I Have Become a Crow Friend.
It started because I commute to work on an e-scooter, and a couple of crows had started to fly along side me. I mean close, maybe two feet from from my face. I know this isn't unusual behaviour for a crow, but for me it's magical. I am flying with crows! I presume they're gliding in my wake and it's fun for them, because they started to do it every morning. I wanted them to know that I admire them and want good things for them, so I started to travel with a bag of unsalted, unshelled peanuts. When I got to the end of the road where they glide with me, I stop and leave some peanuts on the grass for them, and then I continue on my journey.
Well, they certainly know who I am now, and so does their extended family. They get my attention in a number of ways. Sometimes they will fly directly in front of my scooter, and I fear I'm going to hit them, but I don't, because they know what they're doing. They will fly in my eye line and land in a place where I can't miss them. There is one set of cousins down the road who thought shouting at me and waiting for me to come out of a building would be a good idea, but I did not reward that, and it hasn't happened since. They don't normally shout at me, they just flirt with me by flying with me, being beautiful in my presence, and giving me the eye. Then I give them treats.
One day I couldn't ride my e-scooter because of the weather so I walked my route. I traded my usual blue coat for a warmer red one with the hood up, and no orange helmet. I figured my crow friends would ignore me, since I am no longer a wheeled creature with blue feathers and an orange head. But no: they know who I am. They know the scooter is a vehicle that I ride, they know the coat and the helmet are things I'm wearing. My crow friends recognize my face. I know this totally normal behaviour for crows, but I am honoured by it nonetheless.
I always talk them. I greet them. I warn them about weather that's coming. I ask them how they're doing. My ultimate goal is to have them talk back to me, which I know they are fully capable of doing. And one day maybe the crows in this area will spot people walking alone in the woods and will shout out, "Hello, friend!" and freak them the fuck out. That's the kind of legacy I'm after. My quest continues.

drabble idea - javi and reader at some family/friends party before the kids, maybe engaged already and reader is holding a cousins baby or something. Javi isn’t with her and when he enters the room he’s awestruck. He already knew he wanted kids with her and a family but just seeing her bouncing the baby while laughing at something someone is saying just completely takes his breath away.

Baby
Amidst the lively chatter of a family gathering, Javier looks for you in the living room after having had a beer with his father outside on the terrace.
He passes by several tías who pinch his cheeks and compliment his choice of shirt to which he gives you the credit. They call him handsome, and he charms them back as if it’s the most natural thing in the world.
“No wonder you ended up with such a catch, Javi,” one of them says, referring to you. She nods in your direction but he still cannot see you for all the people having gathered in the tiny house, can’t hear your voice either in between bursts of laughter and screen doors opening and closing.
He starts to make his way in your direction, craving your gentle touch when he starts to feel overwhelmed by these kinds of things. On his way, he ruffles the hair of one of his nephews who shows him a stack of colorful football cards.
“Very cool,” he says genuinely as he looks over the boy’s shoulder. He hasn’t been home in so long that he isn’t up to date with the local team anymore, otherwise he would have mentioned that.
“I’m only missing a few of my favorite team,” his nephew replies excitedly and it earns him another hair ruffle. Javier continues through the crowd afterward.
There you are, he thinks to himself, and just when he is about to approach you, all the wind is knocked out of him because you are in the middle of a conversation, laughing at something that is being said, and you have Sofía, his cousin’s daughter, on your hip.
He stops in his tracks, freezing to the spot to watch you. At that moment, he knows that he wants to build a family with you. It becomes so clear as he observes you naturally talk to the baby on your arm, smiling widely down at her only to giggle when you receive a grin right back. He catches a glimpse of the future and the incredible mother you could be and on top of that, the incredible mother that he wants to make you.
It isn’t that he has never had the thought of starting a family with you before but seeing you navigate having a child in your arms so effortlessly makes him grasp how real and possible it is that it’ll one day be his child you are holding.
A few children run past him, shouting loudly as they chase each other and the noise pulls him out of his trance. All the other grownups have faded into the background, and it seems that his brain can only think of kids, bedtime stories, coloring books, and parent-teacher conferences. His head swims.
Even more so when the noise also makes you look up and catch his eye. You smile at him and it tugs at something in his chest. He needs to be close to you, taking longer steps than normal to get to you quicker.
“Hello fiancée,” he says when he approaches and kisses you softly. You say hello back but seem busy staring down at the baby in your arms. He turns his attention to the little bundle of joy, reaching out to twist the soft hairs on top of her head until it is standing up in a spiral, “Y hola a tí, Sofía, ¿Cómo estás? (And hello to you, Sofía. How are you?)”
Sofía gurgles at getting further attention. She swings her little fists.
“Your cousin just asked me if I could take her for a moment,” you explain with a shy smile, bouncing Sofía on your hip. She smiles widely up at you, squealing with delight as you make a face at her, “And you are so cute, aren’t you? Oh, look at her little tuft of hair.”
Javier adores you. He watches Sofía reach out for your earring, trying to yank on it and you grab her little hand but never once look irritated. Instead, you let her hold onto your fingers instead and say something gentle again.
“We should make one,” he announces quietly so only you can hear it, leaning closer to you to keep the conversation private. You look up immediately but still tickle at Sofía’s tiny palm.
“A baby?” You ask with wide eyes. It’s a little louder than you intended, and a few heads turn to look at you. You lower your voice, clearing your throat at first, “A baby?”
“Sí, mi amor (yes, my love),” he snakes an arm around your back to rest his hand on your hip, “A dozen of them actually.”
“We’re getting married next year,” you tut, shaking your head as if he is being ridiculous, “I’m not looking like someone who swallowed a soccer ball in my wedding dress.”
“You could wear an old football jersey and I would still marry you,” he kisses the side of your head, “¿Pero qué no (but why not)?”
“One thing at a time,” you say with a nervous chuckle. Then you shift Sofía in your arms, “Can you take her? I am so damn thirsty.”
“Sure, bring her here,” he holds out his arms, “C’mere, Princesa (princess).”
The transfer is so smooth that one would think you have done it before. He gets a tiny hand in his face, Sofía feeling his cheek.
“Be right back,” you say with a sweet smile, “Both of you.”
One thing at a time, you said. However, with the way you turn back to watch him with Sofía in his arms as you head for the drinks table, he knows that this is what you want too.

Karasuno, Nekoma and Seijoh:
Miss Manager and the Mystery Man
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Karasuno x Fem! manager; Nekoma x Fem! manager; Seijoh x Fem! manager
Warnings: jealousy, mostly fluff
AN: this is a request, I kept it kind of generic and mostly platonic
Karasuno
Most chaotic reaction goes to Karasuno 🏆
It happens at nationals
The team is brimming with excitement and nervousness as they prepare to take on Inarizaki
You, on the other hand, are relatively calm
You know your boys and how talented each and every one of them is
There’s no doubt in your mind that they will win
While they stretch, you mindlessly jot down things to remember, stats you want to collect
“YN is that you?” A voice rings from behind you as you turn to see your cousin standing right there
“Omg hi!! It’s so good to see you!” You bellow in excitement as you quickly leap into his arms from a big hug
The team is watching, utterly confused
Why are you hugging this person? Why is this person a man??
They instantly go on guard
Tanaka and Noya are growling low
Suga and Enoshita watch with narrowed eyes
Kageyama isn’t even paying attention let’s be real 😅
Asahi is concerned
Kiyoko is all smiles because she knows who the man is and is happy for you
Hinata looks confused, as does the rest of the team
Daichi narrows his eyes, but decides to approach
“Uhh hey YN, who is this?” He questions, guard up but still giving the stranger the benefit of doubt
Of course, that is before Hinata jumps in and says
“Is this your boyfriend Yn??” He screeches as the entire team stops
Some hold their breath, others just stand there
And some, well some freak out
“Who the heck do you think you are city boy??” Tanaka provinces, getting right into said city boys name
“Some guy who apparently thinks he’s good enough for OUR YN!” Noya shouts, only encouraging Tanaka
Poor Yachi is standing there, no idea how to react
You just stand there, rolling your eyes because of course this is the conclusion they would come too 🙄
You quickly stand in front of your cousin, pushing the two one brained celled teammates back
“This is my cousin! He lives far away and I don’t get to see him often!” You shout
The team instantly relaxes
Daichi quickly grabs Tanaka and Noya, whose mouths gape at the realization and apologizes
“Sorry about this,” he says to you and your cousin
Your poor cousin is probably scared for life 😂
But deep down you don’t mind, you know the team love and care for you
Nekoma
Chillest team? Definitely not 😂
Today was a beautiful day for a run
Of course, your enthusiasm wasn’t shared by all teammates involved
See example 👉🏻 Kenma
But nevertheless the team needed to work on their endurance
Normally you wouldn’t go with them, opting to stay behind and fill water bottles or chat with the coaches
But lev and Yamamoto had been begging you to go so you figured why not
You didn’t exactly hate running (only god knows why) so you thought it would be a great team bonding activity
Per the usual Yamamoto is leading the pack, followed behind Kuroo and Yaku who are silently racing
Kai, Fukunaga, Lev and Inuoka trail behind
And last but certainly not least, is you and Kenma
While you and Kenma run, you talk a little but mostly Kenma tries not to die
Then you see him
As he approaches, you make sure it’s actually him before freaking out
“Omg Hi!” You screech, as Kenma looks from you to the mystery man who is now stopping and smiling back at you
“Hey YN, how are you?” He asks as Kenma continues to stare, taking advantage of the break but still wondering who this man is
Could it be your boyfriend?
By now the rest of the team has stopped and are quietly observing
No one does anything yet, at least not until the mystery man goes in for the hug
“Whoa whoa who the heck do you think you are?” Yamamoto quickly jumps in, halting the man’s movements
“Excuse me?” The man says before stopping and looking at you like you can control these guys 🙄
Then Kuroo and Yaku step up to the plate 🙄 because why not
“This is our manage dude, better back off!” Yaku snarls as Kuroo just smirks
“Yaku don’t be mean to the man, not like he has anything remotely close on us,” Kuroo sneers as the man looks so utterly confused
Kenma is definitely recording this whole thing because he knows something’s up
You just stand there unimpressed
“Guys will you knock it off! This is just my cousin! He lives here but I don’t see him much because he’s in college!” You shout as all the guys freeze
“Cousin??” Some say
“In college?” Others chime
“I’m so sorry about them,” you apologize, “they all share a braincell and it seems it’s not made an appearance yet today!”
Your cousin looks from you to them before speaking, “it was nice to see you Yn, I gotta head out.”
Your cousin quickly jogs away before he has to deal with anymore crap
“Do you guys have one ounce of chill in you?” You grind out
“Sorry YN,” they all say in unison
But you can’t be mad at them for long and soon you are back enjoying your run with your boys
Seijoh
Definitely the most jealous
It’s the interhigh tournament and you are busy filling water bottles for the team
Usually one of the boys would accompany you but coach needed them for a quick meeting
And your an independent woman, you can handle yourself
As you fill, someone comes besides you and taps your shoulder
“Hey Yn, long time no see!” The guy says as your face lights up and you hug him with all your might
You haven’t seen your cousin in ages, despite living in the same prefecture
“Hey how is it going? I see your team made it to interhighs. Congrats!” You say as you carry on a nice a sweet conversation
But that’s not what it looks like from afar
Because you see, a certain second year setter spots you and quickly runs to tattle on you for having any contact with boys outside the team 🙄
“Some guy is hitting on Yn!” Yahaba screams at the team as Makki, Mattsun, Iwaizumi and Oikawa RUN towards you
Mad dog, Watari, Kindaichi and Kunimi are calm about it but still head out to see what’s happening
Before you know it, your engulfed in a squeezing hug by Oikawa who is glaring at your cousin
“My YN back off!” He shouts as Iwaizumi smacks him upside the head
“What are you doing with our YN?” Makki probes as your cousin seems to be completely and utterly confused
“Umm I was just talking with her,” he says as you try and wiggle out of the caged arms of Oikawa
“Just talking?” Mattsun glares as you quickly make your way through the tall players
“He’s my cousin!” You shout as Mattsun, Makki, Iwa and Oikawa all go stiff
In unison they all say, “cousin??” And look back and forth from you to your cousin
“Yes and I was just talking with him about you guys!”
“Awe you were talking about me YN-Chan??” Oikawa squeals as Iwa again smacks him
“I’m so sorry about them,” you say before budding yourself cousin farewell and pushing the team away
“Sorry YN,” they bellow in unison again as you roll your eyes
Try not to be too mad at them Yn 😂

Every little thing you do- Part 5
Tommy Shelby x reader
Series master list
I changed slightly what I already had written after reading someone’s comment on the previous part 🤭 I always love reading what you think, sometimes it even sparks an idea or two… 🥰
Word count: 3,213
Tumblr media
Y/N walked excitedly through the Shelby Company headquarters. She was granted with the permission to open the Shelby Institute, it was incredible how much Tommy’s contacts helped her speed up the process. Now she’d need to interview and recruit teachers, cleaning personnel, a couple of secretaries and enroll the children for the upcoming school year.
But as she got closer, Tommy’s shouting became clearer.
“Don’t fucking try to trick me, Lizzie.” He warned.
Then Y/N flinched when Lizzie raised her voice. “What’s your fucking problem then? If I sleep with Angel, his father or his cousin it’s none of your business!”
“Of course it’s my business!” He exploded. Anger raising at the thought the Changrettas getting sensitive information from his secretary, Lizzie had a big mouth when she wanted to. In more ways than one. “How much is Changretta paying you?”
“So you can choose who I sleep with,” Lizzie spat, “but you are covering Y/N’s pregnancy and treating her as if she was a Shelby!”
She was now able to understand all the secrecy around Tommy’s confident, why suddenly everyone wanted to make sure she was alright, why she was around more frequently. The thought of Y/N fulfilling all the dreams that belonged to her, made Lizzie go mad.
What was happening with the Changretta family? Y/N wondered as she overheard the heated exchange coming from Tommy’s office. The last thing she knew about them was when Danny Whizzbang was falsely killed in front of the Italians. But that was a few years back.
“I know her parents kicked her out.” Y/N heard Lizzie again. “What? You thought I wouldn’t find out? So now you’re pretending to be the perfect little family?”
That’s why Scott disappeared overnight. Lizzie wondered for how long they’ve been fooling everyone.
“Since when do I have to give you explanations, ey? You’re not answering me! What have you told Angel about us?” His hands shook her shoulders abruptly.
“Oh please! Don’t give yourself that much importance, the last thing we do is talk about you. And you don’t have the right to question my decisions, when you’re supporting Y/N and her bastard.”
That last statement was enough for Y/N to feel her blood boiling.
“Repeat that in my face. I dare you.” She opened the door with such force that it slammed against the wall behind. Lizzie paled.
Tommy recognized that look, he barely had time to react and intercepted Y/N midway.
“Y/N calm down.”
“Don’t tell me to calm down!” Y/N shouted, if it wasn’t for Tommy she would’ve already slapped Lizzie. “I’m tired of this, everybody thinks they can call my child bastard just because I’m not married.” She had to bite her tongue to stop her from telling a truth or two to Lizzie. She rarely got angry but once she did, there was no going back.
“Lizzie get out, I don’t want to see you.” Tommy barked as he tried to help Y/N to sit down. Then he realized they had an audience outside his office. “What are y’all doing there?! Go back to work!”
Once he had her settled on the couch, he offered Y/N a glass of water.
“Don’t let her words sink in. It’s bullshit.” He tried, but Y/N was still altered.
“She from all of the people, dares to point her finger at me.” Y/N said sarcastically and rolled her eyes. “And just because I thought Scott was-” she trailed off.
“You’re much better without him, you know that right?” Tommy crouched down, to be at her level.
“Will this ever stop?” Y/N’s voice cracked by the end, emotions at its highest.
“I’ll shoot anyone who dares to say anything like that again.”
His hands tried to calm her trembling fingers. His words managed to earn a small smirk from her, Tommy’s words managed to make her feel better momentarily. But she couldn’t help but wonder for how long she’d be able to deal with comments like that. She’s need to create a shell around her, a thick skin as Ada had told her. Give zero fucks about others people’s opinions.
“It’s like I’ll have it tattooed in my forehead for the rest of my life.”
“What the hell happened?” John demanded to know.
“Get some men to follow Lizzie, she’s been seeing Angel Changretta and we don’t know what kind of information she’s been giving them.”
“Ah the brat!” John made an annoyance face and stormed off.
To try to calm the anger raising, Tommy poured himself a glass of whiskey, not wanting to snap at Y/N for the previous altercation with Lizzie.
The Italians had always give him and his people a bad blood, they thought they were better than anyone else. And in the long run, a relationship between his secretary and one of the Changrettas would bring him more problems than good. Lizzie knew way too much about the business, he couldn’t just fire her.
He needed to find a loose end, something to stop them, to show his power over the Italians. He needed a plan…
Love and sex are a dangerous thing, people get blinded by it and he could’ve a snitch under his nose, he needed to be more cautions with the people he hired and make it clear the unwritten rules and conditions to work for him.
“I should’ve told you sooner.” Y/N mumbled, feeling guilty.
“You knew?” The frown on his brow intensified.
“Not exactly, but one day she started making weird comments about a date and her love life and oh this incredible man…” Y/N shook her face. “I thought she was just bluffing.”
“Yeah you should’ve. But it doesn’t matter now…” he trailed off going for a glass of whiskey, it was still early but he felt like a lion in a cage.
Y/N noticed the way his mind was working, already anticipating to endless possible scenarios and outcomes. Then he paused to rest his arms against a chair and let his head hang loose. The straps of the holster tightened around his shoulders and back, his muscles flexed under the shirt.
“Are you jealous?”
Tommy’s head snapped at Y/N’s words. Taking him by surprise.
“As if you didn’t knew me, you from all of them.” Tommy scoffed, but his eyes softened. “Really? You think I’d be jealous for Lizzie?”
Y/N blushed embarrassed for asking something so intimate. It wasn’t her business.
“Forget I said anything.” She looked in the opposite direction.
“Look at me.” Tommy pleaded with a deep voice. “Lizzie… is not the type of woman that would make a man jealous.” How could he say it nicely? Lizzie was a whore, he didn’t judge her though… But he tried to be cautious with his words.
It took Y/N a moment to register what Tommy meant. But she got the hint wrong. “I get it… just like me, right?”
Mortified, Tommy placed his hands on her shoulders. “No, no that’s not what I was trying to say.” The last thing he wanted to was to hurt her.
“Sure.”
“Y/N…” Tommy whispered, using his forefinger to tilt her head up. “You’re different.”
“The only difference is that she gets paid.” Y/N shuddered, accepting her new reality.
“That’s not true and you know it.” He was too close for her to smell his aftershave and cologne.
His thumb caressing softly her chin.
Shaking her head, she took a step back, but the bold movement made her feel dizzy, her head started spinning.
“What is it?” He asked with worry. “Are you alright?”
Y/N let him guide her to the closest chair. “Yes, it’s just this dizziness, it will go away in a minute.”
But despite Y/N’s efforts to calm him down, Tommy got worrier by the minute.
“Do you need anything?” He eyed Y/N, trying to read her expressions.
“No, thanks.”
“Y/N tell me what I can do for you.” Tommy kneeled before her.
The way he showed her that he genuinely cared about her, melted her heart. Having Tommy’s support meant to her more than words could express.
“I swear I’m fine.”
“Are you feeling poorly?” Polly stepped into Tommy’s office.
“She got dizzy.” He answered for Y/N, looking at his aunt.
“I’ll make you some tea.” She announced before giving Y/N a gentle squeeze on her arm. “Keep her with her head up until it pases, then bring her to the house, I need to speak to you.”
Polly’s look didn’t go unnoticed by Tommy.
He knew those eyes and something was happening, and judging by the look in them it had to be serious.
“I just came to tell you that you can set now the date to open the Institution as soon as we get the personnel.” Y/N announced with her eyes still closed.
“That’s the best news I’ve heard today.” The smile he gave her, was inevitable. “Can I help you with anything?”
“I don’t think you want to go through the interviews and stuff.” Y/N raised her eyebrows at him.
“No.” Tommy answered bluntly.
“That’s what I thought.” She gave him a smile that made him notice something else in her features, something that she didn’t have before, or at least he haven’t noticed… until now.
“Okay so you can sign those papers for me so I can go and sort this out?”
Tommy took the folder and placed his signature on the papers without even reading it. “You’re not taking off my money right?” He joked, the light mood in his voice mirrored in his eyes.
“Absolutely how do you think I’ll feed this baby?” She kept the joke going, feeling a bit better.
“Let me know how this goes.” He saw Y/N take her belongings and the papers. “Y/N how about a party to raise funds for the project? The school needs funding.”
Y/N ran her hand on the door thinking about it.
“A… fancy party?”
Tommy nodded. “With waiters and champagne and shit.” He had access now to the elite members club, people with enough money in their accounts to end poverty but selfish enough to not give away a single coin.
“Could you organize it?” He asked hiding his hands in his pockets.
“Yes, I can do that.” Excitement made her skin tingle, she had never been to a party like that, only once when Lady Winchester requested her to be by her side, but her place was to be back in the shadows, not as a guest.
“You’ll need a dress then. And some fancy shoes too.”
A dress! He had said a dress! She couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought of it, she, a no body getting all dressed up to attend a rich people gathering while several weeks pregnant.
“You must not spare on anything, alright? I’ll give you a blank check so you can arrange all of it.” He explained proudly. His dreams finally materializing.
Y/N took in his success, all of the things he ever wanted, he never stopped, never complained. No, instead he focused on finding a way to do all that would take him to where he wanted to be.
His hard work and intelligence was admirable. He never relied on excuses. And despite what everyone might think of his imposing presence, he had a heart of gold and a genuine interest to help.
“Tommy?” Her soft voice pulled him out of his daydream. His blue eyes fixed on hers. “I’m so proud of you.”
She didn’t know how much her words meant to him. How he’d treasure and savor their taste… Y/N was the only person that saw him crying over his mother’s grave, she had been the one who helped him to be a part of the man he used to be when he got back from France, she heard him talk for hours of the horrors he had seen. And now she was helping him materialize his dreams, but in a very subtle way because she wasn’t impressed or interested in the luxury he could afford, she didn’t assume he’d give her everything, no, she wanted to work hard by herself to earn it. She wasn’t accepting anything more than what she thought was fair.
In a world where he could easily get confused and loose sight of what really matters, she was keeping him grounded.
Tumblr media
“Do you want to have dinner in your office?” Y/N asked Tommy as she found him in the hall.
After looking at his clock, he guarded it safely again in his pocket, trying to keep his nerves at bay, he had a secret meeting with Churchill in a desert road, he wanted to share some more instructions about the upcoming deal with the Russians and not having total control over when and how things would happen was driving Tommy mad. This was a very delicate matter and the slightest mistake could get them all murdered in a heartbeat.
“No, actually I’ve to go.”
Touching her arm and giving her a gentle squeeze, Tommy asked her to be safe before walking outside. His vehicle roared as he exited the property and Y/N found herself eating alone in the huge dining table.
For her own safety it was better if Y/N didn’t get involved in this. Russians simply didn’t care about anyone, they were fucking mad. He had been actually considering asking Y/N to go somewhere else safe, but knowing her the way he did, she’d take it badly, as if he was trying to get rid of her.
Y/N glanced at the window, it was dark. But she knew it wasn’t her place to ask anything else. Where could he go at this time of the night? With who?
As much as her bond was so close to Tommy, she needed to realize they weren’t stitched or glued to each other and Tommy generally was extremely reserved about his private affairs.
Being alone made Y/N feel miserable and sad, her whole days were filled with lots of people at the Shelby Company Ltd, or the tea time with her grandma at the Garrison or the moments she shared with Tommy once they arrived at Arrow House. So now being by herself it felt so different…so lonely.
“Mary could you please prepare a tea for me?” Y/N asked politely after finishing her dinner.
“I only serve Mr. Shelby ma’am.” The maid added before walking away.
In a few words, she made very clear that Y/N’s presence wasn’t as welcomed as she thought. And her loyalty was reserved for her master, not his unwelcome guest. So without another word, Y/N picked up her dirty dishes and brought it downstairs.
“Miss Y/LN what are you doing?” Asked one of the maids as the chef wiped his hands with his apron.
“I’m going to wash these.” Y/N stated firmly, voice close to break after the humiliating moment she went through with Mary.
If things were as they should be, Y/N would be working under Mary’s supervision.
“Absolutely not, let me handle this.” Gently, the maid retrieved the items and gave the pregnant woman a look. “Can I help you with anything else? Some desert?”
Y/N shook her head. “No, thanks. Where’s the kettle?” She asked instead. This place was huge and there was a walk-in pantry and everything was organized meticulously.
“This is because of Mary right?” Y/N fixed her eyes on the young girl. “What did she do?” But then she placed her hand on her lips, as if trying to say she messed up. “Apologies I shouldn’t have.”
“No, it’s fine… it’s not like I’m Mrs. Shelby.” She sighed and twisted nervously the bow at the front of her blouse. “She reminded me of my place in this house, that’s all.”
The young maid exploded. “She thinks she’s better than the rest of us, just because she’s in charge of everything.”
Y/N studied her features, noticing her reaction was genuine.
“She’s always criticizing the way I do my job, it’s never good enough. And Mr. Shelby doesn’t even care…”
“I know this isn’t my business.” The chef caught her attention. “But she had been complaining about you to every member of the staff, she doesn’t understands why she has to attend you and do things for you when you’re not married to Mr. Shelby.” Duncan explained as he cleaned the stove.
“Oh I’ve heard her plenty of times too, you should talk to Mr. Shelby.” The kind maid suggested.
But Y/N shook her head and thanked the woman for preparing a tea for her. “No, I’m not here to cause Tommy more trouble. And he needs Mary to take care of everything.”
All of this was because Mary had very inflexible thoughts about premarital sex, she was always murmuring “this offends the Lord… or Lord forgive them for that.” So with Y/N being pregnant and living with a man without being married, this was a sin. Y/N was a sinner and in her eyes, she didn’t deserve even a bloody cup of tea.
“Thanks for the tea and the company. I’m sure Tommy wouldn’t mind if you got to have some rest early, all the chores pending can be done in the morning.” Y/N gave them both a smile and rushed upstairs to her bedroom.
The place was huge and she made sure to lock her door, a constant fear of some intruder breaking into the mansion made her feel uneasy. Tommy had a bunch of enemies after all, they wouldn’t care about harming her or her baby just to get to Tommy.
It was too late now to regret anything, it wouldn’t change the course of things. But sitting on the ottoman by the window, she let her mind wander to think of her baby, to imagine if would it be a girl or a boy?
She wondered how would it feel the kicks and her baby would like to hear her singing a lullaby to sleep. Polly already warned her that she’d buy a stroller and a crib for when the baby is born and her grandmother was already knitting some shoes and a blanket. Esme promised to give her a box full of clothes of all sizes so she could choose what to keep, each gesture kept touching her heart, to realize how generous they all were to her, never making her feel bad or unwelcome. She would make sure to let her baby know of all the love that surrounded them even before the birth.
Y/N knew that sometimes blood means nothing sadly, but life always brings a good group of people to replace the others.
But thankfully her baby would’ve lots of arms to cuddle on and a loving chosen family to rely on.

