on with Sam and Dean living post-Chuck life but Dean is still passing out drunk in mourning and struggling with the loss of Cas. Sam still does laundry and Dean still cuddles Miracle but it’s Sam who finds the Pie Festival in hopes of getting Dean out of his funk. At the festival, we get an emotional moment between Sam and Dean. Dean tells Sam that he can’t shake the guilt and they need to get Cas back. They decide that family doesn’t end with blood and they’ve got to do what they can to save him. Maybe Book of the Damned, maybe Rowena, maybe Jack. Who knows? You get the idea... they research.
Next Jack narration: Castiel, of course, was never supposed to be exceptional. Angels weren’t created with free will and he was no different, but there was always something special about him. He was the angel with the crack in his chassis but from that crack sprung a miracle… an angel who would chose free will and chose love.
Back to Sam and Dean. They prepare to save Cas. Dean prays to Jack who of course, is on board to help save his father. It was great to see Bobby in the finale and hear about heaven’s changes so maybe the spell requires a soul from heaven or something. Jack brings Bobby and he reveals that Jack is fixing heaven and that Bobby is now with Karen and he sees Mary and Ellen and Rufus and they are all happy. They plan the spell to save Cas. Also, Sam and Dean have a heart to heart about what’s next. They both want to keep saving people and hunting things, but maybe do it smarter and also have a life.
Another break to Jack narration: What does it mean for an angel to love? For Castiel, it meant questioning his faith and finding it again in his new family. It wasn’t always an easy journey, but he had two good teachers in the Winchesters. Sam taught him to always keep fighting, no matter the circumstances. And Dean taught him how to love with his whole heart and to be willing to do anything for that love. And sometimes, it was just to love life itself, in all of it’s simple pleasures. The flavors of a PB&J sandwich, movie marathons in the Dean cave, listening to Dean’s top 13 Zepp traxx, and late at night when its quiet in the bunker, deep talks with Dean over a glass of good whiskey. Love, it turns out, would be worth it all.
Back to our story – The ritual goes south, of course, and they get caught by the Empty. It isn’t going to let Castiel go and it’s going to kill Dean, but Cas rips out his grace so that he’s not an angel any more and the Empty has no claim on him. He and Dean are expelled back to Earth to hugs from Sam and Jack. Cas seems sad and worried about being a human, but Dean tells him he’s got a home with the Winchesters and tells Cas how much he is valued, not for his angel powers, but just for who he is (paralleling what Cas had told Jack). This eventually leads to an awkward ‘me to’ or ‘I love you too’ and a kiss.
Begin ending montage of Sam, Eileen, Dean, and Cas living life: on hunts, at the beach – toes in the sand, pregnant Eileen, a kid or two at what looks like a family picnic with our main four and the Wayward ladies and Garth etc., driving down a back road in the Impala, injuries and fights, in the bunker on the phone with hunters, aging together, you get the idea… a balanced life.
Final cut to Jack narration: So, was it all worth it? The pain and the struggle and the losses? I think it was. Because at the end of the day what’s all of this about? It’s about the life we choose and the bonds that we make along the way. It’s about learning to love someone else and learning to love yourself. And above all, it’s about knowing that we fight for each other because we aren’t in this alone.
Fade to black.
One of the things I loved about Swan Song was that narration. It gave the whole episode a feeling of gravitas that 15x20 severely lacked. If Jack had narrated this as the new God the way Chuck had, it could have hit on SPN’s most important themes: love, always keep fighting, you are not alone, family don’t end with blood. Instead what we got was a hollow callback to times before all of those lessons learned and growth. Excuse me while I got punch a wall.

Hello. At first let me thank you for your blog. I mean your posts and opinion as an insider is so interesting to read, it’s like you let us see a little more in this entertainment industry. After reading some posts I can now clearly see why so many stars live hard life, often have anxiety and even suicide thoughts. I mean their life seems to be fully controlled until they become really “someone” in this industry. Does it mean that until it happens they will do anything their company want and have nothing to do. I mean even if they get hate, they should pretend like they don’t care and can’t even say something against haters. My question is so random, I’m sorry. I also wanted to know, why so many singers and idols go acting even if they know many will hate it, they know they will get comments like “idols don’t let real actors to play”. I’m not sure about c-ent as I’m new. But I saw many such comments and reactions in Korean media. So why do they do it? Will they earn more money than being a singer or? Why not to try acting then? Why do they try to become idols? I mean there are so many talented singers and trainees who want ro sing. But eventually we see that many people who debuts as idols soon or later give up singing and try acting. I was just wondering. Thank you in advance, sorry if my question is too obvious. And better late than never. Happy New Year :)

Disclaimer: The following post is informed by my own experience working in the music industry. Chinese industry practices might vary.
