tbh i get kinda annoyed at the “femmes need to stop treating masc/butch lesbians like men, they’re still women, treat them as women!” thing because like first of all i think there’s a difference between calling yourself a masc lesbian and a butch lesbian. Butch is a historical term that has to do with community and yes, somewhat rigid roles. Masc literally just means masculine presenting and isn’t a term that directly correlates with the lesbian community or should have roles attached to it. I don’t think masc and butch can be used interchangeably.
Second, I don’t even know what treating someone like a “man” even means. I’ve never been in a relationship with a man so I don’t even fully understand what that dynamic would be like let alone how I would treat one. So no, I don’t think I treat butches like men.
But if i’m being honest, I don’t ever really think i’m treating them like “women” either. I treat them like butches. Most butches i’ve been with are transmaculine, non-binary, or old school butch women who would honestly feel uncomfortable if they were treated like a “woman” or would not enjoy me using feminine words (pretty, beautiful, princess etc.) to describe them. So I call them handsome, let them carry my things for me because they genuinely enjoy it, let them act tough in front of me and let them express their masculinity in a way that affirms their butchness. Now this doesn’t mean that me treating them like a butch means that i treat them like a “man”. As a femme, I always want to be a safe space for any butch I’m seeing to be soft. not “feminine” or “womanly”, but soft. Softness shouldn’t be inherently gendered. I want them to feel like they can relax with me, cry with me, let me hold them in a way they may not usually be held in. This is what butch/femme is all about. There are roles yes, but I never think of how I treat butches as how i’d hypothetically treat a man.
I can understand how someone who only considers themself “masc” and not butch, someone who has no knowledge of butch/femme roles and maybe is only masc in the way they dress, could see this as gendered treatment. I can see how the use of roles can be seen as gendered by some, but that’s just not how I see it in the slightest. I don’t treat my lovers like men, I just treat them like butches.

As someone who is a programmed PF-DID system, we need to stop using the term HC-DID. Here’s why ⬇️
1. The system that coined the term is a groomer and is anti-semitic. There is evidence(some screenshots included below) of the MayMay system(The 20y/o coiner of the term) being sexual towards minors up to 5 years younger than them. In MayMay’s discord server, 15 year olds are allowed in NSFW channels that have sexting in them. MayMay has joked about sexually assaulting a 16 y/o. There is a 15 year old that seems to always be with MayMay, and constantly talks about interacting with MayMay in a NSFW context. Etc etc etc. There have also been screenshots of MayMay using the term “Jew” as a derogatory insult.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. The term excludes programmed systems that do not have a highly complex case of DID Many programmed systems can not use the term “HC-DID” due to having OSDD, not having PF-DID, etc. All programmed systems have distinct differences from non-programmed systems, but programmed systems without a highly complex case of DID don’t have a straightforward term to describe their experience. I’ve seen a lot of people use the term HC-DID and programmed interchangeably, and imo that’s not fair to other survivors trying to find community.
3. You can have a highly complex case of DID and not be programmed. You can have trauma that is just as extreme as the trauma experienced by programmed systems, end up with a highly complex case of PF-DID, and not be programmed. I’ve met some non-programmed PF-DID systems with insane system structures. One system I knew was not programmed, but had hundreds of different alters, all with very specific roles, hierarchy, and layers, that all fronted to do very specific tasks. They told me they had a specific alter who fronted to wash their hands, and another specific alter who fronted to sleep on wednesdays. Their case could absolutely be considered highly complex, but again, they weren’t programmed.
4. We have terms used/created by professionals, that don’t have any of these issues. The terms mind-controlled DID (MC-DID) and Torture based mind control DID (TBMC-DID) have both been coined by professionals, can be used with other plural disorders(MC-OSDD), or to describe all plural disorders at once(MC-system), can’t be used to describe non-programmed systems, etc.
Overall, I don’t have an issue with individuals that use the term HC-DID, I just think it’s annoying that it’s the default way to say “programmed system”. I honestly think the term is a fine way to describe systems with a highly complex structure, and should still be used in that context. But if we do that, the term should be open to non-programming survivors as well. There is absolutely no reason to fight over this term. It’s really not that deep. But if you’d like to debate respectfully I am happy to.

my overall thoughts on season 7, writing edition: what in the world ? 😭 i cannot believe i thought this season was gonna be good. i’ll be joining rohan & S2 MC in the circus, since FB made me look like a damn clown. i don't even know where to begin
being a casa girl had so much potential, and it was something that a lot of players actually wanted, even before FB started doing these themed seasons. they really fumbled the bag here
i enjoyed casa amor. the guys were all unique, had their own dialogue, and it was cool to see their pre-established relationships (alex being the villa dad, bryson and rafa being partners in chaos, the beef between bryson & joyo) then we arrived in the villa, and it all went downhill from there:
everybody became an empty husk, so they could be forced into interchangeable roles: uma’s partner, bonnie’s partner, OG LI’s ex, loved up couple (summer/joyo or #rafne) to name a few. FB’s lazy asses ruined their own characters . why is alex, the supposed level-headed & mature one, being petty & childish af in my playthrough? 😭
MC literally had no thoughts, head empty. we barely participated in any of the challenges and games. it felt like we didn't do anything besides "get pulled for a chat" by your LI or the girls
the LI personality merge in this season was the worst it has ever been. all they do is agree with whatever you say, or tell you how great you are (gone are the days of LIs having their own interests, & getting extra dialogue because of that, like levi with artist MCs)
same problem as the most recent seasons, where MC doesn’t have friendships. she has a forced bestie, then potential LIs that sit around waiting for you to pick them, choose them, love them (they immediately disappear if you don’t pick them)
the plot made no sense at all. being a casa girl means we miss out on the first half of the season, but there were many different ways they could've shown what happened before we arrived (it couldve been something as simple as MC watching the show at home or during the jeep ride to the villa. lol) the timeline was inconsistent, so much important information was paywalled, and i’m pretty sure FB was just making shit up as they went along, since the drama with stephen and OG LI's ex genuinely came out of nowhere . he wasn’t previously mentioned in the beach hut, casa amor, nothing . his only purpose was to make the OG girl look bad.
speaking of the OG girls, what a disappointment . before we got to the villa, i honestly thought they were hinting at estelle and/or willow being LIs . even if they were forced to be our rival, they still could’ve had an interesting character arc . it would've been a lot more fun if she was like allegra, rather than OG LI's equivalent of suresh
i was gonna write, "why tf did she even make it to the finale?" but the answer is obvious : for the gem scenes. every damn volume, it's pay diamonds to upstage her, pay diamonds to clapback, pay diamonds so “your man” doesn't turn his head 🙄 it's already stupid enough, but it makes even less sense if you're not pursuing your OG LI
which leads me to the biggest problem of this season, the lack of branching. you're given the illusion of choice, everything leads to the same outcome . i didn't think it could get any worse, until i saw what happens when you choose the money . does your LI storm off? nope. they make you do the treasure hunt anyways...to win you back ??😭 MC should've called security on their ass
s7 had a promising start but ended up being a flop. it was better than s5, but that's really not saying much . i wish FB would just take their time—s1 and 2 had a whole year long gap between them. but it's clear that rushed seasons are gonna be the norm, season 8 is dropping in february . capitalism ruins everything luv x

