scratch scratch ace woke up to the sound of a pen scratching onto paper. with a groan, he slowly sat up from the bed and rubbed at his eyes. his vision looked like a blur of colors but he only focused on you. the color of his "rare" shirts on your body made you seem like a blob of red because of how big it was and ace couldn't hold back the soft smile growing. he shuffled across the bed quietly but you whirled around, eyes widened. he froze like a deer in headlights, hands pressing onto the bed and his butt raised to scoot over. you chuckled. he flopped onto the bed and laughed aloud. "mornin' love," ace crawled towards you before resting his head on your lap. he burrowed himself in your scent and he felt the drowsiness come back again. he yawned. "welp- good night." you let out another small laugh before letting a small hand rest on his chest; a small finger traced the grooves of his abs and he jerked from the ticklish sensation. he quickly put your hand on his hair and moved it around to indicate that yes: portgas d ace, feared second division commander of the whitebeard pirates, wanted head pats and head rubs from his lover. he felt your fingers run through his messy hair and ace groaned from the soothing feeling. he pressed his head further into your lap, blinking slowly one last time before sighing in bliss. 'yes,' ace thought to himself before falling asleep with a drowsy smile. 'this is undoubtly heaven.' you continued to run a hand through his hair, using your other hand to finish ace's stack of paperworks.

"say ahhh," ace playfully crooned, holding up a spoon with...something on it. you eyed him warily. both of you were wandering the streets of one of the islands under whitebeard's protection, having taken the opportunity for a long, overdue date. it was hard for ace to keep his hands off you (he loved PDA and loved seeing his brothers grimace at him) so the moment the moby dick docked, he threw some clothes at you and him before dragging you to the festival. and here you were, hand in hand and wandering the busy marketplace. although... you hummed, eyes trailing up and down ace's body. the clothes he threw were borrowed from marco, given that ace rarely had any shirts of his own (you appreciated the view of his glistening abs and his broad shoulders-) and the colors complimented him well. as if reading your thoughts, ace leaned in closer, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "you know, you can take this off me later," he murmured and you laughed at his thoughts. "how did you know i was thinking of that?" he raised an eyebrow before lifting up the bottom of his shirt to reveal his abs and his v-line. you spluttered, quickly snatching his hand and making him drop the shirt. that sight was for you, and you only. "seriously? tell me your eyes weren't trying to rip this shirt off." "pft-" you chuckled into a fist before finally taking a bite of his snack. it was a wafer ice cream sandwich and you smiled in delight. it was delicious! ace smiled before gesturing to the corner of his lips. when you failed to get the crumbs of wafer off you, he leaned in, pressing his lips against yours. the ice cream was quickly forgotten as you threw your arms around his neck, pulling him closer and pressing your bodies together.

Luffy clicks with Zoro because Zoro’s just built like that, he’s built walls and his dreams to become the worlds greatest swordsman and nothings gonna stop him, So when Luffy decks him, hauls ass flings him about, its how Luffy shows affection, rocketing at top speed towards Zoro whilst yelling his name because he knows Zoro can take it, the same doesnt really go down well with Nami or Usopp, theyre not built the same way— bruises and bumps and scratches, Nami whacks him over the head all the time for stupid stuff she says and Luffy finds thats familiar, to which Usopp is like my guy my dude thats actually pretty effed up holy hell

Usopp and Sanji being the first of the crew to show Luffy that affection doesnt have to be violent (like usopp sharing a cool beetle he found, Sanji ruffling his hair because hes mad hes gotta wait until dinner for more food)

Ace fights a lot because it’s all he knows how to do right, hes good at it, he wins alot mostly but loses just as many times because he overestimates himself, maybe after fighting Whitebeard 100 times he doesnt let up and Whitebeard catches on immediately after Ace has taken his ink like son, just because i can kick your ass doesnt mean you have to go looking for it. Ace confused is like huh? But isnt this like a bonding activity and WB concerned asks Ace what his childhood was like and Ace shrugs uh. Absent everyone? Like everyone, kinda acted out a ton for attention and stuff, the WBP appalled at Ace’s viewpoint on violence versus affection look to multiple ways in which they can smother their newest brother with actual kind affection, naturally it starts with Marco approaching him with food and no other motive than to be kind — Ace used to fighting tooth and nail to eat looks so suspicious its almost heartbreaking

Sabo who’s never known a kind word from his blood parents and only begruding respect and tolerance from Dadan — hes perceptive, the fact this bandit lady with the crazy intense face is allowing him to freeload with Ace n Luffy tells him a ton about her, she’s coarse and rude and everything Sabo’s parents hate so naturally Sabo loves her, (its a shame we never got more Dadan and Sabo :(((((() gravitates towards Ace because he’s everythinf his parents hate too, wild uncouth loudmouthed and violent and they get along, they beat each other up bc its how they tell each other theyre strong ive got your back

And then he loses his memories and maybe thats a good thing because Sabo learns kindness with the revolutionaries, he feels seen and heard and respected (Big Applause to Dragon and Iva for listening to kid Sabo beg and plead not to go back to his old life and went okay hes ours now chadmindset love to see it) he learns that violence and affection are a double sided coin, that he can use his skills to fight and protect those that cant do it for themselves

ASL are a rowdy set of rabble rousin kiddos but its really nice to see how they develop as they got older bc of the people they encountered who help them understand theyre not alone as they think they are

As ace saw you just lay there and not move as the person wallked closer to your body he turned raged he burned the rest of the peaple he was fighting to nothing but ashes and ran over to where you and the person was now standing over you

as i looked at the person standing over me i just realized i might finally be in trouble

As ace now was behind the person already tuning his hand into fire and ready to burn the person

marco swooped down and grabbed my body as he saw what happened from where he was

as the person got distracted by marco picking up your body ace made his fire turning flaming hot and shot fire at the person burning him and hearing him scream as he burned down to nothing but ashes

skip to marco setting you down on the ship and healing the minor injuries on you while you were barly holding on to Consciousness and the nurses running around you while trying to tell you to stay awake

which of course you didn't because you lost so much blood at this point how could you and you were tired

marco and the nurses were cussing to them selfs as you had a hole in your side which had bones sticking out with some of your insides poking out with blood gushing out of it