In Asia, the world of entertainment tends to be pretty tightly regulated. It’s generally pretty difficult to get a foot in the door and even more difficult to actually “make” it. This post is going to mostly discuss Korea and Japan’s industries, as I am most familiar with those two markets.
LET’S TALK A BIT ABOUT IDOL HISTORY!
(Skip this entire section if you aren’t interested in history.)
In 1962, Johnny Kitagawa, the CEO of the entertainment company, Johnny’s & Associates, launched Japan’s first boy band, Johnnys. While this group saw some minor popularity, it paled in comparison to the group that is often considered to be Asia’s “first” idol group, Four Leaves, who debuted in 1967.
Four Leaves was a project composed of bishounen (pretty) boys who sang and dance but didn’t play any instruments. They were hand-selected and trained by Johnny Kitagawa himself, who largely focused on the artists’ personalities, attributes, and physical characteristics.
Four Leaves’ success was so great that Johnny’s sought to replicate it, creating the first idol (aidoru in Japanese) training camp system which is the foundation of all idol companies these days. Just like idol companies today, Johnny’s selected young bishounen boys who were admitted via an audition process, and then placed them in a dorm together. There, they would train as Johnny’s Juniors (aka trainees) until they were ready to debut.
By the 1980s, Japan had quite a few idol management companies (jimusho) that wanted to replicate Johnny’s success. By that time, the idol industry had matured, and the training camps had become extremely rigorous, Olympic-style singing, dancing, acrobatics, etc. all for the sole purpose of improving stage performances. By the time SMAP debuted in 1988, the system was already in place. But what SMAP did changed the game entirely: they launched their own variety show, effectively putting themselves into every Japanese household and endearing themselves to every single Japanese housewife.
This caused their popularity to skyrocket, which in turn led to the creation of the ecosystem we now all know: the all-encompassing idol who sings, dances, and acts in tv shows, variety shows, plays, and films. Brand deals and endorsements also really took off during this time, especially with the most popular member, Kimura Takuya.
(It must be noted that SMAP became very popular not only in Japan, but also all over Asia!)
By this point, South Korea was taking notice, and by the 90s, debuted their first generation of idol groups, which included the likes of H.O.T. and Shinhwa, who all went through more or less the same style of training that Japanese idol jimushos put through trainees through.
It must be noted that during this time, South Korea was pretty invested in trying to find the right secret sauce to also debut their artists in Japan, given the mature idol market there. S.M. Entertainment succeeded in doing this with their second generation artists, BoA, Super Junior, and TVXQ, by partnering with Avex Entertainment in Japan. (They even went as far as debuting a visual kei idol group, TraxX, which was actually produced by Yoshiki from X-Japan, to capitalize on the entire visual kei market in Japan.) JYP followed suit with Se7en and Rain, and YG Entertainment debuted BIGBANG and 2NE1.
During this period of time, it must be noted that the big talk of the town was surprisingly not pop internationally - it was actually Jrock, which had a big surge of popularity in overseas markets between 2007-2009. (Hence S.M.’s desire to debut a visual kei idol band in Japan.) The Hallyu wave hadn’t really started yet, but within a matter of a few years, Kpop was suddenly the hottest new thing just about, well, everywhere.
In fact, it was so popular internationally, that by 2013, Kpop had become the #1 biggest contributor to South Korea’s GDP. It was so important to South Korea that the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism established KOCCA (the Korean Content Agency), which began heavily investing in the export of all things “Hallyu,” but especially Korean music. International industry conferences worldwide suddenly started to see the rise of Korean showcases, which took place literally everywhere. KOCCA was determined to export their idol culture all around the world.
To capitalize more on international success, companies such as S.M. Entertainment and JYP began to incorporate Chinese members into their groups. This was specifically to give them a foot into the massive Chinese market, which, until the Hallyu ban in 2017, had a massive demand for all things Kpop.
It was around this same time that TFBoys in China debuted. The industry largely considered them to be the first real homegrown mainland Chinese idol group that rose out of a similar training system used in both South Korea and Japan.
HISTORY LESSON OVER!
Why did I feel the need to explain all of this history, you wonder? Couldn’t I just answer the question in a straightforward way?
Well, not really. It’s pretty important to understand that oftentimes, in the industry, idols aren’t seen as true artists - they are actually seen more as manufactured cultural products. The more products there are (i.e. music, acting projects) the more money there is, which in turn leads to more opportunities. When they are just starting out, idols never get to pick what activities they actually participate in - especially if they haven’t yet established themselves as very successful artists.
