"Can we keep them all? Can we? Can we??"
Of course you can keep them, Sarmenti dear, I've already spent a bunch of candles to acquire these pets anyways (instead of investing candles into upgrading heroes' skills, lol). X`)
Also, Pygmy Pliskin is hintin' that Dismas is not getting into Sarmenti's pants tonight. XD
Oh, and btw, I actually used these five pets in my DD2 runs. And Mucilaginous Slime is my fav. XD

^ look at these animals. absolutely incredible design
#body horror tw#i NEED to sprint into the first final dungeon expedition this instant i need to see the shuffling horror. it has been years since i fought--#--it and i want 2 see if there is anything said abt it being a shambler which has the Meat of the ancestral home growing upon--#--it like an infection. like a rogue animal of the void which has been captured and twisted up by the hearts worshippers#i just love love the wandering bosses so much like they are all such a perfect marriage of character design and gameplay. mwah mwah <3#second image of a shambler tentacle. it spawns two of those upon encountering it and throughout the fight and they have a single--#--move called 'clapperclaw' (will admit that i usually just call them clapperclaws rather than shambler tentacles lol) that gives it huge--#--buffs which stack up w each successful hit so they turn into a very godawful problem if u do not deal w them right away. the real menaces-#--of the shambler fight#OHH i mentioned the shuffling horror now i need to talk abt ingame nesdin again. brought him along to my first real attempt at the first--#--final dunegon expedition years ago and ended up having 2 retreat during the boss fight bc my arbalest got killed real early into it and--#--my vestal died of a heart attack (due to a crit? i think) so the only guys i had left were nesdin (was virtuous i think?) and--#--mortemer the leper and it was mortemer who died on the expedition retreat. it was very dramatic and also the moment that solidified--#--nesdin as a real Character in my head. hed been a very solid guy to take on expeditions beforehand but i started spinning him around--#--in my head after that lol#^ i remember very clearly going oh FUCK and retreating the instant nesdin hit deaths door after the vestals death. maybe mortemer was--#--virtuous as well ? i remember having this incredibly impossible belief that they could tough it out together bc nesdin had the virtue--#--that had him occasionally heal himself and mortemer had his own self heal but i think the first deaths door check on him had me--#--freak out and retreat. sat at my desk w my eyes closed for like a minute b4 abandoning the expedition all together begging 4--#--nesdin to be the one to survive lol

Have you had a look at the new enemies in darkest dungeon 2? While there are some ones I love, I feel like this game has leaned into the more standard "eyes and tentacles" lovecraft stuff rather than the more unique pigs and mushrooms and mosquitoes.
(spoilers?)
The jellyfish people and the creepy angelic things, especially the one with the "vampire squid" tentacles, feel more original and ambitious to me than some of the first game's monsters! But it is a trade-off, since a lot of my favorites haven't returned. I'd have loved to see more from the insect vampires, though you can at least get a "tick" in their style as one of the pets for your caravan beby:
Tumblr media
I've just been watching @revretch play now and then. I also have to say, I feel like there are people who disagree but the 3d models in motion are just phenomenal in how well they still retain the first game's art style. Like if not for a few obviously 3d parts I'd have thought this was still a puppet-rigged sprite:
Tumblr media
I also love how now a bigger part of the gameplay is your chosen party members developing different opinions and relationships with one another. It's such a grimdark world and still a major part of it are cute shipping mechanics. Rev's plague doctor and highwayman hated each other at first but developed a mutual respect. Then they got mad at each other again. What will happen next!?!!? DISAGREE however with the fact that of all the pets, only the "orphan wolf pup" gives a boost to positive character relationships. I think all the pets should. A found family should absolutely be able to bond over their mutual love of their Shambler Spawn.

