Anakin and Slavers
"His undoing is that he loveth too much"
George Lucas
One thing that I always liked about George´s work in relation to Anakin and slavery is how out of the left field he and Dave Filoni wrote Anakin´s relationship to the people who owned or saw him as a property at one point or another and yet it makes total sense for his character.
For example kid Anakin has no doubt that Slavery is horrible and at 9 he is actually working towards developing technology to help free his Mom, friends and himself from it. He hates with capital H the fact those people have control over the life and death of other people but at the same time he has great compassion and kindness which his mother helped nurture. This along with the fact that Watto was the only adult male figure who was around during his early chilldhood, this complicated his feelings towards slavers in a very tragic way.
Tumblr media
Anakin feared Watto´s violence and didn´t for a moment doubt he would have been willing to sell off his mother or him if the customer got to a big enough price but at the same time he listens to his advice when he travels to the dune sea to do his work with the jawas and his pov is almost as important as his Mom´s, in the novelization of TPM Anakin remembers not to talk to strangers or to get close to Tuskens Raiders camps thanks to Watto´s advice.
So in Anakin´s mind, Watto is someone he fears but also someone he takes advice from, respects to a point, sometimes gets sassy to and actually listens to almost as a father figure BUT at the same time he has no doubt he would activate the killing chip if he tried to escape.
Pain/abuse/fear mixed with care/advice(sounds familiar?) Anakin knows slavery is awful but he can´t help but see Watto as a person because of who Anakin is, Annie is a kind and understanding person and to point may justify Watto as a "Man of bussines" and "Not as bad a other masters" "It could be worse" but he definitely doesn´t trust him in the same way he does his mother, she is blood, she is family. He and Mom are a team. They shared their secrets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time Anakin saw Watto again after being freed, he was a Jedi with training, almost a knight and the first thing he does to the guy who beat him and his Mom some years ago is to ask him if he can help with the ship parts Watto is working on because he noticed Watto is struggling and his bussines is falling down compared to how it was when Anakin was a kid. When Watto noticed who Anakin was he didn´t reject him and accepted his congratulations but keep himself appart, hoping to learn about his mother whereabouts.
When Watto told Anakin he sold Shmi, Anakin doesn´t have a reaction, he takes Watto´s justification of "I am sorry Ani but bussines are bussines and anyway the person who bought her freed her and married her" Anakin doubts it´s as good a picture as Watto is talking about but he takes his justification and leaves.
When he meets Owen, Beru and Cliegg he sees they are indeed nice people and the reason for his mothers suffering is something completely different that they were not able to stop so he doesn´t blame them for her fate. When Anakin lost his mother it was only natural for him to seek a family, someone he could share how he really felt and his secrets, he could not be part of the Lars family but Padme was willing to love him so she became his new confirmed family, right along with Obi-Wan and Ahsoka but while he had to show himself different to them, he didn´t had to do that with Padme, just like he did with his mother.
Tumblr media
In the clone wars Anakin shows again this complex view of slavers with Queen Miraj Scintel, the cartoon goes out of it´s way to show she looked at him as pretty property and he didn´t let her forget that and actually it was strongly suggested he may have been raped by her at some point to keep safe Obi-Wan, Rex, Ahsoka as well as the people they wanted to save while he got enough soldiers to stage their rescue. Anakin had a plan the whole time just as he did as a kid so he keep his cool even when he saw another slave choose suicide over keep being under the control of Scintel. Yet in the end when the Queen was killed by Count Dooku Anakin felt sorry for her, he could not help it.
So this mix of rejection/anger/hate/disgust towards slavers mixed with pity/understanding which is something that was part of what made Anakin a good person gets used agaisn´t him in his relationship with Palpatine.
Tumblr media
He first shows himself as the father figure Anakin thought he could find in Qui-Gon before he died a better father figure than Watto had been, a father figure that didn´t reject this title like ObiWan did, Palpatine did this to get his trust as a young child and later young adult and then he showed himself as the real sith master he actually was, Palpatine knew that Anakin wasn´t a stranger to be treated as property by people who showed themselves as good advicers or somehow not as bad as others despite their actions. So Anakin´s initial compassion, kindness and understanding for people that abused him is played agaisn´t him to make him fall to the darkside and chain himself again to another worse master who didn´t just seek to use his skills and body but who wanted his soul as well.
Tumblr media
And the same reasons why Anakin justified Watto at first when he was a young kid also applied to Palpatine, he may be a sith but he ran the Republic better than those corrupt politicians, he isn´t a perfect Emperor but in Padme´s absence he is better than the alternatives. He isn´t as bad as a master and anyway I deserve this because I fell to the darkside and nobody can come back from that, if he abuses me I got this coming because I choose this and he still teaches me the ways of the force, he rescued me from Mustafar when Obi-Wan left me to die and he didn´t have to, he is all I have left.
So once Anakin´s voice died down Vader was left with many reasons to say to Palpatine "What´s your bidding my master?" because in his mind master isn´t a word that contradicts father and Palpatine became his father in all but name, this makes George´s words about Anakin fatal flaw being the fact he loved too much make complete sense and it´s a tragedy.

The tusken massacre controversial take (both sides)
tw: mentions of rape, torture & racism
People WILL probably block me for this but IDC because I went up ahead and read up on the tuskens on the official Wiki and while I definitely DO see how it could be interpreted as racism (I genuinely believe Lucas Did Not mean for it to be read as such) . But. BUT.
I'm not saying the murder of the tuskens was "justified" but it was definitely a much. much. more complicated situation than people make it out to be. It is CANON that Tuskens are mistrustful to the point of Xenophobia of the other settlers on the planet, settlers who by this point have been there for generations. So the argument has to be made that their culture and traditions would NOT change overnight if at all. And therefore Anakin was right about one thing, (and I am willing to die on this hill.) the tusken children Would have grown up to be the same torturers and killers (possibly rapists, there were very few reasons for them to keep Shmi alive and none of them good)
Now, am I saying that killing children for something they might do or in this case Will do in the future is wrong? I'll be very honest, im only 70% sure my answer would be a definitive No. The other 30% is genuinely considering it. I cannot comment upon the female tuskens as there is literally almost NOTHING about them in Canon verse and so I know nothing about how culpable they are in this. But motherfucker NEITHER DO YOU.