And even when they are established, oftentimes, an idol company will push an artist to try expanding/broadening their various creative outputs with acting. Why only sell music, when you can make money through tv and film?
Add in the additional benefit of not having any risk at all involved in said tv/film project and it’s win/win for the company - because they aren’t putting up any money upfront to produce and market the project.
Companies want their idols to pursue acting gigs because it increases the market share for the artist and more opportunities for their artist to create new fans who might discover the artist through the drama or film. This tends to be a big part of the idol ecosystem, though it must be noted that not all idols do go down this route if their company determines that their music products might generate far more money than their acting products.
This is especially true for rappers in particular, whose solo musical releases might not generate as much fanfare (or as much money) as an acting gig - especially in South Korea, where there is already a very mature, established Korean hip hop genre with plenty of very established hip hop artists. (There’s also a very popular hip hop competition show, Show Me The Money, that regularly features celebrity Korean hip hop artists.)
Sometimes, it just makes more sense to take acting opportunities, as they can generate better income than music.
Talented singers sometimes might also choose to go the acting route for the same reason - also because opportunities keep coming across the desks of their managers, who sometimes talk them into the projects. Other times, it may simply be that once an idol tries their hand at acting, they realize they have a real knack for it and end up wanting to pursue more acting projects.
In any case, there isn’t a single, universal reason why idols choose to go from singing to acting, but there is a universal reason why all idols inevitably do make the switch: money.
And for companies in particular, acting projects their artists star in are 100% pure profit with zero financial risk.
In any case, quite a few artists started out in music, tried their hand at acting, and then continued to do both. We see this especially with artists such as Vanness Wu, IU (Lee Ji-eun), and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, who are all still active in both acting and music.
I hope this massively long post was informative and also helped answer the question, “Why do idols go from singing to acting?” (I also hope I helped explain the way the idol ecosystem works and how it all started!)
Thanks for the questions and for reading.
Edit: Oops, I totally forgot to answer the question, “Why do some people become idols?”
The answer is pretty simple: it’s really hard to get into the entertainment industry, and many people see idol factories as a straightforward roadmap into a career in entertainment. While it isn’t the only way into entertainment, it often is the path many artists do ultimately choose to take.

“Something's not right about what I'm doing but I'm still doing it-- living in the worst parts, ruining myself. My inner life is a sheet of black glass.” ~Richard Siken
Moments in Leenik Geelo's life after losing his brother.
a/n: love that my first campaign star wars fic is just pure leenik geelo angst, i dedicate this one to @leenik-matagot thank u and also ur welcome <3 >:)
content warnings for: canon typical character death and violence, suicidal thoughts, refrences to self harm, ptsd, trauma and just general grief and depression.
It’s the emptiness he doesn’t expect. When they were running out of the planet the numb shock passing into the unrelenting reality of the loss he had just suffered.
There is that night where neither him or Chartreuse say anything and it felt like his chest was going to collapse into itself. It wasn’t real, not quite yet but the grief that threatens to consume him whole had already set in. it was like a gaping open wound in his chest. Like shards of glass. Like he was dying, following Tony into an early grave.
Those days blur together but he remembers eventually when the pain wouldn’t stop, he remembers cristal clear the quiet desperate prayer he sent out to the stars he and his brother had once travelled together.
Make it stop. He begged. I will do anything to stop feeling like this someone, anyone, please make it stop, make it stop, make it-
Be careful what you wish for, they say, because eventually it did, and it left the broken being that had once been Nicky Geelo.
There was nothing, he hadn’t thought it possible before to feel nothing but it was there. He was but an empty black hole. What was he now, without his grief and pain.
Nothing matters then, when the world stops being something you experience, he stared blankly at the wall. A million thoughts hung around his head.
It was your fault. It should have been you. You have always been this useless. What are you now? What have you ever been?-
They droned on, it was like listening to static, they were there, they were his thoughts and he believed them, but there was no emotion tied to it. He wants it back, the overwhelming despair, the anger burning in his veins, the quiet background sorrow that settles into your bones.
The first time Leenik Geelo gets captured on purpose he doesn’t plan on coming out of it.
He had picked up doing jobs again because he had to, life didn’t stop even if it felt like it should, the loss of Venton was nothing on the greater galaxy, even if to Leenik it felt like the stars weren’t allowed to shine without him.
It isn’t quite like he consciously plans on getting shot, it’s just that he goes in with a half-baked plan, no plan B, no weapons and not really sure when the last time he ate was.
And sure maybe when they are marching him to the brig, blasters trained on him part of him wonders why it would be bad if they just fired.