Also, Happy Valentine’s day!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes you loved your dear friend Daphne and other times you didn't, right now for example, you don't.
Honestly you don’t know how this got brought up (again) but you’d wish she would stop; it’s not going to happen even if she wants you to officially join her family.
You knew her being the first to marry out of the two of you was going to lead to more of her shenanigans, but this was too much for you.
You sigh, setting your cup down to look her in the eyes, “I have no plans on being in this season.”
Her shoulder sagged, “I understand that but-”
“But, nothing. Daphne, I am more than content with my being staying very much untied to a man. If I happen to meet someone worth it, you’ll know.”
-
Anthony glances over in your direction and his mind goes elsewhere.
You’re his sister’s best friend who also became Benedict’s best friend soon after you met the rest of his family.
He isn’t particularly upset at the fact that you’ve managed to befriend his siblings (slightly better than he could) but, there’s something that keeps bringing a certain idea to the front of his mind.
“Are you going to take your turn or continue staring?” Benedict asks.
The eldest shrugs off his brother’s comment.
Anthony uses the dreaded “death mallet” and once again, manages to pass the others.
-
Daphne heads towards her siblings before they can scream and shout at her for sitting down instead of taking her turn.
You sigh, shoulders sagging because you know she means no harm; you know that but, you can’t force yourself to love and care for someone you don’t have feelings for.
You’d never admit it (out loud or to her) but there are nights where you do wonder how it would be if you did get married to someone you loved.
The concerning part is how her brother sneaks into your mind; not your closest friend, Benedict, or the third oldest, Colin, and of course not, Gregory.
No, Anthony is the one to invade your mind and corrupt your dreams with his charming smile and smooth movements.
And you would never dare tell Daphne or your cousin of your thoughts; no matter how hard she tries to convince you he feels something for you.
You take a deep breath, returning your focus onto the game only to meet a pair of oak brown eyes gazing upon you.
You tear your gaze away at the sounds of Violet walking down the stairs, carrying a smiling Augie in her arms earning a smile from you as you observe the happy baby.
You glance towards her and offer a polite smile, giving her a moment to settle down in the free chair before turning to focus on the young babe. “Hello, Augie,” you greet him with a baby tone and shake his chubby fingers.
“He’s always taken with you,” Violet comments.
“I am the one who always manages to search for his mother when he cries for her. Sometimes I believe myself to be a dog.”
She chuckles, “that’s not it.”
“Why else would he like me?”
“You have a natural instinct that he senses. Children know these things.”
“If that’s what you say.”
Daphne steps away from the others, wanting to see her child. “She is right, you know.”
“Not you too,” you groan.
“You will make a fantastic mother.”
“Someday.”
“It could happen sooner than one would think.”
“What are you planning?”
“Nothing.”
Anthony stares back at you once more, observing the way you interact with his dear nephew. As he searches for someone to call wife, his most secretive thoughts keep coming to mind. The more he searches and the longer you stay, the more he finds himself wondering.
His mother continues to help him in his search for a wife albeit reluctantly since she finds herself so fond of you. She’d never explicitly tell him to pursue you but, she could always kindly ease him into the right direction, which is when his disbelief comes to the surface, truly believing you to feel nothing for him.
He knows if he tried to pursue you and it fell through, he will have ruined a lifelong friendship for his family- as he watches Daphne hold her purple mallet for you to take- he realizes he can’t pursue you.
Not that he’d ever given it any real thought, but he’d never be able to forgive himself if he was the reason, you stopped coming by.
You shake your head.
She puts it in your hand, persuading you into taking her place so she can attend to Augie.
You step down from the seating area with little energy.
His sister offers encouraging nods.
“I see you finally came to join us,” comments Anthony.
You avoid his gaze- you can barely stand beside him. “Not like I wanted to,” you reply.
“You’re scared to lose?”
You scoff, turning to look up at him, “that is not what I said.”
He smirks, leaning closer to you, “you didn’t have to.”
You narrow your eyes at him, “we’ll see who’s laughing when I win.” You walk away, taking your turn. You’re satisfied until you sense him behind you.
He follows you, “for someone who didn’t want to play earlier, you’ve certainly found your spirit.”
“Or was it a trick?” You smirk, glancing at him when the ball rolls through the metal hoop with ease. “You look nice,” you comment, turning around to walk away.
Anthony’s brows furrow together, his body takes over as he steps closer to you, standing beside you. “What do you mean?”
You turn, struggling to find the right words without sending the wrong message. “I only meant you look nice. You know, people- people can actually see your face now.”
He continues to stare at you.
“Your sideburns were nice but it- they- people may have assumed you grew them to hide what lies in your heart.”
“And what do you think lies there?” The words escape him before he could process his thoughts.
“I believe the love for your family and future wife is there, along with the care and compassion you hold for them. I do have to admit, I am a bit glad you shaved.”
He tilts his head, “and why is that?”
“I was afraid you would have continued growing them and at some point, they would connect,” you use both hands the gesture from your sideburns to your upper lip, “and you would look as though you were wearing a mask of sorts,” you say with one hundred percent seriousness until you think about it and snicker, covering your face with your hand.
Anthony is also unable to keep himself collected and joins in. He straightens his posture, “what of you?”
You take a deep breath, fanning yourself. "What of me, for what?”
“What do you think lies in your heart?”
“The same as you, I suppose. Love and compassion for my family and the few friends I have.”
“What about me?” He asks before he can stop himself.
“What?” You don’t know what to think.
“I-” He walks past you, placing his mallet back into place before exiting, wandering to the garden. He needs to get as far away from you as he can in order to clear his mind.
You don’t understand what’s happened and place your mallet beside his before chasing after him.
-
He stares at you, half listening to you and his attention moves elsewhere.
“Are you even listening to me?” You stare at him, wanting to understand him. You’re too into your thoughts to hear the faint buzz.
The noise sends a shiver down his spine, he knows the noise too well; his nightmares (if he can remember any) always start with the faint buzz.
He doesn’t move as he searches for it. Sadly, for the eldest child, he doesn’t have to search for long as the small, striped animal floats around you. He prays to whoever is listening to hear his silent prayers for it doesn’t sting you; he can’t lose someone else to the blasted creature.
“Anthony?” You ask, glancing down when you feel something land on you. You realize why he can’t look away. “Hey, it’s alright.”
He can’t focus on your words, his mind rattled with the memory of his late father. “Don’t move,” his voice is low and shaky.
“I know, it’s a bee but, it won’t hurt me as long as I-” you close your eyes due to the discomfort you get from the sting, and it sends him into a whirlwind. “I’ll be alright,” you say, still trying to reassure him. You open your eyes to see how pale he’s gotten.
He invades your personal space, grasping onto your arms. “Are- are you-” He glances back and forth between your face and your wound. His voice is low, far too low for you to understand what it is he is trying to say but you swear you hear him mutter something along the lines of, “don’t move'' repeatedly.
You know you must calm him down before he can do anything. You reach for him, placing a hand on his cheek, forcing him to look at you. “Breathe, Anthony. I need you to breathe.”
He can’t say anything, almost as if he’s choking on air. Images of his father invade his mind, filling him with worry and dread.
You can see he is close to tears. Your voice draws him out of his thoughts. “I promise you. I hope you know I wouldn’t lie to you. I’m fine but I will still have a doctor come and look at it so that it may heal properly. I’m right here. I’m here with you.”
Anthony’s hands grip your biceps, he notices how swollen the sting site has become.
“It stung me, but I am not hurting. This has happened before. I will be fine.”
None of your reassurances are having any effect on him.
The image of his father taking his last breath in his mother’s arm is enough to make lean in to suck the venom out.
“Anthony?! What are you-” You cut yourself off at the feeling of his shaky hands trying to remove the stinger. “Anthony, you must stop.”
“Shut up,” he hisses, trying to stay focused on keeping you healthy (and alive) while fighting to keep his father’s death out of his mind.
You take deep breaths, you try to push him away, but he is insistent and stronger than you. “I am fine, I just need to see a doctor and I-”
“Would you be quiet,” he finally lifts his head to look up at you.
You gulp, “I know- I know what tragedy has happened in your family but, today will not be the same for me.”
He doesn’t listen and continues to squeeze the area.
You gasp, eyes widening at the feeling of his hands being so close to your breast. This has gone too far; you must stop this before someone sees. “Anthony,” you place your hands on his chest to push him away once more.
“Stop it,” he shoves your arms off him. “Let me get rid of the venom.”
“There is a doctor who can do this and-”
“The doctor is not here. I am.” He stops squeezing when some liquid begins to spill out of the wound.
You look down, finding the trail of liquid, “see, you did it. Now, I am going inside to-”
Anthony pulls out a handkerchief, wiping away the trail. “It’s not all of it.”
You wrap your hand around his wrist, stopping him from patting you dry. “You must stop this, Anthony. If anything were to have happened, it would have happened already.”
“There is still more,” he mutters, staring at the irritated area.
“You need to stop.”
“I haven’t gotten all of it,” he turns, staring at you.
“Whatever it is you’re thinking of doing. Don’t.”
“I have to get the venom out before it kills you.”
“It won’t kill me-” you gasp, seeing the determination in him as he leans forward. You place your hand on his shoulder, keeping his head away but fail to remove his hand.
The click clack of women’s shoes against the rock pathway alerts you, but you feel as though you can’t move.
A gasp makes you turn to find his mother alongside your cousin, Mildred (Millie for short), staring at the two of you with shocked expressions.
Your heart rate increases and gain enough strength to fully shove him away from you, knowing how this looks.
He glances up at you with a confused expression.
“Anthony?” Violet calls out.
His brows furrow further, he looks over your shoulder, “mother?”
“What is going here?”
“She was stung by a- a bee.”
“A bee?”
“Yes, a bee. I’d told him repeatedly I was fine. I’ve dealt with being stung before,” you say, struggling to keep yourself together.
“You were stung by a bee and the boy found himself attached to you?” Mildred raises a brow.
“Don’t look at me like that, Millie.”
“I’m not, I’m wondering how you think this can be kept quiet.”
“Kept quiet?” You repeat quietly to yourself.
“Neither of us would repeat a word of what occurred today,” he argues.
“That doesn’t mean anything for a woman’s reputation,” Mildred says with an attitude.
“You do realize anyone could walk out here and spot the two of you, don’t you?”
He doesn’t say anything.
“Don’t you?”
He grits his teeth, “I do.”
“You should consider yourself lucky that it was us who found you and no one else, rake.”
“That’s enough now, Mildred,” Violet intervenes. “Let’s,” she takes a deep breath, “let’s go inside and talk about this further. Lady Starlington needs to be seen by a doctor.”
You can’t stand to be there any longer and turn away from him, walking past the two ladies and Anthony; your pace speeds up before you know it, you’re sprinting back to Audrey Hall.
Mildred sighs, “now what are we to do?”
“We will all walk back and discuss this,” Violet says.
“Of course, we are but, what am I to tell my parents? They’ll be curious to know why their niece’s name is in a Lady Whistledown column.”
Anthony grunts, taking a step towards the two. He passes by them and quickly announces, “we will marry before the end of the season.”
“Did he say what I think he did?” asks Mildred, watching his figure walk away with wide eyes.
Violet sighs, shaking her head, “I believe he did.”
“Did I do the right thing?”
The mother of the family stops, turning to face your cousin, “what do you mean?”
“I- I basically pushed themselves together into this potentially unhappy marriage. I know I sometimes I can’t keep my comments to myself but, I swear I had good intentions. It's just- when we came around the corner to see that I- I worry about her. I fear I may have ruined my relationship with the two.”
“I can’t give you an exact answer but, I can say that as long as you have your cousin’s interest and happiness in mind, the most you can do is hope for the best. They are both emotionally driven people, even if neither wishes to admit it. This will be hard for them, and it may be a test.”
“A test?”
“To see if they will make good of their marriage. You and I, as well as my other children, have come to realize how they connect with one another. They can’t see it for themselves but there is something there and now is the time for them to see it.”
“I suppose so. What if they can’t make it work?”
“Then I fear they will be in a miserable marriage.”
-
No one else disturbed you after the doctor left.
You sit at the edge of the bed, your vision blurs; you cover your mouth with shaky hands. You don’t want others to hear if they happen to be walking by. You cry, struggling to catch your breath.
Everything you’ve been feeling with the last few days is slowly escaping you. Your mother is requesting to visit and marriage situation with Anthony; it’s too much.
You take deep breaths, aiming to calm yourself down.
Maybe it would be better if you left and went home or maybe somewhere far from here.
A knock disturbs you from your thoughts.
You wipe your cheeks, hoping whoever it is will go away but fail as another knock comes through. You take a deep breath and open the door, “Viscount Bridgerton?”
He lifts his gaze off the floor, “what happened to Anthony?”
Any curiosity falls from your expression, “your making light of the situation?”
He shakes his head, “I would never.”
“I think you’ve done enough today. It’s almost time for bed.”
He takes a step closer to the door, his hand inches away from being crushed, “I,” he sighs, taking a step back, removing his hand from the door. “I have come to ask if you would have dinner with me.”
“With you?”
“I think it would be wise if we talked before anything becomes… official.”
“Now?”
“Are you going to use full sentences any time soon?”
“Why should I? Is it bothering you?”
“Nevermind that. Are you going to join me or not?”
“Will there be someone else there?”
He gives you a reluctant nod, “yes, your dearest cousin, Mildred.”
“I’ll be down in a moment. I will meet you there.”
“I’ll wait here.”
“Do you have to?”
“No but, I think it might be good practice for us.”
“Practice,” you mumble and shut the door. You walk over to the vanity, staring at yourself, wondering how you got into this situation. You snatch the extra handkerchief and pat your face, removing any evidence of your despair.
You take careful steps toward the door and exit, Anthony leaning against the wall across from your room. He holds his arm out for you to hold.
You shake your head.
“Don’t you think you’ve touched her enough today?”
He sighs, “Mildred.”
“Who else would it be?” She interlocks your arms together, pulling you ahead of the eldest Bridgerton. “Come on.”
-
“Do either of you know how to use it?” Anthony asks, staring at the stove.
Mildred shakes her head, “the maids are always around to do it.”
“Both of you sit down,” you say.
“Do you know how to work this?” he asks, sounding surprised.
“I do. It’s too late for us to have a full meal, instead we can have a glass of warm milk.”
They sit at the table in the corner of the room.
Anthony watches as you move gracefully around the kitchen.
“If you keep staring, she’ll catch you.”
He turns to her, “what?”
“You’re staring.”
“No, I wasn’t,” he denies.
“You can lie all you want but I know you care for her. Perhaps, you always have and never wanted to admit it before and the whole bee situation was a ruse so that you could stop being a ninny and marry her instead.”
His jaw drops, he doesn’t know how to respond. “I did not-”
She waves him off, “do not lie Anthony, I know you love her and have for some time now, only you must realize it now than later in your marriage. I do not want her… or you to be unhappy. Oddly enough, I seem to care for you but, obviously not the same way she does you.”
He scoffs through his nose, muttering to himself, “obviously.”
You place the glass of milk in front of the two, interrupting their conversation. “Don’t tell me you’ve decided to marry my cousin instead.”
Anthony nearly chokes on the liquid, setting the glass down and snatches the handkerchief you hold out for him.
He wipes his chin, “what makes you think I would want to marry, Mildred.”
She scoffs, “you’d be lucky to have me, Bridgerton.”
He narrows his eyes to her.
“I’ll be just outside this door, leaving the two of you talk and nothing else.”
You furrow your brows, “wait. Mil-”
She waves to you.
You take a deep breath, not wanting to face him.
It was different when he wasn't paying attention to you and rather his own life, but now... you hope he doesn't want to talk.
"We should- we should talk."
Everything in your screams to not run away and hide, even though it sounds like it would be the better option right now.
"How are you?"
"I would be happier if I was marrying for love and not because of your concern over my virtue," you mumble.
He overhears and sighs. “Don’t-”
“No, I understand. Truly I do, just- I need- it’s late. Apologies for keeping you up.” You grab the skirts of your dress and walk out.
Mildred watches as you run away. She spins around and stands in the doorway. “What did you do?”
“Me- I-”
She sighs. “Just shut up.”
He sighs and slumps in the chair. Mildred storms into the room after you.
-
“What happened?”
“Nothing.” You take a deep breath, hunched over your vanity.
“You know, you two act as a married couple who have known each other for too long and no longer know how to act lovingly around one another.”
“You are wrong, cousin. He is- he is the scum- the scum that rests at the bottom of my shoe. Why would I ever marry someone like that? Much less that Bridgerton, I mean, Colin would be a better option and I don’t like him as much as I do Benedict.” You keep your head down, “people marry for less.”
“I wish to marry for love, if it ever decides to come my way but until then I will deal with him marrying the only person, I care about that is close to my age.”
“So, you care enough about me to marry me off?”
“Don’t phrase it in such a way that makes me the bad guy,” she throws herself onto your bed.
“Go to bed. I will be fine, Millie.”
She props herself up on her elbows. “Are you sure?”
“I am. Please,” you look up and turn around, putting on a brave face. “I promise you. I will be fine.”
“If you’re sure-”
“Which I am. Goodnight, Millie.”
She sighs and steps outside of the room, “night.”
-
“Good morning.”
You don’t respond to Mildred.
“Are you ignoring me?”
“I am simply showing you the way my soon-to-be husband will treat me.”
“What do you mean?”
“It has already begun. I awoke early and decided I wanted to speak to him after thinking about it all. I say hi but he does not.” You shrug, "it doesn't matter now."
"It does though. Let me," she sighs. "Let me speak with him. I can- I can fix this."
"No," you say. “I don’t want you to be in the middle any more than you have.”
“Alright... now onto more pressing matters.”
“Such as?”
“Your plans for the wedding?”
“Oh, right.” You continue to stare out the window.
“Are you sure you're alright?”
“I just-”
Anthony stops himself from knocking on the door and decides to listen.
“I thought when I was to marry, I would marry for love not because I need my virtue protected or saved."
"If he didn't agree to this-"
"I would be a spinster."
"That is how I will live my life," Mildred grabs your hand and gains your attention.
Anthony takes his leave, unable to stay there any longer.
“That is not how I want you to live your life. I want you to be the one to have another you can call upon if there is something the matter because I won’t always be there and I need to know that you are protected before I leave.”
“You’re leaving?”
She sighs. “This isn’t how I wanted you to find out but yes. A week after you’ve been married, I plan on traveling the world.”
“Your childhood dream.”
“Precisely.”
"I- what if I'm not good enough to," you wave your hand around. "This."
"This what? I'm not sure I understand."
"What if- what if I am not fit to be a wife. I mean," you push yourself out of the chair and pace around the room. "I don't want him to be disappointed in the person he is to call wife. I don't want to be in a marriage of..."
"Regret?"
"Precisely."
She stops you by placing a hand on your wrists, “now is the time for us to plan your wedding. Violet and Anthony have been sitting in the tearoom since I came in here.”
“She’s- they’re- why didn’t you tell me?” You rush out the door.
-
You clean yourself up outside the door and nod to your servant, Bernard, to open the doors. You nervously smile at both.
Violet pops up from the chair closest to the window. “How are you?”
“Oh- uh- I’m,” you glance to the side and stare at her eldest, who locks eyes with you.
“I mean from the- well, you know,” she struggles to say.
You let out a breath of relief, “ah, yes. I do. I am- I am fine. I’m just happy that everyone else is fine.”
She smiles, “that is kind of you to say, but unnecessary.”
“I hear you came to talk about our upcoming… event.”
“Is that what Mildred told you?”
You furrow your brows, “is that not what you’re here to discuss?”
Anthony pushes himself off the couch. “Not yet. Mother, if you’d excuse us.”
“Anthony, I don’t-”
He gives her a look.
"We will be right outside this door."
"What did you want to discuss?"
"If we are to marry, we should have stipulations."
"You think I'll be so horrible that we need rules?"
"Not you. I believe if we have these, we'll have a better understanding of what should come from this marriage."
"Why don't I just stay by your side and show my face when you need me to so you can look like the perfect husband? Would that make things easier?"
He sighs. "That is one of the things we need to discuss, which events you'd prefer to come to."
"Oh, I get to choose those?"
"Please stop. I am trying to make this as easy as I can."
You clench your fists. "How am I supposed to be okay with this?"
“It’s my fault and I am trying to make up for that.”
You pause, “your fault?”
He nods, “yes, it was- it was me who... couldn’t.”
You step forward and place your hand on his, drawing his attention onto you. “It is not your fault when something so devastating comes to mind and you do all you can to prevent another. I do not blame you, but you must understand that I do not want to be one of those ladies.”
“Who?” The only word he can get out as he studies you.
Your compassion shifts into something of annoyance, one he knows too well. “You know who, someone who wants to be like Penelope’s mother or maybe even... all of the other ladies,” you chuckle, proud of the joke you made.
"I'm glad you can make jokes at a time like this."
You roll your eyes, "oh hush, I am still upset about pretending to be a perfect housewife for the one man every woman dreams of being with."
"Are you included?"
Your mouth agape as you stare at him.
"You two haven't maimed each other, perfect."
"Millie," you pinch the bridge of your nose.
"Oh, don't act so coy now."
You roll your eyes and sit down, waiting to hear what Anthony and his mother have to say. You pace along the floor, finding it to be quieter here than in the tearoom with the others, even if they weren’t talking it was still too loud. You know there’s no alternative for what’s transpired between you and your soon to be husband, but it still hurts knowing he will never love you the way-
“Are you alright?” Daphne’s voice draws you out of your thoughts.
You give her a small smile and hope she doesn’t poke further.
“I know this isn’t how it was supposed to happen but there is one good thing about your marriage.”
You scoff, “and what, pray tell, is that?”
“I finally can call you sister.”
You try not to show how happy that makes you, not wanting her to know she was right. “Thank you.”
She drags you over to the piano.
“I still don’t understand why you have many so pianos.”
She shrugs, “for moments like this, maybe?”
“Are you waiting for me to play?”
She nods, “of course, I am. You were always much better than I was.”
“I was not.”
“Show me then. Show me how awful you play, and I will not ask you again.”
You don’t know how long you had been playing for, but it was something you missed- not having a piano in your own home, you didn’t realize how long it had been.
You usually prefer to play when no one is watching but having Daphne by your side was nice, she always knew how to help calm you before things could get worse; everyone knew of your father’s temper, and no one wants to face that through his only daughter.
Anthony raises his hand to knock on the door but pauses as he listens, he doesn’t realize Daphne had learned a new piece. He slowly opens the door and finds you playing instead.
‘When did you learn how to play?’ He wonders.
Or maybe it was, you had always known, and he was too into his fantasies that he forgot to pay attention to the true version of you.
Just when he was hoping to learn something horrible about you; you’re becoming more and more like his...
“I didn’t know you played.”
You open your eyes and glance up at him, standing up as quickly as you can. “I don’t.”
He furrows his brows, “that’s not what I heard.”
“That- that was nothing.”
“Why are you lying?”
“I prefer to keep this information to myself so if you could kindly pretend you didn’t hear anything, that’d be best.” You exit the room, knowing you’ve left
Anthony in a wave of confusion. “What was that about?”
“She doesn’t like others to know of her talents because she knows they’ll ask her to perform one of them.”
“Her mother.” He finally understands.
“And her aunt.”
Now he truly gets it. "Is this what you two would do while I was out with mother?"
She shrugs and pushes the seat back. "Perhaps, or maybe you were never around long enough to learn about her even though you're entranced by her."
He stutters, unsure of where she could have gotten that idea. "What?"
She quickly hides her amusement before he can see. "Nothing. Goodnight Anthony."
He tries to stop her, but she ignores him, offering an excuse for needing to put Augie to bed. He wonders what else he doesn’t know.
You pace back and forth in front of his office door; this isn’t something you can do in person, is it? You sigh and wonder if it’s a wise choice to be doing this at all.
You slip the letter under his door and take a step back. “That wasn’t so hard.” You turn around and briskly walk down the hallway, hoping he doesn’t see that it was you who was there.
Something moving in the corner of his eye piqued his interest and moved closer to figure out what it was. He picks up the letter and opens the door, seeing someone’s figure turning the corner before losing sight of them.
He closes the door and opens the letter, wondering what you could have said when you’ve already said plenty.
Dear Bridgerton,
I I want to start off by apologizing for my outbursts, you don’t deserve them, and they are not aimed at you, but you happen to be the person I am talking to and... This is not how I expected the season to begin or end and I’m sure you didn’t either but if there is someone I were to marry, I’m happy it’d be you... because I trust you. I will do all that I can to be the perfect wife for you and if not, I apologize in advance.
Sincerely, Your annoying soon to be wife
The next day came, and you didn't know how to act.
You sit between Daphne and Mildred when he enters.
He sits in front of you and nods, acknowledging you, which you return.
The girls beside you don't know how to react, each staring at the other with a raised brow.
You two talked with his mother about the decisions for your wedding.
"Have you two discussed what you want?"
Anthony opens his mouth to answer but finds himself without an answer.
"Everyone will talk, and it will no doubt be in Lady Whistledown's column, but it would be preferred if we had a small ceremony, family only."
You don’t look up from your plate. Violet nods, listening intently. "I will use the dress my mother made when I was born, it'll save us time on getting a dress. The flowers can be your choice."
"And after?"
You turn to her, "it'd be smart to hold a small reception after all though it will increase because everyone will want to see who married the handsome and fortunate viscount."
You push yourself out of the chair. "I apologize but I realized I promised to spend time with the girls before we go out for our shopping trip."
"What just happened?"
"Have you two talked about anything regarding your wedding?" Violet asks her son.
"Every time we discuss something-"
"No, have you sat down and discussed what you two are to do? Who will be there? Anything that a soon to be husband and wife should discuss?"
His shoulders sag. "No."
"I want you to go in my place."
"What? Why?"
"It will give you two a moment to talk and prepare for the future hardships you two will face as a couple. Raise her spirits. She got a letter from her mother, saying she will not be able to attend. Perhaps that is why she is so uninterested today."
"She- how do you know?"
"I'm your mother, I know more than you would think."
-
Anthony waiting by the door frightened you. “Are you joining us?”
“I’m here in place of my mother.”
It takes you a few seconds to process what he said. “You are?”
He nods. “Shall we?”
You close your eyes and take a deep breath.
The failed whispering voices of the women around you, annoys you to the point where Anthony feels that he needs to do something. “Is there anything that has caught your interest?”
You shake your head.
“Let’s go. I know somewhere we can have a better time, away from the whispers of these women.” He leans in, whispering into your ear, “they’re jealous of you.”
You cover your mouth to hide your amusement, not wanting him to know he’s helping lift your spirits. You two exit the shop and return to the Bridgerton home. “Why are we back here?”
“We are going to have a drink.”
“With your family? Couldn’t we do that any day we wanted to?”
He holds his hand out for you to take, which you do. “Although that may be true, that’s not what I had in mind.” He places his arms behind his back, clenching his fist not wanting you to see the control you have over him. “We’re going to spend time in my office.”
“Oh? I’m invited in, I feel so special.”
“You should, very few are allowed in here, especially when I’m working.”
“Of course. The head of the house needs quiet or else.”
-
“I see going out has helped you.”
You watch as he fills the glass for you before grabbing it and swallowing it in one gulp. “You could say that.” You scrunch your nose at the sensation, maybe doing that was a bad idea.
He takes a seat in his chair.
“Could I ask you something?”
He nods, staring at you over the glass as he takes a sip.
“Did your mother inform of the one guest we won’t be seeing at our wedding?”
He slowly sets the glass down before returning his gaze to you. “She may have mentioned it.”
“Is that why you came with me today because she told you to and not because you wanted to?”
“She may have said she thought it was best if I take her place, but it was initially my choice to go.”
“You’re not lying?”
“What would I gain from lying to you?”
You sit up and reach for the bottle, filling your glass. “A relationship built on a lie.”
He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Are you trying to make this harder than it needs to be?”
“I can’t just- you can’t honestly expect me to ignore that we are marrying one another when you never wanted to marry and I hoped that when it happened, it’d be with someone who loved me.”
He’s out of his chair before you realize he’s now sitting in the chair beside you. “What will it take for you to stop saying that?”
“What?”
He leans in closer. “Why do you think I could never love you?”
“I-” You gulp. “You have spoken before that you never want to marry, what else am I to think?”
“How do you know I couldn’t change? What if something comes of this relationship?”
Your breath hitches and you continue staring him in his eyes. “I suppose we’ll have to cross that bridge if we get to it.” You set the glass down and rush for the door, “I’ll take my leave now. I’m feeling quite tired after our outing.”
He grabs your wrist, pulling you back in before you could open the door. “I’m sorry.”
“No, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have pressured you into answering my questions.”
“What if I enjoyed them?”
You turn to face him with a small smile. “Then I am concerned for your being.”
“Don’t worry about me.”
“Be honest, did you mother tell you about my mother is not coming?”
“No,” he shakes his head, but you know the truth.
“You don’t need to lie on order to preserve myself, it’s okay.” You sigh, “is it sad that a small part of me wishes for her to be there?”
“Not in the least. It’s natural for you to want your mother there-”
“It’s not because she’s my family, I just- I need her to stop pushing marriage onto me.” You pace back and forth, “this is my way to prove her wrong but that makes me feel worse because it makes me seem as though I’m being a bad daughter.”
“You’re not,” he disagrees with you. “That is anything but you being a bad daughter. If anything, she’s- she’s scared to lose her daughter to a new family because they know you will be starting a new life, away from her and that’s why she doesn’t want you to help.”
“But what if-”
His hand slides down your arm as if his hand lingering wasn’t enough to drive you mad, he tightens his grip on your hand.
You force yourself to focus on his words and not the warmth emanating from him.
“Stop. All the negative thoughts you have are not going to help you. But listen to this, you are a good daughter, and she should be happy to know her daughter will be taken care of. As long as you are a part of this family you will be taken care of and not have to worry about expectations.”
“I won’t,” you whisper, not meaning to. He shakes his head and gives a small smile. “I promise.”
He realizes he’s been holding onto you this whole time and his arm falls. “Can I walk you back to your room?”
You nod, ignoring the warmth flooding your cheeks. “I would like that.”
-
“Will I see you at breakfast tomorrow?”
“You will, and if I ask you the same question?”
He smiles, “I will be there.”
“Good, I think this is a good start to our future marriage.” You step inside the room.
“I am sorry.”
“What?”
“The marriage… and the reason we are to wed.”
“What do you mean?”
“I lost myself and-”
You shake your head, placing a hand on his chest over his heart. “I do not blame you for something as traumatizing as your father’s death. Please know that.”
“But-”
“Anthony Bridgerton,” you tell him using a stern tone. “Stop it. It may not have happened under the best of circumstances, but I am happy that I will be wed to you than some other man. I can at least trust you.” You step back into the doorway, slowly closing the door as you bid him goodnight.
He stands there, touching the spot where your hand was until he drops it, straining his hand as he fights to clench it.
-
Benedict and Colin happen to be there when he turns the corner.
“Quite a show you put on there,” the second eldest says.
“Yes, you’re whole “I’ll be the perfect husband” speech was wonderful,” the third eldest chimes in.
Anthony scoffs, “would you two quiet down?” He grabs them by their collars, dragging them into one of their miscellaneous rooms. “Why aren’t you two out?”
“How could we be out when you’re here?” Colin asks.
“Trying to woo the love of your life,” Benedict adds on.
“I’m not- you two are acting like children.”
“Us? Acting like children?” Colin starts, glancing at his brother.
“No,” the artist shakes his head, “I don’t think so.”
The soon to be married man glares at his brothers, unsure if he wants to listen further or not but if he doesn’t let them continue it’ll be worse in the morning. He pinches the bridge of his nose. “If I let you two continue, will you keep quiet in the morning?”
“Morning?” Colin turns to partner in crime. “What’s happening in the morning?”
The artist glances over his older brother and grins, “is the soon to be wed joining his family and future wife for breakfast?”
“With him being silent, I’m going to say yes.”
“Finally, you agree with me.”
“I agree with you,” the third eldest argues.
“I don’t recall.”
“Okay, now that you two are done, I’m going to bed.”
“To dream of your wife.”
“She looked quite nice today, wouldn’t you say brother?” Benedict asks.
“I dare say, she looks even more radiant since her recent engagement.”
“You two are done,” Anthony shoves them out of the room. “You two will not speak of her like that again. She is your friend,” he jabs Benedict’s chest. “And your future sister-in-law,” and does the same to Colin. “You will respect her and not talk like this again, understood?”
“Yes, sir.”
-
The next morning as soon as you step out of the door, your future husband paces. “You’re awake.”
“I am, it’s time for breakfast.” You close the door behind you. “Shall we go downstairs and join the others?”
“We’ll be the first ones down there.”
“Either way, I’m going down.”
He holds his arm out for you to take. “Shall we?”
You give him a small smile and nod. “After breakfast, what are your plans?”
“I have a few things I need to look over but after that I’m free. What did you have in mind?”
“I planned on going for a walk along the back of your family’s estate and perhaps we could talk about things.”
“Just the two of us.”
“Mildred could join us?”
“I’d rather she not.”
“I don’t blame you; she’s been on a rampage since earlier this week.”
The doors open and his brothers, Daphne and Mildred, are already sitting at the table.
“Of course,” he mumbles.
“Did you say something?” You ask him.
He turns his head towards you, offering a small smile. “No, it’s nothing.”
The glances between him and his brothers were interesting, intriguing to you and the girls, who also had no clue what was going on.
He stands behind your chair, hand resting on your shoulder. “I shall find you after I am done.”
You nod and watch him go.
“Well, that was interesting.”
Daphne shushes your cousin.
-
You lay across the couch, reading another book and were so into it, not even realizing that he had entered the room.
He smiles as he steps closer, wondering what’s going on inside your head, finding you to be more interesting as he observes you reading, compared to his sister. He leans against the back of the couch, bending down to catch your attention.
A shadow moving catches your eye and you turn, screaming soon after.
You place your hand over your heart, taking deep breaths. “For heaven’s sake! What was that for?”
“What do you mean?” He smirks, arms on around the sides of your body as he stays behind the couch. “What are you reading?”
You turn around and cross your arms, “why does that concern you?”
“Can’t a future husband be curious as to what his future wife is into?”
You glance at him from the corner of your eye. “Is that all?”
“It is. But that’s not why I’m here.” He doesn’t say anything else.
You get impatient and wave your arms around. “Spit it out. Come on.”
“We are to marry by the end of the week.”
Your brows raise is surprise, “oh.”
“Is that alright?”
You take a deep breath, “I just- I wasn’t expecting it to be so soon but that’s- okay.” You place the book beside you and stand up, brushing the wrinkles out of the skirts of your dress. “I need to go over some things with your mother.”
The humor falls from his face. “Wait- where are you going?”
"I just told you."
He follows after you, "I heard you but-" He reaches for you, pulling you back. "Can we talk?"
You take a deep breath to calm your beating heart. Why is this happening now? You thought you were over this. Your lips part as you stare at his hand. You shake your head, staring up at him. "I- what do we need to talk about?"
"Lady... things." He’s quiet for a moment. "I won't push you but know I'm here to talk if you need someone."
"Thank you." You take off, not noticing the way his hand slowly falls or the way he clenches his hand.
It's been a long time since he's felt the skin of a woman he was enchanted by, especially one he's to call wife.
"Did we catch a moment between you and your beloved?"
Anthony sighs, "don't you have charcoal to break for your fruit drawings?"
His younger brother puts a hand to his chest, offended by his brother's comment. "I'm hurt, Anthony. Truly, I am but it's not why I'm here."
He turns to face the artistic Bridgerton, taking notice of the serious look on his face. "What's wrong?"
"Sister."
"Which one?"
"Not one of ours."
He furrows his brows, mouth agape to ask why but realizes who his brother is referring to. "I thought we had taken care of this situation?"
"We did but then she decided to cut their trip short and has been calling on you since she arrived today."
"I need you to take care of her. I cannot allow her to ruin my marriage."
Benedict nods, "you finally figured out you truly care for her, didn't you?"
Anthony chuckles, "I'm not discussing this with you. Call Colin if you need help."
"We got it. Go take care of my future sister."
-
He nods for the doors to be opened. "Good morning, ladies."
Your cousin shakes her head, your mother fawns over him while Violet takes a sip of her tea.
Your eyes widen at the sight of him.
He places a hand on the back of your chair. "I expect you all enjoyed your breakfast before discussing more of the wedding."
"Oh, certainly. Your family has been nothing but kind to us, Viscount."
You adjust the napkin on your lap to keep you from rolling your eyes at your mother's fake enthusiast tone.
Mildred pats your arm, knowing the strained relationship between you and your mother.
He notices the tension in your shoulders and wishes he could pull you away from all this madness. "Anything I can help with?"
"Oh, heavens no. You have other more important things to take care of. Leave this to us ladies, isn't that, right?"
You purse your lips and let out a quiet, "mmhmm."
Maybe it was better when she said she couldn’t come to the wedding. Yes, you were sad, but it was better than the real thing.
Violet glances between you and your mother. "Why don't we let the girls go on a walk with Anthony watching over them?"
"But-"
"I think this will be good for them. It will give them more time to talk."
The woman hesitates to say yes, debating if this is truly a wise decision before making a decision.
-
You didn't realize how tight you were squeezing Mildred's arm until she let out a whine.
Your eyes widen, "oh, Millie. I'm so sorry."
"It's fine. I should have known better. I know how crazy she makes you." "This always happens?" You don't look in his direction. Your cousin nods her head, "unfortunately."
"Why has she made this unexpected visit?"
"She," Mildred pauses, giving herself time to think of a better answer than truth.
"She wants to know if I am with child and if the reason, you're marrying me is to save my family's name."
Anthony nods, he understands why you preferred planning this with his mother and your cousin. "Should we?"
You two glance over in his direction. "What are you implying?"
He shrugs, "I merely suggest we pretend as if there is something going on, give your mother something to worry about."
"You want her to pretend as if she is with child?"
He nods, confirming Mildred's nightmare.
"Please tell me you're not thinking of going through with this. It’s absurd and- oh, no. Now I like it."
You glance between the two. "Is this something you two finally agree on?"
They stumble for a minute, waiting for the other to argue and tell you no but come to realize you are, in fact, correct.
Daphne stumbles upon the three of you and smiles, neither Mildred nor her brother are arguing, and you don't look uncomfortable.
"Daphne!" Your cousin waves. "Come, come. We need your knowledge on a subject."
She nods, smiling. "May I ask what you need my help with exactly?"
"How does one pretend to be with child?"
She owlishly blinks, tilting her head staring at the woman as if she's lost her mind. "I'm sorry?"
"We are feeding into my aunt's absurd idea of her precious daughter being with child."
Anthony purses his lips, finding himself to be offended more than he had been by Mildred's comments. "I'm not the worst option for a father."
"Moving on," she waves him off before returning her attention to his sister. "We need information."
"And you want to do this?" She turns to face you.
Your eyes widen slightly, not realizing she was going to ask. "I think it would be... nice to show mother how well her child is without her watchful eye."
"And you're sure this is the way to do it?"
You shrug, "it's not so much if I think this is okay, it's more like she needs to realize I am my own person and can live a life without her dictating everything for me."
Daphen nods, "okay. I will help."
Mildred smiles and interlocks her arm with the Bridgerton girl's. "Come, we have much to discuss."
You turn to your future husband and raise a brow.
He stares at the two, wondering what advice his sister could have to offer before holding his arm out for you to hold onto as you all return to the hall for dinner.
"Are you sure about this?"
You hum, not having listened to a word he said.
"I asked if you're sure about this. Mildred and I were joking, we don't expect you to play along with this idea."
"Your kind, but this is something I need to do. She won't listen to reason if I tell her I don't need her help, she'll involve herself, no matter what."
"And this is how you'll get her to stop?"
You sigh, "we'll see."
The dinner was entertaining for most, you felt bad for embarrassing Violet and the Bridgerton name all to get your mother off your back, but you felt there was no other way to stop her from inserting her wants and needs before yours.
That was the first night you had a stern talking to from your future mother-in-law and- even though you could have thought of a better way to handle the situation, it felt nice to be taken care of the way a child should, compared to the way your mother raised you.
You didn’t talk to your cousin or future husband after and went to bed with too much on your mind.
-
Then came the wedding, it was as lovely as could be even if it was short notice and only family was invited.
It came as a surprise to everyone, mainly yourself, when your mother decided it was time to stop and act like a caring parent.
She smiled and fixed a piece of hair that was out of place. “I know this isn’t the wedding you dreamed about-”
“I didn’t dream of a wedding often.”
She sighs, realizing she’s been putting words in your mouth rather than stopping to listen to you. “I never dreamed of marrying someone I didn’t love. If I were to ever get married, I’d rather it be with someone I could have a future with than someone who would rather be with another.”
"I know."
"And you know what else- you know?"
She nods, "I've been trying to relive my life through you, and it isn't fair. I'm here to watch you marry the man who will provide, take care of you," she cups your cheeks. "And love you the way you deserve."
You shake your head, fighting to keep your composure, not wanting anyone to know of your breakdown. "He doesn't love me."
She nods, "he does, you just can't see it."
"How-"
Your mother shushes you, "it's time."
The reality of the situation didn't hit you until it was time to walk down the aisle but with the help of Mildred and Daphne, you were able to overcome it.
That was also the only time you've felt the lips of your husband.
-
Since the wedding it feels as though all the progress you two made was wasted, even Mildred was tired of your constant complaints before and after she left.
You sit in the library, biting your nail until it hurts and turn the page; a new habit of yours, one Eloise would be proud of.
You started hiding away to read when everyone went off to live their lives now that the beginning of yours has ended started. You’ve been reading more since your cousins’ departure; it was a tearful morning but you're happy to know she’s out living her life the way she wants.
Then Daphne and Simon left the hall so they could return to their lives in their own home with little Augie.
You've tried to go out with Violet and Lady Danbury, but they preferred to ask when you two would expand your family; safe to say you also hide in here for another reason.
The youngest Bridgerton’s are swept away for their studies as they continue to grow. Francesca and Eloise are nowhere to be found half the time (hence where you got the idea).
You don't know if you'd be able to handle talking to the other two brothers since marrying the eldest. The comments they make at breakfast are enough, going on a walk with them would be too much.
Not that you mind the quiet even if it does get lonely at times.
You push yourself off the ground, placing the book back in its place only now realizing how dark it had gotten and your candle has died, providing little light to guide you; its barely the size of your thumb and the wick is dying the longer you stay here.
You open the door, carefully closing it and wince as the hinges creaking echoes down the hallway. You pause at the sound of footsteps only to hear a familiar girls whisper. "Hyacinth?"
She smiles, "what are you doing here?"
"I was reading."
"In the dark?"
You two glance down at your source of light that died as soon as she mentioned it. "The candles died."
“Can you take me back to my room?”
You smile and nod, “of course I can.” You grab her hand and try to find your way back to the hallway where her room is.
-
“Finally, we found it.” You glance down at her, “I told you, we would.”
She smiles up at you with a sleepy expression. “I knew you would.”
You open the door and get her settled into bed before exiting.
You wonder what it would be like to have your own child and stop. Are you really thinking about what it would be like to have a child when you haven’t seen your husband since your wedding day?
You shake your head and continue down the hallway before turning around, realizing you made a wrong turn; you sigh, leaning against the railing, staring at the ballroom floor.
You remember the first time you arrived at the hall and saw him. You didn’t know why your heartbeat was so fast until your cousin explained it to you.
You wonder if he knows how you feel and if that’s the reason, he’s been avoiding you.
“What are you doing awake at this hour?”
You spin around and find- “Ben!” You cross your arms to cover you.
He smiles, “what are you doing out of bed and away from your husband?”
You take the jacket he offers you, “I’d rather be reading but my candle died- oh no.”
“What?”
“I left it in your sister’s room.”
“Ah, so you’ve seen the whole family other than the one man you should be seeing.”
“Quiet now, Benedict. Unless you want others to know you’ve seen your brother’s wife in her night dress.”
“It wouldn’t be the biggest scandal our family has dealt with.”
You lower your head, rubbing your forehead at his words. “You’re an idiot. I’m going to bed.”
Anthony had a rough night and going to bed was something he desperately needed, maybe seeing your figure laying in our shared bed would make him feel better; he always seems to calm down when his eyes land on you.
That was something he always enjoyed about you whenever you were around.
He stops removing his coat when the door opens, and his brother is behind you while you stay in the doorway with his coat around your shoulders.
His brother takes the item from you and takes his leave before Anthony starts asking questions (not before Benedict gives him a suggestive look).
He doesn’t want to ask- he shouldn’t ask, it’s not his place. “Something I should know about?” He hopes this doesn’t lead to a fight.
“What do you mean?”
“We’re going to pretend as if my brother walking you, my wife, wouldn’t be a scandal if we were elsewhere.”
“Why? Don’t you trust me?” You ask, tired of all the games; him avoiding you and now having an interest in you.
“Do you know how much it affects me?”
An annoyed sigh escapes him, revealing to you how he feels (about the situation and not yourself). “What affects you, sweetheart?”
You ball your fists, “stop calling me that.”
He can’t call you such an endearing name when he hasn’t been acting like your husband. “That is what a husband is supposed to call his wife, is it not? A charming word of endearment for a handsome lady, such as yourself.”
“Stop talking…”
“What else am I to call you? I cannot call you by your name, it would prove-”
“How little we care for each other.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You. I’m talking about you.”
“Me?”
“You are a pest.”
“A pest,” he whispers, finding himself offended.
“You have never once thought of myself in the manner of being one’s wife but yet you act like this.”
“Like what?”
“Like you’re my husband.”
“Am I not?”
You study him. “You want to make a big deal out of this when you’ve been avoiding me since the wedding? Therefore, you are a pest.”
“I- I haven’t- when was I avoiding you?”
“You’re a terrible liar.”
He struggles to remove his coat and you make your way towards him, helping him.
“Your brother found after I helped Hyacinth get back to bed after she found me exiting the library. He didn’t want anyone else to see me in such a… intimidate manner.”
You stare at him through your lashes. “Anything else you want to add? Maybe,” you place his jacket on the back of the chair before taking a seat at the vanity. You start removing the pins and ribbons keeping your hair up, your tiredness hitting you as you prepare for bed.
He sighs, untying his collar. “I wasn’t avoiding, I’ve been… busy.”
“Busy? You’ve been busy?” You undo the sheets, settling onto your side. “I’m going to sleep until you can come up with another excuse on why you’ve been avoiding me.”
“I- believe me when I say I wasn’t avoiding you because I- this isn’t easy.”
You spring up, glaring at him. “And you think this is easy for me?”
“I’m not saying anything about our marriage. I have been,” he pauses, thinking of the right word. “Dealing with personal matters, things you shouldn’t have to worry about because of a mistake I made in the past. I am trying to protect this because I care about you.”
You gulp, “I’m sorry.”
“What was that?”
You roll your eyes, crossing your arms as you stare at the ceiling. “I’m sorry for thinking you were avoiding me but to be fair,” you spring forward, pointing to him. “I- I-“ You struggle to speak as you catch the sight of his bare chest.
He knows what he’s doing to you and his chest warms at the thought of only you being the one to see him in such an intimate way.
You turn away, fiddling with the sheets. “Like I said, I’m sorry for assuming the worst but considering-“ You close your eyes, following the way his lips moved against yours. You push him away, the warmth of his chest lighting a fire within you. “Just because we are married, does not mean you can use your body to change the subject or get me to stop talking about something you don’t want to.”
The corner of his smile twitches before he allows himself to smirk.
You’ve only ever seen him use this expression with his family, never once was it directed at you.
You’re happy tonight ended the way it has, you’re feeling closer to him, learning more of what makes Anthony Bridgerton tick.
-
He closes his eyes, chest heaving with every breath he takes. “I’m here.” He pulls away from you.
Your hand falls at your side.
His figure fades away, leaving you confused.
You burst up, confused as to what your dream means and glance beside you, finding him still asleep. You push yourself out of bed, needing the get away for a moment, sitting in the bench underneath the window.
You stare at the stars, wondering if there was some way, they’d be able to respond to your questions. It’s only been several days since your marriage became official; you still feel as though you’re not and none of is real.
You think back to your first kiss you two shared at the altar and the one you shared before going to bed. Your fingertips brush against your lips, relishing the sensation you felt then as it fills you with something you never thought you’d be able to enjoy.
‘Is this what love is?’ You think, staring at the bright moon, knowing it won’t answer you.
You glance back at him and wonder if he’ll ever love you the way-. You wipe away the stray tear, knowing how much it’d break you if he decided to cheat or leave you entirely.
Your greatest fear was thinking you’d end up alone.
Now you fear he’d be the one to leave you without looking back.
He squints, the moonlight disturbing his slumber. “What are you doing up?”
Your head snaps in his direction. “Hmm?”
He repeats his question, sitting up in bed, his night shirt wrinkled and slipping off his chest.
“I couldn’t sleep,” you tell him, not believing your own words. You crawl back into bed when you notice he won’t fully fall asleep until you’re near.
As soon as you settle onto your side, his breathing evens out.
You lay your head on the pillow, fighting the thoughts you know will keep you awake, feeling you’ll need more sleep than anything.
-
"We need to try for a child."
He glances up from his work. "I didn't realize your mother was in town."
You narrow your eyes to him, something he is truly fond of even if you are upset with him. "I'm going to pretend as if you didn't say that."
You close the door and pace around the floor in front of his desk.
“If you find yourself calm enough to talk, could you repeat what you said when you busted into my office.”
He knows what you said, there's no denying what he's heard but what's got you riled up to bring up such a topic.
The wedding was only three weeks prior, he knows of the idle gossip some of the other women enjoy talking amongst each and he's curious as to who said something.
He's also been trying to keep himself busier than usual to keep him from staying up too late and thinking of performing such acts upon you. He sets his pen down, giving you his full attention. “Why are you asking now?”
“I’m not asking,” you argue.
Is it such a wise idea to try and push for this? Most likely not but you're too upset over the gossip to think logically.
He studies you for a moment, wanting to understand what happened to make you think such a thing.
“What happened? I mean, you and Daphne went out for a walk, right?”
You pause, trying to understand where he’s getting at before nodding.
“Who said something to you?” He raises his brow.
“No one… exactly,” you huff, crossing your arms.
“I know they’re expecting me to be with child by now or at least, in the works of trying for a baby and I don’t want there to be another Whistledown column with either of our names in it. It’s not just my reputation that could be ruined, it could be yours or your family’s this time.”
He can’t help but smile at your kind thoughts. “I appreciate the concern and I’m sure my family would as well, but everything is going to be fine. We don’t need to worry about this.”
You continue having your pity party. “I’m glad you seem to think so.” You furrow your brows, thinking about how he’s avoiding the topic. “Why are you putting this off?”
“Putting what off?”
“You know what I’m talking about, don’t act as coy as your brothers do when asked about their courtships.”
He doesn’t have a way out, does he? A knock on the door alerts him. “I have other business to attend to, I’ll see you at dinner?”
You scoff, “you pretend as if you want me and need me when we are in our shared room but now that we are out in the open you want nothing to do with me? Tell me, are you just using me for your own gain?”
He sighs, “please, can we,” he glances at the door to find his brother. “Talk about this another time?”
You nod, offering a fake smile, “of course, husband.”
His attention turns to you once more, “I thought we weren’t going to have the normal marriage?”
“It seems we were both wrong.” You shrug. “Goodnight, husband.” You yank the door open, rushing past Benedict and the guest without looking back.
Kate smiles watching as you put yourself further away from the one person she wants. “It seems you and your bride are having minor troubles, may I?”
Anthony grits his teeth. “What’s brought you here, to my family’s hall, today?”
Her mischievous smile turns into an evil smirk, “I’ve come to visit an old friend, after all, didn’t you say I was always welcome?”
“That was before you tried to take my family’s fortune and run off.”
She plays with the cuff of his coat sleeve. “If it makes you feel better, I have a husband.”
“Then you should be with him.” He removes her hand from him.
If this had happened a year ago, he would be crawling back into her embrace but now that he has you, the only person that can keep him sane; he’s not going to make that mistake.
He sits down at his desk, rereading the page he was working on when you came in. He knows he’d be stupid if he fell for her tricks once more and ruined your marriage (and family name).
She pouts, not liking the fact that he doesn’t want her anymore.
“Perhaps you should go back to your home. We must clean up for dinner,” Benedict chimes in.
She spins to face the second eldest, “dinner? I’d love to.”
Anthony pushes himself out of the chair. “That’s not an invitation.”
“Why? Are you scared I’m going to ruin your precious marriage? You truly think I’d be harsh to do such a thing?”
“We don’t need to think it if we know.”
She smirks in trump, feeling as though she’s won.
-
You glance at the two with a sinking feeling in your stomach.
Is this the way your marriage is going to end? It took a while before you could remember where you knew her from and as soon as it clicked, you were fidgeting in your seat. Why did he allow her to sit so close to him?
She knows he's a married man and doesn't care. Maybe she thinks the marriage is fake and- you aren't worthy enough to be his wife.
You push the food around on your plate, your appetite forgotten. You remember the rumors about their relationship but could never be proven since she went back to India with her mother but now that she's back, you don't know what to think.
He notices and wishes that she didn't invite herself to join his family tonight.
You ask him about expanding the family line and him avoiding the topic entirely because he doesn't want you to feel as though this is a duty the two of you have to do.
He remembers when you two were first engaged and how you wanted to marry someone who truly loved you rather than someone marrying you out of a convenience.
His heartbeat when you told you should try for a child, he nearly passed out on the spot at the thought of you baring one of his children.
He knows you'd make fantastic mother; he doesn't doubt that in the least but since the wedding day he's realized something he should have a long time ago- something Kate is seeing for herself; he truly loves you.
Nowhere is it near what she thought they had but she's happy that he has someone who cares for him in more ways than she could.
-
She bids her farewells before pulling you to the side. "I apologize for intruding on your family dinner, but I think you should know you have nothing to worry about."
You furrow your brows. "I'm sorry, what-"
She shakes her head. "He loves you in more ways than he ever could care about me. I saw it tonight." She smiles, "all I ask is that you take care of him better than I could. I know you're good for him."
You stare at the door as it closes, unsure if anything that’s just happened is real or if this is a fever dream.
“Are you alright?”
You turn to face your husband and gulp. “Perfectly fine, why do you ask?”
“Did- She didn’t say anything, did she?”
The blank expression from your face falls and is replaced by one of annoyance. “What if she told me something she shouldn’t have? Is there something you wanted her to hide from me?”
He shakes his head, “is it too late to say no?”
You scoff, “you’re an idiot.” You close the door, not caring if it slams shut or not.
He stops it before it closes in his face, “I’m sorry I- it’s not true.”
“Then what is? Why do you care whether she’s told me about yours and her relationship or not? I know about you two. I’ve read the columns and-”
“That’s what I was worried about. I don’t want you to think something that isn’t true happened.” He stands behind the chair in front of your vanity. “I don’t want you think I’m a rake when I’m not, us marrying has changed things-”
“Us getting married is the only reason you’ve changed?”
“No,” he stumbles over his words, something he does more when he’s around you than anyone else he’s ever spoken to. “I-”
You push yourself out of the chair and walk towards the bed. “I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I keep pushing and I’m sorry but right now, I just want to go to sleep.”
“After you listen to what I have to say.”
“I have not felt the way I do for anyone else. I- no words can come close to what I feel for you.”
His grip tightens on the back of the chair. “I cannot- cannot breathe when you are near.” He catches your gaze, “you drive me insane when you try and argue with me. I don’t understand how you have vexed me and stolen my every thought. When you are here all I can think of is you, when you go out with my sister, you are the one thing on my mind. I- you, you are the bane of my existence, but I can’t seem to keep myself from you.”
You turn around, catching his gaze in the mirror. “Why are you telling me this?”
He spins around, “so you understand why I have changed. It’s not because I don’t care for you. I care too much about you. I have for a long time which is why I was scared when that bee was near you.” He squeezes his eyes shut. “I was terrified I was going to lose you and I didn’t understand why until our marriage.”
“But- that was days ago.”
“Exactly,” he takes a step closer. “I’ve been losing my mind trying not to push you into something you’re not ready for. And then, earlier when you came to me, telling me we should try for a child. I didn’t know what to think.”
“What about Kate?”
He owlishly blinks, trying to understand where you’re coming from. “What about her?”
“You’ve been with women before me and I’ve accepted that, but Kate was here, having dinner with your family. She’s- she’s been around town from what I’ve heard being whispered behind my back. She was here and you didn’t tell me. You- you say that you love me, but I don’t know what to believe when the woman you were in love with, who later broke your heart, returned into your life and you didn’t so much as think to tell me. Benedict was more involved than I was!”
You don’t know why you’re getting so upset over this, it shouldn’t bother you this much since you don’t-
“I didn’t want her to spout lies about me to you and make you think I am not going to be a good husband.” He grabs your hands, “believe me when I say she is not relevant. You are my future.”
Your chest heaves with every breath you take. “How-” Your nose twitches as you purse your lips, collecting your thoughts before you completely explode.
“How what?” He switches between looking into one eye and then the other.
“How could I be blind?”
“To what?”
“I have loved you since I could understand what the word meant and now you- you-” You gesture to your back, “help me with my corset. I cannot breathe.”
He nearly rips your dress off you as he pulls the strings keeping the oxygen from getting into your lungs.
You hang your head, trying to keep your emotions at bay.
“Sweetheart…”
You turn around, pointing at him with wet cheeks. “You have ruined me. You have ruined me for any other man since before my first debutant and have had my heart for just as long and I didn’t know it yet.”
He holds his hand out for you, allowing you to take a step closer to him.
You accept and stand with a few inches between you two. “You have bewitched me from the beginning, if you can accept my foolishness and accept me now, I would happily give myself to you only if you can return the feelings.”
“I wouldn’t be able to survive if I declined your love.”
For the first time since the wedding, the two of you share a genuine kiss and not one where he tries to use his body to distract you. It’s one that makes it feel like the world’s stopped spinning and you two are the only ones in the world.
-
A knock on the door alerts the two of you.
You wince, covering your eyes with your hand before reaching over for him. “Anthony, wake up.”
“I’m coming in and I hope you two are decent.” She groans, “God, you two are naked. Gross.” Mildred complains loudly to whoever stands outside the door with her. “I thought they’d at least have the decency to be awake by now.”
You can hear Benedict’s voice, but it comes out all muffled because you’re not fully awake.
He opens his eyes and turns his head to find your beautiful face lying beside him, hair in disarray on the pillow. His thumb brushes across your cheekbone. “Good morning, Viscountess Bridgerton.”
You find it hard to resist the urge to smile and open your eyes, staring at him with nothing but love and happiness. You hum, brushing back his hair so it doesn’t look as messy, wanting to see more of his handsome face.
“Good morning, Viscount Bridgerton.” You remove your hand from his hair, pulling his hand away from your cheek to peck his palm. “What do you have planned for today?”
“Spending time with my wife, although I do have to say, I don’t think she’d appreciate me lying in bed with someone as breathtaking as yourself.”
You can’t help but smile. “I think if you paid her the same comments you do to me, she’d understand.”
He sucks in air through his teeth, “I don’t know. I think you’d have to meet her to find out the kind of woman she is.”
“I think I know.” You lean against your elbow, meeting him halfway for a morning kiss.
“Would you two hurry up? We have plans. I did not come here on a boat to see you two to stay in bed when I have plans with my cousin. Do you hear me, Bridgerton?”
He sighs, flopping back onto his back. “How could I not?”
You smack his chest before pushing yourself out of bed. “I’ll be ready soon. Go downstairs and wait for me, Millie.”
“If you’re not down here before sunset. I’m leaving.”
You chuckle to yourself. “Okay.”
He pulls you closer to him, hands resting against your waist, slowly wrapping around you. He kisses the exposed parts of your back before pulling you down, kissing along your shoulders.
-
“This cannot be safe.”
“Just because it’s a new corset, doesn’t mean it’s not safe.”
“For the baby.” He ties the strings through the loops. “When can we tell them?”
“When they won’t freak out.”
“Never, okay.”
You chuckle and spin around, placing your hands on his shoulders. “They will know soon. It’ll be fine.”
He stares into your eyes. “You’re lucky I love you.”
“I think that’s my line.”
“Not today.”
You peck his lips before ordering him to tie the corset. “I’ll see you after our walk.”
“Don’t overexert yourself.”
“I won’t. Goodbye, ‘Thony.”
His eyes never left yours as you’re dragged away by your cousin.
Benedict steps inside. “Someone’s happy.”
He shakes his head, ignoring his brother; so happy go feed into the comments.