Hi! I’m considering becoming an editor but I’m not sure if it’s the right fit for me. If you don’t mind answering, what was your path like for becoming an editor, and what does the job mostly consist of for you?
Additionally, while I really do like helping other people’s work become better, I get too in my head to release a lot of my own work. Does editing require you to also be a writer most of the time, or could I get by mostly just editing?
Thanks!
Hi, anonymous friend!
These are really good questions for a potential editor to ask.
To (sort-of) answer your question, the amount of writing involved depends on the type of editing, honestly. So, first you have to decide what kind of editor you want to be.
Roughly, editing breaks down into three-to-four types: developmental/substantive, line/stylistic, copy editing, and proofreading. These terms are mixed up and interchanged ... often. Increasingly, line editing includes or incorporates copy editing, which is why I say "three-to-four."
Developmental is the big picture stuff, including manuscript critiques. Books of all kinds usually undergo some kind of developmental editing--by editorial agents, acquisitions editors, freelance developmental editors, etc. In my experience, this is also the kind of editing that requires the most writing and/or the most author/editor interaction.
Stylistic/line editing tends to be editing at the sentence level, looking at diction, structure, clarity, consistency, etc. Copy editing, on the other hand, is what many people think of when they think of editing--it's the mechanics of writing, like spelling, grammar, punctuation.
Proofreading is the rather specialized skill of editing proofs. They're the final eyes on a pre-published piece; they're looking for typos and errors rather than anything that will involve significant authorial changes because a proof page has already been "set" (as it were).
All of these kinds of editing can be applied to many different areas of communication, and the editors who perform them can be self-employed (like me) or work for an employer (i.e., as a more traditional employee). Employee editors might work in-house at a publisher (of books, magazines, academic journals, etc.), or they might have any number of editing-focused roles in business, government, education, etc. Self-employed editors may also end up working as contractors for other companies; this is pretty normal.
Many book publishers, including the Big Five, farm out a lot of their editing these days, by the way. Especially the copy editing and proofreading. So, those particular jobs are dwindling as in-house options. Publishers can pay freelancers less ... and avoid paying benefits. (#capitalism)
I will also say that, especially in jobs with anything to do with marketing or advertising, there's a lot of annoying scope creep where "copy editor" is often expected to be a copy writer, too. Again, it's a symptom of employers wanting to pay fewer people to do more jobs (and it's really annoying).
My path has mostly involved trying as many things as possible and slowly weeding out the ones I don't like. I've pretty much always been self-employed because the personal benefits (setting my own schedule, rates, deadlines) works better for me. That said, I'm Canadian (so I don't have to worry about employer-covered healthcare), and I have a partner whose salary is regular and whose benefits cover me, so I don't have some of the worries a freelancer in the US or a single-income household might have. I'm increasingly working on the development side of things because big-picture storytelling, including writing and editor/author interaction, is my jam. But I have also done a ton of line/copy editing on fiction, non-fiction, academic work, etc.
Without knowing what kind of editing you're looking to get into, it's harder for me to offer suggestions for next steps, but generally, I'd say it's important to get SOME training--whether through a school, a certificate program, or the various workshops and professional development offered by editing associations (Editors Canada, the CIEP, ACES, the EFA, ...there's an Australian one whose acronym has slipped my mind). Researching the flavor of editing you're interested in will probably offer up avenues for study, too. For example, most US publishers/authors use iterations of the Chicago Manual of Style. Most UK publishers/authors use Hart's Rules/Oxford. Academic journals/schools/students have different style guides (APA, AMA, MLA, Harvard, Vancouver). Law uses the Blue Book. It's good to have working knowledge of a few style guides--and then you have to keep up with the changes (Chicago's 18th edition is coming out this year, and I hear some significant changes are afoot--such as fully embracing the singular they!).
The tl;dr here is that yes, there are a lot of writer-editors. But there are also a lot of editors who aren't writers at all, or who have no interest in becoming writers, or who don't want their writing and editing to overlap, or who edit because they like helping people and they value clarity. At the end of the day, editing and writing are two very different hats, and you don't necessarily need to wear both.
...this is already a bit long, but if you have other questions or want me to get more specific about something, please ask!

