#so I like to think he comes down often to help Dedede around

What's your story with Dedede? How did you come to know him?Was it love at first sight or did it take a while for him to become your favorite character?
I knew and respected him for a while. I loved that in a series like Kirby there was a genuinely fleshed out character with a consistent story arc. But he wasn't quite my peak hyperfixation until, like, 2020?
Like I'm not going to lie, my fixation on him is relatively recent? I'm not even sure what exactly made me come around? I think I just find him inspiring, honestly. My life currently is very difficult, which is something many can relate to, and I often beat myself down over a lot of stupid things I did in the past and in general. Dedede is the definition of not a perfect person, but person that tries his best and those attempts get rewarded.
Despite his mistakes he became genuinely loved and appreciated by others. This comforts me. Makes me feel like I can also get to that point.
Dedede also helped me to fully come to terms with my attraction to men. It was a common headcanon in the fandom that he was gay/bisexual and I took it and ran with it. He's so confident and proud of himself while also being very fruity individual. I strive to be like him. While also not minding to kiss him... If he was real that is 😅
Sorry if this got too sappy lol but i hope this answers your question.

Creature of Soul Matter: The Emotion in Heart
Chapter 3: Mysterious Artifact
<- Prev | Next ->
I apologize for any awkward spacing, it's normally good but Tumblr has some weird spacing in of itself.
Creature of Soul Matter: The Emotion in Heart AO3
"So, where do you want to start?" Elfilin asks me, resting on my horn.
"Hmm…" I start thinking to myself. "I guess I might know where one of them is… kinda."
"Who is it? And how?"
"If I remember correctly… he was sealed away in a crystal of barriers and vanished… he's the one I couldn't save…"
"What was his name?" Meta Knight asks.
"Galacta Knight."
Meta Knight stares at me with surprised eyes. "The Galacta Knight? The Galacta Knight that was the greatest warrior in the universe? The one that could destroy planets? The Galacta Knight from the ancient texts?"
I squint at him. "He was depicted… as all that?" I think about him, "He was an amazing fighter, yes, often refused to use jabbing." I chuckle at the memory of him failing to break barrier after barrier. "And he only half destroyed one planet… and he didn't even mean to, they just attacked us and he was defending them…" my smile fades.
"Well, there are legends on how to summon him." Meta Knight explains.
When he notices the weird looks he explains, "I wanted to try to summon him and fight 'The Strongest Warrior' some time ago, so I spent some time studying the foretold methods."
Dedede rolls his eyes, face palms and shakes his head.
Kirby sneaks up on him, "Was it all about sword duals with you?" He teases.
"Old you was quite the doozy!" Dedede pipes in.
Meta Knight sighs, dropping his hands down. "Can we please move along and just get to finding Galacta Knight?" He begs.
Bandee chuckles, "Come on guys, let's stop bullying Metaaa"
Meta Knight snaps his wings out and flies up. He turns to look down on everyone, "From what I have studied, there are power spots located in some ancient structures and locations that can be used to bring him back... Keep in mind, this is what I've seen most of, it may be false!"
"Got it!" Kirby yells, a Warpstar flying up behind him.
"Oh, you all have Warpstars?" I softly ask, basically to myself.
They all hope onto it. Their speed of getting on, even with their different ways of holding on, shows how many times they've done this before.
Elfilin decides to continue to hang onto my head. "I can make portals to a few places that I remember, but I want to know what it's like for you." He explains.
"If you say so." I tell him, "I won't stop you."
Kirby flies his Warpstar up and I follow. Meta Knight thinks for a second before pointing his sword in a direction.
Kirby has his star zip off. I would be struggling to keep up if I didn't have my vortices. I fly through one after the other, keeping my eyes on Kirby.
We fly through space for a while, then Kirby picks up speed, he joyously laughs in the process.
Watching them all like this, I just can't help but to smile.
Something catches my eye, a dark floating structure with basically nothing around. We've been flying for a while and I wasn't expecting a break in the constant space that isn't a planet or star. I portal in front of Kirby and get him to stop.
I point to the ominous structure. "This feels important." I tell them.
Kirby looks at Dedede and Dedede nods.
As we approach the structure, the pieces floating around it become more obvious and the purple crystals lacing it's walls are more prominent.
As we enter its first arch, gravity seems to work again, everyone hops off the Warpstar and Elfilin flies down to them. I drape down my wings as to not scrape the ceiling.
Everyone with a weapon draws it. Kirby wanders to some nearby debris and uncovers a piece of a spear. He swallows it and gets a spear and headband.
"Oh, I got one of those as well." I say, summoning my own.
Meta Knight looks me up and down, "That's not a spear." He says, "That's a halberd."
"O-... Oh okay…?" I say, surprised by the sudden correction.
We all silently start walking down the halls, Elfilin following not far behind.
There's pieces of spears and arrows scattered everywhere. "This place seems like it was once riddled with traps." Meta Knight observes.
"Well thank you mister obvious!" Dedede retorts.
Everyone stops and looks at him.
"Err, uh… sorry, I'm really stressed right now. This place is rubbing me the wrong way." He apologies, clearly a bit embarrassed.
"D- don't worry sire, I'm spooked by this place as well!" Bandee reassures him.
Dedede pats him on the head a few times while we start to go again.
We travel a few more halls. Weapons, debris and set off traps everywhere; I've spotted multiple skeletons and somewhat shutter at the sight of each, many creatures of different species have died in here.
I look back down on everyone to make sure we're all still here, then I look back up, but not in time to react to a low hanging arch. I ram headfirst into it and step back, holding my head and yelling in pain.
I suddenly trip, a pile of debris is behind me, and I fall into a mass of broken weapons and building.
I groan as Elfilin rushes over, closely followed by Kirby. Bandee and Dedede soon come over and Meta Knight follows.
"Are you okay!?" Elfilin panicky questions.
I pull out a spearhead that rested like a thorn from my shoulder. "Kinda." I wince as I pull piece of wood out of my wing.
I look back up to where I hit my head, I can see strange markings in it. I let my eyes drift down to the hall that follows.
"That's not… right…" I mutter, the hall has debris but no weapons or evidence of set off traps.
I look back up at the markings, it's written in Halgraw text. I rise up to take a better look at it.
"You can read that?" Elfilin asks.
I put my hand on it and look back down at the group, "I can, mostly, it's Halgraw text." I try to explain.
I look back to the words and read them, "they seem to be instructions on the different traps…" I continue to read.
"Is that why so many have gone off?" Dedede figures out, "because none were able to read these instructions?"
He's probably right… what could they be wanting to guard that they would make so many traps and so that only Halgraws can make it through? "That could be right." I answer.
I look back down onto the ground behind me and see the markings and shapes for a trap trigger point.
I look into the next hall and see the line of scratches. I pick up a rock and toss it onto the marks. Immediately fireballs shoot out from either wall.
I walk up and look into the holes. Orbs with little shapes at the center rest in each. Sparking some sort of memory in me.
Kirby walks up as well.
"Oh hey! I recognize these!"
Meta Knight flies up and looks as well.
"Ah yes, these are Energy Spheres if I recall correctly, they were used in the Lor Starcutter."
I recognize part of that… "A Lor?" I question.
"A Lor?" Meta Knight repeats, "no, the Lor Starcutter."
"A Lor is a type of ship used for intergalactic travel… it can open portals and travel at light breaking speed."
"Sure sounds like the Lor Starcutter." Dedede says, now next to me. "Are they also legended to be sentient?"
"Uhhh, no?" I say, confused. "I've never heard of a sentient one…"
Meta Knight suddenly backs up, "Let us not stray too far from our goal, whatever that might be."
'I guess you're right, ' Dedede says, stretching. "Let's get going."
"I should try something first." I say. "Now that we know traps are active past this point, I want to see if I can open a vortex."
Everyone turns to me as I attempt to open a portal to no avail. "That's what I thought…" I sigh. "Magic from us doesn't work here."
Now I'm glad I summoned my spear earlier.
We slowly make our way through the increasingly darkening halls, preemptively setting off trap after trap. We eventually need to light a few arrows, that are shot at us, on fire, using another one of the traps to do so.
I see a light coming from the next turn, a cool purple glow flowing from it. "Oh finally." I sigh.
We set off the last trap and rush down. I turn and walk into a room riddled with stone carvings and crystals.
At the center, on a pedestal, rests an Energy Sphere that at the center appeared to have the yellow color drained. It's also the thing that the glow comes from.
I approach cautiously, looking for any more potential traps.
"I did not expect this to turn into a relic expedition." I remark, "But here we are…" I snatch the orb and hold it to my chest, where it grows to fit my hand… for some reason... I expect something terrific and life altering to happen, but instead the roof slowly starts to open up, exposing the stars again.
Everyone slowly walks up to me, looking up and admiring the view of the nearby galaxy.
I look back down at the sphere and it's light seems to have all concentrated in a cone shape, acting like an arrow and pointing up.
"I… I think we need to go that way…" I say  pointing in the same direction.
"Maybe… but that's for another time. We still need to go find that hotspot. We've spent enough time here already." Meta Knight responds. "If you give me the orb, I have a place we can put it."
I semi-reluctantly put the sphere on the ground where it shrinks and Meta Knight grabs it and puts it in his cape.
He must see my confused face, "Dimensional Cape." He elaborates.
It barely helps, but at least I now know that it's special and can be good storage.
Kirby's Warpstar comes in through the roof and the four all hop on it again, Elfilin grabs back onto my head.
We all take off and start going back in the direction we were going prior.
While warping through space I ask Elfilin, "Hey, you've been quiet for the past while, are you okay?"
"Hm? Oh ya, I'm okay. It's just, that place creeped me out…"
"If you say so..."

A super angsty idea for a story I have, but will probably never get around to writing (though if anyone wants to put it into proper words, by all means, go ahead!) For this to happen, though, we need to pretend that chapter 48 of Life in Dreamland (Nova's Blessing) does not exist. That being said, enjoy!
TW: Character death
Ok so some people HC Meta as Nightmare's rogue demon (which I do as well).
And Nightmare occasionally tries to take over Meta's body to wreak havoc in Dreamland.
Usually it fails, but what would've happened if one time, just once, it succeeded?
So cue Meta going on a rampage through Dreamland because Nightmare has taken control of his body (this gets really long, rest will be below the cut)
Nightmare's gotten rid of Galaxia and is using a regular sword instead. Without Galaxia, Meta has no chance of regaining control of his own body.
Dedede, Bandee, and Kirby are meeting to discuss what to do about Meta, cause they obviously can't just leave him to wreck Dreamland.
Bandee brings up the idea of killing Meta, to which Dedede adamantly refuses.
Dedede thinks that he can drive Nightmare off with Galaxia's help, so he picks up the sword and heads off to where Meta's been sighted.
So there he goes, Meta's there as the reports said, and Dedede tries to get Meta to hold on to Galaxia so Nightmare can be pushed out.
Unfortunately, Nightmare knows what's trying to happen and though Meta's fighting his influence, he can't actually hold on to Galaxia.
Meta's arm is just sorta stuck in limbo, trying to reach for Galaxia but at the same time getting pulled back.
Nightmare ends up winning, and Meta claws Dedede's face before flying off.
Dedede, despite all of that, still believes Meta's in there
So off he goes again to try and capture Meta and force him to hold Galaxia.
The king successfully captures Meta, but no matter how he's tied up, the rogue knight won't hold Galaxia, and he ends up escaping in the middle of the night.
After Kirby is attacked by the possessed knight, Dedede reluctantly admits that yes, they may need to kill him, but if they're going to, he wants to be the one to do it.
Bandee explains that Galaxia is the only thing that can purge Nightmare, so again off Dedede goes to Meta's latest sighting.
They battle for a while, and though Dedede has never used a sword before, he's somehow still able to put up a fight against his one and only knight (cough cough because of Galaxia).
After slicing Meta's mask in half, Nightmare is dazed enough to the point where Dedede can pin Meta down.
Meta says that he never wanted to hurt anyone, and that he's really scared and really sorry for hurting everyone.
Dedede's on the verge of tears at this point-
Despite that, he still comforts Meta, saying that it's going to be alright and brings him into a hug.
Then with shaking hands, he picks up Galaxia and stabs the puff through the back.
Nightmare is purged out of Meta's body, but now he is dying
They're much too far from the castle to get medical help, and ever since Meta started rampaging, people just evacuated and didn't look back, so no one's around to help either.
Dedede's sobbing and crying, profusely apologizing to Meta and wishing that it's just a dream (it's not).
The knight forgives the king for stabbing him, since he won't cause any more harm to any more people, and though Meta might've forgiven him, Dedede can't forgive himself.
Meta tells Dedede to let it go and know that he did the right thing, to which the penguin screams "i just stabbed you!! how is that the right thing!!"