Anyway yeah there are many tribes of tusken and some of them peaceful but this one was Definitely Not. We were sown this. This wasn't a matter of racism. this was a matter of Murderous, Torturing, Kidnappers. Who kidnapped and possibly raped this guy's mother.
Fact: Shmi was an innocent woman who had done NOTHING to the tusken
Fact: She was tortured at their hands for days
Fact: If someone did that to my mom, I'd be pretty murderous too especially if someone had been grooming (palpatine) me to give into my worst nature from age 9.
Idk man, things are definitely not as black and white as we are making them out to be. On EITHER SIDE. And if we're talking about bringing up the consequences of his actions before the senate? Most of them are not Nearly empathetic enough even give a fuck. They need the Hero With No Fear too much and even if they didn't they would NOT give a fuck. The jedi council definitely would but they would ALSO debate this, like a LOT.
EDIT: ALSO ALSO, ONE MORE HLL I'LL DIE ON, ITS MENTIONED IN WOOKIEPEDIEA THAT 1 TRIBE WAS A COMMUNITY OF 20-30 PEOPLE, STOP CALLING IT A FUCKING GENOCIDE. IT WAS A MASSACRE. IT WAS A FUCKING MASSACRE WHICH WAS UNACCEPTABLE BUT IT WAS VERY DIFFERENT FROM A GENOCIDE.
Edit 2: The tuskens also engaged in slavery. Definitely not the "🥺 innocents" people make them out to be.

There’s another question I want to ask
Do people think Padme and Shimi would agree to annihilation of the galaxy just to prolong their lives?
And why? Why would they?
I think that, in some cases regarding Padme, the answer is yes---people think that Padme would be completely fine with the galaxy being brought to its knees, as long as she was the ruler of it- (or someone who she approved of was). And, to be completely honest, while I do think that people who think that are fundamentally wrong---I don't really blame them for holding that belief for her.
Mainly because we see her excuse things like the Tusken massacre and the Jedi's genocide. So they're basically just taking the "she would excuse/ignore it, as long as Anakin was the one doing it and he went forward in a way that would allow her to ignore it" aspect of her to the extreme and saying "she would want that done for her," even though I do think she would never actively want something like that.
For the most part though, I don't think people ever think about Shmi or Padme in regards to Anakin at all, unless they can use them as tools to uplift him or excuse his atrocities.
When people talk about- "the Tuskens killed Shmi so Anakin killed them, so it's ok, they deserved it!" -or- "the Jedi took Anakin away from Shmi/the Jedi wouldn't let him see Shmi, so they caused/deserved their genocide!" -or whatever, they are only thinking about Anakin.
Shmi, her wants, her wishes, how she would feel about all of it...none of it matters to them, all that matters is Anakin---what he wants, how he feels.
It doesn't matter that Shmi is the one that kept insisting Qui-Gon take Anakin to the Temple, it doesn't matter that Shmi would've been horrified and disgusted by what Anakin did in her name. All that matters is Anakin.
The same goes for Padme---how she would feel or what she would want is of zero importance to these people, as long as they can use her as a tool to uplift Anakin.
For Anakin stans and apologists, the women in his life are nothing except tools and character canon fodder---they don't matter unless they can be used and exploited to frame their favorite fascist man-baby in a favorable light.

Looks like Someone stole her mommy’s phone to circumvent my IP block lol. You need some attention, Domina? You getting bored under your bridge? Get used to it, because now this IP is blocked too.
Still, I have to laugh, because once again you are utilizing big words to try and intimidate me, but because you’re about as literate as a rock at the bottom of the Marianas Trench, you’re doing it wrong. Female chauvinism is an entirely different beast from plain chauvinism (also called MALE chauvinism, for reasons that should be clear to you). Next time, just cut out the word ‘female’ and call me a misogynistic sow again - we both know that’s what you wanted to call me in the first place.
Also, it’s amazing how someone who’s trying to accuse ME of misogyny just referred to two prominent female characters as objects that were readily interchangeable, with their only impact on the story being their effects on their male love interests. This is tragicfantasy-girl, folks! Voice of downtrodden women EVERYWHERE!
I love it, you completely disregard Padmé’s and Satine’s feelings on this matter. As much as I may joke about how Obi-Wan is the objectively more attractive man, I sincerely doubt Padmé would be more than passingly interested in dating him - Natalie Portman specifically said that Padmé liked Anakin because he helped her escape from her adult life into a romantic fantasy she hadn’t had the opportunity to indulge during her short childhood. Obi-Wan was not in the business of escapism, so she never really thought of him as more than a friend or a coworker.
And Satine? Satine would have ripped Anakin a new asshole, let’s be honest. She would have started gently, hinting strongly that she still thought of him as a child, wearing the dowdiest clothes in her wardrobe, maintaining a minimum distance between them, setting up a cover story as a brother and sister traveling rather than a married couple. Then, she would have firmly denied his advances, tried to set him up with her younger sister (and her nephew, when that fell through), had him sit and watch her do paperwork all day, and when he broke out the amateur-night Shakespeare monologue, she’d haul out the big guns and say “oh, Obi-Wan used to say the same things to me when we were young.” And, when she heard that he committed the war crime of collective punishment by killing Tusken Children for the crimes of their parents, she’d have reported him to the Council immediately upon seeing them, middle of a battle or no. Anatine as a concept is DOA.
But don’t let that stop you! If you really want to write that fanfic, you go on right ahead, Domina! I know you’re probably blonde in real life because you have this weird fixation on blonde female characters that makes you take any slight against them too personally! Why don’t you turn that energy into writing the Anatine fic nobody except you has ever asked for? Project your rancid personality on Satine and bone Anakin in effigy as much as you want! It’s what fanfic was MADE for!

