Entrapta & Light Hope (or Entrapta/Light Hope?)

okay so I forgot I queued this post for reblog after that tweet from Noelle confirming Marahope as Word of God and then I saw it pop up today and I really needed to put this somewhere that wasn’t cluttering OP’s already fantastic Marahope post.

It occurs to me now that Entrapta would be Extremely Horny On Main for Light Hope like

I’d kinda for some reason been thinking Adora wouldn’t bring Entrapta to the Castle because Entrapta would be like a kid who got permission from their mom to eat all the Halloween candy at once--and then I realized that no, Entrapta literally never had a chance to be invited to the Castle before the Sword was broken. So here are some thoughts, in no particular order:

Adora probably brings Entrapta to the Castle either as kind of a thank-you present after the war is over OR because they decide they want to dismantle the Heart’s infrastructure for good OR they just want to figure out what they can repurpose and use for themselves (Entrapta wants to Build More Spaceships, or maybe just needs to repair Darla)

Entrapta is absolutely like a kid who got permission from their mom to eat all the Halloween candy at once

Adora thinks this may have been a terrible mistake and Catra is probably laughing at her because She Warned Her

It maybe took some time for Adora to come around to the idea of dismantling the Crystal Castle (specifically) because even though Light Hope hurt her profoundly--she kidnapped her! She stole her from her family! She lied to her and used her!--she knows that Light Hope was as much a pawn of the First Ones and just as hurt by them--in her own way--as Adora herself was (achieving a kind of consciousness and caring and then having that taken away from her and being forced to hurt someone she’d come to care for).

It’s, in a lot of ways, a semi-parallel to Adora’s conflicted feelings about Shadow Weaver’s death. The Castle was where she learned how to be She-Ra in a formal way, where she started to learn about her past, where she started to feel less lost. She wanted to be friends with Light Hope, and retrospectively, maybe, she wonders if they could’ve been, if not for the First Ones’ intervention in her programming.

So the idea of potentially dismantling Light Hope or the infrastructure of the Castle makes her sad and could bring back painful memories, so she avoids it, at least at first

If anyone is going to treat Light Hope and the Castle and all its painful past with the dignity and respect it deserves, though, it’s Entrapta

Except Entrapta is reduced to (alternately) incoherent, jelly-kneed awe at just the physical structure of the Castle, and faster-than-the-speed-of-sound, gotta-poke-everything-and-see-what-it-does DELIGHT

Like i’d say “hyperactive” but hyperactive is nowhere near a strong enough word

... lbh she probably comes on the spot

At some point during the poking, Light Hope is reactivated, and once they wrap up with the “I-thought-you-were-dead, are-you-gonna-kill-me-now” drama with Adora, Light Hope is Very Consternated at this weird Etherian poking around in her wiring

I’m torn between “Entrapta would be not at all bothered by Light Hope’s manifestation and her having a kind of conscious will of her own” and “this might set off some of her uncertainties around Dealing With People because she does dearly love what a beautiful machine Light Hope is and she wants Light Hope to approve of her and oh this could be complicated for her”

but like, I’m p. certain absolutely nothing could deter her from trying to make friends with Light Hope and also touch all this intact First Ones tech, she probably doesn’t sleep for like two weeks

sooner or later (sooner than later, probably), Light Hope realizes just what a gifted engineer Entrapta is and is also probably low-key thrilled to have someone other than a sword-happy jock to interact with and decides maybe this one is okay

at some point, this becomes “yeah no I’m keeping this one”

Entrapta is decidedly Not Mara, but maybe Light Hope sees something in the way she interacts with her environment--the consideration she gives equally to everything, biological and technical both, or the deep care she (to Light Hope) clearly displays in her work

Mara would’ve liked her, Light Hope decides. Been perplexed by her, but liked her. And Mara was unfailingly kind, even to people she was bewildered by--after all, she was bewildered by Light Hope, at first

there’s a three-way fork in the road here and the fork is either “this is strictly platonic but Deeply Meaningful”, “this is queerplatonic aF”, or “There’s Something Romantic Afoot Here”. All have room for as much angst, bonding, cuteness, worldbuilding, and all-hours conversations as my fic-writing self could ever want

I’m a little hazy on the details just yet, but omg, they would be the Best Pals Ever, and Entrapta would have so much fun working on with Light Hope

Maybe eventually this leads to Light Hope and Adora reconciling and getting to be friends for real? I’d like that a lot

BUT REGARDLESS. The scenario OP lays out in the post I linked/reblogged (where Entrapta builds Light Hope a body) would in my mind go something like this:

Entrapta: *builds Light Hope a body* Entrapta: *accidentally seduces Light Hope*

and that’s it that’s really all I have to add

How to Grow Your Witchblr Blog

In the past, I have received asks about how to run a witchblr blog or how to gain followers who interact with you, so I decided that a post about it was long overdue. Please note that these are things that I personally have seen be effective, however results will always vary!

