Episode 8 of My Adventures with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
Episode 9 of My Adventure with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
Episode 10 of My Adventures with Superman Easter Eggs and references is here
(SPOILERS obviously):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An obvious one, but a classic, the "up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!" line reference. This one never gets old.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jimmy next name drops Flamebird. in the comics Nightwing and Flamebird were Kryptonian superheroes adopting their names from a species of Kryptonian birds. This is where Dick Grayson gets his Nightwing identity from. The page here is from Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe #17 (1986) drawn by Curt Swan and Karl Kesel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the climatic battle of part 2 of Adventures of a Normal Man, we see Leslie Willis become blue and look more like her traditional Livewire look. Her first appearance was in Superman the Animated Series, season 2 episode 5 "Livewire" where she was voiced by Lori Petty, a.k.a. Tank Girl. In the show Leslie was a shock jock radio DJ slinging hot takes live on air knocking down Superman a peg or two
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously MAwS took Leslie in a whole different direction, design choice, and occupation change, but I am excited to see what happens next for her.
Tumblr media
Before we see Clark battle Leslie we see this guy. White hair, wears orange and black, its Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke. This fool here in like 20 to 25 years will have his life spiral out of control and get his ass kicked by a bunch of colorfully dressed teenagers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deathstroke makes his first appearance in New Teen Titans #2 (1980) (W: Marv Wolfman and George Perez, P: George Perez, I: Romeo Tanghal, C: Adrienne Roy, L: Ben Oda) where he is hired by H.I.V.E. to kill the Teen Titans. In the comics he's a major piece of shit, but a damn good assassin.
Tumblr media
After the fight we see Supes clean up and he picks up a billboard that reads Amazotech.
Tumblr media
This is a good reference to Professor Anthony Ivo, a mad scientist of the DC Universe who built the Amazo robot who could adapt and replicate any power that the Justice League has and weaknesses. Both Ivo and the Amazo robot make their first appearances here in Brave and the Bold #30 (1960) with the cover art done by Mike Sekowsky and Murphy Anderson.
Tumblr media
At the end of the episode Slade name drops Task Force X better known as the Suicide Squad. The name "Suicide Squad" is from the Brave and the Bold #25 where it was the name of Rick Flag's unit in the military. The Suicide Squad pop culture knows first debuted in Legends #3 (1987) as seen below (W: John Ostrander and Len Wein, P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tom Ziuko, L: Steve Haynie).
Tumblr media
The team at this time was composed of Rick Flag, Bronze Tiger, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Enchantress, and Blockbuster. The team members have changed out with each new Task Force X/Suicide Squad iteration.
Tumblr media
Behind Slade, here is Amanda Waller, the most fearsome woman in the DC universe. She's ruthless, politically powerful, and will not hesitate to blow up anyone in the Suicide Squad if they screw up. She makes her first appearance in Legends #1 (1987) same comic series in the previous picture. Very excited to see where My Adventures with Superman goes with this cuz you don't see Superman interact with Deathstroke or Suicide Squad all the often.

(This has been said a lot but idc)
He loses his bestfriend, he's destroyed and he cries because he thinks he's dead and he's going to blame himself because he'll think it's his fault. The song in the background is Heroes. And the lyrics, at this precise moment are:
"And we kissed, as though nothing could fall. And the shame, [changing to Joyce and Jonathan] the shame was on the other side."
Which is a clear queer coding. That means that Mike and Will kissed (= spent time together, very close) as though nothing could fall (= nothing could go wrong), and the shame (= of being gay) was on the other side (= the Upside Down, where Will is. Because he's the obvious gay one). And it changed to Joyce and Jonathan because they're Will's family.
And now, let's skip to Season 3:
Tumblr media
This hug, from end of season 3 is a clear parallel of the first one we saw on season 1. His face isn't obviously the same. In season 1, we can see he's sad, crying and he hugs his mom desperately. But season 3, shows a confused, emotionless Mike who hugs his mother like he's in shock. Why's that? Well...
The parallel is to show Mike's feelings. In the end of season 3, when El kisses Mike, his eyes are wide open, he doesn't move and when she's done and leaves he doesn't move, instead he looks on the side with a super confused and shocked face. And in the original script (sorry couldn't find it), we saw that Mike's reaction was like this because it was written:
What is wrong with me?
Tumblr media
So it was meant for him to be that way (and btw Finn played it well). And then, when Hopper reads his letter to El, we can hear his voice with scenes showing up. And when he says:
"And if I'm being really honest, I don't want things to change."
Mike looks back at Will's house before leaving with his bike.
Tumblr media
This is a lowkey queer coding. Change is the liking boys realization from Mike's side. And why Hopper says "I don't want things to change" ? Because the change means the behavior change for Mike. He'll feel like a mistake, just like Will, he'll feel different, incapable of liking a girl like every other boys his age...
So what I'm trying to say is. That these two scenes are parallels to show Mike's improvement and changement over the seasons. Season 1 he was sad because of the loss of his bestfriend. But why would we only see Mike's POV and not Dustin's or Lucas' ? They also cared about Will. No, we only see Mike's because he's Will's love interest. And in Season 3 we see a total confused Mike hugging his mother, trying to understand what happened. Because what happened is that he understood, he finally admitted he was in love with Will. Why's that? Well, first he's confused by El's I love you, and kiss. Then he looks back at Will's house, knowing he just left. And finally he hugs his mom trying to figure out what's wrong with him. Cause he thinks there's something wrong with him, as seen in the script (try to find it yourself, cause I couldn't. But I remember sawing it on Twitter 'X' !). And it's even more possible because Mike's introduction in season 4, has a lot of queer coding. I'll try to list them all.
Tumblr media
Rainbows on the letter (= signifies lgbtq+), One Way arrow pointing to an open closet (= one way arrow -> "only possible thing/explanation", open closet -> he's out to himself), Poster with a naked Dragon (= just like Steve or Billy, straight boys, have, almost naked women, on their walls, Mike has almost naked character, men and animals from dnd), poster from a movie with an almost naked man (= to understand he likes them naked, just a gay thing I guess ;-;). For this last point, yes there's also a woman almost naked, however since the movie is about men, being way superior to women (that's the movie don't blame me, and I can't remember its name, sorry), I'm not sure he'd really want to have this woman in particular in his room.
Also there's one of Will's binder under his bed, the same one where there are tons of his drawings and finally, I'd like to end up with Mike literally destroying El's letter when Nancy tells him he's late (who does that?). So yeah that's all I could find, there's probably more, which needs more attention and analysis but I did the minimum let's say.
So all of this, to say that season 1 and 3 hugs were parallels of Mike's feelings, and that the season 3's is more possible when we notice the character introduction of Mike in season 4. So yeah, he really had a Gay realization over there!

Payback Ch. 1
A Stranger Things AU where Steve Harrington gets shrunk down to five inches tall, and one Eddie Munson is the one who finds him. Now, if only Eddie didn't think this was all a drug-induced hallucination.
Set in post-Season 3 but pre-Season 4!
-
Steve was not having a good day.
Was this particularly surprising? Maybe a couple of years ago, yeah.
However, after having survived a whopping three attempts from what an average joe would not be far off from correct by calling demons from hell, well. Let’s just say it wasn’t exactly atypical for Steve to no longer have only good days.
The difference now, however, was that he wasn’t currently in the midst of fighting an impending apocalypse or the related monsters, he wasn’t having nightmares about either of said scenarios, and he wasn’t even suffering through a more monotonous than usual day at the video store.
No, today, Steve woke up and immediately realized several things were amiss, a task made easy considering the fact that there was 1) no roof over his head, 2) there was instead a shockingly high up canopy of trees interspersed with clear blue skies, 3) he had a headache to rival the time he’d gotten his face beaten in by Billy, and 4) the grass around his stood at about waist high.
Yeah, that fourth realization had come around as soon as he’d shot upright in a blind panic, hands clutching at his head as he'd let out a pained groan.
Now, several hours later, Steve could quite assuredly give three additional claims that were likely facts: he was undeniably lost, his headache had thankfully abated, and he was currently the height of a fucking goddamned soda can.
He knew that last one because he’d stumbled across a can of pop and found that the top of his head just reached the lip of it.
Which was absolutely fantastic.
He had half a mind to think this was all some sort of messed up dream, but he was unfortunately well aware that he was not nearly imaginative enough for that, and he hadn’t been to any parties recently where he could’ve been slipped some drugs that might’ve been able to make up for his innate deficiency.
So it was pretty safe to say that this was real, and he was probably going to die.
Why would this being real mean he would probably die, you might wonder?
Well, the answer was more reasonable than you’d expect:
He was being chased by a goddamned rodent that was nearly double his size.
-
Eddie snapped out of his daze at the sound of a shrill scream, his chin slipping off from where it’d been propped up against his palm at the abrupt break in the relative silence around him.
He sat up on the wood bench, wincing at the drag of the splintering grain against his jeans, and scanned the trees around him.
Nothing.
His brows furrowed minutely, and he stubbed his joint against his metal lunchbox, tapping out the ash and shoving it inside a baggie in the tin.
Maybe he was just hearing things? he mused, turning the thought over in his head before giving a mental shrug. Well -
His eyes snapped back up. There it was again! - a shout. High pitched in the sense that it was at such a quiet decibel, followed by the sound of rustling leaves.
His head slowly tilted to the side, and he leaned his whole body with the motion to peer around the picnic table and towards where the noise had emanated from.
“...Hello?” he called out cautiously, dragging out the word, gaze darting around as he found himself rising from his seat. He crouched down when he heard another rustle followed by a yelp.
That was definitely coming from somewhere close to the ground, and it sounded deceptively… not like an animal, Eddie thought, squinting his eyes as he scanned the leaf litter in the grass.
Movement had his head snapping to the left just in time to track it, and he sprang forth without another thought, the motion more of an awkward frog leap because of his stance, and saw -
What the hell?
It - what?
That was a person.
An itty bitty person, face hidden by their mussed up hair and only their waist and up visible through the foliage, but what Eddie was pretty sure was a human - or, at the very least, very human-like - nonetheless.
One being chased by a very disgruntled looking mouse.
For a second, Eddie found himself just staring at the completely incomprehensible scene, thoughts dazedly somewhere along the line of ‘wow, I’ve finally actually lost it and my mind’s entered some fucked up Alice in Wonderland type shit, hasn’t it?’ but he snapped out of it as the teeny tiny person gave another yell when the mouse snapped at them, the rodent’s teeth momentarily snagging on the back of the teeny's shirt.
Eddie’s hand darted forward unthinkingly, and, from one moment to the next, he had a fistful of person held up in front of his face, the mouse giving an aborted squeak and darting away as soon as he made his move.
Meanwhile, the being (?) squirmed in his hand, having first given a shout in surprise at suddenly being caught before letting out grunts and puffs of air as they tried to push fruitlessly at his fingers, their tiny, miniscule little hands shoving at his skin and hardly doing anything but leaving the faintest of indents.
Eddie blinked rapidly, bringing them closer to his face.
He’d smoked weed today, sure - when did he not? - but it’d never given him hallucinations before. 'Cause that’s sure as hell what this had to be. A hallucination, that is.
There was no other explanation for the fact that, staring right back up at him, face frozen in a mixture of shock and burgeoning dread, was none other than Steve fucking Harrington.