robert “bob” floyd x fem!reader
Tumblr media
Robert Floyd was a very shy man on the outside. I always admired him. The way he just sees and hears everything without being seen himself. Like a wallflower.
All of us are at the Hard Deck, Bradley is trying to pick up a girl at the bar. So was Hangman. Fanboy, Coyote, Payback and Phoenix were all chatting with each other while playing pool, as was I. And out of the corner of my eye, I saw Bob, eating from a cup of peanuts with his drink at the side of him.
He hadn't yet seen me staring as he was watching Bradley try and pull the girl beside him. Did he think the girl was attractive? If he did, I think he's lost his shot at being with her because Bradley is now locking lips with her. Gross.
"Y/N! You listening? It's your turn to shoot." Fanboy shouted to me waving his hand in front of my face. I blinked, shook my head a little then looked to Fanboy.
"Uh sorry. Lost focus for a second." Fanboy gave me a knowing look. He was the only one, other than Bradley (my cousin), that knows I may or may not have a thing for Bob. Bradley only knows because he guessed and I couldn't stop smiling when he mentioned Bob's name.
I grabbed the pool cue off of Fanboy and looked around the table to see where I could pot a ball. I moved around the table and found my shot. I lined my cue up with the white ball, then looked up to see Bob intently watching me. I shook my head and refocused on the ball. I drew the cue back and hit it with enough force so that the ball potted. The white ball then hit another of our balls into one of the holes. Fanboy patted me on the back and said well done before I sat down.
It was now Fanboy's turn to shoot. But before he did, he shouted to Bob.
"Hey Bob! Please could you get my jacket out of Y/N's car? She'll help you find it, can't remember where I put it." My eyes instantly went to Fanboy. I shook my head slightly with a pleading look. I could not be around Bob alone. Last time I was I completely embarrassed myself. I didn't show my face to him for two weeks.
"U-uh sure!" Bob put down his cup of peanuts next to his drink and got up off the chair and headed towards me. "After you." He muttered with his eyes glued to the floor. I began to walk out and turned to give Fanboy a death stare.
The walk to the car was silent. And awkward. Very awkward.
I unlocked my car and decided to start off in the boot of the car while Bob started in the backseat.
"Not here!" Bob shouted as he then began to look in the front seat of the car. I muttered a quick "okay" before continuing looking in the back.
I was zoned out. Just moving things about, not actually looking for Fanboy's jacket.
"Do you like... hate me or something? Did I do something wrong?" I quickly snapped out of my trance and closed the boot so I could see Bob's face.
"Why would I hate you? You haven't done anything wrong..." I furrowed my brows but my tone was quiet.
"You barely talk to me. There was a period of time where you avoided me, I know that because every time you saw me you did a full 180 and practically ran the other way." With every sentence, Bob took a step towards me until he was only a few inches away from me.
"I... I do not hate you." I chuckle as I make eye contact with him, Bob had a serious look on his face.
"Then why do you always avoid me? There has to be a reason..." Bob really wanted to know... Should I tell him? What if he doesn't feel the same way? Fuck it. I'm gonna tell him.
"Bob... I... Fuck!" I couldn't get my words out. I ran a hand through my hair and breathed out through my nostrils.
"You should know already! You're like a fucking wallflower!" Bob's brows furrowed and head tilted to the right in confusion.
"What's a wallflower?" He seemed very confused. The way he looked right now was adorable though.
"It's someone who sees and hears everything around them but isn't seen." I chuckle as I look into his eyes. The moonlight made his face look absolutely ethereal.
"Oh right... But... You still haven't answered my question." Bob had a small smile on his face.
"I..." I sucked it up, he was probably gonna find out sooner or later. "I have feelings for you Bob..." I couldn't look at him, I didn't want to. He surely doesn't like me back.
When I looked up at Bob, he was looking at me with utter shock on his face. Oh no... Shit... I've probably just fucked everything up.
"It-It's alright if you don't feel the same. I don't actually know why I told you... I could've just come up with an excuse but I just said it out loud." I kept on rambling and rambling.
Bob then grabbed both my arms and shouted my name.
We looked at each other intently until our faces began getting closer to each other. Bob couldn't wait as his hands found place on my cheeks and connected his lips to mine. It was a sweet, soft kiss. Severely contrasting to the other guys I've kissed before.
My hands then traced his abs and up to the back of his neck. I pulled him closer and he backed me up against the boot of my car. My hand went up to tug at his hair to which he let out a groan to.
We then pulled away for some air and stared at each other with goofy smiles on our faces.
"I have wanted to do that for so long..." Bob says breathlessly. I giggle as his smile becomes impossibly goofier.
"Come on, let's go back inside." We both then head back inside the Hard Deck to which Bradly, Coyote, Hangman, Phoenix and Fanboy were waiting and cheered as we got back inside.
"Did you tell them all?" I asked, to which Fanboy gave me a smug grin and hugged me.
"Well done for deciding not to be a pussy anymore Y/N/N." He said in my ear, I hit him on his back in reply which received a laugh from him.
I then go over to Bob who took back his place on his chair next to the wall and rested my head on his shoulder.
I'm glad I decided not to be a pussy.