Research is your best friend! Don’t rely on only tumblr for such research. Read some witchy books and magazines. Go to your local metaphysical store and learn through practice. Here is my post of tips about signs of a bad witcy book!

Create original content! This helps with creating a brand and a household name when it comes to resources. When people reblog stuff, their audience, if they like the post, will follow the OP of the original post. It will be your URL that they click on. Original content can be anything your heart desires, but try to keep it relevant to witchcraft! Such stuff can include spells, sigils, tips, positivity posts, aesthetic posts, or even divination stuff! Try to make a new post at least once a week.

On that note, queuing up reblogged posts in a good idea as well to fill up some of the time between your posts. If you just post your OC once a week, people might think your blog is dead when seeing you haven’t posted in a week or so. Make sure to read everything you queue up to ensure that you aren’t promoting unethical, unsafe, or unlawful activities. Here is some stuff you should look out for:

grave robbing

unethical treatment of remains

planting invasive flora or releasing invasive fauna

cultural appropriation or promoting practices of a closed religion or practice if you are not a member of said religion or culture (e.g. Aztec and Tibetan monk practices)

Unsafe practices with blood work such as sharing or reusing needles

Animal abuse (vegan cat and dog diets, getting your pets high, piercing animal ears, etc.)

Unsafe candle/fire practices such as sleeping with candles lit or ignoring burn bans

Unsafe spirit work

Harassment of a person, especially other witchblr blogs

Promoting anti-vaccination ideology and essential oils over legitimate and necessary medical care. This goes double if OP is a parent.

Stealing out of non-necessity

Remember- as a blog with an audience including minors, you need to realize that everything you post will have an influence.

Post relevant content for events! For example, make Litha posts around Litha, reblog bread recipes for Lughnasadh, make an informational post about the effects of a lunar eclipse a few days before one happens

Use tags! These will make your posts appear in the tags when people are going down them because not everyone looks for content on their dashboard. The most popular ones are “witchblr”, “witchcraft”, and “witches of tumblr”. ALSO, tag any and all trigger warnings for the big stuff

Try to separate your witchblr blog and your personal blog. Someone who is following you for your spells probably doesn’t want to see a Naruto running meme from you on their dash.

Interact with others! Comment positive things on posts you reblog and be nice! Compliment (in a not creepy way) on a person’s selfie. Remember: debating is good, but invalidating another’s practice is bad!

BE PATIENT! It takes time to build a following. It took me about 3 months to reach 1000 followers. This is something you need to devote time to if you want to be serious about it. It is recommended that you think of your posts ahead of time and brainstorm, even. Making drafts to revise is advised as well.

Now, no one needs to be this serious when it comes to their witchy blog. It’s great to have one for fun and sometimes just have it as an online grimoire. This post is for those who just want to make their presence known within the witchblr community.

At noon (PDT) I have a reblog set up in the queue. I’m writing this a month before you’re seeing it. I queued it for Halloween because it fits, but...I got VERY uneasy when reading it. Some was a little...TOO familiar.

It starts with:

Irish people; The faeries aren’t real

Irish people; No fucking way will I go in that faerie ring

When you see that, there are two things I should tell you. First, it’s a LONG post. Because while the text above is the entire post from OP, people have...added to it. Added a LOT to it. If you don’t want to read a long post, or don’t want to read tales about...not ghosts, necessarily, but...things...then you may want to get your scrolling finger handy when you see that.

I’m writing this on September 28th because...it may not be a good idea for me to read that post again if I later remember that I wanted to post a warning about it and want to remind myself what I’m warning you about. Not that the post will leave my memory. It won’t. It hit too close to forget, and I’m hoping it doesn’t set off a long wave of nightmares like some of my past personal experiences have.

