In a crazy twist of events, got to see Riccardo Sinsi perform Mistoffelees TWICE this weekend! He is, of course, an incredibly expressive Misto and throws himself into the role 200%.

Since I was sitting right in the center at this show I get the Stare Down during Naming of Cats and once again is he a Hissy Boy! You starting staring at me first, Riccardo!

(Also I adore the Vienna Makeup but Sinisi looks particularly gorgeous in his)

Perfect view of Beautiful Aulerstrap on the Car Boot. That man goes alllllll the way down to practically kneeling HOW!!

Dominick Hees once again Gives His All as Tugger (he only gets more and more feral as the week goes on and it is a delight). During his solo during Alt Deuteronimus he goes *up* instead of down and his voice is particularly tender. Auler holds the High Note So Long and So Sweetly. Again just the sweet relationship between these too-Aulerstrap tilting his head when he hears Tugger and shushing Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer so he can focus on Tugger being Serious for Once--!

Munkustrap's Pekes and Pollicles Holds My Heart. Aulerstrap's finger wiggles as he frantically beckons them to Bark Louder!!

Watching Sinisi softly blow out that Spolight and watching the Stars roll back as well 🥺🥺 (Tugger thinks this is the most Amazing thing he has ever seen)

Raffish crew my Abused, Drunk Darlings.

An absolute honor to see Barbara Obermeier perform Grizabella one more time -- both renditions of "Memory" brought the house down. Just the most exquisite voice. Her Grizabella is worn down my life and experience, and she brings great pathos but also Hope to this role. Loved seeing her and her well deserved ovation.

Tommie Luyben being a Delight as Carbucketty and Jo Lucy as Jenny!

This was Meghan Peploe-Williams Last Show and she was very emotional during the curtain call. I've been able to see her several times and my *God* is she good!! Definitely a stand out dancer and a delight to watch as a Cat. Obviously this show meant a great deal to her even in the short time she was part of this cast and everyone was very sweet with her at the closing.

The audience was absolutely on *fire* for this show. Would not stop applauding during the finale--standing ovation all the way until the music stopped (I was so hoping the kitties would come back out but nope)

So magical to sit down to watch this show after assuming in April I would Never See It Again. Still riding that incredible high.

(This was also the show when I did a Stage Door Reconnaissance and discovered how lovely the cast is when meeting fans.)

Probably more I'm forgetting but I'll add more as I remember. Beautiful, unforgettable night.

Part two of me liveblogging this recording of the Mexico 1991 production of Cats !

The Moments of Happiness.

Coricopat, Tantomile, and Sillabub/Jemima have their moment. Jemima's voice is really nice here. This part always touches me, along with the instrumentals after.

Sillabub/Jemima snaps out of it a few beats after her solo and falls back down. Gets some pats from the Mystical Twins.

Damn this part. Solemn and somber is all I can call it.

Time for Gus and Jelly to sadden things up. Her voice is very gentle here, and she's pretty. Gus patted her paw on his shoulder with his own, nice detail. He nods as she sings. They look like a married couple here and I'm ip for it.

Gus' voice is a little gruff, old, and it's very telling. I can get the message without knowing what they're saying. I've memorized the lyrics anyhow.

Maybe it's the lighting, but I notice little pads on his paws? If they are there, that's another detail I like.

I like the second part of his song best, after he sings, when Jelly picks things up again.

Listening for him to say "Rumpus Cat" but they may be using another name. Or maybe he'll bust out as Growltiger?

He's gotten up and is passionate about his memories.

OHHHH now that's an opening. Everything goes dark as something lowers and then he laughs, revealed as Growltiger when the spotlight illuminates him again ! Exciting. Maybe I won't skip the song this time.

They lowered an entire ship set, this is actually cool. I always do love this tune.

Raffish Crew fucking things up, kind of here for it honestly.

GROWLTIGER JUST SOCKED MISTO SQUARE IN THE FACE ! And Tugger and the others!

He's kicking ass. Racism bad though :( Can't understand the lyrics as they're sung but I know them.

In comes Griddlebone for their deut. She's so fluffy.