It’s not quite wanting to die, as much as it is not seeing the point in living. As much as that the moment they truly are about to shoot him his fear finally kicks in and he feels awake for the first time in months.
How he gets out of that one he doesn’t know, it's like all the luck in the galaxy follows him when he doesn’t want it.
He stands there and picks at his suction cups absentmindedly until one starts to bleed, he stares at the blood dripping from his finger like it contains the answers to everything.
-
He isn’t prepared for the wrath that comes next, the vast nothing in his chest comes and goes but the only other thing he is made of these days seems anger.
It is directed at everything and nothing, his brother's killer, Traxx, the ceiling fan that is too loud, himself. He who couldn't help, he had insisted to take on a job they shouldn't have, he should have been the one to fall in Ventons place.
The first time he stuns himself he can almost convince himself it's an accident. He is in fact, shooting at the fan, but who is to say whether he knew that the laser would bounce of it and hit him in the chest.
There is a flash of blinding agony and then a final blissful nothing. He wakes up very soon after, with a pounding headache, dizzy and miserable.
He knows very well he should not do that again, he stares at his blaster and feels some sickening kind of fear of himself. He tries to avoid using a blaster for a while but it doesn't last long.
It's always an accident though, and usually when it happens people laugh at the guy who just got himself stunned.
That's good he thinks making people laugh.
-
Leenik Geelo doesn't know the name of the first truly innocent person that he kills.
Usually there is some sort of justification for it, in his mind at least.
At some point he is at a shoot out and he very well knows he could aim away from the civilians that have nothing to do with it.
He doesn't.
There he is met with sickening guilt, and an even worse sense of perverted glee.
He sees the disappointed face of his brother every time he closes his eyes.
The moment he is alone that afternoon he breaks down crying, falling to the floor of some ship.
What have you become Nicky?
He doesn't know. He doesn't know.
-
It's Venton who should have lived, and so he starts dressing the part. it's easy to pass off the wig and the eye patch as simple eccentricities, people find it odd, people laugh.
Good. He thinks, it's almost better to not be taken seriously, no one seeing under the surface.
So easy some days to almost believe it's Tony who is staring back at him in the mirror. That he’s here with him at least. He doesn't know how to be himself anymore.
One day he simply forgets the eyepatch, he catches a glimpse in the mirror and panics. True awful panic, the one that causes you to stop breathing, your chest to hurt, your mind to start racing.
"I need to go get it," he chokes out.
"Jeez man, we have a job to do."
He is already running back already, his hands in fists shaking as he tries not to break into sobs in the middle of the busy street.
-
It is odd in many ways how much Venton had been to him. His brother, his work partner, his only connection to his home he had left behind.
Leenik isn’t good at planning, he isn’t very strong or agile or-
Together they were invincible and alone he’s just...him.
He isn’t sure whether he misses Rodea or his brother sometimes, tangled up together in a web of nostalgia.
There is so little that is left from the person he used to be now.
-
What exactly makes memories flood him like rivers is truly awful arbitrary, he hates it.
And like anything he hates inside himself, he fights it like a caged animal. He is holding onto the shards of himself so tightly, cutting his fingers with it, he is walking on his own broken glass.
It’s a perfectly unremarkable day on the Mynock, he struggles to open a container.
"You should work out more, Leenik."
He stares at a fixed point on the wall, he feels it, the helplessness, his brothers hand in his, he feels the way he can't pull them up because he isn't strong enough, good enough, such a failure-
"Leenik? You okay there buddy?"
Leenik snaps out of it, clearly looking at his surroundings.
"I am just self conscious about my strength alright," he says as he bats away Bacta's hand " Don't bring it up again."
Bacta looks vaguely worried but drops it, used to his odd outburst by now. Leenik goes to look outside at the stars that were supposed to be theirs.
-
Sleep and Leenik are at war. Every night is a battle.
The weeks, months even after he couldn't sleep. He couldn't without waking up to nightmares of every kind and every night he saw his brother die because of him in seemingly increasingly gruesome ways.
Not sleeping made being awake worse, made the colours sharper and the noise louder, made his already weak grasp on reality weaker. He heard Venton everywhere, knowing it wasn't him, his own head driving him mad.
The only sleep he knew was collapsing from exhaustion.
Eventually time passed and no matter how much Leenik picked at it the wound healed somewhat and sometimes he slept.
Nightmares were still common enough for him to be anxious every time bed time approached. So he read, indulged in the calming familiar anxiety repetitive formulaic fiction brought.
Sometimes he had good dreams about Venton, of beautiful summers in Rodea, about the best bounties they had brought in, soft quiet scenes of love they deserved to have.