Epic Steddie Fic Rec | April 3rd-16th 2023
Tumblr media
I never know what to say here 😆 I hope you guys had a good Easter if you celebrate? I hope you enjoy this rec? If I forgot to tag anyone, tell me? :P
Complete
🖤 starts with an h, sounds like potential by formosus_iniquis/ @formosusiniquis (4K | Teen): Eddie knows he got to Hawkins a little later than everyone else. He wasn't born and raised in the six miles of town with the same eight people his whole life. There was a whole social services kerfuffle that meant he didn't land in this small town hell hole until he was the ancient age of thirteen. But even without all that he is fucking positive that there was no Henderson in any of his three graduating classes. Yet here Henderson the supposed younger sits painting him a mystery week after week. Steve said this, Steve did that, Steve may very well be a delusion if the way the others giggle and sigh every time he gets brought up is any indication.
🖤 i can't take it when you touch me by deadratz (First Time, PWP | 20K | Explicit): Eddie is too embarrassed to tell Steve he's still a virgin. Their relationship gets to a point where he knows he can't keep it from him anymore. Steve makes it clear to Eddie that he doesn't mind at all. (Part 1 of locked in)
🖤 feels so good i could explode by deadratz (First Time, PWP | 12K | Explicit): After his first time, Eddie decides he loves sex. Particularly, sex with Steve Harrington. It's just that he doesn't really think Steve Harrington is going to love continuing to have sex with him after, what Eddie considers to be, a poor performance. Steve does what he does best and proves Eddie wrong. (Part 2 of locked in)
Slutty Social Media by blissedoutvixen (University AU | 15K | Explicit): Or: Steve has a really slutty Instagram presence and it's kind of ruining Eddie's life.
🖤 To Offer You a Little Relief by IndigoFudge (Canon Divergent, S4 Vol. 2 | 8K | Teen): Eddie pitches forward a bit, head falling against Steve’s shoulder. He’s shaking again. “I’m so sorry, Stevie,” he murmurs. “I think I’m in love with you. Worst fuckin’ time, but I think I’m in love with you. How about that.” It may not hurt to breathe, but it hurts to exist. Steve wishes it was tomorrow. Steve wishes it was tomorrow and Eddie was in the hospital safe and there would be a world of time for everything. “You’re gonna laugh,” he says, even though it’s the furthest thing from funny. “I think I’m in love with you too.” • What if Dustin had gone with Lucas, Max, and Erica? What if Nancy and Robin had killed Vecna alone? What if Steve had been with Eddie? What if that had made all the difference?
amplification by Adure/ @toburnup (Dreamsharing, PWP | 2K | Explicit): "And what if it's about you?" Steve asks, eyes serious. Questioning. "Would it still be a compliment?" Eddie's throat is bone dry. He blinks, feels each thought rearrange into something less comprehensible. Steve's hand is warm against his back. "As long as it's a good dream." (Part 3 of parasomnia)
somatic by Adure/ @toburnup (Dreamsharing, PWP | 3K | Explicit): "Apparently we've been hanging out at night without me realizing," Steve says quietly and he doesn't look mad, or even sound upset. He's just... looking. "Don't say it like that," Eddie says and the words are muffled underneath his palm as he scrubs his face. "The other night was... the first time I did that." Steve's smile melts into something less playful, almost unsure. "But if you—if you did that, that means you could feel—?" (Part 4 of parasomnia)
just an animal looking for a home by deadratz (PWP, First Time | 26K | Explicit): The first time Steve sees Eddie’s dick, there’s blood everywhere, his hands are trembling, and he’s too scared his friend is gonna die to think too much of it. But then he keeps seeing it, and he thinks about it a lot. Turns out Eddie’s been thinking about him, too.
WIP
🖤 better by you, better than me by palmviolet/ @palmviolet (Canon Divergent, Season 1-2 | 27/? | 142K | Mature | Warning: Violence): November 1983. Between unpaid bills, the supposedly straight jock he’s seeing, and letters from his convict dad, seventeen year old Eddie Munson’s got enough to worry about. But when Will Byers goes missing, it sparks a chain of events that will show there are more depths to Hawkins — and to certain people in it, like infamous Steve ‘The Hair’ Harrington — than he realizes. / or, the excessively long slow-burn in which Eddie is involved in the Upside Down from the very beginning.
🖤 no me without you by cydonic (Post S4, Kas Eddie | 5/10 | 28K | Mature): Eddie Munson dies, the world is still ending, and Steve Harrington doesn’t know how he’s supposed to keep going. That is, until he comes face to familiar face with the creature killing people in Hawkins.
Operation Parent Trap by ChronicRabbit/ @chronicrabbit (Post-S4, The Party | 4/? | 8K | Mature): It all started with a crush. Not one that anyone expected, per se, but a crush nonetheless. The Party embarks upon a sacred quest; a quest to hook up their oblivious babysitter and their moon-eyed DM with the ultimate Parent Trap!
🖤 Reboot by plutosrose/ @plutosrose (Modern AU, Actor Steve & Eddie | 5/10 | 20K | Explicit): In 2012, Steve Harrington and Eddie Munson film a scene in the teen drama Normal Stuff that launches a popular ship on ao3. By early 2013, they aren’t speaking anymore. In 2024, Robin calls Steve with an offer to reprise his role as Andy Hartley in a reboot of their old show, with one important update–his character gets together with Eddie’s.
🖤 Swing and a Miss by deadonarrival (Baseball Player Steve, Fake Relationship | 3/5 | 19K | Explicit): “Apparently they usually reserve the box for the wives and girlfriends … so either you’re gonna have to be my boyfriend or you’re going to have to sit in the stands with the fans. It’s not that bad, you just need to like, pretend to be my boyfriend so you can sit with the other WAGs and like, then you can be in the box and have all you can drink alcohol and snacks.” “Did you agree to this!?” Eddie asks. “If I say yes, how mad are you going to be?” Steve asks.

5 headcanons from a Trollhunters AU of your choice?
So there's this AU that I've had vague ideas about for a while, a roleswap where I swap all the canon ships (not counting Word of God ships and ships where we never see one of the characters). Do note that while the canon ships are getting swapped, the only canon ship that definitely gets together in this AU is Jlaire. (Staja and Darby are both maybe's, but I'm leaning no because IDK how much sense they'd make in this 'verse. Everything else is a NOTP for me.) (Also due to the amount of canon ships, you get more than 5 headcanons.)
Stricklake: Waltolomew is Jim's dad. Jim's bio mom walked out on them when Jim turned five - she accidentally saw Strickler in his true form, and she just wanted to escape. She was concerned that Jim wasn't human either, and she didn't want anything to do with him. (She was right that Jim wasn't fully human, though that didn't manifest as anything other than a very mild iron allergy until he got possessed by Morgana.) Meanwhile, Barbara is a local doctor who ends up getting roped in after she sees too much going on with the local teen defenders, and also after she ends up as Jim's foster mom when Strickler went missing.
Jlaire: The last battle between Kanjigar and Bular took place in a slightly different location, one that Claire was able to ride her bike to. She picked up the amulet and wasn't detected as quickly as Jim was in canon due to Strickler not going into the women's locker rooms. This allows her to have just enough time to learn to fight without Bular killing her for not knowing her way around knives like Jim does. Jim, meanwhile, has recently had the truth of his heritage revealed to him. If he serves the Janus Order well enough, then he can undergo the ritual that could make him a polymorph. (He never goes through the ritual but gains the ability anyways thanks to Morgana.) In the latter half of season 1, he became Team Trollhunters' man on the inside because he can't accept a world where Gunmar reigns (and also because Claire is very pretty in her armor.)
Dromura: Nomura became Kanjigar's apprentice, and while she didn't 100% expect to become the next trollhunter, she is miffed that this human girl with no fighting experience became the next trollhunter instead of her. She also briefly had a fling with Draal, who's human form works with Barbara under the alias of Dr. Aalbregt. Nomura once tried to get Kanjigar and Draal to meet in the hopes that Draal would change sides, but Kanjigar claimed that the impure was not his son. Ouch.
Staja: I'm not saying that Aja is the school bully, but she is rivals with Claire & Mary for popularity, with Claire & Mary being the femme popular crowd and Aja being the star quarterback. (Aja and Darci were neighbors growing up, so they're slightly more cordial.) She also teases Eli, but in a more friendly way since he's her little brother's BFF (and also Eli might have a crush on Krel). Eventually, the Tarron twins + Eli find out the truth. Steve on the other hand is the slightly spoiled heir to House Palchuk of Akiridion V. Seklos help us all.
Nanavex: Varvatos used to babysit Darci and the Tarron twins, sometimes at the same time, because he lives near all of them. He taught them to fight and can tell that something is going on. He doesn't know what. Nancy's son, husband, and daughter-in-law were all killed by the Zerons, and she was left to raise her grandson on her own. Between this and
Darby: I just can't see Darci getting the gravity cursed hammer, and I also can't really see her using a bow in this AU despite her using it in my seasonal amulet AU. I'm gonna say that instead she stole a fancy looking flute from the museum at the end of the second battle of Killahead. This flute was actually the flute that belonged to the Pied Piper, and it allows her to control small animals... and also goblins, because of the long-running raccoon joke. Mary never gets quite as involved in trollhunting as the others do due to being squeamish around violence, which causes her to grow distant from Claire and Darci. The coup happens earlier, Toby makes a cool bracelet for her, and Mary is selfish enough that she decides to befriend this foreign weirdo in order to get cool bracelets. (Due to the coup happening earlier, the two supernatural groups meet earlier. Toby gets to meet Vendel, who is more impressed with him than in canon. Vendel also likes Toby better than Steve.)
Stuart x Gwen: "The bounty hunter (Stuart) you (Morando) sent after us (Steve, Nancy, and Toby) became part of our found family." Meanwhile, I have two potential takes on Gwen. The first is that she's an untrustworthy rogue agent, willing to sell alien tech but also willing to sell secrets to whomever she thinks can get her the best deal. The other is that I replace Gwen of Gorbon with Guinevere, who was an alien all along in this 'verse, and Arthur thought that this foul creature killed his wife when he saw her in her true form. (In the latter case, there would be parallels between Guinevere/Arthur and Waltolomew/Jim's bio mom.)
send me an au and i’ll give you 5+ headcanons about it