How long would it have taken for V1 to get a clear grasp of Gabe's real personality? He is described as charismatic and heaven's specialist boy, which could be something of a act brought on by the expectations to be perfect placed on him, but when V1 first encounters him, Gabe has spent 100+ hours killing every machine aka probably really tired turning to pure rage at it and then immediatly he has a breakdown after losing before teleporting away, and then the next time it sees him he gets way too into the fight, has an awakening before abruptly leaving again. and the third time we dont know yet but it may be something closer to how Gabe really is.
V1 probably looked at the Terminal description and thought 'really? that guy?' V1 would still like him and how challenging he is to fight but it really is a sharp contrast! Seeing Gabe in the worst 24 hours of his entire existence compared to literally any other day, adding on the fallen au events that is more of Gabe having the worst possible time.
SUCH A GOOD QUESTION like honestly i think people tend to forget that as v1, we're seeing gabriel at what's essentially his lowest point, which can't be overstated in explanation of the way he behaves vs his terminal entry. fundamentally, he is a being completely adrift in existence - angels are not like humans, they are beings of pure service to their god and act often as an extension of him, to the point where the bible interchangeably refers to them as "angels of the lord" or simply "the lord" though he is acting through them. they are his will, they are the role they fulfill for him, and so gabriel has, at his root, lost his foundational identity. but it's severely compounded by the fact that he has been forced to fight possibly THOUSANDS of machines without any end in sight. he has almost been abandoned in hell, he's likely stationed at that checkpoint indefinitely to not only fight mindless, numb battles over and over in such apathetic repetition he barely thinks anymore, but he's stuck in the miserable halls of a nearly forgotten part of god's kingdom. it's a ridiculous outpost for an archangel of his stature, but he works tirelessly still because it's some kind of structure, hell must be maintained too even if it seems no one cares for it anymore (he's aware, somewhere, how much the council doesn't care and how insulting the position is, but whatever.) SO in short. v1 meets him at the worst possible juncture, and so sees the worst possible side of him.
regardless, it's intrigued by him if only for his strength alone with, at first, likely little interest in his personality - it reads about him on the terminal and takes what it presents as fact enough, but it doesn't truly care about how "radiant" he supposedly is. however...it is fascinated by him, and i think their second encounter is what fully engages its mind with him because he becomes something so much more. their initial encounter was at first mechanical, which morphed to frustration quickly turned into a temper tantrum. but their second fight shows a vile hatred, something deeply personal and grown out of an angel that has been teetering on the edge of his obsolescence for centuries at this point only to shoved over the edge in the most unceremonious way possible. honestly? it's kind of heartbreaking for him, after his exalted history and his adherence as one of god's brightest, that he falls after spending so long burning himself down to ash without esteem or even any thanks, worked to death in pointless, tedious tasks, until he fails once and is reduced to a faulty tool to be discarded. so now v1 sees him truly at his nadir before he is launched into a paradoxical zenith. he presents his extremes to it, v1 sees the wrath and cruelty he's capable of as well as the euphoric joy he can find side by side in battle. it's a captivating combination, it speaks to someone that can understand its own deep, fundamental attachment to the battlefield...so it loves, in some way, what it sees in gabriel at that moment. yet that's not. him. it's his most intense sides, but hardly typical or indicative of his personality.
WHICH I KNOW IS ALL BESIDE OF THE POINT OF THE QUESTION, but it illustrates how much v1 really DOESN'T know him by the time they meet again. canonically it's of course all speculation, but i agree with you - v1 will likely see something of a closer approximation of who gabriel is before he finally burns out, but in that case it would likely never truly know him. for my au, it takes actually,,,,quite a bit of time, at least to get a full picture of who he is, but it follows a similar line at first. there is extremely little time left before he falls when he goes to meet v1 after his slaughter of the council, and for me there is something of a peace offering in the only way they know how - battling one more time, with gabriel no longer robotic nor overcome with emotion. he is simply himself, he is the weapon he was fashioned to be against the weapon forged by humanity, where they meet in the middle and there is a calm in him, there is genuine words and genuine laughter, yet v1 has no standard to put them at. it is just gabriel, a new gabriel, once again like all the other times they had met. and v1 feels its first semblance of sadness, aware that gabriel is fighting to his death now despite a lack of hostility - one of them will die, but there is no vitriol. for gabriel, despite his regrets and all of his vast mistakes, he can do no more but entwine himself with v1, as he truly is. he wants it to see him, not as the council's guard dog or as a broken apostate, but who he believes himself to be...and he hope that clicks for it. i'm pretty partial to v1 actually killing him at this point, since i don't think gabe's death could be any other way (plus he honestly is heading (lol) toward decapitation so), and he would be grateful to it. i also really like v1 pausing there with him, just standing where he falls as though waiting to hear his typical post-battle speech, but instead it almost holds a moment of silence for him before it must move on.
but then for the au, it must contend with a resurrected gabriel who, even after their battle, is stuck lamenting for quite some time. he's morose, grieved, angry, everything a fallen angel should be, especially as his transformation is ongoing. and its completion brings v1 no closer to seeing the gabriel it caught glimpses of in the last fight he had as an angel - doing away with who he once was, gabriel fully embraces his demonic status by v1's side to meet its cruelty where it stands. they spend some time terrorizing the halls of hell without a set place to stay, going wherever calls them and taking little rest in the meantime. thrilling for v1, but again....now seeing him at crisis point instead. it all mellows eventually, with gabriel actually taking time to self-reflect and determine who he wants to be, rather than superficial rebellion or falling into old habits. who is he? he discovers that while he does love to live in a good fight, he also is kind at heart, he is someone that wishes to help and to protect, and so v1 finally begins to see the gabriel the terminals told it about a long time ago. it's odd at first, an adjustment to be sure, but v1 begins to settle in to being treated...with kindness. he is gentle with it, he offers sweet words (he's very good with his words, it finds out), and he's quite interested in its personal life. so i actually think it would be pretty well into him being a fallen angel before his true personality comes through day by day...and it loves this gabriel too. he's so different from it, so generous, so loving, so bright and compassionate, so radiant as the terminals had said. it admires him they way he admires it, learning from each other and trading little personality traits, until they grow into one another and their true selves incorporate the other