This number is really cool honestly, wish it could be rewritten to omit the objectifying parts.

They're not bringing out the cushion for them to practically fuck on, instead they're on the ship set. Really cool set.

Growltiger being an ass and touchy to Griddlebone who just loves him LOL.

I wish they'd sing Billy Mccaw.

This gives me the interpretation that Griddle was tricking him, serving as a distraction for them to get him. Then again, she took a fall off the ship, so who's to tell?

Getting some fighting action before finally Growltiger is put out of his misery. He falls off the ship too. Kind of deserved, not going to lie.

Woah, just noticed they lowered a new background along with the set. The moon is a crescent.

There's another cut and Gus' song ends with the melody from before Growltiger. He sings again, in the dark with a light shining solely on him. He saunters off the stage as the lighting returns. Ship set has lifted back up.

SKIMBLESHANKS THE RAILWAY CAT! THE CAT OF THE RAILWAY TRAIN!

They're so high energy and I love it !!!

Skimble shakes his finger at Victoria for causing a little ruckus.

The instrumentals are interesting. Loving the light chugging of a train they've replicated for it.

HIS EARS WIGGLE SO MUCH

They're making the train without the sheet and it's really cool to look at. A sheet comes down from one of the props to make the body of the train. It looks metal or something? Can't tell but it's cool.

Aaaaand it all falls apart as Skimble is showing Deut. But he doesn't care, he's on his merry way with the rest of the song.

I fear with the shortness of this video Misto's number may not be in it.

The number restarts before — CRASH! It all goes dark and Macavity's ominous laugh rings out. They're using another name for him, which Demeter shouts into the darkness.

Deuteronomy is kidnapped by his hench cats and him.

Macavity's number !

Demeter is giving a really good show. I like it, very sinister and telling of her times with him by the dance. Lore fuel IMO

Bombalurina is really attractive, as per usual. I see them as a great couple here.

Macavity's girls have come to dance

Holy shit the recording is glitching out and there's a ton of static visually and in the audio, very unexpected but very much like Macavity. There's a break and we get a glimpse of them still singing his song, but it's overtaken by more glitches of blue, black, and static. Audio gets wavy there. Creepy, but fitting.

Recording clears up and they mention Mungojerrie and Griddlebone, song continuing before finishes.

Recording cuts to Macavity "returning" Deuteronomy. Demeter instantly senses something is off with him and gets all the cats away from this fake Deut.

She pounces, revealing him as Macavity!

Evil King fucking things up and being the real life of the Ball LOL. He takes up Demeter, who is rescued from his grip.

Macavity Fight.

Intense. He's really going at them, Munk is crumpled on the ground in pain for a minute as another cat attacks him. Macavity runs up and cuts all the lights in a flash of electricity.

"Macavity's not there..."

Demeter and Munkustrap groom each other in front of the light source, recovering from that frightening encounter.

Tugger introduces Mistoffelees!

Only nine minutes of the recording left, will we get the full song? At least hoping to, it's my favorite.

It's really dark, asides from the light being shone on Tugger. Small cut, things are lighting up again as Mistoffelees enters the scene by wire.

No "Presto!" but I'm really happy to see this. Misto is blasting things up around the stage. Tugger affectionately removes his coat.

Munk is singing the verse, which is surprising. Love his two boys hyping him up. Might I add Mistoffelees looks really cool here?

Tugger also sings some parts with him.

Gay ribbon :D They dance together, arms linked !!!

Finally all the Misto shots I wanted. Even his chest fur is sparkly.

He does his little dance Thing with Tugger, dances some more, then comes over to him again. To which his loving boyfriend/#1 hype man ruffles his chest fur with his tail.

Conjuring Turns!! He's really holding the spins for a minute. Audience should've cheered.

Tugger is so excited.

Instead of a second verse after this pause, Misto cuts right to the chase and pulls the red sheet out of that hole in the old Ford.

Misto chooses a volunteer, Cassandra I'll assume. They do the version of the trick where he spreads the red sheet over where the pipe is, and drags it to the center of the stage.

He does some hand motions over the rising sheet before tugging it off to reveal Old Deuteronomy! All the lighting has returned.