I've got a lot of complicated feelings on Jude Watson's writing in Star Wars, both positive and negative, but occasionally something she writes just... hits. And this quote? This fucking HITS.
This is from Secrets of the Jedi, the novel that discusses Siri and Obi-Wan's romantic relationship that has now been de-canonized. This particular scene is after their relationship has been discovered and they're breaking up in order to remain Jedi because they've been told they cannot do both.
But the line that hits me the most is Siri saying "I was so afraid of what lay ahead that I wanted to let go of my own will" because... WOW. Wow is that Star Wars to its core. That is literally EXACTLY what Anakin and Padme do in their own relationship, Anakin in particular. It's his FEAR of the future, even one that might not even happen, that causes him to let go of his own will and do things he KNOWS are wrong just to try to prevent it. Padme ignores a lot of her own boundaries and morals and better judgment in order to be in a relationship with Anakin. She lets go of the fact that Anakin makes her uncomfortable, she lets go of the fact that Anakin straight-up claims he's a fascist, she lets go of Anakin massacring the Tuskens. If we take TCW into account, then she also lets go of Anakin's possessiveness and sexist demands as well as the fact that he SCARES her sometimes and nearly beats a man to death in order to punish her for what he believed to be a lack of fidelity on her part. She lets go of a LOT of her own will in order to love Anakin.
And Siri asks the question afterwards, is that what love is? Obi-Wan doesn't have a response, but I think the novel does have a stance on the issue. It's a little muddied by a lack of understanding of what attachment is, but I think the answer within Star Wars itself is that this ISN'T what love is. This is what love can LEAD to if you allow it to do so, and it's not an uncommon thing to happen, but this isn't actually love itself. This is what ATTACHMENT is. This is the precise definition of attachment, this fear of what MIGHT happen to something that makes you feel good that it causes you to give up your own will in order to keep it and avoid the feeling of loss. But love is selfless, love is compassion, love is about letting go of your own desires in order to prioritize someone else's happiness.
And within this exact same novel, we actually see a perfect example of this kind of love, showcased through Qui-Gon and the way he feels about Obi-Wan. They're separated partway through the story and Qui-Gon is constantly thinking about how much he misses Obi-Wan and wishes Obi-Wan were with him, but he's capable of recognizing that their mission could save many lives from being lost and that's more important than his desire to be with someone he cares about. There's a moment where Qui-Gon discovers that Obi-Wan is in some kind of danger and he has to choose between trying to rescue Obi-Wan or continuing on with his mission, he CANNOT do both. In his thoughts, he recognizes that losing Obi-Wan would be devastatingly painful, equally as painful as losing Tahl had been, but he still chooses to continue with the mission because there are TWENTY lives on the line and his love for Obi-Wan cannot cost those twenty people their lives. THIS is what love looks like, THIS is genuine selfless compassion for another person. And nothing in the novel ever condemns Qui-Gon for how he feels about Obi-Wan or indicates that he needs to change or end his relationship with Obi-Wan, but it also doesn't shy away from showing just how deeply Qui-Gon DOES care for Obi-Wan.
And while I can believe Siri and Obi-Wan's feelings for each other were genuine, it turns into a selfish attachment VERY quickly. They nearly immediately decide to start living a lie and wanting to change an entire culture just so they can have something they want, despite the fact that Siri at least says that these rules exist for a reason. Their personal happiness becomes more important than anything else momentarily. They both claim that they'll be able to do their duty still, that they'll be able to balance both, but they're also both very ready to deceive other people who care about them in order to keep this thing that makes them feel good. The hurt they are willing to cause to others is small, but it's also something that could continue to grow and snowball into something more and more selfish. What happens when they can't see each other for a really long time and start to get desperate to find a way to be together? What happens when the lies start piling up and cause misunderstandings in their other relationships? The more they cling to each other, the more willing they will be to do the next selfish thing until eventually those selfish choices stop being so small.
This is what attachment does, this is the danger of that kind of love. It's not that all love is always like this, but just that this is an incredibly common thing to happen, especially in romantic relationships. Siri and Obi-Wan literally get to the point of losing their sense of self and their own will INCREDIBLY quickly because neither of them wants to have to make a choice because they're too afraid of losing either their relationship OR their status as Jedi. But, inevitably, they HAVE to choose. They would always have had to choose, regardless of how long the lie lasted or whether it was even discovered at all.
But love does not HAVE to be like this. Love does not inevitably steal your sense of self or your willingness to make your own decisions. It is absolutely possible to have a healthy love that does none of those things and this novel 100% shows that. Just because Obi-Wan and Siri's feelings for each other are genuine does not automatically make them selfless or free of attachment. And while I have my issues with this novel and the way it handles this storyline, including the fact that I'm like 85% sure that this isn't the intended message, I really like what it says about what selfish love can do to you and the way it subtly shows what true selfless love can look like.

Okay, so I know there are plenty of 'tf2 mercs as [insert animal]' but I would also like to do this, so I, because I'm a sort-of nerd, I would like to do it as a crossover. I present:
What Star Wars creature would each Merc be?
Scout - Twi'lek/Clawdite Hybrid
He will tell you that he is a full Twi'lek, like his older brothers. His lekku are definitely as long as his full-blooded Twi'lek family, and his skin doesn't completely change its colour depending on his emotions. His dad was Twi'lek and couldn't have been anything else. (everyone believed that.)
Soldier - Besalisk
(Four-armed sentient, think Dexter Jettster or Pong Krell. Actually, don't think Pong Krell. Fuck Pong Krell.)He's thrill-seeking and has very little fear of death. Will leak secret intelligence if just lightly asked. Will engage in violent mating rituals, but then will stick with them for life. Also, think of how much more bread he could teleport with 4 arms. He could hold a shovel and a rocket launcher at the same time!