wow thank you again for the great reply. i honestly never knew gender dysphoria could be like that so please forgive my ignorance. i was aware of it's existence but like we both said, my not being trans will never truly understand your being trans. i also appreciate the analogies because that does put it into perspective as well. Suicide of course should be prevented, and if transitioning is truly the only way to prevent it, then Allah knows best.
religious trauma is something i greatly identify with - having attended a Muslim school and being subjected to blatant misogyny as well as being the daughter of a revert who married into a culturally Muslim family, and growing up in a household that didn't really practice either - i totally understand why queer Muslims may feel distant from Islam and I do not judge them whatsoever because someone leaving the folds of Islam truly says more about their community. However, what I learnt from my own trauma and healing from that is that at the end of the day, we do have our own choices and we can choose whether to open our hearts back to the religion or not. ofc this statement is easier said than done.
Regarding queerness and children - I did not word myself correctly and forgot to mention what you have mentioned. I don't believe that being queer is inherently sexual and I apologize if it came out that way. You are right in saying people don't have a problem when heterosexual people make assumptions but will immediately have a problem when someone who is non-hetero does. It is hypocrisy and I admit that, I am not against children learning about people who are queer or even what queer means, my concerns are merely with people who hypersexualise under the guise of being lgbtq+ activists and in the same breath I will say that I feel the same way about heterosexual people who sexualise kids.
Where I stand, as long as Bi'dah is not committed, for example, free mixing in salah or roles of men and women interchanging when it comes to the practices of Islam, I genuinely have no qualms with anyone.
I have honestly learnt so much more in these two replies than I have learnt through media and discussions with people who identify as part of the community and for that i am truly grateful. many of your points allowed me to question my own perspective of queerness as well as to challenge myself regarding how I actually view people who are different than myself.
All in all, my stance on lgbtq+ hasn't changed much in the sense that I can agree with anything and everything that the community preaches but I have become more aware that not everyone who belongs to it shares the same opinions and not every Muslim who is queer/non-hetero hates or blatantly chooses to reject Islam. I do think that this discussion has been fruitful and it's a conversation I'm glad to have had, especially since it's civil, hopefully from both our perspectives.
Allah truly knows best, regardless of my view or your view and we all are Muslim and hopefully striving towards the end goal in the Hereafter. We should focus on the issues on hand and spread Islam through its meaning and not on our own prejudice because you as a queer Muslim may be doing much more good than I, a heterosexual Muslim, am currently.
Thank you for the discussion and may Allah bless you ♥️
no worries thank you so much for being so respectful and understanding! most muslims i meet aren't willing to listen to people they don't agree with so it's very refreshing that you're being so open to trying to listen to me. it's very heartwarming :)
alhamdulillah i'm glad you understand the struggles of being trans and how queer muslims may stray away from islam because of religious trauma. and you're absolutely right that at the end of the day, allah knows best and it is always up to the person to choose the right path for them.
and thank you for clarifying your stance on the whole children situation. and yes you are correct that people do use the lgbtq+ community to try to get away with stuff that is deemed unacceptable! unfortunately the community is facing hardship because people are abusing the openness and acceptance of the community and sometimes are using it as an excuse to do bad things, which most people in the queer community condemn and are actively trying to fight against! and even then, those situations are kept to a minimum and are handled as best as possible, and the occurrence of those problems are not as common as people think, actually. but i do understand how you may be concerned and that's totally fine, but i want to assure you that it's not common at all and most of the lgbtq+ community want to protect kids as much as possible!
i don't have much of an opinion on bi'dah and whatnot, but your beliefs are very valid and i totally respect them as well :)
i'm so happy that i could help educate you and give you insight about how queerness affects me and other muslims. i'm so glad that you were open to listening. it's totally okay if my insight hasn't changed your opinions very much, i'm just glad to have been able to be given an opportunity to share my perspective as a queer muslim. and you are right that the muslim community as a whole must drop their prejudices and all reach to strive for jannah in the afterlife. inshallah we can all have good discussions like we did in jannah as well :)