───WISHES TO BE THOUGHT.
Tumblr media
Summary: whilst hiding out in Reefer Rick’s boathouse, you visit Eddie to ease his worries, and he soon realizes things might not be so bad as long as you’re by his side.
T/CW: spoilers for Season 4 Volume 1!! It’s literally littered with them. Eddie’s POV. Mentions of death (semi-detailed), and dead animals.
A/N: hi, hey, hello. I cannot apologize for the fact that all my other WIPs are currently neglected just so that I can write for the loml. Brain rot took over, y’all.
Word Count: 4,869
Tumblr media
1986 at Hawkins High. It was supposed to be his year, his turn at hauling ass from the restrictions of high school and making his way out in the world, preferably with his band to hit it big time. He felt it in his bones, he knew this year would be different, but how far off the mark Eddie Munson was about just what this year would hold in store for him.
First, there was Chrissy—the happy, beautiful cheerleader who somehow remembered his name enough to schedule a deal out in the woods—who had the life ripped from her, crushed limb by limb, back flat against his trailer’s ceiling. Then there was the Hawkins’ basketball team and terrorizing leader, Jason, who was out for blood, thinking Eddie was the reason Chrissy was dead. Not to mention now, as a cherry on top, that the bright kid in his D&D club somehow knew exactly what was going on and that this was far from anything heard about in news reports, in fact, more so found within the pages of a fantasy book or storyboard related to one of his campaigns.
So, great. Not only does Eddie have to fear certain death from a bunch of air-head jocks, but he also has the impending worldwide doom threatening to target at any minute by a devilish being whom the group refers to as Vecna—and he would be lying if he said the very mention of it didn’t bring a cold, painful shiver down his spine. Hiding out in Reefer Rick’s boathouse was his only refuge at this point, with the comfort of knowing that Dustin and the rest of the group—and amongst them, Steve Harrington of all people—were trying their damnest to clear Eddie’s name and save his ass and the whole of Hawkins from what he could only call the devil.
Amidst the comfort of their aid was also yours, which he sometimes can’t believe is actually real. You and Eddie have been friends for a long time, much longer than anyone he’s known at school—excluding his bandmates, of course. The two of you had classes together until you graduated and Eddie was left behind army-crawling to pass with enough flying colors to get him out of the educated hell hole. A first surprise was that you kept in contact with him, then you rocked up to a few of his shows. As far back as he can remember, he’s seemed to always have your support.
So, really, your support now shouldn’t come as a surprise to him, but he’s been so on edge with everything that’s happened that he could only conclude in his head that you would believe the rumors and leave him for dead. Instead, you found him before the sun had even set on his first night held up in the boathouse, and you offered more than just a friendly shoulder to lean on—you offered food, supplies, reports, and beer, thank goodness.
Eddie was hoping for a miracle, and if he really thought about it then it would be no doubt that it came in the form of you still sticking by his side and believing him no matter what.
That doesn’t mean to say that he feels any less worried about everything, though. Sure you’ve been a big help, and when you stay longer than what he would think then it helps ease his mind a little from focusing too deeply on the bad of the situation, but his nerves were still sky high, and jittering at any and every sound that came from outside the boathouse might as well be second nature to him now.
Hearing the engine of a car was the first thing that startled him, then the sound of footsteps over dry leaves. He was curled up in the old boat situated in the middle of the shed, blanketed by the tarp like a kid hiding underneath bedsheets, so he hadn’t enough time to tumble out quietly enough to race to the window and check to see who it was, until, of course, the shed down swung open harshly, hitting straight into the side to make a loud bang noise, and Eddie jumped with as much might as a startled rabbit would by the abrupt entrance.
Then, light seeps through in the form of your voice. “Geez, Eddie! Put that bottle down, why don’t you?”
With an exasperated sigh, Eddie lowers the hand holding a smashed beer bottle in the form of his only weapon of defense. Hearing your voice and seeing your face was like coming home for Christmas, but did you really have to scare him like that? He would have appreciated a more subtle entrance, seeing as even the sound of a fly around here makes him freak out.
“Why the hell would you barge in like that?” Eddie groans, dragging a hand down his face and digging his fingers into his cheek. “A warning next time!”
“Sorry,” you recoil, shrugging your shoulders up only slightly before pushing the door shut. “It’s windy as anything out there, the door flung open by itself.”
“Right,” he says through clenched teeth, the tension in his body nowhere near gone.
He’s honestly getting used to the weather out here. That, or, he’s just becoming numb to it all because of how caught up in his own mind he seems to be at all times. It’s a dangerous place to be, especially since it likes to torment him with grotesque memories of how Chrissy’s body looked when he couldn’t get through to her, and how even though there seemed to be nothing he could do, he should’ve tried harder. Now the town really does think him a freak, and not in the fun, mockery way he was content with being labeled as. No, now he’s the freak who killed a high school student in his own trailer.
He grumbles to himself, hating how twisted his mind gets and how easy it is to slip back into panic mode, but he shakes his head a little bit, the long strands of his hair whipping from left to right, trying to shake the thoughts out of his ears. Right now he should focus on the fact that you’ve come to see him, even though it felt a little obligatory as the group was apparently busy chasing leads, so really you were the only remaining option. That’s why you still come here, right? Eddie can’t think there could be any other reason other than the fact that you’re a good friend and a good human, too.
A brown paper bag is hooked under your left arm, filled to the brim with more stuff to keep Eddie going while he’s nested up in this place. “It’s freezing out.”
Only now does Eddie notice the way you’re shivering, only slightly but still something he should have picked up on sooner—though he was scared out of his wits so he couldn’t exactly blame himself, nor does he think you would.
“It’s colder by the lake,” he says, stepping toward you and taking the bag from your arms and setting it down on the bench, which you smile gratefully at him. “I can’t exactly feel it right now, not with what’s going on.”
“I guess that’s a good thing,” you look him over, settling at his eyes when it seems you’ve assessed that he happens to be faring fine physically. “Do you want me to bring a blanket next time?”
“That’s okay,” he shakes his head, smiling tiredly as he gestures over to the boat in a frustrated, sluggish manner. “I’ve got a tarp.”
Woo-hoo, right? That’s pretty much the type of excitement he could manage. Sure, his trailer isn’t that fantastic either—it wasn’t exactly a home, just a place he and his uncle could sleep and keep sheltered—but he hasn’t exactly stepped up the ladder much with this place, even though it’s the only place he can think of that will keep him hidden. For how much longer, he doesn’t want to think about. That, at least, is something he fights his mind on dwelling over.
“Right,” you smile at him, more so to offer some friendliness to how pathetic that comment about the tarp really was. “Well, I’ve got food, water, and some books to keep you sane.”
Eddie crosses his arms, leaning back on the side of the boat as your hands dig through the contents of the paper bag beside him. “I don’t think I’m in the mood for reading.”
Give him pizza and D&D any day, just don’t give him a paperback. He’s a little over reading books with how he’s had to retake his senior year twice already now. He should know, though, that you aren’t the kind of person who takes no for an answer.
“It’ll help take your mind off of everything,” you say whilst still rummaging through the bag. At last, you pull out a cassette player triumphantly. “But maybe music will help you feel better.”
He chuckles, taking said cassette player from your hand and flipping it over in his hold. It never ceases to amaze him how all it takes is a few words and a smile from you to make him feel like everything was going to be okay. Before Vecna, Eddie didn’t really believe in magic, though it became his entire personality, and even though it would be cool to cast a few of his own spells if possible. But now knowing the truth, he’s got to believe you’ve got some magic in you too. Hell, your name alone was practically a saving grace.
Nodding at the player in his hand, you continue. “I still had some of your old cassettes in my room, so I thought they’d do the trick.”
Eddie’s brows furrow a fraction, tilting his head at you. “You had my cassettes in your bedroom?”
You raise a hand at him—something to say, stop talking right now—when that look on his face turns teasing, leaning on the bench with one arm. “You gave them to me when we worked on Mr. Cane’s science project together. You said, and I quote, that ‘other music will rot your brain, but this will blow your mind.’”
An airy laugh breaks through his smile, tucking his hands even further under his arms with them crossed over his chest, the cassette player poking at his skin. “I totally forgot about that.”
“Aren’t you glad you have me around to remind you?”
Yes, he wants to say. Yes, I’m more than glad to have you around, and please, oh please, can you stay? As much as he wants to say it, he doesn’t want to feel like a burden. He already had to have some sense knocked into him when you started looking after him here, but he can’t help but feel that you could be spending your time doing other things than buying him supplies while he awaits the fire of an angry mob one of these days.
“The roads are pretty quiet,” you inform him. “There’s not a lot of activity on the school’s end. I think the police are keeping them at bay while they’re investigating.”
“Right,” he nods, thumb spinning one of the many signature rings on his fingers. “That won’t last for long.”
“Hey,” you nudge his arm, gaining his attention on you. Your voice comes through to him a little softer, more sturdy in a soothing way. “You’re going to be fine. Dustin and the others will sort this whole mess out and before you know it you’ll be jamming out with the band again while I sit all pretty and watch you play.”
He offers you a small grin, but it fades pretty quickly. First, he feels like a burden to have you fret over him. Now, he feels guilty that you would waste so much time on him even if things were to go back to normal. There are so many things he’d do differently if he could just rewind time and set things straight. For one, he reasons, he wouldn’t have run. As time ebbs away, he’s starting to fear that running is becoming his most prominent attribute.
It’s the sound of you folding shut the paper bag and shoving it across the bench that wakes Eddie up from his deep thought, watching as you look around the boathouse for something, which he soon realizes is a chair when you opt for sitting on a stack of toolboxes off to the side. It takes what feels like a span of minutes for him to register what you’re doing, and then those minutes turn into stretched-out silence that he couldn’t poke at even if he wanted to.
Scratching the back of his head, he watches you let out a breath and then look at him with eyes that say why the hell are you staring at me? “Uh, are you... staying?”
“Yeah,” you nod at him, your tone of voice emphasizing that it should be obvious. “You think I’m just gonna drop some supplies at your feet and book it back to riot town? No way.”
“Oh,” comes his reply, something edging on boyish. Thank you speaks the voice inside him, the one that prods him to say what he feels instead of bottling it up like he so often does. At least, he does when it comes to pretty people... when it comes to you.
Suddenly the nerves of being found, of getting his ass beat and buried, are replaced with nerves of you sticking around, for staying for whoever knows how long and what the hell he is going to do in the time that you stay here with him. He’s not exactly got a list of things up his sleeve to entertain you with, nor is he sure he’s the best host when said place of residency happens to be a drug dealer’s boathouse because everything on the outside of it was threatening to rip him to shreds. Magic or not, you seem to have taken him up on his wish for you to stay. Now he’s wondering if that was the wisest thing to wish for if he only had three chances.
With a tap, tap, tap to the cassette player still in his hand, thumping with his thumb, he crosses the limited distance from the boat to where you sit on the other side, crouching down beside you and raising a hand at you when you offer the toolboxes you’re currently sat on. Honestly, he’d much rather hover like this than sit on those metal boxes which look oh so comfortable. Not.
Another sigh slips past your lips, this time because even if Eddie was the guy on the run you still would offer up a seat to him. It’s just the kind of person you are. That, together with a long list of other reasons, is why Eddie likes you so much. You gave him more than just a chance when you became friends all those years ago, you saw beyond the stereotypes he was labeled with. You saw him for himself, for all the things underneath the titles and the flamboyance. You’re one of the extremely few who see him like that—his uncle being one of them—and, in all honesty, one of the few that he lets see him like this. Not Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson, just Eddie. Somehow, he really likes being just that around you.
It’s a miracle you don’t catch him staring, but he scares himself a little bit into thinking that when you speak. “It’s quieter without you around, you know.”
He huffs, looking around the boathouse. This place was quiet. He’s sure all of Hawkins is shouting his name in anarchy. “I bet everyone is loving that.”
“I’m not,” you say, eyes meeting his when he turns to look at you, a response simmering in disbelief. “I really hate the quiet.”
“Then you’d love it here,” he jokes, waiting for the smile to grace your lips and lift his spirits.
Instead, it’s short. “They’re all saying such terrible things, and it’s killing me because I know I could shut them up if I just said something but... I know I can’t.”
The strain in your voice is evident, even though your eyes look like they’re glossing over how badly you feel. It hurts him to see you like this, and stings a bit, too, knowing that you feel this way because of him. It shouldn’t be like this. You should be having the year of your life, just like he thought he would have, instead of sitting with him in an old, worn-down boathouse. You deserve better than this, better than him, and far better than being tied to the name of what the town believes to be a killer. What kind of comments must be thrown your way because of your association with him.
Eddie places a hand on your knee, squeezing assuredly. “I don’t need you on the defense. Just keep bringing me Honeycombs and beer and that’s as much fighting as I need you to do.”
Finally, you chuckle. It’s warm, brightening your expression—making you shine, though he sees you like that even when you’re not smiling, but he’s too hesitant to ever say that.
“I see where your heart lies,” you snicker at him, leaning to the side to push onto his shoulder playfully.
No, you really don’t. If you saw where his heart lies, you’d be staring straight into a mirror.
He keeps up the role of jester, just to see you smile. “Hey, I’ll take anything over the expired Spaghetti-O’s in the pantry.”
“Oh, ew,” you grimace, earning a chuckle on his end.
“That’s a smell I’m not going to forget.”
“Even worse than the time there was a dead rat in the ceiling during one of your campaigns?”
He laughs, patting your knee like he’s emphasizing each word that comes out of his mouth. “Even worse than that. Absolutely disgusting.”
You laugh in return, shaking your head. “I’ve missed you. I even miss Hellfire,” when he perks up a centimeter, you show him a youthful smile. “Occasionally.”
“Oh, of course,” he waves you off as if he actually believes a word of it. “I know how much you love those sessions.”
“And how much is that?”
He feigns consideration, pressing a finger against his bottom lip. “About as much as you love Spaghetti-O’s.”
You knock your knee against his and he bubbles over with delight, bitting down on the nail of his finger as he lets your laughter swallow up the dullness of the room. Really, when he thinks about it, this place isn’t too bad when he’s got someone here to make him forget about his problems. Hell, he knows it’s true; this place is the best damn place on earth when you’re by his side.
The wind bellows against the boathouse, making it creak, and it’s as if he’s left the window pried open because you shiver even just by the sound of it. “You still cold?”
“A little bit,” you nod, running your hands up and down your arms.
“Here, this’ll help,” he peels off his jacket and vest combo, shaking them out like they have dust all over them. When you protest, he simply shushes you and all about throws the clothing over your shoulders, tugging the ends of it forward so that it wraps around you completely. “What kind of gracious host would I be if I didn’t offer you my jacket?”
He’s kneeling in front of you now, still moving the material like he could close it up anymore. He feels your breath fan his face before you say anything. “Isn’t that what a gentleman does?”
“I’m a gentleman,”
“Sure you are.”
Eddie opens his mouth, pressing a hand onto his chest with mockery offense. “I can’t believe you think so little of me.”
He laughs it off before you even reply to his comment, already feeling that bubble of friendship surrounding the two of you like a little world tucked away in a snow globe. At least, if anything and after everything, he’s certain he’ll always have you in his life, even if it was just like this. Maybe, when all odds are put against each other, having this with you is enough.
But then you speak, and Eddie convinces himself that he sees that bubble all but pop. “I think the world of you,”
Your eyes meet and, if Eddie is being honest with himself, he’s not exactly prepared for how strong your gaze on him is. It’s not sharp, not at all a stare, but rather the kind of look someone gives a person who remembers something about them, like their birthday or that one random fact they mentioned when they thought no one was really paying any attention. It’s a look that says to Eddie, loud and clear, that he’s your snow globe—the kind of person in your life that you couldn’t imagine it without.
“Yeah?” he whispers, more so because if you said that just to be kind then he wants to be certain, otherwise the fluttering in his chest might all but explode if he lets himself tip into hope.
“Yeah,” you nod, moving your hands up to cover his two still holding onto his jacket. “Your hands are warm.”
“I’m afraid I can only offer you the tarp,” he tilts his head, mind and heart racing. Slow down, damn you.
You shake your head at him like he really had the option up for an offer, then lean forward to kneel down in front of him, completely off of the toolboxes. You’re close, so close to him, and he’s losing all sense of reality because there’s no way in hell that you’d be this close to him unless he’s imagining it. His heart skips a beat in his chest when you don’t stop there but continue to lean forward, and he’s sucking in an inaudible breath before your head slips beside his, your arms wrapping around him.
“You’re warmer than the tarp,” your voice pulses against his skin, writing itself there too when you nuzzle your face into the crook of his neck.
He’s too shocked to process what exactly is going on, his mind still spinning at thinking, for one second, that you were going to close the gap between you both rather than go in for the hug. Though he’s hugged you countless times, and almost each one being the very thing he held onto since it was the closest he’s ever thought he’d get to you, this one is different. It’s not a hug to say hello, or goodbye, or even to support him after a performance with his band, but this hug is comfier like you’re slotting yourself against him as if you were fitting yourself into a home. He’d give you the damn lock and key if that were even remotely possible.
“Hey,” he speaks, masking the shake of his voice by playing it off as a chuckle. “Don’t take me for all I’m worth.”
He feels the curl of your lips against his skin and even that alone has his eyes fluttering shut briefly, almost sending him falling forward. But he holds his position, finally wrapping his arms around you, more so for the support. The very action has you humming contently, taking in a deep breath before you pull back slightly but leave your arms where they are. If he thought you were close before, you all but prove him wrong. Just an inch closer and your noses would be touching. He imagines yours would be cold.
“I can’t leave without a hug first,” you say, and he thinks oh. “I’ve missed those as well.”
“Me too,” he whispers, half because he does and half because he doesn’t want you catching the disappointment on his face. “You better head out before it gets dark.”
“Yeah, that would be a good idea.”
It’s true, so he nods. But you still kneel there and still keep your arms around him, not even so much as shifting to make a move to stand up. It’s silent with the absence of your pleasant goodbye, even though he’s waiting on you to say it. He’s waiting on you to do a lot of things—speak, for one, and move away like he would have thought you would be doing by now. Maybe he’s the one who’s supposed to do something, but he hasn’t a clue what that something is. Did you want him to say something else? Are you waiting for him to take his jacket back? He hasn’t actually forgotten that it is your birthday, right?
It’s drawing out too long now and Eddie has no idea what to do, so he accepts the embarrassment of asking and simply goes for it. “Was there anything you wanted—?”
Before he even finishes his sentence, your lips are on his, completely silencing him, even though the remaining words muffle against both your mouths, and the peak of his voice gets buried there, too. Entirely taken by surprise, Eddie can’t do anything but hold his breath with eyes blown wide, totally frozen on the spot. Before the life can find its way down his arms and to his fingers, you’re pulling away from him, and he’s ready to hear you say that it was a mistake and that you weren’t thinking straight, since he’s hardly thinking in the same manner right now, not with that kind of shock.
You wait there, watching him. Eyebrows upturned in expectancy, holding out for his response. His mind is blank, his thoughts and heart flatlined. He doesn’t move, doesn’t move, and he needs to hurry up and do something otherwise this moment is going to go from amazing to uncomfortable within the next breath. On his own, he’s not sure if he would have reacted, but the feeling of your fingertips against his back, starting to slip away from him, is the very shock he needs to charge straight through his bones and kickstart his heart back to life.
And he caves in, and he kisses you. Both hands on either side of your face, guiding your lips back against his and pressing them fully this time, completely head first into the dizziness just that one kiss had him feeling. This time it’s not one pair of lips but two moving against each other, over and over again, agile and gallant and quickly growing impatient since he’s waited for this moment for what feels like his entire life, and you assure him that you’ve wanted this too with how your fingers curl into his Hellfire Club shirt, pulling him into you like the space between you both is disgraceful.
He parts his lips and you share his breath, and when he tilts his head to kiss you deeper this time, the hum in your throat practically vibrates through him, and he replies likewise with a slight smile on his lips by the way you shiver in reaction, knowing that it wasn’t the cold that did that to you. It was all him, all for you. Dangerously his lips weigh against yours, breathless and sweltering and indecent. He knows he’s too far gone to disguise this moment as anything less but passion and longing, but the way you kiss him back—eager and mercurial—soothes that spike of worry to conclusion.
You’re sucking in a breath by the time he lets you breathe, his nose and forehead against yours, his eyes still shut. He fears that the moment he opens his eyes you’ll be gone and he’ll be left with the slap of the truth that he was just simply lost in his thoughts again. Your breathless chuckle settles that assumption, though, and he slowly looks at you through half-lidded eyes to meet your smile, smitten and bright as he always sees it as. It takes one look and he’s chuckling too, awestruck in the moment.
“I’m not dreaming, right?” he asks genuinely, feeling ridiculous. “That just happened?”
When you nod, your noses brush against each other. “Yeah, that just happened.”
He lets out a breath, not being able to hold back just how wide his smile grows. “Good, because there’s no way I could go back to being friends after that.”
You laugh, wrapping your arms around him once more, tenderly this time. “I don’t want to be anything less.”
That very spoken promise has Eddie lit up, head over heels in bliss. It seems too good to be true, but he knows you mean every word of it, and sitting in wait in this boathouse really isn’t that dull anymore. Come danger, come creature, come magic; Eddie will face it all since you just gave his heart the courage he never knew he could have. He has you and that is far better than anything else on his mental wish list. He’d give them all to you, and he’ll give you all of him too.
1986. Maybe, with you in his arms and your kiss still lingering on his lips, this really will be his year.