Pyro - Tusken Raider
How did a Sand Person get off Tatooine? Where is their tribe? What are they doing as a mercenary? What is under their mask? All good question, with zero answers. Pyro just is. Why does the Tusken Raider have a large flamethrower? Unclear! Can we take said flamethrower off them? Not while keeping all your limbs intact!
Demo - Togruta
I... I don't know why. He just seems like a Togruta kind of fellow. He needs lekku of some kind, and Togrutas also get to be carnivorous. I can see Demo being carnivorous. Maybe he's even missing one of his lek/montrals. Or, he makes up for his missing eye with the echolocation that his montrals bring
Heavy - Wookiee
Big, strong, loyal but known to rip off arms when provoked. Follow a warrior's code of honour. When angered (say, if you murder their Medic in cold blood) will fly into a berserker rage. Great for cuddling. Is there much else to say? Heavy is a Wookiee to a T.
Engineer - Lannik
(think a dwarf with ears bigger than an elf. Or, if you know him, Even Piell) Strong-willed, smart and great at battle strategy. Also, Lanniks are good with technology! Plus, Engineer is SHORT
Medic - Zabrak
(same species as Darth Maul and Savage Opress, though I don't believe he'd be Dathomiri. More likely from a Core World) Self-assured to the point of arrogance, striving to be the best, even to the point of playing god. A terrifying man, but you'd be glad to have him on your side.
Sniper - Kiffar
(Same thing that Quinlan Vos is) Idk but I really vibe with this. I mean, Sniper's a hunter, so it would make sense that he's good at tracking. And also, Sniper with traditional Clan tattoos??? Yes???
Spy - Clawdite
(a shapeshifting sentient species. Like that one bounty hunter from Attack of the Clones. I apologise for ) I mean. A species that can change their appearance at will? Come on. Who else could it be?
Idk I really just went with the vibes. I'm sure if I dug deeper into the pits of Wookieepedia I could have found some more obscure or better-fitting species, but I also don't want to make them just random things for the sake of being a nerd and forcing people to look just as deep as I did to make any sense of what I'm saying. I just thought this was neat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"non-muslims going out of their way to compare mandalorians and muslims only because "they both cover up" is teetering on pretty clear orientalism and is something we shouldn't encourage" thots? i wanna know if i should knock it off or nah
oh man this just sent me back to pre-mando s3 ramadan 💀💀 i was fighting for my LIFE on this topic
i personally, as a muslim, find din’s creed regarding the helmet and the hijab as very similar. i’ve drawn many comparisons between them, and i actually find a lot of comfort to see that din and the covert also wear a religious head covering. it’s really fucking cool to see a character, beloved by many, wearing a religious head covering, especially when it’s oriented towards the western audience, who is not familiar with that kind of stuff. even though it’s not the same religion or the same kind of head covering, it’s still special to see someone so similar on screen. it actually gave a ton of people representation, not just muslims, but other religions and cultures who have head coverings as well. i have SO many friends and mutuals who span from so many different backgrounds who felt seen when they saw din and his covert. it felt like. “wow. so many people with religious head coverings. just like me!! and look, they struggle with the same kind of stigmas as me! and they are all regarded with a bit more respect too!” and it just- it was really great to see that sort of representation on screen. it may not be the exact same, obviously, but it was still cool to see that kind of thing. seeing a main character on screen and going “hey! just like me!” feels really special.
i personally draw comparisons just because the helmet and the hijab both protect. they are a form of modesty that protects the person wearing it. i have some muslim mutuals who also say that it’s also an identifier, showing that the person who wears it belongs to a certain religion/race. you see the helmet and you go “oh! that’s a mandalorian” and you see the headscarf and go “oh! that’s a muslim” etc etc. there may be a couple other comparisons as well, but it’s definitely interesting to see religious head coverings that are so similar but so different.
that being said, they helmet and hijab are OBVIOUSLY not the same. they have different rules, different circumstances, different religions, etc. while they are similar, it’s important to keep in mind that some people may not see it that way. i’ve seen those arguments, the ones saying the helmet and hijab shouldn’t be compared, and that’s totally valid as well, but i personally compare them because i feel represented on screen. fiction reflects reality in many ways, and star wars reflects many aspects of reality as well, so there is absolutely no harm in comparing an aspect of fiction to an aspect of real life, especially if it can bring about more interesting topics and discussions to explore. isn’t that what fandom is all about? mandalorians are inspired by polynesian culture. tuskens are inspired by the bedouin, etc etc. fiction takes from reality, so there’s no harm in comparing it back to reality anyway.
i absolutely understand that some people may not agree, and that’s fine. this is more about me feeling represented on screen rather than actually comparing the two religions side by side. plus i totally understand the argument and why. mandalorians are seen a dangerous, and their religion is full of weapons and warriors. clearly insisting that mandos are just like muslims is… yk.. bound to get some clearly fucking racist and islamophobic ideals going on. and obviously the two religions are different, but comparing just one aspect, the head covering, i feel, is totally fine.
if i’m being honest, i haven’t seen any non-muslims talk about this stuff. it’s mostly muslims (and often jewish people too!!) who draw comparisons. i have many mutuals and friends who have all had this conversation before, and they all LOVE seeing religious head covering representation on screen, even if it’s not the exact same. about that “orientalism” …. i get it. but also?? i don’t actually see much harm or stereotypes going on actually. if anything, it just opens the discussion more towards people who aren’t familiar, and it can help people learn more about religious head coverings irl! they DO both cover up. the helmet and hijab ARE both identifiers. and yes there may be some stereotypes here and there but it’s nothing that we can’t have civil discussions about and try to expand on.
whether you should “knock it off” or not is up to you. if you feel like you are educated enough to have a good discussion about islam and fictional creeds, then by all means, there is absolutely no harm in doing so. if anything, i absolutely encourage it!! it’s so validating to see people coming in and learning about ways of life that are different to them, and drawing comparisons between a fiction that reflects on reality. if you feel like you may not hold enough information about a certain topic, i suggest you stray away from speaking, since you may or may not offend people who are already having the conversation. if you have any questions, i urge you to find a muslim, or just anyone who knows more, and start educating yourself about these things, so you can hold a more meaningful conversation without drawing comparisons that may be stereotypes or just straight up offensive.
in the end, i absolutely love seeing din’s head covering on screen. i like drawing comparisons, i like reflecting fiction off of reality, and i like holding deeper conversations about topics like these, since so many people stray away from that stuff because they’re too scared to. we’ll never grow as a society if we constantly stray away from certain topics that could educate us on many things. censoring yourself from topics and discussions that a couple other people say “no you can’t talk about that stuff” is never gonna get you anywhere. open the discussion. draw more comparisons. be respectful while you’re at it, too.
thanks for asking!! i just KNOW people are gonna get so mad at this post 💀 i’ve made so many others like it, it’s insane. please be respectful when responding or expanding.