Thoughts on Season 2, Episode 1 of the Total Drama Island Reboot
So I still haven't seen season one of the reboot in full, only bits and pieces. (IDK what the hell is going on with the US release schedule.) But I've seen enough to get a feel for the plot and characters, and it seems really good. Now the second episode of season two has been leaked and I was able to watch it in full, so here are my thoughts. Spoilers below the cut, obviously.
So Priya is mentioned multiple times as being the season one winner, and to my knowledge Bowie's ending hasn't aired anywhere. Some are wondering if Bowie will even get an ending, but I think he will - alternate winners have been a thing in Total Drama since the beginning, and the finale of the season one was shot in a way that the winner can be interchangeable. So I'm pretty sure Bowie will get an ending where he canonically wins.
Not sure how long Priya, Milie and Bowie will stick around to be honest, since they already got a lot of screentime in season one. Pretty sure Bowie will stick around for a little bit to give us some Rajbow, but I'm not sure about Priya and Millie.
Speaking of Millie, she continues to be her socially awkward self. It's also a nice change of pace to see her genuinely trying at the challenge, even if she still isn't very good.
Caleb is an interesting one. He's obviously still bitter about being voted off first last time, and now he's determined to prove himself. Some have been predicting that he could evolve into a full on antagonist like Justin did in TDA, but I think it's still too early to tell one way or the other. If they go the antagonist route I at least hope he's better than Justin was, who was basically just Alejandro's buggy prototype.
Chase and Emma broke up offscreen, which I'm honestly glad for. I hope this doesn't lead to another "will they/won't they" that lasts for much of the season. In fact if I'm being honest I kind of hope Chase is an early boot and Emma finally moves on to someone who can actually treat her right. That'd be some good development on Emma's part.
Ripper... I'll be honest, he's one of my least favorite contestants of the new generation. He does fit his role of an obnoxious jerk, I'll give him that. But if I'm being honest I hope he's also an early boot because there are other characters far more deserving of screentime; particularly those that got eliminated instead of Ripper back in season one. Which leads me to...
Axel is one of the contestants I'm most excited to see in season two. She's the newest in the "abrasive tomboy" archetype after Eva and Jo. Eva never got any major character development and Jo always stayed a jerk with the occasional moment of kindness, so I was hoping Axel would be the one to break the trend and get some real character development. What we've seen so far with her saying she's trying to be nicer has me cautiously optimistic.
Speaking of character development, how about Nichelle? I and many others expected her to get training and become a stronger contestant, but I wasn't expecting to see evidence of that right off the bat in the first episode! She's another contestant I'll be watching closely.
Damien didn't do a whole lot, which kind of surprised me. Damien was at the top of my list for being a major character in season two, after he lost in season one right as he vowed to start taking the game seriously. But that can still happen; it's only episode one after all, and you can't frontload the first episode with every single plotline right away.
Seeing Julia and MK being on good terms and showing mutual respect was something I didn't see coming after how things went down between them in season one. But you know what, I'm here for an MK/Julia alliance arc. Also MK is my favorite character of the new generation and I look forward to seeing her schemes, especially after she talked about getting her hands on an intern uniform.
Wayne and Raj are wildcards to me, I honestly have no idea how long they'll last or what their specific plots will be. But like I said earlier with Bowie, I think at least he and Raj will stick around for at least a little while for Rajbow. It's genuinely one of the best written couples the show has given us.
Zee I don't picture getting very far. As much as I like Zee he already made it fairly far in season one, and not sure how much material they can get out of his whole "influencer" arc.
Last but not least, Lauren AKA Scary Girl. As a fan of her it hurt to see her voted off first, but I understand; there's other characters that are far more deserving of screentime, and Lauren is pretty one note. That being said, it's obvious we haven't seen the last of Lauren. I'm guessing she'll pull an Ezekiel and keep sneaking back onto to the show to disrupt things.
And that's everything. So far I'm really enjoying this new season and I'll be following it closely.

Despite Sylvain supposedly developing past his misogyny, all his endings with women focus almost 100% on his goals and accomplishments to the point where the female characters he ends up with are honestly interchangeable and I think this is indicative of how Sylvain really doesn't grow out of this mindset. His Dorothea ending talks about him improving relations with Sreng and doesn't mention any of her accomplishments, the Mercedes ending talks about him improving relations with Sreng and doesn't mention any of her accomplishments (the only significant difference from the Dorothea one is this ending says a crestless child succeeds Sylvain but the framing still makes that appear to be Sylvain's doing, not Mercedes'), and his ending with Ingrid is, oh look, the same exact thing. I initially ignored Byleth's ending because she's the player character, surely she could at least avoid being relegated to an accessory in a man's life story, and while Byleth may have gotten slightly better treatment than the other women it's still honestly disappointing. Their CF ending honestly focuses mainly on them as a team so I wouldn't say Sylvain gets too much preferential treatment here and wouldn't even care if it wasn't for all the other factors, but their other endings are all about Sylvain's accomplishments. In AM it says that "he achieved a great deal," not they, in fact Byleth does not achieve anything in this ending besides becoming Archbishop (no mention of what she does with that though) and marrying Sylvain. Their VW and SS ending is the same, Byleth's main accomplishment is marrying Sylvain while Sylvain gets to use his "cunning manner of speech...[to] foster relationships between the CoS, Fodlan, and surrounding regions."
Compare these endings to the women's endings with other people. Ingrid improves the quality of her territory in many endings including AM Felix, CF Ashe, and CF Ignatz. In other endings, such as AM Ashe and Raphael, she becomes a knight and while it may not be an ending I like for her it is still an ending that involves her doing something. Dorothea gets to play a big role in the Mittlefrank Opera Company again with Edelgard, Manuela, and Felix. With Petra she's able to use her connections from the Opera to help Brigid improve their relations with Fodlan. Mercedes runs an orphanage in her CF Annette ending and works as a cleric in all her other Annette endings. With Constance they work to improve both their territories (too many endings with M/F nobles only focus on the male noble's territory but that's an issue for another day). Mercedes also becomes a cleric in her Alois ending and goes down in history for having magical blessings.
These women's endings with Sylvain are by no means their only endings where they're ignored in favor of the male character but the fact that all of Sylvain's M/F endings ignore the female character (while his Felix ending has no issue talking about what Felix is doing separate from Sylvain) speaks to the likelihood of Sylvain still holding on to some of his concerning views.