I mentioned this gang in a previous post I and figured it was time to show them off. They're a Cawdor gang turned to the worship of Slaanesh.
Formerly devout followers of the emperor and proud members of the Redemptionist cult, now screeching the praises of a new master.
Seeking atonement for their sins through purifying fire, their prayers were answered but not by the emperor. Something in the flames spoke to them, it spoke of the lies told to them by preachers and propagandists.
Tumblr media
Maddened by their experience and turned from the imperial creed, they set out into the underhive to spread their faith. They believe that pain will liberate them from the limits of their mortal bodies and souls and are only happy to share the suffering that others may see the truth.
Members of the cult leave their old identities behind by burning themselves beyond recognition, donning heavy iron masks to be their new faces and adopting new names.
Tumblr media
This gang has been in the works on and off for a while now. most of the models are just Cawdor and Redemptionists with a head swap and sometimes a little bit of sculpting. the heads are from Reptilian Overlords Miniatures.
I find that Necromunda's relatively low model count means that you can put quite a bit more time in every model while still keeping it manageable.
It's already a sizeable gang but i do have plans to expand it further. plans include The Unmade from warcry as well as another Cawdor kit to make some of the more deranged members of the cult. I’m also working on a stig shambler I’m building from some spare bits as well as two more spawns made from accursed cultists in the works to represent the higher tiers of chaos spawn

I should've submitted Spy from TF2 for Stranger bracket because of his disguises, dang it. Also Agent 47, because in order to assisinate targets he disguises himself as any man regardless of age, race, appearance, or mannerisms, and practically nobody can see through it until it's too late. Anyway, here's some of my submissions that didn't make the cut: Dark
Shambler (Darkest Dungeon): From TV Tropes: “A primeval nightmare summoned from the darkest recesses of the unknown, a star-spawned horror, an infinite malignity of the stars that inhabits the Void between Worlds that was never meant to be seen […] lurks in the shadows, waiting until all forms of light are extinguished so that it can enter the world to hunt its prey and feed its spawn […] The creature itself is bathed in shadow, and coloured like the night itself […] The implication is that it's been hunting the party the entire time but can only come out when there's no light […] constantly delivers endless stress damage on the heroes by simply existing […] Much of the Flavor Text surrounding it talks about how humanity has always feared the dark and offers the suggestion that this thing is the reason for that fear”.
Nightwielder (The Reckoners Trilogy): controls black “mist” with enough strength that he can keep the entire city of Newcago (post-apocalypse Chicago) shrouded in permanent darkness. Weak to sunlight.
The Pony of Shadows (MLP:FIM): primordial darkness incarnate who wants to consumer the whole world in eternal dark--not night so much as pitch black void. Tempted Stygian into offering himself up as a host to the darkness. Manus (Dark Souls): corrupted all of Oolacile and Artorias, created the Abyss—the unchecked form of Humanity (Darkness), uses Abyss magic. Darkstalker Kaathe (Dark Souls): tries to tempt the Chosen Undead into bringing about the Age of Dark.
Stranger I already detailed in another post. Spiral
Pinkie Pie (MLP:FIM): regularly breaks the laws of physics, biology, and reality by operating on cartoon logic in a way that is fundamentally alien to the rest of her world. Feeling Pinkie Keen is an entire episode of Twilight being driven to madness because there is no logical explanation for how Pinkie Sense works, and yet it clearly DOES work, so there MUST be an explanation, but there ISN’T, and it makes no SENSE. Alternate form called Chaos Princess Pinkie Pie, who is only 20% more chaotic than Pinkie Pie usually is (https://antifandom.com/mlp-gameloft/wiki/Chaos_Princess_Pinkie_Pie). The only being besides Discord who can control Discord’s Chaos magic, but only for a few seconds before it drives her crazy. Has magic similar in nature to that of unicorns, as shown in School Raze Part 2, even though she is an Earth Pony. Her sheer batshit weirdness allows her to play ten instruments at once (including a harmonica) WITHOUT HER MOUTH. What the fresh fuck is up with this pony.
Lucretia (The Adventure Zone): Uses the Voidfish to erase the memories of her friends and gives them fake ones; this accidentally results in her massively fucking up their personalities by erasing critical parts of themselves, especially especially Davenport--his entire life was wrapped up in the mission she wiped his memories of, so his identity was practically annihilated and he was only able to say his own name. She also uses the Voidfish to wipe the memories of the entire world so they'll forget the Relic Wars; consequently, people can't even perceive words related to what she's erased as anything more than static. She does even more deception by creating a fake second moon that acts as her base of operations. Tinky (Hatchetfield): His shtick seems specifically to be driving people into incoherent madness by tangling them up in a Timey-Wimey Ball until their perception of reality no longer makes sense. His whole goal is to screw with people’s minds and trap them in The Bastard's Box: a permanent, neverending mindfuck ("a twisting, endless maze") for those trapped inside it, where the souls of those whose lives he’s turned into unresolvable Time Paradoxes are trapped forever. A single glimpse inside the Bastard's Box — or a moment of hearing the screams of those lost inside — is enough to completely break a human being's mind, as shown when he breaks Ted’s mind and turns him into the Homeless Man. He then haunts the Homeless Man for fifteen years to keep him from regaining his sanity.
Micolash (Bloodborne): Leader of the School of Mensis, who sought to make contact with the Great Old Ones through unethical science; they technically succeeded, but their efforts caused the "stillbirth" of their brains. The item description of the Mensis Cage he and his followers wear says that "The cage is a device that restrains the will of the self, allowing one to see the profane world for what it is. It also serves as an antenna that facilitates contact with the Great Ones of the dream. But to an observer, the iron cage appears to be precisely what delivered them to their harrowing nightmare." He now resides in the Nightmare of Mensis, a twisted dream realm full of "countless statues that resemble human bodies melded together, and eyes that are sticking to every surface inside the buildings." He is the "Host of the Nightmare," implying he is master of this realm, and it shows in the twisting corridors he leads the player running through on a circular goose chase during his boss fight. He revels in his madness, as shown by his voice lines, and doesn’t want to wake up from the nightmare he created. He and his followers also summoned and chained up the Brain of Mensis, which induces Frenzy (a status condition that causes damage apparently from causing physically harmful levels of madness) just by looking at the player.
Shabriri (Elden Ring): "The most reviled man in all history" of the Lands Between, who has been serving the Frenzied Flame by preaching chaos and retribution long enough that "It is said that the sickness of the flame of frenzy began with [him]." The Frenzied Flame is a god associated with madness that apparently wants to return the world to primordial chaos by killing everyone; its associated Incantations induce the Madness status effect, it drives those who fall victim to its influence insane, and it is associated with Body Surfing--Shabriri hops between corpses, and there's a questline about an apparently dead character coming back and seeking to become its servant, apparently to lead the player to its prison. Shabriri himself encourages the player to become Lord of the Frenzied Flame and engulf the world in chaos.
And Slaughter is also another not!character propaganda post. Looking forward to the Hunt bracket!

