OUR LOVED ONES ARE DYING EVERYDAY MD! Because people are overbreeding, not getting their dogs and cats spayed and neutered and are either sick, dying or cannot afford care/food. The shelters are overcrowded, and rescues do not have the foster help they need!
THERE ARE A FEW SOLUTIONS, one is to be a loving foster for a homeless animal! Most often the rescue that you foster for will provide you with all the essentials you need to keep the dog/cat healthy, happy and well fed. You provide the space and the love! And what's really cool is if you fall in love with the furball that you foster, you get first dibs on adoption!
If you'd like to find out more, please email [email protected] with any questions, concerns or even what type of dog/cat would fit into your life.
Please share far and wide and let's save some of those lives we love!

Two of our fosters were adopted yesterday!
Sloop went home with Elvina, and Tank fell in love with Riviera. Both ladies were also adopted from within the rescue.

Hey, y'all! My partner is raising funds for Cookie, who is a very good dog and likely ate part of a toy that is now creating an internal blockage. She's the friendliest Chihuahua I've ever met and a little bit of a local celebrity here in Waverly!
Please consider donating if you're able, it would mean a lot!
Here's the donation link:

In Baltimore Co., MD: Baltimore County Animal Services is seeking rescue placement for Miles, a 2.5 year old, 14 pound Chihuahua mix that was surrendered to us due to him having anxiety and aggression. According to his previous owner, Miles does well with all kinds of other dogs, but it appears he was not socialized with people. Miles did nip at someone once when they reached to pet another dog. Miles seems to be a dog that will attach quickly to one person and that will be his person for life. He has warmed up to select staff that are able to pet him and pick him up. Miles is also very scared in the shelter setting so we would like to see him go to a rescue as soon as possible. If you are interested in pulling Miles, or have any questions, please let us know!
Thank you,
Megan Phillabaum

Franky- 5 years, altered male, 40lbs
You can’t help but look into Franky’s big brown eyes and not have your heart melt. If Van Morrison had to dedicate his song “Brown Eyed Girl” to a dog, it would go to Franky. He gets your heart a-thumping and will be your favorite brown eyed boy.
Franky, previously known as Bishop at our shelter, has fortunately spent the last several months in a foster home. His foster parent has reported that Franky has been totally housetrained while in her care! Franky has also attended many play dates at BARCS, showing off his fun, playful side with all his new doggie friends! This goofy guy loves car rides (head out the window.. tongue blowing in the wind), toys, FOOD, and snuggling. Franky also may be part fish as he loves the water (can ya tell from the pics!?) Franky is a funny, sweet, playful pup who deserves the world!
His foster reports that Franky is calm, cool and collected in the home and is great at letting you know when it’s time for some exercise or playtime. You’ll be in for a laugh after Franky does his business outside and speeds around in circles for a little post-potty zoom session. Fetch is Franky’s game of choice so be sure to stock up on the tennis balls.
Franky is currently living the city boy life and is trying to adjust, however, he still struggles with loud noises and the hustle and bustle of the Baltimore streets, so may do best in a more low key environment. He is reactive on leash and had an instance of biting the leg of someone who rode up behind him on a scooter. Fortunately, his foster has begun working on muzzle acclimation with him for safer walks, and is on behavior modifying meds (trazodone, gabapentin, Clonidine) for stress/reactivity.
Currently, Franky is on a precautionary quarantine at the shelter for scratching and breaking skin on a volunteer's arm who approached him despite his already high level of overstimulation.
Franky would love to find a family to call his own. He will re-pay you with lots of silly smiles, kisses and endless snuggles.
He is available immediately for rescue pick-up, so please let us know if your organization can help!

In Baltimore City, MD: Despite her worried eyes, Marigold is such a sweet and easy girl - BARCS, Baltimore MD
- Cutie in Need -
Marigold- 4 years, unaltered female, 37lbs
Don't let her worried eyes fool you- Marigold is such a sweetheart! This petite girl was surrendered to the shelter by someone who cared for her after her owner moved out and left Marigold behind. She's reportedly good with children, and has been very friendly and easy to handle since she's been at the shelter.
When tested off-leash in our shelter's play yard, Marigold was uncomfortable with other dogs, but tolerant, polite, and coexisted peacefully.
Upon examination, our vets noted that Marigold has grade 1-2/4 periodontal disease, mild debris in both ears, and was covered in live fleas, which has caused hair loss over most of her body. She has been started on antibiotics and fatty acids for her skin, and a full medical summary can be provided upon request.
BARCS is out of dog space and Marigold is available immediately for rescue pick-up.
Please let us know if your organization can help!
Thank you,