Lady Kikyo Takahashi - 14 associations
(1) Animal: The Turkey Vulture. Cultures linked them with death because they eat carrion/would gather in the sky when remains were found signaling something had died. However, they actually perform a great service cleaning up bodies that could spread disease. They are a cleansing breeze sweeping up after death.
(2) Color: Red - In the cultures she identifies with, red is said to keep away evil/vile spirits, it represents strength and protection. It is also auspicious, symbolizing happiness and good fortune.
(3) Song:
I usually have non-lyrics for her purposely, because she can not speak, so I tend to lean on traditional Chinese and Japanese songs that can invoke a feeling. One that I always send others is a playlist called "You're a Heartbroken Empress" - though there are just a few handful that do have lyrics that would be suitable for Kikyo depending on circumstances! Rebirth: Warning - Incubus / 3 Libras - APC Love song: The Garden of Everything - Maaya Sakamoto / Steve Conte - every line is perfect for her: " Every touch, a temptation, and for every sense, a sensation.. " I have a few more but let's move along!
(4) Number: 3 - It represents the three stages: birth, death, and rebirth.
(5) Day or Night: Evening, she blooms under the tapestry of darkness.
(6) Plant: Hinganbana (flower) - The death bloom, known also as the corpse flower, when the season of summer shifts to fall, the flower rises from its dormancy.
(7) Smell: Frangipani ( plumeria ) a soft scent, though is associated with ghosts.
(8) Gemstone: Black Tourmaline, representing spiritual strength, remembrance and protection.
(9) Season: Autumn. When the splendor of life comes to fade, and we are greeted with the warmth of colors amid the cool chill of what is yet to come.
(10) Place: Othard. A land marred by the atrocities of war and loss, but where her fondest of memories yet are planted in its foundation.
(11) Food: Anything related with savory fish, cold noodle dishes, cute shaped foods that are vibrant with color. Traditional meals. 🍣🍘
(12) Astrological Sign: Though she is not Eorzean, I would choose Nald'thal in this case due to her adoptive family dealing with commerce and a different sort of underworld, while she herself deals in death.
(13) Element(s): Ironically, water ( if you know her lore, you'd know why ) for its pliancy, its gentle nature and cleansing qualities. It also represents death and rebirth, surprise!
(14) Drink: Matcha. Due to the elegant art that comes with the tea ceremony which involves in making and serving it. 🍵
tagged by the loveliest, thank you so very much. Decided to do this for Kikyo instead since Rivienne is a bit on the retired end: @alannah-corvaine | @chadhunkler | @allyennah tagging: @hallowed-ffxiv | @evuniel | @page-63 | @sealrock | @tsupertsundere and you! Whomever wants to do it, please feel free to tag me!