Small Minded
They say there are powers—unfathomable and unnamed—buried deep within the earth. Boons and banes and spirits and seductions call to the ambitious, but I've never known of someone actually finding one until now.
What does one say to a dark sorceress on the cusp of her victory?
My knight, so loyal and brave, wheezes and gasps for breath within his broken armor. Our roguish friend, normally so quick witted and talkative, lies silent and unmoving in a pool of blood. I don't have the strength left to heal either of them.
"Let it sink in, Princess. I've won."
She has. I bow my head in defeat.
"The Godsblood is mine."
It hovers within her reach, an unshaped carmine gem formed of the crystallized blood of whatever forgotten god was buried here. The sickly sweet scent of its power, like rotting fruit, fills the air.
"With it, I shall wield ultimate power."
Yes, the power to remake the world according to her whim, to raise mountains from the sea or to sink cities into the abyss at her pleasure, perhaps even to rewrite the laws of space and time if she desires.
"At last, I will depose your father and rule all of Rutennia in his place!"
I jerk my head upright and stare at her in disbelief. "What?"
The sorceress Velle grins like an idiot. "You heard me, Princess. Your whole kingdom will be mine."
My face must betray my feelings, judging by the way her confidence falters at my reaction. "You've claimed a power like this, and all you can think to do with it is take over this kingdom?"
"Your father—"
"Yes. I know." I wave off her explanation, disinterested. "He didn't see your worth, you wanted to show us all, I get it, but if all you wanted to do was rule Rutennia, you could have just courted me and then poisoned my father!" I scrub at my face in frustration and suppress a scream. "What small-minded ambitions!"
That throws her off balance. "Small minded? I won! I'm getting everything I want!"
"And what you want," I retort, "is a single grain of sand on a beach." I ball my hands into fists and stalk toward her, outraged that my friends died for so little. "You are a cat who stole a siege engine to catch the mouse that once eluded you. You wouldn't even know what to do with the kingdom once you had it."
Velle barks an indignant laugh. "As if the king does!" She casts a hand toward me, magically halting my approach. "No, he has others handle all the administrative duties so he can simply bask in the worship of his subjects!"
"And when the people don't worship you?" I ask through gritted teeth, "because trade with Melland and Istow has completely halted without their kings' cousin sitting our throne?"
"I'LL MAKE THEM!" She makes a tugging motion in the air, yanking me forward to shout the words in my face. "With the Godsblood I can make my subjects dance like puppets at my command! They will all kneel before my throne."
This close to the gem, the scent fills my senses. It leaves me feeling lightheaded, giddy, almost delirious, even. It draws an inappropriate giggle out of me before I can retort. "Build a doll out of cloth and sticks. Make it kneel. Put worshipful words in its mouth. It will mean just as much. Personally, I got tired of playing with dolls at age eight."
Her face reddens. "You think you can trick me into giving up my goals? You think you can convince me this power is worthless?"
"Worthless?" I cackle. "The power of a dead god, worthless? No, only the things you imagine doing with it are worthless. You want to know what you should do with all that power? I'll tell you."
She leans forward, obviously curious.
"Istow's ports give it mastery of the sea and trade we need," I explain, as if to a child, "but we don't need them if we bring the sea to us. Flood their plains, drown their whole nation if you'd like, but take that bargaining chip away."
Some dim, distant part of me says I shouldn't give her ideas, but every inhale of the intoxicating aroma of Godsblood fills my mind with visions of what that power can do. Why can't she see it as clearly as I do?
"Melland," I continue, "is weak but well defended by the terrain. Pull the mountains down onto their capital, swallow their impregnable fortress in a new chasm, and their resources become ours."
Velle's eyes light up with understanding. "Yes, yes, you're right!"
No, no, no, even I'm still thinking too small. Like a petty warlord with a mere weapon. But this is no weapon, it's the power of a god. I take a deep breath and focus. I need to be thinking like a god.
"No, why set our sights on conquering our neighbors," I muse aloud, "when there's a whole world out there to reshape? We don't need what they have. It's not a zero sum game anymore."
Judging by her face, I've lost Velle again, but I don't care. My thoughts race. With every breath I take, my vision crystallizes.
She doesn't need to understand. I don't speak for her to hear; I speak because I must. "A perfect world, answering only to me. Every river, every pebble, the mountains and the seas, the very stars in the sky, all mine…"
"No." The sorceress shakes her head and tightens her grip on the magical restraints holding me in place. "The Godsblood is mine. I found it. I got here first. You lost."
She sounds so petulant, so small. Velle doesn't understand power, not really. She's merely a spurned court magician who deluded herself into thinking she was more, not someone with the will to rule.
And this is no inert stone. The heart's blood of a god demands to be wielded. It demands the will to wield it.
It was mine the moment I decided it was mine.
Without transition, the stone is already in my hand. A twitch of a thought tears Velle's restraints to pieces, no more than a cobweb caught on a boot.
She's screaming, shouting something, flinging spells my way, but my attention falls instead upon the crumpled figures of my dear companions.
With a thought, I am no longer next to her. I stand beside my knight, seeing him inside and out. His body is a trifle to mend, and like wiping dust from a windowsill, I smooth away the injuries. With little effort, I scan the thoughts within his mind, and… oh, what useful secrets lurking within! Many ways to control this one if he chooses to resist me.
My thief is dead. I refuse to abide that for the only one I recall who could consistently make me laugh, and a god deserves a jester even more than a king, right? All it takes is a touch to reignite the spark of life and bid the soul return to its body; funny, I always imagined resurrection to be a more difficult process.
Last of all, my sorceress. I don't need to read her thoughts to recognize her profound denial of the reality of this situation. She flings chaotic bolts of fire and lightning and ice at me, howling threats and curses that mean very little.
If I want her as my high priestess, I should impress her more.
We stand in the middle of a great empty ribcage, and yes, I think a god-bone crown would suit me. Brittle ribs bend like supple grasses, shrink and weave themselves into an ornate crown to rest on my head. I crush the Godsblood gem in my fist and direct the shards to implant themselves in pleasing patterns within the bone.
Velle ceases her assault. I watch her delusions melt away upon witnessing me destroy the gem. The light of understanding dawns within her mind that my power is entirely mine, never to be stolen. A god-bone collar snakes around her neck as gently as a princess's gloved hand, and I can taste her complete surrender.
The whole world also aches for my touch, but it will have to wait just a little longer for my design to perfect it. There are many more boons and banes buried within this graveyard world, and I'll need every last one if I wish to extend my reach beyond even the stars.
And my first three worshippers still need training.

its ur fav anon pookie!!
i’ve been thinking a lot about an arranged marriage/relationship with either sejanus or coryo. i feel like both of their guardians would want them to get to a higher ranking in the capital, so naturally, marrying their kid off to the capital sweetheart (reader) is the best option.
you don’t even have to write anything on this if you don’t want to, just a silly idea i had 🤭 i feel like they would both react so differently to being forced into something like that omg
Ok I love this idea so I’m writing one for Sejanus too, and I’ll link it here when it’s finished!
For as long as you can remember, there had been talks and jokes and quips about you marrying Coriolanus Snow, the grandson of your own grandmother’s childhood best friend. At first, the comments went well over your head, but the older you got, the more serious it seemed. And now, with Coriolanus at your elbow and your mother across from you at the dinner table, it seemed more serious than ever.
“In the springtime, of course, after you’ve both finished your studies,” your mother is saying, the two older women at the end of the table nodding along and whispering together, clearly planning their own sequence of events. All this marriage talk has made you lose your appetite, so you push yourself away from the table and make your way to the gardens, ignoring the shouts of your parents.
There are footsteps behind you, the heavy footfall of your betrothed, and you slow to a stop, despite the urges to turn and slap him across the face. He’s obviously pleased with this arrangement, gaining access to all that money he surely believes has long been his right, growing up with all the trappings of Capital luxury and none of the wealth.
The boy is as cold and emotionless as the statues that surround you, his eyes a pale blue that give the impression of a motionless pond. You wonder if your mother would let you choose the Snow cousin you’d want to marry, certain that Tigris would be much more enjoyable to spend the rest of your life with.
“Well, this must be wonderful news for you,” you sneer after a few minutes of silent walking, desperate for a fight.
“It is, I’m going to marry the most desired girl in Panem,” he says, his voice infused with pride, as if he’s done anything at all to win you over.
“The most desired fortune in Panem,” you correct, knowing exactly why all the boys at the academy fell over themselves trying to get close to you.
“Are you going to attend university?” He asks, changing topics as if he has any interest in what you want, any interest in you beyond the fortune tied to your last name.
“Yes, I am,” you try to be polite, but part of you is waiting for a fight, waiting for Coriolanus to finally snap and show you that he’s not an emotionless machine, “and I’m sure my parents would be more than happy to pay for you to attend as well, I can’t be having a deadbeat for a husband.”
You’re successful in riling him up, if the way Coriolanus crowds you up against one of the stone pillars near your house is any tell. You knew money would be a sore spot, and seeing his chest heaving with rage, his eyes an electric sort of blue you’ve never seen before, has a smile tugging at your face. He’s standing so close that you need to look up to look into his eyes, but you’ve never been one to back down from a fight.
“You have no right to speak to me like that,” he grits out, and you can’t help but scoff, the pride of this boy unbelievable.
“I was only trying to help,” you ply him with a sickly sweet smile, ready to complete the rest of your little experiment.
It’s difficult, with the way he has you crowded against the pillar, but you press your lips to his, cutting off any snide remarks he was waiting to use and resisting the urge to bite off his tongue. He’s motionless, hands by his side but his mouth is much more responsive, and when his hands start to catch up with his brain and he makes to grab your waist, you slip out from where he’d had you effectively trapped, sauntering back into the house.
When you look back at him over your shoulder, his chest is heaving for an entirely different reason, and you can’t help the grin that splits your face. He thinks he’s in control, but you’re the one who holds all the cards, and maybe this marriage won’t be as awful as you think.
I’m in love with this dynamic if anyone has any more asks for these two :)

Let me-S. Harrington
Summary: Steve Harrington always puts others first, but when he starts having terrible nightmares and his life seems to fall apart, you are the only one who can help him.
Tumblr media
Tags: Steve Harrington x Henderson!Reader. Angst with Fluff. (Giving my boy Steve the breakdown he needs .)
Words Count: 3k
The room is quiet and your body lies on the ground. You are still and cold, your eyes are closed, pale lips, hair stuck up at odd angles, patches of dried blood on your pale skin.  "Y/n" He mutters, his shaking hands near you, unable to touch you  "No..no, no, c'mon y/n! Stay with me. Open your eyes." Your face is swollen and bruised from the beating. He should have been in your place: the Russians should have interrogated him like that, hitting him hard, almost killing him. It’s not fair.  "Don't. Don't 'you die on me... please..." Blood trickles through your shirt, from a wound just below your ribcage he hasn't noticed before.  He presses against your open skin, trying desperately to stop the bleeding. "Please" He cries. Your eyes slowly open, just enough for him to find some hope. He grabs your face in his bloody hands and caresses you with sweetness and delicacy, like he is holding the most fragile thing in the universe. But your gaze is dull, like you are already dead. He shakes the thought out of his mind as you groan in his arms, before spasming and screaming loudly.
"Baby it's okay, it's okay. Stay with me" His voice is broken, he hasn't even noticed that hot tears are now falling on his cheeks as he feels your body getting colder and colder, and you cough, blood coating your lips, trickling down your chin. "It's...all your" You cought again. "Fault."
"No, no, no y/n please, please." He screams and sabs harder than ever.
"It's all your fault, Steve Harrington." Another female voice repeats, when Steve turns there's a figure in a corner. "MURDERER!" She shouts. When she comes out of the shadows her face is deformed, disheveled, pale and decomposed, but Steve recognizes her anyway. After all she's the beginning of everything. Barbara Holland looks at him with her big dead eyes. "You've killed her too!" She approaches. "It's your fault."
He wakes up alone, searching for some comfort, screaming in the middle of the night with the blanket rolled up between his legs while chasing away a ghost that doesn't even exist, Steve Harrington can't help but think Barbara is telling the truth: it really is his fault.
3 P.M
"I'm worried about him." Dustin whispers to you, without even say hello. " What? Who? " You have just returned from a family vacation and you've got no idea about what's going on, but you are in Hawkins, a place where everything can happen', so your mind runs free and your heart skips a beat cause you have already fought too many things  and you are definitely not ready for another round: demons,  monsters, demogorgons even Russians. There are too many possibilities.  You are looking for a response around you, a sign of something out of place, a wound on someone's body. You squeeze Dustin's face in your hands to make sure he is alright. "It's not me... Girl you are dumber than I remembered"  You shrug and are so relieved that your little cousin is fine that you pretend not to hear the insult. You love him like your own brother and sometimes he's annoying just like one.
"Oh shit y/n, he'll kill me if he finds out we're talking about it." The kid looks over the room into the other one to make sure that Steve is still talking to Robin and not worried about your conversation at all. " Yeah but.. What are we exactly talking about Dust? What's wrong with Steve? " You feel something tighten into your chest and the worry returning as fast as it went away: the idea that something may have happened to Steve while you were on vacation hurts. You are not his mother, not even his girlfriend to be sincere and It's not your job to protect him, yet the idea of not having been there for him kills you. You don't know what happened but you are sure that in his place you would have wanted Steve Harrington to hold your hand.
"Haven't you noticed? I mean he looks like hell, he's pale and skinnier then ever and..."
"What?"
"I slept at his place three days ago and it was bad... Like really bad. He've screamed all night, I think he's having terrible nightmares... After you know...all."
Oh sure.  Being tortured by evil Russians and almost beaten to death then, a few moments later, seeing a guy you know being brutally killed from a monster made of the your fellow citizens.  Most people would have gone crazy long ago.but not Steve Harrington. When all of you were having your worst of times, having to deal with your traumas and what happened at Starcourt, he was your rock. He kept the pieces together: yours, Dustin's, Max's and Lucas's. He did what none of you felt able to do: resist and now he's paying consequences. You glance at him, the warm smile he gives Robin is the shadow of his usual one and to be honest, now that you have a moment to observe him carefully, he really seems smaller and more fragile than ever.
"Don't worry dork, I'm gonna help him, I don't know what I can do but I'm gonna try. When was the last time you think he had a full night sleep?' You ask Dustin.  "Honestly? I think it's been a while" He states. "Maybe since you've left "
"Oh"  You were not expecting it. "I'm not saying it's your fault... But  whatever there is between you two,  you make him happier and... He feel safer apparently " You don't answer, you just blush cause you've always thought of yourself as someone who gets help, not someone who is helpful. Also you know that you and Steve are not just friends-there is always something pending between you, a tension, an attention, a different cure- yet you never thought you could really be that important to him, indeed it seems absurd that Steve Harrington, brave, heroic Steve Harrington, could need you.
You bite your lip as the kid starts yelling. "Steve! Steve! Come here, now!" Steve flinches and set up straight before running up to him, worry written all over his tired face.  "What's up? What's wrong?" He  stutteres nervously.  His dark circles are so deep that for a moment you look at them with fear, now that he's closer, it's even worse. "Calm down Harrington, nobody's gonna die. It's just a little problem y/n here was telling me about." You try to hide the surprise in your gaze, you have no idea what Dustin's plan is. "She had a huge fight with her parents, she can't go home tonight...but she can't stay at my place either  'cause you know mother would try to make her go home and all. "
"Huuuge fight. " You repeat, putting on a broken face. "Aunt Claudia wouldn't be helpful" Steve looks at you,  blinking  a few times "Oh, I'm sorry y/n." He would like to tell you to sleep with him, but his nights are hard lately and he doesn't want you to see him in this state:  weak, screaming for his stupid bad dreams like a child, searching desperately for him mom. You look at him in disbelief, It's not the answer you expected from the boy. In a normal situation he would have been quick to offer you his home, his bed and everything you can possibly need.
"You can stay with me" Robin suggests, smiling widely. Dustin shakes his head without being seen by Steve . "Actually no" The girl adds "You know, my house is too tiny... my mother wouldn't approve. Sorry y/n." You turn to Steve, showing off your best pleading expression. "Please,  please  Harrington, you're the only one who can save me. "
"I don't think that's a good idea y/n. I wouldn't want you to stay awake cayse you know... Animals outside and all the noise... It's not fair on-" He's so tired that he can't even come up with a convincing excuse. "Steve, I'm begging you" You approach him with a serious look and place a hand on his arm. "I need you to help me."
"O-okay. Alright. Of course, you can stay with me."
8 P.M
As hours pass by, Steve seems calmer and even tries to smile and tease Dustin a bit, but on the way home, driving with the sunset ahead of him, he is quieter than usual. "Are you okay Stevie?" You ask and he simply nods, keeping his eyes on the road. Even if is mind is slowed by the lack of sleep,  Steve's got a plan. If he menages to stay awake all night he will not fall victim of his own fears and you will never see him crying  like a stupid baby. He just has resisist, he thinks, opening the front door of his big empty house and letting you in.  You take a deep breath,  knowing  it will be hard for this stubborn  young man to let down the walls he's built  around him.
1 A.M
You yawn, images that your eyes can't catch scroll on the TV, and to you they  are just splashes of colors. You're tired, you just want to sleep and you think you've dozed off for a few minutes on Steve's shoulder, while the boy next to you is staring intensely at the screen. When you move to stretch, he turns to you with the sweetest smile on his face. "Maybe it's time to go to bed, what do you think?" You nod, letting him take your hand and lead you upstairs. In all this hours you couldn't get them to confess anything and you feel guilty about it. I totally suck, you find yourself  thinking.
"Are you sure you're okay?" You murmur,  watching at fragile figure,  his curved back, his messy hair.  "Why do you all keep asking me? I'm fine y/n, really." He replies, pretending to arrange things in the room to hide the constant tremor in his hands. "It's just that we haven't talked much since I got back. And I wanna be there for you. " You reply, moving closer to him. Steve smiles again, but this time there's nothing sincere in him.  He is tense,  even annoyed.  "It was you who fought with your parents to the point of not wanting to go home and didn't even tell me why"
"It's not that I don't want to tell you, it's that I'm ashamed ... These are very private things about them, family problems. " You reply, hoping that's enough for him to believe at your lie he lie and quit asking.
"And I respect that, y/n." He comes closer but he doesn't  touch you. "You can sleep here, the sheets are clean and if you need you can take one of my shirts for the night." Before he can go away, you grab him by the wrist,  less gently  than  you wanted to. "And you? Where will you sleep?"
"This house is full of rooms, don't  worry, I'll be next door." You don't let go, with your thumb you begin to caress his wrist as you wonder  if maybe  you are the one needing his presence "Don't you want to stay here with me for a while?" You ask. And God knows how hard it is for Steve to shake his head and tell you that no, he has some things to fix downstairs. "Sleep, y/n. " He intimates you, giving you a quick caress with his free hand. You let him go reluctantly and hurt. The truth is that he is terribly afraid of falling asleep next to you,  he can't control the nightmares that haunt his mind at night.
3 A. M
'NO! NO LEAVE HER ALONE! I will tell you everything please. Let us go! " It's a scream, a hysterical cry that wakes you up suddenly. Steve's voice echoes in the empty house and it' s is so terrified it doesn't even sound like his, sleep goes away immediately and all your senses are alert. You know there is no danger, you know it's just a nightmare but a part of you, perhaps bigger than you thought, is worried that turning the corner you will find a monster waiting for you. With shaky legs and unsteady breath you leave the room running, following the screams that come from downstairs.  You find him sitting on the sofa, waving his arms, hands, legs trying to chase away something invisible. "Mom! MOM! " It breaks your heart to see him so vulnerable and to picture him all alone, searching for comfort in a mother who's never there for him, fighting all alone with his own mind. Nobody deserves this, Steve Harrington less than the others. It's unfair.
"Please! ROBIN! Y/N! DON'T TOUCH THEM! DON'T TOUCH HER! Y/N!" You carefully tap his shoulder to wake him up, but he pushes you away. Then you try harder again, whispering his name. "Stevie, love please" and this time he pushes you so hard that you end up on the ground. At that moment Steve Harrington opens his eyes wide and with labored breathing and a few tears that he hasn't been able to hold back, he looks around until he sees you and realizes what has happened. Not only he has failed and succumb to sleep, he has hit you. He has hurt you. "Y/n" whispers. "oh my... Oh god" He brings his hands to his face as sobs shake his whole body. You get up quickly from the ground and run to him, holding him tightly in your arms. "No, no, no. Don't touch me" his voice is weak. "I don't want to hurt you again"
"Don't worry Stevie, it's okay. We're safe, I swear." He shakes his head, his face pressed against your chest. "They had you ... They had everyone ... Robin, my mother ... They were... Torturing you ... I couldn't stop them, I couldn't." He cries in desperation, his tears wet your shirt, you let a hand run down his neck in an attempt to calm him down. You've never seen him so shaken and scared as he lets himself go into your embrace, hiding his face against your body in a last-ditch effort to save his dignity. "Shhh. It's okay, I'm okay. I'm here, I'm fine. Nobody' s hurt please breathe Steve." His breathing slowes and his legs stops shaking. The tears are still falling down his cheeks and his hand is still wrapped up in yours. You sit still, tangled together. You looked into his big puppy eyes and brush away his tears with your thumb. He is still afraid, his body shrouded in cold sweat but he seems more lucid and now, when you look into at him, there is something new written all over his face: shame.
"I'm sorry." He whispers in a crackled voice. "Nothing  to be sorry for" You kiss his forehead, leaving your lips against his cold skin. "I.. Just feel so stupid. You shouldn't  have seen me like that. I shouldn't have let it happen" You shake your head, hugging him again. "Steve Harrington I'm here for you. Always. You don't have to feel stupid, not in front of me."
"I should be the strong one" He replies. "You are the strong one, Harrington, the strongest person I know" You reassure him. "You just have to allow yourself to heal. You've helped us all and you have thought about yourself, now you have to let someone take care of you." You smile. "Let me. "
'Thank you, for being here and sorry... I didn't  mean to..." you cut him off, putting your finger on his mouth. If you could stop time you would like to be lost in this moment forever, his adoring gaze on you, eyes bright and swollen with tears,  half opened red lips, with trapped words struggling to get out. "Again, there’s no need to thank me. But you can do one thing for me. Come up to sleep, I need someone to hug me tonight. " He nods, holding your hand while silently follows you upstairs. You make him lie down in bed covering him with blankets. "Stay with me. Please don't leave me. Not now.” Steve pleases, no longer afraid of being seen weak by you. He needs you. He need to feel your warm body, to hold you in his arm and keep you safe. He also needs to feel loved, for once.
" I'm here, I'm with you" You crawl next to him. His back is turned to you. You spoon him, not wanting to be apart. The heat of your body reassures him, makes him feel protected, he grabs your arm and caresses it. He groans in satisfaction. You put your other arm around his waist, intertwining your fingers with one another. "Feeling better?"
You ask. "Yes. You're incredible y/n,  truly."
"I would do anything for you. " You plant a light kiss on his shoulder. Feeling tired, you let you eyelids close and body melt around him as you feel his breathing slowing down with yours. Sleep begin to take over his  tired body, you hear a light mumble. " I love you, y/n."