In Baltimore City, MD: 11-month-old, 12lb very fearful pup let loose and abandoned in shelter's parking lot - BARCS, Baltimore MD
- Rescue Needed -
Brownie Sundae- 11 months, unaltered female, 12lbs
Poor, nervous Brownie Sundae was originally brought in as an owner surrender, and when staff attempted to schedule an appointment, her owner ended up just releasing her loose in the parking lot. Fortunately, staff was able to quickly corral her inside.
After the whole ordeal, understandably, Brownie Sundae was quite shaken up and confused. She was very uncomfortable and growling for her intake exam, and did have to be muzzle wrapped for safety. She's very nervous of the leash, but once on, she was easy to unleash. She is slightly flinchy when people move to quickly, but has allowed slow and gentle pets.
The good news is that Brownie Sundae really enjoys the presence of other polite pups. She can be initially shy, but as long as the other dogs are respectful and gentle with her, she loves to play chase and romp around the yard.
Due to her general fearfulness at this time, Brownie Sundae is not available for adoption through BARCS and can only be placed with an approved partner rescue. She will be available for rescue pick-up after 2/22.
Please let us know if your organization can help!
Thank you,
The BARCS Rescue Team

In Baltimore City, MD: Lovely 15 y/o senior fella with pretty, sparkly blue nail caps is seeking a home for his golden years - BARCS, Baltimore MD
- Senior in Need-
Peppercorn- 15 years, altered male, 7.3lbs
FELV-/FIV-
"Hey there, I'm Peppercorn! I may be 15 years old, but I've still got plenty of delightful 'cattitude' left in me. Sadly I was surrendered to the shelter, but let's not dwell on the past; I'm all about the future and living my golden years like a superstar. My previous family said I'm laid back and loving, and they're absolutely right – I'm all about lounging in the sun and getting my daily dose of chin scratches."
Peppercorn's previous parent noted that as he's grown older, he has been less interested/less tolerant of other cats and kids, and was also starting to have accidents outside of the litter box. Although he may just finally be ready to be the center of attention (I mean, given his age, he's earned it), not feeling well may also have been a contributing factor as well.
You see, a full medical workup done through our shelter has revealed that Peppercorn has an elevated T4, meaning he is hyperthyroid. He has been started on a prescription Y/D diet for now, and it is recommended bloodwork be rechecked in a couple of weeks to reassess values. He's lost a bit of weight since arriving in our care and vets aren't too concerned at this time, but we are monitoring for any further weight loss just in case.
No senior should spend their days in a shelter, and handsome senior guy, Peppercorn, is of course no exception. He deserves to spend the rest of his golden years in a home in luxurious comfort.
Peppercorn is available immediately for rescue pick-up.
Please let us know if your organization can help!
Thank you,

STILL IN NEED IN BALTIMORE CITY, MD:
Update 11/6: Happy boy, Rigatoni, has played well with other dogs in the shelter's play yard! Unfortunately, he is now being treated for an upper respiratory infection, though, so we would really love to see him off to rescue where he can get the continued TLC he needs.
In Baltimore City, MD: 7 y/o genuine sweetheart with a traumatic leg amputation is seeking rescue ASAP - BARCS, Baltimore MD
Rigatoni- 7 years, unaltered male, 53lbs
From meeting Rigatoni, you would never guess how he wound up at the shelter- left behind, tied to a fence post in the middle of the city. You would never know what he's been through based on his bubbly personality and genuine smile, but clearly, his past life hasn't been easy.
It was clear immediately that Rigatoni had been through some serious trauma a while back, as his front leg is amputated above the elbow. While the wound is closed, he does have some callous and erythema from dragging it some. He also has dermatitis, facial scars, a couple of skin tags, and could use a dental in the near future.
Despite everything, Rigatoni has been incredibly trusting, tolerant, and cooperative so far in our care. He's understandably a bit overwhelmed, but he still greets people enthusiastically, allows handling, and absolutely loves snacks.
Rigatoni is currently on stray hold until close of business 11/3, but due to his medical needs, we would hate to see him stay in the shelter longer than he needs, so would prefer to find rescue placement for him as soon as possible.
Please let us know if your organization can help!
Thank you,