What I hope to see with the New Default Skins.
(breaking my silence to hyper-fixate on default skins for blocc game wheeeeeeee!!!)
1. All of them Getting featured in those shorts and animations on YouTube, like Steve and Alex do.
I would love to see them all in the Animation Vs Minecraft series, or how they’d look in Music Videos, those Black Plasma Studios vids, the jokey meme videos, heck even the trashy clickbait videos would probably do a lot better for not re-using the same 2 skins over and over and over again.
2. There is enough of these skins to fill a small SMP world. So perhaps a DefaultSMP series either as Fanfiction, RP or a YouTube Series?
What better way to utilize all the new characters, than to show them all interacting with each other! I really enjoyed watching HermitCraft (haven’t been able to keep up with it the past couple of years but sssshhhhh) And having in mind all the different personalities and how they played off of each other, I think it would be great to have some of this with some Original Minecraft Characters too!
Sure, It might not be as 100% authentic as the real personalities, but them being fictional characters will allow more surreal and chaotic situations.
(Characters could be shipped together without making things really awkward for IRL alter egos + I don’t think any of the skins are ever gonna be outed for horrid/problematic behavior in this lifetime.)
3.Spin-offs and Crossovers to Feature these characters!
On the smaller side, I would like all of these skins to be Equip-able in Dungeons and Legends. (You can Equip Steve/Alex skin in Dungeons, so it would be consistent, and I think it’s safe to assume for Legends too.
If Smash Bros ever adds Minecraft to their game again, I would love to see all of these dorks make it too. (Tennis Alex and Enderman... I will miss you)
Actually, It would be neat if those crossover packs they did with Bedrock have, started to incorporate them as guests, even if just a little bit.
4. Default Characters Featured as Actual Protagonists in Story-Based Content in the Future?!?!
It just hit me, that all of these skins would probably make scripting and writing a lot easier for the official Minecraft Movie. (Though I would also be perfectly fine with Steve and Alex just exploring the world.)
But beyond that, If Minecraft were to ever try something like Minecraft: Story mode again, I personally would love to interact with them or as them, heck they don’t even need to talk, (though I would go wild if they did).
something something begging for Minecraft Story Mode Season 3.

in lieu of a bachelorette party
10pm, sunday, aug 6, 2023
we're officially in the period of the summer that has been planned out since months and months ago, in the lead up to some dear friends' wedding; time is telescoping in a very odd way! after traveling the past two weeks, my re-entry was good but hard; i came back from my trip thinking i'd be all revitalized and looking around me with new eyes, which in a way i did, but then i was also pretty wiped. i didn't really want to spend all week hibernating, but i guess it was good to recharge my batteries since i also had five different party/gathering-type things (three this weekend, including the aforementioned bachelorette).
reading can't forget to mention finishing carmen maria machado's in the dreamhouse, which was gripping and devastating and still beautiful somehow. the experience of reading it was so...i couldn't stop once i got started, you know? short fragmented chapters, some funny, some incredibly sad. every once in a while there would be a detail or an allusion to something i could relate to, punctuating the intense surreality / unreality used to talk about the abuse with a sudden concrete reality that was. striking. loved the device of the footnotes, pointing out where certain things are matching up with folklore tropes? as a form of foreshadowing and ironic, devastating commentary? inspired. that's just one detail, but it's one i can sum up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
abrupt tonal shift and getting back to fantasy / adventure, a.k. larkwood's the unspoken name has been very engaging this week too. part one was...fresh but in a comforting sort of vein, with a young protag escaping a bad fate under the protection of a new mysterious mentor, who then helps her get an education, martial arts training, before he sends her out on a mission--reminded me of half a dozen beloved fantasy novels, with the addition of some fun details! for example, neither is actually described in much detail, but our main character and her mentor are clearly not Human; she has grey skin and tusks (my mind went right to a dnd-style orc?) and he has mobile, elongated ears, which seem to telegraph his emotions much like those in the goblin emperor and was an *immediate* delight to envision. just about a third of the way through this one now; it feels like a locked tomb book with a slightly different magic system, and i'm really enjoying it.
watching plane movies while returning home:
the battle of the sexes (2017) -- entertaining more because i didn't know the history and always enjoy the depiction of historical women's sports and sports teams; emma stone is great but has virtually no chemistry with either of her romantic counterparts, painfully straight energy overall. i was too entertained by watching steve carell and sarah silverman in their respective period hair and makeup . kudos to whoever was the tennis stunt doubles, it was legitimately fun to try and follow the games.
banshees of inisherin (2022) -- people who talk about the overdone stereotyped blarney-filled hollywood depiction of ireland in this one are missing the fact that it's an intentional (ironic?) depiction; see, the imprecision when it comes to year/time passing / calendars and whatnot. sort of waiting for godot-y in its heightened reality / absurdity. my lukewarm take is that it was definitely meant to be a play, and would have worked a lot better that way. not sure i'll watch it again, not sure i *got* it, but it will certainly live in my brain rent-free.
finished strange world (2022) as a palate cleanser-- i wanted to support it, the box office and overall reception to this was pretty disappointing but it's fine! like it's a cute kids' movie! you know, disney's first gay character, thinly veiled climate analogy lesson, absolutely gorgeous animation and colors, what's not to love.
the first three episodes of season 1 of the white lotus . hypnotizing like a train wreck, but i'll wait until i've seen more of it to give a real write-up.

listening you ever watch a viral video and then realize you're captivated by both the cute videos of people dancing and the soundtrack? (and recognizing the background scenery, and it turns out i was right!!) anyway i went and found these two tracks courtesy of just this experience, so thanks to youtuber thoraya i guess?