Even though Meta is dying, he manages to convince Dedede that yes, it's okay, I forgive you, we'll meet again soon, and that he still loves the king very much.
Dedede's just able to kiss his cheek and whisper "I love you too" before Meta smiles slightly (a ghost of his usual one) and dies, and the king is stuck in a barren wasteland with his knight's limp body.
Which he does not like, so while he's still sobbing and grieving, he slowly takes Meta back to the castle so he can be buried.
Back at said castle, Bandee is preparing Meta to be buried, and brings up that they'll need to bring out the ceremonial armor to bury him in.
Dedede, who's been supervising the process, refuses, saying that Meta never put it on anyway and that he hated wearing it, so he'll just find a set of his usual armor and that's what they'll bury him in.
The king also adds that it'd feel more natural, seeing Meta the way he usually was and not in some fancy armor he hardly wore.
(Cue the funeral scene, which I gloss over both here and in my mind)
Dedede makes a speech at the funeral, obviously, and it's a pretty small thing with just the king, Bandee, Kirby, and the Halberd crew.
Cut to a couple years later, Galaxia has been stuck in the ground next to Meta's grave, and Dedede visits a lot, often with flowers or Meta's favorite kind of chocolate.
One day, he holds a conversation with Galaxia, puts the flowers and box of chocolate there, says a few things to Meta, then leaves.
His dream that night is one where Dedede is at the Fountain of Dreams, and Meta's spirit comes down to visit.
They waltz, bantering just like they used to, and though Dedede wakes up in tears, he has a smile on his face for the rest of the day.

Waddle Dee went to Kirby's house every day after finishing work at Factory Dedede to help aid the search.
"It seems that our president has also started searching for the gears. He’s been walking around town with a map and a magnifying glass."
Kirby nodded. "Not only President Dedede, but everyone in town is searching for them. It's difficult, though. No one knows the shape or color of the gears."
"Hmm ... Do we have any leads?" Kirby and Waddle Dee pondered face-to-face. At that moment, the doorbell, which rarely rings, made a noise.
"Who is it?" Waddle Dee said to Kirby. "You don’t get many guests."
Kirby jumped up. "Oh! Is it the pizza delivery person!?" he shouted.
"Pizza delivery person? Kirby, did you order pizza?"
"No! But ... maybe the pizza place made a special pizza to celebrate my 100th consecutive victory of the airplane races!" Kirby opened the door in a hurry. There stood someone wearing a large hood.
"That? That’s not the delivery person, is it ...? "
Tumblr media
"Good evening, Kirby! It's been a long time. It’s Magolor, yo~! " Magolor, the traveling merchant. He traveled often from town to town selling medicine. Kirby, himself, had also once taken Magolor's medicine after he had previously rolled around in the snow and caught a cold.
"Did you come to sell medicine again? But I'm not sick ... "
"No, no! It's different this time. There’s a big story."
"A big story?"
"It's about the search for some gears." Magolor came into the room, put the large trunk he had with him on the floor, and sat down on it.
Kirby was taken aback. "Are you also looking for the gears, Magolor?" he asked.
"Yep, it's my dream to get the prize, build a laboratory, and develop medicine." Magolor spread his hands. "Kirby, we both have our strengths. If we put those strengths together, I’m sure we could find the gears! What do you think about some cooperation?"
"Yeah, sure!" Kirby nodded. Waddle Dee, however, was a little worried.
"Kirby, is it okay to trust this guy?"
"Eh? Why not? It's easier to find something with three people instead of two."
"Hmm ... but ... " Waddle Dee didn't trust Magolor. He came out of nowhere—maybe he was trying to use Kirby by taking advantage of his kindness.
Looking at Kirby, Magolor said, "I know a secret method for finding the gears. If you have me, we’ll easily be able to find them."
"Really!? Great, then let’s do it!" Kirby was overjoyed, but again, Waddle Dee was more skeptical. He became more and more suspicious.
"If you know a method, why are you telling us? Why don't you search for them by yourself?"
"I would, but ... there’s a big issue." Magolor took a deep breath and spoke with all his might. "I can’t do it alone. Kirby has a certain something we need." Kirby and Waddle Dee looked at each other.
"Kirby has ... what? Huh?"
"Here’s the thing, listen carefully!"
"Okay." Kirby and Waddle Dee sat down in front of Magolor.
"I'm nuts about ancient magic, so I’m the only person who understands ... the gears of the ancient machine cannot be found because they’ve been sealed."
"Sealed?"
"Uh-huh. Once upon a time, the gears were stolen by an evil wizard. It seems the gears had a magic seal put on them during that. The sealed object cannot be seen with the naked eye, however, a special tool can be used to find it. I know the location of that special tool."
"Special tool?" Waddle Dee said. "A special tool that reacts to magic ... Where is it?"
"I told you, Kirby has it."
"Eh? I do?" Kirby’s eyes widened. "I don't have anything like that! I can't use magic!"
"You ... you have the Star Compass, right?"
Kirby was surprised. "The Star Compass ...? Yeah, I have it, but, hold on." Kirby rummaged through some junk piled up in the corner of the room and pulled out a small, star-shaped compass.
Tumblr media
"That’s a cute compass. What’s so special about it?" Waddle Dee asked.
"The old man of the Magic Guild gave me this as a present a long time ago, after I defeated a monster in the City of Magic."
"Not the ‘old man,’ the Elder of the Magic Guild. The great wizard Tottemo." Magolor looked enviously at Kirby. "Tottemo … Totteeemooo ... The Star Compass, such a precious artifact. If you study magic, you'd want it even if it were in bits and pieces. When I heard an airplane pilot from Diamond Town got it, I was so jealous!"
"Huh ... I didn’t realize it was so important." Kirby recalled when he received the gift.
("Really? You want me to take it?"  When Kirby asked, the old man of the Magic Guild—no, the Elder, smiled gently.
"It’s a thank-you item. Please, don't hesitate. The Star Compass—if it falls into the hands of someone with a bad heart, it will bring terrifying results. But if it's with you, Kirby, it will be safe."
"Huh?"
"Besides, this compass, don't you like it? Ho ho ho!" He waved goodbye as Kirby left.)
That guy that Kirby visited ... Even when he asked what he meant, Kirby didn't understand at all.
"This compass, it doesn't move. I can’t tell what direction it points because of it. I'm sure it's broken ... "
"That’s just because you’re using it incorrectly." Magolor reached out and received it from him. "The Star Compass is a tool used to search for the power of magic. If it’s not used correctly, it won't move. Watch." Magolor opened his trunk and took out a small paper packet. Glittering, sand-like grains spilled out when he opened it. Using them, he began to draw a mysterious pattern on the floor.
"Like this, if you draw it with magical sand and put the Star Compass in the center ... "  The needle of the compass, which had not been moving until now, began to sway. It emitted a pale light like the glimmer of the stars.
"Ah, the compass ...! " Kirby shouted.
"Get a map of the town!" Magolor said. Waddle Dee hurriedly brought a map of Diamond Town, which Magolor put the compass on. He chanted a spell. The compass needle spun around wildly, increasing in speed, until it stopped at a particular angle. After a moment, it began spinning again and stopped at another angle, and then another. Magolor nodded.
"Okay, there are three gears in all. Here, here, and ... here." Magolor put three marks on the map.
"Do we know the position of the gears, now?" Waddle Dee said with big eyes.
"Yep! The movement of the Star Compass can tell you exactly where our magical objects are."
Kirby looked at the map. "The first one is ... the field! That field is where the goal of our airplane races is," said Kirby.
"Second is ... around the clock tower in the west," said Waddle Dee.
"Third," said Magolor, "‘The Town of Light.’"
"You can't go into The Town of Light," said Waddle Dee. "’The residents of the Town of Wind must not go into the Town of Light without permission.’ That's the rule."
"Aw man … The third gear is postponed, then. We’ll have to figure out some other way. Let’s find the other two, first."
Waddle Dee nodded. "There’s a guard at the clock tower that won’t let us in, so we should start with the gear in the field."
"Okay! Come on, let's go!" Magolor stopped Kirby from running out the door.
"Now, it's too late. You should wait until tomorrow."
"But ... "
"The night is dangerous. We’re the only ones that know the locations, so don't worry so much."
"That's right. Let's start tomorrow," Waddle Dee said. "The factory will be closed, too, so we can find it together. We’ll all meet in the field, first thing in the morning."
"Oh, actually, I’m sorry. I have something to do tomorrow. I can’t go with you ... Instead, let me give you a thing." Magolor took out a small bottle from the trunk and gave it to Kirby. "These are magical eye drops I made."
"Eye ... Drops ...? "
"As I said, things with a magical seal on them cannot be seen with the naked eye, however, you’ll be able to see them if you use these special eye drops."
"Wow, that's convenient!" Magolor, again, stopped Kirby from immediately trying to use the eye drops.
"No no no, it doesn't last for long! Only about an hour. It'd be better to use them tomorrow!"
"Okay, I understand. Thank you, Magolor."
"You’re very welcome! Oh, and one more thing: once touched, the magical seal will melt. It will be so that the gears can be seen even without the eye drops."
"We just have to touch it," Waddle Dee said. "If we find the gears, let's deliver them to Mr. Fugo, together, and get the prize. We’ll divide it evenly!"
"Wow, sounds fun! Good luck Kirby, Waddle Dee."
"Yeah, we’ll do our best. Thank you, Magolor!"
Magolor headed home, dragging his heavy trunk behind him.
"Magolor is really knowledgeable and smart," Kirby said. "I’m surprised!"
"I'm glad he’s on our side," Waddle Dee nodded. "Thanks to Magolor, we can get the gears. Let's do our best, tomorrow."
"Yeah! Good night, Waddle Dee."
"Good night, Kirby." Waddle Dee waved and left the room.
Tumblr media
Meta Knight was sitting on the couch and thinking, of course, about the gears and the ancient machine that was discovered.
(Evil using an ancient machine ... What kind of machine could it be?)
A knocking sound was heard, and Butler Vul's voice soon after.
"Excuse me, my lord."
"What is it?"
"It seems ... a strange guest has come."
"A guest? At this time?"
"Well ... I told him to come back tomorrow, but he said that he wanted to speak to you as soon as possible. He spoke of gears—I didn't understand much of it ... What do you want me to do?"
" ... Gears." Meta Knight had also begun looking for the gears, but no one should know except Daroach. Not even Butler Vul should know. Meta Knight stood up.
"Okay, let me through the living room."
"Are you sure?  Somehow, he has a strange atmosphere about him ... "
"It doesn't matter."
"Understood ... " Butler Vul moved to return to the front door, however, he nearly bumped into someone on the way there. "Wahhh!?"
"Nice to meet you, Lord Meta Knight!" Standing behind Butler Vul was a person wearing a large hood. Butler Vul yelled at the intruder.
"Why—! Hey, you! You selfish—! How dare you just, come in on your own! I told you to wait at the door until my lord gave me permission!" But the guest just pushed Butler Vul aside and spoke to Meta Knight.
"I'm a medicine peddler named Magolor—"
"We don’t need medicine. Get out."
"—I want to talk to you, Lord Meta Knight. I have a story I want to tell you—"
"It's time for my lord to get his rest. Get out!"
"—A story about ... the gears of death!"
"Hey, why don’t you listen to a story about my wrinkles instead!" Butler Vul was furious, but Meta Knight just stared at the strange merchant.
"Okay, let's hear the story. Vul, you’re dismissed."
"Eh!? But my lord ...! "
"I’ll call if anything happens. Don't worry." Butler Vul was so upset he left the living room with shaking fists. Meta Knight led Magolor to the sofa and sat down. Magolor spoke with a smile.
"Thank you so much, Lord Meta Knight. I’m sorry I’m here so late at night, forgive me ... "
"Let's not waste time. About the matter at hand—what do you know about the gears?"
" …………… "
Magolor’s hood shifted and showed his expression. "Right to the point. As I expected from you, Lord Meta Knight!" Suddenly changing his tone, Magolor leaned back on the couch.
"I know a tip for finding the gears. I want to tell you about it."
"What do you mean?"
"What I mean is, Lord Meta Knight, I want you to find the gears ... " Magolor rephrased, seeing sharp eyes staring at him from behind the mask. "I’m telling the truth. I'll give you a tip because I want you to find the gears and win us the prize. I want to build a laboratory and develop new medicine."
"Why me? If you know a clue to finding the gears, you should look for it alone."
"I can’t, it has to be you. You see, one of the gears is in the Town of Light."
" ... What was that?"
"As an aristocrat, you have the freedom to act in the Town of Light. If they see a merchant like me sneaking about, they’ll kick me out. To find all the gears, our cooperation is a must! Your help is needed at any cost!"