AND you had no arm which makes that worse because even more bloodloss which were scaring marco and everyone else that you weren't going to make it because it didn't look good untill one nerse came out and everyone was so happy to see her

skip to ace being surrounded by dead bodies of the peaple that they were fighting as everyone was finishing up at ace walked to the ship

everyone was happy to see the nurse who came out rushing to your side as she saw the hole in your side and your missing arm as she sighed and begun healing the hole as that is the part thats the worst one

as it healed up fully the nurses carried her to the kitchen to get her somthing because she used alot of energy on you

as the other peaple begun taking care of your missing arm and getting you to a room to properly heal

as everyone finally got back on the ship ace asked where you were as the nurses triedto calmhim down as they lead him to your room

as i opened my eyes everything stung as i looked at the sealing when i heard the door open ilooked over at a sobbing ace as he ran over to where i was and just held me as he balled his eyes out telling me im okay over and over

"ace are you alright your balling your eyes out alot there?" i said chuckling alittleas he was stunned before balling again saying how sorry he was that he didn't protect you as you tried soothing him

he stayed with you the rest of the day after that but he needed to do his dutys so he reluctantly left as other crew members visited you while you healed

a few weeks later they finally let you out and you were so happy finally

as you finally healed fully the whitebeard pirates watched you more after that

so... Ive been rewatching Mythos and Magic after HeyHay's world lore stream and now have headcanons :D

-The first time Marcos heard Arlos talk- he assumed that someone was fucking with him at first, but then respectively freaked out at Arlos talking.

-After the group hug, Alastor tried going up to Mark but ended up getting vaguely threatened by Mal and Rai.

-Marks love language is physical touch- Whenever he sees one of his friends upset or having a rough day, He'll go up to them and ask if they want a hug or if they wanna talk about it. Arlos feels bad that they can't hug back, but still appreciate the hugs.

- Perry, Mark and Arlos can't cook for shit, it's always up to either Mal or Rai to cook

- Once when Rai was molting, Mark found one of his feathers and decided to keep it in his bag.

- Speaking of molting- Mal and Arlos tend to help Rai with their wings while Perry distracts Mark, Most times they either go to the nearest town to buy food, or take a walk and just ramble to each other while the others help Rai.

- The party dog piles anytime they're camping or far away from civilization- Mark always falls asleep first and ends up using Arlos as a pillow (No they don't mind)

- Rai is actually really good at drawing, and whenever they need to do something with their hands- he'll end up drawing whatever pops into their mind. (Would they show the rest of the party? If theyre proud of their work- then yes! But everything else is either discarded or put in their bag and forgotten about)

- Mark braids flowers into the party's hair. (don't question the fact that Perry and Mal don't technically have hair- it's fineeee)

- Mark is surprisingly good with animals. Most animals will just look at him and go "hm, thats so friend shaped" and walk up to him. It happened so much that the party is slightly less convinced that he's human.

- Mark 2 and their mother watched the chariot race- and cheered on the party from far away.

- Everyone in the party has slight nightmares of their time with Elias.

...I am now realizing after writing this that about 85% of this post is just abt Mark.

It´s been a long, long time

Chapter 7

Nothing could deter me from the choice I had made, not even Steves pleading. At least thats what I told myself looking at the mirror. I would give this guy my father wanted me to meet so bad, a chance. So I got dressed, went downstairs and spent the next two hours talking to a guy called Marco, who was probably the most boring guy I had ever talked to. Whenever there was a lull in the conversation my father would urge him on to tell me more about himself. I would nod and smile and throw a "oh really" in here and there. The evening ended with me agreeing to a date, tomorrow night and why would I agree you might ask. The answer was simple really, I needed someone to take my mind off certain boys and he was there so, why not take the opportunity. I sure as hell was not going to put myself out there, to find anybody else.

My parents were delightet, their stubborn daughter finally had her first date, with a solid guy no less. Of course they did not see my eyes rolling back into my skull whenever he would talk. I was in my room getting ready when someone knocked on my door. It was my mother holding something in her hand. "Hey dear I have something for you. Its my pearl necklace that you always liked. I think you should wear it." I looked at the delicate piece of jewelery, it was the only thing my mother could not bring herself to sell, so we could pay our voyage to America. I always wanted to wear it but it felt wrong to do it now, for a guy I could not care less about. Still I took it and decided to put it on.

Exactly at 7 pm the doorbell rang, announcing the beginning of a soulcrushing date. I went downstairs where my father already had answered the door. When he saw me he just said his obligatory "Have fun you two but not too much fun!" and laughed to himself. To my annoyance Marco laughed too altough it was the "Im dating your daughter so I have to laugh" kind of laugh. He took my hand and we walked to the ice cream parlor that was located next to prospect park. It was full of other teens enjoying their weekends. "We Just Couldn't Say Goodbye" by Victor Young was playing and I just thought to myself, that I wished I could just say goodbye. But alas we sat down waiting for the waitress. Marco was already telling me about all the things he had planned for the future. He wanted to work at the same shoe factory our fathers worked at, get married in 4 years and have two children.

I was not sure if I was supposed to be the wife in his scenario but I just smiled and nodded. The waitress finally came and took our order of a vanilla milkshake for me and an ice cream sundae for him. I looked around and saw all the smiling girls and asked myself how genuine they were. Did they get asked questions about themselves? The bell over the door rang and another couple entered the parlor and in that moment I wished I could disappear in a hole. It was a gorgeous blond girl, wearing a bubble gum pink dress and a white headband. She was holding hands with one of the reasons I was on this goddamn date. Marco saw me flinching and looked in the direction I was looking at.

To my detriment Marco seemed to know Bucky because the next thing he did, made me want to die on the spot. "Hey Barnes, over here!", he called. Bucky turned around saw us sitting there and for some godforsaken reason started grinning. Him and his date walked over to us holding hands and that irked me to no end. Bucky shook hands with Marco and they started talking and even his eyes started to roll back into his skull, so it was not just me. After a couple of minutes of chit chatting they told us they were only picking up an order and would eat their ice cream over in prospect park and somehow that hurt more than it should have. Just when they were about to leave the parlor, I dared to look into his eyes and for a glimpse the facade of nonchalant Bucky seemed to slip. He looked defeated.