He woke up feeling the emptiness worse those days, not being able to even look at himself in the mirror.
-
There is something so comfortable in not being him. Leenik picks up a million hobbies and drops them just as soon but dressing up he might just keep.
He’s good at it, it’s fun, most importantly for the rest of the crew, it's useful.
And if it also means that he gets to look into the mirror without having to bear his own face looking back at him, even better.
-
He falls into the same patterns over and over and over again. He can’t stop, like a derailed train, and it’s always him left to pick up the pieces of his mess.
Like pushing boulders uphill it soon starts to feel tedious, pointless, if you have to do it again every time.
He doesn’t know who he is without anymore, doesn’t know how to be whole, he doesn’t want to know.
It feels like he is a spectator in his own life as he sees himself grimly fall back into ruining his life in both small and big ways.
It’s too hard to mend it, he doesn’t know how to sow.
-
He had never thought of having children really, every day he didn't quite believe he was going to survive the week, much less enough to form a family.
The vornskr gets attached to him so quickly, it needs him, like Leenik once needed his brother.
So he names him Tony, the name feels like rubbing salt in the wound, something that is almost like comfort for him now.
I'll protect you he thinks,  even if I couldn't protect him.
-
He stares at the place where his arm used to be.
He can see it so vividly in front of him, Tony's arm a bloody mess dangling making it unable for him to pull himself up. He sees his own hand, the one he doesn't have anymore, not strong enough to pull him up either.
He stares at his arm and sits on the floor crying. The noise of the battle fading away to the background
Maybe I deserve this one.
-
Leenik Geelo has a family now, crammed into a small spaceship, full of unspoken issues and painful tension.
He holds on to it lightly, or pretends to.
The only way Leenik knows how to hold on is so tight it's suffocating, so loud it hurts, so pleading it is pathetic. He overcompensates in the other direction constantly, to the point where neither he nor the people he now loves know whether he cares about them or not.
He looks onto Tamlin who lost his mother, so small, so fragile. Now his responsibility too. Maybe he doesn't know quite yet what's to come for him, all the small ways loss cracks you. He is afraid of Tamlin in the same way he is afraid of his own true reflection. And as afraid as anyone is of his own children.
"What's the name of the kid again?" he asks and he can almost convince himself he doesn't know.
So many masks to Leenik Geelo, his name has lost meaning.
-
Everyone has a breaking point and eventually Leenik reaches his. As he falls to the floor crying, there are people there this time. To listen, to hug him, to comfort him. To share in his pain and not flinch as they see the worst parts of him. To hold his hand and pull him up as he starts the arduous climb from rock bottom.
He isn’t alone amongst the vast expanse of space anymore.
-
Time passes and loss never truly gets easier, but eventually one has to heal. Eventually he grows up and knows his brother wouldn't want this for him. More importantly he doesn't want this, not anymore.
Rebuilding yourself is a never ending process that often leads to hallways you had forgotten about, it's painful and thankless and while in it it never feels worth it. But it is, oh it is, when he is able to talk about Tony again and it doesn't feel like his throat is full of glass. When people can call him Nicky and it brings only the slightest twinge of melancholy, like pressure on a sore bruise. When he can go to Rodea again, a planet he had once thought he would never be able to bear to return.
Sometimes he still gets cut on his own shards, but this time he lets someone help mend it.
He can lay amongst the trees and for the first time lay his brother to rest in his mind.
"Goodbye Tony," he says, looking onto the millions of planets and galaxies above him, in wonder of how small he is compared to it all.
"I miss you." he says because it's true, he will never stop missing who had once felt like an infinite constant in his life.
"I hope you are well amongst the stars."

The Ultimate Boygroup Masterpost That Nobody Asked For Part 2/2
Part 1 (A - M)
I literally don’t have a life so here is every kpop boygroup ever (consisting of at least three members, besides maybe B.O.Y) sorted both alphabetically (kinda) + their debut date and linked to their latest (or any) MV.
Disbanded groups will be bolded. However since the status of some of these groups is kinda unclear and sometimes the information I found was mixed on wether or not they’re still a thing I MAY be wrong.
If there’s a group I forgot or if you notice a mistake in terms of debut date, disbandment, wether I put a group several times or anything else really; feel free to drop by my ask-box and tell me!
There are some groups like for example YGs ‘Treasure’ which I did NOT add to the list YET. This is because they have not officially had their debut yet.
I decided to add several project groups like UNB or SuperM. However this list does not include sub-units of already existing groups like the various NCT sub units (besides WayV), Nu’est W, High420 etc.