Meta Knight stopped to think. This medicine peddler, who called himself Magolor, was more than he seemed. He seemed to know important information about the gears, but Meta Knight was not yet convinced.
"If you need an aristocrat, I'm sure there are others. Why did you choose me?"
"The aristocrats are a burden. Everyone, they’re sloths, annoying things. Out of all of them, the only one I can rely on is you, Lord Meta Knight."
Meta Knight didn’t believe it was that simple, but Magolor had a point. The aristocrats who lived in luxury had no adventurous spirit or curiosity. Meta Knight was the only one who was interested in finding the gears.
"Let me hear from you. What kind of hints do you know?"
"Look at this." Magolor opened his trunk and took out a map. "The gear is here." A certain place was marked in the Town of Light.
" ... This is ...! " Meta Knight was shocked.
Tumblr media
"Do you know where this is?" Magolor asked.
" ... Ah, yeah."
"Great! Then, do your best to find the gear. I'm going home ... Oh, one last thing." Magolor pulled out a small bottle. "These are magical eye drops I made." Magolor explained the eye drops and handed a vial to Meta Knight. "Good luck, Lord Meta Knight. Have a good night." He dragged the trunk out of the living room. After Magolor left, Meta Knight was still. He was staring at the map of the Town of Light. The gear—it was in Mr. Fugo's mansion.
"What does this mean?" Meta Knight murmured. "Regardless, I have to let Daroach know ... "

Meta Knight x Reader- Panic Attack
Tumblr media
Boom!
You heard a loud bang outside the room. Your eyes jolted towards the door.
A boisterous laugh sounded, followed by a cackle. Dedede and Escargoon.
Crash!
The sound of glass shattering.
You felt your heartbeat quicken. Shakily, you got to your feet and made your way to the door. As you were about to open it, there was a knock on the other side, which caused your already tensed body to jump, and a soft squeak to leave you.
“(Y/n), it’s me,” a familiar voice spoke from the other side.
You breathe a sigh of relief. Meta Knight.
You open the door and are greeted with Meta Knight’s yellow eyes meeting yours.
“Sir Meta Knight, what are you doing here?”
“Checking up on you. You heard the loud noises, too?” He asks.
“Yeah, I was actually about to go see what it was. It, well, it has me worried,” you admit.
“As it does me,” Meta Knight answers. “Though I know Dedede is behind this, I don’t know what he’s up to,” he turns back to you, extending a hand. “Would you like to join me, my dear?”
You blushed at his ‘dear,’ but placed your hand in his nonetheless. He notices.
“No need to be shy, (Y/n). We are dating now, afterall.”
The mention of this only made your cheeks grow darker.
“I know, it’s just,” you started as the two of you began to walk together, “It feels nice when you call me that.”
“Dear?”
“Yeah,” you smile.
“Well then I’ll make sure to do it often, my dear,” one of his eyes, currently a pink shade, winks at you behind his mask. Your cheeks matched the color of his eyes as you quickly averted your gaze.
BOOM!
The commotion sounded closer, and Meta Knight instinctively jumped between you and the direction it came from. His hand gripped the hilt of his sword.
“It came from the throne room,” He said.
Your legs suddenly felt a bit shaky. But you followed after Meta Knight as he led the way.
You opened the doors of the throne room, and as you did, something fired towards you. Meta Knight pushed the two of you down just in time as the projectile whooshed overhead. A second later the deafening sound of the cannon hit you, a loud rumble that reverberated through your chest. And then the bright light from the flash. All of it culminated into one big overstimulated nightmare.
“Meta Knight, what in the world are you doing!?” A shout from Dedede.
Your heart was pounding.
“Yeah, you shouldn’t get in the way when we’re trying out new weapons!” Escargoon’s yelling echoed through your skull.
You couldn’t control your breathing. You shouldn’t be breathing this heavily.
“Sire, with all due respect, the castle doesn’t make for a very good shooting range,” Meta Knight.
Oh god, your throat was closing up. Your body was shaking. Everything felt both so far away and too close at the same time.
“Well maybe you shoulda knocked first!” Dedede yelled again.
You tried to sit up from where you landed when Meta Knight pushed the two of you down. Your arms were trembling. They don’t usually do that, right?
“Yeah, you shoulda knocked first!” Escargoon parroted Dedede.
Something crashed behind you, collateral from the projectile that just missed you. Your hands continued to tremble. Looking at them, you felt your breathing get even faster. Was there no oxygen in this air? Why did it feel like you weren’t getting air when you so clearly were breathing it in? Just thinking about it only made you breathe harder.
When Meta Knight finally took a look at you, he froze. His eyes lingered a moment on your trembling body, before his eyes flashed white. Without hesitation he dashed over towards you and took one of your hands.
“(Y/n), are you alright?”
You furiously shook your head. You thought about lying and saying yes, but you knew he would see right through you if you tried to pretend you were fine.
“Hey, Meta Knight, look at me when I’m talking to you!” Dedede shouted.
“Sire,” Meta Knight’s eyes flashed red as he side-eyed the king. Dedede took a step back, immediately looking apologetic. “I would greatly appreciate it if you would test your weapons away from the castle.”
“Of- of course Meta Knight!” Dedede stuttered.
“We wouldn’t want to cause any trouble,” Escargoon mimicked, equally intimidated by the knight’s piercing gaze.
Meta Knight’s glare lingered on them a second more, eyes returning to their normal yellow at their answer, before bringing his attention back to you.
“I’m going to move you out of here, (Y/n). Is that alright?”
Your body still shaking, you nodded. Your throat still felt too tight to give a proper answer.
With that, Meta Knight scooped you up and dashed from the room back down the hall. Your vision was too unfocused to tell, but Meta Knight was bringing you back towards the room he shared with Sword and Blade. A quick opening of the door, and he set you down on his bed.
Your breathing was still too fast, but the fact you were away from King Dedede and Escargoon’s shouts helped a bit. Everything still felt like too much all at once. But Meta Knight’s voice pulled you towards something to focus on.
“(Y/n), you’re having a panic attack right now. I know it’s scary, but it’s going to pass. I’ll be right here next to you the whole time.”
Okay, so, you were having a panic attack. Okay, cool, this is fine. This is-
A panic attack.
Your breathing slowed a little bit, but not much.
“(Y/n), I need you to try to slow down your breathing, okay? In,” Meta Knight drew a long breath in, “and out,” and let it out slowly.
You mimicked his breaths as he repeated the action and instructions with you. You felt your throat opening back up again, slowly. You were still shaky, though.
“Good, good, you’re doing great,” you could hear the smile in Meta Knight’s voice, despite his mask hiding his expression. You gave him a shaky smile in return.
“Is there anything you need, dear?”
“How long?” You croaked out, throat still a bit closed up.
“Typically about half an hour,” Meta Knight answered. Your eyes widened and your breathing quickened again, until he quickly added, “But the length of time can vary. Just, focus on your breathing. Finding something to focus on instead also helps come down from it. Like, uh.”
He glances towards the still open door for a moment. His eyes turn a green color. A moment of hesitation, then he places one hand in yours.
You squeeze it, finding some comfort in holding it. It felt like another thing to keep you grounded for the moment. You had expected that Meta Knight was just going to give you his hand to hold, but with another glance towards the door, he moved his other hand towards his helmet.
“Wait, you don’t,” you were cut off when you hear a click, and Meta Knight moves the mask away from his face.
Staring back at you, Meta Knight, unmasked, met your eyes. He looked how you imagined Kirby would (once Kirby had grown up a bit). Despite looking a little nervous, his voice held steady.
“It’s okay (Y/n), I trust you.”
You squeezed his hand again. Your breathing had slowed back to normal. Meta Knight showing his face had managed to completely distract you from your panic attack. Slowly, you moved a hand to touch his face. He let you.
You let out a soft giggle, and a genuine smile spread on your face. Meta Knight’s own face mirrored yours, his eyes turning a pink color. The hand not holding yours moved to cup your cheek.
“Your breathing has returned to normal, my dear.”
You chuckled, your throat still a bit closed up.
“Do the lights still feel too bright?” He asked.
You nodded, though they felt more tolerable than they had been.
“Here, you can block them out with this,” he unclipped his cape and wrapped it around your shoulders. You were still too shaken to blush, so you just smiled at him instead. He paused a moment, hands still on his cloak that was wrapped around you.
On instinct, you leaned forward and planted a small kiss to his lips. You felt his smile against your lips. When you pulled back, his eyes were a deep purple color, and his face held a prominent blush of his own. You, had you been feeling one hundred percent, would be fairing no better.
“Thank you for helping me through this, Meta Knight. I’m sorry I’m so much work to take care of,” you spoke softly.
He put his mask back on, and looked to meet your eyes again.
“Nonsense, my dear. I’m always happy to keep you safe. And you have no need to apologize for things you cannot control.”
The honesty in his voice sent butterflies to your stomach. Your smile grew further.
“You said to tell you if I needed anything?”
“Yes, I did, (Y/n),” he answered.
“Can you, er, would you lie here with me?” You ask, lying back.
He hums, laying down next to you.
“Of course.”
You covered the both of you with his cape, so you were both swept under a veil of darkness.
“Let me know when you don’t feel shaky anymore, alright?”
You hum in response.
“Walking after a panic attack can help it from coming back after it’s already happened.”
“Okay, Meta Knight,” You cuddle against him, wrapping your arms around him. He does the same to you.
A moment’s silence, and you hear him whisper.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
***
On your walk later, you ask Meta Knight something you had been wondering about.
“Hey Meta Knight, why do you know so much about panic attacks, anyway?”
“It was part of basic medical training for Star Warriors,” he answers, holding your hand in his. “In battle, if a fellow warrior was having a panic attack, they would be no good for the fight. We had to learn how to get them to a safe place and calm them down. Though, in the heat of battle it was usually just the first part we focused on.”
“Have you ever had to use that training before today?” You asked.
He hesitated before he responded.
“In battle, I only used the first part of that training. After the war, I had to use what I’d learned to help someone come down from an attack.”
“Really? Who was it?” You ask, genuinely curious.
He hesitates again.
“Oh, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to,” you add.
“It was me.”
His answer caught you off guard.
“You had to bring yourself down from a panic attack? Alone?”
“Yes.”
You squeeze his hand, thinking for a moment. You step in front of him, stopping him in his tracks.
“Well, if it ever happens to you again, now I can help you calm down from one,” you flash him a bright smile. “Plus, since you guided me through mine, now I know how to help it go smoothly for you, too!”
He chuckles.
“Thank you, (Y/n), I appreciate that.”
“Of course!”

Ness (smash) Steven (su) and Sonic (also smash) for your ask game!
Ness BrOTPs
Snake - Ness has built up a huge admiration for Snake over time - what he’s been through, how he powered through it all, his weapons and abilities and sense of humor and the like. He essentially feels like Snake is a second father figure, and is honestly pretty shy about it. But Snake is happy to spend time with him and makes sure he voices his approval more frequently than usual, cause Ness’s face lights up every time and he finds it so sweet
F!Wii Fit Trainer - As someone interested in athletics but not speedy enough to play competitively, Ness quickly latched onto WFT’s more relaxed fitness and yoga sessions as a way to get moving instead. Over time she effectively became his Cool Aunt that he’d come to with new discoveries and questions! One particular thing they often do together, as a very-confused-with-tech lady and a kid who still lives in the 90s, is try to figure out new tech and ignore anyone who tells them they’re doing it wrong yes I know cameras aren’t new they’re just messing around in the linked example
Toon Link and Lucas - The first pair of people his age that he really clicked with, since Young Link was a lot more solitary and the Ice Climbers just didn’t become part of the super-tight group they formed. These three can find pretty much anything to do together, and they often like to discuss their families. When it comes to competition, their teamwork excels - they’re somehow always in sync, especially with Ness always leading the team (until Villager joined the friend group in 4 and started competing for that role)
Luigi and Dedede - While they don’t usually go out of their way to hang out, the three of them just feel really connected with each other post-Subspace. Expect lots of knowing smiles, inside jokes and eye contact from across the room, to the extent that people know they’ve got secrets but no one ever gets a real hint as to what they are. They will also most certainly team up if they have the chance, but honestly that’s when they do most of their catching up rather than trying that hard to win anything
Steven BrOTPs
What makes this easier is that he forms some kind of relationship with pretty much every character in the show, so let’s talk about a few we don’t get to see him with much!