Shambling child
Listen, there’s this line in DD2 that calls the Shambler “a star-spawned child of the infinite void” and I thought back to that comment about an abandoned child raised by the Shambler. But now I raise you: what if Shamblers are babies in terms of the horrific cosmic monster development cycle?

a positive of me ignoring other stuff in favorite of sitting/lying down as much as possible, bar funeral exception: unlocked 3 dd2 achievements. would have started on a fourth, memory related one, but youll never guess what i forgot to do (apply memories)
achievos were defeat a shambler with shamblers spawn: at long last, i finally got an academics study with the beast. my team didnt make it out alive 3/4, but the shambler was defeated with only one casualty so yay
defeat 3 lair bosses in one run: i went leviathan, general and librarian. it was tricky with the librarian bc of my team but rearranging them and stalling a bit worked
enter the mountain with all positive relationships: more of a coincidence than anything, but since i was already there i gave it a go.
the last two were on the same run on obssession, and i also fought it, beat it, no one died. the current nerf to it made it very easy me thinks, like if you get distracted during it you will likely still get bodied. so i guess my hardest boss is ambition now? also some shrine stuff, finished grave robber and started runaway. after her is plague doc and its done with
update on my ankle: i think the painkillers and compression combo helped swelling go down by a lot today, even with me having to walk short distances (borrowing my late grandma's crutches). i thought at first one of my aunts suggested she would make me a splinter but i gravely misunderstood and it was catholic witchcraft. like sorry but i got no better way to describe it (she didnt like me pointing out that it WAS witchcraft adjacent just cosigned by jesus) it was a hands off ritual involving prayer and objects and i entertained them but i dont think it will help physically aoaodjdeikwak
well anyways im doing better 👍 thank you to those who cared. i have hopes of walking normally by monday so i dont have to take the crutch with me. in the short amount of time i had it out i already got a hand blister <3 tis the life of cursed by god