The punch and the car.// Jacaerys Velaryon x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
Modern Au! Jacaerys Strong never liked the girl his mother adopted, and made his life's mission to let her know that. But years past and reader can't handle that much hate from someone as intense as him. Baela and Rhaena have an idea.
TW: smut and angst a bit of fluff! P in v, masturbation (female receiving), unprotected sex. Someone gets a punch.
-----------------------------------
As you had told her, the din of the overly loud music drilled into your brain. But your friend Rhaena's enthusiasm to see you and Baela out of your routine made up for it all. It was overwhelmingly crowded, but even so, her beautiful white hair made her stand out from the crowd and she ran to give you a hug.
"I can't believe you came, I thought you said yes to shut me up," said the girl with the sweetest smile.
"I never break a promise," Baela replied earnestly. Always with her dignity and honour.
"And I see you have convice our girl as well," she addressed you.
"Well, I'm afraid Baela threatened me if I didn't come..." that was absolutely true.
"That's how I made sure there was someone around who I liked" she justified herself.
You smiled at her, Baela had always been like a big sister to you, protective and loving in her own way. And Rhaena was also one of your favourite people, she knew how to boost your self-esteem and transmit energy. Maybe the party wouldn't be so bad.
"Baela!" someone shouted from afar.
You changed your mind after a second, from now on everything would be bad. The voice belonged to Jacaerys Velaryon, Baela and Rhaena's cousin, a.k.a 'Jace' to friends, which he always reminded you you weren't.
"What are you doing at a party, and out of rugby uniform? I don't think I've seen you in a skirt in years..." he hugged his cousin, smiling with those dimples. Then he saw you. "Oh...and you came too."
"Jacaerys..." you replied. "I'm surprised you saw me, I thought you'd be drunk as a skunk by now."
"I could hear your little voice beeping over the vibrations of the glasses as soon as you came in," he tried to mock.
"The plastic cups you mean?"
He fell silent, sighed and refocused on his cousins.
"I hope you're having a good time, cousin, I've got to go and get the playlist ready. It's my turn to DJ in a bit!"
The twins congratulated him and let him go, Jace gave them flirtatious winks before giving you a sidelong glance, as if he suspected you were going to nudge him at any moment. When he finally disappeared, Rhaena started waving to people and you and Baela decided to go get the first drink of the night.
"'I could hear your little voice beeping over the vibrations', ugh, what a clown..." you grumbled in Baela's ear.
"Oh, no. Don't start." She stopped concentrating on choosing liquor to look at you.
"Start what?"
"Complaining about Jace for anything. It's a tiring subject, both sides."
"He complains about me too?"
"Of course he does. He's always asking about you, like he's waiting to know something so he can complain even about things he hasn't lived through."
"Do you guys talk shit about me during training?"
Baela and Jacaerys were in different years at university and didn't study the same subjects (Baela studied sports, Jace politics and geography), but what they did share was a rugby training routine. Both were great players, and from a young age they had found a strong friendship through sport.
"No, I can mention to him, I don't know, things like we went shopping for panties last week and he finds a way to complain about you, asking me about you and overreacting to everything I tell him."
"Don't tell him about my panties, Baela!"
"It was an example..." lie, you had gone panty shopping, and Baela would most likely have told him about it because she doesn't think much of such things as embarrassing. "The thing is, I've had enough. I'm here today to get drunk and have fun."
She turned her attention back to her drink.
"So...you think I have an annoying voice?"
When she filled her drink twice as much, you took it for granted that her level of irritation had been overcome. You took pity on her and let her dance alone until you saw her stop to dance with a companion of hers. Perhaps the best idea was to walk around, and say hello to everyone you had even the slightest interaction with. And it seemed to work, albeit short greetings, nods or smiles, but no one stopped you to talk. As you sipped your drink, looking around the huge fraternity house, someone came up to your ear.
"Don't you have any friends here?" You were ready to smile at him, but you recognised Jace, though you didn't know whether by his voice or his smell.
"I'm looking for someone, actually," you lied. "You don't have anyone to hang out with to complain about me?"
"I'm afraid no one here cares that much about you."
That hurt. It would have been easy to reemphasize how obsessed Jace seemed to be with you, but it had crossed the fine line where you just wanted to cry because his insistence had made you want to hit him. Maybe it was true, maybe there was no one who cared about you as much. He must have noticed something in your eyes, his twisted smile disappeared, but because Jace couldn't stand to empathise with you, he decided to get angry.
"Oh, don't tell me you're going to be like that," he said.
"I don't even know why I bother to talk to you."
And you disappeared, turning your back on him. If he said anything else, you didn't hear it, the music was drilling into your head so much that you decided to finish your drink in two gulps, trying to numb your brain.
It hadn't always been like this with Jace, you just had trouble remembering the good times because the boy had made things difficult for you from moment one. From a very young age, living in the same house where Rhaenyra had lovingly taken you in, Jace had been a good boy, obedient to do his homework, help his brother Luke, and play with his cousins whenever they visited. But with you he was always different. It went from deep affection, sharing daily activities at home like drawing for hours on the same floor, dressing up and playing in the garden on summer mornings, swinging with each other in the park or enjoying cartoons lying on the sofa. But all that changed so drastically in the last years of school that you only had pictures and videos to remember those moments. When Joffrey was born, Rhaenyra began to count on you as a help around the house, while you put up with Jace pulling your hair when no one was looking, or "accidentally" throwing a ball in your direction. Nothing you said seemed right to him and all your good deeds were an attempt to lick his mother's arse. If Rhaenyra hadn't been there, you probably would have cried every night in your bed, but you held out hope for many years that he would grow up, just as Rhaenyra promised you would happen. Worst of all, you could only scold him so much, because Jace was smart. Sure, he talked back to his parents, he went out between days without warning, stories came home about girls he'd been seen hanging out with and doing things with, and he was a dick to you and didn't hide it. But he also passed all his exams with flying colours, he still had that unconditional affection for Luke, Joffrey and his cousins, he was a sportsman on a par with his mother in his youth, he helped his father Harwin whenever he needed him to fix something around the house, and he knew how to make anyone he came across smile.
Meanwhile, you had always felt like an outsider because of him, because the others had gone out of their way to include you. Harwin was a father to you, he had taught you how to drive and showed up at all your music recitals, no matter how bad they were. And Rhaenyra always told you everything. What was going on in her work, what she was talking about with Harwin, what she had discovered in Jace's drawers, or how happy she was to be promoted in her job. She had taught you how to do your hair and had more than kept her promise to your mother after she left this world. And yet, Jace made you feel like that wasn't enough, and at the same time it made you feel selfish. You couldn't just focus on pleasing one person, you couldn't please everyone. But it was frustrating that no one loved you with such passion but you had someone who apparently hated you with such passion.
All that went away from your head as the alcohol took effect, and you got so hot mixed in with the people dancing. You didn't even notice that it was Jace who had gone up to the DJ booth. That he played good music would be one of the things you could never admit to, and on top of that, he was happy to take requests from the pretty girls who piled up to ask him for tunes. You could stand it for a little while, noticing how the odd person approached you with strange intentions. And all of them you brushed aside, ignoring them almost unwillingly, so much on your own that you gave little thought to whether or not to offend others.
As you carried the cup again, an activity you had done a few times already, Jace played one of those songs that irritated you the most, and of course, there were people who agreed with you and there were many more who cheered Jace's choice. The least you deserved was to ask him for a song. So it was to the mixing desk that you headed, awkwardly, with a full glass and clearly drunk. If you pushed someone it was likely, that you cared about it was out of the question. And Jacaerys found it so strange to see you standing there that he gave you some attention, lending his ear for you to speak to him, mind you, with a scowl.
"Play my song!" you shouted at him.
"Your song?" He looked disgusted, and shook his head when you nodded.
"The one before was shit, play my song!"
"I don't take requests...especially not like the shit you want me to play." But hey, he did know what your shit song was...
"Yo do take requests, asshole, and it's a shame you had to learn a whole profession as a dj to get girls to listen to you,"
"Get the fuck out of here before you puke on the table," he snapped.
"Are you calling me a drunk?"
"Clearly you're not?" he mimicked your tone of voice and the dumb expression you must have had at the time.
"I don't talk like that, enough of--" in your anger, the drink had ended up spilling out of the glass and onto the huge, button-strewn table. Jacaerys turned away, but you, panicking and confused, tried to wipe the alcohol off the table. And then sparks flew, and for an instant you felt that intense burning sensation in your fingers. You felt yourself being pulled within seconds, but you couldn't see who it was because the whole house went out. People were soon protesting, shouting and hissing, but all you could smell was Jace so close, his hands in your arms.
The lanterns lit up the room, though the complaints didn't disperse, and loud footsteps sounded overhead.
"Who destroyed the mixer?" the voice shouted. The lights focused on him, surely more than one was recording. His tense and serious face brought you back to your senses a little. Just a little.
"Aemond, I'm so sorry about the table, it was an accident..." apologised Jace, trying not to look nervous.
"I knew accepting you into the fraternity was a mistake. Do you know how expensive the mixer is?" he approached both menacingly, though he wasn't looking at you.
"We're so sorry..." you interjected.
"Shut up and get the hell out of here," snapped the boy everyone knew as Aemond One Eye, a legend on campus and also Jacaerys' uncle.
"Hey..."
"I'll try to pay you back, okay?" Jace slyly placed you behind him, trying not to feel provoked by Aemond. "I'm telling you, it was an accident."
"You'll pay for it? I can already see you whining to your mother to spoil you again for everything you want. No, not this time, I don't want you to pay for it, I want to make it clear what a cunt you are. I don't want you to come back here anymore."
"It was me who did it-" you were interrupted again.
"I have friends here too, Aemond, don't forget that."
"That's because everyone forgets that you and your brothers are the worst scum they can come across. None of them know your brute of a father."
"Leave my father out of this," Jace was on the verge of fisticuffs.
"You're right, I suppose he's been duped by your slut of a mother--"
Then he took a fist, and everyone stifled a scream, and there was the odd brave one who dared to clap. And no, it was not Jacaerys the puncher. So drunk, angry at the interruptions, and even more provoked by the comment, no one had foreseen the blow you threw at Aemond, nor the strength you had hidden. The fact is that the boy started to bleed from the nose, and that applause had perhaps encouraged you too much.
"What the fuck?" Aemond said to you.
"We told you it was an accident. And it wasn't even Jace, you fucker. It was me...yes! Me! And the only scum I see here is you!"
The whispers and the dreads returned, and now there was no more applause. Jace tried to push you away again.
"Don't mind her, she's drunk," Jace excused you.
"I'm not going to hit a woman," Aemond wiped his nose.
"You better" you said and Jace threw you knives through his eyes.
"How brave, Jace" he then exclaimed in a higher tone. "You need a poor girl to cover your back...pitiful."
He then lowered his voice as people seemed to start talking again, commenting on what they had just seen. Someone was able to turn the light back on, and the cheering returned.
"Both of you get out of here right now. If you don't, I'll make sure no one talks to you for the rest of the college." The blond finally whispered.
As you stepped aside, Baela and Rhaena were already there to find out first hand what had happened, and Rhaena saved you from falling straight to the ground.
"Is she drunk?" She asked Jace.
"Clearly...though she's never been very smart."
"Jace, don't be cruel," Baela urged him.
"She needs to throw up, and I'd rather she do it here than in the car," Rhaena looked at her cousin ruefully, you trying to regain the mobility of your fist. "Give us a hand getting her upstairs...please."
Without a word, Jace was able to hoist you onto his back, with Baela and Rhaena watching to make sure you didn't let go and fall down the stairs.
"I think I cracked my finger," you said slurring your words. You held out your hand to Rhena to show her. "Can you see if I've cracked it?"
"I don't have x-ray vision, honey," she replied.
"You punched it with your other hand," Jace corrected you. Only you laughed, clutching his neck again. He still smelled exaggeratedly good and his hair was there for you to sink your face into. But soon you reached the bathroom.
Rhaena grabbed your hair and it wasn't long before you were puking. Outside the bathroom, Jace avoided Baela's gaze, who knew that Aemond's words must have hurt him. And soon your consciousness came back. You rinsed your mouth and rethought your life choices.
"Did I just punch Aemond Targaryen?" You asked the girl. And she nodded at you, smiling. "I just punched Aemond Targaryen!"
And then you smiled, and a little gasp escaped you, leaning out into the hallway to join Baela and Jacaerys.
"I just punched Aemond Targaryen!"
Though Baela was smiling, it was Jace who wanted to burst your little bubble of happiness.
"What you just did is make a fool of me," he cut you off, his tone serious and low, shifting his gaze from the floor to you.
"Hey...I stood up for you." You were instantly out of any joy.
"I didn't need your help, in fact, what I needed was for you not to be here. It was all your fault."
"Aemond would have used any excuse to insult you in front of everyone, no matter what happened, just like you don't need anything to insult me."
"Don't compare me to Aemond! He hates my mother and everything we have. Instead you..." he paused for a moment, frustrated and waving his hands around, not knowing what to squeeze, "you just need to exist to..."
"To hate me?"
Though he didn't answer, he didn't need to. He turned his eyes away from you, and closed his mouth. And then you were overcome with all the ridicule you had always made, not just today. Whatever had been going through his head about you had always mattered little to you. But now you could understand that it was you, your personality and everything that you would never change that bothered him so much. And that confused you more, because if Jacaerys saw you like that, when he was an admirable person in many ways, did that make you a despicable person?
"I'm going back to the flat" you whispered after a few seconds. You started down the stairs, getting as far away from Jace as possible.
"I'll give you a lift" Baela offered.
"No need, I'll walk..."
"No, I'll take you, I don't feel like being here anymore." She grabbed you by the shoulders and made you stop.
"Are you sure?"
"If my friend doesn't have a good time I'll never have a good time...I hope you feel the same way." She winked at you and you smiled a little. "Go to the car, I have to say goodbye to some colleagues."
She left you the keys and you walked alone to the place where you remembered getting off. And opening the door, the warmth of the car comforted you and although you thought you would be grateful for the silence, it brought back the bad memories and your head was spinning again. It took you a while to realise that Baela was taking a long time, but you refused to go back into that house.
Biting your nails in the dark, with a few stealthy tears falling, you half lay down in the back seat, because you always got dizzy in front, as all your friends knew. And when someone opened the door, you were instantly glad to think it was Baela, but it wasn't. The smell was different, and though it was a smell you loved, the presence made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Jacaerys sat in the back seat in awkward silence, and slammed the door shut. He didn't make you step aside, for he shrank back in his seat and turned on the car's light. And even then, he didn't look at you.
"Where's Baela?"
"Inside."
"And... And why are you out?"
"I'm not technically out of a place if I'm inside a car." He replied in a pedantic tone. To that you said nothing, just let out a snort, giving up. "Rhaena told me you'd be here."
You stood silent waiting for him to develop, but he struggled, shaking his leg, making you incredibly nervous.
"If you're going to be like this you might as well have stayed outside. In the open air if you wish me to be more specific..."
With a look of disgust, he opened the door and walked out. And you felt a little silly because the light made you look a little ridiculous in that posture, waiting for someone who wasn't coming and having blown the only chance you had to make amends with Jacaerys. And you watched from the window as he paced back and forth, his coat pulled tight and trying to cheat the cold. You enjoyed watching him for a while, and it wasn't long before he gave up. When he tried to go back inside, you quickly got into his seat, not letting him sit down.
"It must be minus twenty degrees in here, let me in," he demanded.
"You're too much sometimes."
"Please, my nipples are going to turn blue!"
At your hesitation, Jace decided to have his way, sitting down roughly and causing you to pull away. Locked in the car again, Jace took a breath, and finally spoke.
"I don't hate you!" Though from his tone it didn't sound like it. "But it's as simple as that every time I've run into you, you've managed to overshadow everything."
"Jacaerys, we've lived our whole lives together. It's natural for you to hate me--"
"But thats what I'm telling you, that I don't hate you, and that's what irritates me the most. You've been the apple of my mother's eye ever since you were adopted. Her only daughter, while I, the one already there, the eldest, the first-born and the supposed to be the dearest, have always remained in your shadow."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Of course you don't, you'll never know what it's like to have everyone telling you how great you are while I choke on trying to make someone proud of me. You smile and you have it all."
"I don't know? Listen to yourself, Jacaerys, it's you who only has to smile to get what you want. You're a taciturn, stubborn and rather obtuse about a lot of things and everyone lets you slide because you're the favourite, the handsome, sporty one of the brothers and you get good grades even though no one's ever seen you study." Your raised voice made his eyes widen quite a bit, that or maybe you were moving dangerously towards him.
"I study at night!" he justified himself.
"I know, your mother always thought it was the hours you masturbated but I've always known you studied because you get anxiety about not answering an exam!"
"And you know everything because you are a know-it-all and everyone tells you everything because they want to be your friend!"
"Then why don't you?" That sounded a lot more desperate than you thought it would.
"Because I want to feel like a real leader for once in my life, I want to feel independent and you've never stopped trying to match me. You haven't even let me fight with someone who has insulted me, not you!"
"And you needed to ostracise me for years and remind me how lonely I am to get me to leave you alone?"
Then you stepped back, and the dim light let the two of you watch each other carefully. Your tears had long since passed, but Jacaerys seemed to have them on the verge of coming. And then you felt sorry.
"I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry."
You said it unwillingly at the same time. Silence returned, and your gazes parted, though you couldn't help but glance sideways at him.
"The worst thing about all this..." he started to say, "is that I like the song you wanted to play too. But I didn't want to play it because it makes a lot of sense that people would have loved it and the wanted to be friends with you, you're someone...quite unforgettable."
"Well, you didn't need to learn the whole DJ thing to get girls' attention." That made him smile a little.
"Luke's not going to believe you called me 'the handsome one of the brothers'," he joked.
"Oh, that's all you got? Now I feel stupid. I'm going to go get Baela," you moved to open the car door, but again, Jace's hands picked you up, pulling you back towards him.
"I know I'm taciturn, stubborn and obtuse, but you know I'm more than that..." he then rested his hands on yours, checking those small burns that had been left over from the accident.
"Of course I know that, Jacaerys..." then you realised how close you were to his face. His greenish eyes were now completely black, and never before had you felt as seen by him as you did at that moment.
"Your fingers must be burning..." he put one of your hands to his lips.
"And you must still be a little cold."
Without quite knowing what was going on, the alcohol reminded you that you were indeed much looser than you were used to, so when Jace kissed your fingers slowly, you couldn't help but caress his lips, which went from cold to incredibly tempting.
As soon as you pulled your hand away, Jace launched himself at your lips, and first it was a strange, slow kiss, soft and silky. Jace smelled so good...and kissed so well...it didn't end there. He pulled you on top of him and continued kissing you, the passion increasing with each kiss. As your tongue entered, your hand moved down to Jace's chest and you felt it grow so close to your own sex. And the music coming from the party so far away seemed to increase in your mind, the movements of the car getting faster and faster.
When you undressed is something you'll never know, but you do remember undressing Jace with that stupid car light on. You were no virgin, but Jace felt so new, and the readjustment he gave you made you feel that instant electricity. And it was you moving up and down, with Jace trying to capture your lips, even though it had been feeling so good for a while that he could barely do anything but moan softly. He knew how to move his hands and his sweat made him look a thousand times more handsome than you'd ever seen him.
"I'm going to cum," he warned you. "Fuck, even for this you're the best..."
"Don't exaggerate," though it brought a smile to your face and red to your cheeks. It didn't take you long to feel that explosion as Jace closed his eyes and caught his breath.
Dismounting from him, the tender kiss that followed surprised you, and you could feel a smile on his lips. You hadn't cum, but the experience had been worth it, though you didn't think about the consequences at the time. Then Jacaerys brought his hand to where you wanted it most, and a moan escaped you in that supposedly high-pitched voice that didn't seem to bother Jace so much now.
"Tell me how you like to be touched," he whispered softly. And you put your hand with his to change the rhythm.
"I like it like this" you replied, his fingers were still a little cold and that made it all the better. You were concentrating but when you opened your eyes your enjoyment increased. Jace's face was pressed to yours, and he kept his eyes on you as he moved his hand without even penetrating you. He looked into your eyes, or he looked at your lips, but he was full of affection for you, for the first time it was only and completely for you.
Then that tingling feeling ran through you from your stomach to each of your fingers and toes, and Jacaerys delighted in seeing you with the favour returned.
And it all ended with another kiss, lacking tongue or eagerness, but full of tenderness that made you forget every single bad thing that had ever happened.
"Your mouth tastes like good weed liquor," he confessed as you got dressed again, his dimples peeking out.
"And yours tastes like rum-cola."
"Clearly I win this one."
Laughing and blushing, you nodded. And before you kissed him again, Baela and Rhaena's voices began to grow closer. And the two of you parted as if it were routine as the car doors opened and closed.
"I'm sorry for the lock-up," apologised Baela. "I hope it's all right."
"It is...it is," you responded.
Jace opened the window, trying to disperse the smell a little, and his attempt at being sneaky was a little too funny to you.
"I'm glad...something smells funny though..."
"Did you know that cars are cleaned on the inside too, Baela?" The twin teased.
The two engaged in an absurd argument that was amusing, but your eyes and mind focused on Jace as he placed his hand gently on your leg, and then turned his palm over to offer it to you. And you took it silently, interlacing your fingers and letting them rest in your lap.
You had cried about Jacaerys, you had executed an act of violence in defence of Jacaerys, you had left Jacaerys in the cold. You had made love with Jacaerys...now you could understand why wars were difficult. What a weirdly victorious night that was.