Misto excitedly leaps into Deuteronomy's open arms without waiting for Tugger to finish his slow, "Oh, well, I never was there ever..."

Misto and Deut share a really sentimental look before he jumps down and the song picks up. All the cats swarm him, before they line up and link hands. Misto claims his spot between Tugger and Deut, while Munk is at Deut's other side.

This song makes me so happy. Deut is skipping to the tire with Munk and Tugger, and a cat does some flips across the stage.

More turns! Faster this time.

They end the song by lifting up the magical tuxedo, and then he does the light trick, blowing it out.

The recording ends just as Memory starts. I suppose thats it.

Overall, really good production. Super satisfied with it although we don't get to see the ending, probably since we got Misto's number to close it. I'm curious to see Jellicle Songs and the ending though. If anyone has recordings of those, please do send 'em my way.

If I had to rate it, I would give it a 9.5/10.

All the designs really grew on me, it's an amazing performance. Give it a watch sometime.

Did the thing where my notes were taken in app during breaks again.

Act 1

-Cori and Tanto grinning at each other after they do the run up the wall lift

-m&r following after Jenny when she comes out of the car, mimicking her movements while she goes to “wake up” Pounce and Bill

-pounce comes out to start tapping first of all the beetles and Jenny sternly sends him back because he’s taking her spotlight

-Tugger kisses Jemima’s paw right after the first leg raise

-Tugger gets Alonzo backed up on the car boot and shimmies in his face and Alonzo is Uncertain

-Munkustrap conferring with Bomba over Demeter singing and Bomba being like “Nah let her” before she goes to join in

-Munk and Alonzo touch paws almost the whole of Demeter’s solo

-Cori kinda winking at Bill during Bustopher as they listen to him sing

-When Munk gets Tugger to come down during the Old Deut duet, Tugger sort of rolls his paw around Munk’s before he’ll touch it and Munk swats at him with a big “oh, you” grin

-M&R waving so much to Deut

-Tugger giving the BIGGEST BOW for Deut

-Tugger wiping the tire before Deut sits down

-M&R think Tugger is hilarious when interrupting Munk at the start of Pekes even if nobody else does

-adorbs moment with Bill and Cori where Bill tries to push Cori’s leg flat on the ground but it keeps bouncing back up because of how Cori is sitting

-Cori and Gus Jr have a big nuzzle

-I am reminded that last time I saw this Admetus’s shoebox got knocked sideways when they all jumbled to a halt

-Jerrie gives Tugger a fist bump for his bagpipes

-Jenny getting up to congratulate Alonzo on playing Rumpus Cat

-During Macavity scare Munk blocks Admetus who has to look through his legs

-Tugger coming back out for the ball and giving a fist bump with Rumpel before coming down to join the group

-After Tugger’s line, Alonzo leans in and noses at his name and then Tugger passes to take his spot

-Tugger collecting his boys for each of his led dance spots (Bomba and Tugger step) they’re all just so happy to be there

-Tugger def laid his paw over Cori after wavy paws at the orgy

-Sinisi and Cotti are both quite small; or possibly Auler is just a Big Boi because they’re like half a head shorter than Auler and Sinisi is at least 5’8”

Act 2

-Tugger came out quietly this time

-Between Moments and Gus, M&R AND Admetus go to Tugger and push their heads into his thighs and he brings them in for hugs

-M&R attempted to leave when they realized Gus was coming out; Deuteronomy had to glare them back onto the stage; Rumpel is clearly more upset than Jerrie

-M&R go to Tugger after M&R are chastised by Deut and get comforting pets

-Tantomile and Coricopat do everything in tandem, including scratching ears. (They thus constantly look at each other to make sure the other is or isn’t doing something and it’s really funny.)

-As Mungo and Tugger are getting ready to head off the stage for Growltiger, Jerrie drops his head in Tugger’s lap and Tugger starts grooming; Jerrie’s leg goes up and Tugger grooms the leg

-I am reminded of a moment from the last show, where raffish!Mungojerrie kneels on the barrel with raffish!Misto to his right and he leaned on Misto’s hat, pushing it down over his eyes as they were singing. I can’t believe I forgot to add that to the last post.