One day or Day one, am I right?
Okay, so god knows the amount of ideas I have for a few of the fandoms I hold close to my heart. The main one as of right now being Teen Wolf.
So here's a list of ideas I had written down or just in my mind for a long while :P (BTWs, a few of these I honestly don't remember my thought process for them, even tho I included a bit of context for myself in my notes)
Gone, Gone, Gone - Phillip Phillips /// Childhood Friends/Sweethearts AU [Sterek Animatic]
a lil montage thing of them growing up together, or something
Friends on the Other Side (Mash Up) - Thomas Sanders & Friends /// Kind of a mafia vibe w/ Spark Stiles [Pack Animatic]
- Stiles = Dr. Facilier - Isaac = Oogie Boogie Man - Others (couldn't think of which characters would fit with which disney villain)
Backstage Romance /// [Sterek Animatic]
- Some sort of ceremony, maybe? With how sexual the music video or whatever is, the idea is lowkey a mating ceremony...in dance??? Like obviously not sex, it was idea of the ceremony was going to be more them exchanging the mating bites - Derek (the male role/voice) goes first in kind of seducing (dancing around) Stiles, then Stiles (the lady) would have his turn, and then both of them kind of seducing each other, aka dance together and are abt to bite each other - Interrupted by hunters??? Or separated by their respective family / friends - Flashback to b4 b4 the ceremony or when they were kids @ the "some of them want to use you," which in the flashback it'd be both their parents warning them about, well, people wanting to use them because they're a spark and a werewolf >>> then back to the ceremony - But it is a whole ass dance like in the BGT video performance
Lover boy X Killer Queen /// I had three separate, but ultimately similar ideas for this one [Sterek Animatic (more tiktok formish)]
1. >>> Stiles talking abt Derek (Loverboy) / Derek talking abt Stiles (Killer Queen) <<< These are interchangable, like the songs could be either one of them 2. Derek describing himself to Eli / Stiles describing Derek to Eli 3. How Sterek acts like "now," (ignoring the movie) they're married and openly show that they love each other / How they used to act before, so like maybe Season 1-2 ish (?)
Inspo from reading title "Wolves who cried boy" - 3 ideas that kind of combined and became a 5 + 1 idea [Sterek Fic]
1. Stiles isn't known by the pack yet. So when the 5 pups (I think I included Jackson???) spot him in different areas around Beacon Hills, they all go to Derek or call him to come over. But Stiles is always gone by then, including his scent. 2. A *Stiles and Derek are around the same age,* where Derek keeps finding Stiles in the forest/preserve and his family never believes him or something 3. The '5' being idea #1 and idea #2 as like a flashback for the 5th one, and the '+1' being when Stiles finally showing up to the pack house by himself or w/ Derek
Mandalorian!Derek and Jedi!Stiles /// Star Wars AU [Sterek]
Only notes I have for this idea is, use "We're (a little bit) in love" as reference(-ish). Which I'm assuming is a fic I read, but I read so many damn fics I don't know which one this is. And my second note, Pack = Clan
"So what if he did? it's none of your dang business kid. My mom, there's no-one else quite like my mom" /// Art edit/animatic idea [Stilinski, Hale or Sterek Family (centric-ish)]
1. Eli -> Stiles -> Claudia 2. Eli -> Stiles -> John/Noah 3. Eli -> Derek -> Talia Thought process: - Claudia had a past w/causing trouble or slightly disrespecting the officers if she was questioned - The Sheriff and Stiles are both badasses in finding evidence/proving ppl wrong - The Hales would obviously be pissed at being chained/tied down and most likely bamfs when getting out of it :D

The fact that Mera was a co-lead in the first Aquaman movie. And she is barely in a trailer where every other character gets at least one line. Like. It is absolute cowardice.
I knew WB was shit. But oh my god. Just a bunch of cowards huh?
Honestly they probably could have gotten some actually good press if they put her front and center. Wouldn’t mean they’re not a bunch of terrible people. But at least it wouldn’t ignore someone who is obviously that important to the plot. For a movie that seems to say it’s about “Family” they really wanna ignore the wife and mother of Arthur’s child.
This could also be just me. But I feel like. When they decreased Mera’s role (because they hate abuse survivors who refuse to be silent to make other people comfortable) they gave scenes that should have been Mera talking to Arthur or Mera fighting alongside Arthur, and gave them to Atlanna. Because women are replaceable right?
Like obviously that’s not proven. It just wouldn’t surprise me.
🎯 🎯🎯
its even more disgusting when you realize that’s their intention when they increase Atlanna’s role and decreased Mera’s role, according to WB, women are interchangeable and replaceable if enough noise is made and pressure is applied 🙄🙄🙄 its as obvious as it is misogynistic. (and really stupid! arthur’s mom has a completely different relationship and dynamic with him than his actual wife and mother of his child!!)
i hated wb then and i hate wb now. it seems like zack and debbie were the only two filmmakers who believed her and supported her ☹️

Yelena/Bucky
I have to admit something.
I don’t know if anyone else is like me and simultaneously loves and hates Bucklena, or as I will refer to them in this post Yucky.
I dislike this pairing for numerous reasons. Reasons such as: Bucky’s mental health, Natasha’s death, Yelena’s sexuality, and Marvel’s annoying need to have a romantic pairing in every movie.
I love this pairing for two reasons. These versions of Bucky and Yelena are vastly different then those from the comics and I’m sure that they could have a truly beautiful romance. That level of intimacy could heal them in a way that a platonic relationship couldn’t. Also, Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan are two of my mains so of course I want to see them in love.
But I don’t think these two should develop a romantic bond because Natasha and Yelena are not interchangeable. Marvel decided to kill off Nat so they should deal with the consequences, meaning no WinterWidow on screen. Natasha Romanoff and Bucky Barnes have a beautiful and strong love in the comics, but and I’ll say it again Yelena is not Natasha, so that relationship should stay in the comics. Also in the comics Yelena is asexual which I think they should keep in the movies since that would be amazing representation.
In my opinion, Marvel should make Yelena and Bucky have a strong platonic relationship, which can be just as moving and beautiful as a romantic one and would fit the characters more. I mean it’s not hard to believe that a man who’s been abused for seven decades wouldn’t want a romantic partner and/or be sexually active.
Marvel has a terrible old fashioned obsession with giving leads love interests when it’s not necessary. The only movies without love interests are Captain Marvel, Black Widow, and Wakanda: Forever; which are the only movies with female leads. I mean an argument can be made for Maria and Carol but they weren’t in your face established couple. I had some hope that Yucky wouldn’t be in Thunderbolts when Yelena was the main character because of this honestly weird pattern. But now Thunderbolts is rumored to be Bucky’s leading role and Yucky seems more likely to happen since a leading man in Marvel must love, kiss, and save a woman. I want Marvel to showcase how amazing platonic love can be and have more movies were the main focus is brotherly and sisterly or parental love while they defeat evil. I mean if they don’t want this female lead pattern to be looked on negatively they should have Thunderbolts be the first male led movie with a platonic relationship only.
After watching Love and Thunder and Volume 3 I think that Marvel is already moving into this idea but I think they will most likely do Yucky unless they stop looking at Marvel woman as equivalents to each other.
Also I hope they aren’t going to deny Sam a love interest. That’d be real fucked.
If I wasn’t clear I don’t want every movie to only have a platonic relationship just the ones where a romantic one is forced or unnecessary like Thunderbolts.