After a gruesome hour we made our way back to my appartment. He asked if I wanted to take a walk in the park but I said I was too tired and wanted to go home. We awkwardly stood at my front door and he was fidgeting with something in his pocket. "Anyway thank you for bringing me home, I should go inside Im..", he did not let me finish. Instead he leaned forward all of a sudden and tried to kiss me on the lips. I turned around just in time so he kissed my cheek instead, as if things were not awkward enough. He mumbled a quick "Good night" and went home. What and end to a horrible evening. Suddenly I heard a giggle and rustling in the bushes next to my front door. I walked over to check but could not see anything and wanted to turn around but a hand shot out and pulled me. I screamed and the person pulling me held his hand over my mouth to shut me up. "Pshh its just me....ouch god dammnit", I bit his hand and turned around. It was Bucky.

"What the hell, you scared me to death are you insane?", I yelled and shoved him. He just started laughing and apologized. "Im sorry I just had to watch you two love birds and I have never felt more sorry for a guy in my life". "Thats not funny ok, I was just not ready...", I stated. He stopped laughing and asked "Have you ever kissed someone?". I did not expect that question and was embarrassed so I just shook my head, I just knew that I did not want my first kiss to be that guy. I looked up into Buckys eyes and said "It should not be him, its a moment I would never forget and I want to remember that person". He stared back at me, not knowing what to say so he just tucked a stray hair behind my ear and that felt incredibly intimate to me. "I want to be that person, it might be selfish of me but.....I want you to remember me, no matter what happens", he said looking at my lips. I was speechless, I felt like I was having a stroke and I think I forgot how to breathe. When I did not react he slowly bent forward and said "Let me be selfish just this once". The only words I could muster up were "Then be selfish" and just like that Bucky Barnes kissed me.

I see that you are also a fellow fan of Ace x Deuce! They are so cute together and deserve nothing but the best to happen for them. A cute headcanon I have about them is Ace learning how to cook Deuce's favorite foods/meals to show his love for the masked man.

We've seen the novel, he called Deuce his treasure and we also saw that none of the spades are very good cooks. Ace would know he's not very good in the culinary arts but he has Thatch to teach him! He's seen and tasted how good Thatch's food is, he wants to be able to make Deuce feel good and appreciated at the end of the day so therefor hes determined to learn one thing that's Deuce's favorite. Thatch and the other cooks think it's so sweet that Ace is committed like this to learn how to cook Deuce's favorite things just to make him happy, how can they not help him?! So they're right there to help the young commander in his mission, showing him what he needs to do and how to do it.

They are adorable. I’m a sucker for captain and first-mate dynamics and I wish we had more of these two. Just more about the spades and Ace’s journey in general.

But this is such a cute idea!

The Spades biggest problem was food. No one on that ship knew how to cook. So when they join up with the Whitebeards I can just imagine the joy at having some good food.

Ace doesn’t eat with his old crew mates right away, as Deuce made the decision to merge with the Whitebeards to keep the crew alive while Ace was still being a murder boy. So Ace isn’t there the first time Deuce gland the others get to eat Thatch’s cooking. There are tears all around.

Once Ace finally stops trying to murder Whitebeard and reunites with his old crew mates they sit down for a meal and just talk about how much better the food is. That this is just one of the benefits of joining up with the Whitebeards. (They’re trying to gauge where Ace is with accepting he’s no longer captain but Ace has already processed that. His crew hasn’t but he’s had time away to think while trying to murder Whitebeard)

So they join up and the time they get to spend together drastically decreases. After all the Spades are all spread out through the divisions. But Deuce is pretty centralized as a member of the 1st divisions medical staff. All of his old crewmates come to him for care but also for updates on each other. Deuce has all the tea and updates the Spades on how their old crewmates are doing when they can’t see each other as often.

Ace however make it a priority to meet up with Deuce at least once a week. Thats his fist-mate, doctor now, and who’s going to tell the 2nd division commanders no? No one. (The other commanders allow it because they have a betting pool on how long it will take for Ace and Deuce to realize they are in love with each other. Also it’s the only way to get Ace to get checked out after a fight/mission. He fights like a rabid dog against any doctor who isn’t Deuce and eventually Marcos.)

So the two of them get lunch/dinner/brunch/midnight snack (whatever time it is when they can meet) regularly. It’s in these meeting that Ace realizes that Deuce has a comfort meal. After a hard shift/battle Deuce gravitates towards one meal in particular. Ace isn’t the only one who notices as Thatch seems to always have a single serving on hand when Deuce needs it.

Ace logs that information away. At the moment it’s nothing more than “Deuce eats that a lot.” But then Deuce has a hard week. He had a lot of insecurities surrounding his ability as a doctor thanks to his father and working along side people like Marcos gives him big imposter syndrome sometimes. (He’s doing a great job. He’s learned a lot and learned fast, but he’s a medical school drop out from a high demanding family, no matter how good Marco’s and the other tell him he’s doing it never feels good enough. He’s always going to feel like the medical school drop out masquerading among real doctors.) on top of that he hasn’t had time to write in weeks and one of his journals got water logged. It’s just a rough time.

Ace finds the journal and is able to dry the pages by carefully heating his hand and hovering it over the pages. He doesn’t look at what Deuce wrote, he knows Deuce can be sensitive about that. (Mostly because Deuce knows he’s writing Ace through rose tinted glasses and is super embarrassed and stressed at the idea of Ace reading any of it.) the two sit together and talk about it as Deuce flips the pages and Ace keeps his hand a safe temperature to dry but not burn the pages.

Deuce tells him about how he’s feeling and how long the week has felt. “I haven’t even made it to the mess hall once this week. I just eat whatever the nurses bring by for us. Which is super nice of them but I’d like to get my own food and just sit for a bit you know?”