I am so damn proud! My kiddo just sat down and wrote out a Star Wars one-shot and its so good! 668 words in one sitting.
I've shared it with their permission! Read if you'd like. If you enjoyed it, leave a little encouragement for them.
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away… yes cue the cool music starting.
The Jedi interceptors fly by, both of them closing in on Tatooine. Just then a bullet flies right into Kri-sons interceptors engine and starts to fall. The same thing happens to Jake. He tries to eject but it doesn’t work. He starts using the force to try to slow down, but when he is about to hit the ground he lunges forward and hits his head. He blacks out.
After an unknown length of time, he wakes up and sees his ship had been destroyed. He heard a crackle from his side and he looked around but saw nothing. He realised it was his lightsaber. It had broken and the Kyber crystal was stolen. He was unarmed and in the middle of nowhere.
Suddenly, there was another noise and he looked behind him. It was Tusken raiders with their weapons and speeders. Jake was captured.
Jake was chained to a rock with a Tusken staring at him. Hours passed and the same Tusken left and then returned, coming out of his tent with a hard rock. Jake was sure he was going to die. The hard rock was yeeted at him and Jake was surprised when it hit the chain, breaking it.
The Tusken yelled at him, a sound that meant “run for it”. He tossed Jake a compass. Jake caught it and ran, following the needle north. After some time he slowed to a walk and came across a cave. He looked up and saw Kyber crystals everywhere.
Despite the cave being full, the force was calling to him. He followed the feeling and continued to walk through the cave. Then he saw it, a shadow running.
Jake started chasing it and when he was close enough, jumped on it. He finally caught sight of the person he jumped on.
She was angry and pulled out her blaster, pointing it at him. Jake backed up and used the force to pull it from her hands. He pointed it at her and demanded she not attack him with it.
“Fine,” she said, “fine but you better not try to attack me either Jedi”.
“Okay,” Jake replied. “Who are you and what are you doing here?”
“I’m Padme and this is my family's cave.”
Jake was shocked. He recognized the name. “You’re not Padme.”
The girl explained how she was named after the other Padme and then questioned why Jake was there.
Jake told her everything that had happened from the crash and kidnapping to running and coming across the cave.
Padme decided that she would join Jake in his search to find his master and would not be swayed.
Jake and Padme wandered the cave. Jake could feel the force pulling him and he separated from Padme, following it until he saw a tall rock with a Kyber crystal growing out of the top.
Jake climbed up and grabbed it, but the crystal burned his hand. He tossed the crystal and it floated. Jake’s hand was covered in the burn and he wrapped a strip of cloth over it as the blue crystal slowly turned red.
A man with a red sabre killing many Jedi flashed in Jake's mind. Jake blinked and was on the ground, having fallen during the vision. His hand throbbed, but he reached for the crystal anyways. It didn’t hurt him this time.
Jake returned to Padme and asked where her family was. She was quiet before replying.
“I grew up on the moon called Concordia and my parents were killed by the separatist droids. I was saved by a mandalorian but ran away here to Tatooine.”
“How is this your family's cave then?” Jake demanded as they left the cave.
“We used to come here every rotation,” Padme replied simply as she pointed at her ship. The transport was usually used for spice.
Padme welcomed Jake aboard and they took to the sky to search for Kri-son.

So I normally am pretty willing to follow Lucas's intentions regarding Anakin and the Jedi in terms of how Anakin was selfish and greedy and the Jedi were perfect and did nothing wrong ever at all, I am!
But then Lucas says that Anakin was "fine" in Revenge of the Sith, that he's still a kind person by then, that the person he is in Revenge of the Sith is the person who was still overall good because that's the person he gets to be seen as when he dies.
And uh. This is where we differ.
Because unlike Lucas, I care about the Tusken massacre and I don't consider that just an unfortunate stepping stone towards a WORSE crime in a few years. I don't consider the Tusken massacre something that Anakin can just brush under the rug and move on from and still be considered a good person.
Anakin's not a good person in TCW, he's not a good person in ROTS. The moment he makes the choice to kill an entire village of PEOPLE, up to and including children (and likely also elderly and possibly infirm), he's not a good person anymore.
But I don't think Lucas entirely considers the Tuskens people himself. We as an audience are meant to SORT-OF see them as people because we're meant to see what he does as dark, but I think in some ways you're also supposed to sort-of agree that the Tuskens are kind-of animals. Like this is about the same level of sad as if Anakin had gone out and killed a wolf pack, up to and including the puppies simply because they would grow into adult wolves. Is it a lot of violence, some of which was unnecessary? Yes. Is it truly an unforgivably dark deed? Eh, it's not as bad as if he'd killed a HUMAN family, they're still just wolves after all.
But 20 years out from Attack of the Clones, with the ways newer creators are attempting to revamp the Tuskens and re-examine them and give them more humanity in stories, Anakin's actions then look worse and worse. Equally as bad as what he did to the Jedi three years later. It wasn't a temporary foray into a little bit of darkness that he managed to come back from, it was his first major step into being a dark side user that he clearly continues to utilize over those three years. We see Anakin more and more inclined towards violence first, towards black/white us/them thinking, that ultimately coalesces in his choice to murder Dooku on the Invisible Hand and then obviously Order 66. But his final choice to become a Sith isn't made as a good man suddenly choosing to be evil.