Re: Main boys friendship in recent episodes
Tumblr media
People have been talking about this expressing nostalgia for the olden days of the boys hanging out together with the way they've grown apart in recent years
They're still friends but more as classmates than a group at this point and I don't think it's ever going to go back organically to the way it was. It's an interesting progression that I don't think is ever going to be explored satisfyingly sadly!
But I think at the core of it what gets overlooked is that it's just not as rewarding to see them coexisting anymore even when they're together in a scene because they're just. So normal now.
For the majority of the show's run the joke was contingent on each boy representing a token feat of the standard friendgroup(at least according to Matt and Trey)taken to their bizarre extreme, and as characters in the show the gag was that they stuck with each other because they were so outlandish in their bizarre antics relative to peers they ended up outcasts all which gets put into words in Craig's pandemic episode
The series moving past the 4 main boys as main characters happens parallel to the show becoming almost more 'grounded'/closer to reality tonewise. Compare with alien abduction + turkey takeover + the boys ending up in the global south through hijinks spiralling out of control and the majority of recent plotlines become downright mundane so there's also less of a reason for them to stick together when you think it like that.
It feels artificial now whenever they're meant to act as a group in a scene now because there's no magnetism holding the fabric of the dynamic together, 9/10 when they're paired up it reads a mixture of fanservicey and self aware (they've done the 'we never hang out together anymore guys'/'remember when we used to hang out?) as the premise of an episode like 9/10 the times they're near each other at this point like salt on the wound) but in all of these it's the meta aspect that dominates and predetermines the narrative, nothing inherent about them as characters reflecting on their relationship with one another but rather the recognition that the story prioritizes other elements these days and so it's part of the same 'characters evolving independently from their established interpersonal drama' thing that bothered me as south park overthinker.
Being isolated from their peers thus having no alternatives for socialization was the driving force for nearly all of the internal drama amongst them which also made them feel closer to each other.
Not only this but the boys poor moral character that used to be emphasized as well and caused them to play off each other's flaws and strengths.
The conditions just are not there anymore but I honestly think they could still make it work in the new grounded setting if they were more creative with it (as fangirls have done for years) but probably they are bored of those constraints as comedy writers and preferr more ample room to write stories between different configurations of characters, but to me it largely feels like wasted precedent and also like character consistency has become the tradeoff at times. Consider how the neuroses that were core to the main 4 and by extension their mutual dysfunction have now been redistributed amongst the larger cast and as such, there is really no need for either Stan, Kenny, Kyle, Butters or Cartman to fulfill a certain role in a given episode that is not interchangeable with say, Scott or Clyde's potential.
This is felt in most recent episodes regardless of premise imo, it is not that the boys are devoid of personality now but rather that they no longer develop or adapt new characteristics in relation to other characters they have relationships with the way they used to so they feel considerably more onedimentional as result

Making this thing its own post bc it takes over my brain from time to time.
Basic idea is. what if MD/FNAF but. Security Breach :0
N takes the role of Freddy, and teams up with Pomni to stop some shenanigans the Solver/Glitchtrap is getting up to
V and J are Roxy and Chica (honestly these could be interchangeable depending on whether you want to service character accuracy or story accuracy more; cause I feel like J fits Roxy’s personality better, buuut on the other hand, Roxy also ends up having a lot more significance later, like V)
We don’t know who the heck S is so far, but… what if I just. came up w/ stuff just for this AU so they could take Monty’s role
This might be slightly out of left field, but hear me out: Uzi as the Daycare Attendant? Like, maybe the Solver takes her over when the lights are out (or when some other condition is met). I originally thought of making her Cassie, but I wanted to link the drones with the animatronics and the humans with the other humans for ✨consistency✨plus I wanted to keep her in closer proximity to N
I’ve only seen one instance of the our-current-Tessa-is-actually-Cyn theory, buuut it’s just the grounds I need to put them both in Vanessa and Vanny’s roles respectively
The Sentinels can be the Security Bots bc. hehe funny raptors who’ll tear something apart one minute and then offer you a map the next
As for the Music Man uuhhhh either Alice or Beau could fit his role
Also I’ll admit that a major reason I chose N for Freddy’s role was because I was thinking of Freddy’s lines in Footofaferret’s SB recap video and realized. wait. those would actually be perfect for N. I could really see him saying lines like ‘please accept this ominous statement at face value and do not read any further into it!’ or ‘all right! just gonna go ahead and not think about where you got these eyes’.