And Ace’s brain lights up. Deuce has a favorite meal. That could make Deuce feel better. He suggests going to the kitchen as soon as their done and get some food, Thatch will make that meal if Ace asks him to, they are friends. And Deuce agrees but is pulled away for a medical emergency.

But that’s not going to stop Ace. He heads over to Thatch and asks him about the meal. Thatch is surprised because he knows that Deuce’s comfort food, he’s a chef he notices that stuff. But for Portagas human black hole D. Ace to notice is different. He thought Ace swallowed without looking. But then again he would have to be blind to miss the way Ace looks at Deuce. So maybe Ace is more observant than they give him credit for.

Ace asks about make the meal, he means can Thatch make it, and Thatch hears, ‘teach me how to make my crushes favorite food!’ (He’s hopelessly romantic at heart) but problem. They can’t make that meal right now. He’s missing some ingredients. But they will be at port tomorrow and they can pick up what they need and Thatch will teach Ace how to make the dish.

Ace, who had not until this moment, thought about learning to cook realizes this is a great plan because he can come and make Deuce’s favorite whenever he’s sad, just cut out the middle man, agrees.

So the next day the two set off to get what they need to make Deuces favorite meal.

Problem

One Ace has only ever carved up meat, put it on sticks, and roasted it. He is not prepared for the amount of technical skills the meal requires.

He strikes me as the type to hear “separate the eggs” and push the individual in cracked eggs apart and then ask what’s next.

Thatch is at a cross because is kinda adorable but also so stupid and he can’t laugh because Ace is putting himself out here trying to learn and he shuts down when he thinks people are mocking him.

He almost losses it when the instructions are to beat something and Ace punches his fist to his palm with “that will be easy they won’t fight back”

It becomes significantly less funny when the instruction “roast veggies” comes up and Ace about burns down the kitchen with a cheer “I can do that” and attempts to fire fist them.

Which leads us to Problem 2: Ace is a fire man. Neither he or That h thought this would be a problem but as he’s cooking using the pan he gets nervous about whether or not Deuce will like it, if he’s going to ruin the dish, and his hand heats up without him realizing. The condition of heat transferring from his hand to the pan handle to the pan starts cooking the food at a way higher temperature then what the stove is set to. Leading to several burnt attempts and two fires before Thatch realized the problem.

It’s a day. Thatch didn’t think it could go this badly. But by the end Ace has “helped” to make Deuce meal. (He tried every step and incinerate all of his attempts so Thatch took over cooking and delegated all chopping and stirring to Ace. But the meal is made. It is edible. And Ace is walking it to Deuce.

Except Deuce is on medical shift and can see Ace right now.

That’s fine Ace will wait. So he waits in Deuce’s room using his hand to keep the meal warm. Deuce gets off hours later and is exhausted. When he gets to his room he finds a passed out Ace on his bed with his favorite meal resting on Ace’s stomach. It’s cold now, since Ace lost the battle with sleep a while ago. But it’s still one of the best things Deuce had had in weeks. After finishing the meal, he curls up next to his ex-captain and falls asleep.

When the two wake up Ace gets excited about giving him the food only to realize Deuce already ate it. He proudly tells Deuce he helped make it and the thank you and smile that he gets from Deuce makes his heart race.

When they separate for the day, Ace storms to the kitchen, basically kicking the door open. “Thatch I need to learn to cook!” Because the wants to see that smile on Deuces face all the time. He wants to be the cause of that smile.

Thatch still traumatized from yesterday, but also a good friend and hopeless romantic, agrees. On the condition that they start with simpler recipes.

So Ace starts helping out in the kitchen when he can, and telling Thatch all about his feelings for Deuce. Thatch loves this. He gets to hang out with his little brother and get all the drama while getting help on feeding this over sized crew. A win all around. The kitchen staff loves to tease Ace, it’s tame as they condone want to scare the boy away.

Ace also ends up being the medical staffs favorite delivery boy. He always wants to bring Deuce lunch and Thatch makes him take enough for the other doctors and nurses. It’s always good food, the staff doesn’t have to go get it, and it comes with the free show of watching Deuce and Ace stumble over themselves. A win for the medical staff all around.

As soon as Ace leaves the medical staff descends on Deuce asking when he’s going to put the “poor boy out of his misery.” And ask him out already. Deuce is five shades of red and denying it until some other member of the medical staff jokes “well if you’re not going to do it I will.” It’s a joke. Everyone in the Whitebeards ships the two of them together but Deuce doesn’t realize that.

He leaves that day with his brain full of “if you don’t do it I will.” And the thought drives him a little mad. He knows he doesn’t own Ace, and if Ace wants to date someone he’d be supportive but he’s so down bad for his friend that he can’t even think about Ace being with someone else without his heart aching.

He thinks he just needs the evening to sleep it off and feel better, but Ace runs into him outside of his room. He’s asking some question about if Deuce liked the lunch he made. And Deuce’s can’t take it. Because Ace is always making lunch for him now, sure the rest of the medical team on duty gets it as well but Ace specifically made it for him, not them and definitely not that other doctor.

He grabs Ace’s hand and drags him into his room. Ace is asking what is wrong but Deuce had already closed the door behind them and has whorled around to kiss Ace. His hands reaching up to frame Ace’s freckles cheek. His other hand snagging around Ace’s waist and its perfect.

Until Deuce brain kicks in and he pulls away because ‘omg I just ruined everything.’ Deuce is freaking out.

Meanwhile Ace’s brain melted the moment Deuce’s lips touched his. It oozed out of his ears when Deuce cradled his face and placed his hand on the small of his bare back. It take Ace a hot second to blink back to reality.

It’s Deuce’s “I’m sorry” and for a second Ace thinks Deuce didn’t want to kiss him until “I should have asked before-” never mind his friend? Is just an anxious mess.

And Ace kisses him back, both his hands coming up to frame Deuce’s cheeks. He bad at this he’s to excited and didn’t plan on angling their noses or anything. He just wanted to kiss his friend again.

Once Deuce’s brain kicks back in he has to use his hold on Aces hair to fix their position, pulling back just enough to fit them together better. But doing so made Ace whin and chase after him and why hadn’t they done this earlier?

Oh boy this got away from me.