-Tugger swoops in to try and bring Gus back as he fades; Jerrie kind of looks at him for guidance

-Electra and Bill nuzzle up to Tugger as they come back into the stage, he looks like he’s explaining what’s wrong with Gus

-When Deuteronomy suggests Skimble to cheer up Rumpel after Gus, Jerrie and Tugger have a moment

-All the cats crowd the car to shout “where is Skimble” and Rumpel has a hold of Munk’s tail so he’s stuck

-Tugger does a swirly hand at Misto who is on the pipe and then Misto fist bumps him

-Tugger gets a Munk tail to the face for being rowdy

-Cori had trouble getting his train wheel to spin and Vic had to help him

-After Cori finishes being a Skimblestep, he rolls on the ground in front of Jerrie and sticks a leg up, Jerrie starts enthusiastically grooming

-When Macavity breaks the encore Tugger is part of the wall in front of the younger cats, Jerrie tries to get out in front but Tugger brings him back

-Giulia plays Demeter with a lot more intensity; I don’t really get the feeling that she was ever scared of him being there so much as trying to look out for the Junkyard

-Thing I keep forgetting to write down, when Macavity comes in dressed as Deut, both Demeter and Tanto go up to sniff him and both go absolutely buck wild when they realize it’s not him

-Misto setting Tugger’s tail on fire because Tugger was flirting with Cori and Tanto after he came down from the sky

-Bill and Tugger getting excited by Misto playing with the spotlight

-Tugger giving Vic’s cheek and stroke when he goes to do the wiggles with Misto

-Tanto pawing at Misto’s sparkly thighs when he finishes his first solo dance

-While Tugger is singing over by the ladder during the second part Jerrie wraps and arm around his thigh and rests his head there

-Tugger using M&R to block Cass’s path when she tries to escape and making “tsking” noises; giving them both “good job” fist bumps

-Tanto and Cori pressing heads to Misto’s thigh when Deut is back

-When Griz comes in a final time she kind of gets in Rumpel’s way and Rumpel has to pause, so Tugger comes up to guide her away and then does the mane snap at Griz

-Jerrie at Tugger’s feet and getting pets while Griz is presented to Deut; Gus looks at Tugger as they start singing as if to confirm she’s been chosen and Tugger nods and rubs his back

And in the absolute weirdest coincidence-I-swear-to-god-I-am-not-stalking-them Johnny Randall and two of the girls got onto my metro as I was heading home. I know this because he was talking to them about Riccardo answering a DM possibly on Johnny’s behalf or replying in spite of Johnny not wanting him to or something like that.

Thanks for letting me throw money at you, Ronacher.

Someone did a wolf-whistle at Tugger during the pause in the Misto number and Tugger looked at Misto and was like “oh HO!”

Just watching Alex standing during Pekes & Pollicles with his arms outstretched, eyes glancing sideways, beckoning for Louder Barks while continueing to smile winningly at the audience.

Munkustrap Wiggles during Skimble!!!

Tanto and Cori are super cute with each other and interact a lot!

OMG CASSANDRA YOU ARE BLOCKING MY VIEW AGAIN

Barbara totally has the “tipsy Diva everyone feels kind of sorry for” vibe

Munkustrap is REALLY conflicted about Grizabella—watching Munkustrap’s Face Journey is one of my favorite parts of this show

Interesting with Barbara Griz he wasn’t so aggressive during their Show down—in fact he reaches for her with a conflicted, yearning look on his face, then turns and leaps away. It absolutely parallels Demeter, and I didn’t see it with any of the other Grizabellas.

Munkustrap does look at her with pity for a good portion of the show. There is a History Here. (Also Barbara is Smol and Alex is Tol and it is extremely adorable)

Aulerstrap was FERAL tonight folks

The Demestrap PDA was pretty intense and hilarious tonight.

I mean it’s always there, but Anneke and Alex played it up to the nines

During Moments of Happiness when Munk goes to stretch out elegantly at the front of the stage he smolders at Demeter and slowlllly stretches his leg out. And Demeter gives him a look over her shoulder.

