"That sure is an Odd'o tune coming from our HOA....!"

There is something really rotten about an HOA that takes the side of a developer who wants to scar the very neighborhood that the HOA 'represents'...!

Lately the stench of 'developer' seems to seep through all the emails, texts, letter, web postings and conversations from our HOA... But that should surprise no one. No one who has ever looked at the Cedar Creek documents and sees who's really in control of our supposed Home Owners' Association.

The Cedar Creek network of layers, appointees, companies, voting and non-voting reps, villages, incorporated entities and 'Development Company' Front organizations makes reading the CC&R a real headache-inducing exercise.

Something that ought to be as simple as 'One Household + one vote = election of the HOA Board' is instead more mysterious than picking a new Pope in the middle ages and more complex than the election of the Doge of Venice (look it up!).

All of this because someone (or a couple of people actually) want to keep control of our HOA - WELL PAST their sell-by Date!

As a premier set of neighborhoods we represent a big seat at the regional players' table for our controllers. They get to lord it over all of us, and direct spending, control our assets and even sell us land that the same people then still stay in control of...! Its like a Vegas magic show - but much, much worse. (Because we are forced to pay for it over and over and over.)

Most of us have not really cared. A few brave souls have fought this tin-pot tyranny for a several years. And for their troubles many other homeowners call them crazy and fake-HOA heavies have repeatedly threatened, bullied and harassed them. Still the majority of us have dismissed it all - carried on paying dues and sticking to the rules that we have no say in.

WORST of all are the home owners who volunteer as reps for the 'HOA'. Those that are not in it to reform it (and there are a few of them that slip through the net) are there to 'work for the community'... Not realizing that the are actually unpaid employees of a development company and its millionaire owners. They are less self-aware than the hapless stars of the Owen Wilson/Vince Vaughn cruddy comedy. Because HOA reps never get the job in the end.

Terrible fiction - WORSE reality!

So this has rumbled on forever with most of us tuning it out - why complain now? Well now the stripes of the developer are showing - because apparently its mating season for developer type and the smell is bringing the stripey skunks out to look for each other to start cuddling up.

The Cedar Creek developer-HOA is all but in bed now with the Oddo developer and the noise is disturbing. Squeaking nice squelches about each other and getting defensive and 'hissy' if any of us try to shoo off the visiting skunk with a broom!

This mating ritual seems designed to create a hybrid skunk developer baby - a big, ugly 300 unit 'luxury baby' that they are trying to nest among the trees right outside our front door. You know - they way horny skunks are wont to do. And this nauseating spectacle is sure to keep up the smell of developer skunk and, inevitably, cause more of the same to be born if the nest is allowed to settle in.

(Ok enough stink-rat analogy!) The fact is that if we had an actual HOA - where the interests of overlord developers played no part in its decisions - we would not be facing an incursion of something tremendously ugly and unwelcome above Cedar Creek Parkway. But instead we have to listen to developers squeaking both inside and outside our house.

Not much good is going to come with this fight against Oddo Developments - the greed to be on that prime and stunning site is real. And there are serious elements inside Olathe City Hall staff that detest what we have - because they are schooled to undermine single family neighborhoods. But the treachery of our HOA's role in this may ultimately cause a real shift in the landscape.

When we see what happens to our neighborhood because of Oddo Developments - we may just remember who opened the gates.... Who sang the song of Oddo... Who caries the lion's share of blame.... And who we will HAVE TO TAKE DOWN as a result...

If you've ever been skunked - its not something you soon forget.

Lysichiton americanus (Western skunk cabbage)

Yesterday, I took a trip to Stanley Park in Vancouver looking for a skunk cabbage. This native plant is one of the first to flower in the spring and I wasn’t disappointed. The yellow ‘flower’ stalk is called a spadix and it is surrounded by a bright, yellow leaf known as a spathe. The enormous leaves will start to develop soon and I’m told on the west coast of Vancouver Island the leaves can exceed two meters in length.

Skunk cabbages are members of one of the oldest flowering plant families Araceae (the arums) which appeared about 145 million years ago. This was long before the evolution of bees and skunk cabbages produce that distinctive skunky smell to attract flies and beetles which they depend on for pollination. 