(au, fluff, fantasy, protective!dean, John, spells, !samjess, bobby, lucifer, crowley, benny, !dcbb 2013) recced by @antisocialarchives
Fantasy AU. Castiel De Angelus is a bladesmith finishing his apprenticeship in a sleepy seaside town and caring for his two younger brothers. But when he runs afoul of the new territorial governor, Metatron, he finds himself shanghaied and forced to serve at a remote desert fortification run by the boisterous Winchester family. This ancient outpost, carved out of a mountain by the legendary Men of Letters, is part of mankind's last line of defense against the mysterious desert-dwelling monsters known only as the Enemy. But the real enemy might just be the Winchesters's scheming rival, Lucifer. This one is pure Saturday afternoon serial: think Indy Jones meets Dune with a dash of Road Warrior and just a pinch of Kitchen Nightmares.
Dean (and Cas’) Top 13 Zepp Traxx by pantheon_of_discord [NC-17, 82,500 word count]
(su, angst, fluff, season 12, ending, pining!dean, pining!castiel, road trip, alternating POV, bottom!dean, music, Mary, !sameileen) recced by @pantheonofdiscord
Dean eases Baby down the frontage road, trying not to look in the rearview mirror as his home gets smaller and smaller behind him. He’s done this a hundred times. He’s driven down this road in the soft morning light, heading out to some little town in some distant corner of the country. This is a job like any other. “It’s not like we’re never coming back,” Cas says from the passenger seat. * Dean and Cas and the open road, to the tune of Led Zeppelin. A post-series story in thirteen parts.
Five Times Sam Didn’t Catch A Clue by twfftw [M, 5,100 word count]
(su, fluff, crack, humor, blindsided!sam, established relationship, secret affair, outside pov) recced by @alisajbrown
Sam has no idea Dean and Cas are in a relationship. Dean has no idea that Sam has no idea - has Sam not been paying attention?
Living the Dream by oceanbluecas and sixxstiel [M, 16,200 word count]
(su, angst, season 12, case fic, bunker, djinn dream, trapped, hunters, !sameileen, challenge fic) recced by susan
Djinn are nothing new to Dean. He’s been in this situation before, except this time, he knows it’s a hallucination. Here, monsters are nearly extinct, loved ones are alive again, and there’s a new generation of hunters in training. Everything is perfect, but perfect isn’t something Dean’s comfortable with. He sees Sam’s smile and feels Cas’s touch, and thinks of the eerie visions of another reality, one where he dangles helplessly in the dark, a ready meal for his captors. He’s determined to escape from the dream, because it’s a lie. It’s not real. Or is it?

Hannah Holland - Come Correct EP (Get Up Recordings)
Next up from Get Up Recordings is the Come Correct EP from UK heavy-hitter Hannah Holland. The package includes two original tracks and remixes of the title track from Christy Love, Lady Blacktronika, and Mystic Bill. Hannah Holland is a DJ, producer, and label boss. Her career began ten years ago with legendary residencies at seminal London clubs Trailer Trash, Batty Bass, and Dalston Superstore and regularly appears at Fabric London, Dance Tunnel, Ministry of Sound and Bugged Out! She has toured the world with her unique bass-heavy sound and has headlined with such luminaries as Steffi, Luke Solomon, Rodhad, Green Velvet, Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe, Jennifer Cardini, Chloe, and Josh Caffé. Her distinct productions, which fuse many styles into hybrids of house, techno, and bass, can be heard alongside an impressive roster of talent on her labels Batty Bass and Native City. In addition to remixes for The Knife, DJ Hell, and O Children, she has original releases on Nervous Records and Classic Music Co. One can also catch her delving deep on her monthly NTS radio show. “Come Correct” exemplifies what she does best as a DJ and producer, which is thinking of the dance floor as a runway. Rhythmic snares and percussion set to a back drop of driving bass lines sprinkled with diva one-liner vocals are a recipe for dance. The B-side, “Noir Gate”, is deep, dark bass-driven audio ecstasy. In addition to co-owning Get Up Recordings, Christy Love is also a dynamic DJ and producer. She is a sought-after DJ in NYC, largely because of her distinct sets comprising of a clever mixture of classic and modern house, bursting with driving beats and funky bass lines. In 2007, Christy and label partner W. Jeremy (under the moniker House of Stank) had their first two tracks released on DJ Pierre’s label, Afro Acid Digital, and later released “Make U Jack” and “Get Up, Yeah!” on Dust Traxx Chicago. In 2013, Christy ventured into solo territory with “I’m Goin’ Under” featuring Scissor Sisters front-woman Ana Matronic followed by “Paradise”, “Internal Waves”, and “Flashback”, all for Get Up Recordings. She has remixed for Hannah Holland, JD Samson & Men, Mikey V, Gina Breeze, and Nita Aviance of The Carry Nation. Her remix of “Come Correct” is a deep house version with