Before Death swept the Kingdom, this zombie led a simple life. Hewing down mighty trees for lumber wasn't glorious nor profitable but it was honest work. Its only claim to fame was being the best at log rolling in folk competitions. The birler had thought it odd then when a pale, mysterious noble took interest in them. Still, they didn't mind their company and eventually, the necking session which left them weak and feverish. Perhaps they would have ended up a vampire spawn, but tragedy found them and so many others raised into undeath in a different way. The vampiric taint still clings to this shambler. Its wounds constantly bleed leaving it with slick read patches and an axe dripping half-congealed blood. Instead of chopping down trees, it fells the living all the while seeking that pale lover.

Fuck it, Shambler/Warden comparison post.
For those who aren't aware, I have a bit of a running gag going on here about Warden Minecraft bearing a heavy (mostly visual) resemblance to Quake's Shambler enemies, so here's a long list of their various traits (again, mostly visual), with shared traits highlighted in green and marked with a ✓, and differing traits highlited in red and marked with a ×.
Wardens:
Eyeless, with a single large mouth as its only facial feature✓
Thicc 'n' chonky✓
Some kind of eldritch nasty✓
Very expressively animated✓
Indeterminate bodily texture, not helped by the pixellated artstyle and block-based models✓
Said bodily texture - and, by extension, the texture of Sculk - is a matter of interpretation with no canon texture other than "corruption", and doesn't seem to be the cause of much conflict in the fandom; I have seen people drawing the Warden as slimy, furry, furless, and possibly even insectoid (I can't remember lol)×
Has both melee and ranged attacks✓
The melee attack deals either 16, 30 or 45 damage per hit depending on the difficulty, which - when compared to the player's health - can be impossible to survive without late-game items, and the ranged attack is a homing projectile that travels through walls and deals 10 damage (in Java Edition, which is the only one I care about); it also has 500 health×
Make your surroundings darker×
Dark-blue with white highlights×
Attacks if it hears you✓
An intentionally-difficult obstacle to incentivise sneaking around it, and only spawns under certain circumstances×
Fan-depictions make it a lot cuter-looking and friendlier✓
Shamblers:
Eyeless, with a single large mouth as their only facial feature✓
Thicc 'n' chonky✓
Some kinda eldritch nasties✓
Very expressively animated✓
Indeterminate bodily texture, not helped by the low-res, unfiltered textures and incredibly low-poly models✓
[Insert way-too-long summary of the Quake fandom's decades-long "fur vs. skin" debate; the former seems more popular - and it's also the one I personally support - despite the latter being the official explanation]×
Have both melee and ranged attacks✓
Actually have two melee attacks, specifically a claw-swipe and a ground-smash, that deal 80 or 120 respectively; the latter of which can be lethal, but only if you aren't overcharged, wearing any colour of armour or under the effects of the Empathy Shield, Pentagram of Protection or Power Shield powerups; meanwhile, the ranged attack is a beam that only hits one spot at a time, can be dodged easily, can be cancelled by leaving the Shambler's view, and deals 10 damage per hit; it also has 600 health×
Have no bearings on your surroundings, other than taking up space I guess×
Off-white with dark-red highlights (although do note that the Warden was originally supposed to have a similar colour-scheme according to its concept art)×
Attacks if it hears you✓
Fairly-standard enemies that first appear in either the third or fifth level of the first episode (not counting secret levels), depending on the difficulty×
Fan-depictions make them a lot cuter-looking and friendlier✓