EGG POLL CONCLUSIONS

thank you to everyone who participated in the final round of the egg poll, and in the entire tournament!!! in case you havent seen the results... RALSEI IS THE WINNER AND IS NOW CROWNED THE OFFICIAL BIGGEST EGG OF 2023!!!!!

the final round was honestly really surprising compared to previous ones! the semifinals were ridiculously competitive and both switched hands multiple times, with final results ending up around 50%. the finals however had ralsei be above 60% for i think the entire run, ending a lot closer to 2/3s for ralsei rather than half. the poll only got about 900 votes, not a small amount at all for the whole tournament but a lot less than the 3000-4000 the semifinals got.

my best guess for why this happened is that the majority of people invested in the tournament wanted/expected marco to win the semifinals, and mob just happened to get a push of support at the last minute. personally i expected marco to win the whole thing! but regardless this outcome was still really fun and im glad everyone joined in how they did :3

now for future things!! first, i am finally going to release the initial raw data for submissions. this is unfiltered and egg-poll is not responsible for its contents. but if you want to see the nominated characters or reasonings you finally can! here is the link:

Summary: Your a 28 year old rookie or so they think who eventually gains the Second Devision Commander position. Marco is 33 since were skipping 10 years. (Im not good at math) Marco first talked with you like he does all rookies. At first no one has any clue you were a devil fruit user, you were such a sad soul crying silently or having a dead expression on all the time. Then Marco helped you out of being bullied after seeing how severe the bullying was getting, it was becoming torture. You then learned how to be the second commander of the Whitebeard pirates with Marcos help. Many years later while playing spin the bottle truth or dare both your feelings are revealed.

"..*speech*...... all right rookies line up to get your room key. If you loose it, then well throw you overboard! Hahaha thats all kids" you hear Pops say as your in line, these four guys cut you which you let them, saddened eyes dejected looking down. Little did you care for someone elses eyes on you.

~ After Getting Settled In Your Single Person Room Since Your A Female~

You go out but are pushed/bumped into by the four men.

"Better watch your back if your trying to start a fight missy"

"Yaa!"

They all said laughing crowding you.

Thats when it started, the bullying. In the hallway they stopped for now getting bored by your expressionless face.

"Come on shes no fun!"

"Man your right lets go!" The other two agreed and you waited for them to leave. Once you were sure they were gone you made your way out on deck. Not caring for food you just head to the side of the medical office up some stairs and sit legs out between the columns of the railing looking out towards the sea. After awhile you feel someone coming up to you, you tense up.

"What are you doing over here all alone? Why not go drink and meet new people? Yoi" you turn to see the first devision commander Marco say with a ale mug in his hand. You reply

"Im ....allergic... and I.... dont... care... to..........hmm......" you sigh wind whisping your hair over your face. Completely emotionless.

"Allright suit yourself I wont push you but if you need to talk im here Yoi" he says then walks off.

~The First Couple Nights Nothing Happened~

Then one night since you always suppress you devil fruit so others can touch you. After dinner after everyone left they stuffed you in a barrel and left you over night. In the morning you woke up early to hear someone by you saying.

"Odd, whered this barrel come from? Yoi" you hear obviously Marco from his speach pattern.

"......help....." you whisper but he seemed to have caught it because he opened the barrel to reveal you curled up inside. He helps you get out.

"What happened? Who did this to you?! Yoi" he asks and you just look down. He helps you out of the barrel. An involuntary tear running down your face. He bends down and softly wipes away your tear with his thumb.

"If others are bullying you come tell me. Its not right and we dont have room aboard the ship for troublemakers Yoi!" He explains as you just look down and nod another tear fallen.

"I have to start my shift, but feel free to come in to the medical office anytime to talk. I mean it (n) Yoi"

~Later That Night At Dinner In The Back~

"Come on doll, chug chug chug!" The leader of the four yells, voice getting lost in the crowd. Them holding onto your arms. Once their done spilling alcohol down your throat and all over you, you fall down on the floor in the puddle they made of alcohol.

"Oh shit she fell we should leave so no one notices" the leader says as you just lay there completely expressionless.

~After Dinner~

You were curled up partially hidden by sitting barrels but someone noticed you. You felt yourself being picked up and carried away. Once to said destination you hear.

"(n) I cant help if you dont tell me what the problem is or in this case who the problems are. I know theres more than one of them. Is it three or four of them? Yoi" the commander asks.

"..... four....." you didnt want to speak you felt so sick as the commander put an IV in you.

"Get some sleep (n) you can clean up tomorrow. The door will be locked. Yoi" he replys.

"Thank....... you.... commander....." you meekly say. He turns surprised you said something positive.

"Of course Yoi" he says with a big smile as he turns off the lights then you hear him exit the office and lock the building. You drift of to sleep on your med bed.

~Months Later~

Everytime something happens you have to visit Marco, who has been getting more and more suspicious of certain men. Their bullying has been getting worse and worse but just so they dont get caught, but they went to far this time.

When everyone was asleep, you thought you were alone on deck. When a bag went over your head, they stuffed a rag in your mouth and you felt yourself off the ground. Suddenly you feel a piercing pain go through your hands and then feet then stomach as you coughed on blood on the rag desperately trying to yell. Then they left but you still felt eyes on you as you passed out from pain. You awoke in the morning with an IV in your arm on a med bed. The heart beat monitor gave you away. Raising your head to see Marco walk from behind the wall, to your bedside. You just realized your eyes have betrayed your tears overflowing falling hard from your face. The first devision commander gave you a tissue.

"(N) this has been going on for months tell me whose doing this to you Yoi!" Marco lost his cool for a moment then readjusted himself.

"(N) please for your sake and mine please just tell me who they are Yoi" he says softly and holds your cold hand warming you up. Everything youve bottled up came crashing down. Through tears you say

"Its Riko and his groupie. I just feel like I deserve this...."

"What do you mean you deserve all of that? No one deserves what youve been through! Yoi" he replys taking off his glasses pinching the bridge of his nose, then putting his glasses back on.

"Sobbing you speak through your sobs.