UPDATE: saw hadestown live today!!! the original broadway recording didn't prepare me for how much i would love it, how dynamic and captivating the live band and incredible ensemble would be-- and of course i was crying almost immediately, and was clutching my chest during 'wait for me' both times. but then again, the performance i saw didn't include this one instrumental track i love and had on my semester playlist all spring, so here:
playing finally got the cut-scene celebrating my community center completion in stardew, hell yeah. had two great dnd sessions; one campaign successfully defeated a monstrously-oversized jaguar and decided which faction we're going to attempt to win over first, while the other group went shopping and spent some downtime at base and gathering info on some individual plots! napoleon did exist in this world and was a gnome, and our organization assassinated him apparently??, also this just feels like a good time to mention that their resume also includes '1841 – Controlled controversy riots when “Dinosaurs” suggested as a creature alongside and separate from “Dragons” ', which sent us into absolute hysterics when the DM shared that.
making it's summer, so i crowdsourced a ratatouille recipe and could not have been happier with the outcome. saving it here for posterity!

working on i was very diligent with RA work this week, since it feels like i always neglect it over the summer for absolutely no reason, especially since it like. pays me. but i also have been using it as productive procrastination since i'm actively dragging my heels in sending the last few students their essay feedback and grade breakdowns from the summer course. it means confronting my judgments and math and possible mistakes from earlier in july, and trying to either defend or amend them as necessary, and i just have been. napping rather than actually do it. which is silly, and also stupid since i have actual work to be doing! just get this over with, and you can be free!

@stillhidden I'm answering here because this is longer than I thought it would be, and I have different theories about the UD and the monsters within that I wanted to expand upon. Tagging @skellybonesandtrees @pusheen1802 @spaghettificationandpretzels and @lavandulaphoenix since they've also contributed to these theories as well in past reviews I've written.
First, I think it's important to note the Duffer Brothers have mentioned that the Alien franchise served as inspiration for both Stranger Things and the design of the Demogorgon:
Tumblr media
We see this with how the Demogorgon is implemented on the show. The Demogorgon's life cycle, for instance, has similar parallels to the Xenomorph, from the impregnation of humans.....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
....to the baby creatures (Chestbursters/Larve-Pollywogs) that come out of the humans......
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.....to how rapidly these creatures grow once they leave their human host.....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.....to their animalistic nature.
Both Stranger Things and Alien even feature eggs. The difference is the Alien franchise established that the eggs were a part of the Xenomorph's life cycle, whereas the Demogorgons in Stranger Things appear to eat the eggs, as we see several times in S1:
Tumblr media
We've never gotten an explanation about what the eggs in the UD are. It doesn't appear they hatch Demogorgons the same way the eggs in Aliens hatch Facehuggers.
It's possible the Duffer Brothers originally intended for the eggs to give birth to Demogorgons before they changed their minds and the eggs instead became a source of nutrition for the Demogorgons. My guess is the eggs are part of the life cycle of a different monster with a different biology, and it's the kind of monster the Demogorgon would eat to sustain itself. It's the Circle of Life and Survival of the Fittest at play in the UD, similar to how other animals on Earth eat each other. They've shown and talked about other creatures in the Upside Down before: The Demobats. Nancy mentioning different monsters and a "giant creature with a gaping mouth." There were even designs for something called Demospiders that didn't make it into season 4, but could possibly appear in season 5:
Tumblr media
In any case, to answer your question @stillhidden, I think the show already has gone with the "Alien origin" in some regard. I doubt the Demogorgons have a Queen similar to the Xenomorphs, but you could argue that Vecna/The Mind Flayer (MF for short) is their Queen. The Xenomorph Queen and The Mind Flayer even have similar (and likely intentional) designs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for other theories regarding the Upside Down:
1.) I think Dustin is correct in that the UD is a world that's been around for thousands (or even millions) of years.
2.) I think the ONLY reason Vecna survived in the UD for 7 years without dying of starvation or thirst is because of his ability to consume the life force of any creature when he kills them. We also see vines attach to his back in S4 whenever he remote-travels. The implication I took from that is he draws power from the Upside Down, which may be helping to preserve his life:
Tumblr media
3.) I could be wrong about this, but I don't believe there's really a "special origins story" for the monsters of the UD. Previously, I went with the theory that the UD was once a thriving world before the MF came in and turned it into its personal hellhole while also transforming the inhabitants into Demogorgons and other monsters. However, given the way S4 went and the reveal about Vecna's relationship with the MF, that theory is moot. The only semblance of that theory I could see playing out in S5 is maybe creatures like the Demobats having some kind of poison in their bites that slowly morphs their bitten victims into similar-like monsters (think Seth Brundle's transformation in The Fly (1986)). If that theory pans out, then Steve's in a lot of trouble next season due to his bite wounds:
Tumblr media
4.) I don't believe Demogorgons/Demodogs are predisposed to hate and hunt humans, and can even befriend them under the right circumstances. D'Artagnan and his relationship with Dustin in S2 is proof of that:
Tumblr media
Vecna infecting the Demogorgons and other monsters with the MF, and hijacking the hive mind, is the primary reason they've been going after humans. The Demogorgon in S1 I am dead sure was being possessed by Vecna.
As for the Soviet Demogorgon, the way the Russians treated it as an attack dog and likely abused it (i.e. kept it isolated, used electricity/cattle prods on it, deliberately starving it before they released it on prisoners, etc) is why it's as vicious as it was. Notice btw that the moment it realizes the electric fence is off in the arena, it immediately climbs out and goes after the guards:
Tumblr media
Dustin treated D'art well, and he rewarded him by sparing his life (and the lives of Dustin's friends) in the tunnel. The Russians mistreated their Demogorgon in the name of weaponizing it, and paid the price for it.
5.) See my review of The Other Side for more details about UD theories, but I still maintain that Will being taken to the Upside Down is why time froze and the Upside Down terraformed into a version of Hawkins from November 6th, 1983. Vecna wants to know what Will did and how he did it, which is why he's interested in Will, why he didn't immediately kill Will in the UD despite having multiple opportunities to do so, and why he may have even tried to possess Will with the MF in S2. It's a given they're going to explore the connection between Will and Vecna in S5.
6.) In my review of Tomb of Ybwen, I discussed that one possible way for predicting how Season 5 will end was to look at The Lord of the Rings as a blueprint since the show LOVES referencing those books, and even makes parallels between them. Vecna's dominion over the Upside Down reminds me of Sauron's dominion over Mordor. Assuming Vecna's taken complete control over the inhabitants of the UD in preparation for his invasion of Hawkins, and that these monsters are connected to him via the MF and the hive mind, his demise will be similar to Sauron's: Once Vecna's dead, so are the monsters under his control, and he might have integrated himself deep enough into the Upside Down that said world could collapse (similar to Mordor collapsing once the Ring was destroyed and Sauron was vanquished).
7.) They haven't clarified entirely on whether the hive mind always existed in the UD between the various monsters and Vecna simply hijacked it when he formed the Mind Flayer, or if the hive mind was Vecna's creation and he bound those monsters to him when he infected them with the Mind Flayer.
8.) There's also the whole relationship between Vecna and the Mind Flayer. We know Vecna manipulated the cloud of black particles he found to form the Mind Flayer, but what exactly the MF is still unexplained. My brother (who finally watched the show) believes that the Mind Flayer is its own organism that only became a threat once Vecna gave shape to it, and (as part of its agenda) it's currently pretending to let Vecna think he's in control of it when it's actually the Mind Flayer itself that's calling the shots and using Vecna as a pawn.
IDK how I feel about that theory, but it's an interesting direction the writers could choose to pursue.
Sorry for the length lol! I had a lot I wanted to discuss because I love speculating about the nature of the Upside Down. Let me know what your theories are! :)