Tell me your answers to every question >:3c (you know who this is nerd)
I AM LATE BUT YES I KNOW WHO THIS IS
(Ask game in question)
1. What level do you usually play on?
Despite having nearly 900 hours logged into this game, most of my saves are on radiant. I’ve started playing on darkest tho and it’s going smoothly so far!! Or as much as it can.
2. First building/amenity you maxed out?
Checking my achievements, I think it was the blacksmith. I always upgraded armor whenever possible at the start because I was nervous and thus played a bit defensively (I’m no longer nervous but now it’s just a habit)
3. Who was your first character to die?
My darling crusader Cheney. He got crit down to death’s door with a bleed by a collected highwayman and bled out when his turn came up. That’s what I get for not bringing adequate backline damage to a Collector fight //wheezes and cries but hey he lasted past week 100 so I did good keeping everyone alive until then :’3
4. Favourite character?
Since there’s a favorite class question too I’m just gonna,,,use my heroes. Anyway //grabs my jester Warci under the arms and holds him up like Simba
I could talk for hours about why I love this lad so much but I’ll summarize it with: comic relief with a gigantic heart ft. an overwhelmingly strong dad instinct and ceaseless love for his wife.
5. Favourite ship?
I’m a hoe for reymas but if we’re ignoring that???? Occultist/arbalest. They just work so dang well together that it kinda baffles me that we all seem to be sleeping on this gierosjg;ieosr (plus my occultist/arbalest pair are heckin. cute as heck)
6. Favourite class? Why?
I really like the jester because I’m a sucker for them clowns and them bards so I’m a mega sucker for them clown bards rosejgoigesr plus “jester therapy” has saved me so much dang money it’s unbelievable. Who needs stress relief when you have a clown with a lute
7. Boss that you absolutely hate?
The Hag can just heck RIGHT OFF tbh, if it wasn’t for how the brigand 32 pounder trophy is a staple for my houndmasters I wouldn’t even bother (she hasn’t killed anyone she’s just annoying)
8. Best quirks?
I really like luminous, corvid’s eye, natural swing, deadly, and quick reflexes, those are usually instant lock-ins on nearly anyone. Hard-skinned, fated, and steady are cool too. From there though it’s more about what class gets the quirk (I have eldritch hater and eldritch slayer on an occultist and it makes life fun)
9. Worst quirks?
//shakes my fist at compulsive and curious and the yips
10. Which area do you find the scariest? Which boss?
Area: CHAMP WARRENS CHAMP WARRENS OH GOD like the ruins are easy, the cove’s fun, and the weald’s annoying. The warrens are just scary and have been responsible for most of my hero deaths. I go there when I wanna feel the fear of god in me.
Boss: Either the Shambler or the Countess. The Flesh also kinda puts me on-edge but not nearly to the level of those two. I think the Countess wins out though because I’ve become more used to shamblers with how many times I’ve fought them by now.
11. If you could remove one negative mechanic from the game (ex- bleed) what would it be?
Idk if it counts but I’d remove how even if certain attacks miss their effect is still triggered (like a flagellant missing his exsanguinate giving him debuffs anyway or an ectoplasm’s cytokinesis missing and spawning an extra anyway). It’s so heckin,,,,ahgauhgu
12. Have you ever killed Vvulf? Be honest.
I’ve stomped all over him three times at this point. First time was so much of a wreck I wrote a fanfic of it, second time was easy, third time was just. An utter curbstomp. He didn’t stand a CHANCE-
13. Opinions on the Light/the religion of the setting? Headcanons?
Uhhhh I honestly haven’t thought about it much,,,I’ve just used it as a vague backdrop for character backstories. I don’t even really have any concrete opinions of it because funnily enough, my opinion tends to fluctuate depending on what perspective I’m writing from. So??? Yeah cop-out lame answer
14. Weirdest headcanon you have.
The Thing from the Stars works at Walmart
15. What would you name your heir?
The heir(ess) of each save has a different name. The heiress of my primary save is Catherine, the heiress of my secondary save is Genevieve, and the heir of my tertiary save is Jeremiah.