"I killed my ....parents when I..... was very young.... I pieced it ....together. I couldnt control it..... their dead because....of ...me" you full on ugly cry sitting up Marco undoes all your IVs and wires and rubs your back. Hes on his rolling chair and transforms into hybrid form pulling you onto his lap hugging you as you cry it all out.

"Sounds like youve been surpressing you devil fruit for a long time Yoi"

"What did they do to me this time? I passed out from the pain..." you question him as he replys.

"They crucified you to the sail pole. To be honest I was scared they nailed you with sea prism nails and one through the stomach. I didnt think youd make it but your natural powers happened and regenerated yourself when you were asleep. Yoi" Once done crying you look up at Marco.

"Do I deserve to live after something like what I did?" You tear up but are quiet now.

"Of course you deserve to live! Find your own happiness. It sounds like an accident you couldnt help it or control your powers. Where are you from? What have you been doing this whole time with your life? Yoi?" He asks rambling.

"I just feel like I deserve it..... Im from Skypeia.... I had a angry phase so.... id destroy islands. The world government wants me dead only. Heres my bounty" you pull out a paper from your shirt and give it to him as he transforms into human.

"Hmm (N)D.(L) 4,000,000,000! Dead Only Yoi" He yells the number part.

"Well they never actually got my face...so they dont know what I look like...." he nods and responds.

"Do you mind me giving this to Pops? Yoi" he asks you politely.

"Sure..... I trust you..... Marco" you say with a twinge of blush at being so close realizing your current position noticing he also had a small blush on his face.

DL: How was your childhood?

RG: Its a different ballgame now, My childhood was struggling so as it now. Being an artist is so hard. Compare to no other profession.

DL: What was your favorite cartoons growing up?

RG: Voltes five

DL: And any Hanna barbera cartoons you also liked?

RG: Yogi Bear, of course that was the first thing i saw when i was growing up ...voltes was later.

DL: Did you drew a lot as a kid, how did you wanna be a animator, how did you got introduced to cartoons?

RG: Yes, I drew a lot back then even on walls in the neighborhood, in the palm of my hand anything flat. I never knew how its done before, i thougt all along it was moving on its own...it needs only one drawing and thats it...but when i enter the Filcartoons i was amazed how its done!

DL: How was growing up during Ferdinand Marcos rule Until 1986?

RG: It was painful...rice with corn ..people suddenly gone nowhere to find, people were scared you can see soldiers around ...my father was picked up in the evening ..us knowing nothing ...and then came back in the morning exhausted...future was gone ..people doesnt know what to do in order to survive..it was really scary...marcos recruited armies in his hometown province so that they can communicate in their own dialect..very astute dictator.

DL: Before then, how did you got into cartoons?

RG: My family, little they know i applied for this while stiil im studying ...good for me because after two weeks training, fire broke out in our neighboors and unfortunately we were included. So i already had the job after we were confined in the hospital. I was trained in Fil Cartoons as a Layout Animation...and the studio was really nice....i was in college ..third year in the School of Fine Arts in the University of the East in Caloocan City here in the Philippines...i applied for the training given at that time by Fil Cartoons as an Animation Layout ... I see ..it was really fun back then back then ...it started two years after the EDSA People Power Revolution and Fil Cartoons started in the 21st and 22nd floor of Strata 2000 building in Ortigas Ave. if my memory serves me right.

DL: So what was your first project at fil cartoons?

RG: That was Yogi Bear back then. And we were trained by John Rice, an Australian animator.

DL: How was John rice?

RG: I think John already settled here he married a filipina and stayed here.

DL: I believe he was from HB Australia.

RG: Yup, Hanna Barbera Australia!

DL: Yeah , so thoughts on the yogi bear character and his cartoons?

RG: Yogi Bear as a training materials for a starter like me was not that so hard because it was cartoony. It easy to turn around the character , And posing in a different position was easy because of its character designed.

DL: To ask a question, how do you move a character in animation? Like inbetweens?

RG: Yup..its a painstaking process. Not unlike today everything is in the stock.

DL: Yeah, like today people use flash animation and just move the puppet around.

RG: Yup! it speeds up the process.

DL: So how do you do inbetweens, can you explain it to me because I don’t understand how do they move without flipping the model like they do in flash?

RG: I was trained as a Layout Animation after that it goes down to the Animator for them to do the key poses and goes down to the inbetweeners. And after in the inbetweeners it goes down to the clean up and zerox department. The Background layout goes down to the Backgrounder to be painted in acrylic. The flipping goes down in the animator by using a QAR machine..it was a Quick Animation Recorder for the line test.. Thats were the action happens!

DL: So the layout artist is the guy who does the key poses for the betweeners to work out.

RG: The animator. Layout artist do the staging and the blocking of the character ..the first and last poses only and the background staging.

DL: So how was the head honcho, jerry smith?

RG: Jerry Simth was the one bring the animation in the Philippines together with a certain general here , Mowelfund, and other Bigtime businessmen. I will try to recall their names.

DL: So, how was jerry personally?

RG: Uhm..Jerry was generous only those he partnered where is the greedy.

DL: So he was from America right? From the HB studio in America?

RG: Yes, I think he is dead already.

DL: Yeah, he died 25 years ago. He was such a good man, As I heard everyone love him at fil cartoons.

RG: Yup he was really generous and he wants to uplift the lives of filipino artist.

DL: Well in Thad Komorowski’s book, he said that the place was a shithole I think. And the working conditions were poor.

RG: Only the filipinos businessmen he partnered is the problem. Yes its true the first location of the Fil Cartoons studio in Strata 2000 in ortigas was really a shithole specially the Restroom.

DL: Wow! Did people really had to sleep outside? Because they couldn’t afford to pay rent because of the low salary?

RG: Not really outside but inside the studio we were sleeping because other artist living in far away places. We were allowed to sleep in the studio below the animation table where we were working.

DL: Ah like John lasseter during the first days of Pixar?

RG: Exactly! And the food were listed in the canteen and paid weekly.

DL: Ah. That’s your word for cafeteria right? Canteen. For us Americans, that word is referred as a circular water container.

RG: I see the water canteen in the US army. Yes we used to that naming.