It's made as an already selfish, greedy, evil man choosing to make the evil stuff official. Before, he was sometimes doing good things, and sometimes doing evil things (which, let's be clear, makes him still overall an evil person, he doesn't get to get away with occasionally being evil just because he occasionally does some good things), and now he's just choosing to go full-time with the evil deeds and take the title that goes along with that.
ROTS Anakin is Dark the ENTIRE WAY THROUGH. TCW Anakin is Dark the ENTIRE WAY THROUGH. He's already a mass murderer, a mass child murderer, who consistently does choose violence and selfishness and possessiveness over being a good person. He is already someone who will consistently choose the easy path over the one that requires even an OUNCE of emotional labor on his part.
Lucas's racism towards the Tuskens means he can see ROTS and TCW Anakin as still, overall, a good person. Yes, he made a mistake, and he occasionally still lets his anger overtake him a bit, but overall still a good buddy good pal good friendo who is so totally nowhere NEAR being a real bad guy!
But these days, that no longer flies. Anakin is not an overall good person after the Tuskens, he's a Dark Side user. He sometimes uses it less, sometimes uses it more, but he's pretty much always pulling from the Dark. He's fighting "on behalf of the Republic" but he's also often ANGRY at the Separatists, he HATES the Separatists, and uses those feelings to give him strength when he fights. He's possessive of Ahsoka and massively attached to her, he's attached to Obi-Wan, attached to Padme, and practically spins apart into nearly going full Dark Side every time any one of them is in danger. The moment Anakin decides to give in and massacre the Tuskens, he's gone. He's a Dark Side user, so he's not a good person.
When he becomes a Sith, he doesn't change or become a different person, he just gets demonstrably WORSE. Significantly and noticeably WORSE, because now there are zero attempts to control it or channel it into anything remotely resembling the right thing to do, there's just Darkness, and evil choices. Every choice he makes is another Tusken massacre.

Would you mind giving us more of your thoughts on Din losing some of his humanity after his husband "died" on Tatooine ? 👀
(As well as he subsequent obsession when he realises Luke's alive of course~)
Oh goodie, one of my favorites XD I feel like i will keep saying the same things...but i just love it and i am sorry for being neck deep in filth like this.
TW: Dark Din, trauma, possessive behavior, obsessive behavior, temporary character death
Din would crumple, his knees giving out, when he sees the farm-stead...it is just too much to even think about. He tries to fight the idea, tries to have faith, knows if there is no body, then there is no proof. How could he doubt Luke?
Luke would never leave him...Luke could never leave him. It was just not possible. Luke understood him--understood what it would do to Din, more so than Din would understand himself. Luke is such a good, kind-hearted man who would never do anything to hurt anyone...He wouldn't just leave him.
Din isn't even aware he makes it back to the Crest and has taken off. Isn't even aware when he makes it back to the Tribe. That he had just gone almost catatonic when his people find him and get the news out of him that his One, the one he planned to marry, the one whom he would break his Creed for, whom he wanted to make a family with...was dead.
Or, they get the impression he is dead. Din refuses it. He says Luke will find him. Luke will come home. Luke was out there. His One was alive...this was just a misunderstanding. He already lost his family, his planet, his childhood and innocence, so many of his new people and family, his sanity...he's lost so, so much already....and Luke knew that. Luke wouldn't do this to him.
He tells people to help prepare for Luke to show up. For them to welcome the new member of the Tribe...it was going to happen any day now. No one really has the heart to tell him otherwise at first. People help get things ready, as if Luke would return any day with that sheepish grin and an apology for worrying Din, but he just...doesn't.
Soon, Din is growing furious. He takes mission after mission to take him off world and out into the stars to find him. He rarely brings quarries back alive. Or in one piece.
Some days, his Tribe tries to keep him at bay--and sometimes it works. He is a dangerous man, one of their best, but he cannot fight so many of them. And they are ready to break his legs if to get him to stop and take a break. Din knows he can't go and find Luke if they do that, so he stops...at least moving. he doesn't stop hunting.
He goes over so many bits and pieces of information, he studies, he becomes calculating. He starves for the day for when he can take down those that did this to his beloved.
And he knows it was not the Tuskens...he knows, anyone with any skill would've seen, it was the Empire...they took his beloved from him. They did something to him. They made Luke break his promise to always be there for Din. To never leave him, never let him lost that light he desperately needed, to always love and be there for him...it was their fault...and he was going to make them pay for it.
He grows strong, he gets people on his side, gets an army if needed, and begins to take people of the Empire out one by one...till he is known throughout the underground Mandalorian system as someone to follow...as someone who could be the next great king.
Then, of course, he finds his son and adopts him...then finds the Darksaber and all hail him as the one who will Redeem them, who will take them back to their glory days.
And then...he finds his Luke.
Luke who is as beautiful and gentle as the day he lost him. Stronger and brighter than ever...but still his Luke. His One.
His One who will be returning to Mandalore with him, who will be his Consort, and who will never leave his side ever again.

Nobody made Anakin Skywalker fall.
He had a horrible life, yes. He grew up a slave, his mom died, the man who freed him died, the Jedi Council initially rejected him, Palpatine groomed him, Ashoka left the order, Obi-wan faked his death, he participated in a civil war.
All of this is absolutely horrible, traumatizing stuff and he no doubt had depression, raging bpd, and C-PTSD. However, none of that was an excuse commit multiple genocides, kill children, commit countless war crimes, choke out his pregnant wife, enforce galaxy wide tyranny, blow up a planet, and cut his sons hand off.
You don’t kill billions of people because you have untreated and unacknowledged trauma. You do it because you choose to.
He was a grown man. He could have gotten mental help, could’ve left the Jedi, could’ve rejected Palpatine, could have accepted the help of his loved ones (Obi-Wan and Padme). He could’ve have made different choices.