Jeff - It took a while before they could meet up, since at first Steven only heard about him from Connie and then her cram school started, but when all three finally did (around Change Your Mind time) it was a pleasant surprise to see how many interests they shared. Jeff immediately started looking up to Steven and took to learning about Gem stuff, even volunteering to help with the construction of Little Homeworld! Eventually they start hanging out themselves playing video games and such, and Steven even gives him a warp whistle shortly before the movie so they can meet up more
Nephrite - Steven wanted to spend as much time as he could with Nephrite once she was healed - it was his chance to finally really listen to his friend after so long and he could just feel the excitement radiating from her to be back. For a while she came with him to Homeworld out of wanting to see how it had changed. Hearing others’ stories and tales and being able to tell her own really struck a chord with her, so she started studying therapy - Nephrite was actually the one who helped Steven get into it! In addition, Steven is happy to introduce her to Earth tech, and on his road trip she somehow always manages to sneak up and stop him for a hangout
Blue Zircon - Upon making changes around Homeworld, one of the first things Steven wanted to do was show some appreciation for the more trustworthy faces around there. Immediately he voiced his approval for Blue Zircon, calling to mind her amazing deduction skills from the trial. BZ also feels the trial let her see Steven as someone on her level rather than far above her - there are plenty of occasions where she calls Steven to ask for leadership tips or discuss plans, rather than any other leading Gem
Peedee - Though he doesn’t realize it, once Steven starts managing Little Homeschool he subconsciously makes comments on his work woes as he goes about Beach City. Peedee’s the first to pick up on it, and honestly, he gets it - soon the conversations at the fry shop/tater truck are getting longer and longer before Steven has to go. He recognizes the deflecting and watering down of his problems Schtu-ball tends to do too, and asks cautious questions so both of them have a better outlet when they talk. The realization that they haven’t hung out enough hits hard leading up to Steven’s road trip, so that’s what they do - Steven helps him relax a little more and Peedee helps with the plans
Sonic BrOTPs
I wanna point out that I know enough about Sonic to get all the important characters’ personalities and general dynamics, I just don’t really know the lore :,D so hopefully these are okay ahaha they took a while to think about
Mega Man - Buddies since the comics, and that holds true even to now. When Rock first arrived at Smash, it was the hedgehog that showed him around and helped him settle in - and the actually kinda overwhelmed Rock clung to his arm for quite a while. They like to host friendly competition all the time or poke fun at each other’s slip-ups. Honestly, though, it’s refreshing for Sonic to have a robotic friend rather than an enemy for once; in turn, Rock appreciates having a stable friendship with a former enemy instead of some vague tension-filled team up
Orange and Blue Inklings - During the first Ultimate pool party, Sonic wasn’t the only one who hanging around away from the pool - he was able to click with Amber and Neil almost immediately. The Blue Blur’s found himself completely enamored by the culture of Inkopolis, and these two are happy to share with him their “fresh” fashion tips and lifestyles. And if they so wish, they can become one of the most chaotic trios in the whole Palace
Mario - As much as he tries to play off the aloofness sometimes, Sonic always inevitably draws to Mario in a crowd. His “old man” just makes him feel a lot safer since he always backs him up, whether it’s a tough battle or just messing around (not only will Mario find it hilarious every time Sonic pulls something, half the time he can and will join in). Mario keeps the hedgehog at the top of his list for whenever he’s up for some sports, and while usually Sonic’s too caught up in stuff to join in, he makes sure to mentally cheer for the plumber every time
Shulk - His kind, nerdy vibes remind Sonic of Tails, so he’s more than willing to just walk up and start chatting with the guy. Initially Shulk didn’t think too fondly of him since their priorities and tactics seemed to clash a lot, but when Sonic started telling stories of his friends (specifically Silver and the aforementioned Tails), it definitely grabbed his interest. The two start talking about their own experiences with the future, and their regrets, and it definitely becomes one of Sonic’s more introspective relationships

Top 10 favorite preds?
OH, SO YOU HAVE CHOSEN BEARS. Perhaps you didn't know what you were asking, but I am holding back more love for the bears from the Fi.ve Ni.ghts at Fre.ddy's series than is necessarily healthy, I'm sure. So it’s all bears on this list. Please note that these are my interpretations of the characters.
Get ready for Freddy some fancy singer bears because this girl is all about them sharp-dressed preds! [Stick around 'til the end for honorable mentions, a.k.a. If Chibi Wasn't Completely Teddy-Beared] Also beneath the cut because this got STUPID LONG.
10. Nightmare Freddy The only canonical parent. *snicker* I put him this low because despite being what I would call a demon, he's kinda vanilla in my head. He has sharp teeth, claws, a great intimidating aura and sure, he can make you fear for your safety... But in the end, he's careful with those pointy things. (Side note: In most of my writing the Nightmares feed off of fear, which leads to a lot of teasing fearplay with no real harm.)
9. Classic Freddy/Withered Freddy (Hey, they're the same character, shut up) He was my original crush of the series and I'm always going to love the main bear singer. Half of the time I portray him as a soft, charming pred that gently coaxes prey into being eaten and the other half he's a huGE TEASE, grinning and cooing to prey about how filling they'll be squirming in his gut all nice and snug- AAAA! He has the 'suave smile' down pat, I don't know how he does it!
8. Nightmare Fredbear Okay, look. He's intimidating, huge, wide, has sharp teeth, a belly maw, and claws. He is literally made to tower over you and make you question reality, a demon sent to torment... Really, he's a smug, teasing monster that relishes in your nervous stammering and fearful trembling. He wouldn't really harm someone, he's more interested in the fear they exude though. He also borrows some teleport powers from both being a Nightmare and a copy of Golden Freddy, so sometimes he'll appear behind you with that big, toothy, smug-jerk grin until your skin crawls enough to notice him... Or his belly rumbles ravenously right behind your head. And his tummy is LOUD when you're outside, let alone inside...
7. Lefty Okay, Lefty's a little hard to explain. He's calm and gentle in his daily life performing alongside the Rockstar models, sometimes even more slow and quiet. He likes to watch others more than participate, opting to stare. Sure, maybe he's just shy... Or maybe he's calculating the best place to catch you by yourself. Most of the time though, he's more concerned with the health of those around him. If he thinks you're pushing yourself too hard, he'll gently make sure you'll take a break. He'll shush prey as he holds them carefully inside, reassuring them. Often he will activate his inner music box to soothe his prey to sleep. He just wants you to take a nap- in his belly~
6. Shadow Freddy/Phantom Freddy Okay yes, two different characters, but I treat them more like brothers or duplicates of one another. They act almost the same, so I'm cheating shut up. Phantom Freddy is a ghost, obviously, and Shadow Freddy is a shadow entity, again obviously. They are both non-verbal most of the time when I write for them, opting instead to nudge and gesture (and tease like the dickens in a one-sided conversation). But they purr loud to let you know if they're enjoying themselves.Since they are both beings made of energy, that's what they need to maintain their forms. They just 'borrow' some liveliness from their prey, which leaves the prey a little drained afterward. But that's something that can be solved with a nap and some snacks~ Some friendly warnings- since they are not really physically solid, they're known for surprising prey. They love hugs, both outside- and inside. It depends on the day whether they are going to swallow prey- or just absorb them into their bodies. But it's like floating in cool air- you're okay with that, right?
5. Molten Freddy I have so many feels for my poor, unraveled boy... He's gone through a lot, stuck in a long, snaky coily body by himself, but he still has such a sweet demeanor! His mass appears so much bigger now that his endoskeleton has come undone, Molten Freddy can control all of his coils separately. He's starved for attention and if someone shows the slightest empathy to him, he latches onto them hard. He's so fond of hugs that he'll hold prey with his coils and call them sweet names until they fluster bright red. Then he'll wrap them up and swallow them slowly, purring as he works them down deeper into his metal-cable body for long, internal hugs... Bear with snake body, yeth~
4. Nightmare Okay, so Nightmare Fredbear? Just- magnify all of that. Like, 2000% magnification. Nightmare is what his name suggests: a literal embodiment of nightmares. His teasing can get rough, borderline possessive sometimes. When he feels he's going overboard in terrorizing his prey, he'll subtly ease back. But let's face it, it's easy to go overboard when you're... well, basically the King of Fearplay. He can be a pushy jerk, being the leader of the Nighmares means he calls a lot of the shots... But if you know him well enough, he'll reveal more of his true self and become easier to deal with. He'll be your huge, intimidating back-up with an army of nightmares at his command- no one will mess with you again. But when faced with his insatiable appetite, it means that you'll be dealing with his belly maw more often than his fear-inspiring appearance.
3. Fredbear/Golden Freddy/Withered Golden Freddy (Again, same character) Ah, a wonderful golden bear! He has such versatility since you see him in so many eras! As a younger bear, he was more polite and reserved. As the years wore on, he began to get more... sloppy, for lack of a better term. His politeness wore down and he became less reserved, starting to be more teasing and smug. By the time the first game started, he was a grinning, teleporting menace. He loves to spook prey by appearing behind them, then pinning them against the wall to fluster the daylights out of them with his ravenous appetite. "I've been empty for so long... Could you help me with that~?" He can get possessive over his prey occasionally, and he loves nothing more than lounging around with a squirming belly full of delicious prey.
2. Funtime Freddy The excitable boy, despite being my main F/O, number two on the list of favorite preds? *gasp* Okay so I LOVE Funtime Freddy so much, it's not funny. ...There's a pun in there somewhere. Hm. He's such a silly bear, so full of energy! He's bouncy and giggly most of the time, always ready and glad to spend time with someone! There's only one problem... He also burns a lot of energy and his tummy often reminds him to eat with sudden, sharp growling. And when your hunger is that fast and demanding... Oftentimes the best food source is his tasty prey friend literally right next to him! Hope the prey doesn't mind the sudden change of scenery! He has an issue with going too fast out of eagerness to fill his tummy, so sometimes he'll give himself a tummyache. Guess the prey better get to work soothing their big pal's tum, huh?
1. Toy Freddy That's right, my soft boy~ He's such a nervous, fretting bear that needs some soft reassurance and hugs. Good thing he's already soft and plush, ready for someone to soothe his nerves. He's extremely polite and reserved, never wanting to impose or bother others... But sometimes his tummy speaks up for him. If he's hungry, he cannot stop the starved rumbling of his empty tummy and he will be so flustered about it! Apologizing, stammering, trying to subtly rub his tum to calm it down (not knowing it's doing the opposite), he's a flushed, famished mess. Most of the time it takes a prey offering themselves up for Toy Freddy to eat them and he'll constantly ask, "Are you sure?" He goes slow to ensure prey's comfort and because he absolutely must savor their flavor, thanking them gratefully as his belly accepts its treat with loud approval. (But if the prey is oblivious and his hunger gnaws too hard for too long, he might snap and stuff the prey into his mouth. He'd apologize profusely after he'd gulped them down, ashamed at his own behaviour. Don't drive the poor soft boi to those measures...)
[Sorry, Rockstar Freddy. Your politeness, smooth compliments, and offers of 'substitute payment' weren't enough to get you on the list. I'll make it up to you later.]
Okay so, here for the honorable mentions now? Unfortunately, I haven't really branched out very far beyond these bears when it comes to noms, but here's a few I've experimented with or am thinking of experimenting with.
King Dedede (from Kir.by) - He's such a glutton, though! He's kind of bossy and definitely greedy for food, but oh well lunch isn't for another ten minutes so his servant or guest might just have to do until then! It may be sudden and lunch may end up joining you, but at least his belly is pretty spacious! He's a kind pred behind closed doors where no one can see his nice side, happily holding prey inside. And he'll definitely let you out later, just... keep squirming, your king demands it~
Globox (from Ra.yman) - A huge, plump frog-like friend! He literally eats stuff to store it repeatedly in Rayman 2 and (although I haven't played it yet) in Rayman 3, I think Globox accidentally swallows the bad guy and the whole plot is about getting them out? I wonder why there's not more content of him out there, he's positively MADE for this community, lol.
King K.Rool (from Don.key Ko.ng 64) - Okay so, lemme call myself out. Past Chibi, who didn't know what vore was at the tender age of 10, had a fascination with the villain of DK64. -And had daydreams of causing trouble with my friends the Kongs only to be captured and eaten by K.Rool as an act of punishment against the Kongs? Didn't know why I liked that thought, but I just- kept coming back to it! Now I know why! Considering how H U G E he is compared to the Kongs in that last boss fight, um... G/t vore? Haha!
Slimes (from Sli.me Ran.cher)- We knew this was coming. Considering the very nature of our ranching-of-slimy-friends game, I couldn't help but think of plenty of pred and prey scenarios. But the best pred scenario I can think of is an inexperienced rancher coming across a gordo slime (which is a ton of slimes congealed into a larger one). Of course they're a dumb-bucket and decide to poke it when their vac-pac doesn't work, which leads to them getting stuck and sucked into the sticky, slimy mess. When they get free somehow, they embarrassingly admit it to another rancher who laughs. "Oh, that happens to everyone once."