This plant was introduced in Great Britain in 1901 as a garden curiosity and immediately escaped cultivation. They are called ‘swamp lanterns’ in England. The European Union has declared them Public Enemy Number One and this ‘invasive species’ cannot be imported, cultivated, transported, commercialized, planted, or intentionally released, anywhere in the EU. 

Personally, I think skunk cabbages are beautiful and if the EU wants to have a hissy fit, maybe they’d like to take back the dandelions which grow in my garden. Dandelions were brought to North America on the Mayflower for their medicinal benefits... and now, they’re everywhere!

Why are American conservatives fixating on things that mean almost nothing now? They rioted at the capitol and now all they've got is throwing a hissy fit over companies voluntarily placing warnings on stuff or taking down certain offensive things that, again, are voluntarily being taken down by said companies.

They've just got nothing. They can't find anything scary about Joe Bidet so they're just focusing on fictional skunks. The new guy has his flaws for sure but he's doing fine. Just like... fine. Not great, not bad. He's fine. And they can't do anything with that. Joe has an over 50% approval rating for a reason. He's doing fine. All of the awful things the conservatives said would happen haven't happened. They don't know what to do with just fine when the person doing just fine is a white man.

MORE SANDERS SIDES HEADCANONS! BECAUSE I'M BORED.

Logan? Writing a Star Trek fanfic? Don't make him laugh. He writes self insert and regular fanfics of Sherlock, Hannibal, Star Wars, and even Mythbusters. He's even crossed over a few of thise shows.

Don't put Roman in the kitchen. He almost blew it up after one viewing of Princess and The Frog and Ratatouille.

Virgil hissed at a moth once. It hissed back.

Remus can write with his mouth.

Kind of a creepy headcanon, but if you stand close enough to each side, you will notice: Patton smells like a pastry shop, Logan smells like a library, Roman smells like a bonfire, like the ones people have during summer, Virgil smells like wet pavement after it's been raining, Janus smells like leather, and Remus... smells like he's been freeing skunks from traps all day.

Virgil and Logan jam out to Broken Iris on mellow days.

The other sides consider Remus to be the youngest and refuse to leave him unsupervised.

Remy once threw his coffee at Remus. It was a terrible way to waste coffee; it made him smell worse and talk more.

Once, for Christmas, Logan and Roman worked together to make a gay Rudolph The Red nosed reindeer story; C!Thomas had been feeling down and they wanted to lift his sipirts.

The sides all hate Inside Out because the emotions and Riley never directly interact, which bothers all the sides, considering their relationship with C!Thomas.

Roman squealed when Thomas had a date with Nico at the house; it was raining.

On the walk to Thomas's house, Nico, trying to be cute and funny, began doing the song and dance of "Singing in The Rain." Remus kept suggesting, "What if he did a more 'suggestive' dance for you?" The moment ended when Nico slipped off a light pole and the two fell when Thomas tried to catch him.

Do not touch Virgil's Nightmare Before Christmas posters.

Janus and Virgil have a lot of hissy fits, and it's fun to watch.

Whenever Remus says something wrong or any side says something a little stupid, Thomas can't help but cringe. Nico catches him on this, but Thomas says he bit his tongue.

If the sides were ghosts, Nico would absolutely think Thomas's house was haunted.

C!Thomas didn't collect pins, a lot, but Nico got him into it.

Nico also helped C!Thomas with his Social anxiety.

Nico does not like it when it's too warm. Heat's fine, but throw in humidity, and he's not leaving the house for anything. Except for Thomas.

If he had a choice, Virgil would spend all his time in his room.

Patton shrieked when he found the smallest, little bug on the floor.

Logan lets spiders outside, when he finds them.

Virgil hides a lot of spiders in his room; they're wonderful company.

NEVER ask Remus to cook. He will blow up the kitchen.

Neither of the creativitwins like talking about King Creativity.

Neither of the twins know how or when they spilt.

None of the sides exactly know Roman and Remus split, but they all made an agreement to not talk about it.

Virgil made the mistake of checking out stuff like creepypastas and creepy facts and stuff like that. Biggest mistake EVER.

Janus doesn't like lizards. Snakes, yes. Lizards, absolutely not. They freak him out. He thinks lizards are just snakes with legs

Neopets fun fact: I believe I’m the reason the Strawberry Wocky was released when it was!