beautifully orchestrated keys and a punchy bass line. Lady Blacktronika got her start in 1997 doing vocals for San Jose based DJ/producer Mattski. In 2006 she tried her hand at production and shortly thereafter released her first EP on Spanish house label Deep Explorer. Since then she has amassed an extensive discography which includes releases on her own imprints Sound Black Recordings and Sound Kemystry. Her sound is heavily influenced by the classic elements of old school Chicago and Detroit house. She recently concluded a world tour that included Panorama Bar, Corsica Studios, and Love Deep in London, Honey Soundsystem in San Francisco, CubScout and Juicy in L.A., Medellin, Columbia, as well as an Acid Crew event at the Breakfast Club in Tel-Aviv. Her remix of “Come Correct” is gritty, grimy, tech goodness. Mystic Bill is a true preacher of the ‘traditional’ Chicago/Detroit house and techno sound. Bill’s introduction to the dance music scene began during his teen years growing up in Miami. It wasn’t until Bill landed a job at Flamingo Record Pool, which was ran by Bill Kelly (WMC fame) and Richard McVay, that he discovered house music. When house and acid promos from Chicago started arriving, he felt so in tune with what was happening in Chicago that he needed to be there. After frequent visits, he made the move, and shortly thereafter was spinning at parties around the city. His first residency was in the Boiler Room at the Shelter with Johnny Fiasco, and later places like The Vault with Derrick Carter and Mark Farina and Normandy’s with Ralphie Rosario. His first music production was a remix of Kay Ladrae’s Lack of Love on Demand Records. Earlier production work can be found on labels such as Trax Records, Relief, Club House, and Swing Street. Here, Bill gives two acid mixes of Hannah’s track, a pumping jam and a stripped-down dub, both full of pure musical delight.
L.A. Williams (The Last Souls Of Techno) – “Mystic Bill’s Function Dub rocked it!” Lee Guthrie (Wiggle) – “The original and Mystic Bill mixes are dope.” Steve ‘Griffo’ Griffiths (Deep Frozen) – “Phew! Brutal stuff. I’m going with Christy Love’s Remix – a heady brew of old school jackin’ style house.” Thomas White (Natural Rhythm) – “Mystic Bill with the acid kill.” DJ P-Rez (Not So Fast Records) – “Awww Yeah! I’m all over this.” Velanche (Club 91 Radio Show) – “The Lady Blacktronika and Mystic Bill mixes are fiyah!” Ulysses (Neurotic Drum Band) – “Loving the acid.” DJ Hal (EQ Magazine) – “Top Acid House.” DJ Morpheus (Lysergic Factory Radio Show) – “I like the original of Come Correct and Noir Gate.” Tariq Ziyad (Planet Rave) – “Another sensational release from this awesome imprint.”

SON JAEHAN
AGE: Twenty-One COMPANY: Spotlight Productions POSITION: Trainee FACECLAIM: Yeo Changgu “Yeo One” PLAYED BY: Izzy
Son Jaehan didn’t originally want to be an idol. It’s a fact that would surprise most people, given his is already one of the longest training periods of anyone in the industry, and counting. For Jaehan, becoming an idol trainee had been an escape, both from boredom, and from a harsher treatment. Jaehan was the youngest son of five children, born to the Chairman of a large tech company, and therefore, born a chaebol. You would think that this would automatically guarantee him a great life, but it did not. His parents’ marriage began to break down shortly after he was born, his mother also developing severe postnatal depression, and almost from birth, he landed the blame for all his family’s problems. Due to this, he was neglected terribly by his parents, who only paid attention to him to belittle him, and was ostracised and picked on by the younger two of his siblings, who sensed their parents displeasure with their brother. He had everything anyone could want for in material items, but received no love from his family.
When he was 11, Jaehan learned that his parents were planning to send him to boarding school in Hong Kong. This development was beyond anything that they had tried before, and the news distressed the boy greatly – it was one thing to feel alone at home, it was another to be in a foreign country where he didn’t speak the language and knew no one. Though he’d shown no interest in the entertainment industry previously, he begged his oldest brother (who was much older than him and the only one of his siblings who genuinely cared about him) to help him convince his father to let him become a trainee at Spotlight Productions, which is brother agreed to do. His father also agreed – he was one of Spotlight’s main financial backers, meaning he would not have to pay for Jaehan’s tutoring or accommodating, unlike he would to send him to international boarding school, and as long as Jaehan was out of his hair, he didn’t really care where he went. The move to the dorms was still mildly terrifying, and most of the other trainees either tried to suck up to him for who his father was, or poured scorn over how he’d talentlessly bought his way in, but at least he would get to remain in Seoul.