DL: So, we’re there any foreigners/nor Filipino animators at fil cartoons? Like American,Canadian, Australian,etc?

RG: As far as i can recall there were at least ten foreigners..not exactly..well Filipino animators after having years of experience were able to go the US and Australia and after a decade recruited in india and other southeast asian countries.

DL: Ah, so all Filipino (minus jerry) staff then?

RG: Yes , some foreign animators visiting but the staff almost filipino from accounting department down the line

DL: Oh, I see. So, can you tell me about those Filipino businessmen that were leading jerry the wrong way?

RG: The setup of the studio is like shanties each cubicle. The management was layered with politician and vic palileo i think was just a frontman.

DL: And so it’s was the past president’s cronies? Ferdinand Marcos?

RG: Yes. Josep Estrada the former president was the head of Mowelfund if i was not mistaken. Founder i think.

DL: Ah and so,, what was their deal with poor old Jerry, bribery or extortion?

RG: Probably...the philippines at that time was just recovering from a dictator and a lot of their cronies is in key position.

DL: Ah, must be hard for a American living in the Philippines doing his job supervising cartoons for Hanna barbera.

RG: Yes.

DL: So, can we talk about some of the projects at fil cartoons you did? First I want to bring up is the smurfs, How was working on that program?

RG: Yes that was a nice program, so easy to do, not only if you were given character in groups, that was easy. And its was fun to do ..and snorks.

DL: The character designs were all the same so that was a bonus!

RG: Yup! Police Academy The series.

DL: How was working on the show?

RG: It was great! The rate is good because its not so cartoony almost real like anatomy.

DL: Did You watch the films?

RG: No i havent because we dont have betamax player at that time. And the access to movie was only for the well off.

DL: Ah gotcha. Paddington bear how was your experience in that?

RG: Yup Paddington. Not so hard to do ..

DL: Why? Was it, because the character was easy to draw?

RG: It was cartoony. Full Body anatomy with almost realistic detail was really hard to do when it comes to full body turn around. Off modeled is the biggest problem.

DL: So speaking off model, did you ever drew anything “off model”? As fil cartoons had a horrible reputation for being off model.

RG: Of course ..almost every artist goes to that.

DL: Any examples you remember that you went like “that doesn’t look right but I have to finish this so this will do.” ?

He ask for my email address, I send it to him and he gives me a demo reel of his 90s work. The only things I could decipher is are German cartoon, fix and foxi and friends and the Canadian toon, the 2001 Anne of green gables adaptation.

DL: The footage looks a little choppy.

RG: So you could have an idea how tedious is the hand drawn animated cartoons.

DL: Yeah, I can believe you. It’s rough!

RG: Its a pencil test compiled.

DL: Yeah it isn’t Disney level pencil test. But it’s something.

RG: Its not complete with inbetween drawings just key poses.

DL: Ah ok. So a pup named Scooby doo, How was that program?

RG: Yeah i also able to work on that project but it was a short stint. Disney is full animation a 24 frame rate per second while the saturday morning show cartoons is limited to 15 frames per second..

DL: Wow! And it’s because it’s cheaper and faster?

RG: Yes. And they were done in movie format.

DL: But back to a pup named Scooby doo, how was it drawing the expressions and the squash and stretch animation the characters had contrast to other stilted animation?

RG: It was really exagerrated..that was the intention of the director. Each show has its own style of animation.

DL: And was he Glen Kennedy? The director of the animation?

RG: I think so..kathllen and glen lived here in the phil for a short period of time. Just for the project.

DL: Well he moved back in 1995 to work for a company called animasia, or was that Malaysia?

RG: Yup Animasia. I think he also helped with the setup of L.A. animation studio at the back of Folk Arts Theater in Roxas Blvd. If my memory serves me right.

DL: Ah, how was glen? Because he was rumored to have said to kill Tom ruegger over him getting fired over his work on tiny toons.

RG: Ah that was way way back..as far as i know he was into drugs...that was i heard..

DL: Well if that’s true, he’s clean now. That must be the reason he said that.

RG: Good for him, Drugs at that time was rampant here.

DL: Like morphine as that drug was very popular there.

RG: No... shabu...poor man's cocaine.

DL: I never heard that.

RG: Coke coming from hong kong.

DL: Oh yeah. I know that.

RG: It was just a short stint in the scooby doo it was intended for senior layout artist not for a newbie.

DL: Scooby doo and the reluctant werewolf, how was working your first feature film?

RG: I tried but the director is too strict and disciplined..but the rate is good. I never get thru. We never get credits for any show only the seniors.

DL: That’s why you don’t have a IMDb?

RG: Yes,Its politics.

DL: Oh, That’s sad.

RG: Only the privileged in the higher ups.

DL: That’s makes so upset.

RG: Im able to work in the feature film in the india studio ...The Buddha.

DL: Ok that’s great. So the Jetsons movie? Was that your first feature?

RG: I animated some scene here but were not included in the credits.

DL: God, that musta sucks. Was it when George jetson was in traffic and pulls up a inflatable policeman to get out of traffic before get got pull over from a actual police officer?

RG: Thats how life it is... Actually the expats enjoyed here much ...somebody do the work for them. And those who had attitude problem was thrown here.

DL: Man, the agony. Greatest stories from the Bible? How was working on that series?

RG: Im not able to participate on that ..it has a good rate.

DL: Oh ok, fantastic max. How was working on that?

RG: Yeah fantastic max ..only limited. Also Cliffhanger.

DL: For fantastic max musta sucked.

RG: Little house of Horror.

DL: What does that mean?

RG: Its a tv show ..Little House of Horror..maybe not in the US.

DL: Oh yeah, never heard of that.

RG: We almost do the outsourcing from other countries not only in the US

DL: Never knew that! From Europe?

RG: We did Mozart from germany.

DL: I think I saw that on your demo reel. How was that?

RG: It was good.

DL: So did fil cartoons worked on Winnie the Pooh and darkwing duck for Disney? As did you worked on those?

RG: Yup! Nah ..winnie is just recent...i worked in fil in the old studio after that i moved to others ...politics is intensifying.

DL: Ah ok.