Backstory: when I was a kid, I decided I wanted a Strawberry Wocky, so I created a Red Wocky with the intentions of turning it Strawberry. But it turned out Strawberry Wockies didn’t exist, so my pet stayed Red.

Years passed, and eventually I got the idea to suggest it to TNT through their Support system. I did, but it wasn’t released that year. Not the next, either. Nor the year after that. I sent in another request, and yet Wockies still could not be painted Strawberry.

I took my chance. I wrote to the Editorial, saying I hadn’t waited quite as long as liktra for my Strawberry Wocky, but I had been waiting  a very long time. I gave them the name of my Wocky for proof that I had a pet all lined up for it.

On the weekend of March 1st and 2nd, Neopets released a large number of new colours for pets.

Gold Bori and Biscuit Buzz. Interesting.

Brown Chia, Spotted Gnorbu, Skunk Hissi, Silver Korbat. Wow, that’s a lot.

Pastel Lenny, Electric Lutari, Dimensional Nimmo, Sketch Pteri. Hey, that person who asked for a Sketch Pteri got their wish!

Split Ruki, Glowing Tuskaninny, Strawberry Wocky, Eventide Yurble.

Okay, I have two points of data but I’d be willing to bet all of these pets were requested by readers of the Neopian Times.

General/Personal Headcannons

Sean likes to pull small pranks on fellow camp members. Skunk in a sleeping bag was the worst he's done though since he got punished for it.

Arthur likes to watch wildlife. He'll sit down under some trees and watch the foxes romp around or he'll sit in a field and watch the wild horses. He loves watching the foals cause sometimes they'll wonder close.

Charles will sometimes disappear and return with injured animals. One time he came back with a small rabbit and everyone was dancing around Mr. Pearson for days. He once brought a fox pup that quickly became everyone's favorite before the horses trampled it. It was greatly mourned.

Kieran, after getting somewhat accepted into the camp, would always give small gifts to everyone. He once tried giving Micah a gift but quickly realized that wasn't his best choice. He almost got shanked with his own gift.

Jack has made every person of the camp a flower crown. He even gave Kieran one, who cried when the small boy left. Arthur wore his once but then had it pressed in the back of a book that he keeps on his horse. Micah quite literally threw his in a river.

All of the horses dislike Micah. He's been bit, kicked, and knocked down plenty of times. Even stomped on.

The horses absolutely adore little Jack. He's advised not to get around them cause they're much larger than him, but every time he does they all nibble his hair and rub their heads against him.

Charles is a fucking Disney princess. Kieran is too. You all know what I mean.

Sean loves fairy tales and fantasy stories. If you tell a story of a siren or even a dragon, he's all ears and watching you very intently.

Arthur once gave art advice to a small girl he met in one of the towns. The tiny lady was throwing a hissy fit and almost cried cause she couldn't draw something correctly. She almost gave up. Arthur sat down and showed her his journal. She was in awe of all the things he had drawn. He told her to keep practicing and that her drawings weren't terrible. They were unique. She grew up to become a very famous artist. Her most famous work was the memory she painted of Arthur. He's seen it and thinks about it constantly.

Neopets Support!

Just got access to my original account! Who knew back in the day you didnt need an email to creat an account? There was no email connected to the account, but I still able to provide all the necessary information and I got access back!

Their new support system really is a lot more responsive than the one they previous had, I got a reply from someone within the hour of sending an email.

Which means, I can spend a bunch of neopoints customizing the original pets on that account and creating new characters over winter break!

I am kind of dissapointed that the names are so bad, but its kind of charming and I like having older pets.

I know what I want to do with 2 of the pets, but I have Jolly0(random numbers) the usul and Magician(random numbers) the zafara (magician would be called Maggie for short).

I have a couple ideas for other characters, but im not sure if I sure morph these two or try to think of something. For instance, I have an idea for a darigan ruki bodyguard and a skunk/halloween hissi dancer/assassin. I also have an idea for a spotted/island hissi witch doctor, but thats just more for fun with cross paints than something I might actually do. I also likw the look of a candy zafara, but I'm not sure what customization or story could go with it.