As Tugger is trying to convince everyone to give Misto a chance, they are TOTALLY MAKING OUT in the dark like DAMN you two get a room!

Munk raising up above Demeter and stroking down her leg before they fall down in to the cuddle pile 😳😳 (Bomba is there too on the other side. In fact Tugger, Munk, Demeter, and Bomba kind of curl up together)

Munkustrap doesn’t want Bomba there when Tugger appears—perhaps their combined energy would make the stage combust or something XD

(She comes back later when Munk is relaxing in the back and going with the flow)

Petra is an elegant and sexy Bomba. Anneke is showy and voluptuous. Birgit is reserved and seductive. I loved them all but I think Anneke’s might be my favorite.

Sinisi Tugger and Aulerstrap are Gay Pirate Boyfriends. While Snova Tugger was a little jealous of Munk’s crush on Griddle, and Dominick’s Tugger had more of a crush than Munk, clearly both of them here have a thing for Griddle and they are 100% on board with that. Also it takes them ages to get Comfy in the Oven!!

(Also with Tol/Smol Munk vs. Tugger Munk does the heavy lifting)

Matt Levick never stops smiling during the entire show and I don’t know how he does it. But I adore him for it.

After the show I put on my Big Girl Boots and grabbed people to take pictures of me with the kitties! I got to meet Anna Carina Buchegger and she is tiny (meaning MY height) and sweet and adorable and I put money in her box twice but there wasn’t really anyone to take pictures. BUT I jumped in with Matt Levick as Misto and pushed my phone into someone's hands. He’s surprisingly tall! (Or I should say normal height? I guess perpetually standing next to his Giant Boyfriend skews the perception 😂😂) Also the Mistoffelees costume is gorgeous! (I had to refrain from touching the sparklies but I really really wanted to)

AND George Maniadis (Alonzo) was in the lobby taking adorable pictures with small children and crouching down with them. So I nabbed an usher to take a picture and he did the lean over/head tilt thing and he was so sweet and AAAAAAA!!!

The costumes and the makeup and the wigs are stunning up close—very vibrant and deep contrasting colors.

Ok,so i was talking to my brother about my Cats headcanons and imaginary production and we ended up making a list of how old everyone is, thinking of it as them having similar lifespans as humans. I'm also adding a bit of their personality and relationship with the other Jellicles.

From youngest to oldest:

Ectetera: 8 years old

Electra: 10 years old

Jemima: 12 years old, the three of girls love playing together, but Jemima also spends time with the older kittens because they're a little more mature and she's more perceptive than almost everyone else.

Pouncival: 13 years old, he's old enough to hang out with the bid kits, but young enough to still enjoy being treated like a child. He's also big for his age so it's funny to watch him play with the younger kittens.

Tumblebrutus: 14 years old, he's Pouncival's brother and they get into trouble together, but Tumblebrutus enjoys spending time with the older cats since he's a lot more mature than Pouncival.

Victoria: 15 years old, she loves the younger kittens and playing with them. She's also at the age where her idol and example for the perfect boyfriend is Tugger, but she's still older and more reserved. She's super protective of Jemima because she's smaller than everyone else.

Plato: 16 years old, he's also super protective of the younger girls. He helps Victoria take care of them when they're playing together. He's not jealous of the attention Victoria gives Tugger, instead seeing him as an example to follow.

George: 17 years old, I don't have much for him, but he definitely tries to act more like the adults and prefers spending time on his own rather than with the other kittens.

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer: 20 years old. Their idol is Mistoffelees because he's the closest to them in age, and he's responsible and smart so they try to follow him and do everything he does.

Mistoffees: 21 years old. We already established he's a child prodigy. He's skilled and smart, so he gets a lot of responsibilities around the junkyard. His favorite job is the unofficial care taker of Mungo and Teazer.

Alonzo: 23 years old. He's slightly younger than Tugger and loves playing with the older kittens, but he admires Munkustrap and will go out of his way to help make sure everyone is safe.