You've been feeling sort of low these days ❞ You've been stressing so much, as if the world had put so many things on your plate , never giving you a break..you'd isolate yourself to finish what you need to work on. Eventually worrying everyone around you. But, who was worried most....was one of your closest friends , Sano Manjiro or Mikey, as what he's usually called. You were pretty close with everyone in Toman, being close friends with the founding members is quite the adventure - a childish bunch of highschoolers...but you loved them quite a lot. They haven't heard from you in..what seems like forever, at first they didn't worry too much, but when you had completely ghosted Mikey and them for weeks they really started to worry. Eventually they had come over to your place since you gave Mikey a spare key. "Y/n? Are you here! The guys and I wanna hang out! They're waiting at the park!" he laughed in his usual childish tone til he got no response. So he tried knocking again with a pout, "Y/nnnnn-" thats when he really was getting worried. "Y/n I'm coming in!" He used the spare key to unlock the door and walked in, instantly noticing how dull it was so...somber..only one of the room of the lights were on, that being the kitchen light. The house a bit of a mess. Noticing you weren't on the couch he instantly went off to your room, opening the door unexcused as he always would- a bright smile as he bursted in, though it was soon replaced when he saw you, curled up on the bed. You looked....so..sick...pale, he'd instantly rushed to your side, crouching by the bed. "Y/n what's wrong?You okay?" You turned to look at him with a weak smile "I'm fine, Manjiro." You gave a dull response.."No its not okay- What's up with you? We're all so worried!". You kept looking at him with that dull expression as you yawned and gave him another dry response. "Need a break.." ❝ It's simply just my stubborn heart no doubt, rambling away ❞ Thats when it finally hit him , god how was he so stupid- You'd been working hard on your finals and it had been stressing you. But at the same time you'd have to deal with the Toman boys as well, constantly taking care of them while trying to focus on yourself too. On top of that, you've been having some conflicts within your family as well. You were overworked , so so tired... "I'm sorry.." He layed his head on your bed infront of you, the feeling of guilt washing over him "m' so sorry-" he held your hand, rubbing your hand gently trying to comfort you. "It's okay, no worries." He sat back up normally , a pout back on his face "It's not okay! How could I not notice- I can't even call myself one of your closest friends if I can't notice how you're feeling!"his pout deepened as he heard you snort "What's so funny?!" "You're so childish , Mikey- it's okay really" you said in between giggles, that pout stayed on his face but he was happy to see you smiling..it made him happy that he could easily put a smile back on your face . It gave him this fuzzy feeling... You sat up and squeaked as he instantly ran to hug you and you two fell back on your bed "M' glad to see you smile..." he nuzzled into your neck "so so happy.." You glanced down at him as he continued to ramble on "I couldn't stand not talking to you....I missed seeing your face, everyone missed you.." you softly smiled as you started to run your fingers through his hair.

I'll put the sparkle right back in your eyes , what could you lose? ❞ He wasn't sure if it was because of the moment, or because he's wanted to say this for a while, but...as soon as you drifted off into sleep, Mikey still laying on you, he finally said it. The answer is alot and Ace is fucking vicious over it like transforms alongside him, four large hands restraining Marco’s uncontrollable eruption of flaming plumage, because its his first time he’s not sure what shape to take and which parts translate into avian so hes an amalgamate and thats

Really scary so Ace is there to ground him, Marco never though he would be relieved to see a demon king holding him down

2022 in review

in an effort to blog about art on my art blog more i will be writing a post covering my work in 2022 and maybe some aspirations going forward into 2023

2022 was the year of learning to paint! at the beginning i was really frustrated, a lot of my pieces were very hit or miss and i couldnt tell why some sucked and some fuckd. i nibbled at some online courses for fundamentals, James Gurney’s Color & Light book and Marco Bucci’s painting videos, and was looking for a mentor at one point but i think i stopped cuz i broke my thumb briefly lol

in June i split a schoolism sub with emma and it was an amazing decision. i think if you have limited time to practice drawing or dont know where to go the best thing is to take a course, and ive taken cheap or free courses online but the tutors on schoolism are top of the industry and the quality of their teaching is stellar imo. literally felt my brain explode with knowledge they are the best of the best. i finished the painting workout course with wouter tulp and ive dipped in and out of numerous others since then. its cool bcus u can study at your own pace.

July was artfight, i did talk about it here so not gonna repeat myself heh

then i was really busy with my MA, its been so fun and so exhausting. a year is so short and i want to try all the printing techniques and ceramics and everything cry. but hey now i know indesign and can make my own zines and stuff which is amazing. i also tabled at my first market :) i did really like it and would love to do more, dont want to put pressure on myself to do that this year but at least wanna visit them and scope out the audiences and stuff.

school really is making me appreciate traditional art again, tbh it is nothing like digital. you just cant get that chaos or physical resistance from your materials in digital, everything is very deliberate and constructed and almost predictable. ive started to incorporate more traditional work into my pieces where i can, especially photobashing. i can use photos i offhandedly took years ago and it feels really nice to get to repurpose them.

a spread from my school project, a book about one of my passions (i chose the story of how i got into elden ring!!!) i made it from paper cutting, photobashing, and digital. (im going to sell pdf and physical copies in the new year)

so circling back to the start of the year, i think you can see marked progress in my illustrations that ive posted here. i think i learned a lot about techniques within a painting but i want to learn more about pictorial composition bcus my default tends to be 3:4, portrait, charas centre, and i want to break that habit and tell more effective stories :)

over the past 2 years ive been incorporating more realism into the characters i draw and trying to be really deliberate with what features, proportions etc they have.

a 2021 isa and a 2022 isa

i think i want to maintain this level of detail because its descriptive enough for my needs but i want to push it to be more dynamic and stylised. i really admire the way disney animators like jin kim do it. its because im not confident enough with structure and anatomy to really play with it.

on the other hand with life drawing i really want to do more realism and capture exactly whats in front of me because i think i rely on style as a crutch too much hahaha.

thats whats on my mind really. again really dont want to put any undue pressure on myself and i am going to be really busy until october at least. i am seriously proud of my progress in 2022. and im really looking forward to playing bloodborne x