What we had — Conrad Fisher x Model!Reader
Tumblr media
Description — after dating Conrad for a few years, you find out that he has been cheating on you with belly, years later you return to cousins beach… but there a different aura to you
Warnings — mentions of reader being known as a slut, mentions of abandonment issues, bad writing, name calling?
Fandom — the summer I turned pretty
A/n — it been a while since I posted a fic. I hope you enjoy this one! Don’t kill me but this one has a sad ending! It for the sake of the imagine so keep that in mind, besides. I got this idea from an Episode story I read, so credit to the authors of that story!
Tumblr media
“I can’t believe you!” You shouted to your boyfriend of 2 years, voices echoing from the fishers beach house
“Y/n, it was a mistake I swear!” Said Conrad as he tried to reason with you, you scoffed
“Please… I know what a make out session looks like and I just witnessed you and belly having one just a minute ago!”
“It didn’t mean anything!” Said Conrad “you have to believe me!”
“You know what, I’m done.” You said on the verge of tears “I hope you two are very happy together!”
With that you left, wiping a tear from your face
Tumblr media
3 years later
“Y/n L/n!” Shouted the paparazzi “is it true that you are dating Liam Hosterman?”
You rolled your eyes before responding, sunglasses covering your face. Let’s just say that after the whole Conrad and belly fiasco, you went rogue. Parties all night, and ending the night with a new boy on your arm. It was the life you enjoyed… that was until you got an invitation to belly’s graduation party.
“I think you should go.” Said your best friend Nora as she sat opposite side of the couch from you.
“Please, I rather eat dirt then face Conrad fisher.” You said as you sipped on your tea “besides he wouldn’t want to see me anyway.”
“Girl, he sent you flowers 5 months ago apologizing for what he did.”
“Yeah… 3 years to late.” You said “besides I have a hot date that day so I have to politely decline.”
“I think your being selfish.” Said Nora “the girl speaks highly of you, didn’t you say that you were her big sister for the debutante ball that summer?” Asked Nora, you huffed.
“Just think about it.” Said Nora as she gave your hand a pat before leaving.
Here you were, on the plane to cousins beach… hoping you wouldn’t regret a single thing, after your flight landed, you placed your sunglasses over your eyes.
“This is going to be a long vacation.”
Tumblr media
“I’m so excited that you can make it.” Said laurel as she gave you a hug “I think your old room is still the same, susannah has been decorating it ever since she recived your RSVP.”
You nodded your head at the thought
“There’s my darling Angel.” Said Susannah as she opened her arms signaling you to hug her, you hugged her
“Look at you! You look way different then you did 3 years ago.”
“Thanks Susannah, Is Conrad around?” You asked
“He just called, he won’t be landing till in the morning.” Said Susannah
Great that gave you perfect time to figure out a plan to avoid Conrad this whole week
“I’m going to drop my luggage off to my room.” You said as you walked upstairs
Tumblr media
It was the next day, and you were out back near the pool tanning as belly was swimming in the pool.
“Hey are you going to make up with Conrad this summer?” Asked belly as she got out of the pool, joining you on the loungers, towel wrapped around her.
“Maybe, maybe not, why?” You asked
“I think you should give the boy a second chance.” Said belly
“Why did you kiss him 3 years ago?” You asked
“Honestly… I just wanted to see if my crush on his was real or a infatuation.” Said belly
“And?”
“It was a infatuation… I’m sorry…”
“It-“
“Belly, laurel wants you in the kitc-“
He stops mid sentence when he sees you, you freeze as you hear the voice
“Talk to him.” Whispered belly as she walked away
“Hey-“
“Don’t hey me!” You said as you stayed glued on the loungers, back turned “In fact, don’t even come near me.”
“You look great…”
“Please stop flattering me… that’s not going to work on me this time.”
“Is that because your to good for me? To good for us?” Asked Conrad “you haven’t even visited us in three years Y/n!” Shouted Conrad “Mom was devastated!”
“I was heartbroken Conrad!”
“Oh so sleeping with every guy that you can find is going to mend your broken heart?”
You sighed, you ran your hand through your hair before standing up
“Your the reason that I am the way that I am!” You shouted “if you didn’t cheat on me 3 years ago we wouldn’t be in this position!”
Conrad scoffed
“Who are you and what happened to the girl that I fell in love with 3 summers ago?”
“She’s changed Conrad.” You said “deal with it!”
You stormed off before feeling a hand on your wrist
“What we had was special.” Said Conrad “if your going to throw away what we had then your crazy.”
With that he left, you pondered for a moment before speaking out
“Wait…” you said, Conrad turned around “I’m sorry ok.” You said “I’m sorry that I left, but I did it because I wanted to focus on me.”
“Yeah but leaving?” Said Conrad “that is the most stupidest thing you ever done, we could have talked things out but what did you do? You ran away.”
With that Conrad went back into the beach house, leaving you by the loungers, you sat back down puffing in annoyance.
Tumblr media
“He isn’t going to forgive me belly so just drop it.” You said as you snacked on a cracker
“Look. I know what you did was to better yourself, but Conrad was heartbroken when he found out that you were sleeping with the whole city of New York.”
“I know…” you said “it’s just… it was the only way to take the pain away.”
“Did you at least go to a therapist or a shrink, one?”
“Yeah… turns out I have a bad case of abandonment issues.”
“Your parents were pretty much absent in your life.” Said Jeremiah, belly nudged him
That was true, all your life you only had Susannah and laurel as mother figures in your life. Susannah was a good friend of you’re mom, and every summer you would go with the fishers to cousins beach. Turns out, it was your parents way of saying we don’t wantyou around. Who was there for you when you got your first period? Susannah, who was there when you got your first heartbreak at the age of 16? Susannah, she treated you like you were her own daughter. Unlike your own mother.
“Jeremiah!”
After belly said that, a knock was heard. You turned your head and saw Conrad standing in the doorway.
“I hate to budge in but… y/n can we talk?”
You looked back at belly and Jeremiah, who signaled that it was alright as they left, Conrad walked in.
“How much did you hear?”
“Everything… y/n I’m sorry for what I did.” Said Conrad as he grabbed a hold of your hand “do you forgive me?”
You let out a faint smile before cupping his face
“Of course I forgive you.” You said
You kissed his lips for a brief second before pulling away
“How I missed this.” Said Conrad as he smiled, you let out a giggle.
The summer I turned pretty masterlist

I love your page sm!! I would love maybe a little love plot with max lando or Charles doesn’t matter who where during break Carlos invited them to Spain for his 29th bday and his little cousin who is very out there comes to the party and starts karaoke singing their favorite song while making a big show out of it.
Pass the Mic
loveeee this idea, thank you!!
You grabbed your YSL candy glaze and swiped it across your lips one last time. Perfect. It shined just as bright as your silver mini skirt. Time to make your appearance.
It was your cousin Carlos Sainz’s 30th birthday. He was throwing a huge bash with just about everyone who was anyone attending. Meaning… your secret boyfriend would be in attendance. Your secret boyfriend, Lando, who was too scared to tell Carlos that you two were dating. In Lando’s defense Carlos did forbid him from going near you. But you were adults, who was he to give you rules!
Walking in like you owned the place, you and your friends raced to the bar. Ordering up different versions of vodka, gin, and tequila cocktails. Taking your first sip of your gin and tonic you felt the alcohol course through your veins igniting a spirit inside you.
“Y/n come on let’s go dance!”, shouted your friend. You wanted to but you needed to see the birthday boy first. Scanning through the crowd you search for his big head of hair. Spotting him deep into the crowd you start strutting over when you see that curly haired wimp next to him. You hadn’t talked to Lando in a few days when he said no to arriving to the party together. Feeling the alcohol a little more, you decided to make a scene.
“Carlos!”, you shrieked as you gave your cousin a big hug. Almost knocking him over, he busts out laughing as he says hello back. You give everyone around a kiss on the cheek and a hug. Making eye contact with Lando you intentionally swerve his embrace as you go back to Carlos.
“How many shots have you had y/n?” Carlos jokes attempting to take your drink from you. He was always protective of you as you’re the youngest in the Sainz family.
“It’s my first one! Sorry you’re not as fun as I am!” you tease holding the drink out of his reach.
“You never could hold your liquor well”, Lando remarks, trying to join the group conversation.
You narrow your eyes at him in clear annoyance. “And how would you know Norris?” sneering back at him. Carlos clearly seeing the tension attempts to break the ice.
“Okay my friends! I feel like maybe we do need more shots!” he declares as he leads you all back to the bar. Once reaching the bartender you all decide to do a shot of tequila. You were about to be in trouble.
After almost an hour of ignoring Lando, more shots, and dancing, you needed to change the pace. Luckily for you karaoke had started. It was quite literally one of your favorite things to do. But what song would you perform… you needed to make a statement. That’s when the perfect song went off like a lightbulb in your head.
“Girls! It’s karaoke time!” you squeal. All your friends shout in excitement ushering you to the mic. Lando hearing the commotion makes his way towards you.
Your uncle, Carlos Sr., just so happened to be wrapping up his rendition of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’. You gave him a hip bump saying, “Tio pass the mic! It’s my turn”. You whisper to the DJ what song you’d like and prepare for your moment. One of the girls hands you a shot, and you hear Lando groan loudly from the back.
The music starts: ‘Four, tres, two, uno… Listen up y’all cause this is it, the beat that I’m bangin’ is delicious’
You begin singing with the girls as your backups.
“Fergalicious, definition make them boys go loco. They want my treasure, so they get their pleasures from my photo. You could see me, you can't squeeze me. I ain't easy, I ain't sleazy. I got reasons why I tease 'em. Boys just come and go like seasons. Fergalicious – so delicious.”
You smile as the crowd begins cheering. You felt your confidence reach new levels. So you step onto the coffee table in the middle of the room to really give them a performance.
“But I ain't promiscuous. And if you was suspicious. All that shit is fictitious. I blow kisses – mwah. That puts them boys on rock, rock. And they be lining down the block. Just to watch what I got. So delicious”.
Lando had seen enough. He knew you were going to be so embarrassed in the morning. He stomps up to the ‘stage’ and pulls you down.
“What are you doing?” he hissed as you tried to get back up. He secures you in his arms as he pulls you away from the crowd.
“I’m giving the fans what they want,” you slur. He can’t help but laugh at the situation. He had to admit you were singing pretty well and giving a good show.
You notice that he’s smiling and it makes your heart swell. “Are you jealous I’m not giving you my full attention?”, you say while batting your eyelashes at him.
“Shut up y/n…”, he smirks. You lean up to give him a kiss when all of a sudden Carlos appears.
“What the hell is this?”, he booms. Lando instantly unwraps his arms from you which had been supporting you and consequently leading you to drop to the floor.
“Oh shit babe!” Lando freaks as he picks you back up looking to see if you’re hurt.
“Babe? Again I ask, what the hell is this?” Carlos questions again. There was no getting out of this one. You begin trying to explain away the situation but Lando beats you to the punch.
“Mate… I love her. Like really truly love her”, Lando confesses. Your head snaps up to look at him shocked at what you’re hearing. “I know you threatened me if I ever got near her but.. I couldn’t help it. I obviously fell for her for her amazing karaoke skills”, he says with a straight face. This causes the three of you to burst into laughter.
Catching your breath, you grab Lando’s hand and say, “Seriously Carlos, we’re adults. I’m not your baby cousin anymore”. You look Carlos in the eyes hoping that he’ll understand.
“I don’t like it but I guess… if it had to be anyone. I’m fine with it being you Lando”, Carlos admits. Lando grins from ear to ear happily as he puts his arms around you. He’s still got his best friend and also his now, non-secretive girlfriend. All it took was a humiliating karaoke song.

…so the writing demons grabbed me by the throat this morning and wouldn't let me go until i wrote this. anyway @hasello the cousins au is living in my brain rent-free so i hope u don't mind that i took a crack at something first-meetings-y with rise and 03 and wound up with 2.5k words of the babies :D
The rat who once was Lou sprinted down the rain-slick alleyway with one arm clutching his boys to his chest and the other digging through his pockets.
"I saw it run this way!"
He bit back a curse; his pursuers were still hot on his trail.
And his tail.
Heh.
What a time to be alive.
The mystic key bumped against his fingers, and he quickly snatched it out of his pocket and darted to the nearest wall. He needed to be quick and precise.
…well, he at least managed speed. He spent too many precious seconds glancing back to watch the beams of light bounce ever higher just a turn away, so he really had no idea if his sigil was anywhere near accurate.
As if in answer to prayer, it lit up, opening a circular portal for him, and he leapt through without a second thought, pocketing the key as he fell.
His luck held out long enough for him to hear it close behind him without any of the humans chasing him shouting in surprise.
It did not hold out long enough to actually drop him into the Hidden City.
Instead, when the portal ended, he stumbled out into a long tunnel, directly in front of another rat with four humanoid turtles around them.
No-Longer-Lou froze like a deer in headlights, staring at the strangers and heaving for air.
The strangers all mirrored him, freezing in place and scanning him in all their various capacities.
The other rat spoke first: "My, isn't this unexpected?"
A snort forced its way from No-Longer-Lou against his will at that, though he quickly brought a hand (no, he had paws now) to his mouth to stifle it. "I- I'm so sorry, I just- I didn't mean to- This isn't where-!"
"Peace," said the other rat, carefully maneuvering the turtle in front of him a bit to the side and standing up. "Whatever circumstances brought you here, it is clear that you have been moved by the strings of fate, rather than by choices of your own design. You mean no harm to us, yes?"
"I-I- yes."
"And we mean no harm to you," soothed the other.
No-Longer-Lou breathed heavily for a moment more, but then his attention was quickly arrested by motion in his arms.
Raphael- the quickest to grow, but still so, so small- screwed up his face. "Papa?"
"I'm right here, Raphael," No-Longer-Lou murmured, reaching into the sling to give the boy's hand a squeeze.
The other rat's eyes widened at the name. "Now, that is a one-in-a-million chance, indeed."
"Why's he got a baby with my name?" demanded the turtle wearing a red mask over his eyes.
It was No-Longer-Lou's turn to be surprised. "Raphael? But then…"
He took in the colors of the masks on the other three turtle boys' faces.
Purple, blue, and orange.
"Donatello? Leonardo? M-Michelangelo?"
Silence.
At least, until the turtle boy in orange leaned over to his brothers and whispered loudly, "How does he know our names, dudes?!"
No-Longer-Lou's sons roused at their names, and he quickly realized his mistake as Michelangelo began to fuss. "Oh, oh, no, Michelangelo, please, it is alright, please don't-!"
Michelangelo may have been the youngest, but he had a record-shattering set of lungs, for sure.
The moment Michelangelo began to wail, Leonardo jumped in with him, refusing to be left out, and then Raphael was crying and Donatello was shoving his tiny head into No-Longer-Lou's chest with his hands over where his ears would have been and the rat could feel his own ears on the verge of bleeding-!
The other rat's back straightened, and he turned to the older turtle boys. "My sons, I still have some of the supplies I scavenged when you were tots. Raphael, the pacifiers. Leonardo and Donatello, the blankets. Michelangelo, the pillows."
The boys nodded seriously, wincing as the cries reached a peak before darting across the tunnel and digging through various chests and boxes. Meanwhile, the other rat carefully took No-Longer-Lou's arm and led him towards the chair the others had been gathered around in the first place. "Please, have a seat. I would quite like to hear the tale of how you came to this place-"
-an ear-splitting cry from Leonardo-
"-but first, we must calm your children," finished the other rat with a tired smile.
No-Longer-Lou nodded just as tiredly and began to gently bounce his boys. "There, there, your Papa is right here, we are all together, and…and we are safe."
The other rat's expression warmed.
"I got the pacifiers!" called the older boy named Raphael, charging back over and brandishing the four objects in one hand.
"Excellent work, Raphael," praised the other rat as he took the pacifiers.
The boy beamed.
"These should do for now," the other rat said, pressing one into No-Longer-Lou's paw. "These were enchanted by an old friend of mine to allow them to keep up with beaked babies."
No-Longer-Lou managed a weak smile at that, then carefully reached in to nudge the pacifier against Michelangelo's mouth. "Here we are, little Orange. Wouldn't it be nicer to suck on this instead of crying?"
Michelangelo hiccuped, but after a moment of what seemed like confusion, his mouth closed around the pacifier and he looked up at No-Longer-Lou with wide, wet eyes.
"One down, two to go," chuckled the other rat, handing off another pacifier. This one went to Leonardo, who contented himself quickly once he had something to do with himself. He seemed to be gnawing on the pacifier, rather than sucking on it, but No-Longer-Lou chalked it up to curiosity at the foreign object.
Surprisingly- or perhaps not- Donatello was the next one to need something to work with. Raphael began calming down after a few moments of being the only one still crying, but when Donatello caught sight of Leonardo messing with the pacifier, he turned an utterly betrayed stare up at No-Longer-Lou until he gave the boy one to fiddle with.
With the remaining pacifier in hand, No-Longer-Lou smiled wearily at Raphael. "You may be a bit big to use this, Red. Do you still want to try?"
Raphael nodded firmly. "Raphie's the big brother. Gotta be the bestest essample."
No-Longer-Lou handed the pacifier over, and…yep, it was completely dwarfed by his son. Still, his boy held it in his mouth and smiled over at Michelangelo when the two met eyes.
Michelangelo blinked, then smiled back.
"Blanket delivery!" called the bigger Donatello, carrying a pile of blankets nearly as tall as he was.
Next to him, his brother Leonardo fussed. "Donnie, I told you I could have held some!"
"Easy, Leonardo," chuckled the other rat, easily lifting the blankets from Donatello's hands. "How about you make sure our visitors are tucked in and comfortable?"
"Okay, Father," chirped Leonardo, immediately doing exactly that- and perhaps peeking into No-Longer-Lou's arms a few times to peer at his boys.
Little Raphael watched the bigger boy curiously, then said around the pacifier, "Raphie thought we were th'only turtle people."
The bigger Leonardo paused for a moment, then looked at him. "So'd we."
Leonardo- the baby- met the other Leonardo's eyes, then spat out his pacifier- and yes, it was much more chewed-on than before. "Hi! Hi, hi, hi! I'm Leo!"
The other Leonardo blinked, then grinned. "Me too. It's a good name, right?"
Little Leonardo nodded, shaking his entire body from the effort. "Daddy pickeded it!"
No-Longer-Lou chuckled. "Feeling better now, are we?"
Little Leonardo nodded again, just as energetically. "Mikey no sad no more!"
"Did somebody say Mikey?!" crowed the older boy of the same name, wildly waving pillows over his head as he ran over.
"Midey! Midey! Midey!" cheered the baby around his pacifier, flailing his arms.
"That's right, little dude!" Older Michelangelo grinned and peered over at him as soon as he skidded to a stop in front of No-Longer-Lou. "We're the mightiest!"
"MIDEYST!" shrieked the baby in glee.
Little Donatello winced and paused his inspection of his pacifier to glare witheringly at his youngest brother.
"Careful, Michelangelo," chastised No-Longer-Lou. "Your brother has sensitive hearing, remember?"
Baby Michelangelo blinked, then frowned very seriously and wiggled until he was able to grab Little Donatello's arm in a hug- or rather, a- "Dondon hubbub."
Little Donatello's glare softened, and he went back to fiddling with the pacifier with his free hand. It seemed the hinge on the back occupied more of his attention than the squishy part meant to be sucked on.
The older Michelangelo pressed the pillows in his hands to his face. "D'awww, they're so cute!"
No-Longer-Lou smiled warmly. "They are, aren't they?"
"It seems like we've established that we have similar taste in names," chuckled the other rat. "Though, just to be sure, might I ask yours?"
No-Longer-Lou's smile turned bitter. "It doesn't matter. I'm only a splinter of the man I used to be, anyway."
The other rat's eyebrows rose. "What curious phrasing. I never was a man, but the name I was given before my mutation by the family I was brought into was…well, Splinter."
No-Longer-Lou straightened in the chair at that. "Curious indeed…"
After a moment of thought, on a half-formed hunch born of one too many late night sci-fi movie marathons, he continued, "You know, before my own mutation, I'd more-or-less befriended a rat in my- well. A rat. I…I'd chosen the name Lou Jitsu years ago, but…the name I was given was Yoshi."
A shaky breath from Splinter. "…Hamato Yoshi?"
No-Longer-Lou steadfastly kept his focus on his boys. "I haven't deserved that name in a long time."
He kept the part about not wanting to be associated with his family's 'traditions' firmly unsaid.
"You okay, Papa?" asked Raphael, reaching up to pat at his face.
"I will be," No-Longer-Lou said, pressing a kiss to the boy's forehead.
Splinter gently laid a hand on No-Longer-Lou's shoulder. "I swear to you, you and your children will be safe here for as long as you need. I don't know how you came to be here, but I will help you return home if you so wish."
No-Longer-Lou nodded, thickness rising up in his throat and clogging it.
"Mr. Lou, can I see Baby Mikey?" asked the older Michelangelo, setting the pillows down.
Both rats' eyebrows rose, and Splinter asked, "Mr. Lou?"
"Well, if he doesn't use that Yoshi name, and we can't call him Splinter because you're Splinter, then he's Mr. Lou!" Older Michelangelo crossed his arms and nodded decisively, his point made.
Splinter and…and Lou met each other's eyes with equally bemused expressions, then Lou looked down at his boys. "I don't know. Orange, would you like to see Big Michelangelo?"
"Bihmidey!" Michelangelo said seriously, patting at Donatello's arm before wriggling upright and peeking out at the older boy. "Bihmidey hi?"
"Heh, yep," said Older Michelangelo, beaming widely. "Hi, li'l Mikey!"
The baby chirped excitedly, bouncing in place until Older Michelangelo reached over to pick him up. Lou watched carefully, but it seemed the older boy had at least some idea of how to hold a young child, as he easily hefted Little Michelangelo against his side.
"I wanna see the babies!" exclaimed Older Leonardo.
"Me too!"
"Yeah!"
Little Leonardo giggled and clambered out of Lou's arms too quickly for him to react. "Hey, hey, hi! I'm big boy!"
Older Raphael darted forward to keep Little Leo from tumbling to the ground. "You sure are, yeesh! Don't hurt yourself!"
Little Raphael whined. "Leo, don't fall down like that! You'll get a owie!"
"S'okay, Raphie!" Little Leonardo grinned up at his brother, then at Older Raphael. "There's two Raphies! That's even more Raphie! Gonna be saferest!"
Little Raphael whined again, but after a brief moment where Older Raphael's eyes grew suspiciously moist, the older boy blinked quickly before grinning at his younger double. "You heard 'im. I'll keep your bro outta trouble, swear."
Little Raphael scowled. "You better."
"Did you want to come out and keep an eye on them?" asked Older Leonardo knowingly.
That got a nod out of Little Raphael, and the older boy helped him climb down to the ground.
With only Donatello left in his arms, Lou couldn't find it in himself to be surprised when the older Donatello peered at the younger boy. "What about you, Tinytello? You wanna come hang out?"
Little Donatello hissed in displeasure and flipped the hinged handle on the pacifier up and down more quickly.
"I'm guessing that's a 'no,' then," said Lou. "It's nothing against you, I promise. Today has simply been…a lot."
"Oh, I can get that," agreed Older Donatello immediately. "Like, I dunno what you were doing before you came here, but it didn't look very fun. And now a bunch of big brother wannabes are getting all up in his space and playing with his bros without him? I'd be on-edge, too."
Little Donatello's handle-flipping stilled, and he shifted to look at Older Donatello's chest. (Wasn't there a turtle-specific word for that part of their shells…?)
"I'm close, huh?" asked Older Donatello. "Figured it'd be something like that. That's okay, Tinytello! Sounds like you've been having a rough time of it. Do you want me to go do something else, or should I stay put?"
Little Donatello's forehead furrowed for a moment, then he gravely held the pacifier out to the older boy.
Lou's brows shot up. "Huh. I know Purple is unique in many ways, but he usually isn't so quick to decide a stranger is worthy of a gift…even if that gift belonged to the stranger, first."
Little Donatello frowned when Older Donatello didn't immediately take the pacifier, then gave the handle a demonstrative flip before shaking the pacifier a little.
Older Donatello's eyes widened, and he carefully took the pacifier and gave the handle a tentative flip.
Little Donatello chirruped, shifting in place to get comfy in the crook of Lou's elbow in such a way as to keep watching the older boy.
Splinter chuckled as the two Donatellos went back and forth, flipping and chirping. "I do believe your son has found a new friend in mine."
Lou huffed a weak laugh of his own. "I suppose he has."
He took the opportunity to scan the tunnel- or rather, now that he had a moment to think, the room within the tunnel.
Little Raphael and Older Leonardo stood aside as Little Leonardo cartwheeled in circles, ooh-ing and aah-ing whenever the younger boy glanced their way. Older Raphael kept a hawklike eye on the toddler, constantly circling around him to place himself between Leonardo and the nearest obstacles. Older Michelangelo hopped around the room, bouncing the baby with each hop and getting the both of them to giggle madly.
Little Donatello yawned contentedly and smushed the side of his face against Lou's arm, still watching Older Donatello bemusedly flip the handle of the pacifier.
Lou felt the adrenaline that had kept him moving for the past hour finally begin to drain, and it quickly became a struggle to keep his eyes open.
Splinter's hand came down on his shoulder and gave it a squeeze. "Rest, Lou. You and your sons are safe here. The rest can wait for now."
Lou nodded tiredly, and his eyes fluttered shut before he could have any further say in the matter.