Rum Tum Tugger: 24 years old (same as me!). He loves the attention he gets from the younger cats and acts as the leader for the troublemakers, but he always keeps everyone safe. Extremely perceptive of the others' comfort levels, he makes sure to spend time alone with Mistoffelees making them close friends and building mutual understanding between them.

Casandra: 25 years old. also don't have much on her. She's probably good friends with Tugger and Mistoffelees as the second closest friend they have.

Demeter: 26 years old. She's mature and has as many responsibilities as Mistoffelees so they tend to work together a lot in their daily tasks. Because of her past experience with Macavity, she stays away from almost everyone when they gather in big groups (more the three is a bit much for her).

Munkustrap: 26 years old. we all know him, and we all love him. The protector of the tribe and the most responsible out of everyone. He's forced to delegate work by Misto, Demeter, and Alonzo.

Bombalurina: 27 years old. She admits Tugger is a bit young for her, but she also knows Tugger is more mature than he cares to show. She makes sure Munkustrap doesn't overwork himself as much as she makes sure Demeter doesn't do the same trying to help Munkus. She might have started a secret cat spa for them, and the only reason Mistoffelees doesn't know is because he disappears anytime she tries to make him stop working.

Macavity: 29 years old. He scary and a loner. He's mad that Demeter chose Munkustrap over him, but he also knows she would have never loved him. He tries to scare Demeter because he's angry, not because he actually wants to force her into a relationship.

Skimbleshanks: 30 years old. He's one of the oldest cats, and takes his job at the railway seriously, but he's at the point in life where he rather have fun with his time instead of stressing over what might happen in the future. He's the cool, young uncle that plays with the kittens and is the only one who can make the young adults smile and relax for a while. Everyone has fun whenever Skimble is around.

Jennyanydots: 38 years old. She's the mom of the group and can make everyone be quiet and behave with one look. She also enjoys her time and her youth, reminding herself to relax and be an example of good habits for the younger cats.

Jellylorum: 40 years old. I see her as the scary aunt, if she was older maybe the grandma of the tribe. She's strict and a bit of a perfectionist. She takes care of the younger cats, but would rather if they could be quieter. She takes care of Gus because she's the only one who still remembers him in his prime as fondly as Gus himself.

Bustopher Johns: 45 years old. He was, and still is, the flirt of the older adults, like Tugger is now. He's also seen as the responsible dad of the tribe, and everyone makes sure to be in their best behavior when he's around. Especially Mistoffelees because he was chosen as Bustopher's apprentice as the most educated cat in the tribe.

Grizzabella: (was) 50 years old. She was once the most caring, motherly cat around, and the young adult either mourn her exile, or they're still hurt because she abandoned them. Mistoffelees, as I said before, doesn't really remember her, but does feel sad whenever he thinks about her.

Old Deuteromy: 70 years old. Everyone secretly calls him grandpa whenever Munkustrap and Tugger aren't around. They wouldn't mind, but they think it's weird people call their dad "grandpa." He loves everyone single member of the tribe, and he cares for them equally. However, he has a soft spot for Munksutrap, Tugger, and Mistoffelees. Muskustrap works too hard so Old D doesn't have to, and he appreciates everything his son does for him. He knows Tugger is a drama queen, and he encourages it since he was a drama queen in his younger years. Mistoffelees spend a lot of time away from the tribe, so everyone else needs time to include him in the daily activities of the junkyard, but Old D doesn't want Mistoffelees feeling like is being rejected and will spend time telling him about different kinds of magic and praising any improvements Mistoffelees makes, even if it's doing 25 conjuring turns instead of 24.

Gus: 80 years old, maybe closer to 90. He's the real grandpa of the tribe. He loves to tell stories of his acting career to anyone who will listen, which usually ends up being Munkustrap, Tugger, Skimbleshanks, Mistoffelees, and Alonzo, his unofficial Raffish Crew. Jellylorum loves to praise his legacy as a great actor, but the "Raffish Crew" love to act out his stories just to see him smile again. He is also the reason Munkustrap wrote "The Awful Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles," he even helped Munkus write the character of the Rumpus Cat as a modern, and nicer, version of Growltiger.