This isn’t an Anakin hate post though. He had good qualities. He was brave and loyal and clever and he loved deeply. But even before he became Darth Vader we saw that he was also cruel and selfish and arrogant. He told Padme that he didn’t believe in democracy. Anakin felt if everybody would just let him run things, then everything would be better. And that really is the center of his character. If Obi-Wan, if Padme, if the Jedi, had just let him run things and stop undermining and regulating him than he could fix everything.
He truly believed that everybody else was the problem not him. Additionally, his loyalty and deep love for others more often than not was unhealthy. He killed all the Tusken Raiders for his mother and killed the Jedi for Padme. His only moral compass was his loved ones and he was angry when they didn’t love him in the same way. Didn’t understand why they would be upset when he did it for them. Didn’t understand why they wouldn’t do the same for him.
At the heart of his character is Darth Vader. Anakin Skywalker didn’t become him, he was always him. That’s why I believe that even if he had a different master, if his mother hadn’t died, if the war hadn’t happened, and even if he didn’t fall in love with Padme that he would’ve fallen anyways. Those event exacerbated his issues, but they didn’t cause his selfishness or cruelty or narcissism.
He was a vivacious young boy, but he was a selfish, selfish boy.

After reading metas, how can you marry someone after they massacre people? And this isn't about having compassion or believing their capable of goodness, I think that's great, but to marry them and technically, cover it up? Maybe I'm talking to the wrong person about this, since you ship anidala, but still it just confuses me so much.
Hello! :) (Sorry, I don't know if you're the same anon, lol)
I would describe myself as someone who greatly appreciates the love story of Lucas second trilogy, as a tale of a doomed relationship of star-crossed lovers, so maybe "ships anidala" is accurate. But to be honest, I differentiate between loving the narrative that George Lucas was telling, and being emotionally invested in their fictional relationship per se. So maybe it's not that accurate.
Regarding your question, I believe this is a very sensitive topic. I think there are two things to consider:
Scale-of-justice view vs. Continuum view
I think it ultimately has to do with one's view on humans. In George Lucas' Star Wars, whether we're good or bad is nothing more and nothing less than whether we're able to control our fear, anger, hate and aggression or we're being controlled by it. If you have this view, you can't really take out one thing from a person's life and say, this and that is what should define them as good person or bad person. When your dark side is in control, you're under the sway of your fear, anger, hate and aggression, greed, so you act in an evil way, you do evil things, under the influence of negative emotions and motivations and so on. That evil behavior arises as a result of certain causes and conditions. A Jedi Knight is someone who controls their dark side through patience and training and going as far to their light side - compassion, love, kindness, charity and hope - as possible, they're dedicating their whole life to achieve this and to radiate onto others. But this is a very hard task and you have to be very diligent about it, you have to work hard and you have to be very disciplined, because your dark side is always there and if you let your guard down, it will erupt. You must be mindful, compassionate, committed and serious.
Being on the light side and in control of the dark side - that's Anakin Skywalker. Being under the sway of the dark side and being on the dark side - that's Darth Vader. What I am trying to say here is that you should try to view him and all others as a continuum and judge them by their current state and not like weighing their actions on a scale and trying to get a verdict based on that. That's one of the core lessons of Lucas' Star Wars. For example, Anakin saved Naboo in Episode I, and in Episode IV, he destroyed Alderaan. I doubt that anyone who watch this, says, well, one planet saved, one planet destroyed, therefore, he is back to square one, whereas scale-of-justice logic requires exactly that conclusion. The scale-of-justice logic cannot make sense of the redemption of Darth Vader, thus, there are many who left bewildered by the fact that he ended up being a manifestation of the Force like Yoda and Obi-Wan, whereas it's actually the conclusion of the view that sees him as a continuum. In Episode III, he was no longer the good man named Anakin and in Episode VI, he was that person once again, and no longer Vader. In the same way, in Episode II, Anakin fell under the sway of his dark side, and he massacred the Tuskens. You can say that he become Darth Vader for that time. Then, he was once again Anakin, and he was tormented by guilt and shame, saying, "I'm a Jedi! I know I am better than this." According to scale-of-justice logic, butchering the Sand People goes into Anakin's permanent record and he must do something very good to balance it, so he can be considered a good person once again, but this is, once again, the flaw of that logic.
Padmé views Anakin this way. She is not marrying the Anakin who is under the sway of his dark side, but the Anakin who is in control of it and who is on his light side. In Episode III, she begs him to turn back into that person. As it's explicitly stated in Episode VI, Anakin is this person's "true self", obscured by his unchecked dark side. He carries Vader as a potential in himself, and Vader carries him as a potential as well. This is why he can to turn into Vader, and back into Anakin.
Sand People: demonized natives or beasts?
As for Sand People, sometimes I wonder how they were meant to be viewed in George Lucas' canon. It's very clear that Anakin butchering the younglings in Episode III and wiping out the entire Tusken village in Episode II are meant to be seen as two very, very different things: Padmé immediately tells Anakin that she cannot stay with him, and she can't do that "Because of what you've done. What you plan to do." Lucas himself said that Padmé would certainly won't be able to live with him after this, although she would still love him. And even though she is well aware of the fact that Anakin massacred Tusken women and children, when Obi-Wan reveals that Anakin killed the younglings in the Jedi Temple, she reacts with saying, "Not Anakin. He couldn't." I saw many who found this ridiculous but it's quite clear that Lucas wants us to separate the two incidents, even though he says that Anakin killing the Tuskens is "completely inappropriate."
We can argue about whether or not it is a good thing, but if we watch the movies and the tv show, we have no real reason to believe that when they were described as creatures who are walking like men but they're actually mindless and vicious and animal-like monsters, it wasn't accurate. In fact, Lucas explicitly stated that he wanted the Tuskens to be introduced as such: deadly, treacherous, disliked, not completely human, as he said. This is not to say that they are not composed of light and dark, like all living things, but they're meant to be seen as a race of bloodthirsty and animal-like, primitive marauder creatures. They're the baboons in Disney's Tarzan.
