All's Fair in Blood and War (1/3)
Mesoamerican civilizations are often forgotten in discussions of ancient imperialism. Controlling the most powerful empire in central Mexico during the 15th and early 16th centuries, The Aztec Empire grew quickly in territory and influence, largely due to the civilization's religious beliefs and practices. Let's explore how Aztec religion catalyzed The Aztec Empire's bloody expansion through romanticized ideals of war and conquest!
Tumblr media
Ancient Aztec religion was undoubtedly polytheistic. Although minute details concerning Aztec gods and goddesses are debated among scholars, Aztec worshipping of hundreds of deities is widely accepted as historical canon. Individuals living within The Aztec Empire likely had patron deities, chosen to reflect personal desires, but two deities held universal importance through The Aztec Empire: Huitzilopochtli, god of war, and Tlaloc, god of rain. Consequently, the Aztecs heavily revered a duality of war and agriculture. Instigating war was viewed as essential in honoring Huitzilopochtli. Maintaining high yields of maize, beans, tomatoes, and pumpkins was viewed as essential in honoring Tlaloc.

In Aztec mythology, Huitzilopochtli led the Aztecs to Tenochtitlan, later serving as the civilization's capital city. Huitzilopochtli demanded constant veneration through violent sacrifice after every war victory and defeat. Aztec warriors who died during battle were believed to be reincarnated as hummingbirds, the highest honor bestowed by Huitzilopochtli. Desiring to please Huitzilopochtli, the Aztecs remained in a state of war that subsequently built an expansive empire through conquering surrounding tribes. Aztec men were raised to become warriors, honoring Huitzilopochtli through fighting until their violent demise. This brutality-centered mindset, deriving from religious idealizations, motivated the Aztecs to conquer central Mexico. In other words, The Aztec Empire's expansion occurred to serve a patron deity of Aztec mythology.

Expansion of The Aztec Empire did occur, in part, from the civilization's selfish desires for power and control, but primary need for expansion remained focused on piety towards Huitzilopochtli. Unlike many European empires' exploitations of civilizations for nationalistic gains, Aztec monopolization over territory proved to be almost entirely spiritual. I guess humans have always had a history of deflecting blame onto others, divine or otherwise, to avoid facing the consequences of their actions.

New cracky headcanon: at some point between S2 and S3 of Rebels, when Ezra is deep in his angsty darkside phase, Sabine (who is Just So Done With This) gets in the habit of standing outside his door and singing Do You Wanna Build A Snowman in Shyriiwook until he comes out of his room and actually has human interaction

the faerie kingdom episode would have been better if they added worms and moles as their npcs and not a bunch of monotone grayscale silver aesthetic
in fact, the forest/woods aesthetic isnt the problem because compared to actual cottagecore faerie aesthetic, the faerie kingdom is too incredibly 'pristine' and feels like youre in in the utensil section of the cooking aisle
devsis creating the faerie kingdom:
Tumblr media
what the faerie kingdom should have taken inspiration from:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
cookies that have heavy designs from wild berries and flowers would have been more suitable because it can build a more creative and colourful world instead and there would be endless possibilities for outfits

im sorry but luke would absolutely pull the ‘singing at you with my guitar’ stunt on din after getting some misguided advice from force ghost anakin- who was like “it worked on your mother:)” because that’s absolutely something he would have done too and none of the skywalkers have ever had game ever- and din just sits there confused but patient while luke sings at him for three minutes and afterwards he’s just like “babe??? what the fuck??? was that a jedi thing???” and luke immediately just full-body chucks his guitar away and is like “yup, yup and now that’s it’s done i never have to do it again let’s pretend that didn’t happen okay?!” and dins just left even more confused cause honestly? he was kinda diggin it

Ok its taking way too long to read catchup so I'm just going to ask: in Superior Spider-Man when he does his flashback to the Octogoblin breakup, and it's explicitly stated that Gobby gave Otto's ex AIDS just to be fucked up and Otto spent years doing AIDS research alone when the government was still invested in ignoring it, was that ACTUALLY canon or semi-canon to any older comics (I'm counting it if they didn't say AIDS but it was a mystery wasting disease) or was it just a weird retcon that never got followed up on or mentioned again??
It feels like that would be like. HUGELY impactful to Otto's character if it was "real", not just for the given character motive reasons but positioning him that way in society in that cultural environment. Like we talk about queer coding villains but if he was fighting AIDS back in the 80s he'd be family even if he was straight as an arrow. There'd be like notable discourse between people affected by his villainy and people who respect him and believe in him because he was there fighting the fight.
Sorry if I've asked this before and forgor thank you

Israelis singing together: we’re coming with our guns to kill those Amaleks, they have no water and electricity, those rats will not survive when we leave our homes to go to war, we want all those Blacks and Arabs dead (electric solo, disco lights)
Palestinians singing together: oh my homeland how you suffer, one day the bloodshed on your soil will stop, one day we will return to our home village, Palestine will be free again (sitting together in a space lit by phone lights)

"Fem cover" of a song except I don't change the pronouns or the octave it's in or anything, it's just me singing a song that was originally sung by a guy. Maybe I growl more than the original song did.

Young Altan reading stories to baby Rin <3
Tumblr media
“Did I do something wrong?” Altan had asked her, his eyes round with fear.
Hanelai had kissed his forehead, “My darling, never, but you should not use the fire. I need you to promise me you won’t use it.”
“Okay, I promise,” Altan said, earnest and eager again, before bouncing off to tell Rin another story or sing her another song.

Effloresce snippet
Cassian could not unsee that this man- a legend looming large, hated and admired, and so clearly, starkly loved- was exactly what Nesta Archeron was.
“You should marry him,” Cassian choked out, before he could stop himself. “Keep it.” The pain was one thing- Cassian could handle pain. But what destroyed him, a slow, rising, drowning horror, was how Nesta’s spine ironed out. Always straight. Always proud. And still, there was a marked difference by the time he finished speaking, a rigid screaming tension in every icy motion. Nesta poured the wine, not a drop spilled, precise to leave an inch of golden glass. Sipped, barely letting her chin drop before an utterly graced revolution to nod at the Illyrian at the door. “You may go.” A clean salute, a silently shut door, every screaming second raising the hair on the back of Cassian’s neck. Nesta stared him down, her dawn-blessed eyes every dream Cassian had ever had. “Jurian,” Nesta said, not a question, a lance, a thousand teeming echoes like wind through ice torn trees. It just kept going, beautiful. Chiming terrible, only for Cassian to hear. “I should marry Jurian.” Cassian’s loyalty didn’t leave room to falter. It would be better- she’d be safer. A queen among her people, for all that she would never cease to hold singular ruling providence over his soul. He wasn’t an animal, and he wasn’t gods damned high fae. Cassian could resist killing Jurian, could even like the damned man, probably. “Who,” Nesta’s teeth clicked together, snap of her jaw audible, “Said I wish to marry anyone? I have no interest in being anything but an Archeron.” Blue and red and gold, pinned up on his jacket like it had melded to his bones. Archeron.

Quick end of episode rapid fire thoughts
Capitalism and ai will doom us until we forcibly end the hold greed has over humanity. Organized religion is absolutely a part of the problem BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE Y’ALL JUST GOTTA STOP OPRESSING AND KILLING OTHERS IN THE NAME OF YOUR FUCKING GODS! Humanity has done and still has the potential to do amazing things but we gotta hold compassion higher than greed and control.
