I like to ignore that the reason the tos uniforms are like that is that it was shot in the 60s. Instead, I just imagine that suddenly, there was a huge surge in vintage fashion. And since star fleet technically isn't military, they just ran with it. And the reason why pretty much no woman on the enterprise wears pants is because Uhura liked that style and everyone simply loves her fashion sense.

As Strange New Worlds moves forward, we see more femme presenting crew wearing the elongated tunics that look like precursors to the uniform mini skirt. I love a mini skirt and in the '60s they were a symbol of female empowerment and bodily autonomy. But for an audience in 2023, it doesn't land the same.

Basically, if they aren't going to give the men the opportunity to wear the skirts on screen, I'd rather they not do it all.

Skant Uniform

Here’s Star Trek ENT TuckerReed skant uniform as I have promised!

Oh yes, I finally got it done!

Sorry for keeping you waiting for so long, this artwork took me 15hrs, most of the time spent on redrawing their poses… Their poses is actually plain as you can see, but I guess being plain doesn’t mean it’ll be easy to be accomplished, or maybe it was just me overthinking…😩 And I also struggled with “drawing more details but not make it too realistic”… It’s really hard to meet the balance, I’m still experimenting😵‍💫

Back to the skant topic, It’s obviously that Trip’s and Malcolm’s boots are quite different, bcs security crews need extra protection. Their skirts are a little different too, Malcolm’s has slits with elastic fabric on both side, bcs his duty needs him to run or fight, it’s important that his skirt stays flexible. Trip’s uniform is a standard one with no slit on skirt’s sides!

Star Trek Next Generation Skant dress

Made with Ponte di roma fabric.  The Com badge was 3D printed and the pips are wooden dowels chopped and painted, then mounted to pin backs.

Although I didn’t have to, I tossed on a wig - the 60s mod look of the dress felt it needed a nice mod hairstyle to match ^_^

been annoyed several times in ds9 s2 by costumes that look from the side/back like long draped dresses but are in fact skintight jumpsuits with capes attached at the shoulders. annoyed by the jumpsuits in general actually like if there's a scene where Any actress is wearing like normally fitted pants or a dress it's a pleasant surprise