First I wanted to say I and adore all of your writing! And if requests are still open, maybe one where theres the fake engagement trope
Oh dear! ^.^*
This one's specific! I hope I do it justice!
Masterlist
Part one will include Hyrule, Wind and Four
Content under cut!
Hyrule
"Of course we're married!" The words left your mouth before you truly registered what you were saying.
Both of you freeze and share a look even when the face of the local wasn't convinced.
You start blush something fierce. "Ok... we're not married-"
"Yet." Hyrule blurts, also blushing up a storm. "We're not married yet. We'll be wed in the summer."
You nod, adding along to the fib. You're grateful that he's playing along but you also have no idea what you're doing.
The local shakes their head. "And you decided to come to our village in the meantime? With all yooouuur..."
"Family. Brother's. Cousin's. Their Uncle." Hyrule grins awkwardly. "They wouldn't just let us come on our own."
"I see..." Said in the tone of someone who does, in fact, not see. "Chaperones for the lucky couple then?"
"Something like that." You agree, shrugging slightly.
"Well then, I suppose that you'll try to have some time to yourselves, right?" The glint in the stranger's eyes changes tone and you find that you're not entirely sure if like where they're going with this.
"...yeah..." Hyrule looks over to you for confirmation. "Something like that."
"Well I can help you set up your rooms at the inn." They grin, seemingly innocent. "That way everything will all be set up and they would have no reason to bother you two."
"Oh, that's a lovely offer..." You scramble to try and get this guy off of your tail. "But we wouldn't want to be a burden."
"Nonsense!" They chuckle. "I'm the owner. Come on. Let me check you all in. I'll even give a discount for the first three nights."
You can already hear Legend's voice yelling at you in the back of your head. Whether it's for finding yourself in this situation to begin with, or for not jumping on the deal as fast as you should, you're not sure yet. Maybe it's both.
"Th-thank you." Hyrule nods, squeezing your hand tighter. "We appreciate it."
You nods in agreement, following the stranger through the town and into the inn where they look up their available room for your group to stay the next couple of days.
"And one room for the couple." They hand you the keys to your room separately with conspiring wink.
The blush on your faces is real. "Thank you, again. Kindly."
"Anytime you find yourselves back in our humble village, just come to my inn!" They say proudly.
You sigh internally. How long will you have to put up this act?
"Honey! Who are you talking to?" A voice shouts from the back.
"A newlyweds." They grin. "Gave them a discount on a room since their whole family is visiting too."
"Oh how nice!"
You cringe further. There's no way you're going to be able to keep this to yourselves. You can hear the teasing now. It's going to be a long three days.
Wind
"It's not like you're going to have anybody that likes you anyway." A bully taunts you, pushing you hard enough for you to fall over.
You grit your teeth, bracing for impact. They kick your leg while you're down. You make no verbal reply
"What are you going to do about it?" Another mimics the kick as you try to stand up again. You fall harshly onto your knee. Something tears and you can feel the spot begin to grew wet and warm.
"Leave me alone." You say through gritted teeth. You can feel your eyes begin to tear up. You try your hardest to keep them down but between the pain, both emotional and physical, you're unable to keep them at bay for every long.
"Oh look they're crying!"
"Shut up!" A voice cries out. It's enraged and near and familiar. "Get away from them!"
"Hey!" They scream. "You can't just bring a sword around these parts!"
You wince and look up. Wind is standing over you. One hand is covering you while the other holds his sword, pointing it at the bullies around you.
"Take it from me then." Wind spits. Literally. Right into the leader's eye.
He jumps back, using one hand to wipe it off of his face. "I'm going to tell."
"I saw you kick them." Wind growls. "Twice. I saw you deserve it."
They all shift awkwardly and even jump away when Wind fakes a strike. "Leave."
He doesn't need to say it again.
You sniffle and pick yourself up, looking over your injuries. "I'm bleeding."
Wind drops down next to you to check it out himself. He looks sad. "I'm sorry I wasn't fast enough.... But Hyrule can fix you up. Come on, I'll help you."
You sigh, hitting the ground pathetically in defeat. "I'm fine... Just don't tell Twilight."
Wind frowns. He might actually do that.
You sniffle and stand, brushing yourself off. The tears that you can't fully fight back roll down your cheeks. "It's not like they said anything wrong."
"What did they say?" Wind uses his sleeve to dry your tears. He's not going to say that they hit you, even if they did. It's clear that not what hurt the most.
"Look at me." You laugh pathetically and gesture to yourself. "They said that I was never going to get married because no one would want to marry me.... And like.... I don't have to get married....but I would like someone to like me-"
"I like you." Wind frowns.
"No, Link. Not like that-"
"I'll marry you." He scrunches his eyebrows, fully serious. "When we get big enough, I'll find you again and marry you. I promise."
You cough and shake your head. "That's not how it works."
"I'll make it work." Wind grins, taking your hand. "Now let's go find the others and teach those bullies a lesson."
"Wait- what?"
"Let's go!"
"Wind, wait!"
Four
"I know I promised you that I was going to help you with this but you're going to have to explain the plan to me again." You adjusted the clothes around you for what had to be the nth time already.
Four looked just as uncomfortable as you felt, which honestly, helped you feel a little bit better about going into this. He huff and puffed and adjusted his hair time and time again. Somehow, you had always missed that his headband always seemed to cover up a cowlick and since his hair was in a ponytail for the evening, that little cowlick was giving him a reason to panic ever so slightly.
You lick your thumb and brush over it to help him out. "The plan?"
"Ri-right." Four clears his throat and pulls out a map of sorts. There's writing on it but it's not like you know how to read that. "The entrance is here. The others will meet up here at the this gate. From there we want to act as naturally as possible that that both you and I can get passed the guards and get into the building. The guys will be a distraction."
You nod. "Do you think they'll blow something up?"
"Most likely."
"We can never come here again after this."
"Oh yeah."
You grin and stick out your hand. "Ready?"
Four seems to look at your for a moment before he registers that you're waiting for him. "Yes, yes! Coming."
He takes your hand and take a deep breath. "Let's make this quick."
You both enter the party together, arm in arm with large smiles on your faces. You don't have a problem with mingling or finding the gate to let the rest of your group. But you quickly run into a problem.
Neither of you made a cover story.
"Well don't the two of your look lovely!" Another guest stops you in your tracks. An older woman with bright eyes and a kind face. "Are you related?"
"Husband."
"To be."
You both look at each other in various states of shock. That wasn't part of the plan! Why did you just say that!?
The woman swoons slightly. "Oh how romantic, I remember when I was your age. My husband and I used to talk for hours about the time when we would truly be wed-"
You both share awkward smiles. You don't wish to be rude, but your distraction will be coming any moment nd you need to take advantage of it.
"Ever since my husband died, I've been thinking about how he used to always come to my rescue." She sniffles. "Well, just the other day-"
The explosions happens. Screams and manical laughter fill the soon to be smoke covered room.
"We need to head to safety ma'am." Four grabs your hand and her, and drags her the edge of the room. "Stay here, we'll go get help."
You do not get help.
You continue with your plan to collect some stolen items to continue with your quest. Four's hand has a tight grip on your the entire time. His cheeks are pink and your chest feels warm and light.
Surely you didn't have anything to drink tonight, right?
You look at your hand as you look through the rooms.
Neither of you hesitated to say that.... Doesn't sound so bad when you think about it some more.

Can it just be really angsty and fluffy at the same time🤭🤭

Prove Her Wrong
pairing: Dawn Treader!King Caspian x Pevensie!fem!reader warnings: angst obviously, dw it's also fluffy, mentions of drowning (no one actually does, but it feels like it for a moment), amicable banter, pining, regretting decisions, use of y/n (I'm so sorry) summary: both you and caspian have been miserable a/n: aahh, I love this idea so much! Also, thank you for giving me an excuse to watch the movies again, really needed that. I did kind of twist the plot to make it fit better, but I hope you like it nonetheless. Sorry it took this long to write it, my schedule's been packed for the last couple of weeks, I hope the fic makes up for it. wc: 2.6k

It had all happened too fast to comprehend. One second, you're standing in your cousin's room looking at a painting. The next, you're engulfed in a massive ocean trying to keep your head above the surface.
Too busy looking for the younger children, you hadn't even noticed the change in the atmosphere. Everything had gotten a little brighter, the air more fresh, the sky more clear. But you were preoccupied trying to make it out alive as the currents tried to pull you below the surface.
"Lucy!? Edmund!?" You yell out with what little breath you had left. "Eustace!? Anyone, where are you!?"
Somewhere to your right (or left, seeing as you had no sense of direction anymore), you heard a faint voice you recognised as your younger sister calling out for you.
"Lucy!" You manage to get out as you try to swim towards her. As you come closer, you were able to make out the two boys as well.
"What happened, where are we?" Eustace calls out, arms flailing around him as he tries to keep his head above water.
You share a fleeting look with your younger brother and sister, and something in your gut tells you you know exactly where you are.
"We're back, aren't we?" Edmund asks, confirming your suspiscion. But before you can answer his question, a ship dooms up, and it was approaching you rapidly.
"Swim!" You shouted, trying to put a safe distance between you and the ship while also trying to keep the others closeby.
You heard a few loud plunges into the water, and when you turned around for a moment, you saw some of the crewmembers swimming towards you. A moment later, you felt a pair of strong hands wrap around your waist.
"It's alright, I've got you." An all too familiar voice reassures you. You turned around, only to be met with a slightly older version of the man you had been forced to leave behind the last time you had left Narnia.
"Caspian..." You say breathlessly as you look into his eyes.
"Y/n..." He responds, equally out of breathe and clearly both surprised and confused to see you here.
Together with the other crewmates, he helps you onto the ship, even Eustace who is screaming fire and demanding to back to England. Someone hands you a warm blanket, which you gladly accept and drape around your shoulders. You glance at Caspian, and for a moment your gazes lock, before he is pulled away by Edmund.
"Did you call for us?" He asks, to which Caspian shakes his head.
"No, I didn't. Not this time, at least," Caspian answers, glancing over to you once more as he does.
You're interrupted by a shrieking Eustace, who is swatting away a large mouse sitting on his chest.
"Get this filthy animal off of me!" He screeches as he scrambles backwards.
"Pretty sure that mouse is far cleaner than you are, Eustace," You say as you roll your eyes and shake your head. "It's good to see you again, Reepicheep."
"It is a delight to see you as well, Your Majesties," He responds, bowing down for a moment.
Caspian walks up to the stairs that lead to the quarterdeck and addresses the crew. "Men, behold our castaways: Edmund the Just, Lucy the Valient and Y/n the Righteous; High King and Queens of Narnia."
All the men on the ship went down on their knees and bowed deeply in respect of you. No matter how many times you had been called Queen, it always sent shivers down your spine.
Caspian led the three of you towards the King's quarters, which doubled as his study, leaving Eustace in the care of the crew, who had fainted when he had seen Tavros the minotaur. You had been given some dry clothes that fit you like a glove, although your shirt was a little big and had a vaguely familiar scent to it.
In the middle of the room, a huge map of Narnia was sprawled out across the table. You scanned over it, your finger absently tracing the coastal lines as you lightly smiled to yourself. You wouldn't admit it out loud, but you had missed being here when you were back in England.
With Peter and Susan off to America, you been left to stay at your aunt and uncle's house with your younger siblings. At first, you had thought it wildly unfair to be stuck in England whilst your older brother and twin-sister got to live with your parents across the Atlantic ocean.
Eventually, you had calmed down and accepted your fate. Most of the time, you could be found lightly fidgeting with the one possession you had been able to take back with you from your last adventure in Narnia; a simple silver ring you kept on a piece of string around your neck. It reminded you of a time where you didn't feel like the second option, a feeling that haunted you often when being compared to your twin.
"It has been three years since we won Narnia back from my uncle," Caspian explains as he points towards the map, "There is peace in the entire country now."
"And have you found yourself a Queen in those three years?" Lucy asks, making you look up from the map. She truly didn't mean any harm with the question, but Edmund lightly nudges her side and gives her a stern look.
"No," Caspian says with a light chuckle to alleviate the tension, "not one to compare with your sister..."
"Hang on," Edmund interrupts, "But if there's no wars to fight, and no one's in trouble... then why are we here?"
"That's a good question. I've been asking myself the same thing," Caspian answers. "Before I tried to take the throne back from my uncle, he went after my father's closest advisors, the seven Lords of Telmar. They fled to the Lone Islands, but no one has heard from them since."
"So you think something's happened to them?"
"Well, if it has, it's my duty to find out," Caspian says rather solemnly. He looks over at you, trying to get a read on you, but your eyes are glued to the map in front of you.
"What's east of the Lone Islands?" Lucy asks, pointing towards the map where it just says The Great Eastern Ocean.
"Unchartered waters," Drinian, the captain, answers. "Things you could barely imagine. Tales of sea serpents and worse..."
"Sea serpents?" Edmund asks, his face lighting up at the sound of something dangerous to battle against.
"Alright, Captain, that's enough of your tall tales," Caspian interrupts. "You are free to go wherever you want on this ship, it is as much yours as it is mine."
It's a silent cue for Edmund and Lucy to go with the captain and explore the ship, while you stay in the quarters, leaning against the table, your eyes still locked on the parchment. After the door shuts, Caspian speaks up once again.
"Can you at least look at me?" He asks, his voice much softer and hesitant now. "Please?"
You lightly sigh as you look up at him, your eyes instantly finding his. "I'm sorry I left," You say truthfully, even though you sound rather defeated.
"Don't apologise, I- I shouldn't have asked you to stay." This time, it's Caspian who lets his head fall and gaze upon the map. "I knew you couldn't, yet I asked you anyway. I am sorry, for putting you in that position, that was selfish."
"It's alright," You somewhat reassure him, "Aslan knows I would have been just as selfish had roles been reversed. But we can't change the past, and we mustn't let it stand in the way of our future." You take a deep breath as you take a step closer to him. "You deserve a bright future filled with happiness, Caspian. Don't let me stand in the way of that by holding onto something that can't be."
It's the right thing to say, the logical thing to say. You're from a different world, there's no way of knowing if you'll be able to stay in this one after the adventure is over. It guts you to the core to walk out of the King's quarters, it tears your heart apart, but you try to shake it off as you go out onto the main deck.
Luckily for you, you're able to take your mind off of it when you notice your cousin Eustace talking to a regular seagull.
"What on Earth are you doing talking to a bird?" You say, a somewhat smug tone laced in your voice. You're called the Righteous, not the Humble, and for good reason.
"I just assumed that-" Eustace begins, his face turning a light shade of pink.
"That just because a mouse can talk, so must a bird?" Maybe it's a coping mechanism for the shattered heart in your chest, but you let out a light chuckle. "Oh cousin, you have a lot to learn about how things work here. Good to know you can't claim to be the smartest person in every realm." You shake your head and hear a few crewmen chuckle along.
The sky gets darker as the evening falls, and the crew celebrates the your arrival with festive spirits. Sea shanties are sung, dancing goes hand in hand with a lot of laughter and a couple of bottles of liquor are brought out.
Despite the gloomy thoughts that have been haunting you for the day (and the days before that), you laugh and leap along with the crewmen. Even Eustace loosens up a little, although keeping it modest. The only one who seems unaffected by the joyious celebrations is the king, who sits on the staircase and watches the others, or rather, watches you.
At some point, he is joined by Lucy, who due to her young age can't participate in the drinking and adult activities. She sits down next to him and keeps quiet for a little while, before speaking up.
"What's bothering you, Caspian?" She asks softly. "Is it the Lords?"
"For the first time in a long time, it actually isn't, my friend," He says truthfully, letting out a sigh. "It feels like even when she is this close, she is still worlds away."
He didn't have to say your name in order for Lucy to understand. It's the same way you didn't need to mention his whenever she would find you staring mindlessly at the wall or out the window back in England. You would always have that same tragic look in your eyes while you fidgeted with the ring around your neck, no matter how hard you would try to mask it whenever Lucy got your attention.
"You know, she feels the same way right now," Lucy responds, feeling incredibly sorry for both your misery.
"She's evidently better at coping with it than I am." The words came out more bitter than intended, but Lucy couldn't really blame him.
"Out here, maybe. But back in England," She refrained from saying 'back at home', never having been able to call it home when she had missed Narnia too much. "Back in England, she was a mess. A beautiful, poised and collected mess, but crumbling down on the inside."
Caspian didn't speak up, but simply looked sorry and felt even more remorseful than he already had.
"She kept the ring, you know," Lucy continues, "Oh, she would never say it out loud, but it was obvious she regretted leaving Narnia, leaving you most of all. I'm pretty sure she would give anything to stay this time around, if you'd ask her again."
"She told me to let go of a future with her, said she didn't want to stand in the way of my happiness," Caspian argues solemnly, "Sounded a lot like she wanted to move on from all of this."
"That's what she thinks is the right thing to do, because it makes more sense," Lucy counters. "Prove to her that it isn't."
With that, she stands up from the stairs and walks out into the crowd. Turning around one last time, she says:
"Oh, and maybe do something about the beard, it might remind her of the man she fell in love with."
Caspian lightly rolls his eyes at her comment, but decides to take her up on it nonetheless when he retired to the barracks below deck. For the sake of privacy, he had given his quarters to you and Lucy to stay in while you were on the ship.
Later that night, when everyone was passed out in their beds, Caspian went onto the deck to get some fresh air, where he soon notices you, leaning on the railing while you looked up at the stars.
"Still having trouble sleeping?" He asks as he stands next to you.
"Insomnia doesn't go away so easily, it seems," You softly chuckle, having to do a double take when you notice he has shaved. "I was almost getting used to that beard, but I'm glad you shaved it off any way."
"What is it with the hostility against my facial hair?" Caspian comments as he raises an eyebrow at you. "I thought it made me look ruggedly handsome."
"Who'd you have to look ruggedly handsome for before we showed up today?" You ask in a mocking way, making you lightly snicker when Caspian takes on a defensive tone. "Oh, stop it, I was merely teasing."
"Teasing, are you now?" He asks, a mischievous glint sparking up in his eyes as he leans in just a little. "That's not very Queen-like behaviour, now is it?"
You lightly sigh, letting your head fall for a moment before you speak up. "Perhaps I've gotten a bit rusty," You note, "I haven't been a Queen for a while now, you know?"
"Oh, don't worry, it's like riding a horse," Caspian assures you, "It's not something you can unlearn, even if you don't practice anymore."
"Well, maybe it's a good thing. Might make the next time I leave more easy..."
"You're still planning on leaving after this adventure?" Caspian asks, his voice growing a little more quiet. "You can stay, you do know that, right? You did the first time, surely you can-"
"Caspian, please," You interrupt him, pushing away from the railing and taking a few steps back, "It's too difficult, you know that. I can't just leave my family behind, and I can't ask them to stay."
"You don't have to do that. I am certain there's a way for you to move freely between realms," Caspian suggests, "And if there isn't, we'll find a way. Somehow, things like this have a way of working out."
He takes a step towards you, reaching out but refraining from touching you just yet. "Besides," He continues, "Time goes by much slower there than it does here right? We can figure this out and they won't even notice you're not there."
He searches for your eyes as he takes another step towards you, a silent longing in his eyes as he does. "You don't have to come with an answer right now. Whether it's tomorrow, next week or at the very last second, I don't care as long as you're certain that whatever you choose is something you actually want, not what you think is right."
You close your eyes for a moment and take a deep breath. "Okay," You say after a while. Your eyes are still closed, but a small creeps up on your lips.
"Okay?" Caspian echoes, his eyes sparking up, even though he's not sure he heard you correctly.
"Yeah," You say, opening your eyes to look into his. "Okay, I'll stay. But I might change my mind if you don't come here and kiss me, because-"
Luckily, he cuts you off mid-sentence by pulling you in and effectively using his lips to shut you up. You can feel him smile against your lips, and you can't help but reciprocate the gesture while your hands run up into his hair.