Chrissy Cunningham Cinematic Universe
Tumblr media
"I love chrissy cunningham. I want her back in st. in fact, I want her own tv show. animated and live action. both with 5 seasons & 3 spin offs. and then a whole movie. actually I want a chrissy cunningham cinematic universe. and a whole book series just about her. and videogames." - @/goddes_rabbit on Twitter
Okay I saw this tweet and I have both ADHD and nowhere to be until 11 am so I give you this! *sparkles and fairy dust*
Chrissy in ST: She doesn't die because she is simply too babygirl for that. She is Vecna's first horseman of the apocalypse but when the party defeats him at the end of Season 4, she’s returned to normal. She goes about her life as a cheerleader but moves in with Eddie and Wayne and becomes a core part of the group. Her, Eddie, Nancy, Robin, and Steve become besties.
Chrissy's own TV Show: This would essentially be Stranger Things but from her perspective. There's also one season that's entirely flashbacks to Vecna from her perspective and being in the UD with her Vecna peeps. The main plot points would be:
-Fallout from being Vecna'd (bullying, PTSD, revoking her "it girl" status)
-Found family with Eddie and Wayne (and the rest of the party)
-Her parents trying to get her back after she moves in with Eddie and Wayne
-Her helping the party with any lingering supernatural happenings in Hawkins.
-Chrissy healing from all the shit she's gone through and finding light and happiness.
(There's also a subplot about Chrissy being really good at science and kind of a nerd about it too and when they inevitably bring Mr. Clark back, the two of them become odd besties. He remembers her as one of his best students. He ends up becoming someone she can go to for help and advice outside of her circle of friends.)
Chrissy's Animated TV Show: I immediately went to a Winx Club/Sabrina the Teenage Witch style show about her middle school years! It would be animated and geared toward younger kids so the subject matter is super light. Fashion, cheerleading for the sake of cheerleading, sleepovers, magazines, lip gloss, and her chance encounter with Eddie at the talent show.
Spin-off #1: The Adventures of Baby Chrissy. Chrissy as a baby (a la Baby Looney Tunes and Rugrats) and all the shenanigans she gets into. Featuring cameos by baby Eddie, baby Steve, baby Nancy, and baby Robin). cutecutecute.
Spin-off #2: Chrissy's Big Scare. (Post-Vecna). This would be a mini-series, kind of like the ones that come on during commercial breaks. In it, Chrissy tries to watch a different scary movie every week as a sort of aversion therapy to help her cope with being Vecna'd. She does it when Eddie and Wayne are gone because she wants to be able to be brave without them there to comfort her. It would just be her reactions to everything: laughing at cheesy dialogue, spilling popcorn when she gets jump scared, hiding under the blanket, getting invested into the plot, (and yes, calling Eddie if it gets too scary).
Spin-off #3: Chrissy's Haunted Cheer Camp. (Pre-Vecna). Chrissy and her friends go to a yearly cheer camp but (surprise, surprise) it's haunted. Every summer is one season and every summer, something crazy scary happens. Personal items keep disappearing, things that go bump in the night, one of the girls gets possessed. The last season features the craziest story (and it occurs the summer before Will gets taken).
One of their counselors even goes missing for the majority of the summer but she's not as conventionally "pretty" as the rest of them so no one cares except Chrissy. She Nancy Drew's her way into some answers and they end up finding the girl at the end of the summer. And here's the chilling part: she walks out of the lake with no memory of what happened.
Movie: Chrissy Around the World. The summer before senior year, Chrissy was supposed to go to church camp but she was feeling extra rebellious and used her dad's credit card to go on a worldwide vacation. Paris, African Safari, everywhere. (Think Megan in the "Drake and Josh" movie or Kevin in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York"). She ends her vacation in New York and falls in love with it and decides that's where she wants to move when she moves out of Hawkins the following year. It features a very satisfying 2000s-esque shopping spree, hotel trashing, and a cameo by taylor swift (ask me if i give a fuck about continuity).
Chrissy Cinematic Universe:
Movie about Chrissy’s life pre-vecna
Movie about Chrissy’s time in the UD
Movie about Chrissy in the 90s living in New York with Eddie
Lore about her brother and his life
Movies about her and Eddie's kids and then, their lives as adults
Movies about her GRANDKIDS and their lives
(Chrissy is the Padme Amidala of the Munson family.)
Fuck it, Chrissy across the multiverse. IDC. She's a superhero in one of them. Chrissy defeats Thanos. Chrissy is a time traveler. Chrissy is the 15th Doctor. Chrissy made Bigfoot up. Chrissy is Jack the Ripper. Chrissy is DB Cooper.
Book Series: Sweet Baby Chrissy. Basically the art style of tinker bell pixie hollow books and it’s geared toward kids so it’s mundane things about her. Chrissy’s Bad Hair Day. Chrissy’s Sleepover. Chrissy's Broken Leg. Chrissy Bakes a Pie. Chrissy and Steve having a babysitting job together. Chrissy going to see christmas lights with the gang.
Video Games:
Cheer For Your Life - complete the cheer routine or else Vecna gets you.
Chrissy’s Closet - Get Chrissy dressed for different events before the timer runs out (pep rally, date with Eddie, etc)
Chrissy Cunningham Upside Down - a scary quarry type game where Chrissy navigates getting out of the upside down. She has to hunt down objects that will help her ("Uptown Girl" cassette, her pom-poms, picture of her brother, etc.) and you don’t know who’s friend or foe so you have to fight some of your friends if they've been Vecna'd.
Chrissy Wake Up - (guitar hero basically) hit all the notes of "Master of Puppets" to wake Chrissy Up.
Surfer Girl Pizza - Chrissy helps Argyle with a huge order of pizzas (pizza making game)
The Hideout - (scavenger hunt/quest game) help Corroded Coffin get ready for their show at the hideout by locating eddie’s guitar, fixing gareth’s drumsticks and helping the boys find their lucky pins etc.
Bad Girl - help Chrissy sneak out to meet Eddie without waking up her parents or brother.

I’m not entirely sure how to articulate this thought, so bear with my internet. I would like to discuss two scenes in Stranger Things.
The first is S2 E1 starting 30:50, it’s a Wheeler dinner scene and Mike is told that he needs to put together two boxes worth of things to sell at the yard sale.
When he protests it goes like this:
Mike: “I’m fine with you giving away a couple, but the other ones just have way too much emotional value”
Karen: “Emotional value?”
Ted: “They’re hunks of plastic Michael.”
As the scene goes on, we find out that they’ve already taken away his Atari, and that the reason the Wheeler parents are doing all of this is because Mike has been acting out. This scene is particularly interesting because it falls between Lucas and Dusting finding out who Max is (plot relevant) and Nancy and Steve having dinner with Barb’s parents (plot relevant), but it doesn’t appear to have any plot relevance itself. Mike’s behavior isn’t mentioned again, and the only purpose this scene seems to serve is to show that Mike is struggling without El. Or to show that the Wheeler parents don’t understand him and do not try to.
The second scene, and the one that stands in sharp contrast in my mind, is in season 4. In S4 E9 1:52:19, right before the California crew shows up at the Wheeler house, Karen brings out a box of Nancy’s old things that she found in the attic. They are packing boxes to bring to the shelter at the school. Nancy finds her childhood stuffed animal Mr. Rabbit in one of these boxes, and Karen says “It’s okay if you want to save him, you know?” She acknowledges that this toy has emotional value to Nancy, while she scoffed at the concept that Mike’s possessions might be important to him.
Obviously the context of these two scenes is very different. Mike is being punished, while Nancy is donating voluntarily. In season 4, Hawkins has just experienced a massive earthquake and I’m sure Karen is very worried. She even expresses more worry towards Mike than we have ever seen when he arrives. But there is no reason why she should not have been this sympathetic in season 2. By that point Mike had already been through some shit, and even if she did not know the full extent, she knew that Will was presumed dead and was visited by the government officials who said that he was in great danger. But in season 2, she brushes it off as “We know you’ve had a hard year, Michael, but we’ve been patient.” She acknowledges his struggles and immediately dismissed them.
And I know that comparing scenes like this gets a little iffy, and that the Duffer brothers haven’t watched season 2 in a while — hence Will’s birthday. But the one thing that stays consistent is character writing (Mike’s character is consistently written, and I will probably have to word vomit a post about it at some point). So while I doubt that these two scenes are supposed to stand in contrast, the family dynamics that they highlight do stand out, and I feel that comparing them in this way is fair game.
Which gets me to the point of my argument. So often while discussing the Wheeler parents, we focus on the differences between Ted and Karen. But they both kind of suck. More significant, I would argue, is the difference in how the parents treat Mike and Nancy. Karen especially connects with Nancy more often than she does Mike. Any heart to heart conversations that we see her have are with Nancy. Her character building is done through connecting with Nancy, most especially the scenes after Nancy is fired from the newspaper. With Mike, the only support he seems to get from his mom comes in the form of 3 hugs: after they find “Will’s” body, after the Byers’s move, and after he comes back from California. If you read the novelization Lucas on the Line, Karen tries to help Mike in his (apparent and obvious) depression by inviting Lucas and Dustin over. She plans this whole themed sleepover, but then calls her son foul to Lucas, in front of Mike. She disregards anything that is important to Mike, yet still expects him to come to her with important things. However with Nancy, she makes more of an effort. She reaches out to Nancy first, after Nancy was fired from the newspaper. Karen has to knock on Nancy’s closed door in order to have this conversation. This is a decent amount of effort put in. Karen makes the first move, whereas with Mike, she relies on him to reach out, even going so far as to stop Ted from talking to him after “Will’s body is found because “He’ll come to us when he’s ready.”
And please note: I have nothing against Nancy. I love Nancy as a character. I just think that the way the Wheeler parents, especially Karen, treat Nancy and Mike is very different and worth noting.

Thinking about a Steddie 'Beauty and the Beast' AU
In this Steve is the beast/prince, and Eddie is Belle. Still 80's era in my head.
Instead of 'Belle' being admired for her beauty but other-ed for her interest in reading and fantasy, Eddie is other-ed both for choosing to present himself as a metal head and for being unwaveringly vocal about his interests and beliefs.
Gaston is Jason Carver, but it's prejudice that motivates Jason's harassment.
With Steve, the curse has transformed his appearance to something monstrous. I picturing more Beelzebub from Good Omens and less werewolf, mostly because the Upside Down's 'aesthetic' is mostly centered around decay and grime. So Steve, constantly covered in grime no matter how much he showers, covered in puffy red sores. Maybe black veins and eyes like Geralt from The Witcher?
The curse forces him to stay within one location. In my version of this AU, it's his house but it could also be the Upside Down in different AU. From the outside the house looks perfectly normal but on the inside it looks run down like the Creel house.
The curse also made the entire town forget he even exists.
I haven't decided if everyone aware of the upside down has been cursed to forget Steve too, or altered their memories to believe he's dead, or if they're also stuck inside Steve's house with their bodies transformed.
I don't like the idea of them being transformed into household objects to serve Steve. Instead I imagine them transformed into animals-- think dogs, cats, rats, rabbits, etc. depending on their personalities. Or, transformed into toys/dolls (I'm reading Porcelain Steve by alittleoff on AO3, it's good) that can move.
It's really up to how angsty or comedic you want to make the story. The tragedy of Steve feeling abandoned, maybe not knowing that the party has been cursed to forget him or believe he's dead? Or the found family vibes of Steve always being the babysitter who happily takes care of his found family no matter what?
In Beauty and the Beast, the prince is cursed because he's selfish and cruel. But it's not as though the Upside Down has ever needed a reason to make anyone's life hell. However, if you want some character arc like that, you could go with pre-season 1 Steve.
Or, Steve's character arc is about learning to trust someone and open up to them, and believe that he's genuinely loved.
How does Eddie get stuck in Steve's house? I personally like the idea of Eddie running from Jason and friends and slipping into Steve's backyard to hide, and then breaking into the house because Jason is getting too close.
(come on, no one in this fandom believes Wayne would ever leave Eddie behind. He'd sooner die trying to save Eddie and his freedom)
The original Beauty in the Beast fairy-tales are about Belle's purity and moral strength, how she's offered the opportunity to leave with the promise of returning and chooses to come back anyway.
And the Disney version is about both characters opening their hearts to accept the other-- though in Belle's case it's about accepting Beast's flaws and appearance while being charmed by his personal growth, and Beast learning to be kinder and less selfish, to the point where he lets Belle go with no demand for her to return because he values her happiness over his own.
My version is also about acceptance, but specifically how Steddie canonically have these preconceived notions about who the other. They have to learn to look past stereotypes and personas and recognize that someone's inner world is more complex than you'll ever know. It's about allowing yourself to be your most honest self with someone else.