I know there are things out there that I cannot explain other than to say “ghosts” or perhaps “demons” or “spirits” or what have you. I don’t think any of those words are quite right for the post coming later.

I’ve had experiences, which those of you who have known me for a while have probably read about on here. If not, there’s a brief recap of a couple of my experiences a couple years ago at https://ahnsael.tumblr.com/post/138202074744/so-what-are-the-things-that-have-made-you-believe. I probably told them better on the old blog, before I started over with this one, but...it’ll give the general idea. And there are more that I don’t have in that post. I don’t remember if I’ve told them or not. After reading the post that will be here three hours after this one, I don’t feel up to telling them.

I’m going to have a hard enough time sleeping today (today being a little over a month ago, from the time you read this) as it is.

Because the other thing about the long post that will post later today: to me, it’s scary as hell. Because it doesn’t come across as your standard “2 spoopy” silly ghost story. It comes off as a genuine collection of experiences with things that are perhaps better left un-messed with. I’ve messed with things in the past, and one night it almost cost me my sanity (for all I know, it actually DID and everything since has been a fever dream).

I’m not saying there’s a zero% chance that I would do it again. Some days I feel braver than others. But right now, I’m kinda freaked out.

And it doesn’t help that I live in an area of old abandoned barns, 100+year-old buildings (one of which I work in), and stories of this type brewing under the surface, but never quite spoken out loud. I want to research what may be here, but I’m also a little worried about what I may find out. Perhaps by the time this posts, I’ll have learned something.

RDC3

I don’t think I fully admitted to myself that this con was a different beast long after it was over. After swanning through BTRDC last October, chatting to tons of people and getting to all the photo and autog sessions and Q&As on time and having time to chill and people-watch, I did expect this one to be less relaxed, but I didn’t expect a 3-day endurance catharsis.

Friday

Every guest who walked onto the stage at the opening ceremony appeared momentarily stunned, all wide eyes and “woahh” expressions. Except Bryan, of course, who clearly wanted to crowdsurf but had to settle for high-five running through the crowd instead. For the rest of them, I guess they genuinely hadn’t expected quite so many people or quite so much noise and enthusiasm.

Met my hero @bansheegrahamtao during registration, cracked up at her bag:

As for the M&G, well, as @existingcharactersdiehorribly remarked midway through our suffering, it’s a tough tough thing, having to sit around drinking whiskey and wine, waiting for Bryan Fuller to come talk to you. Especially tough when Ellen, Hugh, Aaron and Scott all stop by for a brief chat at some point as well. I remember realizing around midnight that we’d be there for three more hours at least and wondering if I should go to my room for a quick nap, but that’s just not how it’s done, so I napped right at the table instead. When Bryan did get there he was greeted by a sight unlike any other, leading him to grab one of the straws and wave it about and tell us an AG production story about the sex scene between Salim and the jinn. The size and shape of the VFX jinn penis had to be juuust right because they couldn’t have a goofy-looking penis in a sexy scene, but production was hellbent on 12 inches because they had made some odd assumptions. Mousa Kraish the jinn actor was also more than fine with 12′, which is when Bryan stepped in and firmly said no that’s ridiculous, we’ll go with 9′. He then showed us a picture of the flame-eyed ifrit with the vetoed penis on his phone. We wrapped up around 3:30 am on a sobering SOTL vs Will note that sent everyone into black despair, but All Seems Well Now after some panicking and course correction. He wants to write for them forever and ever, gotcha, we’re good, whew.

Saturday

What even are alarms and wake up calls, we don’t hear them and sleep straight through breakfast and the first photo op like real men. Shrugged it off assuming they’d let me do Aaron and Scott on Sunday and queued for Bryan instead, got a nice hug and a concerned “did you get any rest?” from this miracle of a man, who apparently made a point of inquiring this of everyone he remembered from the night before, which if you’re Bryan is probably easily all 200 of us.

Demore turned out to be the breakout guest of the weekend. I say this as someone who is so hypersensitive to the quality of public speaking/presenting/live performance/showmanship that I’ll walk out if something is so off it starts bothering me. Case in point: the crowd fluffer later that night; literally 45 seconds into his routine I noped out of the room and didn’t return until he was done. With Demore, it was immediately apparent it would be a smooth sailing throughout. I don’t know if he came prepared or if he is just that good, but there was a friendly and warm quality to his command of the audience that I’ve never experienced before. I wish someone *glares at self* had recorded the Q&A, because I’ve since forgotten most of the specifics. He made a very #relatable point about how both Hannibal and Tobias prize authentic expression above all else. Overall I am left with an impression of a nice balance between thoughtful and playful, funny and profound. Bonus: amazing moment that was more than the sum of its goofy parts. I got goosebumps.