TL:DR- Chibi has EXTREME CRUSH on several dapper bears and very clearly has a pred type [taller, larger, and stronger than her].

Top 5 Games, ever...?
This was sort of on my mind, considering the recent GOTY post I made. Come explore the hyperfixations that managed to stick around long enough to be my top 5 list.
5. Uhhhhhh
Tumblr media
So turns out I haven’t figured out what number 5 is yet. I suppose instead I’ve got to split it among the honourable mentions, huh.
Kirby Super Star Ultra is probably the best game from the GBA/DS era of the series and is just a blast to play. It introduced Masked Dedede, and all the banging music and memes that come with it, and probably deserves a spot here just for that.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth removes all the awkward Flash Stuff from the excellent original, and adds so, so much more content- the game’s final expansion still isn’t out yet as of writing but even now there’s just so much to unlock. While some aspects of the game can be pretty unforgiving, you probably aren’t going to be exposed to the worst of it unless you get into it pretty hardcore, and if you do, you’ll get used to it. It’s a roguelike, after all.
Speaking of roguelikes, FTL: Faster than Light is chaotic yet serene, brutal but fair, and a bunch of other pretentious dichotomies wrapped into a neat little bow. It takes some getting used to the mechanics, but once you get the hang of it, building your little ship up and up in the face of all odds is extremely satisfying. Have fun dying hopefully not too many times.
SPEAKING of permadeath, Realm of the Mad God gets a spot here just out of sheer hours I’ve spent with it. After a messy few years with a not-so-great owner lead me to dropping the game, it seems finally to have recovered and has devs and community that actually freaking care about it, which is nice. Also, it’s free, and the recent transition to unity has the game looking better and playing smoother than 12-year-old me could ever have dreamed of.
Terraria isn’t just 2D Minecraft btw, its actually more of an RPG/Metroidvania thing, you probably know at this point, but its pretty good hey. Still haven’t fully dove into 1.4 but considering I thought Red was done at 1.1 I’m not complaining with what I have played.
 4. Fallout: New Vegas
Tumblr media
(...ish??)
I’d argue that between the primitiveness of the original Fallout games (I’ve tried to get into them, but I just can’t) and how…meh… the other Bethesda ones are, New Vegas is the only one in the series to stand up strong. Obsidian’s excellent writing and tweaks to the gameplay of 3 make New Vegas feel like an actual world, rich and characterised, which was something I found lacking in previous open-world RPGs I’d played up until that point (which admittedly might just have been Skyrim). It’s a game that challenges you to make choices that actually matter for more than the mere moments of an altered dialogue tree, both in dialogue and character building, which helps make the game actually replayable. It is also the first game in a long time that really sold the idea of DLC on me, seeing as each of the game’s 4 expansions adds an entire new region of world with its own stories and unique gameplay, tying together with the main plot but standing on their own. I am excluding Gun Runner’s Arsenal from this for obvious reasons, though it isn’t like GRA is a bad DLC or anything- on the contrary, the sheer scope of modifications and munitions makes playing a repair/science-based character incredibly fulfilling- but it just isn’t at the same scope as the other 4 (Courier’s stash barely counts seeing as its just oops! All preorder bonuses).
New Vegas is one of the few games I have actually 100% completed, achievements and all, but I’m still pretty sure there are bits I’ve missed, paths I haven’t taken, characters I haven’t talked to. Despite its inhospitability, the Mojave is always a comfortable place to return to.
 3. VA-11 Hall-A
Tumblr media
(Hey look, my phone background)
Vallhalla is a masterclass in storytelling, atmosphere, and aesthetic. Like all good cyberpunk dystopias, you get themes of class and transhumanism and artificial intelligence, but they aren’t the point of Vallhalla. Through the window and lens of cyberpunk and PC98 nostalgia is focussed a surprisingly human story centred around the protagonist, Jill, which through multiple replays still hits me in the feels just so. Of course, Jill’s story is not the only one being discussed, as every single patron of the bar has their own life going on, and the glimpses we get imply a rich, often interconnected, world. Glitch City is, frankly, a shithole, and it’s not like you don’t get some assholes coming into the bar while you’re working it. The first patron you serve, in fact, is a great example of this- Donovan D. Dawson, essentially a parody of J. Jonah Jameson, is a colossal prick and knows it- but its clear he has his own system of morals and it is mentioned that he’s excellent at his job, much as he gripes about it. He’s rude and more than a little sexist, but frustratingly charismatic and authoritative, and he’s just one of many people who show up throughout the game. Vallhalla is the perfect game to sit down, grab your preferred beverage, and just relax with.
 2. Total Annihilation
Tumblr media
(This image is on the steam page for this one, despite blatantly not being from vanilla TA)
I think I actually need to explain this one. Total Annihilation was a game released in 1997 made largely by Chuck Taylor, who would later go on to produce spiritual successor Supreme Commander. It’s an RTS game featuring exclusively robotic units with a fairly chunky aesthetic, allowing the visuals to age better than some, and a fully orchestrated soundtrack by Jeremy Soule, who would later go on to do work on a whole bunch of stuff, most notably Skyrim.
Total Annihilation is an intensely nostalgic game for me, being one of the first games I ever got to play as a kid outside of edutainment stuff, and I’d argue still holds up today (especially with the excellent Escalation mod). What it lacks in story (it’s pretty basic, but functional) it makes up for being miles ahead of its time mechanically, being the first (?) RTS to function in 3 dimensions- heights of things actually matter, hills exist and certain units climb them better than others, shooting down airplanes is difficult without anti-air but possible if you aim *just* right. While appearing pretty similar and having largely analogous units, the two factions of Arm and Core are well fleshed-out in terms of aesthetic and playstyle- Arm preferring fast and cheap equivalents to Core’s slow but powerful- and the unit variety is sufficient that strategies can vary wildly based on the map. Both campaigns as well as those from the game’s expansions are challenging, but satisfying, limiting the units you can produce to force exploration of different playstyles.
Total Annihilation isn’t something I tend to binge play for hours anymore, but I’ll pick it up for a bit every so often, and I don’t see that stopping for a long time (especially due to the recent steam release).
 1. Pokémon Emerald
Tumblr media
(At the top, where it belongs)
Yeah, this was inevitable. Pokémon is my favourite series ever; Emerald is my favourite in the series. Go figure.
Emerald, being the final game for the franchise’s days on the Game Boy, reflects everything Game Freak had learned in the first 3 generations of the series’ history. The game’s balance is challenging but fair, never spiking so tough that it is insurmountable but never holding your hand either. The AI opponents are throwing odd combinations of mons and moves at you from every corner, double battles are everywhere but rarely mandatory, and the variety of available mon both before and during the postgame is excellent. The added features on top of Ruby and Sapphire are great- Battle Tents serve to replace 3 of the contest halls (they should have all been under one roof to begin with) and provide a taste of what would later be available in the Battle Frontier. The Frontier is probably the single most expansive and challenging postgame in any Pokémon game, providing the game with a longevity that is sorely needed due to the inaccessibility of Pre-DS multiplayer. The game also manages to tie together the plot of both Ruby and Sapphire into something that feels natural, and provides the series’ first ever actual cutscene, which felt a lot cooler at the time than it sounds now. The return of animated sprites gives the Pokémon a level of life far beyond the static sprites of RSFRLG, and in my eyes wouldn’t feel the same until Black and White several years later. The return of the Pokégear phone in the form of Match Call, as irritating as it is to some, makes the world feel alive in a way that Sinnoh and Kanto probably never will, in addition to making grinding a fair bit less tedious and more beneficial. It is, altogether, probably the perfect Pokémon experience, and in my opinion only one other game comes close (its Platinum).
Oh also, they got rid of the font from Ruby and Sapphire, thank fuck, that shit is atrocious.

Kirby’s Adventure Playthrough
Tumblr media
Fighter: Kirby
Game: Kirby’s Adventure, Wii U virtual console (NES). First Released on March 23rd 1993.
Fighter Bio.
Kirby is a pink ball shaped creature that lives in Dream Land on Planet Popstar, although his true origins are unknown, as is the name of his species. Whilst Kirby seems to have a sense of morals, his motives seem to be fairly simple, often he seems to simply go on adventures to help friends or stop something that is causing problems for all of Dreamland and is immediately apparent to him. His first known adventure was him taking on King Dedede, the self-proclaimed King of Dream Land in order to reclaim the food he was hoarding from the rest of Dream Land’s citizens, with many adventures after often being sparked either by Kirby deciding to sort out an immediate problem, such as the citizens of Dreamland all having bad dreams due to the Fountain of Dreams being disturbed, or something piquing his interest such as a ship crashing down on Planet Popstar and Kirby deciding to help it’s pilot find the parts he’s lost to rebuild the ship. Due to this somewhat simple approach Kirby has often found himself tricked into inadvertently helping a villain achieve their goals by freeing them or granting them a chance to gain ultimate power. What’s important however is even with villains who are smart enough to get Kirby to do their dirty work for them, they often underestimate just how powerful and tenacious Kirby is, which always ends up bringing about their downfall, granted he is often helped by other characters to do so.
Kirby’s personality is somewhat mysterious, he has spoken very rarely, usually only to explain the controls for a game or in reaction to the plot. In most other cases however Kirby tends to let others speak for him and not really answer characters who speak to him. One example of this was where Susie in Planet Robobot would often talk of her plans to Kirby who seemed to not really take on board what was being said beyond that she was messing up the Planet and had to be defeated to sort things out. Kirby seems to act somewhat childlike, although there have been the occasional moments in the past where he seems to show a bit more of an understanding of what’s going on than his childlike personality would suggest. Kirby is very friendly to most people, even being willing to happily go on adventures with characters hes fought before, although he is quick in some cases to assume certain characters such as King Dedede are responsible for a current problem and rushes to fight them before finding out what’s really going on. He will however happily work alongside such characters when he realises they aren’t causing problems.
Kirby is a powerful creature whose greatest strength is his ability to inhale enemies and take their powers, which gives him access to a wide variety of abilities. Kirby can only use abilities specific to the last enemy he’s eaten (provided they are one that grants an ability) however he can discard the ability in order to inhale a new enemy to swap to that one, which over the years has given Kirby access to many elements such as fire, water, rock, wind, leaves and many more. Kirby has also shown himself capable of very powerful moves too, such as a Hypernova ability when eating a Miracle Fruit, which allows him to inhale much more powerfully than he usually can, devouring multiple enemies and objects at once as well as Super Abilities which are much more powerful forms of copy powers he’s used before such as a giant sword which can cover the whole screen. Kirby’s other natural abilities are a slide kick and his ability to inhale air and fly, which he can exhale as an attack before falling. This air attack isn’t very strong but can be quite effective against small enemies. Kirby can also spit out enemies he inhales as a star, which in his first game, Kirby’s Dreamland was his only method of attack as he could not gain enemies powers then.
Kirby’s species is unknown and mysterious, there have been some appearances of others who seem to be of the same species as him, however there is not much detail regarding them. Keeby is a character who looks identical to Kirby only yellow instead of pink. There have been examples of a Yellow Kirby in other games, however there is no confirmation whether this is Keeby or not in the majority of these cases, with the only time he’s been explicitly referred to being as one of Kirby’s alts in Smash Bros. Some of these examples of other Kirbys of differing colours come from games where Kirby has been cloned such as during Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, therefore Keeby could be different from these yellow cloned versions of the pink Kirby. There are other coloured Kirbys who appear in mini-games, however these are not considered actual canon parts of the games. Meta Knight is another character who is speculated to be one of Kirby’s species, mostly as when unmasked he has a similar face to Kirby and his wings seem to be part of his cape, however he has not shown the ability to inhale enemies like Kirby, although it’s unknown if he’s capable and simply doesn’t use these abilities. Galacta Knight is another character who appears to hold similarities to Kirby, however his wings don’t appear to be part of a cape as Meta Knights are. Galacta Knight is said to be an ancient warrior who was sealed away so it is plausible he might deviate physically from Kirby’s species in their current form, although as with everything else regarding these characters it’s a big mystery. Finally, one of the oddest cases is of the Batamon, an enemy that often appears out of bounds where Kirby cannot interact with it, save for one example where it acts similarly to a Waddle Dee, hurting Kirby if it collides with him. If Kirby inhales it similar to a Waddle Dee it will not give him any ability, however this enemy is notable for looking very similar to Kirby, although its eyes are different to others of Kirby’s species being smaller and further apart.