Though Jaehan wasn’t originally interested in being an idol, the more he trained, the more interested and invested he became in it. He found that in dancing and singing, more so the latter, he had some natural talent, which he honed to a high standard over the years, and also learnt to rap decently through teaching. Steadily, he earned back the respect of his peers, making up for a somewhat lack of talent with pure hard work. Unfortunately, in terms of what was concerned ‘hard work’, Jaehan didn’t know when to stop. He ‘knew’ he was severely lacking, or at least thought he was – being either totally disregarded or told you’re useless and the cause of everyone’s problems by your own family since childhood will do that to a kid – so Jaehan took it upon himself to make up for original lack in talent through other things he could control more easily, such as physical appearance through diet. It took a couple of years for anyone to notice, but at the age of fifteen, Jaehan was officially diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and, after originally refusing to cooperate, was eventually forced to begin treatment. By the time he was eighteen, he was deemed by doctors to have suitably recovered enough to return to full time training, but the treatment had prevented him from having the opportunity to debut with TRAXX (something he didn’t take well).
Since then, he’d mostly been okay – that was, until the second season of Idol Project was announced. Jaehan was an anticipated trainee due to his long training period, and had been expected by Spotlight to participate to increase publicity, but this backfired. In the stress and pressure of preparing to go up against trainees that he believed would be far better than him in every way, he began to fall back into old eating habits, and although there wasn’t enough time for him to become properly unwell, his minor relapse was quickly spotted by others and Spotlight pulled him from the show before his name could even be announced so he could re-enter treatment before he got any worse. Thankfully, they didn’t stop him training, this time, and he’s now mostly got it under control again, so he’s currently working hard towards finally debuting, just like everyone else.
In personality, Jaehan is a sweet kid. He’s been subjected to much unpleasantness in his life, and knows how much it sucks, so he tries his best to be as kind and nice and possible to everyone he meets. Originally, he was very wary of new people, as as soon as they found out who he was, many people automatically sought to gain something from him. However, as he’s gotten older, he’s become less suspicious, or at least begun to care less – in this industry, most people want something from you, so it’s useless worrying about it. He cares a lot about his friends and is always inclusive of others. Jaehan could be called the moodmaker among his friends, as he is always amusing, optimistic and excited, at least outwardly. However, although that is largely his real personality, it is also an outward front that he presents often when he feels the exact opposite. His hardships have and continue to affect him, and he struggles with deep-rooted issues of self-esteem, self-worth and body image. He is concerned that people wouldn’t like him with all his fault (of which he thinks there are far too many) and so he often isolates himself when he is struggling badly, so he doesn’t have to expend energy pretending he’s not.
The rivalry concerns Jaehan greatly. Not in terms of personal relationships with others, so much – he’s happy to be friends with people from any company – but he finds the way they are compared very stressful and constantly worries that his debut won’t be considered as good as the other rookie groups from Radioactive and DS, and so takes the rivalry in terms of talent and success very seriously.

Mercurial
After making her debut on Freq Traxx, Volume 1, Philadelphia-based producer Jay Hill returns to Superfreq for a full release, this time in collaboration with up- and-coming Scot, Arctor. Hill has landed on King Street Sounds and iRecords with her highly hypnotic sounds and is very much one of the rising stars of the modern scene. Her partner here is Arctor, and their collaborative single finds plenty of fresh new ground in tech house. Standout opener ‘Mercurial’ is built on solid beats and splashy hi hats. Real tension comes from the warm, rich chords and some trademark Superfreq trippiness is delivered from the acid melodies and spoken word vocals. This is a timeless piece that sounds perfectly retro and modern all at once. Asad Rizvi is a UK artist with a rich history that dates back 20 years. Asad's work as Silverlining, focussing on his darker, dubbier and more dancefloor orientated material, has had releases on labels such as Tag, Eukahouse, and Japan’s Ing Recordings. Here his brilliant remix starts with a warm, shuffling house groove littered with micro samples that have you immediately hooked. When the bassline drops the club will wiggle until the chords lift you into pure bliss. Label boss Mr.C then steps up with a remix that takes proceedings back to the offbeat, with old school electro rhythm sequences containing hypnotic cow bells and driving claps. C cleverly chops the vocals to create a different slant on the original song, but one littered with old school 303 vibes that are perfect for club detonation. This is another forward looking package from the always on point Superfreq. Tracklist: 1. Mercurial (Original Mix) 2. Mercurial (Silverlining Remix) 3.