the way “I know the end” - phoebe bridgers progresses and matches up with each season & the entire plot / story of stranger things is something that can be so personal.
season 1 - verse 1
Tumblr media
the idea of “home.” joyce (and everyone) is trying to bring will back home, and will his desperately trying to survive for his “home” to find him. el escapes a place that was set up as her “home” but it wasn’t. she finds mike and the party and starts to understand that a home can be the people not the place. it also emphasizes this quiet insanity that small towns, like hawkins, hold, and how it’s supposed to be this ideal way of life (something something nancy wheeler’s speech of not wanting to end up like her parents, will being “different,” the party using fantasy games as a way to escape the mundane.)
chorus 1 - season 2
Tumblr media
“you had to go” el had to go, just for a little while but of course mike nor anyone but hopper knew of such things. and the slip of will through all of their fingers as he “goes” into the upside down via his true sight. and going meaning changing. relationships changed, they burned out because things had shifted so drastically (the steve, nancy, jonathan mess of 1984). the wave of something bigger hitting the shore (hawkins) opening up an ocean of things to come.
verse 2 - season 3
Tumblr media
mike and will becoming friends on the playground in kindergarten. need I say more? “he’s quiet today.” “he’s always quiet.” the growing pains in the summer between middle school and the end of the world. lashing out and pulling away, but the inevitable falling back together because it’s not only just what you know but what you love. it’s byler, okay?
chours 2 - season 4
Tumblr media
who had to go? mike to california to keep playing a game with himself between his girlfriend and his best friend and the mess of feels that come with them (open closet, one way sign). el to become a superhero again (conditional love). max to somewhere that she wouldn’t be a burden to her friends / family anymore (I’d get him to swap our places). and do you know who knows all of this? vecna.
the pieces start to fall together (apart) and hawkins descends from a place of tragedy cursed by the devil himself. holes are ripped and mobs formed as their hometown starts to “go down” and the hawkins team dives headfirst into hell in hopes of stopping something inevitable. the upside down is festering (do you remember what that word means, eleven?)
bridge !! season 5 ( and 4 vol. 2)
Tumblr media
thinking of the california gang post el recuse flying down highways to reach hawkins. the radio is up, per will’s request because he knows something the rest of them don’t (should I stay or should I go, will singing this and surviving in the upside down for a week, coincidence? nah). they reach the midwestern country side and it looks exactly how this bridge feels. idk how to explain it. the strip malls, the muddled spring browns and greens, the farmland and animals roaming behind fences. the fear of god lingering in the air when you pass the million and one billboards of bible versus on poster board.
Tumblr media
back in hawkins the end reaches the surface, people start to take notice. the government invades the town and there is no more containing the leak of the upside down into hawkins. it’s on display, it’s coming. they can’t stop it.
Tumblr media
el’s search for a new home - new people outside the lab. she finds herself trapped in a loop of starting new and being dragged back to the past.
the wheelers house slow-motion crumble, destroyed, falling into the pits of the upside down. illuminated in red, the place it began and the place it ends.
Tumblr media
“if people can disappear…can an entire town?” the answer? yes.
the wiping of hawkins, indiana from the map. it’s gone. nothing but the welcome to hawkins sign remains, spray painted with the word ‘hell’ over top. it’s like it never existed at all. maybe it comes back, maybe it doesn’t. a folktale of a town that once sat there, cursed.
the vanishing of will byers -> the vanishing of hawkins

AvM’s Multiverse
The AvM Nether is a gateway realm to the Multiverse. Season 1 kept things pretty close to how Minecraft actually is with minor/tiny hints of things not being 100% vanilla here and there. However, “The Nether” was where things began to get crazy. By the way this is gonna be a long post cuz I’m bad at condensing my analysis.
For example, Blue, Green and Purple’s adventure in “The End”. That should’ve been the first sign that this was a multiverse with varying levels of reality. Firstly, the working end city ship, then the dragon going through the end portal, and lastly the dragon egg hatching. These were signs of a fact that worlds connected to desktop Nether portals have different worldly functions than others. The Skyblock world with the sentient mob civilizations (Spider Colony, Sea Kingdom, Drowned Pirate Crew) was another case where certain things just didn’t line up with what we see in Vanilla Minecraft. Also the killer bunny.
Then after the Season 1 experience with the the Nether, this allowed season 2 to become more wild and crazy with what happens because the multiverse showed that things can get wilder. And so they brought that wildness to the desktop. The Redstone contraptions completely violating any laws existing with Minecraft Redstone. Green making a working robot. The drugged chicken music battle with functioning guitars. And the big kicker, the lucky blocks, that being a mod of it’s own.
And let’s not forget the absolute amazing cases of reality breaking that is Season 3. Firstly, a more subtle reality break is the all out war that occurs with the Piglins, I won’t comment on mass mob sentience as season 1 already showcased those existing. However the war wouldn’t occur within Minecraft as Piglins flee from Zombie Piglins, and Zombie Piglins are neutral towards Piglins. However the war happens nonetheless.
Then of course there’s the ending of the episode with the witch. And oh boy does that witch break reality so much. I’ll just summarize the witches reality breaking as, transfiguring living objects into inanimate objects while they still retain their ability to live and move, just with whatever limitations exist within the new form, alongside animating inanimate objects.
Moving onto the infinite parkour trap, which I think is very possible due to the command blocks used. But we can’t ignore the elephant in the room that is the beacons and their ability to teleport things. This is a popularized idea for another use for beacons and has been used as such in other medias, however it’s not Vanilla, far from it actually. And then the multiple beacons being used to transport themselves between levels of the trap and even into the actual game of Minecraft itself.
And this is where a distinction has to be made. Alexcrafter28′s Minecraft is just straight Vanilla Minecraft. No mods, no reality breaking, no nothing. Their world is the basis of what Minecraft is. Not to mention the fact that this is the one and only time we see a player character (not counting Herobrine or the Steves he spawns willy-nilly.)
Moving on from that, we have the Titan Ravagers world, which has Kaijus, villager civilizations that can develop jobs beyond the Vanilla ones and Pillagers that function on a more violent militia/gang mentality (as opposed to show up and genocide the villagers.) That world in all reality is a lot more basic when you think about it on a larger scale with the rest of the Multiverse.
Then we’ve got the biggest smack in the face to Minecraft logic. King Orange and his Command Block staff. The capabilities of this single weapon is phenomenal. The ability to use any Minecraft command and even fake commands (like the force hold, bounded, and electrified commands) at a users whim is fascinating and very much outside of the realm of possibility within Minecraft.
And another titanic moment that turns it’s back on vanilla, the Icon blocks themselves. They give whoever holds them creative mode and can summon damn near anything within the multiverse. Combine that with the staff (a custom creation that breaks logic once more) and you’ve got an absolutely unstoppable weapon. Not to mention the fact that it can create a black hole. But why stop at one? Go to another desktop, create a portal and boom, now you’ve got yourself two Icon blocks in the space connecting the multiverse, what a great idea. Let’s hope they don’t fall into the hands of a vengeful vilomah wearing a crown. Oh wait, that happened. And now you’ve got the fused Icon blocks. Combine that behemoth of a thing with the staff and you’ve got the most powerful creation in all of the multiverse. So strong that it was the cause of the multiverses destruction (but only temporarily.) This thing can do everything. And if you’re a creation of Minecraft itself? Get absorbed chump! Wanna stop the creation of the new and more powerful black hole? Get blasted and your very body destabilized nerd! There was literally no stopping this weapon once it got activated.
Now let’s go back to the Minecraft worlds that defy vanilla and look at the literal best version of the classical series, the Monster School world. A world not only with mob sentience, but the very internet cryptid that haunted most Minecraft players’ dreams, Herobrine, is their teacher. What does he teach? Many things. A truly powerful being hidden behind a mere Nether portal. His ability to summon Steves controlled by him and his moment patterns make you question what even are the bounds and limits to his powers. The world itself is fairly basic, however it containing the minor deity that is Herobrine is what catapults it far from Vanilla.
Next up is the Warden, and this is the one that first allowed me to realize that the Nether was a multiversal space. Once again, this is a fairly basic world, however, the backstory and lore of the Warden in this world, compared to what we’re given in terms of Vanilla, is what draws this away from your normal Minecraft world. In Vanilla it’s implied that the Warden is from a different dimension and that it’s a part of the skulk as a defense mechanism. The ancient city was an underground base that got attacked and overrun by the skulk/Warden. However in this world, the flashback we see tells us that the Warden acted as a golem of sorts, being a gentle giant that befriended and defended the villagers of the underground civilization. What happened to this civilization? We don’t know, but the playing of a flute helps calm it down in it’s (literal) blind rage against Second Coming.
Lastly, we’ve got the Note Block Universe. First, the name supports my claim. Second, mobs flying, singing, and communicating through song. All of this is the stuff I’m talking about. Not to mention the usage of the Note Block that Green held and how the lever stretched out the notes. All further evidence towards the multiverse housing worlds with varying levels of Vanilla breaking content.
To close this post out, I’d like to give my own personal prediction for the final boss of Season 5 (since Season 4 looks like it’ll progress how Season 2 did, acting as the calm before the storm.) Since we got a hint of mods’ existence in Season 2 with the lucky blocks (both regular and Emerald,) I believe that the final boss will be the Wither Storm from Minecraft: Story Mode. Here’s why I believe this to be the course of the future. It would completely shift the setting for the final battle as 9 times out of 10, they’ll make the fight occur within the Overworld of another world. The existence of mods and the recent popularity of the Wither Storm mod would shoot up an interest in this specific creature. Plus, we’ve only seen the Wither twice, but have never seen the group face off against it together, let alone fight it. Plus this would further cement the idea of the Nether being a Multiverse because then modded content would simply be in another universe separated by a Nether portal.
That’s it folks. If anyone read this all the way to the end, thank you for suffering through my ramblings. This post took me a couple hours to write due to ADHD and trying to have Youtube going in the background but getting too invested in what was playing. (Probably should’ve turned on some lo-fi in hindsight.)