Friends: Kirby has made many friends over the years, sometimes with characters he’s fought before. Many of the enemies Kirby can take copy abilites from he can also gain as friends or helpers who will help him in his adventure until they’re defeated. Due to the large amount of these I will only go into specific characters rather than the friendly species Kirby has travelled with such as Knuckle Joes or Vividrias. Kirby has made friends with characters he has fought a few times, however I think they can be listed as rivals more really, despite being on the friendlier side of the rival scale through the series. Kirby’s first known friends in the series are a group of animals he fought alongside in Kirby’s Dreamland 2, Coo the Owl, Kine the Ocean Sunfish, Rick the Hamster and Gooey who is a being of Dark Matter. Unlike the other Dark Matter beings in the Kirby series, Gooey is friendly to Kirby and helps him fight against them. Kirby’s animal friends help Kirby to travel around in different ways such as flying, swimming and riding whereas Gooey has sometimes helped as a second player character and other times simply given Kirby powerups to help him. Kirby at first fought Dyna Blade a giant mechanical bird, but later found out she was just trying to keep her chicks safe and made friends with them. Dyna Blade then in return helped Kirby in his battle with the Battleship Halberd, flying him back when he had been thrown off the ship. Kirby had more animal friends in Kirby’s Dreamland 3 which were ChuChu the Octopus, Nago the Cat and Pitch the Bird. Nago would roll Kirby around like a ball, Pitch would be held by Kirby due to his small size and used for various abilities, ChuChu finally sits on Kirby’s head and will grab enemies putting them into Kirby’s mouth for him to eat. Ribbon the Fairy is a character who Kirby finds and helps return to her homeworld, with them teaming up with other characters along the way to take on Dark Matter who’s invaded her home. Ribbon helps carry Kirby in the final battle against 02 so he can battle in space. Adeleine is one of the very few characters who seems to be human in the Kirby series. She is one of the characters who is possessed by Dark Matter and fights Kirby before joining him when she’s defeated and rid of the possession. There is some debate over whether Ado, a very similar character from Kirby’s Dreamland 3 is actually Adeleine or not, however Ado only fights Kirby as a boss and shows up in the ending so doesn’t have as big of a role as Adeleine does in Kirby 64. Both Adeleine and Ribbon work together in Kirby Star Allies to help Kirby out again. Finally, there is a specific Waddle Dee who Kirby makes friends with in Kirby 64, this Waddle Dee is identified due to its feet being the same colour as its face, unlike most other Waddle Dees that have yellow feet. This character seems to be separate from another prominent Waddle Dee in the series however. Kirby had a couple of run-ins with his counterpart from the Mirror-world in Amazing Mirror, however they realise that they’re actually on the same side and as Mirror-Kirby is the defender of the Mirror-world similarly to Kirby they work together to stop Dark Mind. Prince Fluff is a character Kirby met during the events of Kirby’s Epic Yarn, hailing from Patch Land. Due to Kirby looking different in Patch Land it’s unknown how Prince Fluff would look in Kirby’s Universe, however he seems to be similar in shape to Kirby and shares the same abilities with him. Finally, Bandana Waddle Dee seems to get along well when working with Kirby, however he often will go along with most of King Dedede’s plans even if they’re against Kirby.
Enemies/Rivals: King Dedede has fought Kirby many times, however often these cases have either been due to him being possessed by a powerful entity or one of them being too impulsive to really explain what the situation is to the other. Dedede can let his greed get the better of him though and genuinely goes against Kirby when seeking to steal all the food in the kingdom for example, however there have been many times Dedede has worked with Kirby to combat a threat and the King knows that when there’s a serious threat Kirby is the world’s best hope. Meta Knight is a mysterious figure, he has fought Kirby many times, however he often seems to covertly help Kirby, even in a lot of his more antagonistic appearances such as his very first where he would sometimes throw an item for Kirby to use before vanishing. Due to this it’s unknown what his motives really are, whether he’s only looking for a good fight and is helping Kirby so he can have a good confrontation later against him, or if he’s actually training Kirby to make sure he’s strong enough to take on the real villain of the story later. Meta Knight as with King Dedede has worked with Kirby before and has also been possessed and forced to fight Kirby a few times. Due to his loner status, Meta Knight isn’t necessarily a close friend of Kirby’s, but he has often been a good ally in his battles against strong foes.
Kirby has fought many powerful enemies throughout his game series, from beings like the Nightmare Wizard or Queen Sectonia to powerful entities such as Dark Matter, Zero and Dark Nebula. Kirby has also faced foes who have tricked him in order to gain power such as Marx and Magolor, with these foes actually helping him in later games either as an apology for their actions, or seemingly as a way to take out competition to their own goals. Finally there are foes that Kirby faces only for them later to realise Kirby’s their only hope when it turns out the character they’ve been helping doesn’t actually care about them or their plans go wrong, such as Taranza and Susie. Sometimes this results in them repenting or other times just disappearing after helping Kirby stop the crisis they’ve helped create.
Crossovers with other Smash characters: Kirby has had quite a few crossovers with other characters, including many Nintendo ones over the years. When it comes to characters who are also in Smash one of the earliest examples is in Kirby Super Star, where Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Wario (along with Toad and Birdo) appear in the crowd during Kirby’s fight against King Dedede and the Megaton Punch minigame. Next there were many cameos of Nintendo characters in Kirby’s Dream Land 3, some of which were from fairly obscure Nintendo games such as Yuyuki and Shin Onigashima, however R.O.B. and Samus Aran also appeared in stages in the game. Samus would give Kirby a Heart Star if he defeated Metroids that show up in a specific room in Iceberg – Stage 2 and R.O.B.’s parts have to be found in order for Professor Hector to reassemble him at the end of Sand Canyon – Stage 6. Kirby appears on a poster in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga at the Yoshi Theatre, which seems to be advertising a movie based on the Kirby series. Another crossover of note is a somewhat unusual one, in Link’s Awakening an enemy appears which has been referred to as both ‘Kirby’ and ‘Anti Kirby’ before, it looks just like Kirby and inhales Link, spitting him out to damage him if it can. It is weak only to bombs, the magic rod or a boomerang. In the remake of Link’s Awakening this enemy looks slightly different having more of an orange tint than Kirby usually does and a different smile, however it still attacks the same and is clearly modelled on Kirby. The specific Link from this game does not appear in Smash Bros other than as an alt costume and a spirit however. Finally in Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun Kirby appears as a playable character along with a Squid from Splatoon.

Why this game?
When it comes to why I chose this game there’s a few reasons that are more specific to me regarding the choice than its relevance to Smash, although that’s definitely a factor. The first key reason is that this is the game which really set the guidelines of how the Kirby series works. It introduced Kirby’s ability to use powers, solidified his standard moves and introduced a new member of the recurring cast in the series which was Meta Knight. This game was also the first where Kirby goes up against a villain who’s actually intimidating and pure evil rather than the final boss of the previous game, King Dedede who was more being a greedy jerk. Speaking of King Dedede, this game also introduces the concept of him still being involved in the story whilst not being the main antagonist, a role that he has most commonly filled ever since. There are two versions of this game, Nightmare in Dreamland, the GBA remake of this game which vastly updated the graphics and gameplay and Kirby’s Adventure, the original NES game. I chose the NES game to play through this time as I felt it was overdue, which I will go into with my history with the Kirby series. The other big key reason I chose this game, is because I find it a very impressive NES game, it helps it came out towards the end of the NES’s life meaning a lot of developers had started pushing the system to it’s limits by this point, although I’m not admittedly that knowledgeable regarding this situation overall, especially as I was around four years old when the game was actually released. With that said, I’ve always wanted to see how the NES original looked, especially as a lot of enemies I knew from later in the series would originate here, so seeing their original 8-bit incarnations was interesting.
Tumblr media
My past with this game.
When it comes to the Kirby series, it’s one of the few where I had the very first game, then missed out on a lot of them till much later. Unlike Zelda however it took me a very long time to get another Kirby game. I started out with Kirby’s Dreamland on the Gameboy, which I really enjoyed, although despite how easy and short it was, back then I never beat it. It was not until 2007 with the release of Kirby Squeak Squad I actually played another Kirby game. Why this was the case I don’t know, I’d been playing Smash Bros ever since 64 and it had made me interested in all the series in it, and I knew of Kirby’s games as well as learning of the characters I didn’t know from it such as Meta Knight who appeared as a trophy in Melee and later playable in Brawl, however it was only at this point I decided to play Squeak Squad. Another factor in this decision was at the time I’d seen some of the Kirby anime, as it was easier than tracking down the games. I’ll admit, I didn’t see much of the Kirby anime, but it did get me curious to finally see what these characters were like. I enjoyed Squeak Squad quite a bit because of this, even though I’ll admit it’s one of the blander games, however I came to realise around this time I think that the anime was actually based on a specific game, Kirby’s Adventure.
I considered looking into the GBA remake at the time, but I also happened to be looking into other games at the time, specifically NES games. I remembered when I was much younger going to a sleepover at an old friend’s house and him having a Gameboy cartridge which had multiple games on it, so I searched for a GBA cartridge with multiple NES games on it. I’ve been looking for that cartridge to go into specifics, but can’t find it currently, still this cartridge had a lot of games I’d not played before on it and was what introduced me to many games I’d always meant to but hadn’t played at the time, games such as the original Metroid, Kid Icarus and Kirby’s Adventure. Kirby’s Adventure was probably the game I played most on there as it was fairly simple. The games were pretty compressed and crushed in order to fit on a GBA screen, so this was the game I figured I’d be able to beat most easily (which wasn’t really short like Donkey Kong or something). I played a fair way into it, but admittedly never finished this version. I think I got the official version on Virtual Console and played some of it, but my memory is somewhat hazy really and I believe it wasn’t till I got Nightmare in Dreamland cheap that I played through the whole game. Since then I played a lot of other Kirby games, all of the modern ones from Return to Dreamland onwards (well except spinoffs) and Super Star. Kirby Super Star is still probably the most definitive Kirby game I’d say, but I’d decided that game would be represented on my list by another character I’ll get to later better overall, so for Kirby, I decided to go with this game and finally beat it in its original form.

My Smash Playthrough.
Each world opens with a short scene of Kirby doing something in the location, similarly to Kirby’s Dreamland. I realise I’ve played this game often (at least the start of it) as the first scene of Kirby having a sword fight and losing his sword before inhaling his foe to gain their sword is somewhat burned into my memory at this point. Following this the game starts with a hub area where you gradually uncover more doors leading to each stage. The backstory of this game is that King Dedede invaded the Fountain of Dreams and took the Star Rod from it, breaking it into 7 pieces and giving 6 of them to his underlings, which in turn is causing bad dreams for all the residents of Dream Land, with Kirby setting out to take them back. The music in this game as with a lot of Kirby games is great with a lot of the songs that originated here showing up later in the series remixed. Kirby games are known for being easy which I don’t think is a criticism really as they’re still a lot of fun. Kirby can fly unlike a lot of characters from platforming games, which means you’re able really to go wherever you want in the stage, although you can still fall into pits if enemies knock you out of the sky, which throughout the game I’d say is more often what will get you rather than running out of health. Kirby’s powers are fairly simple in this game which is fair as it was the first introduction of the concept, still the majority of them are simply some sort of breath power (fire, ice), shooting something (laser, cutter) standing still and damaging anything that comes close (needle, sparky) or swiping with something (sword, beam, parasol). This isn’t to say that there aren’t a lot of unique powers still in the game, ones such as Hi-Jump which has Kirby take a high leap damaging anything he contacts whilst leaping or wheelie which has Kirby turn into a wheel and move quickly forwards crashing into enemies as he goes. It’s only in comparison to the rest of the series where a lot of these powers would get more specific additional abilities that the ones in this game can seem similar to each other to a certain degree, although the variety is still impressive compared to other NES games I’ve played. Kirby moves a lot more fluidly I’d say compared to characters in a lot of other NES games, although compared to the rest of the Kirby series his movements can be a bit stiff at times, still it’s not really a problem when playing the game, it just threw me off a little at first having played through Star Allies a lot recently.
When it comes to difficulty, I found I would die quite a few times in the final worlds and sometimes against the bosses, however it was never to the point where I got a game over nor were there any parts I remember finding particularly frustrating. Of the more difficult stages, the final world Rainbow Resort is probably my favourite, it’s backgrounds even on NES manage to look really nice with the starry skies and purple cosmic landscape. With this said, it really shines in the remake which has some really nice-looking backgrounds. The music in Rainbow Resort is some of my favourite in the Kirby series and really adds to the atmosphere. There’re some somewhat annoying stages here with easy to fall in gaps that lead to an instant death, but it never gets to the stage that made me start getting really frustrated. A lot of the stages in this world do a lot of interesting things with water which would show up later in the series, with waterfalls you can swim up and other physics defying sights. The final stage before the boss in Rainbow Resort is also a lot of fun, as it’s a condensed version of the whole of Kirby’s Dream Land even using the monochrome sprites for the enemies and in this version the HUD itself is also monochrome. I realise now I’ve spent a fair bit talking about this one world, but really it’s always been the highlight of the game for me when it comes to the stages, as a lot of the others aren’t that different to stages that appear in a lot of Kirby games, such as a grassland, islands, clouds, mountains and the ocean. Probably one of the most well-known worlds in this game, partially as it has a famous theme in the series named after it, is Butter Building which is a tower and features a lot of stages which are travelled vertically upwards. The other most notable world for me personally is Orange Ocean, which features a fair few water stages as well as some ice themed stages. The biggest factor however is it also features a key boss fight.