So, in George Lucas' narrative, what Anakin did was certainly bad, but the emphasis is always on Anakin took lives out of hate, anger and aggression branching from his rage over not being able to have his mother in his life, descending into blind vengeance. A Jedi Knight must not take revenge, no matter what, and must be able to be in control of his dark side. That's the point.
The portrayal of the Tusken Raider as more human, even noble, with complex spirituality and traditions is (and again, we can argue about whether or not it's a good thing, but that's another conversation) coming from Book of Boba Fett and the Mandalorian, and it can be traced back to some Legends works. Viewing Attack of the Clones with this in mind, Anakin massacring the Sand People village is basically the genocide of a tribe of natives and Padmé's reaction to it is deeply concerning and it seems she either ignores it or simply just doesn't care. But in Lucas' narrative, the Tusken raiders, like I wrote it above, are closer to stereotypical baboons. Their death is not acknowledged as something that has the same wight as the death of the younglings. Or the Ewoks, who were prepared to cook Luke and Han. Even more importantly, if you watch the Clone Wars episode Trespass, on the surface, the Talz are very similar to the Tuskens, yet, they're worlds apart, and the story makes sure that their equality is clearly emphasized. If the Tuskens would meant to be seen similarly, there would've been an episode introducing them in a similar way.
The Tuskens are nightmarish nomadic maunderer creatures roaming a desert planet, intelligent and able to create culture, but driven by basic instincts, inspired by horror stories about desert dwelling, nightmarish nomadic maunderer tribes that were based on stereotypical depiction of the Bedouin, who historically raided trade caravans, villages at the margins of settled areas and threatened cities. So, Padmé's reaction to Anakin's confession and she marrying him anyway should be interpreted with this in mind.
Like I said, we can argue about whether or not it's a good thing, but that's another discussion - to be able to have that discussion, I think, it's crucial to clarify, what is the story that was told, how the characters, the creatures, the philosophies etc. were meant to be viewed, because then we can have a clear picture.

Grogu missed the Frog Lady and her husband and their son Tad. He’d had a lot of fun spending time with them on Trask, even though the rest of trip there had been less than ideal. He’d met some Mandos, almost been eaten by a mamacore, and had to deal with his dad leaving him behind when he could have been on an adventure. At least  the Frog Man had told him some great stories.
Grogu knew they were great stories because the Frog Lady had laughed so much while he told them and shook her head at him several times along with shaking a finger at him. Grogu knew from spending time with Peli that when someone looked like they were scolding you about a story, the story was well worth listening to.
The first story the Frog Man (Grogu didn’t really know how to pronounce his name because the Frog dialect was really tricky) told him was about how he met his partner. Apparently she had been working at a droid repair shop on Yerbana when he had been traveling with a group of Frog scientists. Their sample collection droid had malfunctioned and they brought it in for repairs.
The Frog Man said that it was love at first sight, which Grogu misunderstood initially as meaning they fell in love with the droid-smith shop. He could understand that. He loved work benches and tools and equipment and wished that Din Djarin would let him do more of the Razor Crest repair tasks, but after that whole blue wire/red wire thing, Grogu had been prohibited from helping on work like that.
No, the Frog Man had fallen in love with the Frog Lady the very time he saw her. Grogu thought the Frog Lady was very nice and she was smart and had been diligent in taking care of their offspring, but how do you just fall in love with someone you meet the very first time? Didn’t you need to get to know them? Understand their perspectives? Find out if they were a good cook? After all, if he’d known that the Mandalorian thought that ration packs were the height of cuisine he might have stayed on Sorgan or with Peli, who at least understood that dung worms were a delicacy not to be passed up. (No, not really. He loved his dad.)
The Frog Man said his partner had a certain softness to her eyes and her voice was like listening to a symphony. Grogu agreed that those were probably very good things. If you were going to spend you lifetime raising offspring with another person, you’d really want their company to pleasant, although he thought he would agree to disagree over what made someone sound like a symphony.
Grogu had asked the Frog Man how they had ended up separated, because he took a big risk letting his partner travel without him. What if she had decided to stay on Tatooine? That’s when both Frogs laughed long and loud. Grogu didn’t understand what was so funny but he figured it must have been a shared memory of something they had done together.
The Frog Man pointed out that Tatooine had very little water and frogs of all kinds really needed water to live their best lives. They weren’t Tuskens after all. Grogu nodded at that. He knew that the Tuskens loved the deserts of Tatooine more than anything and then he wondered if they also fell in love at first sight? He wondered how that worked given all the clothing and face coverings they wore? Maybe his dad, the Mandalorian would be able to explain that one. Mandos had the same problem as far as Grogu could tell.
Getting back to his story, the Frog Man told Grogu that a new species of mamacore had just been discovered on Trask and that the other Frog researchers had asked for his help in understanding its biology. Grogu had laughed at that. He was pretty sure that any mamacore’s biology was based on eating whatever was thrown its way, including metal prams, and humans in beskar armor.
At any rate, the Frog Man had travelled on a head knowing that his partner would follow as soon as she could. And that’s what happened. More or less. He also told Grogu that the trip they made would be imprinted on their off spring and continue through their genetic line well into the future.
Grogu said he hoped that didn’t mean they’d all want to go back to that ice-cube planet because he was pretty sure the spiders wouldn’t like it. Both Frogs had laughed at that.
No, their offspring would always remember him and the Mandalorian and the service they had provided in getting them safely to Trask, according to the Frog Lady. Grogu was a little overwhelmed by that. He had no idea that you could be born to like someone just because they had known you when you were nothing more than an egg.
Maybe that’s how love at first sight worked… or not. He’d loved Din Djarin pretty much from their very first meeting, but he was also pretty sure that he’d never met the Mandalorian when he was nothing more than an egg. It was a good thing humans didn’t store their eggs in jars like the Frog Lady had. Who knows what could have happened?