NEXT CHAPTER | SERIES MASTERLIST
NUEVA YORK 2099; EARTH-298
Let’s do this one last time.
My name is Miguel O’Hara… and I’m scared.
Tumblr media
You couldn’t breathe, the speed of your heart rate nearly caused you to believe you were going into cardiac arrest. Some small part of your brain wanted to actually check. It wasn’t hard to simply waltz right into the nearest hospital. Although dealing with the disbelief on doctors and nurses faces as you asked them to check if you were dying pushed you away from the idea altogether.
Another day at a job that didn’t allow you to have anything, left you seeking out the only thing you knew would help. An old dive bar still resided in the lower part of the city—The Nest, or as the owner called it El Nido—as local folk often referred to it. Although you were more than happy to call it a safe haven.
Everything was so pristine where you worked, so perfect. But The Nest was simply a small hole in the wall that helped people find a spot to feel safe for an hour or two. You tended to avoid going there on weekdays, but seeing as how you were about to be fired from your job…you felt it was necessary.
Sighing, you hitched your bag up higher on your shoulder, the weariness from the day finally settling its weight over you. What you wouldn’t give to be asleep right now, curled up in bed. Except you couldn’t go home. Not when all that remained was the dreaded time spent waiting for tomorrow. The day they would more than likely—officially—ask you to leave.
“Sorry,” you muttered, accidentally slamming into a woman walking hand in hand with her partner. The man glared at you, the gaze enough for you to quicken your step towards your destination.
The smell of the bar was exactly the same. Ricky always loved incense, and while you claimed it would drive customers away, he somehow made it work. Letting out a calming breath, you headed right towards your stool at the bar. The worn in leather a comfort after sitting in a stiff backed office chair all day. It was partially ripped and practically ruined, but you could already feel the stress melt off your body.
“Mi florita!” Ricky shouted, handing off a drink to an older man with white hair.
“Hey Ricky—oof—” He leaned across the bar, dragged you closer, and planted a sloppy kiss on your cheek. His breath was tinged with cinnamon and a hint of mint—letting you know he’d been drinking his favorite tea all day.
Nonetheless you smiled at his kind gesture. Ricky was like the cousin you had never had, but always wanted. Standing at around six feet with tattoos going up and down his tanned arms and his hair chopped into a mess of wild curls, he was your favorite person. The one you always sought out in times of trouble, if anything just to laugh. Unfortunately he couldn’t say the same for you. He loved his boyfriend too much to put you higher up on the scale—or so he claimed.
“How’s the job?” He poured you a martini, extra dry, extra dirty. “Are you playing nice with all the fancy folk?”
You chuckled, taking a sip and letting the alcohol burn its way down. “The fancy folk are slowly driving me insane.”
“Uh oh.”
Another sip caused yet another part of your stress to fade. “I don’t understand why it’s so hard for them to give me the same leniency they offer to other employees.” You sighed, dragging a hand down your face. “I mean it won’t matter anyways tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?” Ricky slid a drink to the person sitting a stool away from you, taking the small amount of cash he offered.
“The day I’m probably gonna get fired.”
“What?” he exclaimed, nearly causing the glass of whiskey in front of him to spill over.
You shrugged. “It’s not a big deal. I can just…find a new place to work at. I mean there has to be other labs in need of a biochemist. Right?”
He hesitated, his eyes flickering to the bottle in his hands. “Florita…” Your stomach dropped, the severity of the situation finally dawning on you—turning your once rose hued glasses clear.
They were going to ask you to leave and because it was Alchemax, there was no other option but for you to beg for forgiveness. An act you had sworn to yourself that you’d never do. You were a good scientist. Hell you were the best in that fucking lab, yet they couldn’t see past the fact that you wanted to go your own way. To carve your own path in a company that was adamant on placing you in a box. Keeping you perfectly pristine for those on the outside—those that might wish to give you freedom.
Holding up your hand, you stopped him from saying anything else. If shit was meant to go sideways tomorrow, then so be it. You’d go out like a champion, worthy of whatever came next. Downing the remainder of your drink you slid the empty glass towards Ricky, nodding at him to fill it up. At least with that he didn’t hesitate, knowing you needed something to take the edge off—your night already taking a turn for the worst.
“Just gotta keep going,” you muttered, staring at the liquid in the hopes that it would magically fix everything.
“You got this chica.” Words that seemed empty at a time like this somehow brought a small smile to your lips.
Taking another sip you thanked him softly and watched him wander off to the other side of the bar, his eyes set on a group of men that were most likely there to buy out the bar. It happened every once in a while, but you couldn’t exactly fault them. They were here to have fun, to make an otherwise regular night memorable. They certainly weren’t here to wallow in their drinks, swallowing down their misery in the hopes of finding something good to take away.
“Shit,” you muttered when you came to the bottom of the glass again, your finger tracing the rim.
“Firing a biochemist is the stupidest thing a lab could do.”
You jumped when someone’s voice came from beside you—the man a stool away now focusing the entirety of his attention on you. Perhaps it was the vodka or the low neon lights of the bar, but you could have sworn his eyes were red. The color so striking it sent a chill down your spine—as if he was analyzing you with one simple glance. For a second you forgot he even said anything—too busy taking in his soft brown hair and strong jaw—until his lips quirked up into a grin.
One that made your heart flip in your chest, heat rising beneath your cheeks.
“Eavesdropping?” you inquired, gathering enough courage to confront him about his blatant behavior.
His lips pulled up on one side, something glimmering in his eyes that had you hooked the longer he looked at you. “Lo siento,” he said softly—his voice slightly mumbled. “Didn’t mean to. I just heard you talking about something that interests me.”
“Ah.” You glanced away to escape his penetrating stare, if for a chance to catch the breath in your lungs. “So you’re a scientist.”
Pride bloomed in your chest when he was caught off guard. His glass halfway to his mouth when the statement left your mouth. Once again that mysterious light flickered to life again, a soft chuckle leaving his lips and causing your heart to erratically beat in your chest. Taking a sip, he gently set the now empty glass back on the bar. The tension was so thick you swore you could slice it in half, heat spilling into your body.
“You’re observant.”
Shrugging, you took your own sip—the alcohol no longer burning your throat. “It wasn’t hard to figure out. What else from that conversation would interest you?”
“You.”
The words were out of his mouth before you could even finish the question, your breath catching at the sound of them. Your day had been shit. Enough to rival doomsday itself, but there you were sitting at a bar with him. A man who’s name you didn’t know. The smile spread across your lips before you could stop it, your eyes roving down his figure in an attempt to make him feel half of what he stirred in you.
“Let me buy you a drink?” you asked, pointing to his empty glass.
“I thought I was supposed to ask you that?”
Your smile widened. “Then ask me.”
For the second time that night he was caught off guard, his eyes widening slightly. The song behind you shifted, a low tune you could feel reverberating through you as he changed seats, taking the stool directly beside you. He moved silently, his thighs pressed tightly against yours as he got comfortable in the spot—his arm brushing yours.
The first thing you noticed was how warm he was—as if his body was a personal heater. But that was pushed out of your mind, replaced by the second thing. He looked at you clearly, hair falling onto his forehead slightly until you finally saw it. The actual color of his eyes. Crimson irises caught you in their hold, keeping you until he was satisfied—drinking you in, he trailed his gaze over the entirety of your body.
“Can I buy you a drink?” he murmured, his breath fanning across your face, body unconsciously leaning in.
You inhaled sharply, watching as his eyes lit up at your reaction to his proximity, his hand sliding closer until his fingers brushed against your wrist. Suddenly your shitty day was but a mere memory in the back of your mind. Entirely forgotten in favor of him. He was so large you swore he blocked everything else, filling your eyesight with nothing else but his frame. The breadth of his shoulders, the length of his torso and how he had to hunch over slightly to get close to you.
“What’s your name?” you inquired finally, your words breathy and dazed.
He grinned, hand curving around your wrist and pulling your hand towards him. “What’s yours?”
“I asked you first.”
Leaning in so close until you felt his chest brush your shoulder, his lips met your ear, sending chills down your spine. “Miguel,” he breathed, smiling at the way you practically melted into him.
For a brief moment you forgot you were sitting in the middle of a bar, people surrounding the two of you. When in fact it felt like nothing remained except you and him and the song playing behind you. Your exhale was shaky, representing the way you felt on the inside. As if he’d pulled you apart with a single word, his body heat affecting your brain—turning it to mush.
“Miguel…” Your hand curved around the front of his jacket, eyes meeting his as he moved, brushing his lips across your cheek.
“Hm?”
Something heady built in your chest, solidifying the truth you knew the second you started talking to him. You wouldn’t be leaving this bar alone. You simply hoped he was on the same page as you, but the way he hooked his arm around your waist, thighs bracketing your frame told you everything you needed to know. He was not only on the same page; he was flipping forward, reading a future that had yet to occur.
You almost wanted to ask him if he liked what he saw. If—by some odd chance—there was something more than this fiery electricity between the two of you.
“You still want that drink bebita?”
Words evaded you the longer he sat there, filling the space with nothing but him. How he smelled, how he sounded, fuck even the way his lips felt dragging against your skin as he spoke. You wanted to ask where he came from. How you’d never seen him in this bar before—your life now altered because of something so small. Simply a conversation. Yet now you couldn’t see yourself ending the night without him.
“No,” you sighed, shifting until your lips were a hairsbreadth from his. “You?”
He shook his head.
“I…” Your teeth dug into your bottom lip. “I don’t usually do this.”
Grinning, he raised your chin slightly with his knuckle, eyes catching you once more in their web, snaring you in a trap so saccharine you could taste it on your tongue. “Your pace.”
And with two simple words you were his. Captured happily in something you never wanted to be rid of. You smiled, your other hand sliding up into his hair, and finally the weight of your day lifted entirely off your shoulders. The question of whether or not he wanted to kiss you was on the tip of your tongue, but like before…he was miles ahead of you. With a small grin, he tipped your face towards his, catching your lips in a kiss you felt down to your fingertips.
He didn’t kiss you gently, languidly taking his time as if you were both here until the sun went up. No, that was nothing like what you expected. He devoured you. Stole every gasp, sound, and sigh you could have let out; his hand holding you exactly where he wanted you. Miguel kissed you like you were his only source of oxygen. And you let him. You bent to his will with ease, giving into every touch.
Whining softly, you tugged sharply on his hair when his tongue swept across your bottom lip. The taste of his drink now seeping into your mouth. You didn’t even question letting him in, desperate to know what he tasted like—what his tongue felt like licking deeply into you. Shivers ran down your spine when his hand gripped your hip tightly, pulling you closer until you sat on the very edge of the stool.
“Fuck,” he rumbled, pulling away and sliding his lips along your jaw.
“Oh…” Your breath was a sharp gasp when his fingers trailed down your throat, cupping it so quickly you could have sworn you imagined it. But the heat that spilled into your stomach told you otherwise.
His lips were heaven on your skin, nipping and licking until you were sure that certain spots would be tender tomorrow morning. You didn’t care. He could have sunk his teeth directly into your neck and you’d still ask for more. Somewhere in between talking and the tension, you lost any sense of worry. Those feelings went out the window the second he moved closer.
“I um—” Pushing at his chest, you reluctantly parted with the realization that you were still in public, and fucking against the bar would certainly make Ricky ban you for life. So he fell back, his lips swollen and spit slicked—pupils blown wide until the black began to bleed into the red. A swirl of brilliant color.
He smirked, taking in your disheveled appearance, all thanks to him. You had half a mind to drag him back to the bathroom, but the burning glare of Ricky was currently being seared into the side of your head. Without a doubt you knew it said: “You fuck in my bar you’re not coming back.” So you gathered whatever control you had over yourself and downed the remainder of your now tepid drink.
“My apartment is two blocks from here,” you began, exhaling a shaky breath as you finally took the leap for what you wanted. “We can be there in five minutes.”
Miguel nodded, yanking out his wallet and tossing down enough cash to cover not only his drinks, but yours as well. Which was your sign to grab your things. No words had to be said, because the intent was clear to the both of you. He was here to find the same relief you were—something to take his mind off of life for a little while.
Waving a quick goodbye towards Ricky, you followed Miguel out of the bar into the cool night air of the city. You were beneath the depths of the main part, where people didn’t necessarily travel to. But you’d grown up there. It remained a place where you still felt like you belonged. He didn’t say anything, he didn’t have to. Not when the intentions for the night were clear to both of you. But that didn’t stop him from reaching down and slipping your hand into his, clasping your fingers together as you walked down the street.
Such a small act of tenderness—barely noticeable to anyone walking past—but meant so much more.
“What brought you to El Nido?” you asked, leading him down the street where your apartment building resided. It wasn’t a drastic question, but you couldn’t help your curiosity.
You were a scientist after all.
He shrugged, thumb running along your knuckles. “Needed a night out.”
“Let me guess…” You turned—walking backwards the best you could—regarding him with a suspicious expression. The small smile on his lips caused your heart to thump a little faster. “You’re getting fired tomorrow too?”
For the first time that night you heard him laugh. The sound, soft and low and by all means something you wanted to hear over and over again.
“No.” He took in a breath, his crimson eyes searching the dark streets for nothing in particular—the hair on the back of his neck suddenly standing up. “I’m…trying to figure out something.”
“A problem?”
He sighed. “You could say that.”
“Well I think—”
You didn’t get to finish your sentence, his arm jerking you forward until you fell into his chest, wrapped tightly to him as a horn echoed loudly behind you. A car sped past, turning rapidly onto the street and disappearing around the corner—leaving the both of you in silence. Your breath came in quickly, eyes wide as fear ran streaked your body, turning you cold. And Miguel watched after the car, his eyes narrowed and body tensed—as if he was ready to take off after them.
That is until he felt your hands press against his chest softly, drawing his attention back to you.
“T-Thank you,” you gasped, trying to calm the adrenaline that rushed through you.
There was no mistaking what would have happened if he hadn’t pulled you close; if his reflexes hadn’t kicked in so quickly. You wanted to ask him how he did it. How he knew the car was coming, but the words were trapped in the back of your throat. The shock had started to flood your system. His hand cupped your cheek, thumb running along your jaw in a soothing motion that seemed to slow the panic filtering through your body. You wondered if he even knew he was doing it—the touch yet another reflex to slow the racing of your heart.
To bring you back down to Earth.
“Okay?” he murmured, his eyes tracing the curve of your face, watching your eyelids flutter for a moment as you met his gaze once more.
You nodded, lightly gripping his wrist simply for the sake of comfort. “I’m okay.”
The night was no doubt effectively altered. Not necessarily ruined, but you couldn’t go on the way you were before. No teasing words, no light conversation. Instead you walked in silence. His hand clasped in yours and guard up in case of something else happening until you reached your place.
You were surprised to find that you enjoyed the silence while you walked. As if Miguel offered you a sense of safety and comfort you never had before; your body responding differently than you expected. Sure, you were attracted to him, but you couldn’t deny the pull you felt towards him when it came to this. To needing safety in the midst of possible danger.
“This is me,” you said, pulling out your key from your pocket—the hallway light dim and nearly extinguished. You had to remember to speak to the building manager about it tomorrow.
He grinned slightly, waiting patiently for the door to swing open with a soft creak as you entered. While you wouldn't call your small and rather overpriced apartment perfect, it felt more like a home than even he expected it to be. A small kitchen gave way into a bigger living room. Your record player was placed on top of an aged wooden table—piles of books stacked haphazardly through the place.
Miguel eyed the various plants you’d managed to keep alive—each of them pointed towards the one large window on the opposite wall. A place where sunlight no doubt streamed in on early mornings.
He originally believed it would look modern; more like the outside city and world as a whole. Yet your home resembled something old. A place that stood still against the ravages of time—as if it were merely a museum and he was there to admire its antiques.
“I know it’s not much.” You shifted a small pile of clean clothes off the chair, moving it towards an empty laundry basket in the hallway.
“It’s nice,” he said, and he actually meant it. “Es acogedor.”
You could see the truth in his eyes, the flicker of something familiar coming through the crimson. As if he’d known a life like this once. You wanted to ask him. See if he’d tell you more than just his name—perhaps why his eyes were that color—but you knew tonight wasn’t about making this more than it was. In reality you both needed this. No strings, no commitment. Merely two people looking to release themselves from the heaviness of the day.
He turned, catching you staring blatantly at him. “You want me to make you a drink?”
The question threw you off and your expression must have given you away—his lips curling into a grin. “I thought I was supposed to ask you that?”
Heat curled low in your stomach, spreading with every step he took until the tips of his shoes met yours. He bent down, hand curling around the nape of your neck, fingers digging in slightly. Chills spread down your spine, goosebumps rising along your arms, and for a brief moment you wanted to live in this. To remain oblivious to everything happening around you.
Everything except him.
He brought his lips closer, his breath washing across your cheek. “So ask me,” he breathed.
“Do you want me to—”
Cutting you off he dragged you closer, practically hauling you up to his chest as his lips covered yours. It sent your mind reeling, your hands digging into his hair as if on instinct. As if you knew exactly what he wanted. As if…you’d done this before. Something intoxicating built up in your body, turning your brain foggy when his hands slid down, cupping your ass and dragging a moan from your throat.
He met your sound with one of his own—a ragged grunt that came from low in his chest. The echo of it reverberating through your body. You knew what this was. What it wouldn’t become. Yet you couldn’t stop the longing in your heart—the yearning that refused to be locked away in your mind. You wondered what it would be like if this was more. Would it always feel this…electric?
Something pulled you together and you couldn’t determine what it was. Except at that moment you couldn’t even determine your own name.
His tongue swept in your mouth, shoving all your thoughts aside and bringing forth something new. A feeling so strong you found yourself grasping for him tighter, pulling him closer as he licked deeply into you—tasting the alcohol on your tongue.
“Bedroom,” you gasped, yanking on the strands of his hair and earning another delicious grunt.
“Donde—”
“Down the hall.”
Stumbling back you felt his hand hitch your leg over his hip, nearly dragging you with him. Yet you could hardly complain. You were pretty sure that if he let you go you’d go falling to the ground from his touch alone. He moved your head where he wanted, lips slotting over yours and spit nearly trailing down your chin. A rush of slick poured into your panties, your nails scratching along his scalp as he nearly hit the wall, pressing you against it and hitching your other leg up.
“Fuck.”
You tried to tell him that you needed more, that you wanted him inside of you, but all that came out was a breathy moan. His hips grinded into yours, a soft moan being pressed to the shell of your ear, and that alone nudged you towards something earth-shattering.
His lips slid back along yours, hands grasping for any skin he could reach as you practically shoved your hips against his. The desperation practically seeped into the air—permeating your tongue with its cloying flavor. Words were exchanged for moans, tender moments now shifting into something quicker and faster. You wanted to feel him against you as fast as humanly possible, but Miguel was eager to remain here. Holding you up against the wall and kissing you until you ran out of oxygen.
“So I take it that’s a no on the drink?” you breathed, smiling at the small frustrated sound echoed in the back of his throat.
“Cállate,” he grunted, hiking you up and grinning at the yelp that was muffled into his mouth.
Wrapping your arms around his neck, you felt him begin to move—heading towards your bedroom. The door remained open from earlier and you thanked yourself for making sure to keep the place tidy before leaving for work today. Before you could detach yourself from him and lead him to your bed, he turned and sat down. Taking you with him until you were sprawled on his lap.
“Tú eres hermoso,” you mumbled against his lips, watching in delight as his expression shifted. Surprise spreading across his chiseled features.
“I’m supposed to say that to you,” he replied, a small grin playing on his lips.
You shrugged, pressing your lips to his jaw. “Guess we’re doing tonight backwards.”
He chuckled, sliding his hands beneath your shirt until it was clear that he wanted it off. You complied with ease. Allowing him to drop the fabric to the floor as his eyes fell to your chest, taking in the pretty lace of your bra. The crimson you’d come to admire darkened to something you’d call a burgundy—lust clouding his gaze. He wanted to take you apart. To see the inner workings of your body—your mind. Anything he could get his hands on. And you’d let him.
There was no doubt that Miguel had gotten beneath your skin in such a short amount of time. He filled your home with a feeling you hadn’t had before. Something tangible and real. Something you wanted to keep.
“Guapísima,” he murmured, hands cupping your breasts, thumbs brushing over the spot where your nipples poked through the fabric. A soft jolt rolled down your spine at the feeling.
Warmth clung to your chest, filling you to the brim with a sensation you’d only had once before in your life. Only this was different. This didn’t feel new or like you were just discovering it. No, this felt familiar. As if it had been hiding away in your heart, biding its time until you crossed his path—until you found one another. You wanted to wrap yourself in it, sink into its comfort, and you wondered if he felt it too.
The strange way all of this felt right.
Like coming home after being away for so long.
“Miguel,” you gasped when his mouth trailed down to your chest. The heat of his lips sticking to your already burning skin—his tongue trailing along the tops of your breasts.
He pulled down the fabric, taking your nipple into his mouth—practically lighting up on the inside when you cried out softly. Your hand dug into his hair, tugging on the strands as he scraped his teeth against you. Drawing out every sound he could find hidden in the depths of your chest. Your hips ground against him, clit pulsing with a need that would only be satiated by his touch.
For a moment you worried that he wouldn’t continue his path. That he’d ignore the way you were practically panting for him—the pleas falling from your lips with ease. But then his hand dipped beneath your waistband, fingers trailing along the edge of your panties. Your eyes nearly rolled back, hips canting up as you tried to get him to go further—to release you of this agony. But he held still. Entirely focused on driving you to the very brink of insanity; continuing the path with his teeth and tongue along your chest until the skin was tender.
“Impatient are we?” he mused, nose brushing against your jaw—the grin prominent in his voice.
You huffed, gripping tightly onto his hair and dragging his head up. “A tease are we?”
A moan ripped from his throat, his hips jolting up into yours at the slight sting of pain that bloomed in his head. His eyes were heavy, mouth parted as he took in a deep breath, and you could have sworn that you’d never see a prettier sight again. He looked at you as one would a statue in a museum. Tracing the curves and dips of your body with eyes that resembled the color of blood. Eyes that would never leave your mind again.
His tongue swept across his bottom lip, teeth protruding outwards slightly and you had half a mind to ask him about it. To question how exactly he had fangs, but your desire won out on the logical part of your mind. Leaning forward you licked your tongue along them, feeling how he shivered beneath your touch—how his body sang a tune you could match.
“Careful,” he rumbled, his hand pressing against your back and bringing you even closer. “I might bite.”
You smiled, sliding your palms beneath the collar of his shirt, the hot skin beneath warming your cold fingers instantly. “Sounds like a promise to me.”
“I’m not good with promises.” He let you pull his shirt up, raising his arms and helping where you couldn’t reach.
Even you couldn’t deny there was something so domestic about this. How he carefully shifted you so that you were now pressed into the mattress. His large frame looming over you—hair falling into his eyes as he looked down. It felt natural; the fluid movements were almost instinctive. Like your bodies knew what to do before you could even comprehend anything happening. You wanted to blame the alcohol—or hell perhaps it was the lust that was making you slightly lose it—but you saw it beneath the surface of his slightly guarded expression.
He felt it too.
Perhaps even more.
“Come here,” you breathed, cupping the back of his neck and bringing his lips back where they belonged—where they felt the most right.
You felt his hands fall to the waistband of your pants, popping open the button and you were quick to raise your hips, helping him push them down. There was a swiftness to his movements. Like he knew what you wanted before you did—something telling him that you were ready to keep going. But that would be scientifically impossible. No one could predict things that way. Yet you couldn’t help but go back to the color of his eyes—the fangs that now scraped along your throat and down your shoulder.
He seemed to be a scientific marvel. Something unknown.
“Your tur—oh—” Your head fell back, lips falling open when his hand dipped even lower, fingers sliding into your soaked panties.
A groan echoed in the room, his lips finding yours again as he gathered the slick that pooled at your entrance and dragged it back to your clit. Setting a slow and maddening pace that had you grasping for his shoulders. Your nails pricked the skin so hard you knew there would be marks later. He pressed down, sparks scorching your body, and grinned at your reaction. How your eyes squeezed shut, leg kicking out and hips pushing into his hand.
“So wet for me.” He sunk one finger into you, tearing a whine from your throat.
“Mig—” The breath caught in your lungs. “I want—fuck—please…”
He shushed you gently, lips sliding against yours messily as he worked you open, slipping another finger into you with ease. “I know amorcito. I’ve gotta open you up for me.”
Something pulled at your stomach, tightening slowly as he continued to pump his fingers into you—the wet squelch of your slick echoing in the room. You knew you were dripping down his hand, that he was able to slip in a third finger as he went. But that didn’t mean he would stop. No Miguel had become hooked on the sounds coming from your lips—the moans that you didn’t try to stifle. He curled his fingers and struck against the spongy part of your walls that made you practically curl up into him.
A surprised cry fell from your lips, eyes flying open to see his lips curl into a small grin, before he doubled down. Shifting the angle, he made sure to press the pads of his fingers in the same spot each time, his thumb swiping along your clit. And you felt that building pressure shift. It clawed its way up your throat, settling in your chest as he murmured soft words of praise.
“Dámelo,” he breathed against your lips. “Give it to me bebita.”
As if your body was following his request, you shattered. A choked cry of his name was swallowed by his kiss, his tongue licking deeply into your mouth—fingers rapidly moving to prolong your pleasure. It was too much, yet not enough. The hunger—the desire—screamed in your chest, begging for him to keep going, for this to be more than just one night. Yet you couldn’t speak.
You gulped in air, legs shaking when the pleasure slowly began to fade into a slight pain. But Miguel wasn’t done. He was far from it. Your heart pounded in your chest when he slipped his fingers into his mouth, moaning at the taste of your release—the shiny stickiness on his palm letting you know how wet you really were.
“Sabes deliciosa,” he murmured, pressing his tongue back into your mouth and sharing the taste of you.
Your hand fell to his pants, pulling at the buckle of his belt as he shifted—making room between your legs to lay over you. His hand pressing into the mattress above your head. The all encompassing feeling of him surrounded you; pressed you into the small haven he created with his body. Keeping you from the rest of the world as you lost yourselves in each other.
“Your belt is being difficult,” you huffed, head falling back against the pillow.
He laughed, opening it with ease and effectively earning a glare from you.
Miguel had to admit there was an ease to being around you. The weight he usually felt hanging atop his shoulders had been lifted—his mind suddenly clearer and mood better. He wanted to figure out why that was, but you were looking at him with a gaze that caused his heart to stutter. The urge to remain close to you seemed to overtake every other thought that ran through his mind. He rid himself of his pants, helping you pull down the lacy fabric—his lips sliding along your inner calf as he did so.
The light touch of your palm grasping on his hand brought his gaze back up—your small smirk rendering him speechless. Miguel had only been this way a few times in his life. All instances he could count on one hand, but this—you—were bringing out an emotion he would have rather kept locked away. Nervousness.
Leaning up on your elbows, you met him halfway, your arm going around his shoulders as he leaned down to kiss you. It was by all means…sweet. The passion remained, lingering beneath the surface and searing through your veins, but something else took over. A feeling he wanted to keep.
“Since we’re doing this backwards,” you whispered, brushing your lips against his and cupping his cheek.
Locking your leg around his hip, you used the leverage of his surprise to send him into the mattress, your hands falling to his chest as you perched yourself in his lap. Your lips formed around a smile when he grunted. The feeling of your bare pussy now spread along his cock—your slick dripping down and coating his length—was divine.
“Mierda.” His hands grasped your hips, grinding you forward a bit until the head of cock brushed your clit, ripping a gasp from your chest.
“F-fuck—” Your head fell forward, teeth digging into your lip.
“You’re gonna fuck me amorcito?” he asked, a flash of something dangerous echoing in his eyes. “Gonna ride me?”
You nodded, mouth falling open when he pressed against your entrance. Whatever comment you had died in the back of your throat when he began to sink into you—a slight sting of pain streaking up your spine as you took him slowly. He wasn’t kidding about needing to open you up, but still it was a stretch. A soft whisper of praise echoed in your ear, his thumb circling your clit to counteract the pain. Even still you dug your nails into his chest, no doubt leaving marks that would bruise later on.
“You can take it,” he murmured, thumb curling around your chin. “You can take it like a good girl.”
A whine caught in your throat, your hips canting down with each small thrust until you were seated in his lap again. His cock filling you completely—the stuffed sensation nearly too much for you. Miguel leaned up, catching your lips in a soft kiss; giving you time to adjust. Yet you felt the sharp need of desire work its way through your body, begging for you to keep going, to take everything he would give you.
“How do you feel?” He pulled at your bottom lip with his thumb, his other hand cupping your ass.
“F-Full,” you whimpered.
“Go ahead,” he said softly, allowing you to lift yourself off his cock slowly—slick coating him down to the coarse hair at his base.
The pace was lazy, barely even there, and he watched. His eyes tracked each movement you made, each time your hips shifted forward to change the angle. He burned the image of you fucking yourself on his cock into his brain—watching as you did exactly what you said you were going do. Ride him.
Scraping your nails down his stomach, you heard him groan, his hips thrusting up slightly and forcing a cry from your throat. You wanted more. Wanted to feel him fuck you into the mattress, but the familiar pressure was already forming again. Building in your stomach with each stunted thrust—the head of his cock brushing against the spot he’d found earlier.
“I’m—” Your head fell back, hips shifting forward to catch it perfectly—eyes squeezing shut. “‘M gonna—o-oh…”
“That’s it,” he rasped, guiding your hips and slamming you down onto him with a strength that made you sob, your hands grasping for any part of him you could reach. “Cum on my cock amorcito. Wanna see you—ah fuck—”
Your hips stuttered, eyes rolling back as the wave crashed over you, nearly pulling you under. A cry echoed in the room, your walls clamping down, and for a moment you felt nothing but bliss. You went blind with it, your body tipping forward into him as he continued to move you in short thrusts, dragging it on even more. Miguel grunted against your throat, sitting up fully and holding you close as you rode out your release, your body practically falling limp against him.
Eventually you felt yourself come back, your hands dragging through his hair as he placed kisses up and down your neck, arms tightening around you. Your legs barely worked, head still fuzzy with the intensity of your orgasm. But the desire still remained, stroking the fire slowly until it once again began to seep through your system. Warming your body.
He was still hard, throbbing against your fluttering walls. That alone caused you to moan softly, your hips shifting down and lips pressing against his jaw.
“You didn’t finish,” you murmured, nails scraping against the back of his neck. The small goosebumps that appeared had a lazy smile curling on your lips.
He ached for that sweet release, wanted to flip you over and chase it, but he didn’t want to leave. At least not yet. There was something about taking his time with you that called to the part of him that had always wanted more. A part he’d crushed over and over again. Claiming it wasn’t necessary. There was no room in his life for that irritating emotion people referred to as love—no space in his heart.
Until a space began to slowly open up. He could barely find it, barely even see the small gash you’d made in the armor around his heart. But he’d discover it eventually.
“I want to see you cum,” you said softly, eyes glimmering with need.
“Bebita—”
Licking along his bottom lip you felt his cock twitch, his fingers digging into the flesh of your ass a little harder. “Want to feel it, Miguel. Need it.”
“Shit.” He felt the breath get punched from his lungs, your words sending a streak of heat down his spine. “Yeah? You want it that bad?”
You nodded, lifting yourself on shaky legs only to drop back down, impaling yourself on his cock. He spit out another broken curse, his head falling back briefly before you were tossed back—your body slamming against the mattress. You yelped, eyes going wide when he shifted over you, body covering yours in a way that had a haze settling in your mind. He grinned, fangs digging into his bottom lip as he spread your thighs—hooking them over his forearms and nearly bending you in half.
“All you had to do was ask,” he purred, guiding himself back into your dripping pussy and sinking in with ease.
Gasping, you clawed at his shoulders when he hit so much deeper, the angle changing everything. You wanted to shout his name, to tell him how good it felt, but he’d already started to pull back, shoving himself into you with a strength that sent you up the bed. A ragged sound was pulled from your chest, eyes rolling back when he brushed against that spot so much easier—grinding against it in a way that had your body going numb with pleasure.
“Look at you taking me so well,” he muttered, curling over your body and sending your knees up near your head.
“O-Oh…god!”
“Cosita linda.” His body was tense, teeth baring as he continued to pound into you at a pace that built your release so quick it burned through you. “Pretty fucking thing. Letting me fuck you like this. Perfecta—”
You cried out, nails breaking the skin of his back—leaving deep marks. Tears streamed down your temples, spit falling down your chin when he leaned in to kiss you. He was everywhere. His scent permeated your senses, taste now permanently etched on your tongue, and yet that still wasn’t enough. There was something about him that made you want to crack open your heart and give it to him. Offer yourself up entirely in the hopes he’d accept. He surrounded you, filled your entire being with nothing but him, and you loved it.
Your body went taut, eyes flying open to see him staring down where you were connected, how his cock disappeared into your leaking pussy.
He smiled, hands digging into your hips so tight it sparked a delicious pain when you sobbed incoherently. “I can feel you.” His breath stuttered when your walls clamped down—brows pulling tight and mouth falling open in a silent shout. “That’s it. C’mon—” He gasped, fingers falling to your aching clit and circling it quickly. “Cum on my fucking cock. Soak me.”
This time the release wasn’t built steadily to give you time to prepare. You could barely breathe, your lungs screaming for some small amount of air. Yet your body seemed to be solely focused on one thing. A broken shout of his name left your lips, echoing in the room, combining sinfully with the sound of skin against skin and your slick. His thumb found your clit, pinching it between his fingers and something in you broke.
It slammed into you unexpectedly, dragging out a loud keening wail—white flashing behind your tightly closed eyes as it rushed through you. Flooded every sense you had until all you could comprehend was him chasing his own release. He fucked into you with short stunted thrusts until he fell forward, his lips colliding with yours—a ragged cry being pressed into your mouth.
He spurted into your already dripping pussy, filling you deliciously and sending another flicker of warmth down to the tips of your fingers. His chest heaved, lips swollen and eyes dazed, and you wanted to solidify the sight in your mind. Except the reality of what this was would eventually come crashing back down. Reminding you that he was not yours to have. That you were simply two passing stars in a tangled web of this universe, meant to part ways.
He let your legs fall back to the bed, slipping out of you with a hiss before he flopped onto his back, dragging you with him. His cum dripped down your inner thigh, smearing against the skin. But for now you let it happen. Content to remain right there, feeling his chest rise and fall as he attempted to catch his breath. His fingers traced lightly along your spine, line after line until you realized what it was that he was drawing.
A web.
Or at least…that’s what it felt like.
“I don’t think I can move,” you mumbled, smiling into his skin when he laughed—the sound low and rough.
“That’s a good thing I hope,” he replied, glancing down at you—eyes tracing the curve of your hip and breast that pressed into his side.
You placed a kiss on his shoulder, hand splaying across his stomach. “Definitely.”
Silence enveloped the both of you like a comfortable blanket, filling the space with a soft feeling. It lulled you into a state of peace. Sleep nearly overtaking you. Yet you fought against it. Too busy taking in what he looked like—attempting to commit him to memory lest you never see him again. You wanted him burned into your brain, each memory tattooed into place permanently. But that’s not how life went.
This wasn’t a fairytale, and he wasn’t yours.
So you settled against his body, soaking in the warmth he emanated and allowed your eyes to flutter shut. His breath came in slower, arm curling around you as he fell asleep gradually—his heart a steady thrum in his chest. An echo that allowed sleep to drag you beneath the surface, giving way to something peaceful.
Tumblr media
The loud angry beep of your alarm clock jolted you awake, your eyes flying open and body aching as you sat up quickly. There was a mess of blankets on your floor, obviously kicked off in the middle of the night. It seemed that with the heat of the outside world and his body, you were content to sleep with a thin sheet wrapped around you. Yet where you expected to find clothes left haphazardly around the room, you found nothing.
Your clothes that had been stripped off now lay in a pile on your chair, shoes placed by the end of your bed. Last night was clear to you now. The all consuming bliss, the way he had felt buried inside of you—how he had touched you. And while you understood it was merely a one night stand. You couldn’t stop the disappointment from seeping into your chest.
The sight of him completely erased from your apartment put a damper on an otherwise good morning.
Sighing, you swung yourself into a sitting position at the end of your bed. A throbbing headache began to spread along your skull. No doubt the cause of waking up too fast. Either that or the alcohol had actually decided to give you a bitch of a hangover. You’d have to figure that out later. The reminder of what the day held for you flickered bright and blaring in your mind—killing whatever joy you had left in your chest.
“Fuck,” you spit, dropping your head in your hands as you finally settled on one conclusion. You were about to be fired.
You had about an hour before you had to rush out the door. Giving you enough time to find out how to stop the delicious ache in between your thighs from going away. The echo of the outside world drifted up through your somehow open window and you raised your eyes, gazing at the spot where he had been only a few hours ago.
Only to catch sight of a glass of water placed on your nightstand—a ripped piece of paper beneath it. You practically lunged for it, hands carefully sliding the paper out and eyes tracing the messy scribble of what you assumed to be his writing. The message was short. Direct. It could barely even be considered sweet, but you saw the tenderness through the short sentence—the care in his action of leaving you with something to remember him by.
I had a lot of fun.
So we can do things the right way next time.
— Miguel
Beneath the message a phone number was scrawled, as if he’d been hesitant to even put it there in the first place. But it seemed that you weren’t the only one to feel that strange connection. That lingering sensation of familiarity whenever you thought about him. There was something to uncover between you. Perhaps the something more that you were aching for last night.
You had no clue.
Yet that didn’t stop you from grabbing your phone and inputting the numbers carefully. Glancing back at each one to make sure that the message wouldn’t disappear before your very eyes. You typed his name at the top, smiling at the contact before sticking a web right beside it. The memory of what he’d traced along your skin coming back to you.
A thrill of joy went through your body, lips pulling up into a wide smile as you pressed the button to send a text. While it may have been too soon—perhaps a bit fast if you were looking at it properly—the warmth in your chest won the battle in the end.
How could something that felt this right be messed up with speed?
How could it go wrong?