This game features quite a few notable bosses and introduces a very big character in the series overall. There are two bosses who return from Kirby’s Dreamland making this the first of their many recurring appearances in a boss role. The first of course is Whispy Woods who’s exactly the same as he was in Dream Land, dropping apples Kirby can inhale and spit back at him as well as blowing clouds of air. Secondly is Kracko the one-eyed cloud who fights similarly to Dream Land, but instead of Waddle Doos it summons Starmen which give Kirby the Hi-Jump ability, which can be effective on it due to its levitating position. However, I personally found it more effective to just spit stars at it. Kracko also starts off in its Kracko Jr form and chases Kirby who must escape before reaching the area where it transforms into its true form and the boss battle begins. Of the new bosses the first two I would say are more notable in the series than the other one. Paint Roller is a boss who goes from one canvas to another drawing something which will come to life and usually charge at Kirby. He’s fairly easy to beat and interestingly Adeleine later in the series would fight in a similar way, drawing things which somewhat come to life and attack. The next boss fight features a duo, Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright who are a Sun and Moon that take turns fighting you, with the other one supporting the one fighting you from the sky with various attacks. They also appear in a couple of other games in the series as bosses or cameos. Heavy Mole is probably the least famous of the new bosses, having only appeared in one other game. The battle against Heavy Mole can be beaten very quickly or turn dangerous very quickly somewhat based on luck. The missiles it fires as it digs can be eaten to give Kirby a variety of powers, but some of them can put him to sleep. Depending on if Kirby receives a powerful ability, he can beat Heavy Mole very quickly, but due to the autoscrolling nature of the stage as well as Heavy Mole being able to dig a pit depending on it’s direction, Kirby can be put to sleep and scrolled off the screen into a pit killing him instantly. Overall, Heavy Mole can either be a really frustrating boss or incredibly easy in my experience.
The other bosses in the game are notable as they are fairly big characters in the series, Meta Knight makes his first appearance in this game and despite having no dialogue still demonstrates his personality due to him only fighting Kirby when he picks up the sword power, as he refuses to fight him unarmed. The boss fight with him is one of the more challenging as he can only be attacked either when he drops his guard or from behind. King Dedede appears at the Fountain of Dreams and looks to be the final boss of the game. Even though he isn’t, unlike in Kirby’s Dreamland, the fight with him here is somewhat more difficult than that one. In this game Dedede shows he’s learnt to float like Kirby can for the first time, apparently having trained to do so following his previous defeat. This move can be slightly more dangerous than his others as he can be a bit difficult to avoid, although it’s nothing overly challenging. Following Dedede’s dedefeat it’s revealed he was actually trying to prevent the release of a great evil that’s appeared in the Fountain of Dreams and stole the Star Rod to prevent it from escaping. Kirby not listening to Dedede puts the Star Rod back into the Fountain of Dreams inadvertently releasing Nightmare. Dedede then inhales Kirby along with the Star Rod and spits them both out into space to chase down Nightmare.
The final battle with Nightmare is different from the rest of the game, starting off with Kirby chasing Nightmare who’s in a ball form. Kirby is wielding the Star Rod and able to fly freely with it whilst firing stars as a projectile, which makes this part of the fight play a bit like a space shooter. If Kirby doesn’t manage to do enough damage to the ball in time Nightmare will fly off and Kirby will crash into the moon, which happened to me a few times. Once Kirby lands he is back to his normal movement, but can only damage Nightmare by firing stars from the Star Rod at his tornado looking body. Overall, I find it a pretty fun fight, with its setting of a battle in space then on the moon being pretty climactic. Kirby ends up destroying Nightmare and flying back to Pop Star as text explains that Dedede was in fact trying to stop Nightmare, with Dedede flying alongside Kirby as he returns. Finally, Kirby returns the Star Rod to it’s resting place in the Fountain of Dreams, restoring it to its original state and ending the nightmares plaguing Dream Land.
Overall, I found the game an enjoyable experience. Having not grown up with it and playing later Kirby games first it was fairly simplistic, and due to it’s length unlike Kirby’s Dream Land it’s not a game I like to put on quickly to play through, however it’s still a fun game with some really nice moments and introduced a lot of concepts for the Kirby series that are still going strong today. It is also still a very impressive NES game in my opinion.
Specific aspects about the game relating to Kirby in Smash.
Now, this is somewhat where my decision to play this game over others runs into a little bit of an issue. Regarding Kirby in Smash specifically, a lot of the transformations here are a part of Kirby’s moveset in Smash. There’s the Cutter ability, Stone ability and Hammer Ability which are all part of Kirby’s moveset, as well as some of his moves which draw from abilities such as Fireball, Fighter and the Throw abilities. However, for the absolute closest version of Kirby in a game to his Smash Bros incarnation, the best games would be either Kirby and the Amazing Mirror or Kirby Planet Robobot due to a specific ability in those games, the Smash power (or later named Smash Bros). This ability surprisingly enough allows Kirby to use almost all his moves from Smash Bros which I guess makes it the closest you can ‘equip’ Kirby to how he is in Smash. Besides the copy powers, Kirby has his slide kick, inhale ability and his ability to float just as in Smash Bros in every game, including Kirby’s Adventure, as well as the warpstar which Kirby uses to enter in Smash Bros. Beyond that, the final note I guess I can make is this was the first game to specifically make Kirby pink, as the Gameboy couldn’t display colour when Kirby’s Dream Land was released.

‘game dedede’ is not a good person to ship escargoon with and here’s why
im glad my escargoon analysis resonated with lots of people. i saw some comments on it, which i feel the need to reply to because they’re on my post. a small few comments have been about the main focus of this whole multi paragraph crazed yammering; game dedede
(content warning: i talk about the horror comic killing stalking for four paragraphs. wow i bet this content warning doesn’t give mood whiplash at all)
now, game dedede isn’t much of anything. he’s a non-character, as he has no discernible personality in the games that isn’t really much of anything more than a catalyst for people to project a personality onto. as are all the game characters, because kirby isn’t focused so much on plot and indepth character development as it is about the gameplay. nintendo’s always been good at gameplay,  so they have basically stuck to what they’ve known and sprinkled small plot bits around places and entirely discarded anything other than hints personalities so that way they have an excuse for pure gameplay and fun to occur. it’s the same way with mario, and zelda, and usually basically all of their properties. yes, even pokemon, though usually when pokemon gets too plot heavy we get games like sun and moon, which are basically just cutscenes upon cutsc-
what was i talking about? oh, right, game dedede.
game dedede is usually seen by the fandom as a variety of things, but the main one is nice. and by nice i mean he is usually portrayed as someone who is typically valorous and is doing the right thing, not someone who is necessarily pleasant, though some like to make him pleasant or jolly. if you know me or have even been on my blog even once on pc you’ll notice the cool deviantart stamp i got from one of my friends. i fully agree with the things it entails; dedede not being your typical uwu ‘do nothing wrong’ monarch that he’s often now plastered as because he did the whole ‘i help this cat’ in rtdl or because he wanted to keep nightmare from coming out of the fountain in nightmare in dreamland and.. whatever the name was of the game that it was a remake of.
people usually want to be able to root for the protagonist, and since dedede was a protagonist and / or in the right in a few occasions, we want to see him as a good guy doing good guy things. and there’s plenty of different ways to take that, as there’s both evidence for and against him being a morally light character. but that’s not really the point of what i’m talking about here. regardless of your own personal opinion on how ‘game dedede’ morally is, he is not a good person for escargoon to be with. there’s a reason why i said someone should be shipping him with an oc rather than game dedede, and it’s precisely because ‘game dedede’, even if he somehow zapped into the anime verse, would not be good to ship with him.
and it’s not based on chemistry or because game dedede is secretly or openly evil or something like that. it’s purely because escargoon is still a victim of abuse. and if you’re someone with a few braincells you want him to get out of that abuse and go find a new husband who’ll love and care for him. for escargoon to get game dedede seems to make sense at first because escargoon is so devoted to the anime one, but when you look at it, it’s not healthy at all.
this is essentially taking escargoon’s old abuser, wiping away all the ‘sins’ of his character just to make it so escargoon can date him. just so he can date an idealized version of his abuser. this person is quite literally just his abuser but with a mental coat of paint.
allow me to draw comparison.
i’m going to go off here about a comic that i warned about at the top of the post. i’m not going to go too indepth about it due to the sheer nausea i might cause people if i do. it is a rather extreme example sheerly due to the content of said comic, but i can’t think of another better one off the top of my head. there’s a comic named killing stalking which was a big note for socio-political talk i think a few years back. it was a horror comic about a killer and a stalker wherein the murderer takes the stalker in, breaks his legs, and keeps in his house. the stalker, who already had sexual interest in his kidnapper, is abused due to various here and there reasons, and then after a while the comic begins the two’s sexual-romantic yet still abusive relationship. here’s the thing. the two of the characters are both men, so the relationship is gay.
many took to tumblr and various other medias smacking the comic for the display that it created (the comic chock is full of fairly nauseating things that are worth calling disgusting, but are expected of a shock horror comic) and the association it made between gay men and murderers, as well as making gay men look predatory and dangerous. normally said comic wouldn’t have been much of a problem or very noteworthy if it were about a straight pair, but it was about this Evil Gay Murderer Pair, so it was a source of controversy like shit is an attractor of flies.
despite the controversy that the comic had gotten, and the treatment in-canon it had of its characters being very clearly evil and in the wrong and clear deservance of being detracted, something strange happened. not in the comic, but in the people who decided to support said comic. people decided to support it for a number of reasons, one being that ‘oh it’s a horror comic i like horror despite what controversy or effects it may have on people’. i remember seeing it once, on my dashboard, i think. or back in the day when i was trying to figure out what the fuck was going on with this comic that everyone on my dash was just going to town on. people were shipping the two main, gay characters with eachother. and they weren’t doing it in a way that was ‘oh the murderer is so hot look at him in all this blood’ sort of way. it was in a much more.. ‘cozy’ position. it was fluffy. it was shown as cute. at first i thought it was because people were fucking weirdos, but i remember this one caption that has been recalled in perfect paraphrased clarity to me.
‘some people make aus to make their ships more angsty, but i’m out here making mine healthy lol’
people were taking the murderer, the main person who was causing the problems in the comic, and turning him into a loving husband for the stalker (who was shown as very mentally ill and in desperate need of love and attention). people were making the pairing that the comic itself showed as horrifying and awful to be fluffy and cute and devoid of any problems. so that way the victim was no longer hurt. it was an au. the murderer had a new personality, he was a changed man who never hurt anyone, so he was perfect for the stalker. that way, the ship could be had but there would be no issue whatsoever.
and to be quite honest, that’s what we have here. we have an offshoot of that. though obviously the source material is much less dangerous in our case, we still have a victim in desperate need of love in an abusive relationship with someone who hurts them. then, we have people shipping said victim with a new version of that abuser just to wipe the slate clean. just to keep the ship going without anyone objecting to it, because it can all be explained away as an au or what have you. though, i’m sure the ship in killing stalking was very much bashed by people (at least, i hope it was), while this one isn’t.
i can hear my strawman in the replies already going ‘well thanks for the tangent. but ching, game dedede’s a different person. he is legitimately a different canon than anime dedede, meanwhile this is people making things up that the canon doesn’t support. if you dated a twin you won’t apply the sins of the twin on the other one, would you?’ and if this were a real life situation, you’d be correct.
it’d be wrong to place the sins of one twin onto another sheerly because one was an abusive asshole. but since is a real life scenario, putting a victim of abuse back with someone who looks exactly like their abuser would most certainly create extreme fear and panic in that victim. it wouldn’t matter if one of the twins hasn’t done anything, the potential relationship would forever be ruined and it’d be out of their control. and no one, no self respecting person, should ever have a victim date them if they look exactly like said victim’s old abuser. that’s just asking for mental troubles and constant panic attacks.
but that’s if this were real. it’s not real. this is video games and cartoons. it doesn’t come down to that, it comes down to us and what we decide to do, and what we decide to ship. these are not real people. we are putting them together for our own amusement because you’d think they’d get along. and doing this with a ship like this with game dedede says, to me, "I do not care if it is abusive in canon, I want to ship it anyways without any problems or people calling me out, so I’ll make it so people can’t do that by stripping the abuser of their abusive characteristics and make it so this abusive ship is all sunshine and rainbows". this is especially poignant if escargoon is stripped of all his abuse as well, allowing for him to be shipped more easily. it is quite literally going ‘nope’ when one is confronted with the very real trauma of a character and discarding it. don’t get me wrong, some things in canon should be discarded in some sources of entertainment, but a character’s abuse being discarded entirely for the sake of shipping just does not sit well with me.
of course, people who ship it are absolutely not thinking this maliciously when they ship discountdesuka, but that’s what it is irregardless of what they are thinking.