Hey maue get to so you again. I want to ask you an Important question. What designs you feel needs a redesign? because there's this character name tinkerbell who while iconic I feel her design doesn't age well. Her design is extremely sexualize like her dress is skimpy, long flowing hair, lascivious lips, long legs and a bust. How would fix her design?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly? Not sure what's really that sexual about it. She has a short skirt, sure (and the length probably would've been scandalous when the movie came out), but I've seen similar dresses on plenty of women in the summer, and like... it's not a big deal?
I've never been a fan of projecting morals onto body types or pieces of clothing. It's superficial and nonsensical to judge real women for their bodies or taste in fashion, so why judge fictional women for the same? Obviously characters don't have the same agency as real people, though, so there's a discussion to be had about the designer's motivations and thought process in drawing Tink the way he did. But implying she needs to be "fixed" because her outfit's a little revealing-? As if showing some leg is grounds for a redesign? Just kinda smacks of purity culture to me.
"But Maue", I can already hear pearl-clutchers mewling from the box seats, "this is a character in a children's movie! For children! Won't someone please think of the children??!!"
Welp, back in the 2010s, Disney released a series of 3D kids' films starring Tink herself. And wouldn't ya know it...
Tumblr media
Her design barely changed at all. Guess they didn't see it as an issue. (Then again, this is Disney we're talking about, and those people stick to the script when it comes to their brand mascots, but still.)
I'd already aged out of this series' target demographic years before, but from what I can gather, Tink's more of a Barbie-like character in these films. More of a role model for girls instead of just "the jealous chick".
Tumblr media
So it seems these filmmakers prioritized making Tink a more fleshed-out, sympathetic character rather than hand-wringing about her outfit. I guess you could cry to Disney about it if you really wanted to, even though I'm sure countless overprotective moms already have.
I don't even know why you think some of the qualities you listed even apply to Tinkerbell. First of all, her hair isn't "flowing"; it's tied up in a bun. Second, I'm not at all sure what "lascivious lips" means. How can lips be lascivious? Finally, you stated the fact that she has a bust as a negative, but like... literally everyone has a bust, at least if you go by the loose definition of the term. I'd also like to point out that the cultural fetishization of big boobs is utter bullshit that objectifies women who have them, but Tink's are actually pretty small in proportion to the rest of her body. Are we looking at the same picture?
It seems to me like you're projecting a lot onto this character just because you find her attractive. If you think she's sexy, that's totally fine. But sexy doesn't equal sexualized. It'd be a different story if she constantly posed in a provocative manner or was purposefully drawn with exaggerated proportions to highlight her feminine assets (like, say, Jessica Rabbit). And even if that were the case, sometimes characters who are sexualized end up doing more in the narrative than looking pretty. Sexualization isn't necessarily a bad thing; it just depends on the character and the story.
But sometimes - Le gasp! - Some characters just enjoy showing off their bodies or flaunting their sexuality, just like some people do in real life. It ain't a crime. Yes, it'd be a problem if all the female characters in a piece of media acted like this, as this would demonstrate that the media's creator sees women as interchangeable rather than individuals. But one character being a little sexual isn't the end of the world, despite what religious extremists may have you believe.
TL;DR: Cope.

Im not looking to write a novel worth of posts about this so lets just get through this real quick, a bunch of other reimu ship and relationships i didnt already cover in this post here, and my opinions on them:
Reimu/Suika: Like it a lot as a ship 😊🍺
Reimu/Eientei crew: friends with reisen, often annoyed with eirin and kaguya, and this is mostly based on the fact that theyre both red and white but... theres some interesting parallels to be had between reimu and mokou i think?!
Reimu/Aya: Also a lot of fun as a ship! 🐦‍⬛I admit a lot of reimu/youkai who intrudes on her shrine have somewhat interchangable dynamics, but theres just the littlest of nuaces that makes me appreciate each one differently...
Reimu/Yuuka: Yeah this is cute too! Honestly even though i dont reeeeally necessarily take pc98 lore into account (its a case by case basis for me), i do like the thought of yuuka having a 'history' with reimu, marisa and alice. ...even if reimu keeps forgetting people she hasnt seen in a while!
Reimu/Moriya Shrine folks: so Sanae is the obvious candidate for a bubbling rival kind of ship and i do like it as a friendly thing that can potentially become more intimate. Honestly i see reimu (and marisa) possibly taking on more of an unintentional mentor/senior role to sanae, and the actual target of reimu's ire in the rivalry between shrines is solely kanako!
Reimu/The other religuous groups: i think both byakuren and miko (and maybe most of their crews too) genuinely still believe they can one day recruit reimu onto their side 😅 but she's not having it!
Reimu/Kasen: eeeh, i do like their dynamic a lot and i can understand the appeal of it becoming more intimate, but i've never personally seen it like that myself. They're like family to me these days
Reimu/Akyuu: theres sooooo many really good and enticing parallels to be drawn betweem the hakurei shrine maiden and the child of miare, the expectations the duties the dread that all come with it, and how they find comfort in one another... Im into this one a lot! 😄
Reimu/Shinmyoumaru and Seija: im not actually invested in the actual romance of reimu and them but this is such a mess even before you take potential romantic feelings into consideration. web of complicated and conflicting feelings across all of them especially if you rope in Marisa too! 🤪
Reimu/Aunn: its like shipping a magical girl with her fairy mascot. Even if the mascot can take human form, its like... thats just a big talking teddy bear! You dont date one of those!
Reimu/...Misumaru? : unlikely but regardless of shipping, misumaru needs to appear more. She just showed up, dropped a bunch of lore and then left... Even Okina has been a little fleshed out since she did the same!
And probably a bunch of other stuff i could dedrege up from my mind on the spot but people can just ask me directly if they wish to hear my thoughts on reimu paired with random stage 2 boss.

The thing that gets me about Billy trying to bring Zordon back is that he is the only one that seems to want it? Zack the whole time is just kinda like “cool man” and yeah Zack says he’s like a father and that he wishes Minh could have met him but that literally just sounds like something you would say to your child if one of your parents passed before they were born. Also Zack’s role was for sure meant to be Kim’s because to my recollection Kim was the only one to ever say Zordon was like a father to them. And yeah, she does include all of them but Kim had the most parent drama in the show. So.
I think a big problem with Once and Always that I kind of alluded to in my video but didn't go over as much as I should have was there was a big lack of......emotional investment from the returning rangers in general. Minh's the only one who really gets an arc over Trini's death, Tommy's the only captured ranger anyone seems to care about (and really, they just care in terms of "poor Kat, how are you holding up with Tommy being gone!" rather than, you know, the fact that he's also their friend), and yes, no one else really seems to have an opinion on Billy bringing Zordon back. They honestly felt very detached from the entire situation, and the special treated them as if they were interchangeable set pieces rather than characters in their own right. So yeah, if Zordon HAD come back in the special, I feel like the general reaction would just be a generic "Wow! Great to see you again, Zordon!" across the board lolllll