Another thing that stands out from the afternoon is Hugh freaking Dancy with his freaking word choice poetry. I don’t know if it only seemed this way to my ESL brain but he did that thing where he paused for a moment while appearing to pick a word and then the word he went for was on point, and not in a suffocatingly completist way but rather in a fresh and elegant way. So basically he’s a terrible man and I’ve been very distracted. I’ll even give Sabbath’s Theater a go, that’s how bamboozled I am by the whole thing.

I won’t recap Bryan and Hugh’s Q&As since you can actually listen to them thanks to the brilliant @pka42. The highlight for me was Bryan talking about how he would have revisited Miriam Lass given the chance: as a law enforcement officer too traumatized to continue active duty, she would have been hidden away in some FBI basement doing clerical work so the sight of her wouldn’t make anyone uncomfortable, and the rhetorical question here would be whether Hannibal made a better family for her than the FBI *cue instant anguished Will and Abigail feels, oof*

Another highlight was Bryan referring to Sean’s “time to wrap this up” gesture as a “sexy dancing fingers thing”, which evolved into “the nipple thing” by Sunday. Bless.

Was seated too far back to actually watch the Fannibal musical so buried myself in the booklet instead, pausing every now and again to loudly exclaim “NO BUT ACTUAL HUGH DANCY IS WATCHING THIS”. Loved the firefly from the costume competition, shame it got no mention.

Sunday

Things I learned Sunday morning: a Bryan&Hugh sandwich grips you like a vice, whereas being in the middle of an Aaron&Scott sandwich is a much squishier experience.

The rest of the day is kind of a blur. Started seriously flagging so skipped the first two Q&As in favor of sitting on a bench staring dazedly into middle distance, which is when @louiselux and @emungere materialized next to said bench in a fine example of just how surreal things can get at a Hannibal con, <3.

At the Q&A, most of which I spent in the question line, Bryan went on being highly #relatable telling us about how he lives his life in constant fear of mediocrity, Hugh cracked jokes about Will possibly being into Austrian chamber music (or was this Saturday, who even remembers anymore). Bryan was honest about the things he would have done differently in S1-S2 but didn’t venture into S3 territory at all. Still too soon and too fresh, I suppose.

Glad I had a quiet moment sitting down with @byronicwoman before that brutal autog session started, or was that Saturday? *cries* I have no idea.

Two things I have to say before I bring this meandering report to a close:

1. Since I listed all of the low points of this con in the Gothic post I feel like I have to point out that there are highs that balance all of them out xD Aside from the obvious thrill of meeting Bryan and co, there’s really nothing quite like The Second Wave of Fannibal Recognition where you’ve exchanged real names with someone to no effect and then you exchange Twitter/Tumblr handles and a lot of AAAAAAHHHHhshfsflskdfjhsdf ensues. It’s fascinating to see the people behind the writing and the art. It’s fun when previously two-dimensional things come alive in the real world. It’s a real trip to get drunk on something pink and sit in a cloud of Bigarade xD

2. Those of you I got very little or no quality time with besides hurried hellos, hugs, snippets of conversation and trying to survive the con right alongside you, and I won’t tag you all - firstly wtf, secondly how frustrating, thirdly ilu anyway and will talk to you anyway so whateva, we’ll make it up next Feb, unless of course Mads is there in which case we’ll all just huddle together and cry, <3.

Finally, a helpful tip: the only way to avoid PCD is to actively preempt it in any way you can. What I did was get together with @lactobacille, @meres-argias, @rav3nsta9 and @fourth-axis for some ~thematic entertainment:

Went wandering around Sir John Soane’s, well, mind palace, complete with oubliettes, weird little recesses, moveable planes, holes in the floor and a slightly demented-looking collection of antiquities and paintings.

Naturally could not walk past a museum of anatomy and surgery. Check out the light and air and color on these nervous and circulatory systems!

All in all, some seriously good, funny times <3.