‘game’ dedede / escargoon is a ‘what could’ve been’ situation.
it is an idealized version of dedesuka, one which throws a key aspect of escargoon’s out the door purely for the fluff and the cute gay moments that could’ve been. and sadly enough, it’s probably what escargoon dreams and hopes could happen (which is arguable because escargoon gets suspicious whenever dedede is nice to him), but it never does.
i understand why people do it. i know they don’t have some secret plan to be evil by creating secret abusive content that has hidden messages in it so everyone will ship abusive ships or something ridiculous like that, and if you thought that i thought that you’re very wrong.
in some’s cases (as shown by the tags on my escargoon post), they want to reclaim a relationship which was blatantly homophobic in execution and turn it into something better. others just want a cute ship because their version of ‘game’ dedede is morally better than his anime counterpart, and wouldn’t hurt escargoon. they want to make wholesome content to drown out canon’s shows of abuse and negativity. which is understandable to want, but to show respect to the concepts the show puts out, isn’t something that should be embraced with ‘game’ dedede/escargoon.
but there is no undoing what anime dedede/escargoon is in the show, and what it means to give escargoon over to ‘game’ dedede instead. ‘game’ dedede / escargoon is not abusive by any initial means, but it is still something that should not be shipped regardless.
it is disrespect to escargoon’s status as an abuse victim to  ship him with the same exact person who abused him and say it’s okay because ‘he has a different personality’.
i am begging you. please ship escargoon with your oc or some other game character.

kirburbia ch. 17 - like moths to a flame
everything’s okay when you know that someone loves you.
full text on ao3 here, or full text under the cut!
the coast is clear now. we’re on the highway where the light is orange and warm like a fire before the night.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ride home from the gas station feels like a dream for Meta Knight. He’s still hazy internally, all of his energy on focusing on the road and trying to block out anything else. Repeating over and over again in his mind-
If I can get home to Dedede and Kirby, we’re fine. Everything else can be worked out later.
After a while, the house comes into view. Some dusty roads take him to where Dedede’s garage is, the path becoming clearer as he approaches, and Meta Knight sighs in relief when the car slots neatly inside the garage. Tentatively he opens the car door and steps outside, bringing the keys with him and preparing to knock on Dedede’s door. Feeling the keys in his hand, he knows there’s a door key he can use attached, but for some reason it doesn’t feel right.
I must have made Dedede very worried. I can’t barge into his house like this. I have to wait, and then I have to apologize, as a knight would do.
He taps the door twice, trying to cause minimal disturbance, and almost immediately he can hear Dedede moving around the place, nearly knocking into the various items of furniture around the house, as he often does. Avoiding Dedede’s eventual gaze on instinct, Meta Knight looks up to where a light hangs at the doorway, now surrounded by a haze of summer night insects. The more he looks, the more he can hear the buzzing. The less he can hear the clattering inside as Dedede issues muffled curses about his frustration in his inability to find the key. The less he thinks to himself-
It’s my fault Dedede is upset. I made a horrible mistake, and now he’ll never forgive me.
While Meta Knight stands transfixed, the door to Dedede’s house opens with a smooth click. The door swings to the side as Dedede exits energetically, turning to see Meta Knight looking at the light and not the door. Meta Knight twitches when he hears it, broken out of his trance, and his shoulders clench as he tries to work up the courage to face Dedede. He knows it’s him and not Kirby- his footsteps are familiar now, as is his scent (seawater, even as far removed from the ocean as possible). Hell, he can almost feel Dedede near him. But at the moment, there’s not enough willpower in the world for Meta Knight to look over.
“Hey. Meta.” There, again, is the pregnant pause that’s hung over them so many times in the past. “Did I not open the door loud enough or somethin’?” Meta Knight doesn’t turn his head, but he brings his palm to his lower arm and starts rubbing it in a comforting fashion. He takes a few deep breaths and tries to wrench his gaze away from the light.
“Sorry, I was distracted.” he says, finally able to look Dedede in the eyes.
“By what? That light?”
“…Yes.”
“What are you, a bug?” Dedede jokes. Meta Knight’s shoulders clench further in expectation for some further insults, of course based around the idea of him in fact being a bug, but they unclench in a way that sends a shock down Meta’s spine when Dedede draws him into a big bear hug. The air in his lungs squeezed out almost immediately, Meta gasps and looks up at Dedede’s face, only to find it full of warmth and laughter at his.
“Umph! Dedede-“
“You had me worried there! If you were that tired, you should have just told me, and I would have gone. It’s no problem, you know!”
“…I don’t know why I fell asleep, honestly. Maybe I just needed some quiet.” Meta Knight says. Then he can feel Dedede’s arms getting looser around him, eventually releasing him from their grip.
“Aw, you sure buddy? You need quiet, I can give you quiet. Quiet as a mouse, that’s me, Dedede.” Meta Knight shakes his head.
“Not that kind of quiet. I had the radio on still when I was in there. More like… mental quiet. Again, I had some stuff on my mind while I was driving. I pulled over to think it through.” Dedede smiles sympathetically.
“I getcha. You need to talk about it with your pal Dedede? I can give you more hugs, free of charge. Or burgers.” At this, Meta Knight feels the heat rush to his cheeks.
“This is something I’d prefer to deal with alone, but thank you for your offer.”
“You having trouble with a girl? Trust me, we won’t be rivals for love or anything, I have no interests at the moment.” Well, I’m having relationship trouble, but… Meta Knight thinks. He shakes his head in rebuttal.
“Right, right. Are you worried about Kirby or anything like that?” He shakes his head again. Truth be told, he’s always a little worried about Kirby, but that’s background noise by now. Not relevant to Dedede.
“Well, I guess it’s none of my business then.” Dedede replies. Meta Knight can’t help noticing that his voice sounds dejected, fragile at the rejection of his assistance. Does he really care this much?
“It’s only a minor thing.” Meta Knight tries to reassure Dedede. “It’ll fix itself in a while. Just wondering about the future, I suppose.” The sympathetic smile returns to Dedede’s face.
“Aw, who even knows about the future.” His hand is now on Meta Knight’s back, making him flush further. “I ain’t no fortune teller, but I think that if we stick together we’ll end up doing just fine for ourselves.” Unable to think of anything good to respond with, Meta Knight nods, and Dedede’s smile widens. “C’mon, you want dinner? I was thinking of doing steak and garlic potatoes, but if you’re shaken up we can just order Chinese food and watch some of that new talent show on the TV.”
Unsure of how much being around Dedede helps his problem, but warm and comfortable in his embrace and in his home, Meta Knight nods at nothing, eyes now fixed on Dedede’s face.

kirburbia ch. 22 - sweet tea
it’s a warm summer’s day.
read below or find on ao3 here!
There’s not much opportunity for Meta Knight and Dedede to hang around at the house where they bring the cat. Knocking on the door, it doesn’t take long for the owner of the house- and the, following logically, owner of the cat- to appear at the doorstep where Meta Knight lifts the animal crate for her to see inside. Her eyes light up with a grateful happiness as she hears the familiar meow, receiving the crate itself with equal appreciation and joy, exciting Meta and Dedede into a smile. Not waiting long to get the feline back into her house, she puts the crate down almost immediately after she’s given it, the door of it still locked.
“Thank you sirs, for bringing my Cheesecake back. He’s never gotten lost like this before, he’s a good boy.” Her accent is charming and strong, her home comfortable and wood-accented. “I don’t suppose you two would like to come in for a drink?” she asks. Meta Knight thinks- it’s a tempting proposal, even if it’s just to look polite for someone in the neighbourhood. And Dedede can never resist being offered some kind of food or drink. Then Dedede nods, and Meta Knight gets the feeling that he probably doesn’t have a great amount of choice in this. Moving graciously to allow the two men into her house, Meta Knight follows slightly less enthusiastically behind Dedede as he brushes past the beaded curtains and well-travelled trinkets and onto a dark oak table. Turning back to the lady, embarrassed about Dedede’s behaviour without even knowing the name of his host, Meta Knight sighs.
“He can be very impulsive. And we have something else coming up, so he wants to make the most of anything else he’s doing.” To Meta Knight’s relief, instead of criticizing him, she just smiles.
“I understand. I don’t see him often around here, so he must be a busy man.” Well, she’s not wrong, Meta Knight thinks to himself. Walking forward into the home in the way Dedede did, Meta Knight is able to absorb the atmosphere of the home, much shadier than the world outside. It’s much more lived in than Dedede’s home- that he knows for sure- and it’s busier, aesthetically. And though Meta Knight knows that preferring simplicity and peace is just part of his personality, in his heart of hearts he can’t help wondering-
what if I could live somewhere like this? Somewhere that was less of a house and more of a home.
In the living room, connected openly to the kitchen, Meta Knight can see Dedede sitting down on one of the small chairs with woven and brass accents. He smiles when he can hear Meta Knight entering, even though he’s not turned in his direction. There’s a moment when he’s paused, but he takes in a breath that makes Meta Knight anticipate something.
“Glad you’re here, buddy. Once we got Kirby, wanna go out and visit that café I was talking about? One in the park, ya know.” Now he’s facing Meta Knight, who nods and smiles in return.
“That sounds nice. When is it open til?”
“Uh, in the Summer…6pm. The big six o’clock.” Third to enter the room is the lady of the house, carting with her Cheesecake’s temporary pen. Meta Knight waves on instinct.
“Alright, do you just want some water? Otherwise I’ve got some Coke, some lemonade, a little sweet tea-“ Dedede cuts her off and Meta Knight groans.
“Sweet tea, please and thank you.” She looks over at Meta Knight now.
“…Uh…” Meta Knight murmurs, unsure of how to respond. “…Just water, please?”
“No problem.” The sound of liquid pouring into the glass reminds Meta Knight of how thirsty the afternoon had made him, and for the first time in a while he feels excited about the potential of drinking regular water. Dedede is watching with a similar interest.
“Are you a fan of sweet tea?” Meta Knight asks. Dedede giggles.
“More than I am of water.”
“I don’t intend to be a nuisance to our host by asking for more, even if it’s just a few minutes.”
“You can call me Lauren!” they hear from the kitchen.
“Well, I guess there’s always the café later.” Internally, Meta Knight wonders why Dedede likes that café so much. He also finds himself tapping his feet against the wooden floor and watching a fly buzz around the lamp affixed to a large tank that Meta assumes houses some kind of animal.
All of the weird stuff I feel makes talking to Dedede hard.
The drinks come in and they’re laid on the table. Meta Knight has to resist taking a huge unsightly gulp from his glass, especially when he sees Dedede taking a polite sip and readying a compliment for the host.
“Now this- this is some wonderful sweet tea.”
“I owe you for finding Cheesecake. I work at home, so I’ve missed him dearly over the past few weeks… Really broke my heart. So.. you have all my thanks.”
Meta Knight smiles. “It’s no problem, honestly. We had an interesting time capturing him. Didn’t take it too well, really, but he’s fine.”
“That’s all that matters, isn’t it? You can get hurt and things can change so often, but in the end as long as you have ground to stand on it’ll be okay one day. You just hang in there, and you do what you have to do.”
----------------------------------------------------------------
When they’ve finished their drinks- Meta Knight remaining insistent on minding the time- Dedede waves goodbye to Lauren with enthusiasm. Relieved to be free of the cat, as cute as he was, Meta Knight takes a minute to feel the wind and sun on his skin as Dedede loads himself into the car.
“Get in, ya freakin’ hippy.” Without any good recourse, Meta Knight takes the front passenger seat like usual. Trying to break the silence, Meta Knight says something he hopes internally he won’t regret later on. With a smile, not knowing whether he’s trying to throw Dedede off his trail or onto a different one, he nudges Dedede.
“She was cute, huh?”
“Eh.” Meta Knight’s heart sinks as he hears it. If I’m going to feel like this, he thinks, I’d like a definite point of hopelessness. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, anybody would be lucky to have her. But I don’t get mixed up with human dames. Women are tricky already.” Even though he has no possible experience to corroborate this with, Meta Knight nods.
“I tried, Dedede. I tried.”
The car’s engine kicks into gear, and before Meta can utter another word, the noise of it coming to life drowns out anything else.
